- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:04Speaker 1: I'm your host coleeen Wit, and today we have very
- 0:07Speaker 1: special guests, famous YouTuber Alisha Bernie, producer, writer, director Alisha
- 0:13Speaker 1: Bernie is in the building and I'm excited to hear
- 0:16Speaker 1: your story because it's a long journey for you.
- 0:19Speaker 2: It is, it's been a long time.
- 0:20Speaker 3: It's been a long time.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And what are you going to have me eating today
- 0:24Speaker 1: on the show?
- 0:48Speaker 2: I call it good chose like good nachos.
- 0:51Speaker 4: So yeah, basically, whatever you got in the cabinet, I
- 0:54Speaker 4: just combine all four ingredients together.
- 0:57Speaker 3: And what are the ingredients?
- 0:58Speaker 4: Sour cream, sauce. You could use tortilla chips like regular tortillas,
- 1:03Speaker 4: but today we're gonna use Doritos and shreded cheese.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Oh do you usually use tortilla chips or you only
- 1:09Speaker 1: do the thrido cool.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Ranch honestly is whatever chips I can find, but like, yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 4: oh really, any chips.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Any chips, always chips.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Okay, have you ever done it with like Cheetos? M
- 1:19Speaker 1: I don't like Cheetos, not even the puffy one. Oh no,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you're tripping maybe, Okay, we're gonna have to judge this
- 1:26Speaker 1: dish hard, so before well, I guess while you Another
- 1:31Speaker 1: thing I wanted to share with you guys is that
- 1:34Speaker 1: Alicia said that she only usually does this dish in
- 1:37Speaker 1: the microwave yep, which is interesting because I would assume
- 1:40Speaker 1: the chips get hot.
- 1:41Speaker 4: They do, but you don't, like they're not in there
- 1:44Speaker 4: for a long time. It's probably like thirty seconds to
- 1:45Speaker 4: a minute, okay, just to milk the cheese.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And then today you're gonna take one for the team
- 1:49Speaker 1: and cook it on the soap top.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I am, okay, all.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Right, so get into the cooking of the cheese so
- 1:55Speaker 1: I can eat cheese.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:59Speaker 1: And then what was going on around the time when
- 2:01Speaker 1: you're making this dish?
- 2:04Speaker 4: Actually my mouth, I mean my unty. She taught me
- 2:06Speaker 4: how to make this. Like one day I called her.
- 2:08Speaker 4: I was like, I'm hungry because it was never no
- 2:10Speaker 4: food at home. And then she was like asking me, like,
- 2:12Speaker 4: what's all in the house. And then she told me,
- 2:15Speaker 4: like literally to combine these four ingredients.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And how old were you at the time, Probably like nine?
- 2:21Speaker 4: And you know, I can only really cook in the
- 2:23Speaker 4: microwave or else I was gonna get in trouble.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So she was like walking around the house like, hey,
- 2:28Speaker 1: there's some chips here, there's some shredity, and she was like.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Oh, combine all four.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And I was like, okay, now are you a cook
- 2:37Speaker 1: at home by nature?
- 2:38Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, I am. Cooking is like my love language. Okay, okay,
- 2:43Speaker 2: Like if I cook for you, I love you.
- 2:45Speaker 3: When did you start getting into writing and producing?
- 2:49Speaker 2: So?
- 2:50Speaker 4: I started off with sketch comedy. Oh, we should get
- 2:54Speaker 4: our chips ready.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, put a lot of cheese.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I should just cook, cook all the tea. Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 4: But yeah, I started getting started with writing and producing.
- 3:06Speaker 4: I was very young when I started, like doing comedy sketches.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I was like eleven.
- 3:12Speaker 4: I started on Facebook, like I would hack into my
- 3:15Speaker 4: not necessarily hack, but my mom was logged into her
- 3:17Speaker 4: Facebook account on the laptop, so I would log in
- 3:21Speaker 4: there and I would just upload videos of myself to
- 3:24Speaker 4: her Facebook page. Of course I got in trouble. I'm
- 3:27Speaker 4: not supposed to be doing stuff like that. But after
- 3:30Speaker 4: that I just started. I kept going with like the
- 3:32Speaker 4: comedy sketches. Then I was like, I want to like
- 3:34Speaker 4: take it more serious. So last year I write, produced, directed,
- 3:38Speaker 4: and acted in and filmed my own short field and
- 3:42Speaker 4: then ever since then, I just keep like producing films.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But take it back to when you were you said eleven,
- 3:49Speaker 1: when you started, what inspired you to get into comedy?
- 3:52Speaker 1: Even think of comedy sketches?
- 3:54Speaker 4: So my mom she would like always be playing like
- 3:57Speaker 4: Kevin Hart and stuff. I thought he was so funny.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Still to this day, I think he's very funny, and
- 4:02Speaker 4: I don't know. It made me want to like kind
- 4:04Speaker 4: of like be like him because I would always see
- 4:06Speaker 4: him like on the TV. She would just replay the
- 4:08Speaker 4: comedy stuff back to back.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I used to watch this.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Is a commentary on YouTube Trey Melvin. I used to
- 4:14Speaker 4: also watch Delano Edwards, who else is one more other one?
- 4:22Speaker 2: T Pendell.
- 4:23Speaker 4: I used to watch all three of them on YouTube
- 4:25Speaker 4: and then I was like wow, like I wanted to
- 4:27Speaker 4: create content just like them because I thought their content
- 4:29Speaker 4: was so funny.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So it inspired me.
- 4:31Speaker 3: And they were short skits at the time.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Okay, and then what was do you remember like one
- 4:36Speaker 1: of your first skits that actually did well?
- 4:40Speaker 4: It was actually a story time, It wasn't really a skit,
- 4:42Speaker 4: but it popped off my channel. I think it was
- 4:45Speaker 4: types of workers like I just I think I was
- 4:47Speaker 4: like seventeen and how did this git? Like types of workers?
- 4:51Speaker 4: It was just me like pretending to be a worker
- 4:54Speaker 4: and also playing the character as well.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So I played like, yeah, I notice you'll play different characters.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And while you're doing all this, what is your mom
- 5:03Speaker 1: saying about this passion that you're developing.
- 5:07Speaker 4: She wouldn't really say much, like she was just like
- 5:10Speaker 4: I was a kid. She was just like, oh, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 4: like she didn't really say much. But I did have
- 5:15Speaker 4: some people like telling me like.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Oh, you need to stop. Like I don't know. I
- 5:20Speaker 2: was a kid, so I don't know.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Some people was like saying stop because I used to
- 5:25Speaker 4: start like cussing in the skits as well. But then
- 5:27Speaker 4: it's like once they saw it was like working for me,
- 5:30Speaker 4: like making money and like doing you know, beneficial stuff,
- 5:34Speaker 4: everybody kind.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Of like started supporting it. Yeah, okay.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And then what were your friends thinking when you were
- 5:40Speaker 1: getting into that at that age?
- 5:43Speaker 2: I would like forced them to be in stuff like baskets.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Now, when you were doing this, this was before Vine
- 5:49Speaker 1: and all those guys came out, correct, huh.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But I also hopped on the Vine wagon as well.
- 5:54Speaker 1: You did how well did you do on Vine?
- 5:57Speaker 4: By the time, I like really started popping off. I
- 5:59Speaker 4: think I had like thirty thousand followers. I was in
- 6:01Speaker 4: the eighth grade with like thirty thousand followers on vine.
- 6:05Speaker 4: It was people at school like telling me like I'm
- 6:08Speaker 4: full of bs, Like it's never gonna happen for me,
- 6:11Speaker 4: because I would come to school and be like, oh,
- 6:12Speaker 4: everybody subscribed to my YouTube channel. Yeah, they was just
- 6:16Speaker 4: talk stuff. But now it's like all those people they
- 6:19Speaker 4: support now wow.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Now where were you at when you got your first
- 6:25Speaker 1: check from YouTube?
