- 0:50Speaker 1: screening of My Cup Is Full, which is out right
- 0:52Speaker 1: now guys on YouTube check it out. I was fortunate
- 0:55Speaker 1: enough to watch it, and then I walked up on
- 0:57Speaker 1: him and he was like, who are you. You ain't gonna
- 1:00Speaker 1: shoot in a couple of days. Don't forget about me.

- 1:08Speaker 1: Cook, so yes and Before I ask you about the dish,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I just want to tell you guys about my cup

- 1:18Speaker 1: just just amazing talent from the second I saw you,
- 1:21Speaker 1: So just to kind of give you guys what you
- 1:22Speaker 1: can look forward to. It's just one hundred percent relatable
- 1:27Speaker 1: with a lot of humor.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I'm appreciate it.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So yeah, but now we get to get into this dish,
- 1:33Speaker 1: which I'm really also excited about because we've never had
- 1:35Speaker 1: it on the show and it's over. We've done over
- 1:37Speaker 1: like one hundred and forty episodes, so that's a huge deal.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So why don't you tell me what you're gonna be
- 1:44Speaker 1: cooking for me today?
- 1:45Speaker 2: Hey, today I'm cooking you one of my favorites. Man's
- 1:47Speaker 2: called chicken egg rolls. You know, I started cooking chicken
- 1:49Speaker 2: egg rolls because it helped me. I think cooking helps
- 1:51Speaker 2: me with like anxiety. Now that's what my special thoughts about,
- 1:54Speaker 2: like dealing with a bunch of stuff and cooking is
- 1:55Speaker 2: like very therapeutic for me. I mean I can put
- 1:58Speaker 2: on some music, you know what I mean, make it
- 2:01Speaker 2: look like I'm a real chef. I like watching cooking
- 2:02Speaker 2: shows online YouTube TikTok. My algorithm is stand up cooking
- 2:07Speaker 2: and animals eating other animals. That's my stuff. Yeah I didn't.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That's that's my that's my that's my that's my stuff
- 2:13Speaker 2: right there.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Do you watch like the little Instagram reels of the
- 2:16Speaker 1: lake when they do the dishes and all that.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Absolutely, I follow a bunch of chefs. I'm in their
- 2:21Speaker 2: d m's like, yo, bro, what so how you make
- 2:22Speaker 2: that sauce?
- 2:23Speaker 1: For real?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Absolutely?
- 2:24Speaker 1: Do they actually respond and.
- 2:26Speaker 2: They love that? Then they start checking out my stand
- 2:28Speaker 2: up like, bro, you funny. I appreciate that. In the
- 2:30Speaker 2: backs to me loaf, you know what I mean? I
- 2:33Speaker 2: love I love cooking man.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And then I'm curious, so you said it's very therapeutic.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So like, if you're having a bad day, you get
- 2:40Speaker 1: some bad news, do you hit the grocery store and say,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know what I'm gonna Do you really do that? Wow?
- 2:45Speaker 2: Like most people like comfort food. I'm like, let's go,
- 2:47Speaker 2: let's go to the grocery store. I got you. I
- 2:49Speaker 2: love that. Absolutely, I'll make some. If it's a summertime,
- 2:52Speaker 2: people know, I invite people over it, just cook ribs.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I'll cook chicken, you know what I mean, turkey legs,
- 2:57Speaker 2: you know, put some pineapple in the grills. Bight at
- 2:59Speaker 2: the end, it'd be like a dessert. I loved. I
- 3:01Speaker 2: love to cook man and chicken egg rolls is cool
- 3:03Speaker 2: because it can really take you about thirty minutes.
- 3:05Speaker 1: So have any of your friends discovered this Achilles hill
- 3:08Speaker 1: and just said, you know what, Today, I'm gonna call
- 3:10Speaker 1: him up listen, and I'm gonna get in his head
- 3:13Speaker 1: and then I'm gonna go.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Over for me at my boy j snow shout out
- 3:17Speaker 2: to Jay snow Man. He told me, he said, now,
- 3:19Speaker 2: I love when you're going through stuff. He said, whenever
- 3:22Speaker 2: you going through stuff. I just had to the grocery store.
- 3:24Speaker 2: He come over and I cook, and.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I like, you know, oh, he literally shows up with.
- 3:27Speaker 2: The literally He's like what I said, Man, I need
- 3:28Speaker 2: to talk today. Go to the grocery store and I'll
- 3:31Speaker 2: be like, yeah, okay, can cook wings y.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah that's gonna be me. If I can maneuver this
- 3:37Speaker 1: past episode, I'm gonna be like, yo, I dropped off
- 3:40Speaker 1: my kid today. Check in you're having a bad day.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I could come home and my kid could have it.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I was thinking about opening up like you know, I
- 3:49Speaker 2: found out online you can like open up an Uber
- 3:51Speaker 2: eat from your kitchen, from your house. No way will
- 3:54Speaker 2: they come grab your food, like you can have an
- 3:55Speaker 2: uber driver downstairs and do it like that. I just
- 3:57Speaker 2: gotta get like a license because I want to open
- 3:59Speaker 2: up a egg roll and wings spot serve.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I love eggirls. I love them. You know what I
- 4:04Speaker 1: was randomly thinking too when we were shopping for the
- 4:07Speaker 1: groceries today, I was like, I wonder if he ever
- 4:09Speaker 1: puts cream cheese in his eggrol.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Listen, don't play with me.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Listen, yes, that would add like extra Ooh.
- 4:15Speaker 2: It's a place in Texas, man called I don't want
- 4:17Speaker 2: to mess up their name, but they got what's called
- 4:19Speaker 2: Texas Twinkie. So it's a valapeno pepper, right, that's following me,
- 4:23Speaker 2: a valapeno pepper right, wrapped in bacon, right, But it's
- 4:27Speaker 2: stuff with cream cheese and brisket, and then they put
- 4:30Speaker 2: barbecue sauce on and they slow cook it. Let me
- 4:31Speaker 2: tell you something. They know me by name. They know
- 4:35Speaker 2: me by name. Texas Friscos. They got in two locations.
- 4:38Speaker 2: They got in like an outside of Fort Worth and
- 4:39Speaker 2: they got it in Frisco, Texas. Oh my goodness, that
- 4:44Speaker 2: right there. That's my next thing to learn, because you
- 4:46Speaker 2: got to get a real good grill to cook the
- 4:48Speaker 2: pepper on for smoke. Smoke.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You know, I have a smoker that's been sitting in
- 4:53Speaker 1: my garage, brand new in the box. Bought all the
- 4:55Speaker 1: coals and everything, because I don't know how to put
- 4:58Speaker 1: it together. Because I'm the type I put together a
- 5:00Speaker 1: bed it falls apart that day, like you're honestly, but
- 5:05Speaker 1: I'd be happy to donate my smoker to you with
- 5:08Speaker 1: all the I'm dead serious because I got it.
- 5:11Speaker 2: My camera stopped playing with me as I'm massage this chickens.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Stop playing with me.
- 5:15Speaker 1: But in ingreeance that go ahead. You owe me smoked
- 5:21Speaker 1: like I get dips on like some of the smoked goods.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Absolutely, I'm gonna smoke ox tails in there. I'm gonna
- 5:26Speaker 2: smoke ribs in there. I'm gonna smoke chicken wings in there.
- 5:29Speaker 2: It's turkey legs in there, a smoke of your best friends.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Like, I'm dead serious. I'm gonna hold you to this
- 5:34Speaker 1: promise because it's been sitting in my garage just taking
- 5:37Speaker 1: up space and I can't put it together, and I
- 5:40Speaker 1: can't eat red meat anymore, so oh really yes, but
- 5:43Speaker 1: but the turkey legs and anymore. I mean, I still
- 5:47Speaker 1: will risk it on a good day because I love
- 5:49Speaker 1: ox tail. So maybe for some of your dishes, I'll
- 5:51Speaker 1: say forget, you know, but that's our trade off, are we?
- 5:55Speaker 2: Is that a deal?
- 5:58Speaker 1: Okay? Cool? All right? So now, oh we got the
- 6:00Speaker 1: smoker thing happening. Now you've been working away, tell us
- 6:04Speaker 1: what you've been doing in the kitchen so we can
- 6:05Speaker 1: know how to make this dish at home.
- 6:06Speaker 2: The words, I just like to season my peppers first,
- 6:08Speaker 2: and like get them going with some butter, some garlic
- 6:10Speaker 2: and no wait wait.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Wait, go through all the ingredients, sik.
- 6:13Speaker 2: The words I like to season. I like chopped my peppers,
- 6:15Speaker 2: so chopped yellow peppers, chopped red peppers. Put some butter
- 6:17Speaker 2: in here. I like to put garlic powder. I put
- 6:19Speaker 2: some onion powder. I don't put too much like salt
- 6:21Speaker 2: in here, just because we're gonna have some salt in
- 6:23Speaker 2: our meat, so I don't want to put too much salt.
- 6:25Speaker 2: So it's just like an onion powder, garlic powder, some pepper,
- 6:28Speaker 2: with some butter. And if you want to get a
- 6:29Speaker 2: little fancy. I'll be throwing winter here just because it
- 6:31Speaker 2: looked cool on TV. So I throw like a little
- 6:33Speaker 2: slash of water here, a red or white on hare
- 6:35Speaker 2: and then mix it in here. We want to kind
- 6:37Speaker 2: of see this down. And when that's done, we're gonna
- 6:39Speaker 2: put in the bowl. Then were gonna prepare our chicken
- 6:40Speaker 2: while the grease is still getting hot. Now the chicken's
- 6:42Speaker 2: been seasoned.
- 6:43Speaker 1: When did you season the chicken? Wet?
