- 0:02Tad Eggleston: Hey everyone, welcome back to 22 Panels. This is the podcast that aims to examine, explore, and elevate the medium of comics. I am Tyler, sitting here with Tad, and across the interwebs from us.
- 0:17Tad Eggleston: is Phil! What's up, Phil?
- 0:19Phil: What? Hey, how'd you do that? How'd you get there?
- 0:22Tad Eggleston: Well, it's… it was… it was really fun, because Tad called my store last night, and then my wife answered. It was…
- 0:31Tad Eggleston: It was tough, because, like, there aren't a lot of… there aren't a lot of buildings and trees for web swinging between… between,
- 0:41Tad Eggleston: Round Lake and La Verne, but we made it work.
- 0:45Tad Eggleston: So then Tad came and visited this evening, and then, hung around till we could do the podcast. Yeah, yeah.
- 0:54Tad Eggleston: Well, I…
- 0:55Phil: I, you know…
- 0:56Tad Eggleston: We are grooming live from the Nexus Vault and from Phil's living room. Yep, Phil… Except that we're not live. We're live on tape delay.
- 1:06Tad Eggleston: Bill's house and my store.
- 1:08Phil: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:09Tad Eggleston: This is a Spider-Man clock. I do. My mom bought it. He has a Spider-Man clock.
- 1:14Phil: That's exciting.
- 1:15Tad Eggleston: Yep. Let's see if we can get it in the picture for the viewers.
- 1:18Phil: Oh, awesome.
- 1:19Tad Eggleston: That is…
- 1:20Tad Eggleston: None of you.
- 1:20Phil: Spiderman.
- 1:21Tad Eggleston: That's… well, that's the joke.
- 1:23Phil: Stop!
- 1:24Phil: Alright.
- 1:26Tad Eggleston: Let's get down to business, fellas! So,
- 1:31Tad Eggleston: New York City Department of Education Civics for All Comics Group, which.
- 1:36Phil: Sweet.
- 1:36Tad Eggleston: which we've featured recently, because Henry Barajas did a couple of books for them that good… good trouble is collecting
- 1:45Tad Eggleston: Soon, they, they released a book this week called Know Your Rights.
- 1:52Tad Eggleston: From Alex Segura and David Hahn to inform readers of their rights when confronted by DHS and or ICE.
- 2:04Tad Eggleston: Fantastic. So, those are also… All available as free downloads, all of the Civics for All.
- 2:11Tad Eggleston: Comics Group comics are available as free downloads from the New York City Department of Education website, so just
- 2:22Tad Eggleston: Little Civics for All comics group. Right. And you'll get there. Yep.
- 2:27Phil: the dark thought that goes through my mind right now is, like, you know, imagine myself 10 years ago if, you know, I had sent a message through time and been like, hey, guess what? In 10 years, Trump's gonna be president AGAIN.
- 2:41Phil: how big of a, you know, a mindfuck that would be. Comparatively, I'm hoping that 10 years from now, we don't look back on this moment and say, hey, remember when we had rights?
- 2:51Tad Eggleston: We might.
- 2:53Tad Eggleston: I mean…
- 2:54Tad Eggleston: I don't think it's far-fetched to think that… that… I sometimes think that now, regarding where we are from 10 years ago.
- 3:04Phil: I mean, comparatively, yeah, a lot.
- 3:05Tad Eggleston: You're right.
- 3:06Phil: away.
- 3:06Tad Eggleston: Phil, in 2015, I would have never thought in 2026.
- 3:11Phil: Yeah.
- 3:11Tad Eggleston: that we would still be Donald Trump era.
- 3:15Phil: Yeah.
- 3:15Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 3:15Phil: Holy shit.
- 3:16Tad Eggleston: I mean, we all thought we'd be past his lunacy, right?
- 3:19Phil: Right.
- 3:20Tad Eggleston: In 2015, he was running for president. We all knew that this was crazy. We all knew that there was no way he was gonna win.
- 3:27Phil: Well…
- 3:27Tad Eggleston: Exactly.
- 3:28Phil: I mean, that was.
- 3:30Tad Eggleston: We all knew that until, like, a couple hours before he actually won.
- 3:33Phil: Right.
- 3:35Phil: And, like, just, I don't know, I remember that time feeling that I'm like.
- 3:39Phil: an emotional seesaw of, like, worried that it could happen, and then having moments of, like, no, it's not gonna happen, it's fine. And then something else happens, you're like, oh shit, it's back on the table, it's within possibility.
- 3:51Tad Eggleston: Yo.
- 3:51Phil: But yeah, yeah.
- 3:53Tad Eggleston: I don't discredit anything like that. Phil, we're not too. What kind of week has it been yet?
- 3:58Phil: That's fair, that's fair.
- 4:00Tad Eggleston: We have cool comics news before we get to what kind of week has it been.
- 4:05Phil: Let's not undersell how cool this news is, too.
- 4:07Tad Eggleston: Okay, I have a side note to this once you introduce this here. Okay.
- 4:13Tad Eggleston: Batman, Superman, and Weird Al. Okay.
- 4:18Phil: That's right.
- 4:18Tad Eggleston: Alright, so Weird Al is doing, shows soon, this fall, I believe. I know, I think Kelly and I have tickets for Madison.
- 4:29Tad Eggleston: I just got asked if I wanted to go, I believe Minneapolis is what I was asked. Okay. Yeah. So… The answer is yes, Tyler. Go, you go, I'll go, we'll… we'll compare notes. Yeah, no, I've been a couple of times. Okay. His band is ridiculous. They're good.
- 4:46Tad Eggleston: Yeah. They're really good. Actually, my favorite show of his that I've been to is we went to his ill-advised, or self-indulgent ill-advised vanity tour.
- 4:57Tad Eggleston: Where he… he only played his original songs, rather than.
- 5:03Phil: Wow.
- 5:03Tad Eggleston: parodies. And he's a really good songwriter.
- 5:06Phil: I believe it, yeah.
- 5:09Tad Eggleston: Okay, so what's this book about? Batman, Superman, Weird Al, World's Weirdest? Does it matter? No, but I mean, like, what's the…
- 5:17Phil: I mean, honestly.
- 5:18Tad Eggleston: seeing Ms. Batman Superman?
- 5:21Phil: So…
- 5:21Tad Eggleston: I think… do I still have it up from the beat? I still have it up from the beat. What I have is it has vibes from Weird Al himself.
- 5:28Phil: Yeah.
- 5:30Phil: I mean…
- 5:31Tad Eggleston: And it looks like it's got some, some Mr. Mystic-type guys playing… Kazoo, guitar, and accordion.
- 5:41Phil: Interesting.
- 5:42Tad Eggleston: The fifth dimension is being hit with an affliction that turns everything dull and ordinary, but Mr. Mixplick… Mixelplix. Mixelplick.
- 5:51Tad Eggleston: reaches out to Superman and Batman for help. The same plague has struck Earth, and instead of dialing H for hero, there's only one person to call. Weird Al.
- 6:03Tad Eggleston: Get ready for a wild one-shot where the one and only Weird Al Yankovic joins the world's finest team. That's hilarious.
- 6:12Phil: And here I was hoping that, like, Weird Al would get to, like, update the dialogue on an old.
