- 0:59i got a comment on our youtube video
- 1:01the other day from helson abernas mr
- 1:04helson he said he was listening to our
- 1:07show with earbuds in at the grocery store
- 1:10and when the theme song came on he
- 1:12found himself dancing down the aisle
- 1:14throwing stuff in the basket just come on
- 1:18grab some pasta put it in a basket
- 1:22yeah hundred percent i don't know why you
- 1:23wouldn't i love that our theme song is
- 1:27that catchy
- 1:28i want to know does he did he
- 1:30think like he find that odd like he
- 1:32that wasn't going to happen was it the
- 1:33first time he had ever heard it because
- 1:35like i well you and i and vicky
- 1:38all are all just sitting here just bobbing
- 1:39and weaving while it's going on waiting
- 1:41for it to finish up so i mean
- 1:43that's a thing yeah yeah but hey taking
- 1:47it dancing at the grocery store is like
- 1:50a step yeah step up yeah definitely
- 1:58Judy Reed and Vicki and I keep doing
- 2:02that again.
- 2:04I'm not used to having help, guys.
- 2:05I'm not used to having help.
- 2:08Judy Reed, like that color on your shirt,
- 2:09Corey.
- 2:11Remember, everyone deployed.
- 2:12It has absolutely nothing to do with Ohio.
- 2:14Yeah.
- 2:17I was just going to say it's a
- 2:19nice salmon color.
- 2:21It's technically red.
- 2:22It's just really terrible lighting in here
- 2:24in my closet.
- 2:26Heel, yeah.
- 2:27Yeah, heel, yeah.
- 2:30You know what color shirt's really cool?
- 2:32This color.
- 2:33Look at that.
- 2:35Yep,
- 2:36shipped out I think twelve shirts last
- 2:39night.
- 2:40That's a mighty big stack of bags you
- 2:42had on that post.
- 2:44If you had ordered your shirts prior to
- 2:50Seven p.m.
- 2:50Eastern time last night.
- 2:53Your shirts are in the mail.
- 2:55They're already there.
- 2:56They're gone.
- 2:57Off.
- 2:58Whoosh.
- 3:00We're talking about a U.S.
- 3:01Postal Service.
- 3:02Probably not whoosh.
- 3:02It's probably more like a whoosh.
- 3:05It's probably more like, yeah, come on,
- 3:07boy.
- 3:09Pony Express.
- 3:10Mm-hmm.
- 3:13Vicki so kindly put up the picture of
- 3:16the shirt and the Venmo and the cash
- 3:21app QR codes thirty two dollars with
- 3:26shipping that includes shipping and
- 3:27handling and that is if you're in the
- 3:30United States to all fifty states we've
- 3:36already hit ten states ten out of fifty
- 3:39and look Meg says she just ordered last
- 3:41night
- 3:42That means I've got the District of
- 3:44Columbia,
- 3:44so that'll be eleven out of fifty-one.
- 3:48Need to go into New York?
- 3:52Not yet.
- 3:54I need to go bug Garrett and Colleen.
- 4:03Yeah, put name, size,
- 4:04and address in the memo, please.
- 4:07Thank you.
- 4:09Mike DeVito,
- 4:10who I think is getting a shirt right
- 4:11now.
- 4:12Hey, well, not right now.
- 4:15It's in the whoosh mail.
- 4:16Probably not right this second.
- 4:19Soon.
- 4:20Hey,
- 4:20my mom's parents retired from the USPS,
- 4:23and yes,
- 4:24they will confirm the dumpster fire.
- 4:26There you go.
- 4:28Bananas crazy.
- 4:34That's an interesting comment,
- 4:35Mark Phillips.
- 4:37Do we think Ms.
- 4:38Voigt-Miller listened to the show?
- 4:40So she is a subscriber to this channel.
- 4:43She has commented in the chat and she
- 4:46has commented on videos.
- 4:50So there is a chance that Becca
- 4:52Voigt-Miller listens to the show.
- 4:55And I do like the fact that she
- 4:57put out that post yesterday.
- 4:59That's amazing.
- 5:00Good on her.
- 5:01If she's listening right now, kudos.
- 5:03Awesome.
- 5:04Thank you.
- 5:05Thank you, thank you, thank you,
- 5:07thank you.
