- 0:39SPEAKER_07: Welcome in everybody to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by Guns Up Nation, part of the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_07: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:49SPEAKER_07: Tristan, we are talking basketball today, my friend.
- 0:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's good vibes only right now, sir.
- 0:55SPEAKER_06: It's just nothing but happy moods.
- 0:56SPEAKER_06: That's all there is.
- 0:57SPEAKER_06: That's all there could be had.
- 0:59SPEAKER_07: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:00SPEAKER_07: We we've only been good in men's basketball right now.
- 1:03SPEAKER_07: We are absolutely killing it.
- 1:04SPEAKER_07: Uh, coming off a huge win against the Jayhawks, the number six Jayhawks.
- 1:10SPEAKER_07: We're gonna talk a little bit about that game.
- 1:12SPEAKER_07: We're gonna talk some recent basketball commits, what we got coming in the class of 2022.
- 1:18SPEAKER_07: And then we are going to preview the big game on Tuesday against the number one Baylor Bears with our good buddy Joe Goodman.
- 1:26SPEAKER_07: Uh, that's gonna be towards the end of this episode.
- 1:29SPEAKER_07: Uh, but we have to talk about this Kansas game first because what a huge win it was for Texas Tech.
- 1:35SPEAKER_07: Uh, shorthanded, still uh still getting guys back slowly.
- 1:39SPEAKER_07: Uh, but without our two best players and Terrence Shannon and Kevin McCullough, and we still upset the Jayhawks.
- 1:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah, much like the Iowa State game, you had to rely on the the depth guys to step up, and they absolutely did.
- 1:50SPEAKER_06: And not only did they step up to for a competitive game, they went and did the whole thing.
- 1:55SPEAKER_06: They went and won the thing, you know.
- 1:57SPEAKER_06: So it's just a great bounce back from the Iowa State game without your two leaders on the court, just incredible stuff.
- 2:02SPEAKER_06: I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the energy they fed off of in the U with the USA.
- 2:06SPEAKER_06: Uh, still only at about half strength because school is not in session yet.
- 2:10SPEAKER_06: So uh that was still a loud arena for not even a full capacity one yet.
- 2:15SPEAKER_06: So just imagine as we start getting further into the meat of the meat of the season as uh the students start coming back on campus, just gonna be even louder.
- 2:23SPEAKER_06: Just a great showing from the team and the fans.
- 2:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah, no doubt.
- 2:26SPEAKER_07: Definitely a great showing from the Red Raider fans.
- 2:29SPEAKER_07: Uh, tech wins this one 75 to 67.
- 2:32SPEAKER_07: And like you said, it was the depth guys.
- 2:34SPEAKER_07: I mean, it was it was guys stepping up that haven't really stepped up this year yet.
- 2:39SPEAKER_07: Uh, you know, we spent a lot of time on last week's episode criticizing Bryson Williams and saying, you know, this guy needs to bring it against the good teams, he's brought it against the the small teams, the the teams that we need to beat, but he hasn't really brought it in the Providences, in the Gonzagas, in the Tennessees.
- 2:57SPEAKER_07: He hasn't really brought what you want from him.
- 2:59SPEAKER_07: And man, he brought it against Kansas and he did it in such a big way.
- 3:03SPEAKER_05: Do we owe him an apology?
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: Is that is that the tech owe him an apology?
- 3:08SPEAKER_07: Listen, if it takes us criticizing a player to do better, uh, you know, maybe that's just what it is.
- 3:14SPEAKER_06: Well, we do know that this is what the the players listen to in between games to see the absolutely on the fans and and what the spot talk important spot uh talking sport heads are saying about the team they come to talking tech pod.
- 3:27SPEAKER_06: I understand that, Bryson, and and you're getting an apology out of us right now.
- 3:30SPEAKER_06: I I am sorry that we criticized you before because all is forgiven.
- 3:34SPEAKER_06: You go and beat the blue blood uh in the Big 12, the the the biggest game of the year, oftentimes.
- 3:39SPEAKER_06: So thank you so much for bringing that W home at home.
- 3:42SPEAKER_06: That was that was some just an amazing showing from him.
- 3:45SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I mean that was the Bryson Williams we were promised.
- 3:47SPEAKER_07: That was the guy coming in from UTEP, the the guy that we thought he was going to be all year, and and maybe he just found his stride.
- 3:54SPEAKER_07: And uh, you know, the the coaching staff has always talked him up, saying he's the hardest worker in the gym, uh, you know, the type of guy that is super coachable and can be a real leader on this team.
- 4:03SPEAKER_07: And uh, you know, he struggled early uh trying to find his groove and he found it this game.
- 4:09SPEAKER_07: I mean, 22 points, eight rebounds, nine of 13 from the field, uh knocked down a three-pointer there.
- 4:14SPEAKER_07: And and really, when we needed a bucket in that second half, he delivered in every way down low, uh, outside shot, getting offensive rebounds.
- 4:23SPEAKER_07: He he was the reason.
- 4:25SPEAKER_07: I mean, the biggest reason we won this game.
- 4:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, he he led the team in field goals.
- 4:30SPEAKER_06: So that that's definitely going to get you up on the scoreboard and just completely unexpected from a guy like him, you know, with the way it's been showing.
- 4:37SPEAKER_06: So again, you you've said it best, hats off.
- 4:40SPEAKER_06: You know, he showed off his athleticism, working both the offense and the defense.
- 4:43SPEAKER_06: So it's just so it's about time, you know.
- 4:45SPEAKER_06: I'm just I'm so glad to see him back.
- 4:47SPEAKER_07: Yeah, no doubt.
- 4:48SPEAKER_07: And another guy that really helped us out, uh, stepping up in a big way was was the Frenchie himself, Clarence Nedoni brought it on both ends.
- 4:56SPEAKER_07: The energy, the con the constant hustle that this guy brings to the team, and then his finishing, man, at the rim.
- 5:02SPEAKER_07: I mean, he he was he was playing against Randy Martin, who clearly is is a little hurt there.
- 5:07SPEAKER_07: You can tell he does he's not at full strength.
- 5:09SPEAKER_07: He's normally a pretty uh better player than what we saw out there.
- 5:13SPEAKER_07: But but Clarence noticed that and he brought it to him.
- 5:15SPEAKER_07: I mean, he got past him nearly every time.
- 5:17SPEAKER_07: Uh, he was cutting to the rim, guys were finding him open, he was finishing difficult layups.
- 5:22SPEAKER_07: I mean, uh making his free throws, he was five of five from the free throw line.
- 5:26SPEAKER_07: So uh big best game Clarence and Dolney has played by far as a red raider.
- 5:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the word that kept popping up in my mind, and you kind of already touched on it, was slippery.
- 5:35SPEAKER_06: He would just you know just snake his way into the hoop, and it just it was so beautiful to watch.
- 5:40SPEAKER_06: He was like a French artiste painting his work of art, man.
- 5:44SPEAKER_06: It was so great to see.
- 5:46SPEAKER_06: Um, and uh he like you said, I like that you touched on energy.
- 5:49SPEAKER_06: I mean, the guy was just hyped the entire time.
- 5:51SPEAKER_06: Like after every bucket, you could see see just the the energy emanating off of him and just celebrating with the team, it just really showing off his future leader, you know, presence.
- 6:01SPEAKER_07: Yeah, no doubt.
- 6:02SPEAKER_07: I mean, he's definitely earned himself a bigger spot on this team.
- 6:06SPEAKER_07: Uh I mean, coming after a performance like this and and what he brought against Iowa State, he he's gonna be even when McCullough comes back, I'm sure he's gonna get moved back to the bench, but uh he's gonna get 20 to 25 minutes a night.
- 6:20SPEAKER_07: I mean, guaranteed, just from pure hustle.
- 6:22SPEAKER_07: I can see him finishing games too with with how he's played these last few nights.
- 6:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and like you said, he deserves it, man.
- 6:29SPEAKER_06: The way he stepped up for Iowa State and now Kansas, uh, just seeing a guy, you know, really take hold of his moment.
- 6:35SPEAKER_06: You know, he he he this this was an opportunity presented to him by uh the leading players being out, so they just it's more minutes to be passed around.
- 6:43SPEAKER_06: The guy went and grabbed those minutes, you know.
- 6:44SPEAKER_06: He he led the team in minutes, deservedly so in this game.
- 6:48SPEAKER_06: And he he, like you said, he deserves to hang on to him with just the way he hustles and the way he can get to to the net and bring up some free throws with him.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: On top of that, you know, his and one working was amazing as well.
- 6:59SPEAKER_06: So it's just just a phenomenal effort from him.
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: I think he was probably the MVP of the game on our side because he just really showed up.
- 7:06SPEAKER_07: Yeah, definitely.
- 7:06SPEAKER_07: Him or Bryson.
- 7:07SPEAKER_07: I mean, they're both just such crucial pieces to this team and uh necessary offense because you know, against Iowa State, we scored 47 points this game.
- 7:17SPEAKER_07: We scored 75.
- 7:18SPEAKER_07: So there's definitely uh a boost in offense there.
- 7:21SPEAKER_07: Um, wouldn't touch on a few more guys that that just played their butts off.
- 7:25SPEAKER_07: I thought Davion Warren had a fantastic second half, uh, particularly on the defensive side.
- 7:29SPEAKER_07: He had his moments on offense.
- 7:31SPEAKER_07: He got that clutch and one where we finally broke the zone after many possessions of just not figuring it out.
