SPEAKER_02: The news, other weeks you accidentally become the news.
• 0:03
SPEAKER_02: Coming up today, the Scots are finally in the wind column.
• 0:06
SPEAKER_02: North Texas Giving Day is here, and we're looking ahead to some major fall events.
• 0:11
SPEAKER_02: Investigating when the parking spaces in front of UP Elementary became a used car lot.
• 0:16
SPEAKER_02: And I have learned two very important lessons about covering high school football.
• 0:20
  SPEAKER_02: Know the correct mascot.
• 0:22
SPEAKER_02: And never ever trust voice to text on a loud football field.
• 0:27
SPEAKER_02: When one missing letter can send an entire high school into hysterics.
• 0:31
  SPEAKER_02: Here we go.
• 0:34
unknown: Welcome to the Bubble Guild.
• 0:48
SPEAKER_02: We have a lot to talk about today.
• 1:04
SPEAKER_02: All of that I need to address the situation.
• 1:07
SPEAKER_02: This does not become a recurring segment.
• 1:10
SPEAKER_02: But welcome to Embarrassing Moment of the Week.
• 1:13
SPEAKER_02: Last Friday, I was on the field at Highlander Stadium getting ready for the Scots first home game.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_02: We were doing the runout video.
• 1:20
SPEAKER_02: The crowd was arriving, the band was playing, and there was a lot going on.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_02: I looked in the camera and confidently announced that Highland Park was about to take on the Tyler Tigers.
• 1:30
SPEAKER_02: There was only one problem.
• 1:31
  SPEAKER_02: They're the Tyler Lions.
• 1:34
SPEAKER_02: Not the Tigers, the Lions.
• 1:36
SPEAKER_02: In my defense, there are a lot of high school mascots in Texas.
• 1:39
SPEAKER_02: Lions, tigers, eagles, panthers, and wildcats.
• 1:42
SPEAKER_02: At some point, they all begin to sound like we're taking attendance for Noah's Ark.
• 1:46
SPEAKER_02: Still, I should have known.
• 1:48
SPEAKER_02: And many of you were so kind to let me know.
• 1:51
SPEAKER_02: Some people politely sent me messages, others commented directly on the video.
• 1:57
  SPEAKER_02: That was unfortunate.
• 1:58
  SPEAKER_02: Lesson learned.
• 1:59
SPEAKER_02: Next time I'll double check the mascot before I start talking.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, that was just the beginning.
• 2:05
SPEAKER_02: Trying to write the caption for the same video while standing on a very loud football field.
• 2:10
SPEAKER_02: We used voice to text.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_02: I said, first home game.
• 2:14
SPEAKER_02: Voice to text heard something a little different.
• 2:17
SPEAKER_02: It removed one very important letter from the word game.
• 2:21
SPEAKER_02: And that is how I accidentally announced Highland Park's first home gay.
• 2:51
SPEAKER_02: To thank everyone who politely let me know.
• 2:54
SPEAKER_02: The lesson is very simple.
• 2:55
SPEAKER_02: Always proofread before posting or sending anything.
• 2:59
SPEAKER_02: Voice to text does not care about your reputation, it doesn't care about your brand, and it definitely does not care whether your teenager son has to face his friends later that evening.
• 3:09
SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, this is the first and last edition of Embarrassing Moments of the Week.
• 3:15
SPEAKER_02: We all feel that pinch of rising home insurance, don't we?
• 3:18
SPEAKER_02: But there is a solution, and it's closer than you think.
• 3:20
SPEAKER_02: Meet Kathy Lwall State Farm Agency.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_02: She's not just our trusted show sponsor, she's also the expert you need to navigate these unpredictable insurance waters.
• 3:29
SPEAKER_02: Why get lost in a maze of policies and rates?
• 3:32
SPEAKER_02: Kathy has a knack for simplifying it all.
• 3:34
SPEAKER_02: Call 214-350-2692 or stop by KathyLwall.com to schedule a meeting.
• 3:41

• 3:46
SPEAKER_02: We trust Kathy wholeheartedly, and once you chat with her, you'll see why.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_02: It's not just about rates, it's about trust, expertise, and peace of mind.