- 5:09And if you don't know what I'm talking
- 5:10about,
- 5:10she put out a post yesterday on Instagram
- 5:12saying,
- 5:13if you're a Masters athlete and you have
- 5:15concerns or feedback as to how the Masters
- 5:18CrossFit Games went,
- 5:20please send them to her so she can
- 5:22address it on the CAC.
- 5:25I am super curious as to how many
- 5:29she got inundated with.
- 5:32Like how, how many, like, you know,
- 5:34she opened up her email this morning and
- 5:36there was eighty seven messages in there
- 5:37because it wouldn't be hard to do.
- 5:40I think you're underestimating the number
- 5:42of messages she's getting.
- 5:47Oh, I sent several people.
- 5:49I don't think she knows what she opened
- 5:51herself up to.
- 5:52I don't think she understands a can of
- 5:53worms that she just uncovered.
- 5:55No, not at all.
- 5:56Not at all.
- 5:59Maybe she does know.
- 5:59Maybe she does know and is like, okay,
- 6:02let me gather all these things in one
- 6:03place so I can bring them to the
- 6:05next CAC meeting and be like, hey, look,
- 6:09here's a hundred emails from a hundred
- 6:11different Masters Games athletes.
- 6:14And they're all saying three things,
- 6:16whatever.
- 6:17It's pretty strong evidence at that point,
- 6:20right?
- 6:23Um,
- 6:23can I just say Becca Voigt Miller is
- 6:24one of my favorite people in the world.
- 6:26I say that a lot, but yeah,
- 6:28she was my,
- 6:28she was one of my analysts when I
- 6:30was with the morning chalk up.
- 6:31Yeah.
- 6:32Um,
- 6:32she used to do the bottom line with
- 6:34me and, uh,
- 6:36because she was at the time,
- 6:40even though she made semifinals and she
- 6:42competed at semifinals,
- 6:43she was truly a master's athlete at that
- 6:44point.
- 6:45Yeah.
- 6:45And so she was giving analysis on the
- 6:49workouts and all of that stuff.
- 6:50She was awesome.
- 6:53She's fit, dude.
- 6:56And she's cooling the flip side of the
- 6:59pillow.
- 7:03Okay, probably dumb,
- 7:04but I still think when people say the
- 7:06CAC, it's still funny.
- 7:07Like,
- 7:08what was the focus group like when they
- 7:09settled on that?
- 7:12I don't think they had a focus group.
- 7:13I think they were just like,
- 7:13what are we going to call this?
- 7:14I said, well, it's an athlete council.
- 7:16Okay.
- 7:16So this is a CrossFit athlete council.
- 7:17Yeah.
- 7:18So the CAC.
- 7:19Yeah.
- 7:19Cool.
- 7:20And they probably never took it into their
- 7:22brain that people were just going to start
- 7:24calling it the CAC.
- 7:26Right.
- 7:26That was probably not ever an option that
- 7:29somebody just like, oh,
- 7:30maybe they just called it the CAC.
- 7:31Nope.
- 7:33But we like acronyms.
- 7:36Yeah.
- 7:37I work for government.
- 7:37So everything gets turned into an acronym.
- 7:41Yeah.
- 7:42then everybody pronounces it so yeah
- 7:45anyway it is what it is it's never
- 7:49not going to be funny true uh corey
- 7:51i still do not know how you finished
- 7:52at monster games did you beat gleich
- 7:55nobody beat john um cows and crossfit said
- 8:01uh he meant he would that corey was
- 8:06only counting the dms from jamie those
- 8:08were the first that's a fact
- 8:13Oh, again, like I said yesterday,
- 8:18all she said was what everybody in the
- 8:20Masters at age group has been thinking for
- 8:22quite some time.
- 8:23She just happened to get it all out
- 8:24in public.
- 8:25Good.
- 8:26And all out in like, fifteen minutes.
- 8:29All the stuff came out all at once.
- 8:33Good, dude.
- 8:35It needs to be said,
- 8:36and it needs to be said on a
- 8:38public forum.
- 8:39It can't just keep being said between the
- 8:41Masters athletes themselves who just talk
- 8:44about it and are,
- 8:45I don't want to say scared,
- 8:48but otherwise may not necessarily have a
- 8:51voice or a platform to be able to
- 8:53get it out there so that maybe something
- 8:55can actually be done about it or at
- 8:57least have it be recognized.
- 8:58Hey,
- 8:59we understand that this was what it is,
- 9:01and we are actively working to change it.
