- 0:00Speaker 1: Good afternoon. It's 3.06, NewsRadio 570 WKBN. Welcome to a
- 0:05Speaker 1: Monday afternoon. We're here until 6 o'clock tonight. At 6
- 0:08Speaker 1: is the pregame. And then 6.30 is the first pitch.
- 0:14Speaker 1: As the Guardians take to our airwaves on this Monday
- 0:16Speaker 1: on NewsRadio 570 WKBN. But in between then and now,
- 0:20Speaker 1: we conversate as we always do here as we start
- 0:23Speaker 1: another week. Always my honor to be with you. At 3.30... 729-9977.
- 0:28Speaker 2: 330-729-9977.
- 0:28Speaker 1: One more time for those top secret phone numbers.
- 0:31Speaker 2: 330-729-9977.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We'll get you through to us on NewsRadio 570. WKBN
- 0:33Speaker 1: and Ron Verp. Here's a question of the day here
- 0:36Speaker 1: that's from your perspective. So this is a very individual question.
- 0:55Speaker 1: diagnostic tests that I'm going to be running here today.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Doesn't that sound like I'm a medical professional? I'm going
- 1:01Speaker 1: to be running a very specific diagnostic medical test here today.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Not medical test, but here's what we're going to do.
- 1:10Speaker 1: From an economic standpoint, I want to talk a little
- 1:13Speaker 1: bit about economics with you here today. All right? And
- 1:18Speaker 1: from your perspective of things, because I think, in my estimation...
- 1:24Speaker 1: I think the economy's in a tough spot for a
- 1:32Speaker 1: lot of you listening. And when I say a lot,
- 1:35Speaker 1: I'll go further than that. For the majority of you listening,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I think the economy's in a tough situation. And it's
- 1:46Speaker 1: a very individual perspective that you might have on it.
- 1:52Speaker 1: We talk about obviously high oil prices as a result
- 1:55Speaker 1: of the situation going on in Iran. But we also,
- 2:01Speaker 1: each individual household, and I talk about it so often,
- 2:04Speaker 1: we look at the cost of electricity has doubled. Electricity
- 2:08Speaker 1: has doubled. You'll probably notice that more this year with
- 2:11Speaker 1: your air conditioning than you've ever noticed it. So electricity
- 2:16Speaker 1: has doubled. Gasoline is high. Natural gas costs are high.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So there's a lot of stuff going on and food
- 2:27Speaker 1: prices are up there. So everywhere you look, prices are
- 2:36Speaker 1: going up or increasing. Groceries, cars, repairs, parts, services, energy.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And they keep going up and... your income doesn't keep
- 2:57Speaker 1: pace with it. Now, that doesn't matter if your income
- 3:00Speaker 1: is Social Security or your income is from a paycheck.
- 3:08Speaker 1: So that's my perspective as I sit here and I
- 3:10Speaker 1: talk to people on a regular basis. And from my perspective,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I think that the economy, what's going on right now,
- 3:26Speaker 1: has affected each and every one of you in a
- 3:29Speaker 1: noticeable fashion. Yes? No? The cost of everything. And so
- 3:37Speaker 1: as I point out to you, when all of this
- 3:40Speaker 1: stuff goes up in cost, you only have so much money,
- 3:43Speaker 1: you have to make cutbacks or sacrifices somewhere. Something you
- 3:51Speaker 1: have to do Differently because you only have so much
- 3:54Speaker 1: money and if everything costs a little bit more and
- 3:58Speaker 1: you have basically the same amount of money coming in
- 4:01Speaker 1: and in many cases you don't have a Bunch of
- 4:05Speaker 1: money to offset these increases most people are not getting
- 4:10Speaker 1: bonuses or Increases that's keep pace with inflation Including on
- 4:19Speaker 1: Social Security those bonuses aren't anywhere close and To what
- 4:23Speaker 1: the actual cost of inflation is.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I'd like to have a little bit of an economic discussion.
- 4:32Speaker 1: With the class today boys and girls. That means you. Incidentally. And.
- 4:38Speaker 1: From the perspective of. I don't sense the golden age
- 4:43Speaker 1: right now. When Trump was talking about the golden age.
- 4:50Speaker 2: So.
- 4:50Speaker 3: So.
- 4:50Speaker 1: When I look around, I sense that a lot of
- 4:53Speaker 1: people are noticing this inflation and how it's affecting them
- 5:01Speaker 1: in their own households. Is that the case with you?
- 5:07Speaker 1: So it's a very individual thing. I mean, is that
- 5:09Speaker 1: the case with you? I sit and I mull this
- 5:12Speaker 1: over because, as I talk about so much on the program,
- 5:15Speaker 1: your property taxes have gone up substantially, and they will
- 5:18Speaker 1: go up again as a result of the re-evaluations going
- 5:21Speaker 1: on as we speak. So your property tax have gone up,
- 5:24Speaker 1: and they're going to go up more. Your utilities have
- 5:27Speaker 1: gone up substantially. Your gasoline cost has gone up. Grocery
- 5:34Speaker 1: costs have gone up. Insurance has gone up. Cost of
- 5:39Speaker 1: cars has gone up. Cost of repairs have gone up.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Cost of parts has gone up. Cost of insurance has
- 5:45Speaker 1: gone up. So from your perspective, what's your take on
- 5:52Speaker 1: all this? I mean, where does it stand from your situation?
- 5:58Speaker 1: How are you doing economically speaking? How are you doing?
