- 0:08Speaker 1: Podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to me Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Gianni's but tell us.
- 0:16Speaker 2: The damn script says Spencer Newhart's I noticed it too.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We're not going to start again. I'm still Janni's but
- 0:22Speaker 2: tell us. And today we're joined by Spencer Randall, Brodie
- 0:26Speaker 2: cal Roman Reva, and Eric Hamburg. Eric, this is your
- 0:31Speaker 2: first time on the show. Tell folks what you do
- 0:34Speaker 2: here at meat Eater.
- 0:35Speaker 3: I work at the Meat Eater store in downtown and
- 0:38Speaker 3: I go to college at Montana State.
- 0:40Speaker 4: You grow a lot of hair too.
- 0:42Speaker 5: It looks like that's what I'm known for him.
- 0:44Speaker 6: Yep, I was wondering if it was one of those hats,
- 0:49Speaker 6: wondering where you can find one.
- 0:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 0:51Speaker 3: The first time, the first time Steve met me, he
- 0:54Speaker 3: referred to me as the.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Kid that needed a haircut.
- 0:58Speaker 5: That's devastating.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Are you old enough to be dating? Yeah? Do you
- 1:05Speaker 2: feel like the hair helps you in the in dating
- 1:10Speaker 2: world or or the other direction.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I've had the same girlfriend for almost two years and she.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Has curly hair too, so I'd say it helped you. Okay,
- 1:19Speaker 2: what age.
- 1:19Speaker 5: Do you think you need to be to start dating Yannie.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know, somewhere in early to mid high school.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I guess, okay, so college.
- 1:28Speaker 8: Yeah, he was already telling me the other day to
- 1:32Speaker 8: keep my boy away from his daughter.
- 1:34Speaker 4: And they're like super young.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh wow, Yeah, my girls like to talk about boys.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I don't know if your boys like to talk about girls. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:44Speaker 2: all right.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Eric said they listened to Uh they put all the
- 1:47Speaker 5: trivias on the TV at the store, and he said
- 1:49Speaker 5: it's usually a pretty poor performance. Though. Who's the best
- 1:53Speaker 5: at the store.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'd say Kate. We had high hopes for Kate, and.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he got strong start. See, we'll see you made
- 2:02Speaker 1: a strong start.
- 2:04Speaker 2: How do you usually do? What are your what's your gut?
- 2:06Speaker 2: Say you're gonna do today?
- 2:08Speaker 3: I get a lot of random questions, right, like the
- 2:10Speaker 3: ones that people in the store don't get right.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I usually get right.
- 2:13Speaker 3: But we'll see. I'm known as the slow one in
- 2:15Speaker 3: the store, but.
- 2:20Speaker 5: The hairy one in.
- 2:21Speaker 1: The slow one promising, I like a humble fellow promising. Resume.
- 2:27Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 2:30Speaker 2: meat eaters. Four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking,
- 2:35Speaker 2: and there's a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred
- 2:39Speaker 2: dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing. Now
- 2:44Speaker 2: on the stats for the stat of the week, we're
- 2:48Speaker 2: looking at scores from previous times I hosted. The first
- 2:51Speaker 2: two times, the average player's score was three point three.
- 2:55Speaker 2: There's hard questions. The average winning score was six. But
- 2:59Speaker 2: last time my host sed the average player score was
- 3:01Speaker 2: four point four and the winning score was nine.
- 3:05Speaker 5: What do you think the winning score will be today?
- 3:07Speaker 5: You said there's no Jennifer Index.
- 3:09Speaker 2: No, but man, I really felt like I was. I
- 3:11Speaker 2: was trying to I almost went, uh multiple choice, Oh yeah,
- 3:18Speaker 2: to really make it just nothing but softball. You always
- 3:21Speaker 2: have one out of four chance.
- 3:22Speaker 1: You know you wanted the smartest class in the.
- 3:24Speaker 2: School, exactly.
- 3:26Speaker 8: Man, I don't know if the multiple choice is like
- 3:28Speaker 8: an automatic softball unless you wrote them.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Now, well, it makes you feel good though, you're like,
- 3:33Speaker 2: I got one out of four, right. No one has
- 3:35Speaker 2: to show a blank board like I feel like.
- 3:37Speaker 8: Spencer used to write the multiple choice question as a softball,
- 3:41Speaker 8: but I don't think that's the case anymore.
- 3:43Speaker 5: That's it's usually the last question to come in a script,
- 3:46Speaker 5: and so if I need a harder question in there
- 3:48Speaker 5: than and it's harder, and if it's an easy round,
- 3:52Speaker 5: or excuse me, a hard round, then I'll make it easier.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So I wrote this whole thing between the hours of
- 3:59Speaker 2: like midnight and nine today, so I don't have all
- 4:02Speaker 2: that I'm kidding, but I still didn't write it quite
- 4:06Speaker 2: as detailed as Spencer would have. All Right, onto IFAQ,
- 4:11Speaker 2: which stands for and Frequently ask Questions segment, or as
- 4:16Speaker 2: I refer to it, the Spencer wants to talk about
- 4:18Speaker 2: a subject but is unsure if the crew will think
- 4:21Speaker 2: it's cool segment. If you have a trivia related question
- 4:25Speaker 2: for our crew, send it to trivia at the meat
- 4:28Speaker 2: Eater dot com with the subject line IFAQ in caps IFAQ.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But don't get your hopes up, because unless Spencer also
- 4:37Speaker 2: is interested in your question, we're probably not gonna.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Air it well one a week, one a week.
- 4:42Speaker 2: So this question comes from Bob Burns, probably a name
- 4:46Speaker 2: Spencer made up on episode six hundred and fifty three.
- 4:51Speaker 2: You have a question about military land. I am active
- 4:54Speaker 2: duty at Fort Stewart and was wondering if anyone at
- 4:57Speaker 2: Meat Eater has ever hunted military land. I do often,
- 5:00Speaker 2: but was wondering about your take on it.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I have not know you have, though, haven't you?
- 5:06Speaker 2: No?
- 5:07Speaker 5: Oh, I never had that.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I never.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 5: No.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I have a friend that does a bunch. He's actually
- 5:16Speaker 2: he's also stationed at a at a I don't know
- 5:19Speaker 2: if it's called a base or a ford or whatever,
- 5:22Speaker 2: but because he knows about the system, he's always like, oh, yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I was in Texas hunting this military place installation, and then
- 5:30Speaker 2: we've went on a trip in California and hunted. This
- 5:32Speaker 2: sounds like there's good opportunities, but no, one, Randall, you've
- 5:35Speaker 2: never done it.
- 5:36Speaker 1: No, never.
- 5:36Speaker 9: I mean, I'm familiar with some of the opportunities, but
- 5:39Speaker 9: I've never done it myself.
- 5:41Speaker 5: One of the things I'd say is someone who's never
- 5:43Speaker 5: hunted it is that there's like a few more hoops
- 5:45Speaker 5: to jump through, which eliminates some folks from like going
- 5:47Speaker 5: through that process. Similar to in Montana, you have private
- 5:51Speaker 5: land that becomes public access to the BMA program, and
- 5:55Speaker 5: there's two types, and one type requires more legwork than
- 5:57Speaker 5: the other one, and that one tends to keep more
- 5:59Speaker 5: peace blout. And I'm sure military ground is the same way.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Just be my guess.
- 6:05Speaker 7: Mm hmm.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Anybody else anything to say about that.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Cal You're a well traveled fellow.
- 6:16Speaker 2: A lot of.
- 6:17Speaker 6: People who have hunted Montana have hunted on military land.
- 6:21Speaker 6: Just uh, isn't a full functioning base anymore.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I heard about one recently in Montana, but I'm not
- 6:31Speaker 2: gonna mention it for fear of blown up a spot. Yeah.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I wouldn't do that either.
- 6:37Speaker 6: Yeah. No, there there's we got quite a ways down
- 6:43Speaker 6: the permission's rabbit hole to hunt on the military installation
- 6:51Speaker 6: in Guam last year.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Wow.
- 6:54Speaker 6: Yeah, so we're gonna hunt pigs and uh, what do
- 7:00Speaker 6: they have their fallow deer? No, what's the Yeah, maybe
- 7:05Speaker 6: it is a fallow deer. Yeah, yep, yep, yep. Really
- 7:09Speaker 6: easy to do with archery equipment.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Uh.
