- 0:34Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:36Speaker 4: I actually agreed with that part of his quote. He
- 0:41Speaker 4: has probably been their best offensive player when he's been
- 0:43Speaker 4: on the field.
- 0:44Speaker 5: I say that, Yeah, he said that about it. I
- 0:46Speaker 5: miss that he said that about himself. Y. Yeah, but
- 0:51Speaker 5: I agree with him.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I think he's gonna start, but it's gonna be a
- 0:53Speaker 1: very short leash. And they told him they're gonna tell
- 0:56Speaker 1: him so before the game.
- 0:58Speaker 6: Like double secret probation all.
- 1:00Speaker 5: I mean, I know what can't and you're gonna make
- 1:04Speaker 5: fun of you, but like this, there's nothing like seeing
- 1:05Speaker 5: a show on.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And do a lot of that.
- 1:07Speaker 5: I did.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Wow, I can see Paul look in this scarfish you know,
- 1:12Speaker 1: walking stick.
- 1:14Speaker 6: Monicle.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Yeah, well, the best part is is when they had this.
- 1:17Speaker 4: This is very inside baseball, but they make us like
- 1:20Speaker 4: turn our backs.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Next thing, you know, they'll have like sacks over your head,
- 1:23Speaker 1: you know. Okay, Saxon, Saxon, Aaron will come over. Okay,
- 1:28Speaker 1: sas Off.
- 1:29Speaker 5: That's our time. This is Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:39Speaker 1: All right, welcome to the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday
- 1:42Speaker 1: here at chi Letts Stadium, and.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Boy, we got problems right there.
- 1:49Speaker 6: We got problem we can't solve them.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, the once the once mighty Patriots, the Empire, the dynasty. Ah, boy,
- 1:59Speaker 1: it's we're we're in trouble.
- 2:01Speaker 8: You know, it's bad hearing you say that. Every single week.
- 2:04Speaker 8: You're like this and this is still in play, this
- 2:06Speaker 8: and this.
- 2:07Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, well we've officially come to the point where we
- 2:12Speaker 1: can't have a winning record.
- 2:17Speaker 6: A strong finish.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You know, I had this, I had this thought, and
- 2:21Speaker 1: you know, sometimes like I get these things that pop
- 2:23Speaker 1: in my head and they actually come true. That the
- 2:26Speaker 1: Patriots win their last six games. I'm serious that if
- 2:31Speaker 1: they did in a way it would but in a
- 2:34Speaker 1: way it wouldn't because you know, what's what's going on
- 2:38Speaker 1: right now is this whole and I I completely understand it.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I'm not criticizing, but the whole talk about Belichick, you know,
- 2:45Speaker 1: Mac is one thing, Like what's going on with Mac
- 2:48Speaker 1: is obvious. He's he's melting, you know, before our eyes.
- 2:52Speaker 1: He wasn't this bad before. He's terrible right now. He's
- 2:55Speaker 1: just you just can't think out there for whatever reason.
- 2:58Speaker 1: But the whole Belichick thing, you know, uh, you know
- 3:02Speaker 1: the people that have come out and they're really looking
- 3:05Speaker 1: for you know, the skins and then there's still people
- 3:09Speaker 1: out there defending him and what's gonna happen with him?
- 3:12Speaker 1: And you know the storylines going forward for the last
- 3:15Speaker 1: six six games, that's gonna dominate when it comes to
- 3:19Speaker 1: New England news, and especially with the fact that three
- 3:22Speaker 1: of our games are national games at least as of now,
- 3:25Speaker 1: you know, unless they get flexed a national networks are
- 3:31Speaker 1: always looking for the storyline. What's the storyline going in
- 3:34Speaker 1: of the game, and for us, that's gonna be.
- 3:36Speaker 6: It fall of the dynasty.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, the fall of the dynasty and what's gonna happen
- 3:40Speaker 1: with Bill Belichick And you know it's it's it's gonna
- 3:44Speaker 1: be tough. You know, I can understand. I'm not saying like, oh,
- 3:48Speaker 1: they shouldn't be talking about that. It's disrespectful now, No, No,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I get it.
- 3:52Speaker 5: And the Monday Night game in particular, I think if
- 3:55Speaker 5: you remember, and I heard on my show yesterday they
- 3:57Speaker 5: were talking about this a little bit. Do you remember
- 3:59Speaker 5: that Ara own a game on the Monday Night last
- 4:01Speaker 5: year where Troy Aikman had some I thought both of
- 4:04Speaker 5: them had some interesting stuff. And I forget this all
- 4:06Speaker 5: the specifics, but I remember them saying things. I was like, oh,
- 4:09Speaker 5: I hadn't heard that. Those are I think Fred's right on,
- 4:14Speaker 5: like that's what they're going to be talking about. Kind
- 4:16Speaker 5: of things like you remember Mac with the history Onyx
- 4:19Speaker 5: and how he was getting under the skin of the
- 4:21Speaker 5: coaching statu It was some those kinds of things that
- 4:25Speaker 5: we hadn't really heard specifics about, and all of a sudden,
- 4:28Speaker 5: Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were just openly talking about it.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I think that is going to be the narrative for
- 4:34Speaker 5: them in that Kansas City game on the Monday Night.
- 4:36Speaker 5: If it doesn't get flexed.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Do you hit that power button on the on.
- 4:40Speaker 5: The monitor he likes to see himself.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I agree, well, I just want to make sure we're on.
- 4:45Speaker 8: So do you not think that these conversations are warranted,
- 4:48Speaker 8: like about Bill and you know it being time to
- 4:50Speaker 8: close the down?
- 4:51Speaker 1: No, I think they are warranted. I mean, I mean sure.
- 4:55Speaker 1: But it is funny because I saw a poll on
- 4:58Speaker 1: on Twitter x today and there was a Twitter there
- 5:02Speaker 1: were three options with you know, what do you think
- 5:05Speaker 1: will happen if Bill leaves? And one of the options
- 5:08Speaker 1: was teams will be lined up to hire him? And
- 5:11Speaker 1: that was the winner, you know, pretty easily.
- 5:14Speaker 8: It's weird because I wouldn't necessarily be lined up, especially
- 5:18Speaker 8: because you've seen the way he's mishandled Mac. I would
- 5:21Speaker 8: be afraid that he would mishandle my quarterback too. I
- 5:24Speaker 8: would also be afraid of how he's going to set
- 5:26Speaker 8: up the roster. Look at the roster right now. What
- 5:28Speaker 8: if he does that for my team too, and doesn't
- 5:30Speaker 8: want to pay all these players what I'm currently paying them,
- 5:33Speaker 8: doesn't want to retain who I think I should keep.
- 5:36Speaker 8: And also it's like what if I wanted to give
- 5:37Speaker 8: him a GM and he doesn't want that.
- 5:39Speaker 9: So, like I don't know.
- 5:40Speaker 5: It's kind of tough, but all valid points.
- 5:42Speaker 10: Right.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But if you're the owner or GM of another team
- 5:45Speaker 1: and you're thinking about him, you sit him down, right,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you at least talk with him and you say, what's
- 5:50Speaker 1: going on over there? And what if he tells you
- 5:53Speaker 1: that there were some things that changed over the last
- 5:56Speaker 1: four or five years that you know his age. But
- 6:03Speaker 1: you know, when this happens, and it's not just with
- 6:05Speaker 1: the Patriots, but any team that the end is near
- 6:08Speaker 1: with the coaching regime or whatever, you know, assistant coaches
- 6:12Speaker 1: start getting on the phone and start making their case
- 6:15Speaker 1: and start, you know, and these little stories start to
- 6:18Speaker 1: get out and finger pointing, wasn't my fault, wasn't my fault?
- 6:22Speaker 1: You know, that's we're not immune to that. That that's
- 6:25Speaker 1: probably gonna start happening here if it hasn't already.
- 6:28Speaker 6: Those are the things that are going to be happening.
- 6:29Speaker 11: I just I really wonder, like, in a vacuum, what
- 6:32Speaker 11: would Bill say about he wants to stay here, he
- 6:35Speaker 11: wants to he wants to rebuild this. I mean, does
- 6:37Speaker 11: does he look at this team and think, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 11: and just again in a vacuum, can fix this?
- 6:43Speaker 5: Does he feel like he could get this team.
- 6:44Speaker 11: You know, it's his time frame back on the track.
- 6:47Speaker 1: It's something like to talk about because let's just say
- 6:50Speaker 1: he really does feel that way. I believe that if
- 6:54Speaker 1: he does, then he has a responsibility to talk to
- 7:00Speaker 1: the fans and the media a little differently then, Like,
- 7:03Speaker 1: if you seriously believe you want to stay and you
- 7:07Speaker 1: can rebuild this team, then he's not going about it
- 7:10Speaker 1: the right way, I don't think, because he's not earning
- 7:14Speaker 1: any confidence in the fan base. And I know he
- 7:19Speaker 1: doesn't owe us anything, but in a way, well I
- 7:22Speaker 1: shouldn't say he doesn't owe the media anything, but he
- 7:24Speaker 1: does owe the fans a lot. And I think that,
- 7:27Speaker 1: you know, the media is the conduit to him. You know,
- 7:31Speaker 1: we don't get to the fans don't get to talk
- 7:33Speaker 1: to him directly. And if he really wants to stay
- 7:36Speaker 1: and believes he can turn this thing around, if he
- 7:39Speaker 1: has a few things, then I think he owes it
- 7:42Speaker 1: to the fans to make that case starting now, like
- 7:46Speaker 1: starting now not.
- 7:48Speaker 11: I just I think every time he said over the
- 7:50Speaker 11: last few weeks, when he actually kind of acknowledged that
- 7:52Speaker 11: this has been a bad season, it's just been so
- 7:54Speaker 11: striking to me because so much of the way that
- 7:56Speaker 11: he handles everything is you know, they could be thirteen
- 7:59Speaker 11: and one right now, whatever, you know, Like you just
- 8:01Speaker 11: you don't see the difference really and how which you
- 8:04Speaker 11: know in some ways, Look, I mean as a you know,
- 8:06Speaker 11: as a leader and somebody who has to set the tone, Like,
- 8:09Speaker 11: I mean, what would you do in this situation? Your
- 8:11Speaker 11: team is falling apart, you have two wins, you don't
- 8:13Speaker 11: have a quarterback. You know, you're left to kind of
- 8:16Speaker 11: try to come up with creative solutions. And meanwhile, any
- 8:18Speaker 11: kind of creative solution, you've got a media that's going
- 8:20Speaker 11: to question you on everything. So this is what happens
- 8:22Speaker 11: when you lose games. But I just I really wonder
- 8:25Speaker 11: where his headspace is and I and I think it's
- 8:27Speaker 11: worth bringing up. Does he want to come back? Does
- 8:29Speaker 11: he want to keep doing this? Does he look at
- 8:31Speaker 11: this and say, geez, I just can't get this team together.
- 8:34Speaker 6: It takes too much. I got to get out of here.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Well, you know, he's made a couple, he's he's mentioned
- 8:39Speaker 1: it a couple of times in postgame press conferences where
- 8:42Speaker 1: you know, we've had a lot of close games, you know,
- 8:44Speaker 1: and when you have close games, but you know everybody
- 8:48Speaker 1: does in the NFL. But when you have close games,
- 8:51Speaker 1: you know, play here or play there, a turnover here
- 8:54Speaker 1: that doesn't could actually you know, could turn the result around,
- 8:58Speaker 1: and you know maybe in his and he's thinking, I'm
- 9:01Speaker 1: coaching this team the best way I can. I'm getting
- 9:04Speaker 1: them to a point where they're in these games, and
- 9:07Speaker 1: because of the quarterback or something else, we're losing these games.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And it ain't me. I'm I'm you know.
- 9:18Speaker 4: I think that I don't know if this is what
- 9:20Speaker 4: you're saying. Do so maybe I don't disine I have
- 9:22Speaker 4: something to say, but I think the last couple of weeks,
- 9:26Speaker 4: I've actually feel like he is different at the podium.
- 9:29Speaker 4: And I don't mean he's saying different things. I mean
- 9:32Speaker 4: like his body language is different, and the whole the
- 9:36Speaker 4: record and all every all this stuff has me questioning everything, obviously,
- 9:41Speaker 4: And I.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Am your place in this world, just like your choice.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Like I sat in the dark room last night, I
- 9:47Speaker 4: thought about it, but no, I think the biggest thing
- 9:52Speaker 4: I notice is kind of just like defeated. Like I
- 9:56Speaker 4: feel like he's just kind of given up. I really do,
- 9:59Speaker 4: like I feel like he feels like the last couple
- 10:01Speaker 4: of weeks, he feels like a defeated person that is
- 10:06Speaker 4: going through the motions of this.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Why do you think he's defeated there?
- 10:12Speaker 5: And nine?
- 10:13Speaker 4: But I think I think it's I think I'm with Paul.
- 10:18Speaker 4: I don't know if he wants out to go someplace
- 10:20Speaker 4: else specifically, but I think he sees the writing on
- 10:24Speaker 4: the wall that it's over for him here. And I
- 10:27Speaker 4: I just the way that he's at the podium, the
- 10:30Speaker 4: way that he is going about this whole thing.
- 10:33Speaker 10: Uh.
- 10:34Speaker 4: You know, he was super relaxed in Germany out of nowhere,
- 10:36Speaker 4: I think just because he was trying to be a
- 10:38Speaker 4: little bit nicer to the foreign media. But in general,
- 10:42Speaker 4: I just feel like he's been that way. And what
- 10:45Speaker 4: you said off the top, like really quickly, can Rex
- 10:48Speaker 4: Ryan shut the heck up?
- 10:49Speaker 5: Well, like, no, this is.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Really bothered, Like go shine Your AFC Championship appearance rings
- 10:55Speaker 4: Rex Ryan, Like it's really it bugs me a ton
- 10:58Speaker 4: that him, of all people, are the ones that are
- 11:01Speaker 4: are taking these shots now at Bill because it's like you,
- 11:06Speaker 4: what have you accomplished in your career in the NFL?
- 11:10Speaker 1: Well, like, I don't think that's particularly relevant to him
- 11:13Speaker 1: being an analyst. But I I hear, like what he's
- 11:15Speaker 1: doing is is so over the top.
- 11:17Speaker 5: It's ridiculous performative for TV. It is. But but like
- 11:21Speaker 5: you know, you absolutely respect it's wrong.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Your quarterbacks stink and your team stinks, you know.
- 11:27Speaker 5: And like, yeah, it's it's definitely over the top, like
- 11:30Speaker 5: that you got to get something that's gonna circulate on
- 11:34Speaker 5: Twitter and you know, uh hit as as you like
- 11:38Speaker 5: to say, Freddie hit the zeitgeist. Yeah, and that's but
- 11:41Speaker 5: it's definitely performed, has been that way. But I think
- 11:44Speaker 5: I think he would argue with you is like there's
- 11:46Speaker 5: a lot of guys that could have won a lot
- 11:48Speaker 5: of games, but with Brady. But that's not his argument.
- 11:51Speaker 1: See that's just what he says.
- 11:52Speaker 5: But he's saying, you haven't won anything without Brady yesterday,
- 11:55Speaker 5: And what is he won anything he didn't have Brady.
- 11:58Speaker 5: That's his argument. But but like you can just agree
- 12:00Speaker 5: with his argument all you want, but that's his argument.
- 12:02Speaker 1: But he did say that, Paul. But then at the
- 12:03Speaker 1: other side of his mouth he says he's the greatest
- 12:05Speaker 1: of all time.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Because I think he thinks he's a great coach. But
- 12:09Speaker 5: but it's different, but I know.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But he literally said, he's the greatest of all time,
- 12:12Speaker 1: but you can't win anything without Brady. He's trying to like, so.
- 12:15Speaker 5: Maybe he's telling you that I'm acknowledging that he won
- 12:19Speaker 5: more with Brady than just the average coach would have won. Well,
- 12:21Speaker 5: they say that, but he's telling you he's the greatest
- 12:24Speaker 5: of all time. I know, but he's not saying it
- 12:25Speaker 5: the way you want him to.
- 12:26Speaker 8: No.
- 12:27Speaker 1: But and then at the same time he says he
- 12:29Speaker 1: wouldn't have won anything.
- 12:30Speaker 5: But I just think it's embarrassing that I think.
- 12:32Speaker 1: The greatest coach of all time would be able to
- 12:34Speaker 1: win in this league without not to the extent, but
- 12:39Speaker 1: would have success in this league.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Has always been about bluster, and he's always been a
- 12:43Speaker 5: loud mouth, and now all of a sudden with two
- 12:45Speaker 5: and nine and like, we're really mad.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Well, I think he's got a feeling. I think he's
- 12:49Speaker 1: a little over the top.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Even for him, it's always been over It's not even
- 12:52Speaker 5: for getting your feelings her.
- 12:54Speaker 4: It's just like I have no respect Twitter Timeline, Like
- 12:58Speaker 4: I just have no respect for him as a coach, but.
- 13:00Speaker 5: I know I have tons of respects I'll tell you
- 13:02Speaker 5: who has a lot of respect for him as a
- 13:04Speaker 5: coach is Bill Belichick.
- 13:05Speaker 1: But I mean along those lines, Dan or Lafsky, we
- 13:08Speaker 1: shouldn't listen to. There's a lot of guys.
- 13:12Speaker 4: I'm not saying that it's a I get what you're saying,
- 13:15Speaker 4: but the point is is that he's being demonstratively over
- 13:18Speaker 4: the top for TV on ND and and But the
- 13:22Speaker 4: thing is is that you have some respect for just
- 13:26Speaker 4: a fellow coach and dragging Bill through the mud here
- 13:29Speaker 4: just because now we can take shots at Bill because
- 13:31Speaker 4: he's two and nine.
- 13:33Speaker 5: And I say this all the time. I am good.
- 13:36Speaker 4: I would defend Bill against a clown like Rex Ryan
- 13:39Speaker 4: any day of the week. I'll rag on him and
- 13:41Speaker 4: tell you how horrible he's been too. But he's like,
- 13:44Speaker 4: it's like you know your sibling, right, Like it's he's
- 13:47Speaker 4: my brother.
- 13:47Speaker 5: So I get this. I want to say one thing
- 13:50Speaker 5: really really quick, and I'll just be curious to see
- 13:52Speaker 5: if he answered this. Honestly, what do you think of
- 13:53Speaker 5: Phil Jackson as a coach? What did you think of
- 13:55Speaker 5: what hell how he did when he was from the Knicks.
- 13:57Speaker 5: I think basketball is a different sport, but what did
- 13:59Speaker 5: you think when he was on the Knicks, you laughed,
- 14:02Speaker 5: you laughed and mocked him. I know you did, because
- 14:04Speaker 5: you're a Boston fan just like me. I did. I
- 14:06Speaker 5: don't have to be so easy without the best player
- 14:10Speaker 5: around play. I get it.
- 14:11Speaker 1: But you're not on TV.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Like but that. But that's all this is is like
- 14:15Speaker 5: the greatest dynasty has fallen. I know. But people around
- 14:18Speaker 5: the country are laughing about it.
- 14:20Speaker 1: But just like there is a brotherhood of coaches, there
- 14:24Speaker 1: is a fraternity. And I said it, he's when it
- 14:27Speaker 1: became apparent that this season was going to go south.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I said it on a postgame show. I said, the
- 14:33Speaker 1: end is coming. But I hope people are respectful of him,
- 14:36Speaker 1: of Bill, whatever flaws, he.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Deserves respect, respect absolutely, you know. But I just think
- 14:46Speaker 5: Rex Ryan has never been a guy who's going to
- 14:48Speaker 5: be sort of buttoned down. I know that's not who
- 14:51Speaker 5: he is.
- 14:52Speaker 4: This can't help and I'm allowed to say that he's
- 14:54Speaker 4: a clown.
