- 0:04Speaker 1: but hailing from the city of Sands. Put your hands
- 0:06Speaker 1: together for Jamison Wells. And in this corner, standing at
- 0:10Speaker 1: five foot ten, weighing in at town and coming to
- 0:14Speaker 1: us from his super secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Put your hands together for Louis Montemao.
- 0:26Speaker 2: All right, welcome to another edition of the Mix Company podcast.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Of course, I'm one half of the show. I'm my
- 0:31Speaker 2: name is Jamison. As always, I'm joyned by Louise Louis.
- 0:34Speaker 3: What's going on, man, Well, Jamison, we are here to
- 0:38Speaker 3: talk about boxing, but I got to take a minute
- 0:40Speaker 3: a second here to shout out Mexico, specifically Las alex Nao,
- 0:44Speaker 3: the Mexican soccer team. Over this past weekend, they were
- 0:47Speaker 3: eliminated from the World Cup, but man, I had a
- 0:49Speaker 3: great time watching all their games. I got really invested.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I've never been this invested in soccer in the World
- 0:55Speaker 3: Cup until this year, and it was really cool. You know,
- 0:58Speaker 3: I felt like I was really expending my horizons. And
- 1:02Speaker 3: you know, also, you know, I'm from Texas. My parents
- 1:04Speaker 3: are both from Mexico, so it was really cool. Seeing
- 1:07Speaker 3: online everybody having a great time visiting there, with all
- 1:10Speaker 3: the people there, the celebrations, and just really just kind
- 1:14Speaker 3: of put the country to new light to a lot
- 1:16Speaker 3: of people in the world. All the friendship that Mexico
- 1:20Speaker 3: had with the South Korean fans, and how they treated
- 1:22Speaker 3: the Iranian team after they were screwed over by FIFA,
- 1:25Speaker 3: all of that. I just wanted to take a second
- 1:27Speaker 3: to say, man, I've never had this much fun during
- 1:30Speaker 3: World Cup season, and we are ultimately a sports show,
- 1:33Speaker 3: so I wanted to go shout out, and you know,
- 1:35Speaker 3: it was disappointing, but it was so cool to experience
- 1:38Speaker 3: that those games with the crowd. It wasn't exactly how
- 1:41Speaker 3: I felt watching boxing with a group of people, but
- 1:44Speaker 3: it got damn close. So shout out to the amazing
- 1:47Speaker 3: times that I had, you know, in the last few
- 1:49Speaker 3: weeks with the Mexico team. But like I said, we're
- 1:52Speaker 3: here to talk about boxing, so let's get right to it.
- 1:56Speaker 3: We want to talk about the big the big event
- 1:58Speaker 3: over the weekend. Mason had a really great match against
- 2:02Speaker 3: Albert Bell last past Saturday on July fourth. I'll start here.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Last episode. I feel bad because last episode or the
- 2:11Speaker 3: other I said, Abdullah Mason is fighting. They swapped out
- 2:14Speaker 3: his opponent. I don't remember who it is. I just
- 2:16Speaker 3: care about seeing Abdullah, And I feel bad that I
- 2:20Speaker 3: didn't give props to or do any research in Alberbella,
- 2:23Speaker 3: because that man was put in a great performance in
- 2:25Speaker 3: the first half of the fight. And I just wanted
- 2:27Speaker 3: to see what your thoughts were. And also, you know,
- 2:30Speaker 3: did you watch it at home? Did you bring people
- 2:31Speaker 3: over for the fourth what was your weekend? Like?
- 2:34Speaker 4: So it was late at night.
- 2:36Speaker 2: It started cars started early with the fight and happened
- 2:39Speaker 2: to like like nine our.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Time, if I'm not mistaken, Yeah, thereabouts.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was later at night. I was chilling
- 2:45Speaker 2: out the crib. I had somewhere to go after but no,
- 2:49Speaker 2: I was chilling. I'll watch them fight. And first of all,
- 2:52Speaker 2: the TNG production wasn't bad for its first like go around.
- 2:56Speaker 4: I was rather impressed, like.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Because normally, you know, boxing reduction could hit of miss
- 3:01Speaker 2: spending on who's running it and what's going on. They
- 3:03Speaker 2: were on top of it. They were on the ball.
