- 0:00SPEAKER_00: If your colonoscopy found polyps, your doctor probably removed them and told you they're common.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: We'll keep an eye on you and check again next time.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: And that's exactly where things go terribly wrong.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Because your doctor sees a polyp as something to remove and then let you go on with your life.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: But a polyp is a warning.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: And if you walk away thinking the polyps are gone, problem solved, you're ignoring the most important thing that your colonoscopy just told you.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: And that can mean that the real problem keeps getting worse while everyone waits for the next colonoscopy to see what new damage has been done.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Embro Kane, registered nurse and functional medicine practitioner, and I'm gonna show you what those polyps are actually warning you about and what you need to do so that you're not just waiting around for the next one to show up.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Here's the problem doctors are trained to look at the polyp itself.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Is it there?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: What kind is it?
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Can we remove it?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Good, done.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: But the polyp didn't come from nowhere.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It didn't just magically parachute into your intestines the night before.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Something was happening inside the colon long before the camera ever found it.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And if you never figure out what that was, you can remove the evidence and you can leave the cause still sitting there.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: That's why I think the whole we got the polyp, see you in five years conversation is actually insane.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Because what if your body was warning you that something in your gut had been going wrong for years?
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: What if the polyp was not really the problem?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: What if it was the smoke alarm?
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Pulling out the battery of a smoke alarm makes the noise stop.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: It does not put out the fire.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: There's a reason that doctors remove polyps.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Some polyps can become dangerous over time.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: So when they find one during a colonoscopy, they take it out and send it to pathology.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: The problem is what happens next.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: If the pathology comes back okay, the conversation usually becomes great, we got it, come back in a few years.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And that's where conventional medicine and I completely part ways because the thing they found is so bad that they decided to cut it out of you, but they never uncover why it was there in the first place.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And without that answer, you can end up just like one of my clients.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: This woman came to me with severe, constant diarrhea.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: She was not having an occasional bad stomach day.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: She was running to the bathroom all day long.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: She had urgency cramping, no idea when it was gonna hit.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: She'd already done the right thing.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: She went to the GI doctor, had her colonoscopy, they found some polyps, they removed them.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And beyond that, she was basically told everything looks fine.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Think about how ridiculous that is.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Your gut is controlling your entire life.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: You can't trust yourself to go anywhere without knowing where the bathroom is.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: You're having diarrhea every day.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: But the camera didn't find anything dramatic, so apparently everything's fine.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: We ran the kind of testing that I use with my clients, and this is where the story completely changed.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Her proteus was extremely high.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Her fusobacterium was also extremely high, her calprotectin was elevated, her beta-glucaronidase was elevated.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Now you don't need to know what all of those words mean yet, but just look at the test.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Look at all that red.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Does that look normal to you?
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Because this woman did not have a normal gut.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: She had a colon that had been under serious stress for a long time.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: And suddenly the polyps were not some random little thing that happened to show up on a camera.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: They were one more sign that something had been going wrong underneath.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: So now we have a much more important question.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: How can a colonoscopy tell you everything looks fine when your gut looks like this?
