- 0:26Speaker 2: It's ESPN's Jeff Legwall. Good morning, Leggy. How are you
- 0:29Speaker 2: doing good?
- 0:30Speaker 3: How are you guys?
- 0:31Speaker 2: We're hanging in there, you know, Moses shaking off the
- 0:34Speaker 2: cobwebs of a rough travel day yesterday, but we're making
- 0:38Speaker 2: it through on a Thursday. Did you have any terrible
- 0:41Speaker 2: wind damage at your house last night?
- 0:44Speaker 3: No, I was lucky.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Good, good, Well, We're thrilled to hear it. Broncos and
- 0:48Speaker 2: Jags coming up, Sean Payton. Yesterday Jeff talked about the
- 0:51Speaker 2: twenty four hour rule and how well this team's been
- 0:53Speaker 2: doing compartmentalizing and moving on. Any chance you feel they
- 0:57Speaker 2: could have a hangover from a big win over the Packers.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Now it's not been their moo this year. Is I
- 1:05Speaker 4: think when you win as many close games as they.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Do, you don't really I don't.
- 1:11Speaker 4: I don't think you get too wrapped up and how
- 1:13Speaker 4: great you are. You just had an escape. Really But
- 1:17Speaker 4: but I think that is one of the the good
- 1:20Speaker 4: things about this team, is that good or bad. They
- 1:24Speaker 4: kind of just keep plodding along, you know, doing their thing,
- 1:28Speaker 4: and they don't much care about the sort of the
- 1:33Speaker 4: you know, the the little bow bells and whistles. People
- 1:37Speaker 4: may want to stick to games, so you know, they don't.
- 1:40Speaker 3: They don't really do that.
- 1:42Speaker 5: I need to ask you about availability of some of
- 1:44Speaker 5: these players. First of all, yesterday R. J. Harvey, when
- 1:48Speaker 5: Champagne was asked, he said he's fine.
- 1:51Speaker 3: He says that about everybody. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 5: When he said that, I was like, Okay, is he
- 1:56Speaker 5: saying that because you don't want to point to an injury,
- 1:59Speaker 5: especially run back with a rib injury, and actually make
- 2:02Speaker 5: him a target out there. How fine do you think
- 2:04Speaker 5: he is?
- 2:06Speaker 3: Well? I think he is.
- 2:07Speaker 4: He looked you know in the part part of practice
- 2:10Speaker 4: we see is moving well and doing all those things.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I keep an eye, you know.
- 2:14Speaker 4: It's one of the things I do in camp because
- 2:16Speaker 4: I watch guys when they're they're most healthy, so you
- 2:19Speaker 4: can tell if something's going on later in the year.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Uh So he did. He looked very good. Yesterday.
- 2:27Speaker 4: And you know, even when they took him out of
- 2:29Speaker 4: the game Sunday, they did not take his helmet. So
- 2:32Speaker 4: that told me, you know, conceivably, if if they had
- 2:36Speaker 4: needed him down the stretch in that game, he probably
- 2:40Speaker 4: would have gone back in.
- 2:41Speaker 5: Has there been any site at all of JK. Dobbins
- 2:45Speaker 5: working on the side. Is he out of a cast?
- 2:47Speaker 5: Anybody seen him?
- 2:50Speaker 3: I saw.
- 2:50Speaker 4: I talked to him probably a week ago when I
- 2:54Speaker 4: was walking over to practice and he was still on
- 2:59Speaker 4: one of those scooters they use to get around the
- 3:03Speaker 4: all of the to the weight room and everything around.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So I think he's still at scooter level.
- 3:11Speaker 6: Have you ever been Have you ever had a scooter? No?
- 3:15Speaker 6: They suck. I mean trying to get around on the
- 3:17Speaker 6: scooters of paint in the tail man, You're crashing the doors,
- 3:20Speaker 6: you fall over curbs. It's it stinks that that's kind
- 3:24Speaker 6: of a bummer man, because that tells me that he's
- 3:25Speaker 6: still a ways away. Dude, Jeffy's still away.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean sometimes you know, I think you know,
- 3:32Speaker 4: when when Sean Payton said it, I think he was
- 3:35Speaker 4: referring to if they make the Super Bowl, Uh, he
- 3:40Speaker 4: may be better. Okay, Okay, that's kind of that's kind
- 3:42Speaker 4: of how I took it and the timeline I had
- 3:46Speaker 4: been had given. You know, maybe he does a little better.
- 3:49Speaker 4: But like I say, I saw him a week ago
- 3:51Speaker 4: and spoke to him, and he was he was nipping
- 3:53Speaker 4: around on the scooter still.
- 3:55Speaker 6: I was talking to Matt Smith a short while ago.
