- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: when our environment is chaotic, our brains are chaotic, and when our brains are chaotic, our environments are chaotic, right?
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what I tried to explain to the kids.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, why are you a psycho?
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: And you have to clean every single day, and that's exactly why.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: I call myself a life and declutter coach because for me, it's about decluttering your spaces.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: But it's also about decluttering mindset.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's about decluttering the narratives that we tell ourselves.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: The limiting beliefs, the societal expectations put on us.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: I really try to blend all of that together.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to another episode of Six Figure Certified Coach, the podcast run by IGC Coaching School.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm your host, Liv Chapman, and today we have another guest on the show.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: This of course is an IGC grad because obviously we like to celebrate our most successful graduates and coaches, but the real reason I had Amelia shop talk here today is because it is the beginning of 2026.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: and every single person I've talked to said that their life still feels like a big fat mess and Amelia is not only a certified life coach, but she's also a decluttering coach and she's going to help us organize our lives in the next 20 minutes.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the show.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for having me.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if I could organize your whole life in 20 minutes, I'd be a billionaire by now, but I will do the best to that I can.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll take it because I feel like a little bit can go a long way, especially when it comes to organization and decluttering.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: And this isn't really specific niche that you're in that I feel like is one of those practical things that people don't realize the impact until they work with you.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: So before we kind of go into that, can you share a little bit more about how you decided to niche into this very specific realm of decluttering and organization and what kind of
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: that creates for your clients.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: Decuttering and organizing has been something I've always been good at.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: People have sat over the years.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you should be a professional organizer.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I've always been like, I don't know.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: But I got into life coaching from I was in a jar for a long time,
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: loved that, loved talking to people and helping employees with their goals, hated the corporate stuff.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I got out of that, discovered life coaching when I was trying to figure out what to do.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: Next and went, hey, this feels like the part that I liked, the like helping employees with their
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: yeah, holding the accountable, helping them through that.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so I got into life coaching.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: And as I was doing the training through IGC, I was like,
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: feel like maybe there's a way to like take this thing that I've always been good at and mix it into my life coaching.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: And so I call myself a life and declutter coach because for me it's about decluttering your
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: spaces, but it's also about decluttering mindset.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's about decluttering the narratives that we tell ourselves, the limiting beliefs, the societal expectations put on us.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: I really try to blend all of that together and talk about how
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: our physical spaces and our mental and emotional quote unquote spaces all really affect each other and so what environment is chaotic our brains are chaotic and when our brains are chaotic.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: are environments are chaotic, right?
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: So that's what I tried to explain to the kids.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, why are you a psycho and you have to clean every single day?
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: And that's exactly why.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly why.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: They, yeah, they say that literally your cortisol levels are higher if your environment is messy.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: So when your clients come to you, like, what is their complaint?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what has them be like this is the person I need to work with?
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, overwhelmed and not knowing where to start is the number one thing I hear and people come to me because their environments are messy because their homes are messy and cluttered.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: They don't necessarily come to me for like the mental and emotional and all that stuff, but then as we dig in, they start to realize, oh, they need that too.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: They really come to me
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: I really, I just preach this like.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: do it your way that there is no one way to organize, there's no one way to declutter, and that we need to find ways that work for you and systems that work for you.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: My brand, as you know, is fuck the perfect life.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: And so it is like all about not trying to seek perfection, but trying to find what's quote unquote perfect for you.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think like that's
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you can watch, you know, organizers on Instagram, you can watch, you know, Marie condo and like, you know, all those things.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: And if you follow their method and it works for you, that's amazing.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're like, I'm not gonna fold everything perfectly the way that she does.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just gonna throw stuff in a bin because that's what works for me and it's out of my,
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: I line.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: I love that for you.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's really about tailoring things to your individual needs.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that is why they come to me.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can see that and I like that there's a mix of like the practicality of actually physically cleaning up or adjusting or organized your space and there's also that deeper Solving for which is like I know people who have hired home or home organizers before, but their home just ends up back how it was because they haven't actually solved for what's
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: you know, causing it to look that way.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's been a million times I've wanted to organize my pantry, like with all the label glass, non-toxic blah, blah, blah.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, you know what I'm talking about.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I don't have, it's organized in its own sense now, but I don't think I would be able to keep that up and maybe it's because it's
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: There is some type of mental block there, but I feel like that's a whole another cover.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's not where my question was going.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: My question really was like, yeah.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: If you do feel inundated with stuff or overwhelmed, like, what, because I'm telling you, I talk to a lot of moms, especially.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know anyone who was like just full of joy this holiday season.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know any single person who's just like feeling, woohoo, about 2026.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not feeling negatively about the year, but I'm not feeling some like reset button fresh start type of thing.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: So what would you, what advice do you have for someone who is feeling like overwhelmed with stuff, both tangible goods and kind of mental clutter?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we start.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: That is a, that is a great question.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, and that's what I'm hearing to from everybody is that it's like, new year, new me.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like we're too tired for resolutions.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, the whole thing for me is like, how do I help you find a system that you can maintain and that you don't need me anymore?
