- 0:08There are rules to surviving a horror movie.
- 0:11Don't split up, don't investigate the noise, and never say, "I'll be right
- 0:17back." Here, three friends break down the scares, the kills, the monsters,
- 0:24and the terrible decisions that got everyone there in the first place.
- 0:28We rate the scares, we roast the victims, and we ask the important
- 0:33question, would we survive?
- 0:37So dim the lights, pour the drinks, and prepare for spoilers.
- 0:43This is The Scarier Things Club.
- 0:49Hello.
- 0:50Thank you for joining us, uh, back at the Scarier Things Club.
- 0:53We're so excited that you're here.
- 0:55Um, Happy Halloween.
- 0:57Yay.
- 0:57We are getting so close.
- 0:59We're all … You guys have really great spooky time shirts.
- 1:03I'm really digging it.
- 1:05'Tis the season.
- 1:05We're all just festive.
- 1:07Yes.
- 1:08Yeah.
- 1:08I'm so excited.
- 1:09And I think that also is just a fun, um, reason that we chose this movie,
- 1:14Trick or Treat for this episode, because that's what we're gonna be all doing.
- 1:18Well, maybe not.
- 1:20Maybe passing out candy.
- 1:21Do y'all pass out candy?
- 1:22We're actually this year taking a trip to- Oh … Denton, Texas.
- 1:26It's the Halloween capital of Texas.
- 1:28So we'll be there that full weekend, 'cause Halloween's on
- 1:31a … Is it a Friday this year?
- 1:33Saturday.
- 1:34Saturday?
- 1:34Yeah.
- 1:34So, like, we're taking that weekend and going, which will be technically
- 1:39this weekend as this releases I guess.
- 1:41Ooh, yeah.
- 1:41And the city has declared itself the Halloween capital of Texas, and so
- 1:46the month long they have just tons, like all the businesses participate.
- 1:51Yeah.
- 1:52And they have Halloween they have a parade and all kinds of stuff.
- 1:55Like, their city hall is decorated all crazy.
- 1:59They have a big pumpkin like the Halloween Town pumpkin.
- 2:01Amazing.
- 2:02So I'm really excited for that.
- 2:03Aw.
- 2:03They have all … There's all kinds of fun stuff, so I'm excited
- 2:05to explore that a little bit.
- 2:07So we won't be doing our standard Halloween ritual, which is stay in and
- 2:12watch Trick or Treat and Halloween.
- 2:14We don't usu- nobody really comes to our door.
- 2:17Oh, okay.
- 2:17There's not a lot of activity in our neighborhood- Yeah … sadly.
- 2:20So.
- 2:21There are a few, but not … Every time that we've done it it's just, we
- 2:25always end up- We sit out there and- Yeah, and we- It's not worth it … we
- 2:27end up with, like, a ton of candy.
- 2:29Yeah.
- 2:29And so.
- 2:31That's funny.
- 2:31We don't get any trick or treaters.
- 2:34That doesn't surprise me.
- 2:35Yes, with our, our street of two houses on it.
- 2:37Yeah.
- 2:38I feel like for the next house that would be something that would be a lot of fun.
- 2:41Mm-hmm.
- 2:42Like, to be in a big neighborhood.
- 2:44But yeah, that … So you watch this movie every year?
- 2:47It's like a tradition?
- 2:48Yep.
- 2:50And you look forward to that?
- 2:52This is Mark's pick.
- 2:53It is.
- 2:53So we each have, like, our number one … like I wanna watch, which he likes it,
- 2:57too, Ha- the original Halloween- Yeah … from 1978, and so that's my pick of the
- 3:02movie that we have to watch every year.
- 3:04Yeah.
- 3:05And then he's … We watch Trick or Treat.
- 3:07It's one of his favorites, which I like this movie.
- 3:10I like it, too.
- 3:11I do like it.
- 3:11I like this movie a lot, but it's definitely more for him than it is for me.
- 3:16But- Yeah … I, but I do like it.
- 3:18I mean, for me it's, like, the one movie that just screams Halloween the loudest.
- 3:22Yeah.
- 3:23And it's, it's definitely … I mean, the, the guy, or the director
- 3:26and the writer, Michale Dougherty, he's obsessed with Halloween- Uh-huh
- 3:30the history of Halloween, and you can definitely tell that, you
- 3:33know, he put that into this film.
- 3:35Yeah.
- 3:35And so it just, it just has this, this feel to it that's just Halloween.
- 3:41I could see it being a part of, like, my yearly- I mean, like, every Halloween
- 3:45season I've gotta watch Hocus Pocus.
- 3:47Oh, we- That's like- We do too.
- 3:48Yeah.
- 3:49That's my favorite Halloween movie.
- 3:49We have a handful, like, a list of movies we have to watch- Yeah … for sure.
- 3:52I will say this.
- 3:55If you watch this again- Yeah?
- 3:58One of the- I will … one of the greatest things about it is that you're gonna see
- 4:02things that you didn't notice before.
- 4:04Oh, I can only imagine, yeah.
- 4:06Because it's littered throughout the whole movie, stuff in the background that
- 4:10you would've just been like, "Oh, that's just some person in the background." But
- 4:13when you go back and watch it, you'll be like, "Oh, that's that character." Okay.
- 4:16So you- That's exciting.
- 4:17Yeah.
- 4:17Okay.
- 4:18Yeah, I'll have to watch it.
- 4:19'Cause, like, at one point I'm, I was like, "Does, do any of these stories
- 4:23connect to each other?" And I was like, "No, they don't," but we'll get into that.
- 4:27Okay.
- 4:28So before we get, too carried away this movie Trick or Treat is about,
- 4:33it's, like, what, three or four different storylines all happening
- 4:37simultaneously on Halloween night in the city I had wr- I had it written down.
- 4:42Written, uh, Warren Valley, Ohio.
- 4:43Yes, where it's, like, cursed or something.
- 4:47And but there's, like, different rituals that you have to follow to,
- 4:50like, keep yourself safe on Halloween night, so, like, don't smash a p- or,
- 4:54like, don't blow out your pumpkin.
- 4:56Mm-hmm.
- 4:56Keep your c- your Halloween decorations up.
- 4:59Um, respect the dead.
- 5:01Always give out candy.
- 5:02Always check your candy.
- 5:04And then just all chaos breaks loof- loose if you do not follow every single
- 5:09one of those rules, and it just is crazy.
- 5:12So, you know, in this movie we see lots of Halloween costumes, so I
- 5:16gotta know, what were your favorite Halloween costumes growing up?
- 5:20Any super cringy ones?
- 5:24I wouldn't say cringey, but my favorite one probably, that I felt like the
- 5:30most proud of or whatever, was when my sister made this Belle dress.
- 5:35Yeah.
- 5:35Sewed it herself.
- 5:36It was like, the quality, the craftsmanship, listen, she did her best.
- 5:41I mean, how old was she?
- 5:43She would've been, like, early 20s.
- 5:44And listen- Okay … she's not, that's not a skill that she developed a lot.
- 5:48I think she- Oh … took it upon herself to just do this.
- 5:51'Cause I was probably six, so she would've been, yeah, early 20s.
- 5:58And but Belle was my favorite princess- Aww … and so I, it was all in love
- 6:02and- Yeah … she put a lot of work into it and she, like, she'll even
- 6:06herself say that was a tragic dress.
- 6:09But I was really proud of it.
- 6:11Um, and they, like, curled my hair all up and, um- Oh … heavy makeup, you know?
- 6:16Yeah.
- 6:16But, like, I was really excited one year 'cause I wanted to be Humpty Dumpty.
- 6:23What inspired it?
- 6:24Just the riddle?
- 6:25I don't know.
- 6:25I was a strange child.
- 6:26Like, I used to copy the dictionary for fun, okay?
- 6:29What?
- 6:29What?
- 6:29I was just that kinda girl.
- 6:30I don't know what to tell you.
- 6:32Hmm.
- 6:32But I wanted to be Humpty Dumpty.
- 6:33I thought that would be… I was definitely the only one.
- 6:37Um- So definitely an original idea.
- 6:38Yeah.
- 6:39And so I was all stuffed up.
- 6:41Yeah.
- 6:41It was egg-shaped.
- 6:42And it was, like, basically a sheet where I was heavy at the bottom.
- 6:46And I had white- … everything white.
- 6:49Tights and big, like, red… Like, white face and real, uh, red cheeks.
- 6:55And I was so proud.
- 6:56And then we went out in my neighborhood, and all these people we passed that
- 7:00we knew, 'cause all our neighborhood was, like, a lot of people from
- 7:03our church, and like, you just know people from- Yeah … town.
- 7:06So like, "Oh, Beth, you're such a cute marshmallow." And I was like, "I am
- 7:10Humpty Dumpty, you uncultured swine."
- 7:12Like, I was so mad.
- 7:14I am an egg.
- 7:15Like, how do you not know?
- 7:17And then like insult to injury, I fell off somebody's porch.
- 7:21But I was so padded that it didn't hurt, 'cause it was,
- 7:25like, probably a foot or so up.
- 7:27Wow.
- 7:27And I fell right off of there, but there was so much, you
- 7:30know, padding in this hill.
- 7:31What was it padded with?
- 7:33Probably pillow filling.
- 7:35They probably just got some from, like, the store.
- 7:37Yeah.
- 7:37Probably Walmart craft area- Oh, yeah … and just shoved it in there and- They
- 7:40used to sell, like, big bags of- Yes … like, cotton I'm sure that's- Polyfill?
- 7:43Yes.
- 7:43Yeah, polyfill.
- 7:44Yeah.
- 7:44I'm sure that's exactly what it w- what it was, 'cause I was lumpy.
- 7:47I was Humpty lumpy Dumpty.
- 7:48I was Humpty lumpy.
- 7:50Um, but I mean, as you're kids, I was like, "This is cute,"
- 7:52but everybody thought I was a marshmallow and I was big mad.
- 7:54But we did all, like, homemade costumes.
- 7:58I love that.
- 7:59Like, I did not, I don't recall ever buying, like, a bagged costume.
- 8:03Yeah.
- 8:03I mean, I was never that kid.
- 8:05Yeah.
- 8:05Same, it was the same for us growing up.
- 8:07Yeah.
- 8:08I don't really recall- Like any fancy costumes anyone ever had
- 8:12Yeah It was mostly just generic.
- 8:13I think maybe maybe the cringiest I think there's a photo of me dressed up.
- 8:17I got camo on.
- 8:18I'm the army man, and I, I think my face was colored with
- 8:21like green marker or something-
- 8:24or you know, uh- Did that stain your face?
- 8:27Probably.
- 8:28Yeah.
- 8:28But my favorite one though was when I got a little bit older, I remember I got
- 8:32this, uh, mask from, uh, probably Walmart, and it was this glow in the dark skull-
- 8:37skeleton mask- Okay … with like a black hood, and I just remember being so- Oh
- 8:42… I thought that was the coolest thing.
- 8:43'Cause you were so scary?
- 8:44Oh, yeah.
- 8:44That's fancy.
- 8:45And that- You were so scary … that's the… Yeah.
- 8:46That's- Yeah … the only one I remember that was actually store-bought
- 8:49and it was just a mask, and I just wore black- Yep Easy … with it.
- 8:52Yeah.
- 8:53I think my favorite was when I was in college, um, I went as a pinata.
- 8:59That's so fun.
- 9:00And it was like a big cardboard box with like a like the crepe paper, like, all
- 9:06around it, and it had like the head.
- 9:08It was like a horse pinata.
- 9:10And I actually like, I wore it to a couple of different things.
- 9:14But I went to a trivia night and I won best costume.
- 9:18Nice.
- 9:19And I made Alek go with me, and I made him wear a poncho, like one of those- Yeah
- 9:23like Hispanic ponchos.
- 9:24You need to find some pictures.
- 9:26I do.
- 9:26Yeah, I need to see pictures of your Belle- Okay … and- We'll see if we
- 9:30can get some and maybe we can post them.
- 9:31Ooh, yes, that's excellent.
- 9:33I would say my most cringy was- I went as Michael Jackson one year.
- 9:40Okay, but what- … what version of Michael Jackson?
- 9:44Thriller.
- 9:44Oh, okay.
- 9:44Thriller version.
- 9:45Classic.
- 9:46I did not do blackface or anything like that.
- 9:48Right, right.
- 9:49But I had, like… And this was, like, for a gymnastics lock-in.
- 9:52Me and my friend, we were like, I don't know why, but we were like,
- 9:55"We're gonna go as Michael Jackson," and she was the zombie from Thriller.
- 9:58Yeah.
- 9:59But I had a wig, I had, like, a leather jacket, I had a glove,
- 10:03and I'm pretty sure I had glasses.
- 10:05Yeah.
- 10:05And looking back, I'm like that's weird." Like, why?
- 10:08I don't know.
- 10:09There was that lady in Springdale that always dressed like
- 10:11Michael Jackson and went- That's right … and danced on the corner.
- 10:14Just on a regular Tuesday.
- 10:15It didn't even have to be Halloween.
- 10:16I… And she was good.
- 10:17She was really good.
- 10:18She was a good dancer.
- 10:19Yeah.
- 10:20And so she was at the one October show we did.
- 10:22Yeah.
- 10:22And so I thought it was just, like, a, it was her Halloween costume.
- 10:27And then she was like… I met her after, and she was pretty indignant.
- 10:31I was like, "This is pretty cool."
- 10:32So- Yeah … 'cause somebody had insinuated that she's frequently
- 10:35dresses like Michael Jackson.
- 10:37And so, uh, when I met her, I was like, "This is a pretty cool thing
- 10:40that you do." And she's like, "Well, I'm not always Michael." And I was
- 10:42like, "Okay, excuse me." And then, uh, we had another show that New Year's.
- 10:48To be fair, it was, like, '80s and '90s themed.
- 10:52Decades themed.
- 10:54And she was there, and she was Michael again, which is appropriate.
- 10:58Okay, yeah.
- 10:59And so I was like, "Well, maybe she just already had this in her closet." It's
- 11:02like, "This works." It's easy, yeah.
- 11:04But then I was going to Milk & Sugar Soap place in Springdale.
- 11:10Have you ever been there?
- 11:11No.
- 11:11You need to go there.
- 11:12It's, like, all artisan soaps.
- 11:14Okay.
- 11:14And they make everything there.
- 11:15Oh.
- 11:15And everything.
- 11:16Like, they're the, they're really pretty ones.
- 11:18So it's like Buff City?
- 11:19And they have all kind of… Yeah, kinda like that.
- 11:20Okay.
- 11:20And then they, like, make- other things, like candles and lotions-
- 11:24Yeah … and stuff like that.