- 3:57Speaker 6: That's this guy right here feeling for Brett, And I said, man,
- 4:00Speaker 6: I don't this This line doesn't feel right to me.
- 4:03Speaker 6: Twelve and two Broncos at home against a ten and
- 4:05Speaker 6: four Jags team that you know they've beating up on
- 4:08Speaker 6: some little sisters of the poor. I think it should
- 4:10Speaker 6: be more than three. But this feels pretty tight. What
- 4:14Speaker 6: what do you make of that?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Do you?
- 4:16Speaker 6: I mean, do you think people consider this to be
- 4:17Speaker 6: a really tight game? It's going to be a really
- 4:19Speaker 6: close game.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I guess if I was.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Of a betting inclination, and I'm not. You guys know,
- 4:28Speaker 4: neither my fee, neither my But I don't know how
- 4:31Speaker 4: you can say the Broncos wouldn't be in a close game.
- 4:33Speaker 4: They're always in a close game, they don't think. I
- 4:36Speaker 4: think maybe that's the actuarial table on them. I think
- 4:41Speaker 4: we all got to remember when you stand on the
- 4:44Speaker 4: strip in Vegas and look at the fountain in front
- 4:47Speaker 4: of the bellagio, that the house doesn't lose. So the
- 4:51Speaker 4: line isn't hey, I think this team's gonna win a
- 4:56Speaker 4: football thing. The line is a money thing. They're splitting
- 4:59Speaker 4: the money. So if they feel like it takes three
- 5:02Speaker 4: points to split the money, that's what they make.
- 5:05Speaker 2: It for, whatever it's worth. I just looked on online
- 5:09Speaker 2: and it did open Broncos minus five and a half.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It's now down to three, so money has come in
- 5:14Speaker 2: on Jacksonville to make that a closer getting no.
- 5:17Speaker 6: No.
- 5:17Speaker 2: By the way, One question that we did have yesterday,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and I'm glad that I just remembered it Drew Sanders
- 5:23Speaker 2: with Justinnod going out. What's the story there? I mean,
- 5:27Speaker 2: we haven't even thought about that name in a long time.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But is there a chance that he could play again
- 5:32Speaker 2: this year? Potentially?
- 5:34Speaker 4: Well, you know, until he comes back to practice and
- 5:36Speaker 4: they start the clock. I don't think that's something, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 4: that's on the front burner. I think they there is potential,
- 5:45Speaker 4: you know, sure, and they've people have said that and
- 5:48Speaker 4: I've seen him out here, you know, working with the
- 5:51Speaker 4: trainers and everything off to the side, you know, every day,
- 5:55Speaker 4: so that potential exists, and yeah, it would help, but
- 6:00Speaker 4: until they start the clock, don't. I don't think it's
- 6:03Speaker 4: I don't think it's on their front burner just yet.
- 6:06Speaker 5: Hey, Jeffrey, I saw some changes, some tweaks to the
- 6:09Speaker 5: Broncos offense. And this is where I think Sean Payton,
- 6:12Speaker 5: he does a good job.
- 6:13Speaker 1: You know.
- 6:14Speaker 5: They get out of that huddle and they sprint to
- 6:16Speaker 5: the line of scrimmage and sometimes they'll they'll put four
- 6:19Speaker 5: on one side to mess with deposing zone defenses and
- 6:22Speaker 5: all that. But we're seeing bow under center more often?
- 6:26Speaker 5: Is this just like, hey, he figured it out. He's
- 6:29Speaker 5: learned how to go under center. Why now more than
- 6:31Speaker 5: earlier in the season.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Well, you know, as you guys know, I've been banging
- 6:36Speaker 4: this drum since last year. Everyone I speak to who
- 6:40Speaker 4: evaluates quarterbacks that I respect believe bo Nicks would be
- 6:44Speaker 4: fabulous under center because he's such a good athlete and
- 6:49Speaker 4: it cleans up his footwork right now at this stage
- 6:51Speaker 4: of his career. You know, five years from now maybe different,
- 6:56Speaker 4: but his footwork and accuracy, it improves everything when he's
- 7:02Speaker 4: under center more and I think it helps their run game.
- 7:05Speaker 4: So I'm hoping this isn't just a Sean Payton dalliance
- 7:10Speaker 4: with who the opponents are that he thinks this is
- 7:13Speaker 4: the matchup that works the best, and then he goes
- 7:17Speaker 4: back to, you know, something else up the road. You know,
- 7:22Speaker 4: we're never going to be able to say Sean Payton
- 7:26Speaker 4: always does, you know, and make a long list of
- 7:30Speaker 4: things following that.