- 14:55Speaker 5: Oh, absolutely, absolutely, I think he is a clown. I
- 14:58Speaker 5: would agree with you on that. I just think that
- 15:00Speaker 5: he was a good coach, and I think Bill Belichick
- 15:03Speaker 5: had a lot of respect for his coaching acumen.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I know that well, he's not going.
- 15:09Speaker 5: To say I know it for a fact, but I
- 15:11Speaker 5: have had conversations with him, and I think he really
- 15:14Speaker 5: respected the fact that he was a game plan oriented
- 15:16Speaker 5: coach and did different things that bothered an offense at
- 15:20Speaker 5: its peak at times. And I think he did have
- 15:24Speaker 5: a lot of respect for him, probably not, probably not
- 15:27Speaker 5: as a person, probably too much because probably not as
- 15:29Speaker 5: a person. Respect for him, No, probably not as a person. Bill.
- 15:33Speaker 5: I mean, I think Rex has a lot of respect
- 15:34Speaker 5: for the coach, not the person. Again, I don't think
- 15:37Speaker 5: they like each other. Yeah, there's a difference there.
- 15:40Speaker 11: I hate sitting on a point that I thought of
- 15:41Speaker 11: like six minutes ago before we were talking about this,
- 15:43Speaker 11: but I got to go back to it just because
- 15:44Speaker 11: I finally, you know, it's just it kind of clicked
- 15:46Speaker 11: for me. If I just feel like Bill's been selling
- 15:48Speaker 11: us so much on it's been circumstantial, like our win
- 15:51Speaker 11: wins and losses. These have been circumstantial losses. You know,
- 15:53Speaker 11: when he go back to that quote, you know at Buffalo,
- 15:56Speaker 11: you know, is this who we are or is this
- 15:58Speaker 11: and you know, and again pointing to circumstances of injuries
- 16:02Speaker 11: of we've been in the close games instead of And
- 16:04Speaker 11: I think for me, the shift that you kind of
- 16:06Speaker 11: talk about, Fred is just acknowledging it's not circumstantial anymore.
- 16:10Speaker 11: This is a bad team that has been poorly constructed
- 16:12Speaker 11: and cannot do what they need to do to win
- 16:14Speaker 11: football games. And I think that's just what's not ringing
- 16:17Speaker 11: true is when he gets up there and he continues
- 16:18Speaker 11: to pitch us on circumstantial stuff like well, that game,
- 16:21Speaker 11: you know, I mean, we had to lead, you know, it's.
- 16:22Speaker 6: Just a couple of turnovers.
- 16:23Speaker 11: It's like you're trying to sell us on the forest
- 16:25Speaker 11: and we're looking on where they're You're stolling us on
- 16:27Speaker 11: the trees. We're all looking at the forest right now
- 16:29Speaker 11: and seeing what's really out there. And that that, to me,
- 16:31Speaker 11: is the shift that needs to happen, right Like, you know,
- 16:34Speaker 11: like these little things of each game when it's like
- 16:35Speaker 11: but it's a great ening, it's.
- 16:37Speaker 5: A great way to fool yourself. And I agree wholehearted
- 16:40Speaker 5: what you just said. I think the last two games
- 16:42Speaker 5: were kind of circumstantial losses, Like they easily could have
- 16:45Speaker 5: won the last two games if they had held out
- 16:46Speaker 5: of the ball.
- 16:46Speaker 6: At a certain point. All the circumstances stacked up.
- 16:48Speaker 5: I'm not going to hear it about the Philadelphia game,
- 16:51Speaker 5: or the first Miami game, or even the Raiders game. Like,
- 16:54Speaker 5: when you consistently fall behind by two scores in the
- 16:56Speaker 5: fourth quarter, you're going to lose in the NFL, Right, Okay,
- 16:59Speaker 5: these two games when you got ten points back to
- 17:02Speaker 5: back games and teams are fifty and zero, and that's
- 17:05Speaker 5: circumstance in the NFL. But now it's fifty and two,
- 17:08Speaker 5: and those are the two those are two games that
- 17:10Speaker 5: you should have won. I completely get the last two games.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Don't give me injuries, don't give me turnovers. For the
- 17:15Speaker 5: other games, yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Well they got better. It was ten sixth German, It's
- 17:19Speaker 1: ten to seven.
- 17:20Speaker 5: At one point, I would argue this was way worse,
- 17:23Speaker 5: way worse. This is like, no, I will too, because
- 17:27Speaker 5: I just I don't know why we were even bothering
- 17:29Speaker 5: with the performance, like beyond.
- 17:31Speaker 1: That, No, it's I mean, and you know, going back
- 17:34Speaker 1: to Mac, he's a mess.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Oh he really is.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And I do feel bad. He's somebody's son, and I'm
- 17:41Speaker 1: sure you.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Know, I just I.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Feel bad for him, But he's a mess. He's he's
- 17:50Speaker 1: like the stuff he's doing.
- 17:53Speaker 11: Is just come on, did they really think he was
- 17:56Speaker 11: going to be reset after that week? Given what you
- 17:58Speaker 11: know they did with the practice reps and all that stuff, Like,
- 18:00Speaker 11: was that.
- 18:00Speaker 1: What we mention practice? I think in practice he's okay,
- 18:05Speaker 1: that's the problem.
- 18:05Speaker 5: According to his teammates, Well, well.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I don't know. I think I think, you know, compared
- 18:10Speaker 1: to the competition in practice, it.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Might be better than the competition in practice. But there's
- 18:15Speaker 5: been reports out there, you know, talking about repeating the
- 18:18Speaker 5: same mistakes that he makes in games because he doesn't
- 18:21Speaker 5: practice always.
- 18:21Speaker 11: I just can't get over the late, stupid interception stuff
- 18:24Speaker 11: like where it's just just throw I mean, Billy Oh
- 18:26Speaker 11: talked about it today, throw it away, you know, like it's.
- 18:29Speaker 6: Just that stuff. In year three, you can't continue to
- 18:31Speaker 6: do the.
- 18:32Speaker 5: I read somewhere that PFF had him tracked for more
- 18:35Speaker 5: interceptions than throwaways this year.
- 18:37Speaker 11: I believe that, uh turnover worthy plays.
- 18:41Speaker 5: No, no, no, more interceptions than throwaways. Okay, Like back will
- 18:47Speaker 5: throw the ball away like eight or ten times a game.
- 18:49Speaker 6: I believe it.
- 18:50Speaker 5: I believe it.
- 18:50Speaker 11: How many of those interceptions were like three and a
- 18:53Speaker 11: half four seconds into the down where nobody was open
- 18:55Speaker 11: and he just chucked it first.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Actually in his defense, I actually think, well, I don't
- 18:59Speaker 4: know this is a defense. But the first interception, I
- 19:02Speaker 4: think he was trying to throw it away. He just
- 19:04Speaker 4: didn't get enough on it to get it out.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Him.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Which one, now, the first one on the sideline did
- 19:14Speaker 5: the Mario Douglas coverage.
- 19:16Speaker 4: I think he was trying to throw that away.
- 19:19Speaker 5: I think he was, because like I think he overthrew.
- 19:22Speaker 5: I mean, there's no over three.
- 19:23Speaker 4: He's like, he's there's three guys on him.
- 19:26Speaker 5: I know, that's all.
- 19:28Speaker 4: I can't so much for the way the decision making
- 19:32Speaker 4: is really what it comes down to. If his carrying
- 19:35Speaker 4: trait coming out of college was decision making was between
- 19:38Speaker 4: the years. That was how he was touted, was a
- 19:41Speaker 4: cerebral pocket passer that's going to manage the game and
- 19:45Speaker 4: make the right decisions. If he can't fall back on
- 19:48Speaker 4: that as a carrying trait, then he doesn't have a
- 19:50Speaker 4: carrying trade, which is what we're seeing right now. He
- 19:53Speaker 4: doesn't have physical tools, he doesn't have the mental acumen,
- 19:56Speaker 4: he doesn't have poise. Like if he doesn't have those
- 19:59Speaker 4: last two things, then he's not an NFL quarterback.
- 20:02Speaker 5: Period.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Is there a chance that his scouting, you know, the
- 20:07Speaker 1: scouts were just wrong on coming out of college, that
- 20:09Speaker 1: it was just too easy at Alabama, and this whole
- 20:12Speaker 1: cerebral thing was a manifestation of just having all the
- 20:16Speaker 1: time in the world in the best receivers.
- 20:18Speaker 8: I think, I think it is tough, and I've mentioned
- 20:21Speaker 8: this before to grade those guys, especially quarterbacks coming out
- 20:24Speaker 8: of Alabama and Ohio State, because you have five star everything.
- 20:27Speaker 8: Your offensive line is outstanding, your defenses up outstanding, your
- 20:30Speaker 8: receivers are outstanding. It's like, you look at all the
- 20:32Speaker 8: weapons that he had at Alabama, They're incredible.
- 20:35Speaker 9: And so it's different when you're looking.
- 20:37Speaker 8: At a guy like Drake may or Caleb Williams, who
- 20:39Speaker 8: like don't have all that talent around, and.
- 20:42Speaker 1: You say, when you say they're incredible, they weren't just
- 20:44Speaker 1: incredible in college.
- 20:45Speaker 9: They're incredible on the pro and they also have but
- 20:48Speaker 9: like you have, like treble though.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Like so, I think it's a case by case basis,
- 20:52Speaker 4: and I think with Mac you had to evaluate the
- 20:54Speaker 4: fact that his physical tools were not as good as
- 20:58Speaker 4: these other guys in the draft, and for that reason,
- 21:01Speaker 4: maybe the Alabama stuff was a little bit of a Sade.
- 21:04Speaker 4: But Trevor Lawrence had five star everything also and Clemson
- 21:08Speaker 4: and he's still a good pro. So I think it's
- 21:11Speaker 4: a case by case base.
- 21:12Speaker 5: It's not just yeah to me. That's like I think,
- 21:17Speaker 5: I think had all the same talent around him, He's
- 21:21Speaker 5: been a much better pro. He's a better player, right,
- 21:23Speaker 5: And I think C. J. Stroud had all the talents
- 21:25Speaker 5: around him, but he's a much better pro than like,
- 21:28Speaker 5: you know, the late Dwayne Haskins was. You know, they
- 21:32Speaker 5: have the same talent around him, and there's a lot
- 21:34Speaker 5: of guys, you know, Greg McElroy, A J. Mccannon, they
- 21:37Speaker 5: weren't as gifted as the guys.
- 21:39Speaker 4: That that's my point again.
- 21:42Speaker 11: The helmet sticker, I just assume though, like you know this,
- 21:45Speaker 11: he had a good processor that that means he's able
- 21:47Speaker 11: to go through reads quick and get the ball out.
- 21:49Speaker 11: Not that he won't make stupid but impossible interceptions. No,
- 21:53Speaker 11: I mean, And that's that's why I think it's a
- 21:55Speaker 11: little hard to judge, because I feel like he's broken
- 21:57Speaker 11: and he's not seeing it anymore and he's out of
- 21:59Speaker 11: that rhythm.
- 22:01Speaker 5: Is the pressure, the physical pressure, not the not the
- 22:04Speaker 5: emotional you know, the mental side of maybe.
- 22:07Speaker 11: Both, but but now it's like the compound.
- 22:10Speaker 5: It's way into both now. But I'm saying when he
- 22:14Speaker 5: started to get hit, I don't think that was anything
- 22:17Speaker 5: he ever consistently experienced. And I think it gradually has
- 22:21Speaker 5: gotten worse and worse and worse over time. And I
- 22:23Speaker 5: think that people figured it out during that seven game
- 22:28Speaker 5: winning streak. I heard something interesting today, I mean yesterday
- 22:32Speaker 5: on my show Fred And I don't know if you
- 22:34Speaker 5: guys agree with it, and I don't know Pilgramat I'm
- 22:38Speaker 5: hoping for it show. Yeah, someone called in and said
- 22:44Speaker 5: that everything looked fine until that Monday night game. Would
- 22:48Speaker 5: Bill only let him throw the ball three times?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that was ridiculous.
- 22:52Speaker 5: I heard that. Do you think that there was anything
- 22:54Speaker 5: to that?
- 22:54Speaker 6: No, not really.
- 22:56Speaker 5: When Matt Judon is making fun of him after the game,
- 22:59Speaker 5: you know, everybody played great except for Mac. He didn't
- 23:01Speaker 5: do nothing. I mean, like you, I know he was
- 23:04Speaker 5: I know he was joking. I always it was a
- 23:06Speaker 5: tongue in cheek thing, but I do.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I mean, do you ever think we were We watched
- 23:10Speaker 1: that game. I was there.
- 23:11Speaker 5: I thought it was embarrassing that they play an NFL
- 23:13Speaker 5: game throwing three passes.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I don't remember ever saying, oh, they should be throwing
- 23:16Speaker 1: the ball more.
- 23:18Speaker 5: I said that it's an indictment on the quarterback that
- 23:22Speaker 5: he didn't throw it. I think that Bill did the
- 23:23Speaker 5: right thing because he knew. I don't think so, though,
- 23:26Speaker 5: because even though it was already at that point, you're
- 23:30Speaker 5: already a point where you weren't gonna let him throwing
- 23:34Speaker 5: passed early in that game, and I think it actually
- 23:36Speaker 5: got caught by a fault people the wind. John Whu
- 23:38Speaker 5: Smith that yes, got taken by the wind, and JOHNO
- 23:41Speaker 5: made an unbelievable one handed catch in traffic like it
- 23:44Speaker 5: should have been picked off three times it was. And
- 23:46Speaker 5: I think Bill said I ain't doing that again.
- 23:48Speaker 4: If he had never had like a good game again,
- 23:51Speaker 4: then maybe I would subscribe to that.
- 23:54Speaker 5: But like, just so you know, he's had what I
- 23:58Speaker 5: would call eight good games since then, in thirty three games,
- 24:02Speaker 5: which one is that Jacksonville, Yeah, Minnesota was one Jacksonville
- 24:06Speaker 5: has won. The Jets game was one down the stretch.
- 24:08Speaker 5: I would say the Buffalo game this year was one.
- 24:12Speaker 5: He He's had a passer rating of ninety five or
- 24:15Speaker 5: better eight times since since that that game.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I just think that he's shown that since that
- 24:23Speaker 4: game that he is capable of playing I don't know
- 24:27Speaker 4: what you want to call it, like above average NFL
- 24:29Speaker 4: quarterback or whatever you want to call it.
- 24:30Speaker 5: And so if if he he.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Has shown it and flashes in certain games he just
- 24:37Speaker 4: named eight games, So if he hasn't done.
- 24:38Speaker 5: It, that he played good, if that game broke him,
- 24:43Speaker 5: then he would never have played good again. Like, yeah,
- 24:46Speaker 5: well broken, I mean, like, do you think he's broken now,
- 24:49Speaker 5: Like he's he has thrown a good pass.
- 24:51Speaker 4: No, he's like you can totally broken head.
- 24:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I totally agree, but I mean there are still
- 24:56Speaker 5: times where I was a good throw that third and
- 24:58Speaker 5: fifteen to DeVante Parker.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I just think the conditions in that game were extraordinary. Well,
- 25:04Speaker 1: I mean I was there.
- 25:05Speaker 5: It was wild, and I mean was why what was extraordinary?
- 25:09Speaker 5: But the wind was was Oh I thought you were
- 25:13Speaker 5: talking about Sunday. No no, no, no, okay, we're talking about
- 25:15Speaker 5: the Buffalo. Yes, no, I'm not telling you that I necessarily,
- 25:17Speaker 5: but I just thought it was the interesting But.
- 25:19Speaker 11: What but what was What's the implication that Mac was
- 25:22Speaker 11: so rattled that they wouldn't let him throw that they
- 25:24Speaker 11: just completely broke him.
- 25:25Speaker 5: And that was the day. That was the day, in fact,
- 25:28Speaker 5: he realized that the quarterback did I mean the coach
- 25:30Speaker 5: didn't have any faith in them, Like, I'm not telling
- 25:32Speaker 5: you it's true.
- 25:33Speaker 11: I'm just no, no, no, I'm just trying to process
- 25:35Speaker 11: the process, the dynamics of it all.
- 25:37Speaker 5: It was also the day that it was the facilitation.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Remember that. It was also the day that everyone said, oh,
- 25:45Speaker 1: the Patriots broke the Bills totally out coached.
- 25:47Speaker 5: And it was ridiculous. Bills never lost again.
- 25:51Speaker 1: I like the narrative.
- 25:53Speaker 5: To be fair, Buffalo hasn't won anything. Yeah, I know,
- 25:57Speaker 5: better than the past. Thing I loved the most, anything
- 26:00Speaker 5: is is just just a championship. That's the only thing
- 26:03Speaker 5: that qualifies as anything. I mean, they haven't even made us.
- 26:05Speaker 1: All I know is that they've been better than the
- 26:07Speaker 1: pay made the conference championship that year and they got destroyed.
- 26:10Speaker 5: Like, I what are you talking about? I know, it's
- 26:13Speaker 5: much better to be two and nine. It's great. This
- 26:16Speaker 5: is this way we could do. If only we could lose,
- 26:19Speaker 5: only we could go every year.
- 26:22Speaker 6: They're on the downward slide. We're already at the bottom,
- 26:24Speaker 6: like we were going on.
- 26:26Speaker 5: Where would you rather be? Where would you rather be?
- 26:29Speaker 5: Josh Allen?
- 26:30Speaker 6: I mean, regardless of the circumstances.
- 26:32Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 26:33Speaker 4: They have expectations and they are not being and I.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Would agree that as they say, I'm all for that
- 26:39Speaker 1: them not achieving their goals.
- 26:41Speaker 5: I love acting. If that makes you feel better about
- 26:43Speaker 5: being two and nine, go right ahead.
- 26:45Speaker 1: The windows doesn't make me feel better at all. I
- 26:47Speaker 1: would feel good about that. If the Patriots are undefeated,
- 26:49Speaker 1: I would be.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Thrilled to have lost the game that the Bills lost
- 26:52Speaker 5: the other day. It was the most entertaining game in
- 26:54Speaker 5: the NFL all year.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Well, I know you're secretly a Bills fan, but that's okay.
- 26:58Speaker 5: No, No, you're missing it. You're missing it. I haven't
- 27:02Speaker 5: seen an entertaining game in a year and a half.
- 27:04Speaker 5: That's what you're missing. Probably that Minnesota game on Thanksgiving
- 27:07Speaker 5: last year was the last entertaining game.
- 27:09Speaker 1: That The game this year was entertaining.
- 27:11Speaker 9: Come on, yeah, but not to that level.
- 27:13Speaker 5: There were one five it. I know you guys thought
- 27:16Speaker 5: there was a path. There wasn't.
- 27:17Speaker 9: It was over Fred.
- 27:19Speaker 8: You watch games like that Bill's Eagles game, and it's
- 27:22Speaker 8: like a palate cleanser it's almost like this is you.
- 27:25Speaker 5: Can score, you're allowed to score.
- 27:27Speaker 11: Yeah, do you think they should fire McDermott?
- 27:30Speaker 6: I mean, is that like depend the right to.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Depends on how they finished the season. But yeah, I
- 27:34Speaker 5: think right now if you're asking me, yeah, I wouldn't.
- 27:37Speaker 5: But I think you're probably in the NFL. You have to.
- 27:40Speaker 4: You don't make the playoffs, you have to. It's hard
- 27:42Speaker 4: to say that team has I don't care how to
- 27:43Speaker 4: way too much.
- 27:44Speaker 5: How yeah, I know, but Evans, but it's still way
- 27:47Speaker 5: too much time.
- 27:48Speaker 11: You know where you feel like you caught a little
- 27:49Speaker 11: something and I know it's fading right now of what
- 27:51Speaker 11: that magic was, but you know, just to to I mean,
- 27:54Speaker 11: I feel like you're.
- 27:54Speaker 5: They got screwed it.
- 27:55Speaker 6: You're kind of throwing it up to the win.
