- 1:18Speaker 7: I don't know, just because you don't have to go
- 1:21Speaker 7: cans if you don't want to, I'm going.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Can and then I'm gonna take mine off. But yeah, yeah,
- 1:31Speaker 4: let's jump in. Let's jump in.
- 1:32Speaker 8: So I seen y' all on Busting with the Boys,
- 1:34Speaker 8: and it's still I want to use this clip. I
- 1:36Speaker 8: just need to figure out over here who I need
- 1:38Speaker 8: to get it cleared with, because I got a song.
- 1:40Speaker 8: I want to put it on the front of probably
- 1:42Speaker 8: no One, no, somebody cleared, I'm sure. But the best
- 1:44Speaker 8: thing was you asked him. You said, uh, you ain't
- 1:47Speaker 8: met Jelly Roll yet.
- 1:48Speaker 6: He said no.
- 1:49Speaker 8: You said you're so skinny and white, Jelly Roll might
- 1:51Speaker 8: snort you. I'm going I want to use that clip
- 1:56Speaker 8: so bad on my next album.
- 1:58Speaker 6: The perfect song for that clip to start my next album.
- 2:01Speaker 4: So check this out.
- 2:02Speaker 1: This is how I was first introduced to you, So
- 2:04Speaker 1: maybe this will help some of our podcast listeners. I
- 2:06Speaker 1: was down in Nashville shooting a show called Neighborhood Eats
- 2:10Speaker 1: where we popped around two different places and we ate
- 2:13Speaker 1: hot chicken all over the place. And the first night
- 2:15Speaker 1: we went out and we were checking out some live
- 2:17Speaker 1: music and there's a fucking buzz. Dude, there's a palpable buzz.
- 2:20Speaker 1: We're on the second level of this outdoor deck and
- 2:22Speaker 1: it's a lot of industry type people. They're like, this
- 2:24Speaker 1: dude just got signed, Like this dude's the next dude,
- 2:27Speaker 1: Like watch this dude. Make sure you're by the balcony
- 2:29Speaker 1: for this dude jelly roll. He's about to be up.
- 2:31Speaker 4: This dude jelly roll. And this dude.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Comes on stage and he's like, I woke up this
- 2:36Speaker 1: morning still had cocaine in my nose. I'd never heard
- 2:42Speaker 1: any fucking and I don't know if you want to
- 2:44Speaker 1: call it country rock pop, I don't know what, or
- 2:47Speaker 1: hip hop, trap, whatever you want to call it. I
- 2:49Speaker 1: never heard any music that sounded just like that. And
- 2:52Speaker 1: immediately you had the fucking hook in me. And later
- 2:56Speaker 1: on that weekend, you know, we hung out the entire weekend.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Later on that weekend you came and shot some of
- 3:01Speaker 1: neighborhoodies with us. But it just like indoctrinated me right away,
- 3:06Speaker 1: being like this dude is it and everybody else had
- 3:09Speaker 1: that cachet about you, but then you immediately lived up
- 3:12Speaker 1: to it with like the first fucking line, so it's like, hey,
- 3:15Speaker 1: they get the ad lib.
- 3:15Speaker 6: Bro. That shit was awesome, dog. That was whiskey Jam too.
- 3:18Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 8: So you gotta know, whiskey Jam is like a real
- 3:21Speaker 8: big thing in our city. It's like always been a
- 3:23Speaker 8: pulse of the community of what's hot. And it's early
- 3:26Speaker 8: in the week so all the tour dudes are just
- 3:28Speaker 8: coming off the road from the weekend Warriors shit, so
- 3:31Speaker 8: everybody's there. It's like the it's like the around town
- 3:33Speaker 8: like cool kid, yeah shit, you know what I mean.
- 3:36Speaker 8: And when you get to do the outdoor thing, it's
- 3:37Speaker 8: a big deal because you say, this night we did
- 3:39Speaker 8: the outdoor and then we went out party that night too.
- 3:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I don't know what to say about the party.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And because you I had a couple of my camera guys,
- 3:47Speaker 1: like my producers, and we went out somewhere on like
- 3:52Speaker 1: on Broadway just uh. And first off, you hopped on
- 3:55Speaker 1: stage in the middle of the show and just did
- 3:57Speaker 1: Tennessee whiskey bro just had a fucking stable tank rush
- 4:00Speaker 1: it and the.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Back and just grab one of my producers and we
- 4:04Speaker 4: can cut this if we have to.
- 4:05Speaker 6: No, no, they know what's.
- 4:10Speaker 1: He grabbed one of my producers and they just went
- 4:12Speaker 1: into the bathroom and he has some big ass, like
- 4:15Speaker 1: hocky looking Samoan bodyguards. These dudes just stood in front
- 4:19Speaker 1: of the door and him and the producers just, uh,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know, got right.
- 4:23Speaker 4: We went for the right.
- 4:26Speaker 6: You know what I call that? Back in my heyday,
- 4:28Speaker 6: we called that the cocaine.
- 4:29Speaker 8: Parade because what would happen is you would see a
- 4:32Speaker 8: group of guys leave the bar and head to the
- 4:33Speaker 8: bathroom together like a bunch of.
- 4:35Speaker 6: Bitches and be fucking like six seven of them in
- 4:40Speaker 6: a row. The cocaine parade. It Now, I'm like, I
- 4:43Speaker 6: know what, I'll just fall Yeah, Yo, somebody's got something
- 4:49Speaker 6: going on with these other six dudes. Trust what's happening.
- 4:53Speaker 1: It was just such a to me and iconic Nashville
- 4:58Speaker 1: like type of weekend or whatever, and you were kind
- 4:59Speaker 1: of our guide for it. And so when I saw
- 5:01Speaker 1: you on the list, I was like, bro, can we
- 5:03Speaker 1: please get Jelly rolling here?
- 5:04Speaker 4: I know he's a good time.
- 5:05Speaker 8: God Thank you too, Bubba, because I I man I've
- 5:08Speaker 8: been on the media tour for the album, and besides Rogan,
- 5:12Speaker 8: I don't want to say I haven't got to do.
- 5:14Speaker 6: I've had to do stuff I can't cuss that.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 7: Yeah, So it's been really.
- 5:18Speaker 8: Cool to get that, you know, cool, which is really
- 5:21Speaker 8: good stuff to do. But it's stuff where you gotta
- 5:23Speaker 8: really sit there and think about what the fuck you're talking.
- 5:25Speaker 6: But there's no.
- 5:28Speaker 8: Need to tell that story on Good Morning America tomorrow.
- 5:31Speaker 8: You know what I mean, I'm doing it tomorrow, Michael
- 5:35Speaker 8: straight hands, not looking at me and going, hey man,
- 5:38Speaker 8: you know, tell us about your favorite drunken night.
- 5:41Speaker 6: Was wrong believe we were hitting gainor Tails and the
- 5:45Speaker 6: Mountain Faerry.
- 5:46Speaker 8: The mountain if I call the mountain fairy when that
- 5:48Speaker 8: back when I was in my heyday, the mountain fairy
- 5:50Speaker 8: was the guy who just pulled little mountains of coke
- 5:52Speaker 8: off of somebody else's card.
- 5:55Speaker 6: Mountain Fairy, he's here for us tonight.
- 5:57Speaker 4: We're all gonna get avalanche in.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It's funny as hell, but everybody has such And what
- 6:02Speaker 1: struck me about it was that you were you were
- 6:04Speaker 1: just like grabbing up the producers and like the cameramen
- 6:07Speaker 1: and just like hey, like come with me. Like it
- 6:09Speaker 1: wasn't like like you're like only talking to the star
- 6:12Speaker 1: of the show.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I feel like you talked to everybody.
- 6:13Speaker 8: Yeah for sure, man, I'm just fucking dude. I'm so
- 6:15Speaker 8: glad to be here, man, you know what I mean.
- 6:17Speaker 8: It's like just in like this place in my life,
- 6:21Speaker 8: like the fact that I'm back hanging out, getting to
- 6:23Speaker 8: see you and getting to meet my little friend here,
- 6:25Speaker 8: who I think is hilarious, and you know what I mean,
- 6:27Speaker 8: and getting to do this all in New York City.
- 6:29Speaker 8: I just to know that I'm waking up and doing
- 6:31Speaker 8: Good Morning America tomorrow, you know what I mean. I
- 6:33Speaker 8: just fucking wear am out of my life right, It's unreal.
- 6:35Speaker 8: I was on Rogan three weeks ago. Yeah, I just
- 6:37Speaker 8: won three Country Music Television Awards. I want Billboard the
- 6:40Speaker 8: cover of Billboard today. Fuck Billboard's covered.
- 6:43Speaker 6: They didn't cover.
- 6:44Speaker 8: They call it cover profiles now because they don't. They're
- 6:46Speaker 8: getting away from the magazine stigma. Yeah, but where I'm
- 6:49Speaker 8: you know, my culture, I'm on the cover of magazine.
- 6:51Speaker 6: Fuck you know what I'm saying. It's like they did
- 6:52Speaker 6: a cover profile. It's like, what the fuck is happening
- 6:55Speaker 6: right now.
