[SPEAKER_01]: I bond Joe back at mini camp Joe second day of mini camp and have an opportunity to watch the first day and you know there's a lot of things I like a lot of things I like I like the energy of this team I think the coaching staff is kind of you know got them excited about it and moving along well the team knows what to expect players know what to expect from this coaching staff now and boy I had this they look so much better in the first two days of this mini camp than we saw.
• 0:38
[SPEAKER_00]: a week ago at OTAs just looks like a different group uh they get it they get what co-taff wants and uh and they're feeding off it right now.
• 0:49
[SPEAKER_00]: He's running the same stuff, he wants smart guys, assignments, take care of the ball, all the fundamental things is what he's been talking about.
• 0:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about this training care, this mini camp.
• 0:58
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they put in they they they installed all their all their Mot, you know, there's much offences.
• 1:04
[SPEAKER_01]: They want to there's much defenses.
• 1:06
[SPEAKER_01]: They want to so this one They're circling around and going back to start again to see guys.
• 1:10
[SPEAKER_01]: Can they retain what they learn important?
• 1:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Do they know what they do and the thing like I mean, you know, from the day from day one when I first came out For one of the O. T's the fact that there's no but there's no wasted time Everybody's doing something well.
• 1:25
[SPEAKER_01]: You got special teams over there
• 1:27
[SPEAKER_01]: offence of lines working on stuff the defensive lines working on stuff no one's just hanging around lollygagging on the side of the side lines and i'm using the word lollygagging a lot these days i don't know why but this become part of my lexicon so it's probably gonna stay there for a while
• 1:42
[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't get a last year until something gets something gets up there.
• 1:45
  [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm pleased when I see.
• 1:48
[SPEAKER_01]: So one of the things I gleamed out of half in this, I think was yesterday's press conference prior to the practice was he brought up Chop Robinson.
• 1:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Someone asked him, hey, they talked about Chop.
• 1:59
[SPEAKER_01]: So one of the asked him out Chop and he said, well, you know, Chop's doing well.
• 2:04
[SPEAKER_01]: He's working hard, but he's got to be a complete player.
• 2:09
[SPEAKER_01]: And, to me, the way I read it was healin' behind the gun, if I feel it right, it's like, hey, you need to get up to speed, you need to be able to be a complete guy, because if not, it's gonna be a little trouble, there's gonna be a little risky now, I think you see it a different way.
• 2:27
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I did, it's funny you said that kid.
• 2:30
[SPEAKER_00]: We're talking about an even on a radio the last few days and I took it as like look at we need this guy He needs to be our number Out And we need him to place you said for a second and third down and And once he we think there's a lot more to get out of him.
• 2:45
[SPEAKER_00]: We got a coach him up time about playing him from the nine out Why playing him inside the five in the six spots
• 2:51
[SPEAKER_00]: and uh... and using them to get matches and i think boy i'll tell you what to me uh... i i think right now he's looking at malik willless and chop robinson is it top two guys like guys man you guys need to make an impact one on offence is a quarterback another one is a pass rusher we're gonna use a lot of different ways he's at two sixty to two sixty five right now and it's year three man he's played a lot of football and it's time he's he's got to be able to do it all
• 3:17
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they don't want him to just be a pass rush or whatever there it is.
• 3:21
[SPEAKER_01]: And so so what they're looking for is a versatile guy that can put the put the put it put a defense in Let's say you put you're running the fourth three you got a nose tackle you got two ends and you got chop standing up on two outside guys standing up They want to be able to make a move where you can slide them down put chop down over a tackle and have him be able to work with that block
• 3:42
[SPEAKER_01]: Being a double team cut off the guy from the back side do all the things that you need to do and still give you some Pass rush from a three point stance.
• 3:50
[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what they want him to do and I've been watching him in some of the drills and I think he struggles at times I think he's kind of a a bc guy a bc You know, and you can't be an a bc guy.
• 4:03
[SPEAKER_01]: You got to be an instant guy.
• 4:05
[SPEAKER_01]: You got you can't get
• 4:07
[SPEAKER_01]: Block, you can't have a guy post you up a guy come right in your chest and post you up and not feel a tight-end coming down To double team you you got it you got it see that feel it you can't okay now I got this guy boom now you look in the guys already guys already got you halfway down on the screen
• 4:25
[SPEAKER_00]: No, listen, a lot of guys, you know, don't a lot of media people think it's not going to work out.