- 27:57Speaker 1: But if you well I don't want this to turn
- 27:59Speaker 1: into you know, Bills dot Com. But if you get
- 28:02Speaker 1: rid of McDermott and you feel like you're closed, that's
- 28:04Speaker 1: why you have to bring in And that's why I.
- 28:06Speaker 11: Wouldn't do it right right well, that's but that's I mean,
- 28:08Speaker 11: tie this to what we're going through right now, and
- 28:10Speaker 11: you know, like no, no, I know, but but but
- 28:13Speaker 11: the things that go into deciding to move on from
- 28:15Speaker 11: a head coach and the implications for the team and
- 28:17Speaker 11: what they've built and kind of the identity that they
- 28:19Speaker 11: built around that coach. And you know, look, it's probably
- 28:22Speaker 11: the right decision, but it's still got to be a
- 28:24Speaker 11: little bit scary to you know. Can you imagine it
- 28:26Speaker 11: twenty ten switching out the head coach with even Brady?
- 28:28Speaker 6: I mean, you know, probably would have worked out.
- 28:30Speaker 11: Okay, they probably would have still been a really good team,
- 28:32Speaker 11: but I just you know, you don't know, are these
- 28:35Speaker 11: things are kind of fluid and all you take that
- 28:37Speaker 11: head coach, just.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Wonder what does the defense look like? Yah?
- 28:41Speaker 4: I think I always I love this comparison, Like remember
- 28:44Speaker 4: Mark Jackson with the Warriors.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Probably not I you just look at me with that.
- 28:50Speaker 5: I do, but I didn't think he was a good coach.
- 28:51Speaker 4: So Mark Jackson with the Warriors and then they bring
- 28:53Speaker 4: in Steve Kerr and then they become the Warriors, right, Like,
- 28:57Speaker 4: is Sean McDermott the guy that got the.
- 28:59Speaker 5: Bills this far? Absolutely?
- 29:01Speaker 4: And then they need the guy to put them over
- 29:03Speaker 4: the top. That's what I wonder if I'm on Buffalo, right,
- 29:06Speaker 4: But he's but guy, but he's not a winning coach
- 29:10Speaker 4: in the player.
- 29:10Speaker 5: He can't get over that. And I do think that
- 29:12Speaker 5: he has some choke to him. McDermott specifically, like I
- 29:17Speaker 5: think I think the decision to kneel on the ball
- 29:20Speaker 5: with twenty seconds left was absurd, and I think that's
- 29:23Speaker 5: a coach that was afraid, you know, because now he's saying, well,
- 29:27Speaker 5: if I just go to overtime and we lose an overtime,
- 29:29Speaker 5: that's not on it. But if I go out there
- 29:31Speaker 5: and were slinging around and you know Allen has turned
- 29:33Speaker 5: the ball over, if he turns it over, that's on me.
- 29:36Speaker 5: What am I doing? Like to me, you know what
- 29:38Speaker 5: I would have done. I would have run a draw
- 29:40Speaker 5: and see if I can get a cheap twenty yards,
- 29:42Speaker 5: call time out, then let him let one rip and
- 29:45Speaker 5: then kick a field goal if I can. I mean,
- 29:47Speaker 5: what what what? Running a draw pretty much takes away
- 29:51Speaker 5: that turnover fear, you know, like that Javon Holland. By
- 29:55Speaker 5: the way, you see that Freddy no pick six on
- 29:57Speaker 5: a hail Mary.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, nine yard?
- 30:00Speaker 5: Yeah. I never saw and I can't.
- 30:03Speaker 8: Remember who it was from, but they were like fred
- 30:06Speaker 8: is probably on his couch right now watching this happen,
- 30:09Speaker 8: and it's probably getting a great kick out of it.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yeah, only the Jets.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I don't get a good kick out of any of
- 30:16Speaker 4: it anymore. No, I'm in a dark room. I can't
- 30:19Speaker 4: just I honestly checked out. I want you to remind
- 30:22Speaker 4: me tomorrow and Thursday. I need to go easy.
- 30:24Speaker 5: My boy. He came in. I can't come at him.
- 30:27Speaker 11: He came in today after his film study, and I
- 30:29Speaker 11: was just like, I can't come at him this week.
- 30:30Speaker 5: He's doing.
- 30:31Speaker 6: How you doing, buddy?
- 30:32Speaker 10: All right?
- 30:32Speaker 6: Watching him film yesterday? Fine?
- 30:35Speaker 5: Well after.
- 30:37Speaker 9: Is broken.
- 30:38Speaker 1: You're lucky that Kyle van Noy isn't on this team.
- 30:41Speaker 1: He'd be coming at you, right. Did you see the
- 30:42Speaker 1: film study and he was.
- 30:44Speaker 5: Right by the way. Yeah, I didn't even know. Yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 5: I saw the first down the center because he was
- 30:48Speaker 5: it was clearly what he was supposed to do.
- 30:50Speaker 4: I would not I would not have said what Armando
- 30:52Speaker 4: Sell got whatever?
- 30:54Speaker 6: The come on Miller learned how to pass rush No.
- 30:57Speaker 5: But I didn't see I didn't van Ney's response to it.
- 31:03Speaker 5: I saw just the thing and I looked and I
- 31:05Speaker 5: was like, that's clearly a play, And I don't know
- 31:07Speaker 5: anything game.
- 31:09Speaker 4: So that's clearly a play that reship with with Kyle
- 31:13Speaker 4: van Noy. Yeah, he came up to me one time
- 31:15Speaker 4: and he was like, oh, you're you're the guy that
- 31:16Speaker 4: always posts our clips on on Twitter. And he's like
- 31:19Speaker 4: I was like yeah, yeah, and he was like, you know,
- 31:23Speaker 4: you're not always right, but like you're on the right
- 31:26Speaker 4: track and you know you don't know the play call,
- 31:28Speaker 4: so yeah, and then yeah, and and then he became
- 31:32Speaker 4: famous because he was, you know, on a super Bowl team.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Never talked to me again.
- 31:36Speaker 5: He talked, He talked to me. Unfortunately, he didn't.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Like, Yeah, Kyle, Kyle has rabbit ears.
- 31:45Speaker 5: He definitely does.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Well, the fact that he even knew that I was
- 31:47Speaker 4: posting stuff on Twitter told me that he had.
- 31:51Speaker 6: Watching.
- 31:52Speaker 1: So here we are.
- 31:53Speaker 5: But I do wonder, you know, back to Mike's original
- 31:56Speaker 5: point with Bill, Okay, I do wonder how much we
- 32:00Speaker 5: fix it on is Robert Craft going to make a move.
- 32:04Speaker 5: I wonder how much Bill Belichick wants out of Robert Craft.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:08Speaker 8: I could see him wanting to do it versus like
- 32:10Speaker 8: the other way around, just because one it looks better
- 32:13Speaker 8: if he steps away and decides to focus on his
- 32:15Speaker 8: family or whatever.
- 32:18Speaker 9: Yeah, I think it looks.
- 32:19Speaker 8: Better if he does it, and I think he wants
- 32:21Speaker 8: to be in his control, like in it on his time.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Sure.
- 32:25Speaker 5: Do you think he wants to coach somewhere next year?
- 32:28Speaker 6: Yes?
- 32:29Speaker 1: I think so. He wants to keep coaching.
- 32:32Speaker 8: I just I don't know if I would want him
- 32:34Speaker 8: like Okay for examples, I think he wants to need
- 32:37Speaker 8: a head coach.
- 32:38Speaker 9: Would you go after him?
- 32:39Speaker 5: That's different who I think coach Pan.
- 32:42Speaker 1: I'd sit down with him, now I would not I
- 32:44Speaker 1: talk to him.
- 32:45Speaker 5: I think the Panthers are one of the few teams
- 32:46Speaker 5: that would give him everything he wants.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Mistake the pants I think any team that's looking for
- 32:52Speaker 1: a coach would make a mistake to at least not
- 32:54Speaker 1: have a sit down with him, an extensive sit down.
- 32:56Speaker 1: And what's going on there? Why you know that Bill.
- 33:00Speaker 4: Should be going to And again I I have I
- 33:04Speaker 4: don't know about the Buffalo, but Buffalo, the Chargers, like
- 33:08Speaker 4: these teams that are that are literally just a guy
- 33:11Speaker 4: that can teach them how to win late in fourth
- 33:13Speaker 4: quarter games with a quarterback already in place and an
- 33:15Speaker 4: offense that's already good and all everything already set up
- 33:18Speaker 4: for him. So all he has to do is come
- 33:20Speaker 4: in and fix some things on the margins and make
- 33:23Speaker 4: them a super Bowl team.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Well, think about it. It's it's the exact thing that
- 33:26Speaker 1: Brady did. He went to a place that had the weapons.
- 33:30Speaker 1: They added maybe one or two more.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Were comparing Tampa to Buffalo.
- 33:33Speaker 4: No but and he you know, but maybe the Chargers
- 33:37Speaker 4: when he fished.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Some culture and they won, and you know, Bill's probably thinking,
- 33:41Speaker 1: I can do that.
- 33:42Speaker 9: Just I could also see.
- 33:46Speaker 5: Brady did in Tampa.
- 33:47Speaker 9: I could also see some people leaving.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Well, he doesn't play quarterback, he would not have won
- 33:51Speaker 5: with that team.
- 33:52Speaker 8: I could also see people and not wanting to stay
- 33:56Speaker 8: like someone like Digs I would.
- 33:58Speaker 9: I would not be surprised if he's like, oh I'm out,
- 33:59Speaker 9: Oh yeah, me too much?
- 34:02Speaker 5: Right, Screw is actually tied to them. I think you're right.
- 34:07Speaker 5: I think there's be a lot of players in that
- 34:08Speaker 5: locker room that would feel like that. I just think
- 34:10Speaker 5: that if you're with Bill, you know the two biggest.
- 34:15Speaker 4: Things that I you know, in my dark room, then
- 34:17Speaker 4: I'm trying to think they're all these things troubling. Number One,
- 34:21Speaker 4: I question if his style of coaching is dead and
- 34:26Speaker 4: if it's just in so many different levels, like their
- 34:30Speaker 4: offensive system to me is extinct. It's it's extinct. The
- 34:34Speaker 4: media came it hit the boom, We're done, Like you
- 34:38Speaker 4: can't run an offense. I don't think anymore in today's
- 34:42Speaker 4: NFL that puts this much on the quarterback.
- 34:44Speaker 5: I think I think putting four passes beyond five yards
- 34:48Speaker 5: downfield is that's a low number in an NFL game
- 34:51Speaker 5: this year?
- 34:51Speaker 1: Well wait a minute now, but I.
- 34:52Speaker 4: Want's attempting talking about what he's talking about. It's different
- 34:57Speaker 4: than attempting them, but in drawing the plays that you
- 35:01Speaker 4: know they're they're deeper throws down the field that it
- 35:04Speaker 4: was supposed to happen.
- 35:05Speaker 1: But I think that's the league. I think every team
- 35:08Speaker 1: that's great, it's all on their quarterback. Jalen Hurts, Josh
- 35:12Speaker 1: Allen Mahomes. I don't think that there's as they go,
- 35:15Speaker 1: so does the offense.
- 35:16Speaker 4: But I'm not talking about like the what you're talking about.
- 35:20Speaker 4: I'm talking about the fact that you know, the very
- 35:23Speaker 4: first third down of the game on Sunday, do you
- 35:26Speaker 4: go watch the pre snap just mess that happens before
- 35:30Speaker 4: the ball is snapped.
- 35:31Speaker 1: But is that the offense.
- 35:33Speaker 4: No, that's the offense. The offense is it's all on
- 35:35Speaker 4: the quarterback. Like the quarterback has to come to the
- 35:38Speaker 4: line of scrimmage and he had mac he's pumping this
- 35:41Speaker 4: way to the receivers to change the routes and he's
- 35:43Speaker 4: killed killed and then all of a sudden how much.
- 35:48Speaker 4: And then they go to snap the football and it's
- 35:50Speaker 4: delay a game. And then the snap is like the
- 35:52Speaker 4: worst snap I've ever seen David Andrews have in his career.
- 35:56Speaker 5: All because all of it is just But I'm gonna
- 36:00Speaker 5: I'm gonna ask this and I obviously don't know, but
- 36:03Speaker 5: I'm gonna go on what Fred's talking about, Like so
- 36:06Speaker 5: with Max a couple of billets. So are you sure
- 36:09Speaker 5: that all of this is supposed to be happening? Yes,
- 36:12Speaker 5: he's not that.
- 36:14Speaker 4: No, the entire defense at the line of scrimmage is
- 36:18Speaker 4: from the protections on down. The quarterback is in complete
- 36:22Speaker 4: control of everything at the line of scrimmage. These other teams,
- 36:26Speaker 4: you know, the Shanahan offense, for example, they they.
- 36:30Speaker 5: Don't line shot. No, but it's not they don't.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Have the quarterback set protections at the line of scrimmage.
- 36:38Speaker 4: He's not remiking he's not flipping protections, he's not moving guys.
- 36:43Speaker 4: That's not how they do things. When they get to
- 36:46Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage. Brock Purty obviously does his surveillance
- 36:50Speaker 4: of the field. If they send a blitz that they're
- 36:52Speaker 4: not expecting, he just throws hot.
- 36:54Speaker 1: See, I'm gonna push back because either either you're right,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and if you're right than when Bailey Zappi went into
- 37:02Speaker 1: the second half, they told him to do it differently.
- 37:04Speaker 5: They didn't.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Bailey Zappi came in in the second half, and there
- 37:07Speaker 4: were examples of me, you know, writing down I'm watching it.
- 37:10Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't know if this protection was blown
- 37:13Speaker 4: because Bailey blew it, or I'm gonna you you.
- 37:16Speaker 5: Didn't think it looked better in the second half.
- 37:18Speaker 1: No, I'm but I'm saying I didn't see the orchestration
- 37:21Speaker 1: pre snap.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Oh sure may yeah, as much as what Mac was, Yes,
- 37:25Speaker 4: But I I just think the difference is I can't
- 37:28Speaker 4: tell you who is at fall. Most of the time
- 37:31Speaker 4: I stare on the side of David Andrews is probably
- 37:34Speaker 4: right because he's David Andrews, been doing it for a decade, right,
- 37:37Speaker 4: But at the same time, you go watch that play
- 37:40Speaker 4: where Bailey Zappy I had to like break out of
- 37:42Speaker 4: his sack and he ends up flipping it to Ramondre Stevenson.
- 37:45Speaker 4: He does that because Ramandra Stevenson and David Andrews blocked
- 37:48Speaker 4: the same guy and then an unblocked runner comes from
- 37:51Speaker 4: the other side. That to me, if based off of
- 37:54Speaker 4: how they run their offense, that that's on the quarterback,
- 37:57Speaker 4: Like the quarterback is responsible for setting the protect at
- 38:00Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage, and the fact that two guys
- 38:02Speaker 4: went to the same guy tells me that he didn't
- 38:05Speaker 4: set the mic point properly.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Because I'm sure David Andrews wasn't wrong.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Well, if that's the case, if you're correct there, then
- 38:12Speaker 1: I think that that's negligence than the part of the
- 38:14Speaker 1: coaching staff, because clearly you've got a guy who his
- 38:18Speaker 1: brain is mush right now, and to continue to put
- 38:21Speaker 1: that on him is setting him up to fail.
- 38:23Speaker 4: I just don't think based off of the history of
- 38:27Speaker 4: this offense, whether it's here without Brady or it's traveling
- 38:31Speaker 4: without Brady with Josh McDaniels or whoever, I don't think
- 38:35Speaker 4: the history of this offense tells you that anybody can
- 38:37Speaker 4: do it besides Brady.
- 38:40Speaker 5: So well done, Rex.
- 38:42Speaker 4: So he's the only guy that has been able to
- 38:45Speaker 4: run this offense and do all the chess match, all
- 38:49Speaker 4: the field general stuff at the line of scrimmage before
- 38:51Speaker 4: the ball is snapped, and then execute the post snap reads,
- 38:55Speaker 4: which I like, I can get into all of that
- 38:57Speaker 4: too when you start to talk about route can versions
- 39:00Speaker 4: and reading safety shells and coverage rotation and all that
- 39:03Speaker 4: kind of stuff at the quarterback has to do. Oh
- 39:06Speaker 4: and then you have to go play ball, Like then
- 39:08Speaker 4: you have to go make plays on top of all
- 39:10Speaker 4: of that, and.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Well you have to have to do what Brady did.
- 39:14Speaker 1: You have to have that beautiful mind, like he said,
- 39:16Speaker 1: he has all the answers, you know, like he's he
- 39:20Speaker 1: sees things in a way that others don't. Like, It's
- 39:23Speaker 1: just he sees it in one complete picture, you know,
- 39:27Speaker 1: and it's almost like he doesn't have to go through
- 39:28Speaker 1: a progression. He knows what's going to happen before it happens,
- 39:32Speaker 1: you know. So like, but he's one of a kind.
- 39:34Speaker 1: And to think that others can do that, whether it's
- 39:38Speaker 1: Bailey Zappi or Mac Jones, I think is negligence.
- 39:40Speaker 4: That's that's my point. And I think that this offense
- 39:43Speaker 4: as a whole, the way that they run it, especially
- 39:46Speaker 4: from a pre snap standpoint, is too cumbersome on the quarterback.
- 39:50Speaker 1: I can't believe that their expect their expectation is is
- 39:53Speaker 1: to do that.
- 39:53Speaker 5: But they all say it, and they all said it
- 39:56Speaker 5: in the summer that there's a lot on the quarterback here. Yeah,
- 39:58Speaker 5: in his system.
- 39:59Speaker 11: I just want last year it was simplifying the offense,
- 40:02Speaker 11: you know, is that were they trying to get away
- 40:05Speaker 11: from this stuff? Did they go back to it this year?
- 40:07Speaker 11: Are I still trying to simplify that?
- 40:08Speaker 4: I think they were trying to get away from it.
- 40:10Speaker 4: And I think that the big thing is as we
- 40:12Speaker 4: spin it forward, like this is more about spinning forward.
- 40:14Speaker 4: And I know some people are gonna take this as
- 40:17Speaker 4: me making excuses for Mac. Mainly, what I'm trying to
- 40:20Speaker 4: say is that Mac Jones, you know, Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo,
- 40:27Speaker 4: where the quarterbacks in Denver with Josh McDaniels, the quarterbacks
- 40:30Speaker 4: with the Rams with Josh McDaniels, like, they've all failed
- 40:33Speaker 4: trying to run this offense. They've all failed. And when
- 40:37Speaker 4: you start to spin it forward, they need a new
- 40:40Speaker 4: offensive system, Like that's the where I'm at with it,
- 40:44Speaker 4: where the details have to be so meticulously executed in
- 40:48Speaker 4: this offense to string a drive together that it's too
- 40:52Speaker 4: it's too hard.
- 40:53Speaker 1: So do you think a different system would make Mac better?
- 40:57Speaker 5: Mac? Particularly?
- 40:59Speaker 4: Yes, I think he's too far gone, okay, But in general, let's.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Go let's go back a year. Would a better system
- 41:06Speaker 1: have made have made Mac better back then?
- 41:09Speaker 5: Maybe?
- 41:09Speaker 4: And I just look at it, like I said, you know,
- 41:12Speaker 4: Drake May, Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, like whoever it is
- 41:17Speaker 4: it ends up being. I just don't think it's it's
- 41:21Speaker 4: right to put those guys in this off No.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Absolutely not. I mean that's they're not using the talents
- 41:25Speaker 1: of those guys if they do that.
- 41:27Speaker 5: I can't comment on all the mental stress that the
- 41:31Speaker 5: quarterback is under. And I think everything Evan says makes
- 41:34Speaker 5: a lot of sense to me. That is definitely falling
- 41:37Speaker 5: in line with some of the talks that I remember
- 41:38Speaker 5: from the summer when we had some of our production
- 41:41Speaker 5: meetings and my buddy James Ferrence, I told you it
- 41:43Speaker 5: was really forthcoming about how similar the offenses are all
- 41:47Speaker 5: all three years. But they put a lot on the quarterback.
