- 2:17Speaker 5: the month of April, we've been telling you the stories
- 2:19Speaker 5: of people whose lives were literally saved by organ transplants.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Told you last week the story of a lady by
- 2:25Speaker 5: the name of Vicky Keen, lady from right here in Charleston,
- 2:29Speaker 5: who was a recipient of a double lung transplant. And
- 2:32Speaker 5: I'll be honest with you, I was so inspired by
- 2:35Speaker 5: her that I invited her to be on the local
- 2:37Speaker 5: show and she joins us this morning in the Jered
- 2:39Speaker 5: Construction studios. Good morning, Good morning, welcome back, Thank you.
- 2:43Speaker 5: I loved your story last week. We told your story
- 2:45Speaker 5: statewide last week and I told you you were leaving.
- 2:48Speaker 5: I said, we need to have you back on the
- 2:50Speaker 5: local show to tell the story because you are from
- 2:53Speaker 5: right here in Charleston, though you're pretty well known in
- 2:56Speaker 5: the community. Talk before we talk about the transplant story,
- 3:00Speaker 5: talk about Vickie. Tell us about you.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Before I received my transplant, I worked for West Virginia
- 3:06Speaker 6: West Virginia Junior College in high school missions. And then
- 3:10Speaker 6: I got early really sick and I ended up having
- 3:15Speaker 6: to have a double lung transplant. I was sick for
- 3:18Speaker 6: like ten years, and it took me ten years to
- 3:22Speaker 6: get my lungs because you have to be at a
- 3:25Speaker 6: certain stage in your illness to be able to have
- 3:29Speaker 6: a lung transplant.
- 3:31Speaker 5: And as you told us the story last week, you
- 3:36Speaker 5: started tell us about the onset of the illness. How
- 3:40Speaker 5: did you know that something's not right here? Or were
- 3:42Speaker 5: you diagnosed by your doctor or how did you first
- 3:45Speaker 5: find out?
- 3:45Speaker 6: Well, I was diagnosed by my doctor, but I did
- 3:47Speaker 6: notice a lot of changes. I was an advocate walker,
- 3:51Speaker 6: walking five to six miles a day, and all at once,
- 3:56Speaker 6: just I would start swelling when I walked. So when
- 3:58Speaker 6: I went to the doctor to see what was going on,
- 4:01Speaker 6: my oxygen levels were really low, and so they sent
- 4:04Speaker 6: me through all kinds of tests and they told me
- 4:08Speaker 6: that I needed a new paraalungs.
- 4:11Speaker 5: Talk about that feeling when you got that, Oh.
- 4:14Speaker 7: Jesus, well, you know what.
- 4:18Speaker 6: As time went on the diagnosis, I always feel that
- 4:21Speaker 6: everything happens for a reason, and maybe my reason was
- 4:26Speaker 6: to be able to talk to minorities about transplants because
- 4:31Speaker 6: I'm really an advocate for it because there's not enough
- 4:37Speaker 6: African Americans or minorities that.
- 4:41Speaker 7: Are organ donors.
- 4:42Speaker 5: What are the numbers?
- 4:44Speaker 6: Okay, eighteen percent African Americans. The rest of the minorities
- 4:47Speaker 6: are made up of other minorities.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Why do you think that is?
- 4:51Speaker 6: I think it's from the old myths about organ donations.
- 4:54Speaker 6: I know, growing up, I can remember my grandparents talking
- 4:57Speaker 6: about things like that and how it right and it
- 5:01Speaker 6: shouldn't be done because they mutilate the body of the donor.
- 5:06Speaker 7: That is so false.
- 5:09Speaker 6: They take care, take better care of the body my
- 5:14Speaker 6: donor than me because they have to give that donor
- 5:21Speaker 6: and the donor family the emotional support, right, Yeah, and
- 5:29Speaker 6: before they will release their loved one.
- 5:31Speaker 5: What was your thought preciss you personally about organ donations,
- 5:35Speaker 5: because you said you know that coming out of the
- 5:38Speaker 5: minority community that it was in some cases. The numbers
- 5:41Speaker 5: obviously were very low eighteen percent or so in the
- 5:43Speaker 5: African American community personally, What was your thought before you
- 5:46Speaker 5: got your diagnosis about organ transplant.
- 5:49Speaker 7: I've been an organ It's been on my license since I.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Was sixty Okay, so you're all four.
- 5:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm all for organ transplant. My children are donors,
- 5:58Speaker 6: my family members are are you know, have their story
- 6:01Speaker 6: on their car to be a donor. And I feel
- 6:05Speaker 6: that all African Americans, you know, you hear people say
- 6:09Speaker 6: I'm gonna take everything God gave me with me. How
- 6:12Speaker 6: selfish of you. God healed people, He made us in
- 6:18Speaker 6: his image, so that means our organs can heal other people.
- 6:23Speaker 6: But people I feel her selfish or don't know the
- 6:28Speaker 6: history of organ donations for minorities. Minorities are the ones
- 6:35Speaker 6: who need the most donations, the most donors because we're
- 6:40Speaker 6: talking liver, kidney, high blood pressure, all those things for
- 6:45Speaker 6: African Americans make them may make them in the future
- 6:50Speaker 6: need a transplant, So we are the ones that need
- 6:54Speaker 6: the Don't get me wrong, you can get your transplant
- 6:57Speaker 6: from any minority, but as well common sense tells you,
- 7:01Speaker 6: as well as the doctors tell you. I mine was
- 7:05Speaker 6: better coming from an African American or another minority because
- 7:10Speaker 6: of the genetics. The healing process is easier because I
- 7:14Speaker 6: am African American, so I don't hell, I don't heal
- 7:19Speaker 6: as easy giving my organs from a Caucasian or someone
- 7:27Speaker 6: other than my nationality or minority.
