- 0:05Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:10Speaker 2: The World's a big podcasts.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. Well, I wonder how New Raiders
- 0:23Speaker 3: partial owner Tom Brady will feel.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Is that is that happening or is that just still?
- 0:27Speaker 4: Oh no, I think it was confirmed. Got past this.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I don't. I don't care for that. I don't play
- 0:34Speaker 2: for Robert crappt If you're listening, you gotta swoop in
- 0:37Speaker 2: and stop this and make him part of our two.
- 0:41Speaker 3: But I don't think this cannot stand.
- 0:42Speaker 5: This is not a.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Cannot stand one of Evan's simulators.
- 0:47Speaker 5: No, so he simulates the season for the Patriots. This
- 0:50Speaker 5: is crap, Like, what are you talking? This is not
- 0:52Speaker 5: gonna happen like this. Why why are we even giving
- 0:54Speaker 5: this a time of day if that's what it's going
- 0:56Speaker 5: to simulate? Like, No, No, this thing is crap.
- 0:59Speaker 3: It's crap. Whatever I'm gonna do it?
- 1:01Speaker 5: Oh oh, they did a whole show on it, him
- 1:02Speaker 5: and uh an intern Mike Catholic, they did an entire show.
- 1:07Speaker 5: And Whether and Whether is another thing that Bart and
- 1:10Speaker 5: I always argue. I'm just wait till you get a
- 1:12Speaker 5: girl from alex all right, dressing up when she says
- 1:15Speaker 5: to dress up, you dress up, dude.
- 1:17Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:17Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Dunky.
- 1:23Speaker 2: All Right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:28Speaker 2: at Jills Stadium, and we didn't expect to be here
- 1:31Speaker 2: at this time.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Was supposed to be here.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah, we thought we were going to be here too,
- 1:35Speaker 2: after having witnessed our first ot A practice. But Patriots
- 1:40Speaker 2: were bad. They pitched, they broke the rules again, and
- 1:45Speaker 2: uh yeah, so that's the big news this morning. Patriots
- 1:48Speaker 2: have been docked two ot A practices for violating rules.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Apparently they posted the time of a special teams practice
- 1:57Speaker 2: and you're not allowed to do that because it may
- 2:00Speaker 2: it mandatory or something. I don't know.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Somebody felt pressured, that's right the way you just said it.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the fact that it was listed on
- 2:07Speaker 4: the schedule, yeah, made it appear mandatory and not voluntary. Right,
- 2:12Speaker 4: seems a little silly to me.
- 2:14Speaker 3: So you can't have a schedule during OTAs because that
- 2:17Speaker 3: would imply that you have to do something.
- 2:18Speaker 4: It's just kind of not not hey show up on
- 2:22Speaker 4: the field. At too, Just so you guys know we're
- 2:25Speaker 4: going to get together after work today and have a drink.
- 2:28Speaker 4: But I'm not going to send out an email because
- 2:30Speaker 4: then there would be a paper trail, right, and we
- 2:32Speaker 4: could get in trouble.
- 2:33Speaker 3: For I mean it, calendar.
- 2:36Speaker 2: If I send an email, it makes you think that
- 2:37Speaker 2: you have to be there for the drink. Yeah, I
- 2:40Speaker 2: don't know. I like, can you just have a header
- 2:44Speaker 2: on everything that says these are all optional.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Right, you know, legal disclaimer.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It's kind of like you know when we write our stories, right, Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 2: so less practice seven hours now means four hours. Everybody's
- 2:56Speaker 2: behind and your preseason prediction now is out the window
- 3:00Speaker 2: because now we're behind two practices. So if whatever how
- 3:03Speaker 2: many wins you had the Patriots, you have to take
- 3:05Speaker 2: one off because we're gonna be that far behind. Yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm annoyed.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Same.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I feel bad. I look and I say at the
- 3:12Speaker 3: top like it seems like a clerical error, and it
- 3:14Speaker 3: does seem kind of dumb and and all that. But
- 3:16Speaker 3: at the same time, I just like, I don't this
- 3:18Speaker 3: is not what I want right now. Like, I just
- 3:20Speaker 3: this team missed the playoffs last year. We know how
- 3:23Speaker 3: it's ended, uh, you know, the last couple of years.
- 3:25Speaker 3: But it's just it's not what you want right now.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And I'm sure that they're pissed about it. I mean,
- 3:29Speaker 3: I'm sure, you know, not somewhat to losing the practices,
- 3:32Speaker 3: but just you know, for the for what it was,
- 3:34Speaker 3: and you know, maybe more of a miscommunication, I don't know,
- 3:36Speaker 3: but overall, just not what they need right now. And
- 3:39Speaker 3: I'm also frustrated because I wanted to sit out there
- 3:41Speaker 3: and watch some football today and here we are.
- 3:43Speaker 4: So and we should point out that the that was
- 3:47Speaker 4: Mike Florial report for Pro Football Talk. He's the one
- 3:50Speaker 4: that is yeah, I pulled it up here. I don't
- 3:53Speaker 4: know came up with the with the wording about the yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 4: but the posting of the yeah, go ahead, Mike.
- 3:57Speaker 3: You had it, just, says a source with knowledge of
- 4:00Speaker 3: the situation. It was a meeting violation. According to the source,
- 4:02Speaker 3: an observer from the NFL Players Association believed that one
- 4:06Speaker 3: of the optional early season meetings was a violation because
- 4:09Speaker 3: the fifteen minute meeting in question, a special team session,
- 4:12Speaker 3: was made visible on the internal schedule. In the opinion
- 4:15Speaker 3: of the NFLPA, placing the meeting on the formal schedule
- 4:18Speaker 3: converted it from optional to mandatory.
- 4:22Speaker 4: And just so you know, I want to like the
- 4:24Speaker 4: last part of that line, the NFLPA deemed it x right,
- 4:31Speaker 4: So this is not one of the long lines of
- 4:34Speaker 4: you know, my god, like they just hate the patron
- 4:36Speaker 4: of the NFLPA.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I wonder if you're their own players that I wonder
- 4:40Speaker 3: if there's.
- 4:40Speaker 2: An appeal process.
- 4:41Speaker 3: I wonder that too, you know, I mean, can we
- 4:44Speaker 3: get them back? But I also wonder is this a
- 4:47Speaker 3: player being a pain in the ass? And is this
- 4:50Speaker 3: more signs of the guys being like I don't want
- 4:52Speaker 3: to do it this way anymore?
- 4:53Speaker 6: Like that?
- 4:53Speaker 2: That worries me too, I have the same could be
- 4:56Speaker 2: but the use of the word observer versus rep would
- 5:00Speaker 2: tell you that it's the third party. But I don't know,
- 5:03Speaker 2: it could be just protecting the player.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I mean, could it be any technically any player in
- 5:07Speaker 3: the nfl PA. Could they I mean, could you technically
- 5:10Speaker 3: be that person?
- 5:11Speaker 6: Well?
- 5:11Speaker 2: I don't know, but they have like team reps. You know,
- 5:14Speaker 2: they call him the locker room lawyers. You know, sometimes
- 5:17Speaker 2: your team rep is a real pain in the ass,
- 5:19Speaker 2: and sometimes he's not, you know, So.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's if Florida's report is accurate, and
- 5:25Speaker 4: I have no reason to believe it's not. It seems
- 5:28Speaker 4: silly to me to lose two practices over writing down
- 5:33Speaker 4: that a meeting was to happen instead of just telling
- 5:36Speaker 4: everybody a meeting was going to happen.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But even they made it visible on the schedules, So
- 5:44Speaker 2: what about all the other things on the schedule, They're
- 5:46Speaker 2: just not.
- 5:48Speaker 4: I'd like some.
- 5:51Speaker 2: You just show have a schedule.
- 5:53Speaker 3: So what like if it said lift, like you know, yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 3: it says lyft on the schedule. I mean, I assume
- 5:58Speaker 3: there's guys lifting.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I mean, I just don't know how it all works.
- 6:02Speaker 3: So yeah, it can. It can seem ridiculous right outside.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Maybe it's not ridiculous, but it is ridiculous.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I think it's ridiculous. Yeah, But like I said, I
- 6:10Speaker 4: agree with Mike. And the one concern I would have,
- 6:12Speaker 4: and I don't know if it's true, is just if
- 6:15Speaker 4: a player, you know, because that you know, and it's
- 6:19Speaker 4: I'm not even gonna call him a rat. It's just
- 6:21Speaker 4: I'm gonna be concerned about it because it would be
- 6:24Speaker 4: an example or another illustration that not everybody is on
- 6:28Speaker 4: the same page, right, It's not even like I'm not
- 6:30Speaker 4: blaming anybody, you know, I'm not trying to do the
- 6:32Speaker 4: whistleblower thing like whatever. If it was something they're not
- 6:36Speaker 4: supposed to do when someone had a problem with it,
- 6:38Speaker 4: I'm not mad at the person who had a problem
- 6:40Speaker 4: with it. Well, it's just another indication that it's not
- 6:43Speaker 4: every you know, not everybody is on the same page.
- 6:46Speaker 2: And if it's a player, if that's what happened, right,
- 6:49Speaker 2: If if it's a player, probably this isn't the first
- 6:52Speaker 2: thing he saw, because the first time you'd be like, oh, okay,
- 6:56Speaker 2: maybe you mentioned it to your position, coach, Hey, we're
- 6:58Speaker 2: not supposed to be doing this. But now when you
- 7:02Speaker 2: elevate it to this point, it's like, well, you know,
- 7:06Speaker 2: they're not listening to me, you know, like I I
- 7:09Speaker 2: can't see a player the first time they see something
- 7:12Speaker 2: elevating it to this level, you know. So either it's
- 7:17Speaker 2: I don't know, we shouldn't speculate.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Anyway, that's yeah, we'll just let's just deal with what
- 7:21Speaker 4: we know. They lost two OTAs and wet the chance,
- 7:24Speaker 4: and one of them was today when we were supposed
- 7:25Speaker 4: to be able to watch that.
- 7:26Speaker 2: That's to me, I'm looking at it selfishly. We lost
- 7:29Speaker 2: our chance to see these guys out there.
- 7:32Speaker 3: So now it'll be next Wednesday and the following Tuesday,
- 7:35Speaker 3: and then then he camp will be the next Monday Tuesday.
- 7:37Speaker 2: We lost the opportunity to say that Malik Cunningham is
- 7:40Speaker 2: the next best thing going.
- 7:42Speaker 4: And more importantly, we lost an opportunity to see Evan's
- 7:44Speaker 4: head fall explode shoulders.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Right, you know, it's exploding over this whole thing. Honestly,
- 7:50Speaker 5: I I'm a little fired up about it because I
- 7:53Speaker 5: got to be honest, I think this is ridiculous. I
- 7:55Speaker 5: think this is absolutely ridiculous that the league took away
- 7:58Speaker 5: two practices for a meeting being on a schedule in
- 8:02Speaker 5: the middle of the off season, which it's all voluntary
- 8:07Speaker 5: in across the league. It's all voluntary.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Why can't you have it?
- 8:11Speaker 5: So as long as everybody's here, right, and it's a
- 8:14Speaker 5: fifteen minute meeting. This isn't like they sat down for
- 8:18Speaker 5: six hours and we're coming through film and you had
- 8:20Speaker 5: to be here for it or something like that. And
- 8:23Speaker 5: on top of all of that, what I hated most
- 8:25Speaker 5: about it is that this is a judgment call when
- 8:28Speaker 5: you turn on practice footage from OTAs and people are
- 8:32Speaker 5: tackling people to the ground. There's no judgment call. There's
- 8:35Speaker 5: too much contact in the practice, right, This is a
- 8:38Speaker 5: judgment call in the nflpa's part that they believe that
- 8:42Speaker 5: this could be perceived as mandatory.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Give me a break asking some players, did you think
- 8:47Speaker 2: there was this mandatory No, okay.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Perceived as mandatory and we're just supposed to take your
- 8:53Speaker 5: word for that that they know terrible, terrible.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Terrible, these things terrible.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Either will allow OTAs and their thing and they're voluntary,
- 9:04Speaker 4: Well don't right, Like I think it's ridiculous that Dallas
- 9:07Speaker 4: in Baltimore, just a couple that pop off top of
- 9:10Speaker 4: my head, have lost some of these practices in the past.
- 9:13Speaker 4: I think Seattle too, like she had lots of draft
- 9:15Speaker 4: to Hay's point, Like I've been at a million of
- 9:18Speaker 4: these spring practices. There are guys getting knocked off the
- 9:21Speaker 4: off their feet all the time. Like what was Baltimore
- 9:24Speaker 4: doing that was any worse than what Cincinnati was doing?
- 9:27Speaker 4: Like I don't know, like either allow it or don't
- 9:29Speaker 4: allow it? Yeah, I mean then they're not in pads.
- 9:31Speaker 4: You can't be in pads. So I get that, But otherwise,
- 9:35Speaker 4: if you're in shorts and T shirts, just let them at.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Least if they're if there's contact, If it happens at
- 9:41Speaker 5: practice and there's contact or they're doing something that it
- 9:45Speaker 5: goes over the line in terms of what spring practices
- 9:49Speaker 5: are meant to be. Oklahoma drill sure. And that's one thing.
- 9:52Speaker 7: This is a.
- 9:54Speaker 5: It's a clerical error. And they took away two practices
- 9:58Speaker 5: because of the perception that a meeting could be mandatory.
- 10:02Speaker 5: And I was talking to Deuce about this earlier. It
- 10:05Speaker 5: was like when you were, you know, playing sports growing up,
- 10:08Speaker 5: and they had captain's practices and you were invited to
- 10:11Speaker 5: captain's practices. Were they mandatory?
- 10:14Speaker 8: No?
- 10:14Speaker 5: No, If you wanted to be on the team and
- 10:16Speaker 5: be a and contribute to the team, you got your
- 10:19Speaker 5: butt to captain's practices, even if it was like in
- 10:22Speaker 5: the middle of the summer or it was you know,
- 10:24Speaker 5: and I played lacrosse, they were in like January and February,
- 10:28Speaker 5: well before the season started. You went to captain's practices.
- 10:31Speaker 5: That's what you did. This is what OTA's is, and
- 10:34Speaker 5: that's what these types of things are. And so yeah,
- 10:37Speaker 5: if you're you know, a special teamer or a depth
- 10:41Speaker 5: guy that's trying to fight for a fifty three man
- 10:43Speaker 5: roster spot. You're gonna be here. If you're Tom Brady,
- 10:46Speaker 5: maybe you're not here all the time. Like that's that's
- 10:49Speaker 5: how these things go. And I just think it's ridiculous.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I just I just thought it was interesting. And I
- 10:52Speaker 3: know that all the other violations were mostly contact, but
- 10:55Speaker 3: there were a lot of findes going. I wrote them
- 10:57Speaker 3: down of you know, Dallas two years in a row,
- 10:59Speaker 3: one hundred k for the coach, you know two years ago,
- 11:02Speaker 3: fifty k to the coach, one hundred k to the organization,
- 11:04Speaker 3: San Francisco, fifty k to the coach, one hundred for
- 11:07Speaker 3: content contact ot so that that was what was initially
- 11:10Speaker 3: just interesting to me was there wasn't an immediate report
- 11:12Speaker 3: of fine like that they just lost a practice.
- 11:15Speaker 4: I wonder if there is fine, I'd expected it to be. Yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 4: that's what I guess is it's like on paper, like
- 11:20Speaker 4: you you get doctor and ot A and that leads
- 11:23Speaker 4: to X fine. Yeah, that would be my guest, and
- 11:25Speaker 4: we probably won't know about it because they'll bury that.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I mean, I based on what it is, though, I
- 11:30Speaker 3: would I think they'd expect at least a fifty k
- 11:32Speaker 3: to be be in one hundred k to the organization.
- 11:35Speaker 3: I would think, I mean, that's what the kind of
- 11:36Speaker 3: going rate is.
- 11:37Speaker 4: If you see something, but I could also see it
- 11:39Speaker 4: being less for you know, you know, something on the
- 11:42Speaker 4: schedule as opposed to contact.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Right, lost one ye teacher only lost one.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Remember the safety a couple of years ago. I think
- 11:50Speaker 4: his name was Rashad Baker. We used to call it Indian.
- 11:53Speaker 4: I used to call him a S. Baker, the touchdown
- 11:55Speaker 4: man on the Patriots. Yeah, he never made the team,
- 11:58Speaker 4: but he was in one of these in camps. He
- 12:00Speaker 4: got me. He was laying dudes out everywhere. I mean
- 12:02Speaker 4: he just every every guy that caught a pass ended
- 12:05Speaker 4: up on the ground, tackled, no pads, yeah, nothing, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 4: And for all I know, was even before the most
- 12:11Speaker 4: recent like you know me for it could have been
- 12:14Speaker 4: like oh nine, right about yesterday's I don't know when
- 12:20Speaker 4: it was, but he was I remember Fred we were
- 12:22Speaker 4: talking about him, and we also had we were like,
- 12:24Speaker 4: I don't know what constituence contact that practice, but that's it.
