- 0:50the beats per minute yay

- 0:54free things go off
- 0:56Yeah,
- 0:57I found a really good site that I pay
- 0:59a subscription to.
- 1:01Of course.
- 1:01It's great music.
- 1:03Which one is it?
- 1:03Is it Artlist or Epidemic Sound?
- 1:07Artlist.
- 1:08Artlist, yeah.
- 1:09Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09You've been in that media room, baby.
- 1:10You've heard them.
- 1:11That's where they get it.
- 1:12And by they, I mean everybody.
- 1:14Yeah.
- 1:15Tyler, where you at?
- 1:16You got a sexy accent wall behind you?
- 1:18I know that ain't your office.
- 1:20Oh, yeah.
- 1:21That's your home office or
- 1:22your office office?
- 1:23home office oh okay you
- 1:25didn't do that your lady
- 1:26did that oh yeah that's
- 1:29right uh hey before we get
- 1:31into this dude I i pop into
- 1:32the chat and I listen to
- 1:34all the things y'all are
- 1:34doing and I reminisced a
- 1:36whole bunch last week we
- 1:37were going back and forth
- 1:38about like getting back on
- 1:39stuff dude the progression
- 1:40of first like quarter of
- 1:43scotty doing these things and like
- 1:46to now, even with the graphic,
- 1:47just watching the graphic roll in,
- 1:49I hope you walk real slow
- 1:51and realize the leaps and bounds, dog,
- 1:54and the authority you are
- 1:55in the space and all the things.
- 1:56I love it.
- 1:58And being able to be as
- 2:00close as I have been and
- 2:01you and I have stayed,
- 2:03it's very cool to watch, man.
- 2:04So I love it, Bubba.
- 2:05You're doing a great job.
- 2:07It's been a crazy week, you know,
- 2:09when your shit gets clipped
- 2:11and put out on, like, the big dogs page.
- 2:14That's it.
- 2:15And your shit blows up all week.
- 2:18It's been crazy.
- 2:20You're a big dog, bud.
- 2:21Look, you're in the room for a reason.
- 2:24Don't think you're a little
- 2:25dog in the room.
- 2:25You're one of the big dogs.
- 2:27Yeah, I might be like a lab, but, like,
- 2:29that dude's like Great Dane.
- 2:32That's America's dog, Scott, okay?
- 2:34Labs and golden retrievers.
- 2:36There you go.
- 2:38Well, before we get into it too much,
- 2:41Corey Leonard texts me.
- 2:42He's like,
- 2:43after dark means like after dark,
- 2:45not afternoon.
- 2:45It's always dark in our hearts, baby.
- 2:48It's always dark in our hearts.
- 2:50After dark came about back
- 2:52in the day when we were
- 2:54first getting started and
- 2:55we'd bring decks on and you
- 2:57pull the string and you
- 2:59never knew where you were going.
- 3:01It was kind of a warning to the crowd.
- 3:05This ain't your normal Clydesdale podcast.
- 3:07I joked with my buddy.
- 3:08I was like, it was like, uh,
- 3:09my mom would never let me
- 3:10watch BET after dark.
- 3:11Cause it was,
- 3:12you never knew what you were
- 3:13going to get back on like
- 3:14tip drill videos were on
- 3:15there and it was uncensored.
- 3:16That's right.
- 3:17So yeah, that's right.
- 3:18That's on brand baby.
- 3:21Yeah.
- 3:21Corey said it's definitely
- 3:22after dark in our hearts.
- 3:24Oh, yeah.
- 3:24For sure.
- 3:26Oh, Corey.
- 3:27My dude.
- 3:27Dude,
- 3:30I cannot let the two of you get together.
- 3:32No.
- 3:32We talk on Instagram way
- 3:33more now after that initial
- 3:36day where we just kind of popped on.
- 3:38But it's, yeah, he's funny, man.
- 3:41If we got you two on,
- 3:42it'd be Cinemax after dark.
- 3:44Jesus Christ.
- 3:47That's for the old people.
- 3:48We're dating ourselves now for sure.
- 3:50Yeah.
- 3:50is that even a thing well
- 3:51before streaming services
- 3:53that was when you had to
- 3:54pay for it the extra cable
- 3:56add-on that's it now like
- 3:59cinemax and hbo combined to
- 4:00one thing and yeah that's
- 4:02not you know what you know
- 4:03what it don't hurt me I
- 4:04love it because you know
- 4:05I'm a proponent of the uh
- 4:07plus size fitness people uh
- 4:09and clydesdale people your
- 4:11your name me and chris
- 4:12walker I told you when we first
- 4:13When I first met you,
- 4:14that was always our thing,
- 4:15like Clydesdale, whatever.
- 4:16He was on the Maximus team with me.
- 4:17And then whoever keeps sponsoring this,
- 4:19Thick Boy,
- 4:20I finally found him on
- 4:20Instagram after like the
- 4:21second time I saw it.
- 4:23Like, well, all these things I'm missing.
- 4:24I always joke with people
- 4:25like my Instagram could
- 4:26have been like Dextral Healing.
- 4:28And I missed the boat there
- 4:29because now it's just my name.
- 4:30Right?
- 4:30See?
- 4:31Really missed the boat there.
- 4:32But yeah, dude,
- 4:33there's so many cool brands.
- 4:35And like when you started this,
- 4:36I text Chris.
- 4:37I was like, we missed the boat, boy.
- 4:39We really could have capitalized.
- 4:40But Thick Boy is good.
- 4:41Yeah.
- 4:43Yeah.
- 4:44It's funny.
- 4:45Again,
- 4:46trolls will switch it to whatever
- 4:48they want to,
- 4:49and it's all fine and good
- 4:50and whatever because I'm
- 4:52just loving life.
- 4:53Yeah, you're doing great, dude.
- 4:56You're doing it.
- 4:57But you need a platform, right?
- 4:59You haven't been out there in a while.
- 5:01There's a whole lot of shit
- 5:02going on in this CrossFit
- 5:06thing that we got going on.
- 5:08And I want to give you that
- 5:09platform again.
- 5:10So we're bringing back after dark.
- 5:12So Dex, you go, man.
- 5:15What did I text you after
- 5:16the Sean thing broke?
- 5:17As Sean thing.
- 5:18Yep.
- 5:18Well, you've been texting me a lot lately.
- 5:21We just finally said, let's,
- 5:23let's get this thing going.
- 5:24Cause we've been trying to get to,
- 5:25we usually have gotten together more than,
- 5:27you know,
- 5:28online at this point in the year,
- 5:29I didn't make it to either
- 5:30semifinal this year.
- 5:31And I had an athlete in the West, uh,
- 5:34had some, you know, our bigger,
- 5:36bigger athlete people in Tennessee.
- 5:38which was an easy drive.
- 5:39We just didn't disperse.
- 5:41And I was super spoiled.
- 5:42I've been pumped since 2015
- 5:45to be a Masters athlete,
- 5:46so getting to do everything
- 5:46at home and then kind of a
- 5:49perfect storm of starting a
- 5:50new job at Iron Tribe,
- 5:52which we'll get into that bag,
- 5:53especially with recent
- 5:54developments and a bunch of
- 5:56stuff going on at CrossFit.
- 5:58Yeah, it was just a weird storm.
- 6:00I've been blowing your phone
- 6:01up because I miss you.
- 6:02Let me love on you.
- 6:04And every time Charlie
- 6:04starts posting sneaker stuff again,
- 6:06I'll give him stuff about, like,
- 6:07socks matching and wearing
- 6:08mids and stuff like that.
- 6:10Well,
- 6:10I had a media pass for you in Knoxville.
- 6:12I know, bro.
- 6:14I know.
- 6:14I know.
- 6:15I had babies.
- 6:17I made the call.
- 6:18I even made the call.
- 6:20I know.
- 6:20I'm the worst, dude.
- 6:22That was weird.
- 6:23It was a good weekend, though.
- 6:24And I hate, again, to go watch the events.
- 6:27I love the events this year.
- 6:28uh but yeah dude uh so
- 6:30before you get rolling
- 6:31though I do have a three
- 6:32o'clock meeting and that's
- 6:34your time oh yeah we're
- 6:36gonna be short and sweet
- 6:36baby I didn't know we were
- 6:37going live uh and I just
- 6:39wanted to love on y'all a
- 6:39little bit and then talk
- 6:41about like them cleaning
- 6:41house again right like I
- 6:42feel like me and you've
- 6:43been through two waves of
- 6:44feeling the effects of that
- 6:45stuff man and I got on
- 6:47there on sean's post the
- 6:48other day right because
- 6:48that was kind of a
- 6:49bombshell to me because
- 6:51it'd be like if before john
- 6:52madden died he was like hey
- 6:53peace out guys I'm not
- 6:54doing commentary anymore
- 6:56right or like um you know
- 6:58Harry Caray and baseball and
- 7:00stuff like that.
- 7:01Uh, just like staple names, right.
- 7:03No matter the venue or the
- 7:04sport or anything like that.
- 7:05And I remember like, you know,
- 7:07kind of seeing the fear
- 7:08wash over people or not fear, just like,
- 7:11uh, what the hell do I do now?
- 7:12Like before Hebrew and them
- 7:13had buttery bros and all those people,
- 7:15right.
- 7:15Uh, when they kind of cleaned house and,
- 7:17uh,
- 7:17all that kind of worked itself out for
- 7:18a smaller group.