• 4:30
[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to stick with it.
• 4:31
[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to get more comfortable.
• 4:32
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
• 4:33
[SPEAKER_00]: We're he can natural instinct to go or not think about.
• 4:37
[SPEAKER_00]: One step and then go inside like a robot.
• 4:40
[SPEAKER_00]: It's got to be going.
• 4:42
  [SPEAKER_00]: He's got great speed.
• 4:43
[SPEAKER_00]: You just got to put it all together, but listen, man, he can be under a microscope, like, and look, he's in his third year.
• 4:50
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, a first round draft choice, and yeah, and you had that, yeah, that one great half of the season, and his first year, and last year was a disappointment.
• 4:59
  [SPEAKER_01]: So now this is, it's, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's,
• 5:02
[SPEAKER_01]: fisher cut bait, you know, this your form.
• 5:04
[SPEAKER_01]: But they need a little pressure on him.
• 5:06
[SPEAKER_01]: But and he does, he needs to get more relaxed.
• 5:08
[SPEAKER_00]: And he needs to get more, just a little smoother with not thinking just reacting and where everything they're asking you to do, he started outside, come back inside and just being comfortable.
• 5:19
[SPEAKER_00]: But it's a fresh start for him and everybody else on this team with a new coaching staff and your head coaches
• 5:26
[SPEAKER_00]: is going to be calling the plays as a defensive coordinator on game day.
• 5:29
[SPEAKER_00]: So, these are really important things, but yeah, chop is one guy's here, but he's watching because, and if you don't have a past Rush Bowl, they're already, I've been in a blitz a lot in this league, but you can't allow these guys.
• 5:42
[SPEAKER_00]: You look at the quarterbacks of Miami Dolphins have on the schedule.
• 5:45
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the best of, and if you give a time bow, they're going to chew you up.
• 5:49
[SPEAKER_01]: So all you need to do is
• 5:56
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's they're not outside linebackers.
• 5:58
[SPEAKER_01]: They're not there's their edge edge edge edge because with the defense is unable to route reroute people unable to like, you know, kind of, you know, the physicality that you used to have, you got to get that past rush and you got to get in their fast.
• 6:12
[SPEAKER_01]: you know it's got to be big big band you can't write you know guys guys stops you for a step and you're done so and they need that and so it's going to be a big big that's going to be a big portion of this defense the success or failure on both sides on both sides of that.
• 6:30
[SPEAKER_01]: of that the line of scrimmage defensively.
• 6:34
[SPEAKER_01]: So a funny thing that Dave Wantsdale yesterday, Dave Wantsdale was out, Zach Thomas was out here.
• 6:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Louis Oliver was out here, Trace Armstrong was out here for practice and Wantsdale and Dave come back and came back today and it's funny, we were talking to a little bit and you told the story about
• 6:51
[SPEAKER_01]: when he was a pit Jeff Hathley was hanging around.
• 6:54
[SPEAKER_01]: Jeff, he's, he was just hanging around.
• 6:56
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, one of those guys that, if on practice, he's out there, you know what, if they're working the gym, he's there.
• 7:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And so, so, it, at one point, Dave says, hey, you know what, you're coming here a lot, he goes, yeah, well, why don't you come on in, come on in and, so they can let him come in and do a little bit more and, you know,
• 7:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Stay around a little bit.
• 7:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so he said so he said you know, he met for a couple days So then half there in the next day and the next day and the next day and he said, bro You know you got nothing else to do there's no coach.
• 7:24
[SPEAKER_01]: This is where I want to be so one of the one of the One of the Granites that's leaves and he yeah, you go say, you know, just half the job and from then on Wow, they've been tight
• 7:35
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and and have talked about some picked up someone asked them in the press conference and he said man He said yeah, he says this guy's been my guy the whole time about that.
• 7:44
[SPEAKER_01]: He's been a mentor from me since I just said the first time I walked in to a team situation I'd do whatever and he said I call him sometimes sometimes sometimes before the games on sundown on Saturday night Wow and sometimes sometimes in the locker room on Sundays before the games Because he's that much of a mentor form
• 8:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And really, you know what it means.
• 8:03
[SPEAKER_01]: You and I know Dave pretty well, no better guy, right?
• 8:06
[SPEAKER_01]: Dave, no better guy than we did.