- 3:05Speaker 2: With that being said, that fight was very entertaining. Even
- 3:11Speaker 2: if you know the stoppage is gonna be what's gonna
- 3:13Speaker 2: be The scorecards were what they were, but the fight
- 3:17Speaker 2: was entertaining. You had a guy that no one really
- 3:19Speaker 2: knew and he faw his ass off for like seven
- 3:22Speaker 2: eight rounds and he gave real doubts and that fight,
- 3:27Speaker 2: he gave some real concerns to the guy that was
- 3:30Speaker 2: supposed to walk through him. And that's always interesting because
- 3:34Speaker 2: first come around, Hey it is what it is, feel
- 3:37Speaker 2: out processed, all right, whatever? Right around four or five,
- 3:41Speaker 2: it's like, hey, man, like might want to wake up,
- 3:44Speaker 2: might want to get you know, because everybody's scorecard is different,
- 3:47Speaker 2: Like the scorecard on the TV was similar to a
- 3:50Speaker 2: lot of the people's scorecards that were watching the fight
- 3:52Speaker 2: that we were talking.
- 3:53Speaker 4: People were talking back and forth like hey, what do
- 3:55Speaker 4: you think is going on? What do you like? It
- 3:57Speaker 4: was more to what's on TV than what the judges had,
- 3:59Speaker 4: that's for sure.
- 4:00Speaker 2: With all that being said, Yo, Abdulla Mason did wake
- 4:06Speaker 2: up around around six seven, and then he showed he
- 4:11Speaker 2: was a superior fighter. But it's a very very risky play. Now,
- 4:15Speaker 2: he wasn't home, and I get it he probably wasn't
- 4:17Speaker 2: gonna lose, but man, he did not look in press
- 4:21Speaker 2: in the first five rounds.
- 4:22Speaker 4: He did get in sorted out to come to finish
- 4:25Speaker 4: the show.
- 4:25Speaker 2: He did do that, but he was very, very risky
- 4:28Speaker 2: because that could win a different direction with a better
- 4:31Speaker 2: fighter than Alburbil.
- 4:33Speaker 3: One hundred percent, And just a little background here. You know,
- 4:35Speaker 3: Abdula Mason is twenty two. He's the youngest world champ
- 4:38Speaker 3: I believe. Ever, Albabella is thirty three. And no disrespect
- 4:42Speaker 3: to anybody, but if you're over thirty and you're boxing,
- 4:44Speaker 3: you were an old man. Let's speak clear about that.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It's it's a young man's game. But yeah, I one
- 4:50Speaker 3: hundred percent. Alberbell won the first half of that fight.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Uh And actually I just realize now I didn't really
- 4:56Speaker 3: go back to see the scorecards, but watching it, I
- 4:58Speaker 3: believed that Albert Bell won all six rounds starting off.
- 5:03Speaker 3: So Mason, you know, the question here is is he
- 5:07Speaker 3: still not tested enough or was he you know, you know,
- 5:10Speaker 3: you could throw a couple of rounds away, start slow
- 5:12Speaker 3: timing somebody, get to know them and download information and
- 5:16Speaker 3: then coming strong. A lot of our favorite fighters have
- 5:18Speaker 3: done that. I don't know. I mean, I obviously he
- 5:22Speaker 3: adjusted halfway through the fight, which is what the greats
- 5:25Speaker 3: do have to do. What are your thoughts on Mason
- 5:28Speaker 3: being not yet seasoned or whether he did exactly what
- 5:31Speaker 3: he needed to do in his career at this point.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So it's always good to see guys challenged, even though
- 5:37Speaker 2: if it's self inflicted. It's always good to see guys
- 5:40Speaker 2: have to fight when things aren't great. You want adversity,
- 5:42Speaker 2: not to adversity now, but you want adversity. You want
- 5:45Speaker 2: to see what brings what eversity brings out of boxers.
- 5:50Speaker 2: That's what you always want to see because we've seen
- 5:52Speaker 2: it too many times on the big screen that hey,
- 5:55Speaker 2: this first time I ever got an university.
- 5:56Speaker 4: They know how to react.
- 5:58Speaker 2: It's good to face adversity in these fights to where hey,
- 6:01Speaker 2: you can kind of get it, dig your own whole out,
- 6:03Speaker 2: figure it out, get the w rather than take the
- 6:06Speaker 2: you know phase diversity. It quite goes so well on
- 6:09Speaker 2: the bigger screen, bigger scale, and then all bets are
- 6:12Speaker 2: kind of off.