- 9:04Again,
- 9:05not that I'm expecting anybody to say that
- 9:07this is,
- 9:07we understand what was going on and,
- 9:09and we're actively rooting to change it.
- 9:11But if it got, if,
- 9:14if that or us talking about it or
- 9:16whatnot is what got Rebecca, excuse me,
- 9:20Becca to make that post yesterday,
- 9:22inviting people to email her and whatnot
- 9:25so that it could be brought up then,
- 9:27Hey, job done.
- 9:30Did I mention to you that Lito and
- 9:32I used to be friends?
- 9:39Can I express to you, like,
- 9:40I love you guys in the chat.
- 9:41I truly do.
- 9:42But can I express to you how much
- 9:44I really don't care why Gabby withdrew?
- 9:49To me, like,
- 9:51and here it is back to, like,
- 9:52it's sport, right?
- 9:54Yeah.
- 9:54Someone withdraws, I've already moved on.
- 9:58Oh, that sucks.
- 10:01Okay.
- 10:02I'll spend a couple minutes thinking,
- 10:03okay.
- 10:04I wonder why, blah, blah, blah.
- 10:07And then I've moved on to Eileen worse,
- 10:10who was a backfill and finished like.
- 10:14Fifteen to eighteen somewhere in there.
- 10:15I don't know the exact number.
- 10:18Yeah.
- 10:18Mid pack for sure.
- 10:20That's a cooler story to me than why
- 10:22she withdrew.
- 10:23Absolutely.
- 10:28And that's sports.
- 10:30And now we have a producer.
- 10:32yeah now he just that's perfect good lord
- 10:35she's on top of her stuff i love
- 10:36it um she also she also uh threw
- 10:41together some images of colton flying
- 10:44yesterday she sent a couple over and those
- 10:46are fantastic they were fan freaking
- 10:49tastic i said it i sent it to
- 10:50david johnston he was like oh my god
- 10:52that's amazing i was like yeah agreed
- 10:54there he is uh the flying hog colton
- 10:57mertens
- 11:00If you guys don't know,
- 11:01being five foot something and a hundred
- 11:04and ninety,
- 11:05hundred ninety five pounds and being able
- 11:06to lay out like that and make that
- 11:08dive is not an easy thing to do,
- 11:09especially at the end of a workout.
- 11:10I'm just in case you guys were wondering.
- 11:13Well,
- 11:14if you're a male and you lay out
- 11:15like that, you know,
- 11:16they're going to be repercussions.
- 11:18Hundred percent.
- 11:18That isn't going to happen.
- 11:20And so you have to give up.
- 11:24You have to give yourself up knowing that.
- 11:28Yeah.
- 11:28Things are going to hurt after that dive.
- 11:32It's probably not going to be great when
- 11:33you wake up.
- 11:34Well, when you stand up, rather get up,
- 11:36but it's the kind of sacrifices you make.
- 11:42I remember Tim Paulson in the height of
- 11:46his career dove across the finish line,
- 11:49I think, ninety percent of the time.
- 11:51I don't think I've ever seen.
- 11:53Yeah.
- 11:53I don't think I've ever seen Tim just
- 11:55like get across the finish line.
- 11:57Now that you say that.
- 11:58Yeah.
- 11:59Because he was one of – first of
- 12:00all, you couldn't miss him, right?
- 12:01Bright red hair.
- 12:03Not quite as bright as Lito's,
- 12:04but dude's definitely a ginger.
- 12:09I just – first of all,
- 12:11the first thing that always comes to mind
- 12:12is Tim Paul's send because him sending it
- 12:15on that echo bike workout that one time
- 12:17when he just got on it and just
- 12:19tried to break it.
- 12:19Yeah.
- 12:22uh but yeah i think about it it's
- 12:24dive it's you know feet first jump slide
- 12:28whatever i don't think he's ever just like
- 12:29hopped up onto the platform and called it
- 12:31good um peter benoit so does the test
- 12:37to get into the crossfit games actually
- 12:39get the top fittest athletes if a backfill
- 12:42gets eighteenth
- 12:45I don't think it's an indictment on the
- 12:47test, Peter.
- 12:48I think it's an indictment on the method
- 12:51in which we do it.
- 12:53I think anytime that you do online...
- 12:58There's ways to gain.
- 13:00So there is a difference between someone
- 13:02who can do a workout three times,
- 13:04figure it out,
- 13:05and get a really good score by the
- 13:07end of the weekend,
- 13:08and someone who is given the workout and
- 13:11must accomplish it right then and there in
- 13:13the moment at the time.
