- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:11Animals don't get too hung up on raising.
- 0:15Welcome to What's your least favorite scary Movie?
- 0:17The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:19the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:21And least favorite scary movies because we believe every horror
- 0:24movie rightfully has is fanbase. Even if we don't always get my
- 0:27name is Travis. My name is Jesse.
- 0:28And welcome everybody. And we are covering a new
- 0:31release, Yayo on the podcast new for streaming.
- 0:37It just came out last week on Shudder, but it's been a release
- 0:41back in May in theaters. We're talking about in a violent
- 0:43nature today. This is one of the more exciting
- 0:48movies that have come out this year so far, and I am thrilled
- 0:53to be able to talk about it today.
- 0:54Yes, it's really exciting to be talking about a new release,
- 0:58especially something that's more on the experimental side.
- 1:02Yeah. So I'm really excited that we're
- 1:05we're able to talk about it now. I was also about to correct you
- 1:08cuz you're like, it came out last week and I was like, it
- 1:09came out yesterday, motherfucker.
- 1:11And then I realized that's we're recording it on the 14th.
- 1:15Six days from the episode drop they release it came out on
- 1:19Friday the 13th in September here so.
- 1:22Which if you're like a cool kid and follow us on social media
- 1:25then you would already know because we already posted the
- 1:28where to what? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:31All right. So before we get into this
- 1:33episode, do you have any announcements?
- 1:35Yes, our To be or Not to be bonus episode for September came
- 1:40out on Sunday and that was on actually A to be original
- 1:43Requiem for a Scream. So we talked about that.
- 1:46It was actually, it was a fun, it was a fun discussion.
- 1:51We got a little weird. I've been in kind of a weird
- 1:53mood all day. We just finished recording it,
- 1:55so I'm still in a really weird mood.
- 1:58But it was, it was fun. It was a good discussion.
- 2:00We were pretty divided on the movie itself, so I think that's
- 2:03always a little bit fun to talk about, yeah.
- 2:06It was I, I had fun with it and we had some really fun moments
- 2:10in the episode. So yeah, I I recommend checking
- 2:14that one out and. Yeah.
- 2:16Yeah, if you, if you like licking the dust of a loved one
- 2:20and assuming that it's going to be brownie batter, that's a
- 2:23that's a movie for you. Fuck man, that movie goes to
- 2:27some weird places. It does, yeah.
- 2:29All right, so it doesn't. Even acknowledge how fucking
- 2:31weird it is either. No, that's, that's another
- 2:34aspect of the weirdness. OK, so I have our poll for last
- 2:39week. We talked about the dentist,
- 2:41yes. And if you're hearing beeps, I
- 2:44turn on my iPad and I'm getting all of the text messages I had
- 2:47throughout the week. Yeah.
- 2:48Since iPad is catching up to all of the news.
- 2:50OK, so let's start off on Twitter, OK?
- 2:53And the question was how your teeth look.
- 2:57How how pristine? Yeah, how are your chompers?
- 3:00So the options are pristine or fucked.
- 3:03Which is the title of my sophomore punk album.
- 3:06Pristine or fucked? Yeah.
- 3:08All right. So on Instagram, 33% are
- 3:11pristine, while 67% are fucked. OK.
- 3:15And on Twitter, 29% are pristine while 71% are fucked.
- 3:20OK. I am very much in the fucked
- 3:23camp. My my teeth will never be
- 3:25pristine. I was never.
- 3:27I was born with the curse of having fucked up teeth, and I'll
- 3:29die that way. I as of right now don't have any
- 3:33cavities. I've got a couple of the shadow
- 3:35spots that were mentioned last week but nothing that needs like
- 3:38filling or anything at this point.
- 3:40I have a little bit of an overbite but I think it's more
- 3:42like cute and quirky than anything.
- 3:43It's good it didn't need any orthodontic.
- 3:45Jesse, you're pristine as fucked.
- 3:48Pristine. As fucked.
- 3:49I don't, Yeah. You've never had a cavity?
- 3:52I don't think the entire time I've known you.
- 3:54No. Yeah, that's fucking weird.
- 3:58I floss two or three times a day, motherfucker.
- 4:01Exactly. You, You.
- 4:03You put in the effort. I keep you're.
- 4:04Flossing in my drawer at work like after lunch I'm like in my
- 4:07office like. We are like two sides of the
- 4:11coin right here when it comes to this.
- 4:13Well, some of it's also like just genetics too.
- 4:15Like sometimes you can take the best care of your teeth and it
- 4:17doesn't make a difference. That's true.
- 4:19That's part of why my teeth are fucked.
- 4:21I want to know more about that. Listen to our episode on the
- 4:22dentist. Yeah.
- 4:23And also watch the Dentist. A lot of people were like, I
- 4:26don't really know this movie. I don't remember this movie.
- 4:28Get familiar with it. Yeah.
- 4:30It's a good time. It's Brian Gesner.
- 4:33He does not disappoint. No.
- 4:35All right, so that's it for a poll.
- 4:37All right, so I'll be ready to talk about In a Violent nature
- 4:40I'm. So fucking ready.
- 4:42In a Violent Nature originally premiered January 22nd, 2024 at
- 4:49the Sundance Film Festival. OH.
- 4:51Shit, which Louisville got cut from the last round?
- 4:56Yeah, but Cincinnati's still in the top three, so that's still
- 4:59really close. Yeah, we almost had sundancing.
- 5:02We. Almost had Sundance.
- 5:03We're we're part of like a little film group here in the
- 5:07Lexington area. And yeah, it almost happened.
- 5:10But almost happened. But Cincinnati's still really
- 5:12close. So like, as much as it pains me
- 5:14to root for Ohio, still gonna do it.
- 5:17Since since he's close. Yeah, Cincinnati saved Talia's
- 5:20life, and I just have to remind myself that a.
- 5:21Lot yeah all right so premiered there wide release was May 31st
- 5:262024 this year and the streaming release another three release
- 5:31episode here Yeah it came out last week.
- 5:35September. 13th September 13th Friday the 13th.
- 5:39Very appropriate for this very year.
- 5:41Absolutely. We did a little double feature
- 5:43of this and Friday the 13th Jason goes to hell.
- 5:49Yeah. Underrated.
- 5:51As the ward intended, all right, And that was on Shutter, which
- 5:55is where we watched this movie because it went straight to
- 5:57Shutter. They have the distribution
- 5:59rights for this right here daddy.
- 6:00Shutter Yeah, We're pushing you. We're pushing you, Daddy.
- 6:04So you can also rent it on Amazon, Apple, YouTube or
- 6:08Fandango at home if you choose to do so.
- 6:10It's like a $6 rental. But like we said on last week's
- 6:13on our Tubi or not to be the subscription for a month of
- 6:17shutter is 699. So just why not do that and get
- 6:20all kinds of movies for a month? Yeah, it's the same cost to rent
- 6:24this single movie as it is for a month of Shutter.
- 6:27And Shutter will give you like a lot of really interesting movie
- 6:31options. Some are very well known, some
- 6:32are maybe less known, some are maybe like Shutter exclusives.
- 6:35And again, if you listened to our Tubi or Not to be a bonus
- 6:38episode, we talked about a lot of movies that are Shutter
- 6:41exclusive, such as Deadstream and Let's Get a Marie Ink.
- 6:44And this month actually, there's another hyped up Shutter
- 6:48exclusive movie that had release that came out.
- 6:50It's oddity that's coming out this month, yeah.
- 6:53Yeah, I've been. Looking forward to being able to
- 6:55watch that. We missed it in theaters, so
- 6:57it's going to be exciting to be able to see it and shooting.
- 6:58So more reason. There we go.
- 7:00So all right, we are talking about a movie written and
- 7:05directed by Chris Nash today. OK.
- 7:07All right. Music for this for first.
- 7:11I think on the show we have nobody, although you said that
- 7:15last. Yeah, I was going to be first on
- 7:17the main show. I was really.
- 7:18Excited a couple of times on like to be or not to be?
- 7:21Has it? Yeah.
- 7:22I was really excited about that for this one because I was like
- 7:25for like, I mean, for some, I don't have a composer because
- 7:28this song has no music. It has one bit of diegetic
- 7:31music. That's about it.
- 7:33Which is honestly one of my favorite parts of the movie.
- 7:35One of my favorite like touches. It's really cool.
- 7:38Yeah. Special effects makeup Mike
- 7:40Hamilton. Got an interesting little note
- 7:43about Mike Hamilton. I've actually learned this from
- 7:47discussing the movie after he dropped his review with Q Saves
- 7:50on Instagram. He mentioned that that's the
- 7:52same dude that did the effects for Psycho Gore Man.
- 7:56Oh. Shit, really?
- 7:57So if you're watching this movie and wondering, Dan, this movie
- 7:59looks fucking phenomenal with its effects.
- 8:01And that's why that guy is like a fucking master at his craft,
- 8:05all right? He made the little brain kid in
- 8:08Psycho Gorman who I feel sorry for whenever I watch that, but
- 8:11it looks awesome. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:14Yeah, All right. So starring Rye Barrett as
- 8:18Johnny, Andrea Pavlovic as Chris, Cameron Love as Colt,
- 8:24Reece Presley as the Ranger, Liam Leone as Troy, Charlotte
- 8:29Cregan as Aurora, Leah Rose Sebastian as Brody, Sam Rolson
- 8:37as Aaron Alexander, Oliver as Evan, Timothy, Paul McCarthy Not
- 8:41Paul McCartney, Timothy Paul McCarthy as Chuck, Tom Jacobs as
- 8:48Johnny's dad, and Lauren Marie Taylor as the woman.
- 8:53OK. Who by the way, I don't know if
- 8:56you knew this. I were in this while doing
- 8:58research. She is Vicki from Friday the
- 9:0213th, Part 2. Oh, really?
- 9:05Oh, actually, no, no, no. The woman, the driver.
- 9:08Is that what you mean? OK, Yeah.
- 9:10No, I didn't know that. And if anybody's wondering who
- 9:13Vicki is in Friday the 13th, I can tell you the only thing I
- 9:16really remember her character from is she is trying to hit on
- 9:20the guy in the wheelchair and she sprays perfume in her
- 9:23panties. Yeah, and that's.
- 9:26The recipe for yeast infection. That's the only thing I could
- 9:29tell you about the character right there.
- 9:31But she was also in a Friday the 13th, which is appropriate for
- 9:33this movie. Absolutely.
- 9:35Yeah. No, I remember reading that
- 9:37shortly after we watched the movie in theaters, Which, side
- 9:40note, maybe we'll tell the story at some point.
- 9:42That was a fucking nightmare because of this old man in the
- 9:45row in front of us. Not because he was old, but
- 9:47because he just doesn't know how to function in public.
- 9:49Let's just go ahead and get that out now because, you know, yeah.
- 9:52So this man, we arrived to the theater and this 17 year old
- 9:58working his part time weekend job for 7/25 an hour is has
- 10:04clearly been listening to this guy go on for a while because
- 10:06he's like, well, OK, so if the movie starts at 3:50 and you're
- 10:12all's credits go on your trailers go on for about 30 to
- 10:1545 minutes beforehand, then it's not too late for me to go.
- 10:18The movie starts at 4:50. It is 445 right now.
- 10:22You could tell he's dying inside talking.
- 10:24Yeah, and he's just like going on and on and on.
- 10:25And we're standing there and then the man looks at us.
- 10:27He goes, oh, do you guys have your tickets?
- 10:28You can go ahead and go through. The old man says this.
- 10:31And Travis is like, I swear to God, if this guy's in our
- 10:33theater. No, I looked at Jesse as like, I
- 10:35know. Like I knew that guy was giving
- 10:37shit. And I was like, that guy's gonna
- 10:38be in our movie. I fucking know it.
- 10:40So he's in the row in front of us, which is like a tear down.
- 10:45It's kind of the way the regal stuff is.
- 10:48He's like in the row where you have to look directly up at the.
- 10:51Screen Yeah, yeah, yeah so the whole time he's there he's
- 10:56asking his wife questions very loudly his wife, her phone keeps
- 11:00going off not very loudly, but like still loudly enough that we
- 11:03can hear it and she's. Also browsing on the phone the
- 11:05entire. Time.
- 11:05It's kind of like how Travis''s iPad was dinging.
- 11:08That's kind of what her phone was doing.
- 11:09Yeah. So.
- 11:10And she's like browsing on it, maybe trying to look up his
- 11:11questions. I don't know.
- 11:14And it's just going on and on and on.
- 11:16And we get to like maybe halfway through the movie when Travis is
- 11:18like over it and he gets up and he goes over and he asks his
- 11:21man. He's like, hey, you guys are
- 11:23being really loud. Could you maybe be a little bit
- 11:25more quiet? And that works for a little bit.
- 11:26He said a little bit more politely than I did.
- 11:29I went over to him. I was like, can you please stop?
- 11:32That's the. That's the play.
- 11:34Yeah, I was like, like, can you please stop?
- 11:36I never actually asked you what you said.
- 11:37I saw it very sternly, like, can you, like, can you, like, stop?
- 11:40Like we're watching a movie. Yeah.
- 11:42I was just like telling him like, look man, like put this
- 11:45shit. Aside right now, yeah.
- 11:46You're in. You're being a We live.
- 11:47In a society, so he. He like, yeah, yeah, he like
- 11:51hand waved me away. It's like, all right, fine.
- 11:53So all's good for about 15 or so minutes and then he decides then
- 11:57he needs to throw away his notches right then and there
- 11:59instead of at the end of the movie like anybody else does.
- 12:01And he hasn't eaten but maybe one or two of his tortilla
- 12:04chips. So he stands up and he's got,
- 12:06you know, that little cheap plastic thing with a very hard
- 12:09ass tuxedo round nachos and he is shaking.
- 12:13So the whole every time he's standing up and he's going and
- 12:16he's trying to step over people's legs, which is weird
- 12:18because it's regal and there's plenty of walking room.
- 12:21There was no need to make anybody move.
- 12:24And like all of these kids that are in the same row as him, I
- 12:27say kids, they're probably like close to our age.
- 12:31They're very annoyed by him. And he walks through.
- 12:34He gets towards like the ramp leading out of the theater.
- 12:37He sets his notches on the ground and at this point Travis
- 12:40and I looked at each other were like, is this motherfucker
- 12:42serious? What the fuck is he doing?
- 12:44Yeah, we're. Like is he leaving that there
- 12:46for some other poor minimum wage teenager working here on the
- 12:50weekend to have to clean up? And he walks back.
- 12:52No, he forgot his drink. Yeah, so he goes back to get his
- 12:55drink and then he walks back. This.
- 12:57Again. And this time we're here in the
- 12:58ice, rattling in the cup, and he disappears and we're like, well,
- 13:01OK, maybe he'll at least be gone for a little while.
- 13:04And he comes back. And at this point, because he's
- 13:06missed so much fucking shit, he's asking his wife what's
- 13:09going on. And she's Googling this shit
- 13:10because she wasn't paying goddamn attention.
- 13:13And then at the end of the movie, he's got everybody in the
- 13:16row looking for something under their seats.
- 13:19I don't know what it is, but he's got his phone flashlight
- 13:22out and they're all looking. And we get out.
- 13:24And as we're in the car on the way home, and I was like, what
- 13:26the fuck were they looking for? Was he there with his his
- 13:28grandkids because they were helping him look and Travis is
- 13:30like no, because two of those guys were in the year old nose
- 13:33next to me afterwards and they were complaining about.
- 13:36That they were laughing about him.
- 13:38Yeah, if I were, I can't believe they put up with this shit.
- 13:40As long as they did and didn't say anything.
- 13:43I can't believe I was the one to fucking like go over there and
- 13:46say something to him because he was like he was.
- 13:48There was. A decent.
- 13:49Space. Between us, me, I would have
- 13:50been like. Yeah, it would have been.
- 13:54I would not have been calm. So yeah.
- 13:55So that was our experience watching in a violent nature in
- 13:57the theaters. It still doesn't take away from
- 13:59how amazing the movie was, but also that old man is
- 14:02inextricably tied to this movie. All right.
- 14:04So that's all we're going to say on that.
- 14:06Yes. But I will say well.
- 14:07That's the whole. Thing, this is the entire this
- 14:10type of movie, much like a Quiet Place is terrible for people
- 14:13like that. So I was, that was one of the
- 14:15main reasons why I was terrified to go see this thing in
- 14:17theaters, because I'm if there's any bit of obnoxiousness going
- 14:21on there gonna ruin the experience.
- 14:23And there was, of course, that's how it goes.
- 14:26But it did not really ruin it for me.
- 14:29I still had a great time. Yeah, it was still pretty easy
- 14:31to be very immersed in it. Yeah.
- 14:33All right, so time for our favorite game on this show.
- 14:37Budget or? Budget.
- 14:40And. On the main feed, I feel like we
- 14:42need to say this again, yes, but we had somebody recently ask
- 14:46what this is and we need to refresh everybody just every now
- 14:50and then what budget or bug sets means what it stands for.
- 14:54So budgets is a higher budget 10 million or higher for their
- 15:00movie? That's what we consider a high
- 15:01budget. That's what our threshold is.
- 15:02Bug Ted is anything below that and.
- 15:05Then, and it came from a review we read for a movie, I want to
- 15:09say it's like a year, year and a half ago.
- 15:11We cannot remember the exact episode, if any.
- 15:13It's been like a two year thing at this point.
- 15:16OK, time is a construct. If anybody remembers which
- 15:19episode it was exactly, please let us know.
- 15:22But what happened was we were reading a review and somebody
- 15:25like typoed in the review saying this was clearly low bug Ted.
- 15:28And we fucking loved that cuz we're like no, it's perfect
- 15:31because you didn't even have the budget to get the letters
- 15:33correct. Like it was amazing for us.
- 15:35I'm AI am terrible for my like auto corrects and misspellings
- 15:39and stuff and text messages. So it's really extra hilarious
- 15:42for. Us it was just a funny thing.
