- 0:02Speaker 1: They would they tell you she was life lighted.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Here.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Yeah, this is Natalie and John Sharilla, the parents of
- 0:10Mackenzie Sharilla. Just hours earlier, they were informed their daughter
- 0:14was involved in a devastating car accident and that she
- 0:17was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital. However, they're
- 0:22about to hear from this officer would change the course
- 0:24of their and McKenzie's life forever.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Okay, no, you want to sit down. Why do you
- 0:36say this progress?
- 0:37Speaker 4: Al Amida car into a building to our de season
- 0:40the vehicle daughter's driving.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Who died.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Mackenzie's boyfriend Dom Russo, as well as their friend Davion
- 0:50were pronounced dead after the crash, making Mackenzie the suspect
- 0:54of a potential double murder. However, police had their doubt.
- 1:00Most assumed that this was simply the result of an
- 1:03innocent mistake on Mackenzie's behalf, But as the investigation would progress,
- 1:08dark and disturbing secrets would reveal this was clearly much
- 1:12more than just an accident.
- 1:15Speaker 5: Dom.
- 1:15Speaker 1: If you cannot open like I'm using, I'm jo what
- 1:18do you mean?
- 1:18Speaker 5: You know that's exactly what I mean.
- 1:20Speaker 6: You're gonna come open this door right now, where there's
- 1:22going to be a serious problem.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Seventeen year old Mackenzie Shirrilla, her twenty year old boyfriend Dominic,
- 1:39and their friend Davion are on their way to a
- 1:42high school party. With Mackenzie's eighteenth birthday in just two days,
- 1:46the group has decided to go out and celebrate, but
- 1:49what seems like a normal night out will in a
- 1:51few hours turn into one of Ohio's most disturbing mysteries.
- 1:57At around two am, Mackenzie and Dominic are seen smoking
- 2:00at the party, and at one point Mackenzie reportedly offers
- 2:04the host of the party psychedelic mushrooms. This was unlike Mackenzie,
- 2:08as her friends had never seen her use a substance before,
- 2:11let alone pass them around. At three point thirty am,
- 2:15the group leaves the party and drives to another friend's
- 2:17place across town. There, they hang out for a little
- 2:20over an hour watching South Park. By five am, McKenzie
- 2:24decided it was time to go home. Strangely, she asked
- 2:28to drive instead of Dominic. This was unusual, but Dominic agreed. Additionally,
- 2:35when Davion asked for a ride, Mackenzie refused to let
- 2:38him in the car. After an argument, Dominic convinced her
- 2:41to take Davion home. All three of them would get
- 2:44in the car, sealing their own fate. At the intersection
- 2:48between Pearl and Progress Drive, CCTV spots the car making
- 2:52a turn off course from Davion's house. Instead of driving
- 2:56along Pearl Drive, the car turns onto Progress, a road
- 3:01that ends abruptly with a brick wall. CCTV would spot
- 3:06the car rapidly start accelerating, going from a calm thirty
- 3:09to over ninety miles per hour. In the very last seconds,
- 3:13an intense turn would take place, leading the car to
- 3:16narrowly avoid slamming into a tree, but it would be
- 3:18too late and the car would speed into the brick wall.
- 3:25The crashed car would remain undiscovered for forty five minutes
- 3:30until six fifteen am, when a passer by on a
- 3:33motorcycle would discover.
- 3:34Speaker 1: The destroyed vehicle.
- 3:36Speaker 3: About ten minutes later, law enforcement would arrive and through
- 3:39their body cams we can witness the horrific discovery. They
- 3:43would make.
- 3:53Speaker 5: No.
- 3:54Speaker 1: One three puff the window out.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Here, my god, here, private, Hey, this is a bad guys,
- 4:15she's a lot.
- 4:16Speaker 7: We gotta get her out here.
- 4:17Speaker 3: All right, you chumping them on.
- 4:19Speaker 7: Let's see your knife. Let's cut this thing out. I
- 4:36don't feel anything. I don't kiel Paul for some reason.
- 4:39Speaker 1: It's our stomach.
- 4:40Speaker 8: Oh yeah, yeah, we got two.
- 4:44Speaker 2: They're gone.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, Yeah, that's the forest I've ever seen.
