- 0:04SPEAKER_04: But the part of you that wants to serve is still there.
- 0:07SPEAKER_04: Military life gives you a mission, a team, structure, and a reason people are counting on you.
- 0:13SPEAKER_04: Then transition comes and nobody hands you the next set of orders.
- 0:16SPEAKER_04: For couples who've but who've both served, the question gets even more interesting.
- 0:22SPEAKER_04: How do two people carry what the military gave them into a new chapter without tying, sorry, trying to recreate the life they just left?
- 0:31SPEAKER_04: Today's conversation is about mission, the second silent war, and what it looks like when purpose stops being assigned and becomes something a family chooses to build together.

- 1:50SPEAKER_04: Bombshell Suds Company is a family-run small batch soap company built for veterans, military members, first responders, blue-collar workers, and other hardworking people.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: And by the way, guys, the soap is fantastic.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: I use it myself, absolutely.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: Uh, their next mission brings service, craftsmanship, marriage, family, and the entrepreneurship together under one roof.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: And that's a lot.
- 2:12SPEAKER_04: Justin and Misty, uh, welcome to your thoughts, your reality.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: If you will, just tell us a little more about yourself.
- 2:18SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 2:18SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: So yeah, well, I'm Misty.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: I'm married to this guy last 15 years.
- 2:25SPEAKER_03: It's been fun.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: I was I was in the military for just a short while and then decided to still serve by being a nurse, but I also teach group fitness.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: So it's just always been in my nature to serve.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: Help others, yeah.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and help others.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: Justin.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: How about how about you, Justin?
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: And then I'm Justin.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: I'm married to Misty, 15 years, born 16.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Um, joined right out of high school.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: I didn't really have a plan.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: I barely made it through high school, and then I just one thing led to another.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: I just I stayed in.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: I was too dumb to quit.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: So that that's that's the God's honest truth.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: And then she was my biggest motivator.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Every time I wanted to separate, when time came to separate, she said, just a little bit longer, a little bit longer will be worth it.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: And then time came.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: I retired, we retired from the military, and then we were like, what now?
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: And that's where we are now is is still what now?
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely get that.
- 3:24SPEAKER_04: And and that's life, right?
- 3:25SPEAKER_04: I mean, you're always looking.
- 3:27SPEAKER_04: Well, I shouldn't say that.
- 3:29SPEAKER_04: Successful entrepreneurs are always looking for, you know, what's next?
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: What are we working on?
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: And so on.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: So I love that, man.
- 3:35SPEAKER_04: So you guys both wore the uniform, but you know, transition doesn't hit two people the same way, right?
- 3:40SPEAKER_04: When military life started becoming, you know, the past, what did each of you miss most?
- 3:46SPEAKER_04: And where were your experiences like totally completely different?
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: That's a good question.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: For me, like in the military, I just really didn't feel like I belonged there, even though I wanted to serve.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: So once I got out, I've always just had a strong background in fitness.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: And like I said, both my parents are retired police officers.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: So it just felt like the next step for me to was to go into being a police officer.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: And so I I did that.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: I was daff.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: And I just I don't really know.
- 4:25SPEAKER_04: I just so you go to the military and kind of went into nursing.
- 4:31SPEAKER_04: And so what do you think was different from from well?
- 4:35SPEAKER_04: Let me ask Justin first, and then let's come back to what how they were possibly different.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: So Justin, same, same question for you, brother.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: So, what was my service like?
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: It was it was a roller coaster.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: I think everybody's time in the military is a roller coaster.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: Uh it wasn't all uh rainbows and and unicorns.
- 4:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm I'm I'm I'm looking more for after the military.
- 4:55SPEAKER_04: So during the transition, um we didn't kind of start becoming the the past and and what did what did you miss the most?
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: It's been it's been the past the whole time.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: I was never headset on the military.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: So transitioning, taking the uniform off is pretty simple.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: It's always been trying to find a mission.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: What do I what do I do next?
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: How?