- 15:44It's a running joke on the show for everybody here that was and
- 15:47so, but for new people, we need to, you know, you new people, we
- 15:51need to keep you all and on the jokes, so.
- 15:53Yeah, somebody asked. So we wanted to reiterate that
- 15:56in this episode. We don't want to do it every
- 15:58single time because that gets old, but.
- 15:59We refresh it every like every few months or so.
- 16:02We need to let everybody know cuz we you know who knows who
- 16:05jumps in where? Exactly.
- 16:06And we appreciate you guys being here.
- 16:08Thank you so much. So if you ever have questions
- 16:11about shit like that, yeah don't hesitate to ask cuz I'll be
- 16:14happy to expand on anything about yes, anything of this
- 16:17that's confusing cuz. For sure.
- 16:19And I like we listen to podcasts ourselves, Yeah.
- 16:23So we totally get the whole like being really excited to find out
- 16:26what like the inside joke means. Everybody wants to.
- 16:28Be in there. Yeah.
- 16:29When you jump into a podcast later on, and especially
- 16:31something like this that you don't have to listen to in
- 16:33order, it's always really fun when you go through the back
- 16:35catalog and you're like, oh, that's where the thing comes
- 16:38from. Also, it's not even a word, so
- 16:40there's a no but. There's also that, but that's
- 16:42what I mean. OK, OK, let's let's motor on.
- 16:45I'm so Ted, OK. It's low budget for sure.
- 16:47It is low budget, but I don't know the budget.
- 16:49They don't have it. Listed that's how low budget it.
- 16:51Is kind of a trend I've noticed here lately with a lot of movies
- 16:55that have come out and they don't want to reveal what the
- 16:57budget is, which I don't, you know, obviously.
- 16:59If you're a lower budget, a budget like.
- 17:01Tell me, man, that makes it more impressive, yeah.
- 17:04Absolutely. I got some interesting stuff
- 17:06about that. I'm very excited to hear it and
- 17:09you were writing a lot because we were getting our background
- 17:11info for this and the Tubi stuff at the same time and you were
- 17:14just like going and going and going.
- 17:16I watched like half of Mockingjay Part 1 like you were
- 17:19doing this. Yeah, I really watched it down
- 17:21here. I mean, a lot of it's like the
- 17:22same stuff, but I got some stuff to go over here today.
- 17:25So OK, I don't have that, but I do have the box office
- 17:28information. OK, so the open box office for
- 17:31this was 2 million? Hell yeah.
- 17:35Yeah, it did good. And we did our part.
- 17:37We were there day one. Yes.
- 17:38Yeah, we did. Absolutely.
- 17:39We were very excited to be there and show up for.
- 17:42It worldwide gross four and a half million.
- 17:45Fuck yeah. That is so exciting for a movie
- 17:47this size. Yeah.
- 17:48Honestly, yeah. It's a very limited release.
- 17:50It's a low budget movie and it's a very, it's a very neat type of
- 17:57movie. You know what I mean?
- 17:59That's what whenever I went to the theater, I was also like, if
- 18:01you're gonna go to see this movie, you're gonna be really
- 18:03interested in the concept, which apparently isn't really the case
- 18:07because we had that guy there. But you know, Nacho man
- 18:10generally Nacho Nacho Nacho man. Nacho man, Randy Apachis, either
- 18:18one. Yeah, no.
- 18:19So, and here's the thing too, is that if you are lucky enough to
- 18:22be near a theater and it shows a release like this, like we're in
- 18:27a larger city and we tend to keep these kind of niche
- 18:30releases longer so we can kind of wait it out.
- 18:34But I know like my mom, for example, she has to drive to
- 18:37like the next biggest city. And even then, sometimes it's
- 18:40only there for a weekend. So if there's a movie that
- 18:42you're interested in and it's like a smaller thing like this,
- 18:45definitely, if you have the time and the means to do so, go
- 18:49support it in theater for sure. Well, but at the same time, if
- 18:53you hate the theater experience, I get that.
- 18:55Yeah. No, we totally get it.
- 18:56That's part of what I mean by the means, like if you're, yeah,
- 19:00like a theater person in general.
- 19:01It's the times have changed and you don't you don't need no
- 19:05theater no more. COVID helped with that big time.
- 19:07Yeah well, and it also hurt the theater experience cuz people
- 19:10just forgot how to behave in public.
- 19:11That's also true. All right IMDb for this gonna
- 19:16say rude 5.6 What? The fuck?
- 19:20But I get it, hold on, because it's a very divisive movie.
- 19:25I get that it's divisive, but I don't think it should be as
- 19:27divisive as it is. But whatever, we'll talk about
- 19:29it shortly. OK, we'll talk about it shortly.
- 19:31I have a lot of opinions. All right, so I've got a theme,
- 19:34OK, to go along with this movie here.
- 19:36I'm very excited for your theme because I know my theme was
- 19:39boring as fuck for Tubi. Well, this one's even more
- 19:42difficult because I'm dealing with an incomplete year.
- 19:45That's true. There are movies that I wanted
- 19:47to include but I wasn't able to because I've not been able to
- 19:49see it in this I'm terrified with.
- 19:50Re in here. I wanted to so badly, but I
- 19:53can't, yeah. Could you put speak No.
- 19:55Evil. We're still in the middle of
- 19:56that opening weekend. I did.
- 19:58I did not chop chop chop. So everybody knows what I'm
- 20:02referencing with that. I had to.
- 20:04I remembered it was audio only this time instead of visual.
- 20:07So I'm very proud of myself, all right?
- 20:08So the theme we're doing familiar premises with a fresh
- 20:17spin. So then speak, no evil is in
- 20:20this list. No.
- 20:21Just kidding, it's not a fresh spin.
- 20:22No, but I just thought it was funny.
- 20:24No familiar premise. But the familiar premise with
- 20:27this inner violent nature very much bars a lot heavily from
- 20:31Friday the 30. 2 for sure. So the first movie I have here
- 20:35is Maxine. Okay, okay, so it's very like
- 20:39the 80s grainy, nasty also slash Yolo.
- 20:44Yeah, with the Jolinus, with the Thai WA 24 iness of it all.
- 20:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's what we got there.
- 20:50We got like a Neo version of that shit right there, yes.
- 20:53So Maxine came out July 5th, 2024.
- 20:57It did have a budget surprisingly, but I don't know
- 21:00if I trust this OK because it says estimated.
- 21:04It always says that, but whenever I see this budget, I
- 21:07don't think that this is what they would have given it's
- 21:091,000,000. It feels like it was bigger than
- 21:13$1,000,000. I mean, they had Kevin fucking
- 21:15Bacon in it. Yeah, but he is also at that
- 21:18point in his career where he want, maybe he's doing shit that
- 21:21he wants to do. I know, but still.
- 21:23Like it's Kevin Bacon and they had Giancarlo Esposito.
- 21:27Again, he probably is like give me something other than the
- 21:30fucking bad drug guy. Except except.
- 21:35OK. He's always slightly against
- 21:37stipend it. Just, but he's not like a drug
- 21:40guy, he's not like a fucking like cartel guy.
- 21:42He's just like a scummy guy in an entirely different way, which
- 21:44is I'm sure is fresh for him. Well, whatever, we'll talk about
- 21:47it eventually. We got to talk about Pearl
- 21:49first. Yeah, sorry.
- 21:49Travis, it's gotta happen. That's fine.
- 21:51This is gonna happen. All right.
- 21:52So the gross for that, it did pretty good, 21 million.
- 21:57OK, OK. I'm glad to see Maxine succeed.
- 22:00I'm glad that this has been a topic of conversation, and I'm
- 22:03glad that people really like Miyagoth's acting chops.
- 22:06You know, I guess another theme for this whole thing of movies
- 22:09is like divisive. It could be, but the Maxine is
- 22:13very divisive. Also.
- 22:14I work with a lot of people that did not like it and I had a
- 22:18great time with it, but you know, it hit the beats that I
- 22:21liked, yes. So the IMDb though seems pretty
- 22:25+6.4. Fuck yeah.
- 22:27Yeah, pretty good. Big fan of magazine.
- 22:30Yeah, all right. Movie #2 long legs.
- 22:34Also a big fan of. Surprisingly, I ended up being
- 22:37the bigger fan of long legs than you.
- 22:40Yeah, I guess so, yeah. And I was super hyped for it.
- 22:42Yeah. So I guess like that one right
- 22:44there. I think that's like a fresh spin
- 22:46on the like the crime thrillers where it's like a serial killer
- 22:52type shit. Like very like.
- 22:54Procedural. Like seven.
- 22:55Yeah, yeah, it's a, it's like a very sorry.
- 22:59Like what? It's A7 in.
- 23:01Thank you. Yeah.
- 23:02And you know, you throw in a little bit in a cage and then
- 23:05you get real weird with it. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:07Yeah. To be clear, I did like the
- 23:09movie. Yeah.
- 23:10I just have problems with. It yeah and I, no, it's just
- 23:13funny that we came away from it cuz you were so hyped to see it
- 23:16and we came away from it and afterwards I was like I really
- 23:18enjoyed it and you're like I have some thoughts yeah.
- 23:22But it's so. Cool.
- 23:22Yeah, yeah, Yeah. No, it's very cool.
- 23:24And we've had a lot of really good discussions about it, and I
- 23:26can't wait to be able to cover it on the show because I think
- 23:28it's gonna be a really interesting conversation for us.
- 23:30We will. Alright, so that released July
- 23:3212th, like a week later after Maxine.
- 23:34And we did watch them back-to-back in theaters.
- 23:37So the budget on that don't have that, they were private with
- 23:40that, but the gross for this thing 104 million.
- 23:44Fuck yeah dude that got so much like weird hype around it and.
- 23:49Everybody's. Yeah, And everybody's like, oh,
- 23:51it's Perkins. He's Anthony Perkins, son.
- 23:53I'm like, he's also in Legally Blonde.
- 23:56So that's what everybody really needs to know.
- 23:59That's. The most notable thing about his
- 24:01career? Yeah, no, there's a lot of
- 24:03interesting things to say about that movie and I'm very excited
- 24:06to talk about it eventually. But definitely if you get the
- 24:08chance to watch it, watch it yourself, make up your own mind
- 24:11about it and just is go into it without any expectations.
- 24:16Yes, OK, other than nick cages in it and you need to be aware
- 24:18of that. Do with that information where
- 24:20you will. Yeah, but everybody knew that
- 24:22going into it. All right, so IMDb 6.8.
- 24:25Yes. I'm good with that.
- 24:27Retweet. I'm good with that.
- 24:29Yeah. All right.
- 24:30Very. Tweet.
- 24:31Tweet. Like Twitter.
- 24:32Yeah. All right, movie three.
- 24:33OK, all right, this is a stretch, but you know what?
- 24:37I think it still fits. OK.
- 24:39The Strangers, Chapter 1. Oh, that fits your divisive.
- 24:44If it's a divisive but also familiar, yeah premise with a
- 24:49new interesting spin. They took the movie from the
- 24:52first one and they they're like, interesting in a way.
- 24:55I'm not saying interesting and like, oh, intriguing.
- 24:58It's interesting. Like, why did you guys decide
- 25:00this? Yeah, I'm interested in why this
- 25:03was the decision. But why?
- 25:05Yeah, so again, for those that did not know, The Strangers
- 25:08Chapter 1 is a remake on the original The Strangers movie
- 25:12that came out in 2008. I had to remind a Co worker of
- 25:15this this week. Yeah, and they were shocked
- 25:18about that. I'm like that movie has been out
- 25:20for a month. You should know this by now.
- 25:22It. Is a surprise.
- 25:23But nobody knew so and. If you want to hear our full
- 25:27thoughts on it. We did a Patreon.
- 25:29Yeah, we did a Patreon bonus episode, so if you want to like
- 25:32for our full thoughts. By the way, we that was just.
- 25:34We did our goodbye to blame absurd, Yeah.
- 25:37So if you want to hear those thoughts on it, you can
- 25:39subscribe to our Patreon budgets here.
- 25:42Yeah, it'll. Start a month.
- 25:43Eventually, we're going to cover the entire franchise at some.
- 25:46Point for sure, we're waiting to see hopefully chapter 2 comes
- 25:49out. We're actually talking about
- 25:51this today, like we haven't heard any other buzz about
- 25:53Chapter 2 coming out. And it's like now that we've got
- 25:56the remake of Part 1 done, I want to see what else they do
- 26:00with the story. And they've already filmed the
- 26:02second part, so there's no reason to not release it besides
- 26:05tax write. Offs filmed all of them.
- 26:07That's the only. Thing I've filmed even more
- 26:08reason all. Right, let's scoot along.
- 26:10OK, we're talking about these other movies too much.
- 26:12So in the weeds. May 17th 2024 was the release.
- 26:16Don't have to budget on that worldwide gross though. 47
- 26:18million. So it's still made a good bit of
- 26:20money, so they have no reason to not release them.
- 26:23That's funny too, because we watched that in theaters like I
- 26:25think that weekend, and then we watched it of Violent Nature the
- 26:28next weekend, and then we talked about Mexian and Long Legs and
- 26:34those are back-to-back weekends. Yeah, it's been a busy summer
- 26:37for us. It's it started out lackluster.
- 26:40I was like, I don't know how I feel about this year for horror,
- 26:42but as we're going on, I'm like, you know, I'm kind of liking
- 26:44this year. We didn't.
- 26:45Even have a horror movie for my birthday, I do not count that
- 26:48swimming pool movie. It doesn't count.
- 26:50It's terrible. It does count.
- 26:52Though it doesn't count no cuz we saw the Mean Girls musical
- 26:55and said. OK, so that IMDb score is 4.6 so
- 26:59people were not thrilled about it.
- 27:01They needed to. They needed to make it seem more
- 27:04like a remake. If I'd known that going in, I
- 27:06would have been a lot less upset.
- 27:07That's why I'm a little bit more forgiving.
- 27:10Which leads us to our tagline section.
- 27:13Yay. Which we have one tagline and I
- 27:16fucking love it. Nature is unforgiving.
- 27:20Nice. I fucking love that.
- 27:22Are you kidding me? That is good.
- 27:23That was. Really, Darwin could have
- 27:25written that shit, you know what I mean?
- 27:26Yeah, they nailed it with that. They're like no more tagline.
- 27:30Scenes, yeah. They're like, that's it, that's
- 27:32it. Yeah, OK, so let's get into some
- 27:34fun facts. All right, so a lot of the same
- 27:39crew from Steve Kastanski's little film called Psycho Gorman
- 27:45actually was brought over to work on this film too.
- 27:47OK, so. Including Mike Hamilton, Yeah.
- 27:52Notably, as we discussed, he did the effects here, but a lot of
- 27:56the crew, just like they had all those people there, that's cool.
- 27:59And they were expecting a lot of pushback with their decisions
- 28:05with this movie. Really.
- 28:06Well, can you blame them? Like which decisions?
- 28:10All right, yeah, All right. So the first one was they really
- 28:14wanted to have this shot in like the four by three aspect ratio.
- 28:18OK, which I love. Yes.
- 28:20The reason he wanted to do that, he wanted this to emulate his
- 28:23experience with watching these slashers back in the day.
- 28:27He wanted it to be like when he was watching Friday the 13th and
- 28:30he said like, we didn't watch these in widescreen 4K, We
- 28:33watched them on like these shitty CRTTVS with.
- 28:36PCRS, absolutely. This is not the type of movie
- 28:38you want to see in widescreen. You don't.
- 28:40And like the part of that too is because it was so much of A
- 28:42focus on a killer, like a lone killer in the woods.
- 28:45Why do we need the widescreen for that?
- 28:47We don't. Well, I mean, that doesn't hurt
- 28:49it, but I like the creative decision.
- 28:51Yeah. And they did shoot it with
- 28:54widescreen, but they did have the frame on there.
- 28:56That way they they knew that they got their shot in that
- 29:00aspect ratio, but they shot it in widescreen as a backup in
- 29:03case they got pushed back on it. Yeah.
- 29:05And that that really makes sense because there are a lot of shows
- 29:09like for example, Buffy the Vampire Slayer that were shot in
- 29:12that kind of an aspect ratio and then later were re released on
- 29:16like a wide screen ratio. And it fucks up some of the
- 29:19things you see like you see things you're not supposed to
- 29:22because 90. Percent of like TV back in the
- 29:26day and like that was like every show was shot like that.
- 29:28It all gets blown on. Yeah.
- 29:29So I think it's smart that they did.
- 29:32They shot it in wide screen, but had the frame for the four by
- 29:34three. So that way they knew they were
- 29:36getting what they wanted both ways.
- 29:38Yeah, it was a really good decision.
- 29:39They also thought that they would get a lot of pushback on
- 29:42there being no sound, no or not sound, but no score for this, no
- 29:48music. And they were like, we expected
- 29:51everybody to just not be on board with any of this shit.
- 29:54But they were like, anytime that they had a weird creative
- 29:58decision for the movie and they're like, yeah, that's cool.
- 30:00Do what you think is right for this.
- 30:02And they attributed it to the cloud that they had with Psycho
- 30:06Gorman because they're like, well, they know that we got a
- 30:08crew here. We're going to be able to get
- 30:10this thing done. And we have a vision we're going
- 30:13to be able to do it in a well made way.
- 30:15And again, I wish more movies would make a bold decision like
- 30:19that because you mentioned A Quiet Place earlier and I fully
- 30:23expected that movie to be a lot fucking quieter, but there was
- 30:26so much like ambient music in it that it kind of ruined it for me
- 30:31personally. I remember it being incredibly
- 30:33quiet. No, I remember a lot of ambient
- 30:36music, so I was like, why? And it's the same thing.
- 30:40I get I'm in the minority with this, but there's an episode in
- 30:43Season 4 of Buffy called Hush and it's the same kind of thing.
- 30:48There's a lot of fucking ambient music playing.