- 6:55Speaker 1: It is. It's all ever since we like hung out,
- 6:57Speaker 1: like I just have senior assent so far, can steady
- 7:00Speaker 1: and so consistent.
- 7:01Speaker 7: He told me about you, like after Neighborhood Eats, you
- 7:05Speaker 7: told me about you, told me to tell me about you.
- 7:07Speaker 7: And then I went back to Nashville a couple of
- 7:09Speaker 7: months ago. We did Zanis Comedy Club, and everyone talks
- 7:13Speaker 7: about you. All they do is talk about you.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Well, in my in their defense, I live there. I
- 7:18Speaker 6: have a residency there.
- 7:19Speaker 7: Yeah, I got your album on the wall.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm in town drunk there. Yeah, it's my favorite bar.
- 7:26Speaker 7: I'm the best place ever.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Dude.
- 7:28Speaker 8: It's like somebody has phones. People say wild ship, and
- 7:33Speaker 8: it's you can get blackout drunk. It's the It's a
- 7:36Speaker 8: it's an artist's dream. I can't believe I'm the only
- 7:38Speaker 8: artist to find solace in a comedy club. All cameras
- 7:41Speaker 8: are taken. There's no way I'm gonna say the most
- 7:43Speaker 8: offensive ship. The chance I'm not getting canceled night, somebody's
- 7:47Speaker 8: on stage working at it, you know what I mean.
- 7:49Speaker 8: It's like, fuck, you know, it's like this is great.
- 7:51Speaker 8: I get blackout drunk. Nobody judges.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Me stumbled in my car. They'll load me up, you know.
- 7:58Speaker 7: And they had enough beer in that green room to
- 8:00Speaker 7: kill everyone in there. Oh, the only greedom I've ever
- 8:03Speaker 7: been in where it's just fucking stocked with beer.
- 8:05Speaker 8: You know what I love about what Dorfmann does there.
- 8:07Speaker 8: And I don't know if every comedy club like this
- 8:09Speaker 8: Joe's was when we went there. Have you been to
- 8:10Speaker 8: the Comedy Mothership yet? No coolest club on earth?
- 8:13Speaker 2: Yes?
- 8:15Speaker 8: You know, it's everything you imagine how cool you want
- 8:17Speaker 8: it to be, and it's even cooler.
- 8:19Speaker 6: Yeah. You know.
- 8:20Speaker 7: Michael Longfellow, he's on SNL.
- 8:24Speaker 6: Dude.
- 8:24Speaker 7: He uh. We were doing Moontower Comedy Fest in Austin
- 8:29Speaker 7: and he was like everyone says like the Mothership. He's like,
- 8:31Speaker 7: you can't get canceled there, and he was like, I'm
- 8:34Speaker 7: sure I could find a way. It's like, I gotta
- 8:37Speaker 7: be able to There's gotta be some way to get
- 8:39Speaker 7: canceled there.
- 8:40Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 8:42Speaker 8: It is lawless comedy. Yeah, it is great. They take
- 8:45Speaker 8: the phone for every show and it is all but
- 8:48Speaker 8: just the way it's set up to like the way
- 8:51Speaker 8: Joe had that place set up, and there's like a
- 8:53Speaker 8: speakeasy bar named after Mitzi downstairs.
- 8:56Speaker 6: Yeah, it's just everything about that place is chef's.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That's that's that's cool that you're just like in the
- 9:02Speaker 1: comedy world like that, though, what what do you think
- 9:04Speaker 1: draws you to that like side of things?
- 9:07Speaker 6: I think it's, you know, humors. I think humor and
- 9:10Speaker 6: music are the best medicines for the soul.
- 9:13Speaker 8: And I've always said I joke a lot and a
- 9:15Speaker 8: lot of times I get taken out of context, but
- 9:17Speaker 8: in all seriousness, I do think that that humor and
- 9:20Speaker 8: music are the medicine of the soul.
- 9:22Speaker 6: And I think that also.
- 9:25Speaker 8: I got into comedy because I don't like to listen
- 9:27Speaker 8: to current music as much because I don't want to
- 9:29Speaker 8: be influenced. Yeah, I know, I know you've battled your
- 9:32Speaker 8: whole life, Like did you ever struggle with that? Like
- 9:34Speaker 8: you couldn't watch so many battles because somebody would have
- 9:37Speaker 8: such a cool style you by default. I'll never forget
- 9:40Speaker 8: the day it happened. I was such a Drake fan
- 9:42Speaker 8: that I was in the studio one time early in
- 9:44Speaker 8: my career and I said some some some some some
- 9:46Speaker 8: some utter something something something some something something.
- 9:49Speaker 6: Never and I was like, I gotta quit listening to Drake.
- 9:53Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying.
- 9:55Speaker 8: It's like yeah, it's like I'm fucking so like I
- 9:57Speaker 8: still listen to Drake, but not during an album cycle. Yes,
- 10:00Speaker 8: so it's all podcasts and comedies, which is why I
- 10:02Speaker 8: walked right are. I'm like, I know a little sasquatch,
- 10:03Speaker 8: I know what the is going on.
- 10:06Speaker 1: You're the man, I say, he's like the man, Bro.
- 10:09Speaker 8: He's you want to do son of a Boy Dad?
- 10:12Speaker 8: I was like, it's my guy. Wrong, I'm fucking in
- 10:13Speaker 8: for sure.
- 10:14Speaker 7: What kind of music do you listen to if you
- 10:16Speaker 7: don't listen to current stuff?
- 10:17Speaker 8: Like seventies singer songwriter Ship Yeah? Yeah, Like we talked
- 10:21Speaker 8: about Croachy a lot on the.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Joe Joe podcast, but.
- 10:24Speaker 7: I love Croachy.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Yeah, A huge Croachy fan.
- 10:27Speaker 8: But like even like Dylan, like early Dylan, like even Newport.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I know you've been studying sas Bro. You're a c
- 10:34Speaker 1: I a operator, you have the background file.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Love.
- 10:39Speaker 6: I love every era of Dylan.
- 10:40Speaker 7: You you ever listened to the bootleg stuff?
- 10:42Speaker 6: I didn't. I know, I'm not familiar.
- 10:45Speaker 7: Put him on bootleg stuff Like I'll.
- 10:47Speaker 6: Show you ye clue how much I love getting turned
- 10:52Speaker 6: on the new music.
- 10:53Speaker 7: So this album specifically is one of my favorite Bob
- 10:58Speaker 7: Doyling let me find this one because of that stuff. Well,
- 11:03Speaker 7: this because it has like the outtake stuff.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Like this.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Where are You Today?
- 11:11Speaker 6: Rolling on God? That's dope. I know it is so dim. Yeah,
- 11:16Speaker 6: that is such like early demo days of the record.
- 11:19Speaker 7: So this is nineteen this is nineteen sixty five to
- 11:21Speaker 7: nineteen sixty six. This whole album. Oh yeah, it's just
- 11:24Speaker 7: like it's all of his famous songs, but it's like
- 11:26Speaker 7: live recordings of that. It's fucking amazing.
- 11:29Speaker 6: I'll check it out.
- 11:31Speaker 7: That's like the best album.
- 11:32Speaker 6: You know.
- 11:32Speaker 8: We were talking about Bob the other day too. I
- 11:34Speaker 8: loved him through ever, Like I've seen Bob evolve so much.
- 11:37Speaker 8: The Face Paint.
- 11:38Speaker 7: Era, yeah, Face it was a lot. It was the
- 11:41Speaker 7: electric one.
- 11:42Speaker 8: Yeah, when they did the big tour and it was
- 11:43Speaker 8: like they did this underplay of theaters and like everybody came,
- 11:47Speaker 8: like the streets were just because it back when you
- 11:48Speaker 8: just showed up try to get a ticket.
- 11:49Speaker 6: Yeah, it was full of people. It was gota watch.
- 11:52Speaker 6: But the review fuck just kind of pull stuff up.
- 11:57Speaker 7: Look, the tour was the White Face.
- 12:00Speaker 8: Yeah, it's like there's something him. I wentn't hide and remember.
- 12:03Speaker 7: It because that was after the Basement tapes, right after
- 12:06Speaker 7: he got in the motorcycle accident.
- 12:08Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 12:09Speaker 8: And they Thunder review, So you gotta check that out
- 12:12Speaker 8: to watch the documentary.
- 12:13Speaker 6: It's fire. But he got Bob Dealing with the sunglasses.
- 12:16Speaker 8: I love when he was just like, yo, fuck you,
- 12:17Speaker 8: I'm putting on sunglasses and plugging up my guitar and
- 12:20Speaker 8: my dig salt. Like that's literally how he did it,
- 12:24Speaker 8: in a real Bob dealing way, but literally.
- 12:25Speaker 7: Like everybody he did that, he did that folk.
- 12:29Speaker 8: He went back to the Newport Music the Newport Folk
- 12:31Speaker 8: Festival or whatever they call it, plugged the guitar and
- 12:35Speaker 8: he said fuck you.
