- 0:32Speaker 4: going to be hot Monday afternoon out there for you.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Today we go straight from the seventies into the nineties,
- 0:37Speaker 4: I think, low nineties and sunny day is what's in
- 0:41Speaker 4: head forsd today and for a lot of this week.
- 0:43Speaker 4: I need to check catch up on the weather, but
- 0:45Speaker 4: it looks like we're gonna have a good weather week
- 0:47Speaker 4: here in the Kanal Valley. So that's a good thing
- 0:49Speaker 4: is things are getting started and things are starting to
- 0:51Speaker 4: crank up around the Kanal Valley with events and things
- 0:53Speaker 4: like that that's coming on. We will have plenty of
- 0:56Speaker 4: things to do and to talk about during the course
- 0:58Speaker 4: of this week. Dave Allan, of course, is off all
- 1:00Speaker 4: week this week, and I'll be filling in for the
- 1:03Speaker 4: first two days, so I'll be here today and tomorrow
- 1:06Speaker 4: and then we will have Natalie Tennant is going to
- 1:10Speaker 4: be guest hosting on Wednesday, and then Andrew Donaldson from
- 1:13Speaker 4: The Hotel Show and West Virginia Watch will be guest
- 1:17Speaker 4: hosting on Thursday and Friday. So we'll have some guest
- 1:19Speaker 4: hosts in here this week to fill in for Dave
- 1:22Speaker 4: and I'll be here as well, and still the same
- 1:24Speaker 4: show that you can tune into for all of the
- 1:27Speaker 4: local happenings and things that are going on. One of
- 1:29Speaker 4: the things we wanted to kick off right away, and
- 1:32Speaker 4: we'll get to some other local happenings, but I wanted
- 1:34Speaker 4: to do a little bit of a sports report. I'm
- 1:36Speaker 4: going to bring Greg Carry onto the line now. Greg
- 1:38Speaker 4: Carry from Metro News was following the West Virginia baseball
- 1:42Speaker 4: team all weekend. I checked in with him a couple
- 1:43Speaker 4: times last week on hotline to get kind of a
- 1:47Speaker 4: preview of this weekend's festivities. West Virginia won two of
- 1:51Speaker 4: three games against TCUU this weekend. We didn't quite get
- 1:55Speaker 4: far enough, Greg. Good morning, Greg, thanks for joining me.
- 1:57Speaker 2: By the way, Good morning, how you doing.
- 1:59Speaker 4: I'm doing well, Thanks for joining me early. Really appreciate
- 2:01Speaker 4: your time. When this Monday morning and westerning I had
- 2:04Speaker 4: a good weekend. They won two out of three games
- 2:06Speaker 4: against TCU. They won the series, but not quite enough
- 2:08Speaker 4: to get a share of the Big twelve regular season title.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, well said and accurate.
- 2:13Speaker 5: I think you know, ultimately you got out of this
- 2:16Speaker 5: series what you needed to get out of it, which
- 2:18Speaker 5: was a series win. You beat another quality opponent and
- 2:21Speaker 5: a TCU team that is right there on the bubble,
- 2:25Speaker 5: right on the cusp of you know, either being in
- 2:27Speaker 5: or just out of the NCAA tournament. And we'll find
- 2:29Speaker 5: that out you're a week from today. But you know,
- 2:32Speaker 5: it wasn't enough to win the Big Twelve. Kansas clinched
- 2:36Speaker 5: that with the Game two victory late Friday night in
- 2:40Speaker 5: Provo against BYU. So going into Saturday, West Virginia was
- 2:44Speaker 5: aware that it could not no longer be the number
- 2:47Speaker 5: one seed or a Big Twelve champion at number one
- 2:49Speaker 5: seed in the Big twelve tournament that is, and they
- 2:52Speaker 5: still battled back from a late four to three deficit.
- 2:54Speaker 5: They end up pulling out a six or victory in
- 2:57Speaker 5: that Saturday series finale, and that's a very critical result
- 3:00Speaker 5: that sends West Virginia into the Big Twelve tournament this
- 3:03Speaker 5: week as a number two seed, and ironically enough, there
- 3:07Speaker 5: looks to be a decent chance that they will play
- 3:09Speaker 5: TCU again.
- 3:11Speaker 4: So that with the play in game where TCU seeded
- 3:14Speaker 4: Wes Virginia is off until Thursday. So if TCU pulls
- 3:16Speaker 4: out on their series, that would be who Wesvirginia faces.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Yeah, So Tuesday will be the opening games of the
- 3:22Speaker 5: Big Twelve tournament with two of them, and the winner
- 3:24Speaker 5: of Kansas State in Utah on Tuesday will then play
- 3:28Speaker 5: TCU Wednesday, So either Kansas State or Utah will be
- 3:31Speaker 5: facing TCU Wednesday. The winner of that game will then
- 3:34Speaker 5: draw West Virginia on Thursday at seven thirty pm Eastern times.
- 3:38Speaker 5: So certainly, you know, a decent opportunity here for these
- 3:41Speaker 5: two teams to meet again. It will just take one
- 3:44Speaker 5: TCU win for that to happen.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And we know that.
- 3:47Speaker 5: TCUs a capable club. They showed it this weekend. They
- 3:50Speaker 5: were right there with West Virginia obviously won the second
- 3:53Speaker 5: game of the series, had a late lead in the
- 3:55Speaker 5: third game of the series. They were the preseason Big
- 3:58Speaker 5: Twelve favorites, so that you know is talented. They were
- 4:02Speaker 5: injured for a good portion of this season, and they're
- 4:04Speaker 5: better play in the second half of the season seem
- 4:07Speaker 5: to reflect the fact that they got a lot of
- 4:09Speaker 5: those guys back, several name, you know, big name pitchers
- 4:12Speaker 5: that came back into their rotation, and they're playing good
- 4:14Speaker 5: baseball because they're a healthier team right now and they've
- 4:17Speaker 5: got close to a full complement of players.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Let's talk to just a little bit about folks that
- 4:20Speaker 4: maybe are not used to how the tournament works, to
- 4:23Speaker 4: seed into the larger College World Series tournament, how this
- 4:27Speaker 4: what's westerting has hope on how this would play out
- 4:31Speaker 4: and some of the options that would Obviously, you want
- 4:32Speaker 4: to win the tournament if you can. If Wes Virginia
- 4:35Speaker 4: wins a game or so in the tournament, but it
- 4:38Speaker 4: doesn't quite win it, where does their path fall on
- 4:40Speaker 4: this thing? Do they have an opportunity to host some
- 4:42Speaker 4: games going into the next round of the national playoffs?
- 4:45Speaker 4: They're going to be a relatively hot seed probably regardless.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Right yeah, yeah, I think right now as it stands today,
- 4:51Speaker 5: West Virginia can make a strong case that they would
- 4:54Speaker 5: be one of the sixteen host seeds. You know, you're
- 4:56Speaker 5: talking about basically four sixteen team brackets this point, or
- 5:01Speaker 5: rather sixteen fourteen brackets, I should say at this point,
- 5:03Speaker 5: and each of those you know brackets will have a host,
- 5:06Speaker 5: so sixteen overall hosts. You'll learn those on Sunday of
- 5:10Speaker 5: this upcoming week. They will actually be revealed a day
- 5:13Speaker 5: before the entire NCAA tournament field, which that will be
- 5:16Speaker 5: revealed on Monday during this selection show. But I do
- 5:19Speaker 5: think West Virginia is still in a position where they
- 5:21Speaker 5: have plenty to play for. I think they would sleep
- 5:23Speaker 5: a lot better going into Sunday if they were able
- 5:26Speaker 5: to win this first game of the Big twelve tournament
- 5:28Speaker 5: on Thursday. I'm never a big believer, you know, just
- 5:31Speaker 5: kind of like the bubble talk in the NCAA tournament.
- 5:34Speaker 5: I don't truly know that, you know, one game is
- 5:37Speaker 5: always the difference here of being in being out hosting
- 5:41Speaker 5: not hosting. But the fact that West Virginia won two
- 5:43Speaker 5: out of three against TCU this week, the fact that
- 5:45Speaker 5: they've won nine out of ten coming down the stretch.