- 30:51I know I've pronounced that two different ways.
- 30:52It's fine. And it just, it distracts for me
- 30:56because the whole point is everything supposed to be
- 30:58fucking quiet. And I get that.
- 31:01Having the ambient music can also help with like some of the
- 31:03stuff that goes along when you're filming, you know what I
- 31:05mean? Like because there's a lot of
- 31:06sounds that are just made by, you know, existing.
- 31:09So I get that purpose of it. But I like that this movie made
- 31:12this decision and we're hearing like the rustling of the leaves
- 31:15and the crackling of sticks and the fire, like popping.
- 31:19Like, I like those decisions and I think it works really well for
- 31:23this movie. I agree and I'm we're going to
- 31:25get into that when we talk. About.
- 31:27So they had to reshoot 70% of this movie holy.
- 31:31Shit. Yeah.
- 31:32So, OK, here's the breakdown of what happened.
- 31:34So they did four weeks of shooting and they were in an
- 31:39entirely different location when they were shooting this with a
- 31:42completely different lead for Johnny.
- 31:45So the actor who played Johnny had a medical issue arise a week
- 31:49and 1/2 in the filming. Holy.
- 31:51Shit. And he had to leave the project.
- 31:54Oh my God, I had. Some hat for him.
- 31:56Yeah, it sucks because, I mean, obviously this movie ended up
- 31:59being what it is. And, you know, he kind of missed
- 32:02his chance. But, yeah, So they decided this
- 32:07actually became, like, a little blessing in disguise for them
- 32:11because Chris Nash wanted this to be in his hometown from the
- 32:16beginning. And he wasn't liking the vibe of
- 32:21where they were originally shooting.
- 32:22He said the trees were completely different.
- 32:24It gave off a very uncanny feel, and it didn't really suit what
- 32:29he had envisioned. He had always pictured it being
- 32:31back and where he grew up. Yeah.
- 32:33So they were like, OK, let's do this.
- 32:37We're going to reshoot most of this movie anyways.
- 32:39Let's take it there. Now.
- 32:41He like rallied everybody there. Surprisingly, all the crew was
- 32:44on board and surprisingly all the casts maintained too.
- 32:48Something about him, though, if he can rally his crew that way,
- 32:51yeah, that says something about his leadership style.
- 32:54Yeah, it's true. So they completely did a whole
- 32:57race shoot like 70% of it. Holy shit.
- 33:00In Algoma, Canada, This is a Canadian movie.
- 33:04We're Canadian. So yeah, there is one shot from
- 33:10the original film that is still in there.
- 33:12It's a five to second shot. And he said it was the most
- 33:16expensive shot in the entire film.
- 33:18Did not clarify any further. I have thoughts that it has to
- 33:24do with the hook to the head. I was gonna say.
- 33:28The Yolo. Yeah, because I think it also
- 33:31had to do with like pushing her down the mountain, like.
- 33:34That hill, yeah, cuz I was gonna say we don't really see any
- 33:36other kind of the landscape like that.
- 33:38And also I have to imagine at least from like an effects point
- 33:42between like making her Gumby yeah and then also shooting the
- 33:47body rolling down the hill. That had to have been expensive.
- 33:50Which about that kill, they were trying to think about something
- 33:54new that hadn't been done before.
- 33:56So they're like, what is unique to Johnny's tool set?
- 34:01And like he's got 2 hooks, So what can you do with two hooks?
- 34:04And then they like, that's where the whole ball got started and
- 34:09they ran with it from there. And boy howdy, that's one of the
- 34:12most creative killers I've seen in a long, long time.
- 34:15It is God, that's just it sticks with you.
- 34:20And like, honestly, if you're not a gore person, I get how it
- 34:24would be upsetting. But if you are a gore person or
- 34:27a whore person or horror, horror, horror, horror, horror
- 34:32person, then this is like it sticks with you because you're
- 34:36just like, this is so fucking intense and it's like you think
- 34:41about iconic kills in recent history.
- 34:44It's that and it's. How about?
- 34:46The crack of dawn and Alice's kill and terrify too.
- 34:50Not Alice. What is her name?
- 34:53It's not Alice. It's an A.
- 34:57Ally yeah, Ally still in Terrifier too.
- 35:00Like that's what comes to mind cuz those are just both so like
- 35:03fucking brutal and they stick with you and you can't stop
- 35:06thinking about them. Yeah, that was interesting.
- 35:08Whenever we were watching this movie, I couldn't help but think
- 35:10like, well, hey, Terrifier has got some competition.
- 35:13Yeah, cuz like, damn. Honestly, like watching that
- 35:16happen, I was like, OK, well, he just punches through her gut and
- 35:19then I was like. What the?
- 35:21Fuck is happening? I will say this is I love
- 35:26Terrifiers 1 and 2. They're one of my favorite
- 35:28movies of all time. 2 of. Your favorite?
- 35:31Movies well, yes one of my favorite series of all time this
- 35:35is probably one of the and I think it might maybe top it
- 35:39maybe the meanest movie I've seen in a long, long time well
- 35:44you. Know let's save.
- 35:45Let's save this ship for a good bad muggly.
- 35:48All right, I've got one more thing to talk.
- 35:49About here well. I'll get two more things.
- 35:52So yeah, we talked about the no music already.
- 35:54But the main reason why he didn't do that is because he
- 35:56didn't, he thought that a lot of people use music as a crutch and
- 36:01he didn't want that for his movie.
- 36:03And he didn't want to dictate how you're supposed to feel in
- 36:07the movie. So he thought leaving it absent
- 36:10is leaving it up to you to be able to like decide how you want
- 36:13to feel about what you're watching on screen, which I
- 36:15think really benefits this a lot.
- 36:17And. Honestly, and I know this is
- 36:19kind of a spoiler for reviews later, I didn't mean to see
- 36:23this. I was posting a cat video
- 36:25earlier and I saw a review. It feels very.
- 36:28Just don't. Read them man, I see them too.
- 36:30I screenshot them and I just don't read.
- 36:32Them me too, but it's like it's very video game esque, you know,
- 36:38like when you're playing a first person shooter type of thing and
- 36:42you hear the crunch, crunch of the footsteps.
- 36:45That's how this feels, and somebody in one of the reviews
- 36:48said that it feels very similar to that.
- 36:50Yeah, it definitely does. Yeah, okay, final thing.
- 36:54Okay, so he calls this movie a test of patience, which if you
- 36:59know the premise of this movie, that's very true.
- 37:01So his quote here is horror will reward patience.
- 37:05The more patient you are in any horror film, the more you allow
- 37:09yourself to build tension and dread.
- 37:11Then when the big moments happen, you get that dopamine
- 37:14rush and that reward. And that sums up this movie
- 37:18perfectly right here. I feel like we talked about this
- 37:21not too long ago about like how you have to have like something
- 37:25happen and then you have to keep raising the stakes.
- 37:27Like that's a kind of. Yeah, we talked about that a few
- 37:31episodes ago. Yeah, I forgot exactly which
- 37:33movie it was, but we were talking about that.
- 37:35And like, you always think about like, OK, well, how does this
- 37:38situation get even worse? You have to have tension, yes.
- 37:41Yeah, and this movie does a good job.
- 37:44Like you're building the premise and you're getting immersed in
- 37:46in the world and you're kind of understanding the rules of
- 37:49things. Like you're picking up the
- 37:50clues. It doesn't necessarily spell
- 37:51them out for you. Yeah.
- 37:52And I appreciate that. And you're feeling tense enough
- 37:55as it is, especially because we're in a unique situation
- 37:58where we're in the POV of the killer for most of the time.
- 38:00Yeah. In a way that a lot of movies
- 38:03don't do, where you kind of get like, some POV shots and then
- 38:05you go back to your protagonist. Yeah.
- 38:07For anybody that's not aware, this movie is 100% in the well,
- 38:12maybe not 100%. But 95%?
- 38:14Yeah, 95% in the perspective of the killer.
- 38:18Yeah, And so you already know, like something bad's gonna
- 38:20happen because you're already there with the killer.
- 38:22You already know he's like stalking.
- 38:24Yeah, you. Yeah, there's no surprises.
- 38:27Yes, yeah. And so I think that this does a
- 38:30good job of like, building that tension because you know
- 38:32something's gonna happen, and then when it goes, it just
- 38:34fucking goes. All right.
- 38:36Well, hey, I think we're segwaying into our good bad.
- 38:38And yes, let's just go ahead and talk about this.
- 38:40OK, yeah. So that's that's a big thing for
- 38:43me is that this movie like once it starts, it really fucking
- 38:46starts. I know a lot of people feel like
- 38:47it's slow, but I never really felt that way.
- 38:50And part of my concern when you first showed me the trailer for
- 38:53this, I was like, God, this is gonna be a fucking art house.
- 38:56Friday the 13th. That's.
- 38:57What everybody thought. That was my fear of it.
- 39:00And here's the thing. Yeah, Kande, this.
- 39:04I don't think it is. I mean, in a sense it's a Friday
- 39:07the 13th done in a. Like very more experimental.
- 39:12It's a yeah, and it's it's an experimental Friday the 13th.
- 39:16But I don't think it's art house.
- 39:17Like, I don't think it's trying to make a larger commentary.
- 39:20I don't think it's smelling its own farts.
- 39:21I think it's just like, hey, what if we take this concept we
- 39:25all know and we look at it from the other side of things?
- 39:27Well, to be fair, I think maybe. The most art house concept is
- 39:29probably the ending I. Don't think art house is
- 39:32necessarily by default smelling your own farts or being too good
- 39:36for anything else. I think it's generally you're
- 39:39taking a an existing construct and you're putting a unique, not
- 39:46like a unique spin on it that maybe hasn't ever been explored
- 39:50before. And you're adding like it's
- 39:53more, it is a little bit more pretentious.
- 39:55Like when you're art house, there's like always a little bit
- 39:58of like pretentiousness to it, but I don't think.
- 40:00This is like a deeper meaning behind things with this and I
- 40:03just. Hold that with this, I don't
- 40:04want to. I want to clarify, I don't think
- 40:06this movie is at any point pretentious.
- 40:08No, I just want to say that I don't.
- 40:10But I can see the art house comparison with this.
- 40:14My thing is that, and I'm somebody who loves art house and
- 40:17I'm not bothered by what is it the term that you hate?
- 40:23Elevated. Horror.
- 40:23Elevated horror. It's fucking stupid.
- 40:25I'm not bothered by. That terminology.
- 40:28The same way you are and. The term in itself implies that
- 40:32it's above the competition. It's above everything else.
- 40:36Fuck that. You can be elevated horror if
- 40:39that's what you want to call it. You can be a dog shit movie.
- 40:42Here's I think, though, is there like art house elevated,
- 40:45whatever you want to call it. I think that this is like, it's
- 40:48experimental, but I wouldn't classify it as that because I
- 40:50don't think it necessarily has a deeper meaning beyond just like
- 40:54this is the other side of the horror movie, you know what I
- 40:57mean? I think it's definitely like,
- 40:59it's experimental, it's fun, it takes a unique spin on it, but I
- 41:04don't think it's that same level of.
- 41:06Things he he commented on this, yeah, he said.
- 41:09I wouldn't say this movie is experimental, but it does
- 41:14experiment with the formula a tad.
- 41:16OK, so that's experimental. No, it's not an experimental
- 41:19movie, but like there is some experimentation done in the
- 41:22movie. So it's experimental.
- 41:24No, this is not what that means. Dude, you can do fucking Requiem
- 41:29for a scream. I'm gonna experiment with a
- 41:31little bit this. Would you call it that
- 41:32experimental? He's experimenting with the
- 41:34entire like perspective of the horror movie.
- 41:39That, yeah, but I don't think. Impacted a lot of the writing
- 41:42with it and a lot of the shooting decisions and the
- 41:45production decisions. I'm not mad about it and I'm not
- 41:48making like a moral judgement against it.
- 41:50I'm just saying it's definitely more experimental than a lot of
- 41:53other movies. You can say that you're
- 41:55experimenting with something, but if you experiment in a way
- 41:57that it's different from a lot of the other mainstream horror
- 42:01of the past, like 3 or 4 decades, then yeah, it's an
- 42:04experimental. Movie OK fine I'll I'll I'll
- 42:06agree that that that's fine it's.
- 42:07Probably experimental, what I call it art.
- 42:09I wouldn't call it elevated because I don't think that it's
- 42:12doing anything other than just being like, hey, what if we do
- 42:14this movie this way? You know what I mean?
- 42:16I think it's a fun and I don't think that all art has to be
- 42:21thought provoking to be great beyond, hey, this is an
- 42:25interesting way to think about it.
- 42:26It doesn't have to be deep. You don't have to write a thesis
- 42:29on it. You know what I mean?
- 42:30Yeah. And like, also, here's The thing
- 42:32is that you can write theses about stupid fucking movies,
- 42:35too. Yeah.
- 42:36So all of that moral judgments aside, I think that this is a
- 42:40really fun, interesting movie. I think it's got some really
- 42:43interesting gore to it. I like that we see like bits and
- 42:48pieces of the main carrot, like what would normally be the
- 42:51protagonist. Like we see their stories.
- 42:52Like we know who the archetypes are in their group.
- 42:55We know exactly what's happening without seeing their whole
- 42:57fucking story play out. My favorite thing about this?
- 42:59It's really fun. Is, I mean, it's like you're
- 43:02getting the traditional slacker movie from the 80s here.
- 43:05Like you get to see it second hand almost.
- 43:07Yes. And I think that's really fun.
- 43:09And I also like that Johnny, like, likes to play with his
- 43:13victims. But at the same time, he's
- 43:15pragmatic because there's this great moment when he's killing
- 43:17the Ranger and it is very much setting it up.
- 43:21Like he wants to just like torture this guy and chop him.
- 43:23And then he's like, this is going to fucking because he does
- 43:26like the hand. And then he's like, I'm not
- 43:28going to say here for 45 minutes and he just chops up.
- 43:30You know what? No, I have my thoughts about
- 43:32that one. I think he knew the guy was
- 43:34still alive, and I think he knew the guy was paralyzed.
- 43:36And he's like, I think he wanted to demonstrate what he was going
- 43:40to be doing to him. He's like, this is what's going
- 43:42to happen to your head and now I'm going to put you there and
- 43:45now it's happening to your head. But he did it to his arm.
- 43:47He did it to the log first, which that would be enough on
- 43:50its own. But then he did it to his arm.
- 43:51And it seems like he was going to be like, I'm going to do this
- 43:53to your whole body. But then the Ranger doesn't even
- 43:55react and he's like, well, this is going to take too long.
- 43:57He's not giving me the reaction he want.
- 43:59I want like, I'm just going to cut off his head.
- 44:01If he hold on, if he cared about a reaction, he would not be
- 44:04bashing fucking Colt the entire time that he did because he's
- 44:09too dead to have a reaction. I think he was doing that for
- 44:12Chris because he was she. Left, he was doing, he
- 44:14continued. For like, God knows how long he
- 44:17continued that. I think he's a little a bit.
- 44:20Of a shonen. All right, come on.
- 44:21Do we got any more good here? We got.
- 44:23We were like 45 minutes. And so that's I'm gonna sound my
- 44:26good there. OK, go all right, so my good for
- 44:28this. I think that it is incredibly
- 44:31well shot. So when you do a movie from this
- 44:33right here, you have to be able to bring your a game for how
- 44:36you're gonna do the cinematography and I think they
- 44:38fucking excelled with this right here.
- 44:40I thought that like especially the perspective like shifts that
- 44:45they did. I thought that they were really
- 44:46well done. I think especially whenever you
- 44:48switch over to Chris towards, I think that that is like really
- 44:52interesting because whenever we get to like we're watching him
- 44:56the entire time, it's like it's interesting watching him the
- 44:58killer from this perspective, but then when you see the same
- 45:01perspective from the final girl and like you, you don't have any
- 45:04dialogue from her. It's also really interesting
- 45:07too. I thought that that was kind of.
- 45:08You know, I didn't even make that connection.
- 45:10But yeah, the fact that she doesn't really speak at all in
- 45:12the end, and it's somebody else speaking still, that's a really
- 45:16good point, too. That's really smart.
- 45:18It's really cool. I like a lot.
- 45:20I thought this is probably some of the most creative kills that
- 45:24I've seen in a movie in a long, long time.
- 45:26Since Terrified 2 two years but yeah man they fucking brought it
- 45:32with this right here. I love that they kept it simple
- 45:36too yeah, that's the thing like they didn't try to
- 45:38overcomplicate it. They they stuck with the fucking
- 45:42tried and true formula because that's what they wanted to do
- 45:44with it. Johnny he's like a basic ass
- 45:49character. He has the most.
- 45:51He likes he likes cars and loves his Mama.
- 45:55Yeah, he's a fucking Tom Petty. Over here.
- 46:00He's a good boy, loves his Mama. In cars.
- 46:04Not Jesus cars, just cars. And America too, but in Canada
- 46:09is it. Yeah, and actually, I just so
- 46:15sound design, I thought that like hearing the crunching and
- 46:18The Walking show like that, that's 90% of this movie.
- 46:22And like, if you're gonna lean on that so heavily, you gotta
- 46:26know it. And they do, Yes.
- 46:28And I also think given the premise of the movie, it's
- 46:32surprisingly well paced, which like you would think, like you
- 46:36said, you go into it thinking this is going to be a slow ass
- 46:39movie if we're just watching this guy walk through the woods
- 46:41the entire time. But no, like it.
- 46:43They do interesting cuts and they know exactly when to
- 46:45introduce something new to the characters.
- 46:48And absolutely. Yeah, like they do a great job
- 46:50with them. They keep you.
- 46:52Engaged the entire time? Exactly.
- 46:53Yeah. All right, so now let's go on to
- 46:56some bad. So what did you know like?