- 41:51Speaker 5: But but my biggest issue with the offer at least talent.
- 41:53Speaker 1: The less talent you have, the more you have to
- 41:55Speaker 1: put on players to do things exactly right. When you
- 41:58Speaker 1: have guys that are just faster, well, I don't have
- 42:00Speaker 1: to worry about that.
- 42:01Speaker 5: I think the offense is antiquated, as Evan said, because
- 42:05Speaker 5: I don't think you can just set it up the
- 42:07Speaker 5: way they want to set it up and expect to win.
- 42:09Speaker 5: I don't think you can run the ball. You know,
- 42:13Speaker 5: let's just run the ball. We'll use a slot receiver
- 42:16Speaker 5: and you know, see if we can, you know, make
- 42:20Speaker 5: enough plays to go down the field and go eleven
- 42:23Speaker 5: plays for sixty yards and seven minutes. That represents the
- 42:27Speaker 5: success that you had seven minutes to go sixty yards.
- 42:30Speaker 5: That's like that looked like the Bears last night, who
- 42:33Speaker 5: also have no offense, you know, and they actually put
- 42:36Speaker 5: together some drives last night. But it was it was
- 42:38Speaker 5: so hard, like everything was so hard.
- 42:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I just look at you know, so many different examples,
- 42:44Speaker 4: and I know, like Badard says the same thing about, oh.
- 42:46Speaker 5: This guy didn't run the right route.
- 42:49Speaker 4: When I watch other team's film, there's no, it's not
- 42:53Speaker 4: that ambiguous, you know what I mean, Like it's not
- 42:55Speaker 4: like there's not that much.
- 42:56Speaker 5: I think the system is hard.
- 42:58Speaker 4: And so like Tamaro Douglas, like you know, it's running
- 43:02Speaker 4: a deep hitch and he opens the wrong way. Mac
- 43:04Speaker 4: throws it to his outside shoulder, he opens to the
- 43:07Speaker 4: inside and it's an incomplete pass. And it just those
- 43:10Speaker 4: things I just don't see happening on other other tapes
- 43:13Speaker 4: around the NFL offensively, and all the details in this
- 43:16Speaker 4: offense right now, the spacing, the timing of the routes,
- 43:19Speaker 4: you know, the way the routes convert. All this kind
- 43:21Speaker 4: of stuff is just broken.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Like all of it is just terrible.
- 43:25Speaker 4: And I just wonder if maybe you know, I look
- 43:28Speaker 4: at these other teams and a big part of it
- 43:30Speaker 4: is because of the speed that they have on the
- 43:31Speaker 4: field that Patriots don't have. But they play the game
- 43:34Speaker 4: in space, like the game is played in pockets of
- 43:37Speaker 4: space for these other offenses, where that the Patriots, it
- 43:40Speaker 4: feels like everything is played in a bogged down, contested
- 43:44Speaker 4: window and there's never any space. And I just think
- 43:48Speaker 4: that all of that ties together, but yet what.
- 43:51Speaker 1: That that no? But to me that's because that's the
- 43:53Speaker 1: way defenses play us because they can go man to
- 43:55Speaker 1: man and not have.
- 43:56Speaker 5: To wear it. But like the offense that was on
- 44:00Speaker 5: the field on Sunday is largely what they envisioned in
- 44:03Speaker 5: say May. They had all the guys that the only
- 44:07Speaker 5: one that wasn't part of it was Born and Bourne
- 44:09Speaker 5: was an afterthought to them. Bourne was like a third
- 44:12Speaker 5: or fourth receiver for them. They wanted Parker and Juju,
- 44:16Speaker 5: but teams they probably hoped for Taekwon Rimandre Stevenson. Four
- 44:20Speaker 5: fifths of your offensive line, I would and I think
- 44:23Speaker 5: SO is actually played well, that's a bonus, right the
- 44:26Speaker 5: lay games. I think SO has been better than Riley
- 44:28Speaker 5: Reef was gonna be. But Team SO you had your
- 44:30Speaker 5: offensive line and I'm get personnel, but that's what they
- 44:36Speaker 5: This is what I'm saying is antiquated. Fred. That's the
- 44:39Speaker 5: kinds of outside guys they want. We don't want. We
- 44:42Speaker 5: don't want these divas. We don't want these guys that
- 44:44Speaker 5: want the ball. We don't want these playmakers that are
- 44:47Speaker 5: gonna be like so much. And I know, Mike, you're
- 44:49Speaker 5: only you know, half serious with the Stefan digs. You'd
- 44:52Speaker 5: love Stefan Diggs. I'm just teasing you, like, we don't
- 44:54Speaker 5: want aj Brown, who you know in week four is
- 44:58Speaker 5: going to go three quarters but to target, he's gonna
- 45:01Speaker 5: put up a tie right on the sideline. Yeah, I
- 45:03Speaker 5: know he will. That's what those guys do. But you
- 45:05Speaker 5: know what the other ten games, he's gonna catch ten
- 45:08Speaker 5: for the probably right of course he was. I would
- 45:11Speaker 5: also to your point, So they don't want that. I
- 45:14Speaker 5: tweeted this out last night. The Patriots offensively right now
- 45:18Speaker 5: overall their sixteenth in EPA as a rush rushing offense.
- 45:22Speaker 5: Since Week six, they're number two in the league. I
- 45:24Speaker 5: saw you. They have the number one.
- 45:26Speaker 4: Run defense in the NFL right now. They're the best
- 45:28Speaker 4: run defense in the NFL. So they run the ball
- 45:30Speaker 4: well and they stopped the run well in twenty twenty three.
- 45:33Speaker 4: That means crap, It means two and nine. It means nothing.
- 45:36Speaker 4: And that's their whole mantra in there is we're a
- 45:39Speaker 4: tough team. We're gonna stop the run, we're gonna run
- 45:41Speaker 4: the ball, we're gonna cover kicks. That gets you to
- 45:44Speaker 4: two and nine. Now you know you're your thirtieth in
- 45:47Speaker 4: pass EPA, your twenty seventh in EPA pass allowed. So
- 45:51Speaker 4: you're top bottom five in passing on both sides of
- 45:53Speaker 4: the football, and that's the league.
- 45:55Speaker 5: Like that, that's the game. I didn't say it the
- 45:57Speaker 5: way you.
- 45:57Speaker 12: Tweeted it, unfortunately, it's it's two right, Like you're you're
- 46:02Speaker 12: just you're an antiquated operation right now, like maybe twenty
- 46:05Speaker 12: years ago, you you would have you would be a
- 46:07Speaker 12: better football team because you run the ball well, and
- 46:10Speaker 12: you're tough up front, and you cover kicks and like
- 46:12Speaker 12: all this kind of stuff doesn't work anymore.
- 46:14Speaker 11: I wish we could get more of the opposing defenses
- 46:16Speaker 11: talking about just like how easy they are to defend, Like,
- 46:18Speaker 11: you know, we used to get those quotes a little
- 46:20Speaker 11: bit more, but it's always insightful, especially in stuff like
- 46:22Speaker 11: this where you know, they're just not giving us a
- 46:24Speaker 11: lot to worry about. Frankly, right, we just kind of
- 46:26Speaker 11: get up on them and right force them.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Because no space needs to be given.
- 46:31Speaker 11: I love the way you put it, which which just
- 46:33Speaker 11: like congest. I forget exactly what the phrase was, but
- 46:35Speaker 11: that you know, that's what.
- 46:36Speaker 1: It always feels like.
- 46:37Speaker 11: It's just he's throwing into like this mish moss of
- 46:39Speaker 11: like seven guys all crossing at once, and like you know,
- 46:42Speaker 11: he's trying to like get it right through the window.
- 46:44Speaker 5: They're constantly trying to thread the needle. Yeah, like with
- 46:47Speaker 5: everything that you know, if if we do this, and
- 46:49Speaker 5: we do that, and we do this, and then maybe
- 46:51Speaker 5: the other team makes a mistake and that we can
- 46:52Speaker 5: score a touchdown. Like that's that's what their offense relies on.
- 46:57Speaker 5: To your point, Fred, like you know that's the way.
- 47:00Speaker 5: I guess it's a chicken or egg thing, Like can
- 47:03Speaker 5: teams do that to this team? Can they play defensively
- 47:07Speaker 5: the way they do against this team because the players
- 47:10Speaker 5: aren't good enough, which I would say is accurate or
- 47:13Speaker 5: is it because of the system that is set up
- 47:15Speaker 5: and that's what they want the players to do. So
- 47:17Speaker 5: it doesn't really matter how good the players are because
- 47:20Speaker 5: they're gonna be crunched down. And Evan's right, they had opportunities.
- 47:25Speaker 5: They dialed up plays that called for things to go
- 47:27Speaker 5: down the field the other day and either he didn't
- 47:29Speaker 5: throw it down the field or didn't material I'm sure
- 47:32Speaker 5: it's not but they don't do it a lot.
- 47:34Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure they would prefer that the receivers
- 47:37Speaker 1: break free and get open.
- 47:38Speaker 5: I would prefer they don't, but I would prefer them
- 47:41Speaker 5: go and get receivers who can break free and get open.
- 47:44Speaker 5: They don't. They prefer this.
- 47:46Speaker 11: Yeah, well that was There's an example that I brought up.
- 47:48Speaker 11: We were talking about it on the way down, and
- 47:50Speaker 11: I wish I could tell you exactly which play.
- 47:52Speaker 6: It was one of the third down plays.
- 47:53Speaker 11: But I think it was Mac tried to target Thornton
- 47:55Speaker 11: coming on the far outside left and there's you know,
- 47:58Speaker 11: the defenses in cover one. They've got a safety in
- 48:00Speaker 11: the middle of the field, and it's like Thornton gets
- 48:02Speaker 11: off the line, he's even with the guy and it's
- 48:04Speaker 11: you know, nothing but space in front of him. Use
- 48:07Speaker 11: your speed, this is what you're here for. And he
- 48:09Speaker 11: bends it into the coverage and I mean it's just
- 48:12Speaker 11: again a mish mash.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Would raise his head and I'm going, I'm going it.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Was a Zappi throw and the linebacker underneath Zappi stared
- 48:23Speaker 4: it down and he almost picked it.
- 48:25Speaker 5: Like, yeah, that one, I just uh.
- 48:29Speaker 4: Zappi's interception, I think is a perfect example of all
- 48:32Speaker 4: of this. So Xavier McKinny is playing post safety on
- 48:35Speaker 4: that play, and there's a vertical route that's supposed to
- 48:38Speaker 4: occupy Xavier McKinney, but McKinny just has no fear whatsoever
- 48:43Speaker 4: that DeVante Parker is going to get targeted on that post.
- 48:46Speaker 4: So he just shoots out of a cannon right to
- 48:49Speaker 4: the crosser. You know, I loved what Zappi said after
- 48:51Speaker 4: the game. He said he snipered it, which I'm gonna
- 48:52Speaker 4: use forever now. That's awesome. So he snipers it from
- 48:56Speaker 4: the middle of the field. Other if there's any rest
- 49:00Speaker 4: for the post whatsoever, then he has to stay back
- 49:03Speaker 4: and he has to play it. But because they just
- 49:05Speaker 4: don't fear anything over the top with this offense, he's
- 49:08Speaker 4: able to sniper it and then all of a sudden,
- 49:11Speaker 4: Juju would have been open, you know, nine times out
- 49:14Speaker 4: of ten if the safety doesn't jump it.
- 49:16Speaker 1: But you know, was Zappy telegraphing it. I don't know.
- 49:19Speaker 4: He stared it down a little bit, but I don't
- 49:21Speaker 4: think that it was like the world's worst interception, is
- 49:24Speaker 4: my point.
- 49:24Speaker 5: I totally agree with this. Now, I don't think Zappi
- 49:27Speaker 5: did any you know, some people were like, oh, you
- 49:29Speaker 5: gotta you know, look better. It looked bad. It didn't
- 49:31Speaker 5: look better. They had even fuel yards in the second
- 49:33Speaker 5: half than they did in the first half. But I
- 49:37Speaker 5: also have seen people say that Zappi through the same
- 49:40Speaker 5: interception as Mac threw on the first one, and that's
- 49:43Speaker 5: not true. I agree with what Evan's saying here. I
- 49:46Speaker 5: thought McKinney made a good play to come off of
- 49:49Speaker 5: his guy and pick off a pass to Zappy. Now
- 49:52Speaker 5: I'm not telling you Zappi's absolved of that. He's you know,
- 49:56Speaker 5: as you get experience, you realize these guys make plays,
- 49:59Speaker 5: you know, and there's a good player. Matt Jones threw
- 50:02Speaker 5: the ball into it again a defensive team meeting and
- 50:05Speaker 5: one of them caught it. Like, I don't think it
- 50:08Speaker 5: was the same. I don't think it was the same
- 50:10Speaker 5: at all. And a lot of people on Twitter, no,
- 50:11Speaker 5: we're comparing the two. I didn't think it was this.
- 50:15Speaker 4: And to you know, further the point kind of to
- 50:18Speaker 4: Mike's point about the Taekwon play too. They threw like
- 50:22Speaker 4: at least eight to ten slants in this game and
- 50:25Speaker 4: completed none of them. And you look at these slants
- 50:29Speaker 4: and they're off coverage waiting for here.
- 50:32Speaker 5: They had one on third and fifteen right, they're.
- 50:35Speaker 4: Getting like eight yards of cushion on these plays. If
- 50:39Speaker 4: you can't run a three step slant against eight yards
- 50:41Speaker 4: of cushion in the NFL.
- 50:43Speaker 5: They passed over here though it's wild like even like
- 50:47Speaker 5: like I'll be all over Thornton because we haven't gotten
- 50:49Speaker 5: anything out of him. But you're running a slant. That's
- 50:51Speaker 5: the last thing you want to do is expose yourself
- 50:53Speaker 5: and do this.
- 50:54Speaker 4: Well he did that because Thornton just like did a
- 50:57Speaker 4: little at the top and like to forever to get
- 51:00Speaker 4: out of the route. But like in general, it just
- 51:03Speaker 4: if you have eight yards of cushion, if the play
- 51:05Speaker 4: corner is playing off man against you and you can't
- 51:08Speaker 4: get him to respect the vertical stem enough to open
- 51:12Speaker 4: up a slant three yards down the field, and then.
- 51:18Speaker 11: I know if he was just sitting there like like
- 51:21Speaker 11: it just looked like like they knew what was coming.
- 51:23Speaker 11: They were not threatened at all. I mean it happened
- 51:24Speaker 11: a lot. I mean Parker would like kind of stumbled
- 51:26Speaker 11: on one of.
- 51:27Speaker 5: Them too, like I don't know there was Dory Jackson
- 51:31Speaker 5: kept jumping on.
- 51:32Speaker 1: It wasn't a report, but I guess a lot of
- 51:34Speaker 1: people caught Juju yelling at Troy Brown, and they of us.
- 51:38Speaker 5: Know what that exchange according to the Twitter machine.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we don't know what that was about. Or well, did.
- 51:44Speaker 5: You guys see it?
- 51:45Speaker 1: No, I didn't see it.
- 51:46Speaker 5: You didn't see it either. I saw the I mean
- 51:49Speaker 5: the play.
- 51:50Speaker 4: It was on the Max after Max interception, the second one,
- 51:54Speaker 4: and uh, you know, Juju's open, like out of the slot,
- 51:57Speaker 4: but Max throwing hot there and you don't ever really
- 52:00Speaker 4: want to turn your back to the blitz.
- 52:02Speaker 1: I think Troy Brown says something to him and then
- 52:04Speaker 1: he snapped back.
- 52:05Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't know exactly what the exchange was,
- 52:07Speaker 5: but I haven't seen anybody report what it was about.
- 52:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I you know, there are a couple of times
- 52:12Speaker 4: in this game. Not to say that Juju was should
- 52:14Speaker 4: have had one hundred and fifty yards or something like that,
- 52:17Speaker 4: but there were definitely a couple of times in this
- 52:19Speaker 4: game where he looked open down the.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Fun It's just weird that on an interception, Why would
- 52:23Speaker 1: a receiver be yelling at the wide receivers coach?
- 52:26Speaker 5: You know, Yeah, I don't know.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Unless the wide receivers coach said that was your fault.
- 52:31Speaker 4: Troy wouldn't touch it. So I don't know. Someone asked
- 52:33Speaker 4: him about it this morning.
- 52:34Speaker 11: I don't know if you would agree with me. Maybe,
- 52:36Speaker 11: but I saw a little bit out of Juju, little
- 52:38Speaker 11: bit of movement skills in this game, just I mean,
- 52:40Speaker 11: nothing that translated, but just a couple of times I said,
- 52:43Speaker 11: it looks like he's moving on to more.
- 52:44Speaker 5: I'm thinking he would have been the guy that he
- 52:46Speaker 5: was last year had this offense been functional at all. Yeah,
- 52:49Speaker 5: Like I thought the fourth bound play was a good
- 52:51Speaker 5: play by Juju.
- 52:52Speaker 11: I wonder how healthy he's just been too, Like it's
- 52:54Speaker 11: like he's just getting healthier now and he's really finally getting.
- 52:57Speaker 5: That fighting anything. Like listen, his days of being a
- 52:59Speaker 5: die receiver long over. No, but I think he's better
- 53:03Speaker 5: than what you know, what does he have twenty kids?
- 53:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 53:05Speaker 11: Well, I just you try to be fair because you
- 53:07Speaker 11: kill these guys and it's like, you know, if you
- 53:09Speaker 11: do watch something that I mean, it was just one route.
- 53:11Speaker 11: They didn't even throw to him, but it was just
- 53:13Speaker 11: a nice twenty sudden cut and catches all season he has.
- 53:17Speaker 4: Yeah, he was open on a few crossing round average
- 53:19Speaker 4: in six years as well.
- 53:21Speaker 5: One of them.
- 53:22Speaker 4: Mac checked down early on in the game that I
- 53:24Speaker 4: thought there was a bigger play on the field to
- 53:26Speaker 4: Juju on the second level crosser, and then I thought
- 53:30Speaker 4: he had a chance on the play that Zappi was
- 53:33Speaker 4: sacked on two in the second half, that if Zappi
- 53:37Speaker 4: just kind of threw it up to him, it's NFL
- 53:40Speaker 4: open type of situation where if you have any trust
- 53:42Speaker 4: in each other, you kind of just put it up
- 53:44Speaker 4: there and let your guy make a play on the ball.
- 53:46Speaker 4: But clearly we're well beyond having trust in anybody in
- 53:50Speaker 4: this offense. And I think that just goes back to
- 53:52Speaker 4: my general takeaway from this was that this offense looked
- 53:56Speaker 4: like an offense that split fifty to fifty quarterback reps
- 53:58Speaker 4: in practice, Like it looked like I wrote an offense
- 54:01Speaker 4: that I didn't know who their quarterback was going to be.
- 54:04Speaker 4: And all of that, to me is is on the
- 54:06Speaker 4: head coach like he and it's wasted energy.
- 54:09Speaker 5: The ruse was all it was for nothing?
- 54:12Speaker 8: Do we do we believe the reports that Bill Belichick
- 54:16Speaker 8: knew Mac was the starter all week long, like and
- 54:18Speaker 8: the team knew allegedly.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Like according to like I've heard both things.
- 54:22Speaker 9: Andre and Ze like they knew all week.
- 54:25Speaker 1: I've heard both.
- 54:25Speaker 5: I've heard I've heard I've heard both. But I but
- 54:28Speaker 5: I also believe that he did allow Zappi to take
- 54:31Speaker 5: a lot of reps during the year.
- 54:33Speaker 1: But I but I think that Mac was still going first.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I understand Mac had the majority of the reps and
- 54:38Speaker 1: that it was clear that he was the starter.