- 7:19And then, you know,
- 7:20those people went off to have, you know,
- 7:22a bigger deal personally than,
- 7:23than what they had.
- 7:24But like, dude,
- 7:25being around the brand for so long,
- 7:26I mean, I've been,
- 7:27I started, hell, what was it?
- 7:30Mobile got me into this with
- 7:31our family in 2010,
- 7:33summer for my senior year of college,
- 7:34senior year of football.
- 7:36And I never left,
- 7:38never been able to put it down.
- 7:39Like, I've tried.
- 7:41that year I just did media
- 7:42was like the only year I
- 7:43haven't like full speed, you know,
- 7:45done it just did something I loved.
- 7:46And like you slowly but
- 7:48surely see things that were staples,
- 7:51right?
- 7:51Like the Greg stuff is what it is.
- 7:52Like Greg's always been the
- 7:54mouth and not scared to say stuff.
- 7:56I'm like, yeah,
- 7:56it's the most poorly timed.
- 7:57And there was some stuff
- 7:57that comes out that was, you know,
- 7:59insane and frowned upon.
- 8:00Cool.
- 8:00But like, um, and then the Dave stuff,
- 8:03but like starting to clean
- 8:04it so much where like the
- 8:05voice of the sport, bro, like,
- 8:07And I know everybody wants
- 8:08to bitch about the
- 8:09separation of church and
- 8:10state and the sport is not the community,
- 8:12but the storytelling of the
- 8:15sport is a huge deal for
- 8:16the connection to the community.
- 8:20You might not throw games
- 8:21footage into your affiliate
- 8:22lobby where Susie's coming
- 8:25in here to lose 150 pounds
- 8:25and she just wants to be
- 8:27able to stand up off her
- 8:28couch and stuff real easy
- 8:29and play with the kids and
- 8:30continue to do that and
- 8:31live independently.
- 8:33But it's always been a thing to aspire to,
- 8:35right?
- 8:35Like old dudes play flag football.
- 8:37I don't mean to try and go to the NFL,
- 8:38but they still watch it.
- 8:39They still love it.
- 8:40It gives you some feel goods
- 8:41and some aspiration and some, you know,
- 8:43something to work to.
- 8:45But pulling the storytellers
- 8:46away is so weird to me, dude.
- 8:47That's why I put that thing up yesterday.
- 8:49Like we're all just the
- 8:49violin guy that decided to
- 8:52keep playing as the Titanic sinks now.
- 8:53And I text Tommy about it.
- 8:54I was like, dude,
- 8:54what the hell is going on?
- 8:56And nobody knows.
- 8:57And I didn't see that.
- 8:58I just saw that Nikki's not
- 8:59doing it either.
- 8:59I imagine like, because I'm used to like,
- 9:02Josh and G's the homie.
- 9:04Brenton, dude, like they, you know,
- 9:06have been different about
- 9:07like getting Brenton and
- 9:08those people out there.
- 9:09And so like,
- 9:10I hate to see when the
- 9:11decline seems very visible
- 9:13when they're talking about like, yeah,
- 9:14it's not for sale, but it is.
- 9:16And everybody's kind of
- 9:16playing hot potato with
- 9:17this thing that I've loved
- 9:19for so long and has loved me back,
- 9:20you know,
- 9:21has let me love on people like you,
- 9:22us loving each other,
- 9:23the relationships I've built,
- 9:23like it's always been my favorite part.
- 9:26And, you know,
- 9:26the health and wellness
- 9:27byproducts and all that stuff,
- 9:28but like the roots that run
- 9:29deeper to me have always
- 9:30been the relationships and
- 9:32the ability to give and
- 9:33receive love in a way that just,
- 9:35it's hard to find somewhere
- 9:36else in this realm, whether it's sports
- 9:38the affiliate in the
- 9:39community uh and so I hate
- 9:41feeling like that stuff
- 9:42because I mean you know me
- 9:43dude I'm a loud mouth uh
- 9:44the filter between my brain
- 9:45and mouth does not work
- 9:47often but when I get on
- 9:48these things and it's
- 9:49always been like hey
- 9:51crossfit's dying because
- 9:52those have been on youtube
- 9:52forever and I've always
- 9:54been like come to bat in a
- 9:56go to you tap out talking
- 9:57about it way right uh but
- 10:00it breaks my heart to be
- 10:01able to kind of like really see the
- 10:03feel like it's sinking slow
- 10:04because nobody knows who's
- 10:06going to kind of hold the
- 10:06keys to the car next year or year to year,
- 10:09what businessman is going
- 10:10to come in and try to run
- 10:11it like a tech company or whatever.
- 10:14And that breaks my heart, dude.
- 10:16And then where I currently
- 10:19have a job that has been 90
- 10:24days and the structure of this,
- 10:26the development, the follow through,
- 10:31all the things that I love about
- 10:33What we do and affiliates
- 10:35and stuff like that is here
- 10:37and the support from like a
- 10:39bigger company,
- 10:40a brand and all that stuff.
- 10:41The things that I used to
- 10:42really wish that like you
- 10:44consistently got from an HQ
- 10:46or stuff like that.
- 10:48You get to knit almost until
- 10:51by last weekend, we had coach con, um,
- 10:54in Birmingham with iron tribe and.
- 10:57My eyes have been open to it,
- 10:59to what this is,
- 11:00because this is functional fitness class.
- 11:02The structure is a little different.
- 11:03The business structure is a
- 11:03little different.
- 11:04It's not free market like Greg had.
- 11:06I mean, I guess it kind of is.
- 11:09Just the backing and the
- 11:10kind of the structure man
- 11:11is way different from a corporate level.
- 11:12There's no guessing game
- 11:14There's no hopes and wishes
- 11:15that it continues the next
- 11:16year right now.
- 11:17There's no season.
- 11:17There's no open semis games
- 11:20Because it's strictly let
- 11:21me peel 100 pounds off of you.
- 11:23Let me restore function Let
- 11:24me give you back to a full
- 11:25vacation with your kids and
- 11:26all that stuff in here And
- 11:27we're really really good at
- 11:28it from an objective
- 11:30results driven perspective
- 11:32and that's why I think all
- 11:34those things hit me a
- 11:35little heavier now because I
- 11:36I've been,
- 11:37and even in a devil's advocate way,
- 11:39when I've not been like a HQ advocate,
- 11:43I've been a, you know,
- 11:4410-year level one coach
- 11:46just because I didn't want
- 11:47to give any money because
- 11:48sometimes I didn't agree
- 11:48with how we were doing stuff.
- 11:51But, yeah, dude,
- 11:52it's been really weird to
- 11:53transition to something
- 11:54that is like but different
- 11:56and then at the same time
- 11:58seeing kind of the
- 11:59unraveling of things that I've loved,
- 12:00especially with like people
- 12:01I'm close with and chop it
- 12:02up with when we go to these events.
- 12:04So let me ask you this question.
- 12:06Everybody, like,
- 12:07I've gotten at least 20 DMs
- 12:10on this Sean Woodland thing.
- 12:12And everybody's saying, well,
- 12:13trimming the fat, cost cutting.
- 12:16That seems too easy to me.
- 12:19He doesn't make that much money.
- 12:20No.
- 12:22I know what most of them make per event.
- 12:26And I also noticed that,
- 12:30because I've heard from a reliable source,
- 12:33the team is going to be
- 12:33Chase and Adrian with Mike
- 12:35Garstow on the floor.
- 12:37Yeah.
- 12:37And dude, look, Chase and Adrian are, dude,
- 12:39Adrian is great.
- 12:40Adrian is the Tony Romo of it.
- 12:41And you know, I wanted to do that.
- 12:43I can't, Adrian is awesome.
- 12:45Him and Chase both.
- 12:46But they're both under
- 12:47contract with CrossFit
- 12:49because of the CrossFit podcast.
- 12:51Yeah.
- 12:52So they're a little bit
- 12:53under more control.
- 12:56then say you bring in a Sean
- 12:57Woodland from an outside
- 13:00media company to do this.
- 13:02He's not as much under control.
- 13:04Do you think it's more the
- 13:05control or more the money?
- 13:08It's got to be the money and
- 13:09maybe contractually, but like, I mean,
- 13:10you got to think we talked about,
- 13:13like Hebrew and Marston do,
- 13:14there's no telling how much
- 13:15more money they make from
- 13:17strictly a sponsorship standpoint, right?
- 13:18And you know that now,
- 13:19because you ride on some of them.
- 13:20That's how this whole thing floats, right?
- 13:22There's no telling how much
- 13:24more money they make doing
- 13:25their own thing.
- 13:26And Tommy and Sean have
- 13:27figured that out as well, right?
- 13:28Brought on Lauren.
- 13:29Lauren is professional,
- 13:31like to the utmost.
- 13:32And like, I know,
- 13:34I got a deeper look into
- 13:36what you're doing with both
- 13:36hands right now after doing
- 13:38Morning Chalk Up stuff with Lauren,
- 13:39right?
- 13:39Regardless of how that
- 13:40worked out under that brand,
- 13:42but seeing the
- 13:42professionalism that she
- 13:43brings to it coming out of
- 13:44the news world and that she's able to do.
- 13:46And the same thing,
- 13:47like it also makes me more
- 13:48impressed with the way
- 13:48you've picked it up bubble.
- 13:49Cause that ain't your background.