- 7:11Speaker 6: You definitely got to jump through some more hoops and
- 7:14Speaker 6: uh and then you know, so like ibex did Steve
- 7:17Speaker 6: do on base? He did he did off base or
- 7:19Speaker 6: or x y. One thing that you have to do
- 7:24Speaker 6: is you have to take an ordnance test so you
- 7:27Speaker 6: can be like, oh, that's ordnance on the ground. I
- 7:33Speaker 6: need to tell people where it is and avoid it.
- 7:37Speaker 2: It's a little little test that's spooky. Yeah, a little
- 7:41Speaker 2: bit of a hoop, don't walk around in the dark.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Oh look another I f a Q. This one's sent
- 7:48Speaker 2: in from Albert Gallatin.
- 7:50Speaker 8: Huh, Secretary of the Treasury.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I don't know. It's almost like someone just made this up. Alas,
- 7:58Speaker 2: are you guys going to have any new cooking content soon?
- 8:01Speaker 2: I haven't seen a good cooking show since pardon my plate?
- 8:05Speaker 2: That was okay, just so happens al that. Yeah, we
- 8:13Speaker 2: just released the first episode of a new show called
- 8:15Speaker 2: Me Eater Rose, where we have a couple of our own,
- 8:19Speaker 2: very own every day wild game culinary enthusiasts.
- 8:27Speaker 5: I heard you insult Brody with that term.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Well, no, I changed it. He now is approving. I
- 8:33Speaker 2: was calling them ordinary ordinary cooks in the kitchen, but
- 8:38Speaker 2: they compete against each other. They have an unknown chunk
- 8:41Speaker 2: of wild game to cook and a short amount of time,
- 8:45Speaker 2: and then we have a couple of judges who sort
- 8:47Speaker 2: of roastum helped them along. The first episode just aired
- 8:50Speaker 2: was cal v Brody and we had Jesse Griffiths and
- 8:54Speaker 2: Ranella judging, and so far it's been feedback has been
- 8:59Speaker 2: great on it.
- 9:00Speaker 5: So what day of the week these drop.
- 9:02Speaker 2: No idea on YouTube?
- 9:09Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 9:09Speaker 2: The first one dropped, but now I've heard that there
- 9:12Speaker 2: aren't are. The forthcoming ones are being pushed a little
- 9:17Speaker 2: ways until we figure out some sponsorship maybe about who
- 9:21Speaker 2: who wants to attach their name to this fine show.
- 9:23Speaker 1: No one's going to want to sponsor my episode.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Oh no, it's going to be the hottest one.
- 9:29Speaker 6: I heard from several people in the room that having nothing.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Nobody mentioned the cooking at all, but.
- 9:37Speaker 5: They all oh me and Randall's episode. We said a
- 9:42Speaker 5: beer drinking record that episode.
- 9:45Speaker 9: I don't think we should brag about that because it
- 9:48Speaker 9: really wasn't that many beers.
- 9:51Speaker 5: We can break that record next time we're on there again.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah, oh goodness. So yeah, go to our YouTube channel
- 9:57Speaker 2: and check out me Eater Roasts first episode at cal
- 10:01Speaker 2: v Brody. It's right, we'll have more coming soon. All right.
- 10:04Speaker 2: For today's housekeeping, I'm going to throw it to Spenser
- 10:08Speaker 2: for the announcement he teased last week.
- 10:12Speaker 5: We have a new game on our website. If you're
- 10:15Speaker 5: familiar with our website, you might know that we have
- 10:17Speaker 5: crossword puzzles that come out every Wednesday, and they are
- 10:21Speaker 5: crossword puzzles from the Meat Eater universe that cover topics
- 10:24Speaker 5: like haunting, fishing, the outdoors, National Parks, Conservation, wild game,
- 10:28Speaker 5: things like that, and you compete against Randall in those
- 10:31Speaker 5: crossword puzzles. We have a new game. It's gonna come
- 10:33Speaker 5: out every single Monday. It's called meat Eater Turtle. It's
- 10:36Speaker 5: a lot like wordle but it's better. Mead Eater Turtle
- 10:39Speaker 5: has a five letter word that you get six tries
- 10:42Speaker 5: to solve. It will give you help along the way.
- 10:45Speaker 5: If your letter is yellow, that means you have the
- 10:48Speaker 5: right letter in the wrong spot. If it's green, you
- 10:51Speaker 5: have the right letter in the right spot. If it's gray,
- 10:53Speaker 5: then you that letter is not in the word at all.
- 10:56Speaker 5: And this is a way to give another game to
- 11:01Speaker 5: people who share our dictionary as Outdoorsmen. So comes out
- 11:05Speaker 5: every single Monday. Jannis is the person that you're going
- 11:08Speaker 5: to be competing against in Mead Eater Turtle. But for
- 11:11Speaker 5: the first one, which comes out April seventh, the whole
- 11:14Speaker 5: crew is going to play that one. We're going to
- 11:16Speaker 5: reveal their scores on an upcoming episode of med Eater
- 11:19Speaker 5: Radio and you'll see if you can beat them. That
- 11:21Speaker 5: first category is an animal. It's a five letter word
- 11:26Speaker 5: that's an animal. Go play it the medeater dot com
- 11:29Speaker 5: slash games.
- 11:31Speaker 6: Did you see the fly? I found?
- 11:33Speaker 5: Cal sent to a screenshot that it didn't accept oscar.
- 11:37Speaker 5: It doesn't like proper nouns. But I would argue with
- 11:40Speaker 5: the game on your behalf, Cal that oscar is also
- 11:43Speaker 5: a fish, so it should have taken that.
- 11:46Speaker 6: It's a very relevant fish because it's an invasive in
- 11:49Speaker 6: a lot of areas. Great unfish. Well, that's the problem.
- 11:57Speaker 5: So that's that's one help you. One hint for you
- 12:00Speaker 5: playing meat Eater Turtle, don't don't don't put in their oscars,
- 12:04Speaker 5: and don't put in other proper.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Downs, and don't when you're done with your oscars, don't
- 12:08Speaker 2: just chuck them out into the wild. Where you've been
- 12:10Speaker 2: testing the game on others besides me? Where have I
- 12:13Speaker 2: been stacking up?
- 12:14Speaker 5: We're gonna reveal that on an upcoming episode of Me
- 12:17Speaker 5: Eater Radio, the Whole, the whole Crew. We're gonna have
- 12:20Speaker 5: ten scores revealed how everybody did see.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Now, the fact that it's within our universe hasn't really
- 12:28Speaker 2: been helping me. I still play it like I would
- 12:30Speaker 2: play Wurdle.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Okay, that could be one strategy. Oh yeah, I.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Beg to differ.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it might be different for you.
- 12:39Speaker 9: Do you have a category that's animals and you have
- 12:42Speaker 9: five letters? You think of as many five letter animals?
- 12:45Speaker 2: Well, I guess it depends. Is it is it rating
- 12:48Speaker 2: you on speed or tries?
- 12:50Speaker 5: Speed and tries?
- 12:54Speaker 6: Do you think those markers are free?
- 12:55Speaker 2: Young man?
- 12:57Speaker 1: This one's getting work.
- 12:58Speaker 6: Why don't you just use all of that right now?
- 13:00Speaker 6: Messing with your name?
- 13:01Speaker 2: He likes the smell of the shot.
- 13:03Speaker 6: Everybody, what you're doing?
- 13:04Speaker 1: I paid the bills around this place.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Cow, So one more time.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Go to the mediator dot com slash games. Uh, you'll
- 13:11Speaker 5: have turtle on Monday's Crosswords on Wednesdays.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Thanks for all the fun you bring into our live Spencer.
- 13:18Speaker 2: We're on to question one.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Oh you tell tell him to play the drop?
- 13:22Speaker 2: Oh? Play the drop? He said he was ready. Yeah,
- 13:27Speaker 2: I lied to you a whole lot of seconds. Here
- 13:28Speaker 2: we go. We can't have it without this. Look.
- 13:32Speaker 5: I need to know what I stand to wind everything.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Just tend to win.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Everything game on Suckers. Question one blends hunting and conservation.
- 13:56Speaker 2: According to the Boone and Crocketts Club, what is the
- 14:01Speaker 2: average inside spread of a typical Boone and Crocket mule?