- 13:15You cannot test that pressure piece of it
- 13:20online.
- 13:22No.
- 13:23Some people can handle the bright lights.
- 13:25Some people can't.
- 13:28Some people perform better under the
- 13:29bright lights and some people just don't.
- 13:33So that's why everybody loved regionals
- 13:36because part of the test of regionals was
- 13:39you have to finish top five or you're
- 13:42done or you're done.
- 13:45And that tested that, that pressure piece.
- 13:49So we got the best people who could
- 13:51handle that at the games.
- 13:57Of course,
- 13:57there could be multiple reasons why that
- 13:59person was only a backfill.
- 14:01Online brings cheaters.
- 14:04There are so many factors.
- 14:06But I do think that when you're getting
- 14:08down to that,
- 14:11the online last chance qualifier,
- 14:13online semifinal,
- 14:14whatever you want to call it at that
- 14:15point,
- 14:16there weren't a lot of people doing that.
- 14:19The video review was much more intense for
- 14:22that.
- 14:24But I do believe that it does not
- 14:26test the pressure cooker that is.
- 14:33Lito makes a great point too.
- 14:34It's also not a single test as there
- 14:36are multiple ways to get through.
- 14:37Yeah.
- 14:40And look,
- 14:41the people who are on that bubble, right,
- 14:46like her, it's not like they're not fit.
- 14:49So, okay, she gets a backfill invite.
- 14:52Cool.
- 14:52Now, all of a sudden, she's mid-pack.
- 14:54Well,
- 14:55if she had done a little bit better
- 14:56on the day,
- 14:57she wouldn't have had to worry about a
- 14:58backfill invite,
- 14:59and she probably still would have finished
- 15:01mid-pack.
- 15:02Well, and I think in those semifinals,
- 15:04it was one or two points difference
- 15:06between – Yeah,
- 15:07she was knocking on the door.
- 15:10Yeah.
- 15:10We're not talking about huge advantages of
- 15:13the people who got in and she didn't.
- 15:15Or the guy that nobody knew who he
- 15:17was.
- 15:21I keep wanting to say Gonzalez.
- 15:23Or Gomez.
- 15:23I don't remember.
- 15:26That's how much, right?
- 15:27Manuel Reyes?
- 15:28Reyes.
- 15:29That's him.
- 15:31Close to Gonzalez.
- 15:33Almost there.
- 15:34It's Spanish.
- 15:36I'm sort of Latin origin.
- 15:41Nobody knew who that guy was?
- 15:44And apparently they still don't.
- 15:45And they still don't.
- 15:46I still couldn't tell you his name,
- 15:49obviously.
- 15:50But, I mean,
- 15:50they were asking other athletes about him,
- 15:53and they were like, he legitimately said,
- 15:57I have no idea who that is.
- 15:59And apparently he competed in the team
- 16:01games too,
- 16:01and they still couldn't remember that.
- 16:04No.
- 16:05Unbelievable.
- 16:07Joseph Ramirez wants to point out that not
- 16:09all Latins are the same.
- 16:13You are definitely a special one, Mr.
- 16:15Joseph.
- 16:18David Reed had a comment.
- 16:20Vicky, you had up for a second.
- 16:23I look at the open as a baseline.
- 16:24There's a certain level you need to make
- 16:26semis.
- 16:27Semis has a baseline to get to the
- 16:29games.
- 16:30If you meet that baseline,
- 16:31you're fit enough to handle the games
- 16:32test.
- 16:34I think from a fitness perspective,
- 16:36all of that is true, David.
- 16:38yeah but i think from a spotlight in
- 16:40front of a large crowd thing isn't tested
- 16:43in any of those yeah and that can
- 16:47make or break an athlete at the highest
- 16:49level and you know what that is that's
- 16:52sport that's sports um
- 17:02before we dive into the last little thing
- 17:04and i do have a one o'clock meeting
- 17:06today so this isn't going to be a
- 17:07super long show um we talked about the
- 17:11cac and how the twelve-year-old humor in
- 17:13us all thinks that that's still funny do
- 17:16you know what's still funny and i forgot
- 17:18it was funny is king of the hill
- 17:20oh god yeah so those kids could read
- 17:23they all be highly upset my wife and
- 17:29i watched the last two episodes of last
- 17:30season because the new season just
- 17:33kicked off i don't think i've laughed out
- 17:36loud at a show that much so it's
- 17:41all mike joe dude that dude is he's
- 17:45a hell of a writer he really really
- 17:48is there there's a scene in the next
- 17:50to last episode of the last season where
- 17:54i rewound it three times just so i
- 17:56could laugh again just because like i
- 17:58didn't get enough of that hold on let
- 18:00me get up let me get a little
- 18:01bit more of that
- 18:03And all it is, all it is,
- 18:04is Peggy is playing pickleball.