- 6:17Tad Eggleston: Oh.
- 6:18Phil: A discount. You know, with his…
- 6:21Tad Eggleston: I love the Batman in the button-down. This one's pretty good, too.
- 6:26Phil: once.
- 6:27Tad Eggleston: Oh my goodness.
- 6:28Phil: For once.
- 6:28Tad Eggleston: his hay.
- 6:29Phil: Chad and Tyler are able to communicate without screen share, so I'm… I'm in the same boat as you, dear listeners.
- 6:36Tad Eggleston: We're leaving Phil off!
- 6:40Phil: Damn it! I knew I should have driven last night, damn it!
- 6:43Tad Eggleston: I told… hey, I gave you enough notice that you could have been here.
- 6:50Tad Eggleston: Alright, you can… you can see… Okay, we… this was the first one that I was showing him that…
- 6:58Phil: Okay, yeah, this is, this is, Batman and Superman in, button-down shirts with their classic logos on it, weird owl, hanging out between them.
- 7:07Tad Eggleston: And this one was pretty cool.
- 7:09Phil: That does look.
- 7:10Tad Eggleston: Nobody in the hair.
- 7:11Phil: Yep, yep, everyone's trapped in, that's, Riley Rossma, it looks like? I think so.
- 7:17Phil: Yes, yeah. Then there's… Alright.
- 7:22Tad Eggleston: There's that one.
- 7:23Phil: Alright, you know, that's… that wouldn't have been my fashion choice, but .
- 7:27Tad Eggleston: Okay, okay, this next one… There's Mixoplix. We hadn't gotten to the best part.
- 7:33Phil: Huh.
- 7:34Tad Eggleston: before Phil complained that, that, that he, he wasn't included. So Tyler, Tyler, they're also, they're again wearing, wearing, Superman and Batman Hawaiian shirts.
- 7:47Phil: Yeah, that's pretty… that's even better than the last ones.
- 7:49Tad Eggleston: But… but…
- 7:50Phil: Oh, that's great. Oh, wow.
- 7:52Tad Eggleston: U.D.
- 7:54Phil: Okay.
- 7:54Tad Eggleston: I love it!
- 7:55Phil: And that's right over.
- 7:56Tad Eggleston: Right? It's a brag about the most mediocre, viewing form, right?
- 8:01Phil: Being the ocean.
- 8:02Tad Eggleston: 2D, I'm gonna do.
- 8:03Phil: Greedy!
- 8:04Tad Eggleston: Also, the placement of the 2D.
- 8:07Phil: Right over, right over Little.
- 8:08Tad Eggleston: Oh!
- 8:08Phil: Little weirdo.
- 8:09Tad Eggleston: Got it.
- 8:11Phil: Yep. I mean, the guys have their underoos, Al had to have something to compensate.
- 8:17Tad Eggleston: So yeah, that's the good news. Now, Phil, if you want to be Debbie Downer, you can… you can…
- 8:23Phil: Oh, God.
- 8:24Tad Eggleston: You can get into what kind of week has it been.
- 8:26Phil: What kind of week has it been, Tad? I mean, you've been traveling, so that's exciting, at least.
- 8:31Tad Eggleston: I mean, I will toss out that, there, there was a, like…
- 8:37Tad Eggleston: This is just funny as fuck. Like, I like to share my news sources. My,
- 8:46Tad Eggleston: I like strict scrutiny, but I also like balls and strikes for court watching.
- 8:52Tad Eggleston: And today's balls and strikes.
- 8:55Tad Eggleston: Talking about the Senate must not confirm any more judges.
- 9:02Tad Eggleston: But it specifically tells the story.
- 9:07Tad Eggleston: of, judge Ryan Nelson of the Ninth Circuit.
- 9:15Tad Eggleston: Who's facing criminal charges in Idaho.
- 9:18Tad Eggleston: stemming from his participation in a time-honored quintessential American ritual.
- 9:25Tad Eggleston: Starting a fight about a parking space in a mostly empty parking lot.
- 9:31Phil: Wow.
- 9:31Phil: It's incredible.
- 9:32Tad Eggleston: Here's the picture of how he parked his truck.
- 9:37Phil: Clearly in three… in three spaces, although there are… Totally the.
- 9:41Tad Eggleston: way that the drivers of big trucks park their trucks everywhere.
- 9:46Phil: However, there are also 2 empty spaces, 3 empty spaces on either side of this monstrous.
- 9:51Tad Eggleston: This is true, this is true. So, the, the, the other person involved, since they're the victim, they're only being referred to as Bewildered Bald Guy.
- 10:03Phil: Ha!
- 10:04Tad Eggleston: Came and parked his truck like this.
- 10:08Phil: Wow, immediately next to the poorly parked first truck. Right, right. Albeit not any better, also being well over the line.
- 10:16Tad Eggleston: Well, because he had to be, because there wasn't room for him.
- 10:20Phil: He couldn't have left space in between.
- 10:22Tad Eggleston: Apparently said to him, da-da-da-da… Learn to park.
- 10:34Phil: Okay.
- 10:34Tad Eggleston: This, this prompted the judge
- 10:39Tad Eggleston: The judge to slap his glasses off of him, And… and stomp on them.
- 10:48Phil: Oh, my.
- 10:50Tad Eggleston: Whoa!
- 10:50Phil: Alright.
- 10:51Tad Eggleston: He denied touching him, which would be border… as Jay Willis points out, would be borderline superhuman fine motor skills.
- 10:59Phil: Right?
- 11:00Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 11:02Phil: Snatched the glass for fresh.
- 11:04Tad Eggleston: prosecutors from charging him with battery and malicious injury to property, which in Idaho are misdemeanors punishable by fines of up to $1,000 and jail terms of 6 months and 12 months, respectively. So he's looking at up to 18 months jail time. However.
- 11:20Tad Eggleston: being that this is the United States of America, and he is a, a, a…
- 11:25Tad Eggleston: a justice, he's still hearing cases. Wow.
- 11:30Phil: Ow!
- 11:31Tad Eggleston: Well…
- 11:31Phil: Oh, because he has.
- 11:32Tad Eggleston: life-year tenure unless he's impeached, which means that 30… And they're not impeaching him, so… You'd have to have 66 senators willing to remove him from office. Are we about to see…
- 11:43Phil: American Jail Court?
- 11:45Tad Eggleston: I don't know. I don't know, but here's the great thing. BEFORE he became
- 11:54Tad Eggleston: a lifeyard… lifetime tenure justice. Apparently, he had logged at least 28 traffic citations, including in 2011, where police clocked him driving a Hyundai Elantra on the freeway at 100 miles an hour.
- 12:13Phil: Places to be.
- 12:15Tad Eggleston: Well, no, the quote from Jay Willis is, as a former Hyundai Elantra owner myself, I honestly did not think it was possible for one to attain such a speed without Susan Sarandon and Gina Davis driving it off a cliff first. Yeah, how in the world did…
- 12:32Phil: Incredible!
- 12:34Phil: Oh, I bet that thing was shaken… shaken apart.
- 12:38Phil: like a… Glad.
- 12:40Tad Eggleston: So, so, welcome, welcome to the Trump judiciary.
- 12:44Phil: Oh.