- 46:58I think maybe part of the downfall of having these side
- 47:02characters not really matter is that maybe the acting is a
- 47:07little bit uneven with them. It's true.
- 47:10And that just it's distracting in an otherwise, like really
- 47:15solid movie, just to have like a little bit and the dialogue
- 47:18isn't important. But also, when there's so little
- 47:22dialogue, it has to like, really nail it.
- 47:24So OK, that's also my bad, but at the same time I want to
- 47:30acknowledge and I actually kind of think this is still love it
- 47:35despite the Vadnais of it. He went with that and he
- 47:40acknowledged that he's like these characters when you see
- 47:43them, they're hitting all of the tropes.
- 47:45Yes, absolutely. They're hitting everything and
- 47:46they're very thin and it's just like, because you know, that
- 47:50movie, yes, you've seen that movie, yes, and this is what
- 47:54we're trying to bring here with that.
- 47:55So I think a lot of that was intentional.
- 47:57However, I don't know necessarily if the performance
- 48:00were a part of that. And here's the thing too it it
- 48:03could be one of those things that, like the actors themselves
- 48:05are generally very competent, but because they were given very
- 48:08thin dialogue, sometimes it is hard to like, chew on that.
- 48:11That's true, yeah. You can't, Yeah.
- 48:13If you've only been given so much, you can't really have a
- 48:16whole lot of like flare or dynamics.
- 48:18And especially if you have to reshoot 70%, you know, maybe
- 48:22well. That gives you another chance to
- 48:24like, maybe like, hey, I could have.
- 48:25Done. Yeah.
- 48:25But sometimes you get the perfect shot.
- 48:28Sometimes, you know, early on. Yeah, Yeah.
- 48:30And sometimes you try something different and it's like, well,
- 48:32we don't have time to reshoot it again, so.
- 48:34That's fair. OK, let's talk about ugly.
- 48:39Troy he's the typical like douchebag boyfriend that's like
- 48:44just an asshole to fucking everybody.
- 48:46Especially the point where he's like, it's not my fault, called
- 48:48dad. Dad has fucked him up.
- 48:51Like OK. Yeah, fuck you, Troy.
- 48:53Yeah, like, I don't want any part of what you're selling,
- 48:56man. True.
- 48:57So he's he reminds me of the boyfriend.
- 49:00And on the Friday the 13th remake that owns the cabin.
- 49:03Yeah, Yeah, he gives me very much that he, Troy, would not
- 49:08let Jared Padalecki in for a drink.
- 49:10And I don't trust a man that won't want Jared Padalecki in
- 49:13for a drink. He also seems like the type of
- 49:14dude to call tits stupendous. Exactly they're.
- 49:17Stupendous. Your tits babe, babe.
- 49:20Your tits Stupendous. Yeah, he definitely wouldn't.
- 49:25So yeah, Troy. Troy is the ugly.
- 49:28Also, the firefighters like picking on a child.
- 49:31Yeah, yeah, the treatment of Johnny as a child is especially
- 49:36since he is like he has mental. Yeah, he's got, yeah, he's got
- 49:40some stuff going on that contributes to that.
- 49:43Yeah. OK, and that was one of mine was
- 49:46how he was treated as a kid, but I also think it's worth and I
- 49:51love it. But like his brutality is ugly
- 49:55in this movie. Like whenever I was watching
- 49:57this again last night, I was thinking like when he kills
- 50:01these people like. He takes joy in it.
- 50:03He not only does he take joy in it, but I think he tries to do
- 50:09it in the most painful and most terrifying way possible.
- 50:13That's what I'm saying. He's a fucking showman.
- 50:16He really is like he. Oh my God, it's just like, and
- 50:20even if he kills you quick, like whenever he killed Colt, I feel
- 50:23like when he did that he got he. Kept going.
- 50:25My theory is he got mad, he's like fuck I wasted that one.
- 50:30That guy is immediately dead and then he's like he's pissed a
- 50:32bear so he's just bashing them until he becomes a fucking
- 50:36liquid like in Wrong Turn 4. Yes.
- 50:39Yeah, and that's my, you know, like, I think that he likes to,
- 50:43like he puts on, like he said, puts on a show for them.
- 50:46Like if you come across him, he's going to make you regret
- 50:49it, and he's going to. I want you to know that you
- 50:52should not have fucked with his necklace.
- 50:54Yeah. His mother's necklace.
- 50:56Yeah. All right.
- 50:57Absurd. Probably Chuck, like Chuck's
- 51:00whole thing because he is just like a gross guy in this broken
- 51:04down house with mess everywhere and he probably doesn't wash his
- 51:09hand after he poops, which we know he poops.
- 51:11Like that's Canon. It's I think that's Canon for
- 51:15anybody ever. I no, but like it's Canada.
- 51:19He pooped like in the movie because the sheriff, like the
- 51:22Ranger was like banging on his door to ask about the bear
- 51:25traps. And he's like, can a guy pinch a
- 51:26loaf like. Yeah, that's funny.
- 51:29It like it's Canon he poops and doesn't wash his hands.
- 51:32I also love his face. It's like that slow wide shot of
- 51:36him just running. He's like get away from me.
- 51:37This is so slow and he's moving so slow.
- 51:39The fact that. He's got 2 items that are both
- 51:42Wait hold on, emblazoned. Chuck gotta go poop.
- 51:45Chuck Chuck Doo gotta go poop. Friday the 13th.
- 51:48Do you think that that was a reference?
- 51:49I really hope it was. Oh my God, it was.
- 51:52I thought about that last night. If you are confused by the way,
- 51:55another old reference from the. Show.
- 51:57Yes, very. Early Friday the 13th Part 3
- 52:00Chuck he goes poop and we have a bud for Italian.
- 52:04It is a running theme in the Friday the 13th movie.
- 52:07Somebody has always killed while they're pooping and they never
- 52:10had a chance to wash their hands.
- 52:11It is, but this character is named Chuck, yes, which is
- 52:14making me think. Yes, for sure, but no, the fact
- 52:18that he's got 2 items that are emblazoned with another #1
- 52:22motherfucker, which to me either implies that he has bought them
- 52:25for himself or the head can, and I have.
- 52:29Yeah. But he has been in the running
- 52:31to be #1 motherfucker two years in a row.
- 52:33The first year he wins the gold necklace.
- 52:35It's a great, it's a prize, it's like a gold medal in the
- 52:37Olympics. And then he wins at the second
- 52:39year and the organization's like, well, we don't want to
- 52:41spend the money for another gold necklace.
- 52:44You got a hat? You know, that's interesting,
- 52:47because to me, it made me think that he is in fact, not the
- 52:50number one motherfucker. Because if you're insane, if
- 52:52you're the number one motherfucker, you don't wear the
- 52:55hat. You don't.
- 52:56Yeah, you don't need that. Everybody knows.
- 52:59Yeah, Johnny's the number one motherfucker.
- 53:01Yeah, exactly. Johnny should have kept the
- 53:03necklace. Had that and his momma's
- 53:05necklace at the same time. Matter of fact, yeah, I'm
- 53:07keeping. It like, you know what?
- 53:08Yeah, fuck. That I'm the number one mother.
- 53:10My answer, and is how Johnny opens things.
- 53:16Like, I don't think he knows how to open like anything unless he
- 53:20has a corpse. Yeah.
- 53:23Like, so if he wants to break into he when he breaks into the
- 53:27building, he takes like half of a head and throws it through the
- 53:29window. When he wants to get his mask
- 53:32and his chains and his axe, he like takes a full body and
- 53:36throws it against the glass when he could in fact just punch
- 53:39through it himself. It's true, right?
- 53:49God, I did not expect that reaction.
- 53:51That's. Really good.
- 53:56Absurd. OK, I was struggling for a
- 53:59minute. I was like, how, Like, what is
- 54:00absurd about this movie? And then I saw that and I was
- 54:02like, yeah, that's really weird. Like, why not just like open
- 54:05something? I was.
- 54:07Watching that last night when he throws Aaron at the class games,
- 54:11he's like a foot like he like he said, he literally could have
- 54:14taken anything at the right against the class.
- 54:17He just picks up this dude's body and.
- 54:20Just, I mean, he's a fucking walking corpse, you know?
- 54:24Like, he could, like, punch through it.
- 54:25He can walk through it if he wants to.
- 54:28Yeah, he'll be all right. Yeah.
- 54:33Yeah, man. All right.
- 54:35Cool. All right, So what do you rate
- 54:37this thing? A 9 was really good.
- 54:39Yeah, really good. Oh man.
- 54:42I hate to just hand them out, but I think this one earned it.
- 54:46I think this is a 10. This thing met my expectations.
- 54:50And in fact, it actually exceeded because like, whenever
- 54:53I was pumped for the premise and the trailer and everything, I
- 54:57was like, I'm really sad for that.
- 54:58And then I watched it and I was like, fuck, man, that was
- 55:00awesome. I can't believe they pulled that
- 55:02off to the extent that they did. It takes props right there.
- 55:05Yeah, All right. Cool.
- 55:08This is starting average of 9.5 which is really good.
- 55:11That's the rating this movie deserves.
- 55:13Absolutely. All right.
- 55:15Are we ready to do? Yes.
- 55:16OK, okey, derkey. So we start off just hearing
- 55:19some crouching in the woods. Yeah, we get a shot of this
- 55:25little rundown little shack and we get these two dudes just kind
- 55:28of. Talking, I thought it was the
- 55:30frame. I thought it was the frame of an
- 55:32old house but it's actually like a fire tower.
- 55:34Yeah, because they reveal later that he was buried in like the
- 55:39power fire Tower place. Yeah.
- 55:41And we actually, the voices we hear are actually Troy and
- 55:45Aaron. And Troy is like, oh, hey, look
- 55:47at this neck. And Aaron's like, oh hey, the
- 55:49white pine slaughter happened here.
- 55:52Aaron brought that up, yeah. Yeah, that's.
- 55:54What I said I'm sorry, I thought you said Troy.
- 55:55Yeah, cuz I got them confused a lot early too.
- 55:58Yeah. So yeah, he brings up the white
- 56:00pine slaughter and then they're like OK, whatever, let's.
- 56:04Like, move on. And this is all just like we're
- 56:05hearing these voices off screen and just seeing like the frame
- 56:08of this fire tower. And then we see a hand reach out
- 56:10and take this necklace from a pipe.
- 56:13Yeah. And then they just walk off and
- 56:15this is a long shot, and it just stays on the pipe.
- 56:18And then you hear some like gurgling, and then a few seconds
- 56:22later Johnny arises from underneath the ground.
- 56:25Yeah, it's gross, but I like that we're actually seeing this
- 56:28whole like rising happening. How I guess?
- 56:30It is. Yeah.
- 56:31I was wondering, like, was the pipe there for him to breathe
- 56:34through or did somebody just stab him with it?
- 56:37Because he's dead, right? And he like, gets awakened from
- 56:40the necklace like. You want him to stay dead, so
- 56:43why would you put a pipe there for him?
- 56:45I was also thinking it could be a Friday 13th part six thing,
- 56:48like when Tommy stabbed Jason with the rod and that's what
- 56:52made him a zombie. Maybe that's like what happened
- 56:55here. That could be like a really nice
- 56:57like reference to that. I feel like this movie might be
- 56:59like old drops of like Friday the 13th.
- 57:02Yeah, Easter eggs all over the place cuz.
- 57:04I mean, it's AJ boy who's a mama's boy.
- 57:07That's true exactly. Yeah, and was not like taken
- 57:11care of by the adults around him who have kind of like an
- 57:13implicit societal responsibility to do so.
- 57:16All great points. Yeah.
- 57:17So all things are pointing to that being the case here.
- 57:21So Johnny slowly rises from underground, and then he begins
- 57:25his trek through the woods. He comes across what I suspect
- 57:29is a decomposed dog. I don't.
- 57:32Know I don't like it. I don't know.
- 57:36It could be a coyote. It's something that got stuck in
- 57:38the bear trap. Yeah.
- 57:39And he sees all of these pink ribbons tied around, too.
- 57:44And I do like as he's walking, like it's clearly like a time
- 57:46lapse because the angle of the light is different.
- 57:50It's that and like the setting and the forest is different too.
- 57:53And that's the thing that I was a little bit worried about with
- 57:55this movie. He's like, oh, we're just going
- 57:57to actually watch him walk everywhere.
- 57:59But this movie is smart and they do like cuts.
- 58:01So like he'll walk and then he'll jump cut and he's still,
- 58:05you know, same like frame shy, but like you can tell like the
- 58:08sun has changed and he's like clearly made some decent
- 58:12progress. Yes, and they do the same thing
- 58:15later when it switches perspectives to Chris.
- 58:17Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 58:18But yeah, he ends up also seeing like this little monitor thing
- 58:21on one of the trees, so he knows that somebody's in his.
- 58:24Area, yeah, it's like, I think like one of those like it would
- 58:27make sound like as a detector, like motion detector and like
- 58:31make sound. Somebody is set up in his neck
- 58:33of the woods and I don't think he really cares.
- 58:35And what we hear is like some honking at a house.
- 58:38It's Chuck's house. And the Ranger is mad about the
- 58:41traps. He's like, hey, are these your
- 58:43traps in the park? We've got tourists coming,
- 58:45college kids. If one of them steps in this
- 58:47like, it's going to be a big fucking deal for a small town,
- 58:49like, you can't do that. And he's like, also, by the way,
- 58:52if you keep setting up these traps, one of these days
- 58:54something is going to walk through the woods that isn't
- 58:56going to be stopped by it, and you're not going to like it.
- 58:58Yeah, And then they just get into this big argument and
- 59:00Chuck's like, get the fuck out of here.
- 59:02And then the share or the Ranger just is like, all right,
- 59:05whatever. And then he just drives off.
- 59:07Yeah. And as all this is happening,
- 59:10Johnny is approaching the house. Yeah, and he walks into it and
- 59:14it's gross. It's gross.
- 59:17It's very gross, yeah. They're usually cans all over
- 59:20the place. It's just nasty.
- 59:22He walks in as Chuck is walking back out and then he ends up
- 59:27walking over. There's like ATV.
- 59:29Going on, there's ATV on. And at one point, he, like,
- 59:31looks in a mirror. And behind the mirror, he sees,
- 59:33like, a necklace hanging off of something.
- 59:35And he has a flashback vision of his dad being like, this is your
- 59:38mom's necklace. As long as you have it, she's
- 59:39always with you. Yeah.
- 59:41And he is turning around, and he's about to grab it.
- 59:44And then we hear Chuck go. I told you to stay out of here.
- 59:47Yeah, he thought it was the rain.
- 59:49And then Johnny walks around the corner.
- 59:51He's like, oh fuck. Which?
- 59:53Also like the Ranger was a lot shorter and wearing different
- 59:56clothes and wasn't dead. He didn't see him.
- 59:58He heard a sound. Well, he shoots at him, which is
- 1:00:01a bold move. I think, I think what he did is
- 1:00:04he accidentally misfired because Johnny is in the living room and
- 1:00:07he kicks the bottom. He's like, you fucker.
- 1:00:09And then he's like trying to load his rifle.
- 1:00:11And I think he accidentally shoots.
- 1:00:12This guy clearly has demonstrated he does not.
- 1:00:14Yeah, well, not only that, but like his house is like shit, so,
- 1:00:18you know, And then when he sees like this giant mountain of a
- 1:00:21man just come across the corner, also a zombie.
- 1:00:25Yeah, yeah, he freaks the fuck out.
- 1:00:26Yeah, like his face is decomposed and his like his eyes
- 1:00:30are clouded over. Oh no, we haven't seen that yet.
- 1:00:32We haven't seen it. Yet we've only seen the back of
- 1:00:34his. This is what we know that like
- 1:00:36in hindsight, we know the so he's.
- 1:00:37Saying he he grabs his gun and then just like throws it and
- 1:00:40then Chuck runs out and then he's freaking the fuck out.
- 1:00:43He's a slow runner and he's like running back where Johnny came
- 1:00:46from and Johnny's chasing after him.
- 1:00:48Yeah, And eventually we catch up to him and he's caught in a trap
- 1:00:51and he's like, hey, man, I never did nothing to you.
- 1:00:53And this is a great transition shot because we just see his
- 1:00:56hand reaching towards Chuck, and then it cuts to his hand bloody
- 1:01:01reaching towards the necklace. So I love that because it lets
- 1:01:04us feel like we know exactly what happened without seeing it.
- 1:01:07And part of me was like, OK, well, this is a cool way to do
- 1:01:09stuff on a budget if you can't really show, like these kills,
- 1:01:12which made what comes later. Yeah, such a nice surprise.
- 1:01:16Yeah, that's true. Yeah, I didn't even think about
- 1:01:17that, but my God, it's such a fucking well done.
- 1:01:20Yes, transition right there. Yeah.
- 1:01:22And then he grabs a necklace. And it says mother one number
- 1:01:25one, motherfucker. God that is a tongue twister.
- 1:01:28Number one, motherfucker number one.
- 1:01:31And yeah, I mean, he's like, well, that's not my mom's.
- 1:01:34My mom probably didn't do that. So my.
- 1:01:37Mom didn't fuck herself. Yeah, that I know of.
- 1:01:41So like, it cuts back to him walking, like he passes Chuck
- 1:01:44again. And then, you know, I wrote,
- 1:01:47Does he leave the necklace there with him?
- 1:01:48Yeah, I. Don't think he leaves.
- 1:01:50It in the house I think. OK, yeah, he just walks past him
- 1:01:53and he's walking. Later it's night time and we
- 1:01:55hear young adults on some 4 Wheelers.
- 1:01:58Here's the thing. I wrote Young adults as Yas in
- 1:02:01my notes. Yeah.
- 1:02:02And it looks like a yeah on four Wheeler.
- 1:02:05I I suck because they were referring to them as college
- 1:02:08kids. I'm like, this is true to the
- 1:02:10Tucker and Dellness of a college college.
- 1:02:13Kids. Yeah, we got you, friend.