- 18:08And the Asian woman has told her that
- 18:13she's great at pickleball because of her
- 18:15wide hips.
- 18:16And she has taken exception to that.
- 18:18So now she's playing with ferocity.
- 18:21Right?
- 18:21Yeah.
- 18:22And she goes to plant and her knee
- 18:25pops.
- 18:27And all of a sudden,
- 18:28all you hear her say is,
- 18:30son of a bitch.
- 18:33And she falls to the court.
- 18:36And I could not stop howling.
- 18:42Because every time something like that
- 18:45happens to my wife,
- 18:46that's exactly what she does.
- 18:47She goes, son of a bitch.
- 18:52And I kept rewinding it going, that's you.
- 18:53That's you.
- 18:54Does that sound familiar at all?
- 18:58I know it should.
- 19:00That is fantastic, dude.
- 19:01That is absolutely fantastic.
- 19:04That's one of my favorite shows.
- 19:05Bobby, autocorrect can duck off.
- 19:11He's beyond his name.
- 19:15That boy ain't right.
- 19:18That boy ain't right.
- 19:21That's a fantastic show.
- 19:23I cannot say enough about it.
- 19:26If you didn't know,
- 19:27they brought it back like a year ago.
- 19:30And now Bobby is a hibachi chef at
- 19:36a half Japanese, half Texas barbecue.
- 19:45That in and of it's a,
- 19:46you can stop right there.
- 19:47I guess that's, that's enough.
- 19:49That's not, um,
- 19:53i need to find because i they they
- 19:55took it away but um mike judge also
- 19:58did the tales from the tour bus i
- 20:01think you and i've had this conversation
- 20:02before um where he goes they tell stories
- 20:06about uh the first season was all country
- 20:11country singers so like george jones and
- 20:13whatnot it's all animated looks just like
- 20:16king of the hill right but it's people
- 20:18telling actual stories of stuff that
- 20:21happened and then they animated
- 20:23oh my word it's fantastic dude like um
- 20:30because it's all real stories and it
- 20:32starts off with mike judge who's animated
- 20:34by the way he animated himself talking to
- 20:37the camera
- 20:38And it explains like what's fixing to
- 20:40happen and whatnot.
- 20:41And Johnny Paycheck, George Jones,
- 20:46some other like songwriter types and
- 20:48whatnot.
- 20:48And it is absolutely hilarious.
- 20:50And the second season was strictly focused
- 20:53on George Clinton.
- 20:58And and like the whole like, dude, oh,
- 21:01my God, it's so good.
- 21:03So that dude is fantastic.
- 21:05He George Clinton.
- 21:06Yeah.
- 21:08George Clinton lives in Tallahassee,
- 21:10Florida.
- 21:12I lived in Tallahassee for four years.
- 21:16I ran into George Clinton picking out a
- 21:19sweater at a Sam's Club.
- 21:24And if you don't know who George Clinton
- 21:25is,
- 21:26his hair is eighty-seven different colors.
- 21:30And he's the leader of the P-Funk
- 21:32All-Stars.
- 21:33P-Funk All-Stars, baby.
- 21:36And to see him over there holding up
- 21:38a sweater with the dreads of multicolored
- 21:44rainbow.
- 21:46Oh, my gosh, dude.
- 21:49I'd have lost it right then and there.
- 21:50I'd have been like, nope, that's enough.
- 21:54That's enough.
- 21:55I don't need any more.
- 21:55And my wife's like,
- 21:56you going to go say something to him?
- 21:58No.
- 21:59First of all, he's a large man.
- 22:01Yeah, he is a big dude.
- 22:02He's a large man.
- 22:04Like, no, I'm not going to go.
- 22:05What do you want me to go say?
- 22:06Hey, good choice.
- 22:08I like the brown one better.
- 22:10Yeah.