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: What do I do with my hands?
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Like Ricky Bobby says, what do I do with my hands?
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: So there there really was no issue leaving that world behind.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: It's finding the new world to go to.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: Got it.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: So what do you guys think was different for was it different for you guys then?
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: The the transition sounds like you were both ready to do it and you didn't really run into a lot of issues other than finding what am I doing next?
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: And Misty sounds like she kind of knew already.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, Misty definitely had it on.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: It's it's me, I'm the lost one.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: I think I'm more like Peter Pan, never want to grow up.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Hey, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: So so that's that's that's the only answer I can come up with.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: I just I don't I don't know how to grow up.
- 6:04SPEAKER_04: Okay, that's fair.
- 6:07SPEAKER_04: So people say that about me too.
- 6:09SPEAKER_04: I tell people I'm never going to because when I do, I'm gonna die.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: It's yeah, it's just who I am, you know.
- 6:17SPEAKER_04: So uh you've been uh open about you know struggling to rebuild that structure, right?
- 6:21SPEAKER_04: We're just talking about what the next purpose is.
- 6:23SPEAKER_04: So my question is to Misty.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: What were you seeing in him during that transition that he may not have been able to see in himself?
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:31SPEAKER_04: Uh I know I've got tough questions, don't I?
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: Well, I just saw that, I mean, I knew he wasn't ready to fully retire because he has to stay busy.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: And I knew that he just needed to find something that he enjoyed doing and also have like a love for it.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: And I was just kind of letting him try to figure it out, you know.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: You know, so he was like bouncing around from one civilian job to the other.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I don't care.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: Like my constant is in nursing, so it doesn't really matter where I'm gonna go, we're gonna have we're gonna be okay.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: So just letting him figure it out.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: But I knew he had to do something.
- 7:19SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 7:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and amen, amen.
- 7:21SPEAKER_04: Because that that, you know, that's the uh I don't want to call it the norm, but that's the pattern, right?
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: Is you get out of the military after so long and you don't have the orders, you don't have somebody telling you what to do, you don't have any of that shit, and all of a sudden it's like, what am I gonna do?
- 7:35SPEAKER_04: And that's what I've seen the the biggest biggest struggle in with what I you know work with, you know, with people.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: So it's not just military guys.
- 7:43SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's it could be police, it could be any anything, a corporate job, and all of a sudden you're in a new one and it doesn't fit, you know, you're just not finding that purpose, you know, because I think that's what everybody's really looking for.
- 7:57SPEAKER_04: Would you agree with that?
- 7:58SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 7:58SPEAKER_04: It's just finding that purpose.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: No, 100%.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: That's that's exactly what it is.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: And even even so, what is that purpose with when you come and once you find it, how do you know you found it?
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: So answer that for me.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, for me, it makes me feel good, you know.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: Um, it's definitely like rewarding for me when I when I'm in where I'm supposed to be, I feel good, everything kind of works out, and even when you have your bad days, it's okay because you're doing what you love.
- 8:30SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, absolutely, and I love that because like for me, you know, we own three different companies, and I I I think the simplest answer is it gets you up early in the morning and keeps you up late at night, right?
- 8:43SPEAKER_04: That's when you find your purpose.
- 8:45SPEAKER_04: So when you're so let's let's talk about the soap company if we can.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: No, that's what I was about to say.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: That seems to be soap because soap has it up early in the morning, has me up late at night, and it doesn't it never feels like work, even though I'm always busy with it.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm never tired about my I'm never not once have I said, damn, I really gotta do this and I don't want to.
- 9:06SPEAKER_04: Yes, yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_04: I love you said that because really it's about being pulled towards something and not pushed towards it, right?
- 9:11SPEAKER_04: Yes, there's such a huge difference when you're pushed, because people can have have discipline, they can have all those things, but with when you're not pulled towards something and you're I have to and I need to instead of I get to, and in fact, I just did a full speech about this.