- 7:30Speaker 5: All right, so you're we're told that you're going to
- 7:34Speaker 5: have to have a lung transplant, and you're on the
- 7:36Speaker 5: waiting list for how long? Again?
- 7:38Speaker 6: From two thousand and eleven until twenty twenty. I received
- 7:45Speaker 6: my transplant right in the middle COVID. That shows you
- 7:49Speaker 6: how good God is. It was right in the middle
- 7:52Speaker 6: COVID when everybody was losing their life. I'm thinking, I'm
- 7:56Speaker 6: getting ready to get a transplant, and everybody's dying around me,
- 8:00Speaker 6: and so it was like I felt hurt because people
- 8:06Speaker 6: were dying and I'm going to be given life. In
- 8:09Speaker 6: a midst of millions of people dying, I'm getting life.
- 8:14Speaker 6: So I feel that, like I said before, everything happens
- 8:17Speaker 6: for a person. When I got my transplant, it was
- 8:20Speaker 6: the most wonderful thing in the world because I feel
- 8:23Speaker 6: like I had so much more to do, so many
- 8:26Speaker 6: people to talk to, And I feel that my purpose
- 8:30Speaker 6: and value after receiving my transplant is to educate, to
- 8:35Speaker 6: educate minorities on transplant. I've learned so much and me
- 8:40Speaker 6: being as sick as I was, I was on my deathbed.
- 8:43Speaker 7: Seven leaders of.
- 8:44Speaker 6: Oxygen the oxygen was keeping my organs going.
- 8:47Speaker 7: That's it.
- 8:49Speaker 6: It was just keeping my organs going. I needed a
- 8:52Speaker 6: transplant immediately, and so I had to wait. But you know,
- 8:56Speaker 6: in the waiting period, your people around I feel it
- 9:01Speaker 6: like my team, my family around me, like CORE Center
- 9:05Speaker 6: for Organ Recovery.
- 9:06Speaker 7: They were with me the whole time.
- 9:08Speaker 6: If it wasn't for them and me meeting them at
- 9:13Speaker 6: the Multicultural Festival, I would have not known anything about CORE.
- 9:17Speaker 6: So when I became a part after I had my transplant,
- 9:21Speaker 6: and they followed me through my transplant, came to visit me.
- 9:23Speaker 6: I had to live in Pittsburgh from July until November.
- 9:30Speaker 6: And it's the family that you have around you is
- 9:33Speaker 6: how you get knowledge of things that will help you
- 9:37Speaker 6: or things that will help you progress. Especially when it
- 9:40Speaker 6: comes to a transplant. It's such a devastating surgery to
- 9:45Speaker 6: have because you don't know if you're.
- 9:49Speaker 7: Going to come out of there or not.
- 9:51Speaker 6: You don't know if those lungs have to be trimmed
- 9:53Speaker 6: down to fit your chest. I'm a female. If I
- 9:57Speaker 6: didn't get female lungs, and today I don't know who
- 9:59Speaker 6: my donor is or whether they were male or female,
- 10:02Speaker 6: or even how old they were. All I know is
- 10:05Speaker 6: my donor was an opioid addic. But you know what,
- 10:08Speaker 6: that opioid addict.
- 10:09Speaker 7: Was my hero.
- 10:11Speaker 6: I don't care what people say about people who are
- 10:13Speaker 6: on drugs. That's a mental thing. But don't look at
- 10:17Speaker 6: them differently when it comes to organ transplants because they're
- 10:25Speaker 6: their sickness is what I call it. They can't help it,
- 10:31Speaker 6: but you know what, God still made them able to
- 10:34Speaker 6: be heroes. And I feel that everyone should be a
- 10:39Speaker 6: donor because you don't think about it. What if you've
- 10:42Speaker 6: got a family member that needs a kidney, are you
- 10:44Speaker 6: gonna say no, I'm gonna take it with you. If
- 10:46Speaker 6: my family member would have told me, and they were
- 10:48Speaker 6: on their deathbed that I couldn't have their lungs, I'd
- 10:51Speaker 6: have took it from them, but my family supported me.
- 10:56Speaker 6: I tell you, being having see which is an aggressive, aggressive,
- 11:05Speaker 6: mean disease for God to give you life and put
- 11:11Speaker 6: a team together at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center,
- 11:16Speaker 6: and he picked me a hero. How can you not
- 11:20Speaker 6: be an organ donor whether you're a minority or Caucasian
- 11:23Speaker 6: or no matter what nationality you are. But African Americans
- 11:27Speaker 6: we have to start saving each other. We have to
- 11:30Speaker 6: start being organ doners. Like I said, I don't know
- 11:33Speaker 6: if my.
- 11:33Speaker 7: Organ donor was African American or not.
- 11:36Speaker 6: I've got a letter out. I'm hoping they want to
- 11:38Speaker 6: meet me because I want to meet them. I'm carrying
- 11:40Speaker 6: their DNA. I need to meet them because now they
- 11:45Speaker 6: are part of me as well as their loved one
- 11:47Speaker 6: who gave me life. So what I say to everyone,
- 11:52Speaker 6: every living soul, God went around healing people.
- 11:57Speaker 7: He gave people life a second time. He gave me
- 12:02Speaker 7: life a second time. If you don't think you're worthy
- 12:06Speaker 7: of being.
- 12:06Speaker 5: A look, I'm sorry, that's all right. It happens.
- 12:11Speaker 6: If you don't think you're worthy of being an organ donor,
- 12:14Speaker 6: or you're afraid get the knowledge. It's out there. We
- 12:19Speaker 6: have al Now, I will tell you everything. I will
- 12:23Speaker 6: tell you whatever question you asked.
- 12:25Speaker 7: Al Ai.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Sorry, that's all right, it's all good.