- 6:27Speaker 2: I was at home.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I remember my first big check, actually my first check
- 6:31Speaker 4: in general. What grade was that I was in the
- 6:34Speaker 4: It was senior year of high school and I got
- 6:36Speaker 4: like a five hundred dollars check.
- 6:37Speaker 2: And to me, that's a lot because I was working
- 6:39Speaker 2: at the time at highv Do you know how he is? No,
- 6:41Speaker 2: I was like a grocery store in Missouri.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Okay, well you're not even from out here.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Where are you from? Kansas City? Okay? Kansas City? Kansas
- 6:49Speaker 2: City be coming up on this show a couple of times. Okay, yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 2: I saw Bobby was on here Kansas City too.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, he he's an interesting interview. I don't know
- 6:58Speaker 1: if you heard it. Yet, but yeah, he's interesting. So
- 7:01Speaker 1: you're in Kansas City, You're in the twelfth grade, and
- 7:04Speaker 1: at what point did you get the notification from YouTube
- 7:08Speaker 1: to monetize the channel.
- 7:11Speaker 4: So I started YouTube at a very young age, and
- 7:13Speaker 4: the rules were like different. My channel was monetized since
- 7:16Speaker 4: I was like sixteen, but I wasn't making any money because.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I didn't have any views like look at the time.
- 7:21Speaker 4: But then when I finally got views and stuff, they
- 7:25Speaker 4: gave me my first five hundred dollars check in the
- 7:26Speaker 4: twelfth grade.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I was so happy. And then I was like it
- 7:29Speaker 2: was in twenty twenty when covid had hit.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I transferred colleges, and I was just so like depressed,
- 7:35Speaker 4: and I was like praying to God. I was a
- 7:36Speaker 4: god like like if you give me enough money, like
- 7:40Speaker 4: I literally leave Missouri and I'll move to la like
- 7:42Speaker 4: to pursue my dreams.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Like that's all I really wanted at the time.
- 7:45Speaker 4: So that next month, I got a twenty five hundred
- 7:48Speaker 4: dollars check. Twenty five hundred is a lot from like you.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Taking but at this point, you're you're in college, you're
- 7:55Speaker 1: not your past high school. So you get your five
- 7:56Speaker 1: hundred dollars check, and you're what are you going to.
- 7:59Speaker 2: College for digital media production? Okay?
- 8:02Speaker 3: And at this.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Point, are you still recording on iPhones or are you
- 8:04Speaker 1: buying your own equipment?
- 8:06Speaker 2: How are you?
- 8:08Speaker 4: I would record on my iPhone? Like, I never bought
- 8:11Speaker 4: equipment till this year. Till I moved here. I started
- 8:14Speaker 4: taking everything more serious.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, you may want to put that in that
- 8:20Speaker 2: bowl or something. Uh?
- 8:22Speaker 1: Okay, are you ready to dump the cheese? Let's do it,
- 8:26Speaker 1: let's do it?
- 8:27Speaker 2: Make make hood hood shows? Yeah, hood shows? Okay, hood
- 8:32Speaker 2: shows not chose?
- 8:33Speaker 1: All right?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Chose? Okay, So first you mean to make yours? Yeah?
- 8:38Speaker 3: Oh, I didn't know if you dump it in the
- 8:40Speaker 3: bowl or how you're going to do it?
- 8:42Speaker 2: Oh? Should we do that?
- 8:43Speaker 1: No?
- 8:44Speaker 2: I don't even.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Okay, okay, hair just go ahead. Let me here, I'll
- 8:47Speaker 3: do it.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Okay. Just a bunch of chips, right, okay, and then
- 8:50Speaker 2: just lay them out. It's like spread them out? Okay? Perfect?
- 8:58Speaker 3: Then what we dump the cheese?
- 9:00Speaker 2: But let me get some more.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Yeah, we gotta put a.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Lot get into hood choes hood chose y'all make this
- 9:06Speaker 2: whenever y'all are hungry and high, don't forget to turn
- 9:11Speaker 2: off that stove. Oh, yes, I don't want to burn
- 9:13Speaker 2: mess off.
- 9:17Speaker 3: We don't want you to burn yourself.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow, that's it, And that's how the cheese comes out.
- 9:22Speaker 2: That's thick. That is thick. All this oil that's in cheese.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So while you're in college, you're praying for this window
- 9:36Speaker 1: of opportunity, but you're in Missouri.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Still, I'm just gonna dump this. Oh yeah, it's very oily.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Yeah is that how it usually comes out when it's
- 9:45Speaker 1: out of the microwave?
- 9:46Speaker 2: No, okay, you can put this back on that stove.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Oh I don't know what I was doing. I'm glad.
- 9:54Speaker 3: That would have been the first life burn on the show.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Okay, so salsam, I'm gonna lad their mind and then
- 10:01Speaker 1: what sorry. Yeah, so you're in college, you're praying for
- 10:07Speaker 1: a miracle, but you do know that your end results
- 10:10Speaker 1: is you want to come to Los Angeles.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Yes, so my dad he moved here, like when I
- 10:14Speaker 4: was like two, and he was out here. He was
- 10:16Speaker 4: pursuing his dreams of becoming like a comedian, also like
- 10:19Speaker 4: writing directing as well, y'all, this is what it looks like.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it looks good.
- 10:24Speaker 2: It looks official.
- 10:26Speaker 1: So he's pursuing his dreams and is he telling you
- 10:29Speaker 1: like the whole time, like you.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Should come to LA?
- 10:31Speaker 2: And yeah he was. But was your mom with it?
- 10:36Speaker 4: No, not at all, which I'm glad everything played out
- 10:42Speaker 4: the way it did. I wanted to move there here
- 10:44Speaker 4: when I was younger because I just love the idea
- 10:47Speaker 4: of LA. Because did you.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Did you come and visit before when your dad was here?
- 10:52Speaker 2: I visited first for a cruise and then I got
- 10:54Speaker 2: a while naw had hit me up.
- 10:57Speaker 4: They were like, we want you to come down and
- 10:58Speaker 4: audition and wanted the little It was either I think
- 11:01Speaker 4: New York, Atlanta, and then it.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Was LA and that was like day directly hits you
- 11:05Speaker 3: up and you're in college.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I was nineteen when they hit me up.
- 11:08Speaker 3: I was like, so you were making little waves.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yeah. I started coming up before. The cheese pretty good.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Mm hmmm. I feel like the cheese is stick though
- 11:19Speaker 2: it is thick. I like this though.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Do you like it that thick?
- 11:25Speaker 2: Hm hmm. I like it better than the microwave. But
- 11:29Speaker 2: I like it in the sow too.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest, these hood shows would taste good
- 11:35Speaker 1: with just the sauceed and the SOUTHCN.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Don't you think so?
- 11:40Speaker 2: I agree.
- 11:40Speaker 3: I don't even think you need the cheese.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I don't think I'll ever eat the rito's playing again
- 11:46Speaker 1: because this is amazing.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 11:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna take one more.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Okay, shows made up really affordable dish fun snaps.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the best meal on the show. That's so.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we're not gonna say that, but we're gonna give
- 12:06Speaker 1: it a ten out of a ten.
- 12:08Speaker 2: So it's up there. Am I the runner up?
- 12:10Speaker 1: Though, you'll run her up like this is definitely good,
- 12:12Speaker 1: Like we've had the nachos, the dorito nachos, but as
- 12:16Speaker 1: far as simplicity, a couple of minutes to make I
- 12:19Speaker 1: really like it with the salsa and just the sober.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Him though sometimes I do that if I have doritos,
- 12:23Speaker 4: I'll just put to our cream.
