- 0:17Speaker 1: Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com one
- 0:33Speaker 1: of twelves. This is Hawk Talk Preview edition, Week eight.
- 0:37Speaker 1: The Seahawks take on the forty nine ers. I'm Michael
- 0:40Speaker 1: Bumpas along with Nasa Choby. But before we get into
- 0:42Speaker 1: the details, here's the injury update. Thanks bump Well, we
- 0:45Speaker 1: got a lot going on in this week's injury report,
- 0:48Speaker 1: some good news and a lot of we'll have to
- 0:50Speaker 1: wait and see. Head coach p Carroll got things going
- 0:53Speaker 1: with an update on the entire running back room. Carlos
- 0:55Speaker 1: with the hamstring is probably know that it's not a
- 0:59Speaker 1: major hamstring, so we don't know. It was kind of
- 1:01Speaker 1: it happened during a celebration more than running on the field,
- 1:05Speaker 1: and so we're hoping it was a little more crampy
- 1:06Speaker 1: than it was a pull. We'll find out here in
- 1:08Speaker 1: the next couple of days. Homer, he's got a bruise
- 1:12Speaker 1: knee that he's already moving way way better. He won't
- 1:15Speaker 1: practice today, but he's moving way better from yesterday already.
- 1:19Speaker 1: And Chris has got a foot something's going on in
- 1:22Speaker 1: his foot that we got to make you see how
- 1:24Speaker 1: it goes. We'll be real quiet on Chris until the
- 1:26Speaker 1: end of the week and see how he goes on
- 1:27Speaker 1: the weekend. So we won't know entirely what's happening until
- 1:31Speaker 1: the week is out. Another guy that we've been eagerly
- 1:34Speaker 1: awaiting his return, and that is Jamal Adams. Just how
- 1:38Speaker 1: close is he to coming back. He's gonna be practicing
- 1:42Speaker 1: in a limited fashion for the first time today and
- 1:44Speaker 1: so we'll see what that means and see how he goes.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And tomorrow would be a really important day for him
- 1:49Speaker 1: as well. Friday. We're going one day at a time,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and we're mixing him in in the preparation with the
- 1:54Speaker 1: thought that there's a chance and but we're gonna just
- 1:56Speaker 1: have to wait and see how he does. And finally,
- 1:57Speaker 1: to wrap things up, Shaquiel Griffin is still in concussion
- 2:00Speaker 1: protocol after suffering that against the Cardinals last week. But
- 2:03Speaker 1: some good news is Rashime Green and Phil Haynes are
- 2:06Speaker 1: finally on the road back. He's going to practice this
- 2:09Speaker 1: week and Philippines were both coming out on the practice
- 2:12Speaker 1: field for the first time in a long time. So
- 2:13Speaker 1: we're really excited to get them back out there. And lastly,
- 2:16Speaker 1: before we get going, don't forget to join Hawks Live
- 2:19Speaker 1: every Thursday at seven pm. It's Hawks Live on seven
- 2:22Speaker 1: ten ESPN Seattle, but Michael Bumpus and Paul Moyer prepare
- 2:25Speaker 1: you for each and every game with their insight analysis,
- 2:28Speaker 1: player interviews, and behind the scenes looks. At the seahawks
- 2:31Speaker 1: next matchup, which is the San Francisco forty nine Ers,
- 2:35Speaker 1: let's get into who's next, Who's next, Who's next, Who's next.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'll tell you who's next. In San Francisco forty nine
- 2:46Speaker 1: Ers are four and three, and that is last place
- 2:48Speaker 1: in the NFC West. That's why last place. That's how
- 2:51Speaker 1: great this division is right now. Now they have losses
- 2:54Speaker 1: to Arizona, Eagles and Miami. They're wins come against two
- 2:58Speaker 1: horrible New York teams, the Jets and the Giants. They
- 3:01Speaker 1: got an impressive win against the Rams and just smacked
- 3:04Speaker 1: the New England pages. What are your first impressions on
- 3:07Speaker 1: this team? Are they for real? You know? I went
- 3:09Speaker 1: back and forth on this because honestly, at the beginning
- 3:11Speaker 1: of the year, I was like, Okay, they played Arizona
- 3:14Speaker 1: full strength, so they lost to Arizona with all their dudes,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and then they go to New York they started getting
- 3:18Speaker 1: kind of banged up, and it was like, you said,
- 3:20Speaker 1: those teams are just not good football teams right now.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And then I kind of thought they were done. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: was getting ready to write them off after losses to
- 3:27Speaker 1: the Eagles and getting throttled by Miami at home. But
- 3:30Speaker 1: the last two weeks bump, they're kind of hanging into
- 3:32Speaker 1: They're getting a couple of guys back, Roppolo came back.
- 3:35Speaker 1: They beat the Rams, who are a decent team. We
- 3:38Speaker 1: still can't figure them out, and they just I mean,
- 3:40Speaker 1: they beat the brakes off the Patriots last week. Man,
- 3:42Speaker 1: that was something. So they're kind of there. I don't
- 3:44Speaker 1: really know what to think about them. Yeah, I mean,
- 3:46Speaker 1: this is the NFL, so you respect everybody. But they
- 3:48Speaker 1: just smacked the Pages and the Pages aren't doing great.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It was thirty three to six. The Pages can do anything.
- 3:55Speaker 1: They put a two hundred and forty two total yards
- 3:57Speaker 1: and just you look at the drive charts. Five play drive.