• 3:54
SPEAKER_02: So don't let rising homeowner insurance costs catch you off guard.
• 3:57
  SPEAKER_02: Contact Kathy L.
• 3:59
SPEAKER_02: Wall State Farm Agency now at 214-350-2692 or visit Kathy Lwall.com.
• 4:06
  SPEAKER_02: With Kathy L.
• 4:07
SPEAKER_02: Wall on your side, you'll have an agent you can trust and help secure your family's future.
• 4:13
SPEAKER_02: Now let's go around the bubble.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_02: Apparently, parking is becoming the unofficial competitive sport in the park cities.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_02: Highland Park has created three new resident-only parking districts.
• 4:25
SPEAKER_02: They cover the 3,100 and 3,200 blocks of Drexel Drive and the 5,400 block of Suwannee Avenue.
• 4:33
SPEAKER_02: The town council approved the districts after hearing from residents on both sides of the issue.
• 4:38
SPEAKER_02: Supporters pointed to the daily parking pressure connected to SMU traffic.
• 4:43
SPEAKER_02: Opponents questioned whether restricting these particular blocks would solve the problem or simply move the cars to other neighboring streets.
• 4:50
SPEAKER_02: That has not happened yet, as far as we know.
• 4:53
SPEAKER_02: It is simply one of the concerns residents raised and something people will be watching for.
• 4:58
SPEAKER_02: Parking is one of those issues that sounds very boring until someone parks in front of your house every day.
• 5:03
SPEAKER_02: Then suddenly you attend council meetings, studying maps, and using phrases like a residential parking district in casual conversation.
• 5:11
SPEAKER_02: And why Highland Park is creating resident-only districts, I have a completely different parking question for University Park.
• 5:18
SPEAKER_02: When did UP Elementary become a used car lot?
• 5:21
SPEAKER_02: Nearly every weekend, I notice one or two cars parked in spaces in front of the school with for sell signs in the windows.
• 5:29
SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying anyone's doing anything wrong.
• 5:31
SPEAKER_02: I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble.
• 5:33
SPEAKER_02: I am just simply curious, is this a known thing?
• 5:37
SPEAKER_02: Two people say, hey, I'm ready to sell the car.
• 5:40
SPEAKER_02: Take it over to UP Elementary and see what happens.
• 5:42
SPEAKER_02: Apparently, the school is now in kindergarten through fourth grade and certified pre-owned vehicles.
• 5:48
SPEAKER_02: Do the cars come with a Carfax report or just a note from the principal?
• 5:52
  SPEAKER_02: Is there financing available?
• 5:53
SPEAKER_02: Can I test drive one during recess?
• 5:56
SPEAKER_02: Again, I don't mean to be mean.
• 5:57
SPEAKER_02: I just simply have seen this enough times that I now want to understand the system.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_02: If anyone knows how our neighborhood elementary school became the weekend headquarters for cars being sold by owner, please let me know.
• 6:08
SPEAKER_02: Moving from cars to Camppeezes, we finally have an update on the longtime Dallas return.
• 6:14
SPEAKER_02: The Campizi's on Lovers Lane has been closed since a fire damaged the restaurant in December.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_02: Now the family says it plans to open a new location at 7709 Edwood Road, the former Kirch Bistro space in early 2027.
• 6:31
SPEAKER_02: In the meantime, a delivery-focused Campezi's kitchen is already operating on Royal Lane.
• 6:36
SPEAKER_02: Campezi's is one of those restaurants connected to generations of Dallas memories, so I know many of you will be happy to see it return.
• 6:43
SPEAKER_02: We will keep you posted on the new location getting closer to the opening.
• 6:47
SPEAKER_02: Finally, University Park residents have an important election coming up.
• 6:51
SPEAKER_02: On November 3rd, voters will consider Proposition A, which asks residents to approve a proposed city property tax rate.
• 6:59
SPEAKER_02: According to the city, the additional revenue would fund four additional police officers, two additional firefighters, public safety pension benefits, and technology for residential parking districts.
• 7:11
SPEAKER_02: For the city's median taxable residents, University Park estimates the increase would be approximately$193 per year.
