- 0:56So for today's episode I want to talk about finding love in the
- 1:01abroad. But as we all know, this is the
- 1:06jack, My Generation. Everybody wants to travel.
- 1:09Everybody wants to Jack back. Everybody wants a good life.
- 1:12Everybody wants to leave the insecurities in Nigeria behind.
- 1:17I mean, especially this election period.
- 1:20The actually recorded that over like millions of people recently
- 1:25applied for the international passports.
- 1:27So you know that people are living, people are leaving o,
- 1:33people are planning to leave. Leave before the election, or
- 1:36even after the election. So with all these things going
- 1:40on, everybody's trying to find out how they're going to leave
- 1:42my injury and lady who has been in the UK for over seven years,
- 1:47posted a video online and she was advising people that if you
- 1:52want to Jack. Now if you want to travel and
- 1:55show that you sort out your romantic life, before you do
- 1:58that or possibly get married before traveling, she was giving
- 2:02the reason that she's been UK for over seven years that nobody
- 2:07has even posted her. I am not sure how true that is,
- 2:12but according to her, she has been in the UK for that long and
- 2:17nobody has asked her out. She doesn't have a relationship,
- 2:21she doesn't have a lover, and she was advising people that if
- 2:24you're traveling. Make sure that you so start
- 2:27Parts out before coming to the UK or in diaspora, in this case,
- 2:33she lives in the UK. Okay, so you went viral a lot of
- 2:37people that are having conversation about it.
- 2:39A lot of we may not many duties that complaining about not being
- 2:44able to find love in the UK. A lot of them say that because
- 2:47of the working hours, you know, crazy working hours, especially
- 2:52those ones who want to, you know, how extra publish
- 2:56something back home. They literally work around the
- 2:59clock to be able to save money to attend to those To Nigeria,
- 3:05so sometimes they don't even have time for themselves
- 3:08Sometimes. Some of these people even sleep,
- 3:10like two hours, you know, who day and then the next day boom,
- 3:16they're up and running. One of the questions I ask
- 3:19myself is how are you? You know, relationship-wise you
- 3:23have problems in relationships, like, finding a partner.
- 3:29And the truth is, I don't think that I am not diminishing her
- 3:36experience, maybe she has never had a relationship or nobody has
- 3:40ever hosted her. But I think one of the problem
- 3:43is because people walk around the clock, especially
- 3:47first-generation immigrants. Let's say you travels as if
- 3:52students. And you're going to school,
- 3:55you're working trying to find your footings and possibly pay
- 4:00your school fees because most times the paper school fees, And
- 4:04then, they come here and work to pay school fees.
- 4:07So, you're literally walking around the clock not just to pay
- 4:11your school fees. Supposed to pay your
- 4:12accommodation fee maintenance, just to take care of yourself
- 4:17and possibly save money to even send back home in Nigeria.
- 4:22So, most times these people work around the clock, seven days a
- 4:26week. And then after school, you have
- 4:30to now try to regularize your stay.
- 4:33You're trying to work even more noun to save some money to get
- 4:40your papers, right? And this actually takes some
- 4:44time to do and everybody's running.
- 4:46So you won't even even if somebody is listening.
- 4:49Even if somebody is toasting you at that point, you you're going
- 4:53to start thinking, oh, does this person have papers?
- 4:57Does this person have this possessed person have that?
- 5:00I mean, let me give you an example of a friend of mine.
- 5:04We were students, and she was older than I am, and she wanted
- 5:10to get into a serious relationship.
- 5:13She just finished a master's at that point in time.
- 5:15And she felt, you know, marriage.
- 5:20It's time to get married and she was having in one or two
- 5:25relationship in the UK, but one thing she kept hammering on was
- 5:29the fact that they were not up to her standards.
- 5:34And listen. Okay, let me visit this week.
- 5:38She would not let anybody who is she is able.
- 5:41So, if you're the person is approaching her, she be like,
- 5:45no, no, no. Can do if any person is
- 5:49approaching her? She'd be like, yeah, but the
- 5:51vehicle together I cannot this this kind of person so she was
- 5:55very selective. He narrowed our search down to
- 6:00this particular. It has to be evil and not just
- 6:03evil from Ha State, everyone's measure and states.
- 6:07It has to be from her States. So, when she finally found
- 6:11somebody, she was actually introduced to somebody who lived
- 6:14in the UK. I don't know where the person is
- 6:16right now, who lived in the UK, and he was working.
- 6:20So, she told me about this person, I was excited because I
- 6:25felt okay. Finally, at least you don't have
- 6:29the challenge of saying, this person is not evil or this
- 6:32person. This is not from your state.
- 6:34So when they started going out, she came back to me.
- 6:37I chose La his accent that he has this ebook tuned by.