- 4:01Speaker 1: This is for the Patriots. Five play drive six play
- 4:03Speaker 1: drive one three two eight. I mean towards the end
- 4:06Speaker 1: of the game, they started to extend their drives, I
- 4:08Speaker 1: guess by one or two first downs. But it ends
- 4:10Speaker 1: in the field goal interception interceptions. Didn't they end the game?
- 4:14Speaker 1: New England ain't right. But you can't knock the forty
- 4:16Speaker 1: nine ers for going back to Foxborow where Jimmy g
- 4:19Speaker 1: got his start. Is probably nice for him to go
- 4:21Speaker 1: in there him and smack these dudes, and they just
- 4:23Speaker 1: got the job done. I look at this team and
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm like, when they're healthy, they're a good football team.
- 4:28Speaker 1: But how healthy are they going to be? As a question?
- 4:31Speaker 1: How healthy they're gonna be as a great question because
- 4:33Speaker 1: Bump you mentioned it. Their injuries are unbelievable. So just
- 4:37Speaker 1: to just give you some context, guys of how bad
- 4:39Speaker 1: it's been for the Niners this season. The team that
- 4:42Speaker 1: was in the Super Bowl last year, they only have
- 4:45Speaker 1: four starters on the field from that team that took
- 4:47Speaker 1: the field against the Chiefs. I mean Richard Sherman out,
- 4:51Speaker 1: Kawan Alexander gone, defensive end, Nick Bosa gone, d Ford gone,
- 4:55Speaker 1: Jimmy Ward, Tart gone, and now you have Mostard and
- 4:59Speaker 1: Tevin Coleman going to IR. Then you have Deebo Samuel
- 5:01Speaker 1: going to IR. So they've been banged up and they've
- 5:03Speaker 1: been they've been crushed by injuries, similar to how the
- 5:05Speaker 1: Seahawks were at the end of last season when they
- 5:07Speaker 1: played that Week seventeen game. But they are they're struggling.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But with that being said, even with all that, the
- 5:14Speaker 1: dudes that they do have, which we'll get to a
- 5:15Speaker 1: man up, are playing pretty good football. They still got
- 5:17Speaker 1: use Jack, they still got George Kittle, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Bump.
- 5:21Speaker 1: When you look at this head to head comparison, man,
- 5:23Speaker 1: what stands out to me is their defensive numbers. Yeah. Defense, defense.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I mean, that's what has impressed us the most about
- 5:29Speaker 1: the forty ninets over the past few years is their defense.
- 5:32Speaker 1: So I mean, again we'll get into two more they
- 5:36Speaker 1: had to head matches when it comes to the person now.
- 5:37Speaker 1: But now we look at the numbers. Their rush offense
- 5:40Speaker 1: had the eighth ranked rush offense in the league. They
- 5:42Speaker 1: have the twenty first ranked pass offense. That gives me
- 5:47Speaker 1: hope optimism. We know how the Hawks give up a
- 5:50Speaker 1: lot of yards in the past games, so hopefully they
- 5:52Speaker 1: lock it down there their past defense though they are
- 5:54Speaker 1: number three in the NFL with past defense allowing two
- 5:57Speaker 1: hundred and three yards. To me that will mean to
- 6:00Speaker 1: know because you got Russell Wilson, you got DK you
- 6:02Speaker 1: got locked, you got Greg Olson, David Moore, you got
- 6:05Speaker 1: guys who are just gonna do their thing regardless. But
- 6:07Speaker 1: we have to, I guess, recognize that it might be
- 6:10Speaker 1: tougher when it comes to the past game, especially coming
- 6:12Speaker 1: off the game that Russell had last week. He's got
- 6:14Speaker 1: to bounce back, He's got to take care of the football.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Though they are the number three ranked past the past
- 6:19Speaker 1: defense in the NFL, I expect him to get back
- 6:21Speaker 1: on track. The Seahawks, Oh, no question about it. And
- 6:23Speaker 1: the thing about that too is I think what's inflated
- 6:25Speaker 1: those numbers a little bit is like you mentioned earlier,
- 6:27Speaker 1: is playing both teams from New York. I mean, they
- 6:29Speaker 1: completely shut those guys down in the passing game, so
- 6:31Speaker 1: I think that inflates their numbers a little bit. Not
- 6:33Speaker 1: to take away from them, because like I said, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: think they're a good team through the fifth ranked of
- 6:37Speaker 1: scoring defense, only allowing nineteen points per game. But as
- 6:40Speaker 1: we've learned last week even I mean the Cardinals winning
- 6:42Speaker 1: too that game the number two scoring defense and the
- 6:44Speaker 1: Seahawks put up a ton of points on them. So
- 6:46Speaker 1: I think we're gonna get right offensively. Like we mentioned,
- 6:48Speaker 1: there's no way Russell Wilson throws three interceptions again. Especially
- 6:52Speaker 1: we come in with a number one ranked offense in
- 6:54Speaker 1: yards and in points per game. So I definitely think
- 6:57Speaker 1: this is a game where the Seahawks can kind of
- 6:59Speaker 1: get right in. The Seahawks are historically very good coming
- 7:02Speaker 1: off of a loss under the Carroll and Russell Wilson. Well,
- 7:06Speaker 1: I hope they continue that trend because they need to
- 7:08Speaker 1: bounce back. We talked about these teams currently. Now let's
- 7:11Speaker 1: go back in time. Know your history, No your history,