• 7:20
SPEAKER_02: If the proposition does not pass, those supplemental items would be removed from the city's budget.
• 7:26
SPEAKER_02: We will talk more about proposition A as early voting gets closer.
• 7:31
SPEAKER_02: My goal is to make sure residents understand what is being proposed, what it would fund, and what it would cost.
• 7:37
SPEAKER_02: The deadline to register to vote is October 5th.
• 7:40
SPEAKER_02: Even if you think you're already registered, it never hurts to double check.
• 7:44
SPEAKER_02: I'll put a link in the show notes where you can confirm your voter registration status and read the city's complete explanation of Proposition A.
• 7:53
SPEAKER_02: Read the information, ask questions, make your own decision.
• 7:57
SPEAKER_02: But most importantly, make sure you're registered and make a plan to vote.
• 8:01
SPEAKER_02: Now it's time for good people doing good things.
• 8:04
SPEAKER_02: Saturday morning, I attended the very first Founding Fathers event benefiting Partners and Opportunity.
• 8:11
SPEAKER_02: Partners and Opportunity is a relatively new Dallas nonprofit working to help families break the cycle of poverty.
• 8:18
SPEAKER_02: The organization helps families with housing vouchers move into neighborhoods with strong schools, greater stability, and more opportunities for the children.
• 8:27
SPEAKER_02: But the work does not end after a family moves.
• 8:30
SPEAKER_02: Partners and Opportunity provides individualized support for two years to help families adjust, build stability, and remain in their new communities.
• 8:39
SPEAKER_02: I think that ongoing support is such an important part of the story.
• 8:43
SPEAKER_02: Moving a family into a different neighborhood can create an opportunity, helping them build a stable life there and what gives that opportunity a chance to last.
• 8:52
SPEAKER_02: Saturday's event brought fathers and children together to build bookcases and collect books for families served by the organization.
• 9:00
SPEAKER_02: And for the first year event benefiting a relatively new nonprofit, the turnout was amazing.
• 9:06
SPEAKER_02: The room was filled with dads, children, tools, books, and a very impressive number of completed bookcases.
• 9:14
SPEAKER_02: Some people were clearly more comfortable assembling the furniture than others.
• 9:18
SPEAKER_02: That is the risk you take when an event that involves fathers, children, and furniture instructions.
• 9:24
SPEAKER_02: But everyone was working together, and by the end, you could see the result lined up across the room.
• 9:29
SPEAKER_02: Before we go any further, I want you to hear from Anna Harper, the executive director of Partners and Opportunity, explaining why this work matters.
• 9:43
SPEAKER_00: And so, as part of that and supporting the mission, we wanted to rally people around us to support what we do for work.
• 9:49
SPEAKER_00: And so Founding Fathers was born out of just an idea and a passion for dads to get involved in dad-led service.
• 9:56
SPEAKER_02: What impressed me the most was how much Partners and Opportunity has already accomplished as a new organization.
• 10:02
SPEAKER_02: Launching a nonprofit is difficult.
• 10:05
SPEAKER_02: Launching an event is difficult.
• 10:06
SPEAKER_02: Convincing families to give up a Saturday morning and build furniture is not necessarily the easiest sales pitch.
• 10:13
SPEAKER_02: And yet the turnout was strong, the children were engaged, and the amount donated was remarkable.
• 10:18
SPEAKER_02: It was also impressive to see Clayton Kershaw and the Kershaw Family Foundation supporting the event during its first year.
• 10:24
SPEAKER_02: Clayton could attach his name to pretty much almost anything.
• 10:28
SPEAKER_02: His involvement immediately draws attention, gives a young organization credibility.
• 10:32
SPEAKER_02: But he didn't just simply put his name on the event.
• 10:35
  SPEAKER_02: He was there.
• 10:36
SPEAKER_02: He was speaking to families, encouraging the children, and helping everyone understand why this morning mattered.
• 10:42
SPEAKER_02: I asked Clayton why it was important to create an opportunity for fathers and children to serve together.
• 11:06
SPEAKER_02: What does it mean to give back to our community?
• 11:08
  SPEAKER_01: Well, it's amazing.