- 6:12Speaker 4: So I don't mind it in that form.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Because he's a young guy, you know, being twenty two
- 6:17Speaker 2: in a World champions is a very special thing. It's
- 6:18Speaker 2: only been a handful of other guys of that age
- 6:20Speaker 2: that have ever been world champis that is a special thing. However,
- 6:25Speaker 2: with that being said, I need to talk to the corner.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Why is your guy who was heavily favored in at home,
- 6:32Speaker 2: why is he looking like this the first half of
- 6:33Speaker 2: the fight when the fights he's rumored for going forward,
- 6:38Speaker 2: he can't come out like this, can't like that's not
- 6:41Speaker 2: gonna work. So my thing is this, what was the
- 6:44Speaker 2: game plan is it? Did they chill because there find
- 6:48Speaker 2: a replacement guy from the crib.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Like I need to.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I'm very curious on what was going on because a
- 6:55Speaker 2: guy that good should not look that bad versus then
- 6:58Speaker 2: Albert Bell no offense at all. Alabella fought hell of fight.
- 7:01Speaker 2: He'll probably had a few more fights based off this
- 7:03Speaker 2: performance alone. However, like you mentioned, he's in his thirties,
- 7:07Speaker 2: you know, and it's gonna be with Tonba. He's not
- 7:09Speaker 2: gonna have no tenure more year of this. He's gonna
- 7:12Speaker 2: have a few more fights, make a little bit of bucks,
- 7:14Speaker 2: and that's gonna be it.
- 7:16Speaker 4: So what the hell happened to the first half of
- 7:17Speaker 4: the fight.
- 7:18Speaker 2: That'd be my biggest concern because he was not prepared
- 7:21Speaker 2: and he did not look interested, and neither of those
- 7:24Speaker 2: things are good and that can't happen if the rumors
- 7:27Speaker 2: are some of the guys he's thinking about fighting or
- 7:29Speaker 2: you're talk on him fighting.
- 7:30Speaker 4: That ain't gonna work with some guys.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Absolutely, and you know, I think he did a great job.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Abdula Mason did a great job, you know, attacking the
- 7:38Speaker 3: body in the second half of the of the fight.
- 7:41Speaker 3: The announcers were also kind of saying, like, this is
- 7:43Speaker 3: what you needed to be doing. Albert Bell's taller had
- 7:46Speaker 3: more reach. But also, yeah, they did say that at
- 7:48Speaker 3: thirty three, this is Albert Bell's first title shot so ever,
- 7:52Speaker 3: so yeah, it could also be. You know, I'm not
- 7:55Speaker 3: a professional. This is a question that I would have
- 7:57Speaker 3: if and when we interview another professional fighter. But you know,
- 8:01Speaker 3: how much time do you need to study a fighter
- 8:03Speaker 3: to really get an idea of what your game plan
- 8:06Speaker 3: is going to be? You know, I think they switched
- 8:07Speaker 3: that Rebell out the week before or something like that.
- 8:10Speaker 3: I don't know, does it do you need a couple
- 8:12Speaker 3: of weeks you need a month to study? I mean,
- 8:14Speaker 3: looking at tape, I don't know.
- 8:15Speaker 2: So looking at how easily Albert wore down, I don't
- 8:21Speaker 2: think you need that much time. I think it's one
- 8:23Speaker 2: of those things where you're a fire like Abdula Mason,
- 8:26Speaker 2: you should be, you should be a superior fighter. So
- 8:29Speaker 2: there's certain things that you should already have that should
- 8:32Speaker 2: be an issue out there friends and they know each
- 8:34Speaker 2: other for a long time. That's a whole different conversation.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Then that's that's a little bit different. With that being said, though,
- 8:42Speaker 2: still should be superior. Still shouldn't matter. We're facing at
- 8:45Speaker 2: like that that's not really ranked and no one they
- 8:46Speaker 2: were heard of. That shouldn't be a thing like that
- 8:49Speaker 2: shouldn't be No why you know, there shouldn't be an issue.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Put it that way, There shouldn't be an issue. You
- 8:54Speaker 2: should take care of business relatively easily.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Yeah, and they did say that the two our friends
- 9:01Speaker 3: and their buddies, they've sparred before. But yeah, no, that's
- 9:04Speaker 3: that's a really good point. I mean, at the end
- 9:05Speaker 3: of the day, your if your skills are where Abdulla
- 9:08Speaker 3: Masons are and will continue will continue to grow as such. Yeah,
- 9:13Speaker 3: this probably shouldn't been as hard of a fight. I
- 9:15Speaker 3: say that never having stepped in the ring myself. So
- 9:17Speaker 3: you know, I always make it clear that you know
- 9:19Speaker 3: I'm not the one in there getting my ass kicked.
- 9:21Speaker 3: But but no, I mean, definitely a lot of respect.