- 12:30Speaker 7: Yeah, I call al chat.
- 12:31Speaker 5: That's all right.
- 12:32Speaker 3: What you want, y A.
- 12:33Speaker 7: I will tell you everything.
- 12:35Speaker 6: I've learned new things since I've had my transplant. African Americans,
- 12:40Speaker 6: we have to get it together, minorities, we have to
- 12:43Speaker 6: get it together because we need to be saving each other.
- 12:47Speaker 6: I read about a man named Chelsea. I think his
- 12:50Speaker 6: name was Chelsea, Robert Chelsea, and he was the first
- 12:55Speaker 6: African American who had a total face transplant. But you
- 13:01Speaker 6: know what, he had difficulties too because the first skin
- 13:05Speaker 6: they put on his face was too light. They didn't
- 13:09Speaker 6: have an African American donor to put because he was
- 13:12Speaker 6: African American, to give him his face complexion back or
- 13:17Speaker 6: give him his face back. But he finally after several
- 13:22Speaker 6: surgeries and is still living and testifying as to what
- 13:28Speaker 6: God did for him.
- 13:31Speaker 7: He's still here. Wouldn't you want to be still here
- 13:35Speaker 7: if somebody could save you?
- 13:37Speaker 5: And and this is why following the Network show that
- 13:41Speaker 5: we did last week, I said, you got to come
- 13:43Speaker 5: back because you need to talk to the people here
- 13:45Speaker 5: in in in Charleston, and you need to talk to
- 13:49Speaker 5: members as you you're the one. You know, you brought
- 13:51Speaker 5: it up on the show last week, especially among those
- 13:54Speaker 5: in the minority community. And you got a strong voice.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Those lungs. You may you may have had a you
- 13:59Speaker 5: may you may have lungs, but you got the same voice.
- 14:03Speaker 5: And it's allowed one and the best possible it is
- 14:06Speaker 5: allowed one.
- 14:07Speaker 6: When I talk about organ transplant and I talk about
- 14:10Speaker 6: core and I talk about people dying because other people
- 14:13Speaker 6: are being selfish with what God gave them. They rather
- 14:16Speaker 6: take it uh die and keep it all with them.
- 14:20Speaker 6: I have a family member. I'm taking everything God has
- 14:23Speaker 6: with gave me with me. Why are you being selfish?
- 14:26Speaker 6: What are you gonna do with them? You're gone, your
- 14:31Speaker 6: spirit has left your body. All this leftist organs, Why
- 14:36Speaker 6: take them with you when you can save somebody's life.
- 14:39Speaker 7: That my donor.
- 14:41Speaker 6: I can't wait to find out his name or her name,
- 14:44Speaker 6: because I'm tired of calling him my donor. My family
- 14:48Speaker 6: is what I call them because their loved one gave
- 14:52Speaker 6: me life. God picked their loved one for me, because
- 14:56Speaker 6: life was not good enough for them here on earth.
- 15:00Speaker 6: Drugs had got them, the streets had got them. But
- 15:03Speaker 6: God knew I would take care of this person. This
- 15:06Speaker 6: person is a hero to me for life. He should
- 15:09Speaker 6: be a hero to his family. He should be a
- 15:13Speaker 6: hero to anyone that has a transplant, because he's saved
- 15:18Speaker 6: not only me.
- 15:19Speaker 7: He gave somebody's sight. He or she. God gave somebody's sight.
- 15:28Speaker 6: So if your body is made in the image of
- 15:31Speaker 6: God and we're made to heal each other.
- 15:34Speaker 7: Why are we so selfish with it?
- 15:37Speaker 6: Why do we think that, oh, they're gonna do this
- 15:40Speaker 6: test when we're dead and they're gonna it's.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Not like that.
- 15:44Speaker 7: I can't wait to see a procurement.
- 15:48Speaker 6: When they go in and take the lungs out or
- 15:50Speaker 6: the kidney and things like that. I want to be
- 15:53Speaker 6: able to tell you from knowledge of seeing it, of
- 15:58Speaker 6: how it is.
- 15:59Speaker 7: People.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Please ease be organ donors. It's nothing wrong with it.
- 16:04Speaker 6: God doesn't deny it. It's not a sin. Because he
- 16:09Speaker 6: wants you to take on your neighbor's burdens. What better
- 16:12Speaker 6: way than to give them organs from your body that
- 16:15Speaker 6: he gave.
- 16:15Speaker 7: You to share? If you why take them to your grave?
- 16:19Speaker 6: They're going to die. Why not give someone else life
- 16:24Speaker 6: someone gave. I get emotional when I talk about organ
- 16:27Speaker 6: transplants simply because people do not have to die because
- 16:31Speaker 6: their kidneys went bad. People do not have to die
- 16:34Speaker 6: because their lungs went bad. People don't anything that can
- 16:38Speaker 6: be transplanted out of your body into someone else.
- 16:41Speaker 7: To give them life because you're leaving here is the
- 16:44Speaker 7: best gift you can give to anyone.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Picky, we got to leave it there. Loved having you
- 16:51Speaker 5: back on this show. What's the best way that I mean,
- 16:56Speaker 5: what do people need to do? I mean, Core is
- 16:58Speaker 5: a wonderful organization. You can google it, you know it's
- 17:02Speaker 5: you can contact. I know you're on You're on social media.
- 17:06Speaker 5: You're probably not hard to find. Your one of the
- 17:07Speaker 5: most recognizable people in Charleston. An everybody knows VICKI. You
- 17:10Speaker 5: know what I want to so just make it, make
- 17:14Speaker 5: it happen, Make it happen.
- 17:16Speaker 6: I'm not supposed to be here, and I am because
- 17:21Speaker 6: not only God but the young person who gave me life.