- 12:37Speaker 7: And then some other some other folk musician I forget
- 12:40Speaker 7: who it was, came backstage and he was like he
- 12:42Speaker 7: had like an axe and he was like, I'm gonna
- 12:44Speaker 7: fucking cut the cord of his of his electric guitar.
- 12:47Speaker 7: They were they wrote letters to him.
- 12:48Speaker 8: They were got to realize he was the there's a
- 12:50Speaker 8: whole doc about all this. He was the king of
- 12:53Speaker 8: folk music, like made the genre what it was. And
- 12:56Speaker 8: then was like yeah, I'm just and true.
- 12:58Speaker 6: Bob Dylan didn't explain him because he's kind of counter
- 13:00Speaker 6: was just like yeah, he was just like yeah, no,
- 13:02Speaker 6: just you know, fuck you.
- 13:03Speaker 8: I'm writing with an electric and they were like huh
- 13:06Speaker 8: And he showed up plugged the guitar album. It's like,
- 13:08Speaker 8: fucking reminded me that Rick and Morty's scene when he's like,
- 13:10Speaker 8: your boos mean nothing, I've seen what makes you cheer?
- 13:13Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the such a good line, dude.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So when you look at your own music, bro, how
- 13:21Speaker 1: are you classifying? You're fucking because you're winning country music ship.
- 13:24Speaker 1: But it's like I could tell you have like a
- 13:26Speaker 1: lot of hip hop like background and ship like that.
- 13:29Speaker 4: What's your like?
- 13:30Speaker 1: Obviously you don't want to put yourself in a box,
- 13:32Speaker 1: but like what are what are the like uh genres
- 13:36Speaker 1: you find yourself in.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 13:38Speaker 8: So this album that I'm here, that I'm here beating
- 13:41Speaker 8: the drum about is my country debut record. It's my
- 13:45Speaker 8: first country record, but it's really got a it's really
- 13:47Speaker 8: got a rock edge to it, some hip hop and
- 13:48Speaker 8: a lot of eight o eight still in it, snares traps.
- 13:52Speaker 1: So when you go into studio, is it like Are
- 13:54Speaker 1: you like, I have this idea that I'm going to
- 13:56Speaker 1: put down and there's no music behind it, Or are
- 13:58Speaker 1: you like, I'm going to find a beat and I'm
- 14:00Speaker 1: gonna try and put something over it, or he like,
- 14:02Speaker 1: play a guitar riff.
- 14:04Speaker 8: I'm starting from the guitar for mostly everything now, and
- 14:07Speaker 8: then we're just like letting the production fall how the
- 14:09Speaker 8: song feels, and then we'll let every Then we'll just
- 14:12Speaker 8: let everybody put the genres and boxes and they put
- 14:14Speaker 8: that ship in that I hate. I think that sh
- 14:16Speaker 8: it's it's so gone anyways.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Yeah, like it.
- 14:20Speaker 8: It's like really really close to being in the era
- 14:23Speaker 8: of being just mood driven playlist. Yeah, mood driven music
- 14:26Speaker 8: where it's like, you know, I think we're gonna be
- 14:29Speaker 8: there in the next five to ten years, I hope.
- 14:31Speaker 6: But to me, dude, it's like I just love music.
- 14:35Speaker 8: Yeah, Like fucking I could just sit here and we
- 14:38Speaker 8: could talk about nothing, Like he just turned me onto
- 14:40Speaker 8: something like I'll sit here for another three hours and
- 14:42Speaker 8: just be like, what.
- 14:43Speaker 6: Do you got tell me something? You think? I don't
- 14:45Speaker 6: know you know what I'm saying.
- 14:45Speaker 4: I want to know, you know.
- 14:46Speaker 6: I want to take notes to be like turn me
- 14:48Speaker 6: on this because there's so much good, so good to
- 14:50Speaker 6: find new music, find finding a new podcast when you
- 14:55Speaker 6: find like I found one.
- 14:56Speaker 8: Recently, I wish I remember the name of it. I
- 14:57Speaker 8: plug him, but I sucked fucking don But it was
- 15:01Speaker 8: like a fucking uh. It was like we caught it
- 15:04Speaker 8: on the road the other day. It was like one
- 15:05Speaker 8: of them true crime stories, but it was like two
- 15:07Speaker 8: comedy dudes doing yeah, yeah, and they're like.
- 15:09Speaker 7: Ship, was it a small town murder?
- 15:11Speaker 2: It?
- 15:11Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 15:11Speaker 4: Small time.
- 15:12Speaker 7: I know, I'm late to the party, dude. That you
- 15:14Speaker 7: know what, You got to listen to the You got
- 15:16Speaker 7: to listen to their old episodes because they're they're long now, right,
- 15:18Speaker 7: they're like three hours they're there. I've listened to their
- 15:22Speaker 7: new ones. It's good. It's a great podcast. I don't
- 15:24Speaker 7: know anything bad to say it, but I was gonna
- 15:26Speaker 7: say it. Sometimes they do that.
- 15:27Speaker 4: You got to listen to their old ship sometimes they
- 15:29Speaker 4: sometimes they do the.
- 15:30Speaker 7: Intros to the stories for too long, like they describe
- 15:33Speaker 7: the town for too long. But dude, it's a good
- 15:35Speaker 7: ass podcast is fucking fun.
- 15:37Speaker 6: Just found them and it's like a new level of
- 15:39Speaker 6: fucking Donkey Kong.
- 15:41Speaker 7: Yeah, they're great.
- 15:42Speaker 4: You guys have just been doing this all the time,
- 15:44Speaker 4: like I've been missing this.
- 15:45Speaker 8: You got three hundred and that's the coolest ship. Yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 8: because nothing sucks more than when you find something new
- 15:49Speaker 8: and cool and they don't have anything.
- 15:51Speaker 6: Yeah, you're like, this blows. I gotta wait for you
- 15:53Speaker 6: to figure it out.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Dude, there's some Let me enjoy you, Let me enjoy your.
- 15:59Speaker 7: There's a one dude who I who I used to
- 16:01Speaker 7: listen to all the time. Musician may find him and
- 16:05Speaker 7: he has like five like phenomenal songs. Oh, Cosmo Pike
- 16:11Speaker 7: you know him, dude.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Bro, that's literally thirty second Yeah, just thirty.
- 16:19Speaker 6: It's like the Heat rule, like the rules from the
- 16:21Speaker 6: movie Heat. All right, m it's a jazz group.
- 16:38Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, that's a I mean, it's hard to explain,
- 16:41Speaker 7: but it's like you do that. That whole album is phenomenal.
- 16:44Speaker 7: But he hasn't put out fucking music. That's diddy.
- 16:47Speaker 6: I know.
- 16:47Speaker 7: I guess he put up music this year, all right,
- 16:48Speaker 7: fucked up. He didn't put out music from until this year,
- 16:51Speaker 7: from until from the last time he put up music
- 16:53Speaker 7: was twenty seventeen, and that in his first album was
- 16:55Speaker 7: twenty sixteen, so we only had put out with five songs.
- 16:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:58Speaker 8: Yeah, you can't tour with that now. That's why Morgan
- 17:02Speaker 8: Walling's a genius. He's dropping thirty six songs a year
- 17:05Speaker 8: on these motherfuckers.
- 17:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 8: People are like, man, I can't get enough Morgan wall
- 17:09Speaker 8: And I was like, I know he keeps giving.
- 17:10Speaker 4: It to Yeah, you do you tell that pressure, You're like, damn,
- 17:14Speaker 4: I gotta put out shit. I gotta put out shit,
- 17:16Speaker 4: I gotta put out ship.
- 17:16Speaker 8: You know, for the first time ever own, I don't.
- 17:18Speaker 8: I felt like that my whole hip hop career. Yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 8: but since I kind of got into this space now,
- 17:22Speaker 8: it's like, you know, I'm just enjoying the slow ride.
- 17:26Speaker 1: You feel like there's like a little bit more honesty
- 17:29Speaker 1: that country affords you. I know, we're not trying to
- 17:31Speaker 1: get too much into genres, but it seems like there's
- 17:33Speaker 1: been a little bit of a pivot.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure.
- 17:35Speaker 8: For me, it's like, I think country is in probably
- 17:38Speaker 8: the coolest space it's.
- 17:39Speaker 6: Ever been right now.
- 17:39Speaker 8: Yeah, Like people that don't like country music love country
- 17:43Speaker 8: music right now.
- 17:45Speaker 6: Don't even know. Yeah, yeah, you know, it's like the
- 17:47Speaker 6: really it's the coolest thing.
- 17:49Speaker 8: So it's yeah, yeah, it's like, don't even know. It's like,
- 17:51Speaker 8: it's fucking the coolest. We're in the coolest era of
- 17:54Speaker 8: that ever. And I think it's because we're getting back
- 17:56Speaker 8: to the songwriter artist portion of that shit. We lost
- 18:01Speaker 8: that shift for so long and Country I called it
- 18:03Speaker 8: the build a Bear moment where they would like they'd
- 18:05Speaker 8: fucking find a dude that could sing on the street
- 18:08Speaker 8: and be like, come in here where this sing this song,
- 18:11Speaker 8: and they'd give him the song and the producer and
- 18:13Speaker 8: they created X.
