- 2:57Speaker 7: big dog.
- 2:58Speaker 3: You ready for shore for sure?
- 3:01Speaker 5: All right, guys, welcome back. Ey Elis is going to
- 3:03Speaker 5: be exciting episode. We enter in the world of golf
- 3:07Speaker 5: for the first time ever.
- 3:09Speaker 2: It's been a while since we have even golf course.
- 3:13Speaker 5: A minuture golf real golf, real real. So Elijah want
- 3:20Speaker 5: a John a cool correctly John and Earl Cooper. So
- 3:27Speaker 5: this is a very interesting story. Entrepreneurs and they have
- 3:30Speaker 5: a company called east Side Golf where they make golf apparel.
- 3:33Speaker 5: They both have roots in golf. Elijah was actually a
- 3:36Speaker 5: professional golfer, and I just found out that Earl is
- 3:39Speaker 5: one of the best golf coaches in the nation. So
- 3:42Speaker 5: this is an interesting story. How it came about was
- 3:46Speaker 5: face to face hand in hand combo. We was in
- 3:50Speaker 5: Atlanta a few months ago and I was in a
- 3:53Speaker 5: hotel lobby and Earl ran up on me and they
- 3:57Speaker 5: started a conversation and he was telling me about his business.
- 4:00Speaker 5: And you know, people come up to me all the
- 4:02Speaker 5: time and it's like, all right, cool, but this was
- 4:04Speaker 5: something that really caught my attention because he showed me
- 4:06Speaker 5: that they were actually having a collaboration with Jordan Brand,
- 4:10Speaker 5: so they were taking like retro Jordan's and turning them
- 4:13Speaker 5: into golf shoes. So and I'm like, that's your your company,
- 4:18Speaker 5: and he's like yeah, he showed me like the news
- 4:19Speaker 5: articles and all of that, like right on the spot.
- 4:21Speaker 5: He's very prepared. So I'm like, all right, I gave
- 4:23Speaker 5: my number. I'm like, let's connect.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So this is how it related to me. Yo, there's
- 4:27Speaker 2: a golf company they signed with Jordan. I said, Jordan, Oh,
- 4:29Speaker 2: let's let's speak to him.
- 4:33Speaker 5: So we connected the dots and they were in New York,
- 4:36Speaker 5: so we made it happen fews later.
- 4:38Speaker 2: A lot of pressure too, like when we were in Atlanta,
- 4:41Speaker 2: they ran up on you. But then like there was
- 4:42Speaker 2: a bunch of people who I think y'all were doing
- 4:44Speaker 2: something in my family.
- 4:45Speaker 8: So we we were doing actually like an unveiling to
- 4:48Speaker 8: shoot family. So it was like a family and friends
- 4:51Speaker 8: thing where we kind of just just filming a bunch
- 4:53Speaker 8: of content.
- 4:54Speaker 2: We walked in the lobby one night and it's like
- 4:55Speaker 2: it's like these guys you gotta need they're doing something
- 4:58Speaker 2: great and golf. I'm like, it's three in morning, what's
- 5:02Speaker 2: the Instagram?
- 5:04Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 5:05Speaker 5: But so yeah, that's a dope story.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Man.
- 5:06Speaker 5: You never know, Like I said, that was something that
- 5:09Speaker 5: he had enough courage to just run up on me
- 5:11Speaker 5: and he was prepared. So there's a couple of different
- 5:12Speaker 5: lessons in that. And I like the product. I looked
- 5:15Speaker 5: at it, and here we are now. So first and fun,
- 5:18Speaker 5: thank you Gods for joining us. Appreciate it, thanks you
- 5:20Speaker 5: for having me welcome.
- 5:22Speaker 8: And I do want to add because like it was
- 5:23Speaker 8: that moment where I was like, I seen him and
- 5:26Speaker 8: I was like, do I say something? I am actually
- 5:29Speaker 8: and I was like, you know what, Noah, I forget that.
- 5:30Speaker 8: I'm turning around and like I said, yeah, thanks for
- 5:34Speaker 8: having us for sure, for sure for sure. So let's
- 5:36Speaker 8: get into it all right, So East Side Golf, we're
- 5:38Speaker 8: going to talk about where you guys are now working
- 5:40Speaker 8: with Jordan Brand and blowing up and all that.
- 5:42Speaker 5: But how did it starts? Interesting? I believe you're from Delaware, yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 5: and you're from Atlanta side Atlanta. So golf is not
- 5:52Speaker 5: a sport that black people traditionally play, you know, obviously
- 5:56Speaker 5: this Tiger Woods, but that's kind of like an anomaly.
- 5:58Speaker 5: That's not like the norm, right, basketball, football, especially coming
- 6:02Speaker 5: from urban environments Atlanta, you know, Wilmington, Delaware and stuff
- 6:07Speaker 5: like that, I'm pretty sure that that golf wasn't extremely
- 6:09Speaker 5: popular sport. So how did you guys start playing golf
- 6:14Speaker 5: as you know, young men, young adults.
- 6:16Speaker 9: Yeah, honestly, I so I grew up in East Atlanta
- 6:20Speaker 9: and I started playing golf when I was six years old.
- 6:22Speaker 9: Friend of the family introducing me to the game. I
- 6:25Speaker 9: grew up with his sons playing playing golf, and we
- 6:29Speaker 9: all ended up getting golf scholarships to go to school.
- 6:31Speaker 3: So one went to.
- 6:32Speaker 9: Southern University golf scholarship, Telladigga College golf scholarship, but I
- 6:36Speaker 9: went to Morehouse with a golf scholarship.
- 6:38Speaker 10: So we were all on the same high school team.
- 6:40Speaker 9: But we just grew up in Atlanta, you know, playing
- 6:43Speaker 9: junior events and then playing against each other in college
- 6:46Speaker 9: and then yeah, I.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Mean, yeah, what was that like though, because I mean,
- 6:51Speaker 2: golf is not the It's one of those expensive sports
- 6:54Speaker 2: to play. Yes, it's solo sport, but its expensive to play.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So what was that like growing up and having to
- 6:59Speaker 2: pay for equipment and then walking around with the Stickma, Like,
- 7:02Speaker 2: you're the guy in the hood that's playing golf while
- 7:05Speaker 2: everybody's playing football, basketball, maybe some baseball players. What was
- 7:09Speaker 2: that like growing up?
- 7:10Speaker 3: For sure? Now it was different.
- 7:13Speaker 9: I mean I would say, because I played basketball just
- 7:16Speaker 9: as much as I played golf. And I mean I
- 7:19Speaker 9: played basketball league in high school. But growing up it
- 7:22Speaker 9: was expensive, Yeah it was. But I ended up joining
- 7:25Speaker 9: a program called Camp Best Friends, and then later it
- 7:28Speaker 9: became called the First Team of Atlanta. The First Team program.
- 7:33Speaker 9: They supplied me with like free golf clubs you know
- 7:35Speaker 9: here and there also donations were given as far as
- 7:39Speaker 9: golf balls, golf clothes, things that we could use just
- 7:42Speaker 9: to help us out, you know, with with being prepared
- 7:47Speaker 9: when we go to golf tournaments and just coming to
- 7:49Speaker 9: the golf course period. You know, like there were plenty
- 7:52Speaker 9: of times I went to Goodwill, you know what I'm saying,
- 7:54Speaker 9: just to find golf clothes. And on top of that,
- 7:57Speaker 9: I mean I used to take the Marta with my
- 7:59Speaker 9: golf clubs, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And used to ride thee through the hood I.
- 8:04Speaker 9: Mean with my golf club straight up to the golf course.
- 8:06Speaker 9: And you know, definitely got looked at crazy, you know,
- 8:09Speaker 9: And but I already knew what the goal was, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 9: and I wanted golf to be something that I used
- 8:16Speaker 9: for the rest of my life. You know. It got
- 8:18Speaker 9: to a point even in high school, had to make
- 8:20Speaker 9: a decision in between golf and basketball.
- 8:22Speaker 10: You know what I'm saying. That's just how much it
- 8:24Speaker 10: meant to me.
- 8:24Speaker 9: But growing up in it, I would say the best
- 8:27Speaker 9: part of it was learning from the people at the
- 8:30Speaker 9: golf course.
- 8:31Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 8:32Speaker 9: The type of crowd that's out there, it's usually like entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers.
- 8:37Speaker 10: People that just have things going on.
- 8:39Speaker 9: And I mean, you start a conversation with a guy
- 8:42Speaker 9: instead of asking them for you know, to go out
- 8:45Speaker 9: with them for coffee or for a drink or just
- 8:48Speaker 9: to chill or set to talk.
- 8:50Speaker 10: I mean, you got five hours with the guy out
- 8:52Speaker 10: on the golf course.
- 8:53Speaker 9: Now you can, you know, talk about what you want
- 8:55Speaker 9: to do with your life, what you want to do
- 8:57Speaker 9: in your career. I mean, and on top of that,
- 8:59Speaker 9: you outside like it's just a way to build that camaraderie,
- 9:03Speaker 9: that relationship and learn how to build that relationship. Well,
- 9:08Speaker 9: you get relationship building skills from just being in golf,
- 9:11Speaker 9: and it definitely did help me growing up.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that that's something that people don't fully appreciate,
- 9:16Speaker 5: especially like you know, poor working class, middle class people,
- 9:21Speaker 5: where you are trained to go to a school and
- 9:25Speaker 5: then work and it's like you work at a job
- 9:27Speaker 5: all day. And when I started to become around wealthy
- 9:30Speaker 5: people and I realized that they were spending like eight
- 9:33Speaker 5: hours a day, three days a week on the golf
- 9:35Speaker 5: course because it wasn't so much about working, it was
- 9:39Speaker 5: about networking and building relationships. And they say, like the
- 9:43Speaker 5: barbershop is like the black Man's golf course is really
- 9:45Speaker 5: not country club. It's really not. It's a barbershop. Look
- 9:49Speaker 5: disrespect it's a barbershop. But I get it the conversations
- 9:54Speaker 5: that's happening, because I don't think people understand, especially like
- 9:58Speaker 5: you know, you go to a high end golf course,
- 10:00Speaker 5: you could be paying one hundred twenty thousand dollars a
- 10:02Speaker 5: year for your annual membership, like fifty thousand dollars a year,
- 10:06Speaker 5: sixty thousand dollars a year for your annual So if
- 10:08Speaker 5: you're paying one hundred thousand dollars a year to use
- 10:10Speaker 5: the golf course in New York four months out the year,
- 10:13Speaker 5: five months out of the year. You're obviously extremely wealthy, right,
- 10:16Speaker 5: So now it's like, if you have six hours to
- 10:20Speaker 5: just spend time with people, you're naturally gonna build a relationship, right,
- 10:25Speaker 5: So can you really break that down it really? Because,
- 10:27Speaker 5: like I said, I don't think if you haven't been
- 10:29Speaker 5: in that world, it's hard for you to fully understand
- 10:31Speaker 5: why people say that golfing is like the perfect networking too,
- 10:34Speaker 5: and why a lot of deals are done on the
- 10:36Speaker 5: golf course. So can you kind of like just break
- 10:39Speaker 5: that down a little bit?
- 10:40Speaker 9: Yeah, I would say so just to go off of
- 10:45Speaker 9: what you just said about one hundred thousand dollars membership fee,
- 10:49Speaker 9: imagine the type of people that have that membership.
- 10:52Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 10:53Speaker 9: Now, you're going out there and these are the people
- 10:55Speaker 9: that you're networking with. These are the people that are
- 10:57Speaker 9: in your circle that move, that have things, move in
- 11:01Speaker 9: the city, or just move around the country period. You
- 11:04Speaker 9: never know what business they own, you know what I'm saying,
- 11:08Speaker 9: what they're invested in, or maybe you could actually work
- 11:11Speaker 9: with them at some point in time, but breaking it
- 11:13Speaker 9: down all the way. I mean, let's say you, like
- 11:16Speaker 9: I said, you want to go out for coffee. This
- 11:18Speaker 9: is a time where you take you want to go
- 11:22Speaker 9: with your let's say a person that you look up
- 11:26Speaker 9: to or friends, and you just want a network, you know,
- 11:29Speaker 9: for an hour and just talk round table discussion. Instead
- 11:32Speaker 9: of doing that, if you pick up golf, now it's
- 11:36Speaker 9: those people in those higher positions, they will take that
- 11:40Speaker 9: four hours and go play golf, which instead of taking
- 11:43Speaker 9: an hour out of their day and just going to
- 11:45Speaker 9: get coffee. I mean, you're actually doing something that they
- 11:47Speaker 9: want to do. And on top of that, golf relates
- 11:51Speaker 9: to business a lot. I mean, when you really look
- 11:54Speaker 9: at it, you have to be patient, hard working, I
- 11:57Speaker 9: would say, perseverance, honesty. All of these things are in golf.
- 12:02Speaker 9: But if you don't do these things in golf, and
- 12:04Speaker 9: you're playing golf with somebody that you want to do
- 12:06Speaker 9: business with, and let's say you're not resembling those those morals,
- 12:10Speaker 9: those those adjectives or whatever you want to call them
- 12:12Speaker 9: about yourself, they're gonna notice and not even want to
- 12:15Speaker 9: do business with you.
- 12:16Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:17Speaker 9: I mean, let's say you cheat or something while you're
- 12:19Speaker 9: on a golf course or take head to that, they
- 12:21Speaker 9: gonna think you're gonna do the same thing in business,
- 12:23Speaker 9: you know, So it's like just the same way a
- 12:26Speaker 9: person plays golf, you might get really really upset. You
- 12:29Speaker 9: might not want that in your business, same way they
- 12:31Speaker 9: might look at you in business. Golf and business just
- 12:34Speaker 9: go hand in hand. So I mean that's just the
- 12:37Speaker 9: way that I kind of look at it, if you yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 5: All right. So before we get into the company, Earl,
- 12:43Speaker 5: how did you get your start in golf?
- 12:45Speaker 3: Inner City? You've golf programmed?