- 12:26Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Never ever thought to do this ever. So wil'n Out
- 12:31Speaker 1: hits you up. So you're getting it. Seems like you're
- 12:33Speaker 1: getting signs that you should be. You're going in the
- 12:36Speaker 1: right direction. Parents are all supportive. Yeah at this point,
- 12:41Speaker 1: all right, so take me on to the next chapter.
- 12:44Speaker 1: So do you do you do the wild'n Out audition?
- 12:47Speaker 2: I did, but at.
- 12:48Speaker 4: The time, I was nineteen, so everybody's like when I
- 12:50Speaker 4: went there, when I'm around people, I don't know, I'm
- 12:53Speaker 4: not thinking like, oh, this opportunity could change my life.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I'm just shy, like because I'm nineteen. These people were like.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Way older to me, Like they have very big personalities.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Like if the auditions everybody was loud, it seemed like
- 13:04Speaker 4: they kind of knew each other as well. So I
- 13:06Speaker 4: was just sitting there like just very like shy and timid.
- 13:10Speaker 4: I didn't really say too much, and I feel like
- 13:11Speaker 4: I didn't show much of my personality. I didn't make it,
- 13:15Speaker 4: but well obviously, but yeah, I feel if I could
- 13:19Speaker 4: redo it, I would wish that they would hit me
- 13:22Speaker 4: up at an older age because I feel like that
- 13:25Speaker 4: I have the confidence now back then I didn't.
- 13:28Speaker 3: What was your following at the time when they hit
- 13:30Speaker 3: you up.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I think I was at two hundred k on on Instagram.
- 13:39Speaker 3: And then on YouTube. Now YouTube is where you make
- 13:43Speaker 3: most of your money.
- 13:44Speaker 4: But I wasn't popping on YouTube back then, so I
- 13:46Speaker 4: feel like they filed me on Instagram.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Okay, what was your YouTube following when you made the
- 13:50Speaker 1: like twenty five hundred dollars check.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Oh, it started skyrocket ick.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Problem. So that was the year of twenty twenty. This
- 14:13Speaker 4: was October when I made the twenty five hundred. So
- 14:15Speaker 4: in December I hit one hundred k on YouTube. So
- 14:18Speaker 4: I'm not sure where I was in October, maybe like
- 14:20Speaker 4: eighty k. I think I was in eighty thousand, but
- 14:23Speaker 4: I was coming up like that's when I popped off.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Like some people they would meet me and be like, oh,
- 14:27Speaker 4: the quarantine queen. It was like that's when my channel.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Was boring up during quarantine. And were you doing any
- 14:33Speaker 1: day jobs during quarantine? How are you surviving?
- 14:36Speaker 2: I wasn't just social media, really, that's it.
- 14:39Speaker 1: So how are you Were you getting paid enough to
- 14:41Speaker 1: survive on social media?
- 14:43Speaker 2: Well I lived with my mom.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Well I lived on campus, but like when I would
- 14:46Speaker 4: go home, I would be with my mom.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So all right, good, So you were good. So what
- 14:51Speaker 1: were your checks consistent? Like are they monthly or yeah?
- 14:54Speaker 4: Once a month. I was getting also paid from like promos.
- 14:59Speaker 4: People would pay me to like post their businesses on
- 15:01Speaker 4: my account.
- 15:02Speaker 2: What else? That's really it.
- 15:04Speaker 4: I did have jobs here and there. I was always
- 15:06Speaker 4: getting fired though, Like I worked at a hotel, but where.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Were you getting fired from? Like why, Yeah, I don't know.
- 15:13Speaker 3: You just weren't into it, You weren't passionate about it.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 1: So you're continuing with your YouTube channel and your social
- 15:19Speaker 1: media right now, you have almost a million subscribers on YouTube,
- 15:22Speaker 1: which is a huge fee. Says you started your channel
- 15:25Speaker 1: in twenty thirteen. What was like the hardest hiccup in
- 15:30Speaker 1: that journey? Were there hard like moments like even coming up?
- 15:34Speaker 1: Did you feel the pressure to come up with content?
- 15:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that's kind of how I feel right now. So
- 15:40Speaker 4: at first, everything came to me naturally, like I would
- 15:42Speaker 4: just upload like once a month, which is not consistent
- 15:45Speaker 4: at all. Sometimes I'll go like three months without uploading,
- 15:47Speaker 4: but I would just I had my channel just for fun,
- 15:51Speaker 4: like I was creative, so I wanted to like showcase that,
- 15:56Speaker 4: and of course I want to followers too, or subscribers.
- 16:01Speaker 2: But it became hard.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Like when everybody wanted me to start posting work consistently,
- 16:05Speaker 4: because I wasn't used to it.
- 16:06Speaker 1: When you say everybody, like fans were reaching out like
- 16:09Speaker 1: when's your next post?
- 16:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like dang, like it's getting real.
- 16:13Speaker 4: So I have to post like once a week and
- 16:15Speaker 4: I just graduated college.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Like last May.
- 16:18Speaker 4: So when I was in school, I had work due,
- 16:21Speaker 4: but I know I had the post so I was like, dang,
- 16:23Speaker 4: like I have a lot too.
- 16:25Speaker 3: And then at this point, like how consistent are the checks?
- 16:29Speaker 2: I went just to once a month? Once a month,
- 16:31Speaker 2: but the size of the checks.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Are they go up and down? Like my biggest check
- 16:35Speaker 4: that I got one month was forty thousand.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Never seen forty Yeah.
- 16:39Speaker 3: What they happened?
- 16:40Speaker 2: Again?
- 16:41Speaker 1: You know?
- 16:42Speaker 3: That was one time.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I was like, but that was during that time I
- 16:45Speaker 2: was coming up.
- 16:46Speaker 3: So but was that during the pandemic.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It was in twenty twenty one.
- 16:51Speaker 1: So that's right after the pandemic. Oh my gosh. So
- 16:54Speaker 1: what did you do with the money?
- 16:58Speaker 2: I didn't do anything like big, I just kind of
- 17:00Speaker 2: kept it. Do you still have it?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Kind of?
- 17:03Speaker 2: Well? Did you? Yeah? Yeah?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Okay, so you're you're managing your money. Now do you
- 17:08Speaker 1: have when you get checks like that? Like who was
- 17:10Speaker 1: the first person you called? And did you did you
- 17:12Speaker 1: know that check was a arriving and or does it
- 17:14Speaker 1: colme in the mail or did they send you an email?
- 17:16Speaker 3: How does it work?
- 17:17Speaker 4: So if you go in the app on the studio
- 17:19Speaker 4: app YouTube studio, it'll like tell you what you're getting
- 17:22Speaker 4: that month.
- 17:23Speaker 2: When I saw that, I was like what, Like that's crazy.
- 17:25Speaker 4: But I was also getting like like ten thousand a month,
- 17:29Speaker 4: so it didn't really like like effect.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Ten thousand a month.
- 17:32Speaker 1: It is really good money. And are you telling your family? Like, Yo,
- 17:35Speaker 1: this is how much money I'm making.
- 17:37Speaker 2: So that's the mistake I made.
- 17:38Speaker 4: I told my mom, like I made my first eleven
- 17:41Speaker 4: thousand in December of twenty twenty, and I was proud,
- 17:44Speaker 4: so I told my mom. She told the whole family,
- 17:47Speaker 4: like now everybody knows how much I make.
- 17:50Speaker 1: So yeah, why is it like a not so good thing?