- 5:48Speaker 5: They've got some quality victories, namely all three of those
- 5:50Speaker 5: wins at Big twelve winner in Kansas, and you've got
- 5:54Speaker 5: an opportunity for some more quality victories. Even if you
- 5:56Speaker 5: don't play TCU, wouldn't be as meaningful of a win
- 6:00Speaker 5: for your RPI and your metrics if you end up
- 6:02Speaker 5: playing Kansas State or Utah. But theoretically it's a game
- 6:05Speaker 5: that on paper you would probably give West Virginia a
- 6:07Speaker 5: better chance to win. I think ultimately we've also got
- 6:10Speaker 5: to depend on, you know, and see what happens ending
- 6:13Speaker 5: some other results around the country and teams that are
- 6:15Speaker 5: in a similar standing to West Virginia. But ultimately, if
- 6:18Speaker 5: West Virginia wins Thursday, I expect them to be hosting
- 6:22Speaker 5: to start the NCAA tournament. If they lose Thursday, I
- 6:25Speaker 5: think they're not going to sleep quite as well. Maybe
- 6:27Speaker 5: a fifty to fifty shot at best. But you know,
- 6:29Speaker 5: if this team plays into Saturday and plays for a
- 6:32Speaker 5: Big twelve championship, I see no way that they won't
- 6:35Speaker 5: host if they win it. Obviously, I think that they're
- 6:37Speaker 5: basically guaranteed to host at that point essentially, and I
- 6:40Speaker 5: do think that one more win would leave them on
- 6:43Speaker 5: the better side of fifty percent, especially if that win
- 6:46Speaker 5: happens to come against TCU, which would be another enhancement
- 6:48Speaker 5: to their postseason resume.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Absolutely amazing information this morning from Greg carry breaking it
- 6:52Speaker 4: all down if you're interested in that in West Virginia
- 6:54Speaker 4: baseball team, as I know that many many people are.
- 6:57Speaker 4: And that's one of the last things I want to
- 6:58Speaker 4: talk to you about, gregor wrap up the converce with this,
- 7:00Speaker 4: because one of the things that I'm a lifelong baseball fan,
- 7:03Speaker 4: so it's been it's been heartening to me to see
- 7:06Speaker 4: a lot of people that maybe were primary football baseball
- 7:09Speaker 4: or football basketball fans starting to get into the baseball conversation.
- 7:13Speaker 4: And one of the things that we're able to see
- 7:14Speaker 4: now and this has been a change to major League
- 7:16Speaker 4: baseball really within the last decade or so that I
- 7:18Speaker 4: think is really helping the West Virginia fans become related
- 7:21Speaker 4: to the team is suddenly, unlike before in college baseball,
- 7:25Speaker 4: if you got a guy that got drafted, it was
- 7:28Speaker 4: oftentimes a typical path to major league baseball. You toiled
- 7:31Speaker 4: around in at minor leagues for a while. You're a
- 7:33Speaker 4: little older, so maybe you got maybe you got a
- 7:36Speaker 4: little quicker, but still there was a three or four
- 7:38Speaker 4: year period in there before you got to the league.
- 7:40Speaker 4: The way that baseball's work now there's so much there's
- 7:43Speaker 4: so much capital put onto prospects, and these guys are
- 7:45Speaker 4: getting better faster. We see guys right away, especially with
- 7:48Speaker 4: the ascension of West Virginia's baseball program, we see guys
- 7:51Speaker 4: right away get to the league and make a difference.
- 7:53Speaker 4: We've seen Victor Scott's been with the Cardinals for a while,
- 7:56Speaker 4: he played well. Alex Manoa not doing so well now,
- 7:58Speaker 4: but he had a cup of coffee for a while,
- 8:00Speaker 4: was it a very effective pitcher. JJ Weatherholt this year
- 8:02Speaker 4: has had some of the biggest hits early season in
- 8:04Speaker 4: the Cardinals of any of their players. This really helps,
- 8:07Speaker 4: I think from a fan standpoint, because you can see
- 8:09Speaker 4: these guys just like we can in the in the NFL.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Absolutely, I think it's well said, and you know, particularly
- 8:15Speaker 5: in the case of Weatherholt, he was obviously an extremely
- 8:18Speaker 5: accomplished player, maybe you know, one of the better hitters,
- 8:20Speaker 5: without question, maybe the single best hitter to ever come
- 8:23Speaker 5: through West Virginia's baseball program, seventh overall draft pick.
- 8:27Speaker 2: You know, I was at P and C.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Parks a few weeks ago and got to speak to
- 8:30Speaker 5: Weatherholt before he played against the Pirates there in a
- 8:32Speaker 5: big series where he hit a couple of home runs
- 8:34Speaker 5: and the Cardinals swept that four game set at P
- 8:36Speaker 5: and C. But you know, he talked about how he
- 8:39Speaker 5: wasn't close to being pro ready when he came out
- 8:42Speaker 5: of high school. He was not a heralded recruit. He
- 8:44Speaker 5: needed to go through the college process. He needed to
- 8:46Speaker 5: see top tier Division one pitching, he needed to add strength,
- 8:50Speaker 5: he needed basically just you know, better fundamental understanding of
- 8:53Speaker 5: a swing and defensive positionings and certain things to come
- 8:56Speaker 5: with it. And it worked wonders for him. And you know,
- 8:58Speaker 5: you look at the success that he's in his rookie
- 9:00Speaker 5: season this year in the MLB, and it's been less
- 9:03Speaker 5: than two years since he was even drafted, and he's,
- 9:06Speaker 5: you know, certainly going to be one of the front runners,
- 9:08Speaker 5: if not the number one front runner for the National
- 9:10Speaker 5: League Rookie of the Year health permitting, it looks like
- 9:12Speaker 5: he's on track to certainly stay in that race to
- 9:14Speaker 5: this point.
- 9:15Speaker 2: And you're right.
- 9:16Speaker 5: And the other thing that it does is it certainly
- 9:18Speaker 5: helps in recruiting. You know, you take this kid from
- 9:20Speaker 5: the Pittsburgh area, like where JJ Weatherhold is from, and
- 9:23Speaker 5: there's plenty of baseball talent up there, that person that's
- 9:26Speaker 5: you know, these people and these kids in high school
- 9:28Speaker 5: and middle school are seeing the success that Weatherhold has,
- 9:31Speaker 5: seeing the success that West Virginia has as a large scale.
