- 1:47Speaker 2: What's going on? This is the sixth podcast I've recorded
- 1:51Speaker 2: this week. Fortunately, you know I lead a rich, full
- 1:56Speaker 2: life that's able to sustain that amount of talking. I
- 1:59Speaker 2: just have things going on on all the time. So
- 2:02Speaker 2: just kick back, crack open a cold one. Don't do that.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Why would I even sugget I'm kidding. That's not this audience.
- 2:12Speaker 2: What needs to be talked about. I watched The Little
- 2:13Speaker 2: House on the Prairie as usual last night. The town
- 2:17Speaker 2: drunk was drying out and he saw a bat, live bat,
- 2:20Speaker 2: which was frightening. And that takes us brings us to today.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And I need to remind you that we're on Patreon
- 2:27Speaker 2: Patreon dot com slash. I said, no gifts, no excuses
- 2:32Speaker 2: not to be on it at this point. That's how
- 2:33Speaker 2: you support the podcast, and we have a wonderful time there.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I feel like I'm being taken advantage of it this
- 2:38Speaker 2: point to be honest, it's a great deal. Is there
- 2:42Speaker 2: anything else I need to say in that category? I
- 2:44Speaker 2: don't think so. Live show is coming up August twenty second.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I don't know what today is for you, but hopefully
- 2:53Speaker 2: it's before that. So you can go to Dynasty typewriter
- 2:55Speaker 2: dot com. That's all you have to do, and then
- 2:58Speaker 2: you buy a ticket or you got a lot live
- 3:00Speaker 2: stream either or maybe both. You could live stream from
- 3:03Speaker 2: the show kind of loudly on your phone. You can
- 3:07Speaker 2: do whatever you want in this world. It's up to you.
- 3:10Speaker 2: You get to create your own reality. And if that's
- 3:12Speaker 2: live streaming the show from the show, you'll probably be
- 3:16Speaker 2: escorted out of the theater. I don't know who cares.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Let's get into the show. I everybody atdoors. Today's guest,
- 3:22Speaker 2: it's Demi add Juebay. Welcome to I said no gifts.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Thank you so much for having me.
- 3:26Speaker 3: How are you?
- 3:27Speaker 4: Is there a new little house on the prairie or
- 3:29Speaker 4: is this a thing? Okay, I'm just curious. I had
- 3:31Speaker 4: a lot of questions through that intro and I was like, interrupt,
- 3:33Speaker 4: but I would love to.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Know there is a new one coming up. By mistake,
- 3:38Speaker 2: we just started rewatching the old one. My boyfriend and
- 3:41Speaker 2: I had never seen mist well, not like I slipped
- 3:46Speaker 2: on a banana fiel. No, I wasn't aware that the
- 3:50Speaker 2: new one was coming up, that they were rebooting the show,
- 3:53Speaker 2: and we were out of things to watch because there's
- 3:56Speaker 2: nothing left to watch on television.
- 3:59Speaker 3: They've run out.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It's clean. But I thought, let's try watching this, and
- 4:03Speaker 2: he had watched the entire thing, and so he was
- 4:05Speaker 2: excited to watch it again. And now we're I mean,
- 4:08Speaker 2: we've been watching for months and we're not done with
- 4:10Speaker 2: season one.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Oh my god, how well we're slow TV watchers.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I think last night we watched episode twenty three of
- 4:16Speaker 2: season one.
- 4:17Speaker 3: There are a lot of episodes in.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Beautiful What TV used to be more than twenty three.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It's eight.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Now we've gotten to eight. Yeah, ten is a rare thing.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Ten is like a oh they had money and like
- 4:29Speaker 4: several a lists startingtechs.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they had everything going for them. Thirteen it's
- 4:34Speaker 2: unheard of. Yeah, eight and then six you think, well,
- 4:37Speaker 2: they didn't really have an idea.
- 4:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Six is they didn't believe in it, but someone's son
- 4:41Speaker 4: wanted to do it.
- 4:42Speaker 2: They needed to do something to cover six hours of tvage. Yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 2: but Little House. I think it went for like ten seasons.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It's probably like three hundred episodes.
- 4:52Speaker 5: So wild.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I couldn't tell you a single thing about that show,
- 4:56Speaker 4: even though I know it's a phenomenon. But I'm like,
- 4:58Speaker 4: I do love that. That's how TV used to be.
- 5:00Speaker 4: It's like there's an audience. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 2: That was probably one of nine shows on TV at
- 5:05Speaker 2: the time. Yeah, you grew up in Texas, so and
- 5:07Speaker 2: I grew up in Utah and growing up in Utah
- 5:09Speaker 2: I and the show was before my time anyway, But
- 5:12Speaker 2: like reruns, I was never interested in. I was like, well,
- 5:14Speaker 2: that just feels like basically what I'm living in deserty landscape.
- 5:20Speaker 3: So I avoided it. But now it's so enjoyable.
- 5:23Speaker 5: Does it feel I don't. I don't. The show isn't
- 5:25Speaker 5: set and you tie it.
- 5:26Speaker 2: No, it's set in Minnesota but shot in Santa Clarita, California.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Of course, Now when you watch it, do you feel
- 5:36Speaker 4: like it reminds you of like the area you grew
- 5:38Speaker 4: up in.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yeah, a little bit, but then it's it's kind of
- 5:41Speaker 2: almost a weird realm of where do where are they?
- 5:44Speaker 2: Because they're in the desert, but it's supposed to be
- 5:46Speaker 2: Minnesota often in winter, but it's like the wind is blowing,
- 5:52Speaker 2: it looks very hot. But the things you get out
- 5:55Speaker 2: of the show are the actors actually driving the wagon,
- 5:59Speaker 2: actors on horses, the same actor that you see on
- 6:03Speaker 2: within the scenes, and then a lot of you know, raccoons, rats, bats, Yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 2: all sorts of wild marm and none of its special effects.
- 6:10Speaker 2: It's just creatures that they've brought in, beautiful chickens roaming.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Before they were like, oh, we probably can't do this
- 6:16Speaker 4: because we can't control these animals.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like the new one is going to
- 6:21Speaker 2: drop the ball in a lot of ways.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Certainly they're going to do like drone spins.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I get a drone intro to the show. I'm done.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And they're not going to put a child on a horse. No,
- 6:33Speaker 2: they're not even put an adult on a horse.
- 6:35Speaker 4: They'll shoot it from away where you're like, okay, that's
- 6:37Speaker 4: just like they're being pushed in a parking lot, back
- 6:39Speaker 4: and forth, and then they'll go to a wide and
- 6:41Speaker 4: it'll be clearly like an adult small woman from behind,
- 6:45Speaker 4: like doing the bugy.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Motion, which has its merits.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I suppose and they're all but they are shooting in Canada,
- 6:52Speaker 2: so I which everything now is done as well, But
- 6:55Speaker 2: this actually makes sense because that will look like Minnesota. Okay, yeah,
- 6:59Speaker 2: you know, so maybe it'll get a few things right.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I probably won't watch it. I've got the rest of
- 7:05Speaker 2: the show to watch.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Cut to ten years from now, you're like, well, we
- 7:07Speaker 4: finished the old one season, we start the new one.
- 7:10Speaker 4: It's on season two.
- 7:13Speaker 2: That's not a bad idea. Within ten years, maybe this
- 7:15Speaker 2: new one will have aged so much that it.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Will feel like a throwback.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And by then they'll be making one episode a season
- 7:21Speaker 2: of each TV show and we'll be like, wow, remember
- 7:23Speaker 2: when they used to make eight?
- 7:25Speaker 4: Yeah, oh what happened? Now Ryan Murphy gets to make two.
- 7:30Speaker 4: I can't wait to be like, oh remember Netflix.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Oh I actually can't wait to say that.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Right, you were just in Australia, which I was talking about.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Yeah, were you all over the country? What was going on?
- 7:43Speaker 5: I was?
- 7:43Speaker 4: I feel like I was localized to like just I
- 7:46Speaker 4: was in three cities in Australia, and then I went
- 7:48Speaker 4: to New Zealand. I went to Sydney, Adelaide over to
- 7:51Speaker 4: Auckland and then to Melbourne. Okay, so not too much
- 7:54Speaker 4: of Australia. I felt bad because it's like, there's the
- 7:57Speaker 4: entire East Coast and like up on the West Coast
- 8:00Speaker 4: that I really wanted to visit.
- 8:01Speaker 5: But I also was like, I'm here for.
- 8:02Speaker 3: A month, right, and it's a massive country.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Huge country.
- 8:07Speaker 4: I also didn't like people were like, oh, any spiders
- 8:10Speaker 4: and snakes. It's like no, I was in the city everywhere,
- 8:13Speaker 4: so I didn't see any of that, not even like
- 8:15Speaker 4: a small spider.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Did you get to see a kangaroo at any point?
- 8:18Speaker 4: I saw kangaroo in New Zealand because I was in
- 8:20Speaker 4: New Zealand and I was like, well, I want to
- 8:22Speaker 4: go to the zoo. I want to see some wildlife.
- 8:24Speaker 4: But yeah, I saw kangaroo, I saw some EMUs. I
- 8:27Speaker 4: feel like I got the full tour of Australian wildlife
- 8:30Speaker 4: in New Zealand.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Okay, how was your experience of Australia in general. I've
- 8:35Speaker 2: never been there. I feel like it.
- 8:37Speaker 3: To me, I'm like, oh, it's California, the country.
- 8:39Speaker 5: It kind of is.
- 8:40Speaker 4: That makes sense. Yeah, i'd never been either, and I
- 8:43Speaker 4: really loved it. I'd spend a lot of time in
- 8:44Speaker 4: New Zealand because I used to date a woman who
- 8:46Speaker 4: lived down there, but I had never been to Australia proper.
- 8:49Speaker 5: And I again, I.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Was in the city, and I feel like I was
- 8:52Speaker 4: so engrossed in just doing the show that I kind
- 8:55Speaker 4: of didn't explore too much.
- 8:57Speaker 5: But I really really liked it.
- 8:59Speaker 4: It is like if California was a city that was
- 9:01Speaker 4: more walkable, I had better ways to get around without
- 9:04Speaker 4: a car, right, But I guess Los Angeles more than
- 9:08Speaker 4: California as a whole. But I really enjoyed it. I
- 9:10Speaker 4: feel like everyone I met was so lovely and just Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 4: I kept describing it as like I felt like I
- 9:16Speaker 4: was going to space. But it's not that the place
- 9:19Speaker 4: is very very different. It's just like every little thing
- 9:21Speaker 4: is like two steps away from what I'm used to
- 9:24Speaker 4: it being right, usually in the way that it's more
- 9:27Speaker 4: convenient or more like, oh that makes more sense when
- 9:29Speaker 4: you'd be inventing this thing, but right, so.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It's just like two inches into another reality. Yes, that
- 9:35Speaker 2: sounds nice.
- 9:36Speaker 5: It was very nice. I miss it. I want to
- 9:38Speaker 5: go back.
- 9:38Speaker 2: How are you getting from city to city just flying?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Flying short flights?
- 9:42Speaker 5: Though?
- 9:43Speaker 2: Okay, did you have the food. I imagine it is good.
- 9:45Speaker 2: That's the other thing where I feel like everything has
- 9:48Speaker 2: so much sunshine. This is an idiot's view of a country.
- 9:51Speaker 4: I mean, I'm an idiot who went there, and I
- 9:53Speaker 4: think my videos views the same.
- 9:55Speaker 5: I did like the food.
- 9:57Speaker 4: I couldn't put a handle on what Australian food was, right.
- 10:00Speaker 4: But I think it's like when you go to the
- 10:02Speaker 4: UK and it's just like, well, what's the great food here?
- 10:03Speaker 4: It's like Indian food and it's like other culture's food.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Right of colonization. This is what we brought back, and
- 10:08Speaker 4: I'm like, you know what, that's fine, that's all good.
- 10:10Speaker 2: I feel like the only food I can really associate
- 10:13Speaker 2: with Australia is breakfast food. Yeah, because whenever I go
- 10:17Speaker 2: to a country, like when I was in Italy or whatever,
- 10:20Speaker 2: the best breakfast I would ever eat was at an
- 10:22Speaker 2: Australian right place was it would it be like toast
- 10:25Speaker 2: and like veggie mite or marmite, or it'd be like
- 10:28Speaker 2: it just very like generic idea of brunch in a
- 10:31Speaker 2: good way, you know, avocado and good bread and eggs
- 10:35Speaker 2: and bacon.
- 10:35Speaker 4: I do feel yeah, they got like good, Like you said,
- 10:38Speaker 4: bread and eggs, and like, I wonder what it is
- 10:40Speaker 4: about breakfast because I'm like, I feel like the countries
- 10:42Speaker 4: I associate with like strong good breakfasts are either like
- 10:47Speaker 4: like European places like the UK, or like Whales or
- 10:51Speaker 4: like Australia.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Very like hearty. Yeah, I wonder is it like countries
- 10:57Speaker 2: where they have a lot of miners, maybe because they
- 11:00Speaker 2: got they gotta fill up in the morning.
- 11:02Speaker 5: Yeah, you gotta sos them up.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's yeah, And there are other countries. Often when
- 11:08Speaker 2: you're traveling you find out most people don't care about breakfast.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Yes, no, I I felt, which is comforting to me
- 11:13Speaker 4: as someone who here does not really eat breakfast.