- 11:26But I was headed that way, and she was on the street corner, Michael Jackson-
- 11:31middle of the day.
- 11:31But she's not always Michael.
- 11:33And I'm like, "Well, ma'am, it seems like the only time I see you,
- 11:35you are Michael." Now, granted, I wouldn't recognize her otherwise.
- 11:39But she, and her, her arm was, like, perpetually in a sling.
- 11:43I was gonna ask you If her wrist was better.
- 11:45No, it wasn't when I saw her later.
- 11:49But it's like she, then she said, "My doctor told me I needed to not
- 11:52dance for a while," and she clearly was not- … following those orders.
- 11:55I'm never gonna not dance again.
- 11:56Yeah.
- 11:57I'm not always Michael, and I'm not gonna stop dancing.
- 12:00But, like, it's, seems like you are always Michael.
- 12:03That is insane.
- 12:03I g- I completely, 'cause th- yeah, the first time that we had come
- 12:08out and saw, to, like, see you guys perform was at that October thing- Yeah
- 12:11which was really fun, by the way.
- 12:13It was fun.
- 12:13Yeah.
- 12:14Wow, I wonder if she's still out there.
- 12:15I think we, like, found, like, a news article.
- 12:18There were, like, she was, like, on the news, wasn't she?
- 12:20Yes, or maybe on television.
- 12:22Yeah, she was on TV.
- 12:23Yeah.
- 12:23And was, she was dressed up as a reindeer, I think.
- 12:25But doing Michael Jackson dances.
- 12:27No, I think she was Michael Jackson.
- 12:28I think she was doing Michael Jack- Michael Jackson dances-
- 12:30Yeah … but dressed up as a reindeer.
- 12:33So- For, it was around Christmas.
- 12:34Yeah.
- 12:35As a reindeer.
- 12:36Yeah.
- 12:37How… legs, like- She wasn't on all fours.
- 12:41Like, she was- She was- How hard would that… Can you moonwalk
- 12:44on all- Could she moonwalk?
- 12:49I, yeah, I think so.
- 12:50Surely.
- 12:51She did some version of it.
- 12:52She can't be Michael if she's- Yeah, I feel like you have to-
- 12:55… moonwalking … if you're gonna do Michael, you gotta… Did you moonwalk?
- 12:57No, I can't dance.
- 12:58Shannon.
- 12:58I can't dance, girl.
- 13:00No, and I think, like, we, like, told ourselves that we were
- 13:02gonna, like, learn the Thriller dance, and of course, like- Uh-huh
- 13:05that didn't.
- 13:05No.
- 13:06Yeah.
- 13:07But I want, okay, so we gave awards also at this lock.
- 13:12It was for gymnastics.
- 13:13It was a lock-in, and I won most bad.
- 13:17Appropriate.
- 13:18I know.
- 13:18Very cute.
- 13:19Yes.
- 13:19But looking back, it is… I do cringe a little bit.
- 13:23I was so, my gymnastics era, I went through these really weird phases,
- 13:30'cause that's like, that's, like, where I was really obsessed with Titanic.
- 13:33And then we did the Michael Jackson thing, and I just, I don't know how I had friends
- 13:37there, 'cause I was just such a weird kid.
- 13:40I don't feel like that's crazy or weird.
- 13:42Andy Samberg.
- 13:42I was really obsessed with Andy Samberg too at, all in that time.
- 13:45Anyway, so- But he's, I mean, he's an icon, so it's not like- He is an icon
- 13:50you know.
- 13:50And Alek kind of looks like him.
- 13:53Alek?
- 13:53Yeah.
- 13:54The curly hair.
- 13:55I've never thought about that.
- 13:56The nose.
- 13:58And the glasses.
- 13:59Now I'm gonna look at, now I'm gonna have to like look closer.
- 14:02Yeah anyway, so Good.
- 14:05Man, the Humpty Dumpty, I don't think I could have ever had been like that
- 14:09creative to come up with Humpty Dumpty.
- 14:13I don't know what it w- just we loved Halloween so much- Yeah … and
- 14:15so like, and I know we didn't do masks or anything like that.
- 14:18We did a lot of face paint.
- 14:19I just, that was always so fun- Yeah … to me to do 'cause otherwise
- 14:23I didn't really… Our lives were so like- regimented, and that was the
- 14:29one time it was, like, free night.
- 14:32Just like you can be creative- Free to be creative … yeah.
- 14:34Yeah.
- 14:34It's, 'cause, like, it was we… Like, my brother was in sports and I was
- 14:38in this or that, or we had church.
- 14:40It's like something every night from the whole time I was growing up.
- 14:43And so it was like Halloween's like one night where it's like all bets are off.
- 14:47Okay.
- 14:48You can just be creative.
- 14:49You can, like, plan it out.
- 14:50It's just something you look forward to.
- 14:52Yeah.
- 14:53It's a good time.
- 14:53And like your, your parents were involved too.
- 14:55Oh, gosh, yeah.
- 14:56Like with Halloween, like, I mean, making your costumes and, like, painting
- 14:58your faces- Yeah, it was definitely- … and stuff … a family thing.
- 15:00And then by the time I got a little bit older, I didn't wanna
- 15:03do as much for trick-or-treating.
- 15:05I was more concerned with dressing up to be scary and stay at the house
- 15:09and scare the trick-or-treaters that came to our house- Oh, amazing
- 15:12with my family.
- 15:13That was al- then that became a big, "We gotta plan what we're
- 15:16doing to the trick-or-treaters this year," and all kinds of stuff.
- 15:18So- That's so much fun.
- 15:19It was a lot of fun.
- 15:20That would be s- like, something fun to pass down too-
- 15:22Yeah … and, like, continue.
- 15:23'Cause, like, we didn't do anything like that growing up.
- 15:25I mean, like, we would go trick-or-treating and stuff,
- 15:27but, like, we never decorated.
- 15:29I don't think we ever passed out candy at our house.
- 15:32And so with Jay, you know, it's like, okay, we get to, we
- 15:35get to create that magic now.
- 15:36Yeah.
- 15:36And so, like, what do we do?
- 15:38I think this year he's gonna go as, I think originally we had talked
- 15:42about I really wanted to go as Holes.
- 15:44And so I would be, like, the sergeant or, no, the, what is
- 15:49Sigourney Weaver's character?
- 15:50What do they call her?
- 15:51The warden, I think.
- 15:53Yeah.
- 15:53The warden.
- 15:54Alek was gonna go as, uh, Mr. Pendanski.
- 15:57Okay.
- 15:57And then Jay would be a yellow-spotted lizard.
- 16:00Cute.
- 16:01But my brother got w- him, like, one of those, like, skeleton, like,
- 16:04dinosaur skeleton things, like, where you put on their head and then- Yeah.
- 16:07the, the spine with the tail.
- 16:08So we're like, obviously we, he has to go, like, as a little-
- 16:10Have you tried it on him?
- 16:12Um, he would not tolerate it.
- 16:14Yeah.
- 16:14Like, he was not putting up with it.
- 16:16So we'll have to try it again.
- 16:17Yeah.
- 16:17I think we got that maybe, like, a month ago or so, so maybe we'll see.
- 16:21But obviously we have to, like- Yeah
- 16:23have to be dinosaurs now, maybe Jurassic Park again.
- 16:25But yeah, I'm excited.
- 16:27What… Did you guys have, like, a route, like a trick-or-treating
- 16:30route or, like, a strategy?
- 16:32Yeah, there was, like, a… Our, our neighborhood was in a circle,
- 16:36and it had little loops off of it.
- 16:38Mm-hmm.
- 16:38So we would just… And some of, like, the back ways were, like,
- 16:41super hilly, so we'd be like no, time to turn around at that one."
- 16:44So it was probably, like, we had a mile route- Oh, right, yeah … to,
- 16:48like, when my, my parents would, like, walk in the mornings.
- 16:51So we'd pretty much just take that, that around- Mm-hmm … the thing 'cause
- 16:55then you'd start and end at the house.
- 16:57And it's like, "Well, this is our easy everyday morning route," so-
- 17:00Yeah … we just went and did that.
- 17:02Okay.
- 17:03Yeah, for us, it was just… I mean, my parents would drive me to, probably
- 17:10friends, family- Yeah … all that.
- 17:13And we would stop at those houses and do the trick-or-treat,
- 17:16you know, go up to the door.
- 17:17And then at some point, it switched to a hayride- Ooh … uh,
- 17:21which that was pretty fun.
- 17:22That is fun.
- 17:23Um- Love a hayride.
- 17:24Yeah.
- 17:25And so- But your… Yeah, you don't really have a good walking
- 17:28trick-or-treating area- No, no.
- 17:29Yeah, 'cause it was- … that you grew up in … yeah, it was, like, a rural area,
- 17:31and so everything was kinda spread out.
- 17:34So you couldn't really walk it.
- 17:35Yeah.
- 17:36What about you guys?
- 17:36Oh, yeah.
- 17:37We figured out, like, where the rich neighborhoods in Springdale were.
- 17:40Oh, yeah.
- 17:41And so we would hit those up 'cause they, like, Springdale is kinda, like,
- 17:44laid out where our house was maybe 15 minutes, like 10, 15, probably not,
- 17:49honestly, like, not even that far.
- 17:51So we would go hit that place up, like that neighborhood.
- 17:53Were they, like, the full-size candy bar type people?
- 17:55Oh, yeah.
- 17:56For sure.
- 17:57Yeah.
- 17:58Yeah, we weren't getting, like, toothbrushes or anything like that.
- 17:59It was, like, king-size Snickers, which was great.
- 18:02So the one that we got, and I'm curious if you guys got
- 18:05them too, peanut butter kisses.
- 18:08Peanut butter kisses.
- 18:09The things that are in the black or the orange wrapper?
- 18:12Yes.
- 18:13Yeah, I hated those.
- 18:14Oh.
- 18:14I hated them too, and I don't know who loved- And the
- 18:16strawberry granny purse candies.
- 18:18We got those a lot too.
- 18:18Oh, yeah.
- 18:19I'm pretty sure- Now I like them.
- 18:21The strawberry candies.
- 18:22Now you get it.
- 18:23Yeah.
- 18:23I'm pretty sure all of the adults- … were- I don't think I know what that is
- 18:27in on it.
- 18:27Because my dad liked them.
- 18:29Yeah.
- 18:30And so I think all the parents were, like, giving them out, and it was
- 18:33basically just- For each other?
- 18:34… for each other.
- 18:35Because I don't know anybody that liked those things.
- 18:39And like I s- you'd always get a ton of them.
- 18:41Yeah, you would.
- 18:42But they're, ugh, like- I think maybe they were just cheap for a big bag,
- 18:45'cause they're, they're simple- Oh
- 18:47orange and black wrapped candies.
- 18:50I mean, I love peanut butter stuff.
- 18:52I mean, I might like them now as an adult.
- 18:54I haven't tried them since I was a kid.
- 18:55That's true.
- 18:55You should try them.
- 18:55I haven't had one in a long time.
- 18:57Yeah, I've, I have not eaten one of these things since I was a kid.
- 19:00I hated them when I was a kid.
- 19:01Yeah.
- 19:01But you've got those sitting next to like a bite-sized
- 19:04Twix or s- Reese or something.
- 19:05Oh, yeah, no, it doesn't hold a candle- Like a little- … or,
- 19:08you know, the Reese's Pumpkins.
- 19:09Yeah.
- 19:10Oh, yeah.
- 19:11Oh, where are those?
- 19:12I haven't seen any of those out yet.
- 19:13Are those out yet?
- 19:14Oh, yeah.
- 19:14I'm already on my second bag.
- 19:18Do you put them in the freezer?
- 19:20Uh, the first one we did out of necessity because it was- Had melted
- 19:23it had melted some, for some reason.
- 19:25Oh, okay.
- 19:25I can't remember.
- 19:25We had to stop somewhere in the course of s- we just got this heat wave.
- 19:28Yeah.
- 19:30And so maybe that's what it was, but.
- 19:31They are pretty good out of the fridge.
- 19:32Oh, yeah.
- 19:33They are.
- 19:33'Cause then the chocolate's like really crisp and then you can like- Mm
- 19:35work on it, like the layers, you know?
- 19:37Mm-hmm.
- 19:37Yeah.
- 19:38Anyway.
- 19:38Mark doesn't eat things in layers.
- 19:40Oh yeah, no, I don't do, I don't do- You just- Are you talking about
- 19:42like you take the chocolate off and then they eat the peanut butter?
- 19:44Yeah.
- 19:44Oh yeah, no, I didn't know that.
- 19:45You start on the sides and you like t-, whittle your way around.
- 19:47Oh my goodness.
- 19:48Pin through.
- 19:48That's what she does with a Kit Kat.
- 19:49I know.
- 19:50I know, we talked about this.
- 19:51And then you gotta take, you like peel the top layer off of the chocolate, and
- 19:55then if you can you get the bottom, but usually you can't because it's so thin,
- 19:59and then you enjoy the peanut butter.
- 20:00Okay.
- 20:01So it's like two, it's like two candies in one.
- 20:06It's delicious.
- 20:07You should try it sometime.
- 20:09It's too much work.
- 20:10Yeah, but then, like, it lasts longer too.
- 20:12Like, it's, like, lasting you 30 seconds instead of five.
- 20:16Doesn't it, like, get melty in your hands?
- 20:17I mean, a little bit, but then you just- You just lick the chocolate off.
- 20:22Okay.
- 20:23Okay.
- 20:23Do you… Okay, which to that I ask, like, when you eat Che- do you eat Cheetos?
- 20:27Yeah, and that drives me nuts.
- 20:29Do you- Pretty much already know- Oh, that's the best part when
- 20:30you have a Cheeto Dust built up … do you eat the powder?
- 20:32Yes.
- 20:33You do?
- 20:33I mean- 'Cause I always, in public I always feel weird about it.
- 20:37But if I'm home- In public, yeah … so, like, at work I
- 20:40get, like, the SmartPop corn.
- 20:42Uh-huh.
- 20:42That's, like, the white cheddar, and I'm always like I really wanna lick
- 20:44my fingers, but I'm like, "Are these ladies judging me?" I mean, in public
- 20:49it's a little bit different, I guess.
- 20:51It depends on where I'm at.
- 20:53That's so lame.
- 20:53It is.
- 20:54Like, let me live.
- 20:55Just let me live.
- 20:55Exactly.
- 20:57It is.
- 20:58But, like, a Cheetos Puff, what, so I would not eat Cheetos Puffs in- Oh
- 21:02public, but the Cheetos Puffs, when you get done with that bag, there's,
- 21:05like, a film of the- … of the stuff- Yeah … around the edges, and you
- 21:09can put your finger in there and just a scoop of the… It's magical.
