- 1:07DJ Been, I Mean aka Quartercepts, Rex, Holy Shit, Joel
- 1:11spoken on that Indonesia clicker bait here on the I guess it's not really a
- 1:18spaceship, but you know, we here night, yeah nights. I like
- 1:23that here in the p Tree Dish alongside my wonderful co host Tatiana King aka
- 1:30four Sports and seven years Ago AKA for Us by the Last of us aka,
- 1:34The Blacks of Us aka Elliott Ness and Yes BENHAMI. We are back
- 1:40here to talk all things about episode seven of this first season of The Lack
- 1:44of Us. I gave you the title of teen Angst at them All.
- 1:48I don't know about how you felt about the title on this or how or
- 1:51how you felt about the overall story of this episode. It was cool,
- 1:57um, it was interesting. You know, well, we'll get to that.
- 1:59Um. Yeah, the Blacks of Us though, I wanted to talk
- 2:01about that because I almost wanted to name the podcast the Blacks of Us.
- 2:05But as we see, the Blacks of Us are getting you know, mistreated,
- 2:08you know, once again, it is the Lack of Us, you
- 2:10know. But it goes back to what I've also said before time and time
- 2:15again. You cannot have inclusion and revolution without having people taking els. But
- 2:21man, we're you know, yeah, we're over We're over something on this
- 2:24show right now. But also you know, because it reminds me of a
- 2:29comment we received on Twitter and I have to be here, like you know,
- 2:32Nigga's Divydaby right like there's gonna be times where it is the black character
- 2:37you want them to be there from them this that in the third and then
- 2:39they take the L. And my thing is, if it makes sense for
- 2:43them to take the L, then so fucking bid, wrong plays, wrong
- 2:46time for you. Right, I'm not going to cry with spilled milk like
- 2:50that. It's when it's like if it's a black character and I'm not saying
- 2:53that's what happened this episode. I'm talking in generalities, but it's a black
- 2:57character and it's like the writing goes out of its way and mistreat that character,
- 3:00or like it's just extra or it's just like incredibly much more traumatic and
- 3:07more so because that character is black. Then that's kind of when I have
- 3:12st having my problems. So yo, I'm I'm listening. Traumatic shit happens
- 3:17every day too. Like shit happens, and as you already alluded to,
- 3:23if you want us to be included and have full fledgedful stories, bad shit's
- 3:28gonna happen. Happened, it is one of it, just like in our
- 3:34lives. It's real humans. Bad shit happens, Okay, good shit happens,
- 3:39Foul shit happens, Amazing shit happens. It is what it is.
- 3:43It's just a full spectrum of life. And I'm okay with that. It's
- 3:46when it's just like you're deliberately writing this person to be a bastard, you
- 3:50know what I'm saying in a less it's just that part of this characterisation,
- 3:53just like, all right, you're going out to wear it's clear you don't
- 3:57like black people. When when is that? Then? I got other than
- 4:00that, I'm good, Yeah, I'm good. I'm still wondering what was
- 4:02that comment on Twitter though? What was exactly? Oh, they were just
- 4:05talking about Henry, how we felt so bad, like how we felt so
- 4:10hurt about the Henry and Sam. Oh yeah, whenever people start off with
- 4:15you say, oh, you know, I'm black, I'm all about blackness.
- 4:17But it wasn't that serious. And I'm like, listen, y'all,
- 4:20like, don't tell not And I'm gonna repeat some of my response. I'm
- 4:25not a fan of telling other people how to feel. Not Number one and
- 4:29number two like that shit hurt, hurt it and still hurts me, Like,
- 4:36um it it was I was I'm investing in that particular character, in
- 4:41those particular characters and what that story was, and and and they were well
- 4:46inserted into the story and then to be invested in and then come out go
- 4:49out like that. That shit was wild. Okay. I think that might
- 4:55have affected my reaction to this episode, because I was like, ain't no
- 5:00way right in making out of this one? You know, I had no
- 5:03hope for her. You know, I didn't even think because she was black.
- 5:06I'm just like, because this is the last of us added and there's
- 5:11always and I said this before, there's always an air as it should be,
- 5:15of danger and possible death at every other line of dialogue said by a
- 5:23character. Anytime the camera's not perfectly centered in a shot, anytime the fucking
- 5:29leaf blows in the frame, I'm fucking shaking in my boots, like,
- 5:32Oh, what's the funk's about to happen? And then I'll be And that's
- 5:36what's masterful about it, because throughout this whole goddamn episode, I'm like,
- 5:40Yo, what the fuck about to happen? Oh, they're about to take
- 5:43the l right here, right here here. You know what I'm saying.
- 5:44I'm trying. I'm anticipating the els and there's nose elves coming, and then
- 5:47when it does come, you're not fucking prepared and I hate that shit.
- 5:50But that's masterful work because I can't guess it. See, in this one,
- 5:56I didn't breathe. I thought it was well done. I wouldn't say
- 5:59masterful because I thought it would like it kind of stretched it out after a
- 6:02while, because you know, it's, oh yeah. Let me be clear,
- 6:05I'm not talking about the episode. I'm talking about masterful work in seating
- 6:10fear throughout a show, seating fear throughout regular situations that you see characters talking.