- 6:05Speaker 1: I mean, do you sense any economic issues with yourself
- 6:11Speaker 1: and in this country right now? Because I see it
- 6:17Speaker 1: and I do. Do you? I see it and I do.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And it's troubling to me because unfortunately, I think we're
- 6:24Speaker 1: coming to a point, like just let me talk to
- 6:26Speaker 1: you for a second about electricity. When we double the
- 6:28Speaker 1: cost of electricity. we suddenly start to make people more
- 6:33Speaker 1: cognizant of things like running their air conditioning. Well, instead
- 6:38Speaker 1: of running it at 72, we'll run it at 74.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Or they won't run it as much. So there's sacrifices
- 6:47Speaker 1: that people make, in many cases, on their comfort once
- 6:50Speaker 1: they start getting these electric bills, which has doubled. What
- 6:53Speaker 1: you're paying for the cost of electricity has doubled. Now,
- 6:59Speaker 1: I don't know if I notice a difference... Sometimes I
- 7:02Speaker 1: think I do when I look at the number of
- 7:06Speaker 1: vehicles on the highway. Sometimes when I look at the
- 7:10Speaker 1: number of vehicles on the highway, I think to myself,
- 7:12Speaker 1: like when I leave the station, it's like, I sometimes
- 7:19Speaker 1: think when I leave the station, gee, it should be
- 7:21Speaker 1: busier than it is. And it's not on the highways,
- 7:25Speaker 1: or it used to be busier than it is. But
- 7:28Speaker 1: for whatever reason, it isn't. Just my observation. I mean,
- 7:33Speaker 1: there's nothing to base it on other than my observations
- 7:36Speaker 1: when I'd be driving home from the radio station in
- 7:39Speaker 1: the evening. Maybe I'm just going nuts where I would
- 7:43Speaker 1: think to myself, seems to me there used to be
- 7:45Speaker 1: more traffic here on 224 at that hour of the day.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And there's less of it. Is it because gas is
- 7:52Speaker 1: so expensive? This is what goes through my pea brain.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Or because of everything else being so expensive. So what's
- 8:01Speaker 1: your take on this? Because I keep waiting and, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 1: Trump talked about the golden age and it very well
- 8:07Speaker 1: could happen. I mean, obviously, is this just a bump
- 8:10Speaker 1: in the roads with this situation in the Middle East? Yeah,
- 8:15Speaker 1: I mean, you know, we keep hearing, oh, we're going
- 8:17Speaker 1: to resolve this. It says on my headline today, Iranian
- 8:21Speaker 1: president makes major admission about U.S. attack in Operation Epic Fury.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Just the headlines of the day. So we still don't
- 8:33Speaker 1: have an agreement there at all as far as what's
- 8:38Speaker 1: going on in the Middle East. We haven't reached an
- 8:42Speaker 1: agreement there, and it continues to go on.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 8:51Speaker 1: What else do I have here, just headline-wise? I find
- 8:59Speaker 1: the most interesting stuff usually on CNBC. when it comes
- 9:04Speaker 1: to the economy and what's going on there. For example,
- 9:11Speaker 1: NASDAQ drops for a second day as tech pullback picks
- 9:14Speaker 1: up steam. So if you look at the markets, the
- 9:19Speaker 1: S & P is down 30, NASDAQ is down 236,
- 9:22Speaker 1: the Russell is down 33, and the Dow is up 5.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So not a good day for your IRA or your 401k.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Not a good day for that. Headline. Trump pivots to
- 9:41Speaker 1: midterms affordability after China summit as Iran war persists. Well,
- 9:50Speaker 1: how about that? Maybe he should be pivoting to affordability
- 9:54Speaker 1: in time for the midterms. President Donald Trump. Defense Secretary Hegseth,
- 10:03Speaker 1: VP J.D. Vance are fanning out across the U.S. this
- 10:06Speaker 1: week for events aiming at touting domestic achievements. The Bush
- 10:10Speaker 1: comes as the Iran war and the aftermath of Trump's
- 10:13Speaker 1: China trip remain front burner issues. It also comes ahead
- 10:17Speaker 1: of the 2026 midterm elections where Democrats hope to make
- 10:21Speaker 1: gains as Americans views sour on the Iran war and
- 10:26Speaker 1: the economy. Those are the headlines. President Donald Trump has
- 10:31Speaker 1: returned stateside and so has this administration's focus. Trump and
- 10:36Speaker 1: his top officials fanning out across the U.S. this week
- 10:39Speaker 1: for events aimed at touting domestic achievements. Trump on Monday afternoon,
- 10:44Speaker 1: that's today, is set to unveil his latest efforts to
- 10:49Speaker 1: bring down health care costs, which are off the charts,
- 10:54Speaker 1: while Hegseth travels to a campaign event in Kentucky and J.D.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Vance attends a manufacturing event in Missouri. The apparent shift
- 11:03Speaker 1: days after Trump's return from Beijing comes ahead of the
- 11:06Speaker 1: fast-approaching 2026 midterm elections, where Democrats hope to regain at
- 11:10Speaker 1: least one chamber of Congress and push back against the
- 11:14Speaker 1: president's policy agendas. They're aiming to capitalize on Trump's dwindling
- 11:20Speaker 1: approval ratings, which have sunk to new lows. In multiple
- 11:24Speaker 1: recent polls, most Americans expressed negative views about the Iran
- 11:28Speaker 1: war and the state of the economy, which is what
- 11:32Speaker 1: I'm asking you about. So they talk about the state
- 11:35Speaker 1: of the economy. Those pressures have helped make affordability a
- 11:40Speaker 1: central theme of the midterms. Trump's announcement at the White
- 11:44Speaker 1: House is billed as a health care affordability event. So
- 11:51Speaker 1: the Trump administration is trying to get back to the
- 11:54Speaker 1: emphasis of affordability. And you have a Democratic strategery guy,
- 12:03Speaker 1: to quote George Bush, says that the American voter is
- 12:07Speaker 1: pissed about the economy. That would be you, incidentally. Trump
- 12:12Speaker 1: was elected on a promise to wrangle Biden near inflation
- 12:15Speaker 1: and bring down high prices, and that hasn't happened. So
- 12:18Speaker 1: the American people are pretty pissed, is the words of
- 12:24Speaker 1: Mike Nellis, a Democrat strategist. The economy is a major
- 12:30Speaker 1: marquee campaign issue. Trump recently had the lowest numbers on
- 12:35Speaker 1: the economies had in either term. Quinnipiac University poll analysis
- 12:39Speaker 1: says Tim Malloy said in a phone interview, put that
- 12:43Speaker 1: on top of gas prices. You're looking at big red flags.