- 7:38SPEAKER_07: He just he drives to the rim and and got a couple big free throws and big and ones.
- 7:43SPEAKER_07: But defensively, I want I just want to say this about Davion Warren.
- 7:47SPEAKER_07: This guy has bought in 100% to a Mark Adams brand of basketball.
- 7:54SPEAKER_07: Um, coming in, he was a big time scorer from Hampton, 20 almost 22 points a game, one of the leading scorers in the entire nation last season.
- 8:02SPEAKER_07: And he comes in here and plays a role that is completely different, a role where you're drawing charges constantly, you're getting deflections, you're switching on guys masterfully.
- 8:14SPEAKER_07: And I can't say enough about what Davion Warren has brought to this team on the defensive side.
- 8:19SPEAKER_07: And then, you know, when you do need a bucket, he can also provide that for you.
- 8:22SPEAKER_07: So uh I was really happy with Davion in that second half.
- 8:26SPEAKER_06: I mean, Jeff definitely an adjective you can apply to him, and just you know, with the Mark Adams brand of basketball, but he really showed his physicality.
- 8:32SPEAKER_06: You know, these a lot of these guys just play with near reckless abandon where they just look like they're not afraid to get hurt, that they know this is a physical sport, people you know are gonna be bumping into each other, and these guys, these players just lean into it.
- 8:44SPEAKER_06: And he really showed with Warren, it's just so cool to see him accept that that phase shift from just lighting it up on the scoreboard to winning the game on the other side of the ball.
- 8:53SPEAKER_06: So it's just so great because I mean, you know, you're talking about how he was uh averaging 20 20 plus points a game.
- 8:58SPEAKER_06: He only got seven this game, but still made a huge impact.
- 9:01SPEAKER_06: So it's just so great to see a player that's that versatile and willing to sacrifice that sort of fame for the team, and it's just so good to see.
- 9:10SPEAKER_07: Yeah, no doubt.
- 9:10SPEAKER_07: And uh another guy like that is O'Banner.
- 9:12SPEAKER_07: I mean, O'Banner hasn't been the offensive type of player that we expected coming in from Oral Roberts.
- 9:18SPEAKER_07: He's he's not necessarily knocking down his threes, but what the dude is finding a niche in is rebounding.
- 9:25SPEAKER_07: He is absolutely fighting down low, and I mean, has been a massive part.
- 9:31SPEAKER_07: He he had that huge rebound that turned into a jump ball there on the offensive side of the floor, uh, late in the game against Kansas.
- 9:38SPEAKER_07: And it's just that type of stuff.
- 9:39SPEAKER_07: The the type of stuff that you can't teach.
- 9:41SPEAKER_07: It's just got to be in your blood and it's just pure effort.
- 9:45SPEAKER_07: And so even when O'Banner's not knocking down his threes, he's still finding a way to be useful on this team by grabbing rebounds, and he's been fantastic on the defensive side too, switching really nicely, same thing as Davion Warren.
- 9:58SPEAKER_07: So um, I'm just really proud of those two guys.
- 10:01SPEAKER_07: And uh, I know it can get frustrating when you're not making your shots, but still finding a way to be useful and to be a key part of this win is huge.
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I would not have picked Kevin O'Banner to be the rebounding machine he's become.
- 10:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we I think we brought him in all thinking he was gonna light up the three-point range, and like you said, it hasn't exactly fallen into place quite yet.
- 10:21SPEAKER_06: I'm sure it will as the season moves on.
- 10:23SPEAKER_06: Like we kind of find our vibe or our flow within the the passing and shooting game.
- 10:28SPEAKER_06: But dude, I like you said, he just goes up for every single ball.
- 10:32SPEAKER_06: He is always under the net looking for it.
- 10:34SPEAKER_06: So it's it's good to see a guy, like you, like you said, find another way to make himself useful.
- 10:39SPEAKER_06: I mean, you're you're pretty much beating me to the to the point every time here on these guys.
- 10:42SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I mean, I just I'm I'm just really proud of these guys.
- 10:45SPEAKER_07: I think this is such a huge win for this team.
- 10:48SPEAKER_07: And uh, you know, a couple more to highlight.
- 10:50SPEAKER_07: This was San Osilva's best game of the year by far.
- 10:53SPEAKER_07: I mean, I thought Marcus brought it on both ends of the floor.
- 10:56SPEAKER_07: He helps the ball move really nicely when he's in there on offense, setting the screens constantly, getting the ball, passing, keeping it moving in stuff that you need to do, especially when you're playing against a zone defense.
- 11:07SPEAKER_07: He was rebounding, he got that big and one there that just hyped up the entire crowd in the second half.
- 11:13SPEAKER_07: I mean, plays the big block on Christian uh Brown at the end there.
- 11:17SPEAKER_07: I mean, he brought it.
- 11:19SPEAKER_07: That was that's what Marcus Sanosilva's role is on this team, and he played it beautifully.
- 11:24SPEAKER_06: I mean, we're talking about energy with Nadoly.
- 11:26SPEAKER_06: I mean, energy emanates off of the MSS as well.
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: Like that guy lets out a Hulk roar after his big plays, and it just gets the whole arena hyped up, man.
- 11:37SPEAKER_06: You can feel it.
- 11:38SPEAKER_06: I mean, he's a big dude, and when he does big things, I think the whole ground rumbles.
- 11:42SPEAKER_06: So it's just it's so good to see him maintaining that role we he's he's filled up last season as well, just getting out there and being a big bully, you know, just bumping into making other uh making the offs offense hell for the other team, you know.
- 11:56SPEAKER_06: So just you don't want to have to go up against MSS.
- 11:58SPEAKER_06: And he he makes that known.
- 12:00SPEAKER_07: Yeah, no doubt.
- 12:01SPEAKER_07: You run into a screen from MSS, you're it's like a car hitting you.
- 12:06SPEAKER_07: So yeah, like the bulkiest dude on the team.
- 12:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah, seriously.
- 12:10SPEAKER_07: He's he's he's a strong one, but uh shouts out to him.
- 12:13SPEAKER_07: And then uh we did get a few guys back from uh that missed the Iowa State game.
- 12:17SPEAKER_07: Guys like uh Daniel Baccia was back, got a got a dunk in there, didn't play many minutes this game, but he's still probably getting back into the swing after missing a game.
- 12:25SPEAKER_07: Uh, but Malik Wilson, this was the biggest one because this is a guy who just had a a microscopic surgery on his knee, uh, I mean, weeks ago, and he's already back.
- 12:35SPEAKER_07: And you can tell he's still, you know, kind of ginger when he moves, and uh, you know, he's not back to full strength yet.
- 12:41SPEAKER_07: But this is his first game back, and he provided, I mean, huge moments for this team.
- 12:46SPEAKER_07: A massive three-pointer there in the second half, five assists.
- 12:49SPEAKER_07: He was really finding the open man, uh, and then you know, a couple huge steals.
- 12:53SPEAKER_07: And uh, I I was I was really happy to get Malik back on the floor because the more ball handlers, the more facilitators that we can get with McCullough and Shannon out, the better.
- 13:02SPEAKER_06: I mean, yeah, that this is the game of depth.
- 13:04SPEAKER_06: And even over your guy that's just coming right out of a surgery can come in and make an instant difference.
- 13:09SPEAKER_06: That just man, this this team is full of winners.
- 13:12SPEAKER_06: This team is full of effort, no matter where they are, no matter what their role is on the team.
- 13:16SPEAKER_06: This guy just kind of proves that.
- 13:17SPEAKER_06: You know, everyone's just so bought in, as you said earlier.
- 13:20SPEAKER_06: And it's just everyone seems like they have the same goal.
- 13:23SPEAKER_06: I don't see anybody on this court that's out to just race their NBA draft to draft stock or anything like that, or just hog up points and minutes and all that.
- 13:30SPEAKER_06: I just these guys are all here to work together to win games, and that's how you beat the Kansas Shayhawks.
- 13:35SPEAKER_06: You don't beat the Kansas Shayhawks with hero ball, you win by working as a team.
- 13:38SPEAKER_06: That's what these guys did.
- 13:39SPEAKER_06: It was it was just incredible to watch.
- 13:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and it's not like Kansas had a bad night.
- 13:43SPEAKER_07: I mean, Akbaji played fantastic on the offensive side of the floor.
- 13:47SPEAKER_07: Same with Jalen Wilson.
- 13:48SPEAKER_07: Jalen Wilson came in, I think like two for 24 from three-point line, and he made three of them this game.
- 13:54SPEAKER_07: He was making it seemed like I think he was six for eight from the field.
- 13:57SPEAKER_07: He was fantastic.
- 13:58SPEAKER_07: Akbaji made every I swear, every three-pointer he shot, he made it was just like, come on, like I know, I know you're so good, but just miss one of them here.
- 14:10SPEAKER_07: Uh and then even uh Christian Brown came in and had some big moments, got that big time steal and dunk, and we just kept fending them off.
- 14:18SPEAKER_07: You know, they would have a run, they would score five straight, and then we would get them back with five more, or they would score seven straight, we would come back with three more, just constantly weathering the storm of the Kansas offense that is so good and holding them to 67 points was just massive.
- 14:36SPEAKER_06: And with like with a beat-up team as well, man, like that, just it can't be understated with with how uh at disadvantaged we were on paper going into this game.