- 6:16It could really be a truly innocuous situation, but you still feel the
- 6:20tense undercurrent. That's what I'm talking about. And I think this show does
- 6:24that masterfully. I think so. It definitely appoints, and even in this
- 6:28episode, I think it was pretty well done. It even reminded me of
- 6:31there's a classic I think it's all a touch of evil. It's an Alfred
- 6:35Hitchcock joint where the opening shot is super long. It's one of the first,
- 6:41you know, super long shots like that. But they put a bomb
- 6:45in the back of his car, and then the camera follows this car and
- 6:49the dude driving obviously doesn't know there's a bomb in the back of the car,
- 6:54but the audience countdown or something. Well, yeah, and it's like,
- 6:58you know, I don't want to spoil it because it's a class thinking
- 7:00you should pep. It's probably on YouTube at least that shot. But the
- 7:02camera then follows this car throughout the shot and it's super ill. And that's
- 7:09what this reminded me of in a way, where it's like they show you
- 7:12dude, you know, up against the wall, and you know what's going
- 7:15to happen, because you know, these girls are out there making noise and
- 7:17doing the things that are gonna trap them, and eventually his ass don't show
- 7:21up. You know, at some point in this episode, you knew that
- 7:26man was coming for them, you know, and I thought it wasn't the
- 7:30same man that fell through the room through the steps. No, that was
- 7:33the dude. No, that was the dude who they showed he was vegged
- 7:38up against the wall. He was the same guy. No, No,
- 7:42the dude who fell through the steps is random. Yeah, he had another
- 7:45building. Remember they went jumping over you know. No, No, I'm
- 7:48talking about my man who's Yeah. And then for the rest of the episode,
- 7:54up until he came through, you knew he was coming because they're over
- 7:58here making all kind of noise, they're yelling at each other, just being
- 8:01knocking the trash can over and she walking out and then once again this goes
- 8:05back to to me like dumb dumb things, like dumb ass kids, and
- 8:09it's just like, bro y'all, that's like how I felt with um,
- 8:13Henry y'all in a dangerous ass environment and situation. Why why are you acting
- 8:18like everything like everything chill, like I don't understand. Everything's not sweet right
- 8:24now. And granted she says she's been living there, right she has an
- 8:28essentially false sense of security, like, oh, there's no there's no effected
- 8:31in here. Nobody knows about this. It hasn't been lit up until like
- 8:35literally that week I think, or that day, a couple of days ago.
- 8:37She said so because they hadn't had electricity, and they didn't they wasn't
- 8:41looking at the damn mall. They were trying to light up a different block.
- 8:43But the point is I could see how it's made to be like,
- 8:46look, no one knows about this place. It is what is me and
- 8:48myself personally. I don't trust shit. I don't trust shit mall before and
- 8:56that's what abuve me out like she'd been living there and she ain't went through
- 9:00it, you know, placed my place and like, oh noticed, for
- 9:03real, dude had been there. You know. It wasn't like dude was
- 9:05like fresh there. You know, he had mad growth around him. He
- 9:09had been sitting there. He had been waiting for somebody to come through so
- 9:11he could eat him up. And you know, I mean, I know
- 9:16we say niggas die every day, be he but God damn fam Like I
- 9:20guess you know, still so every baby. So let's continue that just about
- 9:26the things we liked. Like, I know that some of that stuff you're
- 9:31like, why didn't have to happen like that? But one of the things
- 9:33that we both liked, Storm read was really what she camera screen. I
- 9:37lit up, I said, Storm, yes, and and it's so good
- 9:41because I and I know us both. But I've watched her grow up on
- 9:45this on as an actress. So you've seen her when she was very much
- 9:48younger. Wasn't she ruled from the Hunger Game? Don't That was another girl?
- 9:52That was no, that was no. That's um yeah, that was
- 9:56no, that wasn't. But my point is she was rude. But I
- 10:00remember the name rue. She was Ruth's little sister in Or is Ruth's little
- 10:03sister in Euphor? And um, you know she was in things? Uh
- 10:09what was it the movie that Oprah like produced whatever? But Storm? And
- 10:16then Storm's also in that movie. I wanted to see where, um where
- 10:20like her mom got kidnapped and like she's trying to after her like the social
- 10:22media stuff. Yeah. So anyway, like I just I just really enjoyed
- 10:26Storm as an actor and like all the stuff that she's been in and and
- 10:31and to see her expand in this way is really cool, right, And
- 10:33I mean talk about the span Storm got tall like she yam on Ellie and
- 10:39probably is in there too, like she is now the little sister became the
- 10:43sister boy behind your old g Now, yeah that was that was the highlight
- 10:56of this episode, seeing Storm and her guest starring ass rightly rightly. Yeah,
- 11:03h what else did you like? Then? Let's see, Um I
- 11:07love Okay, I was not the I guess I'm looking at your notes.
- 11:13It was a very huge story. I guess you know. It was like
- 11:18you've been let me let me say this because I will similarly characterization coming of
- 11:22age story. They did drag it it was dragging the ed and they dragged
- 11:26it with things that were like I was like, okay, this is I'm
- 11:30it left me wondering, all right, and this is something that I was
- 11:33thinking about, right, Okay. There was a lot of use of like
- 11:35eighties imagery, you know, the mall, the the walkman, you know
- 11:41from the very jump the Walkman, the aha you know, you see the
- 11:45aha and then you hear aha, you know. And then they even had
- 11:50the mask on. One of them had like the wolf mash and they're standing
- 11:54on the lighted wolf. Yeah, teen wolf. And also like Thriller where
- 11:58they're standing on the lighted step, you know. And or is that beat
- 12:01it? You know you have beat it? Right, Billy Jean, Billy
- 12:05Jean one two three missed? Yeah, so Billy Jean. You know all
- 12:11these different references, and I'm like, okay, these girls know nothing about
- 12:16that, you know, Like, so why other than the writers probably know
- 12:20a lot about that? Is yeah? Well yeah, but you know what
- 12:26for them not to know certain things, they knew some things too, right,
- 12:31And this is what I actually when you talk about the eighties references stuff
- 12:33like that and this stuff. Remember a few episodes back, I kept asking,
- 12:37and I didn't buy what y'all, what you or the audience, what
- 12:39people listening was telling me. When I was like, how did Ellie know
- 12:43how to use a cassette? And y'all came up with all this, Oh,
- 12:45because there's stuff from the bygone era around she figured it out. I'm
- 12:48like, I don't know, because like I would never pick up a goddamn
- 12:50cassette if I had no idea what the fuck that was or try to figure
- 12:54it out. So this is why, because she's been using it and that's
- 12:58just something that she's used and listened to the music and all this other stuff.
