- 0:24and plans from ever sauce the metals Yeah we break it all down
- 0:27hard graft Monday left about a Sunday still.
- 0:32Hello and welcome back to The Double Podcast episode 61.
- 0:36It is Monday evening over here in Perth, 8:00 PM.
- 0:39And that means that over in Boston, America, it must be 8:00
- 0:43AM. So they're about an hour away
- 0:45from the start line. So we'll see where we get to
- 0:48with the record and when the race starts, but I doubt we'll
- 0:52catch the results. I'm joined as always by the two
- 0:58Co hosts by Mossad. One of them over there.
- 1:01How far outside the Dublin? About 50 miles now.
- 1:06All miles. From around 20-30 minutes from
- 1:10the edge of Dublin, yeah. Even.
- 1:14Dublin. Dublin are Dublin are sort of
- 1:17like invading the area I'm from. So like more Dobbs, we'd call
- 1:22them are sort of going into the outer areas of where I'm from a
- 1:26Mead. So yeah, they're sort of
- 1:29surrounding us. Is this the impacts of cost of
- 1:33living pushing people out of the city into the country?
- 1:36Yeah, So like where I'm from, it's pretty like perfectly
- 1:40located. Like I tell I'm half now from
- 1:43the airport, half now. Well, rent half an hour, 40
- 1:47minutes into like the city, Yeah, I'm pretty well situated,
- 1:52pretty lucky. Whereas like people, let's say
- 1:55like Saddam, Michael, honey, he's from Cork.
- 1:58He could be, he is a lot, like even from his house to Cork city
- 2:04could be an hour and a half, two hours and then Cork city to
- 2:08Dublin could be another fucking three or something.
- 2:11So yeah, very lucky. And do the locals welcome these
- 2:16dubs or not really? And also just up the road is
- 2:25Dean Menzies. How are you doing Monday
- 2:27evening? Goodbye doing well, excited to
- 2:31chat. Running with you 2.
- 2:33Yeah, well, selfishly I wanted to say so.
- 2:36It's Monday for another good reason, and that's because the
- 2:39Merseyside Derby ended in the favour of Liverpool quite
- 2:42dramatically yesterday afternoon.
- 2:44And Dean, your team was on the the wrong end of another Derby
- 2:50yesterday afternoon, weren't they?
- 2:52They were, and you scored a ticket.
- 2:55Watch it all Unfold was made perhaps a little bit more
- 2:59competitive than it may have been, but fizzled out a little,
- 3:02didn't it? They.
- 3:04Are so I went for your benefit. I go for the West Coast Eagles
- 3:08and they played Fremantle. The Fremantle Dockers said the
- 3:10two WA teams played each other and Ryan was along along for the
- 3:15ride. Seeing it in person.
- 3:17So I'm probably I'm an Eagles fan and they're not playing
- 3:20particularly well at the minute, but so I'm not too upset I
- 3:23missed it. They weren't playing well a year
- 3:26ago when I was there either. They're fucking dog shit.
- 3:28So yeah, it's nice. Think things haven't changed?
- 3:32Bit of a rebuild, yeah? But like when I was there, I
- 3:37think Freo were fourth or something and we're Freo doing
- 3:40now. Pretty similar.
- 3:43Yeah. Yeah, so they're quite
- 3:45competitive. They've got a good list, young,
- 3:48young list that's just getting better.
- 3:50And we're we've just done a clean out.
- 3:53So but the AFL has like a draft system.
- 3:57So if you finish at the bottom of the table, which the equals
- 4:00have the last few years, we get the best picks of the in the in
- 4:04the draft. So the hope is once those
- 4:06players play enough games, they'll take us back up the
- 4:11ladder. And just had this guy.
- 4:14Was Harvey something? Is it?
- 4:16Harley. Harley Reid.
- 4:17Yeah. So he was one of the.
- 4:19He's. He's done now.
- 4:21I didn't hear that. Yeah.
- 4:23Hey Case. He is a high case *.
- 4:26Yeah. So yeah, that hasn't changed.
- 4:28But but he was a number one draft pick, so we're trying to
- 4:31get more of them to get competitive.
- 4:33But anyway, it was a good game. I run.
- 4:37Yeah, it was good fun. And then, well, thanks to Tom
- 4:39Tedge for shouting me the ticket last minute.
- 4:41It was in the the Banquest suite as well.
- 4:44So I said can we count this as recovery seen as we sat on nice
- 4:48cushion seats like absolute pretenders mixing it in there
- 4:52with all the corporates. But yeah, I was.
- 4:56Pretending like you, pretending like you knew what what was
- 4:59going on. Yeah, trying not to fully give
- 5:02away that I didn't have a clue what was going on and just kind
- 5:04of commenting here and there when it made obvious sense.
- 5:10But we're learning the ropes and I'm learning the hard way.
- 5:13Given that the work do a tipping competition and I think I'm 23rd
- 5:18of 24 right now. It doesn't help that I keep not
- 5:22putting my tips in in time for the Thursday game.
- 5:25So every week I'm automatically one game down.
- 5:29I, I fill them in in advance because we have one of the
- 5:33competitions. I mean, you have to do, have you
- 5:36heard of these competitions where you lose the tipping comp
- 5:38and you have to do some sort of challenge?
- 5:42And so ours is like something in 24 hours in AKFC or you wait
- 5:4620-4 pieces of chicken to get out and you get an hour off your
- 5:50KFC sentence. So I really don't want to be
- 5:53eating a whole bucket of KFC. So you're motivated to get your
- 5:56tips in. Oh some of the forfeits are so
- 6:00weird aren't they? There's a guy in work talking
- 6:02about his and they they said you have to go for breakfast in
- 6:06Cotslow on like a Saturday morning with a blow up sex doll.
- 6:12Yeah, we've had one. You have to like busk or busk or
- 6:16or wash windows to raise 50 bucks.
- 6:19Like to settle your fines and things like that.
- 6:23Male humor, hey. But anyway, we are here talking
- 6:29running, not about tipping competitions and stupid
- 6:32forfeits. So thanks everyone for being
- 6:35with us for another week. Thanks everyone who's rolled
- 6:37into the Patreon. And we've had a couple of
- 6:40episodes released in there. And we've got our first
- 6:43interview coming up this Friday, which we are all very excited
- 6:47about. So there's a post in there if
- 6:49you'd like to submit your questions for the interviewee.
- 6:53It's going to be fun. I'm sure you guys feel the same.
- 6:57So if you would like to join, that's patreon.com/easy double.
- 7:01And yeah, thanks for support. And as it's only, I think $10 is
- 7:05the maximum you'll pay. If you pay more, it's going to
- 7:08Apple, so maybe resubscribe without the app.
- 7:10And yeah, it just helps us keep paying for our subscriptions and
- 7:14keeps us turning up. So this week we've got some
- 7:19results from pretty random there's there's a couple of
- 7:23races over at the Boston Marathon earlier this weekend
- 7:27they had the 5K and a mile on the road.
- 7:30There was a half marathon in Istanbul, which sounds
- 7:33completely random, but when we get to who was there, it'll make
- 7:36a bit more sense. There's some stuff kicking off
- 7:38over in America with the NCAA's. And then perhaps the bulk of the
- 7:43talk will come from the news section this week.
- 7:46So we're going to delve into a London preview that's coming up.
- 7:50I'm not sure how clear we are with the fields there, but we'll
- 7:53do our best. And some other bits.
- 7:59So we'll start with run results then fellas.
- 8:01Run News is proudly brought to you by Brick Bix Nutrition,
- 8:04developed for athletes by athletes.
- 8:07Visit bixvitamins.com or vitamins if you're Australian.
- 8:11Or do Americans say vitamins as well?
- 8:13Anyway, bixvitamins.com for all your training and race day
- 8:17needs. Use the code double to score 20%
- 8:21off. So Boston Marathon, there was a
- 8:275K on the road. I think this was on Saturday and
- 8:31I seen it because Cooper Tia was posting quite a bit about it.
- 8:35So I gathered that he went quite well and when you dig the
- 8:39results out, he's finished fourth in pretty quick time of
- 8:431325 and he was also over there with his misses.
- 8:48She was second in the female male in a time of 434.
- 8:58When your Mace who you interviewed Adam Fogg, he also
- 9:01done the men's mile. He finished back in 6th in four
- 9:04O 7 but it looked like they were an absolute splatter over the
- 9:09line because first place was only four O 6 so could have been
- 9:12anyone's race. Yeah, I've seen, I've seen a bit
- 9:17of this. I think it's cool the way it
- 9:19should like to do in Australia. They have like the sort of
- 9:22smaller events before. I think it's a good initiative
- 9:25gets people of all because like people, there's so much happy
- 9:28about the marathon. But like I think it's nice for
- 9:32everyone to experience the sort of atmosphere around the city
- 9:35when that happens because like the Gold Coast is still like one
- 9:38of the highlight races for me, my running like just the whole
- 9:41atmosphere around the place and the fact that they've liked the
- 9:44five K 10K half and full. I think it's a great idea.
- 9:49Yeah, everyone's a winner, aren't they?
- 9:51Because you race a 5K or a mile on the road, and if that's just
- 9:55a meet by itself then probably the the crowd and the atmosphere
- 9:59isn't really too much. But throw in as part of like a
- 10:03marathon weekend and you benefit so much from all the crowd and
- 10:07energy over there. And then you get to stay and
- 10:10watch the marathon on usually the climax of the weekend too.
- 10:15And vice versa for those doing the marathon like you've got
- 10:18time to kill on the Saturday. Probably like looking to occupy
- 10:22some mere mental thinking space. So you just go and stand on the
- 10:26roads edge and watch all these amazing races.
- 10:29It's pretty fun. Fun way to throw it all
- 10:31together. Was interesting because I
- 10:34noticed that Cuba Tea as well as Connor Manse also seems to be
- 10:39over there in like some sort of ambassadorship type capacity.
- 10:44They were doing like a shakeout run with is it like heartbreak
- 10:47run or back group over there? And I'm sure Boston is a it's an
- 10:53Adidas sponsored race, isn't it? But these are all like Nike
- 10:57athletes. It's but I'd say like that, that
- 11:02heartbreak run group or whatever they're called, I say that's a
- 11:05massive like part of the Boston running community.
- 11:08Like, fair enough that the event is sponsored by Adidas and I
- 11:12think that the leads get some Medicare, like Boston American
- 11:18Care, it's pretty good. But yeah, I think that
- 11:21heartbreak, wrong group. That's massive.
- 11:26Just a comment on the men's mile results.
- 11:29Did you see who was in second that Isaac bastard?
- 11:34Do you recall him? I don't know if anyone's
- 11:36followed the Adam Fogg videos over time, but isn't that isn't
- 11:41that his training partner that they used to go 1-2 in a lot of
- 11:44their videos together when they ran for Drake University?
- 11:50I don't think I watched him back then.
- 11:53Back then, yeah. So that's OK.