- 13:50Like you're not an anchor.
- 13:52Right.
- 13:52Um,
- 13:53that's why I always try to give you the
- 13:53flowers for it.
- 13:54But like Sean is the most
- 13:59professional for those things.
- 14:00They don't need to control Sean.
- 14:02Right.
- 14:02Uh, from a, from a, like the voice,
- 14:05the voice golden voice.
- 14:07Right.
- 14:08heartbeat of the community.
- 14:09He's been as deep in with HQ
- 14:10as anybody has been,
- 14:11like on the review shows, all the things.
- 14:14It just makes no sense to me.
- 14:15I understand bringing in new
- 14:16people and expanding the team, right?
- 14:18Especially with people like Adrian, bro.
- 14:19Adrian has his own programming company.
- 14:21He's not going to go do it for free,
- 14:23but like, you know,
- 14:24a lot of times when I got
- 14:26income coming from other places,
- 14:27as long as I'm not going to
- 14:28take a loss at the event,
- 14:29I want to come love on people,
- 14:30see the homies, take part, right?
- 14:32Because we all do genuinely love it.
- 14:34So if you can make it make sense,
- 14:36not make me rich, I'm with it.
- 14:38So that, like, I thought about that too.
- 14:40And Sean is not one that's like, like me,
- 14:43I understand why people
- 14:44don't harass me to go do stuff like that.
- 14:46I'm very regional addiction.
- 14:47We do a joke about that all the time.
- 14:48Like Forrest Gump ain't
- 14:49getting in the booth.
- 14:50And like,
- 14:51I get to talking fast and say wild stuff.
- 14:53It may not be cool on CBS or
- 14:54ESPN or whatever.
- 14:55We're all in that here, right?
- 14:56Now I could probably tone it
- 14:59down and get there.
- 15:00But I mean, dude, Adrian speaks fluent L1.
- 15:03and has a next level athlete
- 15:06experience for a ridiculous
- 15:08amount of years.
- 15:08Good looking dude, very well spoken,
- 15:11insanely intelligent depth
- 15:12of knowledge for not only
- 15:13like the strength and
- 15:14conditioning part of as a programmer,
- 15:15but also as an athlete itself,
- 15:16do you want athlete and all those things.
- 15:18Sean has that from a hockey background,
- 15:20like, and just,
- 15:21It's weird to me to cut the
- 15:23feet off of that when you
- 15:25have such an established thing, right?
- 15:26I mean,
- 15:26it's kind of like keeping a member
- 15:28is way cheaper than going
- 15:29to find a new one at a gym, right?
- 15:30So to me,
- 15:31that's the kind of turnover thing,
- 15:33which I didn't understand.
- 15:35Like media stuff, it's expensive, cool.
- 15:37But like the Sean stuff and
- 15:40like the whole production
- 15:40where they have to do the,
- 15:42like uh what'd they do last
- 15:43year had chase do it from a
- 15:44phone basically which chase
- 15:45didn't mind he did a great
- 15:46job I text him live while
- 15:48he's doing those things
- 15:48like god bless you on this
- 15:49event this is boring as
- 15:50hell but they always keep
- 15:51the ship afloat because
- 15:52they're pros and they know
- 15:53the game they know the game
- 15:55in the booth how to be
- 15:55professional with it what
- 15:56the people that do it are
- 15:57starting it and what if
- 15:58they're interested in it
- 15:59need to hear to get that
- 16:01engagement draw those
- 16:02people in and that that's
- 16:03what what kind of drives me
- 16:04crazy about all this stuff
- 16:05and I'm just a salty old man for it
- 16:08There's a lot of things that
- 16:08drive me crazy.
- 16:10One,
- 16:10I've known Sean since the late 90s as
- 16:13a sports broadcaster in Tallahassee,
- 16:14Florida, back in the day, right?
- 16:17Before CrossFit ever even was born,
- 16:22I watched him on TV.
- 16:24Sean has never said any
- 16:27phrase that ruffled a feather.
- 16:29Never.
- 16:29In the 12 years we've been doing this.
- 16:32Yeah.
- 16:33He has been straight down
- 16:34the fairway and Carolyn
- 16:36Prevost in the chat.
- 16:37She talks to me about how
- 16:40the athletes love him
- 16:41because he actually cares
- 16:44about the backstory of the
- 16:45athlete and tells that
- 16:47story as opposed to just
- 16:50what's happening in that moment.
- 16:52Right.
- 16:53And you need that.
- 16:54You need that fill in a long
- 16:56chipper workout.
- 16:58of what's going on with those athletes,
- 17:00right?
- 17:00Painful.
- 17:02He's so good at it.
- 17:03And it's so, like I said, like you said,
- 17:04it's not his first, second or 10th rodeo.
- 17:07And he's so thorough.
- 17:08His timing is so good.
- 17:09Like you can't train in
- 17:11someone to do that.
- 17:12That's why,
- 17:12like I joke about Adrian
- 17:13speaking fluent L1.
- 17:14Adrian is good at it because
- 17:16of that experience.
- 17:17And Adrian's roots in the
- 17:18sport are infinitely deep.
- 17:20I see people fuss sometimes
- 17:21in the comments and like
- 17:22they've even done it to me like,
- 17:23we want to hear people talk
- 17:24about this and not their
- 17:25athletic experience.
- 17:26Dude,
- 17:26what does Tony Romo do on a Monday night?
- 17:29Right?
- 17:29Like, what does Greg Olson do?
- 17:32Your relative experience is
- 17:33going to give you another
- 17:34layer into what athletes are thinking,
- 17:36regardless of sport.
- 17:38I hope someday they do it with Tiger Woods,
- 17:40if they can get him in the booth.
- 17:41I can't imagine the things
- 17:42or the nuances he can let you in on.
- 17:44And Sean's never been to the games,
- 17:46but Sean can do that.
- 17:48And I joke with people all the time,
- 17:49because everybody does,
- 17:52coaches who've never done it,
- 17:53Bill Belichick never threw a football,
- 17:54homie.
- 17:55But he's one of the greatest
- 17:56coaches to ever live.
- 17:57So you don't have to have that.
- 17:59And that's,
- 17:59Sean's so good at telling those stories,
- 18:01like you're saying.
- 18:02And that's why I'm partial
- 18:03to the former athletes.
- 18:04But like, yeah,
- 18:06Sean doesn't run for feathers.
- 18:07So it has to be,
- 18:08it's not a control thing to me.
- 18:09It has to be a money grab.
- 18:12But that makes me turn into
- 18:13like bigger picture things,
- 18:14like the direction of that company.
- 18:16And like,
- 18:16are we all like just holding this
- 18:17football on the table,
- 18:18hoping somebody takes it
- 18:19and runs with it?
- 18:20Like, so...
- 18:23I mentioned where I work now, Iron Tribe,
- 18:24right?
- 18:24So structure-wise, a lot of franchises,
- 18:27very Southeastern.
- 18:28It is not the numbers
- 18:30monster that affiliates are, right?
- 18:33But the fear, and I felt the issue,
- 18:34and I've talked about this, Scott,
- 18:36I should have opened the
- 18:36gym five years ago by myself, right?
- 18:39Product-wise, on the floor, cash money.
- 18:41The things that scare me,
- 18:42building the systems, building the brand,
- 18:44building the visibility,
- 18:46coming up with all the things,
- 18:47like I can get it
- 18:47conceptualized in my head,
- 18:49putting it to paper in a spreadsheet,
- 18:50and articulating it out to
- 18:51drive traffic and put the car together,
- 18:53so to speak, right?
- 18:54I always say I've driven the
- 18:55car for a lot of people.
- 18:57These things happen here in a seamless way,
- 19:01systems from...
- 19:03onboarding from coaches
- 19:05through a video series.
- 19:06Matt, what's Forrest's last name?
- 19:09Forrest Walden.
- 19:10Forrest Walden's the guy that founded it,
- 19:11right?
- 19:11And it's only funny because
- 19:12I used to be such a hater
- 19:13for it because the first
- 19:14CrossFit journal I ever
- 19:15read was this logo, nothing backwards,
- 19:18this logo powered by
- 19:19CrossFit in Birmingham.
- 19:20And it was a CrossFit
- 19:21journal about them suing
- 19:22them for doing what Jason did.
- 19:24And, you know,
- 19:25they end up slapping him on
- 19:25the wrist for NorCal stuff, right?
- 19:28Because we don't want you to franchise,
- 19:29yada, yada, yada.
- 19:31But dude...
- 19:33the system to support from
- 19:34start to build to you know
- 19:36to the clouds if you want to here
- 19:38It's something I joked before at CoachCon,
- 19:40right?
- 19:40And I said that term earlier.
- 19:42All the coaches for Iron
- 19:43Tribe went to Birmingham,
- 19:46had this weekend of development.
- 19:47Nobody paid for it.
- 19:48First form shows up.
- 19:49Sponsors show up.
- 19:50We all kick it together, work out,
- 19:51talk about our best practices, directions,
- 19:53State of the Union stuff.
- 19:54So it's not a hopeful
- 19:55YouTube channel we got or
- 19:57YouTube post we got from
- 19:58CrossFit that's probably
- 19:59not going to happen now.
- 19:59Like,
- 20:00they give Hiller the most shit in
- 20:02those things.
- 20:02And it's so weird to me.
- 20:04Like, me and you joked about that.