- 17:26Speaker 7: I will honor them the rest of my life.
- 17:30Speaker 6: Because God gave me I had value and purpose and
- 17:33Speaker 6: this is what he had in store for me because
- 17:35Speaker 6: he knows how batchate I am about people.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. We got to take a break.

- 20:12Speaker 5: Let's just switch the subject. Is she a phenomenal lady?
- 20:16Speaker 12: Or what I mean?
- 20:17Speaker 5: When I had her on the Network show with Amanda
- 20:20Speaker 5: and I last week. I said, you got to come back.
- 20:22Speaker 5: I said, you got to come back. And and you
- 20:24Speaker 5: know that show's carried obviously here too, but I said,
- 20:26Speaker 5: I want you to come back, and I want you
- 20:28Speaker 5: to talk to the people of Charleston because she's so
- 20:30Speaker 5: well known. She was involved in Multi Fast and she
- 20:33Speaker 5: you know, worked at and yeah, various things that she's
- 20:37Speaker 5: done in the past. And I said, now you you
- 20:39Speaker 5: need to talk, You need to talk to people.
- 20:41Speaker 13: And I mean, of course, just fantastic or it is.
- 20:45Speaker 5: We and we've spent the month of April because it's
- 20:48Speaker 5: National organ Donation Month, and every week we've told a
- 20:50Speaker 5: different story on the afternoon show of somebody. But man,
- 20:54Speaker 5: when they they said, thank Jim Strawn for that, I
- 20:57Speaker 5: think they said, when when we're sending mss Vicky and
- 21:00Speaker 5: I wasn't. I wasn't ready for Hurricane VICKI when she
- 21:02Speaker 5: came wrong with her here last week, she had as
- 21:04Speaker 5: I said, she had me like and I'm already in oregondonners.
- 21:07Speaker 5: She had me ready said you want some you want
- 21:08Speaker 5: a kidney, you want to what do you want to?
- 21:10Speaker 5: You want anything? Right now? To take it right now
- 21:12Speaker 5: on the way out, we'll do it in the parking lot,
- 21:14Speaker 5: going on buddy over to over over to market.
- 21:17Speaker 14: Well, it's springtime and that means flowers. This is uh,
- 21:22Speaker 14: you know, this is that week every year where we
- 21:24Speaker 14: really the transfer transformation in the outdoor market is popping
- 21:31Speaker 14: and colorful and we start to not even slowly anymore,
- 21:36Speaker 14: we just hop right back to it. And it's uh,
- 21:41Speaker 14: I love it.
- 21:41Speaker 13: For a number of reasons.
- 21:42Speaker 14: You know, coming out of winter and you know, the
- 21:44Speaker 14: doul drums and you know, just shaking off the cold.
- 21:47Speaker 13: Uh, it's really nice.
- 21:50Speaker 5: And it was a hellacious one or two.
- 21:52Speaker 14: Yeah, our gas bill at the market directly reflects that.
- 21:57Speaker 13: Man, it was.
- 21:58Speaker 14: Brutal, and uh it's and now it's not you know,
- 22:01Speaker 14: we're uh, we've got all of our outdoor h greenhouse
- 22:05Speaker 14: growers moved in. We're we're getting the first signs of produce.
- 22:09Speaker 14: All of the ferns are you know, looks half of
- 22:13Speaker 14: the market looks like Jurassic Park out there, and it's uh,
- 22:17Speaker 14: it gives us an energy that you know, as we
- 22:21Speaker 14: come back into spring now through the end of the
- 22:23Speaker 14: year is just you know, ninety miles an hour and
- 22:27Speaker 14: then chucking the steering wheel.
- 22:28Speaker 13: Out the window.
- 22:29Speaker 14: So it's it's once we get going and get humming
- 22:32Speaker 14: and begin to you know, really welcome all of our
- 22:38Speaker 14: neighbors and community folks back that we haven't seen all
- 22:41Speaker 14: all winter. It's it's great love. It just tremendously lucky
- 22:47Speaker 14: to be able to get to do this, bring it
- 22:50Speaker 14: to Charleston and it's it's a great time.
- 22:53Speaker 5: It is. Indeed, we're talking to have an osman from
- 22:54Speaker 5: Capital Market, Dave Allen, showing five eighty Live has brought
- 22:56Speaker 5: to you apart by Pinnacle Consultants that are led a
- 22:59Speaker 5: paint inspect and risk Assessment. Services are designed to identify
- 23:02Speaker 5: and to assess the presence of lead based paid and
- 23:04Speaker 5: buildings and other structures using a three phase approach of inspection, sampling,
- 23:08Speaker 5: the lab analysis, and an assessment report. Visit Pinnacle Corp
- 23:11Speaker 5: dot net because what you don't know can hurt you.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Big event coming up this weekend, talk about it.
- 23:15Speaker 14: Yeah tomorrow again we're able to do what we do
- 23:20Speaker 14: the market. Capital Market operates as a nonprofit. In doing so,
- 23:25Speaker 14: we host fundraisers one a season and this Friday is
- 23:29Speaker 14: our springtime kickoff. Flowers after hours it starts at six pm.
- 23:34Speaker 14: We're tremendously fortunate this year to welcome some great local
- 23:38Speaker 14: entertainment dow Cord. We're bringing in Cocos Kitchen and Cafe
- 23:42Speaker 14: to provide the food, and the incomparable Ted Armbrick from
- 23:46Speaker 14: the wine shop at Capital Market we'll be joining us.
- 23:49Speaker 5: That's a big event for you guys every year. I mean,
- 23:51Speaker 5: it really is.
- 23:52Speaker 14: It's honestly to we time it perfectly. It's so colorful,
- 24:01Speaker 14: so vibrant. If you want to come enjoy some great music,
- 24:05Speaker 14: great food and just it. It cannot help but put
- 24:10Speaker 14: a smile on your face being out there for that evening.