- 11:55So I'm pretty sure like because Adam Fogg did like his journey
- 12:00to the in into the NCAA and his journey through and this guy was
- 12:05often playing second field to Adam in a lot of the like
- 12:08because Drake, I don't think was one of the top unis, but as far
- 12:12as athletics went or middle their distance program, but they
- 12:16would go 1-2. But so the the fact that he's
- 12:19taking a bit of a scalp there, I would imagine that's a bit of a
- 12:23bit of a break breakthrough for him.
- 12:25So that's pretty cool. It's a pretty unique, well, the
- 12:28bits I seen they like round a bend, then I think they've like
- 12:32100 meters to the finish. Like that's just the road racing
- 12:35mile. Like it's not just a nice little
- 12:37Oval track. So them positioning probably
- 12:41plays a big part in it as well. Well, yeah, you see the spread
- 12:46of times between the top six, 9/10 of a second one through 6
- 12:52is. That's pretty cool.
- 12:56Whilst we're at Boston, I've seen photos like the, I don't
- 13:00know how you can tell what the weather's like for a photo, but
- 13:02you know when you can just see a still day like crisp cold
- 13:07conditions, sunshine and just like perfect for running.
- 13:10And when you punch it into the weather app now, given the star
- 13:14is less than an hour away, it's 4°, there's everyone's talking
- 13:20about tailwinds. I don't know which way the wind
- 13:22blows, so I'm going to assume it's obviously behind them. 13
- 13:27kilometer an hour with gusts up to 28.
- 13:31So that sounds pretty fun, but. I did hear, yeah, you did you
- 13:37hear the guys do the preview, the Let's Run team provide their
- 13:41preview. They were commenting on the the
- 13:44favorable weather and in particular the tailwind because
- 13:47I think it's not super often that you get a complete
- 13:50tailwind. But it looked like, at least
- 13:52from a day or so ago, that that's what they were getting,
- 13:54which might be conducive to some fast times, which is good.
- 14:00Yeah, because obviously it's so famous for these hills and like
- 14:03how hard it is. But the American record, well,
- 14:05unofficially was stood there for so long because of a tailwind.
- 14:09They didn't it. So obviously it's possible to
- 14:11run fast if the conditions allow it.
- 14:13Was that Ryan Hall? Yeah, he right.
- 14:17He was about it. What has?
- 14:19Talbi run. Is he 206207?
- 14:23I think I'm so like him with his hell and yeah, could be good,
- 14:30yeah. Istanbul half marathon I don't
- 14:35know if you've been watching the team Macau stuff, but one of the
- 14:38latest videos I watched was pretty good with Ellis cross and
- 14:43they were talking about how he obviously debuted in his
- 14:46marathon in Seville earlier in the run 210 and the reason why
- 14:50well, one of the reason why he moved over to the marathon is
- 14:53because he's hoping to qualify like Jake Smith for the European
- 14:58marathon at this year's outdoor championships, which is a
- 15:02qualifying time of 209 thirty. So obviously he missed that in
- 15:06Seville, but like, we know those are the ways to qualify for
- 15:11these things. So he was chasing some World
- 15:13Athletics ranking points because your points are decided from
- 15:18like the average of your marathon time and your half
- 15:22marathon time within the qualifying window.
- 15:26So he was heading over to Istanbul to run a half marathon
- 15:30and try and put a good time on the board to get some points,
- 15:35which he has done. He finished 12th in the race in
- 15:386228 and I think I seem pretty happy with that.
- 15:44But he'll probably be sat there now doing like a warm weather
- 15:48dance or something for London this weekend, given how many
- 15:52fast breaths are in the field there.
- 15:53Because no doubt half, at least half of them, if not all of
- 15:57them, will also be thinking about trying to punch a time for
- 16:00the European champs this summer. I think Alfie Mann Thorpe is his
- 16:06main like opposition because Alfie has a faster half and by
- 16:13where by Sunday evening he could have a faster marathon as well.
- 16:19Jake 2. And Jake, how many did he bring
- 16:233? Yeah, three.
- 16:27Yeah. So I'm Phil, also, well,
- 16:29learning. You've got Phil.
- 16:32You've got. But yeah, it's there's too many
- 16:36good names there that one summer going on the silence.
- 16:41But to be for him to be incentivized to go over to
- 16:44Istanbul and chase these points, they obviously have
- 16:47conversations. He must know like a couple of
- 16:49them and maybe thinking about like another major in the autumn
- 16:53or something and won't really be prior prioritizing the
- 16:56Europeans. Yeah, like, but like some male
- 17:00crass. Do you do Europeans or do you go
- 17:03for a major and get a nice payday?
- 17:04Because I don't think Europeans pay as well as a as a world
- 17:07major because like you've got Patty Deaver as well.
- 17:12Yeah, Jack Crow. Like, yeah, there's so many.
- 17:18Do you think that's why they're trying to do this standalone
- 17:20thing, to find a way of making it more desirable?
- 17:26I think that's part of it. But yeah, but like, it's still,
- 17:33I feel like it's like the World Championships are still going to
- 17:36be desirable. The Europeans maybe not as
- 17:39desirable. Like if you already have a
- 17:41British vest, you're going to pick the money over another one.
- 17:45Really. Speaking of the London Marathon,
- 17:49I just started looking at like the weather forecasts.
- 17:54It's looking pretty good. It's a we're still a ways out
- 17:57right? But looks looks pretty good from
- 17:59what I'm looking. At.
- 18:03A high of 17, low of six wins. You know, single digits, maybe
- 18:1112 K an hour. Yeah.
- 18:15What time do they start? It's like 9:00 or something.
- 18:17London is no don't think it's like super early.
- 18:21Looks pretty good. If it gets to a peak of 50 and
- 18:26that's not you can't say that's warm, can you?
- 18:30It's not bad, I doubt it doesn't.
- 18:32Doesn't look like it's particularly humid either.
- 18:37We'll wait till my race recap where it was 15° on Sunday and
- 18:40I'll tell you whether you can say it was warm or not.
- 18:45No, to finish off the this Turkish half marathon results,
- 18:48the guys, the guy who won it first and second, were twins.
- 18:53Usually I wouldn't comment on people who have no idea who they
- 18:56are, but she's pretty interesting.
- 18:57The pair of Kenyan twins, Alex Matata and Charles Matata, they
- 19:02both run 60 dead and one second. And unlike all the kind of like
- 19:07the posts and social medias and the articles it talks about,
- 19:11like the fact that they won it, as in like they've done it, they
- 19:16won it together. There was no one person who won
- 19:19it like the twins won, but I've seen the photos of them crossing
- 19:24the line and although they had they were rewarded the same
- 19:27time. It's quite clear that one of
- 19:29them crossed the line 1st. And yes, I'm not sure why
- 19:36they're talking about it like this, but maybe they wanted to
- 19:38share the winnings. I think they're probably just
- 19:42now it's easier if you just give them both the same thing.
- 19:47Given they are pretty crazy, it's pretty crazy that you've
- 19:50got twins that run like the exact like darkness accent
- 19:53ability like they're freaking good.
- 19:56Like that's 60 flat for half, like that's.
- 20:00Gone. Yeah.
- 20:04Not only one is worse. The fastest brother combination
- 20:10but I mean the bachelies wasn't. Isn't there a brother of Canisa
- 20:18Bakili? These are twins.
- 20:21These are twins. Fastest.
- 20:22Twins Day, Yeah. Yeah, 27th of July 97.
- 20:28Pretty old as well, like 29. It's not like they're just
- 20:31basting on the scene. Yeah, but I think there's a
- 20:34thing that you don't trust them passports either.
- 20:38They're birth certs. Yeah, but usually they would be
- 20:41saying that they're 19, not 29. Yeah, they're in the scale.
- 20:48Did you see sidetrack that? I don't know why it's in the
- 20:52news. Was going to save this for
- 20:53Double Trouble, but a robot running a half marathon in
- 20:56Beijing? Oh my.
- 20:58God. Why is everyone getting yeah
- 21:00the? Car could drive a fast as well
- 21:03like it's. My mom mentioned this and I said
- 21:09but it'll probably get discussed on the pod.
- 21:12Here we are, we got there. What do you reckon?
- 21:18I don't know. I mean I.
- 21:20Don't think. I think they're more.
- 21:22I think AI is a bigger threat to our jobs.
- 21:24I don't think robots are a threat to our running career.
- 21:30I've seen all over the place. Is it mechanical doping?
- 21:35It's actually hilarious. He's he's about 100 meters away
- 21:40from the finish line. I'm like, there's a Chinese
- 21:42woman like commentating and everything taking it dead
- 21:45seriously and he runs like 90° left into the wall.
- 21:52And some guy runs on with the stretcher.
- 21:56No, I didn't say that. And then there's another fellow
- 22:00comes on with a remote control and they get him up and
- 22:03recalibrate him and off he goes, nails it.
- 22:05Like 40 cases an hour to the finish line.
- 22:10So wait, he can turn like or can he just run in straight lines?
- 22:15I don't know because when he as soon as he crosses the finish
- 22:18line, he comes to like a nice little steady jog stop as a
- 22:21human would is quite weird. But yeah, I think he had the
- 22:25malfunctioning. He hit lactic and just went
- 22:27left. It's a shame we're not segueing
- 22:32into your running race. No may I need to get some fuel?
- 22:43I had another one there, Vienna City Marathon, but I'm going to
- 22:46skip that because don't know the participants play.
- 22:51With the winner. Yeah, Mr. Kip Rosich.
- 22:56It's for anyone. Who is Fanny Kip Rosich, One in
- 22:59two, 0653. That's.
- 23:05Why you snooped it into the results?
- 23:08It may have been newsworthy that Fanny Fanny won.
- 23:13Guys, but it's not, not just like Vienna City Marathon, like
- 23:15not a big marathon. And the winners run like 206.
- 23:19Yeah, it's just crazy. I just read your comment about a
- 23:28comment above this. Yeah, I may have left that one
- 23:38in there. Just just get his name.
- 23:43How did you come across that? Yeah, Where'd you find that?
- 23:47You just World Athletics just on a deep dive.
- 23:51You know I never let one result get past me.
- 23:54Got to audit them all. Oh, we know.
- 23:58That's thorough. So on the subject of which,
- 24:02we'll head to the Brian Clay Invitational.
- 24:05Yeah, I can. Or did you want to give that a
- 24:09run on? No, you're happy for me to
- 24:11mention we mentioned this because had Tom Samuel, I think,
- 24:18appeared on our news feeds, well, it definitely appeared on
- 24:20mine. But he broke the NCAA record for
- 24:265K outdoors. He bet it by a couple of
- 24:29seconds. He ran 13 O3.
- 24:32Looking at the results, it's a big weekend of racing, racing
- 24:35this Brian Clay Invitational, but we've just picked out a
- 24:39couple of the results. So yeah, Hab Tom was the winner
- 24:42in 1303. Here's a ways clear.
- 24:45Second was Den Dennis, Kevin Get It in 1313, and Tavern Kitchen
- 24:51was third in 1316. But yeah.