- 13:01So she has history with this. So I really liked them showing where
- 13:05all that came from. But that was the answer to my question. Okay,
- 13:09well that was good, you know, nice little callback and connection there
- 13:13made there. But it is also like, okay, all these eighties references,
- 13:16I was just on a girl who you know, grew up in the
- 13:20two thousands. I was just trying to bid, like, well, you
- 13:24know what, let's think about it this way. Ben Like the gen Z
- 13:26now, like they're real big on the early two thousands, and that was
- 13:31twenty years ago now, So if a person who was born in you know,
- 13:35it's a two thousand and three girl. If the eighties is their influence,
- 13:39that was twenty years ago right from that point, right, So I
- 13:43mean this is also true. Nostalgia is usually about you know, twenty and
- 13:48forty year generations and shot like that. Yeah. So I mean, so
- 13:50I could I could see this is still popping now, right. And also
- 13:54when you think about it, they had to had to be that stuff from
- 13:58either eighties or early nights, because those are the only thing that would work
- 14:01in this type of environment, at least in the environment where they're building back
- 14:03up to having ship like a power grid, they're building back up to having
- 14:07things like regular power, regular running water, things like that. Like,
- 14:11there's certain more modern things that maybe you see in two thousand and three that
- 14:15may not like, for example, you would see no goddamn IMAX in there,
- 14:18right, because even if you have power for it is not connected to
- 14:20no internet, There is no inn as far as I know, there's no
- 14:24things that would make stuff of the two thousands era makes sense right there.
- 14:28So for me, I was like, wasn't really surprised at some of the
- 14:31eighties stuff making it in. And there's also a mall and that's all.
- 14:35I mean, it's nineties two, it is, but eighties is like that,
- 14:39you know, like every movie it takes place in the eighties in the
- 14:43mall. You know, like at some point in the mall a movie,
- 14:46they're going to the mall, you know, like in the eighties. So
- 14:48I think that it's I think it's a bit of both everything that we said
- 14:52right there. I think it's a bit of the writer's influence along with the
- 14:56characters influence and the writers thus influencing the character and being well, you know,
- 15:01I like the eighties, so you know, she gonna like the eighties
- 15:03two, right, yeah, And I like the walkman, so she's gonna
- 15:05have a walkman now, so you know that type of thing. And I
- 15:09thought it was funny, Ben because you talked about them being two thousands girls,
- 15:13and also they weren't two thousand girls, No, they were. They
- 15:16were because storm girls, storms not storm. Excuse me. Riley said that
- 15:20she was she was going to turn seventeen next month, quote unquote, which
- 15:24means she wasn't even alive when this ship and neither right, neither was is
- 15:30La because she's worth fifteen or whatever. So so um, but to that
- 15:35point, like I said, the stuff that they're that they're being taught is
- 15:37from people who were around in the two thousands, right, and so they
- 15:41would have that recollection. I assumingly that's the adults, like the true adults.
- 15:46Adults would have the recollection. And then um, but at the point
- 15:48I was trying to make the fact when they were looking through the pun book
- 15:52and they read the part about the screen shot, right the point where they
- 15:54were like, you know what, what is it? Why was a computer
- 15:58drunk? Because it had it took a screenshot? And they both said,
- 16:02well, I don't know what a screenshot is. And that's funny as fuck,
- 16:04right, like it's just from a timely perspective, from a weirded error
- 16:10perspective, like a weird our error perspective, Like it's just very interesting.
- 16:14So I don't know. And then yeah, I remember Facebook wasn't invented in
- 16:18this world, So that tells you, you know, what's Facebook out?
- 16:22No? Facebook was out? No, No, it wasn't someone someone did
- 16:26happen in two thousand. Oh, it wasn't out to colleges like that.