- 11:16Speaker 3: You're kidding. I hate to hear this. You hate to
- 11:18Speaker 3: hit your big breakfast head.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I don't understand how people don't do it.
- 11:21Speaker 4: I don't do it because I wake up too late,
- 11:23Speaker 4: and also because I feel like growing up, I was
- 11:25Speaker 4: just like all right, I'll just go off and then
- 11:26Speaker 4: it's like at a certain point you're like really hungry,
- 11:28Speaker 4: and then it's lunchtime, and much is so much more
- 11:30Speaker 4: satisfying because it's like, whoa, I've been waiting for this, right,
- 11:33Speaker 4: But I also it's largely that I wake.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Up too late, right, so do like you wake up
- 11:37Speaker 2: and you have a coffee and leave.
- 11:39Speaker 4: I don't even have a coffee most of the time
- 11:40Speaker 4: with you several things, but it's mostly the time it's
- 11:44Speaker 4: I I didn't until very recently start drinking coffee. And
- 11:46Speaker 4: even then it's not like a thing. It's like a
- 11:48Speaker 4: this will be a fun treat. And occasionally it's just
- 11:50Speaker 4: like a chai latte, which as no capture.
- 11:53Speaker 5: But yeah, no, I don't. I don't know.
- 11:54Speaker 4: My day just A lot of the problem is also
- 11:57Speaker 4: like without a job, my day starts when it's like, well,
- 12:00Speaker 4: what do I have to do?
- 12:01Speaker 2: Right?
- 12:02Speaker 4: So I wake up and be like like for this
- 12:04Speaker 4: it was like, okay, well the things at noon, So
- 12:06Speaker 4: I'm going to wake up at eleven and then eventually
- 12:08Speaker 4: I'll be there. But I, yeah, I've never really drink
- 12:12Speaker 4: coffee routinely or had breakfast, and I do wonder if
- 12:16Speaker 4: my life would be so much better if I did.
- 12:18Speaker 4: It's hard to say. It might be worse, way worse.
- 12:20Speaker 4: That's so true, and I'm going to live in that reality.
- 12:23Speaker 4: So I feel good about my own.
- 12:24Speaker 2: So have you had lunch today? It's kind of lunch.
- 12:26Speaker 4: I have not have I had anything to I had
- 12:29Speaker 4: a handful of skittles before I came here because I
- 12:32Speaker 4: left them on my counter and then was walking around.
- 12:35Speaker 5: I was like, oh, okay, yeah, so I'm good.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Like I feel like we should bring in some sort
- 12:41Speaker 2: of dairy product.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Now, because then I'm going to really earn dinner another
- 12:45Speaker 4: handful of skittles.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Do you do?
- 12:48Speaker 3: You have big dinners?
- 12:49Speaker 2: Do you like? Because dinner for me is the grand
- 12:52Speaker 2: prize and it needs to be special.
- 12:54Speaker 5: I don't, but I do.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I love cooking and I love like being in the kitchen,
- 12:58Speaker 4: So I feel like there are times where it's like
- 13:00Speaker 4: I will prepare for the day by going like, Okay,
- 13:03Speaker 4: what are we having for dinner today?
- 13:04Speaker 5: That's what I'm going to be like building towards.
- 13:07Speaker 4: And it's more exciting when it's like I live with
- 13:08Speaker 4: someone or I'm dating someone, because it's like, great, I'll
- 13:10Speaker 4: cook for both of us. When it's just me, I'm
- 13:12Speaker 4: like whatever, I'll throw some shit in the pan.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Right, like a thing that you really put care into.
- 13:16Speaker 2: It's like, well, this is just going into the void. Yeah,
- 13:19Speaker 2: someone should be able to witness it.
- 13:20Speaker 5: I'm not impressed who cares.
- 13:21Speaker 4: I don't want to eat anything, but if it's someone else,
- 13:25Speaker 4: it's like vo la la a steak.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Of course, yeah, of course.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Going back to your trip just momentarily, because the thing
- 13:33Speaker 2: that's keeping me from that part of the world is
- 13:36Speaker 2: the air travel.
- 13:37Speaker 3: How long is that flight it is? I want to say,
- 13:40Speaker 3: sixteen hours. Walk me through how you survive that sort
- 13:45Speaker 3: of thing.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I'm very good at sleeping on airplanes, oh yeah, which
- 13:49Speaker 4: I've heard is a sign that I have very bad
- 13:51Speaker 4: sleep patterns in real life, which.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Is oh yeah, sounds like it was just the eleven
- 13:55Speaker 2: o'clock waking up.
- 13:56Speaker 5: Mm hmm, that'll do it.
- 13:57Speaker 4: I also I have narcolepsy, so I feel like there's
- 13:59Speaker 4: also a little bit of like I can fall.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Asleep, right, It could just happen at any point.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't even have to be like they'll be
- 14:04Speaker 4: like it's one hour flat. I'm like, I'm sleeping on
- 14:06Speaker 4: that plane. Don't worry.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Oh I'm so jealous of that.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Don't be. My neck is not happy about it.
- 14:11Speaker 4: It's such a It's the thing is to sleep on
- 14:12Speaker 4: any plane, even if you're like people be like you
- 14:14Speaker 4: just got to fly first class.
- 14:15Speaker 5: I'm like first of all, shut up.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not a solution. You do not talk about
- 14:20Speaker 2: that like that's an easy thing to do.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:22Speaker 4: But even it's like there have been times where I'm like, oh,
- 14:24Speaker 4: I'm having this long flat, I'm gonna sploil, I'm gonna
- 14:26Speaker 4: go first class, and I'm like, it's nice to lie
- 14:27Speaker 4: down flat. You are still contained to this small box, right,
- 14:30Speaker 4: that's not really a bed, No, it's really not. And
- 14:33Speaker 4: like if you're like, oh, I want to bend my knees,
- 14:35Speaker 4: it's like, okay, well you're bending your knees into the
- 14:37Speaker 4: side of a very hard, like plastic container. But I
- 14:41Speaker 4: I will just sort of like roll up a blanket
- 14:43Speaker 4: and put it against the window and complain and like
- 14:45Speaker 4: sort of shift every hour, and then it's like that's
- 14:48Speaker 4: half of the flight you've covered because I can't sleep
- 14:50Speaker 4: for too long, right, And then what I do is
- 14:52Speaker 4: I go through Actually a lot of times it's the
- 14:54Speaker 4: other way around. Sometimes on a flight, I will just
- 14:56Speaker 4: go through like the the in flight thing and be like,
- 14:58Speaker 4: all right, here's every movie that I'm interested in watching,
- 15:01Speaker 4: and then I'll fall asleep. And sometimes it's like I
- 15:03Speaker 4: don't get to watch those movies and sometimes it's like,
- 15:05Speaker 4: all right, we'll still got eight hours, let's see what
- 15:07Speaker 4: we got, and it's just like going through and be
- 15:09Speaker 4: like all right, sure, twister, Okay, this now Charlie Wilson's War, why.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Not that's a real airplane?
- 15:16Speaker 4: Yeah, that is based on the real movie that I
- 15:20Speaker 4: watched on my flight to Australia.
- 15:22Speaker 3: That film was made to watch on an airplane.
- 15:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I think Aaron Sorkin's mad if he learns that you
- 15:26Speaker 4: watched it in theaters or on DVD.
- 15:28Speaker 3: He campaign for that not to be in movie.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Yeah. He wanted us straight to plane movie. Yeah, somebody
- 15:33Speaker 2: should have. Somebody's got to do that at some point.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Straight to plane movielane mo.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 4: American Airlines got to form like a studio where it's like, well,
- 15:40Speaker 4: fund any movie that's under a million dollars, knowing that
- 15:43Speaker 4: it won't make any money.
- 15:44Speaker 5: It's just gonna go straight to plane.
- 15:45Speaker 2: And it needs to be highly emotionally manipulative. Yeah wow, Charlie.
- 15:49Speaker 5: And it cannot have a plane crashing for many reasons.
- 15:52Speaker 2: But oh lord, yeah I watched We went to Japan
- 15:56Speaker 2: and in April and like three days before we watched
- 15:58Speaker 2: the first episode of the reheard so the new rehearsal,
- 16:01Speaker 2: which is all about planes crashing.
- 16:03Speaker 3: It's it was a very difficult time for me.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Imagine, are you not good at plane travel?
- 16:08Speaker 2: I've gotten so bad at it. Oh God, I get
- 16:10Speaker 2: worse and worse with each flight. It feels like eventually
- 16:13Speaker 2: I'm not I'm gonna not be able to get on
- 16:14Speaker 2: a plane.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I don't know what's wrong with Did something trigger it
- 16:17Speaker 3: or is it just time?
- 16:18Speaker 2: And I guess just time? And yeah, I think the
- 16:21Speaker 2: news recently, but within the last two years, it feels
- 16:24Speaker 2: like every time turbulence begins, I just absolutely freak out.
- 16:28Speaker 4: I honestly, I feel like I used to be like
- 16:30Speaker 4: I'd be like field turbulence and be like none I
- 16:33Speaker 4: can do bad it and just be like I would
- 16:34Speaker 4: accept death almost Ye, what can I do? And I
- 16:38Speaker 4: was flying to I think it was from Des Moines, Iowa.
- 16:42Speaker 4: And we had like a layover in Las Vegas. And
- 16:44Speaker 4: the flight from Vegas to Burbank is like fifty minutes,
- 16:47Speaker 4: shouldn't be too bad. There was turbulence on that plane
- 16:50Speaker 4: that was so bad. I was truly just like, why
- 16:53Speaker 4: is no one else everyone else seems fucking calm?
- 16:55Speaker 5: What's going on? Are we we must be dead already.
- 16:57Speaker 4: I just like, I was like, I felt bad that
- 16:59Speaker 4: no one else reacting, And I was texting because my
- 17:01Speaker 4: ex has a big fear of flying, and I was
- 17:04Speaker 4: texting just like, Okay, I feel like I feel what
- 17:06Speaker 4: you're feeling. I don't understand what's going on. I understand
- 17:08Speaker 4: what's going on, and I think the worst part is
- 17:10Speaker 4: no one else was reacting. So I was just like,
- 17:12Speaker 4: I'm crazy, what's going And that was the first time
- 17:14Speaker 4: and I was like, do I have a fear of flying?
- 17:16Speaker 5: What's going on?
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah? I will often look around and be like, Okay,
- 17:20Speaker 2: if no one else is panicking, maybe it's fine, or
- 17:24Speaker 2: maybe I'm right right, there's no idea. Yeah, it's a terrible,
- 17:28Speaker 2: terrible feeling. But yeah, I feel like there's nothing I
- 17:31Speaker 2: could do to solve that other than certain people say
- 17:33Speaker 2: take a xanax. But then I think, what if, for
- 17:35Speaker 2: whatever reason, it reacts poorly in my system and then
- 17:38Speaker 2: I'm really freaking.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Out right, And what if it's like, oh, something's going
- 17:41Speaker 4: wrong and I'm out of control of my body?
- 17:44Speaker 2: Right, So then well then I guess it's everybody else's problem. Yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 2: get me deal with Yeah, I get to go viral.
- 17:51Speaker 2: All kinds of things are happening. That's really what it's
- 17:53Speaker 2: all about. Yeah, it could be good for you having
- 17:55Speaker 2: a plane meltdown, go viral.
- 17:56Speaker 4: A friend of mine also has a newly a new
- 18:01Speaker 4: found fear of flying, and it didn't help that he
- 18:03Speaker 4: went on a flight once. I think it was actually
- 18:06Speaker 4: it was a flight that happened. It was like we
- 18:09Speaker 4: were in San Francisco for Sketch Fest when Kobe Bryant
- 18:12Speaker 4: died a helicopter crash, and I think on the flight
- 18:15Speaker 4: back from that, he experienced turbulence and someone else on
- 18:18Speaker 4: the plane said this isn't normal and freaked out, and
- 18:20Speaker 4: I think that made him just go like okay, I yeah,
- 18:23Speaker 4: I can't do this anymore. Awful fi, yeah, really bad.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I was in the Target parking lot when I found
- 18:31Speaker 2: out about Coe.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yes, it's it's.
- 18:34Speaker 4: It was weird because I remember someone saying it, and
- 18:36Speaker 4: that's being like, what a weird joke, and then seeing
- 18:38Speaker 4: everyone just be like get on their phones and be like.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Oh shit, oh shit.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 4: It's so strange to like have a strong memory of
- 18:45Speaker 4: where you are when someone famous dies, right, Like I
- 18:48Speaker 4: remember Michael Jackson died and I was at home and
- 18:50Speaker 4: I was like, this seems wrong.
- 18:52Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 18:53Speaker 4: And I went over the like the like sort of
- 18:55Speaker 4: upper balcony railing at my parents' house and just went
- 18:58Speaker 4: mom and she's like, yeah, Michael Jackson died, and she
- 19:01Speaker 4: was like, oh no, and like that's just I just
- 19:05Speaker 4: remember being like, that's not too strong of a reaction,
- 19:07Speaker 4: and then I just remember the rest of the day
- 19:09Speaker 4: was me just looking at news and reactions to being
- 19:11Speaker 4: like this is wild, this is this is really insane.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 2: That I was working at overstock dot com. Yeah, I
- 19:18Speaker 2: remember I was copywriting and I find out Michael Jackson
- 19:21Speaker 2: died and it was a weird feeling because he was
- 19:23Speaker 2: such a complicated person. It was like I don't know
- 19:26Speaker 2: what to think about this. Yeah, also young death ish
- 19:29Speaker 2: young ish, Yeah, but we were all doing something and
- 19:32Speaker 2: just kind of I don't know what the react the
- 19:36Speaker 2: appropriate reaction was at that time.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe other than confusion.