- 54:41Speaker 9: And then also to sit him down.
- 54:42Speaker 8: I thought it was interesting what Bill O'Brien said today
- 54:44Speaker 8: that like, you know, he doesn't make that call, that
- 54:46Speaker 8: it's Robert than Bill then the assistance. I thought that
- 54:49Speaker 8: was interesting because I'm like, do you think Robert would
- 54:51Speaker 8: really be in charge of sitting Mac?
- 54:53Speaker 5: Yeah? Bill wute. Bill O'Brien said that Robert was involved
- 54:57Speaker 5: in decision.
- 54:58Speaker 9: There's a chain of command. It goes Robert, then Build.
- 55:01Speaker 5: But not me. But not that could not have been
- 55:03Speaker 5: related to taken out of the game and the game.
- 55:05Speaker 8: He said, I don't make those calls. There's a chain
- 55:08Speaker 8: of command. The chance of command is Robert at the top,
- 55:10Speaker 8: then Build.
- 55:11Speaker 5: But what was the question on if he if he
- 55:13Speaker 5: can make.
- 55:14Speaker 9: The call to sit Mac this week?
- 55:15Speaker 5: And okay, I'm talking about during the.
- 55:17Speaker 8: Game, Noah, But even then, that's still weird.
- 55:20Speaker 9: I think Robert is not.
- 55:22Speaker 1: It's still weird, and I wonder like what he meant
- 55:24Speaker 1: by that, Like just in the organization, it's Robert Bill Yeah.
- 55:28Speaker 5: And I'm envisioning like Robert on the sell. I think
- 55:32Speaker 5: a lot of people are, you know.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Even if it's during the week, If the owner of
- 55:37Speaker 1: any team is making practice decisions, that's bad.
- 55:41Speaker 4: No, I think people are looking way too much into
- 55:43Speaker 4: him mentioning mister Craft a couple of times last couple
- 55:47Speaker 4: of weeks, right, honestly.
- 55:48Speaker 1: I agree, Yeah, at least I hope. So all right,
- 55:51Speaker 1: eight five five Pats five hundred is the a sticket houtline,
- 55:54Speaker 1: web radio at pages dot com is the email address
- 55:59Speaker 1: to talk about You've got to figure this out and
- 56:02Speaker 1: then get our report back to the front office.
- 56:04Speaker 4: I'm not sure about passioned.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Eddie's in LA.
- 56:07Speaker 5: What's up Eddy? I'm gonna tell you alright, but do
- 56:15Speaker 5: you go to Aaron first?
- 56:16Speaker 1: All right, Aaron's in Connecticut? What's up?
- 56:18Speaker 5: Aaron?
- 56:20Speaker 1: Aaron?
- 56:21Speaker 5: Aaron? Okay, just take it too long. It's perfect. So
- 56:25Speaker 5: you know, Paul wants to talk, not that I'm a
- 56:28Speaker 5: thousand percent with team on Team Fred. Here it's you.
- 56:32Speaker 5: We're two and nine. The ship is sinking. It's Tuesday.
- 56:39Speaker 5: You call before the show starts, and then you get
- 56:41Speaker 5: pissed off that we make you wait forty five minutes.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Before we have to we have things to talk out there.
- 56:46Speaker 6: Well, it is the run of the show.
- 56:48Speaker 11: I mean, I don't think it's ever been set explicitly,
- 56:50Speaker 11: but usually the first and I thought it was thirty
- 56:52Speaker 11: Paul correct me. When I was hosting forty five first
- 56:54Speaker 11: forty five minutes.
- 56:54Speaker 5: Tuesdays Chat, Friday Table, Fredday seth, we got to clear
- 56:58Speaker 5: our throw for forty five minutes to say then you
- 57:00Speaker 5: call me then. Obviously I'm not annoyed by it. I
- 57:03Speaker 5: love our callers, but like you gotta wat there's a lot.
- 57:07Speaker 5: Everybody has their thoughts from the weekend. Everybody has once
- 57:10Speaker 5: their time. I was in that dark room for a
- 57:12Speaker 5: long time. He's still in a lot of things to say.
- 57:15Speaker 5: He then you okay in there, but now dom okay,
- 57:17Speaker 5: Dominique calls in, He's gonna wait about two minutes before
- 57:20Speaker 5: he gets to say, I'm not okay, Mike.
- 57:22Speaker 1: I'm not acause because Dominique just called and he waited,
- 57:26Speaker 1: you know, waiting patiently to call, and now he did
- 57:29Speaker 1: when there was a break. I'm gonna put him right
- 57:30Speaker 1: on Dominiques in New York. What's that Dominique the virtue?
- 57:36Speaker 1: So that's right, here's that.
- 57:37Speaker 5: There you go.
- 57:39Speaker 13: So I just had to get my thoughts off. And
- 57:41Speaker 13: this is so weird for me because them watching the
- 57:44Speaker 13: past is like one O two and this is the
- 57:47Speaker 13: first time we've been like bad dad, like since ninety three,
- 57:50Speaker 13: I think, and you know, we got to do a
- 57:52Speaker 13: bleststofter this year. So I'm at this point where I
- 57:55Speaker 13: was holding out hope for the first week two, three,
- 57:58Speaker 13: four five, and kept going back and forth, maybe we
- 58:00Speaker 13: could do this, Maybe we could do this, especially with
- 58:02Speaker 13: the bills how they look right, you know, thinking maybe
- 58:05Speaker 13: we could have a chance if we're just confident enough,
- 58:06Speaker 13: and we're not that. And I found myself in the
- 58:09Speaker 13: position where I know, Fred you mentioned you hate, you know,
- 58:12Speaker 13: seeing them be two and nine, But at this point
- 58:14Speaker 13: I'm kind of shipping to I kind of want them
- 58:16Speaker 13: to be to a nine. Sadly, I kind of want
- 58:19Speaker 13: them to lose out because I want a franchise altering player.
- 58:22Speaker 13: We need to build this thing from the ground up again,
- 58:24Speaker 13: and to do that, you need to have a top five,
- 58:27Speaker 13: honestly top three pick, especially with you know, the quarterbacks
- 58:29Speaker 13: in this class this year. So it kind of sucks
- 58:31Speaker 13: because you know, I want them to win. But I
- 58:34Speaker 13: flip the script and I said, you know what, let's
- 58:36Speaker 13: get that top pick. Let's hear where it goes. I'd
- 58:38Speaker 13: rather be terrible because you know where at rock bottom
- 58:41Speaker 13: you can go up versus kind of being middling like
- 58:43Speaker 13: the Bills, and truly that's what they are, and even
- 58:46Speaker 13: to the Jets not knowing what you might get with
- 58:47Speaker 13: Aaron Rodgers when he comes back, and Zach Wilson is
- 58:49Speaker 13: you know, he just sucks. So you know, that's that's
- 58:53Speaker 13: my thoughts. I hate to be in this position. But
- 58:55Speaker 13: you know, thank for Taylor, all right, thank you.
- 58:59Speaker 4: I understand Dominiqu's point, but there's a difference between being
- 59:03Speaker 4: in this position and being in this position like that.
- 59:07Speaker 4: It doesn't just because you're a two and nine team
- 59:09Speaker 4: record wise, doesn't mean that the games have to be
- 59:12Speaker 4: just terrible, you know. Like that That's the thing I
- 59:14Speaker 4: think that I keep on coming back to is like
- 59:18Speaker 4: they don't have to look this bad to be two
- 59:21Speaker 4: and nine.
- 59:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and certainly there is that silver lining when you lose,
- 59:26Speaker 1: you know, keep losing, and you're in this position and
- 59:29Speaker 1: you know for the draft. But the other thing that
- 59:31Speaker 1: is killing us is the uncertainty about the front office. Like, okay,
- 59:36Speaker 1: so let's say we have a top three pick and
- 59:39Speaker 1: we get Caleb Williams or Drake May.
- 59:42Speaker 4: Who's gonna be coaching He's gonna be coaching at any
- 59:46Speaker 4: of those answers.
- 59:47Speaker 8: I feel like that's another one of like Evans isms
- 59:50Speaker 8: when he's like, that's just like putting makeup on a pig,
- 59:52Speaker 8: like you're gonna get the new piece. But then if
- 59:56Speaker 8: Bill's still coaching it, it might look exactly the same.
- 59:58Speaker 4: I might look exactly the same if Ben Johnson's coaching it.
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: If they don't upgrade the rest of it around it,
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: I just think like offensively interesting, they you know, trying
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: to think about, all right, who do you think is
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: like worthy of being like a part of this next
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: iteration of the Patriots offense? And it's like two or
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: three guys like it's Remondre Stevenson, it's Mike on Winning
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: if they resign him, and it's probably Pop Douglas and
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: whatever David Andrews decides to do if he decides to
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: retire or if he decides to keep playing, and the
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: rest of it, I would say is spots are up
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: for grabs like the rest of it, like it's a
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: competition for everybody else.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Lee's in Uk. I really feel for Mac. He looked
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: terrible and it's looked awful for weeks. He looked on
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: a par with how Zach Wilson looked when the Patriots
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: played them, and I felt for him at the time
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: that he shouldn't be put up as a sacrificial lamp.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: I for one, don't want Bill to go, because that
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: truly is the last page in the chapter. I don't
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: want to be a team searching for an identity, continually
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: changing coaches and quarterbacks. When you look at the draft
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: of twenty one, other than Lawrence, I don't think any
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: of the quarterbacks look franchise great. I normally watch red
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Zone for the game, but the Patriots don't appear very
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: often at the moment, so I had to watch the
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: whole game. On the Giants game, my takeaways, Taekwan and
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Buddet play caught catches and Taekwon didn't get injured. That's
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: unheard of. He's made of glass. He should have fragile
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: stickers on him. And I don't understand how clotheslining a
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: punt receiver isn't a penalty when touching the kicker is.
- 1:01:33Speaker 6: I thought he did. He did a good deep dive
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: on the rule book on something.
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: That because I'm still baffled he does a deep dive
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: on the rule book for a punt.
- 1:01:42Speaker 11: Yeah, you know, Yeah, it was you can't hit the
- 1:01:45Speaker 11: guy in the helmet.
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: With your arm.
- 1:01:46Speaker 11: I think, I mean that'sue but it's and I mean
- 1:01:50Speaker 11: it's one of the rules in the rule but I
- 1:01:51Speaker 11: they I mean it was.
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: One of the I think, like, like I like to say, Fred,
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: do you remember years ago we used to say, like
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: you kind of unnecessary roughness, you know, you know when
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: you see it, thought that was unnecessarily.
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: I also, I the one thing I will say is
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: that I about that. I kind of did like the
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: response that the Patriots had to it in the moment,
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: because I don't think that has always been there this year, Yeah,
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: particularly for.
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: The quarter that would I would want my players to
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: react like that. I totally yeah.
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: So, I I was watching the Chargers Ravens game back
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: the Ravens hit Justin Herbert.
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: Late on the sideline.
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: I remember this, and uh, one of the offensive linemen,
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: I think it was a sailor, the guy from Georgia
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: came over and clocked crazy.
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: That's not the first time they did. They did that
- 1:02:37Speaker 5: to the Raiders earlier in.
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: The year too, and it was it ended up he
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: got a penalty for it, the Chargers guy. Yeah, third
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: and nineteen. Uh, you know from right in the red
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: like a third and nineteen from the nineteen.
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: So that's just the fine line. Yeah, so he got
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: a penalty for it.
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: But at the same time, like I that's one of
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: those penalties you kind of take, you know.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: The hit on pop though. You know, I have to say, like.
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: If I don't think it was a cheap shot, I
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: don't think it was.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: If you stick your arm out and hit a guy
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: in the chest, you know, just the right way he's
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: gonna go.
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: Question. Yes, I totally agree with you, Fred. Like Mike
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: and I were like talking about this, like I was like,
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: I don't know how I feel about this play, Like, right,
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: he didn't hit him with his head. No, But as
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: Mike said, as a as a hockey official, it's an
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: easy like the principal, Yeah, it's head contact. So he did,
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: like his arm hit him in the head. So is
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: that a penalty?
- 1:03:31Speaker 11: And I got Bart's thing up. I mean, this is
- 1:03:34Speaker 11: Article fourteen striking, kicking, tripping, or kneeing opponents, and we
- 1:03:38Speaker 11: go down.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: To letter D.
- 1:03:40Speaker 11: All players are prohibited from d striking, swinging at, or
- 1:03:45Speaker 11: clubbing the head, neck, or face of an opponent with
- 1:03:47Speaker 11: the wrist, arms, elbows.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: I would argue that he didn't do that. I would
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: argue that his arm hit the guy in the head, right,
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: I don't think strike him, I don't think strike them. Yeah,
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: yeah he did. But he was like he's running to
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: make a tackle and the head hit his arm, you know,
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: Like I think it's unnecessary rough I think it's it's like, yeah,
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: how many times I think it's unnecessary All you didn't.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Tackle when you played football, But for those of us
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: who attempted to tackle, how many how many times were
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: you squared up in front of a shifty player and
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: all of a sudden time he's over there and you
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: just stick your arm out, you know.
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: So if the guys that's why I got hit in
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: the head so many times, I.
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: Think I think you could you could call unnecessary roughness
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: on that. But I am not like like, I'm not
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: I'm not. Yeah, I'm not with the Twitter on this one.
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: Like the DeVante Parker one was a headshot that they
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: didn't call. That was a head shot that's got to
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: be called.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Robin San Diego via Connecticut. Postseason discussions of tides and
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: what constitutes an Italian sub can't get here fast enough.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Two questions for the crew. One, I remember people including
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: myself emailing or calling last offseason saying the moves Bill
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: was making or not enough, then doing so again after
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: the draft. In your opinion, you'd think Bill believe this
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: roster was good enough on offense. It's hard for me
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: to believe, as I'll be the first to admit he
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: knows more about football than I'll ever understand. Yet there
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: I was saying this roster is just not good.
- 1:05:16Speaker 11: I wish I could I wish I could say.
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: I don't know how we did.
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: I think they looked. I think it was okay. Yeah.
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: I think that they look at the last handful of
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: games that they've played, the Giants, the Colts, the Commanders,
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: and they say that was that was the plan. That
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: was the plan, that was the plan. Coming in, we
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: were gonna play really good defense. We were gonna win games.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: You know, higher scoring games are gonna be twenty one
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: to twenty. Lower scoring games are going to be thirteen
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: to ten.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: And this is my point about answering.
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: And he believes that the ball security on offense is
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: why they didn't come out on on the right side
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: of these games.
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: Yeah, and I'm with Paul, and I would say the
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: last two is probably right. The command they didn't lose
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: the Commander's game because of ball security.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: They didn't.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: You can make an argument the Commanders didn't win that
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: game by three touchdowns because of their poor ball sky.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: But you also just look at these games, and I
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: think this is where his blind of thinking goes wrong.
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: Is that even if you do all the things that
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: you plan on doing, the quarterback and the offense still
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: has to make some plays.
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: At the end of the game to get you the win, right.
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: And so if you that's a part of the equation
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: that he does not take it right so you can win.
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: You could have won this game on Sunday thirteen to ten.
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: If you know Bailey's app he had stuck on taekwon
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: Thornton a little bit longer and zipped in a touchdown
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: pass like he should have, but the quarterback didn't make
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: a play and the kicker misses the field goal.
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: And you lose, and you lose the game.
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: Like those are I think where he misses it is that, Yeah,
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: you could maybe design a game plan to get you
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: to that point. But if mac Jones throws an interception
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: at the end of the Colts game the windows or right, like,
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: then all of a sudden, your margin is zero.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: And you know, like we talked earlier about, you know,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: Bill's mentioned a couple of times, oh, you know, we're close.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: It was close, like the way he like criticized Ryland
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: after this game, like he deserved it, but like saying,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: you know, basically he missed two extra points, meaning we
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: could have tied this game, but he blew it.
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: So I totally agree with you, Fred, And I think
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: that's another example of him trying to tell you, Oh,
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: what do you want me to do? I can't I
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: can't kick the extra point for him, Like that's why
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: we lost these two games, right, Like that's what he's trying.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: To I put the team in position to tie this game.
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: I agree with you, Fred, I thought that was a
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: little bit harsh for a rookie kicker. Not that he
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: didn't know, like as you said, not that he didn't
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: deserve it, and they're all big boys.
- 1:07:41Speaker 11: I just this is just something I can't resign myself
- 1:07:43Speaker 11: to Bill Belichick watching the film of this team and
- 1:07:45Speaker 11: being like, we're close, We're close.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing.
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: You know, Like to him, it's listen, this is I
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: want to be really respectful. I think there's a mentality
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: that he has that that's exactly the way he wants
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: to win. So it's all on him. And everybody says,
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: can you imagine he squeezed seven wins out of that ros.
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: Well, I think on that O Brian said today that
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: it's an eight and nine to nine and eight league,
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: That's what he said, and that these one score games
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: is what tips you in one side of that scale.
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: So I don't know if Bill loll one score game.
- 1:08:19Speaker 5: I don't know if the Eagles are the best team
- 1:08:20Speaker 5: in football and they're like eight no in one score
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: games or some silly thing like that.
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: But that's that's that's the way that they look at it,
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: is what I'm saying, is that they look at it
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: like if we had just made the plays at the
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: end of these games. I'm sure they look at the
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: Eagles game and Week one the same exact way. If
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: we just had made the plays at the end of
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: these games, we could easily be you know, into your
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: and whatever right now, or nine to two instead of
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: two and nine.
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: To your point, Yeah, they could have made plays at
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: the end of the Eagles game. But if you didn't
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: set it up so you had to make the play
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: at the end of the Eagles game, you wouldn't have
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: been down two scores in the fourth quarter, right Or
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: everything has to be perfect now for us to win.
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: Right Or if you just had the great players that
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: could go out and make those games winning plays, then
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: maybe like.
- 1:09:02Speaker 5: The Eagles do. Right, that's how you are. But I
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: think the Eagles in the in the Dolphins, you're down
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: two scores in the fourth quarter of eventual one score losses.
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: Those aren't the same as losing ten six and ten
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: seven when you're turning the ball over in the red zone.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: Second question by Rob Max Simmessi says, my question is
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: what happened? Yes, Freddy's someone's son, but it was also
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: he was also a first round pick. Was the talent
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: evaluation off on Mac because it seemed consensus, or have
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: the Patriots just broken him? If the talent evaluation was correct,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: could he bounce back and be a starter with another team.
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: So I don't think the talent of like I push
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: back on people that say, you know, like you're one
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: of your guys. Jim Murray said that people like me
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: should just admit that we're wrong and take the l
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: and that Mac always sucked like that. That's what I
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: don't agree with that. I don't sucked as a strong
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: I still feel the same way. I still feel like
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: he had himself on a career trajectory to be eight
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: in the ten to fifteen range of NFL quarterbacks and
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: to be a functional NFL starter that could manage games
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: and that you could win games with, not necessarily win
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: games because of, but win games with. And I think
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: that the nurture argument is how we got to suck.
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: You know, we got from medicaa game manager to suck.
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: Like I never thought that Mac Jones is going to
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: be this elite quarterback, and people that did think that,
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: I think we're pie in the sky, you know, dreaming.
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: Yeah, I just think back to the rookie year and
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: people telling me that he could be Joe Burrow. I
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: just like, I'm just like, I don't know what you
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: ever watched. And I'm not talking about Joe Burrow. Now,
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: don't make me do it, Okay, No, that's my point.
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: Why would you do that when you know that I
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: have it.
- 1:10:47Speaker 8: I would have to buy those people in new pair
- 1:10:50Speaker 8: of glasses for Christmas because there's no way like.
- 1:10:53Speaker 9: Those two are incomparable.
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: Do yourself a favor if you want to have a laugh,
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: Like if you have five minutes and you want to
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: have a laugh at the show, google mac Jones can
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: be Joe Burrow.