- 6:44She cannot see cannot cool that her friends would laugh at her
- 6:48because our friends, this one is Mary's with dr.
- 6:51This one is married to a lawyer. This one is married to a pirate
- 6:55and how, you know, the guy is a construction worker, he was
- 7:00okay. It was doing fine but she said
- 7:03the, the The boat on that is a she cannot.
- 7:07She cannot deal that. Even if she manages the
- 7:11relationship, what if her friends?
- 7:14They're going on vacation, they say couple trips and all that,
- 7:18that should be ashamed of her husband.
- 7:21This guy was a nice guy, this guy very UK but she refused to
- 7:28go ahead with our relationship just because of the eboot food.
- 7:34I I'm not like I we've all been guilty of rejecting people
- 7:40because of certain things, that superficial things that we know
- 7:45that's okay. This is not even supposed to be
- 7:48an issue, or I'm not even trying to blame her because this is her
- 7:53choice. This is who she wants to spend
- 7:55the rest of her life with, and if she feels that this person is
- 7:59no, somebody, I can be proud of nobody should, you know, George
- 8:05Based on that. But what happened a couple of
- 8:08months later, a couple of years later, she told me there are no
- 8:12men in the UK that you give me 10 serious.
- 8:18You give people don't want, don't want serious relationship.
- 8:21UK people don't want marriage. UK, people, don't want more.
- 8:25You have narrowed your search down to.
- 8:27It is literally a particular, ethnic group and the ones that
- 8:32you are finding. Or finding faults in them.
- 8:37I am guilty as charged. I am not trying to listen.
- 8:44I want this table, but I would not come out and say, there are
- 8:49no men in the UK. I would not come out and say
- 8:52that there are no serious lationship in the UK, I will not
- 8:55come out and say that I have been here seven years and nobody
- 9:01has asked me out, fact is no true.
- 9:04Sometimes because of the requirements because of just the
- 9:08heavy load of being a first-generation immigrant, the
- 9:13heavy load of being an international students, but
- 9:15heavy load of just trying to find your footings.
- 9:19Novo, relationship takes the backseat.
- 9:23So, when you actually now think, okay, I am ready to start
- 9:27finding logo to find a husband. You see that most times you not
- 9:32have a whole bunch of Le T's that you're not taking care of
- 9:37and you have to work in a certain amount of hours to be
- 9:41able to meet all of those responsibilities most times.
- 9:45You see people like people work around the clock just because
- 9:50they want to drive Range Rover. Like I concludes that there is
- 9:57this lady. Not a friend of mine was telling
- 10:00me about she was you know she came in as a student.
- 10:04She was working. She got a good job and because
- 10:09of pressure you know peer pressure like my friend is
- 10:12driving range. This one is driving range.
- 10:15This one is driving range. She literally got a second job.
- 10:20I was working around the clock to be able to finance a Range
- 10:25Rover. And this person is actually
- 10:28looking for asking people to introduce her to people but she
- 10:33is literally Working around the clock.
- 10:35Even if somebody introduce you to that person.
- 10:37Now, how you would you find time to even go on a date?
- 10:41When they are calling you, you're in your first job when
- 10:44they want to ask you as you're in your second job.
- 10:46So, I don't think it's because of UK.
- 10:50That is making people even in Nigeria.
- 10:52People will tell you that people in Lagos are not serious or
- 10:56relationship in Legos are not zero.
- 10:58So Legos, people don't and all serious about getting married or
- 11:02getting into relationship. I Is because of the fast piece
- 11:06of the Rocks race. Basically, I mean, there are a
- 11:10lot of people in Lagos that getting married.
- 11:12There are lots of people in Desperate that getting married,
- 11:15but I just think it's because of the fact that everybody is
- 11:18trying to achieve certain level of success that the forget about
- 11:24love, people don't even date to for companionship, people don't
- 11:30date to have somebody to talk to people don't even In days, just
- 11:35for the phone of dating. You see people especially
- 11:39desperate. They did this because they want
- 11:41to marry. So when you even asking them
- 11:44out, they have all these criterias that they've set aside
- 11:49if you're not in Niger, is especially Nigerians, if you're
- 11:53in a Nigerian you're disqualified, regardless of how
- 11:56good you are productive. Listen, that is disqualification
- 12:01then if it's somebody that has educated and Need somebody that
- 12:05maybe it's not that educated then that disqualifies, that
- 12:09person because you're thinking. What will my friends?
- 12:12See, if I married this kind of person or according to my French
- 12:16was like, if they go on vacation, people would be
- 12:20laughing as a husband, or she would be ashamed to introduce a
- 12:24husband to have friends. Basically, as a result, a lot of
- 12:28that aspirants go back to Nigeria to get married.