- 19:41Speaker 4: For me, it was just sort of like, what do
- 19:42Speaker 4: you mean how Like I feel like whenever someone dies
- 19:45Speaker 4: in an age that isn't like natural death of ninety,
- 19:48Speaker 4: I'm just like, must have been some weird freak accident.
- 19:50Speaker 4: It must have been like they they got hit by
- 19:53Speaker 4: a car, like it saw yeah, d I'm doing a pivot.
- 19:58Speaker 4: I'm gonna do carpentry, and and mediate was like, oh,
- 20:00Speaker 4: never mind, I shouldn't have done that.
- 20:02Speaker 2: He was framing a new room in his house. Or
- 20:06Speaker 2: I remember where I was when Princess Die died. We
- 20:10Speaker 2: were all the family was in my dad's truck on
- 20:12Speaker 2: our way to what is now Jamba Juice, but at
- 20:15Speaker 2: the time it was called Zuka Juice, Zuka Juice in Utah.
- 20:20Speaker 2: But then I got bought out by Jamba Juice.
- 20:22Speaker 5: I believe. Oh so it was a separate, okay.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Separate thing.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I think Zuka Juice must have been like whoever, I'm
- 20:28Speaker 2: sure whoever opened that visited a Jamba juice elsewhere and
- 20:31Speaker 2: then came back and was like, we got to do
- 20:34Speaker 2: let's do a Zuka juice. We were on our way
- 20:36Speaker 2: to Zuka Juice to get a smoothie. Princess Die is dead,
- 20:40Speaker 2: that's uh. And I think that's the only other celebrity
- 20:42Speaker 2: I can remember dying. What other big celebrities have passed?
- 20:46Speaker 2: I remember where I was when day This is such
- 20:48Speaker 2: a pleasant topic for everyone. Yeah, I was in Kettle
- 20:50Speaker 2: Glazed Donuts when I found out David Bowie had died
- 20:53Speaker 2: six am.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Six am. Yeah, that's well, you seem like an early riser.
- 20:58Speaker 2: No, but at the time I was working at Jimmy Kimmel.
- 21:00Speaker 2: We had we started working at seven am. Yeah, so
- 21:02Speaker 2: I would go there and get as much coffee as possible.
- 21:05Speaker 4: And then was that a thing where you're like, shit,
- 21:07Speaker 4: how do we cover this on Kimmel now?
- 21:09Speaker 2: No, I think that I can't remember how it was
- 21:11Speaker 2: covered that day. That's a great question. I don't I
- 21:14Speaker 2: assume there was at some point someone said something tasteful,
- 21:17Speaker 2: or we just didn't cover it at all, or maybe
- 21:20Speaker 2: we were pre taping or something.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I don't know. Hard to say, I remember I was.
- 21:24Speaker 4: I don't remember where I was when I found out
- 21:27Speaker 4: and he died, but I do remember that the previous night,
- 21:28Speaker 4: we were playing a game and my friend drew the
- 21:31Speaker 4: name David Bowie and was like, sorry, I don't know
- 21:33Speaker 4: who this guy is.
- 21:33Speaker 5: We were all like, what what are you talking to?
- 21:36Speaker 2: He killed David Bowie?
- 21:37Speaker 4: Yeah, he killed David Bowie. He was like, I'm so
- 21:39Speaker 4: annoyed of them. I'll talk about this guy. I'm going
- 21:41Speaker 4: to kill him. He's dead now.
- 21:44Speaker 5: Wow.
- 21:45Speaker 4: David Bowie really felt like psychic damage to wake up
- 21:48Speaker 4: and be like, what the fuck?
- 21:49Speaker 5: How did he? What are you kidding? We were just
- 21:51Speaker 5: talking about him.
- 21:51Speaker 2: What was the game you were playing?
- 21:54Speaker 5: Do you know Fishbowl? Some people call it Celebrity?
- 21:57Speaker 3: Oh? Of course our friend Ellen.
- 21:59Speaker 5: Oh oh yes, our friend Ellen, the inventor of.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Games, the first person to have fun. Yeah, as far
- 22:06Speaker 2: as I know, she taught me it was okay to
- 22:08Speaker 2: have fun and to dance. She unlocked dance for me. Yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 2: It is funny to think that there might be someone
- 22:15Speaker 2: for whom that is true. That's a lot of people,
- 22:18Speaker 2: and I think that's actually very sweet. Outside of the
- 22:21Speaker 2: Ellen of it all, I'm just like, I do think
- 22:22Speaker 2: it's sweet. It's just like this lady who dances on
- 22:24Speaker 2: TV and she seems like she's having so much fun.
- 22:25Speaker 5: I'm gonna do it.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Yes, I think that person's heart was probably broken later.
- 22:29Speaker 2: But Ellen's trying to make a comeback. I just learned yesterday.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Is she she's in England selling our house, sure, and
- 22:35Speaker 2: wants to get back to daytime.
- 22:36Speaker 4: I see she's staging a comeback. In that case, I
- 22:39Speaker 4: take back everything I've ever said. Ellen, I'd love to
- 22:40Speaker 4: work for you. I love to work for you. I
- 22:42Speaker 4: was joking every time I've said it online, I've been joking.
- 22:46Speaker 2: We're all kidding out.
- 22:48Speaker 5: We're all kidding you love jokes.
- 22:49Speaker 3: We have so many game ideas.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah, reach out, Ellen, degenerous, reach out. This be the
- 22:56Speaker 2: start of your comeback.
- 22:57Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, come on the show.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I will read the list of accusations.
- 23:02Speaker 5: And you can deny each one piece by piece.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Did you see any of her recent special?
- 23:08Speaker 4: I saw clips of it because my my friend Kevin T.
- 23:11Speaker 5: Porters is the sort of impetus for.
- 23:14Speaker 2: One of the craziest things that's ever happened.
- 23:16Speaker 5: Unbelievable.
- 23:16Speaker 4: For Kevin to be the Hannibal Buris of Ellen's downfall
- 23:21Speaker 4: is psychotic. And I saw that it is essentially her
- 23:25Speaker 4: just going like they came for me, and just like
- 23:27Speaker 4: the opening of it being like the tweet being blurred
- 23:30Speaker 4: and like.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Oh his tweet, that's right, I totally forget his is
- 23:33Speaker 2: in the special.
- 23:34Speaker 4: Being censored, the charity stuff being just like cut out
- 23:37Speaker 4: and be like that's not that's not part of it.
- 23:39Speaker 4: But and then also her getting series of applause breaks
- 23:42Speaker 4: from people just being like yes, yes, you're the victim. Yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 4: which I think is so funny. But I didn't see
- 23:49Speaker 4: any of the jokes.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I probably saw one or two of
- 23:51Speaker 3: the jokes.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I watched just the beginning, and it's like, well, like,
- 23:54Speaker 2: why would I watch any more of this?
- 23:57Speaker 3: But we wish the best.
- 23:58Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, Ellen, we miss you.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Get back on your feet. Ellen, dust yourself.
- 24:02Speaker 5: Don't let the haters take you down, or your coworkers.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Or anyone else that you want to scream at.
- 24:09Speaker 5: Yeah, don't let anyone tell you that's wrong.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Well, speaking of inappropriate behavior, I was excited to have
- 24:18Speaker 2: you here on the podcast today. I thought, Demy will
- 24:21Speaker 2: come by, we'll have a nice time, we'll move on
- 24:24Speaker 2: with our days. The podcast is called I said no gifts,
- 24:28Speaker 2: So I was a little surprised, a little throwne. You know,
- 24:32Speaker 2: you've been around the block with podcasts. Uh. You showed
- 24:36Speaker 2: up holding what is obviously a gift, which I assume
- 24:39Speaker 2: is for me.
- 24:40Speaker 4: I misread. Oh I thought it was. I said no
- 24:46Speaker 4: gift like with a comma. Oh right right, Yeah, I'm okay.
- 24:52Speaker 4: This is so embarrassing.
- 24:54Speaker 3: That feels like an easy mistake to make.
- 24:56Speaker 5: I agree, So let's all let's not let's not go
- 24:58Speaker 5: ellen on me. But I did. I did, in fact
- 25:02Speaker 5: bring you some gifts.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, should I open it here on the podcast?
- 25:07Speaker 2: I mean if you want to, sure, fine, It's in
- 25:13Speaker 2: this delicious little blue bag.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Yea cuny. I love this type of paper.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:17Speaker 4: I was like, I'm going on a podcast. I want
- 25:18Speaker 4: something that makes a lot.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Of noise, Yes, as much noise as possible.
- 25:24Speaker 5: And that's the gift. There's nothing insight, it's just it's
- 25:26Speaker 5: a plaything. Yeah, it's asmr.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Let me reach in here. It feels like there are
- 25:32Speaker 2: multiple things there are, doesn't matter what order I take it.
- 25:34Speaker 4: I would say, the first thing you maybe want to
- 25:36Speaker 4: be careful with because it might get on your hands.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Oh boy, I'm touching something that may be getting all
- 25:41Speaker 2: over my fingers. I'm gonna I'm just gonna pull it
- 25:43Speaker 2: out and see it for it.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Oh, it's a mini key lime pie that I made.
- 25:52Speaker 2: That I've just put my fingers right into. Look at that,
- 25:56Speaker 2: and I will say, there's also a hair in it?
- 25:58Speaker 5: Is there a hair in it?
- 26:01Speaker 2: Is that a hair or a crack?
- 26:03Speaker 5: Wait?
- 26:03Speaker 4: Let me see you inspect. I do think that is
- 26:07Speaker 4: a hair. And what's worse, I think it is a
- 26:10Speaker 4: cat hair. It is a distinctly a hair with a gradient. Okay,
- 26:15Speaker 4: so that's totally fine. I assume your cat my cat. Yes, well,
- 26:20Speaker 4: I'll have to eat it at some point. At some point,
- 26:22Speaker 4: maybe we could get a fork or something, and here
- 26:24Speaker 4: you can eat around the hair, eat around the hair.
- 26:26Speaker 4: My cat's pretty clean. I've lived in homes with all
- 26:29Speaker 4: sorts of pets.
- 26:29Speaker 5: There you go.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I assume anyone who's had a cat or dog has
- 26:32Speaker 2: consumed at least a pound of dog fur.
- 26:35Speaker 5: I do believe so, and then even more on accident.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, by accident, yeah, of course, on purpose, the
- 26:40Speaker 2: amount of furs handless, Yeah, but by accident at least
- 26:44Speaker 2: one or two strands.
- 26:45Speaker 4: I mean, that's what the dinner we were talking about
- 26:46Speaker 4: is a lot of cats, A lot of cat.
- 26:48Speaker 2: For Yeah, well, I want to talk about cats and
- 26:52Speaker 2: key lime pie. But are you making a lot of
- 26:54Speaker 2: these little pies?
- 26:55Speaker 5: I make a lot of pies in general.
- 26:57Speaker 4: The other day I made a pie for a friend
- 26:59Speaker 4: who was moving away temporarily, and I have all of
- 27:03Speaker 4: these tiny little gram cracker crusts, and I just had
- 27:05Speaker 4: extra Keylan pie feeling.
- 27:06Speaker 5: So I was like, let me just make extra and
- 27:07Speaker 5: I've just been ghishing them out.
- 27:11Speaker 3: How long have you been making pies for?
- 27:13Speaker 4: I have been someone who likes to bake all my life,
- 27:16Speaker 4: but I feel like pies have been pretty recent, Like
- 27:17Speaker 4: I would say, in the pandemic, when everyone's getting into baking,
- 27:20Speaker 4: I was like, what's the thing I can bake that
- 27:21Speaker 4: I can also distribute to friends? And pies and cakes
- 27:25Speaker 4: felt like a thing where it's like, oh, it's a
- 27:26Speaker 4: friend's birthday. I can go and drop this off and
- 27:28Speaker 4: say hi to them and talk to them. But it's
- 27:30Speaker 4: also just so I think pies are things that can
- 27:33Speaker 4: be made easily and feel like the ratio of difficulty
- 27:37Speaker 4: to the amount of exuberance people feeling is like, it's
- 27:43Speaker 4: just like you've done this.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Huge things like a miracle.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 5: I'm like around hard, but I love to do it.
- 27:47Speaker 4: I love to follow the instructions, Thank you so much,
- 27:51Speaker 4: instructions of someone having putting them online, and they just
- 27:54Speaker 4: like I've made a thing.
- 27:55Speaker 5: I've done science right right.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Yeah, And also there's certain It's like the amount of
- 28:00Speaker 4: that you can decorate a pie is so fun when
- 28:01Speaker 4: it's like a apple or rubar pie, and you do
- 28:04Speaker 4: like lattice.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Yeah, we're cutting a shape out of it. Yes, what
- 28:08Speaker 2: was the first pie you made?
- 28:10Speaker 4: I think the first pie made was probably like it's
- 28:13Speaker 4: a standard apple pie.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Oh okay, that feels like kind of high level difficulty.
- 28:18Speaker 5: I don't think I was doing like lattice or anything.