- 12:49Speaker 1: There's a New York Times poll published Monday found Trump's
- 12:51Speaker 1: overall approval scrapping 37 percent, a new second term low.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It's nearly two thirds of voters said they disapprove of
- 13:00Speaker 1: his handling of the economy. Two thirds. President is expected
- 13:06Speaker 1: to announce an expansion of the number of discounted prescription
- 13:09Speaker 1: drugs offered through the administration's TrumpRx website. So there you
- 13:18Speaker 1: have it. So they're getting back to the affordability issue,
- 13:27Speaker 1: which they should. So what do you make of it?
- 13:33Speaker 1: I mean, how do you view the economy as one
- 13:36Speaker 1: of the major things, one of the things we'll talk
- 13:39Speaker 1: about here this afternoon? I mean, from your economic perspective,
- 13:43Speaker 1: how's the economy treating you? I mean, it's hard to
- 13:48Speaker 1: say that I don't believe polling, but a lot of
- 13:51Speaker 1: it I don't believe because it's been so wrong so often.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And it's shown to be that way, just wrong, right?
- 13:58Speaker 1: But is it wrong this time when the polling basically
- 14:01Speaker 1: says a lot of people are upset about the affordability issue?
- 14:04Speaker 1: So is it wrong? Maybe not. It's not always wrong.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Sometimes it's right. When it's not politically motivated. So basically
- 14:15Speaker 1: what they're saying in this polling, the affordability issue is
- 14:18Speaker 1: the big issue. And are you sitting down? I agree
- 14:22Speaker 1: with that. I think that is a huge issue with people.
- 14:26Speaker 1: All right, your comments from your perspective, from your household perspective.
- 14:33Speaker 1: But I go back to say this. Does anybody actually
- 14:36Speaker 1: believe that voting for Democrats would make affordability better? Does
- 14:42Speaker 1: anybody actually believe that going back to the Biden era,
- 14:47Speaker 1: progressive Democrats would improve the economy? Does anybody actually believe that?
- 14:54Speaker 1: I would find that hard to believe. From my perspective.
- 14:57Speaker 1: All right, should we try to squeeze a call in?
- 14:59Speaker 1: Let's try. You're on air.
- 15:02Speaker 5: No, I'm going to one center court.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Wait a second. Wait a second.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Cleveland, Ohio, one center court.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Wait a second. It's Dick from Dayton. Here it is,
- 15:12Speaker 1: Sunday night. Guess what I'm thinking about? Sunday night, I'm
- 15:16Speaker 1: thinking about one person.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I'm thinking, forget affordability for a minute. Sunday night, last night,
- 15:22Speaker 1: I'm thinking about one person. You know who that one
- 15:24Speaker 1: person was?
- 15:25Speaker 2: Me.
- 15:26Speaker 1: You. I'm thinking about Dick from Dayton when the Cavaliers...
- 15:30Speaker 1: won last night. These basketball playoffs, they go on forever, incidentally.
- 15:36Speaker 1: They never end. But the Cavaliers must win one. And
- 15:40Speaker 1: so I'm sitting here thinking, well, I bet you Dick
- 15:42Speaker 1: from Dayton's excited. So now back to the court on Tuesday, right?
- 15:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I just never, everybody at the, you know, down the
- 15:50Speaker 5: dial there was all, you know, they're going to choke
- 15:53Speaker 5: and thing. I just, You know, out of malls, one
- 15:57Speaker 5: of my friends, I put a lot of pennies in there,
- 16:00Speaker 5: but I thought they looked pretty good, didn't they?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yes, they did. Hallelujah, Dick. Hallelujah. And the Guardians, too.
- 16:11Speaker 5: How about that?
- 16:12Speaker 1: We'll be back. Youngstown's news, weather, and talk station, 570 WKBN.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I know, 325 in the afternoon. It's 90 degrees here
- 16:24Speaker 1: in Tiffany Boulevard in Boardman on this Monday, May 18th.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I was thinking about Dick from Dayton last night with
- 16:30Speaker 1: the Cavs winning late last night. So onward they go
- 16:35Speaker 1: to the next round of it. Basketball playoffs go on forever.
- 16:38Speaker 1: It's ridiculous. You're on the air. Hello.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Hello. Hello?
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yes, speak your piece.
- 16:47Speaker 6: Hey, I was going to say I heard you talking
- 16:48Speaker 6: about what they said about President Trump. I've been a
- 16:52Speaker 6: lifelong Democrat, haven't voted Democrat in about 20 years. I'm
- 16:57Speaker 6: a history major, was working on my master's in history education.