- 18:15Speaker 6: You know what I mean.
- 18:16Speaker 8: X wasn't being creating them, wasn't creating acts.
- 18:20Speaker 1: And you can almost see that. You go to Broadway
- 18:22Speaker 1: during the daytime and there's like some super handsome dude
- 18:25Speaker 1: that's fucking jacked this ship with a beautiful voice, that
- 18:28Speaker 1: can play guitar and he's just like belting some ship
- 18:30Speaker 1: out on the street and like they're passing around a
- 18:32Speaker 1: bucket and that's how he's getting paid. It's like there's
- 18:34Speaker 1: so much everywhere.
- 18:36Speaker 8: Yeah, three stories of every bar in the city and
- 18:39Speaker 8: somebody singing and somebody's out front of that same there's
- 18:42Speaker 8: just playing it with a bucket.
- 18:43Speaker 7: It's fucking you ever do the you ever you ever
- 18:46Speaker 7: run the the morning shift at a hotel lobby in Nashville,
- 18:50Speaker 7: because that when I was pulling there, like seven am
- 18:53Speaker 7: at the airport, they got it dude blaring country and
- 18:56Speaker 7: I was like, dude, this is it's too much, It's
- 18:58Speaker 7: too much.
- 18:58Speaker 6: What was you do was You're just waking up, are going.
- 19:04Speaker 7: Lobby is empty and there's just a dude in there
- 19:06Speaker 7: just blaring country music playing live.
- 19:08Speaker 4: You're trying to get a game.
- 19:09Speaker 8: You gotta realize what you see at seven in the
- 19:11Speaker 8: morning and what I used to see it seven in
- 19:13Speaker 8: the morning. I feel like we were already in two
- 19:16Speaker 8: different minds, Like I might have been the dude. You
- 19:21Speaker 8: know how many times in my life I've went home
- 19:23Speaker 8: and seen the joggers. Nothing makes you feel dirtier when
- 19:29Speaker 8: you're going to Yeah, there's fucking birds chirping and fucking
- 19:33Speaker 8: motherfucker's jogging and walkings and you're like, fuck yeah, fucking.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Up making you feel really bad. Dude.
- 19:42Speaker 7: We were we when we were in Nashville, me and
- 19:44Speaker 7: him right in this Connor mook and uh.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Dude, we.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And uh both stand ups so they do stand up
- 19:55Speaker 1: on the road together.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Dope.
- 19:57Speaker 7: And dude, I have the future he hosts, Oh dope
- 20:00Speaker 7: host feature. Yeah, and dude, I've never seen We saw
- 20:04Speaker 7: two people specifically that I'm thinking of, and I've never
- 20:07Speaker 7: seen people more drunk in my entire life than those people.
- 20:12Speaker 6: I so much pride by the way. That means so
- 20:15Speaker 6: much that that happened. It happened in Nashville, right, Oh, yeah,
- 20:17Speaker 6: it means a lot to me. Yea, even in my
- 20:19Speaker 6: reformed ways. I'm really excited to know that our town
- 20:22Speaker 6: is just still full of douchebaggery.
- 20:27Speaker 1: And it's happening on Broadway, but it's also happening in
- 20:29Speaker 1: like little tucked away weird ass places throughout that city
- 20:32Speaker 1: that people probably don't even have access to because Broadway
- 20:36Speaker 1: is in some ways like the Vegas Strip. And people
- 20:39Speaker 1: can cost Yeah, they can costplay as cowboys kind of
- 20:42Speaker 1: and have and women can go in a bachelorette party
- 20:44Speaker 1: and wear pink cowboy boots are riding in the back
- 20:46Speaker 1: of like and punk.
- 20:47Speaker 8: And white cowboy boots or the tail tail that you're
- 20:49Speaker 8: from out of town.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's that's part of the experience. No shame
- 20:52Speaker 1: being from out of town, because you're going there to
- 20:54Speaker 1: have a good time.
- 20:55Speaker 8: But I love people that come in and brace culture
- 20:57Speaker 8: because I'm the same fat dude walking down the street
- 20:58Speaker 8: in New Order like throw me.
- 21:00Speaker 6: Beads, you know what I mean.
- 21:02Speaker 8: It's like, yeah, it's like, fuck, I'm embrasing. I'm embrasing
- 21:04Speaker 8: the culture totally.
- 21:05Speaker 6: There's not going to go out here and get.
- 21:06Speaker 8: Some street meat right now. Yeah, I'm gonna try to
- 21:09Speaker 8: get dogs sick eating out of a truck tonight.
- 21:11Speaker 1: But there's weird shit going on in Nashville too, though,
- 21:13Speaker 1: which I'm sure you know about, bro, I'm sure you
- 21:15Speaker 1: know about all the fucking strange ass warehouse parties and
- 21:19Speaker 1: offbeat counterculture ship that's going on out Oh yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 6: No, it's a thriving force in the city.
- 21:24Speaker 7: So are you from Tennessee.
- 21:26Speaker 6: Yeah, that's why I'm so synonymous with the city. I think.
- 21:29Speaker 8: I don't think it's because of the music ship as
- 21:30Speaker 8: much as well. Yeah, I'm just like one of the
- 21:32Speaker 8: last locals left. It feels like kind of you know
- 21:35Speaker 8: what I mean, that makes any sense. I still walk
- 21:38Speaker 8: through back doors the bars. It's not because I'm quote
- 21:41Speaker 8: unquote a musician. It's more because it's fucking jelly, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 8: running through the back door in.
- 21:46Speaker 6: That bar since yeah, you know what I mean, you
- 21:48Speaker 6: had to knock onto the worker had to let you in. Yeah, forever.
- 21:52Speaker 1: And when we did a neighborhood eats out there, we
- 21:54Speaker 1: had like a bunch of hot chicken places that we
- 21:56Speaker 1: went to kind of ran the from Hattie Bees down
- 21:59Speaker 1: to like the low cool spots or whatever. But when
- 22:01Speaker 1: we asked you what spot could we link up with
- 22:04Speaker 1: you because it was one of the last couple that
- 22:05Speaker 1: we went to, you were super thoughtful about it, and
- 22:08Speaker 1: you were like, I want something that kind of represents
- 22:10Speaker 1: a different part inside of the city that people normally see.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And You're like, I you intentionally wanted something black owned.
- 22:18Speaker 1: You're like, what's a black owned business where we could uh,
- 22:21Speaker 1: you know, go and kind of showcase and bring like
- 22:23Speaker 1: a positive spotlight on that, which I was like, damn,
- 22:26Speaker 1: Like he really didn't have to go that deep with
- 22:28Speaker 1: it thoughtfully, Like you could have.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Just put us onto wherever. I thought. That was very
- 22:32Speaker 4: very cool side of the city that you showed us.
- 22:34Speaker 6: Dude, it was awesome too.
- 22:35Speaker 8: Big Shake still appreciates, by the way, I still go
- 22:37Speaker 8: in there and get a free shrimp burger because of
- 22:38Speaker 8: that episode.
- 22:39Speaker 6: Every time I walk in Big City's like good serious service.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 22:46Speaker 8: You want the shrimp Berger. I'll be like, yes, sir,
- 22:47Speaker 8: I'll be staying in the back of the line. It
- 22:49Speaker 8: whit me up a shrimp burger, dude. So fuck thank
- 22:51Speaker 8: you' all too. That show was smoking hot.
- 22:53Speaker 4: It was incredible, bro. But yeah, you just shown us
- 22:55Speaker 4: and they let you up. That is a like the
- 22:57Speaker 4: the hot Chicken is no joke, dude.
- 22:59Speaker 8: No, it's fucking it's our thing man, for for sure,
- 23:02Speaker 8: for sure, And for me it was like one bring
- 23:05Speaker 8: a lot in a small business too, brings light on
- 23:07Speaker 8: up a small black owned business because I think we
- 23:10Speaker 8: talked about on the show, but Nashville's hot Chicken was
- 23:12Speaker 8: like it has just been commercialized beyond recognition. Yeah, it's
- 23:17Speaker 8: like if you want real hot chicken, you gotta damn
- 23:20Speaker 8: near go somewhere you don't feel safe, you know what
- 23:22Speaker 8: I'm saying, Like for real, for real, you know what
- 23:24Speaker 8: I mean.
- 23:24Speaker 6: It's like, you know, that's.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Like how soul for you got it already sweating before you.
- 23:30Speaker 6: Gotta pull up a little tight strip mall or something.
- 23:34Speaker 6: You know, you gotta be like, yo, this ain't it.
- 23:36Speaker 6: But it's you go to stand alone place with a
- 23:38Speaker 6: line outside, you have the wrong hot chicken spot. You
- 23:40Speaker 6: need a place that you go inside. And the lines
- 23:42Speaker 6: drapped around the room three times, even.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Bolton's dude Boltons uh and we went when so we
- 23:47Speaker 1: didn't get to eat Bolts when we were there because
- 23:48Speaker 1: mister Bolton had just passed away or something like that
- 23:51Speaker 1: was super sad. But then I went back because I
- 23:52Speaker 1: was like, I need to go here because it just
- 23:54Speaker 1: feels like it should feel and I think I had
- 23:56Speaker 1: to like throw it out three quarters of the way in.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Dude, I was just like pouring wet, like I was
- 24:00Speaker 4: about to take my shirt off.