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, in a sense.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: But I think just starting small is the best way that, like I said, feeling overwhelmed not knowing where to start, especially physical clutter is like the number one thing I hear.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: And so it is literally just pick a drawer, pick a section of your closet.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: whatever it is, just start going through things slowly to start like really thinking about what it is that you want and you need.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: I have a guide on my website that you can download to like, to really think through when you're buying stuff, to like, am I going to use this, am I going to need this also just like,
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you haven't used it and you're keeping it just in case, is it something that you can easily get again?
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, we don't want to be wasteful.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: We don't want to be constantly rebuying the same thing over and over again.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: But if it's something that you bought, thought you might need, haven't used in 10 years.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, I'm keeping this just in case I do eventually need it.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: Is that really helping you?
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Is that really like taking up valuable real estate in your home?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think it is really being mindful about what it is that you have and what you're bringing into your home and why.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: One thing that I'm hearing a lot as we come into a new year is
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: not so much about what can I add to my life, but what can I subtract from my life?
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: So auditing your time, your commitments,
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: you know, list of to-dos and just really streamlining.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: That can be really hard for sure, but baby steps, I think.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: We try to like redo everything all at once, and that's not.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: I did that when I moved recently, and it did not go well for the mental health to take on five dozen projects at once.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm a little OCD, but I did learn that when the hard way.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I saw something on Instagram where you were hosting like a laundry folding situation.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Is that you?
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: I want it.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: So this is very interesting to me and I want you to go into just like a little bit of like how this started and why this happened, but
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: I want to bring this to the audience's attention for two reasons.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: One, there's a lot of people that probably need help decluttering and organizing.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things that I've talked about a ton on this channel is really simplifying your message and really being able to meet a prospect or potential client where they're at with a problem that is they are facing on a daily basis.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: And so when I saw this, I was like, this is pretty genius because it's like such everyone faces that.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know anyone whose laundry was always done folded and put away.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: Myself included.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: We just didn't yesterday morning for the, I mean, like with the kids off break or kids off school, things that I just was like, I'm not dealing with this.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: And we like did it together as a family yesterday morning because I was like, I can't go on another day.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: But tell me where this came from
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like to do this.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so this is pretty new, but yeah, was this idea of providing a space for people to come together and
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: get chores done essentially.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's called the laundry folding gang or LFG for let's fucking go.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think it's okay.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Come and bring your laundry.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: That was helped develop that from an idea that actually Caitlyn gave me Caitlyn Anthony.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yes, the idea is that it is everyone's day night, you can bring your laundry and fold it, you can do another chore, whatever you want, but the whole point is to, you know, give yourself a set time to do that and to do with other people and just sort of make something mundane as something you dread and push off.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, to get it done and get it done with other people and have fun.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we just chat, um, sometimes it's unfair and kind of
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's on Zoom.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes we talk about decluttering, but sometimes we just talk about like what we watch on TV yesterday or you know how things are going in our lives because I think particularly for like a lot of moms, there's so much to do and they are craving social time with other adults.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: But don't have the time or space to do that.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, how can we get something done that you have to do?
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: While also being social and talking to other people.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I just think so.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: Genius.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: So, thank you to everyone's day.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: I would consider this kind of like an opt-in, essentially.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's free.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: You just have to sign up on my website and you'll get the zoom link and reminders and you can come for an hour and do a tour or do
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: and chat with other people, and yeah, I mean, it is, it is, but to just be, yeah, sort of a, a funnel, an opt-in kind of a thing, because then you'll get on my mailing list of course.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: And why appreciate that as I need to hear.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, both sides.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: So like, how does this function?
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the things that we talk about a lot in IGC, especially in level two, where there's all the business stuff, is how do you make an access point that your perspective coaching clients can easily be like, yes, that's me.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: I need that.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why when I saw this, I was like, this is so genius, because anyone feeling overwhelmed, I do, I mean,
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: laundry and like just the aspect of kind of what do they call it when you're on zoom like body doubling like it's it's almost like homeworking but through to your chores yeah yeah you get things actually done there's a accountability in there it makes it more fun so it requires your brain so I just think it's genius and we're definitely gonna leave that in the notes so that people can join the laundry folding game
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: and then I want to go back to another thing.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you gave us like start with one thing to declutter the physical space.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: What about the mental space?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think that mindfulness piece about how you are.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: spending your time is so important.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I think there's a more holistic way of looking at that rather than just your to-do list or your commitments.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: But just starting to think about, like,
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: The person that you are and the life that you've created is this the life that you really want.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I think starting to think about that and think about ways to incorporate.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: like, more joy, more rest, more things for you that are monetized or really for me starting my own business was saying, hey corporate life.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: doesn't work for me.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: A nine to five schedule doesn't work for me.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: And so starting to like really think about those pieces and go like does this world, does this life create that I've created for myself really fit who I am?