- 9:34Speaker 5: They're going to be in the NCAA Tournament for a
- 9:36Speaker 5: third straight season this year. Unquestionably, they've been in the
- 9:39Speaker 5: Super Regionals East of the last two years. They've won
- 9:41Speaker 5: a big twelve championship. They're regularly drawing twenty five hundred
- 9:45Speaker 5: people for home games. They play in a ballpark that's
- 9:49Speaker 5: barely over a decade old, so a lot of the
- 9:52Speaker 5: positive momentum for West Virginia's baseball program. They've invested into
- 9:55Speaker 5: the program. They've added scholarships, they've upgraded facilities, and it's
- 9:58Speaker 5: paying off in form of the results. They've really struck
- 10:01Speaker 5: gold in a lot of these transfers that they've added,
- 10:03Speaker 5: especially this year with their pitching staff, and it's really
- 10:06Speaker 5: it's been done by all parties. You know, it's a
- 10:08Speaker 5: credit goes to the top of the athletic department and
- 10:11Speaker 5: Ren Baker, and you know, even going back to Oliver Locke,
- 10:14Speaker 5: he was the reason that the baseball stadium was there
- 10:16Speaker 5: in the first place. But then the coaching transition when
- 10:18Speaker 5: Randy Mazy stepped away, we didn't really know what was
- 10:21Speaker 5: to come. And Steve Sabins has shown over these two
- 10:23Speaker 5: years that he is absolutely a rising star in this profession.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Yeah, that is so well said, and it's been such
- 10:30Speaker 4: an amazing thing to watch this assension. The last thing
- 10:32Speaker 4: that I wanted to bring up with that is simply
- 10:34Speaker 4: that westerging is when you look at how good this
- 10:35Speaker 4: team is now and you kind of look at their
- 10:37Speaker 4: top four or five guys. If you look at Gavin Kelly,
- 10:40Speaker 4: the catra slash halsefielder, such a utility guy and has
- 10:43Speaker 4: had a monster season, mix Yelle the great pitcher, of
- 10:46Speaker 4: course he's just a junior. Kelly is a sophomore Chance
- 10:49Speaker 4: and Cole the other one of their other great pitchers
- 10:51Speaker 4: is just a sophomore, Armani Guzman, who led the Big
- 10:53Speaker 4: twelve in stolen bases as a junior. There's a lot,
- 10:55Speaker 4: I mean, this is college sports now, but generally speaking,
- 10:58Speaker 4: looking at this team, there's a lot coming back even
- 11:00Speaker 4: for next year, and who knows when it comes to
- 11:02Speaker 4: the next level with some of these guys getting to
- 11:04Speaker 4: the league right.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Yeah, and now, pitcher like Max Yell is almost certainly
- 11:08Speaker 5: going to be a fairly high draft pick, you know, permitting,
- 11:12Speaker 5: I would expect there's a very good chance that you
- 11:14Speaker 5: won't see him in a West Virginia uniform. But you
- 11:16Speaker 5: mentioned the rest of the characters and the rest of that,
- 11:18Speaker 5: you know cast, a lot of those guys are going
- 11:20Speaker 5: to have to be back. Some of them, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 5: maybe often trained. You know, some of these guys maybe
- 11:24Speaker 5: transfer and go to a different program. I'm not sure
- 11:26Speaker 5: any of the ones that you named would, but obviously
- 11:29Speaker 5: there will be some.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Attrition on the roster.
- 11:30Speaker 5: But yeah, you're you're right, I mean, Gavin Kelly, you
- 11:33Speaker 5: don't have to be near the hitter that Gavin Kelly
- 11:35Speaker 5: is when you're a catching prospect to you know, make
- 11:37Speaker 5: it in professional baseball and get an opportunity at the
- 11:39Speaker 5: next level. Gavin Kelly is West Virginia's best hitter. He's
- 11:42Speaker 5: one of the better hitters.
- 11:43Speaker 2: In the Big Twelve.
- 11:44Speaker 5: You add to it the defensive versatility that he's able
- 11:47Speaker 5: to give you four or five games a week catching.
- 11:51Speaker 5: Can you know, just as easily slide out and play
- 11:53Speaker 5: middle infield spot there expecting base you know, it's it
- 11:56Speaker 5: certainly does a lot for his pro prospects. He's a
- 11:59Speaker 5: very season player for his age. I think it's easy
- 12:01Speaker 5: to forget when you watch him. He's only been playing
- 12:03Speaker 5: college baseball for two years. But that's a kid that
- 12:06Speaker 5: last season was starting at LSU in a super regional
- 12:09Speaker 5: and playing against top tier competition and you know, potential
- 12:13Speaker 5: first round draft picks that the Tigers had as they
- 12:15Speaker 5: went on to win the national championship, and he was
- 12:17Speaker 5: having success in doing it in front of twelve thousand
- 12:19Speaker 5: people there. So you know, those only really that only
- 12:22Speaker 5: really benefits you down the line and aide you. And
- 12:25Speaker 5: as a sophomore, we've seen him take that next step,
- 12:27Speaker 5: so it'll certainly be followed fun to follow the trajectory
- 12:30Speaker 5: of his career. But as we know, even if West
- 12:33Speaker 5: Virginia does lose some key players, which it's going to happen,
- 12:36Speaker 5: I mean, it's just been evitable, whether it be through
- 12:38Speaker 5: the transfer portal, through draft picks, through you know, other opportunities.
- 12:43Speaker 5: This is a team that has put together the ability
- 12:46Speaker 5: to go find kitchers for in particular at smaller lower
- 12:50Speaker 5: levels Division two levels. Even the Division three commit they
- 12:53Speaker 5: got last week from Marietta College has some pretty gaudy statistics.
- 12:56Speaker 5: But you go back to the last few years, it was
- 12:58Speaker 5: Derek Clark two years ago was the ace to the staff.
- 13:00Speaker 5: He was a Division two transfer. Last year it was
- 13:02Speaker 5: Griffin Kern, he was a Division two transfer. This year
- 13:05Speaker 5: you've had both Chance and Cole and Dawson Montesa pretty
- 13:08Speaker 5: regularly in the rotation. Cole has been a lot more
- 13:11Speaker 5: successful than Montesa, but Montesa's still been a serviceable piece
- 13:14Speaker 5: for West Virginia. And then adding Ian Corn and he's
- 13:16Speaker 5: been a long reliever with a couple starts, and he's
- 13:19Speaker 5: been as important as success as anybody on that pitching staff.
- 13:22Speaker 2: This year.
- 13:22Speaker 5: That's three Division two transfers, not to mention a wealth
- 13:25Speaker 5: of positional players that they've added from the Division IE
- 13:28Speaker 5: level that it's seamlessly fit into this team and made
- 13:30Speaker 5: the season what it's become, which has been pretty special
- 13:32Speaker 5: at this point.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Great information from Greg Carry from Mesher News breaking down
- 13:35Speaker 4: everything that's happened with Westeringia's baseball team. Second overall seed
- 13:38Speaker 4: into the Big Twelve tournament they're going to play on Thursday. Well,
- 13:42Speaker 4: we'll see how that shakes out once these early games
- 13:44Speaker 4: get over. West Virginia does have that double by there
- 13:47Speaker 4: being the number two overall seed, and we'll see how
- 13:49Speaker 4: the season plays out after that, going into the rest
- 13:51Speaker 4: of the postseason. Greg, thank you so much for being
- 13:53Speaker 4: with me early and breaking all that down with me.
- 13:55Speaker 4: That was great information. Thank you so much.
- 13:57Speaker 2: All Right, any Tom, talk to you soon.
- 13:59Speaker 6: All right.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Thanks Rag Carry from Metro News breaking down the West
- 14:01Speaker 4: Virginia baseball team. Now you know, now you know wondered
- 14:04Speaker 4: what happened this weekend and what was going to mean,
- 14:06Speaker 4: and now you absolutely know, delicate Hollis Lewis is going
- 14:09Speaker 4: to join me when we come back. There's been some
- 14:10Speaker 4: chatter this weekend, notice this online and also scanner traffic
- 14:14Speaker 4: with with teens and young folks playing with squirt guns
- 14:20Speaker 4: over on the West side. And I think this is
- 14:22Speaker 4: part of the team takeover thing that's happening around the country.
- 14:25Speaker 4: This isn't just in West Virginia, but they're using squirt
- 14:27Speaker 4: guns here. And there was some man some ambiguous calls
- 14:31Speaker 4: that were made into that were made in that came
- 14:34Speaker 4: over the scanner. Some parents on Facebook have some concerns
- 14:37Speaker 4: or not concerns. We're gonna look at the various issues
- 14:40Speaker 4: on that when we come back. You can send in

- 18:14Speaker 4: much for your time this morning.
- 18:16Speaker 10: Thank you for having me on.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Goot to talk to you, Coop.
- 18:18Speaker 6: Good to talk to you too, Holliston.
- 18:20Speaker 4: And one of the things I saw on Facebook some
- 18:22Speaker 4: some parents this weekend and uh, and it's something you
- 18:25Speaker 4: responded to as well. Some some friends of mine also
- 18:28Speaker 4: that have some family that lives over on the west
- 18:30Speaker 4: side of Charleston. I think that what we're that what
- 18:32Speaker 4: we're seeing in Charleston, I've seen, uh nationally, I've seen
- 18:36Speaker 4: this stuff going on with teen takeovers or youth takeovers
- 18:38Speaker 4: where they're flooding different zones with different different activities that
- 18:41Speaker 4: they're doing. I think that what seems to be happening
- 18:44Speaker 4: in our neighborhoods here in Charleston is there's kids that
- 18:47Speaker 4: are that are playing, but they're playing with with squirt guns,
- 18:51Speaker 4: which you know, sounds like so what they're playing with
- 18:54Speaker 4: squirt guns. But there's something a little concerning maybe about
- 18:57Speaker 4: what's going on here.