- 17:54Speaker 4: Because people will start asking you for stuff, Like if
- 17:58Speaker 4: you like make a lot of money, they'll start like,
- 18:01Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 18:02Speaker 2: It's like I don't know.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Like when you guys go out to you, they'd be
- 18:05Speaker 3: like you got the bill? You got it?
- 18:06Speaker 4: Like like I want to feel like like I don't know,
- 18:10Speaker 4: like when people buy stuff, like if I buy something
- 18:13Speaker 4: for somebody, it's because I care about them or like
- 18:16Speaker 4: I don't know. I want to feel like somebody cares
- 18:17Speaker 4: about me too, Like that's one of my oh, my
- 18:20Speaker 4: love language, one of my love.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Language is like gift giving. Yeah, okay, so like.
- 18:25Speaker 4: When somebody buys me something, like I feel like, I
- 18:28Speaker 4: don't know, feel like they care, even though that could
- 18:30Speaker 4: not always be the case. But yeah, but yeah, so
- 18:33Speaker 4: I'm always having to buy people stuff. People expect me
- 18:36Speaker 4: to like pay for everything. So that's why I just say,
- 18:39Speaker 4: anybody they got money, keep it on.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Did you ever have that conversation with your mom later?
- 18:45Speaker 1: So like if she were to listen to this interview,
- 18:48Speaker 1: she would be like, oh my gosh, I didn't know that.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I'm sure she knows.
- 18:52Speaker 4: I think I did tell her, Like it does bother
- 18:54Speaker 4: me when people ask me how much I make from like.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Oh really, are you uncomfortable saying it on the show?
- 18:59Speaker 2: Oh no, I don't care.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, but we just talked about it on the
- 19:02Speaker 1: show because there's like our show was like really created
- 19:05Speaker 1: for the underdog, and so we're trying to get them like,
- 19:08Speaker 1: don't quit even though.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Oh yeah, don't quit, keep going. I have that channel
- 19:11Speaker 4: since thirteen. Now I'm living off of my channel, So
- 19:14Speaker 4: I feel like anybody that was ten years ago so
- 19:17Speaker 4: well eleven now because it's swinging be ford, but keep going.
- 19:20Speaker 1: But it wasn't until like years intil you got your
- 19:23Speaker 1: first step, right, It wasn't like year one.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Twenty twenty is when I got my first beach checked.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Oh that's seven years.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah, dedicate seven long.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Years, and no part of you was like during that
- 19:34Speaker 1: journey like maybe I should give up or maybe I
- 19:37Speaker 1: should pause this.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I loved it so much.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Really, Now, tell me about your concept process. Is it
- 19:44Speaker 1: like you're going through everyday life and then you see
- 19:46Speaker 1: something and its sparks, Like, tell me what that process
- 19:49Speaker 1: looks like.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Yeah, everyday life, Like I'll see stuff I'd be like
- 19:53Speaker 4: I need to make a scit about this, or I'll
- 19:55Speaker 4: see something trending and I'm like, I gotta hop on
- 19:57Speaker 4: the bandwagon because that's how videos go.
- 20:00Speaker 3: You just gotta hop on what's trending, like when they're trending.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I have this I don't know if you know him,
- 20:05Speaker 1: but James Andre Jefferson Junior.
- 20:08Speaker 3: He's such a long name. That is a long name,
- 20:10Speaker 3: but he's he's like.
- 20:12Speaker 1: He makes fun of like a lot of the celebrities
- 20:14Speaker 1: and trending. But I remember when he was getting into
- 20:16Speaker 1: social media. He had discovered that if you could strike
- 20:19Speaker 1: while the trending was happening like on topic, then your
- 20:23Speaker 1: stuff can trend with it. But the turnaround has got
- 20:27Speaker 1: to be like a lot of pressure.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Yeah it is, because it's like you gotta come up
- 20:30Speaker 4: with something quick, like how the whole Like, what's something
- 20:34Speaker 4: trending now? I re cauld say like like all the
- 20:38Speaker 4: submarine stuff going on, Like if somebody makes like a
- 20:40Speaker 4: review about how they feel, I feel like that's easier.
- 20:43Speaker 4: But if you make like you just hop on the bandwagon,
- 20:46Speaker 4: talk about what's going on like in the moment, like
- 20:49Speaker 4: even the Jaded Pinkett stuff, it was Yeah with Will Smith,
- 20:52Speaker 4: I hopped on the trend like I made a skit
- 20:55Speaker 4: like pretending I was hurt and I was getting interviewed.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Yousally gotta hop on quick, do something create?
- 21:00Speaker 1: What was the one thing that like, because you have
- 21:04Speaker 1: nine hundred almost a million followers on YouTube, what is
- 21:07Speaker 1: the one thing that you did that where you saw
- 21:09Speaker 1: like a huge jump in your numbers?
- 21:12Speaker 4: I started doing these videos what is it if slavery
- 21:16Speaker 4: existed in twenty twenty one or twenty twenty two, But
- 21:19Speaker 4: I would make like parodies. But I get a lot
- 21:21Speaker 4: of backlash from black people because they're like, oh, slavery's
- 21:24Speaker 4: not a joke when they were.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Not even running with hereot you know.
- 21:27Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't know, but that's something a lot
- 21:30Speaker 4: of people like, I guess. And then the online class
- 21:33Speaker 4: videos because in twenty twenty, those were like, that's trending
- 21:37Speaker 4: because like COVID and stuff, so a lot of people
- 21:39Speaker 4: were taking classes online. So I hopped on that, and
- 21:43Speaker 4: we're not necessarily hopped on that. I created that wave,
- 21:46Speaker 4: like the whole online classes parodies.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and then where did you learn how to edit?
- 21:52Speaker 1: Are you editing your videos or are you having someone
- 21:54Speaker 1: else edit? Oh?
- 21:54Speaker 2: I edited though?
- 21:55Speaker 3: Wow?
- 21:56Speaker 1: And then you sit there with the lighting and the
- 21:57Speaker 1: shooting and all of that.
- 21:59Speaker 2: That's my brother taught me how to edit. We used
- 22:02Speaker 2: to make videos together. We had a channel and everything.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Where's your brother at now?
- 22:06Speaker 2: He lives in Dallas.
- 22:08Speaker 4: He graduated college in like twenty twenty one. Yeah, he moved.
- 22:12Speaker 4: He's older than you one year or eleven months. Yeah,
- 22:15Speaker 4: it's like my best friend. I wish he was here.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Ah, that's so sweet.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Shout out brother, Shout out to Charles, y'all.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So does your brother have a YouTube channel or does
- 22:26Speaker 1: he just kind of support yours?
- 22:28Speaker 2: Oh?
- 22:29Speaker 4: He does, but he doesn't. He's not really active on there.
- 22:32Speaker 4: We do not feel like he should be, but he's
- 22:34Speaker 4: not active.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Like is he choosing a different route from you?
- 22:37Speaker 1: Oh?
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah, we did.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Start together, like my channel now that I have now
- 22:41Speaker 4: me and him created that channel in twenty thirteen and
- 22:44Speaker 4: then I think it was called like Charles and Alicia,
- 22:47Speaker 4: and like, I don't know, he just I don't know.
- 22:51Speaker 4: I think when he went to college, he just kind
- 22:52Speaker 4: of stopped.
- 22:53Speaker 3: And he just wanted to do what do you know
- 22:55Speaker 3: what he's majoring in?
- 22:56Speaker 2: He did it informational technology.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Okay, so both of you guys are choosing good, well
- 23:00Speaker 1: good careers and hard careers at that.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you know it is hard. So when you moved
- 23:06Speaker 2: to LA, Like, what does that move look like?
