Transcript
- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome back to the Kenny Wallace Show
- 0:03brought to you by Jags. There's that car Jags, the
- 0:08leader in high performance aftermarket car parts.
- 0:12Remember to go to jags.com for everything you need to make your
- 0:17vehicles more awesome. All right everybody, we are down
- 0:21for the Daytona 500 weekend and there has been complete chaos.
- 0:28I don't think we have wrecked this many cars so quick.
- 0:33We have wrecked during the dual 150's mercifully in the second
- 0:38dual, the big one going down the front straightaway.
- 0:41That was when William, Byron and all the boys got together and
- 0:45took out half the field. Then we went on to the truck
- 0:48race and Oh my Lord, they wrecked.
- 0:51So record cautions that's why we're doing this.
- 0:54Kenny Wallace show the truck race.
- 0:57You would think there's no way they can wreck any more than
- 1:00they have in the last 10 years. As they say, hold my beer,
- 1:04right? The truck race was unbelievable.
- 1:07Wreckage they wrecked so bad. Highlight reels, people flipping
- 1:12over each other down the back straight away.
- 1:15Well, that was not all. NASCAR called an audible.
- 1:19They said, hey, the weather's not looking good after this
- 1:23truck race. We're going to go ahead and run
- 1:26the Arc of Menard series. Unbelievable amount of wrecking.
- 1:31Wreck, wreck, wreck. All right, so I've laid it out.
- 1:35This is more wrecking than normal.
- 1:37Yes, I get it. They always wreck it.
- 1:40Super Speedway races. So why are they wrecking so
- 1:44much? All right, The Herminator knows
- 1:49this is where I, you know, remind you all that I've raced
- 1:52in NASCAR my whole life. I still race right now to this
- 1:55day. Just got done winning down at
- 1:57Volusia down in Florida. I just got home.
- 2:00I've been in Florida and we won a big race.
- 2:03So my disclaimers, I know what the hell I'm talking about.
- 2:06Not being cocky. Just once again for my loyal
- 2:11followers. Remember what?
- 2:12What Brother Rusty says Herm. It's sad to say.
- 2:16You got to remind them because they remember what they want to.
- 2:19All right? This is why they are wrecking.
- 2:24They're wrecking because we've got a new generation of kids
- 2:28that grew up watching the Professionals race, and in our
- 2:34day we learned of what they call tandem draft.
- 2:38I would go up on this guy, you touch him and then you two cars
- 2:42would go 2 seconds quicker than anybody.
- 2:46Tandem drafting was a phenomenon and then NASCAR outlawed it.
- 2:51It was dangerous. The wrecks were catastrophic
- 2:54because this guy would be pushing you and you couldn't
- 2:58see. You had to rely on the guy in
- 2:59the front. But if that guy in the front,
- 3:01OK, right, so this guy's going, the guy behind couldn't see and
- 3:06he might lead you right into smashing into another car.
- 3:09So tandem drafting got out outlawed and they said OK,
- 3:12you're not allowed to attach to another car for a certain
- 3:16distance. If you go like this all the way
- 3:18around racetrack, you're illegal.
- 3:20So you can kind of do it, but you got to let up right away and
- 3:23that's driver's discretion. That's a NASCAR watching that.
- 3:28OK, why are they wrecking? Because this new generation of
- 3:33drivers are trying to emulate all this.
- 3:36They're trying to emulate side draft and they're trying to
- 3:38emulate bump drafting. They're trying to emulate tandem
- 3:41drafting. The kids nowadays are so young
- 3:45that they don't have the experience to keep the cars
- 3:48underneath of them. And the experienced drivers
- 3:53right now are wrecking. Everybody's wrecking.
- 3:56OK, So what are we going to do about this?
- 3:59Well, somebody on X said to me, why are they wrecking so much?
- 4:05And I said, they're wrecking when they push and shove, right?
- 4:14Listen, I got to give Mikey Walter a little bit of credit on
- 4:17something years ago. He said something.
- 4:19I thought, you know, he's right. The drivers are in control of
- 4:23the gas pedal and the brake. And listen, they're wrecking
- 4:26halfway through the race. They're wrecking on lap three.