- 9:24Speaker 3: I did kind of expect a little bit of what
- 9:28Speaker 3: happened was that Albert Belt came out strong. But again,
- 9:31Speaker 3: you know, being over thirty, he was gonna cast out yep,
- 9:35Speaker 3: And I did expect an Abdullah knockout. I'm surprised it
- 9:39Speaker 3: took till round twelve. I gotta be honest. We were
- 9:42Speaker 3: in the group chat and I was saying, this could
- 9:44Speaker 3: be a draw, and I'm gonna be pissed if that's
- 9:46Speaker 3: a draw.
- 9:47Speaker 2: It was leaning that way until like round eleven, like, oh,
- 9:50Speaker 2: you know he has nothing left. Well, the punchs that
- 9:53Speaker 2: had nothing on them, he wasn't moving. I was like, oh,
- 9:55Speaker 2: this is like this is you know, it's not looking good.
- 9:59Speaker 2: But he almost made it. He almost made it, and
- 10:02Speaker 2: he could argument that the stoppage was a big conversial. However,
- 10:07Speaker 2: it felt like the stoppage was coming one way or another.
- 10:10Speaker 2: It felt like the stopping was inevitable, whether it was
- 10:13Speaker 2: in or ten seconds later or fifteen seconds later, it
- 10:15Speaker 2: was a matter of time.
- 10:16Speaker 4: So it was what it was.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I don't think it was an egregious stoppage, but when
- 10:21Speaker 2: you could tell when a guy has nothing left, so
- 10:23Speaker 2: protect the guy, let him get a few other fights
- 10:26Speaker 2: out there for you know, let him get some more
- 10:28Speaker 2: money later this year.
- 10:30Speaker 4: I don't mind it at all.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, And yeah, I also agreed that the stoppage
- 10:34Speaker 3: wasn't like ridiculous or anything. And in a situation like that,
- 10:38Speaker 3: it's probably better to be safe than sorry, because yes,
- 10:40Speaker 3: a stoppage would have come ten fifteen seconds later, but
- 10:43Speaker 3: that could have been really bad for Albert Bell. So
- 10:47Speaker 3: I was cool with it.
- 10:48Speaker 4: You know.
- 10:49Speaker 3: The fight in itself was very exciting. And yeah, I
- 10:52Speaker 3: still don't think that I don't know Mason is overrated
- 10:56Speaker 3: or that you know, he doesn't have it or anything.
- 10:58Speaker 3: He just faced him adversity and that happened, and that's okay.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I purposefully didn't look at any of the guy damn
- 11:04Speaker 3: Instagram comments, which is the thing I've complained about the most.
- 11:07Speaker 3: But I'm sure there's people saying like, oh, this guy
- 11:09Speaker 3: couldn't even knock out a nobody, yeah blah blah blah.
- 11:12Speaker 3: But no he did though, so technically sure, sure, absolutely,
- 11:17Speaker 3: I'm just say kind of the idea. I guess here,
- 11:20Speaker 3: what I'm saying, is that the expectation for boxers, you know,
- 11:23Speaker 3: it's can be honestly a little unfair from fans that
- 11:26Speaker 3: you know, because he didn't he didn't get a first
- 11:28Speaker 3: round knockout t KO that you know, he's not good
- 11:31Speaker 3: enough for any of that stuff. We've seen it a
- 11:33Speaker 3: million times. But I think that's you know a lot
- 11:36Speaker 3: of that is ridiculous. But no really entertaining fight. The
- 11:40Speaker 3: ones before that, the Shushi Carington one less entertaining, very technical,
- 11:44Speaker 3: very good, but you know not as you know, the
- 11:47Speaker 3: announcers made a really good point, you know that they
- 11:49Speaker 3: were they weren't seeing any fireworks in the previous fights,
- 11:52Speaker 3: and July fourth, that's what people wanted to see. Uh
- 11:56Speaker 3: And in that sense, yeah, the main event delivered, I believe.
- 11:59Speaker 2: So I was saying the last two years, like if
- 12:03Speaker 2: you have boxing on people, if you have good fights
- 12:05Speaker 2: on people, watch on fourth July, Like people will find
- 12:08Speaker 2: way to watch it, won't.