- 24:02Speaker 6: That's the local ship. Princess Bolton's big shakes four hundred degrees.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Helen's Yeah, yeah, they're doing good enough where it's like
- 24:13Speaker 4: they really don't.
- 24:13Speaker 6: Don't need my coast. Yeah for sure. Ye Helen's hot
- 24:17Speaker 6: Chicken could use a little jelly love. Yeh.
- 24:19Speaker 8: Haddie Bees will probably still clip this you too. I
- 24:23Speaker 8: see me getting tweeted. I'mlad I'm not picking on Wendy's.

- 24:39Speaker 7: Destroyed Wendy's the chain.
- 24:43Speaker 4: He's even deeper on Twitter list.

- 24:54Speaker 8: can't believe they haven't got suit or in trouble for

- 28:25Speaker 6: I got Yeah. The good news is I spent a
- 28:29Speaker 6: lot of time writing, so I feel all right, it'll

- 28:47Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I'm singing.
- 28:47Speaker 8: I think we're gonna chat and then we're gonna sing,
- 28:50Speaker 8: and then I'm doing Good Morning three and I'm doing Nightline.
- 28:54Speaker 6: Damn.
- 28:54Speaker 4: What the fuck do you know?
- 28:55Speaker 6: ABC just put the documentary out on them. Are you
- 28:57Speaker 6: familiar with this on Hulu? You got Old Dock on
- 29:00Speaker 6: you full doc ABC.
- 29:01Speaker 8: It's the number one trending thing on Hulu right now.
- 29:03Speaker 8: I'm really proud of this. It's big, so my whole
- 29:05Speaker 8: life story ron for real. It's an hour and a
- 29:07Speaker 8: half's watch but the next time you fly for one
- 29:10Speaker 8: of your weekends.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, what's called, bro?
- 29:15Speaker 1: I mean like the videos of that, because save Me
- 29:18Speaker 1: is a song of yours, bro, And the videos of that,
- 29:21Speaker 1: like there's like fucking viral clips of like fucking you know,
- 29:26Speaker 1: seven eight year old singing that song to you, like
- 29:29Speaker 1: breaking down, crying, like the most emotional. So we get
- 29:32Speaker 1: to see like the party side of you. We get
- 29:34Speaker 1: to see the comedic side of you. But there is, like,
- 29:36Speaker 1: for sure, this like very human side of you. And
- 29:39Speaker 1: I think that's got to be the number one reason
- 29:41Speaker 1: why your music resonates, because like it will be touching
- 29:44Speaker 1: people to like a very personal level.
- 29:47Speaker 4: It's fucking dope to see that shit. It has to
- 29:49Speaker 4: be dope to feel it.
- 29:50Speaker 6: Well, it's say thank you for real. It's real music
- 29:54Speaker 6: for real people with real problems. It's just what I like.
- 29:57Speaker 6: It's kind of the Willy Nelson things y'all ever get
- 29:59Speaker 6: in a WILLI Yeah, So I'm sorry to me to
- 30:02Speaker 6: overlook you wrong, but I just my spirit said, you
- 30:04Speaker 6: don't know much about Willy.
- 30:05Speaker 8: So Willie Nelson is like he's like the most famous
- 30:15Speaker 8: hippie weed smoker from the outlaw country movement, long bread.
- 30:21Speaker 8: You've seen the pictures of mean clear.
- 30:22Speaker 4: Of course, I know from his weed smoking, But you know,
- 30:27Speaker 4: you probably know.
- 30:27Speaker 7: More about Willie Nelson than me.
- 30:29Speaker 8: You know about his weed smoking, you know about like
- 30:32Speaker 8: his public image. He's real jovial, his interviews were always hilarious. Yeah,
- 30:35Speaker 8: music very sad, very sad. Blue Eyes Crying in the
- 30:39Speaker 8: Rain one of his biggest songs. My heroes have always
- 30:42Speaker 8: been cowboy, Like his ship is just like this, just
- 30:48Speaker 8: old sad country western music he made. You know, even
- 30:52Speaker 8: his up tempo ship was still roll me up and
- 30:54Speaker 8: smoked me when I died. You know, it's like he
- 30:57Speaker 8: just had these fucking wild songs. And I felt like
- 31:00Speaker 8: that was kind of something I always modeled after. Like
- 31:02Speaker 8: I love that his personality was so bubbly, but his
- 31:05Speaker 8: music was so haunting, And I feel like that's kind
- 31:07Speaker 8: of a part of my thing, you know, is that
- 31:10Speaker 8: my wife always says music's where my demons are exercised.
- 31:13Speaker 8: Like if I'm in a really tense place in my
- 31:15Speaker 8: wife life, my wife's not like, hey you should go
- 31:18Speaker 8: see a therapist, or hey you should take a day
- 31:20Speaker 8: to your self care. She's like you need to go
- 31:22Speaker 8: write a song. She's like, you've been doing too much media.
- 31:25Speaker 8: You've been doing too much. You've been you ain't been,
- 31:27Speaker 8: you haven't been doing that thing you do. Just go
- 31:29Speaker 8: because I write a lot of songs for me, like
- 31:31Speaker 8: real selfish shit, pick up a guitar and like just
- 31:34Speaker 8: write me something so shit, I'd never play for nobody,
- 31:37Speaker 8: you know what I mean.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Like I'm a real weird though, Like that's awesome when
- 31:40Speaker 1: you do something like that. Is it like first line
- 31:43Speaker 1: is exactly how you feel in that moment? Or are
- 31:46Speaker 1: you looking for like an analogy or are you looking
- 31:48Speaker 1: for like a bar or something, or is it just
- 31:50Speaker 1: like uh, spilling what you're feeling immediately.
- 31:54Speaker 6: It's more like looking for the analogy because that's my
- 31:58Speaker 6: way of working around the album as well. Yeah, you
- 32:02Speaker 6: know what I mean. It's like where is the where is.
- 32:04Speaker 8: The catching this? Like how do I make this make sense?
- 32:07Speaker 8: Because it don't make sense that I feel this way?
- 32:09Speaker 8: So how can I make this make sense? And that
- 32:11Speaker 8: becomes like a puzzle piece. And for me, it's like
- 32:14Speaker 8: in the in the world of battle rapping, I did
- 32:17Speaker 8: my fair share out of my younger years. Was it's
- 32:20Speaker 8: always the good trick to battling, and you know this
- 32:22Speaker 8: if you're really freestyling, like you know, y'all are y'all's
- 32:25Speaker 8: era has been way more pin driven, but in our era,
- 32:27Speaker 8: we didn't know that was a thing for battling, Like, yeah, battle.
- 32:36Speaker 6: Right now.
- 32:37Speaker 8: But the trick to freestyle battling for me was as
- 32:40Speaker 8: long as you're the two bars ahead the next line,
- 32:43Speaker 8: as long as you as long as I know what
- 32:46Speaker 8: I'm rhyming, and it's hard, and I know that's the joke.
- 32:49Speaker 8: I can almost even if I get lost in it,
- 32:51Speaker 8: I'll just keep going to that rhyme scheme or those
- 32:53Speaker 8: compound syllables until I get to what I know.
- 32:55Speaker 6: The punch line is you know what I'm saying, like,
- 32:58Speaker 6: you know, can you get that right?
- 33:00Speaker 1: It's like it's almost like speaking a different language. Like
- 33:02Speaker 1: when you're speaking a language, you have to have two
- 33:04Speaker 1: lines of thought in your head. So it's like the
- 33:05Speaker 1: things that you're saying, but also like if you're trying
- 33:08Speaker 1: to get to water bottles, like I've hit a lot
- 33:10Speaker 1: of throttles or something like that water bottle, you don't
- 33:13Speaker 1: want to get to that certain point.
- 33:14Speaker 8: Yeah, exactly, if I'm looking at you at face at
- 33:17Speaker 8: one stare and it's a big dude, And I want
- 33:19Speaker 8: to say, you look like a dumpster with a grill.
- 33:22Speaker 6: You know what I mean? All the fu fuck it's
- 33:25Speaker 6: how I feel. You know what I'm saying. Nothing isn't real,
- 33:28Speaker 6: you know.
- 33:28Speaker 4: What I mean?
- 33:28Speaker 8: All that shit will come. I just know what the
- 33:30Speaker 8: big one is and even that other shit don't make
- 33:32Speaker 8: a lot of sense. Nobody cares different. Dumpster with the
- 33:36Speaker 8: grill comes out of Yeah, we're fucking in Yeah, you know, damn,
- 33:41Speaker 8: that's so sick that you were fucking battle rapping like that.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:44Speaker 1: And the fact that you I mean, it's super technical,
- 33:46Speaker 1: but the fact that you're taking compound rhymes into fucking
- 33:49Speaker 1: like country music is like kind of a cool thing.