- 12:45Tad Eggleston: Yeah, no, like, it's worth going to Balls and Strikes so you can see these pictures.
- 12:51Tad Eggleston: Like, yes, the judge paired incredibly poorly, but it's not like there aren't lots of other spots in the lot.
- 13:02Phil: Right?
- 13:03Phil: Oh, you know, this…
- 13:05Tad Eggleston: This was… this was… this was big guy in a… or… or guy in a… actually, they both look kind of little. So, little guy in a big black truck versus little guy in a big white truck, is essentially what this boiled down to.
- 13:21Phil: This was a small off, if you know what I mean.
- 13:25Tad Eggleston: So yeah, and tying it back to comics, you know, Nate Powell wrote about that kind of truck in, in, Save It For Later.
- 13:35Tad Eggleston: available now, I think, from Top Shelf.
- 13:38Tad Eggleston: Does that sound right?
- 13:39Phil: That sounds like a familiar title.
- 13:43Tad Eggleston: It's been out for a while.
- 13:45Tad Eggleston: Anyway… Also,
- 13:50Tad Eggleston: we had another one of those, oh, the war's almost over, says the President of the United States. And the people in Iran say, stay what?
- 14:01Phil: Alright, nobody is…
- 14:03Tad Eggleston: We didn't get that memo. Also, apparently, a proportional response to a helicopter going down, and nobody dying, and the helicopter might have gone down because it hit one of our own drones.
- 14:19Tad Eggleston: Might have been one of their drones, might have been one of our drones, at least the last time I was reading anything about it, it wasn't 100% clear. Right. The proportional response, and he even dropped, like.
- 14:31Tad Eggleston: West Wing clip about proportional response. You clearly didn't watch the whole episode.
- 14:38Tad Eggleston: Was to knock out the clean water for 20,000 people.
- 14:43Phil: Wow.
- 14:45Tad Eggleston: What?
- 14:47Phil: You know?
- 14:48Tad Eggleston: Because nothing, nothing says…
- 14:53Tad Eggleston: Greet us as your saviors, like, we're gonna kill civilians by taking away their fresh drinking water.
- 15:00Phil: I was about to say that, you know, from a certain perspective, every president is a war criminal, but never has it been so clear so quickly.
- 15:09Tad Eggleston: I don't know about every president. I imagine there are some that it would be hard to pin it on, but certainly not in my lifetime.
- 15:17Phil: Right.
- 15:18Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 15:19Phil: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:22Phil: does it, it's not a war crime. I don't know.
- 15:24Tad Eggleston: I mean, honestly, like, I love Barack Obama, but if the trade I had to make to see Trump in front of The Hague was that we had to see Obama in front of The Hague, too…
- 15:37Phil: Yeah, it's a hard… it's a hard, I, I, yeah, that's a…
- 15:40Tad Eggleston: I would have more confidence that Trump would leave prison, or that Obama would leave prison at some time during his lifetime. Right.
- 15:51Phil: Yeah, I mean, I think this, this is, that's one of those, need to, need to do more research on how the Nazi trials actually went before considering, you know.
- 16:01Phil: trying them again.
- 16:05Tad Eggleston: It didn't go as well as I would have liked.
- 16:08Phil: Exactly, so, you know.
- 16:11Phil: You know.
- 16:13Tad Eggleston: And it doesn't mean we can't do better.
- 16:16Phil: Right, right, that too. That too.
- 16:19Phil: Absolutely.
- 16:21Tad Eggleston: I mean… Yeah, but the war's over.
- 16:24Phil: Goodbye.
- 16:24Tad Eggleston: That was actually one of, one of the, relax. One of the lessons in… in Ruckus Forged this week, was that, like…
- 16:34Tad Eggleston: It's a distinct lack of imagination if you believe that anything you can imagine your opponent can imagine and will do to you.
- 16:45Tad Eggleston: Like, you know, an inability to imagine that your opponent might also have morals.
- 16:52Phil: Right.
- 16:55Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 16:57Tad Eggleston: It becomes a race to the bottom.
- 16:59Tad Eggleston: Yeah. So, anyway… Screw all that.
- 17:04Tad Eggleston: I'm ready to talk comics. Let's do it. Let's get into some initial orders. Due on June 25th.
- 17:12Tad Eggleston: I think Tyler's up first. Yeah, this, I looked at this one because it said Black Tower, and I thought Stephen King. But Black Tower, The Raven Conspiracy from Ram V and Mike Perkins.
- 17:26Tad Eggleston: Out from DC, occult warfare is a fantasy, or is that what they want you to think? 23-year-old Darren Burroughs out of Audubon, Pennsylvania, is a gifted rookie sent under the guise
- 17:40Tad Eggleston: of a diplomatic aide to train with Division IX, an obscure, outdated, and easily dismissed arm of British intelligence that specializes in dealing with paranormal incidents. In the right sort of spy circles, they're known by a different, more feared name.
- 17:57Tad Eggleston: Black Tower. Yeah, I don't know which spy circles those are.
- 18:04Phil: Alright, next up there is Eclipse of Moms, a one-shot from Will Tempest, with strangers.
- 18:12Tad Eggleston: At strangers.
- 18:13Phil: At Strangers, the festival has arrived. Discard your inhibitions and exalt in the feral display of excess. Eclipse of Moths is a body horror created by Will Tempest, presented by Strangers Publishing, in fervorous full color, alongside a new additional short horror tale, Little Worm. Let go and be swept up in this carnival of horrors. That's gonna have a fire order cutoff of that
- 18:38Phil: July 13th, in stores, August 5th.
- 18:42Tad Eggleston: The Last Driver, number one, from Sean Murphy and Simon Goff.
- 18:47Tad Eggleston: A technology in America. You skipped over my Lancer.
- 18:53Tad Eggleston: Oh, okay, fine. Alright, so, Chad was so eager, he didn't realize I had one before him. Yeah, you get to go twice before I get to go once. Answer!
- 19:04Tad Eggleston: Lance here from Mike Casa and Jake Baker from Bad Idea. In the near future, if you need extra cash, you open an app, accept a hunt, get paid to exterminate whatever dangerous species is overrunning your part of the world.
- 19:20Tad Eggleston: Coyotes in California, king cobras in Mumbay, feral camels in Australia, and vampire bats in Brazil. If it threatens people, property, or profit, Lancer puts a bounty on its head. This reminds me, wait, first, final, we're cut off of July 13th, and then out August 7th.
- 19:40Tad Eggleston: 12th.
- 19:41Tad Eggleston: This reminds me of that one app where you could, like, put a price on someone's head.
- 19:47Tad Eggleston: The Crowded. Crowded, yes. That… that was a great show… great… great show. Great album. Great…
- 19:57Tad Eggleston: Great run. That was Christopher Sibela and, and Ted and Ro. Yes. Great statement. We talked about that recently on, on, on Joy…
- 20:07Tad Eggleston: Showing resistance, hope, and survival. If you guys showed up for the book clubs, you'd know these things.
- 20:12Phil: I, I do know that you had a disjointed, cast reunion, because you got 10 row at one time, and then…
- 20:18Phil: Isabella at another time, so yeah.
- 20:19Tad Eggleston: Which meant that there were multiple opportunities to show up for that book club. I was there in spirit.