- 6:45Speaker 2: We got garlic powder right here, we got pepper, we
- 6:48Speaker 2: got lemon pepper here, and we got onion powder and
- 6:50Speaker 2: we got pepper right and then booming, as this is
- 6:53Speaker 2: season we're waiting for that heat up. We can kind
- 6:54Speaker 2: of start our sauce, okay right, And then for the sauce,
- 6:57Speaker 2: I like to use ketchup right here. Boom, alright, we'll
- 7:00Speaker 2: take some ketchup, put it in here like this, boom boom,
- 7:03Speaker 2: boomom right cause we cooking a small bash wold just
- 7:06Speaker 2: use that when I used Jon mustard.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Okay right, and is there a reason why it was Jon?
- 7:10Speaker 2: Cause it's a little tinier. I got a little bite
- 7:12Speaker 2: to it, okay, right for your sauce, okay, uh boom.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And then you wanna put some hot sauce, okay, right,
- 7:17Speaker 2: that's like for a kick. Now do you like spicy food?
- 7:21Speaker 1: Not really?
- 7:21Speaker 2: Okay, boom, you wanna put like some hot sauce. And
- 7:25Speaker 2: if you don't like a lot of spice, you know
- 7:27Speaker 2: what you could do is cut this with honey. Right.
- 7:30Speaker 2: So if you put it in there and it's like
- 7:31Speaker 2: too spicy, that's fine. You just put some honey in
- 7:33Speaker 2: there and make that in there and contact the steam away.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Oh my god, you know your stuff.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so then I still season it right here, right,
- 7:41Speaker 2: so a little garley powder, right, okay, still a little pepper.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I hope you make a hundred of these yea, all
- 7:48Speaker 1: of this all over again.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Boom. And then you wanna put a regular.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Sauce okay, and this is the dipping sauce.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Yes, ma'am. And then we got onion powdered. I kind
- 7:57Speaker 2: of season like a meat most Boom. Now we kind
- 8:01Speaker 2: of start this up here. We'll can use this round
- 8:04Speaker 2: right here. You get a little color to it because
- 8:08Speaker 2: of the mustard. Oh it looks fancy, yeah, okay, And
- 8:11Speaker 2: then what you could do, you know what they do
- 8:13Speaker 2: make it a little fancy. You could drip this on
- 8:14Speaker 2: the egg row like a little line, or if you
- 8:17Speaker 2: just like to put it on a dish and kind
- 8:19Speaker 2: of like smear it all for presentation, you know what
- 8:21Speaker 2: I mean.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I like that.
- 8:22Speaker 2: You want to get fancy, you know you can get
- 8:24Speaker 2: you some partially chop it up booming over the egg row,
- 8:27Speaker 2: over the sauce type jazz, you know what I mean.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna fit down in like two seconds, so I
- 8:31Speaker 1: don't do that. There's a guy involved, what you say?
- 8:35Speaker 1: You know, when there's a guy going over, you're like,
- 8:37Speaker 1: let me make it all presentation. I'm trying to sell
- 8:39Speaker 1: the whole package, you know. But if it's just me at.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Home, Yeah, don't be afraid to see your vestibles either.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Then what'd you say, gonna be afraid of season your
- 8:48Speaker 2: vestables over here? Yeah?
- 8:50Speaker 1: I mean, little gar But you're not gonna mix the
- 8:53Speaker 1: meat with the vegetables.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Absolutely not. This is going to go in a separate bowl.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Okay, Oh you may need another bone.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't make a work wash. This is gonna
- 9:00Speaker 2: go here. Okay, right, this is gonna go here.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Okay, I'll see you.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Because we're gonna because this is gonna go into our
- 9:06Speaker 2: egg roll and fry. We kind of cook this down.
- 9:09Speaker 2: That's fine, right, boom now, and you just.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Don't want the peppers, like too crunchy or.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Something, right, I just kind of want to separate. I'll
- 9:16Speaker 2: put the chicken in, cook it down, and then I
- 9:17Speaker 2: put the well, I'll put this down first, put the
- 9:19Speaker 2: chicken in, and then when I mix them, when I
- 9:21Speaker 2: fry them, I put them in together.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm excited.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah. So then right now, boom a little bit more butter,
- 9:26Speaker 2: because now we're goin to put the chicken in. Boom.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Okay, I like that you cook the butter and chicken.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Just a sidebar. How much butter do you go through?
- 9:33Speaker 1: That's how I really test if you could cook.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I use a lot of butter, right, That's what my
- 9:37Speaker 2: flavor is now. I use like no salt butter a
- 9:39Speaker 2: lot sometimes, you know. I mean that's people with my
- 9:41Speaker 2: hot blood pressure. You. I mean you could put real butter,
- 9:43Speaker 2: that's fine, but no salt butter is on you still
- 9:44Speaker 2: see in your vegetables. I feel like you should be straight. Okay,
- 9:47Speaker 2: so then boom, chicken down, chicken in the pan? Right
- 9:49Speaker 2: there you go. We already cut our chicken daghs. Because
- 9:53Speaker 2: we're doing egg rolls. I like to cut them kind
- 9:55Speaker 2: of you know small. Okay, we're not doing chicken tender,
- 9:58Speaker 2: so it's not no necessary for them to be real big.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That way, when you put them in their egg grow
- 10:02Speaker 2: their fine right m boom boom. Here's where you know.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I'm gonna use more of my butter right because I
- 10:09Speaker 2: like my I like it to have flavor.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I like to be juicy. Yeah, you use a lot
- 10:13Speaker 1: of garlic too, Yeah.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Like little garlic can hear and boom boone? Now where
- 10:18Speaker 2: is my butter right here?
- 10:21Speaker 1: I'm a butter freak. I go through like I buy
- 10:24Speaker 1: the Costco, but I do salted.
- 10:26Speaker 2: You see it in your butter too.
- 10:27Speaker 1: No, because I do salted.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Okay, better, little garlic powder on my butter for tom
- 10:31Speaker 2: what Yeah, he gives you butter a little flavor.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Okay, I'm learning. Did you put lemon pepper in the
- 10:41Speaker 1: chicken too?
- 10:41Speaker 2: Yes? Oh that's only where you salt is in the
- 10:44Speaker 2: chicken with no salt. No salt in this right here,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and no salt on the butter, just garlic powder.
- 10:50Speaker 1: That way you don't come off too salty, okay, Okay,
- 10:52Speaker 1: And you know that's salted.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Right garda potter butter. Oh yeah, that's fine.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Okay, okay cool, all right, So now you're cooking the chicken.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, let this get a good see man, listen, if
- 11:02Speaker 2: you want a hervey, you can cook you can, you know,
- 11:04Speaker 2: put this in this Just let it brown and put
- 11:06Speaker 2: it in the oven like on three fifty four hundred.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Let the cook faster because you're in the fry it.
- 11:09Speaker 2: But right here we're gonna grill it. This fine and
- 11:11Speaker 2: grease is. I can feel it being warm, so that's
- 11:13Speaker 2: gonna be perfect. So this is done.
- 11:15Speaker 1: How do you test your grease to you?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Absolutely? I put a pepper in there, peper a pepper
- 11:19Speaker 2: or like some powder.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Oh okay, yeah, my mom used to.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Throw something in there boom boone is sizz a little
- 11:26Speaker 2: like a little piece of garlic whatever to have you
- 11:29Speaker 2: bone boon and should cook up good?
- 11:31Speaker 1: All right?
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 11:32Speaker 1: Well yes, okay you good. Now now we can get
- 11:38Speaker 1: into Take me back to what was going on during
- 11:40Speaker 1: this moment in time.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, dog, when I learned how to really well just
- 11:45Speaker 2: really I guess tapped into cooking. I was going through
- 11:48Speaker 2: it lout, you know what I mean, Like my my
- 11:50Speaker 2: I mean, my brother died like twenty seventeen. That's my
- 11:53Speaker 2: best friend at boone, I see, and then like you
- 11:55Speaker 2: know what I mean, went through divorce and then my
- 11:56Speaker 2: mom got cancer twice. So it's like, mmm, then all
- 11:59Speaker 2: these motion I needed something like I ain't gonna go
- 12:01Speaker 2: fight or go like just all this emotion. So it's like,
- 12:04Speaker 2: what could I do? So cooking and therapeutic, chopping it
- 12:07Speaker 2: up the vegetables, seasoning enough stuff, looking at different recipes
- 12:11Speaker 2: I can get online, putting that into like a form
- 12:14Speaker 2: of therapy, like cooking you know what I mean, being
- 12:16Speaker 2: detailed in it, right, because I put my brain off
- 12:18Speaker 2: that and now I'm focused on just cooking.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, Now did you do any type of therapy
- 12:23Speaker 1: going through all that early on?
- 12:25Speaker 2: Absolutely? In the beginning. You know, I was probably like
- 12:28Speaker 2: most people who never been in any form of therapy,
- 12:31Speaker 2: like skeptical, and my first one didn't go well. You know,
- 12:34Speaker 2: God is good man. I've been doing well in stand up,
- 12:36Speaker 2: but I had a therapist in midway through We're talking
- 12:38Speaker 2: about my brother dying, and like what it meant to me?
- 12:40Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I had opened up so much.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I was crying in the session, and as I was crying,
- 12:45Speaker 2: he was like, wait a minute, he said, you do
- 12:47Speaker 2: stand up? I said, yeah, he did. I seen you
- 12:49Speaker 2: at the Arlington improvlem Man, you're hilarious. I closed the
- 12:52Speaker 2: laptop so damn fast because I felt like I was
- 12:55Speaker 2: being it was intrusive, like what I mean, So I
- 12:57Speaker 2: stopped going and I got like an old black lady
- 12:59Speaker 2: and she came of life.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah. Do you talk about her? Does
- 13:04Speaker 1: she's still your therapist?
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah? She is? She is. Yeah, she's really dope, man. Like.
- 13:08Speaker 2: She kind of helped me just understand certain things, you
- 13:11Speaker 2: know what I mean. She kind of emphasized what the
- 13:12Speaker 2: doctor told me one time, like you can't just manifest
- 13:14Speaker 2: the stroke sitting. You can't just get hyping you're finna
- 13:17Speaker 2: have a stroke. That's not how it happens. Because my
- 13:19Speaker 2: brother had a stroke. So my mom, my brother had
- 13:21Speaker 2: a stroke. My brother died at forty two, right, I
- 13:23Speaker 2: just turned forty three. I was like, something going to
- 13:25Speaker 2: happen to me my dad? Did my mom got cancer?