- 33:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:52Speaker 8: I know it sounds real simplistic. But my hip hop
- 33:55Speaker 8: buddy's called me immediately was like, oh, this is dope,
- 33:57Speaker 8: this is different.
- 33:58Speaker 6: You know. The first person that called me on it,
- 33:59Speaker 6: who's ault.
- 34:00Speaker 8: I played Schultzer record probably three four years ago and
- 34:03Speaker 8: it's one of my first singing songs, and he was like, yo,
- 34:07Speaker 8: I caught the way you were hitting it.
- 34:09Speaker 6: And I was like, damn, shalt say look at you baby,
- 34:14Speaker 6: your little thing. Can I hit my little thing too?
- 34:16Speaker 7: Or you can hit light it up?
- 34:17Speaker 4: You know what, this is your space, bro.
- 34:19Speaker 1: The fact we had the pink Whitney bottles if you
- 34:21Speaker 1: need them, Bro, we had the fucking uh.
- 34:24Speaker 7: I got to admire your fucking self control. If I
- 34:26Speaker 7: knew I was gonna be drinking at midnight, I would
- 34:28Speaker 7: have been drinking at fucking four pm for sure.
- 34:31Speaker 4: He fucked in though. Bro, this guy's a fucking ultra.
- 34:33Speaker 7: Here on the media tour right now.
- 34:35Speaker 6: I'm just this is my first media tour for sure.
- 34:37Speaker 7: How has it been.
- 34:38Speaker 6: It's been a lot of fun.
- 34:39Speaker 7: It's just you know, stressful a lot.
- 34:41Speaker 8: But I'm very grateful for every opportunity I've been given.
- 34:44Speaker 8: I want to come back and do it again for
- 34:46Speaker 8: the more loose yeah, you know what I mean. Like,
- 34:48Speaker 8: I want to come to this building to do it
- 34:50Speaker 8: all and I want to go do some of that.
- 34:51Speaker 8: I want to do flagrip, yeah. I want to do
- 34:53Speaker 8: uh Christa Stephano Ship yeah, and I want to do
- 34:57Speaker 8: I want.
- 34:57Speaker 6: To do the Homely Ship totally. It sucking. Was the
- 35:00Speaker 6: first time I've ever been to LA that I didn't
- 35:02Speaker 6: do Fighter in the Kid or nothing. With Yeah.
- 35:04Speaker 8: Yeah, normally at least get with THEO or Shab or Bert,
- 35:07Speaker 8: you know what I mean the first time, but I
- 35:08Speaker 8: was out there doing idol.
- 35:09Speaker 6: Yeah what I'm saying.
- 35:10Speaker 7: All right, So you we talked about the comedy stuff
- 35:12Speaker 7: a little bit a while ago, but you clearly are
- 35:15Speaker 7: very well connected. I mean, like just from like the
- 35:18Speaker 7: comedians that if you're sending yeah, you're very connected with comedians.
- 35:22Speaker 7: How did you get so connected with them?
- 35:24Speaker 8: Just from being a fan, going to the club, being
- 35:26Speaker 8: a fan just you know, fuck, man, I'm not I'm
- 35:29Speaker 8: I'm still from the era where I'm not embarrassed to
- 35:31Speaker 8: say I'm a fan.
- 35:31Speaker 7: Yeah, Like it was cool.
- 35:34Speaker 8: I told my publicist who y'all were. She was like, hey,
- 35:37Speaker 8: Barstools got this thing a boy dad son of a
- 35:40Speaker 8: boy dad podcast. I was like, Yo, that's my boys
- 35:42Speaker 8: as a little sasquatch wrong role as my homewaid. I
- 35:45Speaker 8: sent her a clip from the other ship, you know
- 35:46Speaker 8: what I mean. It's like, you know, like I'm not
- 35:48Speaker 8: embarrassed to say I'm a fan. Yeah, so I just
- 35:50Speaker 8: wasn't embarrassed to pop. You know how the Zany's green
- 35:52Speaker 8: room is. It's a trap for y'all. That's the only
- 35:54Speaker 8: thing I don't like about that green room for comedians
- 35:57Speaker 8: is you don't got a choice. Whoever comes to that
- 35:58Speaker 8: sad doors just busting in there and saying.
- 36:00Speaker 6: Dude, we were talking about walking on so many strangers
- 36:04Speaker 6: all the time. But that's kind of what makes it
- 36:06Speaker 6: so cool to I bet.
- 36:08Speaker 4: You appreciate the crossover.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I bet they're like, oh, like, there's musicians that are
- 36:11Speaker 1: coming to see us, Like, I bet that they can
- 36:14Speaker 1: appreciate your line of work and you being successful without
- 36:17Speaker 1: the kind of guarded competitiveness that sometimes probably comedians feel
- 36:21Speaker 1: about comedians or artists feel about other artists.
- 36:23Speaker 8: It's always flattering to at least to me when people
- 36:26Speaker 8: outside of anybody. For the record, I'm still happy when
- 36:29Speaker 8: the musicians show up too, but well, like if a
- 36:31Speaker 8: comedian shows up to my concert, or an athlete or something,
- 36:34Speaker 8: that ship sticks with you different.
- 36:37Speaker 7: Athletes, athletes. If an athlete shows up, like, yeah, I'm cool.
- 36:41Speaker 6: That it's the moment.
- 36:44Speaker 8: It's like I had some of my Fighter homies come
- 36:46Speaker 8: out to my Miami show and I just felt like
- 36:48Speaker 8: the yeah, exactly.
- 36:50Speaker 6: It's totally like.
- 36:51Speaker 7: Those guys were not losers ever.
- 36:53Speaker 8: Those guys always always were always a loser. We were
- 36:57Speaker 8: all that's how you found found the thing. I found sucked.
- 37:02Speaker 8: And it's like those dudes never sucked.
- 37:04Speaker 6: They were.
- 37:06Speaker 7: They were always like they like me.
- 37:11Speaker 6: Yeah we played tamp Well, we didn't play Tampa.
- 37:13Speaker 8: Morgan Wallen's tour was in Tampa, and I was passing
- 37:16Speaker 8: through Tampa on my way to Dallas or something, and
- 37:20Speaker 8: I was coming from South Florida and I stopped to
- 37:22Speaker 8: sing with Ernest because Ernest is opening up his tour.
- 37:24Speaker 6: Yeah, Ernest and.
- 37:27Speaker 8: About half of the Tampa Bay Lightning, which I don't
- 37:29Speaker 8: watch a lot of hockey, but I watched enough to
- 37:32Speaker 8: know who Stammers was. And you know what I mean,
- 37:34Speaker 8: I watched enough to know who the fuck was walking
- 37:35Speaker 8: up the.
- 37:36Speaker 6: Up and it was cool.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Cool bros.
- 37:38Speaker 6: Yeah, hockey bro Yeah for sure. And they look like
- 37:40Speaker 6: it too.
- 37:41Speaker 8: They walk in looked like how like I love when
- 37:42Speaker 8: a music band walks in. Yeah, it's just different. You
- 37:45Speaker 8: just feel the difference. A bunch of denim and leather.
- 37:47Speaker 7: And ship and tattoo.
- 37:49Speaker 6: Yeah's the thing. And I watched them dudes coming, I
- 37:52Speaker 6: was like, oh, this is cool. It was that was
- 37:58Speaker 6: I was happy for Morgan, and he's so big he
- 38:00Speaker 6: probably don't know they were there.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it's crazy, bro, He's massive.
- 38:05Speaker 6: Jesus, I'm just so happy for him.
- 38:07Speaker 4: He's just doing so much, full blown.
- 38:10Speaker 8: Fucking professional football style. Get so happy, I fucking could cry.
- 38:16Speaker 8: Nothing makes me happier than seeing a motherfucker just win. Yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 8: you know what I'm saying, O school win.
- 38:22Speaker 1: How do you keep that instinct though? How do you like, uh, silence,
- 38:25Speaker 1: any instinct that's like, man, fuck these dudes?
- 38:28Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 38:29Speaker 8: I was I was when I was incarcerated. I watched
- 38:32Speaker 8: people get bitter about people having release dates. Yeah, and
- 38:37Speaker 8: you know how you watch something more than I've ever
- 38:40Speaker 8: learned how I want who I wanted to be in life.
- 38:43Speaker 6: I learned who I didn't want to be. Who I
- 38:45Speaker 6: became was just a series of me watching ship. I
- 38:47Speaker 6: didn't want to be like like him. Yeah, you know
- 38:49Speaker 6: what I mean? You watch that dude, You're like, Man,
- 38:51Speaker 6: what a fucking hater dude? That dude's going home? Yeah?
- 38:54Speaker 8: Like, And of course I had a wrong mindset then,
- 38:56Speaker 8: as a little selfish, I was like, he might even
- 38:57Speaker 8: answer the phone, make a three.
- 38:59Speaker 6: Way call for us, He might send some money. This
- 39:03Speaker 6: dude's getting out, like, yo, give me your number.
- 39:06Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 39:07Speaker 8: It's like and I watched Dudes will Get Better and
- 39:09Speaker 8: I was like, I never want to be like you
- 39:10Speaker 8: and that because I went to jail the first time
- 39:12Speaker 8: when I was like fourteen, I went to juvenile.
