Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Donald Trump will become president of the United States in
- 0:02Speaker 1: just over twenty four hours for the second time. He's
- 0:05Speaker 1: promised a speedy start to his second term, saying he
- 0:08Speaker 1: will conduct one hundred executive orders on day one. Immigration
- 0:12Speaker 1: issues will be one to watch, as well how he
- 0:15Speaker 1: plans to resolve the possible shutdown of TikTok in the States.
- 0:18Speaker 1: He'll be taking the oath of office inside the capital
- 0:21Speaker 1: for the first time in decades. Is dangerously cold weather
- 0:23Speaker 1: hits Washington, DC. Joining me now is Matt Terrell, the
- 0:27Speaker 1: managing partner at Firehouse Strategies and Marco Rubio's former chief
- 0:31Speaker 1: of staff.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Thanks for being with us, Matt, Hey, I great to
- 0:35Speaker 2: be with you.
- 0:36Speaker 1: What are you expecting to see tomorrow?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Well, look, I think he's going to give a speech
- 0:41Speaker 2: for to be very honest about what he tens to do,
- 0:44Speaker 2: not just on day one of his presidency, but for
- 0:47Speaker 2: all four years of his presidency. And I say that
- 0:49Speaker 2: because throughout the campaign, who's very honest and transparent about
- 0:52Speaker 2: what he would do if elected. He's been elected and
- 0:55Speaker 2: he'll be sworn in soon here as the next president.
- 0:58Speaker 2: So look, I think it's going to be a speech
- 0:59Speaker 2: tomorrow that's going to outline his agenda, particularly on the border, inflation,
- 1:03Speaker 2: the economy, a lot of the foreign policy aspects we're
- 1:06Speaker 2: facing both as a nation as a world. And then
- 1:09Speaker 2: from there it's not just talkus in the action. You know,
- 1:11Speaker 2: it supposedly has about one hundred executive orders lined up
- 1:14Speaker 2: that I don't think he's going to wait to get
- 1:16Speaker 2: to the White House to sign. I think you're gonna
- 1:18Speaker 2: likely to see him tomorrow immediately after his speech, go
- 1:21Speaker 2: right there in the Capitol and start signing the executive
- 1:23Speaker 2: executive orders, particularly relates to border security, immigration, among other
- 1:28Speaker 2: key policies as well.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah, what are some of those significant moves that he
- 1:31Speaker 1: might make on day one that Americans keeping an eye on.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Well, particularly on border security. I think you're going to
- 1:38Speaker 2: see him gig action on that on day one, namely
- 1:41Speaker 2: relates just starting with the deportation of people been hearing
- 1:47Speaker 2: the country illegally, but namely starting with people who've been
- 1:49Speaker 2: in the country illegally who've committed violent crimes. I think
- 1:52Speaker 2: you're going to see him start there, and then beyond
- 1:55Speaker 2: that many other domestic priorities as well, for example, on
- 1:59Speaker 2: energy and drilling, you're going to see him take immediate
- 2:01Speaker 2: action on that. So a lot of these things are
- 2:03Speaker 2: going to see on day one through executive orders, but
- 2:05Speaker 2: some of his again it certainly needs a wait to have,
- 2:09Speaker 2: you know, action taken on Capitol Hill. There's legislation. I
- 2:12Speaker 2: think we're going to see there is one big bill
- 2:15Speaker 2: that he's to be working on with Congress. As include
- 2:17Speaker 2: a lot of the key domestic policies, particulars of release,
- 2:20Speaker 2: their tax relief, and of the key policies he campaigned on.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And honestly, these other things are gonna be taking shape
- 2:25Speaker 2: here as well in the foreign policy stage, particular relays
- 2:27Speaker 2: to Ukraine Russia. Obviously we've seen him already play a
- 2:30Speaker 2: major role defining role on the initial phase one here
- 2:35Speaker 2: ceasefire and the hostage dynamics that have taken place between
- 2:38Speaker 2: Israel and Hamas. So look, these are all things that
- 2:41Speaker 2: are in motion here. I think a lot of it
- 2:43Speaker 2: doesn't take place tomorrow, with a lot of the executive
- 2:45Speaker 2: orders and of course working with Congress on a lot
- 2:47Speaker 2: of key legislative activities as well, because.