- 24:56Produced on a on a outdoor track.
- 24:57Was there? Yeah.
- 24:59So I think the guys are opening up there.
- 25:02A lot of the US university or NCAA athletes are opening up
- 25:08their outdoor seasons by the looks because there was a
- 25:10smattering of results over various parts of the US.
- 25:16And so, yeah, this is a like this is a largely there was like
- 25:24a series of races like this is one of multiple 5 and 10K races,
- 25:281500 meter races, but largely attended by like the top 4 all
- 25:35UNI athletes, NCAA athletes. He must have this must be his
- 25:40last period of eligibility. Have Tom, would that be right?
- 25:44I see. I don't know.
- 25:48So probably 12 masters that I'm keeping there for another couple
- 25:51of years. Yeah, he's.
- 25:54Definitely been around for a little bit, but I mean, that's
- 25:56pretty rapid time and 10 seconds clear.
- 25:58It's pretty impressive to start your season.
- 26:00He seems to have picked up about 5 different records in the past
- 26:0412 months, doesn't he? Like he's been just cleaning
- 26:06them up? Absolutely on one.
- 26:09And then on the women's side, Jane Hen heading the ground
- 26:14butchered her name. But that's AI.
- 26:16Think a familiar name in recent times.
- 26:20The BYU athlete was the winner in 1450.
- 26:22She was 8 seconds clear of Lexi Halladay Lowry in 1458.
- 26:30But yeah, probably the two most notable 5K runners at the minute
- 26:36in the NCAA system running pretty very solid times.
- 26:41So 15 by yourself as well. It's pretty impressive in it.
- 26:47And she's really young. I think this is her like first
- 26:50year in college or to call them sophomores or something like
- 26:55that. And then the other result we're
- 26:58going to cover is the men's 1500 meters, the elite field in
- 27:04there. Sam Gilman was the winner in
- 27:08334, followed by Colin Solomon in 336.
- 27:14So yeah, he was a couple of seconds clear running at PB and
- 27:19closing in 54. So closing just just closed over
- 27:22the top of everyone else but Ryan, this one came to your
- 27:28attention. Yeah, yesterday afternoon we got
- 27:31the we got the tag from Evans Jaeger in the post saying easy
- 27:37double pod, you should get some Gilman on the show.
- 27:40So I've said we should tear up indeed.
- 27:44So we'll try and bring the analysis and unpack that race to
- 27:50you. Courtesy of this chat with Sam
- 27:52Gilman. I think some gallon he's he's
- 27:55very interesting background as well.
- 27:56I think he was always pretty good, but now he's after, I
- 27:59think he's with Grant Fisher's coach now and he trains a lot
- 28:02with Grant Fisher. So it'll be interesting.
- 28:05That'll be a really good interview.
- 28:07Yeah, say what he attributes the improvement to.
- 28:13Yeah, pretty surreal. Yeah, Brocker.
- 28:17Probably sprouts. Jeez, what?
- 28:22We flew through running news there this week.
- 28:25The big ones still to. Come, there was one in, there
- 28:28was one in Ireland. There was sort of a marathon,
- 28:32half marathon over in Connemara. So you 2 guys want to look up
- 28:36what Connemara looks like. It's over on the West of
- 28:41Ireland. And yeah, it's it's pretty, it's
- 28:46pretty remote. And both the winners in the the
- 28:53winners in the lads what I'll go women first in the women's half
- 28:59winner was Elizabeth Meyer, who is friend of the show, and she
- 29:04ran one hour, 27 minutes and two seconds.
- 29:08Second was Emir O'Leary, who ran one hour, 27 minutes, 34
- 29:13seconds. And then third was Jane and
- 29:17Healy Meehan who ran one hour, 27 minutes to 42 seconds, so
- 29:24pretty tight up near the front. And then on the lab side #1 the
- 29:32winner was John Banner who ran 7039.
- 29:38Second was Michael Brady who ran 71 O eight and third was failing
- 29:42again, who ran one. Our we're around 71 and 47.
- 29:51I'll go to marathon now as well. The marathon.
- 29:55Backs are back weekends. We've got listeners over in
- 29:58Ireland winning races. It was dear Grady the week
- 30:01before, wasn't it? And now Elizabeth.
- 30:03Yeah, it's good, isn't it? Yeah.
- 30:06Where did you say the place was? Oh, and I'm trying to look it
- 30:09up. It's kind of.
- 30:10It's spelled CONNEMA or A. OK.
- 30:18Oh yeah, got it. It's yeah, looks beautiful.
- 30:24Yeah, it's really, really nice. Just a pain to get out there.
- 30:29And on the marathon side is won by Marcus Angustan who ran
- 30:3523944. Second was Brian Gernan who ran
- 30:4025220 and 3rd was Darren Morgan who ran 25325.
- 30:46And then on the women's side, Eva O'Hare won in three hours 10
- 30:52minutes. Second was Mary Lawyer who ran 3
- 30:56hours, 20 minutes and then third was Mary Claire O'Donnell who
- 31:00ran 3 hours, 27 minutes. Now there was an ultra.
- 31:05Do we want to dabble in the Ultra?
- 31:08Go on. Yeah.
- 31:10I'm on the male side. It was on the male side, it was
- 31:14Pierre Duverness who ran 4 hours 29 minutes and second was
- 31:23Brandon Conaway who ran 4 hours 44 minutes and 3rd was David
- 31:27Power who ran 4 hours 58 minutes on the women's side one day.
- 31:33And how far did they run what? What was the ultra do you know?
- 31:37It's an ultra, just not one distance.
- 31:40I think I always thought ultra was just a loose term to being
- 31:45anything over a marathon. So for example, like Comrades is
- 31:5090 KS. Some of them are.
- 31:53What did they have over the weekend or two weekends ago?
- 31:56We had the delirious W which. I think 100 and 200 miles.
- 32:00Yeah, 200 and 320, guys. It's 63.25 kilometers.
- 32:08Wonder how they came up with that.
- 32:10Yeah, got 39.3 miles and then. These results would have been on
- 32:19the end of a double trouble in the past.
- 32:22We appreciate the first episode. It burnt any ultra runners.
- 32:28That the get guy they're women's Nicola Hickey Crow, she won it
- 32:33in five hours 26 minutes. Third.
- 32:36The second was Nave Ocalen, she won, she ran five hours 37
- 32:41minutes. And then third was Adrian
- 32:45Adriana Batabar, who ran five hours 40 minutes.
- 32:50But on this, like, I still think running lot like for running for
- 32:55five hours, like nearly six hours, that is super, super
- 32:58hard. Like, not saying that, I'm just
- 33:01saying running faster is harder. What about running?
- 33:08What about running fast and long?
- 33:10That's The Who and there's a guy and give me a second.
- 33:17Well, you find in that the penny might have dropped with the
- 33:20distance. Is that three half marathons?
- 33:23Is that the distance 21.09? Yeah.
- 33:27There you go. Yeah.
- 33:29I've been talking to, you know, Joe Turner, he listens to the
- 33:32podcast. He was over in Ireland, he was
- 33:33doing like 100 kilometer race and he's still running like 4
- 33:38minute kilometers for like 100 kilometers, which is like fast
- 33:44and like super long, which is just, yeah, mind boggling.
- 33:48And so, yeah, it is incredible, but I'm just.
- 33:51Saying she is changing. You, you and him have come full
- 33:56circle then because you upset him with solo ones and but.
- 34:04They're saying that like sore is probably really good.
- 34:06I just think it's very expensive, like, yeah.
- 34:11There we go, Dean. Is that some growth?
- 34:13It's. I don't.
- 34:14Know if I like it? He's just he saves all the
- 34:19controversy for the No Agenda show now.
- 34:23I've got a bit of controversy, John do that Nike freaking
- 34:27picture to the Nike poster that was up in where was it up?
- 34:34Was open. I think this is the UK.
- 34:37Is it Boston or the UK? Outside Newbury street store
- 34:41probably is the probably is America but apparently it said
- 34:49runners welcome, walkers tolerated or something like that
- 34:53which apparently people got really angry about.
- 35:00I just want to get your guys opinions on that because I think
- 35:04it's the biggest load of fucking waffle ever.
- 35:07I keep going so soft and sensitive, like it's a sign,
- 35:12like it's not that deep. I think it's a bit ridiculous
- 35:17because the sport is literally called running.
- 35:20Like, yeah, you can. You can choose to walk if you
- 35:23want, but it is running. And that's kind of what the sign
- 35:26says. Like running runners welcome,
- 35:30walking tolerated. But people now will just use any
- 35:34excuse to boot off about something.
- 35:36So because they were able to take a free shot at night and,
- 35:40like, pretend like they're outraged and rarely offended by
- 35:43this. Like, ultimately, the people who
- 35:45are complaining, they don't really give a shit themselves,
- 35:49but they don't even realize, Yeah.
- 35:53So it's just like a chance to have a moment, but then you will
- 35:59levels outgoing and. I'm sitting on the fence here.
- 36:04Look no. I probably, I mean, did they
- 36:08need to say it? You know, could have found
- 36:10something else to say why they're being provocative.
- 36:15And they were famous the other year for like some like sick
- 36:17quotes on these signs, weren't they?
- 36:19Like they kind of don't about going viral, but there's a few
- 36:22signs like put about here and there and they were like quite
- 36:24inspirational or quite thought provoke him.
- 36:27But yeah, maybe they've just gone with the wrong angle on
- 36:30that one. But yeah, runners are welcome.
- 36:36I imagine there's no people listening to this podcast about
- 36:39running who walk because if they did, they wouldn't care about
- 36:43running so well. I mean we all walk like but.
- 36:50Shit, where are we up to? Probably leads us into training
- 36:55weeks. Oh do we want to we can talk
- 36:57about the race was was rare. So on Sunday I had my first race
- 37:05in 51 weeks. To the day in fact, because
- 37:09Ballarat Marathon is a week, well, next weekend, and that was
- 37:13the last time I pinned on a bib. So yeah, I guess I can.
- 37:19I'll recap the race, how it went and then I'll tell you my
- 37:22thoughts and feelings. And feel free to call out any
- 37:26excuses because I don't want any excuses and feel free to
- 37:30question my thought process at any point.
- 37:34If I'm not looking at you and you're trying to get my
- 37:37attention, just interrupt me. So yeah, this is 10K on Saturday
- 37:42round the river in Perth here literally AK away from the flat
- 37:47perfect conditions, 15° dew point of 10, which basically
- 37:54means humidity is a non factor and a very slight headwind for
- 38:00the 1st 3K, which means that once you cross the first bridge
- 38:04you have a very slight tailwind for K is 4567 so around 33.
- 38:11Oh, oh, I think officially I could claim 3258 because that's
- 38:15the chip time, but I mean, neither here nor there won't be
- 38:19getting OMICU on the back, so I'll just go with 33.
