- 0:05Speaker 1: Here to help you get your day focused on God
- 0:09Speaker 1: as we take some time with God together.
- 0:13Speaker 1: How do you take time with God? Well, learn to
- 0:16Speaker 1: be responsive to God because God has spoken to you.
- 0:21Speaker 1: He does it in your own heart, giving you a
- 0:24Speaker 1: sense of need for Him. He also does it very
- 0:28Speaker 1: specifically in the Bible, which we call God's word. It
- 0:33Speaker 1: is God's.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Heart expressed in words to you and me.
- 0:39Speaker 1: And the great thing is that God has put His
- 0:43Speaker 1: Holy Spirit into your life if you are a child
- 0:46Speaker 1: of God.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And the Holy Spirit takes the words of the Bible,
- 0:51Speaker 1: and God uses them to speak directly into your own
- 0:54Speaker 1: heart and life, and you can then respond to Him
- 0:59Speaker 1: and speak to Him about what He's saying to you
- 1:02Speaker 1: and reorient your life the way it needs to be.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Time with God, so important as a major part of
- 1:11Speaker 1: your life.
- 1:12Speaker 1: We're looking this week at the question who needs Jesus,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and we're looking at the 1st 3 verses of Ephesians
- 1:21Speaker 1: chapter 2 in the Bible. Let me read it to
- 1:23Speaker 1: you again today.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, and
- 1:30Speaker 1: we talked yesterday about what it means to be spiritually
- 1:34Speaker 1: dead and needing to receive new life spiritually from God.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You were dead in your trespasses and sins in which
- 1:43Speaker 1: you formerly walked according to the course of this world.
- 1:48Speaker 1: According to the prince of the power of the air,
- 1:52Speaker 1: that's talking about Satan.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Of the spirit that is now working in the sons
- 1:57Speaker 1: of disobedience, among them we too all formerly lived in
- 2:02Speaker 1: the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the
- 2:05Speaker 1: flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children
- 2:09Speaker 1: of wrath, even as the rest.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Well,
- 2:15Speaker 1: These verses really describe the result of being spiritually dead.
- 2:21Speaker 1: You remember we talked about, uh, those first people that
- 2:25Speaker 1: God put on the earth and how they had a
- 2:26Speaker 1: wonderful relationship with Him and how when they chose to
- 2:30Speaker 1: disobey and dishonour God, something changed in their basic nature.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And their connection to God Himself was broken, they became
- 2:40Speaker 1: spiritually dead. Well, how that works out in our lives
- 2:45Speaker 1: is that we naturally live sinful lives.
- 2:51Speaker 1: It, it appeals to us to live sinful lives. Although
- 2:56Speaker 1: the expectations of our family of the society around us
- 3:00Speaker 1: may to some degree restrain us from living out our
- 3:04Speaker 1: sinful desires, they're still there, aren't they?
- 3:09Speaker 1: want to do what we know is wrong to do,
- 3:13Speaker 1: and we find it so easy to live just for ourselves.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Selfishly focused lives, we can't get out of that desire,
- 3:25Speaker 1: the power of sin in our lives, the power of
- 3:29Speaker 1: that sinful nature that draws us away from God. How
- 3:34Speaker 1: can we overcome that? We need someone to rescue us,
- 3:38Speaker 1: don't we?
- 3:39Speaker 1: Well that's what salvation is all about, that Christians talk
- 3:43Speaker 1: about being rescued from that sin nature that is in us.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Only Jesus can do that for you. You need Jesus.
- 3:56Speaker 1: I'm John North.
