  Can't wait for this one, Eugene. I mean, let's go back to the

  Utah game. I don't know if it was the FS1

  production, the fact it was the building wasn't even half full.

  There was just something missing about that game, Kind of a

  sleepy atmosphere. Yet Iowa State wins by 16, wins
• 1:09
  comfortably, a game that was really never closed.

  What was your take away from that Utah game, Eugene?

  It was definitely a sleepy one. The one that stood away, the one
• 1:18
  that stood out to me was just that 9 minute stretch there in
• 1:20
  the second-half where they held Utah without a single made shot
• 1:23
  and that allowed Iowa State to really pull away and put the
• 1:26
  game out of reach. Once they push their lead into
• 1:28
  double digits there, Utah was never really able to respond and
• 1:32
  Iowa State, just kind of like a Bo constrictor, just had their
• 1:35
  opponent under the wraps through all throughout.
• 1:38
  And then once the final buzzer sounded, it was just kind of
• 1:41
  business as usual. Definitely was a Workman like
• 1:44
  victory, but there's still what happened on Saturday night
• 1:46
  against BYU and I I think maybe in a way what happened to them
• 1:50
  against UCF, maybe even a little bit more salt in the wounds.

  All right, You walked into a tough environment.

  Debonstow was outstanding. But then you see the follow up

  there for BYU and it leaves you scratching your head.

  It's back to all right. You beat Utah on the road, but

  those Rd. woes, is it still a lingering doubt with you?

  The struggles that we've seen from this Iowa State team on the

  road? It's starting to become a little
• 2:10
  bit concerning. I think that they have one last
• 2:12
  chance to really shape that narrative or change that

  narrative or change that perception right before the

  conference tournament starts. But yeah, that was just such a
• 2:21
  disappointing result there. I thought the Benson was was
• 2:24
  amazing on both ends of the core.

  Played all 40 minutes and really kept Milamont Chilovich on check
• 2:28
  in check. But now for Iowa State, when
• 2:33
  they do go to Arizona, and that's still a yet another tough
• 2:36
  opponent, another tough place to play, how are they going to
• 2:39
  respond to that? Or, and you know the, the
• 2:41
  perception is starting to form now, but are they able to shed
• 2:44
  that label or show that they really can close one out on the
• 2:47
  road against marquee top competition?

  Buchanan was under the weather, had to dealing with some

  headaches apparently during practice between the BYU and the
• 2:55
  Utah game. So he came off the bench play to
• 2:58
  started in his place, play that had been playing exceptionally
• 3:02
  well but doing so when he was coming off the bench.

  Buchanan was, you know, depend what night you watched him, but
• 3:06
  I thought he was really good off the bench.

  How will TJ handle this? Does Buchanan go back in the
• 3:11
  starting line up? Does it matter?

  Did that come up in the conversation with TJI believe

  yesterday you guys had him? It sounds like we can we'll be

  back in the starting lineup. TJ Alta Burger said that he was

  all systems go. He was back to normal intensity

  back in practice, full participant, no problems.

  The headaches that were plaguing him during the second-half of

  that Utah road trip are pretty much resolved now and he's been
• 3:34
  back to work. So I fully expect him to be back

  in the starting 5. But it was a good showing for

  Buchanan off the bench. I thought he did his job on both
• 3:42
  ends of the quarter yet 10 points also had two steals, 2
• 3:45
  blocks. So he's really getting after it
• 3:46
  was really disruptive and you saw the big and really, you
• 3:49
  know, it's not easy to to cover so much ground.

  But for him at 611 and to to see it move all over the court and
• 3:55
  be disruptive, that that was impressive.

  Buchanan is this the first time that headaches have, you know,

  have plagued him or is this something that he's had to deal
• 4:04
  with either throughout his career or, or, or this year?

  Do you know the answer to that, Eugene?

  Is it was this a one time thing or is this something that pops

  They they wouldn't disclose that as of right now.

  From what we do know is that it did seem going to be like a

  temporary blip that that had to just, you know, start it up,

  flared up. Hopefully for Iowa State fans,

  they're going to hope that that was only a one time deal.

  But definitely an interesting thing to see a player limited in

  practice, limited participation due to headaches.

  I've had a migraine once in a while.

  It's not great, but you know, for for him and and you just see

  how tough the Iowa State basketball players are.

  It must have been really bad if if it was really holding back

  for a couple days there. You know what we heard with

  Buchanan and him coming back and and getting over these

  headaches, Were you surprised, A surprise though the TJ said that

  plate is going to remain in the starting line up.