- 16:30No, not like that. That shit was a rap. I mean when
- 16:34I say colleges. I meant like widespread, like maybe only maybe only Marks
- 16:38College as somebody else had it. Yeah, maybe I think it debuted that
- 16:42yucks. Yeah college, oh wow yeah. And so you know my space
- 16:48was around m black Planet was it was there not for not for but not
- 16:59The city is an angel fire. Yes, none of that BBS or the
- 17:06or the or even before that, the bulletin board bb BBS, yeah,
- 17:15bulletin board system. Yeah, AOL ten three hours, you got mail three
- 17:23hours. You saying like stacks of the CDs, but you know that that
- 17:33does. But that's, like you said, I think it's also it's particularly
- 17:36the writer and I don't know again, I don't know if this is in
- 17:38the game, if all that eighties influences in the game. Right to your
- 17:42point, this is just what the because that's what the writers like. But
- 17:45it's like, for all that, why didn't they have like disc man,
- 17:48Like, that's what I'm saying. But then again, CDs can scratch that
- 17:51wild easy and wild easy, whereas I had presume a cassette, well last
- 17:56tape tape will survive unless like we gets cooked, you know, or too
- 18:00cold. But I'm like, I want to like it hasn't. There's like
- 18:03a like magnetic feels all over the plays, Like, I don't know,
- 18:06it's so many ways that shit could just go wrong with all like times of
- 18:10all types of like solid media, So I don't know. Yeah, no,
- 18:12all that should degrades, you know, and everything like that tape snap
- 18:15easily everything, you know, So but you can also repair whatever, you
- 18:21know. Yeah, Like I say, it's definitely an influence of everyone you
- 18:25know on this thing that made to what it was. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:29yeah, but I do agree with you, and I'll get into that later.
- 18:33I just wanted my last thing I wanted to say about the stuff I
- 18:34liked about that. So I like the concept that they want that date It
- 18:38was really a date, but that concept of the wonders of them all.
- 18:41Yeah, and like again, the idea of these mundane things just being so
- 18:48shockingly amazing and beautiful to and it was in many ways it was beautiful.
- 18:52But the existence of these things, the things that she's only read about in
- 18:57books or heard about from other people. She said, electric stairs and then
- 19:02rints, and then Riley laugh said escalator, you know what I mean.
- 19:06Like and the way Ellie was wilding out on the fucking escalator was so funny
- 19:11to me because it was just like that truly is like if you like,
- 19:14for someone who I've never seen that before, that is a wonder of you
- 19:18know, life life. It's just like, yo, this shit's moving by
- 19:21itself and I'm I'm on and I'm just that like I could get why she
- 19:25was so high. I remember as a kid, you know, as a
- 19:26little kid going to them all and being like, oh, look at that
- 19:30ship. You know, yeah, super come on. But I remember,
- 19:37like, you know, when I first saw a big as escalator and being
- 19:40like wow, or like or the first time I saw like the moving walkway,
- 19:44you know, and I'm like, oh shit, it's like the fucking
- 19:45Jetsons and some shit, you know, like this shit crazy. But now,
- 19:51like like it said, you see that now you're like whatever, you
- 19:56know what I mean, it ain't it ain't ship, but it's just that's
- 19:59what's the That's just part was about this episode. Yeah, that cute story
- 20:03and even for me, and like I've heard, I didn't notice, but
- 20:07I heard that some people on the internet were kind of upset about Bella Ramsey's
- 20:11casting or and or acting in the first few episodes. Yeah, and I
- 20:18didn't, you know, loving acting. That's what I don't know. You
- 20:22know, look, I think it's because they played the game, and you
- 20:25know, Ellie is different whatever. I'm not sure. I haven't played the
- 20:27game, so I don't get it. But I just love Bella's a lot
- 20:32of little little moments she's had throughout the series, Like I saw this online
- 20:37afterwards, and this is a rough moment. But like when Henry, you
- 20:38know, when they when he shoots himself, she doesn't scream like no or
- 20:44anything. It's just like this sort of like oh yeah, you know yeah,
- 20:48And it's just that's you know, that's an ill last choice as an
- 20:52actor to makee that and her reaction to the Arcade, because I like that.
- 20:59That is a magical Yes, as a kid who grew up like I
- 21:03mean, I was in love with Arcade, y'all, Like that was my
- 21:07life. Gambling for kids, Oh my god, And it sounds and chigs
- 21:15in your head, you know what I mean, like fully addicted, fam
- 21:18I want to found twenty dollars on the floor in the mall and immediately went
- 21:22to the Arcade and burned that ship down, Like you what I burned that.
- 21:29I didn't tell my parents nothing. I remember they were sending McDonalds.
- 21:32I was like, I found I saw that on the ground, like what
- 21:34I was like, yo, mom, I'll be spastic my golden ticket boy,
- 21:38like really fucking walk out here. And I like how they played Mortal
- 21:42Kombat. Riley played Melina. I told y'all about Mortal Kombat too. That
- 21:48to me is still like my favorite one. So when they actually showed it
- 21:52on this one and was like a second time, Mortal Koma came up because
- 21:57and it was Mortal Kombat too before and she told him about Molina the callback
- 22:04because her girlfriend was yeah, yeah, like like there's a lot of cold
- 22:12callbacks in this episode as well as the joyous ones, because remember this is
- 22:17the moment that she told Joel about when she's like, I've already done you
- 22:22know things. This is that moment her, you know, having the presumably
- 22:27end Riley is you know, I mean we clearly she's alive. Riley isn't
- 22:33you know, Riley ain't got the juice and her things like that, So
- 22:37um damn man, well let me let me finish off on a good note
- 22:41anyway, just again like these Wonders of the World. And then the que
- 22:47carousel ride and just like, like you said, the whole dragon, but
- 22:52the whole touching goal and you know, should I? Should I not kiss
- 22:56her? Type of thing like that. That was still a cute story.
- 22:59And she was like, oh, you know when when Riley was leaning on
- 23:02her that they would took the picture and Ellie was like, all right,
- 23:04you can get off of me now, you know. And Riley was just
- 23:07like, oh, you know, like she wanted to be closer to her,
- 23:08like all that tentative you know, I'll should that I'd be close to
- 23:12them? Should not notch and I touched him? Should I? Like?