- 7:16Speaker 1: all right, So these teams have played a time in
- 7:18Speaker 1: the last you know, thirty years or so. Seattle leads
- 7:21Speaker 1: the all time series twenty five to seventeen. Seahawks have
- 7:24Speaker 1: been absolutely dominant since Russell Wilson was drafted. In this series,
- 7:28Speaker 1: Russell has won twelve of sixteen games played, including nine
- 7:31Speaker 1: in a row at one point. Unfortunately, their last meeting,
- 7:36Speaker 1: we all know what happened. Came down to a fourth
- 7:38Speaker 1: to ten, you convert onto the goal line complete to
- 7:42Speaker 1: Jacob Polliser just short. Seahawks lose, Niners win the division.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Blah blah blah. We know what happened at dad of that. Well,
- 7:48Speaker 1: I'd rather think about because the time they met before
- 7:51Speaker 1: that was also in twenty nineteen, when it came down
- 7:54Speaker 1: to this in overtime, after forty five waits for the snack,
- 7:58Speaker 1: Michael Dickson puts it. Yeah, that kick is away, and
- 8:01Speaker 1: that kick is good. The Seahoups win. It's good some
- 8:06Speaker 1: forty two. The Seahawks in overtime went for the second time.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Get two weeks have they been the undefeated now? Once
- 8:15Speaker 1: defeated San Francisco forty nine ers. What a game on
- 8:19Speaker 1: Monday Night football. The Seahawks win it overtime and Jason
- 8:24Speaker 1: Meyers does it. What a game? The thing that I
- 8:27Speaker 1: like about this is that the Seahawks dominated the Niners
- 8:30Speaker 1: in that in between right after the run ended with
- 8:32Speaker 1: Kaepernake and Harbor on all of that, the Niners didn't
- 8:34Speaker 1: have a good football team for a long time. What
- 8:36Speaker 1: I loved about last year is that rivalry finally came back.
- 8:39Speaker 1: It wasn't quite at the peak as it was in
- 8:41Speaker 1: twenty thirteen, but it felt good again in both games
- 8:44Speaker 1: coming down to the wire. So you know, you always
- 8:46Speaker 1: gotta get your popcorn ready in this environment. So it's
- 8:48Speaker 1: good to see some of that come back. You always
- 8:51Speaker 1: gotta get your popcorn ready, regardless when it comes to
- 8:54Speaker 1: the Seahawks. Now, you thought the forty nine is in there,
- 8:56Speaker 1: so you know is going to be a tough one
- 8:58Speaker 1: in history says that, then the Seahawks should be able
- 9:01Speaker 1: to take care of this, but you never know. This
- 9:03Speaker 1: is the NFL. Let's talk about what's going on in
- 9:06Speaker 1: the division. What's the word in the West and the
- 9:13Speaker 1: Seahawks are the NFC West champs again, what's the word
- 9:17Speaker 1: in the West? On Hawk talk? The word in the
- 9:21Speaker 1: West is the West is the best NFC West Man
- 9:25Speaker 1: Hawks are five and one, Cardinals, five and two, Rams,
- 9:27Speaker 1: five and two, San Francis at last place at four
- 9:30Speaker 1: and three. Now, the Seahawks are still number one in
- 9:33Speaker 1: the in the division regardless or excuse me, after losing
- 9:37Speaker 1: to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday Night football. Now, the
- 9:40Speaker 1: West hasn't combined seven h four win percentage. That's nineteen
- 9:45Speaker 1: and eight combined record. That's tied for the second highest
- 9:48Speaker 1: combined percentage for division through seven weeks since the nineteen
- 9:52Speaker 1: seventy merger. This, I mean, we knew this division was
- 9:56Speaker 1: gonna be tough coming into the season. I didn't think
- 9:58Speaker 1: it was gonna be this difficult. You can't go into
- 10:01Speaker 1: in this division now because of this. Now, if you
- 10:03Speaker 1: have some teams who are at the bottom of the
- 10:05Speaker 1: barrel against sloppy not playing good football, you'd be like, Okay,
- 10:08Speaker 1: let's not panic, let's not worry about this. If they
- 10:10Speaker 1: do lose, we can move on. At this point, this
- 10:13Speaker 1: is a must win game. And that's crazy that we're
- 10:15Speaker 1: talking about a must win game or a team that
- 10:17Speaker 1: is five and one. No, it's absolutely nuts. And like
- 10:19Speaker 1: you said, this is the best division in football. The numbers,
- 10:22Speaker 1: I'll say it. If the playoffs started today, there'll be
- 10:24Speaker 1: three playoff teams from the NFC West, and that's still
- 10:27Speaker 1: very especially with a new playoff format where you only
- 10:30Speaker 1: you have seven teams in there and only one team
- 10:32Speaker 1: gets the first round by it is very possible that
- 10:34Speaker 1: three teams from this division can get into the postseason.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But yeah, Bump, you mentioned it, man, I mean you
- 10:39Speaker 1: have six division games. I think the winner of this
- 10:42Speaker 1: division is probably gonna go four and two. You cannot
- 10:45Speaker 1: go under. You can't get behind. If you're owned two,
- 10:47Speaker 1: it's gonna be really hard to bounce back because now
- 10:49Speaker 1: you start thinking of tiebreakers and all these other things
- 10:52Speaker 1: down the stretch. Obviously, we can me and you can
- 10:54Speaker 1: talk about getting ahead of ourselves. That's not something the
- 10:56Speaker 1: Seaoffs will do one day when we get a time.