- 13:28Speaker 1: You know, it's like, did your dad passed from a
- 13:30Speaker 1: stroke or something?
- 13:31Speaker 2: He was older. He died in seventy eight, but he
- 13:32Speaker 2: had cancer, but it was like he had it like
- 13:34Speaker 2: for like it literally four days he found out he died,
- 13:36Speaker 2: but he was seventy eight, so I could digest that,
- 13:38Speaker 2: just miss him. Yeah, my brother died, you know, he
- 13:40Speaker 2: had a stroke in twenty eleven, you know, twenty ten.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Excuse me, he passed in twenty seventeen. Yeah, And so
- 13:48Speaker 2: that was kind of hard to deal with, just because
- 13:49Speaker 2: I never thought. I knew he had a stroke, but
- 13:51Speaker 2: I thought he would be fine, and him not being
- 13:53Speaker 2: fine kind of like really affected me.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Why did you think he would be fine after the stroke?
- 13:57Speaker 2: Well, I knew to stroke, so that was my first
- 13:59Speaker 2: time in my family dealing with one. So you know,
- 14:02Speaker 2: he had lost a bunch away. He was straight ten
- 14:03Speaker 2: and he got down.
- 14:04Speaker 1: With like two sixty after the stroke.
- 14:07Speaker 2: After the stroke, and he had learned like therapy, his
- 14:09Speaker 2: speech was getting better, and so I didn't know the
- 14:12Speaker 2: life expect to see when you have a severe stroke,
- 14:13Speaker 2: it's literally seven to eight years. But they told my
- 14:16Speaker 2: brother he wouldn't walk off the hospital. So when he
- 14:18Speaker 2: did all that and he was living, he got back
- 14:20Speaker 2: to working, I was like, okay, cool.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Oh and he got out the hospital too.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yeah, he got to the hospital, he got back to
- 14:24Speaker 2: working doing things. It was like, okay, cool. And then
- 14:27Speaker 2: you know, I was on a road with Marlin in
- 14:28Speaker 2: New York and he used the umpire that was like
- 14:31Speaker 2: his side up. So after he had a stroke and
- 14:33Speaker 2: I guess he had a heart attack on the field,
- 14:35Speaker 2: and there was like on a Monday, I talked to
- 14:37Speaker 2: him and he was in the hospitals, like yoa, I'm
- 14:39Speaker 2: gonna come Tuesday and I'm gonna see you. And then
- 14:41Speaker 2: the oary bet and so then Tuesday morning I got
- 14:43Speaker 2: the call he passed away. So I got it, you
- 14:45Speaker 2: know what I mean. When I got there, he had
- 14:46Speaker 2: already passed, and so dealing with all that was like hmmm.
- 14:50Speaker 2: And so it's like that was twenty seventeen, May thirtieth
- 14:53Speaker 2: actually coming up May thirty, twenty seventeen, and he was like, okay, cool,
- 14:56Speaker 2: you gotta get over that. I'm working on the show,
- 14:58Speaker 2: Marlin TV show. I'm wrighting on it, and my mom
- 15:01Speaker 2: comes to visit me. Boom boom on set. It's a
- 15:03Speaker 2: great thing. Boom boom. As soon as I'm done, we've
- 15:05Speaker 2: done tape and she hit me with I got cancer.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I'm like, what, Oh my god, so then.
- 15:09Speaker 1: That to happen boom, and then especially after your dad's
- 15:16Speaker 1: experience with cancer, you're definitely probably scared today.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, but you really, to be honest with you, you clock
- 15:22Speaker 2: in to like everything gonna be okay because you've got
- 15:25Speaker 2: to for her. So that's like you clock into that,
- 15:28Speaker 2: like everything gonna be.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Straight, you mean, like facing her in person, like you.
- 15:33Speaker 2: You are nervous, but it's like your faith kicking, like
- 15:36Speaker 2: you know, prayer words, praying for you. And I looked
- 15:38Speaker 2: up people who actually survived and read them stories versus
- 15:42Speaker 2: the people who didn't. Just feel like my own mental capacity.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Yeah, so you were still trying to like march the
- 15:48Speaker 1: good March. This is without therapy.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Yeah, this is without therapy. Now listen. So I've gotten
- 15:53Speaker 2: the therapy. I remember, so Martin, Martin Williams, I opened
- 15:56Speaker 2: him a lot and so, but this time I take
- 15:57Speaker 2: care of my mom. She had cancers during COVID it's
- 15:59Speaker 2: before any vaccinations. I go through a show with him,
- 16:02Speaker 2: and they still doing shows in the County Club. But
- 16:04Speaker 2: the thing is it's not at full capacity. Everybody spaced out.
- 16:08Speaker 2: I get that. I tell him, I say, hey, man,
- 16:09Speaker 2: that's a lot of people in here. He was like, yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 2: you think so. I was like, yeah, do the show
- 16:13Speaker 2: go back to my mom? He called me like that's
- 16:15Speaker 2: probably on Saturday. Sunday. He hit me on Tuesday like,
- 16:18Speaker 2: hey man, I got COVID. You know, just make sure
- 16:20Speaker 2: your mom is good. Stay away from your mom. And
- 16:22Speaker 2: now something happened in my body that triggered me. I
- 16:24Speaker 2: was like, I thought I could hurt my mom giving
- 16:26Speaker 2: her something. I ain't have COVID, but just the thought.
- 16:28Speaker 2: That's when my body first. I first time it started shaking,
- 16:31Speaker 2: couldn't breathe type stuff. Calling my friend like yo, she's like,
- 16:34Speaker 2: you have anxiety. I said, what the hell is at?
- 16:37Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Got to a doctor first,
- 16:39Speaker 2: you know, I tell it on stage, a white lady.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I said doctor first. I was like, hey, my body's shaken.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I can some medicine. She's like, I'm not giving you
- 16:45Speaker 2: no medicine and like kind of boot and I was like,
- 16:49Speaker 2: So I dealt with that for like maybe a month later,
- 16:51Speaker 2: kept dealing with it and then got that black lady.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I told you about a doctor, and then she referred
- 16:56Speaker 2: me to a therapists, a black therapist, and then we
- 16:58Speaker 2: was good money from there, you know the sense of
- 17:00Speaker 2: like dealing with it. Yeah, I mean started becoming way better. Yeah,
- 17:05Speaker 2: you know what I mean, We're about to be good one.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Now, how regularly do you go to therapy?
- 17:09Speaker 2: Now? Don't have to go as much like I do.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Therapy Probably once a week, no excuse me, once every
- 17:13Speaker 2: other week. Yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I was gonna say if it was once a week.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Like how yeah, once every other week. It's just like
- 17:18Speaker 2: now like checking in managing like different stresses like my
- 17:21Speaker 2: mom's health right now. You know, he's kind of managing
- 17:23Speaker 2: stresses that don't take everything on personally. That's what therapy
- 17:26Speaker 2: to teach you.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Where did the divorce come into play and all that?
- 17:29Speaker 2: I got to I got married in twenty nineteen, divorce
- 17:31Speaker 2: in twenty twenty one, so it's like twenty.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Minutes okay, Yeah, it was like two years. Yeah it
- 17:38Speaker 1: wasn't Britney Spears.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's funny, Okay, But yeah, I was married quick.
- 17:44Speaker 1: It was like in love and out of love faster.
- 17:46Speaker 2: It was just a situation where I think, you know,
- 17:49Speaker 2: it was best for the both of us to kind
- 17:50Speaker 2: of like separate and get divorced. You know, I think,
- 17:53Speaker 2: you know, going into it, it is like I just
- 17:54Speaker 2: lost my brother really didn't know what depression was. I
- 17:57Speaker 2: think me and her, I think he look back at now,
- 18:00Speaker 2: you know, I don't want the best for her. I
- 18:01Speaker 2: think it was just two people who weren't really connected
- 18:03Speaker 2: that tried to us let's just say we can get married,
- 18:05Speaker 2: versus like having an organic connection and deciding to do this.
- 18:08Speaker 2: And I think it manifested during the marriage. And then
- 18:10Speaker 2: when my mom got cancer, it was just some things
- 18:13Speaker 2: that we were transpirings, like it's best that we separate,
- 18:15Speaker 2: and I think we I think it's best for both
- 18:17Speaker 2: of us. So it's like married a year and a half,
- 18:19Speaker 2: and then people ask me like, would you get married again?
- 18:21Speaker 2: I was like, absolutely, you know absolutely, I like being
- 18:25Speaker 2: I feel like.
- 18:27Speaker 1: It didn't Your perspective on marriage is a little bit
- 18:30Speaker 1: different though, after going through it.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I think that even though I got divorced quickly, I
- 18:36Speaker 2: was respect up on marriage is like marriage is the
- 18:38Speaker 2: pinnacle of like deciding to fight for somebody you know
- 18:41Speaker 2: day in and day out that you love. You know
- 18:42Speaker 2: what I mean. I just did it through the wrong person,
- 18:45Speaker 2: you know what I mean. But I still believe in
- 18:46Speaker 2: those principles. I would definitely get married. It wasn't like
- 18:48Speaker 2: I lost a bunch. I think men who rightfully, So
- 18:51Speaker 2: when you get a divorce and you've like accumulated so
- 18:54Speaker 2: many assets, and I was talked to an Uber driver,
- 18:57Speaker 2: kid you not and he said, I'm Uber and he's
- 19:00Speaker 2: be a millionaire, he said. My wife left me for
- 19:03Speaker 2: a younger man, he said, and no prenup or whatever.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Half of everything went to her. So now she's like,
- 19:10Speaker 2: I think that perspective of some men, or like, I
- 19:12Speaker 2: would never do this shit again because even if I
- 19:14Speaker 2: love you, if you happen to not want to be
- 19:16Speaker 2: with me no more, I risk losing so much.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Right, But it also depends on the state, right, Yeah.