- 24:13Speaker 14: And uh yeah we we We in turn take the
- 24:17Speaker 14: proceeds from that and turn it into our our food
- 24:21Speaker 14: access programs, improving ada accessibility at the market, all of
- 24:25Speaker 14: the things that you know, we don't necessarily accomplish. Through
- 24:32Speaker 14: bringing vendors in, it allows us to really sort of
- 24:36Speaker 14: expand that umbrella. One of the things that I think
- 24:39Speaker 14: is important about the market is that we're open and
- 24:44Speaker 14: accessible to anyone that wants to utilize it. And that
- 24:46Speaker 14: could be someone that needs to come get produced to
- 24:49Speaker 14: feed their family. It could be someone that's you know,
- 24:51Speaker 14: looking for the perfect raby and a really high end
- 24:55Speaker 14: bottle of wine to go along with it. And that's
- 24:59Speaker 14: that's where we kind of bring everyone together through that.
- 25:04Speaker 5: It's you know, and I say this every time that
- 25:05Speaker 5: you're on the show, Evan, and people I think forget
- 25:08Speaker 5: sometimes that Capital Market is a nonprofit venture. But anytime
- 25:15Speaker 5: that anybody comes in from out of town, and my
- 25:17Speaker 5: wife told me this with her company, that they would
- 25:19Speaker 5: have people come in from all over the country and
- 25:22Speaker 5: you know, I got time and evening. What do I
- 25:23Speaker 5: need to do Capital Market?
- 25:25Speaker 13: I think it's very important.
- 25:26Speaker 5: It's number one capital market.
- 25:28Speaker 14: You know, not only are we home to the visitor
- 25:30Speaker 14: center for the Charleston CVB, but we we're gonna strive
- 25:37Speaker 14: to set the tone and experience for people's experience first
- 25:40Speaker 14: impression of Charleston.
- 25:41Speaker 13: And we don't take that lightly. I think.
- 25:44Speaker 14: We want everyone that has the opportunity to visit to
- 25:49Speaker 14: really be not only impressed by, you know, what it
- 25:52Speaker 14: is that we're doing at the market, but come back
- 25:54Speaker 14: leaving that. You know, these were amongst the friendliest and
- 25:57Speaker 14: helpful people that we've we've encountered in a long time.
- 26:00Speaker 14: And when you have the opportunity to work with our
- 26:04Speaker 14: farmers and producers. These guys are experts. If you have
- 26:07Speaker 14: a question, come down and see them. They love to
- 26:11Speaker 14: you know, they have a whole lot of knowledge and
- 26:14Speaker 14: they're more than happy to share it. And I think
- 26:16Speaker 14: that's one of the most looked over assets that we
- 26:19Speaker 14: have at the market is the strength of our producers.
- 26:22Speaker 14: You know, seldom these days do you have the opportunity
- 26:25Speaker 14: to interact with the person directly that not only grew
- 26:29Speaker 14: your fern or your tomato, but you know, can tell
- 26:32Speaker 14: you you know how to best care for these things.
- 26:35Speaker 5: And this is so much in the news over the
- 26:37Speaker 5: last couple of years. And I'm not going to go
- 26:40Speaker 5: political on this, but it is so much in the
- 26:41Speaker 5: news because people have been this whole farm to table thing.
- 26:44Speaker 5: It's even in schools. You know, they're doing it now
- 26:47Speaker 5: where people. You know, you go to some places and
- 26:50Speaker 5: you don't necessarily know where those flowers came from. More importantly,
- 26:54Speaker 5: when it comes to your body, you don't know where
- 26:56Speaker 5: that produce came from. You talk to these people that
- 26:59Speaker 5: are at Capital Market, ask them where was this grown?
- 27:02Speaker 5: When when did you harvest this? So what kind of
- 27:04Speaker 5: truck did you drive to get it here. I mean,
- 27:07Speaker 5: you can ask any questions. If people can't do that
- 27:09Speaker 5: when you go to certain stores.
- 27:11Speaker 14: Yep, it's it's unique. And it's not just it's not
- 27:16Speaker 14: unique because it's West Virginia. Every my family hates it.
- 27:20Speaker 14: Anytime we travel, we have to go to visit the
- 27:23Speaker 14: market or wherever we're going. Yeah, that's what you do,
- 27:25Speaker 14: and we strive to be the very best at all
- 27:32Speaker 14: of that. It's constantly evolving to work in progress. You know,
- 27:37Speaker 14: a lot of our farmers are starting to get older
- 27:39Speaker 14: and we're we're looking to the future, like who's what's
- 27:42Speaker 14: going to be the next phase, who's the next generation
- 27:44Speaker 14: to Uh, we're working towards some programs on really how
- 27:48Speaker 14: do we incentivize uh, not only folks to get into
- 27:53Speaker 14: the agriculture business, but what are we doing to help
- 27:55Speaker 14: support those efforts?
- 27:57Speaker 5: All right, so give us the details again about to more.
- 28:00Speaker 14: Absolutely, you can find all the details for Flowers after
- 28:03Speaker 14: hours starts at six pm. We're going to be in
- 28:06Speaker 14: the outdoor market. Check out capitalmarket dot net. You can
- 28:10Speaker 14: check out all of our social media pages where you
- 28:13Speaker 14: can find us on Facebook and Instagram. Shoot me a
- 28:16Speaker 14: message directly We'd love to see you again. We only
- 28:21Speaker 14: are able to do what we do thanks to the
- 28:22Speaker 14: support of the community.
- 28:23Speaker 13: Can I get one more plug in?
- 28:25Speaker 5: You can do whatever you want, man.