- 23:10Speaker 4: I actually, so I graduated May sixth and I moved
- 23:13Speaker 4: out here May fifteenth, like I was not doing no.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Plan twenty twenty three.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Oh so you've only been out you're a newbie. Yeah, okay,
- 23:20Speaker 1: So did you move in with your dad right away?
- 23:23Speaker 2: Oh? No, I moved in by myself, Like I just
- 23:25Speaker 2: came up here alone.
- 23:27Speaker 1: And what was the conversation with your mom? Looking like
- 23:30Speaker 1: when you make this jump.
- 23:33Speaker 4: I was telling everybody like before, I was like, y'all,
- 23:35Speaker 4: I'm moving to LA. People don't be taking me serious,
- 23:37Speaker 4: but yeah, I moved out here.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Wait, you moved to LA, So tell me the story
- 23:43Speaker 1: about you moving to LA.
- 23:44Speaker 4: So I was in college, like coming home from classes,
- 23:47Speaker 4: searching up like apartments in LA, calling Them'm getting a
- 23:52Speaker 4: virtual tourist because at first I couldn't go out there,
- 23:55Speaker 4: like because I had to be in school. So I
- 23:57Speaker 4: was searching up like apartments like in LA.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:03Speaker 4: So I was doing like virtual tours. I didn't know
- 24:05Speaker 4: downtown was as bad as it is.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Oh, sked Row and all that. You had a nice
- 24:09Speaker 3: reality check.
- 24:11Speaker 2: I walked outside like what is this? I don't know
- 24:14Speaker 2: it was. So you graduate and you're like, I know,
- 24:16Speaker 2: I'm moving to LA. Yeah.
- 24:17Speaker 4: So, and I was making good money at the time
- 24:19Speaker 4: for my YouTube channel, so I was like I'm good,
- 24:20Speaker 4: Like I'm gonna just move out here. And my dad
- 24:24Speaker 4: he moved out of LA twenty twenty two, but I
- 24:27Speaker 4: moved into LA twenty twenty three, so it was like dang,
- 24:30Speaker 4: like he left and I came.
- 24:32Speaker 2: So I was just out here alone. When I first
- 24:35Speaker 2: moved out here, I was so depressed, like very depressed.
- 24:37Speaker 4: I started getting a lot of weight because I was
- 24:39Speaker 4: just eating, like to fill my voids.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Why were you depressed? I was lonely.
- 24:46Speaker 4: I would reach out to people. I feel like I'm
- 24:47Speaker 4: about to cry, but I'm not going to.
- 24:49Speaker 1: On this show people cry real, so you know, yeah right,
- 24:52Speaker 1: this is the safest place to cry.
- 24:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Yeah, But I was just very depressed, and I feel
- 24:58Speaker 4: like nobody like back home, like really cared. I would
- 25:02Speaker 4: reach out to people, like telling them how I felt,
- 25:06Speaker 4: but people would like literally take me as a joke.
- 25:08Speaker 4: And I know, I like make funny videos and I
- 25:10Speaker 4: like do stuff to like shield my emotions, like I'll
- 25:13Speaker 4: be funny or something.
- 25:14Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 25:18Speaker 1: So when you were calling people saying what you were
- 25:21Speaker 1: going through, were they doing that like cliche like oh girl,
- 25:24Speaker 1: you're lucky, or it could be hard, it could be harder.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I used to hate that, like when people be like
- 25:29Speaker 1: the whole world in my life crashed going end, and
- 25:31Speaker 1: then they'd be like, it could be harder. There's kids
- 25:33Speaker 1: in another country, yeah you know, and you're like, I
- 25:36Speaker 1: get that, but right now I need help.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:39Speaker 4: I feel like all I had was myself. That's why
- 25:42Speaker 4: I'm like so like independent because like I don't know,
- 25:45Speaker 4: that's why I do everything on my own, everything on
- 25:48Speaker 4: my own. Like I literally didn't have no help, like
- 25:52Speaker 4: physical help, like moving any of my stuff, Like I
- 25:56Speaker 4: hired movers, hire somebody to move my car, Like I
- 26:00Speaker 4: just had to get And you're.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Like twenty two, I'm assuming at the time or yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 1: early twenties. Yeah, and you're doing this all on your home,
- 26:09Speaker 1: No mommy, daddy help at this point, You're just one
- 26:11Speaker 1: hundred percent on your own.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 4: But that's like what I wanted, because like I want
- 26:16Speaker 4: to be independent because I feel like I really feel
- 26:18Speaker 4: like nobody be caring about how I feel like I
- 26:21Speaker 4: genuinely feel like that.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I feel like independence comes from a lot of neglects.
- 26:27Speaker 3: It's almost like a survival spirit.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Whenever I see someone that's like ultra independent, I'm like
- 26:32Speaker 1: they went through some stuff, you know, like a lot.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Yeah yeah wow.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Okay, So when you move and you finally land, I'm
- 26:42Speaker 1: hoping it's not in downtown.
- 26:43Speaker 2: A lake because you say like it was culture shock. Yeah.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I was like, what is this a joke?
- 26:48Speaker 4: Like literally, because I got my apartment tour and I
- 26:51Speaker 4: was like, oh, is it a good area? I should
- 26:53Speaker 4: have just came down here and looked. But he was like, yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 4: the area is good. There's a few homeless people downtown,
- 26:58Speaker 4: but you'll be fine. No, not few?
- 27:00Speaker 3: Was it in downtown?
- 27:02Speaker 2: I live on Fourth Street? Like oh wow? Yeah? So wow? Okay,
- 27:06Speaker 2: so you're like buy it.
- 27:08Speaker 1: It's like, uh yeah, But you know what's crazy because
- 27:10Speaker 1: some of those lofts down there are really nice. So
- 27:12Speaker 1: I could see you looking at the loft like, oh yeah,
- 27:16Speaker 1: lived my best life I love And there's like, you know,
- 27:21Speaker 1: ten million homeless people and that's like a culture shock
- 27:23Speaker 1: that is very scary to like, Okay, so you're making
- 27:26Speaker 1: it work, though, Now are you doing anything else? Are
- 27:30Speaker 1: you just one hundred percent YouTube, one hundred percent short film?
- 27:34Speaker 1: And then have you developed your own little crew to
- 27:37Speaker 1: survive la.
- 27:39Speaker 4: I do have a few people that I just got
- 27:42Speaker 4: done filming a short film. It's called Los Angeles Lost Angelus.
- 27:47Speaker 4: So it's just about like me narrating my life here,
- 27:50Speaker 4: crazy situations and stuff.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I did find some people, but the people out here are.
- 27:54Speaker 4: So weird, like they're like like when I first meet somebody,
- 27:58Speaker 4: I don't tell them, like what I do like initially
- 28:00Speaker 4: because people have ulterior motives.
- 28:02Speaker 1: But when I meet people, they like, if someone meets you,
- 28:06Speaker 1: what do you tell them?
- 28:07Speaker 2: I just talk to them like I just don't even
- 28:09Speaker 2: bring it up.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I feel like that's the second question when whenever you
- 28:13Speaker 1: meet someone in LA, it's like, Hi, my name is
- 28:15Speaker 1: and they're.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Like, what do you do? Yes, that's so true.
- 28:18Speaker 1: The one thing I liked about the pandemic was it
- 28:21Speaker 1: was the first time people stopped asking what you do.
- 28:24Speaker 3: It's more like, how are you doing?
- 28:26Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 28:26Speaker 1: And that was like, I think the most beautiful thing
- 28:29Speaker 1: about the pandemic. It was also people going to people's
- 28:32Speaker 1: houses and just eating around the table, playing board games,
- 28:36Speaker 1: like doing stuff, not at a restaurant, you know, or
- 28:40Speaker 1: what have you.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I think there was.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Something really beautiful in that space of we're all trapped
- 28:45Speaker 1: in a nightmare together. But I hate, I absolutely hate
- 28:49Speaker 1: that about LA, where it's like what do you do?