- 23:15Should I put myself out there and be vulnerable? I thought that was really
- 23:17cute. I love when Ellie tells her to turn around when she's changing and
- 23:22she's like, you're still on that right and you can. And Ellie doesn't
- 23:26realize that Riley likes her in that way that you know she likes Riley and
- 23:32you know it's and also even if she did, she's probably just too nervous
- 23:34to be undressing in front of her because that is her crush, you know,
- 23:37Yeah, yeah, she's just too nervous. But like it's clear that
- 23:41they both liked each other. Yeah, in that way. It just didn't
- 23:45know how to go about and how to broach it, you know what I
- 23:47mean, Like you're you're a kid and you're having these feelings. It's like
- 23:49what do you do? How you know? Is it is the person gonna
- 23:52hate me for this or whatever? Like even when it happened, it was
- 23:55clear as a mutual kids. But even Ellie was like, I'm sorry,
- 23:57yeah, because she was like what if Riley isn't like that? You know,
- 24:02it's like she doesn't know, you know, and neither of them know
- 24:06at that point, they haven't openly distressed us. Obviously that's not something you
- 24:08would be openly distressing in this world. Obviously it's you know, in some
- 24:14ways it might be even more conservative than the world we live in now,
- 24:17because you know, I was like, shit's tight. I'm glad you said
- 24:19that, man, because I was actually wondering that, what do you it's
- 24:22more conservative less conservat because being that especially they're being so young and having a
- 24:29same sex relationship or trying to about to build one before it all went south.
- 24:34I was just like, I wonder how people are acting in this environment
- 24:37now, Like have they come to their senses and realize, Hey, that
- 24:40shit's like, you know, being irrelevant, biggert about it. It's irrelevant.
- 24:44It doesn't matter because we just trying to live. But we were truly
- 24:48even you didn't know we were trying to live before. Hey, we're just
- 24:51trying to live with you know what I'm saying. So I'm wondering at this
- 24:55point does that matter in this world I was, you know, And that's
- 24:59an interest question. I would I would assume that in a society like Fedra
- 25:03it does, because you know, fascism usually results in a lot of control,
- 25:11you know, to everything you know, So it depends on what the
- 25:15moral you know, like what moral code you know in quotation marks for those
- 25:19not watching is. But yeah, that would that's a very interesting question,
- 25:26and I'm not sure how that's explored in the game, you know, like
- 25:30people of you. Yeah, at one point that people have even talked about
- 25:33how you know, um Bill and Frank Um. They probably wouldn't even have
- 25:37gotten together in the real world if this hadn't happened, because Bill right is
- 25:42such a right wing person that he might not have ever connected with a man
- 25:48like Frank in that world. But because now it's the apocalypse and there ain't
- 25:53nobody else around. They can run into each other and just like yo,
- 25:59choices is limited, fam. I mean, it was clear from the from
- 26:03that first encounter that a Bill never had that opportunity ever because circles were far
- 26:10and few in between are very rare and the before times, I mean,
- 26:12so for him to be able to be have find a partner like that,
- 26:17it's crazy, you know what I'm saying. In this environment, Ye think
- 26:21of the circles bills running in. Don't tread on these circles, you think,
- 26:25Yeah, they ain't like homes like nah, bro, you know,
- 26:27or they're acting like they're not bear it is because they definitely with a bunch
- 26:32of men sitting around another circle, come on from not that circle. I
- 26:36mean, you know what happens nexts alleged? Please please? Yeah, I
- 26:38don't know, I just but but I did think about that, like,
- 26:42oh, I wonder if if that's you know, if it's everyone cares anymore,
- 26:47you know, and I would hope not, but you never know what
- 26:48fetra as you mentioned and all that stuff. I never know, um,
- 26:52and just people in general being assholes anyway. Yeah, Um, I can't
- 26:56get Nune. So why should you One of the things you did not like
- 27:03that, I mean, I did not like waiting for Riley to die because
- 27:11I knew it was coming. Wait. I do want to say one more
- 27:14thing that I did like that I actually loved and it's in my dislikes,
- 27:18but I loved this ship. The fact that motherfucker Ellie had a fifty minute
- 27:21flashback wadrolls there. It's like anime. Like it's just like anime where like
- 27:27the character like something like they're in the middle of like they probably get sliced
- 27:32the fuck open, but this just wilder to me. And then it pauses.
- 27:37It It just pauses in time, and then you have a twenty six
- 27:41minute long episode about that time when they was back in the Hot Springs,
- 27:45you know what I'm saying. And it's just like, wait a minute,
- 27:48Wait a minute. You can't be having on this thought process, you can.
- 27:55I thought that ship would be like, you know, two seconds or
- 27:57something this short. You remember the whole old fucking episode and then ran and
- 28:03got and then and then it didn't even have nothing to do with what she
- 28:07was thinking about. It wasn't like she went and got a tape that you
- 28:08know, they batched him up or something shit. She had this flashback,
- 28:12but then seconds then, I mean she had a fifty five minute long,
- 28:17fifty five minute flashback, and it had nothing to do with what she needed
- 28:21to do to save him. Were like, was like, was that like,
- 28:22oh, I'm not abandoning him, because it was it was about I
- 28:26did, and it was the overall arch of I'm not abandoning him or I'm
- 28:30not gonna let him die like I had to. And I don't even want
- 28:33to say let but you know what I'm saying, that's what I'm saying.