- 39:13Speaker 6: You'd see it then, motherfuckers, what.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Are you going to release it?
- 39:16Speaker 8: If a motherfucker's mentality of somebody getting free as how
- 39:19Speaker 8: did he get out of his case?
- 39:20Speaker 6: That fucking hater if if anything, fucking no.
- 39:23Speaker 12: That was not you.
- 39:26Speaker 6: Mother fuck You're going to hell.
- 39:29Speaker 4: That's not an observation.
- 39:31Speaker 6: He's gone. That's my stupid voice. That's not my black voice.
- 39:40Speaker 6: Is totally different. I'll give you an example. No, me
- 39:45Speaker 6: off like sas fucking ship. I want to do this
- 39:52Speaker 6: for grown. I'm worried about, like I hope he's got
- 39:57Speaker 6: COVID or something and it just Ron needs me to
- 40:00Speaker 6: co hos.
- 40:02Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I'm sucking around. I'm kidding.
- 40:04Speaker 4: I love person. He's a bad person.
- 40:08Speaker 12: That bro.
- 40:08Speaker 4: We know what the time it is that you're not
- 40:11Speaker 4: gonna be better. You're happy for his success, so he's
- 40:13Speaker 4: trying to drag you down. He's trying to bring you down.
- 40:19Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 40:19Speaker 6: I looked at homies featured. Yeah, it's in the family.
- 40:24Speaker 6: Then you're fucking turned out to be.
- 40:25Speaker 13: A committed That sucks. It's terrible, but yeah, I just
- 40:31Speaker 13: never be a hater, so it's great. Yeah, exactly learned
- 40:34Speaker 13: something one time.
- 40:35Speaker 7: I'm not a hater. I love everybody. Now I am
- 40:38Speaker 7: a hater. I you got to change my ways.
- 40:39Speaker 4: No, fuck, he does. He's on his way up.
- 40:42Speaker 6: He's the first step, though you admitted. No, I have been.
- 40:45Speaker 7: I've I mean, no one knows. I've been practicing, uh,
- 40:48Speaker 7: positiveness for everything. I find a positive outcome and everything. Right,
- 40:53Speaker 7: he's trying to convince himself, No I do, I don't.
- 40:55Speaker 6: I'm not.
- 40:56Speaker 7: I'm not nearly as much as a hater as I
- 40:58Speaker 7: was like a year or two ago.
- 41:00Speaker 6: God, look at the growth day. Imagine in two years, bro,
- 41:04Speaker 6: two years from now, you're gonna cheering for people.
- 41:06Speaker 7: Yeah, it's gonna be.
- 41:09Speaker 4: Cool, dude. So what do you want for yourself?
- 41:11Speaker 6: Bro?
- 41:12Speaker 4: What's uh?
- 41:12Speaker 1: What's like the next couple of years look like for you?
- 41:16Speaker 1: Sas is gonna give up hate? What are you gonna
- 41:18Speaker 1: fucking uh? What are you gonna pick up for yourself. Bro,
- 41:20Speaker 1: what are you gonna?
- 41:20Speaker 4: What are you gonna bostom into as you go?
- 41:26Speaker 6: As the way of asking a really real question, the
- 41:28Speaker 6: most not real.
- 41:34Speaker 4: Question, I think.
- 41:36Speaker 8: I just, you know, I just want to keep making
- 41:38Speaker 8: music that helps people. Man, It's like the cool thing
- 41:42Speaker 8: now is it's just trying to get the message out there.
- 41:44Speaker 8: Like all the jokes are cool, all the antics are cool,
- 41:48Speaker 8: all that ship's cool. But what I think really matters
- 41:51Speaker 8: in my world, specifically, I boil it down, it's getting.
- 41:55Speaker 6: People to the music.
- 41:56Speaker 8: Yeah, because it might not be for you, but I
- 41:58Speaker 8: promise you it's for some and who that's for it
- 42:01Speaker 8: means a lot to them. That's one thing I love
- 42:03Speaker 8: about who I am as an artist. People aren't on
- 42:05Speaker 8: the fence with me. They either like fuck with me
- 42:08Speaker 8: or they don't.
- 42:09Speaker 6: They just go no, it's not my thing. But fuck
- 42:11Speaker 6: he's a great guy. That's cool too. I don't take
- 42:13Speaker 6: that offensive. I think that's awesome.
- 42:14Speaker 8: But I promise you somebody feels the total different way.
- 42:17Speaker 8: And even somebody in your phone might need to might need.
- 42:20Speaker 6: This music and you don't even know it.
- 42:22Speaker 8: You know what I mean, Because I think that's what
- 42:24Speaker 8: the music does when you really boil down the songs
- 42:26Speaker 8: of mine that have really connected the most. You know
- 42:28Speaker 8: what I mean, Because the ship I get is like
- 42:30Speaker 8: real ship, like they played your ship at the funeral
- 42:33Speaker 8: yesterday ship, you know what I mean, Like kind of
- 42:35Speaker 8: that ship. So I just want to keep pointing people
- 42:37Speaker 8: to the music because fuck, dude, I made it now definitely.
- 42:40Speaker 8: You know, money don't matter no more this dude. It's
- 42:45Speaker 8: like I own my masters. I stayed independent all the.
- 42:48Speaker 6: Way through it. Even when I signed the deal, I
- 42:50Speaker 6: kept the Masters, I kept the major forever. Yeah, it's like, fuck,
- 42:58Speaker 6: I can't. I couldn't. You know it would take multiple
- 43:00Speaker 6: heroin addictions and relapses to fuck this off in the
- 43:04Speaker 6: next years, you know what I'm save.
- 43:06Speaker 1: Then we put you on the conservatorship, bro. Yeah, Britney,
- 43:10Speaker 1: we'll figure it out. Figure it out, dude. Well whatever happens, Bro,
- 43:14Speaker 1: we're gonna be rooting so fucking hard for you. Bro,
- 43:16Speaker 1: you definitely have one over our whole audience.
- 43:18Speaker 6: And sure, I love y'all. Fuck I'm one of y'all.
- 43:21Speaker 7: I go one more question, all right, So you said
- 43:24Speaker 7: that you there's a lot of songs you write for yourself.
- 43:28Speaker 7: What what what separates those songs with you being like
- 43:31Speaker 7: this is for me? Is it just like something too personal?
- 43:34Speaker 7: Or is it like this song couldn't help anyone else
- 43:37Speaker 7: except for me?
- 43:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's sometimes it too, is that if
- 43:40Speaker 6: I thought it could help a lot of other people,
- 43:42Speaker 6: I'd still release it.
- 43:42Speaker 8: Sometimes it's too personal. Sometimes it's just a thought I
- 43:45Speaker 8: needed to get out right then, and it ain't worth
- 43:47Speaker 8: chasing down a full song. And then sometimes you know
- 43:50Speaker 8: how life is in a music business man. I know
- 43:52Speaker 8: this might sound weird, and I don't know. Maybe you
- 43:54Speaker 8: can compare this and make me feel better, better than
- 43:56Speaker 8: your world. But sometimes shit don't make ship just because
- 43:59Speaker 8: it's too close to something else. Like you could have
- 44:02Speaker 8: I don't know if you could have a really good
- 44:04Speaker 8: joke about this.
- 44:04Speaker 1: And this, But they just stole a joke because it
- 44:08Speaker 1: had a similar premise to something that, like John Mulaney said.
- 44:11Speaker 4: At some point they're like, oh well, and then so
- 44:13Speaker 4: he like, they don't need to be.
- 44:14Speaker 7: Bringing all that up.
- 44:17Speaker 14: It's definitely, I'm assuming, for a word, not steal any jokes.
- 44:33Speaker 4: No, but he deleted all the ship offline because it was.
- 44:36Speaker 7: No, it's still there, It's fully there.
- 44:38Speaker 6: Still it was.
- 44:40Speaker 7: It was a joke about me my thought process while
- 44:45Speaker 7: a girl is walking in front of me, and I
- 44:48Speaker 7: was like, I'm paranoid walking home in the dark because
- 44:50Speaker 7: I'm paranoid that she's paranoid that I'm following her. And
- 44:53Speaker 7: then apparently John mlaney had a bit about following a
- 44:55Speaker 7: girl on a subway and he was like, well, those
- 44:58Speaker 7: are pretty common thoughts.
- 45:00Speaker 8: Yeah, you know in our world. The edge sharing lawsuit
- 45:03Speaker 8: was really big for us, Marvin. It was really big
- 45:07Speaker 8: because when we lost the Blurred Lines lawsuit. I say we,
- 45:11Speaker 8: I mean like for writers and creatives, because any one
- 45:14Speaker 8: of those lawsuits can go in a way in which
- 45:16Speaker 8: it could change the paradigm of music forever. If enough
- 45:19Speaker 8: of those lawsuits start getting the cracks and people start
- 45:21Speaker 8: feeling like their own grooves and rhythms and co cor proressions, building.
- 45:25Speaker 6: Blocks and music, I mean, it could fuck us all.