- 14:06Speaker 2: Deer buck? Is it twenty one, twenty two, twenty three
- 14:12Speaker 2: or twenty four inches? Now I rounded this up to
- 14:16Speaker 2: the nearest whole number because the answer actually has a
- 14:20Speaker 2: fraction next to it. I don't think that's going to
- 14:25Speaker 2: help you, guys, but I just wanted to be clear
- 14:28Speaker 2: on that. Again. The question is, according to the Boone
- 14:32Speaker 2: and Crocket Club, what is the average inside spread of
- 14:36Speaker 2: a typical Boone and Crocket mule deer buck? Is it
- 14:40Speaker 2: twenty one, twenty two, twenty three or twenty four inches?
- 14:46Speaker 5: Brody, have you ever killed the booner Mealy one?
- 14:49Speaker 2: No? Shit?
- 14:49Speaker 5: Do you know its spread?
- 14:50Speaker 2: Which one?
- 14:52Speaker 8: That one from a long time ago in Colorado?
- 14:54Speaker 4: That real heavy one.
- 14:56Speaker 8: It's a minimum, you know, yeah, the minimum?
- 14:58Speaker 5: Do you know it spread?
- 15:00Speaker 7: Not?
- 15:01Speaker 8: It didn't make It's not very wide. Okay, it's like
- 15:06Speaker 8: mass long times.
- 15:09Speaker 6: Cow's got the record show that when Brody did his
- 15:13Speaker 6: hand mass measurement, it.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Was larger than.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Enjoy.
- 15:18Speaker 8: It's like baseball bats man. That's what got it over
- 15:21Speaker 8: the edge.
- 15:22Speaker 6: Ueyville slugger diameter.
- 15:24Speaker 2: You killed on your dad about that same time period,
- 15:27Speaker 2: My dad killed one. No, that's what I mean. Sorry,
- 15:30Speaker 2: Like you were with your dad when he killed one
- 15:32Speaker 2: a giant that was about that was probably a minimum too, right, No.
- 15:37Speaker 8: That one that one my dad killed was over two hundred.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Who did you?
- 15:44Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:44Speaker 5: I was mad. That's good. I'd like to hear about
- 15:51Speaker 5: that buck after this show.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer? Yeah? Okay, go ahead and
- 15:57Speaker 2: reveal your answers. Roman going twenty two inches, Cow twenty two,
- 16:04Speaker 2: twenty two, Eric twenty three, Randall twenty three, Spencer twenty four,
- 16:08Speaker 2: Reva twenty two, Brody twenty two. We do have one
- 16:12Speaker 2: correct answer twenty four. To be exact, it is twenty
- 16:16Speaker 2: three seven eighths. Ooh, so Spencer is the only correct
- 16:21Speaker 2: answer twenty four. I spoke with Jennifer Statton of Boone
- 16:25Speaker 2: and Crockett and asked her what the average with was.
- 16:28Speaker 2: She took data from twenty one states to find this number. Interestingly,
- 16:33Speaker 2: the average inside spread of a non typical from out
- 16:37Speaker 2: of the same data set was twenty three four rates.
- 16:41Speaker 2: That's three a shorter than the typical.
- 16:44Speaker 5: There are twenty one states that have Boone and Crockett
- 16:46Speaker 5: mule deer entries correct, amundo?
- 16:49Speaker 6: There are? Yeah. I find that still to this day,
- 16:56Speaker 6: people measure the outside spread of a mule deer.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Listen. But when I first started scoring anything, I was
- 17:03Speaker 2: measuring inside and outside and applying both those numbers.
- 17:10Speaker 8: Like a back has a six inch time probably a
- 17:13Speaker 8: lot of people standing out a measure ship.
- 17:17Speaker 5: I went with twenty four because we went with to
- 17:19Speaker 5: the the Antler King collection in three fourths. But what
- 17:23Speaker 5: was his? Was it the Antler King or was it something?
- 17:25Speaker 5: Oh boy, I don't remember, but he's got like one
- 17:28Speaker 5: of the world's biggest collection of antlers in that whole
- 17:30Speaker 5: dang shed. I think he said he had two muleis
- 17:33Speaker 5: that went boon and crocket, and there were some giant
- 17:35Speaker 5: muleis in.
- 17:36Speaker 10: There, Jim Jim's horn house there, and I think Jim
- 17:40Speaker 10: has since found.
- 17:42Speaker 6: A muleier buck alive rutting a dough this year that
- 17:46Speaker 6: had split his skull plate and so.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Has wide rack.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:51Speaker 6: Literally, as one antler was hanging down and uh, I
- 17:57Speaker 6: was like, I should shoot that thing because the inside
- 18:01Speaker 6: spread on that thing is probably thirty inches.
- 18:02Speaker 2: That'd be good, yeah, right, But when you score them,
- 18:06Speaker 2: the inside spread can't exceed the length of the longest
- 18:10Speaker 2: main beam.
- 18:11Speaker 8: And I think it wouldn't count if it was broken.
- 18:15Speaker 4: The skull plate.
- 18:16Speaker 6: I think it has to.
- 18:17Speaker 5: I think that'd be hard to argue. I don't know.
- 18:20Speaker 2: It would depends on if you didn't broken or if
- 18:22Speaker 2: it's been fused.
- 18:23Speaker 6: I watched him, it wasn't flopping.
- 18:25Speaker 2: So m yeah, man, A lot to unpack with that story.
- 18:30Speaker 2: All right, we're onto question two. This one also falls
- 18:36Speaker 2: into hunting. Which camouflage first appeared on first lights hunting clothing?
- 18:44Speaker 5: Do you know this, col?
- 18:45Speaker 2: I damn sure better? Which camouflage first appeared on First
- 18:52Speaker 2: Light's clothing? So what I'm looking for is like, what
- 18:55Speaker 2: camouflage pattern was the first one? The first I ever used?
- 19:04Speaker 6: Remember it?
- 19:07Speaker 2: Even? What's so funny about that question?
- 19:10Speaker 6: This is something that I should at least have some
- 19:14Speaker 6: answer for.
- 19:16Speaker 1: You're right, you really shouldn't. I mean, no, you know some,
- 19:22Speaker 1: But this is for your time.
- 19:25Speaker 6: Are you saying you can't name a single camouflage pattern?
- 19:29Speaker 6: Is that what you're saying?
- 19:31Speaker 7: Well?
- 19:31Speaker 6: I just thought of one.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Okay, great, there you go.
- 19:35Speaker 6: That was the hangout.
- 19:37Speaker 5: So do you have this one? Right? Cal?
- 19:39Speaker 6: I know exactly what's right.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I was gonna say.
- 19:43Speaker 5: This is sort of a this is a bone for Cal,
- 19:46Speaker 5: This is a.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Bone for the oh g the first employee of First Light.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I didn't know that he was gonna well, and I
- 19:53Speaker 2: guess it wasn't in the script here that I didn't
- 19:55Speaker 2: know that Cal was still but old.
- 19:57Speaker 8: Pair of bibs and this stuff, and I kiss still
- 20:00Speaker 8: can't remember it's called.
- 20:02Speaker 11: I feel like this is interesting timing as Camo's coming
- 20:04Speaker 11: back in the fashion world.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I'm seeing this.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Coming back. Now. Where have you been? Roman?
- 20:13Speaker 4: This one's very fashionable too.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Brody, do you have something written down? Okay, does everybody
- 20:19Speaker 2: have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answer. Oh,
- 20:21Speaker 2: I got it right, Roman, Cal say a SAT, Eric
- 20:26Speaker 2: Massy Oak, Randall Asat Spencer bottom Lands, which is the
- 20:31Speaker 2: Massi Oak pattern, Reva Cash, which is the first Light pattern. Brody,
- 20:35Speaker 2: a sat. The correct answer is a SAT. A SAT
- 20:40Speaker 2: which stands for all season, all terrain was first Lights
- 20:45Speaker 2: first camera pattern. I texted with Kent and Caruth, one
- 20:48Speaker 2: of First Lights founders, to make sure I had this right.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I asked him why a SAT? He replied, well, we
- 20:54Speaker 2: liked a SAT and Predator the best. An Asat called
- 20:58Speaker 2: us back first. That's how it happens when you're a
- 21:02Speaker 2: young company.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Is a said the one that just looks like branches
- 21:06Speaker 5: kind of. It's just like it's almost.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Like a yeah. Some people would say almost.
- 21:10Speaker 1: It's like three colors.
- 21:12Speaker 6: A bad tribal tattoo.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Was awful described Sure, you're just gonna go hide in
- 21:19Speaker 2: a cat tail marsh.
- 21:22Speaker 9: In the summer of twenty eleven, I placed an order
- 21:26Speaker 9: for a bunch of first Light product in.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Uh real tree, I believe, And I got a call.