- 14:46SPEAKER_06: I think it would have been kind of crazy to pick X tech in this game.
- 14:49SPEAKER_06: I I mean, I don't know if we were full set full-fledged uh set on us winning.
- 14:52SPEAKER_06: I mean, we always are in our hearts, but you know, whenever you're looking at the game as is, it's tough to say that.
- 14:57SPEAKER_06: But just to come out here and lock down these absolute studs, you know, it was so funny where I was watching the game.
- 15:02SPEAKER_06: Anytime they would nail a huge three or just like have a great offensive run with amazing passing, you're like, God, I hate being reminded that we're playing Kansas, you know, because it's just you you know that this is the royalty in the conference, and they don't mess around any night.
- 15:15SPEAKER_06: And to see us just lock it down and respond, every time they would respond, we would respond even bigger, and it just shows the grit this team showed.
- 15:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah, for sure.
- 15:24SPEAKER_07: I mean, you said it beautifully.
- 15:25SPEAKER_07: Um, so huge win over the Jayhawks.
- 15:28SPEAKER_07: Uh, you know, we're one-and-one in conference now, uh, going up against, you know, another pretty good opponent, I'd say, uh, tomorrow against Baylor.
- 15:36SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're gonna talk to our buddy Joe Goodman here in a bit about that game.
- 15:40SPEAKER_07: But before we hit on that, we got to talk some uh some commits because some good things happened.
- 15:46SPEAKER_07: And then uh actually, we got the the the news a few minutes ago that some bad things have happened.
- 15:51SPEAKER_07: Uh we'll start with the bad.
- 15:53SPEAKER_07: Uh looks like Siddhar Calhoun has decided to transfer um from Texas Tech, obviously, not getting the minutes that he wanted.
- 16:02SPEAKER_07: Uh, he went through some injury stuff.
- 16:04SPEAKER_07: I know he had COVID this year already, so uh, and he just couldn't find his way in the rotation at all this year.
- 16:10SPEAKER_07: So on paper and on the court, it's not going to be a big loss.
- 16:14SPEAKER_07: Um, but you liked the idea of Calhoun being on this team because of what a good shooter he is and what he could potentially bring.
- 16:23SPEAKER_07: But uh, you know, overall, it's not a huge loss.
- 16:26SPEAKER_07: It's it's a bench warmer, it's a guy that didn't play many minutes, and and he's decided to leave Texas Tech.
- 16:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, it's it's never good to hear you're losing players ever.
- 16:37SPEAKER_06: I mean, because even if there's just serving as depth, it's nice to have depth.
- 16:40SPEAKER_06: We were here we are playing bare bones, so it's nice having some more players in the pocket.
- 16:46SPEAKER_06: But I mean, you're absolutely right.
- 16:48SPEAKER_06: It just shows how many good players we have right now where he feels like he won't be able to break in.
- 16:52SPEAKER_06: Good for him for recognizing that.
- 16:54SPEAKER_06: Go get yours, go get your minutes somewhere where you'll make a big difference because obviously we we're we're set on our studs, and it's hard to break through that.
- 17:02SPEAKER_06: So, I mean, I I'm not mad at him, and it's just just so it's always disappointing losing players no matter what, no matter how much they contributed or not.
- 17:09SPEAKER_06: So, um, I mean, good luck to him.
- 17:11SPEAKER_06: He has what one more year left, so might as well make the most of it.
- 17:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah, for sure.
- 17:15SPEAKER_07: You know, go go find a different team that maybe fits your system a little, fits your play style a little better, maybe I don't know, maybe go to a lower level team.
- 17:22SPEAKER_07: I don't know, but uh wish the best for him for sure.
- 17:25SPEAKER_07: Um, but it's not a huge loss for the Red Raiders in the grand scheme.
- 17:28SPEAKER_07: Uh, but let's talk about a guy that we did just get.
- 17:31SPEAKER_07: And it's not and and and it's significant in a lot of different ways because um, you know, when Beard left in his final year at Texas Tech, he had one one recruit that he decided to bring on to Texas Tech, and then he bounced for Austin.
- 17:48SPEAKER_07: And that was Jalen Tyson, uh, a four-star, five-star, depending on where you're looking, what website you're looking at.
- 17:54SPEAKER_07: Uh, really good prospect.
- 17:55SPEAKER_07: I think he's a top 40 prospect in the class of 2021.
- 18:00SPEAKER_07: And, you know, we were hyped up, we were ready for him to come to Texas Tech, and then he decides to follow Chris Beard to Austin and go to Longhorns.
- 18:08SPEAKER_07: You know, I don't and we didn't blame the kid.
- 18:10SPEAKER_07: You know, you're recruited by a coach and you want to follow said coach, not a big deal.
- 18:15SPEAKER_07: But he's already decided to leave the program at UT.
- 18:20SPEAKER_07: And on top of that, he's already recommitted back to Texas Tech to Mark Adams to come back to Lubbock and play for Texas Tech.
- 18:29SPEAKER_07: He's not going to be eligible to play this season, but he's going to be on next year's team and he's going to start.
- 18:34SPEAKER_07: He's already in on campus and gonna be practicing with this year's team.
- 18:40SPEAKER_07: Uh, he can't play, but this is such a huge pickup because it just shows that the culture is not changed at Texas Tech.
- 18:48SPEAKER_07: This is the same culture, this is the same winning attitude and mindset that we have.
- 18:53SPEAKER_07: And I think Jalen Tyson coming back here just proves it.
- 18:57SPEAKER_06: I mean, Mark Adams said it.
- 18:58SPEAKER_06: He said, We're not going anywhere.
- 19:00SPEAKER_06: You know, this is this is a program that wants to win.
- 19:03SPEAKER_06: We've thrown the resources behind it to do so.
- 19:05SPEAKER_06: And the players have bought in, the fans have bought in.
- 19:07SPEAKER_06: You know, it's I I get I spoil up with so much pride whenever I hear all these talking heads in the big media saying about talking about how great Texas Tech fans are in basketball and how tough of a place it is to play.
- 19:19SPEAKER_06: So it's just so good seeing everybody so committed.
- 19:21SPEAKER_06: You can see the players are feeding off of that too, with with Jalen Tyson coming back.
- 19:25SPEAKER_06: But I mean, this all happened within what a week?
- 19:28SPEAKER_06: He like he he decides he's leaving Texas and he's gonna commits to Texas Tech within like a week.
- 19:34SPEAKER_06: Do you think that maybe he he realized that it wasn't so much Chris Beard I I wanted to follow, but more the program he had built at Texas Tech at the time.
- 19:44SPEAKER_06: You want to be a part of that, be a part of Lubbock and Mark Adams's attitude.
- 19:47SPEAKER_06: He wants all of that instead.
- 19:49SPEAKER_06: You think that's more of what it is?
- 19:51SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I mean, he he took three visits, I believe, after he left Texas.
- 19:55SPEAKER_07: He he was considering TCU, Colorado, and then Texas Tech.
- 19:59SPEAKER_07: Um, and obviously he didn't he didn't get to see because it was during COVID, he didn't get to see uh Lubbock and and visit and see the womble and everything.
- 20:08SPEAKER_07: But what he did get to what he was at was at that Kansas game.
- 20:11SPEAKER_07: Uh so you know that was probably a big selling point on top of you know everything else that Mark Adams brings to the program and and the recruiting the the assistant coaches that we have now that are also great recruiters, as we've seen.
- 20:24SPEAKER_07: Um, but I I think it says more to what Chris Beard has done.
- 20:30SPEAKER_07: And yeah, you know, I I hate just talking about the guy and keep bringing him up, but uh we've seen it now the last couple seasons, even with Texas Tech, that he's gotten high-level high school recruits, and he promises stuff that he can't give to them.
- 20:48SPEAKER_07: I mean, for him, it happened with Namari Burnett here at Texas Tech.
- 20:52SPEAKER_07: I mean, he went out into the transfer portal, got a great player in Mac McClung, but also before that, you know, kind of promised Namari Burnett starting minutes.
- 21:02SPEAKER_07: And this is now the second high-level high school recruit that has left the program before conference play starts, uh of Chris Beard's teams.
- 21:11SPEAKER_07: And so I think that says more about him than it does anything.
- 21:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I what a shame.
- 21:18SPEAKER_06: What a shame if this is a chronic issue for country club crisp, man.
- 21:21SPEAKER_06: What a what a damn shame it would be.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: What a shame.
- 21:23SPEAKER_06: And I'm just so glad that Mark Adams there was there to mop up the mess and put things back together, kind of put things to the way things should have been from the beginning.
- 21:31SPEAKER_06: And uh no, nothing against uh Jalen.
- 21:35SPEAKER_06: And obviously, we love him to death now.
- 21:36SPEAKER_06: And I'm just I'm so excited to see him on the court.
- 21:39SPEAKER_06: And I was telling you all last night, I'm just I'm still not used to recruiting these four and five star players.
- 21:44SPEAKER_06: It's just incredible to see what Mark Adams has withheld at X Tech and what he's helped build.
- 21:49SPEAKER_06: Um, and now it's his.
- 21:50SPEAKER_06: And it's just it's amazing to see that ship continuing to sail.
- 21:53SPEAKER_06: And one of the team, one of the coaches is training their team in the right direction, the other coach is training the team in the wrong direction.
- 21:58SPEAKER_06: And I last I checked.