- 38:23Oh, oh, because whatever. And yeah, the plan was I thought
- 38:27in my head maybe on, I thought I could maybe run 30 to 30, but
- 38:32the I was always thinking I'll just start nice and
- 38:35conservatively won't do anything in this headwind, settle into it
- 38:41and then press in the back half and see what's left.
- 38:46So yeah, when I upped that long stretch there on the promenade,
- 38:50it's like pretty much as well promenade on the waterfront.
- 38:53It's like a straight road for 2 kilometers pretty much before
- 38:57you get to the bridge. So I remember looking up around
- 39:01800 meters in and I could obviously, because it's only 800
- 39:05meters in, I could see everyone who was had to me at that point.
- 39:09And I decided to count the number of people because I was
- 39:12like, this is, it could be quite funny because there was a lot of
- 39:16people ahead to me there and I knew that there wouldn't be that
- 39:18many by the finish. So I was in 19th after AK and
- 39:24yeah, people got after it. And I soon realized around the K
- 39:30marker that my watch wasn't set up to have kilometers splits
- 39:34automated on it. So if I was like going for a PB
- 39:40or something that would have been like massive panic
- 39:42stations, it would have threw me off mentally and I would have
- 39:44started to worry. But I was like man, that just
- 39:48kind of incentivizes doing this to fail and just like race those
- 39:53around me and see what I can get.
- 39:56Anyway, so first Ki think was like 3/23/20 up to the bridge
- 40:04and then I was feeling this feeling pretty easy.
- 40:07Which is. A good sign.
- 40:09And then we goes over the bridge and I can start to hear the
- 40:13people around me starting to breathe a bit, but I was still
- 40:17feeling pretty easy. So the third case is at 317 over
- 40:20the bridge. And then once you get off the
- 40:23bridge, you've got a bit of a license to squeeze or press or
- 40:28like open your race up there at that point kind of thing.
- 40:32And that kind of naturally shakes a few people out of the
- 40:36group because those who've maybe gone out a little bit hard, as
- 40:39soon as people start pressing at that point, they, they can't go
- 40:44with it. So I think going over the
- 40:46bridge, there's a few photos and with about 8 people and I had
- 40:50the easy double single on. There was a cross wind at that
- 40:53point. There's a few photos where my
- 40:55nipples exposed because the sink, it's been blown across my
- 40:59chest like this. So then yeah, once we got off, I
- 41:05was like, right, OK, feel good, Let's kind of go to work a
- 41:09little bit. Again, no split.
- 41:11So this is purely off field and around 316 K, 4316K5315K6314K7.
- 41:21But in all honesty about this, between 6:00 and 7:00 K, I'm
- 41:27starting to think, oh, this is it's getting a little bit
- 41:31uncomfortable now. And my heart rate, Dean, you
- 41:35love heart rate. So first Ki, remember looking
- 41:37down some point early on, I think it was when we're on the
- 41:40bridge and saying like 170 something.
- 41:42And I thought, oh shit, that maybe it shouldn't be that high
- 41:46yet. But from the second K it was
- 41:50170. And then all the way up, well,
- 41:53the ninth K even it was 172. So I think I'm just lacking a
- 41:58bit of conditioning to suffer when it gets hard because when
- 42:03it did get hard around that 7th K, you know, when you start to
- 42:08approach narrows, that's when like the what's the the word?
- 42:13Like the your mental chimp, the little monkey in your brain.
- 42:18He was starting to come into my brain and say you should just
- 42:22back off now. This is like hard.
- 42:24It's not worth it. Like you've got a incline coming
- 42:28up up the bridge and you're racing these two people like
- 42:31don't do it. It's it's too hard, like
- 42:34whatever. So by that point, yeah, there
- 42:36was three of us who were running down me, Renee and I think a guy
- 42:39called Cam. There was a couple of young kids
- 42:41on the bikes. They must have been his mates.
- 42:44They were like kind of following along.
- 42:46And then every time they would appear he'd be gone.
- 42:48Cam go camp. So that was quite fun.
- 42:52It was keeping me honest. But then as we approach the
- 42:56bridge, I actually let those two, despite the fact I'd like
- 43:00kind of led all the way along the RIP waterfront, I let those
- 43:05two pass. And that was because I was
- 43:07thinking I'm going to let them go because this is too
- 43:11uncomfortable. On so on that borderfront
- 43:15section where you, because that's where one of the timing
- 43:19mats, you know the 5K timing mat is and it says to your 9th going
- 43:23through that mat. So you started at 18th year now
- 43:26up to 9th. Is that including those people?
- 43:29Like are you catching still catching other people?
- 43:34Not really, maybe one or two like some lad hard luck term he
- 43:38went the wrong way. There's like a bit where
- 43:41typically you would want run just straight, but they're like
- 43:43doing some construction there. So you have to like run out and
- 43:46around and back in and rather than taking like a sharp right,
- 43:50he just went straight. And then I think he kind of like
- 43:52gave up a bit, which as you would, maybe we caught a couple,
- 43:57but I think maybe it was just the like the way the group had
- 44:01gone through the time and matter something.
- 44:04Yeah, 1635 I think was the halfway split and I think even
- 44:09then I remember looking at my watch and seeing 1635 and going,
- 44:15OK, what's double that 3310? And at that point even I was
- 44:19like, Oh yeah, well, it's not going to be 3230 because there's
- 44:22no chance I can press 40 seconds from here.
- 44:28So, yeah, coming back up onto that bridge, I let this Renee
- 44:30and Cam go ahead and they they kind of, I don't know if they
- 44:35said so. I just like proper backed off
- 44:37the first incline because I was giving up a little bit.
- 44:40And then next minute I was behind them again.
- 44:43And I think we're still going up the incline at this point.
- 44:46I think they tried to like race up a little bit and then there's
- 44:51there's no real respite from a bridge AK into a race.
- 44:56It's the hardest part of that race is that part getting up
- 44:59onto the Narrows I reckon. Yeah, because it not that it
- 45:04never ends. It is relatively short hill, but
- 45:06then even once you kinda peek at your legs have just been taken
- 45:11out from underneath you, you, your cadence and your stride
- 45:14that you've just been in such a rhythm coming down the
- 45:16waterfront has just been riven. And you go from having that
- 45:20tailwind to then you're now about to start heading back into
- 45:25the wind a little bit. And you know, as you're going
- 45:28and, and it's a gradual rise up as well.
- 45:30Like it's a really tough, it's a really tough last quarter of
- 45:34that race from about 7 1/2 KS onwards.
- 45:37It's pretty, yeah. It's not, It's not a smooth
- 45:41finish. And then they kindly have an
- 45:44eighth kilometre marker like. Placed.
- 45:46On the bridge. I remember.
- 45:48Yeah, so cool. Just when you're feeling you're
- 45:51absolute worse, they like, you know, by the way, there's 20% of
- 45:55this race left. But surprisingly, once we got
- 45:59down the bridge and round and under, I started to feel like
- 46:04pretty good again, like pretty quick from how I was feeling so
- 46:07bad. And then for some reason I kept,
- 46:11I was still behind them, like right behind them.
- 46:13I kept like drifting out a little bit and almost thinking I
- 46:16was going to go round. And I was like, why?
- 46:18Just waste like way too long. Yeah, you might as well just sit
- 46:22here. Time is out the window anyway.
- 46:24Just give yourself the best chance to at least finish ahead
- 46:27of them. So I did stay behind them for
- 46:32maybe another 500 meters or so. And then we got to the point
- 46:35where I figured it was about AK left to go and I was feeling
- 46:40good. So I was like, right, I said
- 46:43past them like quite hard. And then after about 10 seconds
- 46:47I was like oh shit, this is this is way too early to hold this to
- 46:51the finish. So then I I almost gave up on
- 46:54the set and let them get back. On to me where?
- 46:57How far out are you starting to sort of kick the home?
- 47:01So you know that like last tunnel that you go under and
- 47:05then you turn Oh. Shit straight out there.
- 47:07Before the tunnel through that little wooded bit, by the way.
- 47:12Yeah, yeah, still quite a bit of quite a bit left, isn't there?
- 47:16Oh yeah, so then as we come out the tunnel, one back behind them
- 47:21again. That's like a cycling like
- 47:26eventually, like I'll show these guys, I'll take a turn and then
- 47:30you just feel the headwind and then you're, Oh no.
- 47:34Point as well is probably like where I'm having the most fun
- 47:37that I've had because it was like this is like proper racing,
- 47:40like we're all like playing our cards and we're just going blow
- 47:43for blow. No one could hold anything that
- 47:46do a try. And and then to be fair to Josh
- 47:50was SAT just outside that tunnel there and he gave me a good
- 47:54shout and then next thing you know I've gone again.
- 48:00Thanks, Josh. But also again, I'm too far away
- 48:02from the line to hold this. But I think from that point I
- 48:06did, I think Renee start as a fade for the last K and then
- 48:12this Cam guy, he was kind of like just a couple of seconds
- 48:15back, but like with me the whole way.
- 48:19And there's a guy in front, Dooku, you know, the young kid,
- 48:22that front runner, he was doing the session with us the week
- 48:24prior. He'd been ahead the whole race,
- 48:27him and Tom Ted, you like kind of going back and forth.
- 48:30And then I noticed that the gap was closing, closing to Dooku.
- 48:35So I was like, right, OK, I'll try and I'll get him and then
- 48:38that'll be me done. So just coming on to the last
- 48:43little Elizabeth Key bridge, I felt sorry for him because, you
- 48:48know, sometimes when you like hair and that much, you can't
- 48:51really think we like you disengage, you know, in it.
- 48:54It took like a proper wide line going into the bridge and I felt
- 48:59like I almost cut a corner to get ahead of them.
- 49:01But I was like, well, it's just this is racing, isn't it?
- 49:03I'm sorry, but you'll learn next time.
- 49:07So then I'm driving up that bridge, comes down the bridge,
- 49:12and then he just drifts. I've.
- 49:13Seen the footage? I've seen the footage of it.
- 49:15Have you seen the footage? He looks like he's walking and I
- 49:18was in so much hair. Hey, moving can you say?
- 49:24The footage. Oh, oh, the 10.
- 49:26Yeah, he moves really nicely. Yeah, does take it.
- 49:30I'm not, not to say you don't, but he does look good.
- 49:37What a good spring finish, hey? Yeah, so it was, it was nice to
- 49:41be competitive towards the end. Like usually you just racing the
- 49:44clock and out trying to get like a PB.
- 49:46It doesn't really matter where you finish in the race.
- 49:49But yeah, it was a different feeling to like be comparing
- 49:52myself to others and trying to beat this person and that
- 49:55person. Nice ways to come back to it.
- 49:58So yes, think I finished 6th and 33 dead bullshit that you forget
- 50:04how much it hurts because that was a harsh reminder like
- 50:09usually. But when you face, you know the
- 50:12feeling when you finish a race and towards the end you feel
- 50:16like you're on your absolute limit.
- 50:17Obviously you can't give any more than what you've given.