- 21:32Speaker 9: Saying, hey, all that stuff is out of stock, but
- 21:36Speaker 9: what you're gonna want is this A tat stuff.
- 21:41Speaker 8: Was on the other end of the line, and he said,
- 21:43Speaker 8: he said, Oh, I see you're in Missoula.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I used to live in Missoula. I said, oh cool.
- 21:48Speaker 5: And then years later I remembered that was cal a
- 21:51Speaker 5: a hot dog stand.
- 21:52Speaker 1: No, no, we met. We introduced ourselves the first time
- 21:55Speaker 1: at a hot dog stanwn.
- 21:55Speaker 5: Okay.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I'm personally a big fan of a SAT and I
- 21:59Speaker 2: think that a pattern suffered from simply not being hip
- 22:03Speaker 2: enough to the human eye, where a lot of other
- 22:06Speaker 2: patterns that do not break you up as well as
- 22:09Speaker 2: ASAT does don't work. And is the variety of terrains
- 22:13Speaker 2: that ASAT does have sold way more items of clothing
- 22:18Speaker 2: whatever that's been put on because we as humans just.
- 22:21Speaker 5: Like it better.
- 22:23Speaker 6: You used to say fashion over function.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I'm a function guy. I would use it if it
- 22:32Speaker 2: was still available.
- 22:33Speaker 5: It's like fishing lures that catch fishermen, not fish.
- 22:36Speaker 2: That's okay. On to question number three, A brace of
- 22:45Speaker 2: birds is how many? So I'm asking you to tell
- 22:51Speaker 2: me how many birds would be in a brace of birds?
- 22:58Speaker 2: What's the category hunting?
- 23:05Speaker 5: Hmmm?
- 23:07Speaker 1: Interesting?
- 23:07Speaker 2: I thought this would be a little bit too brody.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Had it very quickly. You've never heard the term brace?
- 23:16Speaker 1: No, oh, I've heard it, Reva.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Nope. Cal certainly has the upland hunter that he is.
- 23:30Speaker 6: Oh yeah, but I didn't know that. Yeah, I don't.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I don't know what it is. Oh gosh, this one has.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Actually I've kicked it down the I have a little
- 23:39Speaker 2: notes thing in my phone with all my trivia questions,
- 23:42Speaker 2: and when they come to me, I pop them in there. Now.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I've kicked this one down before because I thought everybody's
- 23:47Speaker 2: going to know this one. So I'm glad I pulled
- 23:49Speaker 2: it out.
- 23:51Speaker 4: I like it.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Again. Question three, A brace of birds is how many?
- 24:00Speaker 4: Let's have it wrong.
- 24:02Speaker 5: Good on you, Yanni, saying the question again Okay, that's
- 24:07Speaker 5: good hosting.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Okay, thank you. I like feedback from hosting, So listeners
- 24:13Speaker 2: out there, you know, in the comments, throw it down. No,
- 24:17Speaker 2: Logan Williamson took the time to send me a quick
- 24:21Speaker 2: text and say that he thought that last week's Mediator
- 24:25Speaker 2: Radio Live was well hosted.
- 24:27Speaker 5: I was very appreciable. Now I'm offended, but Logan's never
- 24:30Speaker 5: texted me there.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Well, yeah, but you set the bar, you know, and
- 24:35Speaker 2: so it's hard to be thank Yeah. I just I
- 24:40Speaker 2: just had a shining moment, you know, good laughing.
- 24:44Speaker 11: Roman say, we get a decent amount of emails talking
- 24:46Speaker 11: about hosts, but I don't know if I should share
- 24:48Speaker 11: that feedbae.
- 24:51Speaker 2: All right, everybody have an answer. Those of you that
- 24:53Speaker 2: are going to have one, go ahead and reveal them, please,
- 24:56Speaker 2: Roman eighteen Cal three, Eric four, Ran three, Spencer two,
- 25:01Speaker 2: reave A twenty Brody two. We do have two correct answers.
- 25:05Speaker 2: The answer is two. That's what I have written down first.
- 25:10Speaker 2: But that doesn't make any sense now. I couldn't really
- 25:12Speaker 2: find any interesting flavor text about a brace of birds,
- 25:16Speaker 2: although the term is commonly used in conjunction with the
- 25:20Speaker 2: process of hanging birds, specifically, pheasants. And when I found
- 25:24Speaker 2: too that is that often a brace is not only
- 25:26Speaker 2: a pair, but that it would be one female and
- 25:29Speaker 2: one male, which really wouldn't happen in our country much
- 25:33Speaker 2: with pheasants. I guess if you wrote maybe on a
- 25:35Speaker 2: game farm farm, you can shoot him there. But hank
- 25:38Speaker 2: Shaw wrote a great article on hanging birds on his
- 25:41Speaker 2: website Hunt and Gather cook His takeaway hanging works. You're
- 25:46Speaker 2: gonna get awesome meat, awesome skin. You just got to
- 25:50Speaker 2: do it right, three to seven days at fifty to
- 25:53Speaker 2: fifty five degrees, guts in or out, guts in?
- 25:57Speaker 5: Is this exclusive to upland or would you be like
- 26:00Speaker 5: a brace of mallards came into the decoys.
- 26:03Speaker 2: You can use it for a waterfowl.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Okay, how about Turkey's like abrasive brace?
- 26:08Speaker 2: I mean, I don't see what basically the definition was
- 26:11Speaker 2: any any bird that was shot for like sport or food,
- 26:17Speaker 2: or I've.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Heard it often is like I brought home a.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Brace of birds, brace of pheasants.
- 26:24Speaker 2: There you go.
- 26:25Speaker 6: I don't like the guts in.
- 26:26Speaker 8: Neither do I not with shotgun pellets, busted up guts.
- 26:30Speaker 6: That's the problem is as that as things start to
- 26:34Speaker 6: break down, which the whole point of hanging is, you know,
- 26:39Speaker 6: like letting that carcass start to degrade. If you have
- 26:46Speaker 6: a little pathway created by a pellet that goes from
- 26:51Speaker 6: you know, the good thigh meat or from the breast
- 26:54Speaker 6: meat into the body cavity, the pressure of that bird
- 26:59Speaker 6: breaking down, even at fifty degrees is going to get
- 27:03Speaker 6: that stomach juice up into that meat and render it inedible.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I agree, I pull the guts out there. You go
- 27:12Speaker 2: appreciate the input. Cal pull he Gala says, pull the
- 27:15Speaker 2: guts out all right. On the question four, This one
- 27:21Speaker 2: is also in the hunting category. What does the acronym
- 27:28Speaker 2: dope stand for when used in shooting? Randall as I thought,
- 27:35Speaker 2: would be quick to write an answer.
- 27:36Speaker 5: I think we've had this question before.
- 27:39Speaker 2: I really don't think we have spencer. Nah, we'll be
- 27:43Speaker 2: from China spreadsheet. Yeah, we're still having fun, right, Noman's thinking,
- 27:49Speaker 2: calous thinking, what does.
- 27:56Speaker 1: The acronym dope when used in shooting stand for?
- 27:59Speaker 9: Thanks Randal, I got some real the first time I host,
- 28:03Speaker 9: at least writing. I saw a lot of really nasty
- 28:06Speaker 9: comments about how I didn't repeat the question.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they said, how stupid do you have to
- 28:11Speaker 1: be to not read him twice?
- 28:15Speaker 10: I just I just command f the spreadsheet Spencer, and
- 28:18Speaker 10: I did not find anything.
- 28:19Speaker 5: Okay, what this is? Oh? Oh, maybe it's appeared in
- 28:25Speaker 5: a crossword. Maybe that's could be why I know I've
- 28:29Speaker 5: read it somewhere. Next week Randal is hosting, so if yes,
- 28:34Speaker 5: you give some feedback to him to prime your feedback.
- 28:37Speaker 5: That's right.
- 28:38Speaker 2: And now, Randall, my flavor text is basically throwing this
- 28:42Speaker 2: to you. So you have now a few seconds to
- 28:45Speaker 2: prepare as we write their answer.
- 28:48Speaker 8: So you wrote the question knowing he would get it
- 28:50Speaker 8: right and have something to say about it.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Heck, you look, how well.
- 28:53Speaker 4: I don't know about that Spencer's.
- 28:56Speaker 1: What's your three dimensional Chessi's play?
- 29:00Speaker 5: I mean, it's better than asking about first lights verse
- 29:03Speaker 5: camel pattern to the first Lights Verst employee.