- 22:00SPEAKER_06: One team is ranked above the other as well, so there's just a lot of things that don't exactly stink if you're a Texas Tech fan right now.
- 22:07SPEAKER_06: That's all I'm saying.
- 22:08SPEAKER_06: Obviously, we don't like to harp on the other guy on this podcast because we're Mark Adams dudes here.
- 22:12SPEAKER_06: Uh, but man, it's just it's a great time to be a red raider for sure, for sure, absolutely.
- 22:18SPEAKER_07: And and I think what this shows is that not only can Mark Adams recruit transfers, as we've seen from the guys he's got on this year's team, but he can recruit the high school ranks too.
- 22:29SPEAKER_07: And I mean, we have a really, really good class coming in of uh of 2022 guys that are gonna be instant impact players because uh as much as we don't want to admit it, we're gonna lose a lot from this year's team next year.
- 22:40SPEAKER_07: And and you know, this is early.
- 22:42SPEAKER_07: We're talking about stuff that you know, this season isn't it's still halfway.
- 22:46SPEAKER_07: We just start a big 12 play.
- 22:47SPEAKER_07: But if you are looking ahead, uh this class is really nice.
- 22:52SPEAKER_07: Uh Pop Isaac's coming in, true point guard.
- 22:54SPEAKER_07: He's gonna be an instant starting minutes type of guy uh on this team.
- 23:00SPEAKER_07: Uh Robert Jennings, Lamar Washington, and then Jalen Tyson as well.
- 23:05SPEAKER_07: And still a couple guys potentially.
- 23:08SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're looking at getting uh Johan Troy uh from France.
- 23:13SPEAKER_07: He's a five-star big man, apparently.
- 23:15SPEAKER_07: We're in pretty good, uh, pretty good running for that guy.
- 23:18SPEAKER_07: It looks like it's between us and Memphis for him.
- 23:20SPEAKER_06: And they've done a bad job with the French connection.
- 23:23SPEAKER_07: No doubt, yeah, dude.
- 23:24SPEAKER_07: I mean, look at Bachel and those.
- 23:32SPEAKER_07: Um, and we had another guy come in uh who was in attendance for the Kansas game, and that was 2023 guard RJ Jones uh coming in.
- 23:40SPEAKER_07: He's looking at Texas Tech to potentially commit to.
- 23:43SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're in the running for a guy like KJ Lewis, he's in the 2023 class.
- 23:47SPEAKER_07: So Mark Adams is putting in work and and all of his assistants, Barrett Peary, Corey Williams, uh Talvin Hester, Sean Sutton, all those guys are are showing that it's not that difficult to recruit to Lovick.
- 24:00SPEAKER_07: You can get guys here.
- 24:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and and to name drop uh guns up nation, uh one of our guns up nation colleagues, Austin Massey.
- 24:08SPEAKER_06: If you listen to his recruiting stats here, Pop uh Jalen Tyson is number three all-time recruit for us off of the high school recruiting rankings, and pop Isaac is number seven.
- 24:17SPEAKER_06: And that was under Mark Adams, ladies and gentlemen.
- 24:21SPEAKER_06: So the recruiting's only trending in the right direction.
- 24:23SPEAKER_06: Um, and I can't believe people thought he wasn't gonna do well because he's old.
- 24:26SPEAKER_06: What a strange thing to just assume out of a coach.
- 24:29SPEAKER_06: He can't recruit young men because he's old.
- 24:31SPEAKER_06: Uh, just guys' experience, he knows how to connect with these guys because he's had years and years at all levels doing it, and he's just showing that it's it's just another day in the office, and he knows how to sell Lubbock, Texas.
- 24:41SPEAKER_06: And Lubbock, Texas is an amazing place.
- 24:43SPEAKER_06: So in Texas Tech is just one place to be.
- 24:45SPEAKER_06: So it's uh it's it's just great to see everything come together.
- 24:48SPEAKER_06: I mean, we have this season to be excited for, but man, it just this train is only gaining speed, it feels like that's just what it feels like, momentum-wise.
- 24:55SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah, and you know what would make this even better is if we get a win over, you know, the number one team in the nation right now, the Baylor Bears.
- 25:02SPEAKER_06: That wouldn't suck either.
- 25:04SPEAKER_06: I I and I I I I would make me sad to make good old show sad, but I'll I'll live with it.
- 25:10SPEAKER_07: It wouldn't make me too upset.
- 25:11SPEAKER_07: Um, I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 25:13SPEAKER_07: But uh, but yeah, let's uh let's go ahead and uh and trend over to that.
- 25:18SPEAKER_07: Uh our uh our quick preview with uh the Baylor Texas Tech game with our good buddy Joe Goodman.
- 25:24SPEAKER_07: We're gonna give that to you right now.
- 25:27SPEAKER_07: All right, we are here with our good buddy Joe Goodman.
- 25:31SPEAKER_07: He is the co-host of the Bear Den Pod.
- 25:33SPEAKER_07: He is a contributor to our daily bears, he is the sexiest man alive.
- 25:38SPEAKER_07: He is Joe Goodman.
- 25:39SPEAKER_07: Joe, what's up, man?
- 25:40SPEAKER_09: Dude, I am I am stoked to be back, but I would be lying if I was it didn't tell you I'm slightly distracted at the moment because a little sweet Dr.
- 25:48SPEAKER_09: Pepper commercial is on right now.
- 25:50SPEAKER_09: Oh no, those are good.
- 25:52SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's the sweet one big fan, big, big fan.
- 25:57SPEAKER_07: I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 25:58SPEAKER_07: I forgot the national championship was on today.
- 26:00SPEAKER_07: I like I went through my day, I woke up this morning and I was like, well, uh it cool, neat.
- 26:06SPEAKER_09: You mean you weren't thrilled with the prospect of a another Georgia versus Alabama game?
- 26:10SPEAKER_07: I you know, I wasn't, and it's just you know, it is what it is.
- 26:15SPEAKER_06: It's Nick Saban's inevitable.
- 26:17SPEAKER_06: He's just gonna go get what his is, you know, he is the king of the sport, and we all are at his mercy.
- 26:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's one of those things where I think uh a lot of the the chest pumping and complaining that goes on around college football right now and how it's like dying, it's actually just uh Nick Saban syndrome.
- 26:34SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's just people are tired of it, it's the same crap every year, and it's like okay, you know, like that's what makes even when like another SU, even when like LSU won, it was just different.
- 26:45SPEAKER_07: I mean, uh slightly, because you know, they're usually at the top there, but like it's just different.
- 26:50SPEAKER_07: I just Cincinnati was nice to see this year, but uh you know, it just ended up being kind of the same thing.
- 26:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I am I am wholeheartedly rooting for Alabama that way.
- 27:00SPEAKER_09: It's just like I'd much rather the status quo of annoying fans instead of adding a whole new group of them and Georgia fans.
- 27:05SPEAKER_06: So for sure, and you know, but Georgia wins, that kind of brings in the rest of the STC behind them, you know, because now the rest of the SEC is like, yo, you know how many teams are wanted now, you know, for this conference.
- 27:15SPEAKER_06: You know, Mississippi State fans will be like ring a dingle in, you know, with a bell of like SEC, SEC, and then the last who cares if we only scored seven points against a tech defense, yeah.
- 27:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah, exactly.
- 27:25SPEAKER_07: Hey man, that was this uh fantastic sunny cumby tech defense, as as you guys are known for, man, hard nose, just keeping keeping the other team from scoring.
- 27:35SPEAKER_07: Wear them out, that's our thing.
- 27:38SPEAKER_07: It doesn't usually work, but it worked that particular game.
- 27:43SPEAKER_07: But we're not here to talk about by the time the people are listening to this, they'll already know who won the national championship.
- 27:48SPEAKER_07: But we are here to talk about the more important sport, which is basketball.
- 27:52SPEAKER_07: Uh, Baylor and Texas Tech playing for the first time this season.
- 27:57SPEAKER_07: Uh Baylor currently number one in the nation, uh, 15-0.
- 28:02SPEAKER_07: Texas Tech now up to number 19 in the nation.
- 28:05SPEAKER_07: Um, great game, top 25 matchup.
- 28:08SPEAKER_07: These two teams always bring it against each other.
- 28:10SPEAKER_07: Um, this game is going to be on ESPN 2 at 6 p.m.
- 28:14SPEAKER_07: on Tuesday at the Farrell Center in Waco.
- 28:17SPEAKER_07: Joe, what tell me tell me about this Baylor team?
- 28:20SPEAKER_07: Tell me why are they so good again?
- 28:22SPEAKER_09: So, first off, did we get upgraded to ESPN two?
- 28:24SPEAKER_09: I thought we were, I thought like we did.
- 28:26SPEAKER_06: We got we got moved up in the world.
- 28:29SPEAKER_06: Praise our SEC overlords.
- 28:33SPEAKER_09: Mickey Mickey Mouse decided a uh a top 20 matchup was was good enough for them so that that we can actually be on TV, I guess.
- 28:40SPEAKER_09: No, man, it's been uh it's been a fun year.
- 28:44SPEAKER_09: Uh I I thought I thought after everything that we lost last year, going into this season, it was like, well, we're gonna be good, but we're not gonna be last year good.
- 28:53SPEAKER_09: I thought this was probably gonna be like a sweet 16, like get really excited, it will go back to the elite eight kind of team.
- 29:00SPEAKER_09: Um, but how do you replace you know, four guys like Mark Vital, Davion Mitchell, Jared Butler, and Macy OT?