- 19:00Speaker 10: Yeah, I heard them referred to as splat guns and
- 19:04Speaker 10: what they are there again, there's a variety of the
- 19:07Speaker 10: different type of toys. Some of them actually resemble toys
- 19:10Speaker 10: and different things like that nature. Some of them shoot water,
- 19:13Speaker 10: otherm shoot like little like I guess, like water pellets
- 19:16Speaker 10: and different.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Things of that nature.
- 19:17Speaker 10: And some of them look more realistic and some of
- 19:20Speaker 10: them have been modified by the teams.
- 19:22Speaker 11: To look a little bit more real.
- 19:25Speaker 10: And I got a call from a constituent the other
- 19:27Speaker 10: day about kids, you know, riding in cars and shooting
- 19:31Speaker 10: like water guns and the s black guns that unsuspecting
- 19:34Speaker 10: individuals on the street, including a couple of kids, got
- 19:38Speaker 10: hit with some and also a high ranking federal officer
- 19:42Speaker 10: on the West side got hit with one of those
- 19:44Speaker 10: black guns. So I wanted just to make a post
- 19:47Speaker 10: to not again, not target anybody, not you know, be
- 19:51Speaker 10: overly moralistic about this or that, but just simply just
- 19:55Speaker 10: to pit parents on notice that you know kids are
- 19:59Speaker 10: doing this, talk to kids about doing this, to stay
- 20:01Speaker 10: within their zone the block, and also to let law
- 20:05Speaker 10: enforce to know, which they already knew, but just to
- 20:07Speaker 10: make sure they knew about what was going on. So
- 20:10Speaker 10: those toys are not mistaken for real weapons, and we don't,
- 20:15Speaker 10: you know, just want to avoid a tragic incident.
- 20:18Speaker 4: Yeah, And and I saw a lot of the give
- 20:21Speaker 4: and take on this, and there was a lot of
- 20:23Speaker 4: maybe parents around my age. I'm in my fifties. And
- 20:25Speaker 4: when I grew up in Cole River in Saint albans
- 20:28Speaker 4: I had I had a little creek that that was overgrown.
- 20:32Speaker 4: I kept a bunch of I kept a bunch of
- 20:34Speaker 4: military surplus in there because I was a goofy kid
- 20:37Speaker 4: that that thought Rambo was the coolest thing in the world.
- 20:39Speaker 4: I would go around dressed in camo with a giant
- 20:41Speaker 4: knife on my on my on my belt and a
- 20:44Speaker 4: realistic looking fake gun that I would carry around that
- 20:47Speaker 4: shot pellets or something out of it. Nobody gave me
- 20:51Speaker 4: two nods. Back in the day, this was in like,
- 20:53Speaker 4: you know, nineteen eighty three or something, you know, it was,
- 20:55Speaker 4: it was quite some time ago. That was pre callibine.
- 20:57Speaker 4: That was pre a lot of things that go on now,
- 20:59Speaker 4: and frankly pre open carry and concealed permitting things like that.
- 21:05Speaker 4: It's a little concerning if somebody's out there that's a
- 21:08Speaker 4: you know, maybe a little bit antsy, or it's dark out,
- 21:11Speaker 4: you're not really sure what the situation is going on.
- 21:13Speaker 4: It could it could relay itself into a potentially dangerous situation.
- 21:16Speaker 4: So we just want to be aware of what we're doing.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Kids are going to play, but we have to be
- 21:20Speaker 4: a little bit of a situational awareness of what's going on.
- 21:24Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 21:25Speaker 10: And we've seen these incidents turn these sort of incidents
- 21:28Speaker 10: turned tragic with like a Tamior Rice or Tavon Martin.
- 21:31Speaker 10: And also, you know, I've heard those sort of sentiments, well,
- 21:35Speaker 10: let kids be kids. Well, this isn't the eighties, this
- 21:37Speaker 10: isn't the nineties. This isn't those times where you know,
- 21:40Speaker 10: law enforcement and citizens are used to just seeing people
- 21:43Speaker 10: play out on the streets. Now, kids don't play out
- 21:47Speaker 10: on the street as much. So if you're not already
- 21:49Speaker 10: used to seeing kids congregating and just generally playing out
- 21:53Speaker 10: on the streets, and now you're seeing a group of
- 21:56Speaker 10: kids and they're shooting what you may miss idea if
- 22:00Speaker 10: I as a real weapons, that can be concerning not
- 22:03Speaker 10: onto law enforcement, as you mentioned, it can be concerning
- 22:06Speaker 10: to a constituent, excuse me, a citizen who does have
- 22:09Speaker 10: a you know, the right to open carry or concealed carries. Now,
- 22:13Speaker 10: so it just could potentially create a dangerous situation. So
- 22:18Speaker 10: I'm in part glad that the conversation got as big
- 22:21Speaker 10: as it did. Now most I would say, you know,
- 22:24Speaker 10: at least those individuals who are on social media, they
- 22:27Speaker 10: are aware of the situation. So I think that was
- 22:31Speaker 10: the most important thing that came.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Out of this.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree with you. It's not like this is
- 22:35Speaker 4: necessarily an emergency. I just wanted to do a public
- 22:37Speaker 4: peace on it just in case. Maybe you're driving around
- 22:39Speaker 4: and you see a bunch of kids and you're wondering
- 22:41Speaker 4: those what are they doing? Chances are you know, just
- 22:44Speaker 4: be aware that there's kids out doing these things. Some
- 22:47Speaker 4: of them might be shooting water at the cars and
- 22:49Speaker 4: things like that. That's not necessarily good, but just think
- 22:51Speaker 4: for a minute before you react, because whether it's technically
- 22:56Speaker 4: right or not, if it's just kids with water guns,
- 22:58Speaker 4: you need to be aware.
- 22:59Speaker 6: That's what it is, one hundred percent.
- 23:01Speaker 10: And in addition, we want to make sure that parents
- 23:03Speaker 10: are aware. You used to talk to their kids about like, hey,
- 23:06Speaker 10: if you're buying the toys, if you know your kids
- 23:08Speaker 10: already have them, just to make sure that they also,
- 23:11Speaker 10: like you said, have that situational awareness and you know,
- 23:14Speaker 10: make sure they're not modifying them and make sure they're
- 23:17Speaker 10: just playing with them as toys, and you know, setting
- 23:19Speaker 10: up some rules and regulations so they are safe while
- 23:22Speaker 10: they're in the street.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Yeah, that's that's all that I want to do, is
- 23:25Speaker 4: get a little bit of a piece out there to
- 23:26Speaker 4: make sure that folks were aware of this. Of course,
- 23:28Speaker 4: if there's any problems, contact local law enforcement, contact your
- 23:32Speaker 4: local rep. Whatever it might be. But just make sure
- 23:34Speaker 4: that we're treating the community appropriately, that we know that
- 23:37Speaker 4: they're kids that might be playing. Kids will do knuckleheaded
- 23:39Speaker 4: things sometimes you got to be aware of that every
- 23:41Speaker 4: once in a while that they're out there. But just
- 23:43Speaker 4: keep in mind, and also, parents, we're not living when
- 23:46Speaker 4: you grew up. I mean, believe me, when I grew up,
- 23:48Speaker 4: you could do whatever you want. I mean I would
- 23:50Speaker 4: go down to AG's Military surplus in South Charles and
- 23:52Speaker 4: I would have Ninja stars all over me. I would
- 23:54Speaker 4: have a big eight inch bowie knife on my belt.
- 23:57Speaker 4: I would have a pelagun that looked just like like
- 24:00Speaker 4: a forty four magnum or something like that, designed to
- 24:02Speaker 4: look just like one. And I would be walking around
- 24:04Speaker 4: and you're like, hey, look at that kid. Nobody thought
- 24:06Speaker 4: two things about it. It's not the same day.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Man.