- 28:19Speaker 4: I think it was just like I'm just going to
- 28:21Speaker 4: put the crust on top and have it and I'm
- 28:22Speaker 4: sure it didn't turn out well.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah, are you making your own like pie crust? See
- 28:28Speaker 2: that's the reason I never try. I would try a
- 28:30Speaker 2: gram cracker crust. I get that. That makes sense to me,
- 28:33Speaker 2: And it's hard to screw up butter and gram cracker. Yes,
- 28:36Speaker 2: it's very Yeah, but with the pie crust, you know,
- 28:39Speaker 2: I feel like every recipe is almost threatening. You like,
- 28:42Speaker 2: if you don't do this, if you don't refrigerate the water,
- 28:45Speaker 2: blah blah refrigeration.
- 28:47Speaker 4: It's like it's a lot of prep. It's you going.
- 28:49Speaker 4: It's you have to decide ahead of time that you're
- 28:50Speaker 4: going to make a pie from scratch. And it's been like, okay,
- 28:53Speaker 4: well I'm making a pie tomorrow, so it's day I'm
- 28:55Speaker 4: going to make a crust right, which is sometimes annoying,
- 28:57Speaker 4: especially when it's like make it in a circle and
- 28:59Speaker 4: then cut it in and it's like it crumbles sometimes huh.
- 29:02Speaker 4: But I just feel like it's another step and I'm like,
- 29:05Speaker 4: when there's more stuff I can do that's fun and
- 29:07Speaker 4: takes up time, and there's less I have to do
- 29:09Speaker 4: another thing?
- 29:10Speaker 3: What a healthy attitude.
- 29:12Speaker 5: I agree.
- 29:13Speaker 2: My baking, I can't plan ahead. That's my big problem.
- 29:16Speaker 2: So the only thing I can ever make is a
- 29:17Speaker 2: cookie because that required that's just one thing.
- 29:20Speaker 3: You do it and then you're done.
- 29:22Speaker 4: I do love that though, where it's just like I
- 29:24Speaker 4: gotta bring something to sing, I'll make a cookie.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Right, make a cookie every I mean, I really do
- 29:28Speaker 2: think if you make anything at home, people are going
- 29:31Speaker 2: to be like, Wow, what a life he's living. Yeah,
- 29:34Speaker 2: who is this renaissance man that he's able to do something.
- 29:38Speaker 5: It's like, well, I'm not living in a life, which
- 29:39Speaker 5: is why I'm able to do.
- 29:40Speaker 2: So much time. You have no idea what's your favorite
- 29:43Speaker 2: pie to make?
- 29:46Speaker 4: So until very recently I had not had or made
- 29:50Speaker 4: key lime pie. I made it for a friend and
- 29:53Speaker 4: she's like, how have you not had this? You should
- 29:54Speaker 4: try a slice. And I tried it and I was like,
- 29:55Speaker 4: this is actually like I also rarely eat the things
- 29:58Speaker 4: that I'm baking. Sure it's for someone else, right, but
- 30:00Speaker 4: I really enjoyed that, and I feel like I've made
- 30:02Speaker 4: so many since. And then we'll make like whipped cream
- 30:04Speaker 4: and do little decorations on it, and I I like that.
- 30:06Speaker 4: But I also I do like like a strawberry rhubarb pie,
- 30:10Speaker 4: just because again the lattice work and getting put stuff on,
- 30:13Speaker 4: and I think it's so fun.
- 30:15Speaker 3: What do we think rhubarb is?
- 30:17Speaker 4: I nobody knows, and it is confusing. Every time my bikes,
- 30:20Speaker 4: I'm just like, this is a fruit. It's like a bitter.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Fruit but also celery.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Yeah. And also if you eat it raw, it's poisonous.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Is that true?
- 30:29Speaker 5: That is true?
- 30:30Speaker 3: I feel like I've eaten raw rubarb.
- 30:32Speaker 5: You're one of our strongest soldiers.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Then I feel like it's a kid. I was obsessed
- 30:36Speaker 2: with raw rubarb really, yeah, because it's like sour.
- 30:39Speaker 5: That's it is.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:40Speaker 5: I don't maybe it's if it's not cooked in a
- 30:43Speaker 5: certain I do.
- 30:43Speaker 4: I feel like many a time, maybe it's like when
- 30:46Speaker 4: you're a child, everything is fine or it's like you
- 30:48Speaker 4: were getting sick and you're like, I don't know what
- 30:49Speaker 4: it is.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Could explain a lot of things about my personality. Yeah,
- 30:52Speaker 2: they're like, there's nobody to know what this is. Keeps
- 30:54Speaker 2: you on that rhubarb yeah, because I feel like I
- 30:56Speaker 2: would eat it almost like celery. Yeah, and you usually
- 31:00Speaker 2: the only time you hear of rubarb is essentially in
- 31:02Speaker 2: a strawberry rubarb pie.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:04Speaker 3: And it feels like as no other use it's not.
- 31:06Speaker 5: It's also like it's always it's with strawberry.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 31:09Speaker 5: At a certain point, I'm like, it feels like this
- 31:10Speaker 5: should just be one fruit.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Yeah, hybrid, Yeah, that feels like some straw straw barb
- 31:15Speaker 2: straw barb barbery barberry.
- 31:18Speaker 3: The options are endless.
- 31:19Speaker 2: It feels like somebody's got to start working on that,
- 31:21Speaker 2: although textually it might start to be a little bit
- 31:23Speaker 2: of a freak. YEA strawberries are I guess they both
- 31:26Speaker 2: have a snap though A good strawberry isn't like mushy.
- 31:29Speaker 4: No, But I feel like the texture of a strawberry
- 31:32Speaker 4: on the outside is like that has the little seed dimples,
- 31:34Speaker 4: and I love that so much, and I'm not I'm like,
- 31:35Speaker 4: don't give it to rhubarb, rubarb.
- 31:37Speaker 5: It's just flat. It's celery. It's like crunchy. I don't know.
- 31:40Speaker 2: And to see all those little seeds in a long
- 31:42Speaker 2: celery stock would be unpleasant.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Mortified.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Yeah, so this is why they haven't done that.
- 31:47Speaker 3: That's why you and I don't work for Monsanto.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yeah, but Monsanto does mon Santo do the sort of
- 31:53Speaker 2: thing make uh, genetic vegetables.
- 31:57Speaker 4: I'm sure they are doing the GMO. It's like someone's like, no,
- 32:00Speaker 4: they don't, Mike will publicly probably.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Yeah, they've got a real doctor Moreau. Is that the thing?
- 32:05Speaker 3: Yes, Yeah, the island of Doctor Monsanto.
- 32:08Speaker 4: They've got a basement where like someone's just whipping like
- 32:10Speaker 4: fruits that like got it, get back, get.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Back, Okay, I need to I want to try this pie.
- 32:17Speaker 2: You don't have to if you don't want to. I
- 32:19Speaker 2: mean I've had We're gonna get it out of I'm
- 32:21Speaker 2: gonna get away from the.
- 32:22Speaker 5: Hair if you must.
- 32:23Speaker 2: If I'll save that for later. A little midnight snack.
- 32:27Speaker 5: Do you have pets?
- 32:29Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 32:29Speaker 5: I just started to ask a question right as you eat.
- 32:31Speaker 2: So rude talk now. Oh that's good. Yeah, that's a
- 32:35Speaker 2: good lime flavor. Yeah, very tart, which I enjoy.
- 32:38Speaker 4: I Also, the thing about a key lime pie is
- 32:41Speaker 4: when you buy the ingredients for one pie, it's like,
- 32:43Speaker 4: now you have the stuff to you just have a
- 32:44Speaker 4: bag of key limess.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Right, so I will just be like, Okay, well who
- 32:49Speaker 5: wants pie?
- 32:49Speaker 4: Everybody? I gotta make fucking four pies to make this
- 32:52Speaker 4: worth it.
- 32:53Speaker 3: I'm drowning here right right.
- 32:55Speaker 2: No, But to answer your question, we just got a
- 32:57Speaker 2: puppy about a month and a half ago and she's fantastic.
- 33:01Speaker 3: You have it one cat.
- 33:02Speaker 5: I do have one cat. I used to have a dog.
- 33:04Speaker 5: He was a senior dog.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Every time I hear about someone getting a puppy, I'm
- 33:07Speaker 4: just like, I cannot imagine that.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Well, that's that was my thought as well.
- 33:13Speaker 2: We had a dog up until twenty twenty three and
- 33:16Speaker 2: she passed away and my boyfriend got her when she
- 33:19Speaker 2: was one, so she was young but not a puppy. Yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 2: and he came to her very well trained. Whoever had
- 33:25Speaker 2: had her before had done some training, so we like
- 33:28Speaker 2: it was just an easy as a cake walk with her.
- 33:30Speaker 2: And I've had a puppy, like as a kid, we
- 33:33Speaker 2: had a puppy, and I know that it's a process
- 33:36Speaker 2: you have to go through. It's a tough situation. And
- 33:39Speaker 2: I said absolutely no to a puppy. But then we
- 33:41Speaker 2: started going to shelters and stuff and trying to find
- 33:44Speaker 2: a dog, and eventually we found this picture of Bonnie
- 33:47Speaker 2: or dog, and it was just you know, of course
- 33:49Speaker 2: it's nature tricking you where it's like, look at this creature.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Of course you want it. And so we got her
- 33:56Speaker 2: and she's been fantastic. My boyfriend, I think, was a
- 34:00Speaker 2: little like I can't believe that she has energy. I
- 34:02Speaker 2: can't believe she wants to chew on things. Yeah, but
- 34:04Speaker 2: like as far as a puppy goes, she's been as
- 34:07Speaker 2: good as she possibly can because I did not want
- 34:10Speaker 2: to deal with a puppy and basically we haven't had to.
- 34:13Speaker 3: She's huge though, yea.
- 34:15Speaker 2: She started maybe this big, and she's I think thirty
- 34:17Speaker 2: thirty five pounds at this point, and she's gonna be
- 34:21Speaker 2: she's going to she's a Rottweiler, so she's gonna be
- 34:23Speaker 2: like eighty five pounds maybe.
- 34:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:26Speaker 2: But it's fun when you have a puppy because you're like, oh,
- 34:28Speaker 2: I want I think this is This is also how
- 34:30Speaker 2: I felt when I had my first my sister had
- 34:32Speaker 2: her first daughter.
- 34:33Speaker 3: I was like, oh, I want to know you at
- 34:34Speaker 3: every age.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's just like, oh, I don't care what
- 34:36Speaker 2: sizer or whatever you are.
- 34:38Speaker 3: It's just I'm sure it'll be lovely the whole time.
- 34:41Speaker 4: I do remember thinking, like with my dog, when I
- 34:43Speaker 4: got so attached to him, and just being like, I wish,
- 34:45Speaker 4: more than anything I can know who you were when
- 34:47Speaker 4: you were small. But also because I'm like, he was
- 34:50Speaker 4: so sweet and like never barked him. It was just
- 34:52Speaker 4: very nice and friendly to everyone, I'm like, how did
- 34:53Speaker 4: you get this way? What happened?
- 34:56Speaker 2: So? But yeah, oh right, I mean the amount of
- 34:59Speaker 2: like Google and I came close to hiring a private
- 35:03Speaker 2: eye to get pictures of our past or old dog Eedy,
- 35:06Speaker 2: photos of her as a poppy.
- 35:07Speaker 3: I was desperate to see pictures of this animal as
- 35:09Speaker 3: a baby.
- 35:10Speaker 5: And the private I would just be like, I'll just
- 35:12Speaker 5: go find a dollar.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Looks right, I'll go to like a breeder and take
- 35:15Speaker 2: a picture of this sort of dog for you.
- 35:17Speaker 5: We'll use AI to make the dogs smaller.
- 35:21Speaker 2: It's did you ever watch that Errol Morris documentary Tabloid?
- 35:25Speaker 1: No?
- 35:26Speaker 2: Oh, it's so good. It's it's not about dogs. Basically,
- 35:30Speaker 2: it's about a woman who kidnapped a Mormon missionary in
- 35:33Speaker 2: England and kind of turned him into her sex thing
- 35:37Speaker 2: for a little while. Wow, And it became this giant
- 35:39Speaker 2: tabloid thing in the seventies. But then she disappeared and
- 35:42Speaker 2: I guess this is kind of a spoiler, but whatever,
- 35:45Speaker 2: she ended up being the first person to clone her dog.
- 35:47Speaker 2: So later, like decades later, suddenly she's in the news again,
- 35:50Speaker 2: but for this other crazy reason.
- 35:51Speaker 5: What the waituh?
- 35:54Speaker 4: And and was it are they connecting any way where?
- 35:59Speaker 5: It's like the cloning thing? Is that?
- 36:01Speaker 3: No, she just, like I wonder if there was some
- 36:03Speaker 3: desperation for attention.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yeah, but she just loved her dog, which I think
- 36:07Speaker 2: was named Booker, and she I remember, like it must
- 36:10Speaker 2: have been twenty years ago or something like that the
- 36:13Speaker 2: first dog got cloned in Korea or whatever, and it
- 36:15Speaker 2: was her. That's this lady just kept getting in the news.
- 36:18Speaker 2: And then I worked at a talk show in the
- 36:21Speaker 2: when I first moved to LA and apparently I was
- 36:24Speaker 2: banned from answering the phone because I was so bad
- 36:26Speaker 2: at answering the phone. But uh, podcast again, what's happened. Yeah,
- 36:34Speaker 2: it was too many buttons. Ye, too much.