- 12:27Speaker 2: We also had the offensive lineman who.
- 12:30Speaker 4: They complained Yeah, yeah, one year I do remember that too.
- 12:33Speaker 2: I forget which one complained, and I think he was
- 12:35Speaker 2: married to somebody internally for a little bit and they
- 12:38Speaker 2: got divorced.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Okay, so yeah, okay, yeah, now I know who you're
- 12:44Speaker 4: talking about at least, right. Yeah, I don't know if
- 12:46Speaker 4: you I don't know if that's it, but I think
- 12:48Speaker 4: that was it. I'll explain his short ten years Patriots.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, eight five to five PATS five hundred
- 12:53Speaker 2: is the ace ticket hotline, web radio at Patriots dot
- 12:56Speaker 2: com is the email address deduce you got something to say, Well, we.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Got a report of another signing my favorite Anthony, my
- 13:03Speaker 3: favorite names in the whole NFL to say, you can
- 13:05Speaker 3: say without opening your mouth, ye tight end uh yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 3: a little uh.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I can't do that thought. Evan and I were on
- 13:10Speaker 4: the same page of a little bit.
- 13:11Speaker 3: He's played h back, a little bit, a little full back,
- 13:13Speaker 3: he's done some of that stuff. So I don't know
- 13:15Speaker 3: he could have a chance. I mean, there's just no
- 13:17Speaker 3: experience behind those top gets SICKI and uh and Hunter Henry,
- 13:22Speaker 3: you know, Scottie Washington socle like. I think they've played
- 13:24Speaker 3: nine games combined, So I mean he's he's played some games,
- 13:27Speaker 3: most notably player.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Do you think just an opportunity signing or do you
- 13:32Speaker 2: think maybe he can help.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I think he's kind of unique. I mean, at least
- 13:36Speaker 3: of what they have, and I don't think they have
- 13:37Speaker 3: great experience and depth at tight end. I mean it's
- 13:40Speaker 3: I think things get pretty thin if you lose Hunter Henry,
- 13:42Speaker 3: which I mean he hasn't you know, been the most
- 13:44Speaker 3: you know, healthy guy over the last you know, over
- 13:47Speaker 3: the course of his career. But I don't know. I
- 13:48Speaker 3: think just a good solid depth signing. They need nothing crazy,
- 13:51Speaker 3: they needed a tight end, but somebody who can go
- 13:53Speaker 3: out there and play it. And the NFL where are
- 13:55Speaker 3: we in terms of numbers on the run. I'll have
- 13:57Speaker 3: to get rid of somebody because I mean until d.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Max that'll be one.
- 14:01Speaker 3: So once that gets then, but so they'll probably have
- 14:04Speaker 3: to release somebody today, I would guess to make that
- 14:06Speaker 3: move official.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Now, do you think it'll be you know I left
- 14:11Speaker 4: plane to who will get released? It will be someone
- 14:15Speaker 4: of somewhat significance like the last one.
- 14:17Speaker 2: No, it'll be the guy who just it'll be the
- 14:19Speaker 2: guy who reported the schedule.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Just brings it full.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Yeah, we're not supposed to be doing.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Slate's probably the one that posted it.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Chris, Chris board Bill would like to see you.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Yeah, the greatest.
- 14:35Speaker 3: You can't find he said, he can't find a weakness
- 14:36Speaker 3: in the player.
- 14:37Speaker 4: I guess we found the week now.
- 14:37Speaker 3: I'm just kidding, that's not we don't know for sure.
- 14:41Speaker 5: I would have some choice words for the whistleblower.
- 14:44Speaker 4: This guy feeling careful, not afraid to violate.
- 14:47Speaker 2: You can't have retaliation.
- 14:49Speaker 3: I'm feeling fresh.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I'm feeling like I have to be there.
- 14:52Speaker 9: Did you.
- 14:54Speaker 3: The only one that did the course?
- 14:56Speaker 4: A baby? What a baby? I'm doing the baby voice?
- 15:01Speaker 4: Poor thing? You have to go to a fifteen minute meeting,
- 15:06Speaker 4: and they if that's if there was any element of that,
- 15:09Speaker 4: I would agree with evident Mike, I think that's troubling.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm hopeful it's a review. I'm hopeful it's an
- 15:16Speaker 3: nfl P A review, like Fred said of and they
- 15:19Speaker 3: had a documentation, saw the screen and someone's like, what
- 15:22Speaker 3: is well they have those screens in the locker room
- 15:24Speaker 3: because well, if they're looking at the schedule, right, but
- 15:26Speaker 3: what is on there?
- 15:27Speaker 2: That's okay.
- 15:28Speaker 4: I don't think there's a person that comes to every
- 15:31Speaker 4: place they just they watch videos, do a little audits.
- 15:33Speaker 2: That's just what I don't get though.
- 15:34Speaker 3: If it is like they are reviewing the scheduled, then
- 15:36Speaker 3: what's on the schedule, like be like a fifteen minute
- 15:38Speaker 3: special teams but that's in a violation, like what could
- 15:40Speaker 3: be on the schedule, then it's not.
- 15:42Speaker 2: It's on the schedule of an optional day.
- 15:45Speaker 4: The whole that's my point.
- 15:46Speaker 5: The whole day is optional, right, is optional?
- 15:51Speaker 2: The whole thing optional?
- 15:53Speaker 3: So like, you know, how did the whole thing become optional?
- 15:56Speaker 2: Right?
- 15:57Speaker 5: Like Stefan Diggs is not at Bill's OTAs is not
- 16:00Speaker 5: there because it's optional.
- 16:02Speaker 2: The only thing that was maybe the special teams meeting
- 16:05Speaker 2: was on a day that wasn't a scheduled O T A.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:08Speaker 3: I don't know, because how can anything be on the schedule,
- 16:10Speaker 3: Like right, it says eat lunch.
- 16:12Speaker 5: I feel pressured, like in parentheses next to every single
- 16:16Speaker 5: thing on this optional optional option, optional only if you
- 16:21Speaker 5: want to eat today?
- 16:22Speaker 3: Optional?
- 16:24Speaker 2: Oh boy? All right, well stop yeah? Otherwise, uh, I
- 16:30Speaker 2: know your guy yesterday was on a rant about Aaron
- 16:33Speaker 2: Rodgers he strained his calf and yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 4: And optional. I didn't I didn't hear.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It, but it was funny. It is funny. It is
- 16:47Speaker 2: like classic Aaron Rodgers, though in explaining what happened, he
- 16:51Speaker 2: kind of threw his trainers under the bus. Yeah, they
- 16:54Speaker 2: had us doing this thing on a ball, you know,
- 16:57Speaker 2: and I heard it while I was you know, it's
- 16:58Speaker 2: like the thing you made me do hurt me, right,
- 17:02Speaker 2: you made me not that I haven't been like just
- 17:05Speaker 2: doing nothing all off season, and you know you made
- 17:08Speaker 2: me work.
- 17:09Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what did it.
- 17:11Speaker 2: So that anyway, that's hopefully awfully that continues for.
- 17:14Speaker 4: The If you had to place odds for working or
- 17:18Speaker 4: not working, and like when I say working, I'm not
- 17:20Speaker 4: saying they win the super Bowl it works anyway. I
- 17:23Speaker 4: would say, no, they win games, they were winning, they
- 17:25Speaker 4: have a winning record, and they're in the playoffs, either
- 17:27Speaker 4: in the playoffs or in playoff contention.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Then then it worked.
- 17:30Speaker 2: It worked. What do you think the odds are, I'd
- 17:33Speaker 2: say I think it works. I'd say eight to one
- 17:35Speaker 2: it works.
- 17:36Speaker 4: I say fifty to fifty. I mean, I could see
- 17:38Speaker 4: it go one either way.
- 17:39Speaker 3: I'm close on it, but I think it will. I
- 17:40Speaker 3: just I got to be honest. I had a lot
- 17:42Speaker 3: of respect for the team that they put together at him,
- 17:45Speaker 3: I don't.
- 17:45Speaker 4: I don't necessarily have all but here as much for
- 17:48Speaker 4: the quarterback who I should have.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Here's the thing, based on his skills set, they have.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Enough talent where all he has to be is good
- 17:56Speaker 2: and they're a hell of a lot better than they
- 17:58Speaker 2: were last year.
- 17:59Speaker 4: That is true, you know, really that he doesn't have
- 18:02Speaker 4: to be if he played like Matt Jones did his
- 18:06Speaker 4: rookie year, which to me would be a colossal disappointment
- 18:09Speaker 4: for Aaron Rodgers.
- 18:10Speaker 3: But if he played just that well, they should winner, right,
- 18:13Speaker 3: I mean with Brees Hall that's coming back.
- 18:16Speaker 2: You know, what they need out of him isn't prime
- 18:19Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers. They just needed to be good and competent,
- 18:21Speaker 2: and they'll be a hell of a lot, you know.
- 18:24Speaker 2: That's why.
- 18:25Speaker 4: That's why I think it's I think it fails miserably.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I helped you, right.
- 18:30Speaker 3: I like to scratch under the surface.
- 18:31Speaker 4: I can tell when he's quiet.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Why Why Because I think it will work great for
- 18:36Speaker 5: the first month of the season. Then I truly think
- 18:41Speaker 5: that he's kind of washed. And I think that the
- 18:44Speaker 5: whole operation that they have running over there on offense
- 18:48Speaker 5: is shaky at best. From a coaching standpoint. I mean,
- 18:52Speaker 5: they got Nathaniel Hackett running their offense, and something tells
- 18:55Speaker 5: me that that's gonna The league will figure out what
- 18:58Speaker 5: they did in the first month of the season in
- 19:00Speaker 5: and I don't know if they're.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Going to have a plan B.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Maybe I just think they gotta I'm not saying they're
- 19:04Speaker 5: going to be a disaster, like they're gonna go six
- 19:06Speaker 5: and eleven or something like that, but I think relative
- 19:09Speaker 5: to expectations, it ends up being a failure.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I think now if you ask me, what are the
- 19:14Speaker 2: odds that he gets injured or then, I think that's
- 19:20Speaker 2: higher than normal.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Because the second that he feels like it's not going well, yeah,
- 19:25Speaker 5: that's it. Yeah, because he's one of those guys that
- 19:28Speaker 5: just he quits. He quits like the second that it's
- 19:31Speaker 5: not perfect, he's going to be like no special media.
- 19:36Speaker 3: In New York throwing gas on those flames, and they
- 19:39Speaker 3: can't wait to make that happen.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Right, yeah, all right, And then I guess we have
- 19:44Speaker 2: to mention good luck to the Celtics tonight. Yeah, that's huge.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Don't let them get too don't let them get too
- 19:51Speaker 2: I mean, it's so funny how people have turned though.
- 19:53Speaker 2: They went from these dogs to it.
- 19:58Speaker 4: I'm just gonna let you know I'm going to I'm
- 20:00Speaker 4: going to defend a lot of Celtics fans here. There
- 20:03Speaker 4: wasn't a lot of changing. I can't tell you how
- 20:06Speaker 4: many people on my Twitter feed.
- 20:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:08Speaker 4: They're the better team. They can win for in a row.
- 20:10Speaker 4: They're the better team after.
- 20:11Speaker 2: That three after that game, yes, perform. I don't know
- 20:14Speaker 2: who is on his Twitter feed. I don't like he
- 20:16Speaker 2: always has like people.
- 20:17Speaker 4: I was already doing.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Everything.
- 20:21Speaker 4: I am too, but I don't know that's because you
- 20:23Speaker 4: have a rational bone in your body. But I'll tell
- 20:25Speaker 4: you who's on my feet. And I've talked to you
- 20:27Speaker 4: about this before, and you guys haven't really seemed to
- 20:29Speaker 4: be able to figure this out. I don't know where
- 20:32Speaker 4: all these people came from. I don't know who they are.
- 20:34Speaker 4: And I don't know the new Twitter algorithm.
- 20:36Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:36Speaker 4: This is not new, This is not algorithm. No, Mike
- 20:40Speaker 4: knows a lot of the same people. You mentioned, one
- 20:44Speaker 4: of them that I do not follow, who is on
- 20:46Speaker 4: my timeline, and you took a rocket shot at them Tuesday.
- 20:51Speaker 4: I don't know how he got He's one of them,
- 20:54Speaker 4: that Dan Kelly guy is one of them. I don't
- 20:56Speaker 4: know how these people got to get on my my timeline.
- 20:59Speaker 4: I don't don't know who they are, and I'm not
- 21:01Speaker 4: trying to make fun of anybody. I just don't know
- 21:03Speaker 4: how I got these perpetual pomp pom waivers on my
- 21:07Speaker 4: timeline that I don't follow.
- 21:09Speaker 2: But the majority of people after that said it's over.
- 21:12Speaker 2: It's over.
- 21:13Speaker 4: It's not as yeah, I mean, I think it's like
- 21:18Speaker 4: fifty to fifty. I think there's a lot of people
- 21:20Speaker 4: who think that they better now now they tonight, they
- 21:25Speaker 4: should just blow the whole team up.
- 21:27Speaker 5: This is a lay up tonight, win tonight.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Why do you think it's a layout?
- 21:31Speaker 4: If they're as good as you say that there, if
- 21:34Speaker 4: they're a nine point favorite in a game tonight and they.
- 21:37Speaker 5: Lose the Vegas line like they're gonna lose again at.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Home, I know, but the Vegas line has been wrong
- 21:42Speaker 2: all the way through. It's been wrong. Everybody's been wrong.
- 21:47Speaker 2: You know, they're not looking at what's going on. I
- 21:49Speaker 2: don't think this is a layup tonight, Are you kidding?
- 21:51Speaker 4: This is not The team's missing like the third best
- 21:54Speaker 4: player and you're at home and you can't win that game,
- 21:58Speaker 4: I get rid of all of them. I keep to
- 22:00Speaker 4: them and get rid of everybody else. If they lose
- 22:02Speaker 4: this game tonight. Yeah, I'm emotional like that, you know.
- 22:05Speaker 2: I think that you have to make severe moves even
- 22:08Speaker 2: if they win.
- 22:09Speaker 4: You know, even if they had an win this series,
- 22:13Speaker 4: what are you gonna do. Everybody's gonna make it out
- 22:16Speaker 4: to be a miracle.
- 22:17Speaker 5: I just don't let them win tonight.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Well, they're going to win tonight.
- 22:21Speaker 5: If they win tonight, I'm not calling it the series
- 22:23Speaker 5: at three one. I'm not calling that they they avoided
- 22:26Speaker 5: the embarrassment of getting swept. Good for you, But this team,
- 22:29Speaker 5: I know for a fact that they could easily look
- 22:31Speaker 5: at it and say, well, at least we didn't get swept, right, Like,
- 22:34Speaker 5: you know, I.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Rule nothing out. You're right, I rule nothing out with them.
- 22:38Speaker 5: At least, you know that thirty point blow out in
- 22:40Speaker 5: Game three was they didn't want to go down like that.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Good for them.
- 22:43Speaker 5: They won Game four, But I could definitely see the
- 22:45Speaker 5: Celtics coming out tonight and being like, well, we just
- 22:48Speaker 5: really didn't want to like get embarrassed and get swept.
- 22:52Speaker 3: But regardless guy would play if they if they needed to.
- 22:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but if the Celtics win tonight, now now we're
- 23:00Speaker 5: cooking with gas. Now it's a real series because Miami
- 23:04Speaker 5: Game six, that's you don't want to play Game seven
- 23:07Speaker 5: in the Garden. Like the Celtics they played don't play
- 23:10Speaker 5: great at home to begin with, But Game seven at
- 23:13Speaker 5: the Garden with this Cord have been blowout. So I
- 23:16Speaker 5: mean Milwaukee Game seven last year, Philly Game seven this year.
- 23:19Speaker 5: We're talking like twenty five point massacres by the Celtics
- 23:22Speaker 5: and home game sevens in their history together.
- 23:25Speaker 4: So losing Game seven, they would game six. I just
- 23:30Speaker 4: I think I think they're so mentally weak. It's ridiculous.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Things that we've seen during I think that's are things
- 23:36Speaker 2: that we saw during the season when they played better teams.
- 23:40Speaker 5: Right, No, I don't know.
- 23:42Speaker 4: There's nothing to do with the it's nothing to do
- 23:45Speaker 4: with the calibers. It's all about them. Yeah, Well, which
- 23:50Speaker 4: isn't all that great. There's only like ten teams in
- 23:53Speaker 4: the league.
- 23:53Speaker 5: I think the one the one thing that have the
- 23:55Speaker 5: Celtics have going for them about coming back in this
- 23:58Speaker 5: series is that a lot of the heat role players
- 24:01Speaker 5: not Jimmy Butler, not bam Adebayo. A lot of the
- 24:04Speaker 5: heat role players have been shooting out of their mind
- 24:06Speaker 5: from three in the playoffs, and if they finally come
- 24:09Speaker 5: back to normal and some of those guys regrets that
- 24:13Speaker 5: won game four, right, and if that continues, if the
- 24:16Speaker 5: you know, Gay Vinton's not playing tonight, if the if
- 24:19Speaker 5: the Strausses, if the Caleb Martins, if the Kyle Lowrys,
- 24:22Speaker 5: the Kevin Loves, if those guys all of a sudden
- 24:24Speaker 5: start chucking up a bunch of bricks, then yeah, then
- 24:27Speaker 5: then then your back endt.