- 9:27SPEAKER_04: Um, but it it feels so different, and that's the difference between someone that's gonna burn out and someone that's enjoying what they're doing.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: Yes, sir.
- 9:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I love that.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: So let's talk about the soap company.
- 9:38SPEAKER_04: So bomb fill suds uh started partly as a way to create purpose and keep moving, is what I'm getting from you guys.
- 9:45SPEAKER_04: At what point did it stop feeling like something we're trying and start feeling like a mission that the whole family could actually believe in?
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: I think once we started getting, I think the physical results from the the soap, as far as when we we when we use it in the shower, right?
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: Uh, we've gone through so many different formulas to try to tie in the dry skin that you we would get, or the bars lasting longer, or even the scents, because she's the wizard with the scents.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Once we started putting all the the pieces together to that puzzle and actually create a formula that actually takes care of the dry skin, it lasts a while in the shower, and and it hits those those scent notes that people really like, that's when it really started making a difference.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think it just happened kind of gradually.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: We start seeing people coming back, or you know, hey, I loved your soap.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: I went and told this person about it, and now their family's ordering.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: I'm like, oh my gosh, this is this could really be something bigger than we thought.
- 10:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely love it.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: And and it's it's it's when you're starting as an entrepreneur, it's scary as hell, right?
- 10:58SPEAKER_04: I'm sure you've through this as well.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: Like every company has started passionate about it, driven, like ready to go, but they're still in the back of your head, just a little bit going, Well shit.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: Yep, every day.
- 11:09SPEAKER_04: Every day, absolutely, absolutely, and I think that keeps you on your toes to some extent, yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: No, 100%.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: Uh every day is you had to be a cat, a cat on a hot stove.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: You you had to be quick to hop off and have to hit the next thing because it's so fluid.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: It you can't control it.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:26SPEAKER_04: Control what you can control.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: That's yourself, right?
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: That's the only thing in the world we can actually control.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: I can't even do that sometimes.
- 11:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: I res I respect that.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my um what was that?
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: I said no, I was just gonna say, yeah, my my attitude and temper tend to get the best of me most times.
- 11:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, we're gonna work on that.
- 11:50SPEAKER_04: I got you, brother.
- 11:52SPEAKER_04: Um, so so military teams have rank, right?
- 11:55SPEAKER_04: Role standards, and clear authority.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: Marriage doesn't.
- 12:00SPEAKER_04: So I have another another couple of uh veterans married that uh come on here as well.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: So I'm always I think it's really important.
- 12:09SPEAKER_04: How do I say this?
- 12:10SPEAKER_04: Really important to to bring to light the the challenges, the successes, obviously, all of those things that come with that.
- 12:20SPEAKER_04: So because it's not easy to work together, live together, all of those things.
- 12:27SPEAKER_04: My wife and I do it as well, you know.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, what was that?
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: We were just laughing.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: We we agreeings were laughing.
- 12:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay, got it, got it.
- 12:35SPEAKER_04: So, so which military habits have made you stronger business partners?
- 12:40SPEAKER_04: Uh let's start with that.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Uh work ethic, I think.
- 12:45SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: Our work both of us have, I think, ridiculous amounts of work ethic.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: There's no doll, there's no quit in in either of us.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: So that's one trait that we both carried over.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Well that we picked up.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: I think we probably even both had it both before the military, the military just amplified it.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: And and now it just it just continues to grow.
- 13:08SPEAKER_04: That's awesome that you guys found that because a lot of times people don't and they just kind of spin, you know, because they don't know where to go next and what to do next and that kind of thing.
- 13:17SPEAKER_04: So congratulations, first of all, for figuring that out.
- 13:19SPEAKER_04: Miss uh Misty, do you have something else or is that kind of yours as well?
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, our work ethic, and there we really like for either one of us, we we just don't stop.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: We're always looking for the next thing to get into.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: We constantly staying busy.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I guess that can be a fault as well.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: But for us, it's it's it worked out pretty well.
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, fantastic.
