- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, y'all.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I'm Timp Bailey and I'm here in Boulder to sit
- 0:04Speaker 2: down with one of the biggest names in college football,
- 0:07Speaker 2: coach Prime.
- 0:08Speaker 3: This is the day. We've been talking about it all week.
- 0:10Speaker 3: It's time to put up.
- 0:11Speaker 2: This is about leadership and what it.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Takes the same time.
- 0:15Speaker 4: Should keep the same during the distance.
- 0:17Speaker 3: To build something real in today's game.
- 0:19Speaker 2: School, make our dream come true. As a former athlete
- 0:23Speaker 2: a young kid growing up, you were my idol, I appreciator.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Make me cry already, man, Oh yes I am.
- 0:31Speaker 2: There's a different level of attention here anywhere in the country.
- 0:35Speaker 2: You seem like you welcome it.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I welcome in. I love it. But sometimes my staff,
- 0:40Speaker 3: coaching staff, and the kids ain't Bill pull got you
- 0:43Speaker 3: come in me shooting me I can have.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Things aren't working right now at Colorado.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Boff's struggling here at Dion Sanders and his Colorado teams trying.
- 0:51Speaker 2: To get with it. Let's talk about the state of
- 0:54Speaker 2: the team now. Things have not panned out like you.
- 0:57Speaker 3: We miss this because we missed on several plays. But
- 1:01Speaker 3: being on this side, I understand the nature and the
- 1:03Speaker 3: process of major college football and everybody wants somebody to blame,
- 1:08Speaker 3: so you gotta say, hey man, it's me. So we're
- 1:12Speaker 3: gonna take it, and I'm gonna take that responsibility. And
- 1:15Speaker 3: I gotta do better. I gotta do better in making
- 1:18Speaker 3: sure these kids are prepared for each game, each play,
- 1:21Speaker 3: each moment. And it's not too big for.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Juju the youngster. The four Star steps to the forefront.
- 1:29Speaker 2: One freshman in particular, I've been watching since his freshman
- 1:32Speaker 2: year in high school, Julian Lewis. Yeah, Juju, it's his
- 1:35Speaker 2: first start in his collegiate career. How crazy is that? Though?
- 1:39Speaker 3: It's crazy? Yeah, yeah, Sometimes in life you're forced into
- 1:42Speaker 3: doing what you should have done. He still got some
- 1:45Speaker 3: hiccups because he's young. I'm still on his butt about
- 1:48Speaker 3: preparation and understanding down and this is just little things.
- 1:53Speaker 3: There's a lot of leadership qualities that he has to
- 1:56Speaker 3: develop to be that guy that you saw in high school.
- 1:59Speaker 3: But this is a different game. We're gonna winness game.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We're gonna win this game bout ten points, sir.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Let's go do it.
- 2:07Speaker 2: The one thing you try to do with these kids
- 2:09Speaker 2: here is turn these boys into men, and the men, right,
- 2:12Speaker 2: what is this consistent thing that people will say about
- 2:15Speaker 2: their experience as the elite come to.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Colorado and lead the standard and the expectation. We do
- 2:21Speaker 3: things in a certain way. We're gonna be professionals. The discipline
- 2:25Speaker 3: is vital here. We talked about love last week, but
- 2:28Speaker 3: how can you develop love in the football? Well, anything
- 2:31Speaker 3: you love you give to you don't give it to me.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Spec the THELM time, practice habits, you know, going hard
- 2:37Speaker 3: to practice, going everyday, and everything you got in the game,
- 2:40Speaker 3: you don't love this. You're looking for cats who love this,
- 2:42Speaker 3: and I'm trying to teach them how to be men. Simultaneous.
- 2:45Speaker 3: I'm gonna give them everything I got because they've given
- 2:49Speaker 3: me everything they bade. You gonna want this game like
- 2:52Speaker 3: you never wanted to before. You gotta dominate the god in
- 2:55Speaker 3: front of you. Do not give them nothing, make him
- 2:58Speaker 3: take it from them.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Ur Chad. We haven't really seen Dion out there talking
- 3:08Speaker 1: to too many people. What was it like for you
- 3:10Speaker 1: being across.