- 12:47Speaker 8: My dad just seen a fly, just sign me up,
- 12:51Speaker 8: just signed me and my sister up, and kind of,
- 12:53Speaker 8: you know, similar to what y'all were hitting on early on,
- 12:56Speaker 8: like just being out on the golf course being the
- 12:58Speaker 8: only one you know. There's definitely like I tell people
- 13:01Speaker 8: all the time, like I was good at it, but
- 13:03Speaker 8: it was still kind of one of those things like
- 13:05Speaker 8: where all my friends, like where everybody you know, when
- 13:07Speaker 8: you're young, especially playing like sports, you're just really out
- 13:11Speaker 8: there for the social aspect, like you don't think about, oh,
- 13:13Speaker 8: making millions of dollars or whatever what it can do
- 13:16Speaker 8: for you.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Unlock the potential.
- 13:18Speaker 8: But I ended up winning this tournament called the Golf
- 13:21Speaker 8: and Drive Chip and Putt, which is like the equivalent
- 13:23Speaker 8: of kick putting pass essentially exactly.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Yep.
- 13:27Speaker 8: So I end up winning that and a free trip
- 13:29Speaker 8: to Disney World. I was on TV and I never forget.
- 13:32Speaker 8: I was like thirteen, and I'm like, man, if every
- 13:34Speaker 8: golf to him is like this, I'm ready to practice.
- 13:36Speaker 8: Because like before then it was just like, you know,
- 13:38Speaker 8: it was kind of just golf. Who wants to do
- 13:39Speaker 8: that kind of thing? And then that's when I kind
- 13:41Speaker 8: of just embraced it. And then from there God was
- 13:45Speaker 8: fortunate enough to get a scholarship the Moroles College. But
- 13:48Speaker 8: it was definitely interesting path. As you guys were mentioned earlier,
- 13:52Speaker 8: just like walking with golf clubs, you know what I mean,
- 13:55Speaker 8: Like that's just not normal still even today. Like if
- 13:57Speaker 8: you saw a kid or a girl, a young man
- 13:59Speaker 8: and boy walking with golf cluse, You're like, yo, they're lost,
- 14:02Speaker 8: Like is there a golf course around here? And so
- 14:04Speaker 8: it was just kind of one of those things where
- 14:06Speaker 8: so my pops end up actually like we end up
- 14:08Speaker 8: moving to a house that was like on the golf
- 14:10Speaker 8: course and end up like cutting a hole in the fence,
- 14:14Speaker 8: so I didn't have to like climbing anymore, and that
- 14:16Speaker 8: definitely was a benefit, you know, my journey as far
- 14:19Speaker 8: as like just getting into the game and then just
- 14:21Speaker 8: kind of normalize. And I think that's kind of where
- 14:24Speaker 8: we are right now, like a lot of every decisions
- 14:26Speaker 8: that we make when we think about the company and
- 14:28Speaker 8: just kind of think about like what did we wish
- 14:30Speaker 8: that we had, you know what I mean when we
- 14:31Speaker 8: were growing up, Like giving them that example, like being
- 14:34Speaker 8: that like stuff that you can wear on and off
- 14:36Speaker 8: the golf course, you know what I mean. That's so
- 14:38Speaker 8: important because a lot of times it's just like it's
- 14:40Speaker 8: golf and it's just kind of put in a box.
- 14:42Speaker 8: And then you got to kind of fight those stereotypes
- 14:44Speaker 8: moving forward. And then, like you said earlier, when it
- 14:48Speaker 8: just comes to business, it's just one of those things
- 14:50Speaker 8: where it's a sport where like it's just you, and
- 14:55Speaker 8: so it's kind of like that you got to go
- 14:57Speaker 8: get it like you and you can't blame anybody else,
- 15:00Speaker 8: Like there's no reason like to push off on anybody else.
- 15:02Speaker 8: It's all of you. You put the work in, you
- 15:04Speaker 8: get all the results. But it's similar to like entrepreneurship,
- 15:06Speaker 8: I would say, kind of in that way. And I
- 15:09Speaker 8: feel like that's why a lot of great people and
- 15:11Speaker 8: other sports are attracted to golf, because it's like if
- 15:14Speaker 8: you play football, you can blame it on your lineman,
- 15:16Speaker 8: you know, MJ. You know, Damn Scotty ain't giving me
- 15:18Speaker 8: the ball back or whatever, you know, whatever the situation
- 15:21Speaker 8: may be, it's just kind of like all on you
- 15:23Speaker 8: and most people that you know, if you've been playing
- 15:26Speaker 8: team sports your whole life, you like the individual list.
- 15:29Speaker 3: I guess when it comes to golf.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Now, you said something good about normalizing it, and Elijah,
- 15:34Speaker 2: I'm coming to you because I read this story. Man,
- 15:36Speaker 2: I'd love for you to elaborate on it where you
- 15:38Speaker 2: talked about how instead of having basketball and gambling on dice,
- 15:43Speaker 2: the guys are gambling on your putts. Yeah, let's let's
- 15:46Speaker 2: talk about that, man, he said, Landa. First of all,
- 15:49Speaker 2: we'll be playing and how are we gambling on putts? Well,
- 15:51Speaker 2: let's talk about that.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:54Speaker 9: So I played in a couple of courses what was
- 15:56Speaker 9: called Sugar Creek Golf Courses, A Boulder Chris Road of
- 16:00Speaker 9: your Gucci man, yell out Boulder Crest, you know, but
- 16:03Speaker 9: it's right off Boulder Crest. Another place that I played
- 16:06Speaker 9: Doctor J You sown it. It was called Heritage Links
- 16:10Speaker 9: and that was in Georgia as well.
- 16:12Speaker 5: But there's a there's a golf course in Kirkwood that
- 16:17Speaker 5: we stayed in the airbnbing Kirkwood. It was honestly that
- 16:19Speaker 5: the neighborhoods getting real gentified and it was a really
- 16:21Speaker 5: nice I forgot, but it was. It was like like
- 16:25Speaker 5: one block down on the same street. It was a
- 16:27Speaker 5: golf course.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 16:31Speaker 9: But so usually how it went, I mean, you ended
- 16:35Speaker 9: up playing eighteen holes. You know what I'm saying. It's
- 16:37Speaker 9: gambling involved, but the real gambling. I would say in
- 16:41Speaker 9: my younger days, King, you got to the clubhouse. So
- 16:43Speaker 9: you're getting the clubhouse, everybody drinking. They got like a
- 16:46Speaker 9: little cognyak glass, you know what I'm saying. You put
- 16:49Speaker 9: it down and when they put it down, it's open
- 16:51Speaker 9: on this side. So now you're putting into the glass
- 16:54Speaker 9: and let's say somebody comes out and throw a thousand
- 16:56Speaker 9: on the ground, Like all right, it's twenty feet, what's up?
- 16:59Speaker 9: You got a two tries? You know, you've missed. That's
- 17:03Speaker 9: a thousand, you know what I'm saying. But it got
- 17:05Speaker 9: to a point I used to literally make my lunch money,
- 17:09Speaker 9: you know what I'm saying from these putts.
- 17:10Speaker 3: They would, you know.
- 17:11Speaker 9: We betting two grand, betting five hundred, They give me half,
- 17:15Speaker 9: you know what I'm saying. And these were the guys
- 17:17Speaker 9: that I grew up around. I mean, you know, some
- 17:20Speaker 9: of them weren't entrepreneurs. They were entrepreneurs in their own way,
- 17:22Speaker 9: you know what I'm saying. And they was, you know,
- 17:24Speaker 9: always took care of them themselves and their family in
- 17:27Speaker 9: their own way. But when it came to golf, I mean,
- 17:29Speaker 9: they enjoyed the sport. They saw where you can build
- 17:33Speaker 9: camaraderie and you and you can build those relationships and
- 17:36Speaker 9: it not be strenuous or feel some type of way
- 17:40Speaker 9: while you're doing it. But while we was in there,
- 17:42Speaker 9: you know, everybody just betting. It's a full crowd, thirty
- 17:45Speaker 9: people butting. It's twenty feet putting in side of the glass.
- 17:49Speaker 3: You make it.
- 17:50Speaker 9: I mean sometimes a lot of times you hit the glass.
- 17:52Speaker 9: I mean that's it. It's almost been fistfights, you know
- 17:55Speaker 9: what I'm saying, Because it hit the back of the
- 17:56Speaker 9: glass and come out, you know what I'm saying. But
- 17:58Speaker 9: it's I mean, damn, it's like dice, you know what
- 18:01Speaker 9: I'm saying. You just got to be prepared for anything.
- 18:03Speaker 9: And on top of that too, I mean, you better
- 18:05Speaker 9: better be practicing, you know what I'm saying. You're not,
- 18:08Speaker 9: You're gonna get.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Got So how did you guys start this company? How
- 18:14Speaker 5: did your love for golf and the sport turned to
- 18:17Speaker 5: becoming entrepreneurs?
- 18:18Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 18:18Speaker 9: So I was, Uh so I was living so first off,
- 18:23Speaker 9: I graduating from college, you know me, and.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Won the national championship to don't.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Let that go over?
- 18:32Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, what division D two? D two?
- 18:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 18:37Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 18:38Speaker 9: So graduate from college. My major was accounting, minoring finance.
- 18:42Speaker 9: I did professional golf for two years and won a
- 18:45Speaker 9: couple of mini tour events events, So I got professional wins,
- 18:49Speaker 9: and but I was hustling, you know what I'm saying.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I was washing carts.
- 18:53Speaker 9: I was doing a little mini jobs in a bookstore,
- 18:56Speaker 9: you know, caddy and anything I could do. It got
- 18:58Speaker 9: to the point I just could not afford it anymore.
- 19:01Speaker 9: I mean, it costs maybe one hundred tow one hundred
- 19:03Speaker 9: and fifty grand a year just to support yourself to
- 19:06Speaker 9: play golf.
- 19:07Speaker 2: What are some of the costs.
- 19:09Speaker 9: Let's see entry fees in the tournaments, my caddy fee.
- 19:12Speaker 9: Let's say I want to pay my coach, travel, airfare
- 19:17Speaker 9: for you and your caddy, food, if something breaks your car,
- 19:21Speaker 9: I mean, everything, your apartment least you mean.
- 19:24Speaker 2: So that's interest because I never always wondered, but like,
- 19:27Speaker 2: what does it cost to get into a tournament like
- 19:29Speaker 2: a PGA tournament. Is there a minimum that you have
- 19:32Speaker 2: to put up or is it does it just depend
- 19:34Speaker 2: on the course itself.
- 19:35Speaker 8: So yeah, I was gonna say so, Like for the
- 19:38Speaker 8: PGA Tour, it's a little bit different, so there is
- 19:41Speaker 8: an entry fee, but it's kind of small. But what
- 19:43Speaker 8: he's talking about is like many tours, so basically like
- 19:46Speaker 8: a lower level like a g league, like if you're
- 19:48Speaker 8: trying to like overseas, kind of like overseas, and basically
- 19:53Speaker 8: you're paying anywhere from I would say, eight hundred dollars
- 19:58Speaker 8: to like fifteen hundred dollars for one week. But then
- 20:00Speaker 8: you got it's a four day tournament or a three
- 20:02Speaker 8: day tournament, So you got hotel, as he mentioned, you
- 20:04Speaker 8: got caddies, you.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Got everybody gotta get there.
- 20:06Speaker 8: You gotta feed yourself, so like it's gonna be on
- 20:09Speaker 8: an average of like I think, like seventeen hundred every
- 20:12Speaker 8: week to kind of keep moving around for just expenses.
- 20:15Speaker 8: And then sometimes like these tournaments, if you win, you
- 20:18Speaker 8: only getting two thousand dollars, right, or you make a
- 20:20Speaker 8: win and it only be like a thousand dollars, you
- 20:22Speaker 8: know what I mean. Sometimes it's a bigger pot, you know,
- 20:24Speaker 8: where you can get up to like thirty forty thousand,
- 20:26Speaker 8: but it's definitely every week, you know, you got to
- 20:29Speaker 8: spend that money, and it's at least you know, I
- 20:31Speaker 8: would say fifteen hundred to two thousand for every mini
- 20:34Speaker 8: tour event.
- 20:36Speaker 9: Yeah, So got to a point just couldn't afford it anymore.
- 20:39Speaker 9: So I had to, you know, start my career. So
- 20:42Speaker 9: I was basically I was in sales for a little bit,
- 20:44Speaker 9: but found my calling in a commercial finance. So I
- 20:47Speaker 9: was in commercial finance, vehicle finance for eight years. Was
- 20:52Speaker 9: about to become VP at a finance firm out of
- 20:54Speaker 9: San Diego, California.
- 20:56Speaker 3: And I got home.
- 20:58Speaker 9: One day and I was just like bro the same,
- 21:00Speaker 9: like I fully sued it, you know, just got off
- 21:02Speaker 9: the plane, I'm like, prauh the saint it. I want
- 21:04Speaker 9: to play golf, like I feel like I still got
- 21:06Speaker 9: a shot. And so it was already hard to find sponsors.
- 21:11Speaker 9: I already knew that. So I was just like, you
- 21:13Speaker 9: know what, first things first, let's make a logo. Let
- 21:15Speaker 9: me just make a logo. So the logo that you
- 21:17Speaker 9: guys saw, you know, jeans, sweatshirt, Cubu link chain, it
- 21:20Speaker 9: was just supposed to be me. And I was just
- 21:22Speaker 9: going to put it on my poloup and put it
- 21:24Speaker 9: on my bag. And then one thing led to another.
- 21:27Speaker 9: I showed it to him. He was like, yo, bro,
- 21:28Speaker 9: just put down a T shirt real quick.
- 21:30Speaker 3: So I did.
- 21:31Speaker 9: And I've always been in a fashion but never really
- 21:33Speaker 9: took it serious and sneakers. Just never really took it
- 21:36Speaker 9: serious on my own, but ended up making the logo.
- 21:40Speaker 9: Took a guilded T shirt. It maybe cost me twenty bucks,
- 21:43Speaker 9: ironed it on. I went downtown Detroit and I maybe
- 21:47Speaker 9: got stopped fifty times. You know what I'm saying, like,
- 21:49Speaker 9: who are you? What's that logo? Where can I get
- 21:52Speaker 9: it from? And do you play golf? You know what
- 21:54Speaker 9: I'm saying? And they were I mean it was just
- 21:56Speaker 9: it was crazy. It was crazy. Got back home, told him, bro,
- 22:00Speaker 9: I definitely got something like I don't know what, but
- 22:03Speaker 9: I'm gonna do something with He was just like, all right, well,
- 22:06Speaker 9: keep doing your thing. He was doing his own thing
- 22:08Speaker 9: in Delaware, working for the mayor. But it got to
- 22:12Speaker 9: a point I was just like, okay, well let me
- 22:13Speaker 9: make T shirts, sweatshirts, hats, socks, and like little other accessories.