- 24:09Speaker 4: I'm sorry, but it's just not nineteen eighty three anymore. Unfortunately,
- 24:12Speaker 4: one hundred percent. I couldn't have said it better. And
- 24:15Speaker 4: if you are in the Charleston area, you have is
- 24:17Speaker 4: you can always contact rosci T Officer Travis Bill. So
- 24:22Speaker 4: if it's like you know, obviously not criminal, just related,
- 24:25Speaker 4: you just need some additional help or be putting in
- 24:27Speaker 4: a right direction to services Hallis. I appreciate you taking
- 24:30Speaker 4: a couple of minutes out this morning and sharing this.
- 24:32Speaker 4: I just wanted to get that community piece out there
- 24:33Speaker 4: just in case somebody runs into this. So maybe they
- 24:35Speaker 4: know a little bit what's going on and maybe make
- 24:37Speaker 4: somebody think twice every once in a while.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I appreciate you, Coop.
- 24:40Speaker 4: I appreciate Hollis. Thank you so much. Hollis Lewis, Delegate

- 25:08Speaker 4: I'm not trying to moralize anything. When I was a kid,
- 25:09Speaker 4: I straight up looked like I mean, callabond. Before callibond, probably,
- 25:14Speaker 4: I mean I had ill fitting camos and stuff that
- 25:18Speaker 4: I that I would find from somewhere. I would have
- 25:21Speaker 4: knobs all over me. I had these these shurrigans, you know,
- 25:24Speaker 4: the Chinese throwing stars. I had, you know, magnetized oftentimes

- 25:42Speaker 4: Just not so sure that that's necessarily.

- 29:50Speaker 4: just tell them that ESSI sentcha because s he is
- 29:52Speaker 4: a huge fan of the husband's pizza. Just had delicate
- 29:55Speaker 4: Lewis one. We were talking about these all these things
- 29:58Speaker 4: that are going on with these kids takeovers. I was
- 30:01Speaker 4: doing a little bit of broader research with this. I
- 30:03Speaker 4: don't know if this is part of the same quite
- 30:05Speaker 4: the same cultural takeoff. There's some stuff social media stuff
- 30:08Speaker 4: like on TikTok and things like that, where there's there's
- 30:11Speaker 4: team takeovers. There's a big story I think in the
- 30:13Speaker 4: New York Post or something this weekend where there's kids
- 30:16Speaker 4: in New York that are It's not violent, it's flooding
- 30:19Speaker 4: public spaces.
- 30:21Speaker 6: I mean, frankly, when I was.
- 30:23Speaker 4: A kid, it was normal for for for kids to
- 30:26Speaker 4: show up and and to participate in outdoor spaces. But
- 30:30Speaker 4: I guess that it's seen, and depending on some of
- 30:33Speaker 4: the vibe to it, I guess it's seen a somewhat
- 30:35Speaker 4: threatening now when a bunch of kids show up in
- 30:37Speaker 4: one public place and do quote unquote takeovers. I don't
- 30:41Speaker 4: know if that's a subset of what's going on here
- 30:43Speaker 4: in Charleston, but there's some kids that are out there
- 30:45Speaker 4: that are playing with these sport guns or these water
- 30:49Speaker 4: these water guns that are sort of like old paintball
- 30:51Speaker 4: guns without as heart of a bladder. They don't go
- 30:54Speaker 4: quite as far, but they do splat splat guns that
- 30:57Speaker 4: does that, And it's just one of those things that, again,
- 31:00Speaker 4: when I was a kid, this wouldn't have been an
- 31:03Speaker 4: issue at all, but things are different now, and that's
- 31:06Speaker 4: just the way it is. We have some responses on
- 31:07Speaker 4: the text line. You're welcome to get in as well
- 31:09Speaker 4: if you want to send in an over text with
- 31:11Speaker 4: this or any other topic in the area. This morning
- 31:13Speaker 4: three zero four three four five or threes are four
- 31:15Speaker 4: nonin three five five zer zero eight is the Tony
- 31:17Speaker 4: Detailer text line. Threes are four non three five five
- 31:19Speaker 4: zero zero eight. You can also send us a message
- 31:22Speaker 4: on the Guarantee Bank or you can call on the
- 31:24Speaker 4: Guaranteed Bank phone line. That's the zero four three four
- 31:26Speaker 4: five fifty eight fifty eight three four five fifty eight fifty.
- 31:28Speaker 4: We're here for another twenty minutes or so if you
- 31:30Speaker 4: want to get in on a phone call this morning.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Let's see from the three zero four four three seven.
- 31:38Speaker 6: Let's see.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Uh, let me, I'll get to that one in just
- 31:41Speaker 4: a second. That one is not quite one topic, okay,
- 31:43Speaker 4: So from the from the three zero four or from
- 31:46Speaker 4: the six eight one four seven four, parents get control
- 31:48Speaker 4: of your kids to the little punks doing this. This
- 31:50Speaker 4: is not Detroit, This is not Los Angeles. This is
- 31:52Speaker 4: not New York where kids run over authority. Here in
- 31:55Speaker 4: West Virginia, we don't put up with this stuff because
- 31:57Speaker 4: someone will get shot over this, especially somebody that's had
- 31:59Speaker 4: their are broken into twice and that had their people
- 32:01Speaker 4: come into their yards like junkies. So if you come
- 32:04Speaker 4: with your little gun, nobodys want to ask you if
- 32:05Speaker 4: it's real or not, then it's too late because it is. Look,
- 32:10Speaker 4: I'm not saying that that sentiment isn't prevalent. I'm just
- 32:13Speaker 4: saying when I was growing up, that would have been
- 32:15Speaker 4: a ridiculous sentiment because the kids were playing like that
- 32:18Speaker 4: all the time. They had their fake guns all of
- 32:20Speaker 4: the time, cowboys and Indians. Look, I b I grew
- 32:23Speaker 4: up in a time that celebrated this sort of thing.
- 32:26Speaker 4: You got in trouble for watching like Lady Chatterley on Cinemax.
- 32:29Speaker 4: You didn't get in trouble for watching Rambo. So the
- 32:31Speaker 4: violence was okay, and pretending of the violence was okay.
- 32:35Speaker 4: I understand where you're coming from here, but man, we
- 32:37Speaker 4: have a whole system of where this stuff is okay,
- 32:41Speaker 4: and our movies and our culture and things along those lines.
- 32:43Speaker 6: Kids go out and.
- 32:44Speaker 4: Play cowboys and Indians, cops and robbers. It's been going
- 32:47Speaker 4: on forever. So I understand what you're saying. But at
- 32:51Speaker 4: some point or another, we got to allow kids to
- 32:55Speaker 4: be kids too, or at least to have a little
- 32:56Speaker 4: bit of a situational awareness. On the flip side of it,
- 33:00Speaker 4: I think parents do as well. It's not as safe
- 33:02Speaker 4: out there as it once was. It's a complicated discussion
- 33:04Speaker 4: when it comes with this stuff coming up at the
- 33:06Speaker 4: top of the hour. Want to have a talk line.
- 33:08Speaker 4: Of course tackling the top big stories of the day
- 33:10Speaker 4: from a state wide perspective. A lot of those have
- 33:12Speaker 4: to do with things that happen here in the Charleston area.
- 33:15Speaker 4: But I always like when I do the show to
- 33:17Speaker 4: maybe have an opportunity to focus on the things that
- 33:19Speaker 4: are happening hyper locally here in the Kanall Valley. I
- 33:21Speaker 4: asked Jeff Jenkins to come in just for a second,
- 33:23Speaker 4: just so we could touch on some of these stories,
- 33:24Speaker 4: because there's it's a big news date locally as well,
- 33:27Speaker 4: not just state wide.