- 21:15Ooh.
- 21:15It's so good 'cause it's, like, greasy, fake cheese.
- 21:18The best kind.
- 21:19Oh, it's so good.
- 21:20That is delicious.
- 21:21Okay, I love it.
- 21:22Perfect.
- 21:22So, there we go.
- 21:25For a second I was like, "Did we do this at the scene?" Yes, we did, so-
- 21:27Oh, yeah, so- … Halloween night.
- 21:29Yeah, so I'm interested to hear what you think about this movie or, like,
- 21:33how you w- what you thought watching it.
- 21:36'Cause we've seen this movie so many times- Yeah
- 21:39that I was trying to really pay attention watching it, looking for
- 21:44things, and, like, trying to feel my feelings about it 'cause it's kind of
- 21:49now where it's, like, second nature.
- 21:52It's background.
- 21:52I know what's gonna happen.
- 21:54Okay.
- 21:54Yeah.
- 21:55So I'm interested to hear your reactions to it.
- 21:58Okay, I had no idea what it was about going into it, and I, just, like, the
- 22:05way it starts I thought it was gonna be, like, pretty straightforward.
- 22:08Mm-hmm.
- 22:08And, um, and then it just, it was un- it was unhinged.
- 22:13Yeah.
- 22:14It was just unhinged.
- 22:15And so I thought it was interesting, you know, 'cause, like, you've got the
- 22:18opening scene of, like, the man and the wife, which I was like, "Where is
- 22:22that actress?" I feel like I thought she was gonna be in it longer 'cause I
- 22:26feel like I've seen her in other stuff.
- 22:28Yeah.
- 22:28And I didn't look her up, so, like, that, it's okay.
- 22:30Her name's Leslie Bibb.
- 22:32But she has been in a lot of stuff.
- 22:33Yeah.
- 22:33Yeah.
- 22:34So I was like, okay, like, she's gonna be a prominent character, and
- 22:36then they killed her off so fast.
- 22:38And pretty quickly you get, like, okay, she, you know, like, wants to
- 22:42clean up, which I was like, same, girl.
- 22:44Like, I would wanna be, like, cleaning up the clutter, like,
- 22:47as soon as Halloween's over.
- 22:48Even after a party, after you were tired, you'd been at a party all night?
- 22:50I mean, probably not, but- Uh, but, uh, maybe it just depends.
- 22:55Like- Yeah … if I'm in my, like … I think it just depends.
- 22:59Yeah.
- 23:00Because I do hate the clutter.
- 23:02So when she dies right off the bat, I was like, "Well, where are we gonna go?" Like,
- 23:06I thought it was gonna be about these two people, but also I thought, "Okay,
- 23:10they're breaking another rule by, like, breaking out, like, a sex tape." Oh, yeah.
- 23:16That, yeah.
- 23:17Yeah.
- 23:17And then, um, he, like … He, like, passes out.
- 23:20Yeah.
- 23:21I'm like, okay, well, obviously you weren't that amped up because she's
- 23:26like, "Go put on the tape," and then he's just, like, passed out on the bed.
- 23:30I'm like, well, what was even the point in that?
- 23:33Because you just fell asleep.
- 23:36I mean, I guess he was just … It's like there's two different people.
- 23:40If it's like, I don't know, if there's, like, alcohol involved, right?
- 23:43Mm-hmm.
- 23:43'Cause, like, some people would be like, "Yeah, let's go," and
- 23:45then the other person's like, you know, you passed out- Yeah
- 23:48and then wake up later.
- 23:49But and then I just didn't understand, like, what the thing, like, was in her
- 23:53mouth whenever, like, he finally, like, reveals that she's, like- Yeah … dead.
- 23:58And I thought that she was hanging from the tree at first, 'cause,
- 24:01like, he walks out, he can't find her, and then he sees you know, an
- 24:04arm and a leg hanging from the tree.
- 24:06And so then it goes to the magazine kind … And I, I did kind of like
- 24:11the magazine kind of feel to it with the, you know, like, earlier that
- 24:15night or, like- Yeah … you know.
- 24:17I, I thought that was a cool touch.
- 24:19And so I was trying to read everything that, like, you see in
- 24:23the- Oh … opening credits, and I know I probably missed some.
- 24:26And I tried to watch, I watched this Friday, but I already know
- 24:29that, like, I've forgotten stuff.
- 24:31But, like, you know, I was like, okay, there's this town.
- 24:34And I think the, the bio of this movie is, like, people of this town have
- 24:39to join forces to, survive the night.
- 24:42And so I was like, "Well, interesting."
- 24:44That's not really accurate at all.
- 24:45No, that's not accurate at all.
- 24:46Yeah.
- 24:46I, well, and that, so I think that's kinda why I was like,
- 24:49"What?" This is so unhinged.
- 24:51What is going on?
- 24:52Yeah.
- 24:52And so who do we meet first?
- 24:54Is it, I'm trying to … So we … Is it, oh, it's like, is it the,
- 24:59the girls at the part, like, at, getting their Halloween costumes?
- 25:03Yeah.
- 25:03I think so.
- 25:04That's, that's sort of the first.
- 25:04Yeah.
- 25:05Yeah.
- 25:05Yeah.
- 25:06And so then I made a note.
- 25:08I was like, why is everything, well, like, why is everything about
- 25:13being a virgin in these darn movies?
- 25:15'Cause they're making fun of the sister, who also was in, oh, I feel
- 25:18like has been in a lot of stuff.
- 25:20I think, was she the, like, main girl in True Blood?
- 25:23I didn't watch that show, but I think she was- I, I didn't watch that
- 25:25show … anyway, so I was like, okay, like, there's, like, recognizable people.
- 25:30Yeah.
- 25:31Or maybe… Okay, actually, I think the first thing that you see is Charlie.
- 25:38Oh.
- 25:38Dragging the bag.
- 25:39With his street juice all over the pillowcase.
- 25:42Yes.
- 25:42Disgusting little boy.
- 25:43So also in that scene you will see Mr. Wilkins coming out of
- 25:47a s- store with his groceries.
- 25:48Okay.
- 25:49Which- Who's the principal … the principal.
- 25:51Yeah.
- 25:51Okay.
- 25:52And then, like, the girls, they pass the robot guy, the two
- 25:55people at the very beginning.
- 25:57They literally bump into them on the street.
- 25:59Oh.
- 26:00Yeah.
- 26:00Yeah.
- 26:00So, like, the opening scene, and, and, technically the opening scene is
- 26:03actually the very end of the movie.
- 26:05Yeah.
- 26:05And so- Right … you will see this girl, you can't see her face at the time,
- 26:08but you see this girl pulling a wagon.
- 26:10That's Rhonda coming from the rock quarry.
- 26:12Freaking Rhonda.
- 26:14Wow.
- 26:14In the car with the werewolf girls pulling up at the same time.
- 26:17Okay.
- 26:18So that's, like, their- Yeah.
- 26:20So they all cross paths in some ways.
- 26:23Like, they just, they don't necessarily interact, but they're-
- 26:27right on top of each other.
- 26:29Yeah.
- 26:29And which is cool to see that over time.
- 26:31Like, you start to point out those there or recognize them
- 26:34the, the more you watch through.
- 26:36Yeah.
- 26:36Yeah.
- 26:37But yeah, Charlie, good Lord.
- 26:39So yeah, he's, like, pushing these pumpkins off the fence, and I was
- 26:43like, I put, what's that chubby kid got against those pumpkins?
- 26:48And so, and then he, like, comes up, I guess it's Mr. Wilkins' house,
- 26:52and he's got the take one sign.
- 26:54Mm-hmm.
- 26:54Which I asked, did y'all follow that rule as kids?
- 26:58Like- Yeah.
- 26:59Oh, yeah.
- 26:59Yeah.
- 26:59You did?
- 27:00I think I did.
- 27:01I'm sure.
- 27:01I mean, I never encountered it, to be fair.
- 27:03You never did?
- 27:04No, because like I said, we were going to- Oh, like, friends' houses and
- 27:08stuff … friends' houses and stuff, and so I never encountered that.
- 27:10But if I had, I would've.
- 27:11Okay.
- 27:12And you did too?
- 27:13Yeah, I mean, it was rare there weren't a lot of people who just
- 27:16left a candy- they just turned off their light and didn't have anything.
- 27:18Oh, yeah.
- 27:19But on the rare occasion where somebody would've left a bowl,
- 27:22I would've taken just one.
- 27:23Yeah.
- 27:24I mean, you're choosing, though, like, what you're taking.
- 27:26Absolutely.
- 27:26It's like you're digging through.
- 27:27For sure, yeah.
- 27:28Yeah.
- 27:29So he, like, took more than, he took more than a couple-
- 27:33Mm … or more than one, I guess.
- 27:34Oh, he dumped the whole thing in his- Oh, did he really?
- 27:36Mm-hmm.
- 27:36I missed that.
- 27:37He ate a lot, yeah.
- 27:38And then it's the principal shows up, and he's like- … "It's not good
- 27:42for your diabetes, Charlie." Yeah.
- 27:44And he's just so, like, calm and stuff, and then he comes up, and then
- 27:48he's, like, wielding this huge knife.
- 27:50And so, I, I asked, "Knife safety, Mark?"
- 27:54'Cause, like, you're always like, "That's not safe to do with a gun," and so I
- 27:56was like, Mark's gonna have something to say about he's just, like, wielding
- 27:59this big old butcher knife around.
- 28:02Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 28:03'Cause I feel like carving a pumpkin- Yeah, especially when
- 28:05you're dealing with a gourd.
- 28:06You know, like, 'cause I think of, like, cutting a spaghetti squash or something.
- 28:09Yeah.
- 28:09Mark's always really weird when I n- wanna cut a spaghetti squash.
- 28:13He's like, "Do you need me to do that for you?" I'm like, "I'm an adult." But it
- 28:16is hard to get the knife through there.
- 28:18Yes.
- 28:18And a pumpkin's similar to that.
- 28:20I mean, it's hard to, you know.
- 28:22Yeah.
- 28:22You don't have a lot of control.
- 28:24No.
- 28:24So a couple years ago Alek and I went camping in Silver Dollar City
- 28:27or, like, by Silver Dollar City, and then we went to the Pumpkins in the
- 28:30City, and we watched, like- So fun
- 28:32it was beautiful.
- 28:33Yeah.
- 28:34And we, we watched this, uh, pumpkin carving master, and he was talking
- 28:38about how it's actually the safest to carve a pumpkin in your lap.
- 28:43Where you're going, like, down at it?
- 28:44Yeah.
- 28:45Interesting.
- 28:46'Cause like, he's like, "You have more control that way." And I was
- 28:48like, "No, I'm not doing that."
- 28:50That seems risky, but- That seems- I guess he would
- 28:52know … one wrong move and- Yeah.
- 28:55But did you feel like, did you come across the big party?
- 28:57Were you there at night?
- 28:58Mm-hmm.
- 28:59Did you come across the huge party with the biggest blowup pumpkins
- 29:02you've ever seen in your life?
- 29:03Yes, it's like down you can like, see it from the street.
- 29:05Yes, I felt like we had stumbled upon that.
- 29:08Like, Halloweentown.
- 29:08And I felt like I had walked into a movie.
- 29:11It was so magical to me.
- 29:12It made my heart so happy.
- 29:14Yeah.
- 29:14I was like, "I didn't know a place like this existed." I know.
- 29:17And like, as an adult, 'cause like, you know, like that part of
- 29:19the park is like, for the kids.
- 29:21Yeah.
- 29:21And so, but like, when we went there, it was like, bubbles everywhere too.
- 29:25Uh-huh.
- 29:25And yeah, it was, it was pretty magical.
- 29:26All kinds of black light stuff.
- 29:27Everybody… There was a big DJ, dancing, everybody, and I was like,
- 29:30"Oh, just let me walk around here for a while. I don't care." Yeah.
- 29:33Like, we didn't have a kid or anything with us so I'm like,
- 29:35"Well, this is kinda weird," but this is like, this is my scene.
- 29:39This is my pe- This is where I wanna be … my people.
- 29:41Yeah.
- 29:41Yes.
- 29:42Wouldn't it… Has Halloween always been your favorite holiday?
- 29:46I've always really liked it.
- 29:47Is it?
- 29:48It's just something our family always did together.
- 29:50Yeah.
- 29:50So I would say yeah, it's probably been a favorite,
- 29:54yeah.
- 29:54Yeah.
- 29:54That's good.
- 29:56Is it your favorite holiday?
- 29:57It is.
- 29:58Okay.
- 29:59And has it always been?
- 30:00No, I don't think so.
- 30:02Um, I've always really liked it.
- 30:04Yeah.
- 30:04But I think probably once we met- … and then it just kind of grew into that,
- 30:09'cause it was something that we, we both really liked- Yeah … and bonded over.
- 30:15And so over time it's just become this, this thing.
- 30:18I probably look forward to fall way more than I look forward
- 30:21to winter- Oh, for sure.
- 30:23Yeah … in general, so.
- 30:24Yeah.
- 30:25So yeah, it's just become not only my favorite holiday, but my
- 30:28favorite time of year all together.
- 30:29Yeah.
- 30:30Yeah.
- 30:31I have grown into like the person that like I want to put my
- 30:36Christmas stuff up like- Mm-hmm
- 30:37November 1st.
- 30:38I don't wanna listen to Christmas music yet, but I like fall and I
- 30:42do, like Halloween's fun, but like then I am excited for Christmas.
- 30:47And as a, like a new mom, it's like, okay, how do we create like that magic for Jay?
- 30:53Yeah.
- 30:54And so that will be fun, like watching him grow up- … and figuring out like
- 30:57what that's gonna look like for us.
- 30:58But anyway, um, so Charlie.
- 31:02So they're, they're, you know, carving this pumpkin.
- 31:05This principal is like flinging this knife everywhere, and then
- 31:10he's eating candy- And in all caps I go, "What the H-E-L-L?" Yeah.
- 31:19And this kid starts puking and, like, you can hear, like, his stomach gurgling.
- 31:25Sounds like he's either about to, like, blow up or poop himself or vomit.
- 31:31Luckily he threw up everywhere.
- 31:33And it's just… It's like you s- It starts off and
- 31:35it's, like, just a little bit.
- 31:37Right?
- 31:38And I'm like, "Okay." And then I'm like, Principal Wilkins was just
- 31:42trying to, like, prove a point, 'cause he didn't check his candy.
- 31:44And then there's more, and then there's more.
- 31:47And then I'm like, this kid is gonna puke his actual guts up.
- 31:51Yeah.
- 31:51And then basically he does.
- 31:53I mean, you don't see, like, any guts or anything, but it's just so much blood.