- 4:53Speaker 9: How old is Dominic Crusoe seventeen?
- 5:00Speaker 3: There's inside the car. Officers quickly confirmed two victims as deceased,
- 5:06twenty year old Dominic in the front passenger seat and
- 5:09nineteen year old davey On in the back, but one
- 5:11person has survived, the driver, Mackenzie Shirilla. As medics and
- 5:16firefighters rushed to attend to the victims, investigators begin trying
- 5:19to understand how such a devastating crash could have happened.
- 5:23That's when they start uncovering alarming details.
- 5:26Speaker 10: It looks like they even went off the road up there.
- 5:28They did, but I mean they were. I mean, if
- 5:30you're hitting a building that hard, I just can't believe
- 5:33all the people that work up here, that are up
- 5:35here all night long, no.
- 5:37Speaker 7: One heard they're any factory.
- 5:39Speaker 10: Ur Yeah, well it's dark. That's insane.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Though.
- 5:44Speaker 10: Once they get her out, all over this building because
- 5:46I think there's a camera on the front of that building.
- 5:49I don't know if it's working, but I can always ask.
- 5:52Speaker 3: As authorities work to save Mackenzie, The man who initially
- 5:55called nine to one one to report the incident arrives
- 5:58on the scene to give his side of this story.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Appreciate you giving us a call. Someone in it obviously. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:06so that's a bummer. I didn't want to I didn't
- 6:08want to get stuck, and I'm like, I don't know
- 6:10what's going on, right, No, I appreciate you giving us
- 6:12a call. Absolutely, appreciate it. They want it.
- 6:14Speaker 11: They were hit it, man, Yeah, obviously, and I saw
- 6:18it at at that front end.
- 6:19Speaker 1: They definitely hit it. Large, destroyed right, all right, Well
- 6:23what a way to start your son, I guess better
- 6:24than the right. I appreciate the call, sir, Thank you.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Officers would file the crash as an accident, stating that
- 6:33the driver appeared to have attempted to steer off course
- 6:35but was unable to regain control. Mackenzie was diagnosed with
- 6:39a condition known as pots, which can cause dizziness and fainting,
- 6:43something officers believed may have contributed to the crash. The
- 6:47presumption was that a combination of mackenzie's medical condition and
- 6:50drug use had likely led to the tragic crash. However,
- 6:54one detail worried officers. There were no signs of breaking anywhere,
- 6:59and officers would soon begin to discover why.
- 7:02Speaker 12: I've personally have been told that she did a food
- 7:04to want him.
- 7:05Speaker 13: She was scared that she was going to crash the
- 7:07day before the actual crash, and.
- 7:09Speaker 12: I feel like that's what she was trying to do,
- 7:10was the car into the world.
- 7:12Speaker 3: As police continue gathering evidence from the crash site, one
- 7:16officer heads to the hospital to speak with McKenzie's parents.
- 7:19At this point, all they know is that their daughter
- 7:23was in a serious accident.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Oh they will they tell you she was life lighted here. Yeah,
- 7:33I wont know that. Okay, No, you want to sit down.
- 7:37Speaker 7: Oh my god.
- 7:41Speaker 4: We always say this progress Alma car into a building
- 7:45to her deceased vehicle.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Daughter's driving who died. I don't know whether because one
- 7:51that we don't know, his name is Jacob. Does anyone
- 7:53know Jacob?
- 7:55Speaker 8: No, guys, I know we can with this. Your daughter's okay,
- 8:02she's talking to us my talk door. Okay, your daughter's alive. Okay,
- 8:07your daughter's alive.
- 8:09Speaker 1: She was doing. Okay, who's think what's the name of
- 8:15you said? Tom might be so what's what's his relation
- 8:22to record? Okay? Yeah, then Dom was in the car?
- 8:27Speaker 5: Are you king?
- 8:29Speaker 1: That's right? On's ongoing investigation. Speed, it's definitely a factor. Uh,
- 8:33it's our drugs. Thomas dead, Thomas dead?
- 8:38Speaker 6: Is that what you're saying?
- 8:39Speaker 5: Mean?
- 8:39Speaker 10: What do you mean is that?
