- 0:14Speaker 2: podcast videos, interviews, all sorts of stuff.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Just go to and Culture dot substack dot com and Culture.
- 0:21Speaker 1: How you doing fantastic? How are you? Mark Simon?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Good?
- 0:25Speaker 1: No?
- 0:26Speaker 3: Did I see you marching in that No Kings thing
- 0:28Speaker 3: on Saturday?
- 0:30Speaker 1: Uh? No, I would have brought the average age down
- 0:35Speaker 1: by about thirty years.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it did look like Halloween at the Senior Center,
- 0:40Speaker 3: didn't it.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah. It's very weird that these I mean, this has
- 0:45Speaker 1: got to be like the Bill Clinton generation and they
- 0:48Speaker 1: really think it's the Summer of love and they get
- 0:50Speaker 1: to have re sex and they're young and good looking,
- 0:53Speaker 1: and boy they aren't oh that that ship of sale.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it was more like the Eugene McCarthy generation,
- 1:00Speaker 3: the George McGovern generation.
- 1:02Speaker 1: So the Charles Manson generation.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Yeah. Today yesterday in Chinatown Ice rated they were resting illegals,
- 1:13Speaker 3: illegal vendors, and the Democrats were up in arms protesting.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Now is that a good idea? You know, those illegal
- 1:21Speaker 3: vendors in Chinatown. That's where you get the counterfeit Gucci
- 1:24Speaker 3: and Louis Vutan and do we really want to eliminate that?
- 1:29Speaker 3: We kind of like that.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I would think that more people would be sympathetic to
- 1:33Speaker 1: keeping that than keeping many many other places alleged illegals go.
- 1:42Speaker 1: But I do think it's a little bit different than
- 1:45Speaker 1: the traditional Canal street vendors they have. They have storefront,
- 1:50Speaker 1: so I don't even know that they're they're illegal. The
- 1:54Speaker 1: new push I gather was from the African selling stuff
- 1:57Speaker 1: on the street, and I do think that that is
- 2:00Speaker 1: quite different than having a storefront that that does start
- 2:04Speaker 1: to look like a very peasant third world country where
- 2:07Speaker 1: people just throw blankets on the ground and hawk their goods.
- 2:12Speaker 1: No got a storefront, and to have a storefront, I mean,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I think they're Koreans. The Koreans there. They're probably legal.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know those storefronts in China Town where
- 2:23Speaker 3: you buy that stuff, you got a whisper and then
- 2:24Speaker 3: they whisper it back to you and then they take
- 2:26Speaker 3: you down in the base.
- 2:27Speaker 1: The goods are legal, Oh okay, but this was an
- 2:32Speaker 1: ice ray. They're supposed to be looking for the illegal immigrants,
- 2:35Speaker 1: not the knockoff Gucci bag.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah, so yeah, just make sure that you're legal and
- 2:42Speaker 3: you can sell it. The illegal part, that's Gucci's problem.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Don't let them worry about it. But right, this White
- 2:51Speaker 3: House demolition, it's happened before a million times with other presents.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Why did they Why did these Democrats get themselves so
- 3:00Speaker 3: outrage they're talking about desecration of the White House from
- 3:03Speaker 3: adding a ballroom.
- 3:05Speaker 1: No. Also, I like democrats pretending that they care about
- 3:08Speaker 1: desecration after years of them ripping down centuries old American history,
- 3:16Speaker 1: all of the monuments anyone, if anyone in American history
- 3:22Speaker 1: who held a slave or did not denounce slavery, which
- 3:25Speaker 1: would be you know, everyone on the face of the earth,
- 3:29Speaker 1: since slavery existed in every country, every place. And guess what,
- 3:32Speaker 1: it still exists today, Mark Simone, principally in sub Sahara, Africa.
- 3:38Speaker 1: But no one will point that out. Perhaps we should
- 3:41Speaker 1: cut off their funding. But no, this is what I mean.