- 31:57It's bad.
- 31:58And the noise.
- 31:58Like, I can't watch it.
- 32:00I don't u- I don't have, like, a, a weak stomach, 'cause… and I can handle a
- 32:04lot of gore, but that s- that particular scene, like, it does something to me.
- 32:09I just, I can't.
- 32:11And so then I just won't watch it, I'll just look down.
- 32:13But the noise- Oh, yeah … is so assaulting to me.
- 32:18I agree.
- 32:19And I'm just like, I'm, a, I just have to, like, hang on for dear life.
- 32:22I'm like, it'll be over in a second.
- 32:23It'll be over, it'll be over.
- 32:24Just keep your contents of your stomach inside of yourself now.
- 32:29It's- So- … such a good job … does it help to know that
- 32:32it's chocolate syrup with thickener?
- 32:34No, not really.
- 32:35I was gonna say, it's so thick.
- 32:37Yeah.
- 32:37It is also very brown, but then when it's on Wilkins' shirt, it's blood.
- 32:40Yeah.
- 32:40Yeah, I think it starts out as brown because he's eating,
- 32:42like, a chocolate candy bar.
- 32:43Oh, so gross.
- 32:44And then, you know, like you said, he's, like, puking so much.
- 32:48But- Yeah … I did see a thing where the director got his inspiration
- 32:51from that from The Exorcist.
- 32:54Oh.
- 32:54Oh.
- 32:54And so that's… I guess that's why there was so much vomiting in that scene.
- 32:59Well, I'ma tell you, you weren't awake.
- 33:02But when I got sick, when I went into DKA, it was very much like that.
- 33:09Not blood, but- Oh, okay.
- 33:11I was like, "Beth!" … the, the volume and the force.
- 33:15Oh my gosh.
- 33:16'Cause I'd alwa- Like, that scene honestly hits different now.
- 33:20And I'm like, "Oh, that takes me back to-" Mm … that experience.
- 33:26So that's some PTSD.
- 33:27It was bad, yeah.
- 33:29I mean, it, it's, it… So I was like when I would watch that,
- 33:32I'm like, "That's excessive.
- 33:34It would never…" And I'm like, "Well-" But now- It's possible.
- 33:37Can I just tell you, you had texted me that morning, and you were like,
- 33:41"I am not feeling well." I did.
- 33:43And I don't remember- I forgot about that … what exactly I had said to you.
- 33:46I think I said, "Maybe you should go get checked out at urgent care or something."
- 33:50Maybe.
- 33:50And then Mark s- in our group text, he's like, "Hey, maybe pray for Beth.
- 33:56Like, maybe…" She- he was like, "She wouldn't stay still, so they
- 34:00had to put a tube in her." And I'm thinking, "Oh my God." So I texted
- 34:04Mark and I said, "Bro, I'm so sorry.
- 34:06I didn't realize it was that serious." And he goes, "Well, what
- 34:08she also didn't tell you was that she was having trouble breathing."
- 34:11And I was like, "Oh, okay." Well, I thought it was just really bad heartburn.
- 34:18And it probably was.
- 34:19It was.
- 34:20But there was a little more to it.
- 34:21It was that.
- 34:21There was that.
- 34:21But there was also some other stuff.
- 34:22And if, if I had gone to Walgreens to get- Yeah, 'cause I wanted some
- 34:27Tums or something like that … you wanted some Tums or something, I
- 34:28don't remember what it was, but you wouldn't be sitting here right now.
- 34:31No, yeah.
- 34:32No, there were a lot of things that if they hadn't gone exactly just so-
- 34:36Mm-hmm … I wouldn't be- 'Cause I, I- … which is crazy … I was starting
- 34:38to pick up that something was very wrong.
- 34:41Oh my goodness.
- 34:42But I did.
- 34:43Thank goodness.
- 34:43And bless his heart, Mark, he cleaned all that up in the Airbnb.
- 34:47Oh, Mark.
- 34:49You are seriously, like- He's too good
- 34:51one of the sweetest souls that I've ever met.
- 34:53Too good.
- 34:54Yeah.
- 34:54Like, Mark.
- 34:56Oh, man.
- 34:57I gotta tell you, so- We talk about gross things on this
- 35:00podcast- We do … apparently.
- 35:01Yeah.
- 35:02We like scary movies, but we also talk about poop involvement, I guess.
- 35:05Yep.
- 35:05Um, I had been back at work for maybe, like, two days b- after
- 35:09maternity leave, and Alek and I and Jay had gone to Taco Tuesday, as we
- 35:14do, and Cliff had made Italian beef.
- 35:17Like s- Okay … you know, like, sandwiches.
- 35:19Have you ever had Cassie's Italian beef?
- 35:23It's, like, roast and- I'm sure- … like, pepperoncini-
- 35:26Yes … and that … I'm sure we have.
- 35:27Yeah.
- 35:27Oh, it's so good.
- 35:28Yeah.
- 35:28So we had that, and then on the way home Alek was like, "Yeah, I'm not feeling
- 35:32too good." And I was like, "Here we go."
- 35:34I am not very sympathetic toward, like, towards sweet Alek whenever he gets sick.
- 35:39I should be better.
- 35:40But, like, we got home and he's like, trying not to vomit, and I'm like, "Okay,
- 35:44whatever. I'm gonna go deal with, you know, our, our son." And so I'm, like,
- 35:48rocking Jay, trying to get him to sleep, and Alek's, like, laying in bed, and he
- 35:51just gets up and he bolts out the room.
- 35:53And I was like, "Oh my God." It was like I knew he was gonna throw up.
- 35:57And instead of coming to, like, this trash can right here, he tries to go
- 36:01to the bathroom, and I just hear him vomit- Oh … all over the floor,
- 36:06'cause he didn't make it in time.
- 36:07Yep.
- 36:08And I was like, "Babe," like, "you leave it.
- 36:10I'll take care of it." And he cleaned up, he cleaned it up
- 36:13before I could get in there.
- 36:15And it's a good thing, because I stepped in the hallway and I could smell it.
- 36:18Ugh, yeah.
- 36:18And I was like, "Yeah, I probably wouldn't have-" That smell.
- 36:22It's so bad I- It's so bad … can't handle it.
- 36:25Like, whether it's my own or somebody else's, that is the thing.
- 36:30I don't get sympathetic puking.
- 36:34I don't do that.
- 36:34Like, if I see somebody else- Oh, yeah, I don't get- It does,
- 36:36that doesn't really have…
- 36:37Or if somebody's gagging, I'm not, like… It doesn't happen to me.
- 36:40But that smell- Yeah … I c- That'll do it … cannot.
- 36:44And so, like, there have been twi- two times I can think of- Like when
- 36:50I was very, very sick in Salem, and then one other time I had a virus
- 36:56and we were in our house that had carpet- … and I didn't make it.
- 37:00And Mark- Oh, no.
- 37:01Mark, you cleaned it up?
- 37:02He's so good.
- 37:04You are such a good man.
- 37:05He's so good.
- 37:06Oh, my goodness gracious.
- 37:09Seriously, though, like husband of the year right here.
- 37:13Yeah.
- 37:13Yeah.
- 37:13Wow.
- 37:14But, and I… Like, he doesn't get sick much.
- 37:18Or if you do, like, you're, yeah, please, God, 'cause I don't know if I
- 37:22can be as good as you, I'm telling you.
- 37:24Or if he do- Like, I'm sure you've thrown up since we've been together.
- 37:28Yeah.
- 37:28Yeah.
- 37:28Yeah, when's the last time you threw up?
- 37:29But, like, he usually just he makes it… He has a bucket or he, he- No, I go, I go
- 37:33camp out by the toilet … he'll, yeah.
- 37:35Oh, okay.
- 37:36So, like, it's not- I kind of- It's contained I, I go… If you
- 37:39can kind of- You don't risk it.
- 37:39No, yeah, I don't.
- 37:40'Cause if I f- There's a feeling you get.
- 37:42Yeah.
- 37:43Yeah.
- 37:43And sometimes you get it early.
- 37:45Yeah.
- 37:46Yeah.
- 37:47I will sit in there for a hour or two hours and I'll just wait.
- 37:50I'll just wait.
- 37:51'Cause I hate, that's the one thing I hate more than anything, I hate throwing up.
- 37:55I know.
- 37:55Me too.
- 37:55I hate it.
- 37:55I would do anything to avoid it.
- 37:58It's not fun, but I don't… Like if it happens, it happens.
- 38:02I hate it.
- 38:03Like, I will do any possible way- … to not have that happen, and, like,
- 38:08just power through and not do it.
- 38:09I'm gonna have to put, like, a trigger warning on this.
- 38:11Yeah, true.
- 38:12But, like, that's, a- although, usually if you would just get it
- 38:16over with- Then you feel better
- 38:18you feel better.
- 38:18And I know that.
- 38:19Yeah.
- 38:22Like, I, I just- You can't do it?
- 38:23I hate it so much.
- 38:25Can I tell you a really gross story?
- 38:26Yes, always.
- 38:27Okay.
- 38:27So this was in our last year of college, and that last year of nursing school
- 38:31too, and me and my good friends, we decided to have, like, a delayed New
- 38:35Year's Eve party at our apartment.
- 38:37And like, I've had gl- like wine, like, recording this, like, you know, like,
- 38:42we c- we're very, like, we don't drink a whole lot, but, like, w- we will drink.
- 38:47And so at this time in college, we drank quite a bit more.
- 38:49And, um, so we had been, you know, drinking and, and so my friend who was…
- 38:56There were, like, I don't know, seven or eight of us, and my friend Rosa was
- 39:01like, "I need some I- some Waffle House."
- 39:03And of course it's, like, past midnight, and we're like, "Oh my gosh, yeah,
- 39:05like, let's go to Waffle House." So we all pile into this car, me
- 39:10my friend Meg, and my friend Grace.
- 39:12We were, we had, had way too much to drink obviously.
- 39:15So we get to Waffle House, and, like, the three of us go to the single
- 39:18stall ladies bathroom, and that's just where it all goes downhill.
- 39:24You all went in the one stall?
- 39:25Yeah.
- 39:26Yeah.
- 39:26Okay.
- 39:27I mean, that doesn't bother me.
- 39:30I'm just, I mean, like- But yes … the logistics of it are just- Oh, it's small.
- 39:35Okay.
- 39:35Small bathroom.
- 39:36Okay.
- 39:37Yeah.
- 39:38Three drunk girls, yes.
- 39:39Yeah.
- 39:40So someone's sitting on the toilet having diarrhea.
- 39:44I think I am feeling nauseous, and then my friend Megan starts to throw up,
- 39:50but my friend Grace is on the toilet.
- 39:52Oh.
- 39:53She's also throwing up.
- 39:54So Megan starts throwing up, too, but in the sink.
- 39:58I sober up.
- 39:59It's like a bridesmaids kinda- Yes.
- 40:01Oh, no.
- 40:02I had to sober up so quickly because I was like, "We're gonna
- 40:05get, like-" Yeah … public intox.
- 40:07Yeah.
- 40:07And, like, we're g- like, gonna, like, lose our nursing
- 40:09license before we even get them.
- 40:11And then Megan clogs up the sink.
- 40:17So you- Oh … so you know what I did?
- 40:19You didn't.
- 40:20I did.
- 40:22Tell me you didn't.
- 40:24With your hand?
- 40:25What else did I have?
- 40:27I don't know.
- 40:29I didn't have anything else.
- 40:31I scooped it up.
- 40:32Oh.
- 40:32'Cause I had to… I mean, it clogged up the sink.
- 40:34This is at a Waffle House.
- 40:35Yeah.
- 40:36Oh.
- 40:36This is at a Waffle House.
- 40:38I'm not okay.
- 40:39I gu- So I know I said I don't get a weak stomach.
- 40:44I mean- That, the thought of handling- It's all right.
- 40:50You don't have to- … someone else's- No, you don't have to.
- 40:52Oh my gosh.
- 40:53Mark's like, you don't have to say it.
- 40:55It's… Well, yeah, yeah.
- 40:56Yeah.
- 40:57So I did that.
- 40:59I'm not that good of a friend.
- 41:01Oh, I'm not a great friend.
- 41:02I'm not gonna say that.
- 41:03But I was, in the moment, I was like, "We're gonna get arrested.
- 41:06We're gonna get arrested." But we didn't.
- 41:09So really it was self-preservation- Yeah … not friendship.
- 41:12But then afterward, when we got back home, I did wash her hair.
- 41:16I like had her like- Yeah … you know, overnight washed her hair
- 41:18'cause like- Yeah … she had gotten like stuff in her hair.
- 41:19But yeah.
- 41:20I did that.
- 41:21Oh, golly.
- 41:21But now as a nurse, I mean, I deal with stuff all the time.
- 41:25Yeah.
- 41:25You, yeah.
- 41:26You don't even wanna know what I had to do last week, so I mean, actually I
- 41:31kinda do, but so you can tell me later.
- 41:34'Cause I feel like it always comes back to the- We're gonna
- 41:36lose, we're gonna lose people.
- 41:37They're like- They're gonna be like, "No, those they always talk about- Yeah
- 41:41poop and vomit." Or if there's like a timestamp, they're gonna be like,
- 41:43"All right, an hour in is when they actually start the freaking-" I mean,
- 41:47we haven't even… So there's- Okay, but they set us up for it with Charlie.
- 41:51So he, he's done puking, and then he just keels over.
- 41:54Yeah.
- 41:54And I was like, "Oh my gosh, is he dead?
- 41:57Is he dead?" And so then he like, Mr. Wilkins like drags
- 42:02him back in the house, right?
- 42:04And then oh, what do you know, Mr. Wilkins, he's got trick-or-treaters.
- 42:08And so he goes to this door with blood all on his shirt.
- 42:12But it actually made me think of that episode of The Office when
- 42:15Creed shows up to the office-
- 42:16and he's like also covered in blood- Yeah … on Halloween.
- 42:20And he's like, "That is, that's a good timing." And so I'm like, "Well, maybe
- 42:26that's just his Halloween costume." I guess, but like what a terrible criminal.
- 42:31He was awful.
- 42:33He didn't, he was not covering anything up well.
- 42:36No.
- 42:36'Cause like he also… Okay, so you're covered in blood.
- 42:40There's also all this junk on your stoop that the kids are like, "Ugh." And then
- 42:47… And then he has it covered all over him.
- 42:50They're kinda like, "What is wrong with you?" Yeah.
- 42:53You didn't have to open the door.
- 42:56They're like, "We know you're in there." I don't care.
- 42:58I'm an adult.
- 42:59Yeah, this is my house.
- 43:00You're the… Not those little kids.
- 43:01And he didn't have to do that.