- 17:01Speaker 6: I believe President Trump has done more for our country
- 17:05Speaker 6: in a short period of time, called us a Christian nation,
- 17:08Speaker 6: brought back integrity, strength. and I will sacrifice at $ 5
- 17:13Speaker 6: a gallon for gas. Everybody here in the U.S., according
- 17:17Speaker 6: to me at 60 years old, they want everything that
- 17:21Speaker 6: they didn't earn, and they're not willing to sacrifice by
- 17:24Speaker 6: giving up cable or the more expensive car. I worry
- 17:28Speaker 6: about my kids who are still teenagers, and I worry
- 17:31Speaker 6: about their future. So I think the president's approval rating
- 17:35Speaker 6: for me is much higher than what they say. And
- 17:37Speaker 6: I am thankful that we have him every day. The economy,
- 17:41Speaker 6: I still think, is going well. And as for the war,
- 17:44Speaker 6: every president has said Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.
- 17:48Speaker 6: He's the only one that did anything. He's through strength.
- 17:52Speaker 6: I totally believe it, Ron.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Thank you for your time.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Thank you. So there you go. How about that? Now,
- 17:58Speaker 1: do you see many other guys like that in polling?
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'm just curious. I mean, as he speaks, you're on
- 18:02Speaker 1: the air.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Hey, Ron.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Fort Lauderdale, Frank. Hello.
- 18:08Speaker 2: That guy that just called he had a caller last
- 18:11Speaker 2: week that said ancient Rome was one of the most
- 18:15Speaker 2: peaceful societies in history they were actually one of the
- 18:19Speaker 2: most warlike so this guy said he was a history
- 18:22Speaker 2: major have him call again and say that Frank was
- 18:26Speaker 2: right now also Jacob the Zionist when I said that
- 18:33Speaker 2: America is a nation of spenders and debtors in China
- 18:38Speaker 2: as a nation, savers and investors. He called all irate,
- 18:45Speaker 2: saying that's because China is a slave labor economy. Well,
- 18:51Speaker 2: I did some research, and the Uyghurs, there's 80,000 Uyghurs
- 18:57Speaker 2: that have been enslaved out of a population of 1.9
- 19:01Speaker 2: billion Chinese people. And he said that China's broke.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Wait a minute. But they are enslaved, and they are abused.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I mean, let's be realistic. I'm not here to hear
- 19:19Speaker 1: you champion how great China is.
- 19:22Speaker 2: No, he was saying that the whole economy is slave labor.
- 19:27Speaker 2: That's ridiculous. It would be like 200 people in Ohio
- 19:31Speaker 2: being enslaved and saying, hey, it's a enslaved state. That's ridiculous.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Well, first of all, when you look at the Chinese
- 19:39Speaker 1: economy and you try to compare it to the United
- 19:42Speaker 1: States economy, they don't have a lot of the requirements
- 19:45Speaker 1: we have here or the standard that we have here
- 19:48Speaker 1: in many wages. They're not dealing with OSHA. They're not
- 19:51Speaker 1: dealing with unemployment and Social Security and health care. They're
- 19:55Speaker 1: not dealing with some of these Chinese factories are god-awful.
- 19:59Speaker 1: So let's not act like China's this perfect spot and
- 20:03Speaker 1: they got it all figured out and they don't exploit
- 20:06Speaker 1: their people and they're not a communist country. Stand by.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Fort Lauderdale, Frank, coming back with him in a minute.
- 20:12Speaker 1: So stay tuned. All right, it's 3.34, back to Fort Lauderdale, Frank.
- 20:18Speaker 1: All right, I don't want to hear too much more
- 20:21Speaker 1: about China's economy and that kind of stuff. I'm focused
- 20:24Speaker 1: more on this country's economy. This is where I live, okay? And,
- 20:29Speaker 1: you know, I get tired of... Some of these people
- 20:33Speaker 1: who think you're unable to criticize anything. I mean, I
- 20:37Speaker 1: genuinely get troubled by some Trump supporters that lack any
- 20:43Speaker 1: ability to criticize anything or look differently at anything. I
- 20:48Speaker 1: don't think because I voted for Trump three times, supported Trump,
- 20:53Speaker 1: And that means I got to agree with everything he does.
- 20:57Speaker 1: And that's the only thing that's acceptable. And there are
- 21:00Speaker 1: people that are like that, that seem to have that mentality.
- 21:04Speaker 1: That is not my mentality. I didn't appreciate Democrats who
- 21:10Speaker 1: did that with Joe Biden. And I certainly won't do
- 21:12Speaker 1: that with Trump. There's many things about Trump that I
- 21:14Speaker 1: find annoying and have found annoying over his tenure as president.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Many things that I find that we've talked about in
- 21:21Speaker 1: the past. I don't go along with everything and say, oh,
- 21:24Speaker 1: whatever Trump's for, I'm for 100%. I'm not going to
- 21:27Speaker 1: question anything. He's just the most brilliant guy on the planet.
- 21:32Speaker 1: So the people that are like that are nothing but cheerleaders.
- 21:35Speaker 1: That's exactly what they are. They are out of touch cheerleaders.
- 21:39Speaker 1: So as I say, does that mean I would vote
- 21:41Speaker 1: for Sherrod Brown or any Democrat? Absolutely not. But it
- 21:45Speaker 1: also doesn't mean that I put my brain on check
- 21:49Speaker 1: and just say, well, whatever Trump reverses himself on or
- 21:53Speaker 1: whatever the Republicans do, it's A-OK. And that isn't the
- 21:57Speaker 1: case either. Don't stop thinking. So forget the Chinese economy, Frank.