- 28:36I'm saying that I took it as losing someone she loves again listening and and
- 28:41and and how and how Joel Jesus Joel was like, bro, Like remember
- 28:48before she had her fifty five minute fastback. She Joel grabbed her hand and
- 28:51was like, wo go back to the north, to the you know,
- 28:55the King of the War, back to Castle Black and go meet up with
- 29:02my brother. Right, you are clearly John Snow and I'm clearly are you
- 29:06before the training family, Like come on, I'm herrire right. Yeah,
- 29:10well but but no, he was like, go back to the north.
- 29:12So you know my thing is and she thought about it. She thought about
- 29:15it, and that's what five minutes. Yes, that's a part of the
- 29:18black she thought about it. Okay, well it's like this. You know,
- 29:22I've been through all this adventure with you and and you know, all
- 29:25this life and tragging this and that, and then this is the end.
- 29:27This is how I go out. So that I took it like, yo,
- 29:30I already been through the story of someone that I love deeply, or
- 29:34whether she knows or not, she loves Joel, you know what I'm saying,
- 29:37Like someone I love deeply, like me just losing them, yeah,
- 29:41or me even having to take them out, and her saying make a decision,
- 29:44no, not this time. Yeah, because she look to me she
- 29:45wanted to say, she's me's like she wanted to say to go leave,
- 29:49and she was like, oh nah fuck that, I'm gonna try to save
- 29:52him. Yeah, that episode was pretty good. Nah, I gotta come
- 29:55back and save him. I'm saying, like she saw the whole joint,
- 30:03like no commercials yo, not a buffer, insight, nothing, no pause,
- 30:11they didn't come back to her nothing. It was like, holy fifty
- 30:15five minutes. So I actually really enjoyed that. It was hilarious to me,
- 30:19and especially now I know that happens like all the time in anime because
- 30:22I'm used to like the martial arts where they do that. They would do
- 30:26that in martial arts movies a lot too as well. I dude about to
- 30:27get his head bustled? Are you about to get chopped? The fun down?
- 30:30And then you get a thirty five minute ex position on why butterflies are
- 30:36the key to life, and it's like all right, now I'm ready.
- 30:37It's like, wait a minute. I like the ones in the karate movies
- 30:41where they are about to get bust open, and then they would come back
- 30:44to show you how to dude to train to bust you open, and then
- 30:49and then when they done back to like by yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 30:53it's like, Okay, that's why he's so powerful. Yeah, that's that's
- 30:57why one bunch man worked like that, because he's been doing pushups every day,
- 31:02honey, every single Yeah. I think the only thing I did not
- 31:06like was just how I did. Teenagers aren't annoying and to me, like
- 31:10just doing wild, reckless shit and like every time and again that undercurrent of
- 31:15danger. For me, I was just like, why the fuck are y'all
- 31:17jumping on the goddamn countertop. It's made a glass. You could fall through
- 31:22and cut your shit up. That's all I kept thinking of. And I
- 31:23guess that's me like like acting like a mom at that point. But I
- 31:26was just like, y'all hurt yourselves. Why the fuck y'all being so like
- 31:30like when they and you know, I have my headphones on so everything and
- 31:33I have you know, these are my podcast headphones, so this is real
- 31:36good sound quality. And when they first went into the mall and they jumped
- 31:38down on top of the fucking metal box, I was yelling. I said,
- 31:41what the fuck is y'all problem? It's too goddamn loud. Get the
- 31:45fuck off my lawn. I was just fucking screaming like an old man yells
- 31:49at cloud Like. I was just like, y'all too loud, y'all,
- 31:52don't give a shit about y'all safety. Meanwhile, they just on a goddamn
- 31:56date. Well, do remember that, you know he was in their crafting
- 32:00bombs, so Jordi is obviously she'd been in and out of that bit,
- 32:04right. So once I saw that she lived it, I thought it was
- 32:07just some like, you know, she found some cool shit, and was
- 32:08like, I don't even say my girlfriend here, nah, like that's her
- 32:13house, and she was just letting her know, hey, you know,
- 32:15I was setting it up for you in here. And once again though,
- 32:19like why would you not clean that whole out? Like she thought she didn't.
- 32:24She just didn't want to go very much of a mistake. So that's
- 32:29the only thing, you know, And and just the dragging of things,
- 32:31you know, I'm just like, all right, y'all, can y'all just
- 32:34kiss and let's be done with it, like come on, come on,
- 32:37come on, come on, come on. But I mean, yeah,
- 32:45you're right. At first I was hating on this episode, but a lot
- 32:47of really safe. I thought it was cute. Yeah, I can't hate,
- 32:51like when they put the mashstorm because I was like, oh, they
- 32:53put the mashstorm and now they can really beat themselves. Oh yeah, some
- 33:00stuff like that. I was like, oh, this is ray cute,
- 33:02you know, and Storm sells it so well and Bella sells it so well.
- 33:06Yeah. Yeah, like they're innocence, you know, everything about it.
- 33:09They were. So that was the part when I said, well that's
- 33:12really what it was. When I said teenagers are annoying and I just remembered
- 33:15the reasoning. I was like, because the snarky is like how they both
- 33:17speak to each other's snark snark snark star start snark snark stars. And I'm
- 33:22like, Nigga, can y'all just speak fucking English and tell you each other
- 33:24and love each other and kiss each other and be done, Like, just
- 33:28tell the truth, tell the truth. But it's like, Yo, they're
- 33:30young, they're they're trying to get there, and they're trying time to get
- 33:32there so much time. People don't tell the truth when they're ff and grown,
- 33:37Like, come on, now, that's facts, that's facts, you
- 33:38know. Yeah, you all joke joke joke snark snark snarking. I'm like,
- 33:43yep, nigga, y'all are in love with each other, right right,
- 33:47Star Stark. So so what happens next? Man? Like you said?