- 13:44SPEAKER_04: And yeah, I think sometimes if you're too busy all the time, absolutely.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: You know, I I actually in the last probably year, even though, you know, again, like you guys, I'm I'm always looking to improve and and and do things, I've I've learned to step back a little bit because you know, other relationships, other things in life, we're we're and I'm obviously being a little vulnerable here, but that's what we do here.
- 14:08SPEAKER_04: So, you know, we're we're we're being in a sense taken advantage of by me, you know, and and so I've really worked on stepping back and spending time and and for for family and myself for that matter.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, same.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: I've learned to step back a little bit as well.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: I have not.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: No, I have not.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: I I haven't found that that balance yet.
- 14:30SPEAKER_04: No, yeah, and it's it's challenging because a lot of times you're looking for well, there's all kinds of things you could be looking for by staying busy, but there's it validation, and I mean there's a million things, right?
- 14:42SPEAKER_04: Or you just your mind goes and you need to stay busy.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: That's and that's where mine's at.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: It's it's it that's one of my I think downfalls with my uh PTST is just I I'm never I'm never done.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, got it.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: Totally, totally get that.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: So, so let's let's flip that.
- 14:57SPEAKER_04: We talked about what military habits have made you guys stronger business partners.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: Now, which ones would you say absolutely do not belong in a husband and wife company?
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he cannot try to pull a rank on me.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: It doesn't work at all.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: And it yeah, it didn't work then either.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: So she says I bring rank into the manor.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: I've I've never brought rank into the mana.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, in the beginning, he would totally try to like talk to me like one of his troops, and I'd be like, wait a minute, I am not one of your troops, calm down.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I gotta tell you something.
- 15:35SPEAKER_04: So again, my husband, uh, my my wife and I work together as well.
- 15:40SPEAKER_04: And I don't know if it's a man thing or a leadership thing, or let's call it both, but I think that kind of happens naturally, and we have to remember that our our amazing family members aren't our employees, you know.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: That's key.
- 16:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I don't want to be real, I you know, there's times that didn't even realize I was doing it, you know.
- 16:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I I think it's uh hold on this podcast isn't about me.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: It makes me think also, like I I think I expect that also internally.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: I'm like, if I'm doing this, you should be doing it also.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, I'm like, I just because you're doing doesn't mean I have to do it right now.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Like I'll get to it.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 16:26SPEAKER_04: And and I think that's one of the things that you have to, I don't think there's a work-life balance, I think there's a work-life flow because it's it's never, in my opinion, it's never truly balanced.
- 16:37SPEAKER_04: I think it moves, right?
- 16:38SPEAKER_04: There's certain times it's more family, certain times it's more work, that kind of thing.
- 16:42SPEAKER_04: And I think that as long as you guys communicate, and I don't mean you guys specifically, but people communicate, I think that's where it makes a difference and it works.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, if one of us is tired, one of us is down, one of us is just in a bad mood, we want to theoretically kick the cat.
- 16:59SPEAKER_04: I don't have a cat right now.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: Um animal activists, we're okay.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: So I I think that's kind of the key, though, really, is just communication of man, I'm at 10%, and the other person helps, you know, just to kind of balance.
- 17:16unknown: Yeah.
- 17:16SPEAKER_04: Do you guys agree with that?
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you can't always be a hundred percent all of the time.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
- 17:24SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 17:25SPEAKER_04: So so Misty, with your nursing background, it helps shape the formulas and the way you think about the skin, skin, and the function of the soaps.
- 17:33SPEAKER_04: How does caring for people in healthcare show up differently when the thing you're creating is a product someone uses at the end of a hard day?
- 17:41SPEAKER_03: That's a great question.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: It really just comes down to self-care.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: You know, when you can take care of yourself externally, that's going to show up in different areas of your life.
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: You know, you're gonna be happier, healthier, and probably, you know, people might want to be around you a little bit more than they were, you know.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: And that, you know, comes down to your health too.