- 19:21Speaker 2: But I didn't have kids, we didn't have property, so
- 19:23Speaker 2: I didn't have that happen to me. Right.
- 19:25Speaker 1: So it's just like, because you guys just filed some
- 19:27Speaker 1: paperwork and went away.
- 19:28Speaker 2: It should have been that quickly, but it took a while.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Now you got you don't have any kids at all? No, okay,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you want to have kids. Hey, guys, he's not married,
- 19:38Speaker 1: is no kids?
- 19:39Speaker 2: Married? No kids? You know? Career?
- 19:41Speaker 1: Okay, So prior to all of this, let's back all
- 19:47Speaker 1: the way up to pre comedian Sydney. Yes, because I
- 19:51Speaker 1: kind of want to know this backstory.
- 19:53Speaker 2: So pre comedian Sydney Ready raised by dad from musko Ye, Oklahoma,
- 19:57Speaker 2: twenty years about twenty years older than my mother. Right,
- 20:00Speaker 2: So my dad was born in nineteen thirty two, right,
- 20:03Speaker 2: that's old, right, the Korean War. So my mom from Gary, Indiana,
- 20:07Speaker 2: hard and noss a woman, oldest of her family, born
- 20:09Speaker 2: in Guardena, California. Right, raised out there for like eight years,
- 20:13Speaker 2: and then we moved to Texas, Forward, Texas. So I
- 20:15Speaker 2: was raising Forward Texas from nine until I moved back here.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Was hoping playing basketball, right, but knew my capabilities. I'm not.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I'm always been a realist, right. I can't do what
- 20:25Speaker 2: it takes to get to D one right O D two.
- 20:29Speaker 2: But had a good time playing play at junior college.
- 20:31Speaker 2: But I always kind of comedy was like my thing.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I can make people laugh in my own little way.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I'm not an extrovert by any means, right, but I
- 20:40Speaker 2: still make people laugh.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And he knew this early on that you had this.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I watched like Fresh Prince a lot, and like literally
- 20:46Speaker 2: watching first Prince Billy, I was like, I want to
- 20:48Speaker 2: do that. I want to do that. That's literally what
- 20:50Speaker 2: I want to do. So I was like basketball was
- 20:53Speaker 2: like not going well. In junior college, I was like,
- 20:55Speaker 2: I want to see this acting thing. So I got
- 20:57Speaker 2: into an acting class. I was like twenty, I did
- 21:00Speaker 2: like some print work, like for a foot action ad. Right,
- 21:04Speaker 2: I was like on every foot action poster in America
- 21:06Speaker 2: and them all what. At twenty, I was like, I'm
- 21:08Speaker 2: going to LA. My mom was like boy. I was like,
- 21:09Speaker 2: they paid me a thousand dollars. I didn't care. I
- 21:11Speaker 2: bought my ticket and then I moved out to LA
- 21:14Speaker 2: to pursue modeling originally because I'm silly, and they said
- 21:17Speaker 2: absolutely not.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And you're modeling, yeah, because I six four, you're six four.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, still doesn't.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Work that way.
- 21:24Speaker 2: No, you have that ads and stuff I never really believe. Yeah,
- 21:29Speaker 2: I know what it is. Now.
- 21:31Speaker 1: We're in a new air though, because when you let's
- 21:33Speaker 1: you know.
- 21:35Speaker 2: The dream.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Okay, No, you're right, I just.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Want to be paid. I want to be paid one.
- 21:39Speaker 1: No, No, you're right, you're right. Well, first of all,
- 21:42Speaker 1: you're very you you you you are. We already know
- 21:45Speaker 1: what your destiny and your purpose is. So but yes,
- 21:48Speaker 1: all right, go back to your store. I didn't mean
- 21:50Speaker 1: no wordes.
- 21:50Speaker 2: So then I was doing that and then you know,
- 21:52Speaker 2: stand up, and I started stand up. And then I
- 21:54Speaker 2: was like waiting tables, you know what I mean, waiting
- 21:57Speaker 2: table with the DJ's restaurant in Burbank, and I was
- 21:59Speaker 2: like making good money. I was like, damn, which is
- 22:01Speaker 2: a trick to any artists, because when you move out
- 22:03Speaker 2: here in La ex expensive, you gotta sacrifice. Did I
- 22:06Speaker 2: come out here to get rich doing this on my dream?
- 22:09Speaker 2: So I literally stopped working during the night shift's bartending,
- 22:13Speaker 2: which where you make your bread. So I just said,
- 22:15Speaker 2: give me lunch shifts, which is a way cut difference.
- 22:17Speaker 2: But I can do stand up at night. So I
- 22:19Speaker 2: was like, they even try to make me a manager.
- 22:21Speaker 2: True story. They was like, yo, why don't you be
- 22:23Speaker 2: a kitchen manager? You know, I run the kitchen Dadada,
- 22:25Speaker 2: you can make I forget such and such a year
- 22:29Speaker 2: And I was like, oh no, I was like twenty five.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I was like, no, man, I really believe in my
- 22:33Speaker 2: stand up. I'm good. And they was like okay. And
- 22:37Speaker 2: then like I got my first TV appearance in two
- 22:39Speaker 2: thousand and seven, Boom started. Now listen it was PDD persisted,
- 22:44Speaker 2: bad boys in comedy, this would We didn't know none
- 22:47Speaker 2: of that. We didn't know none of that.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I just love how you tried to skate.
- 22:52Speaker 2: We didn't know none of that, trying to get on HBO.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Yo did that, and then from there got my first
- 22:59Speaker 2: writing gage. Short after who I worked for a hell date?
- 23:03Speaker 2: Oh excuse me? From there, no, I did the TV
- 23:06Speaker 2: show that Boys and Comedy Booming. Then from there I
- 23:08Speaker 2: did two TV shows. I did a High Ghetto Mess
- 23:10Speaker 2: with Charlie Murphy. I was like a co host. And
- 23:12Speaker 2: then I did a show called Social Offensive Behavior with
- 23:15Speaker 2: Do Hughey as the host, and it was like hitting
- 23:16Speaker 2: camera show. So I did that out the gate like boom.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I still waiting tables, getting recognized, still having serve burgers.
- 23:22Speaker 2: But you know, it was just the journey.
- 23:24Speaker 1: So you're still not making enough to like fully support
- 23:26Speaker 1: you exactly. Are you managing your money.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Well at this time? Waiting tables? Absolutely, when you do
- 23:31Speaker 2: those shows, that's when I found out it's not like
- 23:33Speaker 2: life changing money. Yeah, right, so it's enough money to
- 23:35Speaker 2: pay some bills. And then my first writing job two
- 23:38Speaker 2: thousand and eight is when I was able to quit Okay,
- 23:41Speaker 2: I was able to quit working at waiting tables, and
- 23:44Speaker 2: that's when it was like a blessing.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Now, were you a little nervous about well, I guess
- 23:47Speaker 1: waiting tables work, but were you a little nervous because
- 23:50Speaker 1: some of these writing shows, like you don't know if
- 23:52Speaker 1: they're going to continue on?
- 23:53Speaker 2: And now listen, that's my mom at the time. I
- 23:55Speaker 2: got my first writing job. Hell date, and I told
- 23:58Speaker 2: my mom. She's like, but you're not quitting the job.
- 24:00Speaker 2: The waiting table job, right, some mom was a writing job.
- 24:02Speaker 2: And she's like, yeah, I understand, but how long is
- 24:04Speaker 2: the job? Right? And I was like, I don't know,
- 24:06Speaker 2: whole season? How long is a season? Right? Because I
- 24:09Speaker 2: was making a thousand dollars a week, so for me,
- 24:11Speaker 2: that's the most money I've ever made. It's like, okay, cool,
- 24:14Speaker 2: one thousand of the week in two thousand and eight,
- 24:15Speaker 2: you know, I'll take it. And then she was like
- 24:18Speaker 2: but then from there it went from that to the
- 24:20Speaker 2: BT Awards to Tony Watt Project, you know what I mean.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Then it's like I'm in the swing of things. Comedy
- 24:25Speaker 2: Central hired me in two thousand and like ten, and
- 24:28Speaker 2: I did like a pilot in twenty eleven. So now
- 24:30Speaker 2: it's like I'm making money in as you're in ye
- 24:32Speaker 2: yeah right, it's.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Like, okay, your name and your resume. You're not even looking.
- 24:36Speaker 1: They're just calling right, word of mouth everything.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Now I'm just getting the egg gross.
- 24:39Speaker 1: You know, I'm just curious, are you at this point
- 24:42Speaker 1: like an LLC a C Corp? Or are you still
- 24:44Speaker 1: making money?
- 24:44Speaker 2: We're still making directly money to me now twenty eleven,
- 24:47Speaker 2: I shouldn't live in color the reboot. Who think it's
- 24:50Speaker 2: coming back? Right? It doesn't come back Like, oh that
- 24:52Speaker 2: kind of hurt because I told everybody back home I'm
- 24:54Speaker 2: about to be famous.
- 24:55Speaker 1: That was my favorite. Let me just tell you something
- 24:57Speaker 1: that was when I was a kid. That was the
- 25:00Speaker 1: each show that you just had to watch continue absolutely,
- 25:04Speaker 1: so getting a part to be a part of that
- 25:06Speaker 1: reboot had to have been like a amazing So.
- 25:07Speaker 2: It was like guest starring on the Women to guest star, like, okay, cool,
- 25:11Speaker 2: my character I was doing from stand up Keenan really liked.
- 25:13Speaker 2: So now I'm like I'm really geeked. Okay, cool that
- 25:16Speaker 2: happened twenty eleven. It doesn't come out now. We get
- 25:18Speaker 2: a little hard Time twenty twelve, thirteen twelve, it's like
- 25:21Speaker 2: I haven't worked. Okay, savings is coming down, you know.