- 36:36Speaker 3: I can't push hold and then send about.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Actually sound stressful. Oh it's so stressful. You have no idea,
- 36:42Speaker 2: You have no idea. But do you know Patrick McDonald? Yes,
- 36:47Speaker 2: he worked at the show as well. He was allowed
- 36:49Speaker 2: to answer the phones, and I believe it was him
- 36:51Speaker 2: that was telling me that she, this lady would call
- 36:52Speaker 2: in trying to like book herself as a guest on
- 36:54Speaker 2: the show.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Oh my god, that's insane. What is she in jail?
- 36:58Speaker 3: Now we should check whoever you are, reach out.
- 37:02Speaker 5: Let's have her. We'll have her and we'll have Ellen
- 37:05Speaker 5: on the same show.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Yeah, she probably would reach out to be honest, it
- 37:10Speaker 2: sounds like she wants to be on something. Yeah, yeah,
- 37:12Speaker 2: I wouldn't mind. Oh and also former Mormon here. Oh
- 37:15Speaker 2: I'm putting myself in danger.
- 37:17Speaker 5: Oh that's very true. Yeah.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Well, anything for the scoop, anything for anything, for a journalist.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Maybe it's also not a type that she has as
- 37:27Speaker 4: much as it was, like she did it once and
- 37:29Speaker 4: now she's actually I've been there.
- 37:31Speaker 5: I don't want no thank you.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I've closed the chapter on that. Yeah, no, she's she's
- 37:36Speaker 2: out there somewhere I think in Wyoming potentially still cloning dogs.
- 37:40Speaker 2: But I mean, I mean, truly the most immoral thing
- 37:44Speaker 2: you can do, pet wise, clone your dog.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean yes, it's I mean I just can't
- 37:49Speaker 4: imagine the desire for that. And also because it's like
- 37:52Speaker 4: people going like I want this exact dog, and I'm like,
- 37:54Speaker 4: that's not how it's gonna go.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Do you know how anything works?
- 37:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it's so environment based and all. Yeah, it's just
- 38:00Speaker 4: not it's wild.
- 38:01Speaker 2: And putting the pressure on that poor creature you've created
- 38:04Speaker 2: to become the same animal.
- 38:05Speaker 4: I'm also just a little like you gotta learn, you
- 38:09Speaker 4: the thing there is really just you need to learn
- 38:11Speaker 4: to let things go. Not in a way of like
- 38:13Speaker 4: that would never say that when they're grieving, but in
- 38:15Speaker 4: the way that it's like if your attachment to something
- 38:17Speaker 4: is so strong that you're like instead of letting it
- 38:18Speaker 4: go or being upset that it has died and like
- 38:21Speaker 4: coming to terms with grief, I'm gonna use science to
- 38:24Speaker 4: replicate it, exactly. I'm like, there's millions of stories, like
- 38:28Speaker 4: cautionary tales about that, exactly.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Caness maybe like legends and myths.
- 38:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think you should do that.
- 38:35Speaker 2: They never turn out well once unless you found out
- 38:38Speaker 2: that the dog actually went to hell and you have
- 38:40Speaker 2: to rescue it by cloning it.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Yeah, now there's a story.
- 38:43Speaker 5: There's a story, there's an interesting.
- 38:45Speaker 4: You clone it and you're like, this time, I'm gonna
- 38:47Speaker 4: do it right. I'm gonna I'm gonna teach it how
- 38:49Speaker 4: to be a good dog. So it goes to heaven.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Uh, which you know you shouldn't rule anything out. No,
- 38:55Speaker 2: you know how old your cat?
- 38:57Speaker 5: My cat is?
- 38:58Speaker 4: I think a little over to oh baby, yeah very
- 39:02Speaker 4: much baby.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Where did you get it?
- 39:04Speaker 5: So?
- 39:05Speaker 4: My dog passed away also in twenty twenty three years
- 39:07Speaker 4: but a few weeks before he passed away, a friend
- 39:10Speaker 4: of mine who was moving to Alaska just text me
- 39:13Speaker 4: being like, dimmy, there's like a cat in my yard.
- 39:15Speaker 4: I don't know what's going on. I was like, oh shit,
- 39:17Speaker 4: I'm sorry. I do you want to help? And then
- 39:18Speaker 4: she didn't respond, and like ten hours later she's like,
- 39:20Speaker 4: this cat is still in my yard, like meowing and
- 39:22Speaker 4: trying to get in here, and I don't know what
- 39:23Speaker 4: to do because I'm about to leave town.
- 39:24Speaker 5: I can't deal with this.
- 39:25Speaker 4: And she had dogs and was like I can't deal
- 39:27Speaker 4: with this at all, and so I was like, Okay,
- 39:29Speaker 4: i've lived with a cat before. I can come and
- 39:31Speaker 4: take the cat and like foster it. And I was like,
- 39:33Speaker 4: I'm not keeping this cat though, and I named it
- 39:35Speaker 4: in TBD because I was like, I'm literally I was like,
- 39:38Speaker 4: I'm not giving him a name. But then at certain point,
- 39:40Speaker 4: it's like, well, I gotta get a litter box, so
- 39:42Speaker 4: we had somewhere to pee, and I'm gonna get him
- 39:43Speaker 4: food and I had all the provisions, and I was like,
- 39:45Speaker 4: I'm gonna try and teach him to be whatever, and
- 39:48Speaker 4: he got along with my dog just fine. But I
- 39:50Speaker 4: also was like I can't deal with this cat and
- 39:52Speaker 4: this dog a lot. It's a lot, and I was
- 39:55Speaker 4: just like at a certain point my dog was dying
- 39:57Speaker 4: and my friends kept like throughout the process of my
- 39:59Speaker 4: cat being there, people kept just being like, you're obviously
- 40:02Speaker 4: going to keep the cat, Like no, I'm not.
- 40:03Speaker 5: I'm really I'm not doing it. I'm just not. I
- 40:05Speaker 5: don't want a cat.
- 40:06Speaker 4: And then like the day before my dog passed, I
- 40:09Speaker 4: had friends come over to say goodbye. And my dog's
- 40:12Speaker 4: name was Clooney because it fit his vibe. But also
- 40:15Speaker 4: because to me, I was like, oh, I love Ocean's eleven.
- 40:18Speaker 4: I was like, Clooney is the vibe of this dog.
- 40:21Speaker 4: And so the day before friends came over and they
- 40:23Speaker 4: were like, sir, I was going to keep the cat.
- 40:25Speaker 5: What name you think you're gonna give it. I was like,
- 40:26Speaker 5: I'm not doing that.
- 40:27Speaker 4: And they were like, let's go through a bunch of
- 40:29Speaker 4: names from the Ocean's franchise that you could It's like
- 40:31Speaker 4: Bernie mac kate and they were like Elliott Gould and
- 40:34Speaker 4: I was like, I'm not doing any of these. And
- 40:35Speaker 4: they were like, what about Terry Bennedict And I was like,
- 40:38Speaker 4: Terry Bennedict. It's kind of like TVD Terry. But yeah,
- 40:42Speaker 4: if I kept the cat, I would And then like
- 40:45Speaker 4: it was, my dog passed away and I was pretty
- 40:48Speaker 4: quickly just sort of like, it's nice to have another
- 40:50Speaker 4: animal in the house.
- 40:50Speaker 5: We're going to keep the cat.
- 40:53Speaker 4: And so I kept him, and then my ex was
- 40:56Speaker 4: basically like when she would come over, would call him
- 40:58Speaker 4: Benny a Terr Bennedict and that suck. And so now
- 41:01Speaker 4: his name officially is Benny, but on the like the
- 41:04Speaker 4: VET forms Terry Benedict. But yeah, Terry Benedict being the
- 41:08Speaker 4: villain from Otions eleven, of course.
- 41:09Speaker 2: So when you go to the vet, do they like?
- 41:11Speaker 2: The nurse comes out and says Terry Benedict, Yes, and.
- 41:16Speaker 5: It does nothing to him because he only responds to Benny.
- 41:18Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, cat names are interesting because you're rarely used.
- 41:23Speaker 4: Yes, I feel like a lot of times they don't
- 41:25Speaker 4: answer them at all, and it does just feel like
- 41:27Speaker 4: a way to be, like, here's my way of acknowledging
- 41:29Speaker 4: the creature that is also in this right, my cat
- 41:31Speaker 4: very recently has been answering to it and will be
- 41:34Speaker 4: like I'll be like in bed, I'll just pick Benny
- 41:36Speaker 4: and he'll running out of nowhere and just jump into
- 41:38Speaker 4: bed with me, which I think is just because I
- 41:40Speaker 4: was gone for so long that now he misses me, right,
- 41:42Speaker 4: so he'll get over that quickly.
- 41:44Speaker 2: What color of cat he is?
- 41:46Speaker 5: Gray, short hair, Yeah, I.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Love a good cat. I love a sweet cat.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Very rambunctious.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Well, should I keep going in the bag or that
- 41:54Speaker 3: you meant on the pile?
- 41:55Speaker 2: Finish the pie was?
- 41:59Speaker 5: Yeah, every bite? But yes, please keep going right?
- 42:04Speaker 3: Okay, now this is a larger object. Oh oh my god,
- 42:11Speaker 3: three D film camera.
- 42:12Speaker 2: This is wait a three D Yeah, how I don't
- 42:15Speaker 2: know that I've ever heard of this.
- 42:16Speaker 4: So basically, it shoots like if you have a roll
- 42:20Speaker 4: of like twenty four exposures on a roll of film, Yeah,
- 42:22Speaker 4: will shoot half frames and it'll shoot three half frames
- 42:25Speaker 4: at once, which you then when you get the film back,
- 42:28Speaker 4: you can like put it in an app or line
- 42:30Speaker 4: them up. So it's basically you have them like moved
- 42:33Speaker 4: together in like a stereogram way.
- 42:35Speaker 3: I can show you. Yeah, I would own an example. Spatially.
- 42:38Speaker 3: I'm very bad, so I need this show too.
- 42:40Speaker 4: It's hard to it's hard to describe, honestly, but I
- 42:44Speaker 4: let me just find one here.
- 42:46Speaker 2: Whoa, yeah, is this a new thing? Not because this
- 42:51Speaker 2: camera looks, you know, like it's old and older. I
- 42:54Speaker 2: want to say it's that's from the nineties. There's so
- 42:56Speaker 2: in the eighties. I believe there was a camera call
- 43:00Speaker 2: Nishika and three hundred. I want to say that you
- 43:04Speaker 2: used to shoot four lenses and it's very similar, and
- 43:07Speaker 2: I think that's probably when this kind of thing started.
- 43:10Speaker 2: They don't do it a lot anymore. But I have
- 43:13Speaker 2: like two of these and was like, well, I'm going
- 43:14Speaker 2: to give you this one my god. I think it's
- 43:16Speaker 2: my favorite type of party camera and it's just yeah,
- 43:19Speaker 2: it's just a lot of fun.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Wow, where did you get it?
- 43:21Speaker 5: I want to say, I got that one in New York?
- 43:23Speaker 3: And how did you become aware of these?
- 43:25Speaker 4: I'm a big camera and film guy. I have I
- 43:28Speaker 4: think thirty one different cameras.
- 43:30Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 43:30Speaker 5: Yeah, and I.
- 43:32Speaker 4: Use all of them, not like routinely, but it's like
- 43:34Speaker 4: if I buy a new camera the intention, it's like
- 43:35Speaker 4: I'm not just collecting them, it's.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Like I want to use it.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think that like with these ones, I
- 43:42Speaker 4: want to say that I saw it online someone and
- 43:44Speaker 4: was like, that's interesting. I love to buy one of that,
- 43:45Speaker 4: and I bought a different one, and then that one
- 43:47Speaker 4: broken about this one, and then I bought the original
- 43:49Speaker 4: one because I missed it, right, But it's just uh, yeah,
- 43:51Speaker 4: I just I love going to a party and shooting
- 43:53Speaker 4: photos with.
- 43:54Speaker 5: This, and everyone like really enjoys it when I.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Get it back, and it just feels so much more
- 43:58Speaker 4: lively to have a photo that shows like, of course it.
- 44:01Speaker 2: A little more cool. Yeah, what were they doing initially
- 44:03Speaker 2: before apps? Like how would you experience? That?
- 44:05Speaker 3: Is such a good question. I genuinely don't. Until ten
- 44:08Speaker 3: years ago, you just couldn't use these.
- 44:10Speaker 4: Yeah, video like I because it's not it's not like
- 44:15Speaker 4: so new that it is for phones.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Right, I'm like imagining you know, like those little stop
- 44:20Speaker 2: or the the flip book thing something like that. Yeah,
- 44:24Speaker 2: because I can't. And maybe they just said the technology
- 44:28Speaker 2: was ahead of its time and it was unusable for decades, Like.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Well, now you have four photos that look exactly the
- 44:33Speaker 4: same with slight differences.
- 44:34Speaker 5: Maybe it was like in video in some.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Way, right, So sort of they put it on a
- 44:38Speaker 2: tape or something, which seems deeply inconvenient.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Yes, it's like, hey, you guys want to see like
- 44:43Speaker 4: a second of some photos.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Just a flickering photop on my TV.
- 44:47Speaker 5: I'm not sure what they did before.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Fascinating. Yeah, do you have a favorite camera.
- 44:51Speaker 5: You work with?