- 29:08SPEAKER_09: You just don't do that.
- 29:10SPEAKER_09: Um, and when we got the news about James Akenjo transferring over from Arizona, that was that was a big deal.
- 29:16SPEAKER_09: That was big news, uh, you know, a big scoring kind of threat.
- 29:20SPEAKER_09: Okay, we're gonna bring Adam Flagler in, uh, who was our sixth man last year.
- 29:24SPEAKER_09: Let's bring him in off the bench as a starter, get LJ Cryer some more minutes.
- 29:28SPEAKER_09: He's a great shooter, one of the the leading scorers in the history of uh Houston area high school basketball.
- 29:34SPEAKER_09: So it's like, okay, this is gonna be a fun team, a cool team to watch, and we'll be pretty good.
- 29:38SPEAKER_09: But I don't think anybody could have expected what we've become uh with the additions of of those guys, plus the freshmen that we had come in and uh Kendall Brown and Jeremy Sohan, which are two of the the best recruits that that Scott Drew's ever brought in.
- 29:52SPEAKER_09: Um but the amazing thing to me has just been the plug and play aspect of it where it feels like everybody on this team has played together for a long time.
- 30:01SPEAKER_09: Um, akinjo being a new guy when he started the season off.
- 30:06SPEAKER_09: Uh, I to be honest with you, I was like, I wasn't a believer.
- 30:08SPEAKER_09: I was kind of like, this guy has maybe too high of a motor.
- 30:11SPEAKER_09: He comes from an Arizona squad where he had to do everything and he hasn't quite learned that he can pass the ball, and now he's leading the conference and assists.
- 30:19SPEAKER_09: Uh, so you know, the one thing that I don't think we're as consistent as as we were last year is on ball shutdown defense.
- 30:28SPEAKER_09: We don't have a Davion Mitchell.
- 30:30SPEAKER_09: So last year, a guy walks on the court that's your best player.
- 30:33SPEAKER_09: We can say, All right, Davion, go guard that guy, shut him down, annoy the hell out of him for 40 minutes.
- 30:38SPEAKER_09: We don't have that this year, but we we have done a very good job of switching everything, which is something that's got Drew's moved to ever since we left the zone behind.
- 30:48SPEAKER_09: Um, staying in passing lanes.
- 30:50SPEAKER_09: Uh, when we have either Flo Thamba or Jonathan Chamwal Chachua on the floor, we can do some rim protection there.
- 30:56SPEAKER_09: Um, but I do think our best lineup is probably when we're going small with four guards, something like that, maybe Kendall Brown at the five, um, staying super athletic and just being really, really pestery and annoying.
- 31:10SPEAKER_09: And somehow we found a way to continue winning games, not lose, play defense in games where it's a uh a mucky kind of defensive game, like we did against uh Villanova when we held them to 36 points.
- 31:23SPEAKER_09: Or um, we've had a couple games here recently where we've had some teams shoot the light at lights out, like um you know, TCU shot really, really well against us.
- 31:31SPEAKER_09: Oklahoma, man, and the first half of the game against that we played against them, they were shooting like 65% at halftime and were hitting all their threes, and they were still down by like eight points at the half.
- 31:41SPEAKER_09: Uh it's I I had a few tweets out there about it how it's got to be the most annoying thing in the world when you're doing everything that you want to do offensively and you're still getting your butt kicked.
- 31:52SPEAKER_09: Um, so yeah, it's it's a fun era of Baylor basketball to be in, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Mark Adams scares the hell out of me.
- 32:01SPEAKER_06: It's kind of it's kind of funny seeing, you know, he Baylor is just so dang good right now, but the kind of an issue is the the whole Big 12 is so dang good, you know.
- 32:10SPEAKER_06: This is by far the best conference in the country.
- 32:12SPEAKER_06: So even though Baylor is number one, man, do they have an entire battle all season long?
- 32:17SPEAKER_06: So it's it's truly it's truly inspiring to see them come back and just be number one again.
- 32:21SPEAKER_06: I can't imagine how he felt when he thought it was only gonna be a sweet 16 team.
- 32:25SPEAKER_06: Man, what a what a low point!
- 32:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, right.
- 32:29SPEAKER_09: You know, not all of us can be Texas football.
- 32:31SPEAKER_07: So that's true.
- 32:34SPEAKER_07: Um, what I find very interesting about this Baylor team, and and you already brought it up, but it is so different from last year's team.
- 32:41SPEAKER_07: I mean, Scott Drew still brings the mentality and the defensive toughness and everything like that, but the the guard play has just been absolutely outstanding, whether it's Akinjo just scoring a million points, whether it's Flaggler or Cryer even off the bench.
- 32:55SPEAKER_07: I mean, all three of these guys are absolute weapons on the offensive side of the floor.
- 33:00SPEAKER_07: What I think is going to be interesting to watch is you know, Texas Tech is probably gonna get Kevin McCullough back this game, and he's missed the last few uh out with an ankle injury.
- 33:09SPEAKER_07: But when we have McCullough in that lineup, we don't have a guy that's under six foot six out there starting.
- 33:15SPEAKER_07: And that's um when you play your small ball lineup, it's just gonna be a really interesting type of game.
- 33:22SPEAKER_07: Uh, I'm not sure how Baylor plans.
- 33:24SPEAKER_07: I I know they're a great shooting team, and that's usually good when you're going up against this Texas Tech defense, but just having that length from Texas Tech being in your face all the time.
- 33:34SPEAKER_07: I don't know if they've really faced that quite yet this year.
- 33:38SPEAKER_09: No, I don't think like the closest thing would be Villanova, who played amazing defense against us, and uh you know it's not like we scored a ton of points in that game either.
- 33:46SPEAKER_09: And they're huge, those those dudes are big.
- 33:49SPEAKER_09: I think tech is more athletic than Villanova is.
- 33:51SPEAKER_09: I think they use their size differently than Villanova does.
- 33:54SPEAKER_09: Um, but that's the kind of the only comparison that I could see.
- 33:58SPEAKER_09: I think Texas is kind of similar in that way, too, where they they've got a lot of really big guys who are super athletic and can play defense.
- 34:05SPEAKER_09: Um, and I that's kind of how I see you guys in Texas are very similar, which I know sucks.
- 34:11SPEAKER_09: Um but we're just we're just a better version of the tech.
- 34:16SPEAKER_09: You have the coach that actually knows how to set up the the defensive play.
- 34:20SPEAKER_09: All right, you can come back.
- 34:22SPEAKER_09: But but no, it's it's it's it's uh it's going to be very unique.
- 34:26SPEAKER_09: I think I I worry more about playing a team like tech than I do about playing a team like Kansas, who you guys just beat, because Kansas is just good, right?
- 34:36SPEAKER_09: Bill Self is gonna have his guys out there ready to play.
- 34:38SPEAKER_09: All of those guys are gonna be super highly recruited, extremely talented kids.
- 34:43SPEAKER_09: But a team like tech or a team like West Virginia, they give you just different problems in the way that they play you for 40 minutes that you don't experience against just a normal, really good team where tech is never going to give up.
- 34:56SPEAKER_09: It does you could be up by 20 in the first half on tech, and they're gonna act like they're up by 10 and they just want to kill you and bury you.
- 35:02SPEAKER_09: Um, and that's the attitude that y'all squad has.
- 35:04SPEAKER_09: And I I think that's why it's so scary is that you guys are so defense-oriented first, and you have that mindset of the points will come when they do, whether it's off of turnovers or you have a guy that gets hot, whatever it may be, you constantly stay focused on the defensive side of the ball.
- 35:20SPEAKER_09: And in in college, in college basketball, that's just that's an equalizer in my mind.
- 35:25SPEAKER_09: That's like a three, that's like having a great three-point shooter is having that effort and that scheme that you guys do on defense, just turning it into a dog fight.
- 35:32SPEAKER_09: It's scary.
- 35:34SPEAKER_06: That's a really cool way to put it.
- 35:35SPEAKER_06: You know, I I've never thought about it that way.
- 35:37SPEAKER_06: It's it's always interesting hearing an outside perspective outside perspective on your team, you know, you can kind of puts a fresh look on it.
- 35:44SPEAKER_06: I think that's a great way to put it.
- 35:45SPEAKER_06: Um, and that's it's it's that's a good thing to hear because it just kind of gives longevity to the to the to the team and to the season.
- 35:51SPEAKER_06: Um, and but I mean, just going up against a monster like number one Baylor, it's it's gonna be a real test for the defense.
- 35:58SPEAKER_06: But I mean, I'm glad that we do have what we have.
- 36:00SPEAKER_06: But man, in in Waco as well, I uh it's gonna be a lot of it's gonna be a lot of guys to stop and a lot of stopping to be had for us to pull it off.
- 36:08SPEAKER_09: So it's it's an interesting interesting matchup, and I I think you guys have an advantage too, because you didn't go play a bunch of cupcakes in your non-con either.
- 36:17SPEAKER_09: So, you know, y'all have three losses.
- 36:19SPEAKER_09: Providence probably should have been a win, and you know, Steven, you and I talked about that one on Twitter.
- 36:24SPEAKER_09: Uh, but that was that's an early season game where you're kind of learning who you are on the road, a true road game against a biggie squad that's pretty good.
- 36:31SPEAKER_09: Um, Gonzaga, nobody's gonna blame you for losing losing to Gonzaga, especially early in the game.