- 12:10Speaker 3: It never fails, right exactly? And uh yeah, I decided
- 12:15Speaker 3: I actually didn't go out at all. I was solo
- 12:17Speaker 3: all weekend, so I just decided to make some food,
- 12:20Speaker 3: drink at home, turn on the TV and had a
- 12:22Speaker 3: great time, just very very chill, relaxing. And yeah, definitely
- 12:27Speaker 3: props to TNT. You know, so far, so good on
- 12:30Speaker 3: their production. Like you said, very cool to see Sean
- 12:34Speaker 3: Porter and Bud Crawford doing commentary friend of the show
- 12:38Speaker 3: Sean Porter another thing. Yeah, turn on the TV and still, man,
- 12:42Speaker 3: it can't get over and I see him. I'm like,
- 12:44Speaker 3: I talked to that guy. I asked him questions. It's
- 12:47Speaker 3: coolest shit. It just has that the experience, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 3: seeing that hasn't faded for me personally. But yeah, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 3: I'm still excited to see what what Abdulla Mason has
- 12:59Speaker 3: coming up now and to watch his next fight and
- 13:02Speaker 3: to see him grow at twenty two. I mean, that's
- 13:05Speaker 3: it's nothing like you want to talk about ten years
- 13:07Speaker 3: in the ring. He's definitely could have that as long
- 13:11Speaker 3: as he keeps his shit together, you know, you know,
- 13:13Speaker 3: keeps stays out of trouble outside the ring, as you
- 13:16Speaker 3: know we've talked about many times. But yeah, props to
- 13:20Speaker 3: to TNT for putting that on. And and also don't
- 13:24Speaker 3: forget everybody this TNT events. They're a monthly event. So
- 13:31Speaker 3: the one, the next one coming up is Lamont Roach
- 13:33Speaker 3: versus Williams depend on August first, and I'm already stoked.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yep.
- 13:36Speaker 4: So same.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Another thing we have to talk about that night. The
- 13:41Speaker 3: elephant in the room is the whole open scoring controversy.
- 13:47Speaker 3: So just to give a little background to people who
- 13:49Speaker 3: might not maybe didn't see the previous fight, the WBC,
- 13:53Speaker 3: they announced the official judges scorecards during the fight. Yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 3: that hardly ever happens. I believe they said that happens
- 14:03Speaker 3: in the amateurs, but it's happened.
- 14:06Speaker 2: In profiles before. There's been a several other fights I
- 14:08Speaker 2: remember happening. I've never been a fan of it though.
- 14:11Speaker 2: It's just not boxing. That's not boxing, Like, that's not
- 14:15Speaker 2: the boxing we know. That's not It's not good because
- 14:18Speaker 2: it impacts the fighters a lot.
- 14:21Speaker 4: It's just it's just not good. It's not good. There's
- 14:23Speaker 4: no benefit for my opinion.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Well, and I want to get your take on specifically
- 14:27Speaker 3: what a couple of the announcers says. So both Sean
- 14:29Speaker 3: Porter and Tim Bradley were there, and they said that
- 14:32Speaker 3: it in their minds, it could benefit the fighter because
- 14:35Speaker 3: they can adjust based on where they are in the fight.
- 14:37Speaker 3: I don't know that I agree, but I just wanted
- 14:39Speaker 3: to get your take on that.
- 14:41Speaker 4: So that's part of it. You definitely can adjust. I
- 14:44Speaker 4: do understand that process.
- 14:45Speaker 2: My old thing is it keeps you unfocused because now
- 14:50Speaker 2: you're thinking about what the scorecard is instead of just boxing,
- 14:53Speaker 2: and I think that can impact how you box, instead
- 14:56Speaker 2: of just going straight and forward and boxing and letting
- 14:58Speaker 2: the cars let why are they may? I think focusing
- 15:01Speaker 2: on the score, trying to score, you know, try to
- 15:04Speaker 2: win around when you don't know, you know, it's just
- 15:06Speaker 2: a lot of It's another thing to think about the
- 15:08Speaker 2: boxing that you shouldn't. In my opinion, I think that
- 15:11Speaker 2: let the score and be the scoring. But we don't
- 15:13Speaker 2: need to hear every round or every fourth round or whatever.
- 15:16Speaker 2: We don't need that.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd actually thought about it a lot. I've been
- 15:21Speaker 3: thinking about a lot over the weekend because I don't
- 15:24Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say I have a really strong opinion
- 15:26Speaker 3: on it either way, but I definitely had some thoughts, like,
- 15:29Speaker 3: for example, Tim Bradley kept hitting the fact that every
- 15:32Speaker 3: other sport has it, every other sport, you know what
- 15:34Speaker 3: the score is, Yeah, but boxing is not like any
- 15:36Speaker 3: other sport. I'm sorry, right, I get there. You can't
- 15:39Speaker 3: compare it for so many reasons. You know, there's no timeout,
- 15:42Speaker 3: so there's no hydration breaks like Zucker had, There's no halftime.
- 15:47Speaker 3: You know, I'm okay with boxing being different from any
- 15:50Speaker 3: other sport. That's why we love it. And they also
- 15:54Speaker 3: kept bringing up the Bud Crawford versus Sean Porter fight.