- 22:19Speaker 9: You know what I'm saying, not knowing, not really not
- 22:22Speaker 9: what I'm doing, you know what I'm saying, but selling
- 22:24Speaker 9: everything out of my apartment. I made custom boxes thank
- 22:28Speaker 9: you cards, and I wrote the first fifteen hundred myself,
- 22:32Speaker 9: you know what I'm saying, and put that in every box.
- 22:34Speaker 9: But yeah, it got to a point I was just like,
- 22:37Speaker 9: all right, well let's just see how far we can go.
- 22:40Speaker 9: And started the company east Side Golf, LLC. June twenty
- 22:43Speaker 9: nineteen and then started selling clothes.
- 22:46Speaker 3: And how I did that was I.
- 22:48Speaker 9: Just honestly found the most expensive pieces that I could
- 22:51Speaker 9: find and put our logo on that embroidery Chanelle patches,
- 22:55Speaker 9: but the most expensive. I know a lot of people
- 22:57Speaker 9: try to go the cheapest, but I wanted it high
- 22:59Speaker 9: quality because I wanted people to wear it, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 9: and I know how I feel about, you know, cheap stuff.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I wouldn't want to wear it.
- 23:05Speaker 9: So end up finding the highest quality end up from
- 23:09Speaker 9: November twenty nineteen to February twenty twenty, selling you out
- 23:13Speaker 9: about five times, you know. And it's just me, you know.
- 23:17Speaker 9: And I mean it was tough, but I knew I
- 23:19Speaker 9: had something, so kept pushing it, kept pushing it, and
- 23:22Speaker 9: then I told him, yo, bro, let's like go down
- 23:25Speaker 9: in the PGA, PGA show.
- 23:27Speaker 3: PGA show is it's.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Like the Magic Show for fashion, right yeah?
- 23:30Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, but for golf in the golf world, golf world.
- 23:34Speaker 9: But I mean, all in all, I was what I
- 23:38Speaker 9: was trying to do was pay for my way, my
- 23:40Speaker 9: own way to play golf. Instead of asking for a
- 23:45Speaker 9: sponsor in golf or as an athlete, why not asks
- 23:48Speaker 9: a sponsor to invest in a company, So take the
- 23:50Speaker 9: entrepreneurial route. That's all I was saying. I know how
- 23:53Speaker 9: to run a company. I mean, that's what I did
- 23:55Speaker 9: in commercial finance. I help truck drivers start their own businesses,
- 23:59Speaker 9: owner operators, bother trucks, see what type of trucks they
- 24:02Speaker 9: want what commodity at hauling and what's best for their company.
- 24:05Speaker 3: You know.
- 24:06Speaker 9: So it's like if I'm starting, if I'm helping all
- 24:08Speaker 9: these businesses or helping all these people start the wrong, well,
- 24:11Speaker 9: I start my own.
- 24:12Speaker 3: I know how to do it and closes a little.
- 24:14Speaker 9: Bit more simple, you know than you know, going out
- 24:17Speaker 9: on the road and handling that whole non so, but yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 9: that's yeah.
- 24:21Speaker 2: So when y'all get to the PGA show, this isn't
- 24:23Speaker 2: is it it Orlando? Yeah, it's in Orlando. So I'm
- 24:26Speaker 2: gonna imagine there's probably a bunch of people that don't
- 24:30Speaker 2: look like you. You got the gold chain on the shirt.
- 24:33Speaker 2: What's the feeling as you're walking through to see if people,
- 24:35Speaker 2: what's the reaction to you and what are your thoughts
- 24:37Speaker 2: as you're walking through this crowd?
- 24:38Speaker 8: Yeah, So, I mean, you know, my career, I was
- 24:41Speaker 8: deep in golf. So you know, I was one of
- 24:43Speaker 8: the first African American golf pros at Detroit Golf Club
- 24:46Speaker 8: and at Wilmington Country Club, so like back home in Delaware.
- 24:49Speaker 8: And in twenty sixteen, I was named one of the best
- 24:52Speaker 8: young teachers in America, and I actually left and took
- 24:54Speaker 8: a job in the Mayor's office. So like around this
- 24:56Speaker 8: time when he's telling me about this, in my head,
- 24:57Speaker 8: I'm just like, I'm kind of over golf, like you know,
- 25:00Speaker 8: far as like being boxed in. I'm like, man, they
- 25:02Speaker 8: don't allow you to be creative. So I was kind of,
- 25:04Speaker 8: just like you said, doing my own thing. But he
- 25:07Speaker 8: was like, nah, we gotta go to the PGA show,
- 25:09Speaker 8: and I'm like, man, I don't feel like going, Like
- 25:11Speaker 8: I'm it's gonna be a waste of time. And like
- 25:13Speaker 8: when we got down there, I really got to experience
- 25:16Speaker 8: the same thing that he got to experience in Detroit.
- 25:19Speaker 8: Like you said, I mean, we're the minority there. It's
- 25:21Speaker 8: you know, people from all over the world, but it's
- 25:24Speaker 8: obviously majority white, and you're walking around at the PGA
- 25:29Speaker 8: demo day and people are just stopping us. Honestly, it
- 25:31Speaker 8: was almost like we were rock stars in the sense
- 25:33Speaker 8: because it was like what, Like he said, who are you?
- 25:36Speaker 8: What's that logo? How do I get it? Like that's
- 25:38Speaker 8: gonna that's the constant reaction that white white people.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Yes, did you feel it was sincere or yeah?
- 25:44Speaker 8: Like I felt like it was one of those things
- 25:45Speaker 8: where it was like, yo, finally, like having worked inside
- 25:49Speaker 8: of the business, like it's typically golf is white shoes,
- 25:53Speaker 8: khaki pants and a polo. Everybody looks the same, everybody's
- 25:56Speaker 8: carbon copy. Like that's all the options that you have,
- 25:59Speaker 8: Like you going too a golf shop now, it's all
- 26:01Speaker 8: pretty much going to be the same.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Like it's not.
- 26:03Speaker 8: Even an option for you to like if you even
- 26:06Speaker 8: if you enjoy golf, they don't give you an option
- 26:08Speaker 8: to even be creative, if that makes sense, right, And so.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I think the changing the color of your shirt is
- 26:13Speaker 2: like the biggest you can do.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Right exactly everything is still exactly the same.
- 26:17Speaker 8: And so like walking around and having been in the business,
- 26:20Speaker 8: it was just like for me because I've been to
- 26:22Speaker 8: the PGA show countless times, Like like I said, I
- 26:26Speaker 8: was kind of just over and had experience at all,
- 26:28Speaker 8: but this was like, damn, this is different. And so
- 26:31Speaker 8: we end up like networking, getting a bunch of business
- 26:34Speaker 8: cards and you know, like you said, the Game of Golf,
- 26:36Speaker 8: you learn how to network and got a bunch of
- 26:39Speaker 8: cards and literally just followed up with everybody, sent them
- 26:41Speaker 8: all emails. We get an email back from a brand
- 26:44Speaker 8: in Japan or a boutique in Japan called Clubhouse Supply
- 26:49Speaker 8: and they're in Osaki, Japan, and they like, yo, we'll
- 26:52Speaker 8: take a chance on you. We'll take thirty five sweatshirts.
- 26:55Speaker 8: We sent them thirty five sweatshirts. They once they get them,
- 26:59Speaker 8: they sell out twenty four hours in Japan and Japan.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Ok.
- 27:02Speaker 8: They were the first company to take a chance on us.
- 27:05Speaker 8: Then they're like, yo, they call us, like, man, we
- 27:08Speaker 8: ain't never seen nothing sell this fast. Yo, here's a
- 27:11Speaker 8: ten thousand dollars po how quickly can you get them
- 27:13Speaker 8: to us? But then you got to understand, now, this
- 27:14Speaker 8: is like Maya twenty twenty, so it's like pandemic, like
- 27:17Speaker 8: it's here.
- 27:18Speaker 3: So we're like, all right, so.
- 27:20Speaker 8: We I think we had enough inventory to I think
- 27:22Speaker 8: we fulfilled that order. We had enough inventory to fill
- 27:25Speaker 8: that order. Things are starting to pa where you're getting
- 27:27Speaker 8: emerged from Oakland, California, like just making it like you
- 27:31Speaker 8: gotta no, no, no.
- 27:32Speaker 5: We had a house.
- 27:33Speaker 8: Well he was already he had alreadyd the relationship, so
- 27:35Speaker 8: he had been we've been dealing with the same folks
- 27:38Speaker 8: that he was dealing with.
- 27:39Speaker 3: They were based in Oakland.
- 27:40Speaker 5: California, American Warehouse.
- 27:43Speaker 8: Yeah, so they were getting the patches I think overseas
- 27:45Speaker 8: and then putting it on like you know, a sweater,
- 27:47Speaker 8: and and.
- 27:48Speaker 5: You just funded us out of your own pocket and
- 27:50Speaker 5: took a loan on.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Yeah, so this was out of my own pocket.
- 27:53Speaker 9: Depleted the four one k, sold the bitcoin, you know
- 27:57Speaker 9: what I'm saying, and depleted the same.
- 28:00Speaker 5: How much did you sell bigcoin when you when you
- 28:02Speaker 5: had a bitcoin? How much did you sell it for?
- 28:05Speaker 9: I didn't have that much, but I maybe got about
- 28:07Speaker 9: six grand from it, Okay, you know what I'm saying.
- 28:09Speaker 10: So it was just below I would it was.
- 28:12Speaker 9: It was definitely half I would say, half of a
- 28:15Speaker 9: big coin.
- 28:16Speaker 2: So it wasn't part of it, yeah, because I'm thinking
- 28:18Speaker 2: at the time, and it wasn't. You weren't part of
- 28:20Speaker 2: that run up to sixty thousand.
- 28:21Speaker 10: No, not at all. I got out way before that.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Sorry to hear that.
- 28:28Speaker 5: Another investment, right right, it's all right. So, so so
- 28:32Speaker 5: you had ten thousand work for inventory? Yeah, so we
- 28:35Speaker 5: had ten thousand worth of inventory to fulfill that order.
- 28:37Speaker 5: We filled that order, and at this.
- 28:39Speaker 8: Time, like I said, it was kind of like it
- 28:42Speaker 8: was still moving like so people getting a product, but
- 28:44Speaker 8: the infrastructure necessarily wasn't in place, and then we end
- 28:48Speaker 8: up getting an article in ESPN. He knew someone, so
- 28:51Speaker 8: he did an article on us, because oh so at
- 28:53Speaker 8: this time, this is like may so George Floyd.
- 28:57Speaker 3: That just happened like in that that window. And we
- 29:00Speaker 3: end up doing.
- 29:02Speaker 8: A video challenging the PGA of America, which is separate
- 29:05Speaker 8: from the PGA Tour, because the PGA Tour kind of
- 29:08Speaker 8: came out and had a statement about black lives matter,
- 29:10Speaker 8: but the PGA of America didn't, and so we kind
- 29:14Speaker 8: of like we put a video out just kind of
- 29:16Speaker 8: challenging them the same way that Patrick Mahone did with
- 29:18Speaker 8: the NFL. So we got a bunch of diverse groups
- 29:20Speaker 8: of industry leaders within the PGA basically saying who you
- 29:23Speaker 8: are and black lives matter, and we just tagged the PGA.
- 29:26Speaker 8: So basically the joint went viral. We posted it and
- 29:28Speaker 8: then we got their attention and then that kind of
- 29:30Speaker 8: spread it as well. And that really wasn't about like
- 29:33Speaker 8: necessarily promoting our brand. It was just more about, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 8: y'all need to make a stance, like y'all gotta come
- 29:37Speaker 8: out and say something. And so ESPN hits and then
- 29:42Speaker 8: this is when things started really start to pick up
- 29:44Speaker 8: for us. So ESPN hits CJ Paul and Chris Paul
- 29:49Speaker 8: reach out and that's his brother CJ. And he like
- 29:53Speaker 8: reached out and was like, yo, I love what y'all doing,
- 29:55Speaker 8: just through DMS because you also got to remember, like
- 29:58Speaker 8: right now Instagram is popping, so like there's no content
- 30:01Speaker 8: out on TV. We started doing Instagram lives like because
- 30:04Speaker 8: everybody's in the crib. Everybody's is when everyone was on live,
- 30:07Speaker 8: and so we did that. CJ reaches out and he's like, yo,
- 30:10Speaker 8: I love what y'all doing. Me and my brother actually
- 30:12Speaker 8: play golf. We want two of everything, and if y'all
- 30:16Speaker 8: got more, we're gonna give the people in the bubble
- 30:18Speaker 8: and we will and we're gonna pay for everything.
- 30:19Speaker 3: We're like what.
- 30:20Speaker 8: So we did that and then what really changed our
- 30:24Speaker 8: business forever was we were actually together in Wisconsin and
- 30:30Speaker 8: it was the night of the NBA boycott. So I
- 30:32Speaker 8: don't know if y'all a Memphis August.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Twenty four, it was the Bucks.
- 30:36Speaker 2: The Bucks were playing and decide and not yeaided to
- 30:39Speaker 2: play exactly.
- 30:40Speaker 8: So that day, you know, Chris Paul let me paint
- 30:43Speaker 8: the picture. Chris Paul is the president of the NBA
- 30:45Speaker 8: Players Association. He ended up doing the whole documentary. It's
- 30:48Speaker 8: called The Day When Sports Stood Steal. So he says,
- 30:51Speaker 8: like he's on his way to the to the to
- 30:54Speaker 8: the bubble, He's getting calls from bron and everybody like yo,
- 30:57Speaker 8: they not playing. So he's got to, you know, figure
- 30:59Speaker 8: out what gonna do. Well, when he gets off the bus,
- 31:02Speaker 8: he's got the gear on from head to toe.
- 31:04Speaker 3: He's got the door lows on, door low ones.