- 2:49Speaker 1: He has promised a lot, Matt, But do you get
- 2:50Speaker 1: the feeling that they are prepared and ready to go?
- 2:55Speaker 2: Absolutely Look, this is a far smoother transition than what
- 2:59Speaker 2: you saw with his first transition when he was first
- 3:01Speaker 2: elected president in his first term. And look, you keep,
- 3:05Speaker 2: people like Susie Wilds and others have been really driving
- 3:08Speaker 2: this transition team. You know, I think it was smart,
- 3:10Speaker 2: frankly for him to announce his team, particularly nominees for
- 3:14Speaker 2: his candidate positions early on. He did that weeks ago.
- 3:17Speaker 2: In many cases, I think there was a smart move. Clearly,
- 3:20Speaker 2: they are ready to go. They are prepared for this.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You know, he has been working through and through I
- 3:25Speaker 2: believe on this transition. They are ready to go starting
- 3:28Speaker 2: tomorrow day one. With these executive orders, There's no question
- 3:31Speaker 2: about that. But these are relates to things that he
- 3:33Speaker 2: campaigned on. And you're right, Look, he needs to now deliver,
- 3:36Speaker 2: and he really the first one hundred days of his
- 3:38Speaker 2: administration are you know, every day matters in his administration,
- 3:41Speaker 2: but the first one hundred days are really a unique
- 3:42Speaker 2: window to deliver for the American people a lot you know, well,
- 3:46Speaker 2: of our seventy million Americans that have voted for him,
- 3:49Speaker 2: they voted for mcause they want to change on the economy,
- 3:51Speaker 2: change on the inflation, border security, among other big parties
- 3:55Speaker 2: that they had in mind when they voted for him.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Now he needs to deliver.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Matt Maco Rubio has been picked a Secretary of State.
- 4:01Speaker 1: What are you expecting from him in that role?
- 4:04Speaker 2: Well, look, first of all, I think it's a great choice.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I don't think there's anyone who's been more prepared to
- 4:09Speaker 2: be the center of faith than Marco Rubio. This is
- 4:11Speaker 2: someone who served on the Senate Form Relations Committee, sent
- 4:14Speaker 2: an Intel Committee. He has spent a great deal of
- 4:17Speaker 2: time building relationships with leaders on the foreign policy stage,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and he knows these issues that the United States and
- 4:23Speaker 2: world are facing right now. Is relates to China policy,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you know, he knows issues and priorities that released to Ukraine, Russia,
- 4:30Speaker 2: another key foreign policy dynamics taking place here. So look,
- 4:32Speaker 2: this is a very different world that President elect Trump
- 4:35Speaker 2: is entering with respect to his term here in comparison
- 4:39Speaker 2: to the world that he entered during his first term,
- 4:41Speaker 2: and particular relates to a lot of the new policies
- 4:44Speaker 2: and initiatives taking shape here and dynamics taking place in
- 4:47Speaker 2: the foreign policy stage. But it's also picking up I
- 4:49Speaker 2: think where President Trump left off in his first term.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I think to see him do that with Abraham Accords.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I think going to see him go back to maximum
- 4:57Speaker 2: pressure with Iran. So I think we'll see some new
- 4:59Speaker 2: policies rolled out with his foreign policy team, and I
- 5:01Speaker 2: certainly started Rubio we playing an instrumental role in that
- 5:04Speaker 2: as the next Secretary of State. But again I think
- 5:06Speaker 2: a lot of this to be picking up war President
- 5:07Speaker 2: Trump left off in his first term as well on
- 5:09Speaker 2: the foreign policy stage.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Matt, thank you so much for your time today. That
- 5:12Speaker 1: was Matt Terrell, the managing director at Firehouse Strategies and
- 5:16Speaker 1: Marco Rubio is a former.