- 10:58Speaker 1: But looking forward, you can't have teams with the tiebreaker
- 11:02Speaker 1: over you because you can come down the later in
- 11:03Speaker 1: the year and they beat you again, then you're out
- 11:06Speaker 1: on the tiebreaker. So it's definitely something that you gotta
- 11:08Speaker 1: start quick with and you can't go on too. The
- 11:11Speaker 1: thing that scares me the most about this division is
- 11:13Speaker 1: that every team has a better defense than the Seahawks. Today,
- 11:17Speaker 1: every team has a better defense than the Seahawks. So
- 11:20Speaker 1: the Hawks gonna have to make some moves, They're gonna
- 11:22Speaker 1: have to adjust, They're gonna have to fix some things
- 11:24Speaker 1: to compete. But the thing that keeps me optimistic is
- 11:27Speaker 1: that the Seahawks have the best offense when it comes
- 11:29Speaker 1: to these teams in this division, So they are prepared
- 11:32Speaker 1: for a shootout. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but
- 11:34Speaker 1: if it does go down to a shootout, we know
- 11:36Speaker 1: that these guys will be able to get it. Domb
- 11:39Speaker 1: Jared Goff last game had another fishing but average ninety
- 11:42Speaker 1: at twenty was twenty three U thirty three twenty nineteen
- 11:45Speaker 1: yards and two touchdowns. The Rams. When I look at
- 11:49Speaker 1: the Rams, they finally have a run game that is
- 11:51Speaker 1: a big boy run game. They got some backs who
- 11:54Speaker 1: are loader, lower the shoulder, deliver a boom, and get
- 11:57Speaker 1: north and side. They still get cute with their formations
- 12:00Speaker 1: and their motions and their shifts and all that stuff.
- 12:03Speaker 1: But what I'm seeing out of this team is that
- 12:05Speaker 1: they can hand the ball off and go San Francisco
- 12:07Speaker 1: forty nine ers. Seems like whoever is their running back,
- 12:10Speaker 1: wherever their running back is, it could be monstered, it
- 12:12Speaker 1: can be Wilson who's injured now? Who had three touchdowns
- 12:15Speaker 1: the last game. It could be McKinnon coming and Tevin Coleman.
- 12:18Speaker 1: They got some guys who can get it done. So
- 12:20Speaker 1: I know Wilson is probably out for this game, but
- 12:22Speaker 1: I'm not gonna sleep on the run game. And then
- 12:25Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals, I mean, Kyler Murray looked looked at
- 12:29Speaker 1: his reason to be in the NFL. Russell Wilson looked
- 12:32Speaker 1: him eye to eye and say, you know what, I'm
- 12:34Speaker 1: gonna outperform you this game. This division gets scarier and
- 12:38Speaker 1: scarier every week. This is an important game, no question
- 12:41Speaker 1: about it. The only thing that I that I will
- 12:43Speaker 1: enjoy about this division other than when the Seahawks have
- 12:45Speaker 1: to play within it to him yet times is that
- 12:48Speaker 1: teams are gonna beat each other up. The Niners, the Cardinals,
- 12:51Speaker 1: the Rams, They're gonna beat each other ups. They're gonna
- 12:53Speaker 1: be some attrition here in the division. And as good
- 12:55Speaker 1: as the Cardinals looked on Sunday Night Football and as
- 12:58Speaker 1: good as Kyler looked, Bake are not complete yet. They're
- 13:01Speaker 1: an inconsistent team because they can play up. I mean,
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's easy to get up for the Seahawks at home.
- 13:05Speaker 1: They're undefeated, they're the best team in the league. Russell Wilson,
- 13:08Speaker 1: it's really easy to get up for that. They have
- 13:10Speaker 1: a buy. It would be interesting to see how they
- 13:12Speaker 1: respond after that when it's not The Steaks aren't as high.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And then you mentioned the Rams. It's hard to put
- 13:17Speaker 1: their finger on them. But they're starting to get going
- 13:19Speaker 1: again and they give us problems all the time. So
- 13:21Speaker 1: I mean, you can you can stay too in the face.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It's the best division in football and you're gonna have
- 13:25Speaker 1: to come with it weekend and week out. I mean, shoot,
- 13:28Speaker 1: the Niners are four and three, they're in last place.
- 13:30Speaker 1: They would have a two and a half game lead
- 13:32Speaker 1: in the NFC East right now for first, so that
- 13:34Speaker 1: just kind of gives you the rundown in the NFC West.
- 13:38Speaker 1: But now it is time to man up. Is this
- 13:44Speaker 1: man up on Hawk Talk? Man, we're gonna talk about
- 13:53Speaker 1: some matchups we're gonna focus on this week. The first one,
- 13:55Speaker 1: of course, is Jimmy Garoppolo versus the Seattle Seahawks of
- 13:58Speaker 1: defense eighty three of one, twenty four one thousand and
- 14:02Speaker 1: twelve yards, sevent tds and four interceptions. He's been sacked
- 14:05Speaker 1: eight times that means guys are getting to him. Maybe
- 14:09Speaker 1: the Hawks will get into him. Maybe this is a
- 14:10Speaker 1: game where something happens and they figure out a pass
- 14:15Speaker 1: for us. Now, he's missed two games because of an
- 14:16Speaker 1: ankle injury, so I'm not saying I've had a high
- 14:19Speaker 1: ankle sprain before. He's not one hundred percent. He might
- 14:22Speaker 1: be ninety, he might be eighty five. But there are
- 14:24Speaker 1: times in a game where you get rolled up on,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you're pushing off of that back. Lag is when it
- 14:30Speaker 1: comes to him and it starts to wear down, it
- 14:32Speaker 1: starts to get sore. He's constantly entreating him. Get after
- 14:35Speaker 1: this quarterback. He is not going to get outside the pocket.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He is not Kyler Murray. He's not going to be
- 14:40Speaker 1: special outside the pocket. He wants to stand there and
- 14:43Speaker 1: get the ball out as fast as possible. But that's
- 14:45Speaker 1: the thing I see on film, Jimmy, He's got a
- 14:47Speaker 1: quick release and he sees it and he believes it.