- 31:07Speaker 8: He's got our socks, our sweater and our hat and
- 31:11Speaker 8: he's wearing it and all cameras is on them. And
- 31:13Speaker 8: it just went bananas because you got to understand too.
- 31:17Speaker 8: Like I tell people, it wasn't just a sports story.
- 31:19Speaker 8: It became a national news story. So ABC, CBS, NBC,
- 31:24Speaker 8: everybody's not necessary a CNN promoting east Side golf. But
- 31:28Speaker 8: what they're saying is the NBA is not playing, and
- 31:30Speaker 8: Chris Paul is the president of the NBA Player Association.
- 31:32Speaker 3: What are they gonna do? What's going on? So they
- 31:35Speaker 3: keep showing this clip and sales are going through the roof,
- 31:40Speaker 3: through the roof.
- 31:41Speaker 8: We had to cut it off, but we end up
- 31:43Speaker 8: cutting it off stop because you got to talk about
- 31:47Speaker 8: that people.
- 31:48Speaker 5: It could be that could be a problem. It can
- 31:50Speaker 5: actually destroy your business act if you have the inventory
- 31:52Speaker 5: too much demand, not enough inventory, then people can plain
- 31:55Speaker 5: that they're not getting this stuff on time, and it's
- 31:57Speaker 5: a real hassle.
- 31:58Speaker 2: You see delays like six to nine.
- 32:00Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I was just gonna I mean what helped us,
- 32:05Speaker 9: honestly was the pandemic. You know, people were more patient.
- 32:08Speaker 9: You know what I'm saying. People would, yeah, I wait
- 32:11Speaker 9: three weeks for a sweater. I mean I ain't doing that,
- 32:13Speaker 9: you know. So yeah, I mean that's how we stood
- 32:17Speaker 9: up against that time. We definitely you know, two day
- 32:19Speaker 9: turnaround now as far as shipping, but I mean back
- 32:22Speaker 9: then it was.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it was. It got ugly though, I
- 32:24Speaker 3: mean it got ugly.
- 32:25Speaker 8: Like I mean people, well, I'm beyond Like we went
- 32:29Speaker 8: from I think you could get it, We could get
- 32:32Speaker 8: sweaters in like six weeks to like three months.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I mean we can say it now.
- 32:36Speaker 8: There were people that ordered in August and literally didn't
- 32:39Speaker 8: get it to like November December. Like he said, people
- 32:41Speaker 8: were patient. So like it was one of those things where, too,
- 32:45Speaker 8: what do we do so everything is on fire after
- 32:48Speaker 8: that moment, we actually people wanted to invest in that moment.
- 32:54Speaker 8: They're like, Yo, we see what you got going on,
- 32:56Speaker 8: and we weren't ready. So like one of the things
- 32:58Speaker 8: that we learned was we was like, all right, I'm
- 33:00Speaker 8: never forget in September, We're like, yo, we're literally gonna
- 33:02Speaker 8: put sold out on everything. Try to figure out how
- 33:05Speaker 8: to feel these orders. But we got to put the
- 33:06Speaker 8: infrastructure in. And then you're building a business. What I
- 33:09Speaker 8: mean by infrastructure is you got to get lawyers, you
- 33:12Speaker 8: got to get accountants, you got to make sure you
- 33:13Speaker 8: on all your IP like all of that stuff, because
- 33:16Speaker 8: you got to have an infrastructure.
- 33:18Speaker 3: To be able to even take investment, you know.
- 33:21Speaker 8: And so there were certain deals that we kind of
- 33:22Speaker 8: missed out on because we didn't have the infrastructure. People
- 33:25Speaker 8: were ready, they're like, hey, we want to do this
- 33:27Speaker 8: on a convertible note. We didn't know what a convertible
- 33:29Speaker 8: note was. And then we had like bad deals that
- 33:31Speaker 8: we were able to kind of get out of where
- 33:33Speaker 8: people said they were going to do certain things and
- 33:35Speaker 8: they didn't do it. So like investment decks because we
- 33:37Speaker 8: didn't know what we were doing in a sense, but
- 33:39Speaker 8: we just took that time to literally I would say
- 33:42Speaker 8: from September to January, all we did was just put
- 33:45Speaker 8: in an infrastructure, figure out fulfillment, figure out customer service,
- 33:48Speaker 8: figure out who we want to invest, who want to hire,
- 33:50Speaker 8: who we want to hire, and then we kind of
- 33:53Speaker 8: cut it back on. I would say, like in February,
- 33:56Speaker 8: we had an article in GQ and then we did
- 33:58Speaker 8: like you know, say, we did like fifty thousand in
- 34:01Speaker 8: one day, so we was like, damn, okay, it's a
- 34:04Speaker 8: business now. We were able to get all the orders
- 34:06Speaker 8: out and we were able to kind of flip it
- 34:08Speaker 8: back on. But it's I would say, like just anybody
- 34:10Speaker 8: that wants to build a business, Like to his point,
- 34:13Speaker 8: we were lucky enough because we built it during the
- 34:15Speaker 8: pandemic and people were patient. But you gotta gotta have
- 34:19Speaker 8: an infrastructure and you're not gonna be able to build it.
- 34:22Speaker 8: You need lawyers and you need accountants like those. That's
- 34:24Speaker 8: where it starts if you want to build a real
- 34:26Speaker 8: business and take investment in because people looking at you
- 34:29Speaker 8: niggam like, well we want to see these documents.
- 34:31Speaker 3: We want to see this documents, and you're like what, so.
- 34:33Speaker 8: You got to you know, learn all those things. I
- 34:35Speaker 8: call it YouTube University because it's all out there.
- 34:37Speaker 2: If you want it, we call it uyl University. Yeah, yeah,
- 34:40Speaker 2: for sure, but bigger than that. So you when you
- 34:43Speaker 2: put the business on freeze, how are we gaining income
- 34:46Speaker 2: or did we say, you know what, we're going to
- 34:48Speaker 2: use our finance background, say we're going to stack some
- 34:50Speaker 2: paper so that we can sustain this. Are we doing
- 34:53Speaker 2: other things? Because I know you were at a bank
- 34:54Speaker 2: for a certain point during this time. What are we
- 34:56Speaker 2: doing while we putting the company on freeze?
- 34:58Speaker 10: Honestly, I mean I was. He wasn't getting paid.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't get paid for a whole year. I
- 35:03Speaker 3: was working for a whole year. Sweat equity.
- 35:05Speaker 4: Sweat equity I love.
- 35:06Speaker 10: Yeah, and he owns part of the business, now you
- 35:08Speaker 10: know what I'm saying.
- 35:09Speaker 3: So it was.
- 35:12Speaker 9: I mean I was the one, you know, using the
- 35:14Speaker 9: bread to pay for my rent, pay for my food,
- 35:16Speaker 9: anything that I needed, but then also anything that he needed.
- 35:20Speaker 9: If he needed me, he just hit me. And we
- 35:22Speaker 9: get it, we get it. But I mean it was tough.
- 35:25Speaker 10: You know, I was borrowing money from here, trying to
- 35:27Speaker 10: get money from here.
- 35:27Speaker 9: And it was a bunch of nose, A bunch of nose,
- 35:30Speaker 9: but you know, just keep going using it.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Back to p.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 35:37Speaker 8: It was really inspired too by like Nipsey during that time,
- 35:40Speaker 8: like just all money in like we literally went all
- 35:43Speaker 8: money and like we knew it was something special. We
- 35:45Speaker 8: just kind of like, and I feel like a lot
- 35:47Speaker 8: of people have been there before. It's like you know
- 35:50Speaker 8: you got something, you know it's coming. It's almost like
- 35:53Speaker 8: you're waiting on a big check and it's just like,
- 35:56Speaker 8: how do you just limit that debt before you get
- 35:59Speaker 8: the big check because a lot of times you get
- 36:01Speaker 8: that so high. By the time you get the big check,
- 36:03Speaker 8: you back at zero. So it was just one of
- 36:04Speaker 8: those things where what we did was we knew that
- 36:07Speaker 8: we didn't want to give up a bunch of equity,
- 36:09Speaker 8: so it was just like we just kept figuring out
- 36:11Speaker 8: ways of reaching our own pocket. Like that's like you said,
- 36:13Speaker 8: didn't take anything from the business, because it was more
- 36:15Speaker 8: important about the business standing up once you got the
- 36:18Speaker 8: infrastructure in place. And that's why when we actually cut
- 36:21Speaker 8: it on, it was like, Okay, it was worth the sacrifice. Now,
- 36:24Speaker 8: like okay, boom, can we can run.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Now, let's go.
- 36:27Speaker 9: And we weren't and sorry, we weren't paying any money
- 36:30Speaker 9: on marketing. I mean, we still haven't paid any money
- 36:33Speaker 9: on marketing. And it's all been me, me being on
- 36:36Speaker 9: the phone, just finding things that match between what we
- 36:39Speaker 9: talk about, things to talk about on the golf course,
- 36:41Speaker 9: things that y'all talk about. Me and y'all put y'all
- 36:44Speaker 9: on there a couple of times, just from a standpoint
- 36:46Speaker 9: of these are the things that we talk about on
- 36:48Speaker 9: the golf course, you know what I'm saying. These are
- 36:50Speaker 9: the things that we have in common with. I mean,
- 36:52Speaker 9: we're regular folks just like everybody else that don't play.
- 36:54Speaker 9: That's why you should come out here and just try it,
- 36:56Speaker 9: you know, spreading network, you know what I'm saying. And
- 36:59Speaker 9: I mean it grew from there just us being in
- 37:04Speaker 9: tune with our customers. You just through through Instagram and
- 37:08Speaker 9: that's how we grew it and kept their attention.
- 37:11Speaker 5: You spoke about convertible note. You didn't know what that was.
- 37:13Speaker 5: What do you know what?
- 37:14Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 37:15Speaker 3: I know what it is now, yeah, yeah, part of
- 37:17Speaker 3: the learning process.
- 37:19Speaker 8: Now we're raising money right now. So we went out
- 37:21Speaker 8: and raised some capital. We raised it on a safe note.
- 37:23Speaker 8: You know why combinator, essentially you.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Can you explain what it convertible note is.
- 37:26Speaker 8: Yeah, So for convertible note is essentially you will receive
- 37:31Speaker 8: cash right now based on what you think. Well, basically,
- 37:35Speaker 8: you receive cash, and it will the note will mature
- 37:38Speaker 8: into equity essentially, that's the simple term of it. So
- 37:41Speaker 8: you give me one hundred thousand right now and you
- 37:44Speaker 8: essentially it's just a note, so you don't own any equity,
- 37:47Speaker 8: and then you could say in twelve months that one
- 37:50Speaker 8: hundred thousand will then convert into equity. So at that
- 37:53Speaker 8: twelve month period, if it's if our business is valued
- 37:56Speaker 8: that a million dollars, that one hundred thousand is worth
- 37:58Speaker 8: ten percent of our company, so it converts. Now the
- 38:01Speaker 8: good good thing about a convertible note, you could also say, hey,
- 38:04Speaker 8: you know what, let's say the company's value that two million.
- 38:07Speaker 8: I could just pay you back on your note and
- 38:09Speaker 8: give you interest so you don't have to receive equity.
- 38:12Speaker 5: But yeah, and then you said the investment deck, So
- 38:15Speaker 5: that's like the deck that you put together for investors. Yes, yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 5: and it has like all of the projective revenue in
- 38:21Speaker 5: and stuff like that.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:22Speaker 8: So we had projective revenue, and we didn't even necessarily
- 38:25Speaker 8: do that. What we did was we did it basically,
- 38:27Speaker 8: we simplified it because we did it on a safe note.
- 38:30Speaker 8: And then if anybody, I would definitely tell them go
- 38:32Speaker 8: look into what a safe note, y combinator. It really
- 38:34Speaker 8: makes it simple for any like founders that are out
- 38:37Speaker 8: there to kind of control your equity and your business.
- 38:40Speaker 3: And we made it really simple.
- 38:42Speaker 8: And then what we did was we put our strategy
- 38:43Speaker 8: in there essentially on what we were going to do
- 38:46Speaker 8: with the money in the third and fourth quarter. So
- 38:48Speaker 8: we raised money basically in the first and second quarter
- 38:50Speaker 8: of the year. Really second quarter is when we really
- 38:52Speaker 8: focused on raising money in capital, family and friends around
- 38:56Speaker 8: not a Series A. And then we essentially said when
- 38:58Speaker 8: that note matures, you know, how.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Did you figure out how much equity and you were
- 39:01Speaker 2: willing to give up? Is that something you too sat
- 39:03Speaker 2: down and said, right, we're comfortable at this number.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 39:07Speaker 9: It was more of a where do you think we
- 39:09Speaker 9: could thrive that, you know if we give I mean,
- 39:12Speaker 9: let's say, is for example one hundred percent. Let's say
- 39:16Speaker 9: we're trying to give away twenty percent of our business.
- 39:19Speaker 9: I mean we got to a point where we were
- 39:21Speaker 9: just like, I mean, it's twenty percent too much because
- 39:25Speaker 9: how much control do we want them to have? You know,
- 39:27Speaker 9: how much visibility or what is it that they want
- 39:33Speaker 9: from this?
- 39:33Speaker 10: You know what I'm saying, like and how much of
- 39:36Speaker 10: a stronghold and.
- 39:38Speaker 9: In the contract if it's if that percentage is high enough,
- 39:41Speaker 9: I mean, what they can actually do to our company,
- 39:44Speaker 9: you know, what they can control and what they can
- 39:46Speaker 9: say on what we do.
- 39:47Speaker 8: So but and I'll also say too, like just going
- 39:50Speaker 8: through the process, you you got to keep your business attractive,
- 39:53Speaker 8: so like most like and we had like a lot
- 39:55Speaker 8: of basically BC's and sharks come at us early, right,
- 39:58Speaker 8: and so they everyone's going to say, I only want
- 40:01Speaker 8: to invest in your business unless I can have basically
- 40:04Speaker 8: a strong percentage because I want to be invested in it.
- 40:07Speaker 8: But then it's like no, because if you do it
- 40:10Speaker 8: too early, you don't necessarily even give room for vcs
- 40:13Speaker 8: later with the big money so early.
- 40:17Speaker 2: This episode is brought to you by P and C Bank.