- 15:59Speaker 3: If any of you all remember, there was an awesome
- 16:02Speaker 3: moment where Bud Crawford was told by his corner, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 3: Sean Porter is up on the score cards. Nobody knew
- 16:07Speaker 3: that for sure. It was just kind of the corner
- 16:10Speaker 3: guessing and Bud Crafford goes, oh, he's up all right,
- 16:13Speaker 3: bet and cooked and niggering kicked Sewan Porter's ass. And
- 16:17Speaker 3: people were saying Tim Bradleys say, well, what if if
- 16:20Speaker 3: Bud Crawford didn't think he was down on the score cards,
- 16:23Speaker 3: he wouldn't have put on the gas. It's Bud Crawford, man,
- 16:26Speaker 3: he was going to put on the fucking gas. I'm sorry, Like,
- 16:28Speaker 3: that's that's not a reason to use open scoring. So
- 16:34Speaker 3: I kind of felt that those situations there, how about this,
- 16:37Speaker 3: those two reasons of all the sports do it, and
- 16:40Speaker 3: you can turn up the hit the pedal to the
- 16:42Speaker 3: medal not good enough reasons to start using it. Honestly,
- 16:47Speaker 3: in my opinion.
- 16:48Speaker 4: I agree, I agree.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Yeah, one thing I think we can all agree on.
- 16:52Speaker 3: There is no goddamn reason why Jimmy Lennon the announcer
- 16:56Speaker 3: should have actually announced the scores in the middle of
- 16:59Speaker 3: a round. That's ridiculous.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Yea cool.
- 17:04Speaker 3: You want to talk about people not being focused on boxing.
- 17:07Speaker 3: That shit. So if for those of you who didn't
- 17:09Speaker 3: see the fight at the beginning or I don't even remember,
- 17:12Speaker 3: maybe like round four or something, they put the official
- 17:15Speaker 3: score cards on the screen, Jimmy Lennon the announcer was
- 17:18Speaker 3: going to say something, the mic didn't work, whatever it
- 17:21Speaker 3: is didn't happen. Then later he did pop up and said,
- 17:24Speaker 3: ladies and gentlemen, as of now, the judges scorecards are
- 17:27Speaker 3: blah blah blah. That's bullshit, Like it's right when the
- 17:32Speaker 3: guys were throwing punches, like you shouldn't be distracted by anything.
- 17:36Speaker 3: The only thing they should stop the around is like
- 17:39Speaker 3: head butts, you know, the typical things like mouthpiece and
- 17:43Speaker 3: it all should come from the ref by the way,
- 17:44Speaker 3: not the damn announcer. That's right, unless I don't know.
- 17:48Speaker 3: They say there's a bomb in the building, then yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 3: go ahead, that's different.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Yeah, So that was ridiculous. I think the announcers were
- 17:56Speaker 3: all pretty much on board with that. I mean, there's
- 18:00Speaker 3: you you have a whole minute in between if you
- 18:02Speaker 3: really really want to do it, you have sixty seconds
- 18:05Speaker 3: in between rounds to announce that.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, But.
- 18:10Speaker 3: I at the end of the day, I'm gonna say
- 18:13Speaker 3: I would prefer it if open scoring wasn't a thing.
- 18:18Speaker 2: It's not necessary, we don't need it. We've gone there's
- 18:20Speaker 2: been too many fights without it to not mattering.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Yeah. And and really another thing too, that's as a viewer,
- 18:27Speaker 3: I think it's pretty cool to not know and you know,
- 18:30Speaker 3: have that sense of surprise at the end of it.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Another thing that.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Was being robbed.