- 20:26Tad Eggleston: Alright, now we'll talk last… the last driver, number one, from Sean Murphy and Simon Goff.
- 20:33Tad Eggleston: At Image Comics, as technology in America advanced, cities began creating the Grid, a robotic transportation system that not only made cars obsolete, it made them illegal.
- 20:45Tad Eggleston: But an outlaw named Clutch has no choice but to get behind the wheel one more time. What starts out as a race to save his granddaughter's life quickly turns into a rebellion against technology, fascism, and the future of a divided America.
- 21:01Tad Eggleston: Final order cutoff of July 27th, and in-stores on August 19th.
- 21:07Phil: Next up, witness the hunter become the hunted in the next hair-raising chapter of a groundbreaking, all-new horror universe. From the twisted minds of rising superstar artist and creative visionary Mannix Abrera, New York Times best-selling writer Robert Venditti, and acclaimed indie horror director Brockton McKinney. With an arsenal of top-of-the-line weaponry at his fingertips and a crack team of expert guides.
- 21:32Phil: his beck and call. No beast is a match for the man they call the hunter. That is, until he finds himself face to face with an ancient creature deep in the heart of the African savannah, one thought to be of myth and legend. The hunter will soon find out that no one can withstand the unforgiving jaws of the undead, and no man can escape
- 21:50Phil: The re-alligator. Re-alligator, number one, a bad idea, with final order cutoff of July 6th, in stores, August 5th.
- 22:00Tad Eggleston: Oh man, you have me on the edge of my seat.
- 22:02Phil: The whole time.
- 22:03Tad Eggleston: I was like, whoa, what is this story called? Come on, come on, what is it called? What is it called? The re-alligator, that is pretty interesting.
- 22:11Phil: Interesting. Alligator again. This time, this time with, it's like a zombie alligator thing.
- 22:16Tad Eggleston: Yumi00X number 1 from Doug Wagner and Hoyt Silva. Yumi is in love. Yumi is lethal. When her MI6 boyfriend disappears, Yumi storms the agency, hacking their network, dismantling their operatives, and setting everything on fire.
- 22:33Tad Eggleston: There, she finds her first ally, a fully AI Lamborghini that's built less like a car and more like a WMD. The anti-spy thriller begins here.
- 22:45Tad Eggleston: How about some graphic novels? Alright. Break from Kayla Miller from HarperCollins. Olive is less than excited to be spending spring break stuck with her dad. Will she be able to make the most of her trip, or will everything break apart?
- 23:02Tad Eggleston: Spring break is full of possibilities, but not for Olive. This year, Olive is leaving her friends and all of their exciting vacation plans behind to visit her dad at his new apartment in the city.
- 23:15Tad Eggleston: Goober is thrilled to spend a whole week with their father, and has a long list of activities for their time together. Olive, on the other hand, still remembers the hurt of their dad moving halfway across the world
- 23:29Tad Eggleston: She would rather spend time with her friend Bree, or scrolling through her new phone to keep up with everything she's missing back home than catch up with him. This is gonna be, final order cutoff of July 6th, out August 5th.
- 23:46Tad Eggleston: Alright, I actually read an advanced copy of this first one this morning, and it was really, really good.
- 23:53Tad Eggleston: Earth to Chris Clevy from Christoph Bogox.
- 23:57Tad Eggleston: and Hannah Krieger from HarperCollins, Chris Clevey's out-of-this-world imagination has always been fueled by his love for sci-fi. Thankfully, simple routines like tying his shoelaces and picking out his socks have kept him grounded right here on Earth. But this carefully constructed world is shifted when his mom brings home her new boyfriend, Phil.
- 24:16Tad Eggleston: Despite Phil's friendly demeanor, Chris becomes convinced Phil's a member of a mind-controlling alien race from one of his science fiction stories. As the world becomes harder and harder to navigate, Chris discovers the source controlling his behaviors.
- 24:30Tad Eggleston: May have a different, more earthly origin.

- 24:42Phil: Alright, next up, there's Fun Girl Forever by Elizabeth Pitch with… er, from Silver Sprocket. So, what is Fungirl up to these days? Well, she's definitely changed, although that may be a little hard to believe when you see her
- 24:58Phil: on the side of the road, giving mouth-to-mouth to a dead puppy. She's still living with her
- 25:03Phil: precious roommate Peter, who's still in a long-distance relationship with Becky. But when Fun Girl unexpectedly runs into her former boss Adam, now spiraling into depression, and in mortal danger from the turtle-racing mafia, she jumps in to help him.
- 25:17Phil: Is that a good idea? Almost certainly not. While you can count on Fun Girl to be a loyal, big-hearted friend, you're never far from being pulled into her ever-widening black hole of chaos. That's gonna have a final order cutoff of June 29th in stores August 5th.

- 26:30Phil: Alrighty, Death Fight Forever by Andrew McLeon, Alexis Zurit, Al Gopher, Sam McKenzie, and Erwin Papa from Image Comics. The world is a harsh place, rife with greed, malice, and corruption. It's a world won in blood and botan gasoline, a world ripe for the taking.
- 26:49Phil: The transdimensional demon Lord Slither aims to do just that, and he'll crush anyone who gets in his way. Of Slyther's countless victims, Super Thief, Bash Biggie, and ex-Slyther loyalist Sergeant Marla Mendoza may be the only two uniquely gifted enough to stop.
- 27:06Phil: These would-be enemies are fueled by a burning desire for revenge, and are ready to chase Lord Slyther to the ends of the universe to reclaim their lives. But first, they'll have to set aside their pasts and learn to work together. Buckle up, Buttercup, we're about to get weird with it. That's gonna have a final order cutoff of July 20th in shops, August 12th.
- 27:26Tad Eggleston: Buttercup. My daughter said that to me this morning. Something about, like, hurry up, buttercup, or something.

- 31:14Tad Eggleston: I think I've talked to everybody but Daryl Cunningham and Jimmy Lee, and everybody about this particular Kickstarter except for Tiffany Babb.
- 31:24Phil: Oh, there you go.
- 31:25Tad Eggleston: But it was a different comics courier for Tiffany Babb, so, you know.
- 31:29Phil: It was close, close as he was.
- 31:30Tad Eggleston: still plays. Yeah. And Andrew's coming back with Zuzu.
- 31:34Phil: There you go. Okay.
- 31:36Tad Eggleston: We'll get a second one. Before I go into the Humble Bundles tab, when do you think that it's, Friday night right now? When do you think you'll have this posted? I will probably have it up.
- 31:51Tad Eggleston: On Sunday. On Sunday, so this will be done, but… Which one? Oh, I just wanted to point out, because this one is really good, Infinite Dread Horror Comics. Yeah, I took that off, because it was going to be done. Yup, it's gonna be done in 16 hours, but you will miss it.
- 32:08Tad Eggleston: Well, but we have talked about it for, like, the last 3 or 4 weeks. I know. If they miss it, that's on them. The first, humble bundle up is Hot Mess.
- 32:17Tad Eggleston: Express.
- 32:18Tad Eggleston: a big bundle of misfit heroes and hilarious hijinks from Image. $18 gets you 49 items, which includes 8 billion genies.