• 8:08
[SPEAKER_01]: To be a guy like that for a guy like Jeff Halfley.
• 8:11
[SPEAKER_01]: And both of those, both of those guys spoke about each other and such glowing terms that you know the relationship they have is just, yes, it's, it's, it's, man, what is going to be there?
• 8:23
  [SPEAKER_00]: What a great story.
• 8:24
[SPEAKER_00]: And Dave wants, of course, one of the last playoff games has a coach of the Miami Dolphins.
• 8:31
[SPEAKER_00]: Coach Offley is going to be able to get that first win in 20 something years since we've had our last playoff.
• 8:37
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a couple other things let's you know what it's it's I look at guys and Jordan Brooks what you know great great great year last year
• 8:49
[SPEAKER_01]: You know all pro what you know just just and just a player's player yeah, and Great leader and you want you greatly and so so you know there it's they got they're doing drills all over and Some of the linebackers are doing this on special teeth and I'm saying he's on the side just with it taking a coach over there
• 9:08
[SPEAKER_01]: pounding on the dummies, getting on the block of stuff, working, working, working technique, doing everything, and you don't think those young guys sitting over there looking over there, I remember when I first came into the, we had a guy named Michael in Captain Crush.
• 9:27
[SPEAKER_01]: So we, we, we would, you know, we'd do our calisthenics and we'd go to a drill, then you'd go to another drill and you know, and I, and I, and I'd see this guy
• 9:36
[SPEAKER_01]: from one drill to the next.
• 9:38
  [SPEAKER_01]: Right?
• 9:39
[SPEAKER_01]: And one time I said, Mike, why are you sprinting?
• 9:41
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, first of all, I want to be the first one in the light.
• 9:44
[SPEAKER_01]: Second of all, if I were sprinting get there, I could rest while the other guys are kind of, you know, jogging on over there.
• 9:51
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 9:51
  [SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?
• 9:52
[SPEAKER_01]: He told me that that's I did that the same the rest of my career.
• 9:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I did the same exact thing That's all those little things.
• 9:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so those little things like we're a rookie Seeing a guy like Jordan Brooks over here is gonna be their main middle line backer gonna be one of the probably the best player on defense is working out on tech meat and little things that make you better It's just it's just such a
• 10:15
[SPEAKER_01]: It's such a nice thing for me to see the town because you know what's gonna happen at some point Those guys they're gonna come over and they're gonna come with him and then and he'll be the ringleader and and it'll be so it'll be a game So a nice thing about this team right now is they remember
• 10:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and and you look at Brooks during Brooks wants to they want new contracts in the fact that they're still out here So there's no drama.
• 10:40
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no talk about the holdouts and what might happen with contracts?
• 10:44
[SPEAKER_00]: They're still acting like leaders.
• 10:46
  [SPEAKER_00]: I got great respect.
• 10:47
[SPEAKER_00]: It's acting and X axis or another guy
• 10:50
[SPEAKER_00]: They've got a contract obviously, but those guys have just been so good with the young guys and they're the best players a year ago and they're your best leaders a year ago and have those guys back I think it's just so so important and you saw you gave a great example of it today and on what we see out here But it's been all business man.
• 11:10
  [SPEAKER_00]: It's been great.
• 11:11
[SPEAKER_00]: I got to say this quarterbacks if you don't mind me flipping it on you.
• 11:14
  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, go.
• 11:14
  [SPEAKER_00]: Malik Willis
• 11:15
[SPEAKER_00]: and quince yours both on the ball really well quince yours has really had you since this thing started it's been really really good and m-moleak willus with it with the big arm and the athletic ability just looking more and more comfortable it just looks so much better
• 11:32
[SPEAKER_00]: Then it did a week ago, and it's only gonna get by tellerbait be patient.
• 11:36
[SPEAKER_00]: I know everybody's got to talk about what they see that day But you could see it getting better and better.
• 11:42
[SPEAKER_00]: It's got a long way to go, but I'm also starting to get a feel at Certain positions.
• 11:47
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, who's gonna be playing a lot of football on September?
• 11:49
  [SPEAKER_00]: I said bull.
• 11:50
  [SPEAKER_00]: Is it just me?
• 11:51
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm already kind of looking.
• 11:53
[SPEAKER_00]: I got a pretty good feel of positions.
• 11:55
  [SPEAKER_00]: Who's gonna be playing?