- 1:11:03Speaker 14: Oh god.
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: And I'm telling you you will get no few You'll
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: get no fewer than like ten links Mike do So
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: I think the different. I don't think you'll find Mike.
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: So people like me because.
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: I you know, I am a nerd with this kind
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: of stuff.
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: I remember talking about Joe Burrow, this kind of stuff.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: Go ahead, Joe Burrows, fair enough, Joe Burrow's work with
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: Jordan Palmer, and how Joe Burrow from year one to
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: year or two improved velocity on the ball. And I
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: think people I use that comparison, you know, Brady did it,
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: Breeze did it. Burrow did it like a lot of quarterbacks.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: But that's not saying that he's eventually going to be
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: Joe Burrow. It's just that I can be done, I think,
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: is what the smart people said.
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not I didn't even realize you had done that.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: But I'm not talking about like if you say it
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: like a specific skill set. I'm talking there were people,
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: and they were more than one of them that said,
- 1:11:55Speaker 5: there's no reason why if he had h if he
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: had the playing well no, no, this is before he
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: had Chas Borrow didn't have Chase as a rookie. He
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: already showed me way more as a rookie when he
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: tore his a cl and got killed stratospheres.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: I always thought that, you know, Mac, the way he
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: played his rookie year, the tools coming out. He was
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: the fifth quarterback drafted for a reason. So when people
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: say that they missed on the evaluation, I don't necessarily
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: agree with that, because it wasn't like they drafted him
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: over you know, three other quarterbacks. They that's the guy
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: that fell in their lap.
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: And I thought, I'm coming out, but you look at
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: all I thought maybe in the second round.
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: I thought he was an average quarterback in the NFL.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: I think he still could have been if they didn't.
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: I think he could have been average ish.
- 1:12:43Speaker 11: Yes, he's just that example of that quarterback and you
- 1:12:46Speaker 11: need a quarterback.
- 1:12:46Speaker 6: He's the guy.
- 1:12:47Speaker 11: This is the spot you just kind of have to
- 1:12:49Speaker 11: take them like. There's not really like a look back
- 1:12:51Speaker 11: of another option at that point.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: I mean there could have been. They handled the previous
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: year properly, but they didn't like So that's what's so
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: amazing about it. The quarterback in aptitude. We haven't really
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: even touched on yet either. This has all been mac
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: and he's broken. And the nurture I like your nurture thing,
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: by the way, because I do think nurture got him
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: to suck. Yes, I agree with that. That's that's the
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: headline signed. I just want to give him credit nurture.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: The backup quarterback situation. Okay, so what the number that's
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: everybody's talking about. Eighteen transactions. I think they've made a quarterback.
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: So you go from Trace mcsolely to Blake Bailey Zappy
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: to whoever Matt corral Ian book the launcher. This will
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: Greer Malie Cunningham they're all been signed, cut back to
- 1:13:40Speaker 5: the practice squad. Whatever what if you had just in
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: twenty twenty allowed Jared stad him to play a couple
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: of games. I'm not telling you that you have a
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: pro bowler on your team, But do you not have
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: to go through the nonsense that you went through to
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: try to find a backup quarterback? Maybe you would have known, hey,
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: this is a guy. I don't know if he's the answer,
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: but we can retain this guy for cheap money. He's
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: in our system. He can be our backup, and maybe
- 1:14:07Speaker 5: we still draft Mac Jones. But now when Mac Jones falters,
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: we have a guy that's been on our system for
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: five or six years now to fault to go back to.
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: And again I'm not telling you that means instead of
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: two and nine, you'd be nine to two because Jared
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: Stidham's the missing link. But you've cut six backup quarterbacks, right,
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: whatever the number is, you've cut them all. At least
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: once you had one who wasn't costing you anything, and
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: you kept playing Cam Newton.
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: I just can't believe, looking back on the twenty twenty season,
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: when you put together all the equation, like Brady Leaves,
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: they really didn't have cap space to go out and
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: go crazy that offseason. It's the COVID year, like High Tower,
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: all those guys opt out. The fact that they didn't
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: tank that season is still like, how did you not
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: tank that season?
- 1:15:03Speaker 15: Like?
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: How did you not do that?
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: And I get that Trevor Lawrence is probably the only
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: good quarterback out of that class, but I at least
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: would have liked to have had the option of going
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: in whatever direction I wanted to go in, and instead
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: they middle it and they finished fifteenth in the league,
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: and you get what you get, Like I just I
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: can't believe they didn't tank that season.
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: I believe that Paul's food is here. So we'll take
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: a break and when we come back more calls and emails.

- 1:16:15Speaker 5: What's up everybody?
- 1:16:16Speaker 7: Mac Jones joined Jones and mego with r Ken yesterday
- 1:16:19Speaker 7: on a Patriots Monday on Wei. Let's have a listen
- 1:16:22Speaker 7: to what he had to say.
- 1:16:23Speaker 15: When you look at those controllables, what is most imperative
- 1:16:27Speaker 15: to you to improve?
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: I learned from.
- 1:16:32Speaker 10: My my high school coach, and a lot of it's
- 1:16:34Speaker 10: just your attitude and your effort, and when things are
- 1:16:37Speaker 10: going well, you have to focus on those things. And
- 1:16:40Speaker 10: I will do that I've done that and I'm going
- 1:16:42Speaker 10: to continue to do that. Obviously, the results we've talked
- 1:16:45Speaker 10: about haven't been there, but he has to be able
- 1:16:47Speaker 10: to focus on those two things, and once those two
- 1:16:50Speaker 10: things are in place, at that point anything could happen
- 1:16:53Speaker 10: and the results will come and everything will come back
- 1:16:56Speaker 10: around eventually.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: Mac.
- 1:16:57Speaker 17: We're not privy to what goes on in practice, but
- 1:16:59Speaker 17: it seems like you've been winning the job, you know,
- 1:17:01Speaker 17: and you've been starting all of these weeks. What's been
- 1:17:04Speaker 17: positive for you in practice that hasn't been sort of
- 1:17:06Speaker 17: translating over into these games. If there's any one thing.
- 1:17:11Speaker 10: Yeah, I think the biggest thing is just and that's
- 1:17:13Speaker 10: a really good question. I think obviously, when you practice,
- 1:17:16Speaker 10: you go against certain looks and you see certain things,
- 1:17:19Speaker 10: and for me, I do put a lot into it.
- 1:17:21Speaker 10: I prepare very well, but at the end of the day,
- 1:17:24Speaker 10: I just need to go out there and play football
- 1:17:26Speaker 10: and trust my training. And I've done that times. I
- 1:17:28Speaker 10: feel like I can do a better job of that
- 1:17:31Speaker 10: at other times excuse me. And that's one of the
- 1:17:34Speaker 10: biggest things, is it's taking that to the game and
- 1:17:37Speaker 10: really just playing football. Just say I did when I
- 1:17:38Speaker 10: was little because I prepare. You know, I work hard,
- 1:17:41Speaker 10: so does everybody else on our team, and it just
- 1:17:44Speaker 10: has to try to translate. And one of the biggest
- 1:17:46Speaker 10: things is they're just playing football and not singing too much.
- 1:17:49Speaker 18: How different were practices last week in terms of your reps?
- 1:17:53Speaker 18: You know, from the outside looking in, it seemed different.
- 1:17:55Speaker 18: We've kind of heard some conflicting things after the game.
- 1:17:58Speaker 18: Do you feel that you've got enough work in during
- 1:18:01Speaker 18: the week to be ready to go?
- 1:18:03Speaker 10: Yeah, very hard. Literally every second of the day is
- 1:18:09Speaker 10: preparation for the game. So I do a confident in myself,
- 1:18:12Speaker 10: and I, like we talked about, just need to do
- 1:18:14Speaker 10: a little better job of taking what I know and
- 1:18:16Speaker 10: what I need to do on game day and applying
- 1:18:19Speaker 10: that to each situation. There's so many situations I can
- 1:18:22Speaker 10: pop up, and like I just said, quarterbacks to the
- 1:18:24Speaker 10: hardest position in sports, and there's a lot of things
- 1:18:27Speaker 10: that can happen on each play really, so I just
- 1:18:30Speaker 10: have to really focus on taking those reps in practice
- 1:18:33Speaker 10: and applying it to the game. And then also when
- 1:18:36Speaker 10: I don't get the reps, just works like I always
- 1:18:38Speaker 10: do and get my throws in and get my throat count.
- 1:18:41Speaker 10: I think That's a very important thing for me, is
- 1:18:43Speaker 10: how many of those I'm getting each week, and that
- 1:18:46Speaker 10: varies from week to week, but it's pretty much in
- 1:18:48Speaker 10: the same range of those reps, I guess Mac.
- 1:18:51Speaker 15: We're hearing a lot about the different levels of communication
- 1:18:55Speaker 15: between the coaching staff and the players leading up to
- 1:18:59Speaker 15: game day. Clearly with the quarterback situation, I'm wondering what
- 1:19:03Speaker 15: the communication is like between you and Bill one on
- 1:19:05Speaker 15: one at this point. We used to hear about Tom
- 1:19:07Speaker 15: Brady having these weekly meetings with him, and I know
- 1:19:10Speaker 15: that you've said that's something you've done from time to time.
- 1:19:13Speaker 15: What is your one on one time with Bill during
- 1:19:15Speaker 15: the season like at this point.
- 1:19:18Speaker 10: Yeah, I definitely think it varies from week to week.
- 1:19:21Speaker 10: And I try to communicate with people and get input
- 1:19:25Speaker 10: and find out way that I can do better. So
- 1:19:27Speaker 10: that's what I always try to do, whether it's the
- 1:19:30Speaker 10: quarterback coach or the head coach or anything anywhere I've been,
- 1:19:33Speaker 10: that's what I've always done. But yeah, I mean, at
- 1:19:36Speaker 10: the end of the day, I said, I put the
- 1:19:38Speaker 10: work in, I got to go out there and be
- 1:19:42Speaker 10: the best I can be. So there's a lot of
- 1:19:44Speaker 10: variables each week that change. But for me, I just
- 1:19:47Speaker 10: have to control what I can control.
- 1:19:48Speaker 17: One thing that some announcers will pointed out is some
- 1:19:52Speaker 17: of the backfoot throws when you when you see the
- 1:19:55Speaker 17: rush coming, is that sort of something? Is that a
- 1:19:56Speaker 17: panic move?
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: Like?
- 1:19:57Speaker 17: What's what's sort of been the the answer to that?
- 1:20:00Speaker 17: And you what are you doing to try and cut
- 1:20:02Speaker 17: down on those?
- 1:20:04Speaker 10: Yeah, I think the biggest thing is just focus on
- 1:20:08Speaker 10: my footwork and practice and I do. I wrap it
- 1:20:11Speaker 10: every day. I work drills every day to correct that,
- 1:20:14Speaker 10: and a lot of it's just in the game when
- 1:20:16Speaker 10: things happen, like I talked about, there's you know, sometimes
- 1:20:19Speaker 10: there's a clean party. Sometimes maybe you know there's a
- 1:20:21Speaker 10: guy that comes free or whatever. It's the NFL, right,
- 1:20:23Speaker 10: guys are going to make plays. But how can I
- 1:20:25Speaker 10: apply my practice to the game. And offensive line's done
- 1:20:29Speaker 10: a really good job, you know throughout the weeks of
- 1:20:31Speaker 10: just stay staying in there and I'm making the blocks
- 1:20:34Speaker 10: and pass protection and we've been able to run the ball.
- 1:20:37Speaker 10: So definitely something I want to continue to work on.
- 1:20:39Speaker 10: And really, like you said, why is it happening? So
- 1:20:42Speaker 10: I've kind of identified the why, and now I just
- 1:20:45Speaker 10: have to continue.
- 1:20:46Speaker 5: To fix it.
- 1:20:47Speaker 18: Mac Jones joining us here on a Patriots Monday on
- 1:20:49Speaker 18: Jones and Mega with r ken On Wee. I, Mac,
- 1:20:52Speaker 18: we've done this stance a lot this year. Are you
- 1:20:54Speaker 18: still the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots?
- 1:20:58Speaker 10: Look? You all always asked me, right, And I think
- 1:21:02Speaker 10: the biggest thing for me is that's a result. I'm
- 1:21:05Speaker 10: going to focus on the process this week, focus on
- 1:21:07Speaker 10: competing and getting better. And that's all I've ever done
- 1:21:10Speaker 10: at any sport. And I know that if I do
- 1:21:13Speaker 10: that then we'll be in good, good hands. So that's
- 1:21:16Speaker 10: something I need to focus on as always. And I
- 1:21:19Speaker 10: do have confidence myself and I have confidence in the
- 1:21:21Speaker 10: guys room.
- 1:21:22Speaker 18: Okay, so this might sound weird, but do you do
- 1:21:25Speaker 18: you want to be the starting quarterback?
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: Is there any part of you that wants a fresh start?
- 1:21:32Speaker 10: I mean, I'm good right now. I really want to
- 1:21:35Speaker 10: be the quarterback here. I've always wanted to be a
- 1:21:37Speaker 10: quarterback in the NFL and specifically for the Patriots. And
- 1:21:41Speaker 10: like I said, I got a lot of room to
- 1:21:43Speaker 10: grow and everything, and I'm going to just continue to
- 1:21:45Speaker 10: work hard and do all the things I can to
- 1:21:47Speaker 10: put myself in a position to have success.
- 1:21:50Speaker 15: You mentioned your goals around attitude and effort. When you
- 1:21:52Speaker 15: look around the locker room, who on this team in
- 1:21:55Speaker 15: such a challenging season do you admire for that the
- 1:21:59Speaker 15: aspects of their character that way.
- 1:22:02Speaker 10: Yeah, there's a lot of guys. I think, you know,
- 1:22:05Speaker 10: some people that we may not talk about as much,
- 1:22:07Speaker 10: like Cavai and people like that who have played a
- 1:22:11Speaker 10: lot of football in the league and have been on
- 1:22:13Speaker 10: different teams and win throw up and downs. Chris having
- 1:22:16Speaker 10: with them and d Wise. You know, d Wise always
- 1:22:19Speaker 10: has great attitudes and I really appreciate that about him.
- 1:22:22Speaker 10: So there's guys out there that you know, do a
- 1:22:25Speaker 10: very job on the field, but they're also very positive.
- 1:22:27Speaker 10: And Slater obviously provides that leadership for us from top down.
- 1:22:31Speaker 10: So I've been very impressed to see, you know, which
- 1:22:33Speaker 10: guys of the right attitudes and I think that will
- 1:22:37Speaker 10: just continue to show.
- 1:22:38Speaker 17: Here Mac again, maybe a weird question, but do you
- 1:22:41Speaker 17: think you now or at any point this year, sort
- 1:22:44Speaker 17: of had the yips? You know what that is? I mean,
- 1:22:45Speaker 17: do you think that that's something that's that's happened to you?
- 1:22:49Speaker 10: What's the what is that the yips?
- 1:22:51Speaker 17: Where I don't know it's a golf thing where you
- 1:22:53Speaker 17: can't you know, you're a baseball thing. You can't make
- 1:22:55Speaker 17: an easy throw.
- 1:23:00Speaker 10: I don't know if that's like a legit question sports,
- 1:23:02Speaker 10: but no, I don't think so. I think when I
- 1:23:06Speaker 10: look at some of the things I've done in the games,
- 1:23:08Speaker 10: you have to put yourself in the quarterbacks shoes, and
- 1:23:11Speaker 10: there's a lot of things I can do better, a
- 1:23:13Speaker 10: lot of things I'll improve on, but definitely have confidence.
- 1:23:16Speaker 10: I definitely want to continue to work on that and
- 1:23:18Speaker 10: grow and make the right throws and commit to my throws.
- 1:23:21Speaker 10: Of the last thing you want to do is be noncommittal.
- 1:23:24Speaker 10: So definitely want to commit to my throws and make
- 1:23:26Speaker 10: sure I'm all in.
- 1:23:28Speaker 18: There was a report in the Boston Herald eighty percent
- 1:23:31Speaker 18: estimated talking to some sources within the locker room, eighty
- 1:23:35Speaker 18: percent of the locker room no longer supported you as
- 1:23:38Speaker 18: the starting quarterback. Do you feel that you have the
- 1:23:40Speaker 18: support of your teammates.
- 1:23:43Speaker 10: Yeah, I didn't. You know, I don't really deal with
- 1:23:46Speaker 10: the sources and things like that, and that's not really
- 1:23:49Speaker 10: my thing. But I think, you know, I put a
- 1:23:51Speaker 10: lot of work in in the off season throughout the
- 1:23:54Speaker 10: past three years I've been here, and I attitude, my effort.
- 1:23:58Speaker 10: I'm going to control I talked about and I've been
- 1:24:00Speaker 10: with some of these guys for three years and some
- 1:24:02Speaker 10: of these guys are rookies this year and forgetting to
- 1:24:05Speaker 10: know me. But at the end of the day, I'm
- 1:24:06Speaker 10: I'm going to continue to fight and I know that
- 1:24:09Speaker 10: the guys that are going to do a good job
- 1:24:11Speaker 10: of doing the same. So whoever wants to do that
- 1:24:13Speaker 10: and get on board, I know they're going to fight
- 1:24:15Speaker 10: and continue to work hard. And that's all you can
- 1:24:17Speaker 10: have for mac.
- 1:24:18Speaker 15: Has the play calling process changed it all for you
- 1:24:22Speaker 15: while you've been here this year under Bill O'Brien, It
- 1:24:26Speaker 15: just it sometimes seems like when we see Bailly Zappy
- 1:24:30Speaker 15: go in there there's a plant call of a lot
- 1:24:33Speaker 15: more screen passes and then focus on the run. Are
- 1:24:37Speaker 15: there different approaches for the two of you that you're
- 1:24:39Speaker 15: aware of.
- 1:24:41Speaker 10: Yeah, everyone's different and I've been in different offenses and
- 1:24:46Speaker 10: had different coordinators each year, and really at the end
- 1:24:50Speaker 10: of the day, I just got to get back to
- 1:24:52Speaker 10: executing my part and what's the play? What's my read?
- 1:24:55Speaker 10: You know, paint the picture of the play. It's a
- 1:24:57Speaker 10: big thing for me, where the receiver going to be
- 1:25:00Speaker 10: and then from there to executed and regardless of what's called.
- 1:25:04Speaker 10: I think that's something that I need to focus on that.
- 1:25:07Speaker 19: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, replacements
- 1:25:12Speaker 19: were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:25:15Speaker 19: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx. Where
- 1:25:19Speaker 19: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: And now great moments in history. Girl talking about what's
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: the what's the update? What's the update? Diana, let me
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: you know, we should probably take a break so we
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: can hear this breaking news. Her talking about Doug Marron's job.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: Right, like her.
- 1:25:39Speaker 9: Jumpsuit, she looks good.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: I'm obri I'm glad we have female representation, further furthering.
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: Women in sports for generations to come. I like her jumpsuit.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: That's another great moment from.
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: Great Megan O'Brien Moran connolly.
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: That was that I like to jumpsuit.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: But she knew what she was doing. Oh, Megan was great,
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: all right, eight five five pasts, five hundred days. Take
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: a hotline web radio at Patriots dot com. Is the
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: email address. Deuce Tamara, Evan, Paul, myself, Matt and the booth,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: Todd wants to kick Paul in the nuts? And what's
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: up for this? In his old age? Why do you
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: want to kick him in the nuts?