- 24:29Speaker 2: The Celtics still have to put the defensive effort in
- 24:32Speaker 2: that they put in.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm this is it shots. But because the hole
- 24:38Speaker 4: they had smart they played. Grant Williams, Derek White and
- 24:42Speaker 4: Al Horford made eighteen threes the other.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Day for the Celtics.
- 24:46Speaker 4: Caleb Martin, they all missed, Gabe Vincent, Max Struss and
- 24:52Speaker 4: what's the Williams kid uh Duncan Robinson. Yeah combined for
- 24:56Speaker 4: four No. No, but that's the difference in the game.
- 24:59Speaker 4: But the difference those guys are wide open. They've been
- 25:03Speaker 4: missing all. I think the Celtic Al Horford hasn't had
- 25:05Speaker 4: a guy near him on a three point all series
- 25:08Speaker 4: last game. He decided to Williams the better defense last
- 25:13Speaker 4: game traffic.
- 25:15Speaker 2: How many trips down the floor? I think there were
- 25:18Speaker 2: like six consecutive trips down the floor where Miami went
- 25:22Speaker 2: hated and didn't score. And it was because they turned
- 25:24Speaker 2: And it wasn't because they were taken outside shots and
- 25:27Speaker 2: missing them.
- 25:28Speaker 4: They were turning the ball over.
- 25:29Speaker 3: No, no, they weren't. They were missing nothing. Run was
- 25:32Speaker 3: all they will.
- 25:33Speaker 2: They were going in and it was a contested shot
- 25:35Speaker 2: down low and they were missing. Patriots were getting the
- 25:38Speaker 2: Patriots I keep saying the page. The Celtics were getting
- 25:40Speaker 2: the rebound and at that time the Celtics weren't hitting either.
- 25:44Speaker 2: But there were like six consecutive trips where it was
- 25:46Speaker 2: contested shot down load. The miss were hitting and the
- 25:49Speaker 2: Celtics got. Celtics got there, went on an eighteen o
- 25:52Speaker 2: run in the third quarter. Eventually they broke it open.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Talked about when it was still tight, they weren't turned.
- 25:58Speaker 3: That's when it was tight, they will.
- 26:00Speaker 4: The Celtics were losing at the time of that eighteen
- 26:01Speaker 4: oh run.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I nine, the Celtics played much better defense.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Sure if that makes you feel better. Great.
- 26:09Speaker 4: It's all about being wide open and making a shot.
- 26:11Speaker 4: The Celtics made them eighteen of them that the heat
- 26:14Speaker 4: made for them. I'm not talking about Jason Tatum and
- 26:17Speaker 4: Jimmy Butler. Those guys get defended. Max Troups doesn't get defended.
- 26:22Speaker 4: It's all about whether or not he makes the shot.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Marcus Smart doesn't get defended. It's all about whether he
- 26:27Speaker 4: makes it or not. The first three games, the Celtics
- 26:30Speaker 4: missed all of those, yep, and the heat made them all.
- 26:33Speaker 5: Yeah, the heats whole offense is the defense reacting to
- 26:38Speaker 5: Jimmy Butler with the ball right. So either he's going
- 26:41Speaker 5: to score on his own or he's going to kick
- 26:42Speaker 5: the ball out because the whole defense's collapse on him.
- 26:45Speaker 5: In the pain when that defense collapses, Struce Duncan rock
- 26:50Speaker 5: like all these guys have been just draining threes all
- 26:52Speaker 5: playoff long. They've been shooting like forty six percent from
- 26:55Speaker 5: three in the playoffs, and they were thirty I think
- 26:58Speaker 5: thirty three or thirty four percent regular season shooting team, and.
- 27:03Speaker 4: They shot twenty five the other night.
- 27:04Speaker 5: So if they regress back to what they were in
- 27:06Speaker 5: the regular season, for three more games the win, Celtics
- 27:09Speaker 5: will win the series, but if they continue to be hot,
- 27:12Speaker 5: then they won't. And not having gave Vincent tonight is
- 27:14Speaker 5: huge because he's one of those driving kick guys, you know,
- 27:17Speaker 5: he's a spot up shooter that they really have relied on.
- 27:21Speaker 5: So we'll see. But I really think that the Celtics
- 27:24Speaker 5: win tonight. It's not a series yet. Don't tell me
- 27:26Speaker 5: that that it's that they they're in it. They're not
- 27:28Speaker 5: in it. It's three to one, nobody's ever come back.
- 27:31Speaker 5: You make it three to two. That then it becomes
- 27:33Speaker 5: a little bit different. I think also with the psyche
- 27:35Speaker 5: of the Celtics, you can, let's take the other two
- 27:39Speaker 5: games out of it for a second. That they wanted
- 27:40Speaker 5: to get to three to two. They've come back from
- 27:42Speaker 5: three to two. So if you if you lock into
- 27:45Speaker 5: the fact that, oh we just have to win game
- 27:46Speaker 5: six and seven, well we did that against Milwaukee, we
- 27:49Speaker 5: did that against Philly this year. It's it's possible. And
- 27:52Speaker 5: now it's a Celtics podcast.
- 27:53Speaker 2: I reckon Reckon Kentucky says, no disrespect to the Celtics,
- 27:57Speaker 2: but please wake me up when you start talking about
- 27:59Speaker 2: the Patriots.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Thank you, oh boy, thank you.
- 28:02Speaker 4: It is May.
- 28:04Speaker 2: It is May, and it is Boston and you know,
- 28:06Speaker 2: I mean, and they are playing tonight, so and we
- 28:09Speaker 2: had our practice canceled, so what do we forget about?
- 28:12Speaker 2: You know, otherwise we'd be all over the Patriots today.
- 28:15Speaker 3: You know, with like real, actual, not ourcham.
- 28:18Speaker 5: I can't do it with the Celtics. I just I
- 28:19Speaker 5: can't get my hopes up because then they won't do
- 28:23Speaker 5: it and I'll get crushed.
- 28:24Speaker 3: So I'm just so you're you're You're just gonna tip
- 28:27Speaker 3: your toe and dip your toe in the water tonight. Slowly.
- 28:29Speaker 4: I get what you said.
- 28:30Speaker 3: I get.
- 28:31Speaker 9: Well.
- 28:31Speaker 3: The other night, I really think they win tonight.
- 28:33Speaker 5: The other night just looked at me and she was
- 28:34Speaker 5: like are you okay? And I was like yeah, why
- 28:36Speaker 5: And She's like, like they're winning and you're not excited,
- 28:38Speaker 5: Like what's going on with you? And I was like,
- 28:40Speaker 5: I'm not doing it. I'm not allowing myself to get
- 28:42Speaker 5: my hopes up.
- 28:42Speaker 4: I'm not going to do this.
- 28:44Speaker 10: You know.
- 28:44Speaker 5: It was Game three, nineteen to eight reducts. Maybe maybe
- 28:48Speaker 5: it was. Maybe it was, but I'm not getting my
- 28:50Speaker 5: hopes out.
- 28:50Speaker 4: And it's a friend's point. I feel very strongly the
- 28:54Speaker 4: Celtics will win tonight. But I felt probably even stronger
- 28:57Speaker 4: they would win game two, right and they didn't. Now
- 29:02Speaker 4: Here's why I don't think they can win four in
- 29:03Speaker 4: a row. All the shooting stuff aside. The Celtics only
- 29:06Speaker 4: have one way to win, and that is to be
- 29:08Speaker 4: up by double digits or you know, preferably closer to
- 29:12Speaker 4: twenty when you hit the five minute mark. If one
- 29:15Speaker 4: of the last three games is close, they will lose it.
- 29:18Speaker 4: So it's hard to me to envision them blowing them
- 29:21Speaker 4: out four times in a row. And that's what they
- 29:24Speaker 4: need to do because the heat have proven if it's close,
- 29:26Speaker 4: they'll win it. That's fair, all right.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Eight five five PATS five hundred is the a sticket
- 29:32Speaker 2: outline web radio at patries dot com is the email address.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I mean, if you want to talk Celtics.
- 29:37Speaker 3: You can about how about little respect to the Panthers
- 29:39Speaker 3: for Panthers.
- 29:40Speaker 7: No, stop it, stop it the hurricane no, but you
- 29:43Speaker 7: got to give him respects now, you know, you know
- 29:46Speaker 7: what we saw the Stanley Cup final was the first
- 29:50Speaker 7: Stanley Cup.
- 29:53Speaker 3: That was that.
- 29:54Speaker 2: That was the Stanley.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Cupp three to one. I mean, Martian even in the
- 29:57Speaker 3: game seven Martians, I mean.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Why why are you doing this? I mean it's like,
- 30:00Speaker 4: I did you guys hear any of Rod Brindlemore like,
- 30:06Speaker 4: I know exactly what he's talking about.
- 30:08Speaker 3: I know exactly what he's talking about.
- 30:11Speaker 4: Like does he take it to the theater of the absurd? Yes,
- 30:13Speaker 4: it was a little andy like you know where he
- 30:16Speaker 4: goes way too far. But I mean they basically lost
- 30:18Speaker 4: three overtime games and you're gonna kill him for like
- 30:21Speaker 4: a no show in the fun like all those games
- 30:23Speaker 4: could have gone either way.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Chuck man, he's something. It's gonna go down.
- 30:30Speaker 4: It's one of the flukiest things that you've ever seen.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Just what what do you mean that one team wins
- 30:36Speaker 4: every time in that spot? Do you know what I mean?
- 30:39Speaker 5: I just I have no the hockey playoffs in general,
- 30:42Speaker 5: I have no time for I haven't watched a single
- 30:45Speaker 5: minute second of the hockey playoffs since the Bruins got
- 30:48Speaker 5: There were eleven and not even a millisecond.
- 30:51Speaker 4: I have since being down three to one to the Bruins.
- 30:53Speaker 3: There were eleven and I get him.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Then, I haven't watched every game the Celtics pretty much
- 30:57Speaker 2: every game could.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Have gone either way, heep getting them bailing them out.
- 31:01Speaker 2: All right, let's get to the phones. Chris with a T,
- 31:04Speaker 2: I A N is on the line. What's up Christian?
- 31:07Speaker 8: No, man, it's not Christian's Christian.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Sorry, that's my bad.
- 31:12Speaker 8: Actually, other Christians he's cool too.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's my bad.
- 31:15Speaker 3: He's not as as you.
- 31:16Speaker 2: This is just Christian Christians.
- 31:18Speaker 3: He's not as cool as you.
- 31:21Speaker 8: Hey, So to two comics. One is the question, actually
- 31:23Speaker 8: one is the comics. I'm hot and cold on what
- 31:26Speaker 8: the league is doing with the the punch returning and
- 31:32Speaker 8: even the kickoff stuff, with the draft capital that we spent.
- 31:38Speaker 2: I'm sorry nobody said anything.
- 31:40Speaker 8: No, keep going okay with the draft capital that we
- 31:44Speaker 8: spent on guys that are going to be potentially only
- 31:47Speaker 8: special team players. Question number one is do you see
- 31:52Speaker 8: do you guys see us sort of flipping the roster
- 31:55Speaker 8: to free up some more spots for other positions now
- 31:58Speaker 8: that the special teams guys aren't going to be that important,
- 32:01Speaker 8: or just stashing those guys from next year in case
- 32:03Speaker 8: this one year try it doesn't work out. That's my
- 32:06Speaker 8: first question. And then my second question is if Boute
- 32:10Speaker 8: and Douglas come on and camp as it seems like
- 32:13Speaker 8: we're sort of predicting they might. Which one of the
- 32:16Speaker 8: veterans do you see is being more expendable, Kendrick Bourne
- 32:18Speaker 8: or Devonte Parker? Thanks, guys, I'm always great to.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Talk to you, all right. Thanks for the special teams thing.
- 32:24Speaker 4: I don't see a lot of change.
- 32:25Speaker 3: I mean, I know that the bottom two guys are
- 32:27Speaker 3: special teams guys, but I mean they also they don't
- 32:29Speaker 3: really have any undrafted rookies this year. Usually get like
- 32:31Speaker 3: ten undrafted rookies. So some of those late round guys
- 32:33Speaker 3: in the draft, I see them just as kind of
- 32:35Speaker 3: uda face. Anyway, So we're just talking about kickoff.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Let me ask a question on a kickoff, do you
- 32:41Speaker 2: like if it's a short kickoff, do you see a
- 32:42Speaker 2: lot of guys fair catching?
- 32:45Speaker 3: Well, even if you get it in twenty five I
- 32:49Speaker 3: twenty like you're waving it and you're.
- 32:52Speaker 2: A little bit about inside five yard line, five yard
- 32:55Speaker 2: I would fair catch, you.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Would, unless it's like a line drive right at you.
- 32:59Speaker 2: You tell your guys to fair catch.
- 33:00Speaker 4: No, I would tell him to judge the ball like
- 33:02Speaker 4: I do a punt, like Evan said last week, and
- 33:05Speaker 4: that and from that see That's why I push back
- 33:07Speaker 4: on the notion of like special tea changed right exactly,
- 33:11Speaker 4: because you still have to defend the kickoff like that.
- 33:14Speaker 4: They can still return it.
- 33:16Speaker 5: So in theory, you still have to defend the kickoff,
- 33:18Speaker 5: so you still have to put eleven guys out there
- 33:20Speaker 5: that can make a tackle. So even though we can
- 33:23Speaker 5: have a larger conversation about the value of special teams
- 33:26Speaker 5: in general, and if that's the talk you want to have,
- 33:28Speaker 5: then fine, but I don't think that this rule changes
- 33:32Speaker 5: the philosophy of special teams being important to Bill Belichick
- 33:35Speaker 5: because you're still kicking off and the ball is still
- 33:37Speaker 5: going into a returner's hand, and the chance that he
- 33:41Speaker 5: returns it is still high.
- 33:43Speaker 4: So like the two ones against the Bills, Yeah, neither
- 33:49Speaker 4: one of them went into the end zone. So now
- 33:51Speaker 4: you're saying that they're gonna catch those, I don't think so.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Not if you're kicking low line drives. Now, if you
- 33:57Speaker 4: can hang it up high and he's catching at the
- 33:59Speaker 4: five yard, is gonna fair catch it every time? But
- 34:01Speaker 4: I don't think it's gonna I don't think it's gonna
- 34:04Speaker 4: be a huge difference in terms of roster construction.
- 34:06Speaker 3: I think that.
- 34:07Speaker 4: You know, someone in the mailbag this week asked a question,
- 34:10Speaker 4: it's a good question, you know about guys that just
- 34:13Speaker 4: return you know, maybe, uh, that's the liberty guy Douglas.
- 34:19Speaker 4: I always want to call him Davis for the linebacker
- 34:21Speaker 4: from the Saints.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I should I should.
- 34:25Speaker 5: Know the Shrine Bowl there was a Dallas Daniels and
- 34:28Speaker 5: a the Mario Douglas and they both played slot receiver
- 34:32Speaker 5: on the Patriots tea.
- 34:33Speaker 3: I can't do I can't do any of that a
- 34:35Speaker 3: lot of these. But you know, let's say that he
- 34:38Speaker 3: has like this.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Dynamic returnability and he doesn't really have any other special
- 34:42Speaker 4: teams attributes. I have no idea what he's gonna do.
- 34:45Speaker 4: But and he's not showing, you know, any promise for
- 34:49Speaker 4: the slot. I don't think a guy like that is
- 34:52Speaker 4: going to win a roster spot. I didn't think a
- 34:54Speaker 4: guy like that would win a ross spot ten years ago.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I don't think Bill values it enough that that's the
- 34:59Speaker 4: only thing he does. Like even Kodero Patterson, who was
- 35:02Speaker 4: one of the best returners in the league, he found
- 35:05Speaker 4: a way to incorporate in the offense. Yeah, and if
- 35:08Speaker 4: he doesn't do that with Douglas. I don't think he'll stay.
- 35:11Speaker 3: I think he's totally right, Paul, And I think like
- 35:13Speaker 3: just look at like a couple of years ago when
- 35:14Speaker 3: it seemed like they'll just put pold him back there,
- 35:16Speaker 3: like you know, like they didn't have a guy and
- 35:17Speaker 3: they're like how many times, like they're blunt used to
- 35:20Speaker 3: do it. Yeah.
- 35:22Speaker 2: So on his other question, if you know Boute or
- 35:26Speaker 2: the other guy, you know, make a spot who's expendable, and.
- 35:30Speaker 3: I guess we could say Born. I just don't know
- 35:31Speaker 3: if they're in a position to toss either one of
- 35:34Speaker 3: those guys, Like you don't you struggled so much last year?