- 20:05I love Andrew.
- 20:06I've always been terrified
- 20:07of not being in the room
- 20:08and getting denied media passes and stuff,
- 20:10but I'm on board with most
- 20:10of the things he says and
- 20:11the spotlights he put on,
- 20:12because he's very informed.
- 20:13He's done a deeper dance with it,
- 20:14owning an affiliate and all
- 20:15those things than I have,
- 20:16so never been a hater.
- 20:18Some of it's kind of brash, but it's also,
- 20:19he has no problem telling
- 20:20you this for views.
- 20:21But I've done coaching
- 20:23development with people.
- 20:24I have done...
- 20:26many many many hours on the
- 20:28floor and all the things
- 20:30that are affiliate uh
- 20:32except on it and stood on
- 20:34the you know the nice edge
- 20:35of that uh just out of fear
- 20:36and that's something I'm
- 20:37getting over but uh doing
- 20:40this dude really made me
- 20:42eat some crow um and kind
- 20:44of take a look at the flow
- 20:45that we have been doing and
- 20:47I have friends who are our
- 20:48affiliate heads for their
- 20:49region right chase is one of them
- 20:51Andrew's one of them in North Central.
- 20:53And they're awesome dudes.
- 20:54They have very successful businesses.
- 20:55I think Chase sold Big D.
- 20:57Andrew's got an awesome
- 20:58affiliate and like takes
- 20:59nothing away from those.
- 21:00It's just hopes and wishes
- 21:01of like something that I
- 21:02love for so long and
- 21:04getting a different taste
- 21:04of it where it's same realm,
- 21:06just a different flavor.
- 21:08And it works, dog.
- 21:09Works consistently.
- 21:10And the stats say that over 10 years,
- 21:1110 years plus now.
- 21:14And so it made me go in
- 21:15deeper thinking of like the,
- 21:18the model they have for
- 21:19people and seeing people
- 21:20pass this hot potato around.
- 21:21Right.
- 21:22Um, so that's what worries me, man.
- 21:24I don't, I don't,
- 21:26I hope it doesn't go anywhere,
- 21:27especially since I just
- 21:28started masters and we got
- 21:29in on the first shot.
- 21:30And look, you said that the other night,
- 21:32if they took 20 decks,
- 21:33I would have went faster, Scott.
- 21:34Okay.
- 21:35I'm good in house.
- 21:36We just, we want to do just enough, baby,
- 21:38just enough to get in.
- 21:38We'll show all your cards.
- 21:40Um, as far as anybody knows,
- 21:42I just lift weights.
- 21:42I don't condition at all.
- 21:43That's why I joked on my
- 21:44post I put on last night, but
- 21:46um yeah we had you on the
- 21:47show going into the last
- 21:49two events and you were
- 21:51scared as hell with those
- 21:53last two events oh dude
- 21:54they were so good for me I
- 21:55pissed down my leg this
- 21:56time yeah me and marquand
- 22:00joked about the other day
- 22:01he was talking about
- 22:01testing semis workouts um
- 22:03and like we always joke
- 22:04about like people who are
- 22:05taking stuff and this that
- 22:06another and he was talking
- 22:08about testing one
- 22:09And I said the same thing.
- 22:10I was like, dude,
- 22:10I didn't repeat any of them.
- 22:11Cause I was like,
- 22:11these are home runs for me.
- 22:13Like muscle up, heavy front squat.
- 22:14Cool.
- 22:15I wish it was 275.
- 22:16No big deal.
- 22:17Cause I knew some people
- 22:18were going to get popped
- 22:18for standing up front
- 22:19squats and like front
- 22:21squats and muscle ups are cool for me,
- 22:23dude.
- 22:23I did not do that well on those.
- 22:24And I don't know if it was
- 22:25like an overconfidence thing or whatever.
- 22:27Kwan said the same thing.
- 22:28He said, yeah, I tested that workout.
- 22:29I was like, okay, cool.
- 22:30Respectable score.
- 22:32Takes a 20th at semis on the
- 22:34workout he was talking about.
- 22:34And he was like, that's when I was like,
- 22:36Yeah, well,
- 22:37it's more than protein shakes
- 22:38being drunk out here.
- 22:39So, but they, it's funny, man,
- 22:41just the progression of the game.
- 22:44My thing has always been to
- 22:45try to stay in it and check
- 22:47in to see if it's passed me
- 22:47by from a capacity level, right?
- 22:49Like I am in here.
- 22:51What you're saying, though,
- 22:52is people are adding creatine?
- 22:54Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:55It's just the most researched.
- 22:56Yeah, it's got to be.
- 22:57It's beam.
- 22:59It's beam is what it is.
- 23:00They're sleeping better.
- 23:01That's what it is.
- 23:01It's got to be.
- 23:03It's an ice bath.
- 23:04But they snort the beam is what I heard.
- 23:06It's the delivery is what it is.
- 23:08So it's a wild time.
- 23:09But I don't know, man.
- 23:12I love the game on every level, right?
- 23:14I'm coming in to be a healthy grandpa,
- 23:16grandma, mom, dad, brother, sister, wife,
- 23:17husband, whatever.
- 23:18and I love competing,
- 23:20and I want this thing to keep churning.
- 23:21I don't want to see the
- 23:22numbers drop on the
- 23:24affiliate map or any of those things,
- 23:26but I don't like being in
- 23:29the dark or wondering,
- 23:30and I don't think anybody does,
- 23:31and the more figureheads that fall,
- 23:33the more it feels like inevitability,
- 23:37and I hate that,
- 23:39so I don't want to see it go down, man.
- 23:41I've loved love this long,
- 23:42and I love football now,
- 23:43so it'll break my heart, but
- 23:44The version it'll go on
- 23:45right in some capacity.
- 23:47I just would like it to be
- 23:48the global community.
- 23:49It's always been.
- 23:50And not kind of wither away.
- 23:53Even when people are trying to grab it.
- 23:56I thought that front step
- 23:58squat muscle up workout was
- 23:59going to be great for me.
- 24:01My gravy gravy turned out to be burnt.
- 24:04Mine was tomato gravy, which nobody likes,
- 24:06right?
- 24:07That's old man gravy.
- 24:07If you're striking,
- 24:09if you say you like tomato gravy,
- 24:10you're born in 1936.
- 24:10But.
- 24:14Yeah, look, in-house, I love it, dude.
- 24:17Doing every stage in-house.
- 24:18Oh, that was so good.
- 24:19Slept in my own bed.
- 24:20Got to cook myself breakfast.
- 24:21Didn't have to go spend any money.
- 24:22It was beautiful.
- 24:24It might have been why I was
- 24:24lazy trying to get to Knoxville, Scott.
- 24:26I was spoiled.
- 24:26I'm a spoiled old man now.
- 24:28What I love about having you
- 24:30on is who the hell knows
- 24:32where we're going.
- 24:33That's why it's after dark, right?
- 24:34Because we don't know.
- 24:36So what is an appropriate
- 24:39number for masters?
- 24:40Because 40 for all the
- 24:42divisions is too many athletes.
- 24:45Okay.
- 24:45So I would say that if we
- 24:46were all one event,
- 24:48if it is its own event,
- 24:49I don't think 40 is too many.
- 24:51So now we can treat it like a real event.
- 24:52We can have heats, right?
- 24:55There's gap time in between the events.
- 24:56You can get a little sexy
- 24:57with the programming.
- 24:58What I didn't like when we
- 24:59were here another day,
- 25:00there was news to me.
- 25:01That's why I was in there
- 25:01like going crazy.
- 25:03I didn't realize everybody
- 25:04was shuffling stuff.
- 25:05I'm a gear whore.
- 25:05You know that.
- 25:06I want a sign.
- 25:07The whole reason I was
- 25:08pumped about this this year,
- 25:08I want a sign with my name on it.
- 25:10All my signs say Maximus or Move Fast,
- 25:11Lift Heavy or Romwod, Meat Squad,
- 25:14which I love.
- 25:15All of those people I've
- 25:16ever been on a team with,
- 25:16I love dearly except for
- 25:17one or two and they know who they are.
- 25:19But those are the signs.
- 25:20I want something to say Dex Hopkins.
- 25:23Well,
- 25:23you're going to have to wash it 17
- 25:25times to make it through the weekend.
- 25:27It might be a business card now.
- 25:29It might not be a sign, but like the,
- 25:31that's why I joked.
- 25:32Cause that 2015,
- 25:32the first year we went dog,
- 25:34I'm telling you the highlighter,
- 25:35orange and blue stuff.
- 25:36I took it home and washed it.
- 25:37And I worked at Maximus, right?
- 25:38I could wear that as coaching shirt.
- 25:40Well,
- 25:40I must've washed and dried that
- 25:41Reebok shirt and everything
- 25:43peeled off of it.
- 25:44Like it was just,
- 25:44they pressed it on with
- 25:45like the hotel iron before
- 25:46they came and gave it to us.
- 25:48And I loved all that.
- 25:49You couldn't tell me nothing about it.
- 25:50I wore those tights an
- 25:51unreasonable amount of times.
- 25:52But that's what somebody fussed over.
- 25:54They were like,
- 25:54Reebok colors are so much cooler.
- 25:56Yeah, you wasn't there.
- 25:58That neutral stuff was sexy.
- 25:59I'd wear that out somewhere.
- 26:00I don't like no bull shoes.