- 22:11The brown one goes better with your skin
- 22:12tone and the three different colors you
- 22:14have in your hair.
- 22:16No, dude, you're not doing that.
- 22:22Anyway, Mike Judge is brilliant.
- 22:24Of course, we've gone off the rails again.
- 22:26Yeah.
- 22:28From Beavis and Butthead through King of
- 22:30the Hill.
- 22:32I don't know if I'm,
- 22:33I don't think I ever missed a Beavis
- 22:35and Butthead when I was in college.
- 22:38I've seen most of them.
- 22:42And then Daria, Daria, Daria.
- 22:44Daria.
- 22:46Daria.
- 22:47Yeah.
- 22:52Anyway, so we,
- 22:54yesterday the homework assignment was that
- 22:56we have,
- 22:57we have a guy who just won his
- 22:58second CrossFit Games.
- 23:01What is his legacy?
- 23:03Our executive producer, Dr. Vicki,
- 23:08sent me an essay that she wrote on
- 23:10what is legacy.
- 23:15And her point to the whole thing was,
- 23:18it's not really what you do on the
- 23:20floor that creates a true legacy.
- 23:24It's more like...
- 23:27all the intangibles and the things that
- 23:30come from that that you do off the
- 23:32floor.
- 23:34And our example is like Rich didn't only
- 23:36win four titles.
- 23:38Rich elevated everything.
- 23:41He owns an affiliate.
- 23:44He owns a programming company.
- 23:46He owns a training camp.
- 23:48He went on to the teams and elevated
- 23:51teams for six years.
- 23:54All of that stuff.
- 23:55Right.
- 23:56And so I,
- 24:01I totally understand where she's coming
- 24:02from and I don't disagree with it,
- 24:06but I think it all starts with,
- 24:07you have to be great on the floor
- 24:09first.
- 24:10Yeah.
- 24:12Right.
- 24:15Yeah.
- 24:15I wouldn't even necessarily say you have
- 24:16to be great.
- 24:17You have to be good enough to be
- 24:18recognized.
- 24:21have to be good enough for people to
- 24:22remember who you are to where it gives
- 24:25you the capability and the ability and
- 24:28well-liked that probably is also a thing
- 24:30on there to be able to do all
- 24:32those other things because otherwise
- 24:35you're just some dude who competed at the
- 24:36games yeah so like joseph is saying it's
- 24:43too soon for justin and james legacy talk
- 24:46I don't think it's too soon for Justin.
- 24:48And I think Justin is doing things now
- 24:50that he didn't do a couple of years
- 24:51ago that are going to change what we
- 24:54look at as his legacy,
- 24:57that van trip to go from affiliate to
- 24:59affiliate to affiliate and do the drop-ins
- 25:03with his buddies and handing out gear and
- 25:07prizes to people up and down the coast
- 25:11of California.
- 25:12Like those are the things that are going
- 25:14to change Justin's legacy.
- 25:17Or let's say add to it.
- 25:19Add to it.
- 25:20Sure.
- 25:22Because no matter what,
- 25:23so the guys that only won once,
- 25:26like the Ben Smiths and the, you know,
- 25:29Jasons and whoever else,
- 25:32you still have a legacy because just by
- 25:35virtue of winning,
- 25:36you're going to have some sort of legacy.
- 25:38How you want to be remembered is what
- 25:40we're getting into with all the extra
- 25:41stuff that you do outside of it to
- 25:44where people have their perception of you.
- 25:46There's that saying that, you know,
- 25:48people aren't going to remember the
- 25:49accolades.
- 25:49They're going to remember how you made
- 25:50them feel.
- 25:52Right.
- 25:54Clayton,
- 25:54while Matt did most of those things and
- 25:56his legacy is significantly less than
- 25:58Rich's, it isn't a standard formula.
- 26:00I agree with you.
- 26:01Yeah.
- 26:02I agree.
- 26:04But Matt,
- 26:07I think that Matt going on Rogan hurt
- 26:09his legacy more than helped it.
- 26:13the three hour and whatever that was
- 26:15minute podcast did more to damage his
- 26:20reputation and his legacy than in anything
- 26:23he has done.
- 26:24It's just starting to come back now.
- 26:26Well, five years ago.
- 26:29Yeah.
- 26:30And the fact that he,
- 26:31I think the fact that he participated as
- 26:33much as he did in the games this
- 26:36year is a step to rehab that legacy.
- 26:39A hundred percent.