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: You know, just you know, if you're not taking care of your health, someone's gonna have to take care of you eventually.
- 18:19SPEAKER_03: And for me, I I want to be able to take care of myself, both mentally, physically, emotionally, and that all just ties into everything for me.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: And I see that so much in in my patients, you know, they haven't taken care of themselves, but they've been pouring into somebody else, and now they're a hundred percent drained and their health is, you know, crap.
- 18:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I love I love you say that because you know they say put your oxygen mask on first before you do your child or the thing.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:52SPEAKER_04: Because here's the reality, right?
- 18:53SPEAKER_04: And I want let's talk about this a little bit.
- 18:55SPEAKER_04: If your health is bad, your your everything else is affected by it, right?
- 19:01SPEAKER_04: We take it advantage.
- 19:02SPEAKER_04: I I think we we take for granted is the word I'm looking for, our our health that is just gonna be there until it's not.
- 19:10SPEAKER_04: And then it's like, how did this happen?
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:13SPEAKER_04: So do you see that a lot with with the nursing and so on?
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, 100%.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: You know, they haven't taken care of themselves.
- 19:20SPEAKER_03: And now, you know, even either way you look at it, whether you're healthy or not healthy, both are hard to stay healthy.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: It's hard to it's hard to stay there.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: And when you are unhealthy and you've lived all these unhealthy habits, that's a hard life too.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: When you're taking 16 different medications, you know, and you can't even make it to the bathroom.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: It's terrible.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:47SPEAKER_04: And I think I think it's uh my opinion, it's it's a little easier to take care of yourself before it goes wrong than it is after, yeah?
- 19:55SPEAKER_04: Oh, 100%.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so so thank you.
- 19:59SPEAKER_04: Justin, you've called Misty the real brains behind the business.
- 20:03SPEAKER_04: And Misty is literally part of the bomb-shelling enemy, obviously.
- 20:06SPEAKER_04: How do you decide who owns which part of the mission without turning every what's called disagreement into a battle over whose idea wins?
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: I don't think we have set lines in the sand, or there's no lines in the sand with us.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: It's w w what am I taking care of today?
- 20:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, you're doing this.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Can do you want me to help you do that?
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Patterns that we have in our marriage into the business.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Just helping each other out when we see we need help.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: And if they don't need help, I mean obviously asking and offering, but knowing that they don't need it, then I have other things that I'm gonna do too.
- 20:44SPEAKER_04: I I love that.
- 20:45SPEAKER_04: And I think that it's super important to everybody be seen and heard, yeah?
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, a hundred percent.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: But I'm always asking her opinion for everything.
- 20:54SPEAKER_02: I don't make a decision unless I know she's gonna say yes without asking her and getting her thoughts.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: I I want her to feel heard and seen and that her voice does matter in this because it she is the the logo, she's Lady Bombshell.
- 21:07SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 21:08SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 21:09SPEAKER_04: So, so would you say, I mean, that you you don't have certain roles.
- 21:16SPEAKER_04: Is that correct?
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, or or is it Misty takes care of like the financial parts of it, orders, whatever, and you make the soap?
- 21:25SPEAKER_04: Is there or you guys both do everything?
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: I'm we do everything right now, to be honest, he does about 98% of the work.
- 21:35unknown: Okay.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: Right now, like I'll say, hey, you know, we should make this scent or whatever.
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: And I'll be like, Oh, I want I want my soap to smell like this, or and he's like, All right, and so we get the scents and stuff, and that's about as far as I go right now.
- 21:55SPEAKER_04: So that's that's cool though.
- 21:56SPEAKER_04: So when you guys are not totally going off the rails, you know, that's okay.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: So when you guys are like, hey, I want a sandalwood or something like that.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, do you guys just take a bunch of different scents and you're just testing them and trying them?
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: Or do you just put together, let me rephrase that.
- 22:12SPEAKER_04: Do you put make bars with the scents like that?
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: Or do you just put together the essential oils or whatever you guys use to make the scents and then decide to make the bars?