- 1:26:30Speaker 20: Saddler going on, except both of them are in one person,
- 1:26:32Speaker 20: kind of creepy. I think what's happened here is we've
- 1:26:37Speaker 20: there's been too much complacency, and I think too much
- 1:26:40Speaker 20: dependency on Bill. I have heard some scuttle but that
- 1:26:43Speaker 20: they think that Jonathan needs to start taking over, that
- 1:26:46Speaker 20: that Roberts just become a little complacent with Bill, and
- 1:26:49Speaker 20: then Bill thinks he can turn anybody into Tom Brady
- 1:26:52Speaker 20: and run, as you guys said, run the offense and stuff,
- 1:26:54Speaker 20: and it's just not working, and it hasn't worked for many,
- 1:26:57Speaker 20: many years. And I think this is just we just
- 1:27:00Speaker 20: didn't realize what Brady meant to this team really until
- 1:27:03Speaker 20: this year. And this year was kind of like, holy cool,
- 1:27:07Speaker 20: and he could do it.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: Why why do you want to kick Why do you
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: want to? What did I do want? Why do you
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: want to kick me? Nuts?
- 1:27:14Speaker 14: You know?
- 1:27:15Speaker 20: Unable to stay on the phone for forty five minutes
- 1:27:17Speaker 20: because they maybe they didn't realize maybe it's the first
- 1:27:19Speaker 20: time called they didn't realize that the show went on
- 1:27:21Speaker 20: for forty five minutes before you could get.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: In, or you know, I'm not buying that. I'm not
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: buying that.
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: You're being an apologist, right because because you usually do that.
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: I'm with you, Todd, I'm with you. People don't have
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: all that.
- 1:27:36Speaker 13: Nobody has to be with me.
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: I'm no, I'm with you to people don't have all day.
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: I get it, people don't have all day. I wouldn't
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: do what Dominique did. And I wait, so the pretty I'm.
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: Just saying that, you know, maybe that guy had a meeting,
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: Maybe he had to go pick up his skid at school.
- 1:27:51Speaker 5: Maybe, like I was just joking Abound, he was.
- 1:27:55Speaker 11: In a school play that he needed to go see
- 1:27:56Speaker 11: anderend that everyone wants.
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: I don't know, everybody says, maybe he's like, you know,
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: unruly offensive coordinator. Did you ever think of that?
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: Matthews and Virginia Beach? What's up, Matthew, Matthew, how you doing? Guys?
- 1:28:12Speaker 15: Hey?
- 1:28:12Speaker 21: Haven't you all got me?
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:28:15Speaker 21: I just want to say real quick, longtime listener, first
- 1:28:18Speaker 21: time caller. Thanks, appreciate everything you guys do. I love
- 1:28:21Speaker 21: having the privilege to listen to you. Weekend and week
- 1:28:24Speaker 21: out for years now. My question is, you know, it
- 1:28:30Speaker 21: goes without saying that the Patriots right now are they're
- 1:28:33Speaker 21: a bad team? And are we teetering on becoming a
- 1:28:38Speaker 21: bad organization? And what I mean by that is all
- 1:28:41Speaker 21: reference maybe the Raiders, where just year in and year
- 1:28:44Speaker 21: out you just see all the blunders and the head
- 1:28:48Speaker 21: coaching positions, just a revolving door and just questionable decisions
- 1:28:51Speaker 21: made throughout the front office and the roster. I would
- 1:28:55Speaker 21: hope to think that with the Crafts in charge, that
- 1:28:57Speaker 21: we wouldn't really be in danger of seeing the Patriots
- 1:29:00Speaker 21: become that. I just wanted to get your two cents on.
- 1:29:03Speaker 21: If it's trending that way, then it's been, you know,
- 1:29:06Speaker 21: trending in the wrong direction now for going on four years,
- 1:29:09Speaker 21: almost five years, I would say the last year of
- 1:29:11Speaker 21: Brady being in New England, we saw things trending sort
- 1:29:15Speaker 21: of downwards. I just like here his thoughts on that it's.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: A valid concern because who's the GM of this team?
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: You know, like, yes, it's Bill, But let's say you
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: know January comes around and Bill's not who's the GM?
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: Well they have to make a higher I know, but
- 1:29:31Speaker 5: like but but so I'll say this, I dare I
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: don't know.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: We're worried. We're worried about the new who's going to
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: be the new head coach? Assuming Bill's not here, which.
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: Is right we should be.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: You need a new but who's going to be the GM?
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: Because that could be even more But before we have
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: a revolving door, Thanks Matthew.
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: Can we acknowledge the fact that they've had the same
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: head coach and generalman twenty five years?
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: But but that's what happens though, is you know we
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: would have.
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: To get it right like this is like you sound
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: like Felger, Like I don't want to be one of
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: the those teams that's like drafting quarter Well, then get
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: it right. Yeah, it's not easy. I get it. But
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: like you, just because you pick a quarterback in the
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: top ten doesn't mean it has to be.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: A bad pat who's going to get it right?
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: Adam Bilhams? They have to hire someone frand I know,
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: but like so I mean you can just give Adam Peters. No,
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: I know that you've we've we've given him that name before,
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: ap AP.
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: Maybe let's see Adam.
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: But assistant general manager for the San Francisco.
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: My point is, if you've decided, and I think I have,
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: I think you have, We're moving on. Okay, you have
- 1:30:36Speaker 5: to hire someone like I'm not going to intentionally hire
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: someone who I think is incompetent.
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: But we've been over twenty years now without a GM. Yeah,
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: well but they haven't been well, someone who's that's their
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: only role, you know.
- 1:30:52Speaker 5: Well, is that the way you want to do it.
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: You don't have to set it up that way if
- 1:30:55Speaker 5: you don't want to.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Well, I'm told that, you know, unless you have someone
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: that's unique talented, you have to have a GM.
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: But who told you that? People?
- 1:31:05Speaker 6: Little Bird told me.
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: I'm gonna stay out of that one. I just one
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: felt ominous. No, I'm going to take a step. But
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: I think, I mean, there's a couple things. I mean,
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: I think I like the Craft's track history of coaches
- 1:31:16Speaker 5: that they've hired. They've excellent coaches and you know the
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: coaches that you know, Pete Carroll. Even it didn't work
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: out here, it worked out elsewhere.
- 1:31:22Speaker 11: I just I think the thing's hard is it's weird
- 1:31:25Speaker 11: to go into this and feel like you need to
- 1:31:27Speaker 11: completely blow everything up.
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: It's just hard.
- 1:31:30Speaker 6: I mean, like, and I'm not saying that I disagree that.
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: You should think they do.
- 1:31:33Speaker 11: But it's hard to think of all the success that
- 1:31:35Speaker 11: you had here and now we're just a few, you know,
- 1:31:37Speaker 11: five years away, and the prevailing thought is that you
- 1:31:40Speaker 11: can't save anything from what's been going on here right now.
- 1:31:43Speaker 11: You know, like a lot of people are calling up
- 1:31:45Speaker 11: saying you got to get a whole new thing going
- 1:31:47Speaker 11: on here, and and I guess that's probably true. I
- 1:31:50Speaker 11: can't go through the other dynasties and how they approach things.
- 1:31:53Speaker 11: I mean, I know San Francisco kind of kept it
- 1:31:54Speaker 11: going with a similar system, but like I mean, to Dallas,
- 1:31:58Speaker 11: when Jimmy Johnson got there, was that just you know,
- 1:32:00Speaker 11: a complete kind of I mean, they went from him
- 1:32:03Speaker 11: to what's his face? The Oklahoma guy, the Switzer. So
- 1:32:06Speaker 11: it's just it's hard for me to wrap my head
- 1:32:08Speaker 11: around how do you rebuild this team. But you can't
- 1:32:11Speaker 11: have jirow Mayo, you can't have any of the Belichick kids,
- 1:32:13Speaker 11: you can't have you know, Josh McDaniel's back. You need
- 1:32:16Speaker 11: completely new stuff. That's just what's really overwhelming.
- 1:32:20Speaker 5: Unfortunately, I think you're gonna get your wish. I think
- 1:32:23Speaker 5: some of those guys are gonna stay.
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: I think I'm an ownership perspective too, Like I cause
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: I agree with you one hundred percent. Like that's a
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: really hard leap to make for the Crafts to just
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: say we're just going to completely start with a completely
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: different like approach in terms of systems and defense and
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: offense and all the different nuances of it, and go
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: completely away from what's worked here for the last twenty
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: five years. And I could definitely talk myself into thinking
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: that it's a younger, newer, modern voice and like somebody
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: like Girod Mayo, And maybe that's all that needs to happen.
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: Is not necessarily that we need to completely strip it
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: down and start it all over again, But it just
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: needs to be somebody that has a little bit of
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: a different mindset of how to build a football team
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: and how to approach things. But if you're gonna hire
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: a GM from outside the tree, then you you have
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: to build it in his vision.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: I don't know the answer to this, but does anyone
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: know how often when you promote a guy from within
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: to be head coach long term it works?
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: Hmmm, it doesn't happen very often.
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: I'm just trying to think on the top of my head.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: I mean to to marry your guy, Mike Commlin. Was
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: he hire from within? He came from Tampa, Okay.
- 1:33:41Speaker 4: Tampa, but that was he had ties to someone in Pittsburgh.
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: No, because I don't know. I mean, would you consider
- 1:33:50Speaker 5: Dungee having ties to Pittsburgh because I think I think
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: that's what I remember that Tampa too, But yeah.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: That's not the same, you know, strictly a guy you
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: know today he was my coordinator of my assistant coach,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: and tomorrow he's my head coach in college.
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: I would say that I don't think that's a very
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: good practice in general. I'm not telling you that because
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: I feel like there's a relationship with an assistant coach
- 1:34:15Speaker 5: that changes when you're the head coach right with the players.
- 1:34:18Speaker 11: Yeah, so you think bringing in a GM with Jirab Mayo,
- 1:34:23Speaker 11: Jirob Mayo recognizes that this offense needs to be completely changed.
- 1:34:27Speaker 11: But I think, I mean, I think the one thing
- 1:34:29Speaker 11: that we probably mostly agree with is that the defense
- 1:34:31Speaker 11: is pretty good. I mean, I like, you know what
- 1:34:33Speaker 11: what they do. Actually, can I can I say one thing?
- 1:34:35Speaker 11: Can I say one thing? I Actually this is a
- 1:34:37Speaker 11: little off the beaten track. But I just it was
- 1:34:38Speaker 11: really interesting to me. I've been reading John Wooden book,
- 1:34:41Speaker 11: but John Wooden Pyramid, the Pyramids, the Pyramid, etcetera.
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: Didn't really step by recruits without getting labeled to cheat.
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: Oh did he do that?
- 1:34:50Speaker 8: Oh?
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: God?
- 1:34:50Speaker 11: Really point though, being you know a lot of stuff
- 1:34:54Speaker 11: in there that that you would probably look at as
- 1:34:56Speaker 11: kind of BELICHICKI and just general coaching kind of stuff.
- 1:34:58Speaker 11: But the thing that was mostly just that stuck out
- 1:35:00Speaker 11: to me last night was that he's like, I never
- 1:35:02Speaker 11: really scouted the opponent, you know. I just figured it
- 1:35:04Speaker 11: was best for them to adjust what we to what
- 1:35:07Speaker 11: we do. And I didn't want to spend too much
- 1:35:09Speaker 11: time putting in new plays trying to adjust our offense
- 1:35:12Speaker 11: every week and adjust what we do every week. I
- 1:35:14Speaker 11: wanted to focus on what we do. Have the players
- 1:35:17Speaker 11: you could do that and execute it at a high level.
- 1:35:19Speaker 11: And that's what we spent our time. And I didn't,
- 1:35:21Speaker 11: you know, one of the things he learned it from.
- 1:35:23Speaker 11: It's just very interesting to me where it's like I'm
- 1:35:24Speaker 11: going through and I'm saying, oh, that's very bellichicking, and
- 1:35:27Speaker 11: you know, focus just on getting better, you know, just
- 1:35:29Speaker 11: every day, focus on getting better. The results will come.
- 1:35:32Speaker 11: Wouldn't never really talked about winning and losing. It was
- 1:35:34Speaker 11: about getting better.
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: We're going to run the power sleep and we're going
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: to execute it.
- 1:35:38Speaker 11: But I couldn't help it but tie it into I
- 1:35:42Speaker 11: couldn't help but tie it into everything we were talking
- 1:35:44Speaker 11: about last week, where it's like there's so much going on,
- 1:35:46Speaker 11: and it's like, don't you just wish like instead of
- 1:35:49Speaker 11: being this game plan offense every week where you're just
- 1:35:51Speaker 11: throwing an entirely new playbook on this guy.
- 1:35:53Speaker 6: And I mean, to Evan's point about.
- 1:35:54Speaker 11: How complicated it already is just to run the offense,
- 1:35:58Speaker 11: not to mention the game plan for that week. All right,
- 1:36:00Speaker 11: here's all this new stuff that we're gonna do. And
- 1:36:02Speaker 11: you know, of course you could do with Brady, especially
- 1:36:04Speaker 11: as things went on, when you have twenty years to
- 1:36:05Speaker 11: draw from and hey, we're gonna do this like we
- 1:36:07Speaker 11: did it against Atlanta three years ago, those kind of things.
- 1:36:09Speaker 11: But with this team, it's like, I just I wonder
- 1:36:11Speaker 11: if that's part of it, of just focus on what.
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: I want to be game player oriented. But I do
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: think this is probably.
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: A past because you know, right, because so they install
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: a playbook in the summer, right in the spring, and
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: they build a library of plays, and then the install
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: for the game plan is taking those two hundred plays
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: that they had from the summer and picking twenty five
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: of them that they think is are going to work
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: against that specific team. So in theory, you're not you're
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: not supposed to be reinventing yourself every single week, right, Like,
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: these are all plays that have been installed and have
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: been practiced.
- 1:36:46Speaker 6: And what you're leaning into more just like this.
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: Week, we're playing a zone heavy defense, so we might
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: run these plays. Versus a man heavy defense, we might
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: run those plays, and like that's sort of the difference.
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: But I think maybe there's a there is some true
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: to the fact that their library is was so vast
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: with Brady because he's Brady, and now you know the library.
- 1:37:06Speaker 11: Might now it's just got screen passes that they're down
- 1:37:09Speaker 11: to screen passes.
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: There were only twelve of them, and everybody's acting like
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: they threw runs.
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: But I think your point about the coordinator, I'd be
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: curious if any of our listeners could could give us
- 1:37:20Speaker 5: some information on that, because I I really can't think.
- 1:37:23Speaker 11: It was what was George Seaffert.
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: Was he on this the Niners stats. He took over.
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: He probably and he was terrible.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Yeah that could be. He won a Super Bowl, Yeah,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: I know, I.
- 1:37:35Speaker 6: Was there anything with Gruden? Ever with his stops?
- 1:37:37Speaker 11: Was he ever promoted as like?
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: I mean I remember him as an offensive cordator in Philly.
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: Well yeah, they're all like coordinators for the most but
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: not the same.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: One thing like when you're the coach, but now, like
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: Paul said, you become the head coach. Now you're making
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: you remember Richie's decisions. You remember Richie Pettibone, I remember
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: the name. I don't even know how to respond.
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: I mean, nine times out of ten, I think he
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: was a coordinator for Washington and got promoted.
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: But when they get the interim will get promoted when
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: they fire the coach and then usually they move on.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: At the.
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: Interim has some success.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: I'm talking long term.
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: I can't think of like a great recent example of
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: them promoting from with it and sticking with it.
- 1:38:21Speaker 11: I mean, you have to have a reason to want
- 1:38:22Speaker 11: to do it, you know, and that the success is
- 1:38:24Speaker 11: all there, the team is there. You just you don't
- 1:38:26Speaker 11: want to upset the apple cart and you want to
- 1:38:28Speaker 11: just try to keep it going with with what's been working.
- 1:38:30Speaker 11: And I mean that's why I kind of relate it
- 1:38:32Speaker 11: to Sean uh the McDermott. You know, it's not that
- 1:38:36Speaker 11: that's been the success that.
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: They experience like a college basketball thing like a coach
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: and waiting like John Shire take.
- 1:38:43Speaker 11: Coach then like Joe Missoula is and that kind of
- 1:38:44Speaker 11: what happened with him.
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: It was just kind of the he.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: Was in the system, but that's not necessary.
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: I dabbled in basketball, but that wasn't by design.
- 1:38:53Speaker 8: Do you think there's a world where you can still
- 1:38:55Speaker 8: promote him to defensive coordinator like j Motion, Yeah, because
- 1:39:01Speaker 8: he still hasn't had that title and had the responsibility.
- 1:39:03Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean I think just to I mean, my
- 1:39:05Speaker 11: thought is that you want Robert and Jonathan would want
- 1:39:08Speaker 11: someone that they know to be the head guy to
- 1:39:10Speaker 11: talk to, but that they would rely on Girod to
- 1:39:12Speaker 11: not only have a GM who can pick players and
- 1:39:15Speaker 11: help him, you know, but also have an offensive coordinator
- 1:39:18Speaker 11: that continue you know what I mean, Like it's almost
- 1:39:20Speaker 11: just like, yes, he's the head coach, but he's also
- 1:39:22Speaker 11: just more kind of the guy in the middle pulling
- 1:39:24Speaker 11: it all together that hopefully recognizes where the team needs
- 1:39:27Speaker 11: to go to get.
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: To I would definitely promise I would definitely be open
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: to Girod running the defense here, whether it's as the
- 1:39:35Speaker 4: head coach or the defensive coordinator, because I don't schematically.
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: I don't think that that's the issue with the defense
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: now their secondary right now. And I know a lot
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: of people are like, oh, how's the defense not pointing
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: fingers at the offense after the defense has got their
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: own issues, Like they got to get their own house
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: in order before. I know, they only gave up ten points,
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: but like, don't let the points, you know, blind you
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: from the fact that they could have given up like
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: eight big in that game against the Giants.
- 1:40:02Speaker 8: Do you think they're more lax about it? I guess
- 1:40:04Speaker 8: because of the injuries that they have. I mean, not
- 1:40:06Speaker 8: that that's like an excuse, but not having Christian, it's
- 1:40:09Speaker 8: not having a healthy Jonathan Jones.
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: The last like month or so this season, they have
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: had more coverage breakdowns than I can remember them having
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: in like the last like three years. Like when you
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: really look at it, just guys running through the defense
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: wide open. And luckily they've played Gardner Minshew and Tommy
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: DeVito and they haven't really gotten burnout. Sam Howell did
- 1:40:31Speaker 4: burn them on it, you know, so that that.
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: There's justin Jay Herbo.
- 1:40:36Speaker 4: Yeah, Like if they do that against Herbert, it's going
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: to be forty to nothing.
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: And again, like when you give up to ten points
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: and back to back games, no one's sitting here saying
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: the defense they got to make changes like that you
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: have ten points. Yeah, yeah, but I agree with Evan.
- 1:40:51Speaker 6: I think it's in the scheme.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: But when the team that you play against, Tommy Devine, right.
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: It's literally it's literally the thirty second ranked offense and
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: football it's even worse than yours, right, and you basically
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: help them to their average, like you didn't like to
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: have this great game on Sunday even though they only
- 1:41:09Speaker 5: had two hundred and twenty yards. That's what they do.
- 1:41:12Speaker 5: To me, it's the mental lapses.
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: Like I can live with the fact that jac Jackson's
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: not the guy anymore than he was a couple of
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: years ago, and Jalen High had beat him on a
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: go ball for forty one yards, Like I can live
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: with those types of plays because that's they just they
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: don't have the horses. Well, it could be consistently great.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: You know the fact that mccordy's not back there anymore,
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: that could be catching up.
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: That's where my head immediately has gone there. They have
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: not they don't have a field general back there anymore.
- 1:41:37Speaker 4: That's making sure that they're not having these breakdowns.
- 1:41:40Speaker 6: Right, So you still have to extend Dugger then.
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: Dugger I think is I still think that dougger Is
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: is a good player. I still think he's playing out
- 1:41:49Speaker 4: of position, and I think that's mainly the reason why
- 1:41:52Speaker 4: you know he's been on the scene in some bad spots.