- 28:50Speaker 2: What do you do? What do you do? So?
- 28:52Speaker 1: But you moved here, you know, what do you do eric?
- 28:55Speaker 1: So when they ask you what do you do, what
- 28:56Speaker 1: do you say?
- 28:57Speaker 4: I tell them like, oh, I direct produce feeling gradual
- 29:00Speaker 4: comedy sketches.
- 29:01Speaker 2: But people are full of Yeah, people are full of shit.
- 29:05Speaker 2: So I feel like they probably.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Like, oh, just another one of those.
- 29:09Speaker 2: But I actually am like.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you're doing it like you're making money. You don't,
- 29:12Speaker 1: you're not working at Target. You're one hundred percent doing you.
- 29:15Speaker 4: So I feel like when they like first like people
- 29:17Speaker 4: will treat me like like I'm just like nobody, which
- 29:21Speaker 4: you know, it's fine treat me however, but well.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Because you look very young, yeah, so they're like they're
- 29:27Speaker 1: more like aspiring or what have you.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Did you watch the Tyler Perry documentary? No you didn't.
- 29:35Speaker 2: A lot of people keep telling me to watch it.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Let me tell you, girl, I watched. I cried a
- 29:40Speaker 1: couple of times. I didn't even know his story. I
- 29:42Speaker 1: think he was homeless, right, Well, he did end up
- 29:45Speaker 1: with a little bit of homelessness, but he came from
- 29:47Speaker 1: a lot of abuse, Like I did not know that.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it was kind of interesting.
- 29:50Speaker 2: That's probably why he writes about what he writes.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely that's good.
- 29:55Speaker 4: Well that's not good, but it's good that he like
- 29:57Speaker 4: shows that in movies like that, people can get through it.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Do you ever make fun of the characters in your
- 30:02Speaker 1: family or like play around with the characters in your
- 30:05Speaker 1: family or.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Develop characters from people in my family my friends.
- 30:12Speaker 2: No, I don't know where they come from.
- 30:14Speaker 4: I feel like I got like ten different personalities, so
- 30:17Speaker 4: just pick one play the character. Yeah, because like the
- 30:20Speaker 4: mother I play in my films, Like sometimes I play
- 30:23Speaker 4: like a mom that's not how my mom acts at all.
- 30:26Speaker 4: I don't know where that character stem from. But my
- 30:29Speaker 4: mom she's like very nice, very like quiet and reserved.
- 30:32Speaker 4: But the mom that I play like in my films
- 30:34Speaker 4: is very like, yeah, very loud, very like I don't know,
- 30:40Speaker 4: just crazy, and my mom is not like that at all.
- 30:42Speaker 4: So I don't know why I do that or like
- 30:44Speaker 4: where I got it from. But that's probably one of
- 30:47Speaker 4: my favorite characters. Like playing as the mom.
- 30:49Speaker 1: What is the day in the life of you now
- 30:51Speaker 1: that you're in la.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Get up, go to the gym, come home, shower, make
- 30:57Speaker 4: a video.
- 31:00Speaker 2: After that the rest is history.
- 31:01Speaker 1: When you say make a video, like just edit, Like
- 31:04Speaker 1: what's that process? Like a couple of hours?
- 31:06Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe like four hours max for YouTube video, make
- 31:10Speaker 4: the video, edit it, upload it the same day. Probably
- 31:13Speaker 4: gonna do that after the interview, really probably go home
- 31:16Speaker 4: and make a video and your money from YouTube? Do
- 31:21Speaker 4: you feel like it's sustainable or is it like the
- 31:23Speaker 4: entertainment business where it's like up down, up down, up down. Yeah,
- 31:26Speaker 4: I'd be up and down, like one month, go from
- 31:28Speaker 4: forty thousand that month to next month, I'm making three
- 31:31Speaker 4: thousand and five thousand and ten thousand back down to three.
- 31:35Speaker 4: Like it's up and down. But I saved enough like
- 31:38Speaker 4: before I moved here, just in case.
- 31:39Speaker 2: It like fluctuates.
- 31:41Speaker 1: And then do you put yourself on payroll like we
- 31:46Speaker 1: were talking about I think it was with Brandon Rogers
- 31:48Speaker 1: was the other another YouTuber. It's like when you have
- 31:51Speaker 1: your your money goes to a corporation or does it
- 31:53Speaker 1: go to you? I would go, okay, so yeah, traditionally
- 32:12Speaker 1: you would, you know, create a corporation and then maybe
- 32:14Speaker 1: get like an ADP and they'll cut your salary and
- 32:18Speaker 1: then you can kind of like live on a more
- 32:21Speaker 1: budget and then build cash flow in the business.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know that. That's a lie. I don't know,
- 32:26Speaker 2: but I love to learn.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we could talk after camera to like kind
- 32:31Speaker 1: of fix that. But I'm guessing right now, do you
- 32:33Speaker 1: put yourself on a strict budget? Like this is my
- 32:36Speaker 1: monthly and I don't go over or do you just
- 32:38Speaker 1: be like.
- 32:39Speaker 2: It's ten thousand dollar a month.
- 32:43Speaker 4: I just don't go crazy with spending, Like I'll just
- 32:46Speaker 4: spend my money like how I would like if I
- 32:49Speaker 4: make like five thousand, like that's like kind of I
- 32:52Speaker 4: don't do too much, like at all, I'm very cheap.
- 32:57Speaker 1: What advice would you give to someone that's trying to
- 33:00Speaker 1: get into the game.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Keep going and if the people are supporting you coming up,
- 33:06Speaker 4: make sure you lock in with them once you come up,
- 33:09Speaker 4: because yeah, all the people that like are around you
- 33:14Speaker 4: when you're coming up. Just know those people are loyal
- 33:16Speaker 4: and they like you for you, because when you get
- 33:18Speaker 4: like I feel like where I am, I'm not like
- 33:20Speaker 4: I don't know, like I need a better heart of
- 33:23Speaker 4: discernments because some people just come into my life or
- 33:25Speaker 4: try to come into my life because of who I am.
- 33:28Speaker 4: So yeah, if you're coming up, make sure the people
- 33:31Speaker 4: around you stay around them.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Don't make any new friends.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I tell myself that my high school friends are
- 33:39Speaker 1: my It sounds terrible. I have plenty of friends, but
- 33:43Speaker 1: I always feel like my friends from high school are
- 33:46Speaker 1: my real friends. Like you know, the good, the bad,
- 33:50Speaker 1: the ugly. You know where I'm from, where I'm going,
- 33:52Speaker 1: you know everything about me. And if I don't talk
- 33:55Speaker 1: to you for a year, I know we could pick
- 33:57Speaker 1: up the phone and I'm not getting like you ain't
- 33:59Speaker 1: calling me and they're like clocking or whatever. You know. Yeah,
- 34:04Speaker 1: I went to New York recently. My girlfriend from high school.
- 34:08Speaker 1: She was like, here's my car, here's my car seat,
- 34:10Speaker 1: have fun like you know, like I got you type.
- 34:14Speaker 1: You know. It was like just very much like family,
- 34:16Speaker 1: and we don't talk every day. It's just like I'm
- 34:19Speaker 1: coming girls whatever, or if I'm going through a breakup.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I've had a girlfriend, like get on a plane, get
- 34:25Speaker 1: a bunch of ice cream and candy, and like we
- 34:27Speaker 1: watched Pretty Woman and a bunch of just silly stuff
- 34:30Speaker 1: and all the way from New York. And I'm like,
- 34:31Speaker 1: you're a real friend. That guess a real friend and
- 34:35Speaker 1: those are rare. But how's dating in La? Do you
- 34:40Speaker 1: have you tried dating in La yet?