- 26:02The apparel is Lulu, basically.
- 26:05For the spectator,
- 26:06we could tell who was who.
- 26:07Yeah, okay.
- 26:09That was a valid point.
- 26:11I get that.
- 26:11But also...
- 26:13Now we can wear whatever shoes we want.
- 26:14At some point, I'm going to wear Jordan's.
- 26:16So you look for me anyway.
- 26:17You're the homie.
- 26:18Charlie's looking for me.
- 26:19We can pick my shoes out.
- 26:20Well,
- 26:20you're taller than everybody else on
- 26:22the floor.
- 26:22You're easy to find.
- 26:23Also that, yes.
- 26:24I've been waiting on the
- 26:26dunk contest event.
- 26:28But, yeah, dude,
- 26:28so I don't – bring it back around.
- 26:30I don't think 40 is too many
- 26:31if it's a standalone event.
- 26:34I'm excited to see what
- 26:36Brock and them do in
- 26:37Michigan with the team games.
- 26:39If you've ever been to the pit.
- 26:40Did you ever make it out to the pit?
- 26:42I have not.
- 26:43Dude, it's his setup.
- 26:45I knew last year,
- 26:47I took one of my athletes, Anna Meredith,
- 26:48out there.
- 26:49She won it the year before the JV.
- 26:51Did well in varsity last year.
- 26:53But it's, God, it's so good, dude.
- 26:55But infrastructure-wise,
- 26:56there's only so many places
- 26:57to take a poop,
- 26:59and that would be a huge problem, right?
- 27:00It'd be like Woodstock.
- 27:01Everybody would be out there
- 27:01sleeping in the mud and plus.
- 27:03Jamie went there last year
- 27:05and said they got to do
- 27:09something about seating and
- 27:11infrastructure.
- 27:12It's impossible.
- 27:13It's only going to be at the pit one day.
- 27:14The rest is in Kalamazoo.
- 27:16Dude, I'm telling you,
- 27:18the things they can do at the pit, dog,
- 27:21it's sexy.
- 27:22I mean, I need to text Brock.
- 27:24We haven't talked.
- 27:25It's been a weird year, but like
- 27:27Dude, the pit is sexy,
- 27:29and that's what I said,
- 27:30because Boz was creeping
- 27:31around last year.
- 27:31I was like, hey, what you doing here?
- 27:33I know what y'all about to do.
- 27:34And I prayed Masters wasn't
- 27:35going to do it.
- 27:36And then the more they got into it,
- 27:37the more I was cool with it
- 27:38because of the pageantry, right?
- 27:40Like, I've been on teams.
- 27:41I've been the stepchild.
- 27:42Your events are on the
- 27:43chopping block for time.
- 27:45And the Masters stuff,
- 27:46I didn't want to be the same way.
- 27:49But it being its own standalone event,
- 27:50and Jason Grubbs, you know,
- 27:52I think feels the same way.
- 27:52He was excited about it.
- 27:53And to me,
- 27:53he's like the guy that pulls that wagon.
- 27:56And he was just at a brew
- 27:57camp in Jacksonville.
- 27:58I love Jason Grubbs, like, and everything.
- 28:00YouTube channel, great person, like,
- 28:02one of the most coachable people ever.
- 28:04Love the cat.
- 28:06And so we got to chop it up about it,
- 28:08and it changed my mind about it.
- 28:09And then last year, I was at NFC, right?
- 28:11Like,
- 28:11Masters Fitness Collective was awesome.
- 28:14And like Ron and his lady run it.
- 28:16I want to say mostly his lady.
- 28:17Ron's the shake hands and kiss babies guy.
- 28:19He's the model out there.
- 28:20Pretty boy Ron.
- 28:22But I thought that was going to be it.
- 28:23And that's why I went and
- 28:24did that event because I'd
- 28:25never done Legends.
- 28:27But, you know,
- 28:28in the leagues and things happen, dude.
- 28:29It's funny to see people get
- 28:30stirred up about that.
- 28:32Like, who cares?
- 28:33It happens.
- 28:33People are people and
- 28:34they're going to help the homies out.
- 28:35Like, it's not unethical or whatever.
- 28:37You'd be crazy not to, I guess.
- 28:39But I thought because it's
- 28:41its own standalone thing,
- 28:43it'll be a little sexier.
- 28:45When we were talking about
- 28:45the other night about like
- 28:47sponsors dipping in and out
- 28:49and the bag being a little
- 28:50less as far as like, you know, the cool,
- 28:52here's my gear picture.
- 28:53I didn't realize that like
- 28:57Go-Ruck pulled out of that
- 28:58and it was just Northern
- 28:59Lights and all that stuff.
- 29:01And so, you know, which is cool,
- 29:03like qualifying and the
- 29:04stuff that comes with that
- 29:05is cool enough for me.
- 29:07I got enough workout apparel and shoes.
- 29:10By God, I got enough shoes.
- 29:12It's a,
- 29:13I just want the experience for the
- 29:15fastest growing demographic
- 29:16and make no mistake.
- 29:17And then working here is
- 29:19letting me know even more.
- 29:20So the fastest growing demographic in that,
- 29:23as more information comes
- 29:24out about longevity and
- 29:25your ability to maintain
- 29:26muscle mass and live
- 29:27independently and metabolic
- 29:28disease and all this stuff,
- 29:30the more of those things come out,
- 29:31the more that it's actually
- 29:32a lifeboat to the people that need it,
- 29:33dog, that are the closest to it,
- 29:35not 18 and 19-year-olds, right?
- 29:36Like 30-plus, 35,
- 29:3840-plus-year-olds that are
- 29:39now trying to take a hold
- 29:40of their health and move into a healthy,
- 29:42functional retirement and
- 29:43want to live by themselves
- 29:44and wipe their own ass
- 29:44their whole life and not
- 29:46have to be in a home.
- 29:48It seems more logical to me
- 29:50to service that community.
- 29:51And again,
- 29:52games as church and state from
- 29:53the community, I get that.
- 29:55But those are the folks who
- 29:57are going to spend the
- 29:58money to come watch.
- 29:59They're going to take PTO.
- 30:01If they got PTO,
- 30:01they might be retired already.
- 30:03Right.
- 30:03Like, and so, and they like, uh,
- 30:07me and Jared talk about
- 30:07this all the time.
- 30:08Uh, almost like comp training,
- 30:10proven Jared,
- 30:11everybody's damn proven right now.
- 30:13Um, but you know,
- 30:15he put up something today
- 30:16about like elite marathoners.
- 30:18Like sometimes I've still on
- 30:19track athletes, cover the travel,
- 30:20cover the shoes and all this stuff.
- 30:21Like I'm not naive to that, man.
- 30:23Like,
- 30:24This is not going to be the NFL.
- 30:25It's fine.
- 30:26There's opportunities out there,
- 30:27but for a very select few,
- 30:28and me and you are homies
- 30:29with some of those people
- 30:30that are the select few
- 30:31that make the bag.
- 30:33But here's the deal.
- 30:35I'm cool with you only
- 30:36giving out three shirts and
- 30:37three pairs of shorts.
- 30:38Yeah,
- 30:39but let me wear whatever else I want
- 30:40after that.
- 30:41But don't require them to
- 30:43wear it at every event then
- 30:44for 12 events.
- 30:47Yeah, I will say that about Reebok.
- 30:48As much as I was not a fan
- 30:50of a lot of their stuff, boy,
- 30:51you couldn't wear...
- 30:53So year to year,
- 30:54this is a funny kind of weird point,
- 30:56right?
- 30:562015 to 17 is when like
- 30:58stance socks got sexy, right?
- 30:59Charlie remembers this, sneaker guy.
- 31:01So stance socks were cool.
- 31:03The first year I went in
- 31:052015 is when they gave you
- 31:06like cool high top socks, all that stuff.
- 31:09People were still wearing stance socks.
- 31:10And if you went then,
- 31:12you couldn't wear a
- 31:13different kind of underwear
- 31:14that wasn't Reebok.
- 31:14If you wore Nike underwear,
- 31:15you had to put your Reebok
- 31:16tights over it.
- 31:17Right.
- 31:18Uh, nothing had to all be re-bought,
- 31:20which is awesome.
- 31:21Title sponsor, re-bought CrossFit games,
- 31:22yada, yada, yada.
- 31:23I got to,
- 31:23but they gave you enough to get to,
- 31:25they gave you $6,500 worth of stuff.
- 31:28I don't know that I was not
- 31:29joking that I wrote it off
- 31:30of my taxes that year.
- 31:32Um, but yeah, if you're going to limit it,
- 31:36cause I did not wear all
- 31:37that stuff that weekend could not have,
- 31:39unless I like changed,
- 31:41like in walks between events.
- 31:43And then 2017 was the same thing.
- 31:45They gave out ankle socks
- 31:46and tall white tube socks
- 31:48to like punish everybody.
- 31:50It was funny.
- 31:51Which is fine now.
- 31:52Tall white socks are sexy.
- 31:53But they, you know,
- 31:54it was a different time.
- 31:55The stand socks were cool.
- 31:56So that's how they kind of
- 31:57punished everybody.
- 31:58I still joke with Tal about
- 31:59that way down the road, man.
- 32:01But it's, you know,
- 32:03and that's just another like big shift,
- 32:04dude.
- 32:04Like I used to joke with
- 32:06people about like CrossFit saving Reebok.