- 8:41Speaker 4: Then said, always wait for me say anything right now? Man,
- 8:44this is this is this is a serious situation.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Don't live to say maybe it's different. It could be
- 8:51a different now.
- 8:55Speaker 9: No, we're going to keep it that way for Okay,
- 9:00it's gonna worked on ow. Okay, full transparency here, drugs
- 9:03in the car. She had a bag of mushrooms on
- 9:04her and a scale. Full transparency, guys, I'm sorry ripping
- 9:08the banion. Drugs in the car.
- 9:14Speaker 1: In a consciousness could be fully extracted from the vehicle.
- 9:21Speaker 9: Fifty I know she has a severe leg injury. Like
- 9:27I said, she was speaking and she had her seat
- 9:31belt on.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Mackenzie was the only one in the car wearing a
- 9:34seat belt, which was why she was the sole survivor.
- 9:37If her intention had been sighed, it's unlikely she would
- 9:40have taken that precaution. This detail would later become important
- 9:44to the investigation.
- 9:46Speaker 9: Yeah, saved her life, one hundred percent.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I don't believe the others did.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Mackenzie's parents would take the news relatively well, relieved their
- 9:57daughter had survived, but officers now faced a much harder
- 10:01task telling Dominic's parents. Remember, at this point, they didn't
- 10:07even know their son had been in an accident, let
- 10:10alone that he had passed away.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Hi, Christine, Hey, can I talk to you real quick?
- 10:22Speaker 14: Yeah, there was an incident that we believe Dominic may
- 10:28be involved. What both Davion and Dominic are deceased. Oh god,
- 10:43I think see so you don't up there, No, we
- 10:48don't right now. What we do know one hundred percent
- 10:51is somebody called it in. Somebody passing by. Had around
- 10:55six fifteen, six thirty people college somewhere. Yeah, so what
- 10:59are years that happened is they were going westbound on
- 11:03Progress from Pearl Road.
- 11:04Speaker 1: They went Yeah in Strongsol.
- 11:07Speaker 14: That business that's right at the on Alameda, right where
- 11:10Progress ends, that's dead ends right there. They hit that building,
- 11:17They hit the sign out front, and then they hit
- 11:19the building.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I think we don't know that we don't know that
- 11:25two kids are dead. My son's dead and other kid's dead.
- 11:29She's in surgery right.
- 11:30Speaker 12: Now, Chris, I mean another family member or a friend
- 11:35or anybody that you.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Might want us to call it here.
- 11:37Speaker 7: We have no.
- 11:40Speaker 11: This is a fucking night.
- 11:42Speaker 1: If somebody called it in at sixth thirty in the morning,
- 11:45six fifteen, six thirty.
- 11:47Speaker 15: Yeah, passing it by, yeah.
- 11:51Speaker 11: Oh my gosh, this is probably more.
- 12:00Speaker 16: She was in her car.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It was in Mackenzie's car.
- 12:03Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, oh, guy, right now, we don't know. She's
- 12:10in surgery right now, so we don't know.
- 12:14Speaker 3: So three weeks would pass, time that Mackenzie would spend
- 12:20in the hospital recovering. Her condition would improve significantly, eventually
- 12:25allowing her to leave and return to her normal life.
- 12:28The community mourned the tragic loss of Dominic and Davion
- 12:32and expressed sympathy for Mackenzie, who had just gone through
- 12:35the trauma of losing both her boyfriend and a close friend.
- 12:40But soon strange things about Mackenzie would start to surface.
- 12:45In the weeks that followed, it seems Mackenzie thought everyone
- 12:49concluded the crash as a tragic accident and nothing further.