- 43:03And then when he was in his backyard, he bribed the dog with a finger.
- 43:07"Here, let me- Literal DNA … let me give you evidence and
- 43:10just let a dog take it." Yes.
- 43:13Yes.
- 43:13Terrible criminal.
- 43:14And then he, there are some other things that we'll get into later, but like he's
- 43:17like my least favorite charac- well-
- 43:20He's one of my two least favorite characters in this whole thing, that
- 43:23I'm just like, "You- No, he did suck
- 43:25you're just awful." But- You're not even good at what you're doing.
- 43:28But I did love the actor's portrayal of this character.
- 43:33You do?
- 43:34Oh, yeah.
- 43:35I feel like he's such a weaselly man.
- 43:36Well, yeah.
- 43:37I mean, he's- Well, but he fits the- Yeah … fits the bill.
- 43:39Point, but ugh.
- 43:41Yeah.
- 43:42I just, I don't like a weasel.
- 43:45I can't.
- 43:45Like Bear in Obsession- Mm
- 43:47and all these just icky, non- 'Cause he was, he was- Lousy
- 43:52men … he was super icky.
- 43:53Yes.
- 43:53He was- Yeah … I mean, he just, he nailed the part.
- 43:56Yeah, he did.
- 43:57I guess so.
- 43:57He's been in other stuff.
- 43:58He looks familiar.
- 44:00But I also don't know if it's 'cause I've seen this movie 50-11 times.
- 44:02Maybe.
- 44:04I thought the whole thing was so funny, like when he's
- 44:06like trying to bury this kid-
- 44:08and then like his own son is like, "Hey, Dad- Yeah … can I pick our pumpkins?"
- 44:12And he's like trying… Which, okay, so he goes through this whole thing,
- 44:16and then his neighbor comes out, 'cause he's like, "What's all that yelling?"
- 44:19Like, "What's he, what are you barking at, dog?" And he's like peeping through,
- 44:23like- Out of like- Through this hole- Yeah
- 44:26in his- Yeah … in his fence.
- 44:27And he's like, "Oh, it's just a sewer problem," still covered in blood.
- 44:32Yeah.
- 44:33And then I guess this kid is like also still alive though, 'cause
- 44:36he's like trying to fight him.
- 44:38Yeah.
- 44:38But I have questions.
- 44:40I do, too.
- 44:41What are your questions?
- 44:42Well, how?
- 44:43When does his head cu- get cut off?
- 44:45That's the thing that I just noticed when watching it through this time.
- 44:49Because, A, there was already a body in the hole.
- 44:52Oh, I didn't notice the body in the hole.
- 44:53Which I had never noticed before.
- 44:55When he threw this sack in the hole, there was already a body in there.
- 44:59And this kid was clearly not Charlie.
- 45:02I have, every time I watched it- 'Cause he had a white glove on … thought it was
- 45:04Charlie, but he's in a different costume.
- 45:06Oh, yeah, no.
- 45:07Yeah And he has his head and everything, but then you find out later that
- 45:10Charlie's head is in the basement.
- 45:12Yeah.
- 45:13Yeah, no, it's, it's like a kid dressed up like a clown.
- 45:15So where did he get all these people?
- 45:18Well, he's, he's a very twisted human being, as we see throughout the movie.
- 45:22He's probably kidnapping them It's like, uh, this is also the thing that I still-
- 45:26He's poison- he's poisoning candy.
- 45:27He is like the embodiment of all of the lore or the urban
- 45:34legends of Halloween, right?
- 45:36It's very pick me.
- 45:37I don't like it.
- 45:37He's doing too much.
- 45:39Principal, candy poisoner, mutilator- Vampire … vampire.
- 45:43Mm-hmm.
- 45:43It's too much Serial killer.
- 45:45You're doing too much, Wilkins.
- 45:47Yes, it's too much.
- 45:49And it, it gets him.
- 45:50Pick one.
- 45:50It gets him.
- 45:50Yeah, you don't get to be everything.
- 45:52He, he doesn't.
- 45:53No.
- 45:54No, he doesn't.
- 45:54So yeah, it's like, is this a yearly thing that he does if there's a- the other body?
- 46:00Or like- Well- I think so, 'cause it… did you see all the masks on the
- 46:03wall in the- Yeah I assumed that those were people he had gotten, like kids.
- 46:09Crazy.
- 46:10So then you think the son's innocent- Yeah … just, like, trying to like, you know-
- 46:14And then he's- … enjoy Halloween with his dad … stabbed his son in the head.
- 46:17You think he's killed his kid.
- 46:19I literally, yeah, thought that he stabbed his kid, and
- 46:21like, what happened to his mom?
- 46:24They don't ever say.
- 46:24They don't address that, I don't think.
- 46:25Just an- I think his mom died, though.
- 46:27Yeah.
- 46:27Yeah.
- 46:27Um- She's probably in the backyard.
- 46:30Probably.
- 46:31So yeah, I literally was like, "Oh," like, "don't tell me he kills his son," and then
- 46:37turns out it's, no, it's just Charlie.
- 46:38They're carve the… I, I guess they're gonna carve Charlie's head
- 46:41together- Yeah … is the thing.
- 46:45And then tell me what that little- That's freaking- … terrible little
- 46:47demon child, and then I felt bad for him when he's sitting on his stoop.
- 46:51By himself.
- 46:52By himself, dad's not coming home.
- 46:53Nope.
- 46:54Dressed up like his dad.
- 46:55Yes.
- 46:56I know.
- 46:57I also felt sad for him, 'cause he doesn't know.
- 47:00I mean, he, he deserve all, deserves bad things, but does he know any
- 47:05better- I don't know … if that's like, "This is what Dad and I do"?
- 47:08I have a feeling that, I don't know if we'll ever get a sequel,
- 47:13but I wouldn't be surprised if he grows up just like his dad.
- 47:17I hope not.
- 47:18Yeah, I need to know, like, what happens to him after.
- 47:20Like, does he go into foster care?
- 47:22Yeah.
- 47:22Does he kill those kids?
- 47:24Does he, he's like, "Well, this is what we would do"- Yeah … and
- 47:28then he's like, "Ha ha.
- 47:29I'm just kidding." Yeah.
- 47:31You know?
- 47:31And then they find out, I mean, they're gonna find all the bodies.
- 47:35There's a big gaping hole in the backyard that he never filled in- Yeah … so
- 47:37they gotta come and get the kids.
- 47:38No, they, they, he filled it in, 'cause it showed him, he had it
- 47:41all filled in- Oh, he was watering it Oh … and he was watering it.
- 47:43That's right.
- 47:43Oh, that's right, he did.
- 47:44But it's like a very obvious, like, mound.
- 47:46Yeah.
- 47:46Oh, yeah.
- 47:46Well, yeah, I'm sure.
- 47:47Perfectly rectangular- Yeah, yeah … body-sized hole.
- 47:52Oh, my gosh, yeah.
- 47:54So that was- That was my introduction- … to this movie.
- 48:00And so I was like, I couldn't have predicted anything
- 48:02that was about to happen.
- 48:03No.
- 48:04Just then.
- 48:04And then you swap to the kids looking for the pumpkins.
- 48:10Yeah.
- 48:11And that, then that whole thing went left.
- 48:15Yes.
- 48:16Let me scroll down because I think, I think the order… 'Cause I, like,
- 48:20do my notes like, as like you said, just like a stream of consciousness.
- 48:23Mm-hmm.
- 48:23So it's like the, the girl, like, the teenage girls,
- 48:27like, looking for their dates.
- 48:29Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:30Which I thought that was interesting, too.
- 48:31I mean, obviously, like, once you get to the end, you know, like, what's going on.
- 48:36But I just thought, they were like, "Oh, we're, we're from out of town.
- 48:38We're going to this party. Like, do you wanna be our dates?" And so I was
- 48:41like, you're just asking… Which, first of all, like, that was just a life
- 48:44that I never was destined to live- No
- 48:45like just being able to, like, pick up, like, random dudes, which
- 48:48I'm, I'm grateful for, right?
- 48:49Like, it's, it's a good thing.
- 48:51But I I was like, man, like, what kind of party?
- 48:54Like, what- Yeah … what are we doing here?
- 48:56And then they're making a big deal out of, like, it's the sister's,
- 48:59like, she hasn't, like, had sex yet.
- 49:02And so then I was like, why is this such a big deal in all these movies?
- 49:05And then I think it, like the sisters go off, like the sister
- 49:10and her friend just leave her.
- 49:12Yeah.
- 49:12And I'm like, "Well, where'd they go?" 'Cause she was
- 49:13like, "I can find my own date.
- 49:14My own date is fine." Yeah. And her older, her sister didn't want her
- 49:19to, but she was like, "No, it's fine.
- 49:21I'll figure it out." And then she called and was like, "I found you a guy." I know.
- 49:26I was so confused.
- 49:27I was like, this guy is, like, not it.
- 49:30Well, yeah, 'cause at the time you don't really know, you don't know, you
- 49:33think it's just a date for a party.
- 49:35Yeah.
- 49:36And 'cause, like, also when you watch back the scene, like a lot
- 49:39of the stuff that they say have, will have, like, a double meaning.
- 49:43Okay.
- 49:43Like, when they're in the, um, dressing rooms and they're talking, you can
- 49:47hear bits and pieces, and one of them at one point says, like, "Well,
- 49:51yeah." They were like, "I ate some bad Mexican or something," and you, like,
- 49:54you realize it, like you think it's food at the time that they're ta- but
- 49:57they're probably talking about a person.
- 49:58Yeah.
- 49:59They, they were talking about a person.
- 50:00Yeah.
- 50:00Definitely.
- 50:01And so, like, little things that they'll say.
- 50:03Oh, my gosh.
- 50:04They're like, um- Or she, yeah, she says that, you know, "I
- 50:05just, I worry about her. She was the runt of the litter." Yeah.
- 50:08Yeah.
- 50:08Yeah.
- 50:09Yeah.
- 50:09Mm-hmm.
- 50:11Oh, man.
- 50:12So then, yeah, like, come to find out they're werewolves.
- 50:15Yeah.
- 50:16There was a funny scene… Oh, and then, like, they say at one point,
- 50:22like, "Oh, what big eyes you have- Yeah … to her 'cause, and she's,
- 50:26like, Little Red Riding Hood.
- 50:28Yeah.
- 50:28It was a clever movie.
- 50:29I mean, it was just so unhinged and I I had no, I thought concept
- 50:35as to, like, just where we were, like, what was going on.
- 50:39But it was very clever.
- 50:41I real- I really did enjoy it.
- 50:43I felt bad for the little kids- Like, on the bus and- Oh, the, the Halloween
- 50:49bus massacre … oh, the bus part.
- 50:50Yes, yes, yes.
- 50:50Yeah, that was real- that was really sad to watch.
- 50:53Like, I said, as a parent, like, this is hard to watch.
- 50:56And then I kinda like how they're, like, talking about how, like, they
- 51:00never knew what happened to the driver.
- 51:02But, like, you see that clip of him, like, I guess crawling out of the water.
- 51:05Yeah.
- 51:05And then, so there's that, and then, like, they go down and you think that
- 51:10they've accidentally killed Rhonda.
- 51:13Mm-hmm.
- 51:13'Cause she, like, falls back and, like, hits her head, but then the, the kids
- 51:17are actually there- from the bus, and- 'Cause they knocked down all the pumpkins.
- 51:21Yeah.
- 51:23And I was … Like, I just, like, thought it was interesting because the
- 51:25one dude was, like, kind of hitting on Rhonda, or, like, you see, like- And he
- 51:29was kind of nice to her at that point.
- 51:31Yeah.
- 51:32Yeah.
- 51:33But- It's too late at that point.
- 51:34You lured her out there.
- 51:35Yeah.
- 51:36You intentionally brought this girl who you know is different.
- 51:39Yeah.
- 51:39And just because now you feel bad- … you don't get to do that.
- 51:44Like- No.
- 51:44Yeah, so- … that was one of the things that you, if you watch, you
- 51:47notice that he's intentionally trying to lure her out there at first.
- 51:55Yeah, he was flirting with her- Yeah
- 51:57at the house … flirting with her, and he has … At, at that point he has no
- 52:00intentions of, … How do I put this?
- 52:03Like, he's, he's not really … he's acting like he's flirting with
- 52:05her, but, trying, just trying to get her to come out there.
- 52:09Yeah.
- 52:09And then, you know, of course everything goes down, and then he
- 52:13feels bad about it, and, you know, then he's starting to, be nice to her.
- 52:18And that was one of the things that did kinda … Like, every time I watched it,
- 52:21it would always just kinda sit, just feel weird to me that, you know, he's, he was
- 52:26like, "Hey, I'm sorry, this was wrong. We shouldn't have done that." And then she
- 52:30just straight up ice water in her veins.
- 52:34Yeah.
- 52:34Casually waved him- Just casually waves at him
- 52:36and then left.
- 52:37Now, I don't f- I don't think this is … I'm not entirely convinced this is
- 52:41relevant, but I did pick up on it this, this time around when I was watching it.
- 52:45Whenever, uh, I think his name's Chip, the, the other little- The pirate kid?
- 52:49… the pirate kid, and he's talking to her.
- 52:52They're walking, they're on their way, and then, of course, this is our, the
- 52:55moment where she demonstrates that she is super knowledgeable about Halloween.
- 52:59Definitely.
- 53:00She's a rule follower.
- 53:01Yeah.
- 53:02And so one of the things that she mentions is, uh, talking about
- 53:06Samhain, is human sacrifice.
- 53:10And so- What did she say?
- 53:11Oh.
- 53:11I missed that.
- 53:12I kinda wonder if that was, like, her version of, "I'm gonna sacrifice
- 53:17these humans." I don- I don't know.
- 53:18Oh, yeah.
- 53:19Maybe.
- 53:20So I don
- 53:21'Cause she just straight up was like, "Yep, nope, I'm outta here." Yeah.
- 53:25Well, but I mean-
- 53:28They were so terrible to her.
- 53:30They were.
- 53:30They were.
- 53:30They were.
- 53:31And you can only imagine the what does she deal with on a daily
- 53:36basis 'cause she's different.
- 53:37Like, "Oh, she's not…" Then like they, I'm not gonna say the R-word.
- 53:42I don't like it.
- 53:43Like, they're not, she's not that.
- 53:44She's a, she's an idiot savant.
- 53:47She, uh, which I'm, yeah, I'll tell you right now.
- 53:49But like- I am, I am 100% Team Rhonda.
- 53:51For sure.
- 53:52Yeah.
- 53:52But like, I wrote down that like I feel nothing when she pushes
- 53:56the button and starts going up.