- 32:28Tad Eggleston: God hates astronauts, I hate fairyland, monkey meat, shirtless Bear Fighter, and Snack Girl. And I just want to toss out here, Shirtless Bear Fighter is kind of like Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. It is way better and way more intelligent.
- 32:46Tad Eggleston: Than it has any right to be.
- 32:50Tad Eggleston: The Book Industry Charitable Foundation is where this goes, and it's now been extended to June 15th, which is the day after this drops.

- 34:16Tad Eggleston: Phil?
- 34:17Tad Eggleston: Take a walk.
- 34:22Tad Eggleston: Phil?
- 34:26Phil: There we go, I unmuted myself. Okay, whew, I'm back. I'm back.
- 34:29Tad Eggleston: You took a walk in silence.
- 34:33Phil: I did! I did. It was silent contemplation as I went and fed my cats. They harassed me and told me I was late with dinner, so, you know, I had to take care of that. But no, this week, I seriously, feel like I just blinked and it disappeared. I feel like we were just talking.
- 34:49Phil: like, 20 minutes ago, and not just when we were literally talking 20 minutes ago, but, like, last episode 20 minutes ago. So it's been a weird… it's been a weird time blindness week for me. Have you managed to, read any One Piece this, this week?
- 35:04Tad Eggleston: I have read 2 chapters.
- 35:07Phil: Which is one more chapter than.
- 35:08Tad Eggleston: I am up to 693 chapters of One Piece have been read in 103 weeks. That is 2 chapters more than me this week.
- 35:21Phil: You know…
- 35:22Tad Eggleston: I…
- 35:23Phil: thought of an interesting equalizer. Could Tyler watch all of the One Piece anime before Tad reads all of the One Piece manga?
- 35:33Tad Eggleston: Oh, he does have a TV in the store, so that is possible. Yeah, I do, and I have Crunchyroll, because I watch, anime because the kids that come in here want to watch anime.
- 35:43Phil: They love One Piece! The kids love One Piece.
- 35:47Phil: You know? I'm just saying this, you know.
- 35:51Tad Eggleston: I, I'm gonna get back into it, one way or the other, whether it's the manga, the Netflix show, the anime… I'm gonna do it.
- 35:59Phil: Well, in the meantime.
- 36:00Tad Eggleston: Did Forlong the other Netflix show? Oh, right? There's another one?
- 36:04Phil: The other anime, oh yeah.
- 36:07Tad Eggleston: Well, those are the same.
- 36:09Phil: Yes, yeah, yeah, that's fair. But no, I managed to read one more chapter of Tower Dungeon, which has continued to be incredible,
- 36:18Phil: as I, as I continue to read.
- 36:20Tad Eggleston: Isn't Tower Dungeon an oxymoron?
- 36:24Phil: Kind of.
- 36:25Tad Eggleston: Yeah, those are, like, an opposite, right? That's a good…
- 36:28Phil: Yeah.
- 36:29Phil: And yet, this tower is… is very dungeon-like. So… so yeah, no, that's a good point. I do love a good oxymoron.
- 36:36Phil: So yeah, that's probably why I'm liking.
- 36:37Tad Eggleston: Well, I mean… you're a moron, and you need some oxy, so I'm…
- 36:43Phil: Ouch. I'm wounded.
- 36:45Tad Eggleston: Sorry, I just fell back.
- 36:47Tad Eggleston: high school for.
- 36:47Phil: I mean, you know, all that needs to happen is you get two guys in a room, and suddenly, suddenly, my feelings get hurt. It really is high school all over again.
- 36:58Tad Eggleston: That's right! We didn't get to be bullies in high school, so we're doing it now. Yeah, we're gonna bully you over the internet. Yeah, because that's how the kids do it these days.
- 37:09Phil: It's the worst kind of bullying, is there anything.
- 37:11Tad Eggleston: Cyberbullying.
- 37:12Phil: Oh, it never stops.
- 37:13Tad Eggleston: All the cool kids do it. You didn't have any friends in high school, and we know it.
- 37:18Phil: I did, but they're all… they don't… I mean, they're not.
- 37:21Tad Eggleston: Neither did we. Neither did we, Phil. They're in Canada, I swear. But this is where I need to make public service announcement. Bullying is not good. Neither is cyberbullying. None of the cool kids do it. You shouldn't either.
- 37:36Phil: I hear… I hear the kids are strong in the anti-bullying these days, which is perfect.
- 37:40Tad Eggleston: A little bit. They are.
- 37:42Phil: Damn.
- 37:43Tad Eggleston: Alright, you guys want to talk about, okay. Persepolis. Persepolis, yeah.
- 37:48Tad Eggleston: Persepolis, which I don't think any of us actually managed to finish, because it was one of those weeks that moved fast, and instead of recording late, we're recording early. Yeah.
- 38:01Phil: It's now officially 22 panels after dark, at least where I am.
- 38:04Tad Eggleston: Yeah. Okay, look out, Tad, look at Tad's camera.
- 38:07Phil: I do, I see… I see you have a little bit of sun still.
- 38:10Tad Eggleston: Well, we are in, we're west of you, so the sun's still setting by me.
- 38:16Phil: at 9 p.m.
- 38:18Tad Eggleston: Yeah, it's June, baby!
- 38:20Phil: Wild.
- 38:21Tad Eggleston: We're also north of you. Yep.
- 38:22Phil: Yeah, that's fair.
- 38:23Tad Eggleston: So, longer days, and the sun hasn't…
- 38:28Phil: You know?
- 38:28Tad Eggleston: For me, 9pm sunsets are usually for the summer, and then… and then we get, like, horrible winters where we don't see sunlight really at all. Also, also, the sun just doesn't like you. Oh, wait, we were done bullying. I'm sorry, the sun likes you very much. It's different.
- 38:46Phil: It's different coming from the sun.
- 38:48Tad Eggleston: right for the jugular. I don't like to think about how pale I am. Well, the son also doesn't like Tyler, but it has to do more dancing to miss him.
- 39:03Tad Eggleston: Oh, man.
- 39:05Phil: Whatever sample is.
- 39:06Tad Eggleston: perceptualists.
- 39:07Tad Eggleston: This is a good read for this.
- 39:08Phil: I like both? Yeah.
- 39:10Tad Eggleston: Both because… Honoring Marjane… was important, and because, like, remembering the complexities of Iran… Yes. …is important.
- 39:21Phil: Huge.
- 39:22Tad Eggleston: Especially back then. Well, I don't know that it's that much less complex now.
- 39:27Phil: That's the… that's.
- 39:28Tad Eggleston: We don't get to see as much of it, because, you know, the people that will kill you for wanting things have been in power for long enough.
- 39:37Phil: Not only that, but, you know, the…
- 39:40Tad Eggleston: But I mean, that's… that's one of the reasons why they're always like, oh, we're liberating the people, and it's like, no, the thing is, like, if the people don't liberate themselves, you become the bad guy too, because you're also killing the people.
- 39:56Phil: Yep.
- 39:56Tad Eggleston: Yes. And the people who are protecting them become the lesser of the evils.
- 40:02Phil: Right, and I imagine that, you know,
- 40:06Phil: The moment in the story where,
- 40:10Phil: Marjane talks about, the other women dressing themselves up like Western women as a form of rebellion, is probably not gonna be happening after, you know, we're at war right now.