- 44:52Speaker 4: I have a go to camera that I shoot like
- 44:54Speaker 4: everything with because all of my cameras, aside from one,
- 44:58Speaker 4: are film cameras, and I will shoot with a it's
- 45:02Speaker 4: a Canon EOS one end, which is just like a
- 45:05Speaker 4: it's a standard, but it's like it has auto focus.
- 45:08Speaker 4: It's digital, right, but with film, and I just that's
- 45:11Speaker 4: a camera that I'll take everywhere with me. If it's
- 45:12Speaker 4: like I'm going on a walk or I'm going I'm
- 45:14Speaker 4: on a trip, it's like standard and fast and just
- 45:17Speaker 4: I don't have to like manually anything.
- 45:19Speaker 3: Right, quality but quick?
- 45:20Speaker 2: Yes, interesting and what got you into cameras I've had.
- 45:24Speaker 4: There was like a film camera I had for like
- 45:25Speaker 4: ten years that I would use every so often. But
- 45:28Speaker 4: there was a two years ago I was working on
- 45:31Speaker 4: a show that shot in Puerto Rico and I had
- 45:33Speaker 4: to be in Puerto Rico for three months and I
- 45:35Speaker 4: took this camera with me. I feel like that's when
- 45:37Speaker 4: it really I was like, I can just walk around
- 45:39Speaker 4: and have a camera, and that's a thing to do, right.
- 45:41Speaker 3: It was an immediate activity, yes, and it made.
- 45:44Speaker 4: Me like sort of be like, oh now I'm thinking
- 45:45Speaker 4: about how I look in the world and how I
- 45:47Speaker 4: do things. And then I got into like every it
- 45:50Speaker 4: was like I also, as someone who like directs and
- 45:52Speaker 4: wants to be more of a director, I think like
- 45:54Speaker 4: shooting on film means that I have to be in
- 45:56Speaker 4: particular about the way that I frame things. And therefore
- 45:59Speaker 4: it's like I think it makes me better at composition
- 46:00Speaker 4: and understanding what.
- 46:01Speaker 5: I like in the photo.
- 46:02Speaker 3: You actually have to think it through. You have fewer chances.
- 46:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 46:05Speaker 2: It also gives you like an authority that I feel
- 46:07Speaker 2: like a phone does. Yes, when you have a camera,
- 46:10Speaker 2: people are like, yeah, of course he's taking photos. Sure,
- 46:13Speaker 2: that's what he would do with this thing, whereas with
- 46:15Speaker 2: the phone's like you're trying to sneak it or I
- 46:18Speaker 2: don't know, there's yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 46:20Speaker 4: I also feel like I care so much more about
- 46:22Speaker 4: the photos I take on a proper camera, yeah, than
- 46:25Speaker 4: with my phone, which I'm just like I'll be I'll
- 46:27Speaker 4: forget that. It's like, oh yeah, there's a two screenshots
- 46:29Speaker 4: of my uber eats in here, and they're also a
- 46:31Speaker 4: photo of my cat, and it's like.
- 46:32Speaker 2: There's a QR code from a fly. Yeah, things like that.
- 46:36Speaker 4: But yeah, and then I got into like developing film
- 46:39Speaker 4: and like different types of film formats, and it just
- 46:41Speaker 4: became a thing that, like now is a huge hobby
- 46:43Speaker 4: of mine.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Are you are you developing? Like you're in the dark room? Yeah,
- 46:46Speaker 2: do you have a dark room at your house?
- 46:47Speaker 4: I have like a little half bathroom downstairs in my house,
- 46:50Speaker 4: and I just sort of when I don't have people over,
- 46:53Speaker 4: I'll be like, Okay, that's the room where I'm developing film.
- 46:55Speaker 4: There's chemicals and I got the window open.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 46:58Speaker 3: I love the smell of film.
- 47:00Speaker 5: It's really nice.
- 47:01Speaker 3: What is that? It's like almost dangerous.
- 47:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 47:04Speaker 4: I do think there's a world in which I had
- 47:07Speaker 4: I would have someone over and they'd be like, hey, actually,
- 47:09Speaker 4: I can tell that this is not good for my brain.
- 47:12Speaker 5: I'm sure I do it a lot.
- 47:13Speaker 3: I think it's probably doing this constantly, yeah, every day.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Yeah, did you study film or or like photography or
- 47:21Speaker 2: anything in school?
- 47:22Speaker 1: No?
- 47:22Speaker 4: I I I studied film, but it was never a
- 47:26Speaker 4: thing that I like, I didn't use a dark room
- 47:27Speaker 4: in school or anything. I think it is just truly
- 47:29Speaker 4: like I got into the hobby of film, and then
- 47:31Speaker 4: by extension, would like get into like subreddit where they
- 47:35Speaker 4: were talking about film and then talking about film development
- 47:36Speaker 4: and talking about other things. Right, I'd go to the
- 47:38Speaker 4: place where I go to buy film and be like,
- 47:39Speaker 4: what are all these supplies that you have around me?
- 47:41Speaker 4: And then just be like the curiosity just care of, like,
- 47:44Speaker 4: well now I want to do all of this, right.
- 47:46Speaker 2: It really can becomes such a rich hobby, yeah, which
- 47:48Speaker 2: just kind of never it.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Is fully you need to even just to be like
- 47:53Speaker 4: I'm gonna shoot on film and develop.
- 47:55Speaker 5: It's like, okay, well you're gonna have to pay for
- 47:57Speaker 5: the development.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Literally if you have a disposable camera at this point,
- 48:00Speaker 2: well it's still going to cost a decent amount of
- 48:01Speaker 2: money to even get this developed, which I do.
- 48:03Speaker 4: One thing I love about having like a dark rumor
- 48:06Speaker 4: like chemicals is occasionally friends, I'll just be like, if
- 48:08Speaker 4: anyone's developed their film for free from a disposable I'll
- 48:11Speaker 4: do it with you, like in my bathtub. Who It's like,
- 48:13Speaker 4: it's fun to like teach my friends how to do
- 48:15Speaker 4: it and also just be like, look at the photos.
- 48:16Speaker 4: You look at them right now, But yeah, that's always
- 48:20Speaker 4: a blast.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Wow. So you can do develop in color? Wow, that's
- 48:23Speaker 2: really the next level. We in my high school we
- 48:26Speaker 2: had a photo class and we could develop in black
- 48:27Speaker 2: and white.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:29Speaker 4: You know what's weird is because I feel like everyone
- 48:31Speaker 4: starts learning in black and white, and like I was
- 48:33Speaker 4: told that that is the easier way to do it.
- 48:35Speaker 4: But for me, black and white is so much more
- 48:37Speaker 4: complicated because it's very specific to the film right versus color.
- 48:40Speaker 4: It's like every color role is a standard, like time
- 48:43Speaker 4: and probably you can do a bunch of color roles
- 48:45Speaker 4: at once.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Interest.
- 48:46Speaker 4: I think it's maybe it's like because the chemistry is
- 48:48Speaker 4: like different or more dangerous, that it is a little
- 48:51Speaker 4: more like you have to do it specifically.
- 48:53Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Yeah, color has been easy. It seem makes it kind
- 48:55Speaker 2: of like makes no sense logically or within the rules
- 48:59Speaker 2: of REAC. Yeah, it's like where did the colors come from?
- 49:03Speaker 2: Honestly genuinely don't understand it. And I'm like, so, if
- 49:06Speaker 2: I developed color in the black and white chemical, is
- 49:08Speaker 2: it going to be black and whiter?
- 49:09Speaker 5: Is it going to be? Like I just I don't
- 49:12Speaker 5: ask questions.
- 49:13Speaker 3: Have you had any big disasters?
- 49:16Speaker 4: Not actually not like bad big disasters, but there's been
- 49:20Speaker 4: like one time where like the chemicals had sort of
- 49:24Speaker 4: worn out. I didn't realize it and I developed a
- 49:26Speaker 4: friend's to disposal roles and I was just like, these.
- 49:29Speaker 5: Are very faded.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Uh okay, So I think I realized what happened, and
- 49:34Speaker 4: like I had to like edit them in light room
- 49:35Speaker 4: the best I can. But she was just like, that's okay,
- 49:37Speaker 4: I don't care. But I was very like, oh god,
- 49:40Speaker 4: I've I've fucked up your photos. So you could have
- 49:42Speaker 4: taken to a place and had nice photos. Right, there's
- 49:44Speaker 4: no do over there, there's no yeah, which really bums
- 49:47Speaker 4: me out.
- 49:48Speaker 3: You kind of ruined her memories.
- 49:51Speaker 5: I ruined a lot of my own memories too.
- 49:52Speaker 4: It's very temperate also because it's like there be times
- 49:54Speaker 4: where like the film gets stuck in a camera, or
- 49:56Speaker 4: I've like rolled my own film and it just I
- 49:58Speaker 4: did it wrong. So mouse stresses me out in a huge,
- 50:02Speaker 4: huge yeah. I went to a friend's wedding recently. First
- 50:04Speaker 4: of all, I brought four cameras, which is crazy, but
- 50:07Speaker 4: I knew that she would appreciate it, so I was like,
- 50:09Speaker 4: that's great. I shot her engagement photos. I brought like
- 50:12Speaker 4: a super eight camera. I had a lot of stuff
- 50:14Speaker 4: that I was doing. But then we went to a
- 50:17Speaker 4: baseball game the next day and one of the roles
- 50:19Speaker 4: got like stuck in the camera and I was like, well,
- 50:22Speaker 4: in order to get it out, I have to open
- 50:24Speaker 4: it and brought it's like a heist, yes, And it
- 50:28Speaker 4: didn't successfully do the highs cause she went all right, yeah,
- 50:32Speaker 4: And I was like, Okay, I'll just undo it when
- 50:34Speaker 4: I get home. But like, so a lot of the
- 50:35Speaker 4: roles from that camera from the actual wedding. I was like,
- 50:39Speaker 4: I didn't get and luckily I had my three D camera,
- 50:42Speaker 4: I had my Super eight, I had a medium format
- 50:45Speaker 4: camera that was really heavy.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Are you you want to be directing more? Have you
- 50:50Speaker 2: directed anything recently?
- 50:52Speaker 5: Not recently.
- 50:53Speaker 4: I directed a short film for some friends last year,
- 50:56Speaker 4: and I'm probably going to direct another short this year.
- 50:59Speaker 4: But I also I feel like I've been just like
- 51:02Speaker 4: I have a movie that I want to direct that
- 51:05Speaker 4: I just am like, I need to finish writing it
- 51:07Speaker 4: because it's so important to me.
- 51:08Speaker 2: I keep being like, right, of course, of course it
- 51:11Speaker 2: could take the rest of your life.
- 51:12Speaker 5: Oh, let's hope not it should just be like, finish
- 51:15Speaker 5: it this week. It's just edits. But I'm like, but
- 51:17Speaker 5: I can't if it's not perfect.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Yes, I know that, feeling very well, yeah, well, thin,
- 51:20Speaker 2: you'll get it done eventually.
- 51:22Speaker 5: Let's hope, or you won't.
- 51:23Speaker 2: And who cares.
- 51:24Speaker 5: We're all die, Well, it'll die today.
- 51:26Speaker 3: We could all be on a plane right now.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I have a time I got on a plane.
- 51:30Speaker 4: I'm like, I'm going to write now, and it's like,
- 51:32Speaker 4: now you owt you're gonna die instead?
- 51:36Speaker 2: Is there anything else we should say about this camera.
- 51:38Speaker 2: I'm so excited about this.
- 51:40Speaker 4: I don't know if there's uh no, yeah, it's like
- 51:43Speaker 4: there's a little counter on top. Because it's like, basically,
- 51:47Speaker 4: if you're shooting twenty four a role that has twenty
- 51:50Speaker 4: four photos on it, you're actually shooting eighteen photos. You're
- 51:53Speaker 4: eighteen of the three photos shooting thirty six. It's twenty four.
- 51:56Speaker 4: Let me say, I don't know how to Well.
- 51:59Speaker 2: I'm glad you say that because the math in my
- 52:00Speaker 2: head was way off. Yeah, I won't even reveal what
- 52:03Speaker 2: I thought would the amount of photos would be taken.
- 52:06Speaker 5: You're like three times as many.
- 52:08Speaker 2: So I get to take a thousand photos right now. Oh,
- 52:11Speaker 2: I'm so excited about this. I'll have to take some
- 52:13Speaker 2: pictures and put them on Instagram at point. Does Instagram
- 52:17Speaker 2: allow you to put them on?
- 52:18Speaker 4: Yes, it's as a video, so it'll just okay, right,
- 52:20Speaker 4: a boomerang, right pre boomerang?
- 52:22Speaker 3: Do they still do boomerangs?
- 52:24Speaker 5: I am sure that kids don't.
- 52:26Speaker 3: Right, but they're probably planning to. It'll be like a throwback.
- 52:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it'll be like I remember boomerangs.
- 52:31Speaker 4: Oh, look at me, I'm thirty and I'll be like, okay,
- 52:34Speaker 4: I'm older than that.
- 52:37Speaker 3: Boomerangs they didn't last that long.
- 52:39Speaker 4: No, It's also like it's not that interesting of a thing,
- 52:42Speaker 4: Like what if a video was short and went backwards
- 52:44Speaker 4: at the end, and I'm like, where's it start, what's
- 52:47Speaker 4: what's the action?