- 22:02Speaker 1: We should be focusing on our economy, the American economy,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and what's happening here.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Well, Ron, what have I always said that my concern
- 22:13Speaker 2: with China is? They have so much money, they're buying
- 22:17Speaker 2: tons of land in our country and shares in our stock.
- 22:22Speaker 2: And they're buying land. near military installations because i believe
- 22:28Speaker 2: they want to spy on.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Us but how stupid are we frank for selling it
- 22:32Speaker 1: to them how stupid are we as a country to
- 22:35Speaker 1: sell our prime farmland any of it to china or
- 22:39Speaker 1: any of this stuff by military bases to china we
- 22:42Speaker 1: are fools for doing that.
- 22:46Speaker 2: You ready for the bad news now the market is
- 22:49Speaker 2: way down today yes and for the xenophobics like jacob
- 22:54Speaker 2: The Zionist stock market is way down, too. But my
- 23:01Speaker 2: AI stocks, I had to buy some more. I have
- 23:05Speaker 2: a few that are down over 10% in just today alone, Ron.
- 23:10Speaker 2: And you know the reason why the market is crashing?
- 23:14Speaker 2: Because Wall Street believes that this war, that they way
- 23:19Speaker 2: underestimated how long this war is going to last. They, well,
- 23:25Speaker 2: way up again today, Wall Street believes that oil is
- 23:30Speaker 2: going to keep going up in price and that this
- 23:33Speaker 2: war is going to last a lot longer than they thought.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Well, here we go. All the Trump cheerleaders can get
- 23:40Speaker 1: in a tizzy here. I agree with you. I think
- 23:43Speaker 1: that this war has gone on much longer than they
- 23:45Speaker 1: thought it would happen, and it's not going as has
- 23:49Speaker 1: been planned. I honestly think that they thought that this
- 23:54Speaker 1: would be over much sooner than it is. I mean,
- 23:57Speaker 1: we did the bunker buster, and then we did all
- 24:00Speaker 1: this bombing, and we still don't have an agreement or
- 24:03Speaker 1: still don't have them on the key issues in agreeing
- 24:06Speaker 1: with that. So they talk about, well, maybe we have
- 24:08Speaker 1: to do more bombing, thinking that that's going to bring
- 24:11Speaker 1: them to the negotiating table and agree with all of
- 24:14Speaker 1: this kind of stuff. It seems like they're pretty well
- 24:17Speaker 1: dug in on their position as well. So I agree
- 24:19Speaker 1: with you. I do agree with you. I don't think
- 24:22Speaker 1: this is taking longer than they thought it would take.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I do agree.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Well, this is the value of diversification. While my AI
- 24:33Speaker 2: stocks are crashing, I bought a lot of oil stocks
- 24:37Speaker 2: and they're way up. I got one that's up 25%
- 24:40Speaker 2: and I've only owned it three days. But You know,
- 24:45Speaker 2: as far, I think we ought to listen to Prince
- 24:49Speaker 2: Turkey Al-Faisal, former head of Saudi intelligence. He said when
- 24:54Speaker 2: Iran and others try to drag Saudi Arabia into the
- 24:58Speaker 2: furnace of destruction, that their leadership chose to endure the
- 25:02Speaker 2: pains caused by a neighbor in order to protect the
- 25:05Speaker 2: lives and property of its citizens. He said had the
- 25:09Speaker 2: kingdom wanted to respond by destroying Saudi Iranian facilities. The
- 25:14Speaker 2: outcome would have been the destruction of our oil facilities
- 25:18Speaker 2: and desalinization plants. He said Israel tried to ignite a
- 25:22Speaker 2: war between us and Iran, and if it had succeeded,
- 25:26Speaker 2: the whole region would have been plunged into ruin and destruction.
- 25:31Speaker 2: And he said thousands of our sons and daughters would
- 25:34Speaker 2: have been lost in battles that we have no stake in,
- 25:38Speaker 2: and Israel would have been able to impose their will
- 25:41Speaker 2: on the region And let me tell you this, too, Ron.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Although Iran has attacked U.S. military assets in Saudi Arabia,
- 25:51Speaker 2: they have not attacked Saudi oil interests. In fact, I
- 25:55Speaker 2: looked it up today. Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company.
- 26:00Speaker 2: is earning record profits.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Well, nothing would surprise me that all these oil companies
- 26:05Speaker 1: are going to have record profits as we pay through
- 26:07Speaker 1: the nose. I mean, that doesn't shock me at all.
- 26:10Speaker 1: But going back once again, I agree with you. I
- 26:13Speaker 1: think that this is dragging on much longer than the
- 26:15Speaker 1: administration thought it would go on, and perhaps they were
- 26:19Speaker 1: misled by Israel on this situation or misread it or
- 26:24Speaker 1: didn't listen to their advisors. I'm sure that there were
- 26:27Speaker 1: advisors that said, if they could muster up the courage
- 26:30Speaker 1: to tell Trump that they thought that this was a
- 26:33Speaker 1: bad idea or thought maybe that this would take longer
- 26:36Speaker 1: than they might anticipate that this wouldn't be like Venezuela.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I got a question to throw out to the audience.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Instead of putting ground troops in Iran or wherever, why
- 26:50Speaker 2: are we not using soldier robots? I mean, they can
- 26:55Speaker 2: do anything better than the soldier. They don't have to
- 26:58Speaker 2: be fed. They don't have to worry about getting wounded.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Well, I would just ask you this question. How successful
- 27:08Speaker 1: have missions been without boots on the ground? I mean,
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm just asking a general question. Do you think you
- 27:14Speaker 1: can win these conflicts by bombing?
- 27:19Speaker 4: Like I've said before..