- 29:06Speaker 8: Yeah, you got one in there, like what is my
- 29:11Speaker 8: second son's middle name?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Not quite. I wouldn't know that one, I know, but
- 29:18Speaker 2: you should ask it. Mm hmmm.
- 29:21Speaker 5: Yanni and Randall gracious enough to host for me because
- 29:24Speaker 5: I have some deadlines coming up. One of them was
- 29:26Speaker 5: meat eater turtle, So please again go play that we
- 29:29Speaker 5: worked hard on.
- 29:30Speaker 2: This is it?
- 29:31Speaker 5: You'll enjoy it?
- 29:32Speaker 8: Is it turtle as in the animal or turtle turtles
- 29:37Speaker 8: in the animal shipy turds.
- 29:39Speaker 9: So if you like turtle but you don't like me hosting,
- 29:42Speaker 9: it's just call it even there.
- 29:45Speaker 2: You go, all right, there we have an answer that
- 29:49Speaker 2: is gonna have an answer. Romans shaking and said no,
- 29:52Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers for the acronym dope.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Roman says degrees of elevation, cal says develop of projectile
- 30:04Speaker 2: eject Eric data of precise question mark Randall data on
- 30:11Speaker 2: previous engagement, Spencer data on previous engagement, Reva dial optics,
- 30:16Speaker 2: peep I Brody drop of projectile energy. We do have
- 30:22Speaker 2: a couple correct answers in the room. It is data
- 30:25Speaker 2: on previous engagements Randall. What do you know about dope, well,
- 30:34Speaker 2: previous engagement?
- 30:35Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I mean traditionally so now it's just like
- 30:38Speaker 9: a shorthand for any sort of ballistic information. But you know,
- 30:43Speaker 9: if you are a serious shooter, you write down what
- 30:46Speaker 9: your bullet is doing at any in any given conditions,
- 30:50Speaker 9: at any given distance, and then you.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Have a record of that.
- 30:55Speaker 9: So kids out there, don't just trust your phone if
- 30:58Speaker 9: you're going to shoot something at three hundred fifty yards,
- 31:00Speaker 9: you should have shot a target at three hundred and
- 31:02Speaker 9: fifty yards already, and then you can rely on data
- 31:05Speaker 9: from previous engagements rather than just some number on your phone.
- 31:09Speaker 8: Is being able to hit a paper play at fifty
- 31:11Speaker 8: yards dope?
- 31:12Speaker 1: Nope? Nope, going good enough? It's not dope?
- 31:16Speaker 2: Well, I would say that it is because you know data.
- 31:20Speaker 1: You know that you can hit a paper play at
- 31:22Speaker 1: fifty yards.
- 31:23Speaker 4: That was our dope back in the day.
- 31:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think the day before the season.
- 31:27Speaker 9: I think dope is important because people say dope when
- 31:30Speaker 9: they just pull numbers off their phone.
- 31:33Speaker 1: But if you've never shot at that distance, you don't
- 31:35Speaker 1: actually have real data. It's all hypothetical and toil lead
- 31:40Speaker 1: is in the air.
- 31:41Speaker 2: So and I think you make a really good point
- 31:44Speaker 2: about verifying. Even in the apps, you have to verify.
- 31:48Speaker 2: You can't just go and trust the numbers off the box,
- 31:51Speaker 2: or even if you get the velocity, like anytime we
- 31:54Speaker 2: do that, we then take it out to five hundred
- 31:57Speaker 2: yards and shoot, and rarely is it spot on. You're
- 32:01Speaker 2: still going to make a fine adjustment either to BC
- 32:04Speaker 2: or to velocity or whatever it might be, to really
- 32:06Speaker 2: dial it.
- 32:07Speaker 1: In, and.
- 32:09Speaker 9: I like to shoot a group at eight hundred yards
- 32:15Speaker 9: and see what it's actually like. Shooting once at eight
- 32:17Speaker 9: hundred yards, you might be in your zone of comfort.
- 32:21Speaker 9: But if you shoot three and this one happens to
- 32:23Speaker 9: be top left and the other two are down here,
- 32:26Speaker 9: h your actual point of impact for your.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Group is off your target.
- 32:31Speaker 9: So shoot a lot, shoot often, and pay attention to
- 32:36Speaker 9: what you see on the target.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Don't just wing it.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I used to have that scribble down on a piece
- 32:41Speaker 2: of paper that stuck on a bulletin board. It said,
- 32:43Speaker 2: like shoot more, shoot more often.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you learn a lot.
- 32:47Speaker 2: It's good for you. All right, onto question five. Still
- 32:52Speaker 2: stuck in the hunting category. Rate these four states non
- 32:58Speaker 2: resident white tail deer buck tag prices from most expensive
- 33:03Speaker 2: to cheapest Oklahoma, Ohio, Iowa, and Missouri. Again, it's not
- 33:12Speaker 2: really a question. Rate these four states non resident white
- 33:17Speaker 2: tailed deer buck tags.
- 33:19Speaker 4: All four of these.
- 33:21Speaker 5: I have hunted zero of those, but I'm familiar with
- 33:24Speaker 5: all four.
- 33:25Speaker 4: You haven't hunted.
- 33:26Speaker 5: Iowa, No, I have points. It's on my twenty twenty
- 33:31Speaker 5: seven docket.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Oh I have points too.
- 33:35Speaker 5: When are you going?
- 33:35Speaker 2: Maybe we could go together.
- 33:37Speaker 5: Nah, Okay, where we got? How many points do you have?
- 33:41Speaker 1: And is it a price proposition?
- 33:45Speaker 2: I'm at I'm at four.
- 33:47Speaker 5: Yeah, we're in different we're different categories. You have more
- 33:49Speaker 5: than me. Plus I imagine you're going to want to
- 33:51Speaker 5: do an archery rod hunt and I'm probably gonna want
- 33:53Speaker 5: to do like a December gun hunt.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Oh, I could be uh persuaded.
- 33:58Speaker 5: Okay, figured out after this again?
- 34:02Speaker 2: The question five is rate these four states non resident
- 34:06Speaker 2: white tailed deer buck tag prices from most expensive to cheapest? Oklahoma, Ohio, Iowa,
- 34:13Speaker 2: and Missouri. Does everybody have these four states listed in
- 34:20Speaker 2: order from most expensive to cheapest white tail deer buck
- 34:27Speaker 2: tag non resident prices.
- 34:31Speaker 11: I'm trying to use my data and experience from people
- 34:34Speaker 11: that have written in from our meat eater community.
- 34:38Speaker 2: What are they write in about complaining about how non
- 34:40Speaker 2: resident prices are out of control? Yeah?
- 34:43Speaker 6: I mean if Montana was on that list, wouldn't be
- 34:46Speaker 6: your classic white tail state, but it would be by
- 34:49Speaker 6: far and away the most.
- 34:52Speaker 4: Mmm, unless you count.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Special let's not talk.
- 35:00Speaker 5: You wrote down my guest for the price of the tag?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Oh good? All right?
- 35:05Speaker 5: Some of these states have a reputation reveal your answer.
- 35:10Speaker 6: I wrote it down, didn't want to read.
- 35:11Speaker 2: But it's backwards too. You expect people Ohio, Iowa? What
- 35:17Speaker 2: was the other one? Oklahoma and Missouri. So Missouri is
- 35:20Speaker 2: the cheapest and Missouri is the cheapest. Ohio is the
- 35:22Speaker 2: most expensive. Roman, much more legibly, wrote out, Iowa, Oklahoma, Ohio, Missouri,
- 35:29Speaker 2: Randall Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio. Spencer Oklahoma, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri,
- 35:37Speaker 2: Reva Iowa, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma. Brody Iowa, Oklahoma, Missouri, Ohio.
- 35:45Speaker 1: What are you doing to my boy here?
- 35:47Speaker 6: Oh might be too short?
- 35:50Speaker 2: Okay, maybe your your board might have been behind your hair.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Eric wrote down, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma. I believe Phil,
- 36:00Speaker 2: we have one correct a. You have one correct answer.
- 36:02Speaker 2: It is Oklahoma, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri. Spencer Newhart gotta correct.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Oklahoma came in at seven hundred eight dollars, followed by
- 36:13Speaker 2: Iowa at six hundred and forty four, Ohio four hundred,
- 36:18Speaker 2: and Missouri at two hundred eighty eight. I was surprised
- 36:22Speaker 2: to read how many states have white tail deer tags
- 36:24Speaker 2: over five hundred. I'm used to paying two hundred in Wisconsin,
- 36:29Speaker 2: which is now I feel like a heck of a deal.