- 32:09It never did.
- 32:11I never knew that Reebok and
- 32:12Adidas were basically the same company,
- 32:13which is hilarious to see
- 32:14Adidas make such an
- 32:15aggressive push in Europe.
- 32:18That was a lot,
- 32:19because some of those
- 32:20people had just signed with
- 32:20other shoe companies,
- 32:21and they're out there wearing Gazelles.
- 32:23I was waiting for somebody
- 32:25to wear the Run DMC joints,
- 32:27but nobody's shoe culture.
- 32:28You're a shoe guy, right?
- 32:30Adidas has made a massive push.
- 32:33No, Adidas still puts out bangers.
- 32:35Adidas still looks good.
- 32:38Joel just reviewed that Drop Zero,
- 32:40I think it's called.
- 32:41The only Adidas I got are Yeezys.
- 32:44I don't know if I can say
- 32:46that on here now.
- 32:46That's the only Adidas I have.
- 32:48Joel loved the fitness shoe
- 32:50they came out with.
- 32:56I think they've had it for a while.
- 32:57And for a long time,
- 32:58everybody wore out-of-power lifters,
- 32:59right?
- 33:00They were the authority.
- 33:01Basically,
- 33:01it was them and Romaleos and
- 33:03weightlifting.
- 33:03And then, of course, in CrossFit,
- 33:04it comes out, right?
- 33:05Because that old out-of-power, honestly,
- 33:07it was like you could do
- 33:08box jumps and it was kind of floppy.
- 33:09But, yeah, dude, and look,
- 33:12I love Go-Ruck stuff.
- 33:13I think I thought that was a
- 33:14cool move and it's a bigger
- 33:15company to where, like,
- 33:16CrossFit's not their bread and butter.
- 33:17And that's always been a
- 33:18better relationship to me when, like,
- 33:20it's not your bread and
- 33:21butter so you don't have to
- 33:22make risky decisions, right?
- 33:24I was waiting on the bubble
- 33:24to pop for no bull like
- 33:26that venture capitalist
- 33:27money to run out for a long time.
- 33:29Just because like,
- 33:30I feel like most brands that,
- 33:32and this is only like my
- 33:32experience like Romwod, right?
- 33:34There was a certain point
- 33:35where you stopped seeing
- 33:35that word because they did
- 33:36not want to be tied just to CrossFit,
- 33:38right?
- 33:39It kind of puts a ceiling on
- 33:40your ability to scale.
- 33:42So all you started seeing, if you remember,
- 33:43is that RW logo, the circle, right?
- 33:45Wu-Tang, but it's a,
- 33:48A lot of people don't like
- 33:49being tied to it like that.
- 33:50And so that's why I was cool
- 33:52with No Ruck and Go Ruck.
- 33:53And if you saw how they
- 33:54inserted themselves in the space, dude,
- 33:55they are giving awesome
- 33:56work to media people.
- 33:59They were setting up huge booths.
- 34:00And you and I, now that's a big thing,
- 34:02open thing people are talking about,
- 34:03how much it costs to just
- 34:04be present at an event and
- 34:06all those things.
- 34:07And they did it right, dude.
- 34:08They got in and assimilated
- 34:09to the community.
- 34:11Hey,
- 34:11now we're going to write that big check.
- 34:12And again, Ryan Schultz, my dog,
- 34:14let me look behind the
- 34:15Wizard of Oz curtain.
- 34:15I know how much that check is.
- 34:16It's a lot.
- 34:18And so that's why I was cool.
- 34:19Like when they're like, Oh,
- 34:20masters games in Birmingham.
- 34:21I was like, Oh God,
- 34:22I get to cook breakfast in my kitchen,
- 34:23sleep in my bed,
- 34:24get some noble or some go-ruck stuff.
- 34:27Um, but I don't know.
- 34:29I text everybody and ask
- 34:30them how that Northern light stuff was.
- 34:31It was real, real mixed review.
- 34:33So we'll see.
- 34:35Um, but I agree.
- 34:36If I go, you don't give me three shirts,
- 34:38I need to be able to sell
- 34:39the windshield like Ricky Bobby.
- 34:40But now we, now we can make some money.
- 34:42All right, let me,
- 34:43Let me throw a little
- 34:44temporary tattoo on or something like, oh,
- 34:45the price is right, a permanent tattoo.
- 34:47I don't know.
- 34:47Let's go crazy.
- 34:48I got an empty leg and arm I
- 34:49need to fill up.
- 34:50But it's still going to be fun, dude.
- 34:53Like, you know me.
- 34:53I'm going to go suck all the
- 34:54positivity out of it I can.
- 34:56get all the hugs and high
- 34:57fives and consensual chest
- 34:58bumps I can give out and
- 35:00then see the people I love being around,
- 35:01man.
- 35:02And it's more things for you
- 35:03to come and do and content stuff.
- 35:05And so everybody's going to
- 35:06get a cool piece of the pie.
- 35:07I just don't want the pie to
- 35:08go bad and not be any pie
- 35:10next year or the year after that.
- 35:12Right.
- 35:12So, yeah, that's my biggest thing.
- 35:14Like the masters are over
- 35:1750% of the open registrants.
- 35:20Yeah.
- 35:20Right.
- 35:21Like that number has not
- 35:23changed in five years.
- 35:25Yeah.
- 35:26And I don't want them shit on.
- 35:31We moved over here to Birmingham, right?
- 35:33No.
- 35:35Oh,
- 35:36tomorrow we find out if we're going to
- 35:37get to do behind the scenes
- 35:38of the Masters games.
- 35:41It might be up, dog.
- 35:41It might be up.
- 35:43You know what?
- 35:43I want to be fit enough for
- 35:45me and easy to have like a
- 35:46bird and magic rivalry.
- 35:47But we'll see.
- 35:50I haven't put that out there
- 35:51until right now, I guess.
- 35:52I should have left that in the brain, but.
- 35:54Yeah, I'd love to be fit enough,
- 35:55but there's some freaks in our thing.
- 35:56I'm hoping some people can't
- 35:57make that overseas travel, baby.
- 36:01I'm going to make a statement here.
- 36:03Probably get me in trouble,
- 36:04but I'm going to make it
- 36:05because I watch this sport.
- 36:08When you came in in 41st,
- 36:10I looked at people's videos ahead of you.
- 36:14see should people get popped
- 36:16or penalized so that my boy
- 36:18can get in oh yeah was easy
- 36:22columbus native hometown
- 36:24kid yeah big fan dude range
- 36:29of motion needs some work
- 36:31easy yes scott easy touch
- 36:34and go snatch 300 before it
- 36:35was cool his range of
- 36:36motion is fine I'll tell
- 36:37you what got him last year
- 36:39is the workout was weird
- 36:41but he was that well he was
- 36:42that rich as jim I ain't
- 36:44trying to go be I want the
- 36:45lights and I'm gonna record
- 36:45myself I ain't going to be
- 36:47around everybody looking
- 36:48that's crazy um but like
- 36:51dude he's a he's a staple
- 36:52in the sport right
- 36:52especially if like
- 36:53african-american community
- 36:54like I think back alex
- 36:56netty elizabeth akamali
- 36:57whom I still love I want
- 36:59him there I want him there
- 37:00but like you know I'm
- 37:02talking about like better
- 37:03than his during this
- 37:05No,
- 37:05I know exactly who got popped for me
- 37:06because I texted him
- 37:07immediately when he dropped out.
- 37:08It was Chase Hill.
- 37:09They got him on standing up front squats,
- 37:10which Chase's range of motion,
- 37:12he can touch his ball back
- 37:13to the ground when he squats.
- 37:14It must have been like standing up.
- 37:15Chase is an incredibly fit,
- 37:16and the weight was not heavy enough.
- 37:18I don't think they really
- 37:18reviewed many videos, man.
- 37:19No, I don't think they did either.
- 37:21Yeah, dude, I can't.
- 37:22Me and him texted about it, and I was like,
- 37:23oh, shit,
- 37:23they're going to give you an appeal, dog.
- 37:25But I was in like 36th for a whole day,
- 37:28and then they must have
- 37:28gave some people a appeal
- 37:30or something like that.
- 37:31But no, dude,
- 37:31I think in-house stuff is
- 37:33in-house stuff for sure.
- 37:35I did Masters Fitness
- 37:36Collective last year.
- 37:36That was probably the best
- 37:37I've ever felt competing in person.
- 37:39So that's why I was, you know,
- 37:40I was pumped about the
- 37:41season and I waited long
- 37:42enough to start striking
- 37:43matches to seal the turn
- 37:44from Ben Bergeron.
- 37:45I only got so many to strike.
- 37:46So I waited a while to start
- 37:47striking matches and
- 37:48training and like getting
- 37:49emotionally involved with
- 37:50it and day to day.
- 37:52And this is probably the
- 37:53best I've ever felt leading
- 37:55into a season and throughout, right?
- 37:56Normally do when I get to semifinals,
- 37:58I'm so burnt out from being
- 37:59a psychopath and emotional
- 38:00ups and downs and thinking
- 38:01every day has got to be perfect.
- 38:02And so there's been a big
- 38:04kind of maturity process in
- 38:05me athletically at 35, but it's, uh,
- 38:08it's been good, man.
- 38:09And as the guy, you know,
- 38:10I've worked with a few coaches.
- 38:12I love Jason Layden.