• 11:56
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah
• 11:57
[SPEAKER_00]: We're just trying to don't just shit if you want to you want to go on the over under catches for adult just you might as well go over right now I care what the number is Yeah, I think outside of a channel who led the team on receptions again year ago I think Ghosts it's gonna lead the team in and reception and by the way you go by whom a leak Stolen to quit yours or to one two
• 12:18
[SPEAKER_00]: and when they need them when they need them out here you could tell they've been throwing all off season since you know Malik Willis got here and I got a pretty good idea to do such is gonna be one of his main guys he's also picked it up with some of the other guys I think Malik Washington's gonna play a lot of football and be a big part of it is
• 12:36
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, look at that tight imposition.
• 12:38
[SPEAKER_01]: You've got dulcids, you've got fence Sims that they've been really good, and you've got cack merit, they're kind of a Ohio state that they're about paying.
• 12:47
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, I mean, it's going to be a nice, and a young group in there, you know, that they can grow a little bit out of you.
• 12:53
[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing Joe was nice to see, Austin Jackson, Austin Jackson, I work for Lord.
• 12:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Not doing, you know, not doing the team drills, but with the trainer going out and working, getting some drops, getting some past sets,
• 13:06
[SPEAKER_01]: It looks a little thick to me, but look, I don't care, I don't care that's what I want about here at any time.
• 13:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Got plenty of time to be healthy and get up there and get your weight where you want it.
• 13:15
[SPEAKER_01]: But, well, I'm telling you, and we're just talking about what you saw me go, man, if he's ready to play.
• 13:21
[SPEAKER_01]: And if he plays the way we know, he can play that offensive line from left to right is going to be a bear for defensive defensive.
• 13:30
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I am glad you said that because I think I came proctor, I ended up a left card and not have to wear a plan between.
• 13:39
[SPEAKER_00]: I said that it had been saying this.
• 13:40
[SPEAKER_00]: You got brewer and center and Patrick Paul left tackle.
• 13:44
[SPEAKER_00]: I just think some make his job.
• 13:47
[SPEAKER_00]: That left guard position so much ease of first pick of the Miami Dolphins, that left sight of the thing.
• 13:53
[SPEAKER_00]: And now I haven't Austin Jackson on the other side.
• 13:56
  [SPEAKER_00]: Mostly survived nine.
• 13:57
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll find out when we put the pads and they get going hard against each other and the practice is coming up in July and August.
• 14:04
[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, man, I think there's a lot of positive things going on.
• 14:08
  [SPEAKER_00]: You need depth, right?
• 14:09
[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to find the back cap of the 53-man roster, but
• 14:13
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think we feel like that.
• 14:15
[SPEAKER_01]: I keep going back to Patrick Paul after the first OTA.
• 14:20
[SPEAKER_01]: someone asked him about kale and proctor and and you know how big Patrick is.
• 14:24
[SPEAKER_00]: He says, yeah, he's a big dude, man.
• 14:27
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's where to hear him say that, right?
• 14:29
[SPEAKER_01]: The Patrick's saying that you know he's a big dude, takes a big lot of space and look, he's athletic.
• 14:34
[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen that on some of his, some of his stuff from Alabama.
• 14:38
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's so, so it's good.
• 14:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, the other thing, Joe, and this is a, no, probably some people are probably going out.
• 14:43
[SPEAKER_01]: What's a big deal, started raining here a little bit today.
• 14:46
[SPEAKER_01]: start to rain here a little bit what happened they stayed out in the field and they practiced practice in the rain because you're going to play in the rain we haven't seen that in years and years years we want to drop falls let's get back inside but this team these guys look there was no unfortunately there was no lightning so they just stayed out of the lightning well here I asked for the band gone yeah because our ask for the band gone but
• 15:08
[SPEAKER_01]: it rain and they stayed out there and they went through the practice and it's like a small thing but to me you know especially when you're in a plane I mean it's going to rain on Sunday one of the one with this team yeah small things like that matter yeah I agree no no I was happy you're going old school I do you get old school in there today well it's like
• 15:28
  [SPEAKER_01]: They're old school school.
• 15:29
[SPEAKER_01]: I went with I knew the dead the granddad.
• 15:31
  [SPEAKER_01]: I knew I knew daddy.
• 15:33
[SPEAKER_01]: I knew I knew that the dad And I bought cars from from all of them.
• 15:37