- 36:31Speaker 5: And is that is that like a benefit of being No, no, no,
- 36:34Speaker 5: that's just standard price Montana like Calus saying seven hundred
- 36:39Speaker 5: and fifty nine.
- 36:41Speaker 6: Who But another fun thing though, is like in Oklahoma
- 36:47Speaker 6: that's three deer. I think you get one buck and
- 36:49Speaker 6: two does with that purchase?
- 36:52Speaker 2: So true that? Yeah, amongst all this stuff, there's a
- 36:55Speaker 2: lot of different variants about how many deer three you
- 36:58Speaker 2: might get.
- 36:59Speaker 5: Well, you're also required, like have a small game license,
- 37:02Speaker 5: and I.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Try to mastivate it for the prices, like what it
- 37:05Speaker 2: would minimum take to go hunting, and that's this is
- 37:09Speaker 2: what I came up with.
- 37:10Speaker 6: How many deer can you shoot in Missouri with a deer?
- 37:13Speaker 6: It's just a deer license, right? Or do you have
- 37:15Speaker 6: a tag?
- 37:17Speaker 5: I'm not familiar enough, but they have a reputation for
- 37:20Speaker 5: some of the cheapest tags.
- 37:21Speaker 2: I'm in Ohio. The cheapest one I could find was
- 37:25Speaker 2: Pennsylvania right underd bucks. Yeah, like a couple of dollars
- 37:29Speaker 2: over one hundred. Incredible, And that's too cheap. With a
- 37:31Speaker 2: bunch of other stuff that's too cheap, I'd say, man,
- 37:34Speaker 2: They're like, come on down.
- 37:36Speaker 4: They have a million resident hunters. So I just don't
- 37:39Speaker 4: it's like, you know what I mean.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Oh, they're not looking at it like as a real
- 37:44Speaker 2: source of red avenue because people are like, they're like buyer.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Beware one last thing here if you're looking to get
- 37:53Speaker 2: the best bang for your butt when heading out of
- 37:56Speaker 2: state to hunt white tails, retoting Peterson's article how to
- 37:59Speaker 2: find the best value in non resident white tail tags
- 38:03Speaker 2: at the meat eater dot com. All right, that was
- 38:06Speaker 2: question five. So now we have a scoreboard update, Phil. Yeah,
- 38:12Speaker 2: I'm excited to see this. Cuncer seems to do pretty good.
- 38:17Speaker 2: When I hope he does. I would call it suspicious,
- 38:19Speaker 2: but I know he has not seen the all Right,
- 38:21Speaker 2: still without a correct answer, we have Riva and Eric
- 38:26Speaker 2: go and take it away on Oh sorry, that's fine.
- 38:28Speaker 2: I don't care is drink.
- 38:35Speaker 10: I mean from what I heard that that sounded great,
- 38:37Speaker 10: better than what I do. Eric and Reva yet to
- 38:40Speaker 10: make it on the board with zero points, coming up
- 38:42Speaker 10: next to Roman and Cal with one point apiece. Our
- 38:45Speaker 10: usual champs, Randall and Brody are tied up in Uh well,
- 38:50Speaker 10: I remember I remember the Spencer where there was an
- 38:51Speaker 10: argument I said, I would say tight up in second place.
- 38:53Speaker 10: They're actually tied up in third place? Uh, and then
- 38:56Speaker 10: in first place when they have two points apiece and
- 38:59Speaker 10: in first place two points ahead of them is Spencer Newhart.
- 39:01Speaker 8: The four points that was with Randal having a question
- 39:05Speaker 8: written specifically for him.
- 39:07Speaker 5: I think.
- 39:10Speaker 10: For a second, no, I got yelled at by someone
- 39:13Speaker 10: online and I looked it up, like if you have
- 39:15Speaker 10: someone in first place and then the next people that
- 39:18Speaker 10: are down, you see.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I think I think we're tied for second, but Roman
- 39:22Speaker 1: and Call are tied for fourth.
- 39:24Speaker 5: I agree.
- 39:25Speaker 2: M hmm.
- 39:25Speaker 4: What do they do in the Olympics when someone ties?
- 39:28Speaker 10: It's the way I just explained it. Hey, everyone filled
- 39:33Speaker 10: the engineer here piping in before I get yelled at
- 39:35Speaker 10: by strangers on the internet to say that, yes, as
- 39:39Speaker 10: per usual, Randal Williams is right and I am, as
- 39:41Speaker 10: they say, a big dumb idiot. Randall and Brody are
- 39:44Speaker 10: tied up in second place. Then it skips a spot.
- 39:47Speaker 10: Roman and Call are tied up in fourth. Just to
- 39:50Speaker 10: clarify these very important details, now back to the show.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I agree with Brody, Phil right, thank you all right? Bill,
- 39:57Speaker 2: help me a little bit on this question, Phil, barely
- 40:02Speaker 2: Question number six could also kind of fall into conservation,
- 40:08Speaker 2: but it's a hunting question. Kiveot is the soft underwool
- 40:14Speaker 2: of what animal? Randalls or conservation? Yeah, I don't know.
- 40:23Speaker 1: It's the same category we've been in the whole time. Spencer,
- 40:26Speaker 1: back off.
- 40:26Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be a dead animal.
- 40:29Speaker 8: It's actually textiles is the category the question?
- 40:35Speaker 2: Again? Is kiveot spelled q I V I U T
- 40:41Speaker 2: is the soft underwool of what animal? Spencer, do you
- 40:46Speaker 2: have an answer?
- 40:46Speaker 1: I do, great, Phil, How did you help with this one?
- 40:49Speaker 1: Is it? Was it a phrasing issue?
- 40:53Speaker 10: It was just like a way a weight now I
- 40:55Speaker 10: would say I was gonna say no. It was a
- 40:57Speaker 10: way to phrase the question, which would make it a
- 40:58Speaker 10: phrasing issue anybody else.
- 41:00Speaker 6: The feeling that Spencer is a little overconfident in this game,
- 41:06Speaker 6: almost as if he was like, I need to proof your.
- 41:11Speaker 5: What it feels like Bill funneled the answers, although I
- 41:15Speaker 5: think Spencer has a very high win ratio because of
- 41:19Speaker 5: the very few times that he's played.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Looking to add to that, does everybody have an answer? Roman,
- 41:30Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers, Roman says Bison cow
- 41:33Speaker 2: muskox Eric dahlsh Spencer slipped up Randall muskock, Spencer Bison,
- 41:39Speaker 2: Reva sheep, Brody Muskox. The correct answer is muscot sitting
- 41:44Speaker 2: right next to it, Spencer, Spencer.
- 41:49Speaker 7: Spencer can actually smell the I've been trying to get
- 41:56Speaker 7: Steve to harvest the kivot from that muskox hide since
- 41:59Speaker 7: the day he shot it, because when we were on
- 42:02Speaker 7: Nunivak to hunt that muskox, the guide had this like
- 42:06Speaker 7: liner beanie made of kidiot And I've never put on
- 42:11Speaker 7: anything softer.
- 42:12Speaker 2: It's like cashmere on crack. I hope that's a good analogy.
- 42:16Speaker 2: You've ever touched or had a cashmere sweater? Extremely soft
- 42:20Speaker 2: and you're on crack, steroids, steroids. It's just extremely soft
- 42:28Speaker 2: and literally it made your head like radiate with warmth
- 42:31Speaker 2: when you put it on. And uh. I tried to
- 42:36Speaker 2: buy it off the guide and he uh and he refused.
- 42:41Speaker 2: I think I offered him like three hundred bucks. Yeah.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Now listen, if you guys want to hear a longer
- 42:47Speaker 2: story about buying hats on Nunivak Island, I'm happy to
- 42:50Speaker 2: tell it right now, or we can move on. I'm
- 42:52Speaker 2: not watching the clock.
- 42:53Speaker 10: We're already past the average trivia length.
- 42:59Speaker 2: On question.
- 43:01Speaker 6: Was the great Millinery Trader of the.
- 43:04Speaker 10: Noology to the listeners that extra ad break you heard
- 43:07Speaker 10: earlier in the show.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Okay, that was question six. Onto question seven, little pop
- 43:16Speaker 2: culture for you suckers. What two thousand movie features Hubert
- 43:22Speaker 2: the Bloodhound and his owner Harlan Pepper? What two thousand
- 43:32Speaker 2: movie features Hubert the Bloodhound? Want this movie? Owner, Harlan Pepper?