- 40:24Tad Eggleston: I mean, it's happened in the last 5 years.
- 40:27Phil: Well, yeah, no, I just mean go.
- 40:29Tad Eggleston: I mean, that's what set off all the protests a couple of years ago.
- 40:33Phil: Right, and the current state of, you know, hostilities towards Iran is probably, you know.
- 40:41Tad Eggleston: Yeah, no, when you knock out… when… when… when the… the people who don't like my leaders.
- 40:48Tad Eggleston: Took it out on me.
- 40:50Phil: Right, right.
- 40:52Tad Eggleston: And the only people who are trying to, like, keep me with water and electricity are my leaders, who… I don't love, but they don't want me to die.
- 41:01Phil: Rent.
- 41:02Tad Eggleston: I might…
- 41:06Tad Eggleston: Be more inclined to go along with my leaders and hope that once everybody's alive and well again.
- 41:15Tad Eggleston: We can work on change again, but you can't work on change when people are…
- 41:20Tad Eggleston: Dying. Right. It doesn't really work that way.
- 41:24Tad Eggleston: I don't know how many times we have to go through this before we figure that out.
- 41:29Tad Eggleston: Quite a… quite a bit.
- 41:31Tad Eggleston: Not everyone learns the lesson at the same time, you know?
- 41:35Phil: I, I mean…
- 41:35Tad Eggleston: Ever?
- 41:36Phil: Yeah, that's, that's, that's one of the other issues, is that, like.
- 41:41Phil: lessons of interpersonal similarities and, you know, about personal liberation are going to be meaningless in the eyes of an empire, you know?
- 41:53Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 41:54Phil: Well, any war machine looking for conquest, so…
- 41:58Tad Eggleston: So, I mean, let's… getting into… getting into the structure of the story, from… from an art standpoint, right, the stark black and white coloring?
- 42:08Tad Eggleston: There's no use of color gradients or gray tones in it, right? It was just very…
- 42:14Tad Eggleston: bleh. Yeah. Every, you know… What's up?
- 42:19Phil: I was gonna say, I do agree with that initially. It took me a bit to warm up to the style and kind of get into it.
- 42:27Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 42:28Phil: But I…
- 42:29Tad Eggleston: So…
- 42:29Phil: I actually… I really like it now. I'm very much enjoying it. So, here's the thing, is I was only able to get my hands on a copy of the second volume, because everyone checked out all the copies, before me for Volume 1.
- 42:44Tad Eggleston: Young.
- 42:44Phil: And, yeah, and so I was like.
- 42:47Tad Eggleston: Weird, we've probably read different parts of it.
- 42:49Phil: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:50Tad Eggleston: Well, I was reading from the complete, but I only got maybe a third of the way through, so I'm probably half or a little bit more than halfway through Volume 1. Yeah.
- 43:01Tad Eggleston: So, I guess what really was compelling for me was the minimalist line work, right? The minimalist in the color, gradients and tones, like I said, all for the purpose of making it… simple is not the right word, but making it universal.
- 43:21Tad Eggleston: that it wasn't just this Iranian girl. It could be any of us, right? The expressive framing, right? The…
- 43:29Phil: Yeah?
- 43:31Phil: The way…
- 43:32Tad Eggleston: It's really cool, right? Yeah. And we have…
- 43:36Tad Eggleston: So, with that, you can build, like, this… universal, empathy.
- 43:43Phil: Yeah.
- 43:44Tad Eggleston: Right? So when she's choose… intentionally choosing simple, non-realistic style for the characters, I mean, that's on purpose. Yeah. And then, you know, the… the… if it was a real face, or, excuse me, not a real face, but, like…
- 44:01Phil: Like, photorealistic.
- 44:02Tad Eggleston: If the skin tone matched what they looked like in Baghdad.
- 44:07Tad Eggleston: I don't know if it would have been appealing to a Western reader.
- 44:12Tad Eggleston: Not in the same way.
- 44:14Phil: Yeah, it's an interesting point.
- 44:16Tad Eggleston: I mean, I think… we talk about this sometimes with Love & Rockets, too, is like, it's sometimes funny when we look at the covers, because the covers are the only things they color, and it's like, oh, that character is a lot darker than I had thought they were, or oh, you know, and there's always enough that you know that you're looking at…
- 44:38Tad Eggleston: Different shades, but… But, like, exactly where isn't always clear, because it is strictly black and white, and not…
- 44:49Tad Eggleston: shaded, etc. So, like, you're guessing from other features.
- 44:54Phil: Well, I mean.
- 44:54Tad Eggleston: most people are going to guess, though, I mean, because white is white. Right. They're going to just make that assumption that, oh, I can look at this because these people look like me, and then, I can see that.
- 45:07Phil: I can see that happening, you know?
- 45:09Tad Eggleston: And then the very simple eyes, right? Or at the very.
- 45:12Phil: Currently.
- 45:12Tad Eggleston: At least, it breaks down the internal bias.
- 45:16Phil: Yes.
- 45:16Tad Eggleston: GM.
- 45:17Phil: Well, especially, it's especially interesting because, you know, I came into the story when, Marjane was already in Europe, and then, she returns to Iran. So… it… it really does feel like how the style is,
- 45:35Phil: It… it being more open, and not as…
- 45:41Phil: defined, you know, with it being more figurative and based on form, there's not even, like, shading or hatching techniques. It really is just stark lines of black and white. That does speak to her…
- 45:57Phil: Situation traveling between these different
- 46:01Phil: worlds of, you know, the Middle East and Europe, and becoming the figure who, you know, steps back and forth, and in both situations is otherwise. You know, when she's in Europe, she is the outsider, for being, you know, from somewhere else, and then when, she's in Iran, she's the outsider for having Western influence.
- 46:22Phil: You know, and… Yep.
- 46:28Phil: And so that contrasts, you know, the stark black and white next to each other sort of thing.
- 46:33Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I agree. Yeah, I mean, and then, another part of it was, like, you know, the abstractness of when she would depict violence.
- 46:43Tad Eggleston: You know, for example, there was a bomb that went off, and it was just geometric shapes of people as silhouettes in the air.
- 46:52Tad Eggleston: Do you know what I mean? It just was like…
- 46:57Tad Eggleston: Making horror much more artistic than… than exploiting it.
- 47:04Tad Eggleston: You know, because you look at a Rob Zombie film, and it's… it's gore for the sake of gore, and this is kind of the opposite of that. It's addressing that there is violence, but that's not… that's not what we're trying to sell you on.
- 47:20Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 47:20Phil: What it does is it foregrounds the emotional impact of things over the literal happenings of them.
- 47:31Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 47:31Phil: And so that was something I kind of noticed as reading it, is I also very much enjoyed
- 47:36Phil: the… the pacing that she kept up, where.
- 47:40Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 47:42Phil: I feel like things are… the various vignettes are moving through her life.
- 47:47Phil: at, a pretty rapid pace, and the way that she's willing to condense moments and conversations and just move on to the next thing.
- 47:57Phil: really made the…
- 47:59Phil: you know, the motif of growth, of, like, her growing up through… through this whole book, really possible. As well as, yeah, I do think that,
- 48:09Phil: the… the abstraction, it gets closer to, like, expressionism, and by being less focused on literally what things look like, and, I'm imagining, compared to something like, my favorite thing is monsters.