- 33:52After after the the exsistential flashback, she runs up. She finds some
- 33:57needle and thread and start sewing, sewing Joel back up, sitting there standing
- 34:02in there like it was fair the ship like Joe Diet and she's just sitting
- 34:06there like having a flash man for fifty. So she sews Joel back up
- 34:12presumably Joe will be okay enough to at least get to the next spot.
- 34:15Wait to have a question, how the fuck did she learn the fatalities fail?
- 34:20How oh they were they were playing for a good long time, at
- 34:22least an hour that no, no, she no, no, no,
- 34:24she knew how been before? How Riley body lives there, she's been playing
- 34:30with it. Anyone figure out them without like I guess, oh, man,
- 34:34it's just playing. It's just It's just And also I think on a
- 34:37lot of the old Arcid cabinets a lot of times they have like the legend
- 34:40on the corner that shows you, like the different move sets, like I
- 34:44know street Fighter cabinets they would have that. Yeah, like how to do?
- 34:47They never have fatality. That's like even when those games were out,
- 34:52I used to wonder how the people were finding these things. Doctor. People
- 34:53would tell me, oh, you'll find well no online this before it was
- 34:59like people then gaming magazines, Yeah, gaming magazines definitely, yes, but
- 35:04like people just know them since you know, they won that ship was out,
- 35:07But that's what they was reading the magazines letting up to it. And
- 35:09also it's like what you're saying is also them duce with me there and playing
- 35:14for hours until they figured it out one way or together, you know,
- 35:16tap that forward and it's all patterns like find it the first time, then
- 35:21you know how to initiate it and like you know, up up, down
- 35:24down, then it's punch or up down down, then it's kick and then
- 35:28they all do something different, right, So yeah, so eventually you're going
- 35:30to figure it out and when you got unlimited quarters, you're gonna sit there.
- 35:32Yeah fuck yeah yeah yeah yeah, but I just I like that.
- 35:36I thought it was thought It was cute day the whole. Yeah, it
- 35:40was very thoughtful. It was thoughtful that Okay, moment was so good for
- 35:45me, like when she like like her acting when she was like this the
- 35:47most beautiful thing I've ever seen was because I just, like I said,
- 35:51I felt that. Yeah yeah yeah, So Ben back to my my my
- 35:54statement is Joel making it. He's he's trying to patch this man up,
- 35:59right obviously, how long though, is it he's gonna get sept sept what
- 36:01was it? Septis septic septic yeaceptic poisoning and something like that. Yeah,
- 36:07like you on the medicasion and all this other stuff, Joel makes it to
- 36:12next season, like wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, Like
- 36:17I know that Joel does not make it through all. You know, it
- 36:22ain't the last of us for Joel, you know, I know that.
- 36:24You know, I know it's about Ellie overall. I don't know when it
- 36:28happens for Joel, but I know the joy with us forever. And you
- 36:32know what a twist would be Joel make not making it at some point before
- 36:37people from the game, like two episodes before the end of this season,
- 36:42because there's only two episodes last this is episode. Oh but the classic HBO
- 36:45move is to murder you know, the big character in the one before and
- 36:47then set up the next season. That used to be their classic move.
- 36:52So you know, like this, the next episode would be the like Game
- 36:55of Throne, Sopranos despect all them would always do. That would be the
- 36:59wire. It's like the episode before the last episode. Yeah, that's the
- 37:04big one, and then the finale is just setting you up, you know,
- 37:07recovering from that and then setting you up for the next season. Ye.
- 37:12So uh that's not insecure ended. Yeah, Joel's not dying in this
- 37:16episode. Have you already already took his bad one? You know it had
- 37:21to be take the bad one and die right there. It's not like,
- 37:22but but what are we seeing next? We saw Joel, like we saw
- 37:25that the lone tier come out of his eyes and he's finally like, Yo,
- 37:30this is my this is my new daughter. And Karnate I don't know,
- 37:31like, yeah, where is he? I mean he's been there,
- 37:34he's been in, you know, like he's been accepted that he loves this
- 37:38girl. You know, they're like closer to each other I think now than
- 37:45they ever have been, because it's been at least four months now. Yeah,
- 37:49and they're closer to each other on their respective path because they've definitely been
- 37:54like wavering. You know, it's like Ellie gets too hard, Joel gets
- 38:00too hard. You know, Joel gets too solved, Ellie gets too hard.
- 38:02You know. Whatever, however, it's gone. But I think both
- 38:05of them are reaching a happy medium now where they're both accepting that love is
- 38:09something that can still happen in this world, et cetera. Yeah, Okay,
- 38:15cool, Yeah, I think that's I think that's been an interesting journey,
- 38:17you know, especially as far as writing, because I didn't expect that.
- 38:20I expected them to be like two trains crossing in the midst and never
- 38:24see each other again? You know? Yeah that two ships, not two
- 38:30trains. There two trains, you know that? Jesus? Okay? So
- 38:37uh what else? Anything else you wanted to say about this episode? Or
- 38:42did you think we covered everything? Hmm, let's see anything else to say
- 38:46about this episode? I mean not much? Right, this feels kind of
- 38:52short this week. But I guess that's about it because I don't really have
- 38:57much more to say. It was. You know, it's a very cute
- 38:59little flashback story. Well done. Um whatever happened to Like, I guess
- 39:06we never find out what happened to Shorty who you know she bust that jaw
- 39:08on earlier an episode, you know the eye Jamie who Shorty gave it the
- 39:14eye Jamie from like, oh yeah wait what Shorty the shorty who's stole away?