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the real deep part of the work that I do with people.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: is is helping them identify like am I just on this ride and not even thinking about it am I yeah autopilot there you go um yeah and so really getting yourself out of that and I think you know thinking about what your values are um thinking about
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: what your life has been made up of out of at this point.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: Is this where you saw your life going?
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: And if not, is that a good thing or is that a bad thing?
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of a mix of figuring out what you're releasing, where you want to take a little bit more ownership of your life
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's interesting because when I closed out last year, I didn't really feel the need to make a vision board because my 2024 vision board was still relevant because I really didn't bring a lot of those visions to life and I realized that the reason I didn't was because I was still very much attached to our holding on to
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: old ways of thinking old habits that kind of stopped me and I'm more talking personally professionally we were right but personally no.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: There is no farm with a husband okay let me tell you I'm still living in my house in the city I'm not on a farm with a little highland cow and a husband okay why is that but it wasn't because of things that I needed to add to my life it was things I needed to subtract.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: So it really resonate with that.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: And what I sat down at the beginning of the year, which I'm still kind of in the beginning of the year mode, and I'm not complete with any of this just yet.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully that makes that room feel better too.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: I really wrote down, this was after post holiday, meant to be mental breakdown, okay?
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: Where my friend, who also went through IGC, came over and she was like, why don't we just look at some things we can take off your plate?
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: That for me felt like the biggest relief because how could I possibly add on going to date or find a husband or,
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: like start a garden like there's all these things that I want to do on my vision board, but I don't have the capacity to do them unless I take some things that I don't like off easier said than exactly exactly.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: The one thing I started with was like a part I haven't had a nanny in years.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm like, because I'm like, oh, my kids are older.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need one anymore.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need one anymore.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, rule I made up for myself.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: But the reality was, since I pulled them out of public school and blah, there's all this commuting going back and forth to these programs that they're in.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a full-time single mom.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, I have to hire someone to pick them up and show for them around three days a week.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: And what I realized, I literally get nine hours of my life back.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Just with that one thing.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's going to cost me money, which I know some people have more time than you have money.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: I understand being in both of those predicaments, but I'm like, nine hours back of my day to either work or work on myself is worth the investment.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: That makes sense.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: I really resonate with what you're saying and I don't have it all right by any means, but I think if someone is faced with this like there's so much on my plate, absolutely connecting with a coach that can help you figure out what you want to remove so that you have the spaciousness to create is major.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing worse.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, that's exactly what I try to say is like let me help you go through and figure out what is actually yours to claim and to desire and to do and what is something you put on the plate because you thought you had to
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: feel bad guilt shame like there's so much of that wrapped up in it.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I really appreciate this conversation, Amelia, and I feel like, no matter who's watching and where, you gotta join in on the laundry folder, the laundry folder, so we're getting because I feel like that is also one, just step someone can take.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: And no one can even combat you at that in the house.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I know sometimes there's like, a husband objection or a busy family, you get to do this from your home.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm gonna leave that link for you to be able to follow
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: laundry folding, meet up and obviously learn more about her coaching services, decluttering and getting more organized in your life because I just, I'm really, it's really hitting home for me like you have to get rid of stuff of my friends.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: You have to get rid of things to be able to bring in new things and maybe that's why we collectively have felt a little stumped about
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: the old junk that we we no longer need right exactly yeah I definitely resonate with that.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: And if I can like leave everybody with just one small thing is like it will never be perfect.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: it will never be perfect.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: There will always be messes.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_00]: There will always be things to declutter.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: There will always be narratives to leave behind.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: And so how do you work on accepting that and just continuing to work on them?
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: So true, and so good.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: I've been, like, laughing.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I could clean my whole house, but then someone gets a snack and it's a mess again.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: But like, that's my right.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think you have to love a joy and gratitude in there, which I suck at doing sometimes, but, yeah, that's a second.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: And that's so much for being here.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: I really appreciate everything that you're doing, and I know that your work is gonna just continue to impact so many women's lives.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you for all of that, and thank you for being here.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, thank you so much for having me.