- 3:44Speaker 1: All the Black Lives Matter protests, the ripping down of history,
- 3:48Speaker 1: the replacing portraits, and universities, you know the science room,
- 3:52Speaker 1: it has all their Nobel prize winners. Nope, got to
- 3:55Speaker 1: take those portraits down because they're all white males, So yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 1: don't don't. Oh the orson arson and mostly peaceful protests.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Do not talk to me about desecration.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah. So, if you're going to get rid of anything
- 4:08Speaker 3: that had a racist past, wouldn't you have to get
- 4:11Speaker 3: rid of the Democratic Party? Since?
- 4:13Speaker 1: Oh yes, let's start there. That's a fine idea.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Hey, tonight is the final mayoral debate, seven o'clock tonight.
- 4:24Speaker 3: What do you think can we stop? Mom Donnie?
- 4:28Speaker 1: No, no, no. The only shot ever, and even that
- 4:32Speaker 1: was a long shot, was was Adams that that is
- 4:35Speaker 1: a pure generic choice what you have now versus something
- 4:39Speaker 1: much worse. There are so many reasons to hate Cuombo.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I really, I've never thought he has a chance. Many
- 4:45Speaker 1: people hate him for many different reasons. I mean, maybe
- 4:48Speaker 1: these will be famous last words. I don't think it's
- 4:50Speaker 1: going to be a day at the beach if he
- 4:52Speaker 1: wins anyway, And I guess all we can hope for
- 4:55Speaker 1: is I mean, New York City will get worse. The
- 4:58Speaker 1: main thing Mom Donnie can do is make crime even
- 5:03Speaker 1: worse than it is now, which seems kind of hard
- 5:07Speaker 1: to believe. But a lot of the things he's promising
- 5:11Speaker 1: he can't do. He will, he will have childre befoors.
- 5:13Speaker 1: He's definitely gonna help wealthy landlords with non rent stabilized
- 5:18Speaker 1: apartments if he freezes rents as he claims, he will
- 5:22Speaker 1: on the one third of rental apartments that are in
- 5:27Speaker 1: New York City that are rent stabilized, that just makes
- 5:29Speaker 1: the non rent stabilized apartments more valuable, so those landlords
- 5:34Speaker 1: can increase the rent through the roof. There's a limited
- 5:39Speaker 1: supply thanks to mom dommy. So he will he will
- 5:42Speaker 1: be helping people well like himself. And it is absolutely outrageous,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and it was so glib and flippant to say, oh,
- 5:51Speaker 1: you know, Cuomo thinks that he can he can solve
- 5:54Speaker 1: the affordability crisis by raising my and my wife's rent. No,
- 6:00Speaker 1: the point is he's rich living in a rent controlled
- 6:04Speaker 1: apartment that's supposed to be to help low and middle
- 6:09Speaker 1: income New Yorkers, not rich New Yorkers. But of course
- 6:13Speaker 1: rent control is there is no income qualification in New
- 6:17Speaker 1: York for rent control department. So a few years ago
- 6:20Speaker 1: Reason magazine did an investigation and looked up all these
- 6:25Speaker 1: New Yorkers Manhattan nights paying nine hundred dollars a month,
- 6:28Speaker 1: three bedroom apartments. Meanwhile, they have two million dollar homes
- 6:32Speaker 1: in East Hampton.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Yeah, if we had real press, actual real legitimate media,
- 6:39Speaker 3: then everything would be different. You know, they might keep
- 6:41Speaker 3: pointing out Democrats have controlled every inch of New York
- 6:44Speaker 3: for fifteen years, the legislature, city council, governor, mayor fifteen
- 6:49Speaker 3: years of this. If we have such an affordability crisis,
- 6:52Speaker 3: wouldn't make sense to get rid of the Democrats since
- 6:54Speaker 3: they it's their affordability crisis they've caused.