- 27:21Speaker 2: The Air Force generals keep telling the politicians, we don't
- 27:25Speaker 2: need boots on the ground. We can simply win by
- 27:29Speaker 2: air power alone. We've never won a war by air
- 27:33Speaker 2: power alone. So I agree with you completely.
- 27:37Speaker 1: You've been around long enough. It does remind me somewhat
- 27:39Speaker 1: of Vietnam. I mean, Trump was elected by people who
- 27:44Speaker 1: don't want these endless wars and regime change wars in
- 27:47Speaker 1: the Middle East. They don't want that. And they look
- 27:51Speaker 1: at the history of what we've done there and look
- 27:53Speaker 1: at the history of Vietnam and saying, okay, so... Ron, if.
- 28:00Speaker 2: This war continues dragging on and on, what do you
- 28:04Speaker 2: think is going to happen to the economy?
- 28:06Speaker 1: I think it's going to deteriorate even more.
- 28:10Speaker 2: And plus, not only soldier robots... But how many robots
- 28:14Speaker 2: are going to put American workers.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Out of job? Right. That's a whole different discussion. You know,
- 28:18Speaker 1: when you're talking soldier robots, sometimes I think you're smoking
- 28:21Speaker 1: weed down there in Fort Lauderdale.
- 28:24Speaker 2: You haven't seen these robots.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Has J.J. the Liberal been down there? Are you smoking
- 28:28Speaker 1: weed with J.J. the Liberal down in Fort Lauderdale? I mean,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I'm just dealing with the reality today. It's dragging on
- 28:36Speaker 1: longer than I thought. I don't know if there's a
- 28:39Speaker 1: good way out. I just don't know what the plan
- 28:44Speaker 1: is at this point. If Iran digs itself in and says,
- 28:48Speaker 1: we're not doing any of this stuff. We're not going
- 28:50Speaker 1: to give in to any of this. There's a number
- 28:53Speaker 1: of problems that I would bounce off of you, Frank.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Who are you negotiating with? I mean, first and foremost,
- 28:59Speaker 1: you wiped out most of the people, which is a
- 29:01Speaker 1: good thing. So can you sit back and say, who's
- 29:04Speaker 1: really in charge? Who's really making the decisions? Who has
- 29:08Speaker 1: the authority to make the decisions? That seems to me
- 29:12Speaker 1: that that would be a difficult situation to figure out.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Who do you communicate with and how do you communicate
- 29:18Speaker 1: with them?
- 29:19Speaker 2: Well, Iran's military has planned for this. They plan for
- 29:23Speaker 2: their leadership to be wiped out, the same as Hezbollah,
- 29:27Speaker 2: which is not a terrorist organization, plan that if their
- 29:32Speaker 2: leaders get killed in battle, the next in command is
- 29:36Speaker 2: well trained to completely take over. down to the private
- 29:41Speaker 2: in Hezbollah.
- 29:43Speaker 1: The bottom line is this. Listen, I guess the only
- 29:47Speaker 1: thing you and I can agree on today is that
- 29:49Speaker 1: this is taking longer than they anticipated. And when you
- 29:52Speaker 1: ask me the key question, do I think what will
- 29:54Speaker 1: happen with the economy as this drags on, I don't
- 29:57Speaker 1: think nothing good is going to happen. I think it
- 29:59Speaker 1: just gets worse. How's that?
- 30:01Speaker 2: Well, like I said, my oil stocks are doing great.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I don't care if you make a fortune. I'm talking
- 30:06Speaker 1: about everybody in general. Go spend some time with those
- 30:09Speaker 1: young women that are under the age of, what, 60
- 30:14Speaker 1: that you're hanging out with down there that are in
- 30:16Speaker 1: their 30s and 40s with that harem that you have,
- 30:20Speaker 1: all right?
- 30:21Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I got it. I worry about the icebox.
- 30:26Speaker 1: All right, there he is.
- 30:27Speaker 7: Fort Lauderdale.
- 30:29Speaker 1: It's 90 degrees here. Fort Lauderdale, Frank, thank you. You're
- 30:32Speaker 1: on the air. Hello.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Hello, Ron.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Yes, go ahead, you old battleaxe. I mean, sweetheart.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Oh, okay. This is Jane from Butler, PA, calling.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 30:46Speaker 4: You've heard of that. I just was wondering if any
- 30:49Speaker 4: of your other listeners enjoyed their afternoon here yesterday as
- 30:54Speaker 4: I did. I watched Newsmax all afternoon, and it was
- 31:00Speaker 4: a day of prayer for our country. There were over
- 31:04Speaker 4: 15,000 people on the D.C. Mall.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Probably not. Probably you're saying, do you think a lot
- 31:12Speaker 1: of people were watching? What was yesterday? Yesterday seemed to
- 31:15Speaker 1: me it was a beautiful day. It was Sunday. So
- 31:20Speaker 1: I doubt that everybody was in the house watching TV
- 31:22Speaker 1: and glued to Newsmax and some prayer vigil. I think
- 31:25Speaker 1: most people were probably outside enjoying this beautiful day here
- 31:28Speaker 1: in the great state of Ohio.
- 31:31Speaker 4: Well, that could be. But they had so many good speakers,
- 31:36Speaker 4: so much good Christian music, so many prayers.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Well, I was not watching it, I must confess. I
- 31:44Speaker 1: was enjoying life.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Well, I'm glad to hear that.
- 31:50Speaker 1: You should get out of the house more on a
- 31:52Speaker 1: beautiful day.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Well, I did go for a little walk and went
- 31:56Speaker 4: to church. But anyway, it was very uplifting to hear
- 32:01Speaker 4: so many members of our cabinet, to hear Donald Trump
- 32:05Speaker 4: read the Bible.