- 35:37Speaker 3: Do you really think like these two rookies they look
- 35:39Speaker 3: pretty good in the preseason, and now you're just gonna
- 35:41Speaker 3: get rid of Devonte Parker, Like, I don't know, it's
- 35:44Speaker 3: a lot. I mean, I guess it could be a
- 35:45Speaker 3: number one. I would say it would be Born, But
- 35:47Speaker 3: I also just they don't have a lot, Like I
- 35:49Speaker 3: just you know where you can be like, all right,
- 35:51Speaker 3: we're all set now get rid of Kendrick Bourne. Like
- 35:53Speaker 3: I still think he's a good player that could contribute.
- 35:55Speaker 3: So I don't know it it'd be an interesting problem
- 35:59Speaker 3: to have. I'd love to just have one of those
- 36:01Speaker 3: guys step up, but I don't know. I'd be surprised
- 36:04Speaker 3: if they if they jettus in those guys.
- 36:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I get by the sheer numbers of it. Carrying
- 36:09Speaker 5: six receivers is a little bit out of character for them,
- 36:11Speaker 5: So if somebody has to go, if those two rookies pop,
- 36:14Speaker 5: But I wouldn't rule out carrying six receivers.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Because if you're talking about Ferkser or Kendrick Bourne.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Right right, they're just there's ways to do it, especially
- 36:25Speaker 5: if you consider some of the players that I think
- 36:28Speaker 5: are guys that could get to the practice squad and
- 36:32Speaker 5: then be elevated sure for games and things like like
- 36:34Speaker 5: you know they did that with Miles Bryant a few
- 36:36Speaker 5: years ago, Like is anybody no offense like really picking
- 36:39Speaker 5: up Miles bryan or running to the.
- 36:40Speaker 4: Way down to things like that too with the offensive lineman,
- 36:43Speaker 4: and you know they're going to have offensive lineman on
- 36:47Speaker 4: your practice squad. Every team does right, right, and especially
- 36:50Speaker 4: now with the sixteen guys. You know, do you think
- 36:54Speaker 4: you can get those guys more readily to the practice
- 36:57Speaker 4: squad than you can? Cause it might you know you
- 36:58Speaker 4: might look at and say, well, that's fourth and fourth
- 37:00Speaker 4: round picks higher than sixth round picks. But you know,
- 37:03Speaker 4: especially Booty is a higher profile kind of guy than
- 37:07Speaker 4: the offensive lineman. So and I know that sounds silly,
- 37:09Speaker 4: like they get Yeah, I think sometimes they get fooled.
- 37:13Speaker 4: And they remember that guy from LSU who had three
- 37:16Speaker 4: hundred yards in that game as a freshman and was
- 37:18Speaker 4: considered a second round pick at worst, you know, in
- 37:21Speaker 4: first round pick in some circles, they remember that. And
- 37:24Speaker 4: I know that talent is there, whereas some of the linemen.
- 37:27Speaker 3: You know, yeah, he's good, solid, Yeah, Jake andrew he's
- 37:30Speaker 3: gonna he's gonna have a career in the league, you know,
- 37:32Speaker 3: maybe yeah, And don't you feel like most teams right
- 37:33Speaker 3: now have kind of those offensive linemen in their building
- 37:35Speaker 3: right now, like you probably got some in the draft
- 37:38Speaker 3: or undrafted brookies like and as much as those guys
- 37:40Speaker 3: are fourth round picks, early day three picks, it's still
- 37:43Speaker 3: it's hard to see Jake Andrews he's not making it
- 37:46Speaker 3: through like I think somebody like that probably could.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, let's go to Todd North Carolina. I
- 37:52Speaker 2: hate Todd.
- 37:53Speaker 6: Hey, good afternoon, guys. I just thought i'd give you
- 37:56Speaker 6: guys a bit of a heads up, and he was
- 37:58Speaker 6: hinting that he would like to come back yet of
- 38:00Speaker 6: his podcast.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Plus I'd like to come back at the end of
- 38:04Speaker 2: his podcast.
- 38:05Speaker 6: No, at the end of his podcast this week six
- 38:07Speaker 6: Rings and Football Things. We want to come back to
- 38:10Speaker 6: see you guys, and you know, if you can give
- 38:11Speaker 6: him a raise, he definitely wants to.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think Andy's agent.
- 38:16Speaker 4: I'd like to say, that's the interesting mutual.
- 38:18Speaker 2: You get two shots and that's it too. You know.
- 38:22Speaker 6: I've got two quick little questions to go along with
- 38:24Speaker 6: the goofy garment. The practice squad. When is it that
- 38:29Speaker 6: is it set right when you break and get down
- 38:31Speaker 6: to that fifty three man roster or does it get like.
- 38:34Speaker 3: The last No, you got to resign those guys like
- 38:37Speaker 3: the next day, so you agent. Everybody's a free agent then.
- 38:41Speaker 5: But it's always a fluid situation, absolutely, okay.
- 38:45Speaker 6: That and the other question is what about tight ends
- 38:49Speaker 6: other than Gronk. I really haven't thought of any other
- 38:52Speaker 6: tight end that they really drafted and you know, stuck
- 38:56Speaker 6: with the team in the last fifteen years.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Ben Watson, Dan grahamout a couple talk about fourteen years
- 39:05Speaker 3: the last.
- 39:05Speaker 4: Yeah, because the other one count Yeah, Hernandez counts.
- 39:09Speaker 6: Well was he a tight end or was he was
- 39:12Speaker 6: tight end?
- 39:13Speaker 4: Okaytyounds yeah, but it.
- 39:16Speaker 6: Just it just seems to me that we haven't.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Well, they haven't really reached they haven't gone high for
- 39:20Speaker 2: a tight end in a while.
- 39:21Speaker 6: No, you know, yeah, they haven't.
- 39:22Speaker 4: Well, they did take two third round picks, right, yeah,
- 39:26Speaker 4: thanks keenan ASIASI were both third round.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 39:30Speaker 5: That was a but that draft I have to go
- 39:33Speaker 5: back and fact check it exactly. But they hadn't drafted
- 39:37Speaker 5: a tight end in like ages because they had rocks.
- 39:41Speaker 5: So like what, you know, what, what was the point man?
- 39:44Speaker 4: Right?
- 39:44Speaker 5: Who is you know, they signed a guy like Martell's
- 39:46Speaker 5: Bennett or Scott Chandler or whoever to just be tight
- 39:49Speaker 5: end too, But what was the point in wasting a
- 39:51Speaker 5: top fifty pick on a tight end when he had
- 39:52Speaker 5: the greatest tight end of all time on your roster?
- 39:54Speaker 3: I would say they would have been wasting it if
- 39:56Speaker 3: they did in like twenty eighteen when he was starting
- 39:58Speaker 3: to wind down and like.
- 39:59Speaker 5: Right, had those Those were some of the second guesses
- 40:01Speaker 5: I guess late in his career, but there was like
- 40:03Speaker 5: a four or five year period where they just avoided
- 40:06Speaker 5: the ignored it because why no one's gonna come in
- 40:09Speaker 5: here and play.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and Keane were interesting, you know, it's boy, they
- 40:15Speaker 2: never they but I would say, you know, investing a
- 40:21Speaker 2: third round.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Pick, yeah, you expect it. I mean it's the third
- 40:24Speaker 3: round picks four years ago now, something.
- 40:27Speaker 4: You expect to have at least one of those guys
- 40:30Speaker 4: on your roster four years later, like could have been
- 40:34Speaker 4: on the roster. No, but I mean as a player. Yeah,
- 40:37Speaker 4: he's on a roster now, but he's not doing anything
- 40:39Speaker 4: for Cincinnati either.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Right, I mean Keen was always hurt, but I mean
- 40:42Speaker 3: just ASKI was another one of those guys. Never saw
- 40:45Speaker 3: him doing He's Ronnie Perkins, you know, like I mean,
- 40:47Speaker 3: I know he played a few games, but I never
- 40:49Speaker 3: saw him do anything in practice.
- 40:51Speaker 4: One of the rare guys that I did a draft
- 40:52Speaker 4: profile on that I got the impression that I got
- 40:57Speaker 4: sort of a lukewarm yeah, like from from his college coaches,
- 41:02Speaker 4: and you know, they they liked him a lot, They
- 41:06Speaker 4: thought he had potential. It was a question of whether
- 41:09Speaker 4: or not it would it would fully click in, and
- 41:12Speaker 4: it was like some red flags there.
- 41:14Speaker 5: So the Patriots drafted Gronk and Hernandez obviously in twenty ten.
- 41:18Speaker 5: They drafted Lee Smith in twenty eleven.
- 41:20Speaker 3: He's actually an NFL he's like a blocker.
- 41:22Speaker 5: Yeah, and then they they drafted aj Derby in twenty fifteen.
- 41:27Speaker 3: He played, he played for Denver.
- 41:28Speaker 5: Yeah, and then they didn't draft another tight end until Ossiassi. Oh,
- 41:32Speaker 5: Ryan is in the seventh.
- 41:33Speaker 3: Round, So we're talking, we're talking somewhere streaked.
- 41:37Speaker 5: We're talking about guys that you know, sixth round picks,
- 41:39Speaker 5: seventh round picks we're not talking about.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why he only brought up Keenan as right.
- 41:43Speaker 5: So from the twenty ten draft with Gronk and Hernandez
- 41:46Speaker 5: to the Keenan Aasiassi draft, he had a couple day
- 41:49Speaker 5: three flyers on guys, but nothing really called an investment.
- 41:53Speaker 3: But those two picks were almost like you talk about
- 41:55Speaker 3: cold strange where you're like, we got no tight ends,
- 41:57Speaker 3: like Kronk retired, what are we going to do now?
- 41:59Speaker 5: And I mean that was a bad tightend class to
- 42:02Speaker 5: begin with. I think like Adam Troutman might be the
- 42:04Speaker 5: best tight end to come out of that class and
- 42:06Speaker 5: he's not anything.
- 42:08Speaker 3: So keen in the third round. That was a shocker.
- 42:10Speaker 3: I think everybody was on him as like seventh round
- 42:13Speaker 3: special teams guy.
- 42:14Speaker 4: And that impresses me like that, I can't do that,
- 42:18Speaker 4: Like I can't. I remember all the names. Yeah, you
- 42:20Speaker 4: tell me all the names that we spent way too
- 42:23Speaker 4: many hours talking about on stupid draft review podcasts. I
- 42:29Speaker 4: can tell you all the names. And as soon as
- 42:30Speaker 4: you said trout Man like, but if you asked me
- 42:32Speaker 4: to say what year was he draft?
- 42:34Speaker 5: Oh god, no chance that was the class.
- 42:39Speaker 3: No way.
- 42:39Speaker 5: Harrison Bryant was the tight end of the year, the
- 42:42Speaker 5: Nay Award winner that year, and was up there as
- 42:46Speaker 5: a prospect like those were the couple guys uh desired
- 42:49Speaker 5: the Gora with the Packers, so that those were like
- 42:53Speaker 5: a handful of the guys that were up near the.
- 42:55Speaker 4: Top of the sport. But they remember that class.
- 42:58Speaker 5: When you study those classes as much as I do
- 43:01Speaker 5: and waste as much of your life watching them, that's
- 43:04Speaker 5: what happens.
- 43:04Speaker 3: But yeah, they.
- 43:06Speaker 5: That class was not a good class, which is what
- 43:09Speaker 5: made it so surprising that they took two of them,
- 43:11Speaker 5: Like they took two tight ends back what they've tended.
- 43:13Speaker 4: You know, someone was being critical of us because we're
- 43:17Speaker 4: you know, not talking about all the great draft picks
- 43:19Speaker 4: they've had, and Fred you can recall me being very
- 43:23Speaker 4: defensive of Bill's drafting, very very very good drafter. I
- 43:26Speaker 4: think I got made fun of for saying, but that's
- 43:30Speaker 4: that's some of the things that they've done, like in
- 43:32Speaker 4: this like fourteen, fifteen, sixteen through like you know, eighteen,
- 43:37Speaker 4: nineteen twenty, some of these like lighter drafts, they've done
- 43:41Speaker 4: that three or four times where they've gone after a
- 43:44Speaker 4: position in a year that was down for that position,
- 43:48Speaker 4: and it's almost like they do it intentionally because well,
- 43:52Speaker 4: everybody loves the wide receivers in this class. So we're
- 43:55Speaker 4: not going to get the eighth wide receiver, even though
- 43:57Speaker 4: he's better than the best wide receiver the following year.
- 44:00Speaker 4: We're gonna wait for the year when that that position
- 44:03Speaker 4: is down. And I don't think it's worked. And that
- 44:04Speaker 4: tight end thing is an example of it.
- 44:06Speaker 5: Yeah, so I forgot about co Comett. Cole Commet's probably
- 44:09Speaker 5: the best out of that group, and cole Comet has
- 44:13Speaker 5: fifty catches. He's a pretty good player in his career
- 44:15Speaker 5: but he's a good blocker. The only time that I
- 44:17Speaker 5: can remember them doing what you're talking about and working
- 44:20Speaker 5: as Christian Barmore. But I don't know if Barmore has worked.
- 44:24Speaker 5: But he's clearly good, you know, an NFL player that

- 54:05Speaker 20: So I love college football. He has no interest in
- 54:07Speaker 20: it until February, but it's so much. This weekend especially
- 54:10Speaker 20: is gonna be great. You know, Alabama, Tennessee. There's probably
- 54:13Speaker 20: at least one future Patriot playing in that game, so
- 54:16Speaker 20: that would probably be.
- 54:17Speaker 4: It okay, because he's patting himself on the back so much.
- 54:20Speaker 5: I'm gonna just say this, the reason why I don't
- 54:23Speaker 5: get into college football in the fall is because I
- 54:26Speaker 5: have what's called a girlfriend.
- 54:27Speaker 2: And I had a shot fireball shot Saturday.
- 54:34Speaker 5: I spend it with Jess.
- 54:36Speaker 15: So there you go.
- 54:38Speaker 20: I'm going to truly enjoy my Saturday this week. And
- 54:40Speaker 20: I thought you said we weren't doing. We weren't doing personally.
- 54:43Speaker 3: That's another great moment from.
- 54:47Speaker 2: All right back here and Patriots on filtered eight five
- 54:50Speaker 2: five Pats five hundred is the ace ticket hut line.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Paul is left.
- 54:54Speaker 3: It's gonna be a puddle up there watching his kid graduate.
- 54:56Speaker 3: I can't imagine, you say.
- 54:58Speaker 5: When we went to go pick him up at his office,
- 55:00Speaker 5: he looked like he might have been crying.
- 55:02Speaker 2: He says, he's not handling it well emotionally.
- 55:06Speaker 3: He's watching his little boy go to prom.
- 55:08Speaker 2: And I was like, finally, you know, get rid of him,
- 55:13Speaker 2: get him out of here.
- 55:14Speaker 6: Now.
- 55:14Speaker 2: I'm only kidding, but no, Paul.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Is uh, he's he's in it.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, let's get to some of these emails
- 55:21Speaker 2: at web radio at pages dot com. It's duced. It's
- 55:24Speaker 2: evidence myself. Matt's still here.
- 55:26Speaker 3: Thank goodness, thank god we would have a show.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Let's see. Dan writes in he says, I'm so glad
- 55:33Speaker 2: Max's girlfriend sacrificed her time and hard earned money to
- 55:36Speaker 2: take him to Taylor Swift concert. All jokes aside. I
- 55:39Speaker 2: think we all expect him to have a better year
- 55:41Speaker 2: than last year. It seems like Mac has generally been
- 55:44Speaker 2: dealt a bad hand throughout his tenure here, between lack
- 55:48Speaker 2: of potent playmakers in below average at best protection, the
- 55:52Speaker 2: best rise to the occasion despite the circumstances, and he
- 55:56Speaker 2: obviously hasn't done so yet. Just look at how well
- 55:59Speaker 2: Burrow has played despite poor protection. He actually has playmakers
- 56:03Speaker 2: around him, though there's reason to be hopeful with the
- 56:06Speaker 2: addition of Bill O'Brien, new playmakers and a more youthful team. Overall,
- 56:11Speaker 2: despite a difficult schedule, the Patriots will end up with
- 56:14Speaker 2: double digit wins and second in the division. Max should
- 56:18Speaker 2: have a leap, taking pressure off Remondree to carry the load.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Best case, someone else steps up to It's an exciting
- 56:25Speaker 2: time to be a Patriots fan remain equally as loyal
- 56:28Speaker 2: and hopeful and as critical when applicable.
- 56:32Speaker 5: Wow, an exciting time to be a Patriots fan. I
- 56:35Speaker 5: don't hear that a lot now these days. I'm not
- 56:36Speaker 5: gonna lie, were.
- 56:37Speaker 2: You not around the last twenty Not sure we can
- 56:42Speaker 2: for excitement, Yeah, I haven't.
- 56:44Speaker 5: You don't hear that a lot from this fan base
- 56:46Speaker 5: right now, that any but he is. Really some people
- 56:50Speaker 5: might be a little bit cautiously optimistic, but excited or
- 56:53Speaker 5: I think.