- 25:26Speaker 2: So then I auditioned to do this show, right called
- 25:29Speaker 2: Funniest Wins Right, and it was like, I don't like
- 25:32Speaker 2: competition shows. It's not it's not my thing, right, So
- 25:36Speaker 2: initially I was like, I don't want to do this show,
- 25:38Speaker 2: and so I go audition. Tiffany had is there auditioning
- 25:41Speaker 2: Billy Surrels. Jeannie's at Greenover? Now?
- 25:43Speaker 1: Is this when they're at the height of their career?
- 25:45Speaker 2: So no, it's like before they pop up. Now. Tiffany
- 25:48Speaker 2: was recognizable from a couple of things she did, but
- 25:50Speaker 2: she hadn't done Girls Trip yet. Okay, So twenty fourteen,
- 25:53Speaker 2: I do the show, and the audition process they kind
- 25:55Speaker 2: of I'm a reserve to be on the show, which
- 25:58Speaker 2: means they haven't decided completely on me. Yeah all right, cool,
- 26:01Speaker 2: last day of like you know, letting people know, you
- 26:05Speaker 2: have to know by midnight eleven fifty five literally there,
- 26:07Speaker 2: so you're gonna be on the show? Wow? Cool? Ended
- 26:09Speaker 2: up winning the show was the price one hundred thousand dollars. Yeah,
- 26:13Speaker 2: come listen, that's hilarious. Listen. So I'm dog, so excuse
- 26:17Speaker 2: me that dog. But like I literally like one hundred thousand.
- 26:19Speaker 2: They gave it to me at the last episode. I think, okay,
- 26:21Speaker 2: they're going one hundred grand my account. I go to
- 26:24Speaker 2: the bank, mama, and like I got on sweats right,
- 26:28Speaker 2: a T shirt right, And there's this white man in
- 26:30Speaker 2: a bank, he like, you know, doing his business, and
- 26:32Speaker 2: this white lady she helped me. She was like, I
- 26:34Speaker 2: slide the check on her. She was like, just so
- 26:36Speaker 2: you know, we're gonna have to verify the check so
- 26:37Speaker 2: the funds will not be available right away.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear when they do that shit loud attitude.
- 26:41Speaker 2: And I said, no worries. She goes, you know, check
- 26:44Speaker 2: goes like that. She goes, oh, seventy thousand is available
- 26:47Speaker 2: right now, and thirty thousand will be available like in
- 26:50Speaker 2: such and such that white man will turn around. He
- 26:52Speaker 2: lived at me. I said, thank you guys very much.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I walked out. I called my boy like we all like, now,
- 26:58Speaker 2: was that.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Your biggest check today at that point?
- 27:00Speaker 2: Yes? Oh had it at one time? Absolutely?
- 27:02Speaker 1: Do you look at those game shows a little differently too,
- 27:04Speaker 1: after that experience, cause I know you said you weren't
- 27:07Speaker 1: into that before.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah, to anybody, like just the whole feeling of being
- 27:10Speaker 2: on a game show feels it's not a good feeling. Yeah,
- 27:14Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like the projects build, but
- 27:15Speaker 2: just compete. It's like, you know what I mean for me,
- 27:18Speaker 2: but the money absolutely like you know what I mean.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Now you can live your dream a little more freely.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you know what I mean.
- 27:23Speaker 2: It's like I'm not so much stress cause I got
- 27:25Speaker 2: money in the bank.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Yeah. How much money did you think that that bought
- 27:28Speaker 1: you at the time?
- 27:29Speaker 2: A hundred thousand should have lasted me probably a little longer,
- 27:37Speaker 2: but it last me probably like a year and a half,
- 27:38Speaker 2: two years.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Okay, that's great. Most people would have been what was
- 27:41Speaker 1: the first thing you bought? I was gonna say most people.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Buy cover shoes. Come on, I had never had Jordan's
- 27:48Speaker 2: growing up, right, So I literally that's I bought, Like
- 27:51Speaker 2: any Jordan I wanted. I bought like maybe ten pair
- 27:54Speaker 2: of shoes, and my boys like, what the hell are
- 27:56Speaker 2: you doing? It was like I never had shoes. Y'all
- 27:57Speaker 2: had shoes growing up, like I never had, like you
- 27:59Speaker 2: know what I mean? So I did that. I went
- 28:01Speaker 2: to like Dubai. I went to Dubai. I took my mom. So, Mom,
- 28:04Speaker 2: well go anywhere in the world where you wanna go.
- 28:06Speaker 2: She's like, what anywhere in the world, Mama, anywhere you
- 28:08Speaker 2: wanna go? She was like, I wanna go to Vegas, Mama.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Me and Daddy got married to Vegas. I wanna go
- 28:13Speaker 2: back to Vegas and I want to play lots. Mama,
- 28:15Speaker 2: we go to Hawaii, we go to France Vegas. Took
- 28:18Speaker 2: her to Vegas. Took myself to Dubai.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Okay, did you don't bring anybody with you to Dubai. No,
- 28:25Speaker 1: you did a solo trip.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Which was nerve wrecking. But my partner always told me
- 28:29Speaker 2: and said, whenever you get a check, take your where
- 28:31Speaker 2: take take you take yourself somewhere where you can put
- 28:34Speaker 2: your foot in the water and it be reflection all
- 28:35Speaker 2: the hard work you did. And so my choice was God,
- 28:37Speaker 2: I love that. Yeah.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Who was the homie that gave you that advice?
- 28:40Speaker 2: His name was David Arnold.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Okay, David Arnold. I freaking loved him.
- 28:45Speaker 2: He gave me the advice, and I was like, okay, bad,
- 28:47Speaker 2: So that's what I That's what I do. Wheneverybody do
- 28:49Speaker 2: with something like I feel like worthy of like, okay,
- 28:52Speaker 2: celebrate myself, cause I've been conditioned like just to do
- 28:54Speaker 2: the work, you know. I man, I've been really broke before, right,
- 28:57Speaker 2: So it's like waiting tables. I'll never forget that stuff
- 28:59Speaker 2: like that. So it's like I never try to like
- 29:02Speaker 2: party or kick it too hard work Like I'm not
- 29:04Speaker 2: doing work, so I try to wake up early, you
- 29:07Speaker 2: know what I mean, make sure I'm getting stuff done,
- 29:09Speaker 2: you know what I mean, that kind of condition myself.
- 29:13Speaker 2: But then yeah, my special basically reflects of the triumphs
- 29:18Speaker 2: of going through certain things in your life, you know
- 29:20Speaker 2: what I mean. Where I had my place broken up
- 29:21Speaker 2: by somebody else, dealing with my family stole like you
- 29:24Speaker 2: know about fifty thousand dollars for me, I say, it
- 29:27Speaker 2: was the kind of my mother.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Did you end up repairing that relationship in the end.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Absolutely nothing. That's my friends say you're gonna do another
- 29:33Speaker 2: special to address that, and I was thinking maybe, but
- 29:35Speaker 2: that's dead, you know what I mean.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Yeah, so you you go, let's go back to Dubai.
- 29:41Speaker 1: So you're your go to Dubai. Living color doesn't come out,
- 29:45Speaker 1: but you're still where does the going on tour with
- 29:48Speaker 1: Marlon Wayne's.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And all that that happens. Okay, So I went Funniest
- 29:51Speaker 2: Wins twenty fourteen, going toward Marlin probably around later two
- 29:56Speaker 2: thousand and twenty fifteen, right he asked me to go
- 30:00Speaker 2: on a road with him to I think the first
- 30:02Speaker 2: place was Nashville, Tennessee. We went, yeah, in Nashville, Tennessee.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Because I had been doing stand up longer.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Than Marland, so like you said, you had.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely, I've been doing a cent away longer than Marlin.
- 30:13Speaker 2: So I've been doing stand up probably a decade before
- 30:15Speaker 2: Marlin start.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But was the call did it? Was it like oh
- 30:19Speaker 1: my gosh? Or was it because you guys had been
- 30:21Speaker 1: working together so long?
- 30:22Speaker 2: It was like whatever, No, it's never whenever, when you
- 30:25Speaker 2: get to work with a superstar, you get to learn.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Now we develop a close relationship over time, but initially,
- 30:30Speaker 2: like he would be in clubs doing stand up, so
- 30:32Speaker 2: he was approachable, so we knew him, so it wasn't
- 30:33Speaker 2: a starstruck moment. And like I've been knowing the family
- 30:36Speaker 2: for a minute through Chante and Damon Junr Like and
- 30:38Speaker 2: Damon Junior kind of start stand up together. Okay, So
- 30:40Speaker 2: it was definitely like a he was like, you know,
- 30:42Speaker 2: a cool moment, you want to do a road date,
- 30:44Speaker 2: like okay, bet, yeah, very excited. And then you learn
- 30:47Speaker 2: a lot, you know what I mean, Like as he's
- 30:48Speaker 2: learning the craft that stand up and like you know,
- 30:51Speaker 2: from being an actor, it's like you kind of learn
- 30:53Speaker 2: how to be a star, you know, and how he
- 30:55Speaker 2: deals with different things, his work ethic, like that man
- 30:58Speaker 2: gets he works out every day before.
- 31:00Speaker 1: The show, works out as it hits the gym every day.
- 31:03Speaker 2: And I never assume that Marlin works out so much
- 31:06Speaker 2: during the day, eats very well, and his body is
- 31:08Speaker 2: like a machine. And then you realize, like, damn, I
- 31:11Speaker 2: do I could eat a little better as I sit
- 31:13Speaker 2: here coachest all.
- 31:15Speaker 1: The butter that you talk about.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, yeah, but listen he had my I'm a little.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Confused because Marlon. Marlon was always on the thinner side. Yeah,
- 31:23Speaker 1: but he always worked out a lot.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Yeah, this man work out.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I mean he looks I'm not even gonna lie like,
- 31:29Speaker 1: he looks amazing, like you know, but that's that's double
- 31:33Speaker 1: the little aggroll things.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that's because it's our last meet.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Okay, cool, I'm really invested in this meal and the story. Guys,
- 31:40Speaker 1: this is so when you get the first tour date,
- 31:43Speaker 1: are you what are the emotions of that?