- 48:24Phil: Where that is so full of detail that that hits you in the face and, and, you know, is on the opposite extreme of using that,
- 48:36Phil: Artistic expression and detail to evoke emotions, as opposed to, simplifying things to the point where you can feel the lived experience from them.
- 48:47Tad Eggleston: Yeah, this uses, you know, Scott McCloud in Understanding Comics has, like, the… the scale between abstract and…
- 48:57Tad Eggleston: And photorealistic, and this uses much… more…
- 49:02Tad Eggleston: abstract symbolism, not purely abstract, but towards that end of the spectrum, where simplicity of line is used to…
- 49:14Tad Eggleston: Get the story and the feeling up across.
- 49:17Tad Eggleston: without… overtelling anything. Yeah, it's, you know, like, it appeals to a wider audience.
- 49:28Tad Eggleston: Well, but also, it makes the audience feel themselves. Yeah. There's a difference when you have to add… like, the reader is the final collaborator. Right. And when the part that you have to add is the depth of emotion.
- 49:46Tad Eggleston: then you have to feel it more. Yeah.
- 49:49Phil: Yeah.
- 49:50Tad Eggleston: And it… and it does just enough to tickle… to… you know, you know what you're supposed to feel, but because you're not hit over the head with it, you can't be…
- 50:02Tad Eggleston: The bystander to it.
- 50:05Phil: Right.
- 50:05Tad Eggleston: You have to bring your emotion into it and feel it. Yes.
- 50:11Phil: I… and I think the… the use of the 9-panel grid like…
- 50:15Phil: Pretty heavily throughout, really emphasizes that, because since
- 50:20Phil: Since, you know, the largest panel that we see is… is a full bar, you know, that…
- 50:28Phil: keeps things moving, and like you said, it keeps things from being overtold and overstated, so that they, you know, you as a reader have to step into each moment and, participate in it.
- 50:45Phil: In a way that you don't for more detailed, realistic drawings that, you know, sort of activate
- 50:55Phil: the… the visual… like, visual detail, because there's… when there's more… there's, like, a saying where it's like,
- 51:03Phil: you know, any page, pick 2 out of 3. A lot of dialogue, a high number of panels, or a lot of visual detail. You can't really do all 3 at once, because there's just not enough room. You run out of page.
- 51:18Tad Eggleston: I mean, unless you're Frank Miller in, like, a handful of his early books.
- 51:22Phil: Yeah. Yeah, and I'd even argue, I mean, yeah, it depends on the book, but at least the Daredevil sequences I'm thinking of drop the dialogue.
- 51:32Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 51:33Phil: Yeah.
- 51:34Tad Eggleston: Damn.
- 51:37Tad Eggleston: Well, since we kind of all read different… up to different parts, or completely different parts, Phil.
- 51:44Phil: Yeah, right.
- 51:45Tad Eggleston: Do you guys want to come back to this? I was going to suggest that. Yeah. I feel like I want to spend another week with this. Okay, yeah. I don't know why I said Baghdad when we're talking about Iran, but… but… Yeah, Tehran. Yeah.
- 52:02Tad Eggleston: But I did not… I do not mean to assume that everywhere in the Middle East is the same. I mean, we know you.
- 52:12Phil: Beautiful.
- 52:12Tad Eggleston: from the middle of the United States, where everything is the same.
- 52:16Phil: So…
- 52:17Tad Eggleston: So you assume that the middle of anywhere else is all the same, too. It's all the same shit. Everybody in New York is the same.
- 52:24Tad Eggleston: And frankly, everybody in New York is the same as everybody in Los Angeles, and… and everybody… everybody in Southeast Asia is the same.
- 52:37Tad Eggleston: And they eat rice, and everybody in the Middle East is the same.
- 52:41Tad Eggleston: And they… they have long beards. Oh. Which is why you want to move there. Yeah, I'll… I'll fit in good, but I don't recall if I have ever seen a Middle Eastern man with a beard that's gray. Their beards hold color. They do. They do. I mean, I think I have…
- 53:00Phil: Other guys get gray.
- 53:00Tad Eggleston: I get where you're coming from.
- 53:02Phil: You know.
- 53:05Tad Eggleston: I mean…
- 53:06Tad Eggleston: I look like I'm… I mean, no, I mean, I don't look any older than you, Ted, but we look terrible. I mean, you and I are…
- 53:12Phil: Terrible.
- 53:13Tad Eggleston: You and I are just terrible? There you go, he has long hair listening.
- 53:18Tad Eggleston: Down to his chin.
- 53:19Phil: My dad was 100% gray-haired by the time he was 40, so, like, my… I don't.
- 53:24Tad Eggleston: I was 100% gray-haired by the time I was…
- 53:31Tad Eggleston: Well, I guess 100% I might have been 35. Wow. I was more gray than not by, like, 30. Were you?
- 53:40Tad Eggleston: I was going bald in my 20s, so that was, you know, fun.
- 53:44Phil: my college roommate.
- 53:45Tad Eggleston: He was almost entirely bald in high school.
- 53:49Phil: I, I met a guy like that, too.
- 53:52Phil: Beautiful.
- 53:53Tad Eggleston: Alright, guys, let's talk about comic books.
- 53:56Tad Eggleston: Yeah, coming up this week. It's kind of a light week, but, like, really good stuff in the light week? Yeah.
- 54:03Tad Eggleston: Because I can tell you that,
- 54:06Tad Eggleston: Dead Teenagers, number 4 from Judah S. Doyle and Caitlin Yarsky, is, in fact, spectacular, as is Pear Shape from Nick Thorburn at Fanographics Underground.
- 54:19Tad Eggleston: You should go check out.
- 54:21Tad Eggleston: the book, which you should also check… er, and our podcast, because I talked to Nick Thornburg, but also, he's in a band called The Cream. Their debut album came out last week.
- 54:32Tad Eggleston: Fantastic. Is it? So yeah, in the span of 2 weeks, he has a fantastic album and a fantastic comic drop. Not many people can say that, but he pulled it off.
- 54:45Tad Eggleston: So, yeah, no, high recommendations for those. What I'm looking forward to most is Babs the Black Road South number 4, which I actually already have waiting for me.
- 54:57Tad Eggleston: Because I got my reader copy. Yep. Smile for the camera number 4 from Hannah Rae's Rose Bay at…
- 55:07Tad Eggleston: It came out. Did it? Yeah.
- 55:09Tad Eggleston: Crazy. Hannah Roseme and Mariana Puglia at IDW, and then Concrete Stars Over Sand No. 1 from Paul Chadwick at Dark Horse, are my three picks for the week. Though, we also have Dog Tag No. 2, and a Life number 5, some new Hellboy and Love,
- 55:29Tad Eggleston: if destruction be our lot of the Earth and Olympus Saga Megalith, all number twos. So, a lot of number twos this week. Speaking of,
- 55:39Tad Eggleston: Not speaking of, I want to jump back… Speaking of number two, you need to… No, I want to jump back a minute. …to, last week's comics.
- 55:50Tad Eggleston: Raphael Grandpa's series of Batman,
- 55:54Tad Eggleston: what was it called? Finally wrapped up after… God knows how long? Yeah. Yeah?