- 43:38Speaker 2: I was hoping we'd have a fan in the room.
- 43:41Speaker 2: You'll be able to help me with the flavored text love?
- 43:44Speaker 11: Is this a movie that would be reviewed in media
- 43:47Speaker 11: Radio Live?
- 43:50Speaker 5: Don't give a hint.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Yeah, let's not answer that. Brody Randall's writing broke does
- 43:57Speaker 2: not have an answer. Reva, no, nothing, No.
- 44:04Speaker 6: It is a great show.
- 44:07Speaker 2: It is a great great movie. Yeah, show movie. We
- 44:11Speaker 2: just watched its great media. We just we just watched
- 44:14Speaker 2: it this weekend with our kids.
- 44:17Speaker 6: What the kids think they're into it?
- 44:20Speaker 2: It's uh, well it's now.
- 44:23Speaker 5: I don't think you'd watch this movie with your kids.
- 44:26Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna talk to that point again. The
- 44:30Speaker 2: question is what two thousand movie features Hubert the Bloodhound
- 44:33Speaker 2: and his owner Harlan Pepper? Mmmm? Kids love dogs, especially bloodhounds,
- 44:44Speaker 2: and they have a hound in the house. So prodi
- 44:49Speaker 2: do you need more time?
- 44:50Speaker 4: I have no idea what it is?
- 44:51Speaker 2: All right, folks, reveal your answers. Roman still writing, Roman,
- 44:58Speaker 2: not gonna give me an answer. Where the red fern
- 45:03Speaker 2: grows col Best in Show, Eric Fox and the Hound Randall, Oh, brother,
- 45:08Speaker 2: we're art that out, Spencer, Patriot Reva without an answer,
- 45:12Speaker 2: Brody Green Mile, We do have a correct answer. It
- 45:16Speaker 2: is best in show.
- 45:18Speaker 5: Never heard of that.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Oh you've seen it.
- 45:21Speaker 6: Good, I've seen it. I wasn't even thinking that.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, we watched it with the kids. Everything is cool.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Besides the sexual innuendos. Back in two thousand, like it,
- 45:35Speaker 2: it just wasn't a thing that you couldn't do those
- 45:38Speaker 2: kind of jokes, and so it's just constant, like you
- 45:41Speaker 2: couldn't do comedy without just constant sexual innuendos. So that's
- 45:45Speaker 2: a part of it. But the all the dogs and
- 45:48Speaker 2: the characters amazing.
- 45:49Speaker 6: Flick Well, the creator, his uh production company is called
- 45:58Speaker 6: Pale Morning Done. He's a big fly fisherman comes you know,
- 46:02Speaker 6: spends a bunch of time in Montana. So that was
- 46:05Speaker 6: kind of like a thing in the fly Fishing Guiding
- 46:07Speaker 6: World is like you're talking about Christopher Guests. Christopher Guest
- 46:10Speaker 6: really had no idea. Well, don't you remember the scene
- 46:13Speaker 6: where they're talking about he goes he meets with his
- 46:16Speaker 6: crew because he's like the one southern guy on there,
- 46:19Speaker 6: like the right he plays, Yes, he plays Harlan Pepper.
- 46:24Speaker 10: Yeah, he's he's it's the same crew that did this
- 46:26Speaker 10: is spinal tap waiting for Guffman and I might win and.
- 46:29Speaker 6: Waiting for Guffman's absolutely fantastic too.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, I don't see them. Treat yourself, okay, I
- 46:36Speaker 2: will kid appropriate.
- 46:40Speaker 6: Probably you're going to have the exact same experience.
- 46:42Speaker 10: They're they're all they're all like writing the line between PG.
- 46:46Speaker 10: Thirteen and R. I don't think any of them are
- 46:47Speaker 10: like that that bad though. All right, well, Hubert Bloodhound,
- 46:53Speaker 10: remember I sent you all right on the question eight.
- 46:56Speaker 6: I've never liked Wimer Writers and best in Show.
- 47:00Speaker 2: I was like, just a good example, why didn't you
- 47:04Speaker 2: like them?
- 47:05Speaker 6: They're just not a good dog? Go ahead and right, Yeah.
- 47:11Speaker 8: I had some good friends that had a couple of them,
- 47:14Speaker 8: and they are just horrible dogs. Dumb, don't listen, aggressive,
- 47:19Speaker 8: and weird way yeah, Like do.
- 47:21Speaker 5: You know the premise best and show? I assume it's
- 47:24Speaker 5: about a dog show.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Yeah, right, And but they just do this amazing job
- 47:29Speaker 2: of taking these dogs and then making these owners slash
- 47:33Speaker 2: trainers be like they are the dog kind of a thing,
- 47:37Speaker 2: like whatever the dog is, so it is their owner handler. Yeah,
- 47:40Speaker 2: and it's yeah.
- 47:42Speaker 8: The only reason people own those dogs because that dude
- 47:45Speaker 8: who uh featured them in like photos.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Poker.
- 47:51Speaker 4: Yeah, all kinds of stupid shit. It's like a thing
- 47:54Speaker 4: for like a.
- 47:55Speaker 8: Period of years, like twenty twenty five year.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Break Question number bond, Question number eight. You guys can
- 48:09Speaker 2: decide what category what six letter term is aviation slang
- 48:17Speaker 2: for the biological remains left behind after a bird strikes
- 48:21Speaker 2: an aircraft, especially a turbine engine. The question is what
- 48:29Speaker 2: six letter term is aviation slang for the biological remains
- 48:34Speaker 2: left behind after a bird strikes an aircraft, especially a
- 48:38Speaker 2: turbine engine.
- 48:43Speaker 9: Got this one, Randall, No, I know that I have
- 48:46Speaker 9: it in there somewhere and I'm never going to access it,
- 48:49Speaker 9: So I just wrote something down.
- 48:52Speaker 6: But you know the lady I'm talking about, she's like
- 48:54Speaker 6: super famous now, which is like the way over the.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Top Jennifer Coolidge.
- 48:59Speaker 6: Jennifer cool Yes, yeah, she's in the Christopher Guest movie.
- 49:03Speaker 10: Eugene Levy and Katherine her Hair, who are now super
- 49:05Speaker 10: famous among young people because of Ship's Creek.
- 49:07Speaker 2: They're they're in all those movies.
- 49:08Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, and they're great.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Great show, great show. Yeah, one for the kids. That's right,
- 49:15Speaker 1: younger generation.
- 49:20Speaker 5: Cal you were confident you know this?
- 49:23Speaker 6: Yes, oh God, making a late late game run on Randy, right.
- 49:31Speaker 6: I know it's getting tense now and typically kind of
- 49:33Speaker 6: falls apart under pressure like this.
- 49:35Speaker 2: It's going to be really this is question eight. How
- 49:37Speaker 2: do you guys feel up to this point? For uh
- 49:40Speaker 2: Mark good? Good? The level of questions, the difficulty too hard,
- 49:46Speaker 2: too easy?
- 49:47Speaker 6: I just the real relaxing flow in here right now.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Okay, go ahead, reveal your answers. It's time to hurry up.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Romans says Snarge, cow Storge Eric without an answer, Randall
- 49:59Speaker 2: says slop Spencer carry in Reva Sky killed. Brody says Jetsum.
- 50:06Speaker 2: The correct answer is Snarge. Listen to The Meat Eater
- 50:11Speaker 2: Podcast episode four hundred and seventeen, where we interview Megan
- 50:17Speaker 2: Danen USDA Airport Wildlife Biologists about snarch and all the
- 50:21Speaker 2: other crazy stuff she deals with in her job.
- 50:24Speaker 6: I thought that was gonna be a gimme. I think
- 50:26Speaker 6: I thought that word made it around the.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Office, but it's been a while it didn't. Yeah, we
- 50:32Speaker 2: didn't keep it in our Would lexicon be the term
- 50:36Speaker 2: good job? Okay? That was question eight. So now we
- 50:40Speaker 2: need a scoreboard update.
- 50:41Speaker 10: Phil, Yeah, Cal is making a late game breakout here.
- 50:47Speaker 10: We've still got Eric and Reva. What's zero points? Roman
- 50:51Speaker 10: has two? Brody and randall tied up still with three
- 50:54Speaker 10: points now, but Ryan Callahan has pulled ahead and is
- 50:58Speaker 10: now tied with Spencer, who has not gotten a point
- 51:01Speaker 10: in the last few questions. He still has four, and
- 51:03Speaker 10: now Cal also has four.