- 42:07Speaker 11: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 42:11Speaker 11: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 42:15Speaker 11: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 42:19Speaker 11: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 42:23Speaker 11: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 42:27Speaker 11: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 42:30Speaker 11: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 42:35Speaker 11: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 42:39Speaker 11: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 42:42Speaker 11: are here illegally, your next you will be fine nearly
- 42:46Speaker 11: one thousand dollars a day. Imprisoned and deported, you will
- 42:50Speaker 11: never return, but if you register using our CBP home
- 42:54Speaker 11: app and leave now, you could be allowed to return
- 42:57Speaker 11: legally do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump, America's laws,
- 43:02Speaker 11: border and families.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Will be protected sponsored by the United States Department of
- 43:06Speaker 2: Homeland Security.
- 43:07Speaker 8: Go, you really want to keep it as low as possible,
- 43:10Speaker 8: and you got to be very strategic with who you
- 43:12Speaker 8: invest with.
- 43:13Speaker 3: And that's what we did.
- 43:14Speaker 8: So like we went and necessarily got I would say,
- 43:17Speaker 8: like a quiet investor, someone that really knows to invest,
- 43:21Speaker 8: like not someone that's like, all right, if I give
- 43:23Speaker 8: you a hundred thousand, I'm gonna need it back in
- 43:24Speaker 8: six months or I'm gonna need it back in a year. No,
- 43:26Speaker 8: it's an investment. Let this investment mature over time. So
- 43:30Speaker 8: that was one of the things that I think we did.
- 43:32Speaker 8: And then being strategic, so like if we had one
- 43:34Speaker 8: person in this area, if we had a lawyer to invest,
- 43:37Speaker 8: I e.
- 43:38Speaker 3: An example, like we.
- 43:39Speaker 8: Didn't need to go get another lawyer to invest. Let's
- 43:41Speaker 8: go get an accountant to invest, Let's go get another
- 43:44Speaker 8: you know, just different fields because now you can leverage
- 43:48Speaker 8: them as well because they're invested in your business. So
- 43:50Speaker 8: we kind of diversified I would say, our investor. And
- 43:54Speaker 8: then we also were just really conscious of like, and
- 43:57Speaker 8: I'll say this, like one of the deals that we did,
- 43:59Speaker 8: we were able to get out like two deals basically
- 44:01Speaker 8: to get us where we are to that and one
- 44:04Speaker 8: of them was I would feel like they didn't understand
- 44:09Speaker 8: what we were trying to do.
- 44:10Speaker 3: It was kind of like a lack of knowledge.
- 44:12Speaker 8: So we basically was like, yo, come down on equity
- 44:15Speaker 8: so we can make somebody else fit so that the
- 44:17Speaker 8: business is still attractive in the future.
- 44:19Speaker 3: And they're like, huh, what you want to come down?
- 44:21Speaker 8: I was like, no, we got to do this because
- 44:23Speaker 8: if we give up kind of what he was saying,
- 44:25Speaker 8: the line's share of our business too early, it leaves
- 44:28Speaker 8: no room later on. And so we were able to
- 44:31Speaker 8: honestly get out of that deal.
- 44:32Speaker 3: But we were able.
- 44:33Speaker 8: I would say one of the best deals we did
- 44:34Speaker 8: was we partner up with our manufacturing partner right now
- 44:37Speaker 8: and get terms. Because everyone says cash flow, cash flow,
- 44:41Speaker 8: cash flow, but I truly understand what cash flow means
- 44:44Speaker 8: because you'll lock up your cash if you got bad terms.
- 44:48Speaker 8: And an example would be when we first started a business,
- 44:51Speaker 8: we were paying fifty percent on an order up front,
- 44:54Speaker 8: and then it takes what ninety days for it to
- 44:56Speaker 8: get produced, and then you gotta sell it, so you
- 44:59Speaker 8: really want to.
- 45:00Speaker 3: You got one hundred and twenty days.
- 45:01Speaker 8: Let's say you put up one hundred grand on inventory,
- 45:03Speaker 8: you got one hundred and twenty days without and it's
- 45:05Speaker 8: still locked up and you still got bills every month.
- 45:08Speaker 8: But now we were able to get to the point
- 45:10Speaker 8: where we got better terms. So now we could place
- 45:14Speaker 8: an order ninety days to produce it. Once you receive it,
- 45:17Speaker 8: we got a net thirty, So now you got that
- 45:20Speaker 8: that cash.
- 45:23Speaker 2: We just had about net thirty.
- 45:28Speaker 5: People hear net thirty, forty fifty, net sixty. They don't
- 45:30Speaker 5: know what that is.
- 45:31Speaker 2: That's something we learned very very early.
- 45:34Speaker 8: No, net thirty isn't basically, it's it's when you have Okay,
- 45:39Speaker 8: the person is saying, from this day, you have thirty
- 45:43Speaker 8: days to pay me or forty five days to pay me,
- 45:46Speaker 8: but you get to receive the services on the front end.
- 45:48Speaker 8: So that's the thing, Like you get the goods on
- 45:50Speaker 8: the front end, where before we was paying for the
- 45:52Speaker 8: we had to put fifty percent up front. And this
- 45:54Speaker 8: is why people say credit is so important because you
- 45:57Speaker 8: can't get these type of deals unless you have good credit.
- 46:00Speaker 8: So we were playing fifty percent up front, fifty percent
- 46:03Speaker 8: on the arrival, and then it was just all on us,
- 46:05Speaker 8: where now we can place an order no money up,
- 46:08Speaker 8: receive it no money up, and then once we start
- 46:12Speaker 8: in a sense getting money with that NET thirty, then
- 46:15Speaker 8: you can pay them back.
- 46:16Speaker 5: You know, that's something that you know, all of this
- 46:17Speaker 5: stuff and stuff that we learn on the fly, So
- 46:20Speaker 5: at least we did learn on the fly, and it's
- 46:22Speaker 5: like learning the language is extremely important. So for us,
- 46:25Speaker 5: we've been on the opposite side of that as far
- 46:27Speaker 5: as like, you know, if we have an ad. Let's
- 46:29Speaker 5: say Joe blows you know, grass company, grass cutting company
- 46:34Speaker 5: wants to do an ad and then they have like
- 46:36Speaker 5: NET forty five or NET thirty, So we do the ad,
- 46:39Speaker 5: but then they don't pay till thirty days or forty
- 46:42Speaker 5: five days later. So it's important to understand that because
- 46:45Speaker 5: it's like if you do an AD or somebody, you
- 46:47Speaker 5: think you're gonna get paid tomorrow and then you're waiting
- 46:49Speaker 5: on the money and then it's like where's the money.
- 46:51Speaker 5: It doesn't come until too.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Much from there, it goes back to your point of
- 46:56Speaker 2: why having an accountant is super important, We'll have like
- 46:59Speaker 2: six sads in that time, and you're like, wait, did
- 47:01Speaker 2: we get paid for the last one?
- 47:02Speaker 3: Wait?
- 47:03Speaker 2: We used to start going. I remember when we first
- 47:05Speaker 2: started our YouTube and we had some views and I'm like, wait,
- 47:08Speaker 2: we made eighty three dollars and I'm calling Google. I'm like, look, man,
- 47:11Speaker 2: when we getting this eighty three dollars? It's that thirty guys.
- 47:14Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, okay, I knew that. I wait on
- 47:17Speaker 2: it right.
- 47:18Speaker 8: And I also say, like too, to your point, it's
- 47:21Speaker 8: just a stigma, like you said earlier, like we don't
- 47:23Speaker 8: know knowledge, and that's why credit is so important in debt,
- 47:25Speaker 8: Like it's okay to use good business credit and so
- 47:29Speaker 8: you don't tie up your cash, you know what I mean.
- 47:31Speaker 8: You just got to be smart about it to know.
- 47:33Speaker 8: But like that's what I was saying earlier, where like
- 47:36Speaker 8: you give up so much. When you finally do get
- 47:38Speaker 8: the income, you don't have nothing left because you had
- 47:41Speaker 8: all these bad terms where like literally, okay, yeah you
- 47:44Speaker 8: did fifty thousand, but you're still old eighty because and
- 47:46Speaker 8: you behind and now they charge you interests and all
- 47:49Speaker 8: of that. So all of that stuff is very very important.
- 47:51Speaker 8: Like you said, man, we learned it on the fly,
- 47:54Speaker 8: like you just gotta what was that book we man,
- 47:57Speaker 8: my man from light Ship Capital. It was called Venture Something.
- 48:01Speaker 8: I wish I knew the title of.
- 48:02Speaker 3: It, but it was what you're talking about.
- 48:03Speaker 8: It was a really good book and it really really
- 48:05Speaker 8: broke down like how venture capitalists think and what are
- 48:08Speaker 8: some of the most important things that you need to
- 48:11Speaker 8: do to kind of get to where we are today.
- 48:13Speaker 3: Because it was definitely learning, Like.
- 48:15Speaker 8: We definitely learned got a lot of good people, getting
- 48:18Speaker 8: the right help around you.
- 48:18Speaker 3: That's just like anything else. And now you know we're
- 48:21Speaker 3: rocking and rolling.
- 48:22Speaker 8: We got our COO definitely needs somebody that like knows
- 48:25Speaker 8: the business. That was one of the important things, and
- 48:27Speaker 8: then start putting people in position so he has a
- 48:30Speaker 8: role in the company. I have a role in the company.
- 48:32Speaker 8: Our CEO has a role in the company. Like everybody
- 48:35Speaker 8: kind of like playing that role. Everybody still does everything,
- 48:38Speaker 8: but it's still kind of like you want to work
- 48:40Speaker 8: towards truly like putting you know, people in the right
- 48:43Speaker 8: position to be successful.
- 48:45Speaker 5: Very important. Okay, so how did this deal.
- 48:48Speaker 10: With Jordan come up?
- 48:49Speaker 3: About I was. Yeah.
- 48:51Speaker 9: So, I mean from all the marketing that we did,
- 48:54Speaker 9: there came a point where actually CJ.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Paul reached out.
- 48:58Speaker 2: In my mind, I'm thinking like se J pull I
- 49:00Speaker 2: know it was a c C. Bath Yeah, Jordan all
- 49:05Speaker 2: around this.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so CJ.
- 49:09Speaker 9: He definitely asked about two of everything, like Earl said,
- 49:13Speaker 9: you know, uh, and then more to give to people
- 49:16Speaker 9: in the bubble.
- 49:17Speaker 5: But so we tour two of everything exactly to you
- 49:20Speaker 5: had the polo shirts. Obviously, what exactly are they asked
- 49:23Speaker 5: him for to of every like what time?
- 49:25Speaker 9: It was just yeah, at that time it was T shirts, sweatshirts, hats, socks,
- 49:29Speaker 9: and like some magnet lapels.
- 49:33Speaker 8: Just like four items. It wasn't nothing too crazy. We
- 49:36Speaker 8: didn't even have polos. And that's the other thing I
- 49:38Speaker 8: want to say to just real just to chime in.
- 49:39Speaker 3: It's like.
- 49:42Speaker 8: We started a golf brand and we didn't even have polos, right,
- 49:45Speaker 8: it was just the logo. And then like I got
- 49:48Speaker 8: to give oh a lot of credit because he don't rush,
- 49:50Speaker 8: like he said, he want quality on everything, so it's
- 49:53Speaker 8: like doing it the right way. He could have easily
- 49:56Speaker 8: rushed and like, oh we had god brand, let's just
- 49:57Speaker 8: slap some polos together. It was like, nah, I want
- 50:00Speaker 8: them polos to be right.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and you're the actual logo right.
- 50:04Speaker 9: Yeah, so yeah on a shoe, man, that's crazy.
- 50:08Speaker 10: But yeah, man, so going from there, well.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Where else not just the hold like CJ like Gentry
- 50:16Speaker 3: and yeah yeah yeah.
- 50:17Speaker 9: So CJ came on and he was just like, yeah,
- 50:20Speaker 9: I definitely want to introduce you guys a Gentry Humphrey.
- 50:22Speaker 9: He's a VP over in Nike, I guess not I
- 50:25Speaker 9: guess the god of footwear or bringing sneakers back in Nike.
- 50:30Speaker 10: That's what they know him for. But we went out
- 50:33Speaker 10: to go play golf with him.
- 50:34Speaker 9: Well first well first we got on the phone with
- 50:38Speaker 9: him and he liked this enough to where he got
- 50:41Speaker 9: on some on the phone with him J and so.
- 50:43Speaker 5: We had Michael Michael Jordan's what excuse me?
- 50:47Speaker 2: Can we not just plays over that you got on
- 50:49Speaker 2: the phone with Michael Jeffery Earl? Please please don't don't
- 50:56Speaker 2: bring over to Michael Jordan.
- 50:59Speaker 8: Yeah, so we end up So what happened. So this
- 51:02Speaker 8: is like August the twenty twenty. We talked to g
- 51:04Speaker 8: g'z like, yo, I love what y'all doing and this time,
- 51:07Speaker 8: he knew MJ was real big in the golf. Everybody knows,
- 51:10Speaker 8: well not everybody, but after the documentary everybody saw it.
- 51:13Speaker 3: So he flips it over the MJ like, yo, just take.
- 51:15Speaker 8: It, like Michael Jordan, Michael Michael Jeffrey, Michael Jeffrey Jordan, Sir,
- 51:19Speaker 8: just our deck.
- 51:19Speaker 2: I'm about to do that the J cole Michael Jeffrey Jordan.
- 51:24Speaker 8: Yes, he flips the deck over to him. He sees
- 51:28Speaker 8: it and he's like, yo, I love it. Like just
- 51:30Speaker 8: an email. We haven't spoken to him or nothing like that.
- 51:34Speaker 8: It's just kind of just like you know, somebody's like
- 51:36Speaker 8: we come to some of you, like I know, Envy.