- 32:08Speaker 1: But sometimes, I mean, when you hear Trump read the Bible,
- 32:11Speaker 1: sometimes it's a little bit tough to take just knowing...
- 32:15Speaker 1: I mean, let's be realistic. He's a playboy. He's been
- 32:18Speaker 1: a playboy. He's been married a number of times. He
- 32:20Speaker 1: isn't exactly the most Christian-living guy.
- 32:23Speaker 4: I believe he is now, since the incident.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Well, anything is possible, I'm sure. But the idea that
- 32:32Speaker 1: he's a religious person..
- 32:36Speaker 4: Well, I was wondering if any of your other listeners had...
- 32:40Speaker 4: happened to catch part of it anyway. Dr. Ben Carson
- 32:44Speaker 4: really impressed me, too.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I don't think so. Most of our listeners are heathens.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Well, now, Ron, I don't think you are. There were many.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Priests there, too.
- 32:58Speaker 4: It wasn't just one religion. There were many priests there
- 33:03Speaker 4: who talked.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I was just trying to shock you, okay? That's all.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Thank you. She was watching Newsmax yesterday. You're on the air, 347.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Ron Verb, hello.
- 33:15Speaker 8: So you missed Newsmax, Ron.
- 33:16Speaker 7: It was great.
- 33:18Speaker 8: Yesterday, they also announced..
- 33:21Speaker 1: Why were you watching Newsmax all day yesterday? Wait, wait, wait.
- 33:25Speaker 8: Trump announced that we were going to enslave the people
- 33:29Speaker 8: of Fort Lauderdale, but it's still a free country because
- 33:32Speaker 8: it's only Fort Lauderdale.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 33:34Speaker 8: And then And we were going to send the people
- 33:36Speaker 8: of Fort Lauderdale to Iran to fight.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Oh, the boots on the ground.
- 33:42Speaker 8: I was just thinking, yeah, Frank might appreciate that update.
- 33:44Speaker 8: This is just as good as China.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I put Frank in his place. I don't want to
- 33:48Speaker 1: hear about China. The Chinese economy doesn't, I don't sit
- 33:53Speaker 1: thinking about a lot. I think about the American economy.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I don't know if you know this. I live in
- 33:57Speaker 1: the United States of America. The only economy that matters
- 34:00Speaker 1: to me is this economy. And by the way, Mikel,
- 34:03Speaker 1: the guru of Gerard, how do you assess the economy
- 34:06Speaker 1: as we speak today?
- 34:09Speaker 8: I think it's bad. I think AI doesn't, No, it's
- 34:14Speaker 8: worse than taking jobs. It doesn't know if it's going
- 34:17Speaker 8: to take jobs, you know? I mean, there's just nobody
- 34:20Speaker 8: knows how to act. There's that part of it. The
- 34:25Speaker 8: land grabs and electricity grabs and everything, I just think
- 34:30Speaker 8: it needs to be done a little slower, and they're not.
- 34:38Speaker 8: And I just... You know, everything costs too much, Ron.
- 34:42Speaker 8: And just like you said, there's not cars on the road.
- 34:44Speaker 8: I'm not driving. I'm not in my backyard painting a building.
- 34:48Speaker 8: Because I had the paint and I had the time.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Right. So you think the economy's in a bad spot
- 34:56Speaker 1: right now? Yes.
- 34:57Speaker 4: I do.
- 34:58Speaker 8: Yes, I really do.
- 34:59Speaker 1: And do you sense it's going to be getting better
- 35:03Speaker 1: or worse as this war drags on?
- 35:06Speaker 8: Apparently, I think worse. because I just don't see how
- 35:11Speaker 8: it gets better until we went there, we were, you know,
- 35:15Speaker 8: we were kicking butt and everything and destroyed everybody who
- 35:18Speaker 8: was in charge, but then we said, oh, now that
- 35:20Speaker 8: there's no one in charge, let's talk. You know what
- 35:23Speaker 8: I mean? It just doesn't make any sense, man. Like
- 35:24Speaker 8: I said, if you're going to fight, fight until there's
- 35:27Speaker 8: no one left and everybody's like, okay, whatever you need,
- 35:30Speaker 8: we'll do, and then you know you won, and then
- 35:34Speaker 8: you can take advantage of it and rebuild the country
- 35:37Speaker 8: if you need to, whatever, but Just blowing it up
- 35:41Speaker 8: and then waiting to see who comes up and all this.
- 35:45Speaker 8: Who's going to come out and do that just out
- 35:48Speaker 8: of the goodness of their heart? Maybe they're waiting for
- 35:51Speaker 8: a civil war to happen. I don't know, but if so,
- 35:56Speaker 8: I think the CIA better get a lot more busy
- 35:58Speaker 8: than they are.
- 36:00Speaker 1: And be open-minded. Because whatever that percentage is, and who
- 36:04Speaker 1: knows what the percentage is of the Civil War, is
- 36:07Speaker 1: it that big a percentage over the people who are
- 36:09Speaker 1: opposed to the Civil War? I think you pointed that
- 36:11Speaker 1: out on Friday's program, if I'm not mistaken. I mean,
- 36:15Speaker 1: so it depends what those numbers are. And guess who
- 36:18Speaker 1: has all the guns? The people that would be opposed
- 36:21Speaker 1: to the Civil War.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Right.
- 36:23Speaker 8: And that's what I mean.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Like, he really..