- 12:53Mackenzie would never attend Dominic or Davion's funerals. On social media,
- 12:58she would brag about her rug use, claiming she could
- 13:01quote do more drugs than anyone and still live. And then,
- 13:07on October thirty one, twenty twenty two, Mackenzie would go
- 13:10to her first party since the crash, and her costume
- 13:13for the night would be a detailed corpse with fake
- 13:16blood smeared across her mouth. Mackenzie's parents even went public
- 13:21to defend her outfit, saying she quote deserved to have
- 13:25some fun after the accident. There also appeared to be
- 13:28a mysterious source of income. Mackenzie was spending thousands of
- 13:32undocumented dollars on designer clothing, and she wasn't hiding it either,
- 13:36openly bragging about it online. But lucky for McKenzie, this
- 13:40strange behavior still wasn't enough for police to launch a
- 13:44full investigation. However, that would all change when Dominic's family
- 13:49came to the police with a video taken from Dominic's phone,
- 13:52a clip recorded just ten days before the crash, one
- 13:56that would change everything. But before we get to that,
- 13:59I want to tell you about the best earbuds I've
- 14:02ever used.
- 14:02Speaker 1: If you're like me.
- 14:03Speaker 3: The new love listening to true crime podcasts, maybe at work,
- 14:07at a cafe, or on the train. I listen to
- 14:09them all the time when I'm traveling. But there's one
- 14:12problem with that the noise. Normally, earbuds just don't work
- 14:16no matter how much I turned them up. That's when
- 14:18I did some research and discovered Raycon, the sponsor of
- 14:21today's video, and their new Raycon Everyday Earbuds Classic. At
- 14:25this time, they're packing in active noise cancelation. The active
- 14:29noise cancelation feature is incredible. It blocks out all the
- 14:32distractions so that I can make sure I'm not missing
- 14:34anything important. Their audio quality rivals all the big audio
- 14:38brands you know and love, and at half the price.
- 14:41They have a playtime of eight hours of straight listening,
- 14:44and if you run out of juice, you can recharge
- 14:46an hour and a half of listening in only ten minutes.
- 14:48They also have protective covers, allowing you to customize their
- 14:51look just how you want it. I went with a
- 14:53school blue Galaxy case. Go to buy Raycon dot com
- 14:57slash Doctor Insanity to get twenty percent off fan favorite
- 15:00Everyday Earbot's Classic. The link is in the description below.
- 15:04Thanks again to Raycon for sponsoring. Now let's get back
- 15:08to what the investigators uncovered. At this point, officers already
- 15:12had a growing list of suspicions about Mackenzie, but it
- 15:15would be one video submitted by Dominick's parents and filmed
- 15:19by Dominic himself just ten days before the crash, that
- 15:22would turn the entire case on its head.
- 15:25Speaker 17: No, if you dont like, you think I'm joking, you
- 15:28think I'm joke, You're gonna come open this door right now,
- 15:33or there's gonna be a serious problem.
- 15:36Speaker 3: This was a short snippet from a fifteen minute video
- 15:39where Mackenzie clearly and continuously threatens Domineck. But this wasn't all.
- 15:44Dominick's family would show even more disturbing material, including text
- 15:48messages confirming she had threatened to kill Dominic. This was
- 15:54enough for officers to reopen the case, now investigating it
- 15:59as a plan and double homicide.
- 16:02Speaker 13: At this point, this is a homitat investigation, and so
- 16:06we are trying to show that she intentionally drove the
- 16:08car into the wall.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Shortly after the investigation began, police would begin interviewing several
- 16:15of mackenzie Shirilla's friends, family members, and individuals from the community.
- 16:20This would prove to be very insightful. Officers would first
- 16:25bring Tyler Mackenzie's former boyfriend in. Unfortunately, his accounts would
- 16:30only serve to deepen their concerns.
- 16:33Speaker 1: We understand you're not under arrest. Did walk out anytime
- 16:37you want?
- 16:38Speaker 11: We have about approximates with ten questions that we wanted
- 16:41to ask you.
- 16:42Speaker 1: How long were you guys in a relationship.
- 16:44Speaker 12: You want have? Well, we were all friends in a
- 16:47friend group at first. I ended up dating her for
- 16:50a little bit, like probably over the summer. I was
- 16:54only dating her for probably like a month and a
- 16:56half or like two months, and then me Don, she
- 17:01was like she was cheating on us basically, but it
- 17:05wasn't like anything official, so it wasn't no hard feelings
- 17:08like with whatever happened. I just kind of was like,
- 17:11after me and Don found out about that, we didn't
- 17:14have no problems with each other or nothing. But they
- 17:17kept they were on and off, and I kept on
- 17:19talking to her still while they were on and off
- 17:21because we were all still in the friend group and stuff.
