Latest / Hurdle with Emily Abbate / 5-MINUTE FRIDAY: You Don't Need to Set Goals To Zero In On What You Want
Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Emily Abadi coming to you live from the
- 0:23Speaker 1: Age Studio on this final day of twenty twenty one,
- 0:27Speaker 1: which also happens to be Hurdle's fourth birthday. Is this
- 0:35Speaker 1: what it feels like when you have a kid and
- 0:36Speaker 1: it's their birthday. It's a little It's not silly to
- 0:40Speaker 1: celebrate it. I think it's worthy of this moment, but
- 0:44Speaker 1: it is kind of funny in that I literally bought
- 0:47Speaker 1: a couple of balloons and myself a cupcake, and I
- 0:50Speaker 1: will one hundred percent be acting as though it is
- 0:53Speaker 1: my personal birthday today, especially because I mean New Year's
- 0:57Speaker 1: Eve this year.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I don't know about all of you, but my plan.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Is to make pizza at home with a friend of
- 1:04Speaker 1: mine and our other friend's dog who happens.
- 1:07Speaker 3: To be off galivanting and whistlers. So really, all things considered,
- 1:12Speaker 3: a few extra cupcakes around the apartment isn't such a
- 1:15Speaker 3: bad thing. Firstly, thank you to all of you for
- 1:20Speaker 3: empowering me to keep doing this thing, for coming back
- 1:22Speaker 3: to this feed week after week. It kind of blows
- 1:25Speaker 3: my mind that four years into this, this is nothing
- 1:28Speaker 3: really what.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I thought it would be.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I don't even know if I really thought about in
- 1:33Speaker 1: depth what this would become, but the community and the
- 1:36Speaker 1: connections and the opportunities that have come my way because
- 1:40Speaker 1: one day I decided that I was going to try
- 1:43Speaker 1: making a podcast.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it's it's pretty special.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I'm kind of mixing up the order this week because
- 1:51Speaker 1: the listener question is actually exactly what I want to
- 1:54Speaker 1: talk about. So for this week on five Minute Friday,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'm going to kickstart with a listener question.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Hey am, it's Lauren from Louisville.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I love this week' hurdle moment with the end of
- 2:06Speaker 1: the year highlights, and I'm definitely stoked for the turning
- 2:10Speaker 1: the page series again.
- 2:11Speaker 2: What's the word that summarizes your year?
- 2:14Speaker 1: I just want to before I get into this question,
- 2:17Speaker 1: give Lauren a little bit of love because we've had
- 2:20Speaker 1: the opportunity to meet a few times. The last time
- 2:22Speaker 1: that she was in New York, she and I actually
- 2:26Speaker 1: sat down and had one on one coffee and it
- 2:28Speaker 1: was really special. But I'll never forget. I believe it
- 2:32Speaker 1: was in Chicago. I think when I noticed that in
- 2:38Speaker 1: her Instagram bio, like one of the descriptors. One of
- 2:42Speaker 1: the way that she identifies herself is as a hurdler,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and I was sitting at dinner with a girlfriend of
- 2:50Speaker 1: mine and I saw it and I looked up and
- 2:52Speaker 1: I looked at my friend and I just started like
- 2:54Speaker 1: hysterically crying.
- 2:56Speaker 2: And it's just really special to me.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I think there's so much more that I want to
- 2:59Speaker 1: do and building this community, but to know that I
- 3:03Speaker 1: have had the opportunity to impact someone in the content
- 3:09Speaker 1: that I put out and the things that I do
- 3:10Speaker 1: so much that they identify by this thing that I do,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just it's it's really beautiful and
- 3:19Speaker 1: I'm really grateful for her in this community. And thanks Laura,
- 3:23Speaker 1: thanks for the question, and thank you for being you.
- 3:26Speaker 1: With that said, okay, I'm getting a little rambly now.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Next week, if you've been listening to the show or
- 3:30Speaker 1: following along on social media, I am hosting the second installment,
- 3:36Speaker 1: second year in a row, of the Turning the Page series,
- 3:38Speaker 1: And what that series really is is me catching up
- 3:41Speaker 1: with past guests from the last year on the show
- 3:44Speaker 1: to talk to them about how their year went, what
- 3:47Speaker 1: their word for the year was, what their biggest takeaways
- 3:51Speaker 1: have been, and what they're hoping to get into in
- 3:54Speaker 1: twenty twenty two and beyond, and so I'm really amped
- 3:57Speaker 1: to bring you all of these conversations with amazing people
- 4:00Speaker 1: like Beck's Gentry and Trent Shelton, Mindy Grossman from ww
- 4:06Speaker 1: Alex silver Fagan, and I cannot forget Ali Aradi, the
- 4:10Speaker 1: CEO and founder of Tonal. So much goodness on deck
- 4:12Speaker 1: for Hurdle next week to inspire you in the new
- 4:15Speaker 1: year and beyond. But in this as I mentioned asking
- 4:19Speaker 1: them all to give me a word that's summed up
- 4:20Speaker 1: their previous year, I have been thinking about what my
- 4:24Speaker 1: word is going into twenty twenty two. I also write
- 4:27Speaker 1: about this in this week's Weekly Hurdle newsletter, but I'm
- 4:30Speaker 1: going to expand on it a little bit more now.