- 36:26Speaker 8: If they went in and just started fighting again now,
- 36:29Speaker 8: and maybe there's a chance it could end, but I
- 36:33Speaker 8: don't see that happening. It's gotten all political, just like
- 36:35Speaker 8: all the other wars that happened over there. You know,
- 36:38Speaker 8: everybody's like, hey, what about my oil?
- 36:41Speaker 5: You know?
- 36:43Speaker 1: So you think Iran will just kind of wait this out?
- 36:48Speaker 1: You don't see them saying, after all of this activity
- 36:52Speaker 1: so far and everything that's been going on, you don't
- 36:55Speaker 1: see them caving into the United States demands at all.
- 36:59Speaker 1: They seem to be resolute in their position and this
- 37:05Speaker 1: continues to drag on yet another week or two or three,
- 37:09Speaker 1: who knows.
- 37:11Speaker 8: They're just playing, they're giving them as much leash as
- 37:14Speaker 8: you would give a bad dog, you know? And that's
- 37:19Speaker 8: what I think. I hate to say it, they never
- 37:21Speaker 8: should have started the war, but if we started it,
- 37:23Speaker 8: let's finish it.
- 37:26Speaker 1: I tell you what, he always, I always find him interesting.
- 37:29Speaker 1: He's a guru to charge. Thank you, Mike. Appreciate it.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Back in a minute.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Take care.
- 37:33Speaker 1: News Radio 570 WKBN. And Ron Firm from the Kingdom
- 37:37Speaker 1: of Mahoning, and you're on the air. Hello.
- 37:40Speaker 6: Hi, Ron.
- 37:41Speaker 7: It isn't much. I hate this thing going on in Iran.
- 37:47Speaker 7: I just pray for the soldiers that are involved, and
- 37:50Speaker 7: I don't think that Trump has a way out of
- 37:52Speaker 7: this that makes him look good, but... I just hope
- 37:56Speaker 7: we can get out of it where we don't lose
- 37:58Speaker 7: too many more lives. And as far as the economy goes,
- 38:03Speaker 7: my economy is doing great. I'm not in the stock market.
- 38:07Speaker 7: I'm working. I'm running up and down the road like
- 38:10Speaker 7: an idiot and delivering food products or food manufacturing. And
- 38:19Speaker 7: it's a beautiful day to be on the road. I'm
- 38:21Speaker 7: right beside the Susquehanna River right now going downtown.
- 38:24Speaker 4: U.S.
- 38:25Speaker 7: Route 15, what a gorgeous drive this is.
- 38:28Speaker 1: So basically, in your world, happy to be alive, great day,
- 38:33Speaker 1: and economically, you're coping with the inflation. Oh, yeah.
- 38:38Speaker 7: I mean, I should be retired right now, but I'll
- 38:41Speaker 7: work and get through this. I'll get through this just fine.
- 38:45Speaker 1: See, there's a unique perspective, so you're not sitting up
- 38:49Speaker 1: worried about it. I appreciate your outlook. I find it refreshing,
- 38:54Speaker 1: quite frankly, and I appreciate it. Thank you for your call.
- 38:58Speaker 7: Keep moving. If you don't, they throw dirt on you.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Well, thanks for reminding me. I appreciate it. It's getting
- 39:06Speaker 1: along so good with him, and then he reminds me
- 39:07Speaker 1: of that. All right, stay tuned. Call us online. Stand by.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Long segment coming up. We're here till..
- 39:17Speaker 3: From ABC News.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I'm Mike Dabusky.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Right now, police in San Diego are responding to an
- 39:23Speaker 3: active shooter situation at a local Islamic center, with the
- 39:26Speaker 3: department calling the scene active but contained.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Multiple victims. Shooters are not in custody.
- 39:33Speaker 8: He continues to have an increased presence.
- 39:36Speaker 3: That sound from Broadcastify. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria posting
- 39:40Speaker 3: on social media that he's receiving updates from law enforcement.
- 39:43Speaker 3: California Governor Gavin Newsom has also been briefed on the situation.
- 39:47Speaker 3: President Trump now says serious discussions are taking place with
- 39:50Speaker 3: Iran and is calling off strikes on the country that
- 39:53Speaker 3: had been planned for tomorrow. More from ABC's James Longman.
- 39:56Speaker 9: What Donald Trump seems to want is an agreement now
- 39:59Speaker 9: that not only will Iran open the Strait of Hormuz,
- 40:01Speaker 9: but it'll also agree... to his nuclear demands. And that
- 40:05Speaker 9: is to say, and we understand, and it was clear
- 40:07Speaker 9: last week, the president believes that Iran's commitment to stopping
- 40:11Speaker 9: enriching uranium for a period of 20 years is something
- 40:13Speaker 9: that he wants and he would accept in any deal.
- 40:16Speaker 9: But the Iranians don't want.
- 40:16Speaker 1: To get there.
- 40:17Speaker 9: They want to talk about Hormuz first. We're seeing Iran
- 40:20Speaker 9: and the United States come at this from two different directions.
- 40:22Speaker 3: President Trump earlier today announced he's dropping his lawsuit against
- 40:25Speaker 3: the IRS as part of the settlement. The Department of
- 40:28Speaker 3: Justice will create a fund of taxpayer dollars to finance
- 40:32Speaker 3: payments to people who claim to have been victimized by
- 40:35Speaker 3: the government. An American who'd been working for the Democratic
- 40:38Speaker 3: Republic of the Congo has tested positive for Ebola.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Dr.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Satish Pillai is the CDC's incident manager for Ebola response.
- 40:45Speaker 3: CDC has been working hand in hand with the Department