- 14:49Speaker 1: He lets that thing go and it's out and there hurt.
- 14:51Speaker 1: But we have the pressure this dude, oh no question
- 14:53Speaker 1: about it. And thinking about their game plan is they're
- 14:55Speaker 1: not this is a team that's gonna bombit down the
- 14:57Speaker 1: field every time, time and time again. He wants to
- 15:00Speaker 1: work inside the numbers. It's a quick release, it's the
- 15:02Speaker 1: short game stuff. It's a lot of drags and crossers,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and you know they'll they'll do a lot of fancy
- 15:07Speaker 1: emotion stuff and they'll use George Kittle, they do all
- 15:09Speaker 1: these other things. But like you said, the name of
- 15:11Speaker 1: the game is pressure on Jimmy Garoppolo. If you look
- 15:13Speaker 1: at the games that we played against them last year,
- 15:15Speaker 1: when he had time, that's when he was able to
- 15:17Speaker 1: get things going. But when game's on the line and
- 15:19Speaker 1: all the pressures there on him, if you get after him,
- 15:22Speaker 1: he gets kind of rattled. He makes some throws that
- 15:24Speaker 1: he probably shouldn't make. One of his interceptions against the Patriots,
- 15:28Speaker 1: he just throws a ball to the outside. What you
- 15:30Speaker 1: want to force him to do, throw outside the numbers,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and he kind of lets it float out there on
- 15:33Speaker 1: a faithball and it gets intercepted. So the name of
- 15:36Speaker 1: the game is get pressure on Jimmy g for sure.
- 15:39Speaker 1: And this got'd be a week where he gets held
- 15:40Speaker 1: under three hundred yards. That's in the past, our past defense.
- 15:45Speaker 1: This is where we get right in the stat sheets
- 15:48Speaker 1: here right come on another guy. You gotta look at
- 15:51Speaker 1: George Kittle versus Seahawks front seven, best tied end of
- 15:55Speaker 1: the league. I mean, you got you got Andrews in Baltimore,
- 15:58Speaker 1: who can compete Kelsey King people. But this guy is
- 16:01Speaker 1: the best tight end in the league. He's missed two games,
- 16:03Speaker 1: he still has thirty five receptions, four hundred and thirty
- 16:06Speaker 1: five yards and two touchdowns. He is one of the
- 16:09Speaker 1: few tight ends that they will isolate on the backside
- 16:12Speaker 1: of a formation. Get him mashed up with a corner
- 16:14Speaker 1: and he will still go to work. He will still
- 16:16Speaker 1: route them up. Typically you want to get a mashup
- 16:19Speaker 1: on a safety, drag him across the field, which he does.
- 16:22Speaker 1: He does that as well. But you can line him
- 16:24Speaker 1: up as a receiver and he's good enough to get open.
- 16:28Speaker 1: He's big, he's fast, he still has great hips, he
- 16:31Speaker 1: has good routes. He's the complete tight end. He does
- 16:34Speaker 1: it in everything. Like you said, it's very rare that
- 16:36Speaker 1: you have a tight end and it's not just a
- 16:38Speaker 1: thrower route. They put him out there to isolate him, saying, hey,
- 16:40Speaker 1: we want to get him the ball, and they'll bring
- 16:42Speaker 1: him inside and he's a monster in the run game. Dude.
- 16:45Speaker 1: He I don't care if you're a defensive end, you're
- 16:46Speaker 1: a linebacker, he gets hands on you, it's a bad day.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And George Kittle best tight end in the game, He's
- 16:52Speaker 1: definitely made a problem. You're gonna need to know where
- 16:53Speaker 1: that guy is every single play. Now. It's the running
- 16:57Speaker 1: game for the forty nine years, and typically we would
- 16:59Speaker 1: have some one specifically to watch for. But here's what
- 17:01Speaker 1: we know. Socking me Mostert not gonna be Tevin Coleman,
- 17:05Speaker 1: not gonna be Jeff Wilson Junior. After a great performance
- 17:08Speaker 1: three touchdowns last week. So when you go back and
- 17:10Speaker 1: look at the film, he was replaced by Combo and
- 17:13Speaker 1: Jamichael Hasy Jeric McKinnon and they use the use check
- 17:16Speaker 1: a little bit. So for me, this is a key
- 17:18Speaker 1: matchup because you mentioned it earlier. Doesn't really seem like
- 17:21Speaker 1: it matters who's running the ball for them they have
- 17:23Speaker 1: in that offense. It seems like everyone gets to eat
- 17:26Speaker 1: a little bit. So this is a game where I
- 17:29Speaker 1: don't care who's running the ball. They can't. They can't
- 17:30Speaker 1: get off in this game. They need It's got to
- 17:32Speaker 1: be something where they kind of they started that a
- 17:35Speaker 1: little bit last week. I think the final numbers didn't
- 17:37Speaker 1: really do it justice because they held Kenny on Drake
- 17:39Speaker 1: in check pretty much all game until the very end.