- 17:24So and then we kind of just like stopped being intimate.
- 17:27You know what I'm saying, and we're just friends.
- 17:29Speaker 1: So describe the relationship. What was it? What was she
- 17:34like as your girlfriend?
- 17:36Speaker 12: Like we have much with their relationship wise because we
- 17:39didn't take that long, but like friend wise, like.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Like she was crazy, like she like mentally just not
- 17:45all there.
- 17:46Speaker 12: Yeah, I don't think she's just mentally all there. Like
- 17:48I personally feel like she was trying to help and
- 17:51that crash and she uh failed undering. Why did down
- 17:56put off with this? Do you know I've personally been
- 17:59told that she did food on him. She has told
- 18:02people that she's put a spell on him so that
- 18:04he couldn't break up with her, that she had like
- 18:06drabbed a piece of his hair, and that she had
- 18:09a doll in her room for Don and that she had.
- 18:12Speaker 18: Literally put a spell on it unless she would tell
- 18:13everyone if she truly believed in that kind of stuff.
- 18:16And she also uses the pendulum I know too to
- 18:21try to get answers, just because she tries to use it,
- 18:23not to talk to Don.
- 18:25Speaker 11: Do you think Mackenzie has it in her to drive
- 18:28a car into a wall? I mean, if you're feel
- 18:31like speculate that, I mean she did it on.
- 18:34Speaker 12: I feel like if she thinks that she can just
- 18:36drive the car into the wall and not feel nothing,
- 18:38you know, like I feel like the only reasons she
- 18:40survived is because of how small she is. Like I
- 18:43feel like she got insanely lucky, but at the same
- 18:47time not lucky to survive that because it's like she
- 18:50killed two people. What that was what she was trying
- 18:52to do. But it's like I kind of feel I
- 18:55feel like that's what she was trying to do with
- 18:57card to the Wall.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So now a far darker picture of McKenzie's actions was
- 19:03beginning to take plates. This is when two friends who
- 19:06had attended the party would come forward to police, claiming
- 19:09they had evidence that, in their view, proved the crash
- 19:12was no accident at all.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I want to show you, oh, a plan.
- 19:16Speaker 19: So this is when they were going down Progress Drive
- 19:19and then you know how there was like tire tracks
- 19:22before it on that side grass, so that's the sign.
- 19:27Speaker 1: That's when it hit the sign, and then that's where
- 19:29she curved exactly right on. Gotcha missed those two.
- 19:33Speaker 19: Rocks and went right into the sign the side of it.
- 19:36She went right into that wall right Noh, So you
- 19:39can see like the heartbreaking was right at the wall,
- 19:43and then her high.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Speed after the heartbreaking.
- 19:46Speaker 19: Yeah, ninety miles grown. It looks like the person in
- 19:49the front seat tried to turn the wheel because of
- 19:53the fact they were going to go straight into a wall.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And it doesn't say she heart broke once. It was
- 19:58ninety miles for hour down the whole road.
- 20:00Speaker 19: And I also think because of Kenzie's in Dominic's history,
- 20:03that they were fighting.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I think Davion went on his phone to.
- 20:06Speaker 3: District himself from the fighting. I don't although they were
- 20:08on drugs, they can also still be fighting with being
- 20:10on drugs. Well, the statements were deeply concerning. Investigators still
- 20:16didn't have enough concrete evidence to determine Mackenzie's intent. Without
- 20:20a documented pattern of behavior, it was still possible the
- 20:24crash had been a drug induced accident, but that changed
- 20:27during an interview with Dominick's brother, who provided detectives with
- 20:32crucial information about Dominick and Mackenzie's turbulent relationship. The following
- 20:38video includes talk of self harm. Viewer discretion is advised.
- 20:42Speaker 11: You mentioned that anytime dom would kind of want to
- 20:45break up with her, she kind of would go crazy.
- 20:47Speaker 1: To describe crazy like what kind of crazy.
- 20:50Speaker 13: Like various times where she called down and said, if
- 20:54you break up with me, I'm going to word for word.
