- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Like me,
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: are you old enough to remember the famous television commercials for
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: the brokerage firm E.F. Hutton?
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Now, recall the scene always began with a crowded restaurant or a party full of conversations.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Then someone quietly said,
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: well, my broker E.F. Hutton, and then instantly the entire room became silent.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: The commercial ended with one unforgettable line.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: When E.F. Hutton speaks, people listen.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking at bay.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: After more than 60 years in sales and leadership,
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I've learned that Biblical wisdom is the most valuable asset we can carry into
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: the marketplace.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Each time I read Proverbs,
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Scripture reveals practical insight for leadership,
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: service, and building relationships that far outlast the last transaction.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: So pour yourself a cup of your favorite brew and let's explore today's proverb together.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Today we are in Proverbs 10, verse 11, using the NKJV, the New King James.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: The mouth of the righteous is the well of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: That's Proverbs 10, verse 11, using the New King James Version.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: You know, as I mentioned in the opening that when E.F. Hutton speaks, people listen.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: I've often wondered,
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: but what if that could be said about gospel-centric customer success masters?
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Not because we're louder,
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: not because we're smarter, but because our words consistently bring life.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And I feel that that's exactly what Solomon describes in Proverbs 10, 11.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Now, he didn't say the mouth of the righteous occasionally gives life.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: He said it is a well of life.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And a well doesn't suddenly produce water when someone lowers the bucket.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Long before anyone arrived, fresh water has been quietly collecting beneath the surface.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And I suppose our words work the same way.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: What comes out of our mouths during moments
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: of pressure has usually been filling our minds and hearts long before
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: the pressure arrived.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Jesus confirmed this truth when he said,
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: quote, Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks, end quote.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Our mouths simply reveal what our minds and our hearts have been rehearsing.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And possibly that explains why two people can experience the same problem
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: and respond in completely different ways.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: One complains, the other encourages.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: One magnifies the obstacle, the other recognizes God's provision.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: The difference isn't the circumstance.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: The difference is the well.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Suppose we spill coffee on our shirt ten minutes before an important presentation.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: One response could be that, wow, man, nothing ever goes right.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: My whole day is ruined.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Possibly another person pauses and says, thank the Lord I have another shirt.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Thank the Lord I have time to change.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Thank the Lord, thank God I wasn't burned.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Same coffee.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Same shirt, different well.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Or imagine discovering a flat tire or having a flat tire on your way to work.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: The natural reaction is frustration.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: But what if we trained our minds differently?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Thank God for having a dependable car.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Thank God I renewed that roadside assistance.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Thank God I have a spare tire.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Thank God I I have one of those portable air pump that runs on batteries.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Within a short distance of where we're sitting in that car with
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: a flat tire are people praying for the opportunity to even own a reliable vehicle.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Gratitude doesn't deny the inconvenience.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: It simply refuses to let the inconvenience become the entire story.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Biblical optimism isn't pretending the problem doesn't exist.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: It's remembering that not everything is lost.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: There's always something that still works.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Urologists tell us that our brains naturally assign more attention
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: to what is missing than And what is that we already possess?
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: And if we aren't intentional,
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: our thinking becomes dominated by scarcity and disappointment and complaint.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Years ago, my life coach, Royce White, gave me some advice I'd never forgotten.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: He said, Ernie, you already have everything you need to do with what you need to do.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Utilize what you already have.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: You know, the more I read Scripture, the more I realize that that's often how God works.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: To Moses, he said, he asked, what is that in your hand?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: David already had a sling, and the widow already had a small jar of oil.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: God frequently begins with what we already possess rather than what we think we lack.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: And the Apostle Paul understood this principle clearly.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: He wrote, quote,
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: whatever is true,
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: whatever is noble,
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: whatever is right,
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: whatever is pure,
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, think about such things.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Then in Romans 12, 2, he tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Notice where transformation begins, not with our mouths, with our minds.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: A renewed mind eventually produces a renewed conversation.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Whenever an unexpected problem interrupts our day,
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: well, frankly, I've learned to pause and say three simple words.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Thank God that.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Then I intentionally name three blessings that remain.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: This isn't positive thinking.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: It's biblical thinking.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: It's training my heart to recognize God's faithfulness
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: before my mouth rehearses my frustration.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Over time, that practice fills the well.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And when life lowers the bucket during moments of stress,
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: encouragement rises instead of complaint.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Which brings us back to the old television commercial.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: When E.F. Hutton speaks, people listen.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: So imagine if your customers,
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: your co-workers, your spouse, your children, your friends felt that way about you.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Not because you always have the perfect answer,
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: but because every conversations leave them stronger,
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: wiser, and more hopeful than before.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: I believe that's what Solomon meant.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: When the righteous speak,
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: people Well,
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: thank you for joining me on this episode of Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: with Ernie.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: If this episode has been meaningful to you or adding significance to you,
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: please consider sharing it.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: That's how we influence the marketplace for God.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: We truly do.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: And remember, chasing personal success is temporal.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Adding significance to others is infinite.