• 11:08
SPEAKER_01: You know, I think to be able to have your kids with you and be able to have these type of service projects is really special.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_01: And ultimately, your kids see what you do more than what you say.
• 11:17
SPEAKER_01: And so your actions speak louder than your words.
• 11:19
SPEAKER_01: And to be able to do something like this with your kids, to be able to build something for somebody else that might not have as much as you is special.
• 11:25
  SPEAKER_01: It's important.
• 11:26
SPEAKER_01: It's what God calls us to do.
• 11:27
SPEAKER_01: And um, groups like this, nonprofits like this are what we try to do and why we why we do it.
• 11:33
SPEAKER_02: That really stayed with me.
• 11:34
SPEAKER_02: We talk all the time about teaching our children to give back.
• 11:37
SPEAKER_02: We encourage them to volunteer.
• 11:39
SPEAKER_02: We tell them to be grateful.
• 11:41
SPEAKER_02: We sign them up for service projects.
• 11:43
SPEAKER_02: But there's a real difference between telling children that service matters and letting them see you doing it.
• 11:49
SPEAKER_02: When they see their fathers giving up a Saturday morning, working with their hands and helping a family they never met, that sends a powerful message and it's not a lecture.
• 11:58
SPEAKER_02: It was families spending time together, laughing, building something, and doing some good along the way.
• 12:03
SPEAKER_02: The bookcases in the book will be useful, but the examples set for the children who participated may be just as important.
• 12:11
SPEAKER_02: I'll be sharing separate videos from my conversation with Anna Harper and Clayton Kershaw in Instagram at Bubble Lounge Podcast.
• 12:18
SPEAKER_02: I hope you'll watch them, learn more about partners and opportunity, and follow the organization as it grows.
• 12:25
SPEAKER_02: Getting your business in front of Park City's families is one thing.
• 12:28
SPEAKER_02: Getting them to pay attention is another.
• 12:30
SPEAKER_02: That takes time, consistency, and trust.
• 12:33
SPEAKER_02: I've spent more than eight years building that relationship through the Bubble Lounge, and today thousands of local listeners and followers tune to us for recommendations about what's happening in our community.
• 12:43
SPEAKER_02: Want to put your business in front of them?
• 12:45
SPEAKER_02: Visit BubbleLounge.net and click Work With Us.
• 12:48
SPEAKER_02: It's time for the Scots report.
• 12:50
SPEAKER_02: The Scots are officially in the win column.
• 12:53
SPEAKER_02: Highland Park defeated Tyler 38 to 21 Friday night during the first home game of the season.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_02: And yes, that was the Tyler Lions.
• 13:01
SPEAKER_02: I have learned this was a much needed win after two extremely close losses to open the season.
• 13:07
SPEAKER_02: Buck Randall completed 21 of 30 passes for 358 yards and three touchdowns.
• 13:14
SPEAKER_02: Caden Reeves had 148 receiving yards.
• 13:17
SPEAKER_02: Liam Thomas caught two touchdown passes, and James Flowers added two rushing touchdowns.
• 13:22
SPEAKER_02: Buck Randall had already passed Matthew Stafford's Highland Park career records for passing yards and touchdown passes following the Rockwell Heath game.
• 13:30
SPEAKER_02: It is a remarkable accomplishment, especially when you consider the quarterback tradition at Highland Park.
• 13:37
SPEAKER_02: But the bigger story Friday was that the Scots played a complete game and finally got the result they had been fighting for.
• 13:43
SPEAKER_02: The crowd was extremely energetic, and I have to give all of you credit.
• 13:48
SPEAKER_02: When we interviewed the captains before the season, they had one very specific request.
• 13:52
SPEAKER_02: They wanted fans to stay after halftime, and it looked like you listen.
• 13:57
SPEAKER_02: The stands remained full, the students stayed involved, and the energy continued through the end of the game.
• 14:02
  SPEAKER_02: Great job.
• 14:03
  SPEAKER_02: Keep it up, guys.
• 14:04
SPEAKER_02: There's also a very funny moment after the game.
• 14:07
SPEAKER_02: A game on reporter appeared ready to conduct a post-game interview with Coach Allen when another reporter managed to get there first.