- 7:32Speaker 3: He believes in.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Differentiating week to week opponent two opponent defense to defense,
- 7:39Speaker 4: So there's always going to be a little different you know,
- 7:44Speaker 4: feel to it week to week. But I believe under
- 7:47Speaker 4: center has helped the bow Nicks. I think the numbers
- 7:50Speaker 4: show it. I think the run game shows it. I
- 7:53Speaker 4: think everything shows it. And so, you know, personally, I
- 7:57Speaker 4: think they should stick with it. You know, he's in
- 8:00Speaker 4: the gun plenty, you know, fifty to fifty I think
- 8:03Speaker 4: is a good you know, uh split, And I think
- 8:07Speaker 4: they should find a way to do it because it
- 8:09Speaker 4: makes their offense better.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Jeff, how is Bo's relationship with Sean. It's been floated
- 8:14Speaker 2: out there that maybe it got a little tense midyear,
- 8:17Speaker 2: but you heard both of those guys talking about their
- 8:20Speaker 2: relationship with each other after the game the other night,
- 8:22Speaker 2: Bo talking about how he really wants a coach that
- 8:25Speaker 2: was going to be competitive with him, and he feels
- 8:27Speaker 2: like he's found that in Sean. Has it taken. Has
- 8:29Speaker 2: there been an adjustment period and maybe we're starting to
- 8:32Speaker 2: come out on the other side of it.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Well, I think they're you know, they're never going to
- 8:38Speaker 4: be all the way out on the other side, because
- 8:41Speaker 4: every quarterback I've ever been around, who was any good,
- 8:45Speaker 4: will challenge his coach from time to time and that's
- 8:49Speaker 4: just part of the relationship. And I you know, personally,
- 8:53Speaker 4: you know, I don't want to, you know, be sort
- 8:56Speaker 4: of jaded and everything, but I will say, in my
- 9:00Speaker 4: time doing this, players and coaches argue far more than
- 9:05Speaker 4: people think or expect or think is okay. It's just
- 9:10Speaker 4: part of doing business. You've got the most competitive people
- 9:14Speaker 4: in the world in the same room, you know, battling
- 9:19Speaker 4: for touches and winning and whatever else. Playing time, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 4: just to be heard. You know, everybody wants to be
- 9:29Speaker 4: heard in the equation. So I don't think I never
- 9:32Speaker 4: get too excited when I hear a coach and a
- 9:35Speaker 4: quarterback have gone at it a little bit just because
- 9:37Speaker 4: that's the nature of it. I don't think it was
- 9:42Speaker 4: as tense as people say. I think bo is getting
- 9:46Speaker 4: older and more involved in how they want to do it.
- 9:51Speaker 3: I don't.
- 9:52Speaker 4: I think there's a little a little, not a lot,
- 9:55Speaker 4: a little less. The play just comes in and he
- 9:58Speaker 4: runs it no matter what. I think he is feeling
- 10:02Speaker 4: like he can have some impact on what they're doing
- 10:04Speaker 4: and how they're doing it. And Sean Payton believes in
- 10:08Speaker 4: conflict too. I think people should always remember that. He
- 10:12Speaker 4: believes in tweaking players, in saying things to them, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 4: during practice, during meetings.
- 10:20Speaker 3: It's part of what he does.
- 10:23Speaker 4: He wants to know who's gonna stand up, you know,
- 10:26Speaker 4: when when it's time.
- 10:27Speaker 3: So I think a lot of it was overblown.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Doesn't mean it didn't happen or you know, it didn't occur.
- 10:34Speaker 4: I think it just I think sometimes in this social
- 10:37Speaker 4: media age, we make a little more of day to day,
- 10:42Speaker 4: you know, back and forth than than we did probably
- 10:45Speaker 4: thirty years ago.
- 10:47Speaker 6: Jeff, the Jakes have won five in a row, six
- 10:50Speaker 6: of seven. Who are these dudes?
- 10:55Speaker 3: What are what?
- 10:56Speaker 6: What are they? Who are they? What are they?
- 10:59Speaker 3: I think defensive?
- 11:00Speaker 4: They can play pretty rugged, you know, They lead the
- 11:03Speaker 4: league in run defense, right and you know eighty when
- 11:06Speaker 4: you're down in the eighty yardage area, you've you've done
- 11:11Speaker 4: some work in run defense. So they're good up front
- 11:15Speaker 4: and they're physical. And I think Cone and Lian Cohne
- 11:19Speaker 4: has finally found some things in Trevor Lawrence that you know,
- 11:24Speaker 4: you can see why the guy was the number one
- 11:26Speaker 4: pick of the draft. At times, super talented, and I
- 11:30Speaker 4: think I think the first year coach has sped him
- 11:34Speaker 4: up and cleaned up some of his reads. And once
- 11:37Speaker 4: he got twelve touchdown passes in the last four games,
- 11:40Speaker 4: I mean that that ain't bad.