- 39:21Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah yeah she probably did. Who Well,
- 39:24dude, you know my man was talking Quan was talking about her, like
- 39:28and shit is kind of an asshole? Man? Come on, that is
- 39:31a realist qualms, Like look, that's why he damn you think Storm is
- 39:35ship guard? That that's what you think of Storm? Fam you think of
- 39:38Riley? No, I just you guard the ship. Listen. Whether he's
- 39:43an asshoe or not, I don't think it matters. It's he's a realist
- 39:46as far as that little piece I could tell. And I don't know if
- 39:50he's in charge. Was he in charge of the assignments or was it just
- 39:52that for you know, I don't think so. Fam Farm was over there
- 39:59like, yo, make these choices. I got you, shorty, I'm
- 40:01gonna make you an officer over here. He's gonna be like me. Well,
- 40:05that's also watched Riley was like when when when Ellie was like, we
- 40:08could be in charge, while he was like, no, you can be
- 40:10in you know they don't you think it's a white coalanzastion. I'm not saying
- 40:17that changes the same thing. I'm just saying, like, okay, man,
- 40:22I really don't want to think racism survived in this apocalypse once again?
- 40:25Is that the you can't roaches and racism. Look, the thing is because
- 40:30racism would not have had to survive, you know, because it would have
- 40:35been there, Like why would it have grown away? People would have been
- 40:37racist and they would have been a lot. Right. So for the same
- 40:40time, I feel like bigotry against people who who die hard it's not.
- 40:47It's inconsequential me be it's to the fact that this other thing is infected.
- 40:54Fam the same people who would get that right now would get that. Then
- 40:59that's the problems it would you know, it wouldn't change it because if you
- 41:02were that racist, you'd be like fuck it. Because right now you can
- 41:05die from anything. It don't matter that it doesn't affect it out there.
- 41:07You can just take an hell from anything. But people are still raid.
- 41:10But it's not, I mean, and it's so funny because technically it is
- 41:13always immediate danger, but notlge it's this immediate danger. It's it's just like
- 41:17this, but people don't people don't want you mean, the last of us
- 41:23is right now where we live is really just like the last of us.
- 41:27No, no, it's not just like the last of us. That's not
- 41:30it doesn't have to be. But at the same time, people die every
- 41:32day, be you know, and it doesn't matter. You know, people
- 41:37are still racist every day. Be that. You know, that changes nothing,
- 41:44you know, And in some places of the war of the world right
- 41:46now it's worse than anything the last of last of us and people are racist
- 41:52and everything else there too, you know, because some parts of the world
- 41:57right now are living on the constant bombing and war and death, everything,
- 42:00famine, all kinds of shit, and people are still terrible there, you
- 42:04know, Yeah it is. It is pretty sad. It's trying to you
- 42:07know, disheartening. That's why I also enjoyed the hopefulness of it of this
- 42:13episode to see you know, black girl or a white girl you know,
- 42:16living out there love. You know, it's best they can in the midst
- 42:20of all this. And then you know why, I'm I mean, so
- 42:27more heartache and heartbreak coming. This is was this what I predict for the
- 42:30last two episodes, the red of the season, and of course, as
- 42:34we know, season two is how already has already been green lent, so
- 42:37we'll get to see or get some type of insight hopefully about what that's gonna
- 42:40be all like and yeah, sad times. Yeah. I have to say
- 42:45though, like when I finished this episode once again, I was like,
- 42:49yeah, I'm sick of this show. Was it okay? Okay? But
- 42:53after reviewing it with you, because I enjoyed doing this show so much,
- 42:57I'm like, oh, you know, I'll do another episode. You know,
- 43:00It's like I think I'm softening you from like just being annoyed about it.
- 43:06I think the show is very well done. But once again, it's
- 43:08I just haven't seen I don't want to say anything I haven't seen before,
- 43:15even though a lot of it I really haven't seen I have seen before,
- 43:16so not really much new about it. It's more so that it's like in
- 43:21this day and age, I really avoid a lot of entertainment that I feel,
- 43:28yeah, depressing or just doesn't do anything for me. I'm not really
- 43:30like being enlightened or even learning a different cultural viewpoint or anything like that,
- 43:37you know, or it does or even so, like I just like more
- 43:40things to make, you know, energize me and make me feel like,
- 43:46yeah, that's the way things should go, you know. And well,
- 43:51but it's nothing else been the Bill and Frank episode. Nothing compared to that,
- 43:55Like, but this series, nothing but this series. Nothing for the
- 44:00series, it's one of the best. Yeah, it's one of the It's
- 44:01one of the best episodes of television I've seen this year. I mean it's
- 44:05been a you know, a very short year, but it's also one of
- 44:07the best episodes of television I think I'll see all year. And I really
- 44:09enjoyed this episode as well. Overall, it's funny. I really came around
- 44:14as we reviewed it because I'm like all that cuteness, because cuteness and hope
- 44:17and life is something that I think we don't see enough of in television,
- 44:21you know, in general. So that really, you know, something that
- 44:23I really like to see is like love and being expressed and people being in
- 44:28love and seeing that on screen. I just don't think we see enough of.
- 44:32So that was really nice. Yeah, no, I really, you
- 44:37know, I think love will save the world, you know, and so
- 44:38absolutely I think it needs to be seen more often. Yeah. Man,