- 26:41One percent.
- 26:43Just the fact that he showed up,
- 26:45he came out there.
- 26:45He was he again,
- 26:49like we talked about earlier,
- 26:49he visibly seemed to be enjoying himself
- 26:52on the floor with the microphone,
- 26:54giving out the workout,
- 26:55all of the things like that goes a
- 26:57long way.
- 26:59whether people want to admit it or not,
- 27:01just the fact that he looked like he
- 27:02was enjoying himself when people still,
- 27:05even though that was forever ago,
- 27:07still had that picture in their mind of
- 27:09him sitting there talking to Rogan and
- 27:11telling him all the crazy stuff that he
- 27:12said, right,
- 27:13or stuff that we would think would feel
- 27:15like it's crazy.
- 27:18Now all of a sudden you're on the
- 27:19floor and you look like you're enjoying
- 27:20yourself.
- 27:21Oh, okay, you actually want to be here.
- 27:24That goes a long way.
- 27:26because he really distanced himself from
- 27:28crossfit oh hundred percent um
- 27:32intentionally or not that's what ended up
- 27:35happening doesn't pat have a legacy in the
- 27:38space he does i everybody has a legacy
- 27:42it's just how big that or how great
- 27:46it's a it is perceived to be yeah
- 27:49right the fact of the matter is
- 27:55both brent and pat have a legacy i
- 27:58think their legacy is tied together
- 27:59because for some reason because they're
- 28:01both canadian people think they're family
- 28:04and so because they're both and they both
- 28:06had a rookie year the same year and
- 28:08they like that whole was that when i
- 28:12you know they just showed up on the
- 28:13scene all of a sudden together even though
- 28:15pat had been on a team like two
- 28:17years before that that's why they're
- 28:19they're they're lumped together
- 28:24And they both love them or hate them.
- 28:29Them,
- 28:30the actions they took after the Lazar
- 28:32death did something to their legacy.
- 28:37And whichever side of the fence you were
- 28:40on, it either, in your eyes,
- 28:43made it better or made it worse.
- 28:45Yep.
- 28:48mike devito honestly and i love matt for
- 28:50his accomplishment but i think his
- 28:52appearance was strategy to ensure his
- 28:54business growth like now all of a sudden
- 28:57you care i think mike you're being a
- 29:00little bit too harsh when i became a
- 29:04dad my perspective on everything changed
- 29:07hugely and matt just gave well he didn't
- 29:12give birth but his
- 29:14I hope he did.
- 29:14That would have been awesome.
- 29:16His wife has given birth and he has
- 29:17become a father.
- 29:19He's the goat,
- 29:20so much so that he's given birth.
- 29:23And when that happens,
- 29:28your perspective on the world changes and
- 29:31your perspective on life changes.
- 29:36I've interviewed Matt on this show.
- 29:40I have talked to Matt in person several
- 29:42times.
- 29:44Never once did he come off as the
- 29:46guy on Rogan.
- 29:47Right.
- 29:50Never once in real life did he do
- 29:52that.
- 29:54And so we have all these perceptions and
- 29:58how we perceive people to be,
- 30:01and that's not always reality.
- 30:05So I think that Matt will forever have
- 30:08a legacy.
- 30:10Will it ever be Rich's legacy?
- 30:12No.
- 30:12No.
- 30:14They're not the same people, though.
- 30:18Matt has never, one way or another,
- 30:21spoken publicly about his faith.
- 30:22There's no, you know,
- 30:24there's not that component of it.
- 30:26Matt doesn't have HWPO hunt and, you know,
- 30:30the things that they do for all the
- 30:33stuff that Rich does, dropping into,
- 30:35you know, if he's somewhere,
- 30:36he's going to drop into a Mayhem
- 30:37affiliate.
- 30:39You know, Rich,
- 30:40he's just a different type of person.
- 30:43if you know anything if you guys have
- 30:46met matt fraser is an engineer brain works
- 30:51fundamentally fundamentally different than
- 30:54most everybody else on the planet rich is
- 30:59a and god forgive me for just saying
- 31:01this but rich grew up being a jock
- 31:03an athlete his brain also works
- 31:05fundamentally different than most people
- 31:08on the planet
- 31:09They look at problems differently.
- 31:10They solve problems differently.
- 31:12It's not going to be the same people.
- 31:14It's just not, right?
- 31:15I mean,
- 31:16there's not necessarily anything wrong or
- 31:18right about one versus the other.