- 52:48Speaker 2: What am I getting from this? And why is this
- 52:51Speaker 2: better than a picture?
- 52:52Speaker 4: If boomerangs came before video, it'd be massive? Oh of course,
- 52:56Speaker 4: It's like at that point we could just you can
- 52:57Speaker 4: just do a longer video.
- 52:59Speaker 5: Why would you would you have a boo?
- 53:01Speaker 2: Right? Well, it was a bad idea on Mark Zuckerberg's part.
- 53:04Speaker 2: We'll blame him. Well, I'm so excited about this is
- 53:07Speaker 2: there's nothing else in here. There's good I've gotten. What
- 53:10Speaker 2: a gift, What a delicious and wonderful gift I've been
- 53:12Speaker 2: a given. I think we should play a game. Let's
- 53:15Speaker 2: we're gonna play a game called Gift or a Curse.
- 53:17Speaker 2: But I need a number between one and ten from you.
- 53:19Speaker 5: Seven. Okay.
- 53:20Speaker 2: I have to do some light calculating to get our
- 53:22Speaker 2: game pieces. Okay, so right now you can recommend, and
- 53:26Speaker 2: let's not talk about my maths.
- 53:27Speaker 4: I was like the way I said the way I said,
- 53:28Speaker 4: It's like I don't know about that, Richard. It's more
- 53:30Speaker 4: that you just said that you were bad at maths
- 53:33Speaker 4: Oo okay, sorry, what do you What were you saying?
- 53:36Speaker 2: Right now?
- 53:36Speaker 3: You can recommend, promote, do whatever you want. I'll be
- 53:38Speaker 3: right back.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Did you give me a number already?
- 53:41Speaker 5: I said seven?
- 53:41Speaker 4: Seven, that's right. I don't know that I have much
- 53:43Speaker 4: to promote. I shot a special recently. It's called demy
- 53:47Speaker 4: Dejuibe is going to do one backflip uh and it
- 53:51Speaker 4: is going to come out sometime this year, I think November.
- 53:54Speaker 4: But I also don't hold me to that on dropout
- 53:58Speaker 4: where I also am doing a lot of performing stuff.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Aside from that, Do I have anything to promote Fantastic
- 54:05Speaker 4: four in theaters now? I'm not involved with it, but
- 54:08Speaker 4: I also haven't seen it. So also I could see
- 54:11Speaker 4: it before this comes out and be like, I didn't
- 54:12Speaker 4: like that very much?
- 54:13Speaker 5: What else? What else have you heard?
- 54:16Speaker 4: The music of LCD sound System also not involved with them.
- 54:20Speaker 4: I do like them, though, so I know that that's good.
- 54:24Speaker 2: They could use a foot up.
- 54:25Speaker 5: Yeah, they're not doing well. They're struggling. LCD Sounds needs
- 54:30Speaker 5: the Demi boost.
- 54:32Speaker 2: They're coming in September with Pulp.
- 54:34Speaker 5: They sure are.
- 54:35Speaker 3: I want to see Polp.
- 54:36Speaker 2: I want to I'll see LCD Sounds this m I
- 54:38Speaker 2: haven't bought tickets, so I.
- 54:39Speaker 4: Want to go to that, but I think I'm not
- 54:41Speaker 4: going to be in town. But every time I've seen
- 54:42Speaker 4: an LCD Soundsystem show, I have a moment where I'm
- 54:45Speaker 4: actively thinking, this is one of the best moments of
- 54:47Speaker 4: my life, which is, where.
- 54:48Speaker 5: Are you going to be New York?
- 54:50Speaker 3: Oh shame?
- 54:51Speaker 5: Yeah, wort City in the world.
- 54:52Speaker 2: O wor city on a plane and.
- 54:55Speaker 5: I'm just going for fun. I want to be there.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Another obvious mistake. Yeah, okay, this is how we play
- 55:04Speaker 2: Gift or a Curse. I'm going to name three things.
- 55:06Speaker 2: You'll tell me if there are a gift or a
- 55:08Speaker 2: curse and why. Then I'll tell you if you're right
- 55:10Speaker 2: or wrong, because there are correct answers, of course, and
- 55:12Speaker 2: you can lose shit, so just be nervous.
- 55:16Speaker 5: Uh yeah, I'm there.
- 55:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 55:17Speaker 2: This first one is from one of our Patreon listeners
- 55:20Speaker 2: who goes by the name Old Timey Juvenile. I assume
- 55:24Speaker 2: that's their Christian name. Gift or a Curse targeted ads
- 55:27Speaker 2: on Instagram for things you would actually want to purchase.
- 55:32Speaker 5: Oh gosh, that's a good one.
- 55:34Speaker 4: I've had this many times and I do end up
- 55:36Speaker 4: purchasing a thing and then people will compliment me on
- 55:38Speaker 4: it and I have to go, thanks, it's from in Instagram ad.
- 55:41Speaker 4: So I'm gonna say curse because when it is a
- 55:43Speaker 4: thing that you want and if people are like that's
- 55:45Speaker 4: really cool, you then have to say it's from an Instagram.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Ad, the least cool thing you could possibly.
- 55:50Speaker 5: Possibly You could just be like, oh, thank you.
- 55:52Speaker 4: I wish I remember where it's vintage, but they'll know no, Yeah,
- 55:56Speaker 4: curse because it's from an Instagram ad. No matter how
- 55:58Speaker 4: good it is, you have to own up to the
- 55:59Speaker 4: fact that it's because they saw everything that you like.
- 56:02Speaker 5: And when I bet you're like this, you little fucking piggy,
- 56:04Speaker 5: and you're.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Like I do. Yeah. Every time I've every time someone's
- 56:09Speaker 2: told me that, I'm like, well, you just didn't have
- 56:10Speaker 2: to tell me that.
- 56:11Speaker 3: Yeah, you could have just said thank you.
- 56:13Speaker 4: I feel like I'm like, I'm I feel guilty and
- 56:15Speaker 4: just like I don't want them to look it up
- 56:16Speaker 4: or be like I gotta know where that's from.
- 56:18Speaker 2: It's like they'll find it right then it'll be even
- 56:20Speaker 2: more embarrassing, and I kept it from them.
- 56:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like, damn, you're on that phone too much.
- 56:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess I do that with any compliment on clothing.
- 56:26Speaker 2: I just immediately undercut it. Yes, well, like tell them
- 56:29Speaker 2: where I got it from and how cheap it was, yeah,
- 56:32Speaker 2: rather than just saying thank.
- 56:33Speaker 5: You, yeah, oh, thank you so much. But I think
- 56:35Speaker 5: it's like that.
- 56:36Speaker 4: That's how you either keep the conversation going or you're like,
- 56:38Speaker 4: I know it's gonna be the next question, so let
- 56:40Speaker 4: me just say I got it from the trash.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Well, you're wrong. Oh, it's a gift for me. I
- 56:48Speaker 2: feel so strong. They've never gotten me. Yeah, They've shown
- 56:51Speaker 2: me things I would like to buy. Wow, and I
- 56:53Speaker 2: say no every single time. Okay, Well it's a gift
- 56:56Speaker 2: because you're strong enough. It's a gift. It's shown me
- 56:59Speaker 2: how strong I can be. Yeah, and how strong I
- 57:01Speaker 2: continue to be that. You know, they have more information
- 57:05Speaker 2: on me than even my partner. No one in the
- 57:10Speaker 2: world knows more about me than the internet, and they
- 57:13Speaker 2: still can't get me, still can't get you. They can
- 57:15Speaker 2: show me whatever they want, I'm not gonna buy it. Yeah,
- 57:18Speaker 2: So it's a gift. For showing me how strong I am.
- 57:21Speaker 2: That's a good point, so next time you're a tempted
- 57:25Speaker 2: to be strong.
- 57:26Speaker 4: There are times where I'm like, I think you think
- 57:28Speaker 4: I need this, and I definitely don't.
- 57:30Speaker 5: But it's always something stupid.
- 57:31Speaker 4: It'll be like I did see this once for like
- 57:34Speaker 4: an app that is like an email sort of thing,
- 57:36Speaker 4: and they're like, aren't you sick of paying thirty bucks
- 57:38Speaker 4: a month for email? And I'm like, that's not you
- 57:41Speaker 4: lost me, you fucked up. That's not a real problem,
- 57:43Speaker 4: and a real problem I don't have that. You think
- 57:45Speaker 4: I'm different. Sorry, I'm scrolling away.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Who's spending thirty dollars a month on you?
- 57:48Speaker 4: I don't know, but it really it haunts me because
- 57:51Speaker 4: I'm just sort of like, oh, I think, yeah, I don't.
- 57:54Speaker 4: That's not enough for me. I also saw one. I
- 57:56Speaker 4: think about this a lot. I saw one that's just
- 57:59Speaker 4: sort of like, will take care of a vacation. You
- 58:02Speaker 4: just show up and you won't even know where you're
- 58:03Speaker 4: going until you land. And I'm like, that is human trafficking.
- 58:06Speaker 4: That is absolutely not a service.
- 58:08Speaker 3: This is coming from the dark web.
- 58:10Speaker 4: Yes, there these are things that are just like they
- 58:12Speaker 4: think I'm either richer than I am and I'm spending
- 58:14Speaker 4: money poorly, or they're like you, you want the experience
- 58:18Speaker 4: of being hunted for sport, but you don't want to
- 58:21Speaker 4: admit it.
- 58:22Speaker 2: Wow, bad business concept probably works. Yeah, Okay, you've gotten
- 58:28Speaker 2: one wrong so far, and that's fine. Number two. This
- 58:31Speaker 2: is from a Patreon listener named Cashley. Gift or a
- 58:34Speaker 2: curse color contact lenses.
- 58:37Speaker 5: Uh, curse. I'm gonna say. I feel like, I don't know.
- 58:43Speaker 4: I feel like wearing a color contact lens makes you
- 58:45Speaker 4: look and feel so interesting, but it also does just
- 58:48Speaker 4: feel like, well, I guess it's probably a gift to
- 58:51Speaker 4: the person wearing them, because like, wow, how interesting to
- 58:54Speaker 4: imagine I have a different eye color.
- 58:55Speaker 5: But it does just feel a little like what like
- 58:58Speaker 5: a what a weird? Uh? Everyone thinks you have that
- 59:01Speaker 5: eye color.
- 59:02Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 59:03Speaker 5: That's what's strange to me.
- 59:06Speaker 4: If I met someone, I was just like, U, suge
- 59:08Speaker 4: striking eyes, and then they were like thank you, And
- 59:10Speaker 4: then over time you're like, Okay, I gotta admit.
- 59:12Speaker 3: The different I got them from an Instagram.
- 59:14Speaker 4: Yeah, unless it's like Instagram knows that you really hit
- 59:18Speaker 4: your eyes. I guess if it is a color that
- 59:20Speaker 4: it's like, that's so on, Like if it's like red eyes,
- 59:22Speaker 4: it's like, oh, that's only interesting, but also still I
- 59:25Speaker 4: think disorienting in a way.
- 59:26Speaker 2: I'm gonna say, stick with curse, correct curse. I mean,
- 59:30Speaker 2: come on, it's never worked for anybody. Yeah, it's always
- 59:34Speaker 2: it's almost always a psycho. It almost always makes you
- 59:37Speaker 2: look like you work at a vape store or something.
- 59:40Speaker 2: It doesn't.
- 59:40Speaker 3: It never looks right.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:42Speaker 2: Even if it's like basically like oh, that person would
- 59:44Speaker 2: have that color of eyes, it doesn't look right.
- 59:46Speaker 4: It feels like something in like a weird dystopian sci
- 59:49Speaker 4: fi which was just sort of like I've decided I
- 59:51Speaker 4: want purple eyes. I'm like, okay, well I don't. We
- 59:53Speaker 4: don't have to talk that long. No offense to anyone
- 59:57Speaker 4: who loves their color contacts. That's great for you. I
- 59:59Speaker 4: just the conversation will be sure.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: And the other thing is is every eye is nice looking. Yeah,
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: they're all interesting colors already. Hey, yeah, what's your don't
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: be insecure about the color of your eye, the.
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: Thing you've had since birth.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: That will like, no one's going like, oh, brown eyes
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: brown I guess probably people do, but I think at
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: a certain one you have to be like they're wrong.
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: Actually that I'm fifty three.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: Yeah, correct, curse.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: You know, if you want to change a color of something,
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: dye your hair, get a new.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: Shirt, right, wear glasses, you wear fake glasses. I think
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: I'm okay with that. Fake glasses, go for it. Yah,
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: it's an accessory, I agree, helps frame your face whatever.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: The only guy who gets to do is that guy
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: from Limp Biscuit who had the black eyes. Remember that
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: guy the basis for Limp Biscuit, that's his name. I
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: feel like we talked about him very early on in
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: this podcast, but you bring him out every episode and
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: he's like, you don't know this guy. I feel like
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: I'm always talking about him.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: I just I'm haunted by his image.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: He wore like black contacts, so it was just like
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: all pupil that kind of a cool metal look.
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: Yeah, that works for new metal.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: But if I just met him out in a bound
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: and he's wearing that, I'll be like, no, no, no, no,
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: you're off the stage right now. You take that shit off.
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: That is for music videos and for performing only.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Making everyone uncomfortable.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: Yeah, no, one likes it. Man, you look possessed, you
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: look spooky.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: Okay, okay, now you've gotten one right, So that's good.