- 4:30This, this, this thing where they come out of the car and
- 4:33they go, well, we got to do it. We got to do it as part of the
- 4:36sport. No, you don't.
- 4:38You don't got to do it on lap three or halfway through the
- 4:41Daytona 500. You don't got to do it now.
- 4:45You've got to do it when it's 5 or 10 to go.
- 4:49Have you ever noticed during the Daytona 500, everything will
- 4:53roll along Now there'll be some mistakes and and and that's,
- 4:57those are accidents, right? But there will be some mistakes
- 5:01early on. A guide, you know judges as me
- 5:03or wrong and causes a big wreck and it's the big one but it but
- 5:06it was a mistake. But all these kids right now,
- 5:09the reason they're wrecking is they're trying to emulate too
- 5:12early. It's the driver's fault.
- 5:15And listen, people go they need more downforce.
- 5:19So if you put more downforce on them, they go slower.
- 5:23So now they go slower than you got to make more horsepower.
- 5:26Nobody can pass. And then if you hit them, the
- 5:28car don't move. You want the cars to handle a
- 5:32little bit bad, OK? Look at every race, OK?
- 5:38Look at one of the Daytona 5 hundreds that Dale Junior won.
- 5:44My dear friend Dale Leonard Junior.
- 5:46Look at the first one he won. He was out there all by himself.
- 5:50Nobody even around him. Actually, Tony Stewart was
- 5:53leading the race and Dale Junior just came up one year and passed
- 5:57him. Dale Junior won the Daytona 500
- 6:01with a half a lap on the whole field all by himself, Just just
- 6:03going like this. Is that too boring for you?
- 6:07Do you not like that these cars need to handle bad so you can
- 6:12get some separation? Whenever you put downforce and
- 6:16drag into these cars, that induces the drivers to bang on
- 6:20each other. So right now when when they bang
- 6:23on each other they just wiggle a little bit.
- 6:25So why are they wrecking? Because the drivers on lap 30, I
- 6:32got to push them. No, you don't got to.
- 6:34It's the driver's fault. Now I want to throw a disclaimer
- 6:38out there for the drivers that don't do this right.
- 6:41There's a lot of drivers that that say, hey, listen, count me
- 6:44down, let me know. And you know, I'm going to mind
- 6:46my own business. And they're running forth in the
- 6:49outside lane and they're just riding along and they're not,
- 6:51they're not banging into nobody, you know, but they're just
- 6:54staying tight in the bumper. Listen, here's what you do.
- 6:58You hold the gas wide open and then we got big brakes on the
- 7:02cars at Daytona and tell they because you, you keep the
- 7:06butterfly open and then you go and then you take the break
- 7:13because you cannot let out of the gas or else it won't
- 7:16recover. These are techniques we use.
- 7:19So the wrecking, because these kids are young.
- 7:23The wrecking in the Cup series. The wrecking in the Cup Series.
- 7:27So when you go back to the dual, even the greats are wrecking.
- 7:30So. But that's why they're wrecking.
- 7:33Why are they wrecking? I told you why they're wrecking?
- 7:35Because they won't stop beating the hell out of each other.
- 7:39All right, everybody. Well, what?
- 7:41What do we do? Well, what do they do?
- 7:44Well, they quit wrecking each other, and they cannot change
- 7:47the rules to make the drivers quit wrecking.
- 7:51It's just in the drivers meeting, it's like, guys, we
- 7:54give you a good car. It's got a lot of downforce.
- 7:56They quit running all over each other.
- 7:58That's the bottom line. Hell, I heard they had a big OL
- 8:01meeting with the Truck Series and the ARCA Menard series.
- 8:05They didn't listen because they think on lap.
- 8:08Hell they was they was wrecking on lap three of the ARCA race.
- 8:11Lap three. My God, let's get some laps in.
- 8:16All right, everybody respond right here.
- 8:18All you, all you race car drivers that don't race but
- 8:21you're on the couch and you know how to drive.
- 8:23Respond right here. Tell us how to drive.
- 8:27All right. That was a lot of fun.

- 8:49Imagine if it was dirt. It'd be rained out.