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Because a colonoscopy is looking for a completely different kind of problem.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: It's a camera.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: It can see a polyp, it can see a tumor, it can see an ulcer, it can see bleeding or obvious damage.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: These things can be useful, but your gut's not just what somebody can see with a camera.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: There are trillions of organisms living in there.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Some help you, some can become a huge problem and they take over.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: There are chemicals being produced, waste that needs to get cleared, immune activity, and a whole system that's supposed to stay in balance.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: A colonoscopy sees none of that.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So when your doctor says your colonoscopy was normal, what they really mean is we didn't see the structural disease that we're looking for.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: That does not mean that your gut is healthy.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: That is how women end up with a normal colonoscopy in one hand and a modium in the other, because they still cannot stop having diarrhea.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: The camera says normal, their body says absolutely not.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: And this is where the polyp becomes so important because now your body has actually given you something visible.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Something changed enough that your doctor could finally see it.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: And instead of asking what led to that change, they cut it out and send you home.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: This is where we finally get to the fire.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: The inside of your colon is living tissue, and that tissue is affected every single day by what's happening inside your gut.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: If the gut's healthy, that tissue is living in a pretty calm environment.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: But if the wrong bacteria start taking over, if inflammation keeps building, the gut's not clearing waste, if the protective bacteria are gone, that colon can spend years getting irritated over and over again.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Your colon is being exposed to whatever is going on inside your gut every single day.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: And if that environment has been a mess for years, eventually your body starts showing you signs.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: For some women, that sign is chronic diarrhea.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: For some, it's urgency and cramping.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: For some, it's inflammation.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: And sometimes the camera finally sees a polyp.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: That is why I call it a warning.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Your body is telling you to stop looking at the surface and figure out what's been going on underneath.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Now, this is where I want some of you to pay very close attention.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: If your colonoscopy found a polyp during a routine screening and you otherwise feel fantastic, that's one thing.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: But if you had polyps removed and you're also dealing with chronic diarrhea, urgency cramping, bloating, someone told you you have IBS, I would not brush that off because now your body's giving you multiple warnings.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: You have symptoms every day, your colonoscopy found tissue changes, and somehow those two things get treated like they have nothing to do with each other.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: The diarrhea gets called IBS, the polyp gets removed, but you're handed a modium and told to change your diet.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Then everyone waits.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: For what?
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: The next polyp?
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: More inflammation, a worse colonoscopy five years from now?
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: That makes no sense to me.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: If your smoke alarm goes off, you don't wait five years to see whether another room catches on fire.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: You figure out why the alarm went off.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: This is why the testing I do looks completely different.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: I want to know what is actually happening in your gut.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Are harmful bacteria taking over?
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Are the bacteria that protect your colon disappearing?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Is there yeast or fungus, parasites?
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Is there inflammation?
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Is your body getting rid of waste properly?
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Or is it recycling things that should be leaving?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Those are the questions that start explaining the story.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: And this is exactly what happened with the women I showed you.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Her colonoscopy gave us one piece of information.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: The deeper testing showed us why her gut was screaming for help.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Once we saw that, the diarrhea was not mysterious anymore.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: The inflammation was no longer a mystery, and the polyps did not look random anymore.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: They fit the bigger picture.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: This is the part I really want you to understand.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: The standard plan after polyps are removed is surveillance.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Come back in a few years, we'll look again.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: But what are we actually doing during those years to change the reason they formed in the first place?
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Usually nothing.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: We're just waiting to see what happens.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: That's not prevention, that's watching.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And I do not want to watch your gut get worse.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: I want to change what is happening now.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Because if there's inflammation, we want to deal with it.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: If something harmful has taken over the gut, find it.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: If your gut has lost the bacteria that are supposed to protect it, rebuild them.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: If your body's not clearing things properly, figure out why.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Do not wait until the next camera finds the next problem.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: If your colonoscopy found polyps, especially if you also have diarrhea, cramping, bloating, or you've been told you have IBS, I would not just wait five years.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: You already knew something was wrong.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Your gut has probably been telling you that for a long time.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Now your colonoscopy gave you another clue.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: A polyp showed up.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: And instead of asking why, your doctor removed it and moved on.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: So this is where you stop guessing and you actually look at what's happening inside your gut.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Earlier, I showed you one of my clients' test results.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: That is the kind of testing that I'm talking about.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Not just another camera, not another basic stool test that says everything's fine.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: I want to see what's actually living in there, what's inflamed, what is missing, what's keeping that gut so unhealthy.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Because once you have the right data, you can finally stop treating the polyp like some random thing that happened to you and start addressing the reason it happened.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: If you've had polyps removed and nobody explained why they were there, especially if your digestion is a mess, reach out to me.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: We can run the proper testing, look at what your doctor never looked at, and figure out what is actually going on in there before you spend the next several years waiting for another colonoscopy.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: And if you've had the colonoscopy, blood work, stool tests, everything keeps telling you that everything looks normal while you still know something is wrong.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Watch this next video.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: I'll show you why those tests keep missing what's actually happening inside your gut.