- 20:58There was an instance literally a couple of days before
- 21:01the crash that she was hitting him on the highway
- 21:03while driving that he had to pull his car over
- 21:05on the side of the highway, not in a very
- 21:07safe parking spot either, and have somebody else come pick
- 21:11them up and drive the car home because he was
- 21:13scared that she was going to make a crash. And
- 21:15that was just prior to the day before the actual crash.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Apparently, just days before the crash, McKenzie had threatened Dominick's life,
- 21:22saying she would crash the car they were in. Dominick's
- 21:26brother continued the interview by giving officers a compelling motive
- 21:29for why the crash may have been intentional.
- 21:32Speaker 13: You're going ninety four miles an hour. You don't have
- 21:35a very fast car to begin with. You were stopping
- 21:36that gas from us the whole entire time. There's no
- 21:38brake marks on the street at all, even before the hit.
- 21:41You would think that some type of instinct would kick
- 21:44slam on the brakes, But to my now, she went
- 21:46straight into it off of what I know and off
- 21:50my assumptions. Dom tried to break up with her multiple
- 21:53times even in July. I kept not like working out
- 21:55what I think got making back up. Kenzie's known to
- 21:59be the kind of per and that she's like she's
- 22:01let us know she will never let go of down
- 22:04and she hasked to let go don she will not
- 22:07go on living herself. She's pretty much let that you know.
- 22:10Speaker 3: McKenzie's actions after the crash were also of concern to police.
- 22:14On August sixth, only a week after the incident, police
- 22:18would be called to McKenzie's house by her father. There,
- 22:21he would make concerning statements. Well, there is no footage
- 22:24of the incident. The officer that was called out would
- 22:27retell the strange incident in an interview.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So I want to ask you first about August sixth.
- 22:32Speaker 11: If you recall, that's the day you guys were dispatched
- 22:35to mackenzie Shirrilla room.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Can you tell me about that day?
- 22:39Speaker 16: So we were dispatched up to the room for disturbance
- 22:42and once we arrived upon the room, she was upset
- 22:45with her dad. We asked the dad to step out,
- 22:47and like you were trying to calm him down, calm
- 22:48him down, and he's like, you know, you guys finally
- 22:51know who I am. At one point in the conversation
- 22:53and he's like, I feel like my daughter needs a
- 22:55psych evaluation. And he's like, you know, because like you know,
- 22:58she's not, you know, think clearly and word for word
- 23:02what he said, Like I don't recall every word that
- 23:05he said.
- 23:06Speaker 1: He was pretty hysterical. He was pretty upsad she was
- 23:09upset with.
- 23:09Speaker 16: Her dad because like she operated on the funerals.
- 23:13Speaker 3: During this interaction, it became clear that Mackenzie was deeply
- 23:17upset with her father. Despite creating a shrine for Dominic,
- 23:20regularly posting on his Facebook memorial page, and wearing his clothes,
- 23:25her father hadn't allowed her to attend Dominic's funeral. It
- 23:28appeared that Mackenzie was truly mourning his death. But around
- 23:32this time police managed to gain access to her phone.
- 23:36What they uncovered didn't just explain her mysterious source of income.
- 23:40It also hinted at something far more disturbing. After decrypting
- 23:44Mackenzie's phone, investigators discovered several photos of her posing with
- 23:49large sums of cash, despite having no documented job or
- 23:53known source of legitimate income. They also found fake IDs
- 23:57seemingly intended to help her pass as an adult. But
- 24:00most concerning was a Snapchat conversation dated July twenty second,
- 24:05twenty twenty two, in which Mackenzie quoted one thousand dollars
- 24:09for pictures and two thousand, five hundred dollars for an
- 24:12in person meeting to do quote anything you want. Taken together,
- 24:18the materials painted a deeply troubling picture.
- 24:21Speaker 1: On top of.