- 53:58Like, I don't, even though that one kid kinda started feeling bad about
- 54:01it, like, y'all, this was premeditated.
- 54:04Yeah.
- 54:05You knew this girl was gonna come out.
- 54:07You flirted with her, messed with her emotions- Mm-hmm … the whole time,
- 54:13acted nice, when you knew that y'all were gonna come out here and terrorize her-
- 54:18Yeah … out in the middle of nowhere.
- 54:20And now, because you and that stank little Macy girl- Oh, now she was terrible.
- 54:26She was.
- 54:26She was terrible.
- 54:27And you had the w- even the kid that, the pirate kid
- 54:33I couldn't tell, where he was.
- 54:36I think e- eventually…
- 54:37But, like, did you feel bad or you feel bad 'cause you got caught?
- 54:39Yeah.
- 54:40Yeah.
- 54:40Like, you were mean-spirited enough to put this whole ruse together,
- 54:46to put costumes and whatnot down there- Yeah … for no good reason.
- 54:51You get nothing out of this but to be mean and terrorize a
- 54:53person, and you got what you got.
- 54:56Yeah.
- 54:56And I'm just like, "It is what it is." I was like, "Yes, Rhonda,"
- 54:59when she deadpan face look at them just, "Bye-bye." Bye bye.
- 55:04Yeah, then she, when she gets to the top, I love the, the interaction between
- 55:07her and Sam- Yeah … where she just, they just k- it's almost like a nod of
- 55:10approval and then- Yeah … on their way.
- 55:12Yeah 'Cause she, she respects the rules and- Respects the rules … she knew-
- 55:15That's all he's really worried about.
- 55:17Yeah.
- 55:18Yeah, I said- So- … she knows the rules … so did you c- pick
- 55:21up on the driver at that point?
- 55:24Oh, yeah.
- 55:24When did you figure out about the driver?
- 55:28I didn't pick it up until the end- Okay … until they tell you what-
- 55:31When he- I didn't, I didn't either the first- When he was burning the pictures.
- 55:32Yeah.
- 55:32Yeah.
- 55:33I didn't the first time- Yeah … either, but when you
- 55:34watch it through again, you'll see that he's got cuts under his eye.
- 55:38Oh.
- 55:38And Mr. Creeg has scars under his eye.
- 55:41And then he's also wheezing when he comes out of the water.
- 55:43And the ring.
- 55:44Oh, the ring.
- 55:45I, like, listening to this guy breathe- … I was like, he is as close to death as it
- 55:52gets already- from like COPD or something.
- 55:54I was like, this man needs some oxygen The breathing drove- Yeah … drove me crazy.
- 56:00And I alway- like, that's my least favorite sequence of the whole movie,
- 56:04and, and Achilles slice- I said that.
- 56:07Uh-huh … y'all, I just, I c- something about that when it, in, in
- 56:10movies, it just gets me every time.
- 56:12Oh, yeah.
- 56:13Every time.
- 56:14G- I had always heard that would happen to, like, women, like,
- 56:17trying to get in their cars.
- 56:18Someone would be, like, under their car- Oh … and they would just slice it.
- 56:20Ooh, I had never heard that, but now I'll worry about it.
- 56:23Sorry.
- 56:23It's okay.
- 56:26Sorry that I did that, yeah.
- 56:28Let's see, what I thought.
- 56:29Oh, I really liked… Okay, so, he's, like, at his house and they, like, show
- 56:34the TV, and they showed, like, a quick scene from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island.
- 56:41And I was like- I thought of that Leonardo DiCaprio meme where
- 56:43he's, like, pointing at the TV.
- 56:45So that, I got really excited about that.
- 56:49Y'all should watch, especially Spooky Island I f- I mean, like,
- 56:54Scooby-Doo is something that should be up my alley, honestly.
- 56:58I just never- I, I enjoyed it when I was a kid.
- 56:59Yeah … it just was never, I never encountered it, ever.
- 57:03And then they had the live action movie when I was young-ish.
- 57:07I mean, and I loved Sarah Michelle Gellar.
- 57:09I loved Freddie Prinze Jr., like, I should have watched it, but I just never did.
- 57:14It just didn't happen.
- 57:16Yeah, 'cause it definitely wa- every single episode was, you
- 57:18know, dealt with some sort of- Yeah … paranormal- Yeah … type thing.
- 57:22I mean, I'm pretty sure it always ended up, there was always an explanation
- 57:27or there was always someone behind it.
- 57:29Yeah.
- 57:30Yeah.
- 57:30Uh, but it was still, there was some creepy stuff in there.
- 57:32Oh, yeah.
- 57:33Okay, so old Craig, and then he his dog is, like, eating the finger
- 57:41Like the principal had been over the fence Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:44And then it kinda creeped me out how, like, all of the lit up pumpkins,
- 57:47like, uh, on his front porch.
- 57:49Yeah.
- 57:50I wa- like I d- for that I was like Sam is so dramatic.
- 57:54He is.
- 57:54It's like it's like Home Alone but in reverse.
- 57:58Oh.
- 57:59Because he goes into his house, and then like, you know, he does
- 58:02all the stuff out on the front, and then upstairs he had the pumpkin
- 58:06with the writing all over the walls.
- 58:08Like just so mu- just the theatrics.
- 58:10And then he tries to walk down the stairs, there's the candy everywhere
- 58:12so he goes, like, slipping down, like, the marbles and whatever.
- 58:14Well, candy and glass.
- 58:15Yeah.
- 58:16Yeah.
- 58:16And so I'm just like, "This Kevin McCallister, is that you?" Well,
- 58:20so all right, so here's another thing that I kinda picked up on
- 58:23and maybe this is the reasoning.
- 58:26Uh, so the clown, kids that are dressed up like clowns- Mm-hmm.
- 58:29Yeah … um, they show up and they, of course, they're terrified
- 58:33to knock on this guy's door.
- 58:34I don't even know why they're doing it in the first place.
- 58:37Uh, yeah.
- 58:37And, you know, he kinda ekes out, you know, "Trick or treat." And then
- 58:41of course he opens the door, the dog comes running out, they think it's a
- 58:44monster- Yeah … and then he ends up coming out there and taking their candy.
- 58:48So the key there is that they said, "Trick or treat."
- 58:52They did not get a, a treat.
- 58:54So Sam is delivering the tricks.
- 58:56Oh.
- 58:57Because immediately one of the first things you see after that
- 58:59point, so the first thing Sam does is throws an egg at his house.
- 59:04And then he- Mm … comes in through the doggy door, and then of course
- 59:07some of the writing that's on that, that wall is, "Trick or treat,
- 59:11give me something good to eat."
- 59:12Yeah.
- 59:13And so the whole sequence there is he's, he's giving them, he's giving them tricks
- 59:18because he did not deliver- And so- He was, he was asked, "Trick or treat." Yeah
- 59:22And he did not give a treat, so that's why he leaves him alone when he stabs him.
- 59:25When he gets the candy.
- 59:26Yep.
- 59:27Yeah.
- 59:27That's, it's so weird 'cause then he just is like, "All right, guess we're good.
- 59:31I got this chocolate bar."
- 59:34Yeah.
- 59:34Which is random.
- 59:35But after that, though, after that point, he bandages himself up and now
- 59:39all of a sudden he's willing to respect the holiday and he's handing out candy.
- 59:42Yeah, but then he gets got anyway.
- 59:44Yeah.
- 59:44That's from his past actions.
- 59:45Okay, but what I didn't understand was that the jack-o'-lanterns
- 59:48were all still on the porch and I thought the jack-o'-lanterns
- 59:50were supposed to protect you.
- 59:53Well, they protect you from Sam Yeah.
- 59:56No, because the, at, at the quarry when all the kids were there, and it
- 1:00:02was all the foggy, you know, and the kids are like, the, the pirate boy
- 1:00:06was like, "Oh, there's still one down here that's lit." And Macy's like,
- 1:00:10"Ugh, I told you." You know, and she kicks it into the water, and that's
- 1:00:13when all heck starts breaking loose.
- 1:00:16When she gets the… sh- when she… That's when they come up, is when she
- 1:00:21extinguishes that last pumpkin that they took down there- … by the water.
- 1:00:25That's true.
- 1:00:26That's true.
- 1:00:28So I don't understand why they could come up to his door-
- 1:00:31May- … with all those pumpkins.
- 1:00:33Well, maybe it's 'cause he didn't put them out.
- 1:00:34Maybe.
- 1:00:35Oh, because Sam put the pumpkins under.
- 1:00:37Sam put them there.
- 1:00:38Maybe.
- 1:00:39Well, and I wonder if it's just kind of like one of those things where
- 1:00:41it's like, you know, the veil is like the thinnest or whatever between-
- 1:00:44Mm-hmm … the dead and the living, and so they're coming to get their revenge.
- 1:00:48And it was the 30 years.
- 1:00:52But like, I don't know, maybe they had never been disturbed before.
- 1:00:58Maybe.
- 1:00:59I don't know.
- 1:00:59Like that- Well, it's 'cause they they had said earlier that no
- 1:01:01one ever found the school bus.
- 1:01:03Yeah.
- 1:01:03Which to me, I'm like, "Did you even look?" But yeah- Because if it- But
- 1:01:06it's right there … it's right there.
- 1:01:06'Cause it's, it's just there It wasn't under water or anything.
- 1:01:09No, and I don't know 'cause he, why did he keep those photos for 30 years?
- 1:01:14Well, it probably, it probably haunted him.
- 1:01:16I mean- Yeah.
- 1:01:16Probably, but why do you wanna keep evidence of that?
- 1:01:18And also, what sick freak parents are like, "We know what's about
- 1:01:22to go down today. Everybody round up, we're gonna take a picture."
- 1:01:24I know, that really- Seriously?
- 1:01:26… that scene made me sad, and like that poor kid wa- just wanted to go home.
- 1:01:29I know.
- 1:01:29It's terrible.
- 1:01:30Like, he just wanted to go home.
- 1:01:31It, 'cause like, I just like… And of course you know, these kids I guess
- 1:01:34just had awful parents, but I just like imagined Jay being like, "I wanna go to
- 1:01:37home to my mama, like, where I'm safe."
- 1:01:39Yeah, and it's their, it's their parents that are the reason that they are there.
- 1:01:43It really made me sad.
- 1:01:44And they tried to make, their parents were tired.
- 1:01:46Well, there are a lot of people who have special needs kids- Yeah … that
- 1:01:51they don't do stuff like that.
- 1:01:53Right.
- 1:01:53Like, that's not- And they were chained into their seats.
- 1:01:56Yes.
- 1:01:57Chained into their seats.
- 1:01:58And I don't know if that was just like a normal everyday thing of like that's
- 1:02:04how their bus worked- Yeah … or if that was particularly that day.
- 1:02:08Ugh.
- 1:02:09But it's just like, it's so messed up.
- 1:02:11It's so, so, so dark.
- 1:02:13Yeah.
- 1:02:14That's- And they just tell it like it's a little, like, legend.
- 1:02:18That's why I think- Yeah, like golly, that is messed up … yeah, that's
- 1:02:21why I think he, he ultimately, fi- meets, meets his, uh, demise because
- 1:02:28I think it catches up with him.
- 1:02:31Not necessarily that he's, you know, all, all of a sudden he's like, "Okay,
- 1:02:33yeah, I'm, I'm following tradition now. I'm good." And of course Sam
- 1:02:38walks away, but I think ultimately through the actions of these kids that
- 1:02:43disturbed those spirits, that brought them back and then now they were- Yeah
- 1:02:48gonna go get him.
- 1:02:49But what I also don't understand so the thing with the kids must
- 1:02:54have been one of the first things that happened that night, right?
- 1:02:57Because he leaves Krieg's house, he's walk- he's standing on the outside.
- 1:03:02He turns around, and he's actually living across the street from the robot- couple.
- 1:03:08And that's when they walk up, and Rhonda's just, chilling.
- 1:03:11Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:11And then the, the girls hadn't been out there yet.
- 1:03:14No, the, the girls have been out to the party.
- 1:03:16At that point.
- 1:03:17Yeah, they're like on their way back.
- 1:03:17So that was first.
- 1:03:19But then like, okay so the kids were collecting jack-o'-lanterns
- 1:03:23for a long time, right?
- 1:03:25Because they saw, they went to the, that one teacher's house.
- 1:03:28And they're having the crazy, like, rager party.
- 1:03:31And, But at some point, the hot dog guy ran into a werewolf woman somewhere.
- 1:03:39Yeah, because the- Because he was at the… Like, when they come in- The
- 1:03:40guy got got, yeah I think that night.
- 1:03:42Yeah, you remember , they're like, "Is coach so-and-so in a hot dog costume?"
- 1:03:47I don't like, the, it was really crass the way that they worded it, but like- It,
- 1:03:52there was a party with, like, a teacher.
- 1:03:53They answered the door … and she was like, "You guys want some,
- 1:03:55you guys want something to drink? It'll be our secret," or whatever.
- 1:03:57Oh.
- 1:03:57And they pan in the back, and there's a guy in a hot dog costume
- 1:04:00and somebody in some other costume, and they were just really c- close.
- 1:04:04And but then, like, at the werewolf party, they're, like, zooming in or
- 1:04:09out inward, and people, they're, like, ripping people to shreds or whatever, and
- 1:04:13the hot dog is getting, like, rolled in.
- 1:04:17Yeah, so the hot dog guy got got.
- 1:04:18In the corner of the screen.
- 1:04:20So screamy.
- 1:04:20Yeah.
- 1:04:20Yeah.
- 1:04:20Yikes.
- 1:04:21I really enjoyed that, uh, Mr.
- 1:04:25Wilkins, like, that's how he died, though.
- 1:04:26I mean, he was terrible.
- 1:04:27Oh, yeah, that was good.
- 1:04:28But I thought it was… 'Cause he's, like, telling his son that he had a
- 1:04:30date, like, a hot date or something.
- 1:04:32Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:32So was the date the first girl that he just, like, left- … on the bench?
- 1:04:38I think maybe he got her earlier on.
- 1:04:42I don't, I'm, I don't know.
- 1:04:43It's hard to say, 'cause that was super early, too.
- 1:04:45That girl, which is also, like, a mad fear of mine that I will be killed
- 1:04:50in plain sight- Oh … at some point.
- 1:04:52Yeah.
- 1:04:52And it'll just be such chaos, or people will think it's a gag or a bit.
- 1:04:56Or, like, at a haunted house or something, and people are like,
- 1:04:58"Oh, yeah, that's part of the…
- 1:05:00Wow, what, what effects." Yeah.
- 1:05:02And then it'll be like, "No, I just got offed." I actually-
- 1:05:05"They're killing you." Yeah.
- 1:05:06Please care.