  It maybe it's something that they kind of almost stumbled

  across something here in Buchanan with the foul trouble

  that we've seen, Maybe it does make sense long term for him to

  come off the bench. Yeah.

  Oh, sorry. Just to clarify, no, I I believe

  that that Buchanan will be back in the in the starting 5.

  I thought, I thought I'd read something yesterday that said

  that Plato was going to remain, but I could be off on that.

  Yeah, we'll see on Saturday, but I think it's one of those things

  where I was stated it doesn't seem to really matter like where

  they they put their players, whether it's starting or coming

  off the bench. It seems like the guys are

  really bought into their roles. I think that it's interesting
• 5:32
  that instead of starting five, they call it the first five.

  So it seems very intentional on their part, but I think for

  whether it's Buchanan, whether it's Plato, it, it seems like
• 5:42
  that they have tremendous confidence in those guys.

  But, you know, you look at a guy like Nate Heisey, like there

  were times where he's had to step in as a starter and just
• 5:49
  seamlessly did it. So I think that regardless of
• 5:53
  where those guys land, I think it'll all work out the way that
• 5:56
  Iowa State hopes it will. But But yeah, great showing from
• 5:59
  Buchanan though, coming off the bench there.

  Well, we know Bateman's going to come off the bench at least till
• 6:03
  the end of this year and then next year, who knows what it's
• 6:05
  going to be because I think his arrow and in his ceiling is
• 6:09
  incredibly high. I love the way he's playing.

  I love the confidence that the young man is showing.
• 6:14
  Yeah, struggled against Utah with the three, but there
• 6:17
  haven't been many of those nights, Eugene, as you know that
• 6:20
  that the three were not falling. Bateman is certainly playing his
• 6:24
  best basketball since he's been at Iowa State. 24, I think that
• 6:32
  he's currently on just such an upward trajectory.

  I think if you look at over the last three weeks, maybe the last
• 6:38
  month even, you look at a guy like Bateman, I think there's an
• 6:42
  argument there to say that he was probably probably been Iowa
• 6:45
  State's like a top four, top five performer in that rotation
• 6:50
  over the last three weeks. He's really come along well and,
• 6:53
  and I thought what really jumped out at me in the Utah game was
• 6:56
  just his effort on the defensive end, just his ability to shot
• 6:59
  contest, really get a couple of steals there, get some action
• 7:03
  going in transition, like he was really getting after on both
• 7:07
  ends of the court. And I think for TJ Otzenberger,
• 7:10
  if you're an Iowa State fan, you love to see that type of
• 7:13
  intensity at all levels of the the floor, especially as we come
• 7:16
  down the home stretch here and then Thomas Turner right around
• 7:19
  the corner, and then the big dance right after that.
• 7:21
  Quick turn around with the big Monday game against Arizona
• 7:24
  after this one, anticipate that they're going to get over there.

  Just this kind of normal schedule, get there Sunday.

  Do you know what the departure time kind of what the travel

  plans are for this one and that quick turn around?

  I wish, I wish I knew the exact schedule.

  You know, TJ Altoberger is one of those guys that they could
• 7:41
  have a game the next day and he will refuse to comment about it

  until that previous one is played.

  But I I would imagine that that's probably what the plan

  is. But of course, you know, it's,

  it's definitely something to watch because it it is not an
• 7:55
  easy turn around. You go from Tech, who even

  without JT Topping has been playing well without him.

  And then now you got Arizona. And that's, that's just been the

  big one that everyone's had circle for months now.

  Well, especially after the way it ended last year, etcetera,

  with the with the overtime loss and the way it ended at the end

  of the 40 minutes, just an improbable shot, but it was.

  And I can't wait for that game on Monday.

  And Trent mentioned it early and I think he's right.