- 36:36SPEAKER_09: Without Terrence Shannon as well, we didn't have him that game, and uh right, yeah, and then you've got you've got Iowa State in Hilton with seven players, and you probably should have won that game too.
- 36:48SPEAKER_09: Like, so 11-3 Texas Tech isn't really 11 and 3 Texas Tech in my mind.
- 36:54SPEAKER_09: That's uh I look at you guys very much as like a 13 and one team that can step on the court and play anybody in the country, and you never want to see that.
- 37:02SPEAKER_09: I'm glad that we're going to be at home, but as Joey McGuire pointed out, and as I've seen many people point out so far on Twitter about the current prices at the Farrell Center, it may be almost a home game for you guys in this one.
- 37:13SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I mean, we we do show up.
- 37:15SPEAKER_07: Our crowd shows up pretty much anywhere for for a Big 12 game, and you know, for one that's central Texas, you know, we'll we'll have a good amount of people there.
- 37:23SPEAKER_07: Uh, and that's not a knock on Baylor, obviously.
- 37:26SPEAKER_07: You know, y'all y'all have a solid.
- 37:27SPEAKER_09: Oh, you could you can knock us for it.
- 37:28SPEAKER_07: It's fine, you know.
- 37:30SPEAKER_07: I'm I'm keeping it light, I'm keeping it lighthearted right now.
- 37:32SPEAKER_07: But um, no, I I just like I think you're right with everything about our schedule and and but outside of those three non-conference opponents, we didn't really play much, and I think that didn't really prepare us for those providence and uh uh Gonzaga games very well.
- 37:50SPEAKER_07: And and now that we've got a few of these games under our belt, we're kind of figuring it out slowly but surely, even with kind of a depleted roster that we've had since the start of Big 12 play.
- 38:00SPEAKER_09: Um, the thing did you guys did you guys figure it out recently, maybe?
- 38:05SPEAKER_07: We we figured it out pretty recently, I'll say, against uh against the number six Jayhawks.
- 38:10SPEAKER_07: Pretty big win there.
- 38:11SPEAKER_07: Um, but now that Kevin McCullough will most likely be back for this Baylor game, it helps us.
- 38:18SPEAKER_07: Uh, I think it actually helps us in the long run, thinking about it, with missing Terrence Shannon and Kevin McCullough for these big games, that these bench players are coming in now, Clarence Nadolmies of the world, the Adonis Arms of the world, the Bryson Williams is finally stepping up and being the guy we thought he would be.
- 38:37SPEAKER_07: Uh, it's giving those guys confidence, you know, because Shannon and McCullough are going to bring it every night, no matter what.
- 38:43SPEAKER_07: But it's the bench pieces that we were unsure about.
- 38:46SPEAKER_07: And now going up against a really deep team, a deep seven to eight man rotation from Baylor.
- 38:52SPEAKER_07: Mad decent.
- 38:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah, mad decent, I'd say, and very versatile.
- 38:56SPEAKER_07: The the thing about Baylor is they can go big, they can go small, they can go wing heavy.
- 39:01SPEAKER_07: They have all these different pieces that are really fantastic.
- 39:05SPEAKER_07: Uh, and it's just gonna be it's gonna be a really fun game.
- 39:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, what's it like having these these great guards?
- 39:10SPEAKER_06: We this is uh a mystery to us right now.
- 39:13SPEAKER_06: We we don't we don't understand what that means.
- 39:15SPEAKER_09: It's it's it's mind-boggling, is what it is.
- 39:18SPEAKER_09: It you know, I right when I got out of college, I uh I worked with a buddy who wrote for a very like a small paper covering high school teams, and I would go with him and take pictures and stuff, and I would run into these these high school teams that had just really, really good basketball teams with great defenses, but they just couldn't score if their life depended on it.
- 39:38SPEAKER_09: And it it reminds me of a lot of college teams that are out there of you know, you have you have five guys that can make layups, they can hit a three here and there, but you don't really have any guys that you're just like, I'm gonna get you the ball and I know it's gonna go in.
- 39:49SPEAKER_09: And we've got three or four on the team that are like that right now, coming off of what we had last year.
- 39:56SPEAKER_09: Um you know, one of the one of the great things that I think is overlooked about the last two years of Baylor squad, maybe even three, if you include the the year, uh the COVID year where things got canceled, is we can hit the mid-range with anybody, you know.
- 40:09SPEAKER_09: Like if you want to, if you come out and you attack us hard on the three-point line, you're like, I'm not going to let James Akinjo shoot a three, he can either drive the basket or he can get to the elbow and just pop it every single time.
- 40:19SPEAKER_09: Flagler, I don't think I've ever seen miss a mid-range jumper.
- 40:23SPEAKER_09: So it's one of those things where you'll see when when tech goes on a run, and they will like you guys will go on a 10-0 run on us at some point in the game.
- 40:32SPEAKER_09: Scott Drew's gonna call a timeout, and I would bet you we're either gonna have some kind of inbounds play that's an alley oop, or it's going to be a guy hitting a mid-range jumper because we just don't miss those.
- 40:40SPEAKER_09: And those are kind of our okay, we're back in this.
- 40:44SPEAKER_09: We've seen the ball go in the hoop.
- 40:46SPEAKER_09: Um, so I've I've actually wondered if uh we'll start seeing that more and more as we hit these um defensive buzzsaws that exist in this conference.
- 40:55SPEAKER_09: If we start seeing maybe a little bit more of the mid-range game to um slow down the the attack that guys will have coming out to the three-point line on us, um, but yeah, to answer your question, having guards is great, you should try it.
- 41:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah, man.
- 41:10SPEAKER_07: I uh you know, I'm I'm proud of how we've kind of functioned without a true point guard this season.
- 41:16SPEAKER_07: Uh Clarence Sedolny has helped that a ton, uh, at least these last two games.
- 41:20SPEAKER_07: And then, you know, Kevin McCullough's kind of coming into his own.
- 41:23SPEAKER_07: But I think the real key to this game is who's gonna win the rebounding battle.
- 41:28SPEAKER_07: I think that's the who's gonna who's gonna win wins the rebounding battle.
- 41:32SPEAKER_07: We've seen that in almost every big Baylor win this season, they win the rebounding battle.
- 41:37SPEAKER_07: Every big tech win this season, we've won the rebounding battle.
- 41:41SPEAKER_07: So down low, guys like Chama Chachua or uh uh Thamba, those guys working hard down low because you know O'Banner's gonna bring it, you know Bryson Williams has started to bring in more.
- 41:52SPEAKER_07: San O Silva is a truck down there.
- 41:55SPEAKER_07: Bachos kind of come into his own.
- 41:57SPEAKER_07: Getting second chance opportunities from these offensive rebounds, we've kind of made our living of that in these big wins this season.
- 42:04SPEAKER_07: So I think down low is gonna be huge uh for both teams.
- 42:10SPEAKER_09: I think I think that's a uh that's that's a big thing for y'all because if there is like if I could call it a weakness, it's probably defensive rebounding on our end.
- 42:20SPEAKER_09: We're really good offensive rebounding team.
- 42:22SPEAKER_09: Like we'll go, we'll go and try to get second chance points.
- 42:24SPEAKER_09: That's always been a Scott Drew staple of getting second chance points, but there have been a lot of second chance opportunities in the uh the three conference games that we played so far: Iowa State, Oklahoma, and TCU have all gotten a ton of second chance opportunities.
- 42:40SPEAKER_09: Um, and then you know, you look at what Jamie Dixon did defensively on us, and I think a little bit of us was us being on the road and being a little laxadaisical, but we turned the ball over a ton against TCU.
- 42:51SPEAKER_09: Um, and that's something we cannot do against the Red Raiders.
- 42:55SPEAKER_09: If if you guys start forcing turnovers left and right, you don't have to run an offense, you're just gonna be going on fast breaks and scoring.
- 43:00SPEAKER_09: Um, and you have the ability to force those turnovers.
- 43:03SPEAKER_09: So, you know, if there's a key to the game for tech winning this and and finally ending the Baylor winning streak, it's going to be on the offensive boards and forcing turnovers for sure.
- 43:15SPEAKER_09: The other the the downside for y'all though is like you mentioned you you know, you're kind of missing that guard play.
- 43:20SPEAKER_09: Like, you know, arms is leading you and assists and the averages like two a game.
- 43:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, so not a whole lot of like great ball movement that's gonna that's gonna be scoring things, but um, you know, if you can get the ISO in the right area, I guess that might help.
- 43:35SPEAKER_09: Uh like I said, Davion Mitchell's not on the floor, so you might be able to score on a flag.
- 43:39SPEAKER_07: Yeah, we've we really struggled against the zone.
- 43:41SPEAKER_07: Uh as soon as teams have busted that out, it we look like a third grade basketball team who's never who can figure it out.
- 43:48SPEAKER_07: Um, but you know, against Kansas, we kind of got it a little bit, uh, especially with moving that ball to Davion Warren, just attacking the rim, getting that ball in the middle there.
- 43:58SPEAKER_07: We finally figured it out for a few plays.
- 44:00SPEAKER_07: So hopefully that holds true against Baylor because I know Scott Drew is gonna pull out a zone here at the wrong time when we don't want to see it because that's never.
- 44:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean it's it's been the repeat theme here.
- 44:12SPEAKER_06: You know, we're not exactly a big shooting team, it's definitely what we what we beat in Kansas was beating them in the paint.