- 38:13We made huge progress, dude.
- 38:14And,
- 38:14and L is one of the coaches on brute
- 38:16with brute with me,
- 38:17who is an absolute genius.
- 38:18Like, you know,
- 38:19I thought Kelsey had an awesome year.
- 38:21Danielle's having a really good year.
- 38:22He coaches her.
- 38:23And he does the same with me, dude.
- 38:24And I'm,
- 38:25I'm older and wiser and he does
- 38:26not beat me to death.
- 38:27And it's a minimal dose,
- 38:28maximum effectiveness stuff.
- 38:29So I thought,
- 38:31I think it's going to be a good year and,
- 38:33and easy, like deserves to be there.
- 38:34He's always been really fit
- 38:35when he wants to be like,
- 38:36he took some years off, but,
- 38:38Dude, he's been fit for a long time,
- 38:40and so it's going to be really fun.
- 38:42I didn't realize Bronislav was in 35-39.
- 38:43I want to say Morad's going to do it.
- 38:47He pulled out at Knoxville,
- 38:49so I'm not sure what the
- 38:50reason was for that.
- 38:51So I talked to him before
- 38:53that week ended up,
- 38:54and he said depending on
- 38:55what they find and
- 38:57depending on what they
- 38:58announce is the prize money for it.
- 39:00Oh, shit.
- 39:01Well, he ain't coming.
- 39:03What was it?
- 39:03It's the same as it's always been.
- 39:05$25,000 to win.
- 39:08If he's healthy.
- 39:09What'd he do?
- 39:11He was having an MRI the next day.
- 39:14He's so strong.
- 39:15He's so strong and moves so well.
- 39:17Uh-oh.
- 39:24Someone cut Dex's cord.
- 39:27I didn't think anybody could do that.
- 39:28I thought that was me this time.
- 39:31No, it's, it's deck.
- 39:33There we go.
- 39:36We got it back.
- 39:37Was that me?
- 39:38Yep.
- 39:39Oh, my bad.
- 39:40The internet here is dodgy when it rains.
- 39:42Um, but we'll move so well, dude,
- 39:44it's weird for him to have, I'm not,
- 39:45I wish I was joking.
- 39:45This is like dead ass here.
- 39:47Uh, he moves so well.
- 39:48It's weird.
- 39:48And he's been doing it for so long.
- 39:50It's weird for him to have
- 39:50like a nitpicky injury like that.
- 39:52Uh, he's so strong though.
- 39:54Um,
- 39:55But yeah, it'll be fun, dude.
- 39:55I think the field is very cool to me,
- 39:58just looking at the host of characters.
- 40:00I don't know a lot of them,
- 40:00but like the Wills and
- 40:01Bronislaw and Easy's been in there.
- 40:04It'll be cool for me to go
- 40:05have a whole lot of give a
- 40:06shit for an individual
- 40:06competition finally.
- 40:08And now we don't have to
- 40:09feel weird when we say Dex Hawkins,
- 40:10games athlete.
- 40:12I only did individual.
- 40:13I don't care if it's Masters.
- 40:14Suck it, everybody.
- 40:15Shawn Michaels, suck it, thanks.
- 40:17But it's going to be a fun weekend, dude.
- 40:20Mississippi's next door to Alabama,
- 40:21so most of the homies that
- 40:22have been along the ride
- 40:23with me the whole time I've
- 40:25done it will be able to come.
- 40:28So it's going to be a good time,
- 40:29and my little girls will be
- 40:30able to be there.
- 40:31So it'll be awesome,
- 40:32because they were at
- 40:34Syndicate last time I did Individual,
- 40:36not really able to yell, go daddy.
- 40:38But now they both can,
- 40:40and they're both little
- 40:41absolute psychopaths.
- 40:42So we're going to have a weekend.
- 40:44So I got a quick question for you,
- 40:46and I want Charlie to jump in here,
- 40:47because we're all fans of
- 40:49the Attitude Era of WWE.
- 40:54Yeah.
- 40:54Right?
- 40:55With the 35 to 39-year-old group,
- 40:58how much chirping is going
- 40:59to go on during that event?
- 41:02Oh, I'm a proponent of it,
- 41:03and you know that I wish
- 41:04this was a thing for years.
- 41:06Dallin and Hopper-
- 41:09I don't know.
- 41:09Look, I ain't talking shit to Roman ever.
- 41:11I know what you used to do for a living.
- 41:13I don't want any part of that, sir.
- 41:14And you're rushing.
- 41:15I don't know how serious you
- 41:16are and don't understand
- 41:17most of the things you say.
- 41:17But, dude, it'll be fun.
- 41:21Easy will talk smack in a healthy way.
- 41:25And, like, I think that group, like,
- 41:26at Masters, at NFC,
- 41:29mad shit talk in the stalls,
- 41:30in the walking out.
- 41:32Like, me and Ken Batterson,
- 41:35Alex from Louisiana,
- 41:37And a bunch of people do.
- 41:39That's what's so weird.
- 41:40Me and Alex started together.
- 41:42Our first year at regional
- 41:43was 2014 together, and we were there.
- 41:45I think he kicked my ass that weekend.
- 41:46But it's a little healthy smack talk sesh,
- 41:50like we're playing pick up at the YMCA,
- 41:52doing weird two-handed
- 41:53layups because we're old.
- 41:56It'll be fun, dude.
- 41:57I'm excited.
- 41:57And then we are all Attitude
- 41:59Air kids if you watch wrestling.
- 42:00If you're in the South,
- 42:01you watch wrestling probably.
- 42:04And I'm going to wear it.
- 42:05I don't know.
- 42:05I wonder how much trouble
- 42:06we'll get in since they
- 42:07gave us three t-shirts if I
- 42:08do wear like a DX Suck It
- 42:09shirt because I got one.
- 42:11So we'll see.
- 42:12You almost had to.
- 42:13You had the Stone Cold.
- 42:15So you got to bring the other one out.
- 42:16I also got a hat.
- 42:18The hat's fair game, I feel like.
- 42:19Yeah,
- 42:21I got a Stone Cold hat and a Suck It hat.
- 42:24And worst case,
- 42:24I'll just do the Shawn
- 42:25Michaels pose if I do well in an event.
- 42:27I ain't mad at that.
- 42:28And then somebody can throw me, like,
- 42:30my buddy Michael threw me
- 42:30two beers the year at Syndicate.
- 42:32Wasn't too cool because I was in, like,
- 42:3420th, but whatever.
- 42:34We were having fun.
- 42:37He threw me two beers from the stands,
- 42:38and I smashed two of them.
- 42:39But, yeah, dude, I'm going to go have fun.
- 42:42I'm going to be fit.
- 42:43And that group of people, you know,
- 42:46and a bunch of friends.
- 42:47Kenji Riley's going to be there.
- 42:48Like,
- 42:49we haven't been in the same place
- 42:49competing in a long time,
- 42:50so it's going to be...
- 42:52It's going to be a fun weekend, dude.
- 42:53And that means Roy's going
- 42:54to be there and her little hooligans.
- 42:56She's got two little clones now.
- 42:58So everybody that's started
- 43:00with me has all the
- 43:01childrens and all the things.
- 43:03And so a few of them will be there.
- 43:04And so there should be some
- 43:05real healthy you suck shit talk.
- 43:08But it'll also be like high
- 43:10fives and then hugs at the
- 43:11end like it always is.
- 43:12But I want the spice in there.
- 43:15Yeah.
- 43:17Corey said at NFC we had a
- 43:19guy straight up call a shot
- 43:21and then backed it up.
- 43:22It was me, Corey.
- 43:23Actually, Ken went first.
- 43:24That last workout,
- 43:27whoever programmed that shit,
- 43:28I told them I tested it and
- 43:29did it in one round.
- 43:29They called me a liar to my face.
- 43:31And then Ken was in the heat
- 43:32before us and did it.
- 43:34And I thank you that we tied.
- 43:36You might have beat me by a second.
- 43:37But it was like you had
- 43:38three minutes to do 300-meter row,
- 43:39three deadlifts, 365, three leg lifts.
- 43:43And I think maybe it was 150
- 43:43handstand walks.
- 43:45And Ken's like,
- 43:47it was an old like grid pro
- 43:48when it was like grid,
- 43:49not weird Florida minor
- 43:51league scary stuff.
- 43:53It's not.
- 43:54They're doing a great job.
- 43:55That was not a stray they should catch.
- 43:56They're doing great.
- 43:57It's cool.
- 43:57I just, grid still gives me PTSD.
- 44:00But yeah, Ken is freakishly fit.
- 44:04And so we broke that workout and did it.
- 44:05Most of us did it in one round.
- 44:07It was fun.
- 44:08But it was us, Corey.
- 44:10How dare you?
- 44:10How dare you?
- 44:12We'll do the same thing this weekend.
- 44:13That's how I wish Ken would qualify, dude.
- 44:15It would have been fun to have that.
- 44:16And hell, he might come and watch.
- 44:18But they were all around Maximus.
- 44:19I want to say Ken lives in
- 44:21Indiana or somewhere around
- 44:22there in that region.
- 44:23So they were always around there.
- 44:26Him,
- 44:26I don't know if Tony's competing this
- 44:28year from Timberwolf that used to be.
- 44:29But Tony's been exceptionally fit.
- 44:32He's been a master's guy for a long time.
- 44:34Like most people, didn't want to do it,
- 44:36which I get.