- 4:33Speaker 1: If you don't subscribe to the Weekly Hurdle, make sure
- 4:35Speaker 1: to click the link in the show notes to do
- 4:36Speaker 1: just that. My word for twenty twenty two is bigger.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And I use that word very purposefully because I want
- 4:48Speaker 1: things to be bigger in so many aspects of my life.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I sat down with Jess Simms on Wednesday. Many of
- 4:55Speaker 1: you know her from the show and from loving her
- 4:59Speaker 1: on Peloton, and we were good friends and we were
- 5:02Speaker 1: sitting down kind of having like a vision and goals moment.
- 5:05Speaker 1: We were gonna just grab coffee, and she asked me
- 5:08Speaker 1: if I wanted to vision board, and then we kind
- 5:09Speaker 1: of decided that we needed a moment to hash out
- 5:12Speaker 1: what would go on the vision board or to things
- 5:14Speaker 1: that really wanted before we started like cutting things out
- 5:16Speaker 1: of magazines like we were sixteen years old. Anyway, we
- 5:21Speaker 1: were sitting down and talking about the things that we wanted,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and I was really thinking about this word, because the
- 5:25Speaker 1: things that I want are really big. I want and
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna say this and I don't really know how
- 5:32Speaker 1: it's gonna sound, but I want to walk into more
- 5:35Speaker 1: rooms and not have to introduce myself.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I want to make such an.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Impact in my community in this industry that I am
- 5:45Speaker 1: a force to be reckoned with. And I want to
- 5:49Speaker 1: do this in a really humble way. It's not that
- 5:51Speaker 1: I want to come into a room and know that
- 5:53Speaker 1: I don't need to introduce myself, and so I don't
- 5:55Speaker 1: know like I will always smile and introduce myself and
- 5:59Speaker 1: I always want to meet new people.
- 6:01Speaker 2: It's not about that.
- 6:02Speaker 1: What I mean is that I am ready to step
- 6:06Speaker 1: into my power in what it is that I'm creating
- 6:09Speaker 1: and what it is that I'm capable of. I want
- 6:12Speaker 1: bigger in my relationships. I want bigger in the partnerships.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I want to dream big. I want to really like
- 6:21Speaker 1: stretch the bounds of what maybe I have been doing
- 6:26Speaker 1: and stop confining myself into a box that might be
- 6:31Speaker 1: what I think to be realistic. At this point, I'm
- 6:35Speaker 1: ready to get bigger than that, and I'm ready to
- 6:40Speaker 1: do more. And I think that the last couple of
- 6:43Speaker 1: years many of us have found this frustration and feeling
- 6:47Speaker 1: as though we kind of have to wait to go
- 6:49Speaker 1: after some of the things that we want because of
- 6:51Speaker 1: the I'm like gesturing with my hands here like.
- 6:54Speaker 2: The state of the world.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But honestly, if that I am done waiting, life is
- 7:00Speaker 1: too damn short to wait and hope that opportunities arise.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I am ready to step into the light and go
- 7:09Speaker 1: after the things that I want without making excuses anymore.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And I say this in the Weekly Hurdle. I'm not
- 7:15Speaker 1: here saying that you need to sit down with a
- 7:17Speaker 1: pen and a paper and you need to spend like
- 7:19Speaker 1: hours and hours writing goals. But if you want to
- 7:21Speaker 1: write some goals, I have an on demand session for that,
- 7:24Speaker 1: and you can find it in the show notes.
- 7:25Speaker 2: What I am saying is that it will not hurt you.
- 7:28Speaker 1: It will only help you if you dream big and
- 7:31Speaker 1: write some of those dreams down. Maybe, and this is
- 7:34Speaker 1: a really special thought, you can be the thing that
- 7:37Speaker 1: inspires yourself to take the action that you have been
- 7:40Speaker 1: dreaming about. Maybe right now it's the time to make
- 7:46Speaker 1: that dream a reality. Maybe right now is that time
- 7:49Speaker 1: to take the action that has been scaring you for
- 7:53Speaker 1: so long?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Right?
- 7:55Speaker 3: What if?
- 7:55Speaker 1: Now?
- 7:56Speaker 2: What if?
- 7:57Speaker 1: Now is that time? And so that's kind of what
- 8:01Speaker 1: I've been thinking about. We already tackle the listener questions,
- 8:04Speaker 1: So I guess that just leaves me to say another
- 8:07Speaker 1: hurdle conquered at Emily Body at Hurdle Podcast twenty twenty one.
- 8:13Speaker 2: You have been something else.