- 56:55Speaker 3: I think that's why I was frustrated that we didn't
- 56:56Speaker 3: get to go out there today, because I think that
- 56:58Speaker 3: there's always something to get excited about when you actually,
- 57:00Speaker 3: you know, just get to see them play a little bit.
- 57:02Speaker 3: I think we all know that we're watching OTAs and
- 57:05Speaker 3: that this you know, might have very little impact, but
- 57:07Speaker 3: even still just you know, to get some excitement brewing.
- 57:09Speaker 3: I just think, like, regardless of the observations that we're
- 57:12Speaker 3: going to tell you about football and who's playing, wear
- 57:14Speaker 3: and all that stuff, it's just you know, seeing it's
- 57:16Speaker 3: like not the first day of school, I don't know,
- 57:18Speaker 3: it's like the like the last goodbye before the long break.
- 57:20Speaker 5: I'm all for over hyping OTA practice oh yeah, all
- 57:24Speaker 5: for it.
- 57:24Speaker 2: I love appetizers. Yeah, well that's what you know. The
- 57:27Speaker 2: spring is, you know, an.
- 57:28Speaker 3: Appetize guys look a little bigger, a little leaner, a
- 57:31Speaker 3: little fit, little strong.
- 57:32Speaker 5: Like if we got out there and I keep on
- 57:34Speaker 5: thinking about Taekwon, Like if we get out there and
- 57:36Speaker 5: Taekwon's ten pounds of muscle heavier, then like all of
- 57:39Speaker 5: a sudden, you know, dude start to get a little
- 57:41Speaker 5: bit excited. And if then he goes out there and
- 57:43Speaker 5: he makes a play, now you get really excited and
- 57:45Speaker 5: all for it.
- 57:46Speaker 3: And you probably would just watch Christian Gonzalez jog out
- 57:49Speaker 3: to the field and right.
- 57:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he's just one of those guys that
- 57:53Speaker 5: he should shine in this type of thing because it's
- 57:55Speaker 5: just about athleticism, right, there's no contact, it's not it's
- 57:59Speaker 5: not real football yet. And he's a get off the
- 58:01Speaker 5: bust type of guy. And I was looking forward to
- 58:04Speaker 5: seeing him too, absolutely.
- 58:06Speaker 2: Rusty and rusty in Arlen says, really mourning the loss
- 58:09Speaker 2: of those OTAs. Was looking forward to reading about how
- 58:13Speaker 2: Malie Cunningham is tearing things up in shorts. But I
- 58:15Speaker 2: guess I'll have to wait before carving that bust for Canton.
- 58:19Speaker 2: That being said, I do think there are some interesting
- 58:21Speaker 2: things to watch for and OTAs, like what they do
- 58:24Speaker 2: with Cunningham, where Booty is on the depth chart, and
- 58:28Speaker 2: who is our left tackle? Got an early prediction for
- 58:31Speaker 2: any of those?
- 58:33Speaker 3: Sure, I think Cunningham will be fourth in line and
- 58:36Speaker 3: he'll be learning how to like hand the ball off
- 58:38Speaker 3: and do simple things like that. I don't think we'll
- 58:41Speaker 3: see a lot of him, but I think anything we
- 58:43Speaker 3: do see will just be kind of rudimentary. You know,
- 58:45Speaker 3: they're installing the basics. I mean, I'm sure he's been
- 58:48Speaker 3: learning a ton of things with the rookies that they've
- 58:50Speaker 3: been here for the last couple of weeks, and you know,
- 58:52Speaker 3: getting a foundation. Who the other one's left tack? I
- 58:54Speaker 3: think it's gonna be Trump Brown and Riley Reef. I
- 58:56Speaker 3: think James Ferrens will fill in it right guard for WNU,
- 58:59Speaker 3: which was arded that he was out, which I think
- 59:02Speaker 3: is just what they do they when you have a
- 59:04Speaker 3: hole in a camp like this, it's not about like
- 59:06Speaker 3: who's the best or who you think. It's about who
- 59:08Speaker 3: knows what they're doing, who can go out there and
- 59:10Speaker 3: establish the baseline for the guys that don't know what
- 59:13Speaker 3: they're doing. So James Ferns is a perfect guy at
- 59:15Speaker 3: right guard to step in for Michael. And when you
- 59:17Speaker 3: you know, as much as somebody might want to say,
- 59:18Speaker 3: oh cities out, is you know getting a chance right
- 59:20Speaker 3: at you know, I don't think that that's something that's
- 59:22Speaker 3: gonna happen, but I will say that you know, with
- 59:24Speaker 3: him when you we saw him and even in that ota,
- 59:27Speaker 3: like it seems like he's in there a little bit,
- 59:28Speaker 3: He's in the mix, like you didn't know what was
- 59:30Speaker 3: going on, but you could tell that he was kind
- 59:32Speaker 3: of picking things up and that they liked him.
- 59:34Speaker 2: Speaking of a when you Jack and and Arba wants
- 59:36Speaker 2: to know, is there a question whether Michael when you
- 59:38Speaker 2: will recover fully from his offseason ankle injury.
- 59:42Speaker 3: No, No, it sounded like you'd be okay.
- 59:44Speaker 4: I mean I do think.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I mean I'd floated. I if some of these rookies
- 59:47Speaker 3: look really good, could you know, could he be moved
- 59:49Speaker 3: where everybody wants to talk about us going and signing
- 59:53Speaker 3: a wide receiver going into you know, his last year
- 59:55Speaker 3: his deal, but you know, could they be on the
- 59:57Speaker 3: other end of that, could they say we got a
- 59:59Speaker 3: bunch of guards we know, and you could, you know,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: maybe get us something back that we need, even if
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: it's a you know, a Day two draft pick. That
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: might be a little bit crazy, but even still I think.
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: I mean, they've done it before. I think that the
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: biggest yearhead trade in terms of rookie contract expired, like
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: Chandler Jones, right, you know, trading him into year four.
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: Jamie Collins was already in season, but he was on
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: year four of the rookie deal and got dealt. So
- 1:00:24Speaker 5: it's not it's not totally out of the realm for
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: them to do something.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Like he's wondering because of the ankle injury to the
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Patriots know something. That's why they drafted so many interior guys.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think so.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: I don't think so, but I do. It still strikes
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: me strange that they drafted three guys that, to me
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: are interior guys.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Tim in New Hampshire, I have an autographed Tom Brady
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: football that I got twenty years ago. It's an official
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: ball with the logo super Bowl thirty six and thirty eight.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Do you have any idea how much it's worth? And
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: now is the best time to sell well. The fact
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: that he's getting involved with Mark Davis drive down the
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: value of Tom Brady merch.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: I would sit on that sucker. But I'm not an
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: expert on these kind of things because I think I
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: have a Tom Brady sign ball too. But I think
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: you need to get it like authenticated, and you need
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: to make sure that that everybody is, you know, confirmed
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: that it's real.
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: It's like in Pond Stars when they bring in the
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: autograph expert to make sure that it's it's really the
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: I don't know. I wouldn't get rid of it.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: No, it's not going to go down to value.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: I think it's also just like I don't know, unless
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: someday it's like thousands of dollars, which I don't think
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: it ever really will be, because there's probably a lot
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: of Tom Brady autographed stuff out there. I don't know.
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: I think it's more valuable to just have.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: It I'm displaying. I'm still sitting on three or four
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: Barry Sanders rookie cards from my football card collecting days,
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: as well as Dean Sanders. I got a couple d
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: On Sanders score rookie cards. Every now and then, I'll look,
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: I gotta actually go get up here. We got a
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: card place up here. I'd love to just take them
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: in and be like, we got to get those graded. Money,
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: get them graded. Yeah, I got a few or something
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: if you get them bread.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: My uncle gave me his collection of basketball cards when
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: I was growing up, and there's a few. It's mostly
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: from like the eighties and nineties, and there's a few
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: good ones in there, a few, you know, Michael Jordan's
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: and birds and things.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Like that, so you never know he's gonna be good.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Matt and Boston. I was looking at some Vegas odds
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: for the upcoming season. Max season total for passing yards
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: is three two hundred and seventy five and a hay.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: That's an average of one hundred and ninety three yards
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: for seventeen games. Personally, I think that's disrespectful. Or are
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: they assuming he won't play all seventeen games? What do
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: you think of this line?
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: I mean, I can kind of.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: I'm not a big good Zilinger, but I have been
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: dabbling and looking back at last season a little bit.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: I've watched just some recaps because I'm out, Like Paul,
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: I don't have the the game book installed into my
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: prefrontal cortex or whatever it's called. But I mean, I
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: would they. I think he threw for over three hundred
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: yards in like two or three games last year. I
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: mean it was close. They were under three hundred yards
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: mostly so I I mean, I think that number is
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: probably about where it should be last year.
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Adrian from Delaware says, what are your opinions when fans
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: of a sports team refer to said team as we
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: or us? Like why do we sign this player? The
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: offense let us down? Blah blah blah. I find the
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: wording or phrasing from sports fans irritating.
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: I know.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: I mean, if you're a fan of the team, you
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: feel like you're part of the team. That's the whole idea.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: I think people journalists get criticized, like if you're a
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: beat writer for the Patriots, they get criticized when they
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: say us or we are you know. But I think fans,
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: you're supposed to say us. That's what you want. You're
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: you should be invested in your team.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: I think so too. I wrote a whole blog post
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: back when I was like with Bleacher Report, I think
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: like just saying I think it's okay, Like if you're
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: a fan of the team and you feel like you
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: live and die with that team, you're part of that
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: team in terms of the results. Like I don't, I
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: don't don't really have a problem. I know in some
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: context that can probably be annoying, you know, where somebody
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: sounds like they're the one doing the playing and all
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: that kind of stuff. But I generally don't have a
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: problem with it. I think if you're a fan and
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: you love the team and you're invested in everything they do,
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: when you feel the wins and losses thing, you're part
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: of the team. Yeah.
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: I would never say we or us about the Patriots
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: because I covered the paper.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: It's weird because we worked like here somewhere, like we
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: as the people that work.
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: For But I wouldn't refer to it as like we
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: were we did this, or we're on the field or
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: in free agency or something. But like with the Celtics,
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: it's it's we.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: I mean, it's we.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: Maybe I don't care about any of that.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: That's why the Patriots and it's like.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: We're gonna lose, Yeah, we're gonna lose. Mitch in Aubany,
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: I think the whole thing, the whole losing two OTAs
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: because of a meeting is absolutely ridiculous. It seems like
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: the punishment is a bit severe. But my favorite thing
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: to come out of this is people saying that, you know,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: the Patriots are taking the season seriously when they're already cheating.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: I don't believe they cheated all, but it is funny. Second,
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: just wanted to check on the T shirt and if
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: I need to send in my address again. So another
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: person hasn't got his T shirt. Matt, what's going on?
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: Fault?
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: Because I thought I send them all out.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Mitch and all, but he check it out. So he
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: still hasn't got his T shirt. Maybe the post office,
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: maybe they're intercepting him because all that it could help.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: We have a big mailman following.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: Have we ever thought about selling merch for.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: We could at some point?
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, just asked why we don't sell ye, sell merch?
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: We could.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: I think training camp be a good opportunity to you know,
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: we'll keep talking about T shirt gun you know.
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: Yeah, some some T shirts.
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: Some if we could launch a T shirt off of
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: the side of the stadium to a fan down below.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: I think that would be a fun stunt.
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: Well here here you hear the T shirt guy. If
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: we had T shirts, you know some of.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: It, I could whip one up and have e for sale.
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: About twenty of some of our best zingers too, you know,
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: it can be be on a T shirt.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: We'd hit some lay in the back of the head,
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: she'd fall forward and you know, break her neck and we'd.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: Get to and then she don Chile Stadium. I well,
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: I think that there should be a Patriots Unfiltered shirt.
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: I was, I was visioning the design for it. Of shoot,
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: what do you call it? When it's eight three? What
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: do you call Like outside of stores and bars, they
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: have the facade, No, the signs that are all like
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: one thing, uh, you know, one electric god on side,
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: so kind of a Neon sign, you know, Patriots Unfiltered
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: and then maybe like an on air sign and then
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: underneath the World's original podcast you know.
- 1:06:27Speaker 8: Have that.
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: It's like the you're already coming up with ideas.
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: That's my idea for that for the Patriots.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: I mean, look like at like barstool there there. Merch
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: is a big part of their business.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: I mean it's like a requirement for them. Yeah, you
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: got to like come up with T shirts and I
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: don't know, how they haven't gotten.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: Well, you know how like some stores have since Yeah,
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: they have that we could have like since you know,
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: nineteen ninety nine, World's.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: Original podcast since nineteen ninety nine. You know, I like it.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Let's get back to the Ace ticket hut line. We'll
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: go to Paul and Vancouver. What's up, Paul?
- 1:06:58Speaker 21: Hey, Brad?
- 1:06:58Speaker 9: How's it going?
- 1:07:00Speaker 21: A chance to call in there quickly?
- 1:07:05Speaker 9: Bred?
- 1:07:06Speaker 21: Is the when you say about Bill, don't listen to
- 1:07:09Speaker 21: what he says, but what he does? Is that apply
- 1:07:10Speaker 21: to your show as well?
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: I hesitate to answer, but what do you do? What
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: do we do?
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: No? What you did?
- 1:07:20Speaker 9: Fred?
- 1:07:20Speaker 8: Was that this?
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: Uh?
- 1:07:22Speaker 21: You brought Andy Hart back there for little segments? So
- 1:07:25Speaker 21: is that a Was that indication to the new talent
- 1:07:28Speaker 21: to erase their game?
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: Was that?
- 1:07:29Speaker 18: What?
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: No, it's just convenience. He happened to be in the
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: building doing something in the.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Studio next Jo Fire, trying to motivate.
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: Ba.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: It always makes for good content to get him in.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: You know, sure, I hope he's back this year.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: What are you doing?
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: Well?
- 1:07:48Speaker 21: Just give us a war took a warning so we
- 1:07:50Speaker 21: can adjust our volume control.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: Before Well, he always comes in like hot, you know,
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: and then like after twenty minutes, he loses his momentum
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: shot at me.
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: It's like a little kid.
- 1:08:01Speaker 21: All right, Well, Brett, since I haven't had a chance,
- 1:08:03Speaker 21: I don't know when will have another one. But the
- 1:08:06Speaker 21: last few shows just been talking about fans being hopeful. Okay,
- 1:08:10Speaker 21: me right, I've been a fan since the Plunket days,
- 1:08:14Speaker 21: all right, So I've suffered through two and fourteen one
- 1:08:17Speaker 21: and fifteen seasons, all right, thinking my team is going
- 1:08:20Speaker 21: to win every single week. All right. I lost money
- 1:08:23Speaker 21: in the freaking eighty five Super Bowl. But let's be
- 1:08:27Speaker 21: realistic about where we are. We are stuck in the
- 1:08:31Speaker 21: messy middle. Okay, this post Brady period, let's call it
- 1:08:36Speaker 21: has been bought from the start, all right, because of
- 1:08:40Speaker 21: something we all know. Paul Ferla was, you know, wrong
- 1:08:43Speaker 21: so many times in a weekly basis. But the one
- 1:08:45Speaker 21: thing we talking about was that we has the oldest
- 1:08:50Speaker 21: roster at that time. We moved on for Beatty Brady. Now,
- 1:08:54Speaker 21: I'm not going to eat still up for moving on
- 1:08:56Speaker 21: from a forty year old quarterback. But with the oldest raw, no,
- 1:09:00Speaker 21: we have to get younger. And I don't even see
- 1:09:03Speaker 21: that right now. And if you're talking about hole. Well,
- 1:09:06Speaker 21: let's for this season. Let's break down where we are.
- 1:09:11Speaker 21: Let's go to the schedule night. Now, I think we
- 1:09:14Speaker 21: need to be a ten win team to get in
- 1:09:16Speaker 21: the playoffs. Look at our look at the schedule, Eagles
- 1:09:20Speaker 21: fills twice, Chiefs zero and four. Let's split with the
- 1:09:24Speaker 21: Jets and Dolphins two and two. Now we're two and six. Okay,
- 1:09:28Speaker 21: be a bit more optimistic with the mb three to
- 1:09:31Speaker 21: one again, the Cowboys, Giants, Steelers, Chargers. That's optimistic. Then
- 1:09:36Speaker 21: we got to win out against the Saints, the Broncos,
- 1:09:40Speaker 21: the Raiders, pull to the Commanders to get to ten.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: Yeah. No, we're obviously going to have to win a
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: few games that were underdogs.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: That's the only way, you know, because we are going
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: to be underdogs in a lot of games. So you're
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: gonna have to turn that around.
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: You don't think anybody.
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: Has to do this?
- 1:09:58Speaker 21: Yeah, if we look at this, like I came up
- 1:10:01Speaker 21: with a very simple way of looking at teams about
- 1:10:04Speaker 21: if they improved from year to year. Right, if we
- 1:10:07Speaker 21: take your twenty two starters and like say six other
- 1:10:10Speaker 21: players that are important, like you know, your third wide receiver,
- 1:10:13Speaker 21: swing tackle, whatever you want to make those six right,
- 1:10:16Speaker 21: and if you think about a starter, get the second contract.