- 18:34Speaker 2: That's not good either, right. A guy is fighting his
- 18:37Speaker 2: ass off and he should be up, he's not. That's
- 18:39Speaker 2: never good either, right. Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 3: And you know they were talking about transparency in the
- 18:45Speaker 3: box and judging, but like, if somebody is judging poorly,
- 18:49Speaker 3: putting their scorecards out there isn't gonna make a difference,
- 18:52Speaker 3: you know what I mean, they're still gonna it's It's
- 18:55Speaker 3: not like a judge is going to be shamed midway
- 18:58Speaker 3: through for you know, giving rounds to somebody that shouldn't
- 19:02Speaker 3: have won them or whatever it is. You know, the
- 19:05Speaker 3: game is the game. They're gonna do what they're gonna do. Yeah,
- 19:10Speaker 3: so uh yeah, so far, I've not seen a real
- 19:13Speaker 3: compelling reason to do it. If if the WBC decides
- 19:18Speaker 3: to continue this, and if they announce it in between rounds,
- 19:23Speaker 3: I'm also not going to be up in arms. I'm
- 19:25Speaker 3: not going to be like, oh, this is bullshit every
- 19:27Speaker 3: every week on the show. I'm not going to be
- 19:29Speaker 3: complaining about it. I just think there's no real reason
- 19:32Speaker 3: for it. But that makes sense. But yeah, but I
- 19:37Speaker 3: don't know, I mean, I for now, if for those
- 19:41Speaker 3: of who don't know, there's different boxing commissions, WBO, WBC,
- 19:44Speaker 3: et cetera. Right now, it's only the WBC that's trying this,
- 19:48Speaker 3: and uh, there's now with several reasons why I've you know,
- 19:52Speaker 3: been really annoyed with the WBC specifically over the years,
- 19:57Speaker 3: and they're just you're you're not helping man, You're not
- 20:00Speaker 3: making you're not making a case for yourself WBC with
- 20:04Speaker 3: this ship. Yeah, but but yeah, like I said, next month,
- 20:10Speaker 3: August first is the the Lamann Motions versus Williams of
- 20:15Speaker 3: Pether fight. We already talked about it in the previous episode,
- 20:17Speaker 3: but at that time I didn't realize it was another
- 20:20Speaker 3: TNT production. Yeah, so I don't know how long the
- 20:24Speaker 3: contract is for TNT and de Zone to air on
- 20:26Speaker 3: regular TV, but honestly, I gotta say, it hasn't been
- 20:31Speaker 3: that long that we've gone without boxing on regular live,
- 20:34Speaker 3: linear television. But it already felt like a breath of
- 20:38Speaker 3: fresh air as far as.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I'm so professional, right, it felt like a standard sporting
- 20:42Speaker 2: event with real money behind it, like real real ship
- 20:46Speaker 2: behind it.
- 20:47Speaker 4: It was refreshing to see one.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Hundred percent, and it's of course it was still streaming
- 20:52Speaker 3: on the Zones app. But I don't see any reason
- 20:56Speaker 3: why they can't do more events like this. Doesn't have
- 20:59Speaker 3: to be every single week and doesn't have to be
- 21:01Speaker 3: every single fight. But let's be real, We've talked about
- 21:03Speaker 3: this before. Not every fight is a paper Vega fight, true, true, Yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 3: there are no disrespect to you know, like Abdula Mason,
- 21:13Speaker 3: who is a great fighter and the star. But I
- 21:15Speaker 3: don't think it takes away from him, you know, being
- 21:18Speaker 3: on ESPN for free, being on TNT for free, and well.
- 21:23Speaker 4: There's things though.
- 21:24Speaker 2: You gotta realize it. Tn T is just as big
- 21:26Speaker 2: as any other. It's just as big as me. When
- 21:29Speaker 2: it comes like a cable situation. Tn T is on Hotel, TVs,
- 21:34Speaker 2: bar TVs. Everybody got tn T. So some go on
- 21:37Speaker 2: TNT and you need to watch it. If you're on
- 21:39Speaker 2: a plane, you go watch it. It's a it's a
- 21:41Speaker 2: big deal, like it's a it's a breath of fresh
- 21:43Speaker 2: air that the TNT is showing boxing.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Agreed. I hope it continues. And like I said, I
- 21:49Speaker 3: had stayed in h Saturday night, and I intended to anyway.
- 21:52Speaker 3: But it's cool knowing that if I wanted to go out,
- 21:55Speaker 3: I could find a dive bar and if they had
- 21:57Speaker 3: a couple of TVs. If I don't think there was
- 21:59Speaker 3: any other mad Your event Saturday night, but I could
- 22:02Speaker 3: have asked the bartender, Hey, can you change the channel
- 22:04Speaker 3: on this TV so I can watch boxing? And I know,
- 22:07Speaker 3: I know for a fact a lot of places that
- 22:09Speaker 3: I go to would do that for me because they've
- 22:11Speaker 3: done it before. Yeah, when when Top Rank was on ESPN,
- 22:14Speaker 3: so right, now this is to I'll speak for myself personally,
- 22:20Speaker 3: and you know what what I like and what my
- 22:22Speaker 3: experience are. This is the best thing that could happen
- 22:24Speaker 3: to boxing this year, is yeah, So please y'all if
- 22:30Speaker 3: you can get get boxing back on regular TV whatever
- 22:34Speaker 3: hell should you get back on HBO even stuff like that.
- 22:38Speaker 4: That that that ship is sailed. I know, I know,
- 22:41Speaker 4: I know, yeah, that ship is saled. So some time
- 22:44Speaker 4: everything else.