- 22:22SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: We the second one, we tend to test out the scent first before we we waste product in the bars.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: We've been doing it, we made enough bars of soap to know that the scents sometimes change, and we've kind of put a finger on which ones do change.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Talking about the fragrance we want to smell and get the keynotes, the base notes, and then putting it together and making sure she approves.
- 22:50SPEAKER_04: Amen.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: Well, I'll tell you how this soap business came about.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: So he was yeah, he was we were down in Texas visiting, you know, family and stuff, and we were at a little market, and there was a lady there who was selling soap, and he's a hippie, okay, and he loves to just buy, loves to just buy local stuff, and that's great.
- 23:16SPEAKER_03: So anyway, he's smelling the soap and everything, and he's like, I bet I can make this.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I bet you can.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: And so literally that weekend, we're at the store buying all the things that we need for him.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: I was like, Oh, we're really doing this?
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: And I was like, okay, well, as long as um the soap smells good because I don't want it to smell like medicine and like plants.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: And he was like, Okay, so that's how that came about.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: And now here we are.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: And how long ago was this?
- 23:53SPEAKER_04: I I don't remember.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: We started December.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: We we started making our own soap.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: I taught myself how to make soap, and then from there we've gone through different formulas with different products or different ingredients to make it to where it's at now.
- 24:05SPEAKER_04: Very cool.
- 24:06SPEAKER_04: So are you guys going to are you staying with soap or are you spoiler alert?
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: No, I'm just okay.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: Are you gonna go on the balms?
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: No, we've got beard balms.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Next are the deodorants.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: And then she's been asking for uh a whipped tallow like face cream, skin cream.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: So that's on the line, also.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: It's just finding time to to work out the formulas and make sure that the science, science, sciences, the science, science system, whatever word that is, what whatever plural or yeah, fine.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: Science is there.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Worked it hard for me.
- 24:45SPEAKER_04: So um, let's see, I want to do one more question, and then we'll we'll kind of wrap up.
- 24:52SPEAKER_04: So you've both spent parts of your life serving inside organizations larger than yourselves.
- 24:57SPEAKER_04: Now the mission belongs to you.
- 24:59SPEAKER_04: And I I love this.
- 25:01SPEAKER_04: How has entrepreneurship changed what each of you believes service actually means?
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: I don't think service has changed as far as the meaning goes.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: Our our goal is still to serve people and help make their lives better.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: And that's one bar at a time.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: I think as you can attest, you've used our soap.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Our soap is different than other people's soap.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: Not just for the longevity aspect, because as as we talked about, your soap's lasting long, but that's done on purpose.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Everything that we do is on purpose, and there's a meaning behind it, which translates to serving people and making sure that their hard-earned dollar is not being wasted on a bar that's going to dissolve in in a couple days.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: So service hasn't changed, our view mindset hasn't changed, just the mission has it.
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: The mission is now giving out a good bar of soap.
- 25:58SPEAKER_04: I I love it.
- 25:59SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 26:00SPEAKER_04: So would you would you say Let me let me go back one step?
- 26:06SPEAKER_04: Is the is the long-term mission to make this a very large company, or are you gonna stay small and niche?
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: I want to stay small but large, if that makes sense.
- 26:19SPEAKER_04: A small field but a large enough company.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: To where we can only focus on soap.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: Like we can wake up, take care of ourselves, i.e., work out, spend time with the kids, the dogs, do what we have to do, but soap is our main priority.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely love it.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: Misty, do you want to add anything on that?
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, that's our goal is to be able to actually concentrate on soap a hundred percent.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: You know, either one of us or both of us can actually really retire and and concentrate on soap.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: That would be really nice.
- 26:53SPEAKER_04: I think you guys both at some point.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, hopefully.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, sorry.
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, hopefully.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: No, the the goal is always both of us that way.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: I said I've already got one retirement down.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: She's working on her retirement.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: The goal is stay small but be big.
- 27:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