- 1:10:19Speaker 21: He's in the league for seven years. So basically twenty
- 1:10:23Speaker 21: two plus six is twenty eight seven years divided by four.
- 1:10:25Speaker 21: You're replacing four players every year, just replacing them, not
- 1:10:29Speaker 21: really getting much better. And we had chained to tackle
- 1:10:32Speaker 21: wide receivers, safety. Now you can throw in whatever, second
- 1:10:36Speaker 21: running back, second tight end.
- 1:10:38Speaker 9: The guys were brought in.
- 1:10:40Speaker 21: I think that's a watch. We're not getting any better
- 1:10:43Speaker 21: from lobsters. So well, I don't know, you give me
- 1:10:48Speaker 21: any kind of reason to think.
- 1:10:49Speaker 22: That Bill is actually going to turn this roster over
- 1:10:52Speaker 22: and turn it all with Well, first of all, do
- 1:10:54Speaker 22: you have a losing when you have a losing team,
- 1:10:57Speaker 22: the only team the FANCI support is a young, up
- 1:11:00Speaker 22: and coming team.
- 1:11:00Speaker 21: They're gonna lose. They're gonna lose the four here and
- 1:11:03Speaker 21: it's been three years. So where is the hope coming
- 1:11:05Speaker 21: from here?
- 1:11:06Speaker 16: Breton?
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: I think the hope comes from that Bill O'Brien is
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: gonna make this offense better than it was last year.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: That you know, the defense continued like the defense wasn't
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: bad last year, the defense continues to get better. Uh,
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: you know this guy Key on white Man. If he
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: comes in and he can help that defensive line, I
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: think I think you've got something going there. You've got
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: one of the best safety cornerbacks in the draft and
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: Christian Gonzales. You know, the defense I think can be
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: better than it was last year. And I think we
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: are all assuming that the offense is gonna be better
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: than it was last year just because of O'Brien and
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: you know, and if that means Mac is you know,
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: if that helps Mac in his third year, there's hope.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: I mean, basically, I'm saying that we could see something
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: this season that we that we haven't seen yet because of,
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: you know, just the improvement that Bill O'Brien brings. We
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: haven't seen an offense yet with a quarterback who knows
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: what he's doing. I mean, even in Match's rookie year,
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: he wasn't that great. He was good for a rookie,
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: but he faded down the line for him to be
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: better in his third year, he's going to be much
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: better than he was his rookie year. We're not hoping
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: that he goes back to that, but he can be
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: I think he can. I think there's hope. I think
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: that you know, I think there's pieces on this offense
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: that haven't played to their potential, and the hope is
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: that they do this year. It could be an utter disaster.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: It could be, but the hope is that the players
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: they have on offense play to the potential we thought
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: that they had when we signed them.
- 1:12:51Speaker 21: All right, but Fred, aren't we like looking at look
- 1:12:54Speaker 21: at the Bills Bills games. He took their foot off
- 1:12:58Speaker 21: the accelerator at the end of the game. So you're
- 1:13:01Speaker 21: telling me that the hole basically is, instead of losing
- 1:13:04Speaker 21: thirty five to Pad, we're gonna lose like forty two eight.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: They took their foot off the accelerated because they weren't
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: scared of us scoring. They weren't scared of us scoring.
- 1:13:14Speaker 21: We're going to get better on offense. Well, it's not
- 1:13:16Speaker 21: score ten points, we'll score twenty eight points, but we're
- 1:13:18Speaker 21: still gonna lose.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: But what if you what if you combine that with
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: the defense getting even better, you know, and what if.
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: His different if Yeah, what if.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Gonzales is really good and what if the pass rush
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: is that much better? They can contain a mobile quarterback,
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: you know, because they have a little bit more speed
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: on defense and and all of a sudden like it's
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: a game. It's a game, you know, Like like you know.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: They need you guys to stop. They need guys to stop.
- 1:13:45Speaker 21: Were Brad, you're telling me we're putting everything on success
- 1:13:51Speaker 21: this year on rookie We have not seen it.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: So that's where the whole And also, like I'm saying
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: that Christian Barmore has a better year than he had
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: last year. You know, guys that they've already had, you know,
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: step up and play better.
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: They have to. That's I mean, that's the point. Like
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: you look, you're right. If everybody guy on the roster
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: plays exactly like they did last year or worse, they're
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: gonna be bad. They're gonna be worse. But you hope
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: that with better coaching. And clearly this is what the
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: coaches think, that a better, actual competent, experienced offensive coordinator
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: is going to put guys in position.
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: I mean, look at last year.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: It was a mess. They couldn't get plays off. They
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: were not coordinated in any sense of the word. So
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: I know we're putting a lot of eggs in this basket,
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: but I do think it's a significant one based on
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: how bad things work.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: You know, and I hear what you're saying. But you know,
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Bill Parcells would always say that each side of the
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: ball gives the other side hope. So if you're the
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: defense last year.
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: But it is any much hope? Did you have any
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: is anybody selling Paul or anybody else on them being
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: a super Bowl team? Like, I don't understand where all that, right,
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: the like feistiness comes from on the call.
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: That they didn't do enough that they wanted he wanted
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: more Ei.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: I mean, he's looking at the schedule, which is fair,
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: and saying we're not as good as a lot of
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: these teams in the schedule. Where are the wins going
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: to come from?
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: And none of us can tell me he's wrong. I mean,
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: you know that's my point.
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: No one's saying that that that no one's picking in
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: the finish fourteen and three.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: I choose, I choose not to expect them to all
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: of a sudden, right I have. I have hope that
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: these guys improve, you.
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Know, And it's but it's so hard to and why else.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: What's his put to me? What's the point of going
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: into the season without hope?
- 1:15:26Speaker 18: Right?
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: Like, and and it's so easy to just say, well,
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: We're gonna lose the Kansas City. We're gonna lose the
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: Buffalo twice. Like you don't know, Like I mean, IM
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: sure if you want to be like take the negative
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: view of it, of course, But what you know, you
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: get to the December and all of a sudden, oh,
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: you know, quarterback who was a superstar isn't playing because
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: he's hurt. Like I mean, things just change. You want
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: to get yourself so worked up that they're going to
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: be just as bad.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: And I've heard people and not people from New England
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: national people saying, you know, Buffalo's window could be closing,
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: you know. And I've heard that well, and it's not
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: New England fans saying that it's it's National pundits.
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: I just look at you know, we were talking about
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: this earlier, Mike, all the games last year. The optimism
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: that I have with the team, I'm not overly optimistic,
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: but the optimism that I have is that there were
- 1:16:09Speaker 5: so many games last year that were winnable. They were
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: we were talking about the Raiders game, the Vikings game,
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: the Bengals game, like just go on down the line
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: of these games where not only did they just lose
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: close games they lost them in epic fashion in some cases, so.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: They beat themselves.
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: If you all of a sudden can turn some of
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: those games, not all of them, You're not gonna go
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: completely perfect from going what you were last year to that.
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: But if you can win fifty percent of the games
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: that you lost that it were coin flips last year,
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: then all of a sudden, it's a different team. Which
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: and I think that's where you have to be optimistic,
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: is that as bad as certain things were about that
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: team last year, they were a play away from beating
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: the Bengals. They were a play away from beating the Raiders.
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: They were a play away from beating Minnesota. I mean,
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: Fred and I were air in Minnesota. Fred, if they
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: if Hunter Henry scores a touchdown there, who the heck knows,
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: Like that's the whole season might have changed, honestly, because
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: that was.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: He actually did score, that's right, they just didn't rule it.
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: That way, right, So if all of these things, that's
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: what you have to hold your hat on. I think
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: if you're a Patriot fan and you want to be optimistic,
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: is that those were really unorthodox type of losses that
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: if you can start flipping some of these close games
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: and winning a few of those late, then maybe you
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: have a different football team that's you know, and.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: Now on paper, I would you know, you can make
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: the argument that this season schedule's tougher than last season's schedule,
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: and that could be true, but maybe where the Patriots
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: are just a little bit better, you know, and then
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: like Evan says, you don't make the same mistakes that
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: you did last year, and all of a sudden, you know,
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: instead of eight wins, you got ten wins.
- 1:17:52Speaker 8: You know.
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: I mean, I think my hope is in a precarious
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: spot right now. And I mean it's just to Evan's
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: point what we were talking about upstairs was and kind
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: of just I went back, like I said, I looked
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: at some of the games. It was every time the
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: game was there for the taking, they crapped their pants,
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: you know, and like and as Evan said, like in
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: epic fashion, Like there were so many times in those
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: games where it's like here's like the Ravens game, there
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: it is for the taking. Nelson Ageloor fumbles it. I mean,
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: you ran through the other games. There's just so many
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: games like that, and of course they're not all gonna
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: go the other way. But in some ways, I feel
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: like that's the only real big difference between twenty twenty
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: two and twenty twenty one was like in twenty twenty one,
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: they made some of those plays in some of those games,
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: you know, right.
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: So I just I go back to the Bengals game.
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: You were down I think twenty to nothing at halftime, right,
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: you got to come all the way back to make
- 1:18:35Speaker 5: it a game late, and then probably your best player
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: on offense fumbles on the ten yard line. I use
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: the game like well, in the feeling in the stadium
- 1:18:44Speaker 5: in that moment when they were driving was maybe some tepoism,
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: just because we've seen them kind of crap down their
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: leg before. In this ere u you had the momentum, Yeah,
- 1:18:54Speaker 5: but it really I mean, Marcus Jones has a pick six.
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: It was it was really one of those games where
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: it felt like all of a sudden, everything was going
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: to Patriot Patriot's way until it didn't. So if Madre
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: doesn't fumble at the ten yard line and you go
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: in and score, then it's just you never.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: Know, right, And it's just that's where I'm living though,
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: because I look at a team and when you when
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: I think about a team that when you have the
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: opportunity to win the game, you can't do it. And
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: not only can you not do it, you're actually like
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: hurting yourself. Like it wasn't even like they just couldn't
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: do it, they fell short. It was like no, they
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: actually like had major brain farts that cost them the game.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: And so I guess my question of where my hope
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: is right now is, you know, Ken Bill O'Brien, wipe
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: that all away and get this as a team that
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: has that laser focus that when the game is on
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: the line and therefore the taking that they're able to
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: play at their absolute peak level. And yeah, I don't
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: know that they can get Like I have real concerns
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: that that energy isn't easily gotten back just by swapping
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: out the offensive coordinator and all right, now we understand
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: what the plan is on offense, Now we can get
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: behind this playbook that you're trying to run. That's where
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: I'm like a little precarious. We got to get out there.
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: And because that's often times I think a lot of
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: people make a lot out of myself, included roster talent, right,
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: and just do you have a better team on paper
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: than the team that you're going against. But unless you're
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: a really really bad team, like a team that's gonna
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: win two or three games, a lot of the times,
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: what separates the good teams from the teams that are
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: eight and nine are just these little things in the margins.
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: It's close games, it's finishing late. It's you know, stopping
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: Derek Carr going down the field instead of giving up
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: a touchdown drive and then Jacoby Myers never happens, right,
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: it's Ramandra Stevenson not fumbling. It's these little things like
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: that that often separate from you going ten and seven
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: in an eight.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: To nine penalties destroying drives. Yeah, you know, spiin Fresno,
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: says Hope, Hope. There's only so much Billy Oh can
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: spackle over. Contrary to the earlier email about this being
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: the most exciting time to be a Patriots fan, I
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: find this a pretty rough time. The offense seems like
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: a house of cards. Mac is a non versatile pocket
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: passers slow and needs everything perfect. The old line has
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: a new coach, unproven players with them. When you coming
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: off an ankle surgery, and as Mike might say, there's
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: the ferens of it all and Joe Judge is still
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: lurking in the background waiting to ruin something. Too many
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: things could easily go wrong. Yeah, I mean, I mean,
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: that's one way of looking at it, and then.
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: You can surprise speed.
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: But there's also the hey, Christian Barmoer is going to
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: have a bounce back here and have that breakout here
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: that we thought he was going to have, like Fred said,
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: and key On White is going to be a great
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: compliment to him. And you know, even just watching some
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: of the games from last year, the lack of just
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: I mean, Christian Gonzalez like he already to me, just
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: makes your secondary better, like just by how he moves
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: just theilit and he gives you and.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: Then you know, assuming everyone's healthy, people can play in
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: the right positions. You know, it's a domino effect. He's
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: your outside guy there, you know, and so he allows
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: people to start playing where they should play.
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: They there's a lot of because I think we work
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: for the team, let's be honest. So I think a
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: lot of people think, oh, your optimism is Pom Pom
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: waving or whatever. But there's a lot of national people,
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: like Fred was saying about the bills that look at
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: this Patriots defense and like, this was already a top
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: five defense statistically last year, and I like some of
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: the pieces that they brought in. You know, Mina Chimes
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: was tweeting about it yesterday, Like, you guys realize that
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: the Patriots defense last year was pretty much top five
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: in every efficiency metric as it is. And now they
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: bring into Christian Gonzales, and they bring in Keon White
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: and maybe Marty Map who contributes this year, maybe he doesn't.
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: But the point being is is that that was already
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: a pretty good defense on paper already, and now they
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: bring in these rookies. And I get that the rookies
- 1:22:43Speaker 5: haven't played at all, but it's the rookies are icing
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: on the cake, their cherries on top. The defense was
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: already pretty solid even without them.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: So like I expect that key On White will be
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: better than Daniel quality as right, like second interior pass
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: rush kind of guy.
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: You.
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: So, I mean, I don't think it's crazy to think
- 1:22:59Speaker 3: that they and improve. I just think the defense's problem
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: was the same thing that I just talked about. When
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: they had a chance to close the game out, When
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: they have a chance to win it, they didn't do it.
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: So it's kind of that recurring theme for this whole team,
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: and it's not an easy fix of you know, oh,
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: we just got to get all new players, like you
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: just can't do it like that. But I totally get
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: the caller people calling in saying on paper, personnel wise,
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: it doesn't look like they did enough, and I totally
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: understand that. I just think you have to respect Bill
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: O'Brien and at least give it a chance to see
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: what it looks like, because we got out there in
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: the spring last year and you could tell early on
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: that and I didn't want to believe it, like I'm like,
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: everyone's making a big deal out of this, let's just
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: wait and see. But it was true. It was true.
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: Those struggles were evident from day.
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: One, faster from day one.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: John Rice in I'm surprised Evan believes the Patriots will
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: go eight to nine because he thinks the Patriots will
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: have an elite defense along with a solid offense. My
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: personal opinions the Patriots defense will be top five along
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: with a top fifteen to top twelve offense. I believe
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: the Patriots will win ten games. Those wins will come
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: in weeks two, three, five, six thirteen, fourteen, sixteen, and eighteen.
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: Got it.
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: I don't know if I think the offense is gonna
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: be good yet. I think the offense will be more competent,
- 1:24:12Speaker 5: which I think right, which I think helps you from
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: just a baseline standpoint of hopefully all the things we
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: just rattled off don't happen. So maybe you win some
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: of those closer games. Maybe you when you need that
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: drive late in the game, maybe it's well better orchestrated
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: by Bill O'Brien and you've practiced that situation a little
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: bit more, and yeah, and you have a little bit
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: better idea of it. But I think they're gonna be
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: really good on defense. I'm not ready to say a
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: leade because everybody gets triggered.
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: By the word elitie.
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: Oh right, so I'm not gonna say the word elite.
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: I think they're gonna be a really good defense. I
- 1:24:48Speaker 5: think that they will be a competent offense. And I
- 1:24:50Speaker 5: think it comes down to Mac Jones. If Matt Jones
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: takes a leap and Mac Jones is goes from being
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: an average to below average to a good quarterback in
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: the NFL, then yeah, they they could win ten games.
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: That was another thing watching some of these games, just
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: going back, it was like there was just a smattering
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: of play calls where you're like, what was that? Ye,
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: like offensive play calls where I've never seen anything like
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: that that they were just trying something stupid that like
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: totally what was the one I'm forgetting now? I might
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: have been a two point conversion against Baltimore, I think
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: where Mac had tried to like like Remandre tried to
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: like run it in and they tried to do something
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: sneaky with Remandre then he like then Mac got it
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: and Mac was trying to run it. I mean, just
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: there are a lot of that stuff. It just I
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: don't think you'll see it this year.
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: We talked about it there At the time, it felt
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: like they were just randomly picking plays out.
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: Of a hat, like now we're just going to bring
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: them together.
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: Now, we're just gonna do this, and now we're gonna
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: do that now, and there's no sequencing. There was no like, oh,
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: we did this earlier, so we're gonna compliment this piece
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: of it by doing that. There was there was none
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: of that. So that's what you hope you get back.