- 56:00Tad Eggleston: Is that the Gargoyles? Yes. Gargoyles of Gotham? Yep.
- 56:05Tad Eggleston: Issue number 4 dropped this past week, and…
- 56:10Tad Eggleston: It… it had to have been at least…
- 56:13Tad Eggleston: Maybe a few years. I don't think it was as long as Hush 2.
- 56:18Tad Eggleston: Yeah. You're right. Which also dropped last week, didn't it? Yeah, that was a long one. You know what? It might have been longer, because last time we got one of the Batman Raphael… I'll have to look in my app and figure it out, because that's crazy. Yeah, it's been a bit. Oh, okay. Alright, Phil.
- 56:37Phil: Yup.
- 56:38Phil: That's his dear.
- 56:39Tad Eggleston: about your wizardry.
- 56:41Phil: Yep, giant-sized trade river.
- 56:42Tad Eggleston: Did that actually come out this week?
- 56:45Phil: According to the League of Comic Geeks, it does, so if they've betrayed me once again, I guess I'll just keep using them and getting betrayed.
- 56:51Tad Eggleston: It's not hard to, with them, believe.
- 56:54Phil: We have…
- 56:54Tad Eggleston: Yeah, no, they put it up when the initial date is announced, and they don't always get it when it changes. And yeah, this has changed a little.
- 57:06Phil: No! Excuse me.
- 57:07Tad Eggleston: in stores on August 5th.
- 57:11Phil: Dagnavit. Okay, something else, something else.
- 57:16Phil: Oh, gosh.
- 57:17Tad Eggleston: I was just shocked that it would, like, because that's not the type of thing that I would leave off of my list of graphic novels or collections.
- 57:25Phil: Right? I mean…
- 57:27Phil: So, you know, you never know, you never know. It's something that, you didn't… you don't always hear of.
- 57:33Tad Eggleston: What I'll say, Phil, is if you only look at League of Comic Geeks, and it's not on my graphic novels or collections, you should double-check from…
- 57:39Phil: Thank you, too.
- 57:40Tad Eggleston: ARH or Lunar?
- 57:42Phil: Well, don't tell me that, the Koseki the Deathless Omnibus also got pushed back, because, that, that also makes for a great, a great-looking, pick. The…
- 57:53Tad Eggleston: That, that was PRH… And I might have left that off, just because it's not…
- 57:59Phil: It's not new-new, I mean, I…
- 58:01Tad Eggleston: Well, well, and it's, it's Hellboy Universe?
- 58:05Phil: Yeah.
- 58:06Tad Eggleston: So… so, like… Remind me how to spell Koseki.
- 58:11Phil: K-o-s-h-c-h-e-i.
- 58:15Tad Eggleston: Sh… C-H…
- 58:19Phil: The ol' S-H-C-H, yep.
- 58:22Phil: And then EI. The death. S.
- 58:24Tad Eggleston: EI?
- 58:25Phil: Yep.
- 58:27Tad Eggleston: That is out June 16th?
- 58:32Tad Eggleston: There you go.
- 58:33Phil: That's… that's a winner. But yeah, I read the Koseki the Deathless miniseries. It was way better than I expected it to be. Need to…
- 58:40Tad Eggleston: No, I mean, they're always good.
- 58:42Phil: They are, but it was one of those where I remember when I bought it when it came out, it was kind of like, you know, hemming and hawing. But then by the time I actually read it, I was like, holy shit, this was really good. It's… I would say it's probably one of the better Hellboy tie-ins. So that's why I need to read Kozeki and Hell at one of the… at one point these days.
- 58:59Tad Eggleston: Well, that's part of this omnibus, I think.
- 59:01Phil: It is indeed, you know. It's been a while.
- 59:04Phil: by the Hellboy book, but yeah, that was the one that I was eyeing before I saw ol' Albion.
- 59:10Tad Eggleston: Well, there you go.
- 59:11Phil: Which is not coming.
- 59:12Tad Eggleston: That one fits. Yep. That one's actually coming in. That's coming out.
- 59:16Phil: Alright, so I'll put that down.
- 59:17Tad Eggleston: He could care less. He just put something in there, goddammit.
- 59:22Tad Eggleston: It's true. Well, I like… I like to… I like to… to steer our listeners properly. Hi, Mom, hi Adam. Hi, Britt, hi John. We know. And, we appreciate that, and love that about… One day it might matter. One day. One day. No, I'm just kidding. But Tad, it is awesome to have you down here. Nice to be here. It was nice to see
- 59:47Tad Eggleston: Kelly earlier, and your niece and nephew. Yep. It's fun. They think they enjoyed it here? Did they? Okay, good. It seemed like it. Good.
- 59:55Tad Eggleston: Yeah, they, bought some Pokemon, so that was kind of fun. Yeah. Was it Pokemon or Magic?
- 1:00:04Tad Eggleston: It's magic. Magic, yeah. Magic and one of those coffin thingies. Yeah, the teddy bears. Phil, when are you coming to visit?
- 1:00:12Phil: I… I do not know, honestly.
- 1:00:15Tad Eggleston: Alright. If you start walking now, you can be here by next Saturday.
- 1:00:20Tad Eggleston: Totally.
- 1:00:20Phil: Interesting.
- 1:00:22Tad Eggleston: And you won't have to pay for gas.
- 1:00:25Phil: I'll have to pay for something, that's for sure.
- 1:00:28Tad Eggleston: Just put protein bars in your backpack. Yeah.
- 1:00:33Phil: And, like, Oh, no.
- 1:00:37Tad Eggleston: Carry a water bottle. Hey, Tad, look out the window. So, my, person that I share the building with, is showing, that, that, here, I'm gonna go… I'm gonna go let Theo in. Okay. Alright. Before we sign off. Okay.
- 1:00:53Phil: Oh, now it's dark!
- 1:00:54Tad Eggleston: Now, now we'll, now we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll kill, kill time, kill air.
- 1:01:01Tad Eggleston: You're the one that signs us off, Tyler, and you went running away. I'm bringing Theo in. Oh, you're bringing Theo in. Come on in. Theo, we're doing our comic book podcast right now.
- 1:01:13Tad Eggleston: So our microphone is on this computer. So Theo is showing us a cookie jar of a mouse.
- 1:01:20Tad Eggleston: Correct.
- 1:01:21Tad Eggleston: It is a… it is a very, very cute ceramic cookie jar.
- 1:01:26Phil: You know, a small… a small.
- 1:01:27Tad Eggleston: Pardon me.
- 1:01:28Phil: I was… was hoping… interesting. I was hoping.
- 1:01:31Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:01:31Phil: It would be, like, the neighborhood cat, but, you know…
- 1:01:35Tad Eggleston: Alright. Theo is close to the neighborhood cat. Theo lives above the store. Here, let's turn the camera, and Theo can sing it, because for our listeners out there, Theo is saying hi.
- 1:01:49Tad Eggleston: Yes.
- 1:01:51Tad Eggleston: Well, anyway, yeah, didn't just go up on YouTube. We're audio only, yeah. Yeah, we're only keeping the audio. Yep. All right, guys, thanks for listening, and we'll catch you guys after the next page. Later.