- 50:20But then within 60 seconds of finishing you feel pretty OK
- 50:24again. And then that's when you start
- 50:26to think, oh, if any other done this, like I could have run
- 50:29quicker. I was not thinking that
- 50:31yesterday. Just like, wow, this is an
- 50:35absolute, pure, true representation of my shape right
- 50:39now. There was nothing else out
- 50:40there. It's.
- 50:43A great recap. Can I pass it?
- 50:46Did you you go on? No, no, no, but.
- 50:50I was just going to say, like the fact that you've not run in
- 50:5353 weeks, not done one race and done a handful of sessions to
- 50:58then run a 10K where you're you've pretty much nailed like
- 51:04those heart rates relative to your threshold heart rate.
- 51:06You know, I get excited about that sort of stuff, but it
- 51:08sounds pretty much, it sounds perfectly bang on.
- 51:11And then you've engaged in the race late.
- 51:13Like it sounds very well judged. Yeah, very well executed.
- 51:19So yeah, I hope you, I hope you enjoyed it.
- 51:22I think that's like you've, you've really only just started
- 51:25training again and to pull off a race like that and to judge your
- 51:29race effort like you did, I think that's great.
- 51:33Yeah, the main thing is that there was, there's no big blow
- 51:36up, like there's no blows to the confidence.
- 51:38So I'm not walking away thinking like, oh shit, I'm 1,000,000
- 51:42miles away. Like I need to do XY and Zed.
- 51:44That's just right. OK, that's a solid enough
- 51:48result. It is what it is.
- 51:49It's an not a reality check because you're never going to
- 51:52think that you're going to run a PB off what I've done, but it's
- 51:56enough to go, OK, there's work to be done and it motivates me
- 52:00to now kind of just, yeah, get my head down and train.
- 52:04You can't. All the talk we've done of the
- 52:06cycling, it just shows that you can't run and is running, like
- 52:13cycling, helps as a little supplement or a supportive
- 52:16measure, but when you take running away for such a long
- 52:18time, you can't expect to be running fast off purely cycling.
- 52:25Yeah. And I think I mean like what
- 52:28we're doing on the bike wouldn't lend itself to running a fast 10
- 52:33Ki wouldn't have thought like I think what a lot of what the
- 52:36bike has been is aerobic endurance and a great.
- 52:39And so I think it might lay them late.
- 52:42Hopefully what is my hope is that it's a good foundation for
- 52:47for what you do. Like even if you're doing your
- 52:52base stuff at the minute, Owen, I would imagine you would feel,
- 52:55even though it's a lot of running, that maybe you feel
- 52:58it's a bit blunt, like you're not sharpening towards anything
- 53:01just yet. Like that's literally me to a
- 53:05tee at the moment because like I've raised in two weeks.
- 53:07So I'm doing a 15102 weeks and I'm sort of like freaking out
- 53:10that like I am, I've done literally like I'm hoping to run
- 53:16like on like 240 kilometer pace for this 1500 or whatever.
- 53:20And I haven't touched any speed whatsoever.
- 53:24So yeah, I'm just worried for that.
- 53:26Like fair enough. The first lap might be all
- 53:28right, but like the 2 3/4 after that might be and might be
- 53:33pretty sore, but I am done a long run where a lad is that
- 53:37knows that's pretty good at a 1500 which will first half end
- 53:41of training weeks and he sort of reassured me that I'm going to
- 53:45be all right. So yeah, I'll be all right.
- 53:47And I think that's the point with say Ryan's race, like apart
- 53:51from like how many times have you spent above threshold, like
- 53:57doing work above threshold? Like we would do a healthy dose
- 54:00of that well above threshold on a Tuesday every week for months.
- 54:06And you've not done one in a while.
- 54:08Like there's so much opportunity for you with your training, you
- 54:12know, Touchwood, you say fit and healthier.
- 54:14So yeah, I wouldn't be reflecting too much on the time.
- 54:18I'd be reflecting on making sure your body's right and it felt
- 54:20like fun and. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:24The good thing is the main thing that I'm happy with is that when
- 54:27it did get tough, I didn't shy away from it.
- 54:30I managed to stay in it. So the motivation is still there
- 54:34and the the willingness to suffer is still there.
- 54:37Whether that's a pace that I'm happy at suffering at or just an
- 54:42average pace to suffer at are still stuck it out.
- 54:45So yeah. And your internal gauge, like
- 54:49how well did you judge your effort?
- 54:52That's pretty good. Yeah, I was pretty happy with
- 54:55that, to be honest with you. Like only four weeks ago I
- 54:59wouldn't have been able to lead the rap because I had no idea
- 55:03what 2320 felt like on what 330 felt like.
- 55:06And there I've just naturally progressed second by second ever
- 55:10so slightly. So we have plenty of positives.
- 55:15What else come from us? Our well, the easy double
- 55:18singlet lasted well, absorbed the sweat.
- 55:21Well, some of the Patreon members will be getting the
- 55:25hands on them shortly. There was Max Morelli, we had
- 55:29one in his size on our hands so he also donned it.
- 55:34So there might have been a few, few people out there thinking
- 55:38Matt was I or I was Mass and he ran a PB.
- 55:42So he's he's in the club. Yeah, seen the single out there?
- 55:48It was fun, otherwise very successful events.
- 55:52The guys who won, Andrew, well, Andrew Hellbush won in 3044 I
- 55:57think, and Thomas Cross was second, 3054 I think they were
- 56:03together all the way up to that bridge again.
- 56:05So it was good race up the front.
- 56:08How did you pull up from it, Ryan, where you saw?
- 56:12I was expecting to be a lot worse, like just a little bit of
- 56:15DOMS in my quads. But yeah, nothing much going on
- 56:19with the heel, nothing much in the car.
- 56:21So I don't know, taking a gas toward.
- 56:26Yeah, still not going to do anything stupid this week
- 56:30because yeah, my body wouldn't have felt anything like that for
- 56:33such a long time. And like with the amounts and
- 56:38quality of work that I have been doing in the running, if I can
- 56:43recover properly from that 10K, that'll just push me on a lot
- 56:48more than just what one of these threshold sessions would have.
- 56:50So go under my belt and go again.
- 56:55I see Dooku, you, you beat Dooku on a net basis.
- 57:00Did you see that in the results? So I mean, I finished fifth.
- 57:04Well according if you want to take net position as your
- 57:07results but. No, he had me even on the phone
- 57:12to RAF before the race. He was saying like, oh, Dooku
- 57:15might be similar to you. And I said something about like
- 57:21we could share the the work race, although I think he'd be
- 57:25pretty happy sitting in. And Ralph was like, yeah, you
- 57:27give him a shout like to come up.
- 57:29And I said, no, I can't do that to the kid.
- 57:32He's a young boy on his way up. We can't be asking him to get on
- 57:35the front and a 10K. Yeah, I think he's 17.
- 57:38Can't drive a car but can drive you around the bridges.
- 57:42So I can't take his 5th place off me there.
- 57:44Congratulations mate. Yeah this is.
- 57:48So that's me. How was your guys week briefly?
- 57:54I can mention mine. It's not much to say other than
- 57:56bit of a a lighter week. I was a bit sore last week so
- 57:59had a had a lot of week. I'm feeling better now, which is
- 58:03good, Yeah, just easy jogging, maybe 60 KS of running and maybe
- 58:09a bit more than that cycling, so.
- 58:13And you're feeling OK to resume this week or still a little
- 58:16tentative with her? I'll just see how I go tomorrow.
- 58:20I would say ran a couple of times today.
- 58:22Things feel a lot better, which is I think everything's fine.
- 58:25Like I think I'll, I gotta, I think I'll be all right, but I'm
- 58:30just taking a bit of a cautious approach to it because there's
- 58:33not much point to I think it's load management.
- 58:38And so I just are on the side of being safe rather than dipping
- 58:42onto the wrong side of it. Yeah, I had a pretty decent week
- 58:48as well. 148 on K, couple of threshold sessions.
- 58:57Had a funny Saturday I'd say. People thought I was crazy, like
- 59:012 minute Hells, but I had a girlfriend out aiding was out
- 59:05she. So I'd run up the hill and she'd
- 59:07drive me down. But yeah.
- 59:09And then on Sunday, on Sunday, on Sunday, I ran where Andrew
- 59:15Costner, he's flying to Flagstaff now today.
- 59:17So yeah, have nice little long run with him.
- 59:20But yeah, things are going all right.
- 59:22Just need a dance down the right side of that red line and not
- 59:26cross it. Look at the directions we've
- 59:30gone. I'm getting smacked up by 17
- 59:32year old kids and Owen's doing his long runs with national
- 59:35record holders talking crazy. The thing that blows God.
- 59:45I'm just a bit blown away by what you subjected 18 to.
- 59:50I'm still trying to get over the Saturday.
- 59:52You go ahead to drive you down, drive you down the hills.
- 59:56Yeah, because I taught what if I jog down them, the recovery
- 59:59would be too much. Sure, if you're jogging, if
- 1:00:01you're the hell is a 2 minute hell when by the time you get
- 1:00:03down it's going to be nearly 4 minutes, 4 1/2 minutes.
- 1:00:07So, umm, I the way she drove me down, I'd my rest was only 2 1/2
- 1:00:11minutes for a 2 minute effort. And so in my head.
- 1:00:15That was, yeah. I mean, look, I love the
- 1:00:24commitment. Yeah, the things we do.
- 1:00:30That is just like people have been running hills for decades
- 1:00:33and that math is just simple. Like it's in change depending on
- 1:00:37the length of the hill. Like, you know, I mean, if you
- 1:00:40run up a 32nd hill and you jog down, it's going to be a minute
- 1:00:44jog, but. I feel like that in my head that
- 1:00:50recovery was too much. Like 4 1/2 minutes is a long
- 1:00:53time. Like imagine doing a rap on a
- 1:00:55track and you're for 4 1/2 minutes.
- 1:00:57Like that's a long time. Before this one or?
- 1:01:02No, I should have. I was talking to Andrew about it
- 1:01:07and he had a similar session on the Wednesday and he was like,
- 1:01:10yeah, I just jogged down and I'm like, shit, I'm an idiot.
- 1:01:16By the way, we can get into that in the episode later on the
- 1:01:19week. They do say in terms of, you
- 1:01:22know, like angles and force, like you're never loading,
- 1:01:25you're never smacking your legs up more than when you're running
- 1:01:27downhill. So in terms of, you know, you
- 1:01:30are dancing a bit of a lion in terms of, you know, de risking
- 1:01:34that. But I couldn't even post the
- 1:01:36activity on Strava because. You're in behalf of.
- 1:01:40It when she was driving down the IT was running.
- 1:01:42It was like was in a 140 like kilometer paste.
- 1:01:46So when I finished the activity, it was like, congratulations,
- 1:01:49you've run fourteen O 3 for 5K and like 29 flat for 10K.
- 1:01:55So yeah, I delete the activity. Couldn't be having that.