- 1:02:16I do love though, that like when you see this, we all know that
- 1:02:20scene in a horror movie when they're all driving down the
- 1:02:23road getting amped up for the party.
- 1:02:25And we cut to them around the fire.
- 1:02:27Yeah, yeah, exactly. So he like he saw where they
- 1:02:30were going. He walks in that direction and
- 1:02:32then he stumbles across where they have their little campfire.
- 1:02:35And here's the thing, we get the breakdown of these characters
- 1:02:38almost right away because Chris makes a joke about like, oh, do
- 1:02:41you have a ring for me? And True is like, yeah, it's
- 1:02:43behind my zipper, which doesn't make any fucking sense.
- 1:02:46Yeah, I think he thought that that was a really good little
- 1:02:48like quip. And then everybody's like, wait,
- 1:02:50you're. So that means it's on your Dick,
- 1:02:53which that means your Dick is the size of Chris's finger.
- 1:02:58Yeah. And so, like, somebody was going
- 1:03:00to make the joke. I feel like, honestly, like the
- 1:03:02girlfriend making it because she's still with that, you know
- 1:03:04what I mean? Like, it's like, OK, you made a
- 1:03:06stupid joke, Liz. I'll just laugh about it and
- 1:03:08move on. And he's very insecure.
- 1:03:10And then he says, Oh yeah, that's right.
- 1:03:12That's funny, right. Cool.
- 1:03:14Like so clearly he's got beef with Colt and then Aaron is
- 1:03:19talking about the white pine slaughter.
- 1:03:20So they're trying to like egg him on to talk about it.
- 1:03:23And he's so he starts talking about it and he's trying to
- 1:03:26avoid saying anything like potentially offensive about
- 1:03:28Johnny because he's like his exact words.
- 1:03:30He's like he's, he's a slow kid. Which he is actually slow
- 1:03:36because all he does is walk. Yeah, like literally he walks.
- 1:03:38I like. That I also like this right here
- 1:03:40too, because like, it's like he's trying to be yeah, he's not
- 1:03:44trying to say like. Yes, I like that.
- 1:03:47He's like trying to be like, OK, well, what?
- 1:03:49Like what is disturbed? For this, by the way, I don't.
- 1:03:51I don't even. Know probably like somebody with
- 1:03:53developmental disability disorder.
- 1:03:55OK. So yeah.
- 1:03:56Yeah, intellectual intellectual disability disorder is what the
- 1:04:00official like. See, I would be like Aaron here.
- 1:04:03I'd be like, he's, I don't know. And then, yeah, they're like,
- 1:04:07say it, Aaron. What?
- 1:04:08What is it? Say the word.
- 1:04:10And then they're like, actually, hold on, Aaron, don't say it.
- 1:04:13Yeah. And he's like, oh what, you're
- 1:04:15going to cancel me? And she goes, well, cancel
- 1:04:17culture isn't really fucking ableist.
- 1:04:18I love that line because cancel culture is really only a term
- 1:04:22used by. People who?
- 1:04:23Yeah, like who don't want to be held accountable by saying
- 1:04:25shitty things because they don't want to learn to be like a
- 1:04:27little bit more understanding of people outside.
- 1:04:30What does he say back to that? I don't he has a good comeback
- 1:04:34to that. He's like, fuck, what does he
- 1:04:37say? I don't remember.
- 1:04:39I didn't write it down. Yeah.
- 1:04:42Then he started telling the story.
- 1:04:44So basically there were these logging encampments and because
- 1:04:48they were so far away from civilization runs, stores would
- 1:04:51set up. Yeah, OK, I got the whole thing
- 1:04:53written down if you wanna. Well, I basically wrote it down
- 1:04:55too. OK.
- 1:04:56Did you say 70 years ago? I didn't write the years.
- 1:04:59Yeah, it was 70 years ago when this.
- 1:05:01Was on 70 years. 70, yeah. Yeah, So they're out there in
- 1:05:07the middle of nowhere. So stores would pop up and
- 1:05:09they'd be selling like basic goods, but they would be like
- 1:05:11incredibly marked up. And they had no other options of
- 1:05:13where to go. So they were already resentful.
- 1:05:15Johnny's dad was one of these people that owned the store.
- 1:05:18So the loggers already didn't like him and they didn't like
- 1:05:20Johnny because he had all these toy cars that he loved and he
- 1:05:23would leave them laying around. In one of the days, one of the
- 1:05:27loggers fell on a toy car, broke his ankle, so he didn't work
- 1:05:31anymore. So all the loggers were really
- 1:05:32upset about that because obviously, like, that fucks up
- 1:05:35their workload, that fucks up his money flow.
- 1:05:37Like it's a lot of issues. And plus, they were already
- 1:05:39taking out their frustrations on with a dad on Johnny, yes.
- 1:05:44So. So they lure him to this fire
- 1:05:47tower. Yeah, they tell him that they
- 1:05:49have all kinds of toys up in the fire tower.
- 1:05:52So he climbs up there and one of the loggers is up there in one
- 1:05:55of those old tiny firefighter masks, and it scares Johnny and
- 1:05:58he falls. And when he falls, he dies.
- 1:06:01And the loggers panic and they put the mask on him, hoping that
- 1:06:05it would look like he was just out there playing on his own and
- 1:06:08fell. And of course, Johnny's dad
- 1:06:11doesn't, like, really buy it. But there's nothing that can be
- 1:06:14done. However, a week later, everybody
- 1:06:20like some corporate bigwigs. Come down.
- 1:06:22No, they killed Johnny. Sad.
- 1:06:24Oh, did they kill Johnny? Sad.
- 1:06:25Did I miss that? Yeah.
- 1:06:26OK, I missed that part then. OK, he knew about it.
- 1:06:30And then like, they didn't like the fact that he was like, wise
- 1:06:34to the whole thing. Yeah, He confronted them in the
- 1:06:37mess hall, and he tried to start a fight, and he ended up dying,
- 1:06:40too. Yeah.
- 1:06:40Then a week later, some corporate bigwigs were coming
- 1:06:43down to, like, try and investigate all of this.
- 1:06:45And then they find everybody in the encampment dead.
- 1:06:48And they ended up covering that up as well.
- 1:06:50They pay off the widows. And they tried to like they told
- 1:06:53the local newspapers that it was like animals came in and
- 1:06:55attacked all of the loggers. So I have a question.
- 1:06:59OK. This all happened when Johnny
- 1:07:01was a child. Does that mean that he killed
- 1:07:04them as a child? And he?
- 1:07:07Did he continue to grow? Yes.
- 1:07:09As a zombie, do you not stop aging when you die?
- 1:07:16You're asking a lot of really good questions, Travis.
- 1:07:19I'm also curious because the ranger's dad was one of the
- 1:07:25loggers that was there. Well.
- 1:07:28That, and he survived. He they addressed that and they
- 1:07:33actually might, this actually might address what I'm talking
- 1:07:36about here. But whenever Chris later asked
- 1:07:38the Rangers like, so the story was it true?
- 1:07:40He said, well, let's say about like parts of it.
- 1:07:45Most of it is, but parts of it aren't.
- 1:07:47Well, you said everybody died except for my dad.
- 1:07:50That could be one of the parts. Of But that was 70 years ago.
- 1:07:55Yeah, that's a good point. Well, then again, like.
- 1:07:57The ranger's not that old. We don't know what's 70 years.
- 1:08:01Could be wrong, Survivor could be wrong.
- 1:08:04Johnny's age could be wrong. OK, that could be the 30.
- 1:08:07Percent that's. Incorrect.
- 1:08:08That's that's 10% each right there.
- 1:08:10That's OK. That's fair.
- 1:08:12That's yeah. So the group decides that
- 1:08:14they're all gonna go inside, but Aurora wants to take a group
- 1:08:16photo first, which I know people like to laugh at.
- 1:08:19Like, oh, well, you don't even have a signal for Instagram
- 1:08:23here. But like, it's nice to have
- 1:08:24photos with your friends. And I think more people need to
- 1:08:26take advantage of the fact that we have technology and get
- 1:08:29photos with your loved ones because when you don't have
- 1:08:32those to look back on, it sucks. I mean, it was a thing before
- 1:08:35social media. I know it.
- 1:08:36Was the thing before social media but it's like now if you
- 1:08:39do it. I'm agreeing with you.
- 1:08:40Yeah, yeah, no, I'm saying like, OK, yeah, for the sake of the
- 1:08:43show. Like it was a thing before
- 1:08:44social media, but now it's like with social media, you get
- 1:08:47shamed for doing it and like, it's nice to post.
- 1:08:50There are plenty of pictures I take that I don't post.
- 1:08:52There are plenty of pictures I take that I do.
- 1:08:54But it's nice to have them all in one place because honestly,
- 1:08:56when it's on social media, I run less a risk of losing them if
- 1:08:59something happens to my phone or my laptop, you know?
- 1:09:02And it's nice to have those. And when you don't have that
- 1:09:05option for them anymore, it really sucks to look back and be
- 1:09:07like, man, it would be nice to have like something tangible for
- 1:09:10those memories, you know? Yeah, I agree.
- 1:09:13But yeah, anyway, we see them take in the group photo, and we
- 1:09:16also see Johnny in the background.
- 1:09:17And it's like, man, this would be like a really fun thing.
- 1:09:19Like, you know in a typical horror movie that you would see
- 1:09:22something in the background in the picture and that does come
- 1:09:24up in conversation later. That's the cool thing about this
- 1:09:26movie is every scene, of course, up until we get to a certain
- 1:09:31point, Johnny's in frame, Johnny's in the scene at some
- 1:09:34place, yes, somewhere, which is awesome.
- 1:09:36I love that. So yeah, they take their picture
- 1:09:39and then they all put out the fire and then they're gonna go
- 1:09:42back to the cabin for the night. And Johnny goes into the shed
- 1:09:45and grabs a weapon. Grabs a saw.
- 1:09:49And he hears he's, like, wandering around outside of the
- 1:09:52cabin, and he hears Chris and Troy arguing about her joke that
- 1:09:55she made out there and then also about Colton.
- 1:09:57He's like, I can't believe you forced me to invite your weird
- 1:10:00friend. And she goes, he's just going
- 1:10:01through something. OK, We hear Brody outside.
- 1:10:05She's smoking, and she catches Aaron sneaking out.
- 1:10:07He's like, I'm just going out to take a shit, which doesn't make
- 1:10:11sense because you're in a fucking cabin.
- 1:10:12And I feel like a cabin this size has a bathroom.
- 1:10:15Well, yeah, but it could be analysis.
- 1:10:17You know, here's the thing about this movie.
- 1:10:19I don't know when it takes place because we don't see them have
- 1:10:23like, do they? Have cell phones?
- 1:10:25They do have cell phones because Aurora's recording Aaron when
- 1:10:28he's telling that story. That's true.
- 1:10:30And she also mentioned specifically cancelled cultures,
- 1:10:32so it's at least later than. 2020 I was confused about that
- 1:10:35because he at this point has a cassette player.
- 1:10:38Yes, no, that's cuz he's cool and quirky and they even make
- 1:10:41fun of him cuz they're like, you're gonna go see those gas
- 1:10:43station girls and be like, do you wanna look at my cassette
- 1:10:46player? They make fun of okay.
- 1:10:47And this feels realistic for friends.
- 1:10:50I love this right here. I thought this fill.
- 1:10:52Me up. Yeah, right.
- 1:10:54Because like, yeah, like, apparently he like, chatted up
- 1:10:57with some girls at the gas station and.
- 1:10:59And that was. Even like briefly mentioned in
- 1:11:00the opening, Yeah, like I like that.
- 1:11:03Yeah, I thought the ribbon that they did here was very real.
- 1:11:06Yeah, Yeah. So yeah, he they all go back
- 1:11:09inside and Aaron decides that he's going to go.
- 1:11:13I don't really know where he's actually.
- 1:11:15I don't know where he was eventually going to go, but he
- 1:11:17decides he's going to like, smoke beforehand, whatever he
- 1:11:20was going to do behind the shed. And as he is back there smoking,
- 1:11:24Johnny sneaks up behind him and saws off this his head.
- 1:11:28And grabs him and then he just puts it through his mouth.
- 1:11:32Yeah. Like.
- 1:11:33Halves his head. Oh my God, it's fucking crazy.
- 1:11:35And this is where the best bit like this, this is where the
- 1:11:39movie fully endeared me to it. Because he is carrying John or
- 1:11:42Johnny is carrying Aaron through the woods by his jaw.
- 1:11:45Like his lower jaw and the cassette.
- 1:11:47Keeping his top half of his. Head holding the top half of his
- 1:11:50head in his other hand and the cassette player still playing.
- 1:11:53And we get more of this time lapse stuff which you can tell
- 1:11:55by like the location in the woods and where the lighting is,
- 1:11:58but you also get it from the cassette player cuz you can do
- 1:12:01the battery dying down. It's playing music and yeah, the
- 1:12:04I guess it's like going really slow.
- 1:12:06It starts slowing down and getting really distorted and
- 1:12:09it's fucking amazing. That was a good decision on that
- 1:12:13part. That was so good.
- 1:12:14It was just, and that that was honestly, that was the moment
- 1:12:17this movie won me over in the theater.
- 1:12:19I was like, these people, they fucking get it.
- 1:12:22Yeah, no, that was, that was a nice detail right there.
- 1:12:25And like, he gets to the Ranger station.
- 1:12:27Yeah, it's like a tourist. Observation area where it was
- 1:12:30titled Yeah. And he, he, he just throws
- 1:12:34Aaron's head through the window. I wonder how many times they had
- 1:12:37to shoot that to get that thing to land right.
- 1:12:39Because like it lands perfectly in the in the light like
- 1:12:42upright. I wonder if they like weighted
- 1:12:44the bottom down like right above?
- 1:12:46Like where? The chocolate would be.
- 1:12:48Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:12:49So yeah, that's how we bust into there.
- 1:12:51And then he's just kind of staring around.
- 1:12:54He's like checking out some of their, like, photos in there.
- 1:12:57And then he comes across the the wall where they have the mask
- 1:13:00that he saw when he died originally.
- 1:13:03Yeah. Along with two hooks and a.
- 1:13:06It's like a hook, but it's on a chain.
- 1:13:09So like a hook that's on either chain.
- 1:13:10It's called a drag hook. Oh, OK.
- 1:13:12And it's got like a little bit of information.
- 1:13:14I didn't write the whole thing down, but it's basically like it
- 1:13:16was used as like a rescue tool kind of type thing.
- 1:13:18I love that they actually kept all this stuff specific to like
- 1:13:22classic firefighter gear. It's really cool.
- 1:13:24It's all. Really interesting because like,
- 1:13:28I don't know, being near Eastern Kentucky, which I'm not from
- 1:13:32around this area originally, but having been around here for long
- 1:13:38enough now and having visited your hometown enough, it feels
- 1:13:42there's a sense of, I kind of appreciate the acknowledgement
- 1:13:47of the history of that area. I'm not, I'm not gonna, I'm
- 1:13:50gonna be honest. Like when I watch this movie and
- 1:13:53see the environment in shot and it 100% reminds me of home.
- 1:13:56Yeah, I was I It has an Appalachian sense to it.
- 1:14:00It's mountains. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:02Like, I mean like I grew up like when we see Chuck's house, I
- 1:14:06couldn't like I could probably take you to an exact spot like
- 1:14:09that in. Harlem, Yeah.
- 1:14:10It's like, so we've got My Bloody Valentine, which has like
- 1:14:14the mining thing, but this this movie in some ways feels like
- 1:14:18it's. More like the yeah, yeah, like
- 1:14:21the landscape. Yeah.
- 1:14:23Yeah, so Johnny takes Aaron's body and just throws it against
- 1:14:27the glass. And I love how he used the top
- 1:14:30half of the head for like the main door, but then he used the
- 1:14:33whole body for the little bulletin board.
- 1:14:35See, I don't think he game plans.
- 1:14:37I think he is like, well, I got the body here like.
- 1:14:41Well, the head rolled under the desk.
- 1:14:42Maybe he didn't see where it landed.
- 1:14:44I feel like he's still putting on a show.
- 1:14:46He's like, maybe you're still alive.
- 1:14:47I don't know. You don't see your body going to
- 1:14:49this thing. He's like, I don't know what
- 1:14:50kills people. Where's the brainstem at?
- 1:14:52Maybe he's still. I mean, you still kind of have
- 1:14:54your brain, right? Yeah, maybe you're still watch
- 1:14:57this shit. I'm dude.
- 1:14:58Yeah, so he he takes the mask, the axe and the drag hook.
- 1:15:02I got to say man, that mask is awesome.
- 1:15:05I love that fucking mask. He.
- 1:15:07Loves the mask and I fucking and resentful of the people and not
- 1:15:13resentful in a real way because some of them are our friends
- 1:15:16That referred to it as a minions mask.
- 1:15:18Yeah. Now that's what I think of when
- 1:15:21I see it. I've.
- 1:15:22Got questions about that. I thought that that maybe was
- 1:15:26because the Minions movie was coming now.
- 1:15:28So I got the Minions, but then like I, I guess I kind of get it
- 1:15:32because. It's got like the roundhead and
- 1:15:34the big goggly eyes which like I get it.
- 1:15:37I wouldn't have made that connection on my own though.
- 1:15:38So like now it's it sucks that that's forever.
- 1:15:41Joe Head Joe, I'm gonna need you to explain.
- 1:15:43I I. I'm Joe and Kendra.
- 1:15:45Joe and Kendra and I need y'all to explain.
- 1:15:47Calling you out. Yeah.
- 1:15:48All right. So he suits up.
- 1:15:50He's got his gear now. Next morning we see him walking
- 1:15:52in the woods. He's got the mask on, he's
- 1:15:54holding his weapons. Yeah, I love how I like because
- 1:15:56like, I was singing in this scene right here, like this
- 1:16:00plays into the slasher movie where like he get the opening
- 1:16:03kill and then it's the guy that automatically was leaving
- 1:16:06anyway, so he's got a plausible reason to be missing.