- 1:05:07Yeah.
- 1:05:08Yeah.
- 1:05:09Yeah, I tried to, I meant to put down a timeline to try and figure
- 1:05:12out when everything took place.
- 1:05:14Let's see.
- 1:05:15But, like- Really quickly … so I can tell you one thing when
- 1:05:19they're at the rock quarry.
- 1:05:20When it's Rhonda and Chip are just sitting up there by themselves,
- 1:05:25you hear werewolves howling.
- 1:05:27Oh.
- 1:05:27Oh.
- 1:05:27And she goes, "Werewolves." You know?
- 1:05:30And so I think that's- Yeah … that point whenever the werewolves are turning.
- 1:05:35Okay.
- 1:05:36And so that's that point in the timeline.
- 1:05:39So that's why whenever we get to Mr.
- 1:05:41Craig's house and he comes f- and Sam comes walking out, the girls
- 1:05:45are now returning from that party.
- 1:05:46Okay.
- 1:05:47This is also now after the, the rock quarry- Yeah … incident, 'cause
- 1:05:51Rhonda's now returned from that.
- 1:05:52And so… Well, and, like, before, like, when Mr. Wilkins is, like,
- 1:05:57coming inside from, like, digging that hole and covering it back up, Mr.
- 1:06:03Craig is, like, shouting for him to help him.
- 1:06:06Mm-hmm.
- 1:06:06Yeah.
- 1:06:07So all that in his house is happening at that time.
- 1:06:09Yep.
- 1:06:10Yeah.
- 1:06:10You'd have to like watch it multiple times and piece together
- 1:06:14little bitty- Yeah … things.
- 1:06:15Somebody probably has.
- 1:06:16This is like a cult- Oh, yeah … favorite It's, it's a cult favorite.
- 1:06:20So I'm sure someone has put together a timeline somewhere, but- Yeah.
- 1:06:24I mean, it's on, it's on Google.
- 1:06:26So this says like you start with the flashback with like the school,
- 1:06:29like the school bus massacre.
- 1:06:31Yeah.
- 1:06:31Early evening is Emma and her husband Henry, and like Emma blows
- 1:06:35out the jack-o'-lantern before midnight, and then is murdered.
- 1:06:39And then it's the school bus massacre prank.
- 1:06:42And then it's and then it's Principal Wilkins like killing that kid,
- 1:06:47burying him in Mr. Craig's battle-
- 1:06:53But I feel like because then it goes to the werewolf bonfire, which you said
- 1:06:58that you would've been able to hear during the school bus massacre prank.
- 1:07:02Or the- So I'm assuming- … the mirror howling
- 1:07:04yeah, I assume that's what that was So maybe all three of those
- 1:07:06are happening at the same time.
- 1:07:07Maybe so.
- 1:07:07Yeah.
- 1:07:07I think a lot of it is gonna be simultaneous.
- 1:07:10Yeah.
- 1:07:11And then the late night like a bandaged Mr. Craig gives candy out on his
- 1:07:16porch and sees Rhonda pass by, and then 'cause then it shows Sam- Yeah
- 1:07:24But then when it shows Sam, it's so confusing, this movie.
- 1:07:27So really the first thing you see is actually probably
- 1:07:30the last thing that happens.
- 1:07:32But you said that, though.
- 1:07:33Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:33Like, you see the last thing- Yeah, it's- … happening at the s- start of the movie.
- 1:07:37Yeah, the start of the movie is basically the end of it.
- 1:07:39Okay.
- 1:07:40It's… Yeah.
- 1:07:42Okay.
- 1:07:43Clear as mud.
- 1:07:44Okay.
- 1:07:44Yeah.
- 1:07:45It's
- 1:07:46I could not have ever come up with a story like that.
- 1:07:48No.
- 1:07:49And did you say it's based on a, an actual graphic novel, or they
- 1:07:52created- So- … one afterward?
- 1:07:53They created one after.
- 1:07:54Okay.
- 1:07:55Um, and he basically came up with this idea.
- 1:07:59First he created the character Sam, 'cause he wanted … He … Again, this is,
- 1:08:04this is how much he loved Halloween, is that he looked at all the holidays and he
- 1:08:08goes like Christmas has Santa Claus you know, Easter has the Easter Bunny- Mm-hmm
- 1:08:11and," talking about all these.
- 1:08:13And he's like, "Valentine's Day has the, the chubby little Cupid- Yeah … or, or
- 1:08:17whatever." And he was like, "But Halloween doesn't have a mascot." And so that's what
- 1:08:22one of the things he was, he wanted to do, was create this character that was kind of
- 1:08:27like the m- like the mascot of Halloween.
- 1:08:29Okay.
- 1:08:29And so that's how Sam was kind of born.
- 1:08:31And so he, he then, when he got an opportunity to, to write it, he ta-
- 1:08:36he took four of his short stories and, like, combined them all together to make
- 1:08:42this- Yeah, that's cool … this film.
- 1:08:44And it's, that's why it's like an anthology of all of
- 1:08:46his, of those short stories.
- 1:08:49Also interesting to note, this month as this episode releases I think it's
- 1:08:54October 13th, or will have been Oct- October 13th, they're releasing a new
- 1:08:59graphic novel- Oh … for Trick or Treat called Trick or Treat: Witching Hours.
- 1:09:04Next year will be the 20th anniversary.
- 1:09:05I have fingers crossed that we'll have some sort of news on
- 1:09:08a sequel, 'cause I would love to have more of this or another one.
- 1:09:12Kind of- Yeah … but I also, like … You know how some things are
- 1:09:17so good- Mm-hmm … in the one thing?
- 1:09:20Yeah.
- 1:09:20And then when people try to add to it or explain it.
- 1:09:25'Cause I, I sat here and I was like, "I wanna know more about
- 1:09:27Sam." Like, where does he come from?
- 1:09:28Yeah.
- 1:09:28What is his deal?
- 1:09:29'Cause it, like … I didn't notice … Maybe I have noticed before, but it,
- 1:09:34like, registered again to me that his insi- when he gets cut off, like,
- 1:09:38his insides are pumpkin guts- Mm-hmm
- 1:09:39and stuff like that.
- 1:09:40And I was like, "What?" Like, "What are you?
- 1:09:41Where did you come from?" But then I'm like, "Do I wanna know?" 'Cause sometimes
- 1:09:46the explanation is just not rewarding.
- 1:09:49Yeah.
- 1:09:50Um- Goes way back So there is an origin story?
- 1:09:54Yeah, like Sam- Well, there's, there's- … Sandlin or something.
- 1:09:58Yeah, I think it goes back to, to Samhain.
- 1:10:00Samhain.
- 1:10:01But S- But- … that character?
- 1:10:03So in the, in the, in the graphic novel- Yeah … I've, which I
- 1:10:06have not read, so I don't know.
- 1:10:07I've just, you know, in looking at some, some stuff that people have
- 1:10:11put together on, kind of the history.
- 1:10:15I don't know about the origin, but some of the history of Sam.
- 1:10:18Yeah.
- 1:10:19And so there have been s- I mean, I'm assuming that's why his name
- 1:10:21is Sam 'cause it's spelled- Yes
- 1:10:24Sa- like Samhain is spelled S-A- S-A-M, yeah … M-H-A-I-N.
- 1:10:27Yeah.
- 1:10:27And so that's where S- Sam comes from.
- 1:10:29Okay.
- 1:10:30Is from the spelling of, of Samhain.
- 1:10:32Yeah.
- 1:10:33But yeah I mean, there's definitely some history there.
- 1:10:38I don't really know what it is, and if you'll notice in the movie
- 1:10:42for that scene where it goes back to 30 years with the bus- Mm-hmm
- 1:10:47massacre, there's one scene where they drive.
- 1:10:49They're driving through an area and you see Sam.
- 1:10:52Yes, on the side of the road.
- 1:10:53On the side of the road.
- 1:10:54Oh, no.
- 1:10:55So he's, he's been around for a long, long time.
- 1:10:58And like I said, I don't really know.
- 1:11:00I need to do some research and see how far back he goes, but- Yeah
- 1:11:04I don't know.
- 1:11:05I mean, I just feel like there, there's more opportunity.
- 1:11:06Like, I just love a good anthology.
- 1:11:08I do, too.
- 1:11:08Yeah.
- 1:11:08And I really like movies where stuff overlaps.
- 1:11:13Mm-hmm.
- 1:11:14And it's revealed over time that, like, things that seem disconnected are
- 1:11:17actually really, it's all integrated.
- 1:11:21I like that because it's hard to do.
- 1:11:26Yeah.
- 1:11:26It's not just, like, a linear story, and I think that's really creative,
- 1:11:30and I like to discover those things.
- 1:11:32So yeah, I mean, I would like for them to be able to do another one.
- 1:11:36I just fear, you know- No, and I- … what it is … I get it.
- 1:11:38I mean- Yeah … and I'm, I'm such a huge fan of the character
- 1:11:41that, like, I don't wanna see a, a bad version of it, but- Yeah.
- 1:11:44I do love the fact that, as we said, we watch this movie every year.
- 1:11:49Yeah.
- 1:11:49And every year, it seems like I see or spot something in this movie
- 1:11:54that I've never noticed before.
- 1:11:55Yeah.
- 1:11:56Yeah.
- 1:11:56Just some little detail or some, some character in the background I notice.
- 1:12:00I noticed, uh, so when we, we talked about earlier with, uh, Charlie smacked,
- 1:12:05smashing the pumpkins along the fence row.
- 1:12:08Across the street you see Schrader pushing his cart.
- 1:12:11Yeah.
- 1:12:12And so, and then of course later he's talking to the other kids,
- 1:12:15and he's like, "Yeah, some kid was smashing all the pumpkins." Yeah.
- 1:12:18And so- So that's why he couldn't find- Yeah … as many as he should have.
- 1:12:22But it's they kinda make it out to, like-
- 1:12:26They couldn't find enough, and then the, and then Macy is like, "Oh, I know
- 1:12:31where to go." And they go to Rhonda's house, and she has a billion of them.
- 1:12:36It makes it kinda seem like, to even the viewer, that they only went to her
- 1:12:42house because they needed more pumpkins.
- 1:12:48And then she was like, "Yeah, Schrader, use your charm to a- to
- 1:12:54get the pumpkins that they needed."
- 1:12:57And then she ended up going with them.
- 1:12:58So- And then that girl was annoyed, but it clearly was from the jump they
- 1:13:04intended to do that to her because they had all that stuff down at the quarry.
- 1:13:08Yeah, so every single one of these stories is, represents a costume, if
- 1:13:16you will, of the people that start out.
- 1:13:20So in every single one of them, they're seen as one thing, and then by the time
- 1:13:23the story is done, they're another.
- 1:13:26So like, the kids, you think they're just rounding up these pumpkins
- 1:13:30for whatever reason, just innocent.
- 1:13:33Turns out they're not so innocent.
- 1:13:34You have Mr. Wilkins.
- 1:13:37Turns out he's this mask-wearing serial killer toward the end of it, of course.
- 1:13:42You know, he's, he's a principal handing out candy when you first
- 1:13:45see him, but then slowly we see, okay, no, that's not who that is.
- 1:13:50Mr. Krieg, we find out that he's the bus driver from that horrible
- 1:13:55incident that happened in the past.
- 1:13:58And then of course the girls, we find out they're not just girls looking for a date,
- 1:14:01they're werewolves looking for victims
- 1:14:06Right, but like their costume didn't really… That's, but like the, the
- 1:14:12dialogue, it, the what they're talking like makes it seem like they're just
- 1:14:20going there to get pumpkins, but that's, that becomes… I don't know
- 1:14:24why they, it made it seem like that.
- 1:14:27Because they knew they were gonna go get her, so why didn't
- 1:14:32they just start with her?
- 1:14:33Why did they have to collect pumpkins from somewhere else?
- 1:14:35They know she had an abundance of pumpkins.
- 1:14:37She would've had plenty of pumpkins.
- 1:14:38They could've just said, "Hey Rhonda, come hang out with us at the quarry and bring
- 1:14:42eight pumpkins." I'll have to go back and watch- I- … 'cause I could've swore I
- 1:14:46remember them saying, "If we'd known she had this, we would've just started here."
- 1:14:51I think you're right.
- 1:14:53Because they made it sound like they just went to her house to get the pumpkins
- 1:15:00So if they'd known she had them all in one spot, we would've just
- 1:15:03started here, but then her coming to the quarry didn't… They didn't
- 1:15:07act like they went there for her.
- 1:15:10They acted like they went there only for the pumpkins.
- 1:15:13But they definitely went there to get her because they were
- 1:15:16gonna play that prank on her.
- 1:15:18Maybe it was like a two for one.
- 1:15:20I mean, they were gonna get somebody down there
- 1:15:25Yeah, I'd, I'd have- I don't know … I'd have to go back and watch.
- 1:15:27'Cause I mean, they, the, the plan was to take her down there.
- 1:15:30So- And so I, I would have to go back and watch, 'cause the only thing I
- 1:15:32remember is them saying, "If we'd known that she had this, we could've just
- 1:15:38started here." C- but Macy knew that apparently the whole time, because
- 1:15:42when they couldn't get enough pumpkins, 'cause somebody had smashed them all,
- 1:15:45she was like, "Oh, I know where to go."
- 1:15:47And then they go to Rhonda's house, where they were gonna go the whole time.
- 1:15:51Maybe just she knew.
- 1:15:52So why did you have to ask Mr. Wilkins for his pumpkin?
- 1:15:56Why'd you have to ask your creepy teacher for her pumpkin?
- 1:15:59You just sent the, your friends on a wild goose chase when you
- 1:16:02could've just gone to Rhonda's house.
- 1:16:04Because she's crazy.
- 1:16:05She's a master manipulator.
- 1:16:06Can't stand that kid.
- 1:16:07I'm so glad she got- 'Cause she was the ring leader … killed.
- 1:16:09She's the worst.
- 1:16:10Yeah, she was terrible.
- 1:16:11Oh, I can't stand her.
- 1:16:11And she's, like, dressed as, like, an angel.
- 1:16:13Yeah.
- 1:16:15Ugh, terrible.
- 1:16:19All right, so dumb decisions.
- 1:16:21I would say taking down dec- decorations on the night of Halloween.
- 1:16:27Yeah.
- 1:16:27That's definitely something.
- 1:16:28I mean, it, kinda like what was saying earlier, I don't know why you would
- 1:16:31even… You know, it's usually late.
- 1:16:34Yeah.
- 1:16:34Like, go to bed.
- 1:16:36Do it in the morning, sunshine.
- 1:16:38You got daylight.
- 1:16:39You can see what you're doing.