- 28:25Speaker 13: Because my dance partner, I don't know if you've heard
- 28:29Speaker 13: of it.
- 28:30Speaker 5: Oh yeah, how could you not know about this? What
- 28:35Speaker 5: you and Morgan are doing.
- 28:36Speaker 14: I just want to get a plug in for Team six. Okay,
- 28:39Speaker 14: we are. We are a week from tomorrow. We are
- 28:43Speaker 14: down to the wire. And I didn't know this about Morgan.
- 28:47Speaker 14: She's the most competitive person I've ever met.
- 28:49Speaker 5: She's from Logan. What do you think? I thought you
- 28:52Speaker 5: knew that's the way? We are down and down that way.
- 28:55Speaker 13: And we want to desperately bring home the mirror Ball NICs.
- 28:58Speaker 5: And you got some tough competition, but you guys have
- 28:59Speaker 5: taken a unique approach. And I urge you to follow
- 29:04Speaker 5: these these folks on on social media because tell the
- 29:09Speaker 5: people who haven't seen you what these I don't know
- 29:13Speaker 5: if their characters or your real life personalities that you
- 29:15Speaker 5: and Morgan Morrison have come up with. Talk about that
- 29:18Speaker 5: you know what.
- 29:18Speaker 14: Morgan is the creative director in this endeavor and I'm
- 29:23Speaker 14: I'm just here to help fulfill her vision and it's
- 29:28Speaker 14: the most fun I never want to have again.
- 29:31Speaker 5: You like your chances?
- 29:32Speaker 13: Feeling pretty good?
- 29:33Speaker 5: All right?
- 29:34Speaker 14: Cautiously optimist, cautiously optimist again. We'll take any support we
- 29:38Speaker 14: can get.
- 29:39Speaker 5: All right? All right? How do people support your team?
- 29:41Speaker 14: And Dancyman Stars Texas directly got a United Way of
- 29:44Speaker 14: Central West Virginia's page. You can find the link. I
- 29:47Speaker 14: believe it's sold out the actual event itself.
- 29:50Speaker 5: But they still support it though, I mean, yeah, obviously
- 29:52Speaker 5: with donations. But Team six quick text heresy is a
- 29:55Speaker 5: great segment. Evan Capital Market is the best telling. My said, Hi,
- 29:59Speaker 5: that came to me personal from Mark Curtis.
- 30:01Speaker 13: Oh, mister Curtis.
- 30:02Speaker 5: He's back in town.
- 30:03Speaker 13: Oh fantastic.

- 30:16Speaker 5: take home. He's retired, bringing bringing home some hardware, bringing
- 30:18Speaker 5: home some hardware back to Florida. But he's back in town.
- 30:20Speaker 13: I hope he gets that and we get the Marraorbor and.
- 30:22Speaker 5: He sent that would be a great night for all
- 30:23Speaker 5: of us. Wasn't it a great weekend?
- 30:25Speaker 15: Yeah?
- 30:25Speaker 5: Our event is Saturday night. So if you see us
- 30:28Speaker 5: coming in here, you know, with with trophies, Uh, then
- 30:31Speaker 5: then you don't know why I quick plug in for
- 30:34Speaker 5: the other station that I'm on here, and that's ninety
- 30:36Speaker 5: eight to seven of the Mountain, Wild and wonderful classic Rock.
- 30:39Speaker 5: We're Animal and Shockley and Amy and UH and Jeff
- 30:44Speaker 5: and Hollywood. Jeff were hoping to take home some hardware
- 30:46Speaker 5: for the almost two year old classic rock station, believe
- 30:49Speaker 5: it or not. In two years, as we put the
- 30:51Speaker 5: Mountain on the air and all of our stations are
- 30:52Speaker 5: up for awards, we're looking forward to Saturday.
- 30:54Speaker 14: Last last time ied in, I realized that classic rock
- 30:58Speaker 14: isn't what I used to think.
- 31:00Speaker 5: Well, you know, well, things change and retro. You don't
- 31:06Speaker 5: want to hear this, and the listeners have heard me
- 31:08Speaker 5: say this. Retro is now night is now two thousand
- 31:12Speaker 5: and five, That's what retro is now. So yeah, enjoy

- 34:44Speaker 5: Morning Dave, thanks for having Let's let's talk about the
- 34:47Speaker 5: whole idea behind this as so long as I mean,
- 34:49Speaker 5: I know you have you not the answer for all
- 34:51Speaker 5: of this, but the drug TakeBack Day has been going
- 34:53Speaker 5: on for ten years now, fifteen years.
- 34:56Speaker 18: I believe this is the twenty seventh or twenty eight
- 34:58Speaker 18: Oh okay, yeah, yeah, I know. Over that time, the
- 35:02Speaker 18: EA's collected a substantial amount.
- 35:04Speaker 5: Just have you turn that microphone towards you just a
- 35:06Speaker 5: little bit there, go ahead.
- 35:07Speaker 18: Okay, you know, just across the state of West Virginia.
- 35:10Speaker 18: I know it's the last time we collected over two
- 35:12Speaker 18: tons at the last two tons over two tons.
- 35:15Speaker 5: Yeah. Now, what's the idea behind this? I mean, what's
- 35:18Speaker 5: why is this important?
- 35:19Speaker 19: Well?
- 35:19Speaker 18: One, you want to keep these unused or unweted medications
- 35:22Speaker 18: out of the wrong hands. But secondly, studies have shown
- 35:25Speaker 18: that prescription medications are in trace of mounts in our
- 35:28Speaker 18: water supply, So you don't want to throw them away,
- 35:30Speaker 18: you don't want to flush them down the corps.
- 35:31Speaker 5: That's the probably the most common thing that people have said.