- 17:42Speaker 1: So they need to build off what they did last week.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And because if you if you sow down this running
- 17:47Speaker 1: game and you make Jimmy Garoppolo have to throw the
- 17:49Speaker 1: ball time and time again to make them one dimensional,
- 17:51Speaker 1: it's gonna be a good day for the Seahawks defense.
- 17:53Speaker 1: It is going to be a good day. This offense
- 17:55Speaker 1: is a deception offense. They're going to motion guys over
- 18:00Speaker 1: have you should block the backside half Kittle release. They're
- 18:03Speaker 1: trying to expand the middle of the defense. Sold these
- 18:06Speaker 1: running backs can go to work. You have to be disciplined.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Next matchup. Fred Warner verse her body. This dude can play.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Man ranks among the top five according in PFF when
- 18:17Speaker 1: it comes to linebacker grades. Fifty seven tackles, three pass breakups,
- 18:21Speaker 1: two interceptions on the year. Had one last week against
- 18:25Speaker 1: the New England Patriots. I watched that film and broke
- 18:28Speaker 1: it down. This guy reads the run, drops into his zone,
- 18:33Speaker 1: fills the crosser coming across, flips his hips, gets the
- 18:36Speaker 1: eyes on the quarterback, I'm like, you're not paid to
- 18:38Speaker 1: do this, You're paid to make tackles. Yet he still
- 18:41Speaker 1: looks athletic in space. You have to know where he
- 18:44Speaker 1: is at all times, oh, no question about. And he's
- 18:46Speaker 1: definitely one of the best linebackers in the NFL when
- 18:49Speaker 1: it comes to pass defense. You know, typically when we
- 18:51Speaker 1: think of past defense, we think of our own, we
- 18:52Speaker 1: think of number fifty four. We think of someone who
- 18:54Speaker 1: can run, who can flip his hips and get back
- 18:56Speaker 1: Fred Warner. It's only a third year. I believe he's
- 18:58Speaker 1: drafted in twenty eighteen. Had to be yu and the
- 19:00Speaker 1: dude can play. And we got to learn a little
- 19:02Speaker 1: bit about that last year because last year he bawled out.
- 19:04Speaker 1: In that first game, he had ten tackles, two sacks,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and force fumble. So you're gonna need to know where
- 19:09Speaker 1: he is on the field for every every snap because
- 19:11Speaker 1: similar to last week where we need to know where
- 19:13Speaker 1: Buddha was, right, this is that type of player and
- 19:16Speaker 1: you need to know where he's ad on every snap,
- 19:17Speaker 1: especially coming off of our game last week. They do
- 19:20Speaker 1: any kind of deception stuff. He's a guy you got
- 19:21Speaker 1: to count for another matchup. Good old Russell Wilson versus
- 19:26Speaker 1: of forty nine ers defense. Russell's one fifty six for
- 19:29Speaker 1: two nineteen eighteen hundred yards, twenty two touchdowns, which leads
- 19:32Speaker 1: the league, six interceptions, twenty nine carries for three hundred
- 19:36Speaker 1: excuse me, two hundred and thirty seven yards. We saw
- 19:38Speaker 1: him get loose last week with his legs. He still
- 19:40Speaker 1: got some juice left. I was surprised with how quick
- 19:43Speaker 1: the old man not old. I guess he's a middle
- 19:45Speaker 1: aged man NFL now how the middle aged man looked.
- 19:48Speaker 1: But to me, he's still the MVP of the league.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He's still leading the chart, and every quarterback is allowed
- 19:54Speaker 1: that game. We got that game out the way, the
- 19:57Speaker 1: turnover game, the three interceptions, d poor decision making towards
- 20:01Speaker 1: the end of the game. We got that game out
- 20:02Speaker 1: the way. Now it's time for him to bounce back,
- 20:05Speaker 1: and I think he's capable, Oh, no question about it.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I mean, Russell Wilson is thirty one and eight following
- 20:10Speaker 1: a loss, and that's the best record by a quarterback
- 20:13Speaker 1: since the nineteen seventy Mergers. So coming off a loss,
- 20:16Speaker 1: there's no one I'd rather have the number three quarterback
- 20:19Speaker 1: in And you could kind of telling his voice after
- 20:21Speaker 1: in the postgame show he was there, or in his
- 20:23Speaker 1: postgame in press conference. You can tell the loss. That's STU.