- 1:02:02But yeah, decent week. All right, well, if you want to
- 1:02:05hear more about Owen's girlfriend driving him over the
- 1:02:08hill, driving him down the hills, then you can you can join
- 1:02:11us over on Patreon running news, then this is powered by Gnomeo,
- 1:02:18the performance supplement trusted by Andras Armgren, Cole
- 1:02:20Hocker, Connor man, Connor man's Izzy about Doyle and many more
- 1:02:24drinking no meal and prepare to outperform.
- 1:02:27I did have a shot. No meal on Sunday, actually half
- 1:02:30five in the morning. Actually quite like the taste of
- 1:02:33it, you know, weirdly, it's nice.
- 1:02:36It's not bad, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:39It's not like that. In one shot, John's better.
- 1:02:42In one shot, 2 two shots. It can be all time that move,
- 1:02:49but do you remember what was the what's the stuff in those
- 1:02:52bottles? It tastes like pool water.
- 1:02:57Yeah. Ketone IQ K times.
- 1:03:00Now that tastes fuck me. Unpleasant.
- 1:03:02That knocked you out that. Shit.
- 1:03:07So yes, no, no, me are much more pleasant, much more palatable.
- 1:03:12Even though that ketones that sort of died off, that trend
- 1:03:15hasn't. It I haven't heard much of it.
- 1:03:21Oh, and you've got a few items here in this the news.
- 1:03:25Oh, yeah, So those new women's European 10K record on the road.
- 1:03:30So if you want to run a fast 10K, where do you go?
- 1:03:34Spain. So this time it was the north of
- 1:03:37Spain, outside Bilbao in a place called Lardo.
- 1:03:41And there was another 10K. And then Clara Lukan from
- 1:03:46Slovenia, you've probably seen her.
- 1:03:48She got like ready orangey hair. And she's the first woman.
- 1:03:52She's the first European women woman to ever break 30 minutes,
- 1:03:56and she broke it pretty well. She ran 2950 to be the first
- 1:04:02European woman to ever get under 30 minutes.
- 1:04:05And then worry Leonard from Macau was also in that race.
- 1:04:09He came third and ran 2757, which, yeah, he'd be happy with
- 1:04:16that one. It's a good result after he
- 1:04:18would have been pretty disappointed with his 10K on the
- 1:04:20track. I find it hard to contemplate a
- 1:04:26Slovenian woman has just gone and been the first woman to do
- 1:04:30that ahead of battle. Classy.
- 1:04:31A Slovenian woman who I wasn't all too familiar with but she's
- 1:04:36got fast times across the board. Like she's run 6343 half
- 1:04:41marathon 14455 K. But still those two don't.
- 1:04:48They wouldn't equate to sub 30 would do.
- 1:04:50That's by far the standout performance.
- 1:04:53Our 63 is better, isn't it? No 6643.
- 1:04:57Oh sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. I know women are better.
- 1:05:03I don't really know but it's fucking fast.
- 1:05:05Like I only better by 6 seconds in Valencia.
- 1:05:09That's where I put it in my head.
- 1:05:11Let's see what. She's done.
- 1:05:15She finished fifth in the European Chimps.
- 1:05:21Yeah, fair play Sir. I have seen her though.
- 1:05:23When you sent the post through with that red hair she looks
- 1:05:25like semi familiar. Then I think we can all be happy
- 1:05:33with this on the Turkey transfer, so all them athletes
- 1:05:37that we're trying to transfer to Turkey for like money and
- 1:05:40they've all been blocked. So World Athletics have finally
- 1:05:45and copped on on them. Yeah, they've blocked.
- 1:05:48I remember there was like a Jamaican Sprint or a few Kenyan
- 1:05:51marathoners. Yeah, all them have been
- 1:05:53blocked, thank God. And which is?
- 1:05:56Yeah, it's just good for running.
- 1:05:57I'm surprised they could do that.
- 1:06:01What transfer or block them? Block them.
- 1:06:06Are you what? Well, like, like let's say the
- 1:06:14EPL, like you're not subject to a salary cap.
- 1:06:17You can sort of open market get who you want to play for you.
- 1:06:22Yeah, but this isn't like that. Like running is different.
- 1:06:25You have to be from like these are changing like nationalities
- 1:06:30with no ties to the country. Like at least who can Declan
- 1:06:33rice or Jack reelish like their grannies or whatever are Irish
- 1:06:38or from the UK. So fair enough they played on
- 1:06:40Reg or Ireland but they have English relations.
- 1:06:43These guys have no affiliation with Turkey.
- 1:06:46But what if your country is terrible?
- 1:06:49It's at allowing you to participate in a competition and
- 1:06:53other countries will allow you. That's life.
- 1:06:58They're not. They're from Kenya and freaking
- 1:07:01Jamaica. They're just going for money.
- 1:07:05Yeah, more money in the sport. Being let go Mace, this is bad.
- 1:07:12I'm I'm just sharing my view there, I'm not trying to stir.
- 1:07:19I think it's it is good for the sport that World Athletics stood
- 1:07:22in because they cannot do this. You cannot buy athletes you're
- 1:07:25not buying could change your nationality without any ties.
- 1:07:31Like Charles Hicks. He's basically like his mother,
- 1:07:35father, American or whatever. Fair enough.
- 1:07:37He grew up in England, but he has American ties.
- 1:07:39He can go, umm, I'm not even that Zohair Talbi guy.
- 1:07:44I don't think I'm too on board with that.
- 1:07:46Like a lot of these runners are actually doing that in America
- 1:07:49now. Like they go to college over
- 1:07:50there and then they're able to change like allegiances.
- 1:07:53Like I just don't get it. Like even there was a bit of
- 1:07:57topic habiton change moving to America or something like that.
- 1:08:01Well, yeah, why would say he's tried to.
- 1:08:03He's hit that many standards now and Eritrea won't let him
- 1:08:07participate at an Olympic Games or World Championships.
- 1:08:13Like, yeah, like, that is very, very tough, but like, you have
- 1:08:16to go back to their federation. And why?
- 1:08:18Why aren't they Lanham? Yeah, I think if it's done in
- 1:08:22the right spirit, but like you said is probably isn't in the
- 1:08:24spirit of athletics. Fair enough.
- 1:08:27They literally came out and said we'll give you such and such if
- 1:08:31you transfer and such and such. If you get a medal like I think
- 1:08:34no get fucked. And I think some of the
- 1:08:39countries involved were those who were like bidden for major
- 1:08:43competitions in the next like 5 to 10 years as well.
- 1:08:46When they say they were like starting to look ahead, boosting
- 1:08:50their profiles and chances of medal.
- 1:08:52And if they were to host like a world champs or an Olympics,
- 1:08:57does that take us to London, then ship it's?
- 1:08:59London Marathon this weekend. We're on the subject of which
- 1:09:05we're recording the final London call an episode pre the race
- 1:09:09this Wednesday, so very excited to talk to the lads there.
- 1:09:12I'm not sure how how open they'll be, the bag of nerves,
- 1:09:16bag of excitement, or somewhere in the middle, but if it's
- 1:09:20anything like the previous chats, it should be good fun.
- 1:09:25Hopefully you guys can help steer me with some good
- 1:09:27questions. We have to change the name of
- 1:09:30that. It's like London, London slash
- 1:09:33Yamagata calling. That's not bad.
- 1:09:37I think Jason would be pretty open.
- 1:09:39Jason is pretty open. While he's like he shows all
- 1:09:42those freaking VO2 Max tests and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:09:44I think he'll be pretty open, but while he's going to aim for.
- 1:09:48They feel similar in fitness. Jake.
- 1:09:50Yeah, Tim. That we've decided each other a
- 1:09:53lot, I'd say. Yeah.
- 1:09:55So hopefully they can find, they'll probably be getting a
- 1:09:57sense for what the pacing groups will be will be out.
- 1:10:00So hopefully there's something suitable.
- 1:10:04I wonder what's going to happen now a male crashes out because
- 1:10:07Alex, she was going to be kind of pace him to a British record,
- 1:10:10wasn't he? So Willie just yeah.
- 1:10:14That was the talk, wasn't it? Because he was true.
- 1:10:17Was that to return the favour basically?
- 1:10:21Yeah, she's got a bit of a preview here.
- 1:10:24I don't know if we can try and pick a winner, which if you look
- 1:10:28at any single one, the elite field, it's probably, if not the
- 1:10:32best, one of the best marathon start lists ever been put
- 1:10:35together. Yeah.
- 1:10:37This. This is outrageous.
- 1:10:39Hey, this field like because we're looking at like those
- 1:10:42Boston fields and remember, we'll commenting on how stacked
- 1:10:45they are. But like this is, this feels
- 1:10:49like it's a little bit on another level.
- 1:10:53Yeah, I reckon so. So it's headlined.
- 1:10:58I mean, they've got to put someone at the top of the list,
- 1:11:00haven't they? Whether they do it but
- 1:11:01deliberate or by accident. Sebastian Solway comes in top
- 1:11:06with a PB of 2O2. He won London and Berlin in
- 1:11:112025, both 2O2 runs, and he won Valencia in 2024 as well, so
- 1:11:17he's run 2O2 three times. He's him and John Korea.
- 1:11:24Arguably I like the most inform reliable male marathoners on the
- 1:11:29planet. Then next you've got Jacob
- 1:11:33Kaplimo who's run 2/02/23, the infamous half marathon world
- 1:11:39record holder Ham run 5642 illegitimately in Barcelona and
- 1:11:45then done it again 5720 in Portugal earlier this year.
- 1:11:49Last year in this race, he was second in a 2:03 on his debut.
- 1:11:53He then went on to win Chicago later in the year, Olympic
- 1:11:58bronze medal in the 10K double, Commonwealth gold, bronze champ,
- 1:12:03bronze medal at the World Champs and won world cross country four
- 1:12:08times. He then got Theresa Galassa,
- 1:12:11another 2O2 man. So there's three men in the
- 1:12:13field who have PPS of 2O2, which like if you get the day for it,
- 1:12:19if there's three guys who have run 2O2 before, why wouldn't
- 1:12:24they be trying to go? And now have a look at two
- 1:12:27hours. Anyway, Theresa Galata, he's
- 1:12:31maybe a little bit of a step down in terms of form.
- 1:12:34He was fifth in the Paris Marathon 2024, second in last
- 1:12:38year's Tokyo last year around 5 marathons and DNF three of them.
- 1:12:43So don't be surprised if this guy, if he isn't having the day
- 1:12:47once he just steps off. He's second in Valencia in 2024
- 1:12:52and he won Seville in 2024 and two O 3 Capruso, Amos Capruso,
- 1:12:59he's a PB of two O 3. That's from 2022.
- 1:13:02So going back a couple of years now, he is a previous winner of
- 1:13:06this race though he won in 2022, run 2O four and then he DNF the
- 1:13:11year later. He was second in Chicago last
- 1:13:15year and his podium that a major five times.
- 1:13:18The next guy down and the final one I'll give detail for because
- 1:13:22surely one of these five are going to come away with the win.