- 51:04Speaker 2: I kind of.
- 51:05Speaker 6: Feel like I should be happy, but it's kind of
- 51:07Speaker 6: sad watch and he's too crumble.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Mentally.
- 51:11Speaker 6: Just don't have it, you know.
- 51:13Speaker 2: Okay, On to question nine, A crescent shaped lake in
- 51:20Speaker 2: an abandoned abandoned loop of river channel.
- 51:24Speaker 5: Is called what this one?
- 51:26Speaker 2: I think we have?
- 51:27Speaker 1: We have had this one?
- 51:28Speaker 2: Okay, Well you're gonna get it again. I missed that one.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Getting it again. A crescent shaped lake in an abandoned
- 51:35Speaker 2: loop of river channel is called what not a game change?
- 51:39Speaker 4: You're you're honest.
- 51:42Speaker 2: One two three, I don't know. Cals thinks you write
- 51:45Speaker 2: an answer. Oh he's got an answer. Roman not writing,
- 51:51Speaker 2: Reva also not writing. For those of you that are
- 51:56Speaker 2: gonna have an answer, go ahead and flip your boards around.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Cow Oxbow, Randall, Oxbow, Spencer, Oxbow, Lake Brody ox Bow.
- 52:05Speaker 2: They are correct.
- 52:09Speaker 11: Abandoned by what it gets cut off by.
- 52:13Speaker 2: By the rest of the river. During our guiding days
- 52:17Speaker 2: on the Eagle River, actually got to watch one be created.
- 52:20Speaker 2: And I swear to you I was on the river
- 52:23Speaker 2: the day that it started, and I floated through a
- 52:27Speaker 2: chunk of cottonwoods that the river had never gone through.
- 52:30Speaker 2: It was the wildest thing ever. That people are still like,
- 52:32Speaker 2: where should we cast I'm like, you don't understand where
- 52:37Speaker 2: we're supposed to be right now. We're floating through the
- 52:39Speaker 2: forest as opposed to down the main river channel.
- 52:41Speaker 1: It was pretty cool.
- 52:42Speaker 2: You think you were the first one through that, I
- 52:45Speaker 2: mean first ten boats that ever went through there? For sure.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Yeah it's pretty cool. And yeah, well that ox bow
- 52:54Speaker 2: for a while held fish and then it happens with
- 52:56Speaker 2: ox bows. They're cut off and no water coming in
- 53:00Speaker 2: the water going out, and they slowly fill in and
- 53:02Speaker 2: they get hot and no more fishies.
- 53:04Speaker 5: Some of them will keep, I mean, if like it's
- 53:05Speaker 5: a big enough river, become their own little fishery.
- 53:09Speaker 2: But what I was reading is that eventually all of
- 53:11Speaker 2: them will silt in and vegetation will grow in because
- 53:15Speaker 2: if it does not have water fresh water coming in.
- 53:19Speaker 6: Yeah, and there can be like you know, water coming
- 53:21Speaker 6: up from underneath two. And in some of these systems
- 53:24Speaker 6: it's like a reflection or it's the uppermost layer of
- 53:27Speaker 6: the aquaferr type of deal.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Okay, one more scoreboard update, Phil.
- 53:32Speaker 10: Oh, yeah, sorry, I'm getting your I'm getting your tiebreaker
- 53:35Speaker 10: question preps because I'm.
- 53:37Speaker 5: All four ad breaks.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Apologies.
- 53:44Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, like Brody said, not exactly a game
- 53:47Speaker 10: changer for the competition here. We still got Randall and
- 53:50Speaker 10: Brody tied up with four. Now and Calan Spencer have five.
- 53:54Speaker 2: All right, And if you're playing at home, you need
- 53:57Speaker 2: to know the correct answers for number one. It was
- 54:00Speaker 2: twenty four inches. Question two asat question three two, Question
- 54:06Speaker 2: four data on previous engagements, Question five Oklahoma, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri,
- 54:14Speaker 2: Question six, Muskox, Question seven Best in show question eight, Snarge,
- 54:21Speaker 2: question nine, Ox Bowl Lake now question number ten, which,
- 54:27Speaker 2: as we always do here, is fishing. I got a
- 54:32Speaker 2: little laugh there. Bagnell Dam was built across the O
- 54:37Speaker 2: Sage River to make this famous body of water. Bagnell
- 54:45Speaker 2: Dam was built across the O Sage River to make
- 54:49Speaker 2: this famous body of water. Randall riding brody, thinking, Spencer
- 54:59Speaker 2: looking at the question again, col writing down an answer.
- 55:07Speaker 2: Phil still trying to figure out where that noise is
- 55:10Speaker 2: coming from. We're still getting cell phone stuff from somewhere.
- 55:13Speaker 2: But you know it's might be Roman's coffee cup.
- 55:16Speaker 4: Probably famous by what measure? Why is it famous?
- 55:22Speaker 5: Don't say that?
- 55:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I can tell you later.
- 55:24Speaker 1: Am I well known?
- 55:26Speaker 2: Well known? There you go to make this well known
- 55:29Speaker 2: body of water?
- 55:36Speaker 9: Don't say that? Just trying to avoid avoid some embarrassment.
- 55:47Speaker 3: It's too late for that one. I'm gonna get bullied
- 55:50Speaker 3: at work tomorrow.
- 55:51Speaker 2: And now I really want to see it and do
- 55:53Speaker 2: the Steve thing. Just put a line through it. No,
- 55:56Speaker 2: do it, It's gone. Sorry, all right, one last time.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Bagnell Dam was built across the Oa Sage River to
- 56:06Speaker 2: make this well known body of water.
- 56:11Speaker 1: You can say something else, but I know I liked it.
- 56:15Speaker 2: Oh for uh yeah, yeah, say, I.
- 56:22Speaker 1: Don't know what say four?
- 56:26Speaker 2: Don't say that one, but you can all right flip
- 56:32Speaker 2: your boards. Rowan no answer col Lake of the Ozarks,
- 56:35Speaker 2: Eric Canyon, Faerry Randall, Lake of the Ozarks, Spencer Lake
- 56:39Speaker 2: of the Ozarks, Reva Lake of the Ozarks. Yeah on
- 56:42Speaker 2: the board, wow, Sam Rayburn. The correct answer is Lake
- 56:50Speaker 2: of the Ozarks. Bagnell Dam was completed in nineteen thirty
- 56:55Speaker 2: one and is twenty five hundred feet long. Lake of
- 56:58Speaker 2: the Ozarks is known for it's great fishing. March is
- 57:02Speaker 2: the beginning of spoon bill season. These these prehistoric filter
- 57:06Speaker 2: feeders gather in deep holes, making them much easier to target.
- 57:10Speaker 2: Since they don't eat traditional lures, you gotta snag them.
- 57:14Speaker 2: The largest spoon bill to come out of the Lake
- 57:16Speaker 2: of Ozarks was snagged by Chad Williams of Oleitha, Kansas.
- 57:21Speaker 2: It weighed one hundred and sixty four pounds thirteen ounces
- 57:25Speaker 2: and is the current world records. That's a big old fish.
- 57:30Speaker 6: Yeah, spoon bill is a geographical that's differentiator. It's like,
- 57:36Speaker 6: we have spoon bill in Montana that are native to Montana.
- 57:39Speaker 6: But if you said, yeah, I caught a spoon bill.
- 57:41Speaker 6: People would be like, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 57:43Speaker 6: Battlefish country up here.
- 57:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Interestingly, on all the websites I was looking at
- 57:47Speaker 2: around Lake of the Ozarks there, they make a point
- 57:51Speaker 2: to call out both terms all they do.
- 57:54Speaker 5: Yep, so that you know, sometimes you'll hear a combo
- 57:57Speaker 5: with spoon bill catfish. Well here, folks say that, Oh nice,

- 58:41Speaker 10: Spencer Newhart tied up with six points piece.
- 58:45Speaker 5: I'm just gonna sit back.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Oh well, I'm glad I could pitch a game where
- 58:53Speaker 2: neither Randall nor Brody won. Okay, onto the tiebreakers, tyre last.

- 1:00:58Speaker 2: it doesn't look that big. But then when I compare
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: it all to the buck's ear, then all of a sudden,
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: I go, oh, yeah, that's right. That ear is probably
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: and some hints six inches long. And now all of