- 31:45Speaker 2: I have it on tour before with him though, Oh
- 31:48Speaker 2: with him, it was just that we go to Nashville,
- 31:50Speaker 2: you know, then you kind of like go to the show,
- 31:53Speaker 2: do my time, you know what I mean? And I
- 31:55Speaker 2: kind of help him with his stand up as far
- 31:57Speaker 2: as like if I have a joke I think can
- 31:58Speaker 2: benefit him off what he was saying, you know, give
- 32:01Speaker 2: him that. Well now now because I'm worst baby, Oh yeah,
- 32:05Speaker 2: give him that. And then it became like consistent and
- 32:07Speaker 2: now we developed like you know, a friendship more. And
- 32:10Speaker 2: then like he was preparing for it first special and
- 32:12Speaker 2: that was real fun because you like got a tour
- 32:14Speaker 2: bus and we go across the country like performing.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Oh and most comedians they don't really just give jokes,
- 32:21Speaker 1: by the way, right, Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 2: But see it's like when people are like you establish
- 32:26Speaker 2: a relationship with somebody, It's like, yeah, I can make
- 32:28Speaker 2: money charging jokes, but this man has brought me on
- 32:31Speaker 2: a road. It's like a rapport. It's like whoever I
- 32:33Speaker 2: go on a road with, it's like the opportunity to
- 32:35Speaker 2: be on the road, thank you. So if I have something,
- 32:37Speaker 2: it would behoove me to tell you, because it's like
- 32:39Speaker 2: it's not even you know, and my blessing ain't attached
- 32:42Speaker 2: to your success, you know what I mean. So it's like, yes,
- 32:45Speaker 2: it says, doesn't mean I'm not gonna get blessed. So
- 32:47Speaker 2: if I have something for you, I'm give it to you.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Now. I had seen you do the stand up at
- 32:52Speaker 1: the Black Party and I love him. Yeah, shout outs
- 32:56Speaker 1: to Chris Spencer and the Elliott Brothers. You have a
- 32:59Speaker 1: lot out of jokes, you know, I don't think I
- 33:02Speaker 1: saw all your jokes that I've seen in person on
- 33:04Speaker 1: the special. At what point do you how do you
- 33:08Speaker 1: figure out which jokes are you going to release? Because
- 33:10Speaker 1: we're in a digital age and you know, like some
- 33:14Speaker 1: that's a hard call to which jokes you're gonna to
- 33:17Speaker 1: kind of give up, you know, and so when you
- 33:19Speaker 1: do a special, you kind of technically in my mind,
- 33:22Speaker 1: I would assume you're like retiring the joke, right.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it's what story am I telling? Right? So if
- 33:27Speaker 2: I'm telling my cup is full, all the things in
- 33:29Speaker 2: my cup that have made me anxious and my points
- 33:32Speaker 2: of view, those bits gotta go in there, okay. And
- 33:34Speaker 2: so there's like, okay relationships. When I talk about the
- 33:36Speaker 2: letty who broke up my place, now I can retire
- 33:39Speaker 2: the dating my dating perspective going into love is blind. Boom.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Now it's like, Okay, suicide, I could talk about that
- 33:46Speaker 2: because I've dealt with that in my family. Boom, do
- 33:48Speaker 2: that then get to my mom. So it's really basically
- 33:51Speaker 2: I choose by the theme of the show. So like
- 33:53Speaker 2: I'm you know, I mean debating if my next specials
- 33:56Speaker 2: called two Things Can be True, there's a bunch of
- 33:58Speaker 2: perspectives of how tooth pe can be true. Those will
- 34:01Speaker 2: go into the bucket of like what would be decided
- 34:02Speaker 2: to perform, Like random jokes won't make it right. So
- 34:06Speaker 2: it's like random jokes that are just kind of funny
- 34:08Speaker 2: or people might know me from. If it doesn't fit
- 34:10Speaker 2: the Oprahall theme or what I'm trying to do, then
- 34:12Speaker 2: those don't make it. Those can live online.
- 34:16Speaker 1: How often are you planning to release specials?
- 34:19Speaker 2: Now? It feels so good just to release his last one.
- 34:21Speaker 2: I want to Now I'm like, oh, I want to
- 34:22Speaker 2: release another one in a few months. Okay, So I'm
- 34:25Speaker 2: thinking two a year right now, maybe two three years?
- 34:27Speaker 1: Wow?
- 34:28Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, they seeing at least a deep due kind
- 34:30Speaker 2: of like the blueprint of like putting out a bunch
- 34:32Speaker 2: of good quality product. Its like influenced me to be like, yo,
- 34:36Speaker 2: if you keep putting great product out there, people will
- 34:38Speaker 2: keep coming back, you know what I mean. So I
- 34:40Speaker 2: think he set the bar on the hustle on how
- 34:42Speaker 2: to put out your own product online.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Really so, did you have to finance the project?
- 34:53Speaker 2: No, this woean was finance for me. They actually called
- 34:56Speaker 2: me they had a spot available, right I didn't. I
- 34:58Speaker 2: was trying to shoot my special, you know, thinking about
- 35:00Speaker 2: it putting together. These people call my manager were like, hey,
- 35:03Speaker 2: we have a slot open. Would he like it? You
- 35:05Speaker 2: know what I mean? Say, we're paying for the special?
- 35:07Speaker 2: Like oh absolutely.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Now it releases on YouTube or on YouTube, but it's
- 35:12Speaker 1: under their financing.
- 35:13Speaker 2: So how does this it's under their YouTube so their
- 35:14Speaker 2: YouTube pages. Yes, a one hundred pound gorilla, they have
- 35:17Speaker 2: like five hundred and twenty some thousand subscribers on their page.
- 35:21Speaker 2: So release on their page and we're doing well, like
- 35:22Speaker 2: the mixed with like my push and they put some
- 35:24Speaker 2: advertising behind it. We dropped it yesterday and it said
- 35:27Speaker 2: sixty thousand views already, so the goal is to get
- 35:30Speaker 2: it to a million, so I think we do on
- 35:31Speaker 2: track of doing it.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's awesome, thank you.
- 35:35Speaker 2: And look these egg rolls you want to put in
- 35:36Speaker 2: here just two three minutes aside they use a rack
- 35:40Speaker 2: or you can use them four just to kind of
- 35:41Speaker 2: let a drain cut this greasauce so we don't burn
- 35:43Speaker 2: ourselves boom and then you kind of clean as you
- 35:46Speaker 2: go because all therapy boom boom, kind of as you
- 35:48Speaker 2: will as you go as you go. But let me
- 35:49Speaker 2: set you at first, this is our we'll use this
- 35:51Speaker 2: as a plating dish.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Besides the little bit of a gap in what was
- 35:56Speaker 1: like the biggest hurdle that you feel like you had
- 35:59Speaker 1: to you ended up going through during your whole career.
- 36:02Speaker 2: With my mother's health, Like you know, she's alive, you
- 36:04Speaker 2: know what I mean. I think I think the biggest
- 36:07Speaker 2: journey currently would be you feel like away being away
- 36:11Speaker 2: from her now for you know what I mean. So
- 36:13Speaker 2: it's like she's able to take care of herself, but
- 36:15Speaker 2: like because I've lost family and like you know, I mean,
- 36:17Speaker 2: it's like every moment I'm away, like working or doing
- 36:19Speaker 2: something that has to be valuable time spent, because when
- 36:22Speaker 2: you're away from her, you be feeling like a bad son.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so I think the hardest thing in therapy
- 36:27Speaker 2: is to learn that I'm not a bad son. I'm
- 36:28Speaker 2: doing what's best for my family. But I think just
- 36:31Speaker 2: because I've lost family, every moment i'm away from her
- 36:33Speaker 2: sometimes can feel guilty, you know what i mean? So yeah, wow,
- 36:37Speaker 2: got deep on you? What so the everyone was ready,
- 36:42Speaker 2: I'm super happy. So I'm gonna cut it for you.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Cut it in a half quick. I'm stand a really
- 36:46Speaker 2: to that.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Look at the crunch or you're trying to do a presentation, hilarious.
- 36:56Speaker 1: If you're trying to be fancy and there's no cheese, I've.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Done cheese before with the stream Ones, whatever you're trying
- 37:02Speaker 2: to be fancy, it's just kind of like, you know,
- 37:05Speaker 2: spread you're hilarious.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I'm a real person. That he's real. I'm from New York.
- 37:09Speaker 1: I you real?
- 37:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 37:10Speaker 1: You really getting into this? Look at this, guys, you're
- 37:14Speaker 1: gonna see me chump jump jump jump jump. Look at it.
- 37:17Speaker 1: It looks great. Is there a reason why there's no
- 37:21Speaker 1: cheese in it? I'm just curious, just to cut down,
- 37:25Speaker 1: just cut back. Now, this isn't considered a broke dish.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Is it. I mean, the chicken guys are pretty inexpensive, right,
- 37:31Speaker 2: and so most people got mustard man mustard and ketchup
- 37:33Speaker 2: in their house already with hot sauce. Go ahead, do
- 37:36Speaker 2: you think, Oh my god, yeah right, yeah.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Yo, this is it? This is it in the sauce. Guys,
- 37:54Speaker 1: did we did you explain what mixed?
- 37:57Speaker 2: We do ketchup de Jon muster because it got a
- 37:59Speaker 2: little more bite to it hot sauce and again this
- 38:02Speaker 2: from YouTube, and I see it like meat. So I
- 38:05Speaker 2: do glic powder, I do onion powder, I do pepper,
- 38:09Speaker 2: and I do salt.
- 38:10Speaker 1: And that egg rolled paper, Oh my god.
- 38:15Speaker 2: I like the vegan wraps. Why I I was good
- 38:21Speaker 2: and I got a non v rock. It was too christy,
- 38:24Speaker 2: like too much, too much shelved meal.