- 1:13:25Tamrat Sola actually don't write off some of the debutants, but
- 1:13:29we'll get the Tamrat Sola 20339 PB.
- 1:13:34The reign and Olympic champion from Paris World Championships
- 1:13:38winner in 2022 won New York in 2023 and he ran 2:05 in January
- 1:13:45of this year, so only a few months ago to win the race.
- 1:13:48So if that's not a sure sign of what form he's in, I don't know
- 1:13:53what is. And there was a period where
- 1:13:55Tolow was considered the best marathoner in the world as well,
- 1:13:59given he's the reigning Olympic champion.
- 1:14:02Things change fast. And the other guys on the elite
- 1:14:05start list, you've got Petros, Geoffrey Cam, War War, Joshua
- 1:14:08Chapter guy, Paddy Diva, Peter Lynch, Tim Vincent, Jake Smith,
- 1:14:13Mark Scott, Phil Sessman and then a couple of very exciting
- 1:14:17debutants in Yarmouth. Kajalcha, who was the long time
- 1:14:21half marathon world record holder.
- 1:14:24I think even earlier in his career he was the mile world
- 1:14:27record holder for a while. Gabriel, he Wet and Alfie
- 1:14:32Manthorpe from a British perspective also making debut.
- 1:14:35A lot of excitement around him. So I guess we need to answer 2
- 1:14:39questions. Who wins the race overall and
- 1:14:42who is the first male Brit? I think Sebastian Sawy wins us.
- 1:14:52I think every Martin he's ran, he's nailed.
- 1:14:56And then first Brit, I'm going for, I'm going what has Patty
- 1:15:08Diver run for half I? Don't know.
- 1:15:13Did he run the Houston half? It's.
- 1:15:16Probably around 60 low or something like that.
- 1:15:18I think around 6011 or something.
- 1:15:21I it's like, is he better than Phil Sussman?
- 1:15:24Is this his debut? It's Patty Diver.
- 1:15:27This his debut. Now he brand new and I remember.
- 1:15:30He didn't, he finished get elevated to 3rd in New York so
- 1:15:35he's podium did a world major. Yeah, I'm putting it on a Beaver
- 1:15:40first, Brett. Yeah.
- 1:15:45Coming over from America as well, it probably feels like a
- 1:15:49little bit less, less pressure than the likes of Sessman, who's
- 1:15:53run this race like three or four times in a row now.
- 1:15:57And he's like, Sessman's got such a big profile within the
- 1:16:00UK. Paddy Diva can almost fly under
- 1:16:02the radar a little bit. But I think Peter Lynch beats
- 1:16:06all the Brits. You reckon?
- 1:16:09Oh, and. I know it.
- 1:16:12As he ran 59 this year, As he. He ran 5956 in 50. 9, 5952 and
- 1:16:21was just ahead of Paddy Diva who ran 5956 so did get him that
- 1:16:26day. Peter Lynch, New Irish Records.
- 1:16:32The Irishman come and spoil the party.
- 1:16:35Yeah, I like that. As a guest, he's bringing the
- 1:16:38party. Dean, where are you?
- 1:16:43London. Yeah, well, I don't want to go
- 1:16:47the same as Owen. I mean, how good is it going to
- 1:16:54be that lead group as long as the pace is not suicidal, Like
- 1:17:00because Gebrahe, what? Didn't he run the second fastest
- 1:17:03time ever in like one of those? It was like Monaco Diamond
- 1:17:09League two years ago around like 1236 for 5K Kajelcher's like
- 1:17:20what's he just come off the back of?
- 1:17:21Was he he just got out sprinted, didn't he, by Gressier or was
- 1:17:26it? Yeah, which which was it, 5 or
- 1:17:2810K that he just got out kicked in the chance?
- 1:17:32Oh sure. He I think he was in that race
- 1:17:35in France as well. Was he that fast one that Grezi
- 1:17:37around 12:51? Was he?
- 1:17:40I don't remember him. Or maybe he wasn't.
- 1:17:44But like, I mean, those guys are outrageous, but I just they're
- 1:17:49not proven over the to be different.
- 1:17:52I I I'll go keep Lamo just to take someone other than subway.
- 1:18:00But yeah, I think that that probably makes sense.
- 1:18:06Kid. Lamo is what just come out and
- 1:18:09ran another ridiculously fast half marathon.
- 1:18:11Looks so smooth. So Yep, that's where I'll go.
- 1:18:18And then in terms of first Brit, I'll go.
- 1:18:22Can I go Paddy Daver? Yeah, I'm more Peter Lynch.
- 1:18:30All right, I was also going to go Kaplino so as gutted that you
- 1:18:33said them, but I'm going to I'm going to stay on him because I
- 1:18:35do think he's going to do it. Like you say, he's that, he's
- 1:18:39got a couple under his belt now. We've bizarrely on debut.
- 1:18:43There's almost expectation or perhaps for so that he might
- 1:18:48break 2 hours and then he runs like 202 or 203, whatever, and
- 1:18:53it's seen as a little bit disappointing.
- 1:18:56So he's got the experience of completing a couple of
- 1:18:59marathons. He's run very close.
- 1:19:03Well, he's run a time that would win this race many years.
- 1:19:07And like you say, he's just run that 5720 half marathon world
- 1:19:11record. So I think he could be could be
- 1:19:16about to serve one up here. In terms of the breadths, I'll
- 1:19:23go Sassman for the not fairy tale, but he's almost the
- 1:19:29homegrown hero, leading Brit along alongside Mohammed
- 1:19:34Mohammed. I'll change.
- 1:19:36I might change my Brit. I'll go Jack Smith just because
- 1:19:39I feel like he's a sniff and we got to back our man in.
- 1:19:45He is but. He's genuinely a chance.
- 1:19:49Yeah, on his day like them boys are going to wear hot I think as
- 1:19:53well and Jake will like I think he's guaranteed gauges effort.
- 1:19:57So yeah, I would not put it past them absolutely now.
- 1:20:03I'm too easily convinced I want to jump on the bandwagon with
- 1:20:07these as well. Like a cut.
- 1:20:08A confident Jake is a dangerous Jake.
- 1:20:11Maybe assessment maybe is a little bit too much work.
- 1:20:16Over the past 12 months he's raced multiple marathons.
- 1:20:19Jake Smith's going to be hungry as anything for this.
- 1:20:23What time do we think first Brit is going to come in like new?
- 1:20:27What's the British record most? OK, so maybe not that, but maybe
- 1:20:31what would we see a 2O62O7? See, I think he ever has it.
- 1:20:38But I was shame. That's what I assume.
- 1:20:40That's what Patty Davis shoots for.
- 1:20:41If he's run 60 flat for 1/2, he goes out at 3 minute K pace,
- 1:20:45assuming that pace groups are there.
- 1:20:48Because apparently Alfie Manthorpe, he was on about that
- 1:20:50two O 930, that European standard, and now he wants to go
- 1:20:54at two O 8. And so it's just going to be
- 1:21:00such a good race. And I hope, I hope to God they
- 1:21:03put cameras on these labs and we're not just stuck looking at
- 1:21:07freaking 4 Kenyans just run away with it.
- 1:21:11I hope they do it well. At least at this race.
- 1:21:15Like I mean like Cam Wara, Petros, Tola, keep Ruto Galata,
- 1:21:22keep limos away like Gabriel. What could you like?
- 1:21:26They're not, they're people we've, you know, the sport have
- 1:21:29followed for a long time. It's not people that are
- 1:21:32unknown. So no matter which part of the
- 1:21:35race you're looking at, you're going to be entertained.
- 1:21:39But the Valencia, you know how the Valencia broadcast though is
- 1:21:43a bit exceptional where they're, they're renowned for getting
- 1:21:46national records and their commentators are cutting a bit
- 1:21:49to those. They're panning through the
- 1:21:51field to them. I worry that we don't get the
- 1:21:54same coverage, particularly for the the GB, not even the home,
- 1:21:58you know, home fans to watch. I think there's there's almost
- 1:22:03the danger of these races producing such depth.
- 1:22:06They're going to start tending to Japanese style, aren't they?
- 1:22:09Were like everyone agrees to just absolutely send there and
- 1:22:14then it's a bit of a war of attrition.
- 1:22:16Like a couple of people fade and step off.
- 1:22:19It's not their day, but those that do make it get something
- 1:22:23exceptional because you almost know, like if you stood on the
- 1:22:28start line with all of that talent, you're going to have to
- 1:22:32do something exceptional if you're going to like finish high
- 1:22:36up really. On the women's side, do we is
- 1:22:42just going to be how? No Berry, I'm guessing.
- 1:22:45We go reverse order for pics or. Yeah, right.
- 1:22:51So it's happened by Tigs de Safa.
- 1:22:54Former world record holder to 1153 Sufan Hassan is returning
- 1:23:00from what feels like an eternity.
- 1:23:02She's gone. Oh, she's gone.
- 1:23:04Pulled. Out.
- 1:23:05Yeah, yeah. So second seed is Jocelyn Jack
- 1:23:10Cos guy 214 flat. Is.
- 1:23:13She there or she gone as well? Nah, she Perez, Jeff Churches
- 1:23:18she has. Pulled out as well because.
- 1:23:21The can do is a conspiracy that like I seen remember, sent it
- 1:23:26through and it's like if you know you're going to fail a
- 1:23:28test, then you avoid the test. So like when it was announced
- 1:23:33that she wasn't racing to his theories that yeah, she's just
- 1:23:37stepping away from the limelight, which if you think
- 1:23:40back pre everything that came out with Rich Roof Chapman, get
- 1:23:43it, when she announced was at London last year, she was due to
- 1:23:46race as well. And she said like.
- 1:23:49She didn't have the mental capacity for it or something.
- 1:23:52And then a couple of months down the line there's the right was
- 1:23:56on the wall. So yeah, then we've got Helena
- 1:24:00Berry 21741 Digitu as in row 2/17/58.
- 1:24:08And then from a British perspective, Charlotte Perdue
- 1:24:11222, Rose Harvey 223 Abby Donnelly 224, Irish Mccolgan
- 1:24:17224. Just one of George Julia
- 1:24:20Peternion, the Uruguayan bronze medallist from World Champs.
- 1:24:25Should that be a write up? Wouldn't it if after changing
- 1:24:30allegiances from UK going to Medellin for Uruguay, she then
- 1:24:35comes to the London Marathon and spoils the party from them?
- 1:24:44So it's a safer Jeff Cos Guy O'berry on paper, isn't it?
- 1:24:48They're the three. So this is paste race, isn't it?
- 1:24:53Yeah. I wonder what O'berry will do in
- 1:24:56a paste race. Surely she's she ran the legs
- 1:24:58off your one in New York. I think O'berry wins this one.
- 1:25:03That's exactly what that's where my head was going.
- 1:25:06I just, I just wanted to beat you to the tip.
- 1:25:08But like, the way she ran, the way she absolutely brain that
- 1:25:13field, which was like sticking it to the world cross country
- 1:25:18champion who stuck it to everyone at the world cross.