- 44:18SPEAKER_06: So I'm wondering if that's perhaps is where we have to dominate the game against Baylor, is down there in the post.
- 44:23SPEAKER_06: But uh, I mean, it's it would just be nice to have someone that to toss back to and hit from range, but you know, it's just like we already discussed, we don't have any of those right now.
- 44:33SPEAKER_06: But um, definitely definitely something to probably look forward to.
- 44:36SPEAKER_09: Just start moving your bigs out past the line, just just have them take a thousand threes after practice every day.
- 44:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:42SPEAKER_07: You know, if if O'Banner knocked down his threes like we were promised, then maybe.
- 44:46SPEAKER_07: But uh, and Bryson Williams is knocking down a few.
- 44:49SPEAKER_07: McCullough's shot looks much better than what it has been.
- 44:52SPEAKER_07: Uh, and we're just a different team on the floor when Shannon's on the floor.
- 44:55SPEAKER_07: But unfortunately, I think he's gonna miss this game, which you know stinks because he's NBA guy, he's gonna be in the NBA next season.
- 45:02SPEAKER_07: So uh, you know, you can use all the pieces you can, but um man, this this Baylor game is gonna be fun.
- 45:07SPEAKER_07: Scott Drew, obviously, uh an extremely good head coach, y'all are the defending champs.
- 45:12SPEAKER_07: So, you know, you got to give the praise to that.
- 45:14SPEAKER_07: But uh I I think it's gonna be fun and I think it's gonna be tight.
- 45:18SPEAKER_09: I agree.
- 45:19SPEAKER_09: I I you know, I think I think I saw somebody had a line as big as like 12 points in this one.
- 45:25SPEAKER_09: Wow.
- 45:25SPEAKER_09: Um, I absolutely don't agree with that.
- 45:27SPEAKER_09: If if you can find something that hide like hammer Texas tech on that all day long, yeah, yeah.
- 45:32SPEAKER_09: And I would say 100 I'm taking the under if I'm if I'm a betting man in this game.
- 45:37SPEAKER_09: I think this is a game where both teams probably score in the 50s.
- 45:40SPEAKER_09: I I think this this is probably going to be like I I don't know, this is gonna be under a hundred and a hundred under 120 points for sure in my book.
- 45:49SPEAKER_06: No doubt.
- 45:49SPEAKER_06: So I guess uh I'm sure we'll all be glued to this tomorrow night.
- 45:52SPEAKER_06: I'm sure the Twitter um replies will be going back and forth the whole time.
- 45:57SPEAKER_06: Um, so uh I I don't know if we have much more to say on that.
- 46:00SPEAKER_06: Any any recapping thoughts on that?
- 46:02SPEAKER_06: I I just have a couple other bailerisms I gotta ask you about before we let you go, of course.
- 46:07SPEAKER_09: Well, what one thing is congratulations on your new commitment.
- 46:11SPEAKER_06: Oh, thank you.
- 46:12SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 46:13SPEAKER_09: A loss for Texas is a win for us all, isn't it?
- 46:15SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 46:17SPEAKER_07: A guy who should have been here all along, so you know he committed to us in the first place.
- 46:21SPEAKER_07: And better late than never.
- 46:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 46:24SPEAKER_07: Forgive him.
- 46:25SPEAKER_09: He's I wasn't born at I you know, he can say I wasn't born at Texas Tech, but I got there as fast as I could.
- 46:31SPEAKER_06: Yes, I wasn't born on the campus of a university, you know.
- 46:37SPEAKER_06: All right, Tracy, what you got?
- 46:38SPEAKER_06: All right, Joe.
- 46:39SPEAKER_06: So, man, I I guess you'll also had a pretty decent football season.
- 46:42SPEAKER_06: I mean, Steven is wearing, I don't know.
- 46:44SPEAKER_06: This is this is a podcast format, so I know everybody can see Liberty Bowl champs the only thing that matters, and Joe graced his presence in New Orleans amongst the people.
- 46:54SPEAKER_06: How was that game?
- 46:55SPEAKER_06: And I saw you met up with a lot of other great Baylor people on Twitter.
- 46:58SPEAKER_06: Uh, was it a fun time?
- 46:59SPEAKER_09: Dude, it was a blast.
- 47:01SPEAKER_09: I I didn't spend a ton of time in New Orleans.
- 47:03SPEAKER_09: I I did the full experience in 2019 when we went there and got crushed by Georgia.
- 47:07SPEAKER_09: Um, better circumstances now.
- 47:09SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 47:09SPEAKER_09: Better circumstances this time.
- 47:11SPEAKER_09: Uh, I got in there, I got in there the afternoon in the game, got to watch the the Iowa State Baylor game that happened that morning, which was really cool getting two top wins, top 10 wins in the same day.
- 47:20SPEAKER_09: But so I got really lucky.
- 47:23SPEAKER_09: Uh, so I had gone to the conference championship game against Oklahoma State in Dallas, and I told my wife, I was like, okay, instead of trying to go to whatever bowl game we make it to, I'm gonna go to the conference championship game because I didn't go to that in 2019, and I thought win or lose, we're going to the sugar bowl.
- 47:41SPEAKER_09: I've already been to the sugar bowl, I won't want to go again.
- 47:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, well, that lasted about five minutes after we won the conference title.
- 47:46SPEAKER_09: I was like, well, I kind of want to go to the bowl game now.
- 47:49SPEAKER_09: Uh so my wife gave me like this like, okay, you can go, but and there was like a list of like a check check boxes I had to hit.
- 47:58SPEAKER_09: So it was, you know, I have an eight-month-old baby, so it was she, you know, I had to guarantee that she had help for the day that I was gone for that.
- 48:05SPEAKER_09: So my mother-in-law, I got I got her to come over.
- 48:08SPEAKER_09: Um, and I had to have I had to have somebody drive with me.
- 48:13SPEAKER_09: So my buddy, one of my best friends in the world that lives in Atlanta, actually flew to Houston and then we went to the game together.
- 48:21SPEAKER_09: And then he ties into the third point.
- 48:22SPEAKER_09: And the third point was I had to find quote unquote affordable tickets, which essentially meant I had to pay less than I did for the conference title game.
- 48:30SPEAKER_09: So my buddy in Atlanta actually works in the sports and events space, and I said, Hey, I'm looking for cheap tickets.
- 48:36SPEAKER_09: Let me know if if you can find anything.
- 48:38SPEAKER_09: So he he said, Well, let me email email a couple of people and see what I can get.
- 48:42SPEAKER_09: It took him about 10 minutes, and he got an offer of two two tickets in a suite at the superdome.
- 48:48SPEAKER_09: So oh, you know, yeah, you know, just that.
- 48:51SPEAKER_09: So I ended up free food, free booze, uh, and a suite at the superdome for the sugar bowl.
- 48:56SPEAKER_09: That sucks.
- 48:57SPEAKER_09: With uh sorry, you had to bum it.
- 48:59SPEAKER_09: And either the worst or for me, maybe the best part was we were the only Baylor fans in there.
- 49:04SPEAKER_09: It was us, it was a box full of old Miss fans.
- 49:07SPEAKER_04: That's awkward, all right.
- 49:08SPEAKER_04: That I mean, obviously, I'm there for the free food and booze, but to be in there with stranger uh old miss fans, that I bet that was quite the experience.
- 49:17SPEAKER_09: So the uh we got in there and we were kind of like laying low.
- 49:21SPEAKER_09: I was in the like, you know, it you have like your little suite room where the food is, and there's TVs, and then there's kind of like a bar with um stool seating that overlooks the actual seats.
- 49:32SPEAKER_09: So we were actually sitting on those stools behind everybody that were in the actual seats out in front of the suite, and I don't think they had turned around to notice a Baylor fan was sitting behind them.
- 49:42SPEAKER_09: In the first play of the game, we we had like a one-yard tackle for loss, and I just as I do often, I yelled, sit down, and uh and about I just saw 15 heads immediately turn around and look at me like oh god, this one's in here.
- 50:00SPEAKER_07: That's great, dude.
- 50:01SPEAKER_07: That is that's awesome.
- 50:03SPEAKER_07: I I like being with the opposing team fans.
- 50:06SPEAKER_07: Now I will be more you know relaxed and take it easy when I know that I'm outmatched and outmanned in terms of fans, but respect to you for not laying down and say whatever you please when you're with sit down, yeah.
- 50:22SPEAKER_07: Say sit down.
- 50:23SPEAKER_07: Who cares?
- 50:24SPEAKER_09: I'm really good at like just pushing, just pushing the button, but not like hammering the button, you know.
- 50:30SPEAKER_07: Like I'll keep myself it's a line that you have to keep before you get kicked out of the suite.
- 50:35SPEAKER_09: And like when Matt Corral got hurt, for example, I was like, I was like, Oh, get up.
- 50:39SPEAKER_09: I was with him.
- 50:39SPEAKER_09: I was like, I hope Matt Corral gets up, and then in the back of the I was like, Man, I'm kind of glad Matt Corral's not that's awesome, dude.
- 50:47SPEAKER_07: Um, yeah, I was actually at that uh sugar bowl game against Georgia.
- 50:51SPEAKER_07: The Baylor, I was working for a uh tailgate tour at that time, so I got to I got to actually go to that game and it was pretty cool.
- 50:57SPEAKER_07: But um, yeah, I I mean Baylor had a kick-ass season, they really did.