  I think this team should go out, you know, maybe, maybe Saturday

  night, get out there and you know, mate, spend some bonding

  time. I know that they're just coming
• 8:26
  off that bonding opportunity in Utah, but we shall see where it

  goes As far as the women, Eugene, I want to pick your

  brain on this. I know Tommy's the primary guy
• 8:35
  on the beat, but the fact that they're struggling to finish
• 8:39
  games. They've had leads in the in the
• 8:41
  fourth quarter. I mean that TCU game that would
• 8:44
  have been so huge for Iowa State to get that one and then let
• 8:47
  Oklahoma State come come back and beat them at home on
• 8:51
  Wednesday night. They'll be in Manhattan to for
• 8:54
  the end of their regular season, but what is about this team in
• 8:57
  the final 10 minutes that they've struggled to closeout
• 8:59
  games recently? Yeah, it's been an alarming
• 9:03
  stretch too, because it felt like for a while there, Iowa
• 9:05
  State was really starting to rebuild momentum.
• 9:08
  I think just ultimately, especially at this late of the
• 9:10
  season, you don't want to see those those type of closing
• 9:13
  problems. I'm I'm curious to see how Bill
• 9:16
  family gets the team put them back into shape as they prepare
• 9:19
  for this final push here to to end the regular season.

  But it's one of those things where, you know, you have a team
• 9:26
  that when you have a team on the ropes, you got to knock them
• 9:29
  out. And it's unfortunate for I would
• 9:31
  say that they haven't been able to do so because, you know,
• 9:34
  after all those injuries and all that, when they were really
• 9:36
  starting to rebuild that waiting momentum, you started to feel
• 9:38
  really good about this team again.

  And then now you have these back-to-back losses that are a
• 9:44
  tough pill to swallow. But hopefully they can get
• 9:47
  things turned around just in time for the post season.

  Not how, not sure how much you watch it, but Addie Brown, she's
• 9:52
  been back, got a couple, got a win against Arizona State in her
• 9:55
  first return. She certainly doesn't look 100%
• 9:58
  healthy. Any idea, any insight into that?

  Is is this just what she's going to be for the rest of the
• 10:03
  season? Is it getting her lungs back and
• 10:05
  obviously getting the conditioning part?

  Any idea on Addie Brown if we're going to see the Addie Brown

  that we saw back in November and December?

  Yeah, I personally feel like it's, it's more of like a

  conditioning, just kind of getting re acclimated to this

  type of intensity, this type of action.

  You even see players sometimes like they'll miss a couple of

  weeks or even if it's a a less severe injury and it still takes
• 10:25
  them a couple of games before they really start to look like

  themselves again. I feel like this is probably the

  case with Addie Brown once again.

  I mean, Tommy Birch will be able to speak to it more.

  But I, I do feel like that there is a conditioning piece here

  that that is definitely at play. Whether or not it's the whole
• 10:41
  or, or the majority equation remains to be seen.

  But I I think that that is definitely playing a part in
• 10:47
  what we're seeing right now from her.

  Looking ahead, obviously with three games left for for the men

  back to them for just a second, what where, where do you think

  that they will fall as far as the Big 12 bracket and when
• 10:58
  would they begin played? Have you kind of mapped that out

  yet? Again, it's tough to do because
• 11:02
  you know that's how Texas Tech is going to go.

  But let's say they win 2 out of their next three.

  They fall to Arizona, beat Arizona, stayed at home next

  week. Do you know where that would put

  them and what time that they would tip in Kansas?

  Have you looked for that far ahead, Eugene, or no?

  So I've tried looking at the standings and the crazy part is

  right now this race is just so much fun.

  I mean you got Arizona who's got a two game lead on a four way

  tie in second place and Iowa State's one of those teams

  that's in there. I tried mapping out some of the

  scenarios and it really does depend on how the rest of that

  four way tie shakes out as well, because there's still a lot of
• 11:37
  big games out there between the the top five top six teams in
• 11:41
  the conference. So I think that it's still too
• 11:45
  early to say because there will be definite tiebreakers and
• 11:48
  things applied like that. So I, I wish like I thought that
• 11:51
  there would be like a straightforward answer when I
• 11:53
  started to look at it thinking if they go 2 and one lose at
• 11:56
  Arizona, then maybe we can put them at a, you know #2 or #3
• 12:00
  because yeah, we at this point of the game, the seed matters.

  But more importantly, you want to know what time to mentally
• 12:08
  prepare yourself or what the itinerary will look like.

  But right now there's just so many games still up in the air.

  I think that four way tie is something that's true
• 12:18
  interesting at this point of the, the season to have that

  kind of congestion up top. And, and so we're going to see

  how things shake out over the next couple of games.

  But I wish I had a more definite answer for you.

  I do feel like the top four seed is still very much in play, but

  I wish I could say, you know that there are two if this three

  if this because there are still a lot of other results around

  the conference that would impact how how the scenarios fall.

  Texas Tech, the likelihood is they're going to play out

  Wednesday in the second really, and not get the double buy into

  the quarterfinals if that plays out.