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: That's like what and then I mean I give Josh
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: compliment that just I mean, Bill O'Brien is cunning, like
- 1:25:55Speaker 3: he sees what he wants to do. He can set
- 1:25:58Speaker 3: things up, he can put you in unwinnable positions, and
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: I just I do wonder about I mean, Bill Belichick
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: obviously you knows football offense, and you know, just what
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: was he seeing last year? Like what was you know,
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: like how frustrating was it for him? Because I imagine
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: like the play calls to him probably seemed okay, right, Like,
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: I mean, they're not calling plays that he doesn't believe in,
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: But was there enough like you're to your point of
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: that setting things up? And just as guys in position,
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: it was just like now we're going to do this,
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: and now we're going to do this, and didn't feel
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: like it a purpose.
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: Like in a individually the play calls, the designs of
- 1:26:32Speaker 5: the plays might have been sound, but they had nothing
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: to do with each other. There was so there was
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: no system, and like that's that's how you build offenses.
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: Just having that in defense too, just having like a
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: baseline a foundation of this is what we do, and
- 1:26:45Speaker 5: everything branches off of what we do. And then there
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: was obviously issues within the details, you know, route running
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: and reads and timing and all that kind of stuff too.
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: But from a schematic perspective, it just felt like they
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: were trying to play the hit. It's from like every
- 1:27:01Speaker 5: single Oh, now we're gonna run outside zone. Now we're
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: gonna run gap, Now we're gonna run this play.
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: Now we're gonna run that identity as we can do
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: everything right, and that was that was never gonna work.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: Let's see. Georgia Maryland says, I personally think this Rogers
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: Jets thing is overblown. He's washed ZAPPI took him to
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: overtime last year with no offensive coordinator in Green Bay
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: and now he's in New York with Nathaniel as his
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: offensive coordinator. What am I missing here?
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: Well, I think you got better at the the you know,
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: at the end of the year when he started to,
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: you know, find a little bit of rhythm with that offense.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: But you know, this's just I just for me. You
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: very well might be right, And I think it just
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: goes back to Paul's point of they've got some good
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: talent there and Amon Rodgers. I don't think he needs
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: to play at an MVP level for them to you know,
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: potentially be better than the Patriots. I think he just
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: needs to be able to, you know, manage the team
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: and get the ball. But they've got a nice mix
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: of young guys and guys that he's played with, and
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: I think just the offensive line will be the question.
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: And if they can protect him and keep them.
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: Healthy, that would be one thing worried about, Like is
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: he going to be too reliant on like Alan Lazard,
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: you know, because like it's his Yeah, I don't think
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: it would be like if you don't throw to Garrett Wilson,
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: you're an idiot, right like that that's on you. But
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: but it's like some of like the other pieces that
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: they have there.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: And I don't know.
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: I just he just seems like such a head case
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: to me that I just it wouldn't surprise me if
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: he ends up phasing somebody out that that shouldn't be
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: phased out.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: I can only hope for the worst. William and Philim,
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: what's up? William?
- 1:28:33Speaker 8: Hey?
- 1:28:34Speaker 15: Fred?
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: How you doing all right?
- 1:28:37Speaker 23: I have I have so many things I want to say,
- 1:28:39Speaker 23: but I'm have to just piggy bank off with the
- 1:28:42Speaker 23: car is said, So that just knocked off what I
- 1:28:44Speaker 23: want to say. Basically, I'm with that car is staying
- 1:28:49Speaker 23: town too. I'm here, I'm looking at the roster too,
- 1:28:52Speaker 23: and i mean having in front of me, I'm going
- 1:28:54Speaker 23: at the roster, the schedule, and I'm just like everything,
- 1:28:58Speaker 23: everything y'all just said is everything seems Mike is based
- 1:29:01Speaker 23: off of if, well, what if Mike does this? What
- 1:29:05Speaker 23: if tykwarn Thorn does that? And what if Bill O'Brien
- 1:29:08Speaker 23: is just gssary and off And I'm sitting here like,
- 1:29:11Speaker 23: this is where we at now at this.
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: Point, Yes, Williams, that is where we're at. We're a
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: team that hasn't been that good. So the first year
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: that we are good, things are going to have to
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: happen that haven't happened yet. So yeah, that's where we are.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: That that's but that's the only way we're gonna get Like,
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: the guys are gonna have to get better. Like, yeah,
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: maybe we can draft of, you know, the next Tom Brady,
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: but that ain't happening like in the near future. So
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: in order to get good, Yeah, guys that they've signed
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: are gonna have to play to their potential. Young guys
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: that they drafted are gonna have to play well. And yeah,
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: that that's how they're gonna get better. It hasn't happened yet,
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: so you can't say, oh, we've seen it, so it
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: will happen. No, it's it's based on hope, you know.
- 1:30:01Speaker 23: It's just you know, it's I just don't want to
- 1:30:03Speaker 23: see this team take like four steps back again. I
- 1:30:06Speaker 23: don't want to see that.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: Absolutely no, you don't want that. But you're hoping that.
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: You know, when you draft Christian Gonzales and key On White,
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: that that's not stepping back. That's building for the future.
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: That's but it's home. You don't know Christian Gonzalez could
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: be a ballion. Yeah, but but you know that's that's it.
- 1:30:28Speaker 23: That's why I like you know what I mean, You know,
- 1:30:30Speaker 23: you keep me on a positive.
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: It's sports, you know, but I do I want William
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: How old?
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: Are you just curious? I'm gonna.
- 1:30:43Speaker 5: I'm gonna because I'm I'm wearing this myself too, like
- 1:30:46Speaker 5: my thirty and under, like my age. We haven't been
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: through a rebuilt, like we've never experienced this before, right,
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: Like I and I think a lot and even people
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: that are older than me, I think forget right, Like
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: we just had to our calling and said he's been
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: a fan since Jim Plunkett. Like, so you don't remember
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: what it was like to be a mediocre team like that,
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: you know, like that right, Like you know, I just
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: that that I think is interesting that I do feel
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: like guess what, like, yes, you are like everybody else,
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: like you do have to hit on your draft picks
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: and you do have to hope things end up being
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: good instead of bad, and like that's just the way
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: that life is when you don't have Tom Brady. Rightmore timeline, Yeah,
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: I mean we got one more things.
- 1:31:32Speaker 23: Yeah, yeah, just one more thing that said. Look, I
- 1:31:35Speaker 23: know I call it there sometimes and it is not
- 1:31:37Speaker 23: so much towards you, but it's towards really uh, Evan,
- 1:31:40Speaker 23: And I not be busting your chops sometimes. Just no,
- 1:31:44Speaker 23: you know you're okay with.
- 1:31:45Speaker 9: Me, you know what I mean.
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: They're a great car.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: But no, William, you've had some of the best calls.
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: Yeah, we love it.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: Great energy, so yell at us sometimes and that makes.
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: Me I appreciate people like, well you absolutely, thank you, William.
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: Uh one more call then I got to go to
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: the bathroom.
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: Tina is in Indiana, What guys, nothing much?
- 1:32:10Speaker 24: How are you guys?
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: Doing okay good.
- 1:32:13Speaker 24: Uh listen, I just wanted to have a shout out
- 1:32:15Speaker 24: for the one email you read on Tuesday. I think
- 1:32:20Speaker 24: more women should write it and call in, and it
- 1:32:23Speaker 24: made me feel good. But my thing is is that
- 1:32:27Speaker 24: I I have learned so much from you guys listening
- 1:32:29Speaker 24: to your podcast. Now I can watch a game and
- 1:32:31Speaker 24: go they're.
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: In cover two.
- 1:32:34Speaker 24: So so thank you for all your all your teaching points.
- 1:32:38Speaker 24: I appreciate it. But my thing is, you're kind of
- 1:32:40Speaker 24: still on my thunder we were just talking about. But
- 1:32:43Speaker 24: you got to have hope. Hope you have nothing, you know,
- 1:32:48Speaker 24: Like I go to the Colts game because to see
- 1:32:51Speaker 24: the other teams basically, but I went to see I
- 1:32:54Speaker 24: went to see them play Kansas City last year.
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: They won.
- 1:32:58Speaker 24: I mean, you just don't.
- 1:33:00Speaker 9: Oh.
- 1:33:00Speaker 24: I thought they were going to get their butt handed
- 1:33:02Speaker 24: to them and they didn't. So I just want to
- 1:33:04Speaker 24: tell everybody out there, you know we're gonna get a couple.
- 1:33:08Speaker 24: You know we're gonna be fine, and just.
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: Keep thanks for the quality. You know, here's where you
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: don't have hope. When your ownership or top management are
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: a bunch of idiots. That's when you don't have hope
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: because you just know they're going to screw it up.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: We don't have to worry about that here. I mean,
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: Robert Kraft wants to win more than we do, and
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: he ain't gonna stop demanding that until it happens. So
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: you know that gives you hope too. But when you
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: have incompetent management, then it trickles down and then I
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: can understand losing hope. But we don't have to worry
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: about that here.
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: You're so right, and I mean I don't need to
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: name teams, but if you have an owner that doesn't
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: really want to win and just wants to kind of
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: make money, and you feel like, hey, even when we
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: actually do hit on these draft picks, that it's not
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: really gonna matter because they're not going to stay here anyway,
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: because this guy is not going to pay anybody.
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: The owner of the Boston Red Sox, you know, like oh,
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: like you know, you look at the Detroit Lions for years,
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: like the owners were kind of hands off, and so
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: they put Matt Millan as the GM and he's a
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: disaster and they just won't change it because he's a
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: nice guy. They like him and they don't want to
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: fire him. And so like you're a Lion fan AND's like,
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: what are we doing? We've got to do something, you know,
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: and that makes you lose hope, you know.
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: I mean we're you know, we we're still connected to
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: you know, the last twenty years. But I have full
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: confidence in you know, everything that the Crafts have done
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: for this team, for this area. I mean, I've said
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: it a hundred times. When I grew up, that stadium
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: was the scariest place on earth to me, and now it's,
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: you know, a place that you bring your kids in.
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: I mean, it's just a center to this whole area.
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: So and it's no coincidence that tomorrow is payday.
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: Hope that I'll still come through, but I mean, but
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: you know, everything aside and even working here, I mean,
- 1:34:54Speaker 3: it's just like that that to me, everything he's done
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: for this area. And I know how much he loves
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: this team, and I know how much Jonathan loves the team,
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: and I know that you know, when when it does
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: come time to move past Bill, that they're going to
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: have high expectations still and you know, old.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: Them us said it, but the record of the team
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: is a reflection on them. They believe that. So like
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: if you're eight and nine. They're eight and nine. They
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: don't like that.
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: They don't like that, And I think that's what people forget.
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: And I mean you're using the Crafts as the example,
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: which of course is true, but I mean like Bill
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: wants to win too, like like I know, I know
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: in his heart, like it isn't always the way we
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: want it to be, and it's prickly, and you know,
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: sometimes it feels like he's got a middle fact that
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: I'll have with you on this because you know me
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: with Bill right now, he's on my radar.
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: The biggest thing with Bill is does he want to
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: win at all costs still? Or does he want to
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: win his way? Because the way where I think a
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: lot of trying to kind of put into perspective what
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: people's frustrations are or is that this feels like a
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: team that is going to have to win being fundamentally
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: sound in all three phases and not being themselves probably
- 1:35:59Speaker 5: really above average to really really good on defense, and
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: have like an offense that can manage the game and
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: then and then win in the in the kicking game.
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: And I've heard a lot of like, oh, well, like
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: this is kind of you know, two thousand and one
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: was kind of like that, right where you have like
- 1:36:14Speaker 5: a quarterback that doesn't beat himself and it's okay, but
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: does that does that win at a high level anymore
- 1:36:22Speaker 5: today's game?
- 1:36:23Speaker 3: Does that?
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: Does that? Is that going to be good enough?
- 1:36:26Speaker 5: If they are serviceable on offense and not you know,
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: not beating themselves on offense, really really good on defense
- 1:36:33Speaker 5: and they have that advantage on special teams that still
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: hold as much weight as it did twenty years ag And.
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: How how long are you willing to not win to
- 1:36:41Speaker 2: prove yourself?
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: Right? Right?
- 1:36:42Speaker 9: You know?
- 1:36:42Speaker 5: Because if I, if I, if Bill wants to win
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: at all costs, if that's like what the mantra is,
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: then he would have traded for Jerry Judy, or traded
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: for DeAndre Hopkins or you know, done some a couple
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: of bigger splash lits.
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: Truly believe that that's not gonna do it? I don't know.
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: I think he does, truly.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: I'll be right back. I'll be quick.
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: Well, I think he does truly believe that. I think
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: he does still truly believe that that you don't need
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: to light up the scoreboard to win like everybody else
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: thinks that you do or not everybody else, but a
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: lot of people do.
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: But the question is is that is he right still?
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: Well? Right, well, I mean and do you think it's
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: do you think that that I mean, you know, people,
- 1:37:25Speaker 3: do you think asking a seventy year old at the
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: top of his game, who has been at the absolute pinnacle,
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: that you have to change your whole philosophy now if
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: you really want to win, you know, and like, and
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: I'm not you know, I'm obviously I agree with what
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: you're saying. I think he thinks he's right, you know.
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: I think he's one hundred percent sure that football is
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: a cyclical game and things come back around, and yes,
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: right now all the rage is high scoring offenses, and
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: I you know, and then Paul, this is probably where
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: Paul would chime in with something like we always need
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: to be smarter than everybody else. But I think that
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: that's how he views it, you know, like like, and
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: we can talk talk about what I just I think
- 1:38:01Speaker 3: the bottom line for me is that it absolutely crushes
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: him every time this football team loses. Oh, I don't know.
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: And and you know, we can talk about how he
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: can do it, and we can say, yes, I do
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: expect an old coach if he wants to stay in
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: the league and continue to be successful, that you have to.
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: But I also think that he would feel like, I'm
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: just kind of following a fad right now instead of
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: trying to, you know, put my stamp on it and
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: do it my way. And you know, this is again
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: you're dealing with somebody though, who is like the pinnacle
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: of his profession. So it's hard to you know, go
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: to anybody in any profession and say, I know this
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: has been great, and you know you're probably the greatest
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: of all time to ever do this, but it's not
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: working right now. You've got to change It's that's a
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: huge thing.
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: Like, yeah, I think that to do and I mean defensively,
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: I think that he has evolved and they're as good
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: as ever on defense. I honestly believe that. I think
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: that it's offensively and it's like from a team building
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: philosophy standpoint, and I know it's the college game versus
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: a pro game, so it's different. But I keep going
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: back to I think it was like twenty sixteen that
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: Nick Saban said at a press conference good defense isn't
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: good enough anymore, Like you can't win like that anymore.
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: And that's when Alabama started recruiting all of the wide receivers, right,
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: and they became wide receiver you overnight, and they became
- 1:39:14Speaker 5: at school that had quarterbacks drafted in the first round.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: Alabama never had quarterbacks drafted in the first round until
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: Tua and Mac Jones and then obviously Jalen Hurts the
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: second round pick. But all these guys start to come
- 1:39:26Speaker 5: through and now they're top picks. Bryce Young is the
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: number one overall pick a quarterback out of Alabama. That
- 1:39:32Speaker 5: wasn't the case fifteen years with physical questions right, like
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: they were, you know, starting like guys like you know,
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: you know, what's the guy that's now on ESPN that
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: does college football for the Brocket. I don't know, yeah, girlfriend,
- 1:39:46Speaker 5: yeah yeah, yeah no, yeah, but you know, I'm.
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: Talking a J.
- 1:39:54Speaker 5: McCarron of the world, right, Like they were starting those
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: types of quarterbacks and now all of a sudden they evolved.
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: This still feels like we're starting the AJ mccarren's.
- 1:40:02Speaker 5: With the right And I just wonder at what point,
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: like who is is it? Is it Saban? Is it
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: is it somebody else that can that maybe does get
- 1:40:10Speaker 5: through to Bill to be a little bit more offensive
- 1:40:14Speaker 5: focused and a little bit more high powered than that.
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: Real difference, I would say between what Saban is saying,
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: which is true you just look at College in the pros,
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: is that you got to pay these guys in the pros.
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: So when you get Jerry Judy, you got to pay them.
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: You know, now College is starting to get that way,
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: but the school doesn't have to. They get everybody else
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: to pay them.
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: You know, it's just ridiculous when you look at because
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: there was a really clear line of demarcation with Alabama
- 1:40:43Speaker 5: where that that switch flipped in Saban's brain, like we
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: have to we have to light up the scoreboard, like
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: if we're gonna win, we have to do this. And
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: all of a sudden, they had wide receiver rooms that
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: were ridiculous, just like Jerry Judy, DeVante Smith, Henry Ruggs,
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: Jalen Waddle all in the same wide receiver room. And
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: because they realize that we have to put up points,
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: there's no other way to do this.