- 20:27Speaker 1: That stung. It's tongue a lot. And he was like, no,
- 20:29Speaker 1: those were on me. He didn't have he didn't pass
- 20:31Speaker 1: blamed anyone else. He didn't say no, So and So
- 20:33Speaker 1: didn't come this or I thought DK was going to
- 20:36Speaker 1: come back to the ball, this and that. He said, no,
- 20:37Speaker 1: all those are on me. And you know he's gonna
- 20:39Speaker 1: come with it this week. And I mean, I think
- 20:41Speaker 1: Russ is just we know how good he is. He's,
- 20:43Speaker 1: like you said, still the MVP of the league. He's
- 20:45Speaker 1: still almost breaking records every single week. Needs one more
- 20:48Speaker 1: win to Typeyton Manning for first place in the NFL's
- 20:50Speaker 1: all time winning his quarterbacks in the first nine seasons.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Needs five tds to pass Tom Brady for most touchdown
- 20:56Speaker 1: passes open his season twenty seven. So the dude is
- 20:59Speaker 1: still on pace to do all of those things. He's
- 21:01Speaker 1: still the best quarterback in the league. We need a
- 21:04Speaker 1: big bounce back game for him. And if you're the Niners,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I would be scared because Number three coming up a
- 21:08Speaker 1: loss is a scary sight. Number three. He's gonna bounce
- 21:12Speaker 1: back if firmly believe that, and I think they'll be
- 21:14Speaker 1: able to get this win. Now, the forty nine ers
- 21:16Speaker 1: have a strong defense, breaking fifth and scoring defense third
- 21:18Speaker 1: and past defense. Something has to give. As the Seahawks
- 21:22Speaker 1: present the number one offense in terms of yardage and points,
- 21:26Speaker 1: they just have to do what they've been doing. Now
- 21:28Speaker 1: we talked about Russell having a I wouldn't even call
- 21:31Speaker 1: it a horrible game. He just made three mistakes. You
- 21:33Speaker 1: look at the stats. Dude, still have a good game
- 21:35Speaker 1: still through through three touchdowns. But they're gonna like to
- 21:39Speaker 1: scoreboard up all They needs a couple of songs from
- 21:41Speaker 1: that defense. Russell's gonna do the same. DK's gonna ball out.
- 21:44Speaker 1: What's another matchup we're looking at. You mentioned it the receivers,
- 21:47Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf versus secondary. Now we've been saying
- 21:52Speaker 1: this all year. I'll continue to beat this drum. This
- 21:54Speaker 1: is the best tannem in the NFL. Okay Lockett in
- 21:57Speaker 1: Metcalf rank nine and eleven, respective leaders heaving yards in
- 22:00Speaker 1: the NFL. No other team has two receivers in the
- 22:04Speaker 1: top fifteen. Tyler Lockett leads the league in touchdowns with seven.
- 22:07Speaker 1: DK Metcalf is tied for fifth with five. And the
- 22:10Speaker 1: thing about it is pick your poison. He saw it
- 22:12Speaker 1: last week if they the Cardinals made an effort to
- 22:15Speaker 1: take away DK Metcalf. Okay, so what happened Tyler Lockett
- 22:18Speaker 1: had one of the best games Enfranchise history. So it's
- 22:22Speaker 1: something that you can't shut them both down. It's just
- 22:24Speaker 1: it's impossible to shut them both down. So I think
- 22:27Speaker 1: these two are gonna get loose in the secondary. And
- 22:29Speaker 1: I think the forty nine ers numbers in terms of
- 22:31Speaker 1: where they rank defensively is gonna take a hit this
- 22:34Speaker 1: week with these two. It's gonna take a hit. One
- 22:36Speaker 1: of these guys is gonna go for over one hundred,
- 22:38Speaker 1: hopefully both of them go for over one hundred and
- 22:40Speaker 1: a couple of touchdowns. Also, we didn't mention this in
- 22:43Speaker 1: the matches, but I love what happened last week with
- 22:46Speaker 1: the tight ends. Every tight end, every tight end who
- 22:49Speaker 1: suited up had two receptions. Greg had two, Disley had two,
- 22:52Speaker 1: Jacob Hollister had two. That's another dimension that I wanted
- 22:56Speaker 1: to see them add to their offense. And it's starting
- 22:58Speaker 1: to get going. So that is encouraging. So now we
- 23:02Speaker 1: talked about the matchups. Here is the path to victory.
- 23:08Speaker 1: After forty five waits for the staff, Michael Vickton puts
- 23:11Speaker 1: it down. That kick is away. If that kicks, it's gun.
- 23:17Speaker 1: It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk after victory.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Number one, pressure on Jimmy G. You cannot have a
- 23:26Speaker 1: repeat performance like against Arizona Colonels. No sacks, no pressures.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Kyla Murray's back there making a sandwich in a kitchen.
- 23:34Speaker 1: You see that play where he looked at Hopkins, manned
- 23:37Speaker 1: up and smiled before he threw the football. Like this
- 23:40Speaker 1: dude was so relaxed in the pocket, nothing to worry about, smiling,
- 23:44Speaker 1: tossing dimes. You gotta make Jimmy G have to move
- 23:48Speaker 1: in that pocket. He's not a mobile guy. He's not
- 23:50Speaker 1: a statue either. I mean he does have I guess,
- 23:53Speaker 1: some good footwork, but he's not a guy who's gonna
- 23:55Speaker 1: get out the outside the pocket and hurt. You get
- 23:57Speaker 1: after Jimmy G. D line. This is the week where
- 24:00Speaker 1: you get your sacks up. Oh, no question about it.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Jaron Reid, Puna Ford Benson Mayowa. If Rasheem Green comes back,
- 24:07Speaker 1: you guys need to get after it this week, especially
- 24:09Speaker 1: because you mentioned it coming off an ankle injury. If
- 24:11Speaker 1: you get pressure on him all game long and he
- 24:13Speaker 1: has to throw off his back foot, you have to
- 24:14Speaker 1: throw off an injured ankle. I know it's been a
- 24:16Speaker 1: couple of weeks, but you're still you're still thinking about it.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So maybe you kind of start to throw off your
- 24:20Speaker 1: back foot and your mechanics get off and that's when
- 24:22Speaker 1: you start making plays. And again, despite the yardage our
- 24:27Speaker 1: defense is given up, they've been creating turnovers. That's the
- 24:29Speaker 1: one thing that they've done really well this season is
- 24:31Speaker 1: create turnovers. And it starts up front with the D line.