- 3:11Speaker 2: From you know, he was very candid. I mean whether
- 3:15Speaker 2: we were on camera or off camera. One thing people
- 3:17Speaker 2: have to realize is Prime is about preparation and people
- 3:23Speaker 2: just see the finished product. The confidence, you know, the
- 3:28Speaker 2: aura that comes off as arrogance, but people don't really
- 3:31Speaker 2: see how much he works and prepares and how he
- 3:33Speaker 2: loves on these kids. You know, we have to put
- 3:36Speaker 2: in perspective what he's dealing with. There's about eight plus
- 3:40Speaker 2: players that were on his team last year that are
- 3:42Speaker 2: playing in the NFL. Right now, you lost a lot
- 3:45Speaker 2: of talent at a place like Colorado. How do you
- 3:48Speaker 2: turn that back over and continue to win? Now they
- 3:51Speaker 2: enter the Big Twelve, that gauntlet, and we all know
- 3:54Speaker 2: how tough the Big Twelve is top to bottom. They
- 3:57Speaker 2: probably have one of the toughest schedules in the country
- 4:00Speaker 2: up to this point. I'm telling you it's not the same.
- 4:04Speaker 2: So for him, now he think about the decision to
- 4:08Speaker 2: play Juju's. He's been trying to protect this kid and
- 4:14Speaker 2: his intro into college sports or on this team. But
- 4:19Speaker 2: now you go into this game a mons when you
- 4:21Speaker 2: got two of your tackles out and it almost feels
- 4:24Speaker 2: like it's still premature. But Prime knows he has to
- 4:27Speaker 2: do it. He had, this kid's probably ready to do it. Now,
- 4:30Speaker 2: let's see if they can go out there and get
- 4:31Speaker 2: it done.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I'm rooting for.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Prime because I know how hardy works, it's just at
- 4:37Speaker 2: a place like Colorado, how do you get the talent?
- 4:39Speaker 2: And as a former player, Prime knows, it's all about
- 4:42Speaker 2: the players. You don't have talent, you're not gonna win games.
- 4:45Speaker 1: To your point, they have faced the second toughest schedule
- 4:47Speaker 1: in the nation thus far through Week ten. The only
- 4:50Speaker 1: team with a harder schedule Florida. So it's not just puff,
- 4:54Speaker 1: it is actuality, and it's a pivotal moment for them
- 4:57Speaker 1: right now.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 5: I think every team in every program has down years,
- 5:01Speaker 5: right only difference is primes down years get a bigger
- 5:04Speaker 5: microscope put on them because of who he is, because
- 5:06Speaker 5: of how he arrived in Colorado, and because of the
- 5:08Speaker 5: early successes that he's had. So I think that's what
- 5:11Speaker 5: we're facing here. But if I'm a young kid sitting
- 5:13Speaker 5: at home watching Prime hearing that conversation with Champ, how
- 5:16Speaker 5: could you not want to go play for him? How
- 5:18Speaker 5: could you not want to be a part of that
- 5:20Speaker 5: special organization and that special team and that special thing
- 5:24Speaker 5: that he's built there that is only going to get
- 5:27Speaker 5: better year in the year out.
- 5:28Speaker 4: The biggest thing that I took away from their conversation
- 5:31Speaker 4: is a couple of guys that they brought in they
- 5:34Speaker 4: missed on, And he didn't say that, but he said
- 5:36Speaker 4: that in a roundabout way, you got thirty eight seniors
- 5:39Speaker 4: on this team and a big majority of them or
- 5:43Speaker 4: guys you brought in from the portal, and when you
- 5:46Speaker 4: miss on those, which is equivalent to missing as an
- 5:50Speaker 4: NFL team as a free agent, it really sets you back.
- 5:53Speaker 4: So I'm sure he said that we're going to get
- 5:56Speaker 4: it straight, and so I'm curious to see what will
- 5:59Speaker 4: be the method of building something sustainable moving forward. At
- 6:04Speaker 4: some point, you got to go in and get younger
- 6:06Speaker 4: players to be able to develop them.
- 6:08Speaker 2: One thing he did mention is he knows he can't
- 6:11Speaker 2: go get thirty freshmen and think he's gonna compete. So
- 6:14Speaker 2: when you talk about missing on players, yeah, those transfer
- 6:17Speaker 2: guys have to compete right now and be productive because
- 6:20Speaker 2: you can't develop. You can't afford to risk developing players
- 6:24Speaker 2: and think they're going to stick around. It's just not
- 6:26Speaker 2: the nature of the game.
- 6:27Speaker 1: We're going to see the development of juju today.