• 14:14
SPEAKER_02: What followed was a very polite but extremely awkward journalistic traffic jam.
• 14:20
SPEAKER_02: No one was doing anything wrong.
• 14:22
SPEAKER_02: Everyone was simply trying to do their job.
• 14:24
SPEAKER_02: But you could tell someone had been beaten to the interview by about five seconds, and five seconds apparently matters on the football sideline.
• 14:32
SPEAKER_02: If you've missed it, visit Game On Sports on YouTube and go to the end.
• 14:36
SPEAKER_02: This Friday, Highland Park travels to Argyle for what could be another high-scoring game.
• 14:42
SPEAKER_02: Argyle is ranked fifth in Class 5A Division II and is coming off a 70 to 21 win.
• 14:48
SPEAKER_02: Highland Park has returned to the rankings at number 10 in Class 5A Division I.
• 14:53
SPEAKER_02: Kickoff is Friday night at 7 p.m.
• 14:56
SPEAKER_02: at Eagle Stadium in Argyle.
• 14:58
SPEAKER_02: I won't be there because I'll be in Austin at my final Theta Parents weekend with Alexis.
• 15:04
SPEAKER_02: I have very mixed feelings about missing the game, but I will do my best to post quarterly score updates on our Instagram stories throughout the night.
• 15:11
SPEAKER_02: So if you can't make the trip to Argyle, keep checking Bubble Lounge Podcast for updates on our stories.
• 15:17
SPEAKER_02: And before we leave the Scots report, congratulations to senior Ryan Sontag, who won the elite varsity race at McKinney Boyd Broncos Stampede.
• 15:26
SPEAKER_02: The Lady Scots finished second as a team, just four points behind color.
• 15:31
SPEAKER_02: Football gets a lot of attention this time of year, but we have Highland Park athletes accomplishing oppressive things across many sports.
• 15:38
SPEAKER_02: Congratulations to Ryan and the entire cross-country team.
• 15:42
SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about three things to put on your calendar.
• 15:45
SPEAKER_02: The first item is happening today.
• 15:48
SPEAKER_02: Thursday, September 17th, is North Texas Giving Day.
• 15:52
SPEAKER_02: North Texas Giving Day is presented by Communities Foundation of Texas and has grown into one of the largest community-wide giving events in the country.
• 16:00
SPEAKER_02: Last year, more than 94,000 people gave$74.2 million to approximately 3,500 North Texas nonprofits.
• 16:10
SPEAKER_02: That is an incredible amount of money.
• 16:12
SPEAKER_02: But what I love about North Texas Giving Day is that it's not only about the large gifts.
• 16:17
SPEAKER_02: Thousands of smaller donations come together to make an enormous impact.
• 16:22
SPEAKER_02: If you already have an organization you love, today is a wonderful day to support it.
• 16:27
SPEAKER_02: If you're not sure where to give, go to North TexasGiving Day.org and search by the causes that matter to you.
• 16:34
SPEAKER_02: The second thing to put on your calendar is Kidney Texas Runway Report Luncheon and Fashion Show.
• 16:40
SPEAKER_02: This year's theme is Handbags and Heels.
• 16:42
SPEAKER_02: The event is Tuesday, September 22nd from 10:30 in the morning until 1.30 in the afternoon at the Ritz Carlton Dallas.
• 16:50
SPEAKER_02: Kidney Texas supports research, treatment, and prevention of kidney disease along with education about kidney health.
• 16:57
SPEAKER_02: Individual tickets are$550 and were still available when I checked.
• 17:02
SPEAKER_02: You can purchase tickets and learn more at kidneytexas.org.
• 17:07
SPEAKER_02: Now for our third item, we have a short save the day lightning round because September has decided that we no longer need free time.
• 17:15
SPEAKER_02: First, the Highland Park Football Kaniac Supper and Silent Auction is Friday, September 12th, before the Scots take on Nomin Force.
• 17:23
SPEAKER_02: Takeout is available from 4:30 to 6.
• 17:26
SPEAKER_02: Dine in is from 5 to 6.30 in the Highland Park High School cafeteria.