- 35:34Speaker 5: It's like, well, I just I don't need the pills anymore,
- 35:36Speaker 5: I don't need I just flush it down the toilet.
- 35:38Speaker 5: That's that's not what you're supposed to do.
- 35:39Speaker 18: And no, that's not what we're supposed to do at all,
- 35:41Speaker 18: because it will wind up in the water supply, which
- 35:42Speaker 18: ultimately can end up you know, even though it's trace amounts,
- 35:45Speaker 18: it can affect the environment. It can contaminate small animals,
- 35:48Speaker 18: things of that nature.
- 35:49Speaker 5: And you're set up Oliver Charleston all over the city.
- 35:52Speaker 18: We're going to have locations at the Pigley, Wiggley and
- 35:54Speaker 18: Canll City Ashton Place, Kroger Walgreens on Washington Street West
- 36:00Speaker 18: on the west side, the Drug and Porium ever By
- 36:02Speaker 18: Patrick Street Plaza, and the West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute
- 36:06Speaker 18: on Capel Street, and lastly Free Pharmacy on Oakwood Road.
- 36:09Speaker 5: Okay, and I do want to mention of course you're
- 36:11Speaker 5: with the Charleston Police Department, but the Knaw County Sheriff's
- 36:13Speaker 5: Department also taking part in this, and they they have
- 36:16Speaker 5: they'll have drop locations at their various other detachments throughout
- 36:21Speaker 5: Knaw County. So bottom line is there should be one
- 36:24Speaker 5: pretty pretty close to everybody.
- 36:25Speaker 18: Oh yes, yes, And we have a year round drug
- 36:27Speaker 18: box at our Record's division downtown at City Hall, so
- 36:29Speaker 18: if you can't make it, you can always bring some
- 36:31Speaker 18: by there.
- 36:31Speaker 5: What's the most common story I guess that you hear.
- 36:34Speaker 5: I mean, somebody gets a prescription for something, they get
- 36:37Speaker 5: a tooth pulled or or whatever, and they they some
- 36:41Speaker 5: people just don't like to take the stuff, and or
- 36:43Speaker 5: maybe somebody you know, tragically passes away and they've got
- 36:46Speaker 5: this medicine. I mean, that's I guess that's the most
- 36:48Speaker 5: common stories that you get.
- 36:49Speaker 18: Yes, yeah, there's oftentimes people bring in medication that was
- 36:52Speaker 18: left over from a loved one that had passed on,
- 36:54Speaker 18: or like you said that, you know, they'll have some
- 36:56Speaker 18: sort of procedure. They don't want to take the pain
- 36:58Speaker 18: medicine and they want to get rid of it safely
- 37:00Speaker 18: because that stuff can be can cause an issue.
- 37:02Speaker 5: And so what if I've got the stuff and I
- 37:05Speaker 5: show up at one of these locations, what's the process here?
- 37:09Speaker 18: You just hand it over to us. There's no questions ask.
- 37:11Speaker 5: Do they need to take the labels off or anything
- 37:14Speaker 5: like that, or they just is.
- 37:15Speaker 18: That that's up to them If they don't want to,
- 37:18Speaker 18: all everything that you give us is going to be incinerated.
- 37:20Speaker 18: So there's no need to worry about, you know, identity
- 37:22Speaker 18: theft or anything like that.

- 37:51Speaker 5: got these prescriptions, you don't want them anymore? You bring
- 37:54Speaker 5: them back and talk about it. You talk about the
- 37:57Speaker 5: process of how you get rid of them there, what's
- 37:59Speaker 5: that like?
- 38:00Speaker 18: Just come to any one of the collection sites we'll
- 38:02Speaker 18: have throughout the city that some of them you won't
- 38:04Speaker 18: even need to get out of your car. We can
- 38:05Speaker 18: come up and take them from you. We will collect them.
- 38:08Speaker 18: At the end of the day, we'll put them all
- 38:09Speaker 18: together and ship them off to the encinerator.
- 38:12Speaker 5: And you said, how many tons last year?
- 38:14Speaker 18: The last one in October of twenty four over the
- 38:18Speaker 18: state there was over two tons collected.
- 38:20Speaker 7: Back.
- 38:21Speaker 5: Wow, it's amazing because I guess you know, the world
- 38:25Speaker 5: of medications has you think in one instance that it's
- 38:29Speaker 5: changed a whole lot, sergeant, But then you think, well,
- 38:33Speaker 5: maybe it hasn't. And if you get these things off
- 38:37Speaker 5: the street, because tragically in your line of work you're
- 38:39Speaker 5: a police officer, you know that There's also been stories
- 38:42Speaker 5: over the years where people get pain medication. We're talking
- 38:45Speaker 5: about you know, somebody passes away, or we're talking about
- 38:48Speaker 5: somebody that just doesn't need them anymore. But we all
- 38:50Speaker 5: know the story. Somebody gets a tooth pull, they have
- 38:52Speaker 5: back surgery, whatever, and I don't need these, so I'm
- 38:55Speaker 5: gonna I'm gonna sell them, and that's one less pill
- 38:58Speaker 5: that'll be out on the street, that's correct.
- 39:00Speaker 18: And then even selling your own prescription medication, if it's
- 39:03Speaker 18: controlled substance, that's a felony offense in West Virginia, so
- 39:06Speaker 18: we want to help prevent that as well. We also
- 39:09Speaker 18: don't want those medications to, say, fall into the hands
- 39:11Speaker 18: of a child that.
- 39:12Speaker 5: Might be in the house. They could cause a really
- 39:15Speaker 5: serious issue. All right, So give us the locations one
- 39:17Speaker 5: not of you.