- 38:29Speaker 1: So we couldn't find it at first, and we got
- 38:33Speaker 1: the one that you said. But we were like, man,
- 38:35Speaker 1: he obviously he's not vegan. And I said, maybe there's
- 38:38Speaker 1: a reason to it. So we went Yeah, they sell
- 38:42Speaker 1: it at Target. I don't know if they sell it
- 38:44Speaker 1: all the grocery stores.
- 38:45Speaker 2: So, guys, you.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Know what I'm eating for dinner tonight, good money, cut
- 38:59Speaker 1: down some ship and just so you know, I'm not
- 39:01Speaker 1: giving you any credit.
- 39:04Speaker 2: You're not supposed to no, but you tell that person, yeah,
- 39:07Speaker 2: it was all me, you know what I mean, top
- 39:08Speaker 2: of my head type of business.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Then when the episode drives, you know.
- 39:15Speaker 2: You could cut me out of the episode, like, look,
- 39:17Speaker 2: I made chicken ear rows, you know what I mean.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Honestly, do you ever notice this? I don't know. For me,
- 39:22Speaker 1: I feel like the closer my circle is, the less
- 39:24Speaker 1: they've watched my stuff.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Because they're so used to you.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Probably my will be like, I don't know, I've never
- 39:30Speaker 1: really watched it. You know, I'm like, oh okay, it's
- 39:33Speaker 1: like four years later.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna get the side too. You can't waste it.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Thank you?
- 39:43Speaker 1: What advice?
- 39:44Speaker 2: You can get a hole if you want, I will.
- 39:46Speaker 2: You know what.
- 39:50Speaker 1: The hardest part about the show is if someone cuts
- 39:52Speaker 1: something really good and I know you're on a time crunch,
- 39:55Speaker 1: but I'll usually be like, call up for like two
- 39:57Speaker 1: seconds so we can enjoy this. Damn I got distracted.
- 40:01Speaker 2: M that was good.
- 40:03Speaker 1: This is delicious advice. Yeah, any advice for Thank you
- 40:07Speaker 1: for catching me on that. M for comics, yeah, for
- 40:13Speaker 1: comics and then secondly for people dealing with stress.
- 40:22Speaker 2: MM. I say for comics, two things. Mm your first
- 40:27Speaker 2: couple of years and stand up, stop worrying about being good.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Really it's like, really, just learn how to be comfortable.
- 40:33Speaker 2: It's like when you get into a boxing ring, you
- 40:36Speaker 2: have to learn boxing. You have to learn how to
- 40:39Speaker 2: be a doctor. Yeah, even if you've been doing it
- 40:41Speaker 2: a year, you have to learn certain techniques to get
- 40:44Speaker 2: you to be at a level where people trust you.
- 40:46Speaker 2: So when your first couple years of comedy, just do
- 40:48Speaker 2: so many reps to learn and don't worry about like
- 40:50Speaker 2: even posting videos right now. Your p stand up for
- 40:54Speaker 2: six months is not gonna hit like you're stand up
- 40:56Speaker 2: when you're doing it for four to five years. Yeah.
- 40:59Speaker 2: So when we're being a rushed or like showcase yourself
- 41:02Speaker 2: being a rush to build yourself and then really work
- 41:05Speaker 2: on your audience. When you want to promote a video
- 41:06Speaker 2: real quick, you be doing set up six months, don't
- 41:08Speaker 2: put up the stand up video, put up. You just
- 41:10Speaker 2: work on gaining your audience. And when your voice becomes
- 41:13Speaker 2: more mature and stand up, that's when you attack them.
- 41:16Speaker 2: The first time. They first impression of you should be like,
- 41:19Speaker 2: oh my goodness.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Right, wait, how do you go back to how do
- 41:23Speaker 1: you work on gaining your audience?
- 41:25Speaker 2: That's like whatever it is that you do, what you're doing,
- 41:27Speaker 2: you cook, right, so then you have a show about cooking.
- 41:29Speaker 2: So online, find out what you know, what your niche is,
- 41:32Speaker 2: if it's like doing reaction videos, if it skits, if
- 41:36Speaker 2: it's like posting stand up videos, just be cons consistent
- 41:39Speaker 2: on all platforms and then listen. They got streaming university.
- 41:42Speaker 2: I'm forty three. I'll be learning from these dudes. Stay
- 41:45Speaker 2: consistent and go live on TikTok every day. What's a
- 41:48Speaker 2: trending song I can attach to my comedy like learn
- 41:51Speaker 2: like learn the brand of online. Focus on that, right,
- 41:55Speaker 2: it's a new era. Focus on that and build your
- 41:57Speaker 2: stand up and then present it when the food ready.
- 41:59Speaker 2: We can't eat raw chicken, you'll stand up raw in
- 42:01Speaker 2: the first year. You ain't cooked it yet, you know
- 42:03Speaker 2: what I mean. So just focus on that and then
- 42:05Speaker 2: when it's ready, present that to the world. But like,
- 42:07Speaker 2: focus on the hours it takes to be great, which
- 42:10Speaker 2: is like putting in the time of doing stand up anywhere.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Coffee shops. It don't matter.
- 42:14Speaker 1: But now how do they stay keep that consistency focusing
- 42:17Speaker 1: on the reps if they get say booed, because they're
- 42:21Speaker 1: not focusing on the laughter.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Or what every fact.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Excuse me, here's napkins.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Every time you gonna say, you learn something. So if
- 42:34Speaker 2: you got boo that's fine. I got boog before. I
- 42:37Speaker 2: still put our special came out to this girl. From
- 42:40Speaker 2: the consistency and learning off that bed preparation, you learn stuff.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Curry might go three from fifteen from the floor. He's
- 42:46Speaker 2: still the greatest shooter of all times. He's gonna keep
- 42:48Speaker 2: putting up shots. So there's the consistency and the work ethic.
- 42:52Speaker 2: And you might be bad, and you can go to
- 42:55Speaker 2: a trainer, which is somebody or older comedian. Can I
- 42:57Speaker 2: give you some advice? Go back to the fight?
- 43:00Speaker 1: Okay?
- 43:00Speaker 2: Yeah, man, it's like any movie the boxer got beat
- 43:03Speaker 2: up and then he wins in the end. You're just
- 43:04Speaker 2: getting beat up right now?
- 43:06Speaker 1: Who was your go to person that kind of was
- 43:10Speaker 1: that person that would different.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Says in my career. When I first started, it was Alizadi.
- 43:14Speaker 2: He's the first person that kind of put me on
- 43:15Speaker 2: stage and they gave me a guest set knew my
- 43:17Speaker 2: brother you know me and him. Then it became like
- 43:19Speaker 2: Chris Spencer, then Tony Rock took me on the road
- 43:21Speaker 2: originally Marlin. Right now Ian Edwards big influence, he's a writer,
- 43:26Speaker 2: big influence in my stand up when I was, you know,
- 43:28Speaker 2: around him. So right now I have like a circle
- 43:31Speaker 2: of people I trust Tyler James Roywood Jr. Ali if
- 43:35Speaker 2: I have something, or my boy Chris Tremo. It's a
- 43:38Speaker 2: circle of people I trust with my excuse me, my thoughts.
- 43:41Speaker 2: I might not necessarily want a joke from you, but
- 43:44Speaker 2: how can you expand my thought on this premise? And
- 43:47Speaker 2: then attack is extra? But like, how can you open
- 43:49Speaker 2: my eyes? So I got like maybe four or five people.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Do you feel like they or was it a case
- 43:54Speaker 1: where they were attracted to you because they saw your
- 43:57Speaker 1: because you're very infectious, like you're very like, oh my
- 43:59Speaker 1: god us like I love him like you know? Was
- 44:02Speaker 1: it was it one of those cases where you approach them.
- 44:05Speaker 1: I would imagine it was them approaching you like I
- 44:07Speaker 1: see this diamond with friends, okay, friendship.
- 44:11Speaker 2: So it's like the people I'm close with, my circle
- 44:15Speaker 2: works extremely hard to right. So we're trying to help
- 44:18Speaker 2: each other. So if Tyler I said something on stage
- 44:22Speaker 2: when he come off, if my brain's like, oh boom,
- 44:24Speaker 2: come here now, I might not take the time with
- 44:27Speaker 2: somebody I don't know as much. And then if they
- 44:29Speaker 2: asked me and I've seen it cool. But with my
- 44:31Speaker 2: my friends about love, like Tyler, check on my mama,
- 44:34Speaker 2: I send her stuff and I'm not even knowing. It's
- 44:36Speaker 2: like flowers, like whatever Tyler needs.
- 44:39Speaker 1: That Taylor, we love you.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's like whatever you need. It's like in
- 44:42Speaker 2: that moment, I you know, I'm submissive with my talent
- 44:45Speaker 2: to you. You know what I mean, because it's like
- 44:47Speaker 2: I love you my friends.
- 44:48Speaker 1: So and that's very hard to get in la. Do
- 44:51Speaker 1: you feel like comedy is more of a loving From
- 44:54Speaker 1: what I've seen in comedy up, I have friends in
- 44:56Speaker 1: it or family in it, it feels like it's it's weird.
- 45:01Speaker 1: From the outside, it feels like it's very supportive. Even
- 45:03Speaker 1: going to your special and seeing all the comics that
- 45:06Speaker 1: came out, it's like it's it's weird. You hear about
- 45:09Speaker 1: a little bit of hater aid, but for the most part,
- 45:12Speaker 1: there's like this family system.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like any other job, like professional sports, you
- 45:18Speaker 2: got teamate probably don't fuck with each other as much,
- 45:20Speaker 2: or you don't like each other as much your regular job.
- 45:22Speaker 2: God be discerned. Not everybody don't like each other, but
- 45:25Speaker 2: you do have people that we're like a support system.