- 1:25:23I don't know. She looks on another planet.
- 1:25:25So yeah, maybe SFR is probably the only potential challenger,
- 1:25:31do you think? Yeah, she's the the reigning
- 1:25:36champ from last year. She won it in 250 and 50.
- 1:25:41And she's the former world record holder as well, right?
- 1:25:43When she ran that 211 in, where was that?
- 1:25:48Was that Berlin in the Adidas shoe?
- 1:25:50Yeah. Who won who?
- 1:25:53So in the Olympics or in the World Championships?
- 1:25:58His son won. It was Oberian Osafa as well,
- 1:26:02wasn't it? Who won?
- 1:26:03Who won? A Dark day I.
- 1:26:05Think so. I feel like maybe a furious
- 1:26:08third. Would that be right?
- 1:26:10Yeah, again, it's going to be good on.
- 1:26:13Yeah, Olympic Games silver medalist is a SEFA.
- 1:26:17OK, so I didn't know we read that day.
- 1:26:20I think Jeff Churches she the Olympic champion, no.
- 1:26:25Oh, is this world champs or is it?
- 1:26:28Do you remember Hassan done the triple?
- 1:26:31Oh yeah? Was that world champs or was it
- 1:26:33Olympics? That was a little.
- 1:26:36Yeah. OK.
- 1:26:38So who won that one? Because I think three of them
- 1:26:42were together in that one. Yeah, I have memories of that
- 1:26:48little small Jeff chair, Chair just pulling away.
- 1:26:51But that could just have been another major.
- 1:26:55Let's have a look. Yeah.
- 1:26:57She Jeff Chichi won. I don't know in Tokyo.
- 1:27:02Jeff Chichi won Tokyo. Yeah, it went Hassan, Asefa,
- 1:27:07O'biri. OK, Hassan and Hassan and Asefa
- 1:27:11were the ones. Remember when they banged into
- 1:27:13each other round in that corner? Yeah, that was good.
- 1:27:17Yeah. So sugar maybe Asefa hazard
- 1:27:21then? Seth has a chance, but her beery
- 1:27:23looks in outrageous shut. That half marathon was
- 1:27:26ridiculous and she knows how to you'd back her in in a fight in
- 1:27:33a scrap. I reckon The thing is if she's
- 1:27:35going to win she's going to have to probably run a decent PB.
- 1:27:40Yeah, but that's only because she's just run so many of those
- 1:27:44Boston, NY double S in the American races.
- 1:27:50All right, then I'll go Safa for the differential if used to
- 1:27:53aside and with her beery. And then on the GB side, who are
- 1:27:58you going run? I'll say Irish Mccolgon is going
- 1:28:02to get a day and maybe break 220.
- 1:28:06I think, yeah, that would have to.
- 1:28:10She'd have to be the favorite by a bit on the GB side, right?
- 1:28:15Yeah. Like she's just come out and
- 1:28:17run. Well, she run, she's run 6708
- 1:28:20this year and 3008. Like if you put in in context
- 1:28:29Abby Donnelly's run, 3222, Rose Harvey's run, 72 minutes for the
- 1:28:37half. Yeah, they don't quite compute.
- 1:28:41No, unless it's Charlotte, but you in any in in any.
- 1:28:47I don't think so as she was honest.
- 1:28:50She's on the start less. She ran in Ireland, yeah.
- 1:28:52She ran in Ireland the other day.
- 1:28:54She ran like a 60 minute 10 mile or something.
- 1:28:59I think it was Doc Sonya O'Sullivan one.
- 1:29:02She ran 60. Yeah. 60. 1/4 or something then
- 1:29:06she. Yeah.
- 1:29:07So no, I think Irish Mccallgan all day long.
- 1:29:11Yeah. If yeah, if Hailish gets to the
- 1:29:15to the finish line, she she probably won't even see some of
- 1:29:18the these British girls, like she's probably in a pace group
- 1:29:21ahead of them, isn't she? Yeah.
- 1:29:27Clear the Diaries Sunday evening, we'll be tuning in.
- 1:29:31And then, yeah, the the stars of the London Calling show as well,
- 1:29:35Tim Vincent and Jake Smith. I don't really want to call a
- 1:29:39winner between them two, but at least we've got both horses in
- 1:29:43the race. Both the.
- 1:29:45PB that would be, yeah, that would be, yeah, that's what
- 1:29:50you're. Hopeful.
- 1:29:51And then like once you come on the show for a Row 2 series,
- 1:29:54you're guaranteed to PV. So yeah, we just need to start
- 1:29:57off with two PBS and we're good. Either that or you end up
- 1:30:01running acadine so there's multiple pathways open.
- 1:30:09YouTube Diaries. Have you boys been on YouTube
- 1:30:11this week? I've been just looking at all
- 1:30:15the Boston like sort of the last recaps Ingroy Linklater had one
- 1:30:18chain and Young had one. Izzy was posting I think 2 weeks
- 1:30:23ago. I've been just like eating
- 1:30:25through all that sort of stuff. You love it.
- 1:30:27I didn't realize how big Boston Marathon was and they just
- 1:30:31everyone speaks so highly of it. It's yeah, definitely one for
- 1:30:34the bucket list it. Would be a buzz, wouldn't it?
- 1:30:38Yeah. It's it's easy to like not get,
- 1:30:41not think about it all year. But then when it comes around,
- 1:30:44yeah, you do kind of get like sucked into it in a little bit.
- 1:30:48It's a little bit infectious, isn't it?
- 1:30:50Like especially Americans or OTT only.
- 1:30:53And then when when something like that comes around, the OTT
- 1:30:59Ness kind of rubs off on me and I get sucked into it.
- 1:31:03I was even. I was looking at the couple of
- 1:31:06hours ago, I was looking at the there's a stream of them, like
- 1:31:10they're in the hotel and like they've lined the corridor of
- 1:31:14the hotel and they've got like people would like pom poms and
- 1:31:17then the elite athletes like walk through to get the boss and
- 1:31:21like people are just like roar and cheer.
- 1:31:23And it's just so yeah, Americanized and.
- 1:31:25But still, it looks unbelievable and.
- 1:31:29Shit. So yeah, it's it'll be off by an
- 1:31:31hour, won't it? See if you can pull up any early
- 1:31:35split. It hasn't.
- 1:31:36The wheelchairs are off, the guys are, I think it's 36 and so
- 1:31:436 minutes time, I think they go off 37.
- 1:31:48The have you watched the the highlight package of the 2018
- 1:31:55Boston Marathon, which has Yuki Kawuchi feature?
- 1:31:59Blocks, yeah. That's that's the legendary one.
- 1:32:03Yeah, it's like my favorite. It's like one of my favorite
- 1:32:07marathon montage videos. It's got over 1,000,000 views on
- 1:32:12YouTube. It's a good one.
- 1:32:13If anyone fancies it, it's bad weather, tough.
- 1:32:18Japanese Mantis. And what do they call it?
- 1:32:21They call him the citizen runner.
- 1:32:23He used to run like a marathon every other weekend.
- 1:32:25I think he's got some sort of record.
- 1:32:27What's he? He's done over 100 sub 2 to 20
- 1:32:29marathons I think. Is he still going now?
- 1:32:33I know he's running like last year and stuff.
- 1:32:35Was he active this year? I don't know, I've not started
- 1:32:37to cross it but. I'll tell you what my YouTube
- 1:32:41Diaries is for the week. Have either of you seen Justin
- 1:32:47Bieber and Coachella? I have.
- 1:32:50I was. Do you know I was there 2010
- 1:32:53years ago? Where you yeah, you had line.
- 1:32:58There, it's like the weekend. Maybe Beyoncé, Eminem.
- 1:33:04I think they were some of the headline acts.
- 1:33:07Well, those were the days. Might have been Avicii or
- 1:33:11something like that. Cargo.
- 1:33:13How was it? Was it full influencer stuff
- 1:33:16then or not? Not so.
- 1:33:17Much. Yeah, yeah, it's all about the
- 1:33:19outfit. But yes, his his YouTube
- 1:33:23contents pretty top tier, wasn't it?
- 1:33:25He basically did a show from his YouTube algorithm.
- 1:33:31It's genius, isn't? It it's pretty cool.
- 1:33:34Because apparently sold all the rights to like that is early
- 1:33:37music. So like technically if he just
- 1:33:40pulls it up on YouTube and sings over it, it's just doing
- 1:33:42karaoke. So it's a big a few to the music
- 1:33:46label. Yeah, very clever.
- 1:33:49You know, I, I have seen him back in the day in Manchester
- 1:33:53and it was one of those shows where he was obviously a little
- 1:33:56bit mentally unstable because the crowd were obviously like
- 1:34:00screaming girls. They were singing.
- 1:34:03And he obviously had his earpiece in and he must have
- 1:34:06been able to hear himself singing because the crowd are
- 1:34:09that loud. And he like seen his ass said
- 1:34:12something. And then 5 minutes I walked off
- 1:34:14the stage and then about half an hour later reluctantly came back
- 1:34:20on and finished in like awful manner.
- 1:34:23Just clearly couldn't be asked. But he's a reformed man now and
- 1:34:28I'm, I'm here for it. I do love this music.
- 1:34:34Yeah, believer. Is that what they call it?
- 1:34:36Yeah, something like that. I was shaking his head.
- 1:34:40You know, into Bieber. No, Mike, because my girlfriend,
- 1:34:44she was 18, she was on about that Coachella thing as well.
- 1:34:49And she like, got up to like, freaking listen to this.
- 1:34:52And like, I don't fully comprehend how much of an impact
- 1:34:58he had on, like, young girls when they were growing up.
- 1:35:01Like, they absolutely loved him like prime Justin Bieber.
- 1:35:06And yeah, because I just, I don't know, I felt growing up, I
- 1:35:11didn't really pass any hidden on like for, for.
- 1:35:16This teenage girl, it was like, he's a world, he's still pretty,
- 1:35:19he's pretty dreamy for most people I reckon.
- 1:35:23Look at him, well put together, great voice.
- 1:35:28Can he run? Probably not Harry Styles.
- 1:35:32Has gotten covered in a marathon Double trouble, anyone?
- 1:35:40When you went with the sign, didn't you?
- 1:35:43Yeah, you were going to grow up. I had one as well and I wrote it
- 1:35:49down. No shit.
- 1:35:51What was it? I'm blanking on myself.
- 1:35:56Extreme, you porno. Yeah.
- 1:36:04It's getting to that time. No, if the double troll comes
- 1:36:08back to me, we'll do it on the No Agenda show and I'll try and
- 1:36:10go hard on which we'll also, we can recap Boston fully on
- 1:36:15Wednesday, so that'll be fun. Otherwise fellas, any last
- 1:36:21comment or thoughts, We'll be done.
- 1:36:27We're done. I'm signing out.
- 1:36:29All right, let's go and enjoy Boston.
- 1:36:32Yeah. Cheers guys.