- 51:38Speaker 8: I'll just I'm gonna see what he thinks, Like I
- 51:40Speaker 8: can't just walk you in the room just yet, like
- 51:43Speaker 8: let me test the waters. If he bites, then we'll
- 51:46Speaker 8: take it from there. So that's what happened. And then,
- 51:51Speaker 8: like he said, the moment came because these things kind
- 51:54Speaker 8: of started rolling and we still, like he said, we
- 51:56Speaker 8: market and we're still doing our thing and then we
- 51:59Speaker 8: end up. So it was funny because he's like all right, yo,
- 52:01Speaker 8: y'all ready, and we're like, what you mean He's like
- 52:04Speaker 8: Mike wanted, you know, y'all ready to talk to Mike,
- 52:06Speaker 8: like y'all gonna talk directly to him and kind of
- 52:08Speaker 8: pitch it like because you need to hear it from y'all,
- 52:11Speaker 8: like y'all passion the real story to be like.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we ready, we ready. And it was funny.
- 52:16Speaker 8: I always joke with people because I'm like, this is
- 52:18Speaker 8: the this is the first zoom call where like literally they.
- 52:20Speaker 3: Was like, yo, y'all need to be on there early.
- 52:23Speaker 8: Y'all got thirty minutes, like and it said, don't get
- 52:26Speaker 8: stars struck, don't be up up like he gonna come on,
- 52:30Speaker 8: y'all gotta be ready because there was other stuff he
- 52:31Speaker 8: had to do too, So it wasn't just like our meeting.
- 52:34Speaker 8: It was just like we found some time. He gonna
- 52:36Speaker 8: take out time out of his schedule and pitch it
- 52:38Speaker 8: to him, and we got on there. We pitched it
- 52:41Speaker 8: to him and I'll never forget like we did our
- 52:43Speaker 8: whole spill.
- 52:45Speaker 3: He was like, all.
- 52:46Speaker 8: Right, those are two great stories. We tell the best stories.
- 52:50Speaker 8: Did we sign them yet?
- 52:52Speaker 3: And they were like on the phone like uh yeah, yeah,
- 52:55Speaker 3: we were on it. Yeah.
- 52:58Speaker 8: So it was like it was like mj believe like
- 53:00Speaker 8: he he he immediately got in one of the things too,
- 53:03Speaker 8: like he loved golf. I don't know people know, like
- 53:05Speaker 8: at one point Michael Jordan literally got kicked off a
- 53:08Speaker 8: golf course for wearing cargo shorts, like in modern time,
- 53:11Speaker 8: like not low before he won championships. No, like this happened,
- 53:15Speaker 8: and I think in Miami and like oh six, don't
- 53:17Speaker 8: quote me on the date, but literally it was definitely
- 53:19Speaker 8: in the two thousand Michael Jordan got kicked off a
- 53:22Speaker 8: golf course and got basically said you can't come back
- 53:24Speaker 8: here because he had on cargo shorts.
- 53:27Speaker 3: So like I feel like that was a no.
- 53:28Speaker 8: Reason too why he created his own golf course and
- 53:30Speaker 8: he understood like y'all trying what y'all trying to break
- 53:33Speaker 8: and do, and like you know, it was just like
- 53:35Speaker 8: he's like yo, like I get it.
- 53:37Speaker 3: I get it.
- 53:37Speaker 9: And from them he has a golf course. Yeah, he
- 53:39Speaker 9: has his own golf course, Rove twenty three down in
- 53:42Speaker 9: Hope Sound, Florida.
- 53:43Speaker 5: In Florida.
- 53:44Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, we've been at this time right.
- 53:48Speaker 9: Next to JUPI to Florida. I mean he's not too
- 53:51Speaker 9: far from like Tiger Woods, live and you already.
- 53:53Speaker 5: Know have you had, Like how y'all communicated with him?
- 53:58Speaker 8: I mean I was, I've I've talked, We've talked about
- 54:01Speaker 8: we talked to him by it like three times. Oh
- 54:03Speaker 8: talk to him a couple of times without me just
- 54:05Speaker 8: being around.
- 54:05Speaker 5: So how is that? How is How is he?
- 54:07Speaker 2: Is he?
- 54:08Speaker 5: Because I always everybody always know he's the most competitive
- 54:10Speaker 5: person in the world. And he's real hard to you know,
- 54:13Speaker 5: on his teammates in that documentary thing like that, So
- 54:18Speaker 5: you know, not a lot of people will have access somebody.
- 54:20Speaker 3: He's real.
- 54:20Speaker 5: He seems like an introvert. Also, he's not really like
- 54:22Speaker 5: it's jay Z.
- 54:23Speaker 2: It's not.
- 54:24Speaker 5: You can't just not a lot of people speaking to
- 54:26Speaker 5: Michael Jordan's So I was, how is it? How is he?
- 54:28Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 54:28Speaker 9: I would say the first time we met him, it
- 54:31Speaker 9: was with G. We were out of the golf course.
- 54:33Speaker 9: We finished up on the eighteenth hole and G says, yeah, man,
- 54:36Speaker 9: these are my guys, and you know it's a large one.
- 54:39Speaker 9: He could really play me. First thing he asked me,
- 54:41Speaker 9: but would you shoot? I'm like, man, I shot like
- 54:43Speaker 9: seventies Man, Like, man, get out of here, man.
- 54:46Speaker 2: You know, really seventies a professional number for those not
- 54:50Speaker 2: in the know.
- 54:51Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, but no really competitive, nice guy. Let me
- 54:56Speaker 9: talk about basketball. But that was just the first time
- 54:58Speaker 9: that we met.
- 54:59Speaker 8: Yeah, so the first time and then like it was
- 55:00Speaker 8: kind of just real cashual breeze by kind of like
- 55:03Speaker 8: a thing like you know, like he acknowledged that he
- 55:05Speaker 8: like he definitely spoke, but.
- 55:07Speaker 3: It was kind of like all right, moving on.
- 55:10Speaker 8: But then I would say, like, so the one of
- 55:12Speaker 8: the times we get up there, probably the third time
- 55:15Speaker 8: we out there with c C.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Sabathian, who loves golf.
- 55:17Speaker 8: Like CC he retired, he playing golf every day, and
- 55:21Speaker 8: so Cec we go down there to the golf course
- 55:23Speaker 8: to grow twenty three. We go play nine holes. I'm like,
- 55:27Speaker 8: all I'm about to run back in or whatever. So
- 55:29Speaker 8: I go back into the golf shop and I'll never
- 55:32Speaker 8: forget this moment for the rest of my life.
- 55:34Speaker 3: So I walk in the joint and.
- 55:36Speaker 8: He's sitting down and he looks at me and he's like,
- 55:39Speaker 8: my boy, Like I'm thinking somebody behind me. I'm like,
- 55:43Speaker 8: there's no way Michael Jordan knows who I am.
- 55:47Speaker 3: And then he God gave me that Now like now
- 55:49Speaker 3: I'm talking to you like, you know, I'm talking to you,
- 55:51Speaker 3: like what's up. So I'm like, oh shit, Mike, you know.
- 55:53Speaker 8: So I walk over there and you know, I'm talking
- 55:57Speaker 8: to him. He just like really remember the depth. But
- 56:00Speaker 8: he said what's going on? Like, uh, where's Elijah one?
- 56:04Speaker 8: And I'm like, oh, he outside like with CC like
- 56:06Speaker 8: they on the tee or whatever. And then somebody next
- 56:08Speaker 8: to him he knew, uh oh knew him or whatever
- 56:11Speaker 8: he liked, so dude named Jesse.
- 56:12Speaker 3: So Jesse like a large one outside, so he get
- 56:14Speaker 3: up go talk to oh.
- 56:16Speaker 10: So then somebody else's table like, oh.
- 56:18Speaker 8: Man, look what you got on the feet. So I
- 56:20Speaker 8: had on like the US Open Jordan Fords. They was
- 56:23Speaker 8: like real exclusive, like the Federal d He was like, nah,
- 56:28Speaker 8: these were these a golf us the golf Yeah, yeah,
- 56:30Speaker 8: golf and he like he like, damn, I don't even
- 56:33Speaker 8: got those.
- 56:33Speaker 2: I'm like, you know what I mean, I don't want
- 56:36Speaker 2: to give up my plug, Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 56:38Speaker 8: Like so it was kind of like that awkwad moment
- 56:40Speaker 8: and then like we just started rapping. But I did
- 56:42Speaker 8: kind of I do tell people, I did kind of
- 56:44Speaker 8: have that moment where it was like all right, like
- 56:46Speaker 8: it was like frozen in time. I don't even remember
- 56:48Speaker 8: what the conversation was about. Like he just kind of like,
- 56:50Speaker 8: all right, you can move now.
- 56:51Speaker 3: Like like I was like stuck there. Like it was
- 56:53Speaker 3: like I was like all right, cool.
- 56:55Speaker 8: So then we end up going back out on the
- 56:58Speaker 8: tee and then we actually got a picture and we
- 57:00Speaker 8: got it definitely. It's on our Instagram and we gotta
- 57:03Speaker 8: put that up on the website too. But we ended
- 57:05Speaker 8: up taking a picture shortly after that with him, so
- 57:07Speaker 8: cc him and I kind of came back in and
- 57:10Speaker 8: then we just like busted up for a minute and
- 57:11Speaker 8: got to pick with him.
- 57:12Speaker 5: So all right, so you meet him your devaluation. He
- 57:15Speaker 5: likes it, so he signs you guys to Jordan Brand.
- 57:18Speaker 5: Is that how that happens.
- 57:20Speaker 9: So we're definitely still working on a partnership as far
- 57:23Speaker 9: when it comes to that. I would say actually the
- 57:27Speaker 9: day after that happened, actually he left and had to
- 57:31Speaker 9: go do some work, had to go do something, and
- 57:33Speaker 9: I stayed to practice. So got there maybe like eight
- 57:36Speaker 9: am and I'm hitting balls, you know, out on the
- 57:39Speaker 9: driver range, just practicing. He gets there like none you know,
- 57:42Speaker 9: yellow Ferrari pull up parking on the curve all outside.
- 57:45Speaker 3: Yes, course, this his course.
- 57:47Speaker 9: So he parking, get out, he wave, I'm like yo,
- 57:50Speaker 9: So goes inside, pray, probably tease off. In another fifteen minutes,
- 57:54Speaker 9: so waves again. So ends up playing non holes, makes
- 57:58Speaker 9: the turn. I'm still practicing, you know any way, like
- 58:01Speaker 9: I see you, you know. Then he ends up playing
- 58:04Speaker 9: another nine holes and they finished. I'm still practicing. Hour
- 58:07Speaker 9: goes by after he finishes. I finally finished. I come
- 58:10Speaker 9: inside my prolo drenched, you know what I'm saying, just
- 58:13Speaker 9: from being out there all day.
- 58:14Speaker 5: He got it.
- 58:15Speaker 9: I got in and he was like, okay, I see
- 58:17Speaker 9: you out there working. I see you out there working.
- 58:19Speaker 9: You know.
- 58:19Speaker 3: Get this man somes the Caro.
- 58:21Speaker 10: You know, because he owns your part of Sanchro.
- 58:24Speaker 9: So Drakes and Carol stood there for a couple of minutes,
- 58:27Speaker 9: ended up changing, had a flight to catch change, came back,
- 58:31Speaker 9: sat down. He was probably sent at the table with
- 58:34Speaker 9: a good four or five of the guys, and one
- 58:37Speaker 9: of the guys at the table just asked, yo, so
- 58:40Speaker 9: tell me a little bit about east side golfing. What
- 58:42Speaker 9: you guys are doing. I maybe talked for a good
- 58:45Speaker 9: minute and a half and MJ just cuts me off,
- 58:47Speaker 9: and he says, and that's why we're collabing with them,
- 58:50Speaker 9: you know. And I just explained, you know, who I was,
- 58:52Speaker 9: who Eorl was, and what we're trying to do and
- 58:55Speaker 9: trying to change and what we're actually bringing to the
- 58:57Speaker 9: game and.
- 58:57Speaker 3: How it was going to look different, and he was
- 58:59Speaker 3: just all with it, you know.
- 59:00Speaker 9: And then we end up drinking some corral together, smoked
- 59:03Speaker 9: a little cigar, you know, and.
- 59:05Speaker 5: So it was so the collaboration is still kind of
- 59:08Speaker 5: it's still it works, yeah, Like.
- 59:11Speaker 10: Well collaboration partnership.
- 59:13Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it's there, Like we definitely are partners
- 59:16Speaker 8: with the Jordan brand. Like it's definitely a partnership there.
- 59:20Speaker 3: We are.
- 59:22Speaker 8: What we're working on right now is just trying to
- 59:25Speaker 8: figure out, you know, for next year, like that's the
- 59:27Speaker 8: big thing. And like we got shoes and like record time.
- 59:30Speaker 8: So that's why like these first ones are super limited,
- 59:33Speaker 8: just because.
- 59:33Speaker 5: So what is that all right? What is actually to collaborate?
- 59:35Speaker 5: You guys took Jordan sneakers and made them golf shoes.
- 59:38Speaker 8: So no, they had golf shoes out. They have Star
- 59:40Speaker 8: already started coming out with Jordan sneakers. Yes, with the
- 59:46Speaker 8: cleats on and then they started like engineering them better
- 59:49Speaker 8: because initially it was just literally just like a sneakers.
- 59:54Speaker 8: They end up developing to where they're like, okay, they
- 59:57Speaker 8: started signing like athletes on the tours. So there's a
- 1:00:00Speaker 8: couple of guys on the PGA tour that wears on,
- 1:00:02Speaker 8: like Bubba Watson is one, Pat Perez, a black guy
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: by the name of Harold Varner who's out there. And
- 1:00:07Speaker 8: so like the engineering started to get behind it. So
- 1:00:10Speaker 8: the shoes started to become more and more popular, they
- 1:00:12Speaker 8: started making more and more of them, and then what
- 1:00:14Speaker 8: we came involved was we're the first ever Jordan golf
- 1:00:18Speaker 8: shoe collabor with a golf brand. So like they've kind
- 1:00:21Speaker 8: of created like custom shoes golf shoes before, but they've
- 1:00:23Speaker 8: never did a collaboration with any other golf brand. And
- 1:00:27Speaker 8: so like that's where our partnership lies, where it's like
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: this is the first ever, but we're excited because there's
- 1:00:32Speaker 8: more in the future.
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: So so so what exactly are you, Like what kind
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: of merchant did you collab on?
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: So right now, we just did the shoe.