- 33:28Speaker 17: Yeah, let me just pass along something here too. We've
- 33:30Speaker 17: got a fatal that's just been reported in Onwa on
- 33:35Speaker 17: UISH Route sixty down in Capel County there in Owa,
- 33:42Speaker 17: not far from the Putnam County line, and it's a
- 33:45Speaker 17: two vehicles confirmed here. I'm trying to check if it's
- 33:50Speaker 17: two vehicles, but we do know it is a crash
- 33:53Speaker 17: that has resulted in a death and that happened right
- 33:56Speaker 17: around eight forty five, so just a little less than
- 33:59Speaker 17: an hour ago, so I had some information about that,
- 34:02Speaker 17: but they're still working that scene, so US Route sixty
- 34:09Speaker 17: is closed in that area. Also, we just heard from
- 34:14Speaker 17: Daniel Woods and a case that we've been following in
- 34:19Speaker 17: Kanaw County is Jacob Fields. He was the young man
- 34:25Speaker 17: who was charged last year. Folks who remember remember this
- 34:30Speaker 17: case in the shooting death of Tiffany Atkins, a Marmette
- 34:34Speaker 17: woman who was walking into the sheets in Kanas City.
- 34:38Speaker 17: Didn't know her he was pumping gas. At first, it
- 34:42Speaker 17: was called an accidental shooting. He said he was cleaning
- 34:44Speaker 17: his gun, his gun went off, but not too long
- 34:47Speaker 17: afterward they charged him with murder because they said they
- 34:49Speaker 17: saw Prosecutors said the video surveillance showed that he was
- 34:56Speaker 17: that he it was intentional, he pointed the gun. Uh
- 35:00Speaker 17: And so that that case was scheduled to go to
- 35:02Speaker 17: trial later this year. The fact they just had a
- 35:04Speaker 17: hearing a few weeks ago that we covered a pre
- 35:06Speaker 17: trial hearing that the defense said, you know it was
- 35:10Speaker 17: starting to go over. You know a lot of discovery
- 35:12Speaker 17: and one of more discovery. Well, he has pled this
- 35:15Speaker 17: morning in court this morning, just got this from Daniel Woods.
- 35:18Speaker 17: He's in the courtroom. He's pled to involuntary manslaughter, which
- 35:24Speaker 17: is basically a misdemeanor which is an accidental shooting.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Uh.
- 35:28Speaker 17: So he's pled the involuntary manslaughter and want an endangement
- 35:30Speaker 17: with a firearm. So I have to get the facts
- 35:33Speaker 17: to that case. So involuntary is different than voluntary, which
- 35:37Speaker 17: is which is an intentional death, and it's you know,
- 35:41Speaker 17: it's a couple steps down from like first degree murder.
- 35:43Speaker 17: But but but we understand from Daniel he's played guilty
- 35:47Speaker 17: to involuntary manslaughter and want an endangement with a firearm.
- 35:50Speaker 17: So the prosecutors obviously offered that plea agreement, plea plea
- 35:57Speaker 17: bargain and he took it. So we'll get more information
- 36:02Speaker 17: about that.
- 36:02Speaker 4: So this is the one where the defense was claiming
- 36:06Speaker 4: that he was hallucinating, he was high.
- 36:08Speaker 6: That's a different one.
- 36:09Speaker 2: That was it.
- 36:09Speaker 6: I'm sorry I got one.
- 36:11Speaker 17: So this one, this one was the Knas City sheets
- 36:14Speaker 17: last summer.
- 36:15Speaker 6: That's right, the boy in the suv or the car.
- 36:19Speaker 17: Right, he's a truck. Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, Jacob Field
- 36:22Speaker 17: is in a truck. That's teenager. I think he was
- 36:24Speaker 17: nineteen at the time. And uh, and he didn't know
- 36:29Speaker 17: Tiffany Aikins. The morment one, she was walking toward the
- 36:32Speaker 17: front door of the sheets to go in the sheets
- 36:34Speaker 17: and she was shot and died. Now, prosecutors originally called this,
- 36:38Speaker 17: they were calling this a thrill kill. But again he's
- 36:42Speaker 17: pled to involuntary manslaughter and want dangement with a firearm.
- 36:46Speaker 17: So we'll see there was all I mean, I wasn't
- 36:50Speaker 17: in the courtroom, Daniels, So we'll report what was said
- 36:52Speaker 17: in the courtroom today. But it kind of sounds like
- 36:55Speaker 17: the prosecution had a problem with their case. You know,
- 36:59Speaker 17: there's some there's some weakness. There's some weakness there to
- 37:02Speaker 17: their case. So we'll get more on that. The trial
- 37:07Speaker 17: you're talking about is Timothy Kennedy. Kennedy who's charged with
- 37:12Speaker 17: killing State Police Sergeant Corey Maynard. And the Mayners lived
- 37:16Speaker 17: in this area. You lived in this area and Sergeant
- 37:21Speaker 17: Maynard was shot. Is now nearly three years ago. Next
- 37:25Speaker 17: month it'll be three years. And so Kennedy's been on trial.
- 37:27Speaker 17: This is the third week, and it looks like they're
- 37:30Speaker 17: getting close to rap. Well, the defense rested their case
- 37:33Speaker 17: on Friday, late Friday afternoon, and so if there was
- 37:36Speaker 17: any rebuttal witnesses from the prosecution, they will be called
- 37:39Speaker 17: this morning. If not, we're getting into the final stages
- 37:41Speaker 17: of the trial. So it's lasted a really long time.
- 37:45Speaker 17: There's no denial there that he fired the gun. His
- 37:49Speaker 17: defense is that he was hallucinating on math and didn't
- 37:53Speaker 17: remember what he did so or didn't know what he did.
- 37:57Speaker 17: So we see what the jury what the defense here,
- 38:01Speaker 17: and they've basically said it in which you can tell
- 38:04Speaker 17: with I mean, there aren't denying that he shot and
- 38:06Speaker 17: killed the trooper, but they want they wanted the lesser charge,
- 38:11Speaker 17: and they want a conviction on not first degree murder
- 38:14Speaker 17: but a second degree murder, a voluntary man slaughter that
- 38:17Speaker 17: shows you know, premeditation or something like that.
- 38:21Speaker 1: So we'll see.
- 38:22Speaker 17: I mean, they've they've they've put on they have put
- 38:25Speaker 17: on a pretty long defense. And Chris and I were
- 38:27Speaker 17: just talking about Chris Larens and I were just talking
- 38:29Speaker 17: about it. In similar cases you don't see this. It's
- 38:32Speaker 17: pretty a robust defense quite honestly, several days expert witnesses
- 38:36Speaker 17: to try to prove their point. So we'll see, we'll
- 38:39Speaker 17: see what the jury thinks, see what the jury thinks on.
- 38:42Speaker 6: That man at Those are two big stories.
- 38:44Speaker 17: Yeah, yeah, A couple of things. Other things is that
- 38:47Speaker 17: Charustle City Council meets tonight and they'll approve a paving project,
- 38:54Speaker 17: a paving, the summer paving program. I think it's about
- 38:57Speaker 17: three million dollars or so streets it will be. So
- 39:00Speaker 17: there's so little prove that tonight. And the mayor said
- 39:04Speaker 17: late last week actually on this show, about just all
- 39:07Speaker 17: the construction's going to be going on. We got a
- 39:08Speaker 17: lot of bridge construction taking place, We're gonna have at
- 39:11Speaker 17: the paving. We've got the Capital Connector project. We'll start
- 39:14Speaker 17: seeing construction on that in the near future. So there's
- 39:17Speaker 17: going to be a good bit of a construction going
- 39:19Speaker 17: on around here.
- 39:20Speaker 4: I already have people I guess that are traveling from
- 39:23Speaker 4: out of Charleston who are texting me on hotline that
- 39:26Speaker 4: are coming into Charleston and said, Coop, what's going on
- 39:28Speaker 4: with the traffic here?
- 39:29Speaker 6: Can you help me out?
- 39:30Speaker 4: Charleston the summer man busy activities, and we have some
- 39:33Speaker 4: construction going on now, so you just have to be
- 39:35Speaker 4: aware of those things. Yeah, exactly. It's just there are
- 39:37Speaker 4: sights you can go to. We share as much as
- 39:39Speaker 4: we can, but it's just the way it is in
- 39:41Speaker 4: the summertime.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Man, You got it.
- 39:42Speaker 6: You got to kind of roll with the punches.