- 51:01SPEAKER_07: They, I mean, they outshined all expectations, kind of like what they're doing in basketball.
- 51:06SPEAKER_07: I hate how good y'all are in everything these days.
- 51:09SPEAKER_07: I want baseball season.
- 51:10SPEAKER_07: What the hell?
- 51:11SPEAKER_07: Yeah, let baseball season come out.
- 51:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah, baseball coming around, Joe.
- 51:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we won't be we won't be great in baseball, and and our women's basketball team looks like it's just like really good instead of you know, yeah, it's just incredible.
- 51:28SPEAKER_09: And I I would be, I would I I have to also plug that we have won six straight national championships in acrobatics and tumbling.
- 51:34SPEAKER_07: Okay, well, we've won like 20 straight meat judging chapters, yeah.
- 51:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you guys are the meat kings.
- 51:40SPEAKER_06: That's what you're coming.
- 51:41SPEAKER_06: You want to talk about look judging some meat?
- 51:43SPEAKER_06: We'll look at the meat and we know what's going on with the meat.
- 51:44SPEAKER_06: You know what's good between what's happening with that meat.
- 51:46SPEAKER_07: We know what's good meat and what's not good meat.
- 51:49SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so y'all gonna have the acrobatics.
- 51:51SPEAKER_09: Did either of you take take take the meat judging class?
- 51:54SPEAKER_09: Of course.
- 51:54SPEAKER_09: Of course not.
- 51:55SPEAKER_04: You think either of us have purpose to recognize stellar meat?
- 52:00SPEAKER_09: I know I've heard that was I've heard that at AM, especially that's a common one that like people go in thinking it's gonna be a blow-off class, and it turns out to be one of the hardest classes you can take.
- 52:09SPEAKER_04: I why would you go to ag schools and think these ag classes are gonna be easy?
- 52:14SPEAKER_04: What kind of mindset is that?
- 52:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah, no, I remember I remember one class specifically at tech that was like incredibly difficult that everybody thought was a blow off was like history of rock and roll.
- 52:25SPEAKER_07: That was like an elective that a lot of people took because it's like, okay, cool, rock and roll, you know, I'll get the art credit out of the way, whatever.
- 52:32SPEAKER_07: And everybody struggled because we had this hardcore professor who just wanted to get into every intricate detail of rock and roll and the history of it.
- 52:40SPEAKER_07: And uh, yeah, that I didn't take that because I heard the I heard the warnings.
- 52:46SPEAKER_09: That was my golf class.
- 52:48SPEAKER_09: I took I took golf, I took golf as a blow-off class, and I ended up getting a professor that was like super into it, and like how good how how you progressed in your game was heavily weighted in your score, and his exams were really hard, but he was a really cool professor, so I actually took him for golf too.
- 53:03SPEAKER_06: So well, I mean was was it was the extra credit how many miclobes you could put back while you're at said course was like a per miclobe point system.
- 53:11SPEAKER_09: Weirdly enough, no, not a single micelobe question, which I thought was a huge oversight and might cause our school to lose its accreditation.
- 53:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she's you you'd think you'd think a private school wouldn't overlook something like that, you know.
- 53:22SPEAKER_06: Like you'd think they would they would put all that all that extra tuition into that thought process.
- 53:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah, no mention of miclobe, uh no mention of making sure you bring cash so that you can tip the cart people, like nothing like that.
- 53:33SPEAKER_04: This is ridiculous.
- 53:34SPEAKER_07: This is the stuff you need to know when you're golfing.
- 53:37SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous, but but that was good, Joe.
- 53:43SPEAKER_07: Good luck uh on Tuesday.
- 53:45SPEAKER_07: I hope your team loses.
- 53:46SPEAKER_07: I'm extremely excited for this matchup.
- 53:48SPEAKER_07: I think it's gonna be a really good one.
- 53:50SPEAKER_07: Um, but on the talking tech pod every single week, we give a song of the week and we waited just for you for this segment, and you brought a great one last time.
- 54:00SPEAKER_07: You brought a classic uh Eiffel what Eiffel 65.
- 54:05SPEAKER_07: Um I'm blue, da ba da da da.
- 54:09SPEAKER_07: Great, great jam.
- 54:11SPEAKER_07: What is this week's song of the week from you?
- 54:14SPEAKER_09: So so last time I went for kind of like the fun meme kind of song.
- 54:19SPEAKER_09: This time I'm gonna go more of Tristan's vibe, and it's it's the end of football season, right?
- 54:26SPEAKER_09: We're recording this on Tuesday night, the national championship going on in the background, which means football, the the good form of football is over for like 200 days.
- 54:35SPEAKER_09: So our Saturdays unfortunately are free, but that means we might need to go out and party a little bit now.
- 54:41SPEAKER_09: So, my song of the week this week is$50 in a flask of crown by Blue Edmondson.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: You don't mind your manners, you don't mind a fight.
- 54:57SPEAKER_03: We're in the mood to rock and roll around.
- 55:06SPEAKER_04: Oh man, what a throwback! Let's go.
- 55:10SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 55:10SPEAKER_04: Some some local regional stuff, man.
- 55:13SPEAKER_04: Dig it.
- 55:14SPEAKER_07: Yes, you knew that was gonna hype up, Tristan.
- 55:17SPEAKER_07: Uh, Tristan, apparently, prepod.
- 55:20SPEAKER_07: You told me you had a pretty good song of the week coming.
- 55:22SPEAKER_07: So you know, build on top of that, my guess.
- 55:24SPEAKER_06: I mean, I I'm crossing the Red River for this one, but obviously, you know, it's it's we all kind of mingle in that regional sort of vibe.
- 55:29SPEAKER_06: It's it's gonna be the damn quails, yes, fool's gold.
- 55:36SPEAKER_04: You know, I can't believe we haven't done it yet.
- 55:38SPEAKER_04: But the foo's gold by the damn quails.
- 55:42SPEAKER_04: Baylor's gonna be looking for foo's gold name, but find it tomorrow.
- 55:46SPEAKER_04: Let's go.
- 55:47SPEAKER_03: For a foo's gold, a beggar's bargain.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: It's too much time, space to get lost in a swamp on the road.
- 55:57SPEAKER_03: Two if you can let it go.
- 56:01SPEAKER_09: I did love on the video here that the moment you said it, uh Steven got so excited and he reached his hands above his head, and I could just see I could see champions in the Texas Tech logo on my car.
- 56:12SPEAKER_07: Liberty Bolt Champs, baby.
- 56:14SPEAKER_07: 2020.
- 56:15SPEAKER_07: Uh no, this is a great song.
- 56:17SPEAKER_07: Um Joe, we this song goes way back between our friend group.
- 56:22SPEAKER_07: Uh, it's just it's just a classic.
- 56:24SPEAKER_07: Uh if you haven't heard of it, which I'm sure most people haven't, uh, of a band called The Damn Quails, first off.
- 56:31SPEAKER_07: Uh, that's a great choice.
- 56:32SPEAKER_07: Uh, Tristan, that's fantastic.
- 56:34SPEAKER_07: Um, my song, you know, my song's a jam, I'm not gonna lie, but I don't know if it's gonna live up to y'all's expectations, but I'm gonna try my best here.
- 56:42SPEAKER_07: Uh, my song of the week is uh Won't Go Home Without You, Maroon Five, a classic, a throwback.
- 56:49SPEAKER_07: It's just, I mean, you talk about Maroon Five, it's it's their first album, and then this song, and then the rest of it gets a little too poppy.
- 56:57SPEAKER_07: But this song, Won't Go Home Without You, is just such a classic smooth jam.
- 57:03SPEAKER_07: Everybody loves it, everybody can jam to it.
- 57:05SPEAKER_07: That's my song of the week.
- 57:16SPEAKER_08: I'm in a minute.
- 57:19unknown: I'll go without you.
- 57:23SPEAKER_09: And and that's totally because when the inevitable next round of realignment happens, that's your love song to Baylor saying that when the Pac-12 calls for you to come home, you're not gonna go without us.
- 57:34SPEAKER_04: I think it's gonna be the Pac-12 calling us up, man.
- 57:37SPEAKER_04: Uh with the with the state they're in.
- 57:39SPEAKER_06: My god, dude.
- 57:40SPEAKER_06: I would way rather be in the Big 12 100%.
- 57:44SPEAKER_07: No, exactly.
- 57:45SPEAKER_07: When all that realignment stuff was going, we said we're gonna stay with our Texas brethren, uh, in Baylor and TCU.
- 57:51SPEAKER_07: We're gonna keep this conference going.
- 57:53SPEAKER_07: We're not gonna go home without we're gonna do it the right way.
- 57:56SPEAKER_09: The SEC can try to kill us all they want, but as long as they leave us around with Texas recruits, it doesn't matter if they take the five stars, we're still gonna kick people's asses.
- 58:03SPEAKER_04: We are a cockroach in the inevitable apocalypse.
- 58:06SPEAKER_06: Step on us all you want.
- 58:09SPEAKER_07: We're coming back.

- 1:00:22SPEAKER_06: Like it doesn't suck going from an L to a W to talk about on an episode.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_06: You know, we we we prefer discussing games that we win.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_06: That's just it's how it is.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_06: I it might be biased, it might maybe maybe make us unprofessional, but it's that's just the way it goes.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_07: And I'm sure you guys like listening after games we win versus games we just came all the lost from.