- 24:21Speaker 3: This, her phone revealed numerous examples of reckless driving. Videos
- 24:26showed her speeding, smoking marijuana behind the wheel, recording snapchats
- 24:30while distracted, crashing during a practice run and laughing about it,
- 24:34letting go of the steering wheel, and even bragging about
- 24:37driving recklessly. But in November, detectives would discover evidence far
- 24:42beyond any reasonable doubt. After analyzing Mackenzie's phone location data,
- 24:48investigators were able to retrace her movements in the days
- 24:51leading up to the crash. That's when they made a
- 24:54dark discovery. Just days before the incident, Mackenzie had driven
- 24:59down the exact same road seven times, heading straight towards
- 25:04the same brick wall. She had practiced the route officers
- 25:10believed they had gathered enough evidence to prove Mackenzie had
- 25:14planned the murders. On November fourth, twenty twenty two, more
- 25:18than three months after the incident, officers were dispatched to
- 25:21arrest eighteen year olds Mackenzie Shirrilla.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Where she I'll beck there, pil.
- 25:29Speaker 11: I McKenzie step off for me. I'm detective Azoo. I'm
- 25:33the one who's been investigating the crash. You're under arrest
- 25:36for aggravated murder times too, Okay, nobody's gonna ask you
- 25:40any questions. Nobody's gonna bother you have your feet please?
- 25:43Speaker 8: Could you please be careful taking this one off so
- 25:46it doesn't break the braceletly got it?
- 25:47Speaker 5: You got it? Recording? Found it? Why like that? Okay?
- 26:22Speaker 1: That black mat?
- 26:28Speaker 16: What's your first day?
- 26:30Speaker 9: Okay, McKenzie, I'm gonna take your good cuss off.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I need like all the children of baby from my
- 26:34uncle Gray. Okay, We're gonna no, I need you to
- 26:37figure off more here in jail right now.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Mackenzie's parents would soon find out about her arrest and
- 26:45immediately drive to the police station and desperately confront the police,
- 26:49but it would all be too late.
- 26:52Speaker 15: I need to speak to my daughter because you guys
- 26:54don't allowed to speak to her at all. That's from
- 26:56the Lord. Are you guys do this on the weekends,
- 26:58just like you still hate there's a word for We
- 27:01would have brought.
- 27:01Speaker 5: A right down here with you.
- 27:02Speaker 15: No, don't believe she's eighteen?
- 27:06Speaker 2: Is today's were.
- 27:07Speaker 8: Better made a phone call?
- 27:08Speaker 15: Couldn't you get me a creeper out of it?
- 27:10Speaker 7: From you?
- 27:10Speaker 1: Heart watching?
- 27:11Speaker 18: So she can't take it.
- 27:14Speaker 2: It's an adult.
- 27:15Speaker 12: She can't take any phone calls right now?
- 27:17Speaker 14: Okay, Well, I.
- 27:17Speaker 15: Still need to speak to my daughter so she understands
- 27:20not saying anything to you guys would if you have
- 27:22to roll out the whole mask to pick up an
- 27:23eighteen year old girl and get her the walk out
- 27:25of a out of a hospital. But is it just
- 27:28beyond the show? We follow the law and that's what
- 27:30we're doing today. Am I going to be allowed to
- 27:32have the job minute conversation? You cannot talk the word.
- 27:35Speaker 5: Of all teacher?
- 27:36Speaker 15: Why doesn't she get she got.
- 27:38Speaker 5: A phone call?
- 27:39Speaker 14: She has just brought in. They're going to process her
- 27:42as soon as they get the time for her to
- 27:43make a phone call.
- 27:44Speaker 1: She would be able to make a phone call.
- 27:46Speaker 5: She's a lawyer.
- 27:46Speaker 15: She doesn't.
- 27:47Speaker 14: She is eighteen years old, and she could speak that.
- 27:50Speaker 15: She's a dumb eighteen year old that just turned and
- 27:53say you're gonna take a She's not going to speak
- 27:55to you, guys.
- 27:55Speaker 14: I'm telling you they can call us, don't ask her
- 27:59any question.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Her parents don't want McKenzie to talk and demand a
- 28:04lawyer is present. Mackenzie is going to need that lawyer,
- 28:08as she's going to have to face the consequences of
- 28:10her actions in a court of law. She's tried as
- 28:13an adult and decides not to be tried by jury,
- 28:16leaving her fate to a judge. Despite the defense's claims
- 28:20that she lost consciousness, the evidence against her proves this
- 28:23claim was a lie, and the prosecution believes she crashed
- 28:27the car as an easy way out of the relationship.