- 39:44Speaker 4: Yeah, lots of stuff going on and you can follow
- 39:46Speaker 4: the news of today. Of course, local news at the

- 42:19Speaker 4: So stay tuned for that. That will be this week
- 42:22Speaker 4: for Dave Allen as we we swap in for him.
- 42:28Speaker 4: He deserves some time off, David. It's okay to give
- 42:29Speaker 4: Dave a little bit of time off.
- 42:30Speaker 6: He deserves that.
- 42:31Speaker 4: A couple of other things that are happening around the
- 42:34Speaker 4: state right now. You're welcome to send in and give
- 42:37Speaker 4: us a call. Three zer a four three four five
- 42:39Speaker 4: fifty eight fifty eight three zero four three four five
- 42:41Speaker 4: fifty eight fifty eight. You can text threes are a
- 42:42Speaker 4: four non three five five zero zero eight. Let's see
- 42:46Speaker 4: from the three zero four four three seven this isn't related.
- 42:52Speaker 4: This is this is just a comment probably getting ready
- 42:54Speaker 4: for talk line. Capital cost the state over two billion
- 42:56Speaker 4: dollars when she let up Trump take our infrastructure funds
- 42:58Speaker 4: that are allocated for our state and then from the
- 43:01Speaker 4: same number of these kids taking over sound a little
- 43:03Speaker 4: bit like ice agents taking over our cities. I mean,
- 43:09Speaker 4: I understand where you're coming from on some of that,
- 43:10Speaker 4: but again I don't know what these kids dispositions, or
- 43:14Speaker 4: the parents or things like that are. But I mean,
- 43:15Speaker 4: kids are going to be If we're talking eight to
- 43:17Speaker 4: ten year old kids with with these water guns, it
- 43:20Speaker 4: seems very silly in this day and age for us
- 43:23Speaker 4: to do this, But kids yet do very silly things.
- 43:25Speaker 4: So there has to be a responsibility for that somewhere,
- 43:28Speaker 4: for either talking them down or for the community to
- 43:30Speaker 4: be responsible for what's happening with kids ultimately that are playing.
- 43:35Speaker 4: Just something I wanted to make folks aware of with it.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Let's see from the six eight one four seven four,
- 43:40Speaker 4: this is a response earlier talking a pretty strong response
- 43:44Speaker 4: on folks that come into that they might see coming
- 43:47Speaker 4: in the yard. This is a response to that. I'm
- 43:48Speaker 4: a gen Exra two, and yes we played war as
- 43:50Speaker 4: well cowboys and end and and so forth. But that's
- 43:52Speaker 4: not the same as these packs going on and randily
- 43:54Speaker 4: shooting at people in the streets, are shooting at cars
- 43:56Speaker 4: that these kids are doing today. The problem is the
- 43:58Speaker 4: entitlement these kids now feel that they can do whatever
- 44:01Speaker 4: they want because nobody is going to do anything about it.
- 44:04Speaker 4: I'm sure there is a little bit of that. I'm
- 44:05Speaker 4: sure there's a little bit of that, But again, there
- 44:07Speaker 4: were kids shooting pellet guns at cars when I was
- 44:09Speaker 4: growing up. They got in trouble for it. Don't get
- 44:12Speaker 4: me wrong, but kids misbehaving has been happening for a
- 44:15Speaker 4: long time, even within this context. I knew many of
- 44:18Speaker 4: my I was a good kid for the most part,
- 44:20Speaker 4: although I did doing these things. But I had some
- 44:23Speaker 4: friends that got into some trouble every once in a
- 44:25Speaker 4: while for things like this. So these things do come up.
- 44:27Speaker 4: But I understand that perspective, and believe me, with some
- 44:30Speaker 4: of the traffic that I get around my house, my
- 44:34Speaker 4: head's on this swivel all the time. I have security
- 44:36Speaker 4: cameras out everywhere. I get where you're coming from on this.
- 44:39Speaker 4: But also I see people that get on that neighborhood
- 44:42Speaker 4: app and stuff and send red alerts up when there's
- 44:44Speaker 4: a suspicious activity in the neighborhood. And then on my
- 44:48Speaker 4: cameras and when I go out and look, it's literally
- 44:50Speaker 4: kids playing. I've seen somebody take a picture of a
- 44:54Speaker 4: child riding a bike, a child on a brand new bike,
- 44:57Speaker 4: well dressed, riding in the middle of the street. But
- 45:00Speaker 4: it was the middle of a side street, just like
- 45:02Speaker 4: riding around in circles. And somebody, an adult, took a
- 45:06Speaker 4: picture of this child and put it on one of
- 45:08Speaker 4: these Facebook groups about your neighborhood watch saying who's kid
- 45:11Speaker 4: it is this, Come and get your kid. I'm sorry, man,
- 45:13Speaker 4: that's like a ten year old kid riding his bike.
- 45:16Speaker 4: Why are we putting pictures of kids on the internet.
- 45:20Speaker 4: I mean, we have to have a little common sense
- 45:21Speaker 4: when it comes to this stuff. I get you got
- 45:23Speaker 4: to protect what's yours, and you got to make sure
- 45:25Speaker 4: that all that's good. But man, when you got a
- 45:27Speaker 4: kid that's just simply playing outside, isn't that what we're
- 45:29Speaker 4: telling them to do? Get off, get off the computer,
- 45:31Speaker 4: go outside and play. I'm not talking about necessiarily these
- 45:34Speaker 4: kids with the with the water splatters or whatever, because
- 45:36Speaker 4: it sounds like that that they might be putting themselves
- 45:40Speaker 4: in situations where where you know that you're kind of
- 45:44Speaker 4: walking the line a little bit. You got a kid
- 45:45Speaker 4: that's just riding a bike around in your neighborhood, a
- 45:47Speaker 4: kid that's just walking I see this all the time
- 45:49Speaker 4: on these Facebook groups or these neighborhood aps, where people
- 45:52Speaker 4: absolutely lose their mind over just people. Yes, there's other
- 45:55Speaker 4: problems too, I know there is, But when there's a
- 45:58Speaker 4: kid just riding a bike and riding around in circles
- 46:01Speaker 4: and just like killing Tom Man, That's all I did
- 46:03Speaker 4: when I was like nine years old on a bike.
- 46:07Speaker 4: I mean that was my main that was my main
- 46:09Speaker 4: way to pass time. So I mean, there's there's gotta
- 46:12Speaker 4: be a there's got to be a line that we're
- 46:14Speaker 4: looking at here. We don't want an accident to happen
- 46:17Speaker 4: with a kid that's just mining his own business, or
- 46:19Speaker 4: to send somebody after a kid who's just mining his
- 46:22Speaker 4: own business. We've seen too much of this stuff, not
- 46:24Speaker 4: saying that that's every case that's going on with the
- 46:26Speaker 4: stuff we heard this weekend. That could be a problem,
- 46:28Speaker 4: and I understand that, but broadly speaking, I see this
- 46:31Speaker 4: with all kinds of minor, little fractions. This kid was
- 46:35Speaker 4: in my yard. I mean sometimes I saw something one
- 46:38Speaker 4: time where somebody was complaining and the picture that they
- 46:40Speaker 4: shared online was obviously a kid that was checking his
- 46:42Speaker 4: tire pressure or something on his tire. And it was
- 46:44Speaker 4: obviously a kid. He wasn't dressed bad, he was dressed fine.
- 46:47Speaker 4: He was just on a bike and he put his
- 46:49Speaker 4: bike on the side of the road and it looked
- 46:51Speaker 4: like he was checking his tire or his chain on something.
- 46:53Speaker 4: What's this kid doing in my yard? It looks like
- 46:55Speaker 4: he's checking the chain on his tire, man, which isn't
- 46:58Speaker 4: a crime. I mean, he's only your offer. You tell
- 47:00Speaker 4: them to get off your property, if it's that big
- 47:02Speaker 4: of a deal. I'm just we have to have some
- 47:05Speaker 4: awareness about what's going on with these things, because if
- 47:07Speaker 4: we want kids to be kids, we have to let
- 47:09Speaker 4: them be kids.