- 12:32And then, you know, bring that Person over all the men,
- 12:36basically, just leave their wives day and continue working
- 12:40Round. The Clock to be able to take
- 12:42care of them back home while the women most times bring their
- 12:45husbands over, the ones that are happy to come over and start
- 12:49life. All over again.
- 12:51I just think it's not about not being able to find love in
- 12:55diaspora. It's not about oh, I've been
- 12:57here over for over 7 years and nobody has asked me out if you
- 13:02actually sit this lady. I'm actually talk to her.
- 13:06You will hear that. A wise man has approached an
- 13:09Indian as approach to a Chinese has approached.
- 13:12Our even, a Zimbabwean has approached her and she'll be
- 13:17like Noah must be a Nigerian and the same Nigerian that you're
- 13:21trying to get is also working around the clock.
- 13:25And they also are trying to because they don't even have
- 13:29time for relationship. They are trying to maintain
- 13:31something back home. So these two people Pilar just
- 13:35on the two opposite ends. That's not necessarily can come
- 13:39together and meet each other to form a meaningful relationship.
- 13:44So how say if you're traveling if you have a good relationship
- 13:49in Nigeria, there's nothing wrong with that game.
- 13:52Married to your partner and travel and then you re like,
- 13:56okay, when you get your papers, you can file for your partner to
- 13:59join you. There's no problem with that,
- 14:02but most times When you're in Nigeria and you're thinking, oh
- 14:06let me just marry this person and hosel and then we'll bring
- 14:09them is a different ballgame when you get here because if you
- 14:13come here and it's an Indian that gives you happiness and no,
- 14:17Nigerian is actually you out while follow the India.
- 14:23Wow. Lodi India person.
- 14:24Listen. I this is an advice for myself
- 14:27as well. You know, follow that person and
- 14:31most times little snot just days because We would eat in some
- 14:37Mary sometimes date for the fun of it.
- 14:41People, don't they for phone? People just want to date is
- 14:45about marriage is about marriage because we Africans is being
- 14:49drummed into our head that once you, you know, go to school.
- 14:53Graduates, get a job marriage. So, nobody is kind of taking
- 14:57their time to date. Everybody's taking their time to
- 15:00just jump into things. So, when you see somebody that
- 15:04is Not ready to jump in as quickly as you want to.
- 15:09That is where people say that nobody in there are no serious
- 15:12men in the Aspera or there are no serious women in diaspora.
- 15:18That is not the case. Sometimes sometimes they are not
- 15:22serious, sometimes they are demons in that group are both
- 15:28men and women, but it is not portion.
- 15:31It is not your portion. If To find somebody whether in
- 15:37diaspora or in Nigeria, that's meets what you want, not just
- 15:44like, satisfying, your friends or your family's needs but your
- 15:49own need your own desire of all you want in a partner.
- 15:53If the person meets that then go ahead, enjoy your life and be
- 15:58happy, be happy. Life is not about marriage is
- 16:01not about who this person must be in Nigeria.
- 16:04And it doesn't must be from your back.
- 16:06This person must be from ebook this person missing, it's a
- 16:10globalized world right now that we live in.
- 16:13If you're waiting for just an able man to marry you, then you
- 16:17get 250 and you say oh there are men asked us.
- 16:21May not know Scott's you start going to night VG.
- 16:26Daddy me, Diego, Carry Me Diego, my husband house.
- 16:31That's why you got me singing. She looked You believe or go
- 16:35cannot do, you'll be going to different mountains to pray for
- 16:39husband where there are so many people that you could get
- 16:42married? Like, I finally difficult and
- 16:45people say there are no Men. Let me just me, like, I don't
- 16:50know. What do you remember his name?
- 16:55I just think people want what they wants and you cannot knock
- 17:00them for wanting what they want. But let us Cast our net wider.
- 17:06If you do that, you will come out on complain, about being in
- 17:11the UK for seven years, and nobody has asked you out.
- 17:14Ask people out both bulbs, go to pubs, by one wise guy, a drink,
- 17:21I can assure you, you have a boyfriend.
- 17:27You would definitely have a boyfriend, but he's not the kind
- 17:32of boyfriend you want. That is now live.
- 17:34You to decide what kind of relationship you want.
- 17:38So thank you very much for watching today's episode.
- 17:40This is where I have to stop today and let me know your
- 17:43experience I'm in scarce because Hmm this is a question that we
- 17:49need to ask ourselves. I women's class what I'd Aspera
- 17:54or in Nigeria or is it the fact that we have specific
- 18:00requirements that we're looking for and those specific?
- 18:04Requirements, ask us if that is the case, let me know.
- 18:09Leave me a comment in the comment section and thank you
- 18:11very much for watching. Today's episode for bye.