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: Joshua and Irvine says, I'd just like to say, I
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: believe this team has a rock bottom floor of eight wins,
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: and we have a really good shot at eleven. In
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: twenty fifteen to nineteen, the Patriots went from going all
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: in to maximize Brady's window, and we have spent the
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: last threeish year's cleaning house, getting rid of contracts and
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: building a good staff again after all we lost. Please
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: to the fans listening in, please chill out and give
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: this team a chance. The constant crying and complaining into
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: the show gets tiring. Take a five hundred foot bird's
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: eye view of the last eight or so years, and
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: especially the circumstances after Brady left. The Patriots are far
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: from being in a bad position. We could be much better. Yes,
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: but we're not the Jets, we're not the Commanders, and
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: we're not the Texans, etc.
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: Yeah, just go back to Bill for a second. I
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: mean I for me, I put it like, I know
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: we're talking kind of schematic evolution.
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: I also just I put so much weight on the
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: miss drafts, like and we talked about Keen and as like,
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: I just I think that they have messed up those
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: drafts to epic degree. And I think to a large degree,
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: like what you said overcoming it was, you know, almost
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: a feather in the cap of like this is an
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: eight nine team with an offense that doesn't even know
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: what they're doing out there. So to me, I just
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: think that that's something that I continue to harp on.
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: It's just the drafts and if these young kids start
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: to play, and you know, like William calt In, if
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: these guys start to play and elevate and Marcus Jones,
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: and you know, like this is how you get out
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: of the basement. Like there's not like, well, this offseason,
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: we bought a whole new team. We went out and
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: just signed fifty three free agents and we rebuilt front,
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: you know, and now we have suit Like it just
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: doesn't work that way.
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: I mean even the Rams, who they've done that, they
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: they you know, but but they also drafted really they
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: hit on it.
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: When they have a first round pick, they pick Aaron
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: Donald and when they're taking flyers, they get Cooper, you know,
- 1:43:00Speaker 3: like those they just had. The Patriots haven't had those picks.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: And you know, if you're taking Gronk and Edelman out
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: of the equation, if you took Chandler Jones and Dante
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: Hytower out of the equation, they wouldn't have had three
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: more Super Bowls. You know, Like they drafted well in
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: that kind of in between period yea, and they were
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: able to.
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: Restart it just last year. Just all just holds such
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: a weight on this team because I think a big
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: reason why you know, we all wanted the number one
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: wide receiver trade like we all wanted it. We wanted
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: Jerry Judy. You know, I was lukewarm on Hopkins. Some
- 1:43:31Speaker 5: people might be higher on that type of move for
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: at his age and others, but that move would have
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: made sense. You know that That's always the cherry on top,
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: right when you have everything else, like you feel like
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: everything else is in a good enough place that you
- 1:43:45Speaker 5: can compete at a high level and then you drop
- 1:43:48Speaker 5: aj Brown in, and you drop Stefon digs in, and
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: you drop you know, players of that caliber in. But
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: the Patriots, because they went backwards last year this offseason,
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: it still feels like they're still building up to that point.
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: And the bummer that I think is, you know, to
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: be a little bit pessimistic, is that now the Mac
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: Jones window on the.
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: We've got to figure Mac Jones out. We've got to
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: figure out at the end, you know, by the end
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: of the season, we need we need to know, we
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: need to know if he's the guy, Howard writes in
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: from Connecticut. He says, God, I hate fans like Paul
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: and Speed. Look, I get there, entitled to their opinions,
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: but come on, why even be a fan if that
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: is your view of the team. Well, who'said ever said?
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: Paul's a fannd I have been a fan since Jim
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: Plunkett was the qbing view each year as new and exciting.
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: Specific to this year, you have to believe that the
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: AL is going to be dramatically better with real coaching
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: and an influx of talent. I'm not sure where the
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: influx of talent is, but anyway, uh D will be
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: better with new talent and speed, and they can now
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: contend with and contain those high power offenses. Well, let's
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: wait and see. I get this. I get that they
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: are most likely not winning or even making the AFC
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: Championship or Super Bowl, but you never know. I expect
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: them to go ten and seven and with a little luck,
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: eleven and six games are won by a handful of plays.
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: Last year, those plays went against the Patriots. Maybe this year,
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: with the new talent and coaching, they bounced the Patriots way.
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: Who really knows, but damn the negativity from Patriots fans
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: is draining and sad. Look at the Jets haven't won
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: anything and he didn't use that word since nineteen sixty nine,
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: and yet their fans think every year is the year.
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: The negative New England fans are, in my honest opinion,
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: ridiculous and sad. Why even bother rooting for the team,
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: then go root, then go root for another team?
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: Okay, Okay, well I don't I wouldn't go that far
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: because I'm not going to tell people who to root for.
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: But I do understand that the fan base, some people
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: in the fan base want this to just be what
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: it was, you know with Brady Overnight in Ninatut you're
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: right again, just like they just that just not like
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: you said, in perpetuity, like that's not realistic, Like welcome,
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: welcome to the reality. Like this is what it's like
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: to be a realistic football fan, is that your team
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: is not We're not just talking about the Waltz to
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: the AFC Championship Game every year.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: It's funny as I think of like where we are,
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: and you know, every team's in a different spot, but
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: I just imagine, like you know, kind of where Buffalo
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: is right now of like you feel like, look, we
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: got the guy, we got the pieces. You can maybe
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: see some cracks, like von Miller's coming back, but he's old.
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: You know, you just lost the linebacker. You know, like
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: like it's just it's so hard to keep it together
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: and like as much as you know, it's just a
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: common refrain. Now, well Bill tom Brady the whole time,
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: like all right, well Tom Brady's a great quarterback, but
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: there have been other great quarterbacks that aren't twenty year
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: contenders consistently year in and year out. And that I
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: think was a testament to the draft that they had,
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: you know, and the ability to continue keeping it going.
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: And yes, Brady is awesome and was certainly a huge
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: part of it, but they're you know, look at Aaron
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: Rodgers and the ups and downs of his careers and
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: the bad years that he had. You know, the Bill
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: does deserve some of that credit, but there's a lot
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: that's where you get back now, that get back on
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: that train to draft in those star players.
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: I love Buffalo.
- 1:47:12Speaker 5: I loveless watching their fan base on Twitter and stuff
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: like that. To the big thing in Buffalo right now
- 1:47:17Speaker 5: is what is Dalton kincate. Is he a tight end?
- 1:47:20Speaker 5: Is he a slot receiver? Because because a big, large
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: part of their fan base thinks that they needed a
- 1:47:27Speaker 5: wide receiver, and they draft they drafted a tight end.
- 1:47:30Speaker 5: But then the the you know, the people that think
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: they're smarter than everybody. Doctor, Well, he is the smartest
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: slot receiver. He's just in a tight end. But it's
- 1:47:37Speaker 5: it's just great. They're imploding from the inside.
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: Jack And says, I was a fan of Detroit until
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: the Lions extended Matt Millan's contract as general manager after
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: Millen had just presided over the worst five years in
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: the history of the league. In response, I did something.
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: I became a Patriots fan. There you go, welcome to
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: the club, you go.
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: It's just it's I mean, that's where where I was
- 1:48:00Speaker 3: at when when things were humming here, it was just
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: all right, you know, we just how do we get
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: But when you've never gotten over, like you started this
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: whole dynasty run with a win, so you already had
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: gotten there once, so it was always just a matter
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: of getting back. But for a team like Buffalo, where
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: it's just like you have to get one right, Like
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: you got to get a Super Bowl with Josh Allen
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: and every year and even we saw with Brady it's
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: like every year has their own challenges and Dan Marino right,
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: like you just.
- 1:48:24Speaker 5: You just never know if you're Buffalo. Sorry, I just
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: love making fun of Buffalo.
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: Let's get to the a ticket hutline. Eldred's on the phone.
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: What's up? Eldred caused a ten car? What's up? I
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: was driving down four yesterday there was like a fire
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: in the Median, you know, like in the for you know,
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: the foresty strip between the It was like a fire
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: going on.
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: And nobody else were there and everything.
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: Fire department, Yeah, control burn anyway, go ahead, Eldred. I'm
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: sure you've seen over the years.
- 1:49:05Speaker 9: I want to I want to address that last emailer
- 1:49:09Speaker 9: or Whippy doing the fans because they mad because they're losing,
- 1:49:12Speaker 9: or they whipping and crying. Well, hell, I'm one of them, okay,
- 1:49:16Speaker 9: and I've been a fan that Steve Grogan's Grogan's year,
- 1:49:19Speaker 9: Rose Rby prior saying Bam Cunningham all them.
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: Okay, you know, but but my problem is.
- 1:49:25Speaker 9: Whatever was talking about earlier is still you know, he
- 1:49:30Speaker 9: don't see it the way it used to.
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: Be, like like it is changing.
- 1:49:32Speaker 9: He still think it's back in the nineties and you
- 1:49:35Speaker 9: really can't win that way. You know, you're gonna need
- 1:49:38Speaker 9: that number one guy or you know, some talent. And
- 1:49:40Speaker 9: then the draft, wh you said you missed on Deuce, Well,
- 1:49:43Speaker 9: some of the guys that you drafted that that you
- 1:49:46Speaker 9: are homegrown whatever. You didn't give him the second contract.
- 1:49:49Speaker 9: You know, like, well when do you coming up? You
- 1:49:52Speaker 9: know there's there's supposed to be some of your core,
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: but you let them go to another team. And then
- 1:49:58Speaker 9: when you do sign them, and that's no, that's the
- 1:50:02Speaker 9: more rather than the team. That's one day that they
- 1:50:04Speaker 9: get me first rate, the mostly field, the GM part, Yeah,
- 1:50:07Speaker 9: coach love him. Jam I can't stand it.
- 1:50:09Speaker 5: But yeah, I'm with Algra one hundred percent on the
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: twenty twenty draft class. Guys, you finally hit on some
- 1:50:16Speaker 5: players in the draft after such a long period of
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: time where you had him run and yeah, josh U
- 1:50:22Speaker 5: j might only be like a situational type player.
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: He is our situation.
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: But he's fantastic at his thing right, Like he's a
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: really an elite pass rusher. He's a top end of
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: talent at that position, in that role. And Kyle Duggart,
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: there's Kyle Duggers should never wear another uniform, like you know,
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: like Kyle, Kyle Dugger should be here for the next
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: four years, just like he was here for the first four.
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: And those are the type of guys that you gotta resign.
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: Well anyway, I like, but he's a guard. So if
- 1:50:52Speaker 5: you want to let go of the guard then and
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: that's where you're gonna cut costs. And I can live
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: with it. But Dugger and j are two guys that
- 1:50:58Speaker 5: you should resign.
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: And it's hard on the on the shields of the
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: twenty nineteen draft. That was a that was an over right.
- 1:51:05Speaker 9: But that's that's my biggest greg with Grill with Bill,
- 1:51:08Speaker 9: he just you know, he said, it's still back at him.
- 1:51:11Speaker 9: And like I said, I'm gonna be honest with you,
- 1:51:13Speaker 9: don't care if somebody get mad at me and knock
- 1:51:14Speaker 9: and I had his out on the Facebook patron future.
- 1:51:18Speaker 9: If he din't have Tom Brady, he'd be like Cleveland,
- 1:51:21Speaker 9: he'd be out, he'd be out. And I'm still gonna
- 1:51:23Speaker 9: stay there.
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: All right, you know, Okay, all right, I'll think, Hey,
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: all right, Aldrick, keep on trucking.
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: Paul was out on Bill in like twenty sixteen, they're
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: voting the Lombard.
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: That is a good question when he was out on him.
- 1:51:38Speaker 3: It's funny because I came in when it was already kind.
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: Of uh, Paul writes in I just thought you might
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: find this humorous. Antonio Brown has recently purchased the local
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: Albany Empire Arena football team. His father, Touchdown Eddie Brown,
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: played for the Albany team twenty years ago and still
- 1:51:54Speaker 2: lives in the area. Since purchasing the team a few
- 1:51:56Speaker 2: months ago, he has been through three head coaches. Keep
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: in mind, the team won the championship the last two seasons.
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: He named his father of the GM. He's been accused
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: of stiffing the team dinner bill at a local restaurant.
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: He was involved in an altercation with security guards at
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: his own arena. There was a fistfight on the team bus,
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: and he showed up uninvited at my son's local high
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: school to promote the team on TikTok. Apparently he plans
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: to actually play for the team this weekend. Here's hoping
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: it doesn't go any better.
- 1:52:25Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, yeah, Antonio Brown, Where were you when
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: they signed Antonio Brown? Here with the Patriots.
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: That was like a what the man needs some therapy?
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: He worried about John Morant.
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: Way, you gotta just put the guns away, man?
- 1:52:42Speaker 18: What?
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: Yeah, a quick game?
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: Where did I go to college? Patriots version? Ray Agnew.
- 1:52:50Speaker 4: Way before my time?
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: Wake Forest, North Carolina State, Max Lane. Come on, now,
- 1:53:00Speaker 2: he didn't finish.
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: Iowa Navy.
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: Bobby Hamilton, No.
- 1:53:05Speaker 4: Paul is not here.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: So these are all right a little a little bit
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: more recent Keith Evans, auburn An, Matthew Slater, okay, and
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: then one more old guy but maybe you know Steve Grogan.
- 1:53:22Speaker 3: Oh, it's not like a weird one.
- 1:53:25Speaker 21: No.
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: No, Kansas State, Kansas State.
- 1:53:28Speaker 18: No.
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: I should have known that one. I knew that that duce.
- 1:53:34Speaker 2: Let's see. Jake writes in from Australia. Uh trust us
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: to lose two days of o t as for reasons
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: that aren't available yet. But since then they've come out
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: just wondering if now O'Brien is in whom we trust
- 1:53:47Speaker 2: to save us? Do we know now say that Bill
- 1:53:50Speaker 2: O'Brien and Bill O'Brien we trust or in teapot we
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: trust as we can't say Bill, because that gives us.
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: It gives too much credit to b b okay, so
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: he's so in other words, what do how do we
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: phrase it?
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: Oh?
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: I don't know. I just want to see some wins.
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: I want to see some wins over some good teams,
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: and you know, like I don't I don't care. I'll
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: give credit af towards And if the offense is all
- 1:54:12Speaker 3: of a sudden, I'm like lightening it up.
- 1:54:14Speaker 4: I'll be like in Bill O'Brien, we trust.
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: But if it's still kind of the same thing and
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: the defense is shutting them down and then it's opportunistic
- 1:54:20Speaker 3: at the end and pull it out like an old fashion,
- 1:54:22Speaker 3: then all right and billbi trust.
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: Also, I'm expecting my second child in the next couple
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: of weeks and we're stuck for names. Any suggestions from
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: the legends on board today? I don't know.
- 1:54:32Speaker 3: Naming kids is tough.
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: Don't don't name your kid a name for like a
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: child name, you know what I mean, like Cody, and
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: like Cody.
- 1:54:46Speaker 10: We had a lot of Cody's fans, but like, like,
- 1:54:50Speaker 10: assume that your child's going to become a man or
- 1:54:53Speaker 10: a woman someday and don't name It's like you don't
- 1:54:56Speaker 10: name them something that only applies.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: To a kid in grade school.
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: You just go straight to Jack, you know, like Jack,
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: and he's like a four year old name that he
- 1:55:04Speaker 3: can live with. I mean, my kids are Tyson and Campbell.
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: We wanted things that weren't like very common, but weren't
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: like really off the beaten path. So you know, we
- 1:55:12Speaker 3: went with American food companies for whatever reason.
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: Okay, but I do call him Campbell soup.
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: Well, you got pretty soupy.
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: I didn't think it's like, I'm not gonning to call
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: him chicken fingers.
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: He's like chicken, yeah, chicken. Yeah, you got a new
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: Jason in your life.
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: You have a Jason.
- 1:55:28Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I uh so.
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: My sister's name is Jackie and her husband's name is James.

- 1:55:39Speaker 5: which is so he's he's built like my my sister's
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: husband's family. We are not going you're not skinny and
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: tall people.
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: I think I think there's something to be said about
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: naming your kid somebody from your family, you know, yeah,
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: giving honor to somebody. Yeah.
- 1:55:53Speaker 5: So Jason's named after my great uncle Jerry.
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: And he's something too, that's nice.
- 1:55:57Speaker 5: Yeah, And then his his name middle name is Carter,
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: which is after James's mother.
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: You know, So I'm gonna name our daughter Zoe because
- 1:56:05Speaker 2: she's gonna be a free spirit. Like she's also gonna
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: be a woman. You know.
- 1:56:10Speaker 3: You gotta get some more friends. We need some little
- 1:56:12Speaker 3: friends out there, and there are a lot of little

- 1:56:19Speaker 3: Name there, but that'd be cute. I feel like it's coming, like,

- 1:56:23Speaker 3: his name for? This is Freddie? I don't know, Like
- 1:56:26Speaker 3: you know, there's like Gertrude's and things like that.
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: When my mother wouldn't let any of my friends call
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: me Freddy, No Frederick.

- 1:56:37Speaker 5: the j's, which I like, I pushed Julian I wanted
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: Julian didn't get that. Still, and then there's a j
- 1:56:48Speaker 5: too many James.
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I need some of those fans. They have
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: like ten kids, and every kid's first letter is the same,
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: like the Kardashian Bobby Billy.