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: And with a member of gorillas like the cartoon.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Members, oh my god. See they can wear them, they
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: can wear them, they can do whatever they want a session.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: Wise, if I'm talking to two D, if I'm in
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: the real world, I'm talking to my best friend to
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: D and he's got the contact on, I say, take
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: them out, take them.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: Out, gorillas, do whatever you want to do.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: H okay. Number three this is from Emily Gift. He
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: a curse when someone says, you already told me when
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: you're telling a story, curse, huge curse.
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: How fucking dare you let me just do it? Actually? Wait, no,
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: I cannotigate real.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: Actually this has happened before.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: I've changed my mind immediately because I think if I
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: got to the end of it and then learned that
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: they were just like, yeah, we're just humoring you. We
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: let you tell me if I've told you already, I'm yeah,
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: I came out too hot on that. Tell me if
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: I tell me, if you told me already. I don't
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: want to waste your time. I don't think it's so
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: interesting with a story that, like I need you to
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: go through it again. And also if I tell it
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: differently because I forgot a detail and now you realize like, hmm,
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: wasn't what you said last time with the liar?
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: I look, yeah, I look like an asshole. So it's
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: a gift.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Correct, it's a gift. I think a lot of people
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: have that same reaction because it is a startling thing
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: for someone to be like, I don't want to hear
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: what you're saying. Yeah, but this is it saves everybody
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: some time. We don't unless you're the greatest storyteller to
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: ever live, I don't want to hear your story another time.
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: I agree.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: What you do need, as the person who sang you
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: already told me, is you need to say that early
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: on and in a nice way say oh, you actually
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: told me this.
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: Oh wait, no, I remember you said. Yes.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: That's a way to say, oh I remember you. There
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: you go. Then you put your saying you're the problem.
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: And also it's like you say it in a way
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: where it's excited. He's like, now we can engage about it.
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: You skipped the beginning. Let's just talk about the rest.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: But you obviously can't stop talking about this boring story.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: Yeah, so let's get into it. I think it's a gift.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: It feels similar to I think my gut reaction came
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: from the feeling of like you already told me. Almost
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: feels a little like we've met before or I'm just
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: like I'm sorry, dude, like let it go.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: We've met before. Never needs to be said, no, unless
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: I guess you could say it in a nice way
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: of like there are some circumstances, but the way you're
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: currently the worst thing a person can possibly say.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the attitude of like, how dare you not remember?
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: And it's like you remember everyone you've met, Like I'm
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: I think it's if anyone ever, If I if anyone
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: ever comes up to me and doesn't remember that we
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: met before, I don't care.
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: You could be like my sibling and I'd be like,
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: that's who cares you.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: Yeah, is a bad thing. Yeah, exactly, we've met before.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: There have been times where a guy will just be
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: like I'm not getting come on, dude, we've met before.
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: What's my name? And I'm like what, I don't I think,
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: why do.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: That to himself? Yeah, that's just cementing the fact that
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: you don't know who he.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: Is, yes, And now I'm like, well, I guess I'll
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: remember you now as the guy that I don't want.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: Who's really annoying and thinks everyone knows who he is.
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Oh, meeting people, all of that is very complicated. I
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: think it's just we need to stick to how are
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: you doing?
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Nice?
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: Not even nice to see you. How's your Jacob?
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: Yeah, what's up?
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Who cares if someone's met you before, doesn't matter what
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: you got two out of three?
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: That is huge for me. That's huge. Tree.
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: I was gonna somehow guess wrong on each one. I
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: was like, it's a binary option. I'd still suck it up.
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: Fifty fifty very good. You needed the win today and
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: you got it. Well, you got a sixty six percent.
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: You needed that today and you got it. And now, Honalise,
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: our producer, has one of their own gift a curse
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: which we both have to speak to to kind of,
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: you know, level the playing field. Honalise, what is it?
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: Gift a curse when pop stars give their fans collective names,
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: for example, little monsters Orienators.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: What's an Arienator? I've never heard of the Ariana fanom
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: I've never.
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: Heard it, said, out loud, which and when you say that,
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: I was like, arians, that one's a curse.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: I'm sorry, that's what Hitler called. Yeah, ariators, Arienators, ariators.
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: I think it's it's gotta be arian. But even then,
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: I'm just like, I think, just.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: The grande heads, my little grande's yeah, my little thing.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: That's cute, petite.
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: Yeah, we fixed that for you.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Oh god, Okay, do you want to or should I
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: speak to it first?
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: I didn't you speak to first? I'm still thinking one.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: Okay, let's see. I'm going to say. I'm going to
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: say that this is a curse because it is well,
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: let me back up now, because it's nickname terror to
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: and I'm trying to think of who names who you
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: give people their nickname, they don't choose their nickname. Oh,
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: I'm but I am.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: Going to say. I'm gonna say it's a gift.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's a nice thing that
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: you get to give to the your fans. Yeah, to
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: you know, collect themselves and label themselves.
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: Oh so the fans presumably like it to be Like also,
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: I'm like, are they giving it? Are they always giving
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: it to the fans or is it like sometimes popping
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: up in the fan group.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Like the Reddit, the subreddity side. We're at the area nat.
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: Do BTS fans do they decide they're called the army?
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: Or is it like the BTS calls them the army.
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: I think it's still a gift either way. I'm like,
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: I think it's probably a nice thing to be an
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: collective group and be like, here's how we refer to ourselves,
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: and isn't that cute?
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: Right? I think that's nice. And I mean, this is
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: something that pops up for this podcast pretty frequently, listeners
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: saying what should we be called? And I just never
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: have an idea, which I guess that's a curse for me.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: Maybe it's up to them. I don't know, I curses.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: I don't like think, I don't like anything.
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the big problem.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: I've been calling them listeners for years, but I guess
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: that's not specific enough. I'll do some brainstorming. If anyone
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: has a really good idea. My secret wives, secret secret wives,
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: maybe my secret wives the bridge, okay, your bridge and
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: they're the tunnel bridge and tunnel. We'll think about it.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: We'll think about it, little monsters. I'll just rip it
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: out of Gaga's hands. Yeah, you just take it, honestly,
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: how did we do?
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: I'm sorry you guys, but they're a curse because it
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: takes something that should be an aspect of like it's
- 1:07:52Speaker 6: a thing you like, but now it's become a part
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: of who you are, and this is what divides people.
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: So suddenly you've got like the swiftye against the beehive.
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: It becomes then this like almost like tribalist ship that
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: is like very bad and should not be like you know,
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: uh explored on the internet, like we don't need any
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: more reasons to be like divided on the internet. And
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: then suddenly you were giving names to just like arbitrary
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: things like oh I happen to like a thing and therefore.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: You killed Joy?
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: What are you kidding me? And then as and as
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: a musician myself, now suddenly I have to think of
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: something like a yeah, no, it's awful.
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: It's awful.
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: No.
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: I do agree that the tribalism is insane, but in
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: my head, I'm like, that's kind of happened whether or
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: not they have a name.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Yeah, psychos are going to be psychos. Yeah, uh, And
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: on a least, you're unfortunately wrong. I don't know what
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: you're talking about. We were correct.
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: Get in the comments tunnels.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: Secret wives, get.
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: In comments, secret wives.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Of all gender, of all gender. Of course, anyone could
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: be a secret wife. That's the great thing about being alive.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: If you want to be a see wife, go for it.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: This is the final segment of the podcast. It's called
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: I Said no emails. People write into I Said no
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: gifts at gmail dot com, or they leave a voice note,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: send a voice note, which I realized is complicated, but
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: on a least, can you explain.
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: Okay, because we have not gotten enough voice notes.
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: I don't just stop doing it.
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: We have to do it. We have to do it.
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: So I'm going to go over something with you. Okay,
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: So you have this thing and it's called a phone.
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: And on the phone there's this little app and it
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: said it's called voice Memos, and you're going to click
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: on that. You're going to hit the big red button
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: at the bottom. Okay, You're going to ask a question
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: and it's going to be in a quiet space. It's
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: not going to be longer than sixty seconds. Then you're
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: going to hit that red button again. Then you're going
- 1:09:40Speaker 6: to press three little dots on the new thing that
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: you've just created. It's going to ask if you want
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: to share it, and then you're going to email it
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: to I said, no gifts at gmail dot com.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: Wonderful.
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: We gotta do it, guys and make them juicy.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: An interest secret wives, let's do this.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: If you're going to be my secret wife, you better
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: have some great voice questions. Yes, I'm tired of reading emails. No,
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: I don't mind reading emails either. Do whatever you want
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: to do. But Honiley's thank you for the directions and
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: the little patronizing rude but whatever, demy.
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: Will you help me answer a question?
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: Yes they will.
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: Okay, this is Bridger and celebrated guests. That's nice. They
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: guessed correctly.
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: They don't know that well.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: They threw a dart and they hold Yeah. I could
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: use your advice on something. It's small, but I find
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: it weirdly stressful. Question mark, my friend has been hosting
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: pool parties off and on this summer. Nothing huge, just
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: casual hangs with snacks. He doesn't provide towels. Okay, I
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: don't think that anyone needs. Okay, is that the question?
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: This is we're halfway through the thing is Hey, that's
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: what makes it casual. Sorry, Oh yeah, interesting, Well, we
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: all have a different idea of what a pool party
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: should be.
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: I guess the thing is.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: At the first one, I brought a bottle of wine,
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: and I thought that sort of covered me for the season.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: But since then, I've shown up empty handed a few times,
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: and I think he i'd have made a light comment
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: slash hint about people not bringing things. Well, well, i'd
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: like a specific whatever. So now I'm spiraling Are you
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: supposed to bring something every time? Am I reading into
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: things too much? Or is this one of those unspoken
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: rules that I should have clocked that's from Becca?
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: Huh?
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: Why just what is towels? Why doesn't that that has nothing?
- 1:11:21Speaker 4: I feel like that might just be a similar like
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: it's so non he's doing almost nothing.
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: Yeah, but I'm also just like, if I throw a
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: pool party, I'm not providing.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: How many towels does a person own?
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, bring a fucking towel.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: That's such an easy, bare minimum.
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: Uh, so not up to a great start, Becca, But
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: I also would say, I so my personal take on this,
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: and I don't I think no one else agrees, is
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: I don't need you to bring something?
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: When you ship to my ass.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: The point that actually sometimes people bring stuff, I'm like,
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: this is cumbersome. Now I just have four hundred beers
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: and no one's drinking them, and I don't drink beer really,
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: so I'm just like, so put the beer in my fridge.
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: And I'm like, no, you don't have to bring me stuff.
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: But also I think depending on how casual to hang is,
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: you absolutely shouldn't have to bring stone.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: No. If it's not casual, like what especially a pool party,
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: it's doing a bunch in a short period of time. Also, no,
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: I think the fact that Becha brought something at all
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: is she should get a key to the house at
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: this point. Yeah, she should get to drive his car.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: And the guy what is this guy? Why does he?
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: What more could he possibly want?
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm I'm i gotta know what the comment is
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: in the tone, because I'm like, was it a joke?
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: Was it like a thing of like? And also, if
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: you're spiraling, I think next time, bring something small and
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: just be sort of like, sorry, I haven't been bringing anything.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: And if they're like what, no, it's like their response
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: to that is really it's.
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: Now become a game.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: Yes, a psychological game that Becca gets to make the
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: next move. Yes, and hopefully we'll outsmart this person. But
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: there's also a chance he just doesn't like Becka's personality
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: and it's trying to just hurt her.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: But also, if Becca, if you keep getting invited, I
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: think it's maybe not that big of a deal. And
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: if it was a small comment, maybe it's like they
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: were they were being a little shit right.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: Maybe he was extremely drunk mm hm, because of that
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: wine you'd be bringing, yes, that he's been drinking all summer. Well, Beca,
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: I think you have your answer there. Buy a towel,
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: that's the get. Throw a few in your trunk and
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: you won't have to worry that gift next time. He's like,
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: I brought a couple of towels. I know you don't
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: provide towels. Yeah, that's what a great way to get
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: back it.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: Yeah, and then he'll he'll call him be like, hey,
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: so I've been throwing these pool parties and my friendmate
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: is comment about a towel.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: I'm gonna destroy both of these people's lives. Well, we
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: answered the question perfectly. Yeah, you played the game pretty well.
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: I've got a pie that I'll eat around the hair. Yeah,
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: and I also now get to wow, I had never
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: heard of this camera before. Yeah, I'm so excited to
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: see what becomes of it. Yeah, the photos, I've got it.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: When I buy a roll of film, it takes me
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: for amfer to get through it.
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: I used to be that way and now ever, so
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: it'll be like I go through a period where I'm
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: shooting so much and then I stop and I'm like, oh,
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: I'm gonna take my care.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: I've forgotten that there's like half the role used, which
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: is always so nice because I'm just like, what and
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: then you get to see.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Oh I love that face. Yeah, that's gotten memories. But
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: I'll try to power through within the next three months.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: I think that's a doable plan.
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: I wish I had loaded up with film and then
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: I'd be like, just take one now, but I did not.
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: Just take eighteen now. Yeah, it's fine, Demie. I've had
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: such a wonderful time with you here. Thank you for
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: being here. And listener. Uh, you know the podcast is over.
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: You've got to take care of yourself. You've got to
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: you know, I'm letting you out of the nest. You've
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: got to learn to fly and I believe you can
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: do that. If you can't, that's your problem. Take care
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: of yourself. I love you, goodbye, I said, No Gifts