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: Matt Framingham writes in as much as I think that
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: Rex Ryan does come across as a tool bag, the
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: mocking criticism is a tool. The mocking criticisms and failings
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: of Belichick is well earned and deserved. If you're going
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: to be so cavalier as to do football life on
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: NFL Network as well write books and do documentaries on
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: the alleged Patriot Way, then when seasons like this happened
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: post Brady, you have to take your medicine. Rex Ryan
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: is not at fault for the stupid game plan post
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: bye week, nor for the bad drafting. If people can't
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: handle reality from fiction, then that's on you. And nobody else.
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: But my whole point with the Rex Ryan thing, not
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: to deliberate the whole Rex Ryan thing, is that there's
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: a difference, Like we come on the show here and
- 1:42:37Speaker 4: we're critical of Bill Belichick and the mistakes that he
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: has made and the moves and the team and the
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: record and all this stuff. There's a difference between that
- 1:42:45Speaker 4: and like turning it into a clown show where you're
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: like taking personal shots at him and you're saying, you know,
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: all these ridiculous things about him on TV. That that
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: was my if you want to be critical of Bill,
- 1:42:55Speaker 4: like we're all critical of Bill. I mean, they're two
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: and nine. But I think there's a difference between that
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: and what Rex Ryan does, which is performative. As Paul said, let's.
- 1:43:04Speaker 6: Go get a damn snack. Remember that.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: That was classic.
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: It was the last time I really watched hard.
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: It was a good one. That's probably the best one.
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: See, that's called a personal shot. I said, don't do that.
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: Ed and Florida says, great show. Was wondering what you
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: thought of Bill b throwing Billy Oh under the bus
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: when Belichick was asked about the team not knowing who
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: the starting quarterback was Belichick's reply was, Bill O'Brien is
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: in charge of the offense. Do you think that Belichick
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: has intentionally sabotaged the offense in response to being forced
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: to hire Bill O'Brien.
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: I don't remember him saying it like that. I don't
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: remember that either.
- 1:43:39Speaker 15: Then.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: Yeah, so now we're just making things to do.
- 1:43:42Speaker 5: I didn't say he's making it up. I said, I
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: don't remember it here.
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: You don't remember it, Paul, It didn't happen.
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: Right, But I'm not at every press conference anymore like
- 1:43:50Speaker 5: I used to know.
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: I'm at every press conference, and I don't remember him
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: saying that.
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: Jody's in Atlanta. What's up, Jody?
- 1:43:56Speaker 14: Hey, what's up?
- 1:43:56Speaker 5: Guys?
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:43:58Speaker 14: I just had a question. So with this upcoming free
- 1:44:03Speaker 14: agent class, I know it's not like a good tackle class,
- 1:44:07Speaker 14: but we got a lot of holes to fill in
- 1:44:09Speaker 14: the offense. Is there any position group besides like I
- 1:44:11Speaker 14: know T Higgins in the receiver class, but other than that,
- 1:44:14Speaker 14: is there any other players that we should be, like,
- 1:44:16Speaker 14: you know, kind of going after or is it just
- 1:44:18Speaker 14: kind of like a dud?
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: I do think there are decent receivers and it doesn't
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: I mean high end is t Higgins, but I think
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: from the Colts, yeah, Brios.
- 1:44:27Speaker 11: Right, Pittman, and he's probably the most productive of the fusion.
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: I think there are some like guys that I don't
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: think would cost you that sort of top of the
- 1:44:36Speaker 5: market money. And he's right. The tack the offensive line,
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: the tackle class is not not great. Again, they were
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: a year late. There was some guys available last year, right,
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: And it's hard to lindle Brown. No one wanted them.
- 1:44:49Speaker 11: Yeah, it's hard because you got you know, Juju and
- 1:44:52Speaker 11: Parker there as you know, they're runner contract their back.
- 1:44:54Speaker 11: It's just it's hard, Like I mean, I'd love to
- 1:44:56Speaker 11: say cut one of them and bring somebody in. And
- 1:44:59Speaker 11: I mean and also just say it's got to be better
- 1:45:01Speaker 11: than Kendrick Bourne. You know, Kendrick Bourne is a free
- 1:45:02Speaker 11: agent too, So if you're gonna sign one of those
- 1:45:04Speaker 11: free agents, he just he has to be better than Kest.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: I do think it is a good free agent receiver class,
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: you know, like Mike Evans is a free agent at.
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: The end of the year too. It's a good amount
- 1:45:13Speaker 5: of free agent.
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: But what I worry about the receivers is the same
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: thing always is that those teams are going to find
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: ways to get compensation for those players, whether it's trading
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: them on the franchise tag, paying them the franchise tag,
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: or whatever like that. I feel like they're I can't
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: imagine that a guy like t Higgins is just going
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: to hit unrestricted free agency, Like I just can't fathom
- 1:45:35Speaker 4: that the Bengals are gonna just do nothing to.
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: Especially the way this season is going to unfold for them,
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: They're gonna look at it and say, let's bite the bullet,
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: let's spend the money, let's run this back, and let's
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: see this through.
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: I could definitely he's such a good candidate for the
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: franchise tag because you're not giving him that that guaranteed
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: bag of multi year contract that you might have to
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: worry about stacking together with Burrow and Chase. But at least,
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: like Paul is saying, running it back one more year.
- 1:46:03Speaker 11: I mean, you get tempted, though, by a high round
- 1:46:04Speaker 11: draft pick, to say maybe we just go to the draft,
- 1:46:07Speaker 11: try to get it somebody even better than Tea.
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: That's the thing is like a team like the Bengals
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: that has has a little bit of margin for error
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: to take that risk. I definitely think that that is
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: a consideration of if we can get, you know, a
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: first round pick and then we turn it into like
- 1:46:20Speaker 4: Romeo Dunes instead of you know, T Higgins, Like it's
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: kind of the same guy, and we'll just rookie contract.
- 1:46:27Speaker 6: Yeah, fifty option.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: Does anyone know who Joel Washington rome Dunes Dunes?
- 1:46:33Speaker 5: I believe Washington guy. I can never pronounce his nay. So, yeah,
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: he's an analyst on Fox College Football.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: So Andrew and La says that Joel Klatt said Mac
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: Jones is your new Joe Burrow on a website on ten,
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty, So October twentieth, twenty twenty.
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: He says that was in his college Yeah, Joe Burrow. Well,
- 1:46:54Speaker 5: I mean that's even worse. But that's a good point.
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: That makes it even worse. At least if you saw
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: him win the seven game winning streak, you said, oh,
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: look at this guy, he's gonna be like Joe Burrow.
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: But that's a good point though, because I immediately went
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: to Trevor Lawrence just because that's max draft class. But
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: Joe Burrow is another one of those guys that had
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: maybe the most talented offense in the history of college
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: football and is still a dude in the NFL. So
- 1:47:16Speaker 4: like I don't I don't think you can automatically say
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: that what I thought separated.
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: And again this isn't about like measurables. I'll bet that
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: Joe Burrow doesn't run better than like a four eight forty.
- 1:47:30Speaker 5: Like I don't think he could blow away Mac Jones
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: in a forty, But I watched him at LSU. He
- 1:47:37Speaker 5: ran all over the place, and he made plays with
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: his legs, he did.
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: All kinds of he's really good at buying time.
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: He did all kinds of things that I never saw
- 1:47:45Speaker 5: Mac Jones. Oh yeah.
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: But that's my point is like and he did. He
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: had he had great talent, Like you have to see it,
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: you know. And that's why you can't just say every
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: quarterback that has great talent around him is not worth draft.
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: Let's there's an argument to be made that his LSU
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: team is the greatest, but let's put the other way.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: I think when Joe Burrow was being scouted and and
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: you know were there, you know, yeah, he can do this,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: but here's his downside, and you know, yeah.
- 1:48:12Speaker 4: The hands, there was some pushback the talent around him
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: for sure, but but not.
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: The talent around. I'm talking about his talent. People wonder
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: Mackett was clear he you know, he's not going to
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: run around. He doesn't have the strongest arm, he's not
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: that tall, he's like six to one, So he had
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: a lot of physical things that were working against did
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: Joe Burrow? No he didn't really. I mean that's that's
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: my point. Yeah, I know he he has the intent,
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: he has the physical traits. He's tall, big arm.
- 1:48:44Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:48:44Speaker 11: Was it just the same uh, not a lot of
- 1:48:46Speaker 11: productive just one year starter, right, like it wasing Joe Burrow,
- 1:48:49Speaker 11: only one or two years it.
- 1:48:51Speaker 5: Started with I believe.
- 1:48:54Speaker 8: I wonder they're probably still kicking themselves for not playing
- 1:48:56Speaker 8: him like it's.
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: Just but it's the same thing with Trevor Lawrence. I mean,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: look at him, look at him. You know he's a
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: good quarterback. I mean people, you know, people killed me
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: and Matt's you know first year here I was saying
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: back then, yeah, I take Trevor Lawrence in a heartbeat. But
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: just to be clear, nobody, no listeners, like they couldn't
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: believe I was, you know, committing this glass.
- 1:49:23Speaker 5: Post because they all thought that Max was going to
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: be Joe Burrow.
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: No, but like how could you say that?
- 1:49:27Speaker 8: And like I look at him, I think because they
- 1:49:30Speaker 8: saw Trevor Lawrence, and I mean he was in a
- 1:49:32Speaker 8: bad situation too with Urban Meyer, you know, being sacked
- 1:49:35Speaker 8: all the time.
- 1:49:36Speaker 9: His turnovers like the Jacks did not look good.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: No, but you know, you just know that if he
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: gets over that, if the team gets it right, he'll
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: be fine.
- 1:49:46Speaker 4: But I also just think that that goes to the
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: point still though of like even Trevor Lawrence looked terrible.
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: So Peyton Manner, by the way, you know, I just watched,
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: you know, the Ravens game with against the Chargers, and
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: Justin Herbert's like running for his life in that game.
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: He's under pressure forty one percent of the time they
- 1:50:04Speaker 4: only score ten points. Like he's a cyborg. Like he
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: can make throws at every no one else can make.
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: He's another guy. It's like, look at him, he's a
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: good quarterback. He just to be coached better.
- 1:50:16Speaker 5: Yeah, right, like Anthony Richards great.
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: Yeah, So you know it's just that's all. You gotta
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: can't lose sight of that. Like you have Justin Herbert,
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: who's a top five quarterback in the league, just based
- 1:50:27Speaker 4: off the talent. He gets pressured on forty one percent
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: of the dropbacks. They only score ten points in the game.
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: There are coaches on the hot seat. They're four and seven,
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: like they have the quarterback and they and they still
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: they're still not good, Like they can't figure it out.
- 1:50:40Speaker 4: They're probably gonna come in here and be the Patriots
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: forty five to nothing. But that's not the point, right, Like,
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: they're still not a good team.
- 1:50:46Speaker 5: You don't still think in all, I'm being dead serious.
- 1:50:49Speaker 5: This isn't a snarky Paul. You don't think there's something
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: like the Chargers could come here and still lose, because
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: I do.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that because the Charger. It's either one
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: of given it's one of two things. Either there the
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: Chargers are gonna play down to the Patriots like the
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: Chargers do, or it's gonna be forty five.
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: Ye.
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: But in the past, I'd be more confident about that.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: But the play at quarterback is so bad right now
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: for this team, I don't think they can pull off
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: those kind of wins anymore. You know, where the other
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: team comes in and and they make all the mistakes and.
- 1:51:16Speaker 5: You take away give them a little magic.
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you get one.
- 1:51:23Speaker 11: Of those Adrian Phillips pick six that he had last
- 1:51:25Speaker 11: time against the Chargers. I mean, I think it's gonna
- 1:51:27Speaker 11: take defensive scores probably, I mean then then maybe, but
- 1:51:30Speaker 11: they just haven't been able to produce those wins that
- 1:51:32Speaker 11: we made fun of him for the last two years. Anyway,
- 1:51:34Speaker 11: Like they played the backup quarterbacks, they get a couple takeaways.
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: Even lost that.
- 1:51:37Speaker 11: You know how we can't even do that that That
- 1:51:39Speaker 11: was the end for me.
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: It's like two and a half, right because it was
- 1:51:43Speaker 5: Minshew and and Devido back to back, and then like
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: Hoyer played the whole second half.
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: And Sam Howel is like he's not a backup.
- 1:51:50Speaker 5: He's their starter. I got to call him the start,
- 1:51:52Speaker 5: but he's kind of like a starter adjacent like they were.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: They were beating the Sam Howells of the world though, right.
- 1:51:58Speaker 6: Oh that was that was their jam, that was what
- 1:51:59Speaker 6: they they still had left.
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Bill in DC I laughed at Bill criticizing Ryland
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: for missing the field goal. Maybe he should be criticizing
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: the GM who not only drafted him in the fourth
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: round and also ship Nick Folk out of town. Anybody
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: think Nick Folk would have missed that kick?
- 1:52:14Speaker 4: No, because he has the NFL record for the most
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: kicks made inside.
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: Of forty oh. I don't think he would have made
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: the kick. I wouldn't. To me, the GM mistake was
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: drafting him in the fourth round, like especially trading up
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: to draft him in the fourth round. I don't understand why.
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: I think they insist on draft round. I don't know
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: why they insist on drafting their kickers. The vast majority
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: of guys in that league are undrafted. Why not just
- 1:52:36Speaker 5: take one? Yeah, the Dallas guy who's.
- 1:52:38Speaker 4: Like perfect, right, Yeah, I think that this is something
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: that you know, some of the draft stuff that.
- 1:52:44Speaker 5: The kicker.
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: So they the Niners took Jake Moody in the end
- 1:52:49Speaker 4: of the third round, who is the kicker at Michigan
- 1:52:52Speaker 4: and was the Patriots kicker at the Shrine bullet And
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: I think that they were all over Jake Moody. I
- 1:52:56Speaker 4: think I think that they love Jake Moody, and the
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: forty nine ers knew it, and the forty nine ers
- 1:53:02Speaker 4: swooped in at the end of the third round and
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: took the guy. And I think they panicked and they
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: picked Chad Ryland in the fourth round because they figured
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: to a run of kickers was going to come and they
- 1:53:11Speaker 4: picked their second guy on the board because they got
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: their first guy stolen.
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: On the question about assistants being elevated to head coaches,
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: Bill Parcells New York Giants, who incidentally had a terrible
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: first season.
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: So he was a he was on the Giants, he
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: was at DC. Okay, so this that's a good one.
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: That's one.
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: That's a good one.
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: By the way, didn't Bill bench Welker for poking fun
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: of Rex?
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: And yeah he did? He did.
- 1:53:36Speaker 4: Yeah, because Bill has respect exactly.
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: That's the point. I agree, Yeah, the fraternity. You don't
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: make fun of the other coaches, I agree, you know, unless.
- 1:53:46Speaker 5: That's why I called Rex, even though I think Rex
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: Ryan is entertaining to.
- 1:53:50Speaker 6: That was the playoff game too, right, Yes they lost.
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: Let's go to Willhem and Philam. What's got William?
- 1:53:58Speaker 14: Hey, how are you doing all right?
- 1:54:00Speaker 17: All right?
- 1:54:01Speaker 22: Questions for for Evans? So have two questions?
- 1:54:05Speaker 5: Everybody else be.
- 1:54:05Speaker 21: Quiet you so uh for for free agency?
- 1:54:12Speaker 22: Right for and it's about wide receiver basement?
- 1:54:15Speaker 14: Who would you what receiver would you want?
- 1:54:17Speaker 13: That would be specific?
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: For uh?
- 1:54:20Speaker 14: For the Patriots deal.
- 1:54:21Speaker 22: I know everybody talking about t Higgins. I'm trying to
- 1:54:24Speaker 22: understand as far as him being six for I know
- 1:54:26Speaker 22: he can catch and all that, but what makes you
- 1:54:28Speaker 22: think he can be a number one. He seemed like
- 1:54:31Speaker 22: the type of receiver that's going to need somebody like
- 1:54:34Speaker 22: a true number one, like a like a Jamar Chase
- 1:54:37Speaker 22: or something like that.
- 1:54:38Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 1:54:39Speaker 22: And number two just who else as far as in
- 1:54:42Speaker 22: the draft, right and in terms of wide receiver, who
- 1:54:44Speaker 22: would who would fit the Patriots scheme though?
- 1:54:47Speaker 13: And I'll leave it at that.
- 1:54:48Speaker 22: Take care of y'all, all.
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: Right, thanks, Well, it's.
- 1:54:51Speaker 5: The Patriots scheme?
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: What is it? Hopefully you don't have to worry about it, right, So,
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: I mean, I take to Higgins any day of the week.
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: I I think with the thing with receivers that is
- 1:55:01Speaker 4: trying to make the point with you know, the franchise
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: tack and things like that, most of the good receivers,
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: the good receivers, we're not talking about, you know, the
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: the next tier. We're talking about the elite, top end guys.
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: Those guys get traded. Those guys never hit unrestricted free agency.
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: And I think the Patriots need to take that approach
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: next off season that they can't just pick from the
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: free agency pool. And I think that's the mistake that
- 1:55:25Speaker 4: they made in twenty twenty one when they had all
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: that cap space, was they just picked from the guys
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: that were available in free agency instead of going out
- 1:55:32Speaker 4: and being more aggressive by trading for somebody that was
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: better than Nelson Agilore and Kendrick Bourne. So I look
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: at it and say, whether it's t Higgins, whether someone's
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: gonna get the scruntled and want out. It happens every
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: off season that one of these deva receivers wants out.
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: They're not trading him here, but you know, whoever it is, like,
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: it happens every off season, So whoever it is this
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: time around, you gotta make it happen like that's gotta
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: be you. That's got to be you this time around.
- 1:55:59Speaker 4: And to his second question in the draft, if it's
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: this type of Patriots offense, you know, obviously Marvin Harrison Junior,
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: it fits every single scheme. I really do like Roma
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: Dunes too, from from Washington, but.
- 1:56:10Speaker 5: I don't remember that one Rama Dunes.
- 1:56:12Speaker 4: I think it's Xavier Worthy. It's worthy from Texas. Is
- 1:56:17Speaker 4: like this draft, say Flowers, but from Texas instead of
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: Boston College in Alabama.
- 1:56:23Speaker 5: Ryan, I just I want to be on the record
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: is I want to get away from those maconk I
- 1:56:28Speaker 5: want to get an outside guy who's a playmaker by
- 1:56:30Speaker 5: the way, T Higgins. Okay, if i'm I had the
- 1:56:34Speaker 5: years right, twenty twenty, that was Burrow's number one overall. Yeah, right,
- 1:56:38Speaker 5: so they went Burrow Higgins first two picks. Right, not bad.
- 1:56:43Speaker 5: So Higgins had sixty seven catches from nine hundred and
- 1:56:46Speaker 5: eight yards and six touchdowns as a rook and Borrow
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: missed the last part. I want to say, like the
- 1:56:53Speaker 5: last six or seven games, maybe five or six games
- 1:56:55Speaker 5: with a twenty a cl So that's without Jamar Chase. Right,
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: that was a hit and that's you know, and he
- 1:57:02Speaker 5: was already really good.
- 1:57:03Speaker 6: Without Shamar Chase pulling coverge during the right round.
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: So yeah, I would feel pretty good about a six
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: or four guy on the outside who can make plays
- 1:57:10Speaker 5: and has a career average of fourteen yards a cauch. Yeah.
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: I have no problem Ryan as being my number one guy.
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: I mean, Ryan in North Carolina says it's time for
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: an apology. I need to come clean and tell everybody
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: that it was me who sold Belichick the magic eight
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: ball that he's been using to make GM and coaching decisions.
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: When I sold him the eight ball four years ago,
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: I never thought he would take it so seriously, and
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: for that, I'm sorry. I hope Bill will realize that
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: I was lying when I said the eight ball could
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: make up for Brady leaving. I was just trying to
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: make a quick.
- 1:57:38Speaker 11: Buck Outlook cloudy outlook cloudy.