• 17:31
SPEAKER_02: Then everyone can walk over to Highlander Stadium for the game at 7 o'clock.
• 17:35
SPEAKER_02: I'll be sharing a video reminder from the football captains.
• 17:39
SPEAKER_02: The link is also in my Instagram bio, which will take you to get tickets and see the auction items.
• 17:46
SPEAKER_02: This is a really easy way to support Highland Park football, feed your family, and avoid trying to figure out dinner before the game.
• 17:53
SPEAKER_02: Also opening September 25th is the State Fair of Texas.
• 17:57
SPEAKER_02: The fair runs through October 18th.
• 18:00
SPEAKER_02: It is almost time for big techs, Fletcher's Corny Dogs, questionable food decisions, and spending a surprising amount of money to win a stuffed animal no one wants to carry home.
• 18:09
SPEAKER_02: We'll talk more about the fair next week.
• 18:12
SPEAKER_02: Finally, Partner's Card returns October 23rd through November 1st.
• 18:17
SPEAKER_02: The card costs$100 and gives you 20% off at participating retailers and 10% at participating restaurants.
• 18:26
SPEAKER_02: More than 750 Dallas Fort Worth businesses participate.
• 18:29
SPEAKER_02: The money supports the Family Place and its work providing shelter and services to survivors of family violence.
• 18:36
SPEAKER_02: This is one of those rare situations where you can help an important organization and possibly save more than you spend on the card.
• 18:43
SPEAKER_02: You can purchase your card and see participating businesses at familyplace.org.
• 18:48
SPEAKER_02: And now it's time for Martha's take.
• 18:50
SPEAKER_02: This weekend I'm heading to Austin for my final UT Theta Parents Weekend with Alexis.
• 18:56
SPEAKER_02: I've been looking forward to it.
• 18:58
SPEAKER_02: I've also been studying the schedule and wondering whether middle-aged parents receive a designated nap period.
• 19:04
SPEAKER_02: Because apparently College Parents Weekend is not designed for people who need sleep.
• 19:08
SPEAKER_02: We begin Friday afternoon with appetizers and drinks at ABBA.
• 19:12
SPEAKER_02: ABBA is an Austin restaurant that will also be opening in Dallas soon.
• 19:16
SPEAKER_02: So naturally I consider this research for the podcast.
• 19:19
SPEAKER_02: I'm always working, you know, even if I'm holding a cocktail.
• 19:23
SPEAKER_02: Friday night is the Theta Parents Party with food, drinks, and Lun Live Band.
• 19:27
SPEAKER_02: And from what I understand, a fairly late evening, of course.
• 19:31
SPEAKER_02: At some point, the students usually decide their parents should visit fraternity houses with them.
• 19:36
SPEAKER_02: Nothing makes you feel younger than being invited to a fraternity house.
• 19:40
SPEAKER_02: And nothing makes you feel older than actually arriving at one.
• 19:44
SPEAKER_02: Saturday begins with brunch with friends and parents.
• 19:47
SPEAKER_02: Then there are Telgates at the Theta House and many others.
• 19:51
SPEAKER_02: And then the game is at 7 o'clock.
• 19:53
SPEAKER_02: And then of course, after the game, there are apparently more after parties.
• 19:58
  SPEAKER_02: Then we reach Sunday.
• 19:59
SPEAKER_02: According to my current plan, Sunday involves waking up, gathering our things, and driving home.
• 20:05
SPEAKER_02: Based on all previous experience, Sunday will actually involve another brunch, at least one change plan, and someone saying, Wait, you're leaving early?
• 20:14
SPEAKER_02: This is how Parents Weekend works.
• 20:16
SPEAKER_02: Parents arrive with dinner reservations, carefully planned outfits, and a complete itinerary.
• 20:22
SPEAKER_02: The students may or might not have received the memo that this weekend is in fact Parents Weekend.
• 20:27
SPEAKER_02: They still have friends, they still have plans, they still have parties, telegates, and whatever emergency has also come up.
• 20:34
SPEAKER_02: And sometimes that can be difficult when you're a parent.
• 20:37
SPEAKER_02: You have spent weeks planning the trip.
• 20:40
SPEAKER_02: You have booked the hotel.