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: The shit this one the shoe, and we did it
- 1:00:42Speaker 8: in record time, Like people gotta understand, like we did
- 1:00:44Speaker 8: it a shoe and literally, in like eight months, you
- 1:00:46Speaker 8: made your own shoe. So yeah, we had it's the
- 1:00:49Speaker 8: Jordan for it's the Jordan Ford. Yeah, but we designed
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: like the colors the Okay, so it's Jordan Ford, but
- 1:00:55Speaker 8: you put the spice on it. No, the spikes are
- 1:00:58Speaker 8: already on there. But what we did with spikes spice
- 1:01:03Speaker 8: your own drip to it.
- 1:01:03Speaker 9: Yes, yeah, So I mean I came up with the
- 1:01:06Speaker 9: design myself, and it was honestly, I came to ge
- 1:01:10Speaker 9: we went to go to breakfast, and I came up
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: with a deck. It was probably like six different shoes.
- 1:01:15Speaker 9: He came with a deck. It was maybe like four
- 1:01:17Speaker 9: or five different shoes. We sat them next week. Well
- 1:01:20Speaker 9: actually we just exchanged decks. I looked on it and
- 1:01:23Speaker 9: I was like, bro, it's the same shoe.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: So yeah, that's and I'm thinking to myself, like, y'all
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: both said we're doing the four because I would imagine
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: they wanted you to collaborate on a bunch of shoes.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: They gave you a bunch of the numbers, and you're like,
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: the four is the one you.
- 1:01:36Speaker 10: Usually when you collabed with Jordan, you don't have a.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: True telling you they already inline shoes and you get it.
- 1:01:42Speaker 9: Like yeah, so there's a certain time that let's say,
- 1:01:46Speaker 9: Nikes doing the coming out with the Jordan's eight at
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: this time, so you know, during June through October, and
- 1:01:52Speaker 9: were coming out.
- 1:01:53Speaker 10: With a Collapse through June through October.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: So we're gonna we're gonna be getting the eight.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: So it just yeah, yeah, you don't get this makes
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: sense now?
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: So now the Union four, Yeah, it's the year four.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: It's the year of the four. So the Union four
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: goes up there. If Dancee wanted to collaborate, he would
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: have a you have a four.
- 1:02:10Speaker 8: Yea, And like even don c said it, like you
- 1:02:13Speaker 8: take what they give you, like quote unquote, he didn't
- 1:02:15Speaker 8: necessarily want it to he killed the two kil still
- 1:02:19Speaker 8: one of the best tunes out there. But at the
- 1:02:21Speaker 8: end of the day, like you don't you don't get
- 1:02:23Speaker 8: to pick before it is or it is, and you
- 1:02:25Speaker 8: just kind of put your you put your style on
- 1:02:27Speaker 8: like he said, you put the spice on it. And
- 1:02:29Speaker 8: that's what we were able to do. But there's more coming.
- 1:02:31Speaker 8: Like so basically we was in line. We collab It
- 1:02:35Speaker 8: was dope and then just the reaction has been just
- 1:02:38Speaker 8: unbelievable to wait people, the buzz, it's.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: Just what's the first thing I said when y'all came
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: out the car, Yeah, that.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: We bring them? Yeah.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: How acceptive were they to you not having the Jordan
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: logo but the actual east Side golf logo on the
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: it's on the tongue, correct, it's on the top. They
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: was like, all right, we can do that.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: They were very accepted.
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: The cleat that logo on the tongue, the Jordan logo
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: on what the Jordan logo.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: Is, Yes, yeah it is. It's right on the tongue.
- 1:03:06Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's right there in the tongue. Well,
- 1:03:10Speaker 9: actually the regular four has the patch on it. This
- 1:03:13Speaker 9: is the first four where they it's no patch on
- 1:03:16Speaker 9: the actress.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: It's just a log.
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: Yeah you got you gotys send us a professional pictures,
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: will put it on YouTube.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: Yeah for sure.
- 1:03:23Speaker 9: And then on the bottom of it, I actually came
- 1:03:25Speaker 9: out with a candide, how I ain't.
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: Bring the how I ain't bring the first thing?
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: I said, brother, we got.
- 1:03:30Speaker 5: Gotta be prepared at all times.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: Yes, this is not like you guys, but look it's
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: not like this mantle up here is waiting for you.
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: Waiting for wen't need? So all right, when did they drop?
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: Tomorrow?
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: Yeah, they have to come out yet now.
- 1:03:45Speaker 8: Yeah, we released from tomorrow, so we had a we
- 1:03:47Speaker 8: had a raffle, so we did it raffle style.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: And tomorrow because this episode is going to come out
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: after that, so June seventh, August seventh, and seventh, Yeah,
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: it's going to come out and how is it going
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: to be released?
- 1:03:59Speaker 8: So we did it just because we're trying to fight
- 1:04:01Speaker 8: the bots. So like we still got bots, like I mean,
- 1:04:05Speaker 8: and even Nike gets botsed like and we're not as
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: big as Nike. So what you basically do is to
- 1:04:10Speaker 8: ensure that it is as random as possible. We did
- 1:04:14Speaker 8: a raffle where people can sign up, which the sign
- 1:04:18Speaker 8: up has been insane.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: We got like one hundred and I think it's.
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: One hundred and seventeen thousand entries, but we had to
- 1:04:23Speaker 8: scrape through I think at one point it was like
- 1:04:25Speaker 8: eight hundred thousand because of the bots, so.
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: It's just over a million now.
- 1:04:29Speaker 8: So you basically got to like constantly be scrubbing to
- 1:04:32Speaker 8: ensure and there's ways that you can check like essentially
- 1:04:35Speaker 8: like user behavior so like there's a way that if
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: you were to sign up on a raffle non times
- 1:04:41Speaker 8: out of ten for us, like you're going to hit
- 1:04:43Speaker 8: the site multiple times. So if you just come on
- 1:04:45Speaker 8: one time, then we know generally speaking, that's probably a bot.
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: So you get to control out a Nike Nike Well,
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: it's kind of like a combination of both, right, Like
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: they obviously kind of help you through that process. Is
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: it sold that now?
- 1:04:58Speaker 8: It's so exclusively on Eastside Golf dot it's hold on
- 1:05:00Speaker 8: your websit and he's like sleepingly sold on east side
- 1:05:03Speaker 8: golf dot com.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: For the first be crazy.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, how much the inventory do you have?
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: It's super limited. I can't release the number. It's super limited.
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: And Nike and that's Nike ships hit.
- 1:05:13Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:05:13Speaker 8: Yeah, it's all gonna be shipped. Yeah, it's all gonna
- 1:05:16Speaker 8: be shipped and delivered. But if you gotta go to
- 1:05:18Speaker 8: Eastside golf dot com.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean every sneaker page on Instagram had them.
- 1:05:23Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, Now we dominated the sneaker culture for like
- 1:05:26Speaker 8: forty eight hours.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: It was crazy.
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: It was how long do you anticipate before it cells out?
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Oh, it's gonna be seconds.
- 1:05:31Speaker 8: I mean because you got to under it like it's
- 1:05:32Speaker 8: already in a sense sold out. Like the way you
- 1:05:35Speaker 8: get it is through the raffle, And like I said,
- 1:05:38Speaker 8: we've scrubbed and we still got about one hundred and
- 1:05:40Speaker 8: seventeen thousand entries for super limited pairs.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Two seconds.
- 1:05:44Speaker 8: They said, like the buzz for these is like the
- 1:05:46Speaker 8: d or Ones. Yeah, no, bs like.
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: And their golf shoes and their golf So everybody's gonna
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: wear them in the golfers. People's just gonna wear them
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: just I think I.
- 1:05:54Speaker 9: Think I think a few people are gonna take the
- 1:05:57Speaker 9: spikes off the bottom of.
- 1:05:58Speaker 8: It because you're gonna take them out, and just because
- 1:06:00Speaker 8: you can replace the spikes.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you go to you know the address, right, I'm
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: gonna show you the closet after we okay.
- 1:06:09Speaker 9: Yeah, you go to a golf store and you get
- 1:06:11Speaker 9: a spike removal. I mean it's a little too pronged.
- 1:06:14Speaker 9: Take you a second, clip.
- 1:06:15Speaker 8: It out because they were built so like you wear
- 1:06:18Speaker 8: them down, you can kind of replace.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: You can definitely take it out. And that's the thing.
- 1:06:22Speaker 8: Like people honestly are treating like a collector's item too,
- 1:06:26Speaker 8: So like people just going like just like the yours.
- 1:06:28Speaker 8: I'm telling you, it's so similar to the door, Like
- 1:06:31Speaker 8: people a gonna try to get them and just put
- 1:06:32Speaker 8: them up. Now it's gonna be people that will also
- 1:06:34Speaker 8: wear them on the golf course as well, but generally speaking,
- 1:06:38Speaker 8: most people are just gonna kind of put them up
- 1:06:40Speaker 8: and sit on them too late to get the camp.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: We're gonna talk about that. I know that their power
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: is one thing, right, and you're trying to change the game,
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: so obviously with the cleats, but what is your vision
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: for some of these tours? Are we customized? Like what
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: are you gonna do? Is it going to stick to
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: khakis and polos up? We gotta bigger vision, like and
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: we gonna see dudes wearing and had bands on the
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: like what we're doing.
- 1:07:04Speaker 9: I mean right now when it comes to the tournaments,
- 1:07:08Speaker 9: we're so we're taking the approach of collabing with every
- 1:07:12Speaker 9: single tournament. So we're coming out with pieces that were
- 1:07:15Speaker 9: selling the in their tour tent So like even we
- 1:07:19Speaker 9: just did a Rocking Mortgage Classic, did a collab with
- 1:07:21Speaker 9: Rocking Mortgage, so all the pieces were custom They're not
- 1:07:24Speaker 9: sold on the website, you can only get them at
- 1:07:27Speaker 9: that tournament. So we're releasing pieces like that. But then
- 1:07:30Speaker 9: also how we truly grow in golf is the pieces
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: that we're releasing that are for golf. I mean we're
- 1:07:36Speaker 9: talking about, you know, pieces as far as like a vest, hoodie,
- 1:07:41Speaker 9: you know what I'm saying. Also go over a polo,
- 1:07:44Speaker 9: over a T shirt. This is something that's coming a
- 1:07:46Speaker 9: little later this year. We're coming out with a jacket,
- 1:07:49Speaker 9: you know, later this year, maybe like Bomber next year.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:07:52Speaker 9: So these are different things that you can honestly wear,
- 1:07:57Speaker 9: you know, out with the boys, go get a drink in.
- 1:07:59Speaker 9: But also we're to the golf course and be comfortable,
- 1:08:02Speaker 9: be warm, and be fashionable.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: At the same time, y'all trying to find a signature
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: athlete because I know you mentioned Varna and I know
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Cameron cha Champ because it's very limited. It's like four
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: players African American players that are on the tour, so
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: I can imagine maybe starting there and then.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: No, no, that's not the plan. I mean, we got
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: an athlete right here, like we're.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: Gonna break that. We're gonna break that news aflete.
- 1:08:28Speaker 8: Nah oh, I mean, like he said, that's why the
- 1:08:30Speaker 8: reason he started the company, Like he's super talented, Like
- 1:08:32Speaker 8: he's not wasting his time like he know, like if
- 1:08:34Speaker 8: I thought like it was a waste of time.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: So like I even got to tell this story you mentioned, uh,
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: Cameron Champ.
- 1:08:40Speaker 8: Yeah, so we played in the pro am, which is
- 1:08:42Speaker 8: essentially it's almost like an open run. So imagine like
- 1:08:46Speaker 8: before an NBA game, if you got to like warm
- 1:08:48Speaker 8: up with the guys right and just kind of warm up.
- 1:08:50Speaker 8: So that's basically what it was, like a warm up
- 1:08:52Speaker 8: that we did at a PGA tournament. So it's called
- 1:08:55Speaker 8: a pro am, so you play with pros and amateurs
- 1:08:57Speaker 8: and oh, we get to the first and like the
- 1:09:01Speaker 8: two pros get up in here. It was Tony Phenam
- 1:09:04Speaker 8: and Cameron Champ in New Orleans. So they get up,
- 1:09:06Speaker 8: they bomb it down the middle, and then were about
- 1:09:08Speaker 8: to walk off because typically we playing up amateurs play
- 1:09:11Speaker 8: from up here, pros play from back here. O was like, nah,
- 1:09:14Speaker 8: I want to play from back here, and the PGA
- 1:09:16Speaker 8: Tour rules officials like, you know, sir, like this ain't
- 1:09:19Speaker 8: the time, like just t up there.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: He like, nah, I want to play from right here.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: They was like oh okay.
- 1:09:25Speaker 8: So then he ended up putting it in the ground,
- 1:09:28Speaker 8: got up there and bomb that joint down the middle.
- 1:09:31Speaker 8: And these two are one of the longest guys on
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: tour here had pass both of them right down the
- 1:09:35Speaker 8: middle and they were just like, oh wow. And then
- 1:09:38Speaker 8: you know, I got up there hit my little shot.
- 1:09:39Speaker 8: I was in the fairway. I wouldn't I wasn't like
- 1:09:42Speaker 8: these guys. But I say all that to say like
- 1:09:45Speaker 8: he one can definitely can't compete against them. It was like,
- 1:09:48Speaker 8: you know, when we were out there, he definitely showed that.
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: But I think, like to your other point, like he
- 1:09:52Speaker 8: is the logo, so it's like, first you're gonna kind
- 1:09:55Speaker 8: of start with him, and then I think, you know,
- 1:09:57Speaker 8: as the brand grows, there will be other people that
- 1:09:59Speaker 8: we kind of bring on. But it's all about kind
- 1:10:01Speaker 8: of like embodying the ethos of the brand. And I
- 1:10:03Speaker 8: feel like that's what Jordan Brand did. And you know,
- 1:10:06Speaker 8: when we collab with partners, we just try to make
- 1:10:08Speaker 8: sure that it's alignment because we don't want to come
- 1:10:10Speaker 8: anything kind of traditional, so we just want to continue
- 1:10:12Speaker 8: to kind of create that new wave.
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: Yeah east Side, So you so you're you're a professional
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: golfer now, yeah, so work still, I mean head designer
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: of east Side, but still working on, you know, replacing
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: myself in the business and then going to be doing
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: many tour events, you know, hopefully Q school, qualifying school
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: for the PGA Tour and UH and just getting runs in,
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: like he said, just many tour events, many tour events
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: and starting just to get that comfortable and find time
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: to practice, you know, while running this business.