- 24:34Speaker 1: If they can get pressure on him, then I look
- 24:36Speaker 1: for Shaquille Griffin, Quentin Dunbar, Quandre Diggs, Ryan Neil, those
- 24:40Speaker 1: guys that make a couple of plays in the secondary.
- 24:42Speaker 1: They got to keep under four hundred yards nass. Seems
- 24:45Speaker 1: like everybody goes over the four hundred yard mark against
- 24:47Speaker 1: this defense. This is the week, am I I'm just
- 24:51Speaker 1: an optimistic guy. I see the improvements. I feel like
- 24:55Speaker 1: they're getting closed. I feel like they're one or two
- 24:58Speaker 1: moves away. Low Keep might have made one or two
- 25:01Speaker 1: moves already. Well that's for another another podcast. But I
- 25:04Speaker 1: feel like they're getting close. I know it is disheartening
- 25:07Speaker 1: and disappointing for twelves to look at how much time
- 25:11Speaker 1: these quarterbacks have and how they're throwing the ball down
- 25:13Speaker 1: the field and how there are big plays out there.
- 25:15Speaker 1: But these coaches are looking at this film. These players
- 25:18Speaker 1: are looking at this film. They're not ignoring their strengths
- 25:22Speaker 1: and weaknesses. They're going to work on things, but rule
- 25:24Speaker 1: number one, keep them under four hundred yards. If they
- 25:27Speaker 1: do that, we know the offense is going to get
- 25:29Speaker 1: over four hundred yards and they'll take care of business.
- 25:31Speaker 1: You keep on the a four hundred yards. You're winning
- 25:33Speaker 1: this game by fourteen plus. I mean straight up, because
- 25:36Speaker 1: I do not think that the Niners can stop the
- 25:38Speaker 1: Seahawks offensively. If that happens to Seahawks stopped themselves. There's
- 25:42Speaker 1: just too many good athletes on defense. There's just too
- 25:45Speaker 1: many of them. Bobby Wagner is too good, Kaja writes
- 25:47Speaker 1: too good, Killed Griffin's too good, Quadri Digs is too good.
- 25:49Speaker 1: There's too many guys on that side of the ball
- 25:52Speaker 1: for us to be given up this many yards and
- 25:54Speaker 1: it starts up front, and like you said, being an optimist,
- 25:57Speaker 1: at some point everything comes together. It right, because you
- 26:01Speaker 1: can have ten guys on every play do exactly what
- 26:03Speaker 1: they're supposed to do, and you can get beat on
- 26:06Speaker 1: every single play and give up five hundred yards because
- 26:08Speaker 1: it's always one guy doing something here, it's one guy
- 26:10Speaker 1: doing something there. So they got put it all together,
- 26:13Speaker 1: all eleven guys hold them utter four hundred yards. Can
- 26:16Speaker 1: we get off the field on third down? Please? Get
- 26:18Speaker 1: off the field on third down? Avoid the penalties. Last game,
- 26:21Speaker 1: it was like it felt like they were close, but
- 26:23Speaker 1: then something would happen. A guy would jump off sides
- 26:26Speaker 1: unnecessary roughness, called his bobby, which was ridiculous. What happened.
- 26:30Speaker 1: It's all about that third down again. I feel like
- 26:33Speaker 1: they're getting closer. Get off the field on third downs,
- 26:35Speaker 1: avoid the big penalty and of course bump, don't miss
- 26:39Speaker 1: another opportunity. It's about owning the NFC West. There are
- 26:42Speaker 1: signs in the building that's what they need to do.
- 26:45Speaker 1: You cannot start oh into in the division. If you
- 26:48Speaker 1: want to get to where you want to get to
- 26:50Speaker 1: in February, it starts within this division. They got to
- 26:53Speaker 1: take care of Business. Russell bounced back in the biggest way,
- 26:57Speaker 1: simple as that you did. You had a decent game,
- 27:00Speaker 1: did throw three interceptions? That's not gonna happen again this year.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I can almost guarantee that, folks, has been a few
- 27:06Speaker 1: years since it happened. Absolutely bumping, Let's not forget. Join
- 27:10Speaker 1: us each Thursday from noon to two for the Huddle,
- 27:12Speaker 1: hosted by Tom Jake and stay sylong with Seahawks color
- 27:15Speaker 1: analyst State Woman. It's your chance to hear directly from
- 27:17Speaker 1: Seahawks players as they prepare for Sunday and preview the
- 27:20Speaker 1: game ahead with the voice of the Seahawks Steve Ravel
- 27:23Speaker 1: and Ray Roberts. Bump. Come on now, own that n
- 27:25Speaker 1: FC West. Let's go six and one. Let's go six
- 27:28Speaker 1: and one. Let's go five hundred and NFC West. That
- 27:32Speaker 1: is Hawk Talk Preview Edition Week eight. The Seahawks are
- 27:35Speaker 1: coming back home. The forty nine ers are coming into town.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Let's get it done. I'm Michael Bumps, He's Nasa Choby
- 27:40Speaker 1: holl Light y'all. Next time,