- 45:27Speaker 2: The majority of people want to see you win. There's
- 45:29Speaker 2: got some people that maybe don't right what you want
- 45:31Speaker 2: to write several people or listen to that noise us
- 45:34Speaker 2: to write several people that love you. You know they
- 45:36Speaker 2: want to see you win. Like even yesterday, for example,
- 45:39Speaker 2: I work on wild'n Out, Like I'm consulting that shelfe
- 45:41Speaker 2: you like you don't question some time and so I
- 45:43Speaker 2: was like talking to Tyler. He was like, have you
- 45:45Speaker 2: reached out for anybody to cast to help you promote
- 45:47Speaker 2: your special? And I was like, no, I've got everybody number.
- 45:51Speaker 2: He was like one second he literally put me in
- 45:53Speaker 2: a group text Hey Justina you know see it. She's
- 45:56Speaker 2: like yeah, she calls me a sister. He's like, you
- 45:58Speaker 2: helped me with his special. Just drop send me the
- 46:00Speaker 2: information con conceded what you need, man, send me the
- 46:04Speaker 2: information DC young Flag send me. So it's like, you know,
- 46:08Speaker 2: they just naturally it's like Marlon, he puts out a
- 46:11Speaker 2: video for me. So it's like Ralph Ralph Bobosa. Yeah,
- 46:14Speaker 2: he put out a video. He accepted my collaboration of
- 46:17Speaker 2: him like shouting me out. Forty thousand people heard about
- 46:20Speaker 2: my special because in doing that, So it's like it's
- 46:22Speaker 2: the thing you do in CONU to report people like
- 46:23Speaker 2: you care about. You know, you mess with, you don't
- 46:26Speaker 2: mind doing whatever it takes for them to like get
- 46:27Speaker 2: a good shot.
- 46:28Speaker 1: I love that. I love that. All right, Well, is
- 46:33Speaker 1: there any place that we could keep up with everything, Sydney?
- 46:36Speaker 1: And do you already have the next special lineup? Or
- 46:39Speaker 1: should we just focus on I feel like we should
- 46:41Speaker 1: just focus on my cup is full and how important
- 46:44Speaker 1: it is to support, but not only support, but like share.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Right please right now, go to meet Sidney can steal
- 46:51Speaker 2: dot com.
- 46:52Speaker 1: So you said it's so fast, all right.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Go to meet Sydney cansteal dot com. That's s Y
- 46:56Speaker 2: D N E Y castillo c A S T I
- 46:58Speaker 2: l O dot and you can see where I'm torn.
- 47:01Speaker 2: I'll be in Charlotte, North Carolina, August twenty first and
- 47:04Speaker 2: twenty third. Right now, please go to YouTube type in
- 47:07Speaker 2: my cup is full. My hour special is available right now.
- 47:10Speaker 2: It's a sixty thousand views. IM trying to get it
- 47:12Speaker 2: to one hundred thousand views by the end of the week.
- 47:13Speaker 1: We can do that easy, and.
- 47:15Speaker 2: So like, just support it of My Cup is Fool,
- 47:17Speaker 2: My Coup is full, the podcast is out. You don't
- 47:19Speaker 2: support that, and just if you got anxiety.
- 47:21Speaker 1: With My Cup is Full, of the podcast is out.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it started with a podcast. Okay, So I have
- 47:26Speaker 2: a podcast called My Cup is Fool where I talk
- 47:27Speaker 2: about the situations I talked about my special, talk about
- 47:31Speaker 2: the real stories of them actually happening, and like how
- 47:33Speaker 2: I felt about them. So it's more of a podcast.
- 47:35Speaker 2: If a man who has anxiety and thinks he's going
- 47:37Speaker 2: on in his life through a podcast form and I
- 47:39Speaker 2: have guests, but take out the special. And if you
- 47:42Speaker 2: have anxiety, like you ain't weird, especially as a black dude,
- 47:44Speaker 2: you feel like insecure because when that attack happens, you
- 47:47Speaker 2: feel defenseless. Tell somebody you know, check yourself into therapy
- 47:50Speaker 2: because it does help.
- 47:52Speaker 1: And that's like talk therapy helps you.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah in person.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Yeah, some medication, but you don't do the medication anymore.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Nah, Nah, I don't really like the medication for me,
- 48:02Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, I like talk
- 48:04Speaker 2: therapy and I do take some medicine if I'm having
- 48:06Speaker 2: an attack. I don't take a daily like lexipro like
- 48:08Speaker 2: they be able to want me to. I don't take
- 48:10Speaker 2: that as much anymore. But if you are having a
- 48:12Speaker 2: panic attack, I will say this works. All the remedies
- 48:14Speaker 2: to me, don't be working. If you feel overwhelmed and
- 48:18Speaker 2: you're doing that and you're feeling this overwhelming feeling, get
- 48:20Speaker 2: a piece of ice. I know it sounds silly, get
- 48:23Speaker 2: a piece of ice rubbing in your hand, okay, because
- 48:25Speaker 2: the coldness of the ice will shock your brain and
- 48:28Speaker 2: you instantly be just thinking about how cold it is
- 48:30Speaker 2: and you will settle what Trust me, I know. It's
- 48:33Speaker 2: like the TikTok acts. I was like, man, whatever I
- 48:36Speaker 2: was having one, I said, I did like this. You
- 48:38Speaker 2: learned it from TikTok Dog that's TikTok University.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Now have you had people approach you like where they
- 48:44Speaker 1: were like, man, I haven't told anybody about my anxiety
- 48:48Speaker 1: and or like what I've been feeling, like this allows
- 48:50Speaker 1: me to be comfortable.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Or yeah, the podcast helps with that a lot. Like
- 48:53Speaker 2: healthy the special will too. After my shows, a lot
- 48:55Speaker 2: of black men come up to me like, yo, I
- 48:57Speaker 2: got an episode called DDG did that a game? Right?
- 49:00Speaker 2: I talk about losing your father? And then a lot
- 49:01Speaker 2: of men came with to me have the show like
- 49:02Speaker 2: dark that episode, and a lot to me like I'll
- 49:05Speaker 2: be going through the same feelings. So it's like that
- 49:07Speaker 2: form of like expressing what I go through has definitely
- 49:09Speaker 2: allowed me to meet people like me, you know what
- 49:11Speaker 2: I mean. It looked like me, you know what I mean.
- 49:13Speaker 2: So it's like I'm happy for that. I didn't start
- 49:16Speaker 2: it for that, but like if I could like tell
- 49:18Speaker 2: my story and somebody like be influenced or feel comfortable
- 49:20Speaker 2: enough to come up to me and be like yo,
- 49:21Speaker 2: I'll be feeling insecure I be feeling like this, then
- 49:25Speaker 2: it's working what I'm doing, you know what I mean.
- 49:27Speaker 1: I feel like when you're as vulnerable as you've been,
- 49:29Speaker 1: as easy for people. I hate to say this word
- 49:31Speaker 1: cause I sound like really lame, but like you know,
- 49:33Speaker 1: it's easy for people to love you versus like just
- 49:36Speaker 1: like you. They're like, oh my god, I feel a
- 49:38Speaker 1: connection because of that level of vulnerability. The one question
- 49:41Speaker 1: I didn't ask, and I know you have got like
- 49:43Speaker 1: one minute left. Is how much of a pivotal role
- 49:47Speaker 1: did your father play and who you are today?
- 49:49Speaker 2: M big And my father was older so when like
- 49:53Speaker 2: we was outside doing things together a lot, he was older.
- 49:56Speaker 2: So he helped me with like a perspective, you know
- 49:58Speaker 2: what I mean. His whole thing was like even with
- 50:00Speaker 2: me pursuing his dream like and not going to college
- 50:03Speaker 2: like that, his whole thing was like, have a plan
- 50:05Speaker 2: and make sure God is a part of your plan. Right.
- 50:07Speaker 2: That was my one my first tattoos, and it was like, okay, cool.
- 50:10Speaker 2: So as long as I was had a plan of action,
- 50:13Speaker 2: he didn't care. He knew right now, he said, And
- 50:15Speaker 2: he's just say, your situation doesn't define you how you
- 50:18Speaker 2: come out, your situation does, right.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Wow.
- 50:20Speaker 2: And so like this is back in the time when
- 50:22Speaker 2: I first started TV. The Bad Boy's the thing I
- 50:23Speaker 2: told you about my favorite memories of my pop. It
- 50:26Speaker 2: was like it was on DVD and he was in
- 50:28Speaker 2: his office and then like randomly I walked into office
- 50:31Speaker 2: and he was like this maybe a year after it
- 50:32Speaker 2: came out and he was watching it. I said, what
- 50:34Speaker 2: you're doing? He was like, I'm watching my son and
- 50:36Speaker 2: he was so proud. So that's probably the moment I'm like, man,
- 50:39Speaker 2: you know what I mean. He was heavily influenced on
- 50:41Speaker 2: just like my mindset. It was like how to approach things,
- 50:44Speaker 2: you know what I mean, how to deal with people,
- 50:46Speaker 2: even women like. He was very influential on like respect
- 50:49Speaker 2: and things like that.
- 50:50Speaker 1: So yeah, okay, yeah, all right, Wow, I feel like
- 50:54Speaker 1: I got to fully understand the make of Sydney Steeler.
- 50:57Speaker 2: I'll appreciate you.
- 50:58Speaker 1: I'm saying it right, am I still bhering like a
- 51:00Speaker 1: who Castillo? Castillo? You know what? That's how you know
- 51:02Speaker 1: I'm from like New York because I can't even say
- 51:04Speaker 1: a polo local from New York Brooklyn and know what
- 51:07Speaker 1: I'm saying. But yeah, even you see me struggling with uphold,
- 51:11Speaker 1: I know people are like you. I'm like, I am
- 51:15Speaker 1: way too old to be struggling. But thank you so
- 51:17Speaker 1: much for spending quality time and feeding me a really
- 51:19Speaker 1: great meal. And I can't wait for the cameras to
- 51:21Speaker 1: cut so we can dig in. So thank you. Piece
- 51:25Speaker 1: out guys for more eating while broke from iHeartRadio and
- 51:33Speaker 1: The Black Effect, visit the iHeartRadio app Apple podcasts, or
- 51:37Speaker 1: wherever you listen to your favorite shows.