- 1:16:08And then it cuts the next morning because he takes them so
- 1:16:11fucking long to walk from point A to point B Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:14It was so cool. And nobody, it's plausible
- 1:16:16enough that maybe nobody has realized that he's missing yet.
- 1:16:19Or if they have, they think like, oh, he's just with the gas
- 1:16:21station. Exactly.
- 1:16:22Yeah. Yeah, it's good.
- 1:16:24And he's down by the lake. He's on the other side of the
- 1:16:26lake and he sees Aurar and Brody are on the dock.
- 1:16:30And Brody, like, has tricked a Royer to be out there.
- 1:16:32And she's like, oh, I thought we were going to do yoga.
- 1:16:34And bro, I was like, well, I think maybe we need to go for a
- 1:16:37slim. I love how this is see this
- 1:16:40movie does a good thing so it keeps like this.
- 1:16:43Keeps these long shots that go on for minutes that time, but it
- 1:16:47also cuts them. Like, it kind of like, creates
- 1:16:51action in them in interesting ways because he's watching that.
- 1:16:54And as he does it, he takes his axe and just slams it in the
- 1:16:57stump. Yeah.
- 1:16:58And then, like, you can tell like, he's like, that's my
- 1:17:00fucking target. I don't even need this thing.
- 1:17:03Yeah, and then he like, walks into the water.
- 1:17:06Yeah, Oh my God, Yeah. So.
- 1:17:09So Aurora says like, I'm going to go to the lookout and I'm
- 1:17:13going to stretch. When you're done with your slim,
- 1:17:14maybe you can meet up, meet me up there and we'll have like a
- 1:17:17second chance at that. Yeah, you can help me stretch.
- 1:17:20Yeah, she's like, basically just don't do this high school
- 1:17:22bullshit. Like if you want to fuck, let's
- 1:17:23just fuck. Yeah, just tell me.
- 1:17:25Like just say you want to fuck. Don't don't take me down here to
- 1:17:28go swimming. So she goes up there and then
- 1:17:32Brody is swimming and like we still are across from the lake
- 1:17:36and we just hear a. And Brody?
- 1:17:39Is pulled under the water. It's so fucking effect cuz like
- 1:17:42that is that's the great thing about these kills is like how
- 1:17:45caught off guard every single one of them is.
- 1:17:47We don't have this like drawn out like.
- 1:17:50Yeah, yeah, it's. Just like done.
- 1:17:53And we do see Brody pop up one more time and then she's pulled
- 1:17:56back down and that's it. She's dead.
- 1:17:58Yeah, and then he just walks out of the.
- 1:18:00Water. Yeah, Oh my God, he just walks
- 1:18:01right back up. And I also appreciate how
- 1:18:05realistic this lake is because it's such a steep and immediate
- 1:18:09drop off. Like you've got like 5 feet or
- 1:18:11so where it's like shallow enough to stand.
- 1:18:13And then it's like a yeah, yeah, I'm being from a lake area
- 1:18:17that's in my area of xfinities. That's realistic.
- 1:18:21You've got to be careful. So now this is probably the
- 1:18:25scene for everybody. Oh my God.
- 1:18:27So Johnny treks up the mountain, and he makes his way up to Is It
- 1:18:33Brody? No, this is Aurora.
- 1:18:35Aurora, who is doing her yoga up there and he slowly approaches
- 1:18:39and then she turns around after she.
- 1:18:41Hears a yeah, she hears a stick break and she goes, I was
- 1:18:43wondering when you'd be up here. And then she turns around, she
- 1:18:45goes and she starts to back up. She gets to the edge.
- 1:18:48She can't go any further and then it's.
- 1:18:50At the top of a mountain. Box.
- 1:18:52Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not. And it's not like a full.
- 1:18:54Like a hill, mountain, mountain. Yeah, it's like it's a very
- 1:18:57steep, like it's almost like a quarry type edge.
- 1:19:01It has, yeah. Like it's like whenever you go
- 1:19:04hiking and you get to like the spot to.
- 1:19:06Look at. You can't walk down it.
- 1:19:08It's not a vertical drop, but it's near vertical.
- 1:19:11I'd say like it's 100° angle maybe?
- 1:19:13Yeah. And it's like all gravel.
- 1:19:15So it's just, it's really intense.
- 1:19:17It's really scary. She knows she can't, like,
- 1:19:19safely get down it. And so Johnny comes up, she
- 1:19:22turns around and he punches through her.
- 1:19:27And then he takes the hook, he turns her around, he pulls it
- 1:19:32up, he jams it into her head, turns her back around.
- 1:19:36And then he pulls on the chain and you see her vertebrae
- 1:19:41popping out, you see her go full Gumby, and then her head comes
- 1:19:48through her fucking stomach, you guys.
- 1:19:50Yeah, through her back, out her back.
- 1:19:53And this is one of the gnarliest fucking kills I've seen in a
- 1:19:57while. Anything like this, it's amazing
- 1:20:00in terms of. Gore innovation in horror.
- 1:20:03Yeah, like I, I just, I can't believe they pulled it off as
- 1:20:07well as they did. I just everybody in the theater,
- 1:20:10even Nacho Man, Randy Obnoxious, Yeah got silent and you could
- 1:20:16just feel all of it like the collective sense of.
- 1:20:18What the fuck? Yeah, like honestly, they they
- 1:20:21did. They achieved something with
- 1:20:23that right there. That was as a brand new fucking
- 1:20:26kill. That was fucking history.
- 1:20:29Yeah, for real. Amazing.
- 1:20:30Yeah, and like. And then he just knocks her down
- 1:20:34the hill. I like that he like soaks it in
- 1:20:36for a second. He's like he like watches the
- 1:20:39body there and they he he kicks it.
- 1:20:41He just like no respect for the dead here.
- 1:20:44He just kicks it and I love. It's such a big shot.
- 1:20:47Yeah, we get a wide shot of the body rolling all the way down
- 1:20:51the hill, and I appreciate how long it takes to get to the.
- 1:20:54Yeah, cuz. We talked about this a lot.
- 1:20:56I don't. Even think it gets to the
- 1:20:57bottom. No, we.
- 1:20:58Watched her splash no, we watched her splash into the
- 1:21:00water I. Thought it was rocks.
- 1:21:03Maybe it was, I don't know, but yeah.
- 1:21:05It's hard to this is how far back the shot is.
- 1:21:08You can't even really fully see. Yeah, it's just God.
- 1:21:12Sorry, what were you saying? No, I was gonna say how we've
- 1:21:15had a lot of episodes recently where we've talked about people
- 1:21:17just like, fucking rolling down the hills, Rolling down the
- 1:21:19hills. And this one, like, actually
- 1:21:21takes the seriousness of it into consideration.
- 1:21:24She was not Roddy Piper. No, in this situation, she did
- 1:21:28not recover from this shit. Oh, man.
- 1:21:31All right. So yeah, that one's out of the
- 1:21:33way. So he marches on and he gets his
- 1:21:37axe back. He goes back to where he put
- 1:21:39that down and then he hears the group arguing so.
- 1:21:43Troy is telling Chris and Colt that they're overreacting over
- 1:21:48the friends missing. He's like Brody and Aurora just
- 1:21:50fucking in the lake. And Aaron is just looking for
- 1:21:53those gas station girls. And Chris is like, well, what
- 1:21:55about like, you know, the person in the picture?
- 1:21:58And he's like, it was just a bad shot.
- 1:22:00It was dark. Yeah.
- 1:22:02And then Colt was like, just give me the keys and I'm going
- 1:22:04to drive to the Ranger station. He goes, oh, you want the the
- 1:22:06keys and he tosses them in the woods, which is a fucking stupid
- 1:22:09move because you still need the keys to your goddamn car, Troy.
- 1:22:12Not only that, they win right at Johnny's feet and.
- 1:22:15They have a little car key chain and honestly this moment
- 1:22:18watching Johnny just like. I love this man.
- 1:22:21This was amazing that they like included this little.
- 1:22:24Like, it's like a breather, but it's also like a way to like,
- 1:22:28explore his character a little bit and he just picks up the
- 1:22:31car. He's just playing with it, and
- 1:22:33then he hears Troy being an asshole again and he goes this
- 1:22:36Oh yeah, this man. Is brutal even.
- 1:22:38To the things he. Loves and.
- 1:22:40Then you can hear Chris and Cole, they drive off.
- 1:22:43On the ATV, yeah. And Troy, yeah, it's Troy.
- 1:22:48OK. Yeah, he's out there like
- 1:22:50looking for this. Stuff and then yeah, he's.
- 1:22:52Like oh shit, I do need to actually find my key, don't I?
- 1:22:55And then Johnny comes up. No Troy.
- 1:23:03Troy goes back inside. I lost where I'm at on my notes.
- 1:23:05So Troy goes back into. The cabin, the.
- 1:23:07Truck is still upfront. And Johnny approaches the truck
- 1:23:11and he takes a like a bar and he's, it's like a branch.
- 1:23:14Yeah. And he like props dude, I.
- 1:23:16Love how smart this. Fucking guy is he?
- 1:23:18He puts it on the horn and like he sets a trap for Troy.
- 1:23:21I don't care who. You are.
- 1:23:24If you hear that outside, that's not good.
- 1:23:27Like I I guess somebody either wrecked or somebody put a
- 1:23:30fucking thing there is worrying you out in the middle of the
- 1:23:33woods. There's no reason for your alarm
- 1:23:35to be going. Off.
- 1:23:36Yeah, that's not even on alarm. That's not even like a oh.
- 1:23:39Man a tree. Fell and set off my car alarm
- 1:23:42because I'll be going. That's just the horn.
- 1:23:44Somebody's laying on the horn. Yeah, yes.
- 1:23:46And so he goes out there and at first, I guess maybe he thinks
- 1:23:49it's. Chris, your Colt fucking with
- 1:23:50him, which doesn't make any sense because he hasn't heard
- 1:23:52the four Wheeler come back. Yeah.
- 1:23:54And he goes out there and Johnny gets him.
- 1:23:56Johnny hits him. I like Johnny's movie.
- 1:23:58Yeah, so like Johnny does that. And he immediately books it,
- 1:24:02which again, the thing with this movie is I love how it's like
- 1:24:05this is how that horror villain, yes, maneuvers in this
- 1:24:08situation. So like, he sets the horn and he
- 1:24:11walks along the side of the house and he's booking it like
- 1:24:14he's power walking and he walks around the whole house.
- 1:24:18Yes. And then he comes back around to
- 1:24:19the front. And then that's when Troy is out
- 1:24:23there, you know, setting the thing.
- 1:24:25And then you can also see the other guy in.
- 1:24:28Yeah, Evan. Evan.
- 1:24:29Yeah, he notices. Yeah, he sees.
- 1:24:31Johnny through the. Window and he's like wait, what
- 1:24:33am I? High, what's happening?
- 1:24:35And so Johnny comes up and he swings at Troy with the axe and
- 1:24:41Troy catches it. Yeah, catches it.
- 1:24:42He ends up getting cut on the leg and he falls back.
- 1:24:46But then Evan comes out and shoots Johnny.
- 1:24:48Yeah. And that knocks him down.
- 1:24:50And so he puts a tourniquet around Troy's leg and he's like,
- 1:24:53OK, we need to go. I like how like when this is all
- 1:24:57happening you like you can see like trying to search to.
- 1:24:59Breathe again. Yeah.
- 1:25:00We just see him go. Yeah.
- 1:25:02And he follows. Along, he picks up the axe
- 1:25:04again. He throws it.
- 1:25:05It hits Evan in the head, and we don't actually see it at first.
- 1:25:08We just hear Troy go, Oh my God, Evan Yeah.
- 1:25:11And then like, we cut back to like, from Johnny's POV as he's
- 1:25:15walking, we see Evan on the ground with the axe in his head.
- 1:25:17And then we see you, Troy. And Troy falls because his leg
- 1:25:20is like, fox. And then Johnny picks up a big
- 1:25:23boulder and just splatters him. I wonder how they did that
- 1:25:27because like it's a one shot. It's a one shot and the shot
- 1:25:30like the effect is. Super convincing.
- 1:25:32How the fuck did? They pull.
- 1:25:33Yeah. He like brains, that guy, Yeah.
- 1:25:36And. God, man, they did an amazing
- 1:25:38job, Yeah. OK.
- 1:25:41And at that point, Chris? And Colt have come back on the
- 1:25:44four Wheeler and they're calling for Troy and Evan and they're
- 1:25:47saying the ranger's going to meet us at the station.
- 1:25:50They found Aaron's dead body, which is why.
- 1:25:53They came back. Yeah.
- 1:25:54They're like Troy. Troy Aaron's.
- 1:25:56Dead and then like they see Johnny and they freak out and
- 1:25:59they barely make it onto the ATV before well, because at this
- 1:26:03time like Johnny has reached into Troy his pocket because.
- 1:26:05He saw Troy put the necklace in his pocket.
- 1:26:08Oh, yeah. He reaches into his pocket.
- 1:26:09It's empty. And then when he looks over and
- 1:26:11Chris is checking the ground, she sees blood on the ground and
- 1:26:14she sees Johnny sees the necklace on her neck.
- 1:26:16So at some point, Troy did give it to her.
- 1:26:19And then he comes over to her. And Cole is like, Oh my God,
- 1:26:21Chris, you've got to. We've gotta go now.
- 1:26:23When they get away, just in time, Yeah.
- 1:26:25So Johnny continues walking. He's in a.
- 1:26:28Very pretty field and a beautiful.
- 1:26:31Sunset and I just took a moment to appreciate the scenery.
- 1:26:33I do love that. Yeah.
- 1:26:34It's like sundown. Yeah, I just.
- 1:26:36Love my time passes so peaceful. This is like.
- 1:26:40The lavender field? Really.
- 1:26:42Beller and Edward, like, just laid together.
- 1:26:45I kind of remind. It reminded me of like the
- 1:26:48Texas. Chainsaw movie that came out on
- 1:26:49Netflix where? Like he's in the sunflower
- 1:26:52field, Yeah. Which is a beautiful in its own
- 1:26:55it. Is.
- 1:26:56All right, so Johnny is like walk.
- 1:26:58And then it cuts. Back to Night and one of the
- 1:27:01other things I like about this movie is like, they don't do
- 1:27:03artificial lighting with this stuff.
- 1:27:05When it's dark outside, you don't see shit.
- 1:27:07You don't see shit. And when you?
- 1:27:08Do cut into a person's face you get.
- 1:27:10Like all of that noise with it. So you can tell that they like
- 1:27:14have all of the like shit on their camera.
- 1:27:17That means they they ramped up the ISO and the ISO.
- 1:27:20Hell on the scene so. They make.
- 1:27:24It back to the They're at their station and the Ranger is
- 1:27:29yelling. At Chris, he's like, where did
- 1:27:30you get that necklace? He's like, that's Johnny's mom's
- 1:27:33necklace. It has to be there.
- 1:27:35And she goes, well, I'll just go put it back.
- 1:27:36He's you can't just put it back. You have to get him back
- 1:27:39underground. He has to be in that hologram.
- 1:27:41That's the only place they can hold him.
- 1:27:43Yeah. He's like, he's awake now.
- 1:27:45Yeah, Yeah, he's like. And then Johnny approaches.
- 1:27:49And he's like, I know what you did 10 years ago.
- 1:27:52He's like, yeah. He's like, you Remember Me?
- 1:27:54I remember you. He's like, I put you in the
- 1:27:56ground before, I'll put you in the crowd now and they shoot.
- 1:27:58Him and close like, oh cool, so he can be shot.
- 1:28:01He goes no bullets, just saw him down.
- 1:28:03He's like, we've got to get him to the fire tower.
- 1:28:04That's the only ground that can hold him.
- 1:28:07And he tells Chris that his father was the only one that
- 1:28:10survives the white pine slaughter and that Johnny rose
- 1:28:13up 10 years later and killed all of his loved ones.
- 1:28:18They see there we go. We got the truth to it. 10 years
- 1:28:20later he rose up. But I guess.
- 1:28:22He's still a hitched underneath the ground, Yeah, but then he
- 1:28:26also said 10 years ago, so that. Seems like it's maybe 40 years
- 1:28:29ago. It's all confusing.
- 1:28:32I need a timeline. Yeah.
- 1:28:33Chris Nash, please give us a written diagram.
- 1:28:36He Yeah. So like he he tells, I mean.
- 1:28:39That's where she's like, so the whole thing like it it actually
- 1:28:43happened. She's like, he's like, well,
- 1:28:45most of it, but not all of it's true.
- 1:28:47Yeah, yeah, it just is. Yeah.
- 1:28:48Johnny's a real 1. He did fuck people up and he is
- 1:28:51a real threat because we're in a sequel.
- 1:28:53We're in at least the third movie, yeah.
- 1:28:55This is in the in the franchise. So that's kind of.
- 1:28:59Nice. I love this here.
- 1:29:00So like, he has the gun on Johnny.
- 1:29:02He's like, all right. I'm gonna need you to go down
- 1:29:04there. I'm gonna need you to chain him
- 1:29:05up so we can drag him to the fire tower.
- 1:29:08And Colt, I can't do this. Why can't you do it?
- 1:29:11Colt? I'm too scared.
- 1:29:12But like, why would he not be too scared?
- 1:29:15To hold the gun. Cuz I always with the gun you
- 1:29:17can pull the trigger and just like you don't have to touch
- 1:29:19him. Except when the Ranger tries to
- 1:29:21pass in the gun Johnny. Grabs it so it's all too late
- 1:29:23and he tells Chris and Colt to run.
- 1:29:26He's like, you got to run, you got to.
- 1:29:27Go. And Johnny breaks the ranger's
- 1:29:29spine. Oh my God, yeah.