- 45:27Speaker 8: So I watched that intently. But I've also realized that
- 45:32Speaker 8: there are fifty thousand people a year to moves in
- 45:36Speaker 8: Nashville to be a songwriter. Yeah, I am naive to
- 45:39Speaker 8: think the most creative song I think of right now
- 45:42Speaker 8: that somebody else isn't writing no, I agree with that.
- 45:45Speaker 7: I mean every like, every thought has been thought for.
- 45:48Speaker 6: Sure, nothing news under the sun, per salom, even back
- 45:50Speaker 6: in the Bible. So it's like, for me, it's in
- 45:54Speaker 6: that space.
- 45:54Speaker 8: And sometimes I'll hear stuff and I'm like, that's too
- 45:56Speaker 8: close or too conceptually, or sometimes I'll fuck myself, Like
- 46:00Speaker 8: I'll have two really good songs about a similar subject,
- 46:04Speaker 8: so similar, I'm like, I can't put them both out.
- 46:06Speaker 8: So sometimes that shit'll sit for two years and I'll
- 46:09Speaker 8: double it back on an album later. I'll be like, oh, man,
- 46:12Speaker 8: remember that old record. Fuck, let's blow the dust off
- 46:14Speaker 8: at and see if it works now that it's not
- 46:15Speaker 8: sitting right next to the other song that sounded. Yeah,
- 46:18Speaker 8: And that gets into weird timing stuff like songs in
- 46:21Speaker 8: six eight, that specific timing, the way that beat swings.
- 46:26Speaker 8: I don't care how different you think you are, No
- 46:29Speaker 8: motherfucker's gonna start sounding like sooner and later, dude, Yeah,
- 46:32Speaker 8: you know what I mean. There's only so many ways
- 46:33Speaker 8: to get in that groove, you know what I mean. Specific,
- 46:37Speaker 8: it's such a specific thing that you're just like you
- 46:39Speaker 8: get lost. So sometimes I'll have songs where it's like
- 46:42Speaker 8: I was just too many six eighths on this album. Yeah,
- 46:44Speaker 8: you know what I mean, It's just weird shit.
- 46:45Speaker 7: That kind of happens to the baby. Yeah, a lot
- 46:49Speaker 7: of his music started sounding exactly the same.
- 46:51Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think him feeding it to us at
- 46:53Speaker 6: the rate he was at the time didn't help.
- 46:55Speaker 5: Yeah, his nasty things, Yeah, live microphone but yeah, that's
- 47:05Speaker 5: a radio live show killer is what he called himself.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Swear it was this thing.
- 47:10Speaker 7: Did John doesn't come for you?
- 47:11Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure, he's a He's an incredible live entertainer
- 47:16Speaker 6: till y'all seen him live. But it's he's a he's
- 47:21Speaker 6: a standout guy. But I think he think he just
- 47:24Speaker 6: need to take some time off.
- 47:25Speaker 8: Yeah, are different artist voice textures lean Like Morgan's got
- 47:29Speaker 8: that kind of voice that I don't think I can
- 47:31Speaker 8: get sick of hearing it, you know what I mean.
- 47:34Speaker 8: Where it's like other artists have that voice that's so special,
- 47:37Speaker 8: Like even Adele. I think Adele cycles every two years.
- 47:40Speaker 6: But this is me guessing. I don't know Adele.
- 47:42Speaker 8: Even though I love you Adele, I will say I
- 47:45Speaker 8: think she cycles because her thing is she knows that
- 47:48Speaker 8: her voice is so big and so impactful, you know,
- 47:51Speaker 8: what I mean that you can only.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Just it just belting. It's like a style. It's such
- 47:56Speaker 4: a style that you just.
- 47:57Speaker 6: You wait for it to come back, and every time
- 47:59Speaker 6: it lows your mind again because you're a.
- 48:01Speaker 4: Little bit forget about it and you're like, oh shit,
- 48:03Speaker 4: I forgot she like that, it just happened.
- 48:06Speaker 6: Take it easy, baby. I was like, oh my god,
- 48:11Speaker 6: I got you. You know what I mean. It's like,
- 48:16Speaker 6: and she can do that every three years. The rest
- 48:17Speaker 6: of her life are.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Going to age beautifully with her. She's gonna be able
- 48:21Speaker 4: to fucking prune like Aretha Franklin.
- 48:23Speaker 8: As long as she's got the I know she had
- 48:26Speaker 8: vocal surgery, so as long as she's taking care of
- 48:28Speaker 8: that voice, she'll do that.
- 48:29Speaker 7: Yeah, what do you think about like like Frank Ocean,
- 48:31Speaker 7: someone who's only put out like two albums.
- 48:34Speaker 6: I love it. Here's my thing about music. I love
- 48:38Speaker 6: both sides of this.
- 48:40Speaker 8: I love artists like Jelly Roll, who come on here
- 48:42Speaker 8: and tell you about every band decision made on cocaine.
- 48:45Speaker 8: Yes right, thank you, thank you. I love artists that
- 48:47Speaker 8: are just like this is who I am all the time.
- 48:49Speaker 8: And I love artists like The Weekend who I've seen
- 48:52Speaker 8: do one interview in his whole career.
- 48:55Speaker 7: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 48:56Speaker 4: You don't even know his voice sounds like I was.
- 48:58Speaker 8: I was four five albums into the Weekend before I
- 49:03Speaker 8: heard his speaking voice.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Yeah, totally. You don't know.
- 49:06Speaker 6: You don't have no clue.
- 49:07Speaker 8: I don't know anything about this guy. I know I
- 49:09Speaker 8: love every song he's ever put out. Ever in the
- 49:12Speaker 8: helps his aura.
- 49:13Speaker 6: It helps his aura.
- 49:14Speaker 8: I'm afraid. And my thing is, I'm afraid if he came.
- 49:16Speaker 8: I'm afraid. I've heard behind the scenes. He's the sweetest
- 49:19Speaker 8: guy on earth and he's a really down to earth dude.
- 49:22Speaker 8: And if I met that dude, I would love that.
- 49:24Speaker 8: And I hope that's who he is.
- 49:26Speaker 6: But as a fan, I also hope he's just a
- 49:28Speaker 6: complete fucking space cadet drug addict. Yeah, five girls a day,
- 49:32Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying. That's what I fucking hope.
- 49:34Speaker 8: You know what I mean, because that's the way I
- 49:35Speaker 8: pitch on the weekend. But I know he's you know,
- 49:38Speaker 8: but and he's done a good job at that, And
- 49:39Speaker 8: that's what makes and I love both sides. I love
- 49:41Speaker 8: I love all that shit in music. I think that's
- 49:43Speaker 8: what makes music so cold. Yeah, and I think that
- 49:45Speaker 8: the fuck dude, I always.
- 49:46Speaker 6: Could parallel stuff Andrew Schultzes.
- 49:48Speaker 8: But I love it where it's like I see the
- 49:49Speaker 8: same thing in comedy right where it's like you have
- 49:52Speaker 8: guys like Burt Kreischer who wake up and I love Burt.
- 49:55Speaker 8: He's one of my probably my top five comedians on Earth.
- 49:58Speaker 8: And he wakes up and tells you his more and
- 50:00Speaker 8: bow movements and you follow.
- 50:03Speaker 10: Every day.
- 50:03Speaker 6: Yeah, and then you have guys like a Tail Yeah,
- 50:06Speaker 6: why well, he's just a mystery, just a mystery, and
- 50:09Speaker 6: but you know when he comes he's killing around. When
- 50:12Speaker 6: you assume him, you're just like, oh, he's fitting the murder. Yeah,
- 50:15Speaker 6: Like these people have no clue because ever.
- 50:17Speaker 8: Yeah, for sure, because like casual fans don't know him
- 50:19Speaker 8: and I watch him walk up and you know, I'll
- 50:21Speaker 8: be like, it's over.
- 50:22Speaker 6: You have no clue. It is kind of cool.
- 50:25Speaker 7: It is cool that, like I mean, he is, he's
- 50:29Speaker 7: he's kind of mainstream, like people like comedy. Every comedy fan.
- 50:33Speaker 6: On Earth notes is, but like comedy going mainstream.
- 50:36Speaker 7: Yeah exactly, but like average like people go into a
- 50:39Speaker 7: comedy show, they don't all know who David Taela is.
- 50:41Speaker 7: Then he goes in and he just fucking rips up
- 50:43Speaker 7: the room.
- 50:44Speaker 8: No, and he's so unassuming. So it's like, I love
- 50:47Speaker 8: I love all that ship. That's I think that's part
- 50:49Speaker 8: of the magic of artistry. I think that's what makes
- 50:51Speaker 8: this ship so cool. Like people over here who hadn't
- 50:53Speaker 8: said anything or pulled anything up.
- 51:00Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying is you send it emails
- 51:02Speaker 6: or press releases, just taking notes.
- 51:05Speaker 4: He's buffing his ass. B No, bro, Uh, it's we
- 51:11Speaker 4: got it. We got a good squad in here. Bro.

- 51:24Speaker 6: Okay, wait to hear it. Yeah, I love this guy.