- 22:45Speaker 2: The key is this T and T is good because
- 22:49Speaker 2: there you're not fighting with anything else.
- 22:51Speaker 4: They don't have any other like a live stuff going
- 22:53Speaker 4: on right now.
- 22:54Speaker 2: They have like college football, they have college sports and whatnot,
- 22:58Speaker 2: but right now, see in the evening they have boxing.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Like they can market way differently. They can create their
- 23:06Speaker 2: own promos. The thing with boxing that's unique is you
- 23:10Speaker 2: have to sell the fight. You got to sell fighters.
- 23:14Speaker 2: TNT has the budget, the means, and the network to
- 23:18Speaker 2: actually do that. So even though this fight went well,
- 23:20Speaker 2: going forward, you probably see more promo, You probably see
- 23:23Speaker 2: more production behind the scenes and pre fight and next
- 23:28Speaker 2: fight they are a promo. They're already public other fights
- 23:31Speaker 2: that are gonna happen this month and August, so that's
- 23:34Speaker 2: where it's like, you know what forge everybody else like,
- 23:36Speaker 2: if they don't want to be involved, they don't be involved.
- 23:38Speaker 2: If TNT is taking the initiative to do this, TNT
- 23:41Speaker 2: does very good work with sports, very very good work.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Like I was thoroughly impressed for it being their first gig,
- 23:47Speaker 2: like that was very impressed.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and also, yeah, you made a good point about
- 23:50Speaker 3: promoting upcoming fights. They weren't just promoting next month's TNT event.
- 23:54Speaker 3: They're promoting all the other stuff on his own exactly.
- 23:57Speaker 3: So you kind of get people, you know, hopping back
- 23:59Speaker 3: and forth from both both the app and the TV.
- 24:01Speaker 3: I think that's cool. So yeah, as our I got
- 24:05Speaker 3: to quote our our producer Jabari Davis because I don't
- 24:07Speaker 3: want to take credit for this one, but he said,
- 24:08Speaker 3: you know, shout out to the Shah Shank Redemption Network
- 24:11Speaker 3: because that was that should I remember that you're just
- 24:14Speaker 3: being on all that time on d n T, so
- 24:18Speaker 3: that never what.
- 24:20Speaker 4: You call the The New York Cop Show.
- 24:24Speaker 2: For years on it as for you as Yeah, yep, yep, yeah, I've.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Actually never watched any like TNT original programming. I know
- 24:34Speaker 3: they had their own shows like every cable channel did.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I've never really had any experience with it, but man,
- 24:39Speaker 3: I never thought i'd say this in twenty twenty six,
- 24:41Speaker 3: but shout out to tn T. You guys are awesome.
- 24:43Speaker 4: I love y'all.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Keep doing what you're doing.
- 24:45Speaker 4: No, definitely, well.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Those are the main things we wanted to go over
- 24:49Speaker 3: in this little shorty episode. But man, July is still
- 24:53Speaker 3: just getting started, and you know, we're gonna be the
- 24:55Speaker 3: mid Company podcast is gonna be with you through a
- 24:57Speaker 3: lot of these upcoming fights. So not everything is like
- 25:02Speaker 3: I wouldn't say that I'm super personally excited, but there
- 25:04Speaker 3: are some fights coming up with names. You know, Anthony
- 25:07Speaker 3: Joshua is going to be fighting it in July. Tyson
- 25:10Speaker 3: Fury just quietly put himself on the schedule in July
- 25:13Speaker 3: as well. I just noticed that before we got on
- 25:15Speaker 3: the air. Ero Spence is coming back, Richardson Hitchins, Edgar Burlega.
- 25:21Speaker 3: If you're Puerto Rican and for no other reason, I've.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Never seen dude like being impressed in the ring. I'm sorry,
- 25:29Speaker 2: I've never seen it. I've never seen I've done against
- 25:32Speaker 2: dude like I've done against dude. I'm not I don't
- 25:34Speaker 2: really care like that. I've just I've never been impressed
- 25:37Speaker 2: with him. But like you said, he's Puerto Rican, He's
- 25:40Speaker 2: fights on the East Coast a lot. It's about money.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I get it, I get it.
- 25:45Speaker 3: I agree, I don't. I also don't dislike him or
- 25:47Speaker 3: have anything against them. But you know what I got
- 25:49Speaker 3: to tell you, I'll speak for myself personally. I want
- 25:51Speaker 3: to speak for you or the show. I love Shitty
- 25:52Speaker 3: go Edgar Berlega. It's kind of really fun anyway, Jamison.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Where can people find you? On social media?