- 1:29:31This is full of Wolf Creek head on a stick.
- 1:29:34Like. The thing is like you think.
- 1:29:37He grabs him and he breaks his spine and he drops him and
- 1:29:41you're like, OK, I guess he thinks that he killed him.
- 1:29:44But he goes over to the building that's next to the center.
- 1:29:48And then you just hear a motor turn on.
- 1:29:50And I like last night you were like when a machine is running
- 1:29:54for that long. You know it's not good, you know
- 1:29:57it's something fucked up. It's going to happen, especially
- 1:29:59with the way. It sounds this is a fucking
- 1:30:03master class of building tension right here because I know what's
- 1:30:07going to happen. And then I hear that sound and
- 1:30:09it goes on for so long. And like seeing him slowly walk
- 1:30:12over and pick him up, knowing that this guy is still alive and
- 1:30:16dragging him over there. So he drags him in there and in
- 1:30:20there what he turned on is the little log cutting machine.
- 1:30:23It's such a slow log splitter, but I love it because he says
- 1:30:26the Ranger. Down where he can see it, he
- 1:30:28puts a log in there, shows exactly what it does.
- 1:30:30And it's not like a quick, it's so slow.
- 1:30:33It's like a Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo. Doo Doo Doo, it's like 1.
- 1:30:36Of those things like have you seen those videos of the?
- 1:30:39Hydraulic press. Yeah, the guy just like, just
- 1:30:41like breaking all kinds of a random show.
- 1:30:42Like, you think you could maybe not break this thing?
- 1:30:45Watch this. It does it.
- 1:30:46Yeah. Like, it just powers.
- 1:30:48That's exactly what this thing does.
- 1:30:50And here's I think where the difference is for us, because he
- 1:30:52does that. He's like, this is what this
- 1:30:54machine's going to do to you. And then he puts his arm in and
- 1:30:58he cuts the hand off and the Ranger doesn't really react.
- 1:31:00I don't know if it's because he's in shock, if it's because
- 1:31:02of the paralysis. He doesn't scream or anything.
- 1:31:05I think he just doesn't want to give him the satisfaction.
- 1:31:07And Johnny? Either is like all right, I
- 1:31:09don't have time for. This or OK, well, this is boring
- 1:31:12for me now. Either way.
- 1:31:15I think he was initially planning to chop him up bit by
- 1:31:18bit, and then he decided it wasn't worth it.
- 1:31:20And I like how crunch. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 1:31:23I feel like Johnny. Is very pragmatic.
- 1:31:24Yeah, so he was like, all right, cool.
- 1:31:27I guess we're just gonna go ahead and put your head in
- 1:31:28there. Could be.
- 1:31:29I think that he really. I'm of the thought that he
- 1:31:33wanted to demonstrate with the walk and they're like, all
- 1:31:35right, that's what it looks like on the walk.
- 1:31:37This is what it looks like on you now.
- 1:31:39You're gonna die, which I think is like, I think that tracks
- 1:31:43with his level of like showmanship and fucked up in
- 1:31:46this with how he kills these people.
- 1:31:49But either way, we cut to. Colt and Chris in the woods, and
- 1:31:53they've got like a whole plan. Like we see them with a gas can
- 1:31:56and some chains and they're like, yeah, Johnny's like in the
- 1:31:59airshine. He's like listening to them.
- 1:32:01Game plan. The entire thing Colts like I'm
- 1:32:03gonna. Distract him.
- 1:32:04And then too. Right up with the and Johnny
- 1:32:07hears all of this. And so when Colt comes up to
- 1:32:10him, Johnny is ready and immediately kills him.
- 1:32:12I love this. It's almost kind of funny
- 1:32:14because. He's like, hey, fuck Facey.
- 1:32:17That's not what he says. But like, it's basically, yeah.
- 1:32:20It's like Johnny like immediately turns around and
- 1:32:22just. Axes.
- 1:32:23Him right in the face and he's dead.
- 1:32:25This feels very Friday the 13th part 6 with Tommy.
- 1:32:28Yeah, that's how he taunts Jason.
- 1:32:30Yeah, but I love how he's like fuck that.
- 1:32:33And immediately. Just like gets him.
- 1:32:34And it's almost like, fuck, he didn't get to like, yeah, he's
- 1:32:37so amazing to die and enjoy this.
- 1:32:39Yeah, he's like, well, I know. Chris is nearby, so he's just
- 1:32:41like beating the ever loving fuck out of cult sports.
- 1:32:46It's animalistic, man. It is, and it's like the.
- 1:32:49Driver says at the end like. Animals don't have reason like
- 1:32:54like he. He takes the like the axe.
- 1:32:57And he's just like repeatedly bashed in his head.
- 1:33:00And Chris, Chris is in shock. I love this because.
- 1:33:03This is the part, this is where like it becomes a typical horror
- 1:33:08movie and it switches to like, how would this really play out?
- 1:33:12Because Chris is like. I don't stand a.
- 1:33:16Chance. It's crazy.
- 1:33:18Yeah, and she's watching this. And she just quietly sets the
- 1:33:21gas can. Down the chains, down.
- 1:33:22And she puts the necklace over top of the gas can.
- 1:33:25I think she realized at that point she's like, I think that's
- 1:33:27just what he wants. Yeah, she's like.
- 1:33:28I don't stand a chance. Here's his necklace maybe.
- 1:33:31I can tell somebody that he's loose, but either way, like, I'm
- 1:33:33not going to survive this. And she runs through the woods,
- 1:33:36and this is where we kind of switched to her POV.
- 1:33:39Yeah. It's like from like you get the
- 1:33:40same shots like that you've been getting from Johnny.
- 1:33:42Yes, and it's like from her and it's the same kind of like.
- 1:33:44And here's the thing. This is also really.
- 1:33:46Chilling I have talking about this, but like she's running
- 1:33:49through the woods and we hear these terrifying animal noises
- 1:33:53and it's just night time animal noises.
- 1:33:55But because this is not what we are accustomed to, this is not
- 1:33:58what we live with. It sounds terrifying.
- 1:34:01Well, it's not only that, but you are hearing Johnny still.
- 1:34:05Back. And that's the thing too, is
- 1:34:06that in the background you still hear the.
- 1:34:09But I wonder how much of that is real and how much.
- 1:34:12Because here's the thing, the woods are, especially at night
- 1:34:15and you don't know, tricky. I think that she could maybe be
- 1:34:19getting lost and accidentally tracking back and getting close
- 1:34:22and she's hearing it and that's freaking her out.
- 1:34:23So she's running. It continues running.
- 1:34:25I think she's just still hearing it in her head and she's every.
- 1:34:28Sound she's hearing, she's equating to him.
- 1:34:30That's a paranoia. I think that that was what it
- 1:34:32was, but I was also trying. To think practically like it
- 1:34:35could be both, it could potentially be that, but yeah,
- 1:34:37basically it's like. We're getting these same kind of
- 1:34:40time lapse shots. We know that it's like passing
- 1:34:42throughout the night. We see her running, we see her
- 1:34:45walking, we see her kind of jogging.
- 1:34:46At one point we see her fall and a branch has gone through her
- 1:34:49leg. Oh my God, pull that out.
- 1:34:51And that's gross. And she eventually makes.
- 1:34:53It to a road and she's like worn out.
- 1:34:56It's the next day. It's morning.
- 1:34:57Yeah. And.
- 1:34:59She is just like standing in the middle of the road.
- 1:35:01Out of energy. And she's just standing there
- 1:35:02and slowly walking and then a truck comes down and.
- 1:35:07And the driver pulls her in. And I, I just referred to the
- 1:35:10woman as the driver the whole time.
- 1:35:12Yeah. And then the driver is like you.
- 1:35:15Know gets her in there and she's like.
- 1:35:16Trying so hard to keep Chris engaged the whole time because
- 1:35:19she's really just trying to make sure she doesn't pass out and
- 1:35:21die. Yeah, basically, she can tell
- 1:35:23she's in shock. She can tell she's lost blood.
- 1:35:25She asked her what happened and Chris is like it was an animal.
- 1:35:28She what? Not entirely wrong.
- 1:35:31Yeah, yeah. I mean like, how do you, how do
- 1:35:33you describe that? Exactly.
- 1:35:35You could say as a person, but like when you see that like that
- 1:35:38was not a normal person. And this is where the driver is
- 1:35:42like again, just. Trying to talk to her.
- 1:35:43And she goes, well, my brother was involved in this thing with
- 1:35:46this bear. You know, there was a call a
- 1:35:49bear had attacked a bunch of animals.
- 1:35:51And he goes out there and he's trying to investigate what
- 1:35:53happened. And the bear attacks him.
- 1:35:55You know, she's like, you know, and he made out of it.
- 1:35:57He made it out of it. And so you and she goes, well,
- 1:36:00how did he make it out? And this is where we don't
- 1:36:03really get a full answer. She goes, well, he just kind of
- 1:36:05came to in the Creek. And by this point, the rest of
- 1:36:09the group had arrived. They call, they coppered him
- 1:36:12out. They choppered him out.
- 1:36:14I tried to say copter, I gotcha. Yeah, they chopper him out.
- 1:36:18They get him to a. Hospital over 100 stitches
- 1:36:20later, but he's still here, he's still alive.
- 1:36:22And she goes, well, why did the bear do that?
- 1:36:24And he goes well, they call it like hen house syndrome or hen
- 1:36:26house disease. And basically just, you know, a
- 1:36:28bear gets the taste of it and it kind of goes wild and you know,
- 1:36:32it just keeps killing and it won't stop because animals don't
- 1:36:36get too hung up on reason. And just for context, this
- 1:36:40scene. Goes on for maybe 10 minutes.
- 1:36:42Yeah, it's a, it's a very long like discussion and.
- 1:36:46The whole time you're like very intense.
- 1:36:47You're waiting that like there's like a lot of her just like
- 1:36:50having like small. Talk.
- 1:36:51So what happened? Where'd you come from?
- 1:36:53You know, show like that, but they're like you keep waiting
- 1:36:55for the other shoe to drop because we're so.
- 1:36:57Conditioned by horror movies that it's never really over and
- 1:37:00so like we're just waiting for like her to reveal like maybe
- 1:37:02she's Johnny's sister or see what I the thing that so.
- 1:37:07People have have problems with this ending, but I think it's a
- 1:37:11fucking great. I think it's amazing what The
- 1:37:15thing is. Maybe we should finish this.
- 1:37:18However, I do have a question. Do you think that her brother
- 1:37:23encountered Johnny? That was part of my question,
- 1:37:26but I don't think Johnny. Would have left anyone alive.
- 1:37:29Well, she made it out. Well, that's true.
- 1:37:32That's a good point, and so did the ranger's dad.
- 1:37:35So there's always. One survivor, maybe, and that's
- 1:37:38entirely impossible. There is a part of me that like
- 1:37:40wonders. That and they are doing an in a
- 1:37:42violent nature too and I wonder if maybe it'll be tied to her
- 1:37:45brother I. I'm very curious about the
- 1:37:48sequel. Yeah, I'm super excited.
- 1:37:50I kind of maybe hope it's a prequel with him.
- 1:37:53I don't know man. I I think it could.
- 1:37:56Be but I think it also I want to see what happens after too.
- 1:37:59OK. But yeah, so Chris?
- 1:38:02Like is nodding off at this point and she's not really
- 1:38:05responding. And the driver sees the pool of
- 1:38:06blood and she goes, Oh my God, hold on.
- 1:38:09I got to pull over. We got to tie this up.
- 1:38:11And Chris is like panning. And she's like, no, no, no,
- 1:38:12please keep driving. Please.
- 1:38:13I'll stay awake. I'll stay awake.
- 1:38:14And she's like, listen, I'm just going to do this real quick.
- 1:38:17I'm just going to take my belt and just kind of tie it up.
- 1:38:19And the whole time this is happening and it feels like an
- 1:38:21eternity. Yeah.
- 1:38:23Yeah. And like we're just staring out
- 1:38:24because we have been so conditioned by every movie we've
- 1:38:28seen in our entire lives. Well, not only that, but this
- 1:38:31movie, Yes. Like this movie you've?
- 1:38:33Seen how we operate and that's what I was going to.
- 1:38:35That's what I was getting to like the entire time, even
- 1:38:39building up to this, I have tension because like I know how
- 1:38:41he maneuvers. Like I'm already imagining him
- 1:38:44walking through the woods right now and like you're just staring
- 1:38:47into the woods and you're on the same.
- 1:38:49Headspace as her, every little shadow, every movement of the
- 1:38:52trees, you're like, is that him? Yeah, she's just, I guess, shots
- 1:38:55of like an empty forest and. Her like looking at it back and
- 1:38:59forth, it's so out from her and it just pans over the.
- 1:39:03Forest And eventually we get to the gas can and we see that the
- 1:39:06necklace is gone and that's where it leaves off.
- 1:39:09That's it. So Johnny took the necklace and
- 1:39:11he was happy. Yeah, he went back.
- 1:39:13Maybe. Unless he's actually out there
- 1:39:15in the woods. Maybe.
- 1:39:16That's where the second one picks up.
- 1:39:17That's true. Good because he he moves slowly
- 1:39:20and it could be. Night time by the time he gets
- 1:39:22there, but he he catches up always he gets there.
- 1:39:26So, yeah, that's how it ends. Yeah.
- 1:39:29All right, so where are you changing it?
- 1:39:32I'm gonna bump it up to a 9.5, all right.
- 1:39:37I'm keep in mind that's in man. This movie.
- 1:39:39Checks every fucking box I have. It exceeded every expectation I
- 1:39:44have for this movie. I think the only thing I'd
- 1:39:46change is like some of those shots with the college.
- 1:39:48Kids. College kids, What do you mean?
- 1:39:52Just like some of their like. Dialogue and.
- 1:39:54Stuff. See.
- 1:39:55That's the thing. Like I feel like it plays
- 1:39:57perfectly into. The tropes and like being like
- 1:40:03AB horror movie, which is exactly what I set out to do,
- 1:40:07which if you don't like it, that's fine, but like you know,
- 1:40:09I thought that that like it suited it perfectly because I
- 1:40:12like I know the movie that's happening right here.
- 1:40:14So much of it is strong that like I wish it was.
- 1:40:18It didn't just feel quite as I felt it.
- 1:40:20I wish it felt like intentionally still did compared
- 1:40:24to it doesn't feel like that though.
- 1:40:25I it. Did to me but.
- 1:40:27If it doesn't to you, I get it, yeah.
- 1:40:29OK, all right. What did Talia think of this?
- 1:40:35OK, well, she was very sleepy at first.
- 1:40:37She was. Like I've seen the woods, I love
- 1:40:40leaves. We're not.
- 1:40:42Fun fact with Talia, if you take her for a walk in the fall you
- 1:40:45are not allowed to pick up a leaf.
- 1:40:47She will immediately take that shit from your hand and leave.
- 1:40:49This is true on the ground. She's also allergic to pine
- 1:40:52trees. I don't know if.
- 1:40:53There were any pine trees out there, but they're probably
- 1:40:55where it was, the woods. Yeah.
- 1:40:56She didn't care for that, though.
- 1:40:58She did. Not enjoy the.
- 1:40:59Horn section. When Johnny set off the horn,
- 1:41:03no, she like, her ears went straight back and she kind of
- 1:41:05stared at the screen. She was like, I don't like this,
- 1:41:07like this Johnny fella. Yeah, she's like what the fuck
- 1:41:09is his? Problem.
- 1:41:10She does appreciate his. Appreciation for cars, yes.
- 1:41:14And then she got the hiccups throughout the.
- 1:41:16Whole like third act like she was very tense with Chris.
- 1:41:20So I think she would give this A10, but there was like maybe a
- 1:41:23dead dog at the beginning. We don't know what animal it
- 1:41:25was. So I think she's going to be
- 1:41:26right there with me. It's a 9.5.
- 1:41:28She won't deduct the full point. Yeah, it was dog like, which is
- 1:41:31enough. For her, it's enough.
- 1:41:32She was like. I will give it the benefit of
- 1:41:34the doubt. But I don't like it.
- 1:41:35OK, All right. I think it did scare her though.
- 1:41:38OK, yeah, so I was thinking it was Zoe, obviously the.
- 1:41:41Ultimate Warrior is going to be Johnny because he doesn't give
- 1:41:44up, but we need to figure out which point in the movie does
- 1:41:47she respect Johnny the most. OK.
- 1:41:49That's a good question, I think. That's a great question.
- 1:41:57See Zoe likes. To fuck with her prey too, I
- 1:42:00think. Honestly I think it's with the
- 1:42:01Ranger When? She is like, we're just gonna go
- 1:42:05ahead and cut your head off now because she gets like that.
- 1:42:08Like she'll chase something down and when she gets it to a
- 1:42:10certain point, she kinda like, she'll either look at it like if
- 1:42:12she gets a bug or something, she'll chase it down.
- 1:42:14And when she gets it to a point, she kinda looks at it.
- 1:42:16She's like, I'm done with this. Can you just do the rest?
- 1:42:21I agree with that, but see it's. Either that.
- 1:42:24One or I think Aaron because she likes to carry it around.
- 1:42:28That's true. And she carried, he carried
- 1:42:31Aaron. A long.
- 1:42:32Fucking and wow, and she likes to leave the bodies in.
- 1:42:36Very strategic places. And I feel like she did that the
- 1:42:38most with Aaron. I think that's true.
- 1:42:40Yeah. Like because he is.
- 1:42:42I mean, granted. He's using Aaron as like.
- 1:42:45A device, yeah, but and. That's kind of how Zoe.
- 1:42:48Uses like her toy. Mooses like she likes to leave
- 1:42:51them. She's like, you are my chosen 1
- 1:42:53today if here you go. If this ever were turned into a
- 1:42:56video game I want like. If you have a door that's locked
- 1:43:00and you need a key, you have to kill somebody.