• 20:41
SPEAKER_02: You have made the reservations.
• 20:43
SPEAKER_02: You may have bought a new outfit.
• 20:45
SPEAKER_02: You have driven or flown to go see your kid.
• 20:48
SPEAKER_02: And then your kid says, I'll meet you later.
• 20:51
SPEAKER_02: As if you just happened to be passing through Austin and thought you might stop by.
• 20:55
SPEAKER_02: I learned the hard way that the most important things to bring to Parents' Weekend are comfortable shoes, flexibility, and a lot of grace.
• 21:02
SPEAKER_02: You have to accept that your child is still living a regular college weekend, even though you have placed this weekend in capital letters on your calendar.
• 21:10
SPEAKER_02: You also have to remember that what feels like a major family event to a middle-aged parent may feel like one or more busy weekends to a college student.
• 21:19
SPEAKER_02: That does not mean that they're not happy to see you, though.
• 21:22
SPEAKER_02: It means they're in college.
• 21:24
SPEAKER_02: And their concept of a reasonable schedule is very different from yours.
• 21:28
SPEAKER_02: There is one thing I am hoping to accomplish this weekend, though.
• 21:34
SPEAKER_02: I have a connection in the Silver Spurs.
• 21:36
SPEAKER_02: For anyone who's not familiar with the Silver Spurs, they are the honorary service organization at UT.
• 21:43
SPEAKER_02: They were established in 1937 and they have been entrusted with caring for and transporting Bivo since 1945.
• 21:51
SPEAKER_02: I've been joking with my friend that I expect to meet Bivo before the game.
• 21:55
  SPEAKER_02: I don't really think it's an unreasonable request.
• 21:57
SPEAKER_02: I'm not asking to ride Bivo.
• 21:59
SPEAKER_02: I'm not asking to bring him home.
• 22:01
SPEAKER_02: Although it would probably look pretty cool in my front yard and university park.
• 22:05
SPEAKER_02: I just want to meet him and get a quick photo.
• 22:08
SPEAKER_02: I have worked very hard to approach this parents' weekend with Grace and no expectations because I have learned the hard way.
• 22:15
  SPEAKER_02: Except for meeting Bivo.
• 22:16
SPEAKER_02: On that issue, my expectations remain very high.
• 22:20
SPEAKER_02: But underneath the pack schedule, the change plans, and the Bivo negotiations, I know this weekend will feel different.
• 22:26
SPEAKER_02: This is my final Parents' Weekend with Alexis.
• 22:29
SPEAKER_02: There have been so many school events over the years that at the time felt like they could continue forever.
• 22:35
SPEAKER_02: Elementary school programs, dance recitals, bells events, football games, move-in weekends, and now, suddenly, we're reaching the last college parents' weekend.
• 22:44
SPEAKER_02: So I'm going to try not to worry too much about whether everything follows the schedule.
• 22:49
SPEAKER_02: I'm just going to enjoy the appetizers, the drinks, the party, the band, the telegates, the game, and whatever happens afterwards.
• 22:55
SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to try to give Alexis grace when our plans are not necessarily her plans.
• 23:00
SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to remind myself that someday I may actually miss trying to keep up with a group of college students in Austin.
• 23:06
  SPEAKER_02: Maybe.
• 23:07
  SPEAKER_02: Who knows?
• 23:09
SPEAKER_02: Ask me again on Sunday morning.
• 23:11
SPEAKER_02: Well, that's it for this week's Bubble Lounge.
• 23:13
SPEAKER_02: You can find links for North Texas Giving Day, Kidney, Texas, Kaniac Supper, Partners Card, Voter Registration, and University Park Proposition A in the show notes.
• 23:24
SPEAKER_02: Follow Bubble Lounge Podcast on Instagram for my interviews with Anna Harper and Clayton Kershaw, along with score updates from the Highland Park Argyll game Friday night.
• 23:33
SPEAKER_02: And if anyone knows why cars are being sold in front of UP Elementary, I need answers.
• 23:39
  SPEAKER_02: Thanks for listening.
• 23:40
SPEAKER_02: I'm Martha Jackson, and I'll see you next time in the Bubble Lounge.