- 34:41Speaker 4: No?
- 34:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like the trickery is La. Guys are different.
- 34:45Speaker 1: It was like kind of I think everyone in LA
- 34:48Speaker 1: is kind of opportunistic. But I would I think the
- 34:50Speaker 1: dangerous part of being in social media would be that
- 34:56Speaker 1: I think even bigger than being a celebrity.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Like if you're big on social media.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Everybody want to date you. Yeah, and you just want
- 35:03Speaker 4: some cloud. But who knows, maybe not, I don't know.
- 35:06Speaker 2: I don't know. I haven't dated in la Okay, probably
- 35:09Speaker 2: not ever going to.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Are you single right now or you're not single because
- 35:13Speaker 1: you said you're not going to.
- 35:15Speaker 3: You're in a relationship.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta say it. It's complicated.
- 35:21Speaker 1: It's complicated, complicated. It's never good. It's never good.
- 35:25Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Like, see see if the relationship confuses you leave, Yeah.
- 35:31Speaker 1: I have my friends tell me all the time. They're like,
- 35:34Speaker 1: you're so good at spotting a red flag. There's like
- 35:36Speaker 1: there's nobody better that stop spotting a red flag than you.
- 35:40Speaker 2: But for whatever reason, you will spot the red flag. Ago.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Maybe that's just like a slowdown.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Maybe that's a maybe maybe Like.
- 35:50Speaker 2: No, it's a red flag.
- 35:51Speaker 1: You gotta respect the red flag and put it in
- 35:53Speaker 1: its place.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:54Speaker 1: And I think as a woman, it just boils down
- 35:56Speaker 1: to like it always bowls down to like women's like kryptonite,
- 36:03Speaker 1: which is like knowing your worth. That is I don't
- 36:06Speaker 1: know how we come up with our worth or knowing
- 36:08Speaker 1: our worth. I think that's just a woman's greatest challenge.
- 36:13Speaker 2: See, that's why I'm not dating in LA because I
- 36:15Speaker 2: know my worth.
- 36:16Speaker 3: You know you're worth, but you're in something complicated.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like about your red flags. And there's a
- 36:24Speaker 4: lot of green flags as well, you know, but.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Red means stop. I don't know.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I just turned forty, so now I haven't turned forty yet,
- 36:32Speaker 1: gonna be forty soon, And I'm learning like at this point,
- 36:37Speaker 1: you just got to respect the red flag because the
- 36:40Speaker 1: deeper you go, the harderest to get out, you know.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I'm just that's just me being totally honest. You know,
- 36:48Speaker 1: the more invested you are. And I also have this
- 36:51Speaker 1: other philosophy when it comes to relationships, whoever invests more
- 36:54Speaker 1: loses the most.
- 36:56Speaker 2: That's true, Yes, especially if it's over Yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, whoever invests more, whoever. And that doesn't just
- 37:02Speaker 1: mean monetary wise, it means time wise. It just means like,
- 37:05Speaker 1: if the scale is not tipped evenly, I promise you
- 37:09Speaker 1: you will be the one that's hurt more in the end.
- 37:12Speaker 2: So it's a crazy way to look at it.
- 37:15Speaker 1: That's a good way actually, But that's why you ever
- 37:17Speaker 1: hear people say like you got to match the other
- 37:18Speaker 1: person's energy.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Yeah, oh you.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Gave this, I'll match that.
- 37:22Speaker 1: You know when I was young, outdated guy, but I'll
- 37:24Speaker 1: go all out, you know, just same.
- 37:28Speaker 4: That's how I am. I like to like spoil people.
- 37:33Speaker 4: I like to be spoiled too. But yeah, I feel
- 37:36Speaker 4: like I always give so much of myself and I
- 37:39Speaker 4: need to just protect my heart at this point, like
- 37:41Speaker 4: I need to give what I give to that person,
- 37:43Speaker 4: I need to give that to myself.
- 37:45Speaker 1: I'm learning that right now. And I'm old as heke.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Well you know I'm up there. I've been trying to
- 37:51Speaker 1: avoid the topic for a while.
- 37:54Speaker 3: No, you look very young though, thank you, thank you?
- 37:58Speaker 2: What else does do people just don't know about you.
- 38:04Speaker 4: I'm a very introverted person. I know sometimes I come
- 38:07Speaker 4: off as very like outgoing, which I am online sometimes
- 38:12Speaker 4: I am in person, but I have to be like
- 38:13Speaker 4: very very comfortable. Yeah, I'm just a very introverted person
- 38:20Speaker 4: and I'm always sad. And people are gonna be believing
- 38:22Speaker 4: me because I joke around a lot.
- 38:25Speaker 1: I heard comics or like or comedians and that line
- 38:28Speaker 1: of work. They're the most sad, which is crazy because
- 38:32Speaker 1: they bring the most joy.
- 38:34Speaker 4: It's because we have to go through things alone because
- 38:36Speaker 4: like I'm not sure, I can't speak for anybody else,
- 38:39Speaker 4: but I know with me, people don't take me serious
- 38:42Speaker 4: and I'm also supposed to be the person it makes
- 38:44Speaker 4: everybody else laugh. So it's like I don't even feel
- 38:46Speaker 4: comfortable coming to people sometimes I don't want to bring
- 38:48Speaker 4: them that energy. And then I don't know, I don't know.
- 38:53Speaker 4: We just I feel like we go through a lot
- 38:55Speaker 4: of stuff alone, like a lot of our emotions.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but it makes you stronger in there, it does.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I mean, as long as you got that solid one
- 39:03Speaker 1: or two, I think you're good. And then do you
- 39:05Speaker 1: have mentors?
- 39:07Speaker 2: No? What? Yeah?
- 39:10Speaker 3: What you need to get something?
- 39:12Speaker 1: I don't care how old you are, Like you could
- 39:14Speaker 1: be my age. I still look for mentors. I'm always
- 39:17Speaker 1: looking for mentor anyone that's like even semi where I
- 39:21Speaker 1: want to be at or like just different from me.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, can you be my mentor? Can you
- 39:26Speaker 1: teach me something new?
- 39:29Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 39:29Speaker 1: Girl, well I'm here in La, so I definitely if
- 39:33Speaker 1: you ever need a mentory. Matter of fact, you could
- 39:36Speaker 1: be my mentor in some areas you can, so yeah, okay.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Yeah, because you know, I'm struggling with YouTube.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I know my the girl that runs my YouTube, she
- 39:48Speaker 1: we can monetize now, she's always like monetized the channel.
- 39:51Speaker 1: I'm like, we're gonna get five cents. You just still
- 39:54Speaker 1: menize it, That's what she says.
- 39:55Speaker 2: She's like, girl, I'm like, you you should. You don't
- 39:59Speaker 2: have to.
- 39:59Speaker 3: You know what it's we're mentor. We're going to mentor
- 40:01Speaker 3: each other.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my goodness, I can't believe it.
- 40:04Speaker 1: And you have the ability to Yeah, we do. And
- 40:07Speaker 1: she's been on me like just fill out the paperwork.
- 40:09Speaker 1: I'm like, for what you need to do?
- 40:10Speaker 4: It like your money could be growing. So there's a
- 40:13Speaker 4: threshold on YouTube. It's one hundred dollars. So after you
- 40:16Speaker 4: hit one hundred, they deposit whatever into your account. So
- 40:19Speaker 4: right now, like, look like all of your views, I
- 40:23Speaker 4: don't know, like add it up. If they make a hundred,
- 40:25Speaker 4: I'm sure you're at one hundred dollars.