- 1:43:01That way you have a body and that's your key.
- 1:43:03I thought you were gonna say that would be.
- 1:43:06How you would like have a flag for a save point?
- 1:43:09Like you have to leave a body part there.
- 1:43:11That would be good too. Yeah.
- 1:43:12But I think like if you need to get into a building like.
- 1:43:14Shit, I need a corpse. Yeah, where can I tell you I
- 1:43:17need to throw it through the door?
- 1:43:19OK. OK, so Ranger station then?
- 1:43:24Aaron Ranger Station, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:43:30Dream sequel. What are you hoping from?
- 1:43:32Because this has been. Announced.
- 1:43:33Yep, there's a sequel. They have officially green
- 1:43:36lighted. And in violent.
- 1:43:38Nature. Too stoked for that.
- 1:43:40I can't wait. So OK.
- 1:43:42MY2 possible options are. Surprise prequel.
- 1:43:45We don't know that it's a prequel until near the end when
- 1:43:48we find out it's the driver's brother surviving that is
- 1:43:50hacking the Creek. That could work.
- 1:43:52Like we see a whole story play out before then and then all of
- 1:43:55a sudden like, oh man, he's there.
- 1:43:57Maybe. Did she say how long ago it was?
- 1:44:00Because maybe it was 10 years ago.
- 1:44:02I don't think she did when the Rangers family was also killed.
- 1:44:05That's a great point though, you're right.
- 1:44:07It could be that I think. That could be real fun, or it
- 1:44:10immediately. Picks up at the very end of the
- 1:44:13first one, and we were all right to be paranoid, but I kind of
- 1:44:17don't want it to do that because I like this, as bleak as it is.
- 1:44:21I kind of like that we're left with her paranoia and how she's
- 1:44:24always going to be looking over her shoulder because that feels
- 1:44:26realistic. I think that that's fine to
- 1:44:28leave it with her. I don't think she's ever going.
- 1:44:30To be back. So she doesn't need to be in the
- 1:44:32sequel. OK, so yeah, but if he is still
- 1:44:35out. There.
- 1:44:36You know, I think like, it sounded like the Ranger said the
- 1:44:42only way to put him down is you have to put him down at the fire
- 1:44:47tower. And The thing is, he's not down.
- 1:44:50He got the necklace and he could just be awakened and he needs to
- 1:44:55be brought down in order to, you know, not be around anymore.
- 1:45:00So I think that he's out there, so and I think that he's still a
- 1:45:03part of, you know, nature. So I don't know, like, does she
- 1:45:09go back and does she tell people what happened or does she stick
- 1:45:13with the story that it was an animal?
- 1:45:15Because there's gotta be a new crew of people that go in there?
- 1:45:18Yeah, it's just territorial stays in.
- 1:45:21She would need to like, she'd have to be like going.
- 1:45:24Around town and finding people. Who had been there?
- 1:45:26For a while and knew about like the Johnny lore so or I could
- 1:45:31completely. Disregard her, the woman drops
- 1:45:36her off. And then we.
- 1:45:38Pick it up with her because she's from the area.
- 1:45:41Yeah, she's from the area. She's a very much established.
- 1:45:44Horror person too and she like fucking her monologue.
- 1:45:48To be able to go on for 10 minutes and just be completely
- 1:45:51captivating I think is really impressive.
- 1:45:53So she could carry. Begs the question, does she
- 1:45:56actually know about them? But also the other thing is too,
- 1:45:59we don't really want it to. Pick it up with a protagonist we
- 1:46:03want to like, pick back up with Johnny.
- 1:46:05That's true. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:46:08So what is he? Maybe he Shit, you're right.
- 1:46:11I like my surprise prequel idea. I think it could.
- 1:46:14Work, but if I'm being honest see it.
- 1:46:16Like he's in the woods and we see like a.
- 1:46:19Truck drive away. So we think it's the end of this
- 1:46:22one, but it's see, here's the thing I don't want.
- 1:46:26It to be a prequel, though. I wanted like, I mean, I guess
- 1:46:29you could do whatever you want, like after, if that's still
- 1:46:31good. But like, I want it to continue.
- 1:46:34I don't want it to be like, well, this is where that ends.
- 1:46:37We can only explore the past. I want to see what happens
- 1:46:40afterwards. He's a part of nature at this
- 1:46:43point. Yeah.
- 1:46:44And he's not going away. So something's, you know, I
- 1:46:49mean, that's just how it is. So I don't know.
- 1:46:53I think that they have an interesting task.
- 1:46:55Yes. I don't know how they're going
- 1:46:57to do this that they come up with, yeah.
- 1:46:59I have a more. Important question for you now.
- 1:47:01Yeah. Who did you relate to?
- 1:47:03That is a good question. That's a tough one.
- 1:47:15All right, I'll go then while you think.
- 1:47:16Go. For me it would be.
- 1:47:18Aurora, because I would be very excited to do some like lake
- 1:47:21dock yoga and then just to be found out like it's a beauty
- 1:47:24call. I'd be like, it wouldn't be as
- 1:47:27disappointing if you'd just told me from the get go, you know
- 1:47:29what I mean? Like I came out here ready to
- 1:47:32get Zen. That's true.
- 1:47:34And I'm I'm a little bit annoyed.
- 1:47:35I get that. OK.
- 1:47:37I came out here from my. Own not my own, you know what I
- 1:47:40mean? Yeah.
- 1:47:42All right. I think I.
- 1:47:44I'm going to pick Aaron because I like his aesthetic.
- 1:47:48Yes, I like. He's got the flannels, He's got
- 1:47:50the little, like the many layers.
- 1:47:52Yeah, the messy hair. The messy hair I like.
- 1:47:55I like the tape recorder thing, yeah.
- 1:47:57You know what I mean? I mean, we have like a record
- 1:48:00player, so we have the whole. Aesthetic thing going on, yeah.
- 1:48:03And I got, I still got tapes in my car, yeah.
- 1:48:06Exactly actually so. I also like the whole.
- 1:48:09Idea of like, you know, being like the campfire, like war
- 1:48:13teller. Yeah.
- 1:48:14Thing, You know what I mean? Like, yeah, that's cool.
- 1:48:16I've never done that myself, but I would like to do that one day.
- 1:48:20Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:48:21All right. So that's what I relate to.
- 1:48:23It's hard. To.
- 1:48:23Relate to a lot of these characters because we just get
- 1:48:25like small snippets. Yeah.
- 1:48:28So they're very like generalized people.
- 1:48:31Yeah. So it's, it's really hard.
- 1:48:32I don't relate to Johnny. I'm.
- 1:48:35I'm glad to hear that. Yeah.
- 1:48:38OK, so. Does that mean we have our
- 1:48:41tagline time now? We do have our tagline.
- 1:48:44How do we? How do we top the tagline for
- 1:48:47this all? Right, let's see Johnny be good.
- 1:48:57God damn. It Yes.
- 1:48:58OK, Johnny be Johnny, be good. OK.
- 1:49:02Whatever I. Also want everybody to know how
- 1:49:05proud Travis. Was today earlier.
- 1:49:06Because we had it on Pluto TV and the ruins came on and we
- 1:49:09will always put it on the ruins when that comes on and we're
- 1:49:13watching it. And he looks at Talia Italia.
- 1:49:17Do you think their vacation was ruined?
- 1:49:20And Talia like. Is great at like those just like
- 1:49:24like the Jim Halpert kind of stare.
- 1:49:26It was great. He was so he was so proud of
- 1:49:29himself. I just don't know.
- 1:49:29Everybody didn't know that, so he's been.
- 1:49:31Riding that high all day and he gets to continue with Johnny.
- 1:49:33Be good. Yeah.
- 1:49:34Yeah, baby. All right.
- 1:49:36So are. We ready for some reviews?
- 1:49:38Yes. All right, Yeah.
- 1:49:42Man, I posted that reviews call for reviews say so there could
- 1:49:44be. Some I'll check them in a little
- 1:49:46bit, but we're going to start off with our Internet review and
- 1:49:50I pulled us a little IMDb review OK, so this is a 5 out of 10 OK
- 1:49:59and I chose it because they had some good criticisms OK, that a
- 1:50:02lot of people relate to yes, I'm glad to hear like actual
- 1:50:05thoughts. I thought it.
- 1:50:06Was boring. Yeah.
- 1:50:07So this is a 5. Out, yeah, A5 out of. 10 It's
- 1:50:11titled Admirable New approach to the genre but over hyped all
- 1:50:15right in a violent nature as a slasher film shot.
- 1:50:19Mostly from the perspective. Of the undead killer named
- 1:50:22Johnny. While I appreciated the unusual
- 1:50:24approach, most of the film for me felt devoid of any major
- 1:50:28tension. It was many lingering shots of
- 1:50:30the killer just walking through the woods.
- 1:50:32For the most part it is just a by the number slasher movie with
- 1:50:36one really inventive killer during a yoga scene.
- 1:50:39I appreciated some of the gory killers and practical effects.
- 1:50:42Unfortunately some of the acting was not up to par.
- 1:50:45The line deliveries were extremely wooden.
- 1:50:47The best actor was the woman driving the car at the end of
- 1:50:50the film. The ending of the film was very
- 1:50:53anticlimactic. The film wasn't a disaster but I
- 1:50:56felt it was over hyped by the critics.
- 1:50:59So I obviously I agree about the wooden.
- 1:51:01Delivery of some of the lines, 'cause that was one of my main
- 1:51:04criticisms. And that's honestly what held me
- 1:51:06back from, like, giving it a full 10.
- 1:51:09I see. I see people's argument that
- 1:51:12they don't like the ending of it because it feels unresolved.
- 1:51:15And in a lot of ways, it really is.
- 1:51:17I mean, that's why you don't want a prequel.
- 1:51:19You want to know what happens after, you know, Yeah, And I get
- 1:51:22that. I fully understand that and I
- 1:51:25understand why people don't love it.
- 1:51:27But I also think if you're somebody that's watched like a
- 1:51:29shit ton of horror movies and you kind of always wonder if it
- 1:51:32like, OK, but what if the killer didn't pop up at the end?
- 1:51:36Like I kind of like this idea of it and.
- 1:51:38She's just going to be. Fucking paranoid for the rest of
- 1:51:40her life. I love it.
- 1:51:41I just like how. I mean, I don't love it for
- 1:51:43Chris, but like I. Love the way the movie did.
- 1:51:45This no I I like it because it's a way of the.
- 1:51:49Like they're fucking with you, like the like, like at the end,
- 1:51:52like they've built this whole thing up.
- 1:51:54Like you know how he operates and you like, you have this
- 1:51:58feeling like, well, we've seen him, We know he's coming.
- 1:52:01We know he's going to show up eventually.
- 1:52:03And The thing is, the longer it goes on, the longer you think,
- 1:52:08like the more you think, oh, something's gonna happen.
- 1:52:10Because if if we're still on this for this long, that's gotta
- 1:52:14like have a pay off. Like there's going to be
- 1:52:15something come up. Absolutely.
- 1:52:17And it just it fucking toys with you.
- 1:52:20And like after the fact, like I feel like I respect the fact
- 1:52:24like, oh fuck, I got got like they they got me.
- 1:52:27Like I thought he was going to come and they didn't.
- 1:52:29And it worked. The tension.
- 1:52:30That's a testament to how good they were at building up
- 1:52:34attention and how like good they were at establishing how he
- 1:52:38functions. Because like I was like, I'm
- 1:52:40already picturing in my head exactly his movements, what's
- 1:52:44going to happen? And I I understand why this
- 1:52:47ending doesn't work for. People, if you want like an
- 1:52:49actual solid resolution. I get why this is unsatisfying.
- 1:52:54Personally I love it because they've just fucked with your
- 1:52:57head so much. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:52:58It's so good for that, OK. And I also love the fact that
- 1:53:02it's by the numbers, because that's.
- 1:53:04The whole point, Yeah, by the numbers, but from a completely
- 1:53:08different perspective. Yeah, I like that.
- 1:53:11OK, on to listener reviews. OK, so First off, Kendra, she,
- 1:53:19she chimed in on. Instagram.
- 1:53:21Saying you mean the hiking minion movie see exactly and I
- 1:53:26just when he put on the mask. I was like, he's got two eyes
- 1:53:31still, but I guess some of the minions, some of the minions do.
- 1:53:33Yeah, right. Shit.
- 1:53:35Damn it. OK, yes.
- 1:53:37Kendra, that's what we were talking about.
- 1:53:39Yeah. All right.
- 1:53:41And you know, what grew is evil. He is.
- 1:53:44He is. That's his whole thing.
- 1:53:45That's true. All right.
- 1:53:47Cube save. Says love this.
- 1:53:49One Yoga Kiel is so damn good. Fuck yes.
- 1:53:52Yeah, that's the highway. Although like I know a lot of
- 1:53:54people. Say that's the scene.
- 1:53:55And I would agree, but I also think the walk cutting scene,
- 1:53:59there's two scenes for me. If you're saying this scene, I'm
- 1:54:02like, which one are you talking about?
- 1:54:03Are you talking about that one? Are you talking about the walk
- 1:54:04cutting? No, for me it's definitely the
- 1:54:07yoga scene. But then if I think.
- 1:54:08About like memorable moments. I also add in the log splitter
- 1:54:11and Aaron being dragged through the woods.
- 1:54:14See The thing is, I think the walks splitter is the meanest.
- 1:54:18Yes, it's definitely the meanest, but yoga?
- 1:54:21Kill is the gnarliest. Yeah, he had beef with that guy
- 1:54:24and I think he wanted to like. Really get his revenge that
- 1:54:27time. All right, moving over to
- 1:54:29Twitter we got Ward Zombie who says?
- 1:54:31As a big fan of slasher films I love this movie.
- 1:54:34It seemed boring to some but I loved the whole thing.
- 1:54:36He had some good humour, wacky kills and a crazy ending.
- 1:54:40Even gave me an idea for a tabletop game today.
- 1:54:43Big recommend for a zombie if you make the.
- 1:54:48Tabletop. RPG I'm.
- 1:54:49Assuming it's an RPG. Yeah, I hope it's an RPG.
- 1:54:53Share it. Please share it.
- 1:54:54I'm curious too. Yeah, that sounds interesting.
- 1:54:57Yes. Yeah, I'm glad that you liked it
- 1:54:59though. And.
- 1:55:00I'm. Glad that you mentioned the
- 1:55:02humor too, cuz it's pretty. I think there's some really
- 1:55:05fucking funny moments, Yeah, I think they they strike.
- 1:55:08A Like a humorous chord with. Like the college kids.
- 1:55:11But I also think when he throws, like, his body, I think that
- 1:55:14that was meant to be funny. It really.
- 1:55:16And it really fucking is. Yeah.
- 1:55:18Like last. Night watching it, I was just
- 1:55:20like, Oh my God. And that's why when you brought
- 1:55:22it up at the beginning of this episode, I lost my shit because
- 1:55:25it's so funny. Yeah, OK.
- 1:55:27Next. We have Tyler, who I think is
- 1:55:29this is the one that you, yes, it definitely is.
- 1:55:31Who says I don't know if you all have played?
- 1:55:33The Friday the 13th. Game but this is literally what
- 1:55:36it's like playing it's Jason. This was a relatively slow but
- 1:55:39fun ride. Very unique perspective too.
- 1:55:41The yoga kill was bonkers, but the Rangers death scene,
- 1:55:44honestly, it really disturbed me.
- 1:55:45It's so long. Eight out, ten.
- 1:55:48There we are. So, yeah, yeah, just like both
- 1:55:50of them there. Yeah, I, I that's the thing.
- 1:55:52Yeah. I think the yoga kill is fucking
- 1:55:54intense. And then the Ranger's death is
- 1:55:57like, it's just so mean. And I know a lot of people say
- 1:56:00this movie is slow, but I really don't think it.
- 1:56:02Is it keeps going? Yeah, there are a few shots of
- 1:56:05like Johnny walking through the woods, but I don't think it's
- 1:56:08not like they go on for 5 minutes at a time.
- 1:56:10Yeah, I think it's, it's like I said before, it's surprisingly.
- 1:56:13Well paced and also I have played the Friday the 13th game.
- 1:56:16Unfortunately, I played it whenever it was a dead
- 1:56:18community, but you know, it's cool.
- 1:56:21I like the Texas Chainsaw 1, though.
- 1:56:23I know it's completely different, but with Jason you're
- 1:56:25able to teleport around. Yeah.
- 1:56:27So that kind of explains like, you know, you get some of the
- 1:56:29jump cuts, stuff like that. I can totally see it.
- 1:56:32OK, I think that's it. OK, Yeah, I don't think we.
- 1:56:37Got anybody else? OK, well then that's it.
- 1:56:39For in a violent nature, yeah. And.
- 1:56:41Next week I'm going to say real quick though, we'll make my.
- 1:56:45Declaration like I did the first time we watched Terrify, but I
- 1:56:48think we got on our hands a new horror slasher icon.
- 1:56:54I Absolutely I. Think it's gonna end with the
- 1:56:57sequel? Johnny yes, I think.
- 1:56:59I think we got. Somebody here you got.
- 1:57:00Somebody on your hands right there.
- 1:57:02That can make an impact. It's awesome.
- 1:57:05So, OK, moving on, what we got coming up next, next we are back
- 1:57:09to our franchise shoot. Yeah.
- 1:57:11We got Brad a Chalky, which means we.
- 1:57:13Finally. Get.
- 1:57:16Jennifer Tilly. Yes, we do.
- 1:57:19Yeah. So bridal Chucky currently.
- 1:57:22Streaming on Netflix. But you can also rent it from
- 1:57:24YouTube, Google Play, Fandango at home or Prime, rent the
- 1:57:28fucking movie or subscribe to Netflix or.
- 1:57:33Own the movie man. This is a good fucking movie.
- 1:57:35It is such a good movie. This is one of my favorite
- 1:57:37Child's Play movies. It is I.