- 6:58Speaker 1: No, of course, you're absolutely right. Every time I fly
- 7:02Speaker 1: into any New York airport I think about this. Is
- 7:04Speaker 1: they are such complete disasters. I mean the scaffolding all
- 7:08Speaker 1: over New York. How long it takes to get anything done,
- 7:11Speaker 1: anything built? And there is there is a theory why
- 7:15Speaker 1: did why did the Access Powers after World War Two?
- 7:18Speaker 1: Why did they become you know, economic juggernauts. While Britain,
- 7:22Speaker 1: the leader of the war until we stepped in against Hitler,
- 7:28Speaker 1: became known as the sick man of Europe. Their economy
- 7:30Speaker 1: has just steadily declined since World War Two. And the
- 7:33Speaker 1: argument is, after a while, in any society, a country,
- 7:38Speaker 1: in this case, a city, special interests becomes so entrenched,
- 7:42Speaker 1: it becomes like scoliosis. You can't change, you can't move,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and you need to just destroy it and start from
- 7:50Speaker 1: start from scratch, which luckily in a way happened to
- 7:53Speaker 1: Germany and Japan. And I don't know how New York
- 7:56Speaker 1: ever gets out of this. It just seems like an
- 7:58Speaker 1: endless downward cycle. I suppose, you know, start voting Republican
- 8:03Speaker 1: and you can at least get rid of the entrenched
- 8:05Speaker 1: interests and massive corruption that runs this city so that
- 8:10Speaker 1: nothing can ever get done and the entire infrastructure is
- 8:13Speaker 1: falling apart.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's another thing to remember. In fifteen days, thirteen days,
- 8:18Speaker 3: when the election happens, get rid of Alvin Bragg, put
- 8:21Speaker 3: in the Republican DA, vote for every Republican on the
- 8:25Speaker 3: city council, change the city council. That could make a difference.
- 8:28Speaker 3: But we only got like a minute left. We got
- 8:31Speaker 3: through eight years at de Blasio. We could get through Mamdani, can't.
- 8:33Speaker 1: We Well, what's great about the city remains great as
- 8:37Speaker 1: the people in the private industries. But yes, I agree
- 8:40Speaker 1: with you. People have got to get over forget about
- 8:43Speaker 1: associating those of you who hate the Republicans everything you
- 8:46Speaker 1: hate about the Republican Party. This ought to be just
- 8:49Speaker 1: an anti corruption vote, just to shake things up. Vote
- 8:54Speaker 1: whether now we're in the next election or the next one,
- 8:56Speaker 1: just keep voting Republican in a place like New York
- 8:59Speaker 1: to shake things up if you ever want the bad
- 9:01Speaker 1: things about it to change.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Yeah, good point. Well, everybody follow and culture on Twitter. Hey,
- 9:06Speaker 3: make sure you follow on substacks. You got a lot
- 9:07Speaker 3: of stuff up there, interviews, podcast videos, all sorts of
- 9:10Speaker 3: things and culture dot substack dot com. Great stuff and Culter,
- 9:16Speaker 3: thanks for being with us.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Good to talk to you. Mark Simone, Bye bye, take care.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Hey, Now, don't forget tonight seven o'clock Final Debate. It's
- 9:27Speaker 3: on New York one. Now a lot of cable systems
- 9:29Speaker 3: don't get New York one. But I'm sure it'll be
- 9:31Speaker 3: online on YouTube. You'll be able to watch it online.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Final Debate tonight, seven o'clock until eight thirty. It's a
- 9:39Speaker 3: ninety minute debate. Unfortunately, you got Errol Lewis nice, very
- 9:43Speaker 3: nice guy, but the most slanted, biased left wing guy
- 9:48Speaker 3: in the world as the moderator. That shouldn't be happening,
- 9:51Speaker 3: but it will. But it's tonight that's the final debate,
- 9:55Speaker 3: and then early voting starts Saturday. That's right, in three
- 9:59Speaker 3: days people begin voting in the mayoral race. Hey, don't
- 10:03Speaker 3: forget Buck and Clay. They'll be here next right after
- 10:06Speaker 3: the twelve o'clock news, with a great show on seven
- 10:08Speaker 3: ten wor