- 40:27Speaker 2: So you're like, I don't at one hundred.
- 40:29Speaker 3: But I didn't know that's how it works.
- 40:31Speaker 1: I just thought maybe like if I hit like five
- 40:33Speaker 1: thousand subscribers, then I would hit monetization. But if I
- 40:37Speaker 1: don't hit it, if is it only from that date
- 40:40Speaker 1: four that it accruise or they'd.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Look at the previous day.
- 40:43Speaker 4: It's from that date for that's why I said you
- 40:45Speaker 4: need to get Oh yeah, see okay, So like they're
- 40:50Speaker 4: not going to give you any money from like anything
- 40:52Speaker 4: before today if you monetize today.
- 40:56Speaker 1: So when they gave me the opportunity, that's when I
- 40:58Speaker 1: was supposed to do it.
- 41:00Speaker 2: What did they tell you?
- 41:02Speaker 3: Probably a couple of months ago.
- 41:04Speaker 2: You should do it.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not like I missed out on that much.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I mean you got a small little but I do.
- 41:10Speaker 1: I would be very happy over one hundred dollars check
- 41:12Speaker 1: just because it's like that milestone of Like I remember
- 41:17Speaker 1: an interviewing like Country Wayne and he was talking about
- 41:20Speaker 1: his like he monetized the channel during the pandemic. It
- 41:23Speaker 1: was like get in like forty to one hundred thousand
- 41:25Speaker 1: per Yeah, how much did he say?
- 41:28Speaker 2: Yeah? He said he was getting like one hundred, two hundred,
- 41:30Speaker 2: three hundred thousand. I was like, I was a lot.
- 41:34Speaker 1: Yeah, And it was like during the pandemic he monetized it. Wow,
- 41:37Speaker 1: could you imagine how much money you probably missed out on, yeah,
- 41:40Speaker 1: because I did not know that's.
- 41:41Speaker 2: How it works.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Well yeah, yeah, yeah you should be my mental you
- 41:47Speaker 1: heard it here first.
- 41:48Speaker 4: I just send up comedy sometimes. But yeah, how's it going?
- 41:53Speaker 4: I don't do it anymore? Really, but my last show
- 41:55Speaker 4: was in November, November eighth, That was the last show
- 41:57Speaker 4: I did. It's good, but like I'm really focus on that. Really,
- 42:01Speaker 4: what made you get into stand up? My dad he
- 42:04Speaker 4: was a center comedian out here as well, but he moved.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Back to where Texas?
- 42:09Speaker 3: Oh he's in Texas? Is he in Austin? All the
- 42:11Speaker 3: comics are moving to Austin.
- 42:13Speaker 4: He's in Houston? Okay, okay, but him, I don't know
- 42:17Speaker 4: that's where he's from. And then my mom is from Missouri.
- 42:19Speaker 4: But they met in college. Such a sweet love story
- 42:21Speaker 4: like love and basketball?
- 42:22Speaker 2: No, for real?
- 42:23Speaker 3: Is it really like a love and basketball story?
- 42:25Speaker 2: Well, love and track? I guess they've both were in
- 42:27Speaker 2: track okay.
- 42:28Speaker 3: But are they still together?
- 42:30Speaker 2: No? Okay, okay, they should be.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Why because they're like best friends or something.
- 42:34Speaker 4: No, because they're my parents and they need to be
- 42:36Speaker 4: even though they're both dating other people.
- 42:38Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Ah, that's so sweet but did you grow up in
- 42:43Speaker 1: two parent household?
- 42:44Speaker 3: Oh no, they split two when you were two, right,
- 42:46Speaker 3: so it was.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Just me, my mom and my brother. Oh okay, okay, yeah,
- 42:50Speaker 2: all right. There was something else that literally, like I
- 42:53Speaker 2: was like, don't forget to.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Ask this, and then I forgot.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Was it something deep?
- 42:56Speaker 3: It was something diff deep too.
- 42:59Speaker 2: I need to be deeper. I think I got a little.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you. I noticed you do dot
- 43:04Speaker 1: meet and greets, don't you?
- 43:05Speaker 2: I did one?
- 43:06Speaker 3: You did one? How what made you do it? And
- 43:08Speaker 3: like what was the experience?
- 43:09Speaker 2: Like? What made me do it?
- 43:12Speaker 4: This girl I went to school with, she she moved
- 43:16Speaker 4: out there and she like does a lot of work
- 43:18Speaker 4: in Atlanta. So then she like set up this meet
- 43:20Speaker 4: and greet with this restaurant, so it'll bring people to
- 43:22Speaker 4: the restaurant and then bring people to meet me.
- 43:25Speaker 2: So it was like kind of a collaborative thing the experience.
- 43:30Speaker 4: So it was like in like a small country part
- 43:33Speaker 4: of Atlanta or Georgia. I thought it was in Atlanta,
- 43:37Speaker 4: but I was on it promoting like hey atl So
- 43:40Speaker 4: now a lot of people came, but it was still
- 43:42Speaker 4: good to have the experience.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Though, would you ever do that?
- 43:44Speaker 2: Again and probably in a different location. Yes, like Texas.
- 43:48Speaker 4: When I went to Texas this or last year. What
- 43:51Speaker 4: month was this? It was like September or October. It
- 43:55Speaker 4: was in October. I was getting stopped. I was gonna
- 43:58Speaker 4: stop the lot like I have a big fan in Texas, Dallas.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, I would do it there all right.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Well, and then if you were to do it, would
- 44:07Speaker 1: you do stand up or would you just like talk
- 44:10Speaker 1: about your experiences as a YouTuber?
- 44:13Speaker 4: I would probably talk about, like I don't know my experiences.
- 44:17Speaker 4: Have people come up because I have a few songs
- 44:19Speaker 4: like on my channel with everybody knows cause it's like
- 44:21Speaker 4: my ultrosongs, intro songs. I'll probably have them come up
- 44:24Speaker 4: and see, like who could wrap it the best, do
- 44:27Speaker 4: a giveaway, take pictures, stuff like that. I wouldn't do
- 44:32Speaker 4: stand up though, because my fan base is younger. My
- 44:34Speaker 4: stand up is like for adults.
- 44:36Speaker 1: So yeah, oh my gosh, well, where can we keep
- 44:39Speaker 1: up with you? If you do do stand up, do
- 44:41Speaker 1: you announce it on your Instagram and share with our
- 44:44Speaker 1: listeners what your Instagram is.
- 44:46Speaker 4: My Instagram is a l y s a h bu
- 44:49Speaker 4: r any y Underscore Alicia Bernie underscore my only page.
- 44:55Speaker 1: That's your only page. And then you so you just
- 44:57Speaker 1: have Instagram. You're not doing TikTok or any of those guys.
- 45:00Speaker 2: I have a million on there, one point five million.
- 45:03Speaker 1: And was it like instant or did you have to
- 45:05Speaker 1: organically grow it organically?
- 45:07Speaker 2: I started in COVID like during COVID.
- 45:09Speaker 1: COVID COVID was like the real, real pivot, pivotal moment
- 45:14Speaker 1: for you.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Wow, I blew up on everything.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Yeah, during COVID, that three that two years changed your life.
- 45:21Speaker 4: It everybody says how COVID affected them like horribly.
- 45:26Speaker 2: I'm just like, COVID blessed me. Wow. Shout outs to COVID,
- 45:30Speaker 2: shout out to you COVID. And I never caught it.
- 45:34Speaker 3: You never caught what? Yeah, girl, I don't had COVID
- 45:37Speaker 3: so many times. I'm like, really I had. Oh yeah,
- 45:40Speaker 3: I've caught it a bunch of times.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Or maybe I caught it and didn't know. Oh yeah.