- 31:21It's just a different approach.
- 31:23And I think, like you said,
- 31:25I think Matt has,
- 31:27they got two kids now, right?
- 31:28Yep.
- 31:29Yeah.
- 31:30A hundred percent softened,
- 31:33especially now that we got two.
- 31:34And like, you become a dad, dude,
- 31:36especially with two.
- 31:37That's all that matters.
- 31:39sure them kids are okay they got food
- 31:42they're loved roof over their head whatnot
- 31:47um so i think that's why you saw
- 31:49a little bit of a a shift you
- 31:51know like ramirez was saying when they
- 31:53talked about the games this year like he
- 31:54seemed way more relaxed than he was last
- 31:56year yeah i um
- 32:03talked to him a bunch at the syndicate
- 32:04crown a couple years ago he was there
- 32:06it was when hopper was still with him
- 32:09and he was there coaching and he was
- 32:12a he was a joy to talk to
- 32:13honestly um because he wasn't competing it
- 32:18wasn't like first of all i think hwpo
- 32:22was a a creation that matt o'keefe came
- 32:25up with to capitalize on the success of
- 32:28matt's career
- 32:30I don't think Matt ever felt that he
- 32:33was going to be a coach.
- 32:35He'll tell you he never was.
- 32:36He never wanted to be a coach.
- 32:38Right.
- 32:39And so I think,
- 32:40and the other part of this is finding
- 32:43where he fits,
- 32:44like hiring Justin Kotler to take over the
- 32:46coaching lead of HWPO and him being able
- 32:50to say, hands off.
- 32:53I'll come in.
- 32:54I'll talk to the athletes.
- 32:56I'll do whatever I need to do was
- 32:58the best thing Matt could have ever done.
- 33:00Yeah,
- 33:00probably the most shrewd business decision
- 33:02since H H W has been a thing.
- 33:04Let me get one of the best coaches
- 33:06in the,
- 33:06in the space and put him under my
- 33:08wing,
- 33:09especially saying where Justin was like,
- 33:12he just wants to coach.
- 33:14He didn't want to run the under all
- 33:15the underdog stuff and do all the managing
- 33:17shit.
- 33:17Why he's told you that right here on
- 33:19this show.
- 33:20Yep.
- 33:22Match made in heaven.
- 33:26Um,
- 33:28Mike says, if he wants HWPO to survive,
- 33:31HWPO needs to be a huge part of
- 33:32the community.
- 33:33I bet you if you polled every CrossFitter
- 33:36in the world,
- 33:37you would be shocked the high percentage
- 33:41of people that do HWPO programming.
- 33:45I wouldn't be.
- 33:47It's a lot.
- 33:48I know it's a lot.
- 33:49I know several athletes,
- 33:50friends of mine that follow it and have
- 33:53for quite some time.
- 33:55Uh, speaking of shrewd decisions.

- 35:09I've got this one o'clock meeting.
- 35:13But I do want to pull up Shanna's
- 35:14thing because this is my experience with
- 35:16Matt and I want her to share this.
- 35:20shanna's comment vicky it's it's right
- 35:22there yep yeah well we can dock her
- 35:28ten dollars for that um matt talked to
- 35:31me for fifteen minutes at the venue
- 35:33fifteen i thought that was insane and he
- 35:36did all the talking yeah yeah he like
- 35:42in person he's great i interviewed his mom
- 35:44that was one of my favorite interviews of
- 35:46all time
- 35:48Hearing the stories of young Matt and the
- 35:53rebel kid that he was and that he
- 35:56never listened to the rules or the...
- 35:58I have no problem believing any of that,
- 36:01by the way.
- 36:03None whatsoever.
- 36:05I can believe that he was a little
- 36:08badass growing up.
- 36:10The story she tells about them going
- 36:12skiing...
- 36:14And all of a sudden,
- 36:15they heard those rumors of this kid
- 36:17flipping off of a ski jump,
- 36:19doing multiple flips and twists and all
- 36:22this stuff.
- 36:23And she looked at her husband and goes,
- 36:25I know it's Matthew.
- 36:31Like, yeah, that's going to be mine.
- 36:32Let's go find him before he gets us
- 36:35all kicked out of here.
- 36:38Yeah.
- 36:39they went over and he won like some
- 36:41big prize for best ski jump or whatever
- 36:44and he'd never done it before um so