- 44:37Hurton now is a lot
- 44:39different than Hurton then.
- 44:42But I just want to stay a scary dad.
- 44:44That's all.
- 44:46Well, I love when you turn 35,
- 44:47like getting canceled isn't even,
- 44:49doesn't even matter anymore.
- 44:50Am I in that?
- 44:51Am I in that space now?
- 44:53You just, you can say whatever you want.
- 44:55Nobody cares.
- 44:5535 is the old man mark where
- 44:58you can say creepy shit and
- 44:59not because that's news to me.
- 45:00And we're about to rev that up.
- 45:01So I've been waiting on that.
- 45:05Yeah.
- 45:07Yeah.
- 45:08In the gym for sure.
- 45:09Well, they, that's, what's weird is like,
- 45:11I'm so that is the
- 45:12different framework of this place.
- 45:14So classes of 45 minutes, um,
- 45:17The population is very similar.
- 45:19The approach is a little
- 45:21different as far as methodology stuff.
- 45:25Very similar methodology,
- 45:26very much more opportunity
- 45:28for it to bleed into every
- 45:29other part of your life
- 45:29from a structure standpoint
- 45:31as far as nutrition and
- 45:33kind of guiding every step
- 45:34of your health and wellness stuff.
- 45:36But, like, what does shit talk to say?
- 45:38I am doing the exact, like,
- 45:40demos and stuff.
- 45:41And it's appreciated, dude.
- 45:43And it's appreciated everywhere.
- 45:44Just, you know,
- 45:45being in a new place where it's...
- 45:48It is, but it's not.
- 45:49I don't know what I can and
- 45:50cannot say yet.
- 45:51But giving flowers to everybody,
- 45:52I still love both.
- 45:53But this place has been a
- 45:54breath of fresh air to me.
- 45:55Getting back into a place
- 45:57that has professionalism,
- 45:59is very interested in
- 46:00creating careers for
- 46:00coaches as far as salary benefits.
- 46:02And the heart of it is still
- 46:05to cure the world's most
- 46:07vaccinated disease through
- 46:08the same methodology.
- 46:09And so I'm on board.
- 46:11And the deeper I get into it,
- 46:12the more on board I am,
- 46:13especially under this flag,
- 46:15because it tickles all my feel goods.
- 46:16I still get to come.
- 46:17kick it with the homies and
- 46:18do my thing so uh is it
- 46:20more of a franchise model
- 46:22as opposed to like yeah
- 46:23yeah so so their
- 46:24headquarters are in
- 46:25birmingham right that's
- 46:27where we did uh coach khan
- 46:28mine is in madison alabama
- 46:31there's one in downtown
- 46:32huntsville uh the homie
- 46:33macy runs blair morris owns
- 46:35the two here I'm not sure
- 46:38who owns the ones in
- 46:39birmingham but it might
- 46:40just be uh corporate but
- 46:42The corporate offices are in Birmingham.
- 46:43It's very regional.
- 46:44I think the furthest west it
- 46:46goes is Houston.
- 46:46The furthest east it goes is
- 46:48South Carolina, maybe.
- 46:49But I mean,
- 46:52I ain't going to get into the
- 46:53nooks and crannies of it.
- 46:53But business model-wise,
- 46:57we could take some things.
- 47:00It is very tried and true and steady.
- 47:03I'll say that.
- 47:03And I've dug it, man.
- 47:05It is a thing to present to
- 47:06people that the friction
- 47:07points of an affiliate
- 47:09whether you're starting a
- 47:10business or other thing, otherwise, uh,
- 47:12taking off.
- 47:13So you get to, I dare say,
- 47:15be more of a flow state of
- 47:16the things that are important to you.
- 47:17So if you're a books person, cool,
- 47:18do the books.
- 47:19Here's the structure for the
- 47:20classes and all these things.
- 47:21Uh,
- 47:22it gets a little more personal on the
- 47:23development side, right?
- 47:24I don't bring Scott into that hour class,
- 47:27smash him like, all right, Scott,
- 47:28hope your pull-ups develop
- 47:29next class that when it comes back around,
- 47:31right?
- 47:31It's very structured.
- 47:32We do 45 minute classes.
- 47:33There's no argument about a
- 47:34Metcon and a Lyft every day.
- 47:37The programming,
- 47:37if you come to this Iron
- 47:38Tribe or an Iron Tribe in Birmingham,
- 47:40is exactly the same.
- 47:40The product's the same,
- 47:41the flow of the class, the verbiage.
- 47:44I dare say the way we teach.
- 47:47I know I probably have a
- 47:48little nuance versus some people.
- 47:49I just kind of learned that this weekend.
- 47:50My man Matt, this operations guy here,
- 47:53is a little different.
- 47:54He's a jiu-jitsu guy and a
- 47:56Westside-minded fella.
- 47:58Um,
- 47:58but it was cool last weekend and they had,
- 48:01I mean, you remember the big sky things,
- 48:02right?
- 48:02Like where they did everybody there.
- 48:04So they do that every year.
- 48:06It's not a memory.
- 48:07It's a constant practice, uh, a lot here.
- 48:10So, um, they,
- 48:13I want to say maybe 200 something here.
- 48:17Tickets are the tickets a
- 48:18little different here.
- 48:20Uh, I'd say also look at that.
- 48:22So, uh, but I mean, we have,
- 48:24so just model wise,
- 48:25we have two class options.
- 48:26It's power.
- 48:28It's traditional kind of
- 48:28functional fitness class, right?
- 48:31And then prime, right?
- 48:32So say Scott's coming off.
- 48:34What's the last injury you had?
- 48:35I can't remember.
- 48:37All of them.
- 48:38Every one of them.
- 48:39Yeah.
- 48:39All of them.
- 48:40So when you're coming off that injury,
- 48:41right, it's hard to come back into class.
- 48:44Like, hey, we're doing Fran today, guys.
- 48:45Well, Scott, get on the bike.
- 48:47Right?
- 48:47So we do prime stuff.
- 48:50And so prime is like the
- 48:52personal training class.
- 48:53So you come in.
- 48:54Your program's personal.
- 48:55Your nutrition stuff's personal.
- 48:57and all that stuff.
- 48:58So it is elaborate, dude.
- 49:01And the things available to
- 49:01you that you're able to
- 49:02take hold of as far as just
- 49:05a deep experience and across the board,
- 49:07like franchise to franchise,
- 49:08whether it's a standalone
- 49:10one like Blair has here in
- 49:11two locations or the HQ
- 49:13one's down in Birmingham,
- 49:15the experience is the same.
- 49:17Programming for power is the same.
- 49:18So it's like, I mean, you go to Polaris,
- 49:21it's Polaris' programming,
- 49:22or maybe they're
- 49:25Shit.
- 49:25What's Christie's programming?
- 49:28Ibex.
- 49:28Ibex.
- 49:29Maybe it's Ibex.
- 49:29Maybe Charlie goes to a
- 49:30Mayhem one or this or that.
- 49:32Everybody's got their own flavor, right?
- 49:33They're all cool.
- 49:34and whatever,
- 49:35but you know what you're going to.
- 49:36We go to Mayhem Gym,
- 49:37we're probably going to do
- 49:38a million GHDs and rope climbs.
- 49:40We go, you know, whatever.
- 49:42Whatever that flavor is.
- 49:43It's consistent here, right?
- 49:44There's a lady in here now
- 49:45who lives in Nashville.
- 49:46Her daughter's doing a summer internship.
- 49:48She comes in here every day.
- 49:49Same membership.
- 49:51Covers this one, right?
- 49:52So she can check in here.
- 49:54All her stats are tracked.
- 49:55All the software and stuff like is...
- 49:57Pretty proprietary, the app's dope.
- 49:59I've been, like I said,
- 50:01I've tasted a lot of foot
- 50:02and eaten some crow in the
- 50:03last three months as far as
- 50:04like my outlook and my very, you know,
- 50:07this is the way, now how we do it is,
- 50:10you know, CrossFit.
- 50:11But it's been different in a
- 50:14very positive light, man.
- 50:15It's been a cool one to stand in,
- 50:17especially last weekend
- 50:18getting to kind of rub
- 50:18elbows with their head of programming,
- 50:20Kyle.
- 50:21Forrest,
- 50:22the guy who kind of founded it and
- 50:23kind of navigated the
- 50:24lawsuit stuff across there and kind of,
- 50:26you know,
- 50:26made it right and has this thing.
- 50:29And just like,
- 50:30and it's Christian organization, which I,
- 50:31you know, I'm down with JC.
- 50:34And so it's been awesome.
- 50:36And then the outlook for me
- 50:37is like long-term.
- 50:38So, and a lot of, like I said,
- 50:41a lot of the fear I had to
- 50:42open an affiliate to where it's risky,
- 50:43right?
- 50:43That business model, it is what it is.
- 50:45And there's very good verbiage to like, oh,
- 50:48you can,
- 50:48there's the toolbox and all this stuff.
- 50:50And that's cool.
- 50:51but it's still on you.
- 50:53And this is that same scenario,
- 50:55but the support that comes
- 50:56along is not that verbiage like,
- 50:57here's the tools.
- 50:58Good luck.
- 50:59Pay your affiliate fee.
- 51:01And not to say that's the
- 51:02depth they go to.
- 51:03That's just, you know,
- 51:05that's what I know about it.