- 1:16:42But then- Put your stuff up … you would have more time to do more
- 1:16:44productive things in the morning.
- 1:16:46I guess.
- 1:16:46I mean, like, even though, like she said, his mom was coming
- 1:16:50or something the next day.
- 1:16:51Yeah.
- 1:16:52I'm like, "I don't care." If I'm coming home from a party, whether
- 1:16:57I'm drunk or not, I'm gonna be tired.
- 1:16:59And my parents, your parents, they're just gonna have to accept this is who I am.
- 1:17:04Take it or leave it.
- 1:17:05Yeah, for real.
- 1:17:06There will be Halloween decorations up.
- 1:17:08Yeah.
- 1:17:09And then also put that, uh, when the kids are down in the quarry- … and
- 1:17:15they're like, "Okay. Well, party's over 'cause Rhonda's upset," and
- 1:17:20so they go to pick, pick up their things over by where the bus is.
- 1:17:24Again, just come back later.
- 1:17:27Clearly, no one goes here.
- 1:17:29Or just leave it.
- 1:17:30Yeah, they would've found this bus.
- 1:17:31Just leave it- Yeah … and come back later.
- 1:17:33Or don't come back.
- 1:17:34Or don't come back.
- 1:17:35Yeah, 'cause it… What, what of value, what do they even have over there?
- 1:17:38Yeah.
- 1:17:39So that would be the other dumb decision they have.
- 1:17:41But that was really the only thing that I saw or one- anything
- 1:17:45that I really picked up on.
- 1:17:46Yeah.
- 1:17:46I put, like, disrespecting any Halloween- Mm … tradition or rule.
- 1:17:52I mean, being a, just being a bad person, I guess.
- 1:17:56It's not… Yeah.
- 1:17:58Let's go.
- 1:17:58I, I do like that the good people in this movie, they
- 1:18:04seemed pretty well safe, I guess.
- 1:18:06I mean, like, well, no.
- 1:18:07What about the werewolves?
- 1:18:08I mean- The werewolf victims, I guess.
- 1:18:11So maybe not.
- 1:18:12So really only Rhonda.
- 1:18:15She is the- I guess, but hers was, that was all the tradition, so I guess it
- 1:18:19doesn't matter your, your moral code.
- 1:18:22It's just- You just gotta follow the rules.
- 1:18:24Yeah.
- 1:18:26On that note- … what are the club rules to ensure that
- 1:18:29you would survive this movie?
- 1:18:30Definitely keep your jack-o'-lanterns lit.
- 1:18:32Yeah.
- 1:18:33Like, number one, 'cause that was a rule across multiple scenes.
- 1:18:37I mean- I said don't trust the little kids.
- 1:18:42And any time you hear the sound of a child laughing, just get outta Dodge.
- 1:18:46Get there, outta there- Yeah … as fast as possible.
- 1:18:49Yep.
- 1:18:49Don't go in an alley with a guy, whether you, honestly, whether
- 1:18:53you know him or not in this world.
- 1:18:54Mm. Yeah.
- 1:18:55But like that girl who, like the, the first victim of Wilkins, it's
- 1:18:59like, that's not a wise place to be.
- 1:19:03But, like, I wonder if he actually did kill her.
- 1:19:06Like, I wonder if she died.
- 1:19:07I think she was dead.
- 1:19:08You think so?
- 1:19:09It seemed like… She looked dead.
- 1:19:10Yeah, she was dead, 'cause he did the thing where he closed her eyes.
- 1:19:12Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:13So I guess that's the sign.
- 1:19:14So what, he just, like, bit her neck?
- 1:19:16I guess she bled out.
- 1:19:17I mean, 'cause he had that the fake teeth.
- 1:19:19'Cause he'd bitten her all over on like huge- Oh, that's right … vein
- 1:19:23points where he'd bit her wrists and he bit her neck and stuff.
- 1:19:26Ugh.
- 1:19:27I liked how he got, like for one, just that he, a bad character was,
- 1:19:35he got his, what was coming to him.
- 1:19:37Yeah.
- 1:19:37But also it was like that var- werewolves versus vampires thing- … that's
- 1:19:41kinda classic and- Yeah … 'cause a lot of the times the werewolves
- 1:19:44don't come out on, on top of that.
- 1:19:46Most of the time it's the vampires.
- 1:19:47Yeah.
- 1:19:47So has that like been like a thing like before Twilight,
- 1:19:51vampires versus werewolves?
- 1:19:53I think so.
- 1:19:54Well, I guess so 'cause this came out- It came out in '07 Yeah, 'cause
- 1:19:56didn't Underworld come out before?
- 1:19:58That came out before, uh, Twilight.
- 1:20:01I don't know.
- 1:20:04I don't know.
- 1:20:05Anyway.
- 1:20:05But yeah, I mean, I, I'm sure that's been a-
- 1:20:09longstanding kind of thing.
- 1:20:11Yeah.
- 1:20:13Uh.
- 1:20:13So would y'all survive this movie?
- 1:20:16I don't think so, 'cause I don't follow s- superstitions really.
- 1:20:20Oh, okay.
- 1:20:20Like we now, we rarely even have a pumpkin.
- 1:20:25Yeah, I mean, I, I put that I would not survive because if we do have
- 1:20:31decorations out and there's … I'm always gonna have something that's lit up.
- 1:20:36Yeah.
- 1:20:36Whether it is a pumpkin out there that's lit or if it's
- 1:20:40some decoration or whatever.
- 1:20:43I think for me, part of what I do, uh, when we're done handing
- 1:20:47out candy is turn everything off.
- 1:20:49Oh, yeah.
- 1:20:50Yeah.
- 1:20:50So people don't come to the door.
- 1:20:50To, yeah, to signal- We're done … yeah, we're not, we're done.
- 1:20:53We're not handing- Yeah … anything else out.
- 1:20:55And so that's why I put and then I would … They would get me, because I'm not gonna
- 1:20:59leave my stuff on, because I have left stuff on before and we weren't at home.
- 1:21:03Oh.
- 1:21:04And some punk little kid- Oh … kicked over some of our stuff 'cause-
- 1:21:07Aw … 'cause, trick or treat and no one answered, and so he-
- 1:21:10Oh … kicked over our pumpkins.
- 1:21:12That's rude.
- 1:21:13Yeah.
- 1:21:13That was rude.
- 1:21:14So now I just, I, I turn everything off to- We had our very own Charlie.
- 1:21:17Yep, we did.
- 1:21:20I said I would not survive either because I would be just like cleaning
- 1:21:24everything up before the cover of dawn.
- 1:21:28Yeah.
- 1:21:29Well- Mm … our favorite, smash or pass.
- 1:21:34There's a couple of different like- Yeah, a couple ways you could go with this.
- 1:21:37Yeah.
- 1:21:38I said pass on Wilkins in Always.
- 1:21:42Yeah, well I did say he wouldn't be worried about all your little quirks
- 1:21:47He's so insufferable.
- 1:21:50Is he, like, the worst?
- 1:21:51Is he worse than Bear?
- 1:21:54No.
- 1:21:55Mm.
- 1:21:56I don't think so, 'cause Bear was just … Bear was so icky.
- 1:22:01Wilkins is too, but Wilkins is just bad.
- 1:22:05Yeah.
- 1:22:06You know?
- 1:22:06Like, there's not much facade there really.
- 1:22:09He doesn't hide it.
- 1:22:10Yeah.
- 1:22:10Yeah.
- 1:22:11But Bear was like, he wanted to be the victim, and that I cannot.
- 1:22:15Yeah.
- 1:22:15So no, I don't think he's worse than Bear.
- 1:22:17Okay.
- 1:22:20Sam is easy to please, though.
- 1:22:22You just give him candy, keep your pumpkins lit- Yeah, I mean- … and
- 1:22:25you seem like you're pretty safe … again, it's kind of like
- 1:22:27you have the rules for success.
- 1:22:29Yeah.
- 1:22:30You just gotta follow it.
- 1:22:31That's all on you.
- 1:22:32That's not his fault.
- 1:22:32Very true.
- 1:22:33He didn't … Well, I guess he did make the rules, but yeah
- 1:22:38I thought Sam wouldn't care, like, what you looked like in the
- 1:22:42morning after a Halloween rager.
- 1:22:44Very true.
- 1:22:45He would just throw that burlap sack over to you, be like, "Just put this on."
- 1:22:49And does he only come out once a year?
- 1:22:51Does he only come out on Halloween?
- 1:22:53Oh, yeah.
- 1:22:53Because really, then you're all, like, scot-free, 'cause you really only have to
- 1:22:58follow those rules one day of the year.
- 1:22:59Yeah.
- 1:23:00And that should be easy enough.
- 1:23:01Easy.
- 1:23:02Should be.
- 1:23:02And then the rest of the time you just do whatever you want.
- 1:23:04If you know what's at stake.
- 1:23:06I would think so.
- 1:23:07Yeah.
- 1:23:08Maybe this is the most successful one we've had so far.
- 1:23:11The, like, most successful Smash?
- 1:23:13And- 'Cause usually we end up saying, like, not ultimately.
- 1:23:17I think I said ultimately pass.
- 1:23:20What'd I say?
- 1:23:21He could take me out with a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, a Blow Pop.
- 1:23:25I don't remember why I wrote that down.
- 1:23:27True.
- 1:23:28Yeah, and that little- that little sucker he uses.
- 1:23:31The- Oh, yeah … when he's got the candy bar, and he peels it down
- 1:23:35slowly, and there's the box cutter.
- 1:23:38You're such a drama queen, Sam.
- 1:23:42Yes.
- 1:23:42Uh- Was it he put that in there?
- 1:23:44Yeah, I think so.
- 1:23:45Okay.
- 1:23:47Let's see.
- 1:23:48Mark, I would always pick you over Sam.
- 1:23:50Okay.
- 1:23:51Good.
- 1:23:51Appreciate that.
- 1:23:52Good.
- 1:23:53All right.
- 1:23:54So does it join the club?
- 1:23:56Yes.
- 1:23:56Yeah.
- 1:23:57I mean, obvi- obviously- For sure … for me it's a- it's a- Yes … resounding yes.
- 1:24:01Yeah.
- 1:24:02I'm glad you- I'm glad you liked it, 'cause when you sent us that text, and
- 1:24:05you're only 15 minutes in, I was like, I was ver- like, once that happened,
- 1:24:10I- it was kinda like it was- I was hooked, but for the wrong reasons.
- 1:24:14Yeah.
- 1:24:15Like, what else could happen?
- 1:24:17Is this man gonna get caught?
- 1:24:19Where are these kids' parents?
- 1:24:21Yeah, lot of questions.
- 1:24:23Yeah.
- 1:24:24Yeah.
- 1:24:24I really did enjoy it.
- 1:24:25It was unhinged.
- 1:24:26It was like, it's, like, the perfect
- 1:24:28it's like Halloweentown but rated R version.
- 1:24:33Yeah.
- 1:24:34It's its own- And kind of- … form of whimsy.
- 1:24:36It is.
- 1:24:37It's- it pokes fun at … It doesn't take itself really seriously, and I like that.
- 1:24:41Yeah.
- 1:24:42But what's crazy about it, though, is that this was … So in 2007, I think it's
- 1:24:48actually, so it released in 2007, but only in a very limited, handful of theaters,
- 1:24:55and it may have been just festivals.
- 1:24:57Yeah.
- 1:24:57And I think it was in 2009 it went straight to DVD.
- 1:25:01Oh.
- 1:25:02And so this was a straight to DVD release- And over the years, it has gained so
- 1:25:08much popularity- Okay … that Sam is now, like, one of the icons of horror.
- 1:25:14Yeah.
- 1:25:15You go into a Spirit Halloween every year, you're gonna see a
- 1:25:18section for Michael Myers- Yep
- 1:25:20Freddy, Jason, uh, Ghostface, and you're gonna see one for Sam.
- 1:25:25And they make new merchandise all the time every year- Yeah … for Sam and this
- 1:25:30movie, and there's only been one of them.
- 1:25:34Whereas all those other ones, they've had multiple movies- Yeah
- 1:25:36… theatrical releases, all that stuff.
- 1:25:38So insanely impressive that it's just straight to DVD, and
- 1:25:42it climbed to what it is today.
- 1:25:45Yeah.
- 1:25:45Yeah.
- 1:25:46Was this… Did this used to be on Netflix?
- 1:25:48I feel like that's, like, where I saw the trailer f- or, like,
- 1:25:51might've been- It might've been.
- 1:25:51It is very possible.
- 1:25:52Yeah.
- 1:25:53It bounces around.
- 1:25:53Like, you'll see it pop up on streaming services.
- 1:25:56I think I saw it on one of them just the other day.
- 1:25:59Maybe on HBO, I'm not sure.
- 1:26:00Mm. But- Yeah.
- 1:26:02I thought it was really good.
- 1:26:03It's a classic little movie.
- 1:26:04Yeah, I agree.
- 1:26:06Okay, so next couple of episodes, we had talked about, So Backrooms has also, also
- 1:26:12came out this year, and it is on HBO Max.
- 1:26:16And so we had talked about doing that one, so I think we're gonna do Backrooms next.
- 1:26:21And then, so when this, when that one comes out, we'll be into November.
- 1:26:26And so for our second November episode, we would want to do Thanksgiving.
- 1:26:30I'm so excited about that one.
- 1:26:32And I think- So excited.
- 1:26:34I love that movie.
- 1:26:34Um, okay, I can't wait, 'cause I've never seen it.
- 1:26:37Oh, you haven't?
- 1:26:38It's just… I don't know.
- 1:26:39It's, it's got a campiness to it- Okay … that's on purpose.
- 1:26:42It's kind of in the same vein of Trick or Treat, where it's
- 1:26:46yeah, it's a scary movie.
- 1:26:47It's meant to be a… there are some, some things in it that you're
- 1:26:52like, "Oh, I recognize that's just how a scary movie goes." Yeah.
- 1:26:55But it pokes fun at itself in some ways in it, the slasher genre, perfect.
- 1:27:00Okay.
- 1:27:01I like it a lot.
- 1:27:02I'm excited.
- 1:27:02I think we've got some good ones coming up.
- 1:27:04So- Yeah … if you're still here, we're, we're glad that you've hung
- 1:27:07in there with all of the, all the things that we've talked about today.
- 1:27:10And then make sure you watch Backrooms and Thanksgiving in preparation for our
- 1:27:15next episodes, and we'll see you later.
- 1:27:17Bye.
- 1:27:18Bye.
- 1:27:19Inviting strangers to join the club is probably a terrible idea, which
- 1:27:26means we're definitely doing it.
- 1:27:30Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, @scarierthingsclub.
- 1:27:37Until next time, don't read anything in Latin.