- 11:42Speaker 3: That'll get it done.
- 11:43Speaker 5: Hey Ley, we've got John Franklin Myers on our Nuggets
- 11:46Speaker 5: pregame show tonight. He's gonna go to the Nuggets game.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Give me some intel, give me something I should ask him.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Ask him about it. The record of his high school
- 11:55Speaker 4: football team. You'll get a great, some funny stuf.
- 12:00Speaker 5: I read that. I can't fathom that he went to Greenville?
- 12:03Speaker 3: Is that correct? Greenville High School?
- 12:05Speaker 4: That guy didn't win a football game in his entire
- 12:09Speaker 4: high school career.
- 12:10Speaker 3: And it's unbelievable.
- 12:11Speaker 5: And he's in the National Football League he's got Let
- 12:13Speaker 5: me think about that for a second. This guy's an
- 12:15Speaker 5: NFL defensive lineman, right, takes a lot of space.
- 12:20Speaker 3: That's like being hit by an asteroid.
- 12:22Speaker 7: Odds heyoa, whoa, whoa own forty and oh in forty
- 12:28Speaker 7: it's almost discreat You know what now, now that you
- 12:31Speaker 7: got me on something.
- 12:32Speaker 5: The Broncos defensive linemen have some of the craziest stories
- 12:35Speaker 5: from high school ever. So John Franklin Myers his own
- 12:38Speaker 5: forty in high school.
- 12:39Speaker 3: His teammate Malcolm.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Roach played high school football in the fifth grade.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Yes, yes, how's that his nuts?
- 12:49Speaker 6: Well because he was so big?
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yes, oh, my lord almighty.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And where did Franklin Myers play ball? That his team
- 12:56Speaker 2: was so bad?
- 12:56Speaker 6: But he was a stud in Texas, Greenville, Greenville School
- 13:00Speaker 6: in Greenville, Texas. It's about I looked it up. It's
- 13:03Speaker 6: about I want to say, forty five minutes east of Dallas.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Okay, I mean, you keep banging your head against the wall,
- 13:10Speaker 5: you lose forty games, and you still have the conviction
- 13:13Speaker 5: to keep playing. Then he goes to Steven F.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Austin, I played high school ball with guys. If they
- 13:18Speaker 4: lost three in a row, they were like emotional racks.
- 13:21Speaker 3: I have no idea. That's crazy.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Hey one last one.
- 13:25Speaker 4: But and he's really funny talking about it, and that's crazy.
- 13:30Speaker 4: I will tell you he is one of the funniest guys.
- 13:33Speaker 4: But you better have the you better have the button
- 13:36Speaker 4: ready on the on the.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Show we got no button, Jeffrey, the button.
- 13:42Speaker 3: It may be you may bee prepare people.
- 13:45Speaker 2: He works with Moja. I think he'll be I think
- 13:47Speaker 2: he'll be just fine. He'll be ready for anything. Last question,
- 13:50Speaker 2: last question, settle a debate. Mosia and I are split here.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Legwell Dode. The Broncos need to lose a game before
- 13:57Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 13:59Speaker 3: I've never believed than the whole loser game thing. Thank you, yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 3: thank you.
- 14:03Speaker 2: But most says you can't believe this. Denver would win
- 14:05Speaker 2: seventeen in seventeen in a row.
- 14:07Speaker 6: Bro if they win the Super Bowl, if they listen,
- 14:10Speaker 6: they're gonna I think they're gonna be the Jags. We'll see.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I just I guess getting your ass kicked is.
- 14:17Speaker 6: Like, okay, I completely agree, but the odds would tell
- 14:21Speaker 6: you the odds of winning seventeen games in a row
- 14:24Speaker 6: in the National Football League are astronomical.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Well, I think the odds are winning a Super Bowl.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Don't improve if you lose in week sixteen.
- 14:33Speaker 6: Ah, the universe works in mysterious ways, Leggy.
- 14:37Speaker 2: But he's right though. You're absolutely right, Jeff, Like there's
- 14:40Speaker 2: no empirical data that he could point to other than
- 14:43Speaker 2: just a gut feeling of ooh, it feels icky to
- 14:46Speaker 2: not have lost the game fully admitted. Yeah, anyway, Well,
- 14:49Speaker 2: we appreciate the time this morning, Jeff.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Thanks all goode.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 14:57Speaker 2: that is ESPN's Jeff legwaald ib E W Local sixty eight.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Start with a job, end with a career