- 47:10Speaker 6: You gotta let them.
- 47:10Speaker 4: You got to let them do kid things and not
- 47:12Speaker 4: get in trouble for doing kid things. Again, not necessarily
- 47:15Speaker 4: it's water splat things, because that the optics of that
- 47:17Speaker 4: are not good and you have to be careful of
- 47:19Speaker 4: some of that stuff because you can put yourself in
- 47:21Speaker 4: a dangerous situation. But when you start going down the
- 47:24Speaker 4: line and looking at things that people are getting mad at,
- 47:27Speaker 4: sometimes it's just relatively normal activity. And sometimes I think
- 47:31Speaker 4: we're a little bit too engaged in our Facebook groups,
- 47:34Speaker 4: too engaged in our neighborhood groups, to engage with taking
- 47:37Speaker 4: security photos of children and putting them on line. I
- 47:40Speaker 4: just think we're a little bit too far over those things.
- 47:42Speaker 4: Sometimes you got to protect your what's yours. I don't
- 47:45Speaker 4: have any problem with that, but just have a little
- 47:46Speaker 4: bit of awareness of you know, maybe not every kid
- 47:49Speaker 4: is a is a potential criminal, and sometimes kids are
- 47:52Speaker 4: just going to be kids.
- 47:53Speaker 6: And and uh.
- 47:54Speaker 4: Again not every time, but that's let's see, let's see
- 47:59Speaker 4: excuse using it and bending over backwards.
- 48:01Speaker 6: Brother.
- 48:02Speaker 4: You can think whatever you want to, but I see
- 48:03Speaker 4: this happen all the time, where there's just a regular
- 48:05Speaker 4: eight year old kid riding a bike and the neighborhood's
- 48:08Speaker 4: about ready to go get him because all he's doing
- 48:10Speaker 4: is riding a bike down an alley. And I'm just
- 48:11Speaker 4: saying that that ain't right. DJ Meadows is joining me
- 48:14Speaker 4: from talk line. Not everybody agrees with me on this,
- 48:16Speaker 4: that that that these little snots out here they're out
- 48:19Speaker 4: here playing need to be uh shown their place. But
- 48:21Speaker 4: I just think we've got to let kids be kids
- 48:23Speaker 4: in certain circumstan. What are they doing This thing in
- 48:26Speaker 4: Charleston that happen is we have these kids that have
- 48:29Speaker 4: the splat guns, the squirt guns, and so they're they're
- 48:31Speaker 4: playing war basically, but they're playing urbanly, like on the street,
- 48:34Speaker 4: and so they're running out with guns in the streets.
- 48:36Speaker 4: Some of them are taking shots at cars, and so
- 48:38Speaker 4: you're some cars are getting wet and things along those lines.
- 48:41Speaker 6: So that I'm not.
- 48:42Speaker 11: Saying car got wet, Oh my goodness.
- 48:43Speaker 4: I'm not saying that's not a problem. Because optically, if
- 48:45Speaker 4: you're somebody that's that's packing and you see somebody jump
- 48:48Speaker 4: out in front of you with a gun or something,
- 48:49Speaker 4: that could be a problem. I'm not saying that's not
- 48:51Speaker 4: a problem. I'm saying that where this derives from. I
- 48:54Speaker 4: see this all the time with people in my neighborhood
- 48:57Speaker 4: who share pictures of just kids doing nothing, and they're
- 49:00Speaker 4: posting a picture of like a fourteen year old kid
- 49:03Speaker 4: not with their face covered or anything else, Like whose
- 49:05Speaker 4: kid is this? Come get them and all they're doing
- 49:07Speaker 4: is riding a bike in an alley or something. We
- 49:09Speaker 4: can't be doing that if we want kids to be kids.
- 49:11Speaker 7: No, I heard the thing changing the kids. I think
- 49:14Speaker 7: you said it was a flat tire or it was
- 49:16Speaker 7: his chain came off the bike or whatever. Come on, man,
- 49:19Speaker 7: I've just seen them before. I've just you've got to
- 49:21Speaker 7: protect yours. I'm not saying you can't.
- 49:23Speaker 4: There's somebody that's super mad at me now because I
- 49:25Speaker 4: think that we need to let let them be. Yeah,
- 49:28Speaker 4: I'm just saying that I've seen it. I'm fifty two
- 49:31Speaker 4: year olds. Me too, man, me too.
- 49:34Speaker 7: Look, as a father of three, I can tell you
- 49:36Speaker 7: as good as my kids are, and I think as
- 49:38Speaker 7: good as your child is. Kids make mistakes, kids do things.
- 49:41Speaker 7: Kids need grace as much as adults need grace. And
- 49:46Speaker 7: think about it like this. If a kid's on your
- 49:47Speaker 7: property and you want to go out have a moment with.
- 49:50Speaker 11: Them, go out, help them change.
- 49:53Speaker 7: Retire or change the chain, what's going on, and maybe
- 49:55Speaker 7: have ripples in the pond right that, move forward, Engage,
- 49:58Speaker 7: don't just do this Facebook thing and put somebody's kid
- 50:02Speaker 7: on Facebook that they're and they're not doing anything. It'd
- 50:04Speaker 7: be different if the kid was spray painting your house
- 50:06Speaker 7: or messing up your linscaping or something. I mean, come on,
- 50:10Speaker 7: these are kids, and you know, think of it this way,
- 50:13Speaker 7: even if you're not a parent, think of it this way.
- 50:15Speaker 11: That child. It's a chance to change that child's life.
- 50:18Speaker 7: And because it takes a village coop, especially today, everything
- 50:21Speaker 7: that kids can get into. And I heard you say this,
- 50:23Speaker 7: and you're absolutely right. We want them more outside, we
- 50:25Speaker 7: want them doing things, we want them away from the screens.
- 50:27Speaker 7: We have to support that, right, I mean.
- 50:29Speaker 4: So yea, sometimes if you have friends, maybe you have
- 50:32Speaker 4: three or four and maybe you're on a three or
- 50:35Speaker 4: four people on a bike. I'm not saying that you're
- 50:36Speaker 4: carrying around the sport guns or whatever, but maybe they cut
- 50:39Speaker 4: the corner off your property when they're going around the corner.
- 50:41Speaker 6: Kids, will you know?
- 50:42Speaker 4: I mean, And and what I'm saying, don't take a
- 50:45Speaker 4: picture of that fourteen year old kid and put it
- 50:47Speaker 4: on the internet. There's a lot of dangerous people out
- 50:49Speaker 4: there that are real interested in that fourteen year old kid.
- 50:52Speaker 4: And that's way more dangerous than somebody cutting your part.
- 50:54Speaker 7: Here's an idea. Go talk to their parents that too.
- 50:57Speaker 7: I mean, you could go talk to their parents. I
- 50:58Speaker 7: had to do that. We had kids coming down. We
- 51:00Speaker 7: have a hill in our neighborhood. They're riding down the
- 51:02Speaker 7: hill like warriors, way too fast, no helmet. They're gonna
- 51:08Speaker 7: fall and they're gonna hurt. So you go have a
- 51:09Speaker 7: talk with the parents and say, hey, it's none of
- 51:11Speaker 7: my business, but that's all. You got it too. Yeah,
- 51:14Speaker 7: it ain't hard. Yeah, it ain't hard be a human.
- 51:17Speaker 6: What's coming up on the Big Show.
- 51:19Speaker 7: So we're going to get into a governor making big
- 51:21Speaker 7: announcements this morning about audits. We'll talk about that and
- 51:25Speaker 7: get you the details and figure out what it means.
- 51:27Speaker 7: Scott McFarland of Midas touched media out of DC talking
- 51:30Speaker 7: about gas taxes. Jack woodrum somers County Senator Great op
- 51:35Speaker 7: ed last week from him about the election and what
- 51:38Speaker 7: we should strive for. He'll join us on the show
- 51:40Speaker 7: as well as Jason Huffman from Americans for Prosperity.
- 51:44Speaker 6: Great show. I always look forward to it.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Man.