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: So I think you guys are very similar. I think
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: what we've done in the world of finance, just breaking.
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: O rules and wearing shoes.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: And talking how we talk, is kind of what you
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: guys are doing for golf. Yeah, and so it's a
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: sport that we started by saying, not many African Americans
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: are involved. What are your plans to get the youth
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: to be in love with the game, in touch with
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: the game, understand the game, exposure to it. What do
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: you've got You have that in the plans?
- 1:11:11Speaker 10: Yeah, for sure. So I mean I'll go and I'll
- 1:11:13Speaker 10: let you go.
- 1:11:14Speaker 9: But first off, it was always about having them getting
- 1:11:16Speaker 9: them interested, you know. That was always like, how are
- 1:11:19Speaker 9: we gonna get them to want to even want to
- 1:11:22Speaker 9: play golf? You know, And I felt like it was
- 1:11:25Speaker 9: always representation, just never seeing anybody that acted normal or
- 1:11:30Speaker 9: acted like them and then played golf. You know, definitely
- 1:11:33Speaker 9: Tiger Woods was the catalyst, was the first person who
- 1:11:36Speaker 9: pushed the needle forward. But then to find similarities in
- 1:11:41Speaker 9: between a person you see playing golf. I felt like
- 1:11:43Speaker 9: making the logo would speak to everybody without even start,
- 1:11:48Speaker 9: without even playing golf. But you see the logo and
- 1:11:51Speaker 9: it says, damn like I could be myself. You know,
- 1:11:53Speaker 9: no matter if I got a Cuban League chain on
- 1:11:56Speaker 9: and swinging as hard as I can, the chain't going
- 1:11:59Speaker 9: this way, club going this way, I could still play
- 1:12:01Speaker 9: golf and have a good time and be fashionable, just
- 1:12:05Speaker 9: like the logo.
- 1:12:05Speaker 10: So first you get their attention, which we.
- 1:12:08Speaker 9: Did, but then we started to get the attention of
- 1:12:12Speaker 9: young professionals.
- 1:12:13Speaker 10: So that was first because.
- 1:12:15Speaker 9: Honestly, in golf, the younger generation, how they're going to
- 1:12:18Speaker 9: be successful is their parents. You know, they're going to
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: be the people that take them to the golf course,
- 1:12:23Speaker 9: pay for the clubs, pay.
- 1:12:24Speaker 10: For the lessons and all those things.
- 1:12:26Speaker 9: So we got the young professionals' attention and then we
- 1:12:30Speaker 9: show the positives and things that they can get from it.
- 1:12:33Speaker 9: So now they're teaching their kids, you know, the positives
- 1:12:37Speaker 9: and how to network and how to even play golf
- 1:12:40Speaker 9: because you can get a golf scholarship or just you
- 1:12:43Speaker 9: can learn the networking tools that you need in life
- 1:12:47Speaker 9: just from playing golf.
- 1:12:48Speaker 8: So but yeah, no, he's on hundre percent right. Like
- 1:12:51Speaker 8: the dividends, it pays dividends much earlier and sooner if
- 1:12:55Speaker 8: you go at the young professionals like you guys are
- 1:12:57Speaker 8: prime example, and I'm sure a lot of your listeners
- 1:12:59Speaker 8: are priming examples. If they picked up a golf club
- 1:13:02Speaker 8: today and really took the time and invest in it,
- 1:13:05Speaker 8: they will see a return on that, I would say
- 1:13:07Speaker 8: probably in twelve to eighteen months. The network and the
- 1:13:10Speaker 8: opportunity to travel, whether we could just be something relaxing,
- 1:13:13Speaker 8: or it could be opportunities for their business rather than
- 1:13:16Speaker 8: if you have a child at twelve or thirteen. There's
- 1:13:19Speaker 8: nothing wrong with it, but the return is going to
- 1:13:21Speaker 8: be a little bit longer. It's going to be you know,
- 1:13:23Speaker 8: they got to wait till they get to college and
- 1:13:24Speaker 8: things of that nature. So our whole thing kind of
- 1:13:27Speaker 8: just reiterated his point. It's just like if you grow
- 1:13:30Speaker 8: up seeing it, it's like, oh, like your kids. I
- 1:13:32Speaker 8: don't know if you guys have kids or not, but
- 1:13:33Speaker 8: it's like if you started and you coming home with
- 1:13:36Speaker 8: the golf clubs and they seeing they're like, damn dad,
- 1:13:38Speaker 8: He's like, yeah, I got this deal on a golf course.
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: They just start seeing it.
- 1:13:42Speaker 8: Now you can kind of talk to them about, okay,
- 1:13:44Speaker 8: how this thing really works, and then they start seeing
- 1:13:46Speaker 8: the value in it because that's the biggest thing.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: And you kind of touched on.
- 1:13:49Speaker 8: It very early on. It was like we don't we
- 1:13:51Speaker 8: hear about it, but we don't see it. So now
- 1:13:54Speaker 8: you get someone that can actually like in your household.
- 1:13:57Speaker 8: You seeing them actually on the golf course and what
- 1:14:00Speaker 8: opportunities are coming about, You're like, Okay, it is real.
- 1:14:04Speaker 8: It is doable, because that's the thing. You just got
- 1:14:06Speaker 8: to make it real and tangible. So to his point,
- 1:14:09Speaker 8: I just think like we are focused on a younger
- 1:14:11Speaker 8: generation for sure, but like I feel like we naturally
- 1:14:14Speaker 8: do that and they want to kind of play golf.
- 1:14:16Speaker 8: But like I would say, our immediate focus is young
- 1:14:18Speaker 8: professionals investing in them because if we do that, then
- 1:14:22Speaker 8: they'll start having kids and training up their kids will
- 1:14:24Speaker 8: it'll just be normal, because it's just like, I don't
- 1:14:26Speaker 8: know my dad was always playing golf.
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: I didn't know that was not anything.
- 1:14:29Speaker 8: It's just like when you grow up in a house,
- 1:14:31Speaker 8: you don't know, like you grow up wherever in the project.
- 1:14:33Speaker 8: You're just like, I didn't know it was something different.
- 1:14:35Speaker 8: Id't know this world was bad. This was just my world.
- 1:14:38Speaker 8: It's just my universe. So it's like, how do we
- 1:14:40Speaker 8: normalize golf, how do we normalize stocks, assets, all of
- 1:14:43Speaker 8: those things for the next generation and they can actually
- 1:14:45Speaker 8: see the results of it.
- 1:14:47Speaker 9: And honestly, we're breaking the company into three branches. One
- 1:14:51Speaker 9: being a pail, the main branch where we make all
- 1:14:53Speaker 9: our bread. The second branch being the professional route. Well
- 1:14:59Speaker 9: i'm sorry, nonprofit route, So nonprofit money that we receive,
- 1:15:03Speaker 9: we would put it towards sponsoring black professional golfers, making
- 1:15:08Speaker 9: more professional golfers, but then also making more professional black
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: teachers as well, expanding that PG of America reach and
- 1:15:17Speaker 9: to where they'll still be rocking east side. So that's
- 1:15:19Speaker 9: the second branch, and then the third one is teaching,
- 1:15:22Speaker 9: so he would be a part of that one and
- 1:15:25Speaker 9: actually making like I said, more PJ professionals, but teaching
- 1:15:29Speaker 9: them and having the opportunity to.
- 1:15:31Speaker 10: Get them accredited through east Side. That's a goal of ours.
- 1:15:34Speaker 9: So now we're giving people accreditations, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:15:39Speaker 9: and they can run an entire golf course. Also we're
- 1:15:42Speaker 9: trying to put well, we're going to be putting money
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: towards the younger individuals that want to play golf and
- 1:15:47Speaker 9: getting them donations, the balls, the clubs, the clothes, and
- 1:15:50Speaker 9: to where they can be out there and they can
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: be accepted by the golf course or by the people
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: around it. But all of those things, I mean, I
- 1:15:58Speaker 9: would say that's the that's the plan to actually influence an.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: So speaking of teaching, you had a very prestigious student
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: from your state. Yeah, can you elaborate on it?
- 1:16:12Speaker 8: Yeah, Now I was, well, I guess now the President
- 1:16:15Speaker 8: of the United States currently, mister Joe Biden. I had
- 1:16:21Speaker 8: an opportunity to teach him, which was kind of crazy.
- 1:16:23Speaker 8: Like the story was wild because I'm at Womanton Country
- 1:16:26Speaker 8: Club and like I said, I was the first African
- 1:16:27Speaker 8: American god pro there and I used to caddy there,
- 1:16:30Speaker 8: So it was like a full circle thing where like
- 1:16:31Speaker 8: if you know caddies like just there just carrying the clubs.
- 1:16:34Speaker 8: It's not nothing sexy about caddying. And then to come
- 1:16:37Speaker 8: back and get an opportunity to teach there. But one
- 1:16:41Speaker 8: day I'm just doing my thing, you know, and at
- 1:16:43Speaker 8: this point I was getting a lot of recognition from
- 1:16:45Speaker 8: my teaching at this time, and somebody, my man Ron Oliver,
- 1:16:50Speaker 8: comes in, who is close to Jail, that's like his
- 1:16:51Speaker 8: best friend, and he says, Yo, like you ready, he's
- 1:16:54Speaker 8: out there on a lesson tea. I'm like, huh what
- 1:16:56Speaker 8: So all right, I go out there and showing up
- 1:16:58Speaker 8: it's Joe Biden. But it's crazy because, like I tell people,
- 1:17:02Speaker 8: like you're training them, but it's like an audience now,
- 1:17:04Speaker 8: like you got secret service there. They's super tight on you.
- 1:17:07Speaker 8: Everybody's looking like, oh that's Joe, that's Joe. And I
- 1:17:11Speaker 8: was a cool it was, you know, I just kind
- 1:17:12Speaker 8: of got in my teaching mode, you know, because I
- 1:17:14Speaker 8: love to teach. So we were just out there just
- 1:17:16Speaker 8: chopping it up, helping him out, you know, making better
- 1:17:18Speaker 8: contact with the golf ball and then you know, just
- 1:17:20Speaker 8: small conversation and one of the things I just remember,
- 1:17:22Speaker 8: I'm like, so, you know, what do you like about
- 1:17:23Speaker 8: coming out here?
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: The most, like what's your highlight?
- 1:17:25Speaker 8: And he was like, I get to drive the golf
- 1:17:27Speaker 8: cart because everywhere I've been for like the last.
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: You know, eight years, I get driven. I don't get
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: to drive no more.
- 1:17:33Speaker 8: So it's kind of out there. He gets a little
- 1:17:34Speaker 8: bit more controlled. But it was it was a dope experience,
- 1:17:37Speaker 8: you know what I mean.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: It was just something that he was like.
- 1:17:39Speaker 8: Yo, keep going, keep doing your thing, and just you know,
- 1:17:41Speaker 8: I was able to kind of capture that moment, you know,
- 1:17:43Speaker 8: with a photograph. So it was definitely one of those
- 1:17:45Speaker 8: dope experience to be able to, you know, teach the
- 1:17:47Speaker 8: vice president then, but now the president of the United States.
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: You have it.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Michael Jordan's.
- 1:17:55Speaker 8: Yeah, it's been it's been crazy to support for the brand.
- 1:17:59Speaker 8: You know, there's so many people need to shout out
- 1:18:00Speaker 8: like you know, like I said, Chris Paul has been
- 1:18:02Speaker 8: unbelievable supportive.
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: Uh you know that we signed the c A A.
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: You got Sean Pecos over there signed them.
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah agents.
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: Yeah, they do brand representation for us over there.
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: Because we did the uh posted we met Dayne.
- 1:18:20Speaker 8: Off course, yeah, so we worked with his his division
- 1:18:23Speaker 8: over there too. So Peckos works over there, Desmond is
- 1:18:26Speaker 8: over there, Lisa is managers.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: So it's a whole.
- 1:18:28Speaker 9: It's a team called Amplifi or yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: So they so that's the division. So we sit in
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: the golf division.
- 1:18:36Speaker 8: So we got two folks over there, one by the
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: name of a net Park and she's been excellent in
- 1:18:40Speaker 8: Sam Sternberg, So Sam and and that is kind of
- 1:18:43Speaker 8: like manager.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: What do they do for you?
- 1:18:44Speaker 8: So they bring in brand partnerships, so basically like you know,
- 1:18:48Speaker 8: we get opportunities. So we signed, well, yeah we can
- 1:18:51Speaker 8: tell the BMW h we got a two year deal
- 1:18:53Speaker 8: with BMW Championship that we did.
- 1:18:55Speaker 10: You also have a deal with you guys are like
- 1:18:58Speaker 10: this one coinbase.
- 1:19:00Speaker 9: Well so yeah, just imagine you know what I'm saying
- 1:19:02Speaker 9: that that was the whole thing, taking financial literacy and
- 1:19:06Speaker 9: making it cool.
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:19:07Speaker 9: So now you got a cool logo and every time
- 1:19:10Speaker 9: you see it you think it damn like finance is
- 1:19:12Speaker 9: cool too, Like maybe I want to start reading up
- 1:19:15Speaker 9: on that or take the you know, Eyo University.
- 1:19:23Speaker 8: Yeah, so they like they helped manage a lot of
- 1:19:25Speaker 8: our deals for us and also like kind of you know,
- 1:19:29Speaker 8: within their portfolio that gives us opportunity and exposure because
- 1:19:32Speaker 8: they you know, they're connected to so many different athletes,
- 1:19:34Speaker 8: like for the whole seeding opportunity.
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: So it's been great.
- 1:19:37Speaker 8: Like CIA has been really really to be a part
- 1:19:39Speaker 8: of like that powerhouse and like the heads of it
- 1:19:41Speaker 8: as well, because they all plays golf right like, so
- 1:19:44Speaker 8: the head of sports, the head of music, the head
- 1:19:46Speaker 8: of it is the head of that and CIA has
- 1:19:48Speaker 8: that reach. So it's been it's been great, it's been.
- 1:19:51Speaker 8: It's been good to really, you know, work with them.
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: Do you have it, ladies and gentlemen. I appreciate you guys.
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: Man.