- 39:18Speaker 18: We are going to be at the Pigley, wiggil and
- 39:20Speaker 18: Canall City on mcorkorle Avenue, Ashton Place, Kroger on Fletter

- 47:12Speaker 5: Team partner, TJ. Meadows commentary he did about Pete Hegsath
- 47:16Speaker 5: and how much is too much for President Trump. The
- 47:19Speaker 5: piece is really good. All the TJ's stuff is not
- 47:23Speaker 5: just saying that because he's sitting across the room from
- 47:25Speaker 5: it right now. This one, though, is exceptionally good, mainly
- 47:30Speaker 5: because of the comments it got when it was shared
- 47:34Speaker 5: to social media, particularly Facebook. Because mister Meadows dared, and
- 47:40Speaker 5: this is commentary for me now, dared to do something
- 47:44Speaker 5: that appeared like he was questioning the Trump administration on anything,
- 47:50Speaker 5: which is a absolute no no in West Virginia. Apparently
- 47:56Speaker 5: Metro New let me give a couple of quotes here.
- 47:59Speaker 5: Apparently Metro News hates everything Trump Metro News is going
- 48:03Speaker 5: to lose their sports audience the same way many have
- 48:07Speaker 5: moved away from their news. Metro News would fit right
- 48:10Speaker 5: in with nineteen thirty nine Germany leftist BS. Why is
- 48:15Speaker 5: Metro News now mimicking MSNBC? If you love hath truths,
- 48:20Speaker 5: you'll love this commentary? What a croc of blank emoji there, etc. Etc.
- 48:29Speaker 5: Why are you the way you are? TJ?
- 48:32Speaker 21: Honestly, I was raised to be very patriotic. One of
- 48:37Speaker 21: the people that was very formidable in my youth was
- 48:41Speaker 21: my elementary and middle school principal. Her name was Georgie Price.
- 48:45Speaker 21: She was from the Arvon family in Boone County. They
- 48:48Speaker 21: were Greek immigrants. Her parents came here to this country
- 48:51Speaker 21: with nothing and built a life for their family, she
- 48:54Speaker 21: and her brothers and sisters. Part of that was understand
- 49:00Speaker 21: that in a republic, we have the duty to question
- 49:03Speaker 21: our leaders. We should do it, we have to do it.
- 49:06Speaker 21: If we don't do it, the system doesn't work. And
- 49:10Speaker 21: what mister Hegseth did right or wrong putting operational information
- 49:16Speaker 21: into Signal and I understand that Signal is an improved app,
- 49:20Speaker 21: but there are still safeguards in place. Procedures in place
- 49:23Speaker 21: in terms of what kind of information should go in there.
- 49:27Speaker 21: I think that raises a question as to whether or
- 49:29Speaker 21: not his judgment rises to a standard that is appropriate
- 49:35Speaker 21: for him to be the Secretary of Defense.
- 49:37Speaker 5: Happened once?
- 49:39Speaker 21: Did it again? Does his wife really need that kind
- 49:42Speaker 21: of information? Does his brother, who yes, works at the Pentagon?
- 49:45Speaker 21: But questions, you know, are still being determined, I guess
- 49:51Speaker 21: or being asked, and answers are being determined around what
- 49:54Speaker 21: level of information that brother needs to do his job.
- 49:57Speaker 21: Personal lawyers in the same vote. I don't see that
- 50:00Speaker 21: as leftist to question our leaders.
- 50:03Speaker 5: If frankly, whoa whoa, whoa? If it were a Republican,
- 50:06Speaker 5: I'd be asking the same question. But you're in West Virginia.
- 50:10Speaker 5: Dal shalt not if Reagan had the eleventh command, but
- 50:13Speaker 5: the twelfth is dal shalt not Trump or thou shall
- 50:16Speaker 5: not question President Trump in West Virginia. I've never been
- 50:19Speaker 5: a yes man on anything, And if you have any
- 50:24Speaker 5: doubt that that's not true, look at our Republicans around
- 50:27Speaker 5: the state of West Virginia right now. Now. Some are,
- 50:29Speaker 5: I will say, there have been some comments from Riley Moore,
- 50:32Speaker 5: Senator Justice, Senator Capito about niosh and things of that nature.
- 50:37Speaker 5: But otherwise you don't question Donald Trump in West Virginia.
- 50:39Speaker 21: Son, I disagree, and I don't think I did it disrespectfully,
- 50:44Speaker 21: not at all. People can read the piece. I never
- 50:46Speaker 21: referred to anybody. I never named called, referred to anybody
- 50:50Speaker 21: in a derogatory manner. I look, man, we have to
- 50:54Speaker 21: ask questions in this country as citizens of this country,
- 50:57Speaker 21: and if we don't ask questions, we find ourselves collectively
- 51:02Speaker 21: in a place that we don't want to be.
- 51:05Speaker 5: Look I and I said this on the Afternoon Show yesterday,
- 51:09Speaker 5: if for no other reason, I think Hegseth needs to
- 51:12Speaker 5: go because of a lack of judgment. Yeah, you know.
- 51:16Speaker 5: And and again it doesn't matter to me what you know,
- 51:18Speaker 5: what his party is or whatever. And I don't know
- 51:20Speaker 5: the gap personally. I don't have any issues with him.
- 51:22Speaker 5: I don't. Uh. But that's where it's it's it's a
- 51:26Speaker 5: lack of judgment and good judgment that would lead me
- 51:30Speaker 5: to want to distance himself if I were Donald Trump.
- 51:32Speaker 5: For Pete Hegseth, it's like a judgment, not so much
- 51:36Speaker 5: what he did. Uh. He made the same mistake twice.
- 51:39Speaker 5: Apparently you got to move on in my opinion, because
- 51:42Speaker 5: it just becomes a distraction. And people on the show
- 51:46Speaker 5: yesterday was saying, well, you know, the fake news is
- 51:50Speaker 5: making more out of this than what it is, and
