- 0:00Things that you kind of take for granted and if they're going for
- 0:03more of that realistic feel, these things seem like
- 0:05self-evident to me. Well, we are getting lamps.
- 0:12Oh. So all right, that requires all.
- 0:15Right. Yeah, take it away with lamps
- 0:17only open. thing is though, now that you say that, I can't see
- 0:28it. You're absolutely right.
- 0:30Let's let's talk about that first, because I was going to go
- 0:32in a totally. Different direction.
- 0:34You can make as much money as you need and work your way
- 0:37towards any ship in the game. They they were trying to cash in
- 0:41off of that nostalgia and that hype.
- 0:46So who was Rick Moranis character in Ghostbusters the
- 0:49original 1984? Oh goodness, what was the what
- 0:53was the his name? Yeah, What was his name?
- 0:57Was he the scientist? Was he like a ghost scientist or
- 1:01something? I don't actually I I got the
- 1:05name here but I can't remember like what his character did,
- 1:08like who his character was. It was Rick Mcgosty, Man
- 1:14Moranis. Louis Tully.
- 1:18Louis Tully. Oh, OK.
- 1:20Who was that originally written for?
- 1:22That's that's a fun trivia question.
- 1:24Who was Mick? Rick Moranis, His role in the
- 1:26original Ghostbusters, originally written for Yeah.
- 1:33This could be anyone honestly, but it's a great.
- 1:35Carlin. Nope.
- 1:37Oh, what the guys like hey everybody, we're swimming naked
- 1:43or whatever you feel from Caddyshack.
- 1:45Hey, you're. Actually, not far off.
- 1:49Another Canadian comedian, Ryan Reynolds.
- 1:53Kind of heavyset. Oh, not Ryan Reynolds.
- 1:58Seth Rogen. No, but this is way before Seth
- 2:02Rogen's time. Like blasting.
- 2:03Rain. I don't know.
- 2:06He was Co star in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
- 2:11Oh, the big dude. I don't know his name.
- 2:15OK, he was also barf in Spaceballs.
- 2:18Yeah, I don't. I don't know his name.
- 2:19I know who it is. John Candy.
- 2:21John Candy. Rest in peace.
- 2:25Rest in peace, John Candy. If only you could live to see
- 2:29today when there's fire officially in Star Citizen.
- 2:35He'd love it. Welcome Ghost of John Candy to
- 2:38open Comms Radio, your Star Citizen call in show and today
- 2:42we have a good one for you because my Co host today is
- 2:45Cosmic Kobo. Hey, it's me.
- 2:51Cosmic, you've been playing PTUI?
- 2:54Got it running right now. You got it running right now and
- 2:58you're about to blow up an Idris, I believe.
- 3:01Yeah, it's mostly dead. I think Caddo oil is trying to
- 3:05get away with it, but I blew up most of the components.
- 3:11What? What did you use to blow up the
- 3:12address if I may ask? Well, I first started with a
- 3:15Perseus and the size 8 guns just tread like they do massive
- 3:23amounts of penetration and damage to components and that's
- 3:26a big deal now. And now I'm sitting in the
- 3:28Vanguard Harbinger that I have in my hanger for some reason I
- 3:32don't own one, don't know, but using that and it's got
- 3:36Ballistics. Ballistics are back, baby.
- 3:40That may be huge. Cannons, like ballistic cannons
- 3:46in particular, big deal. Even laser cannons are going to
- 3:49be big, big again. It's just really, yeah, it's,
- 3:52it's the way they hit harder, especially on bigger ships,
- 3:57you're going to want to use cannons.
- 4:00And they change the projectile speeds to make them faster too,
- 4:04so it's really cool. But yeah, So what if I'm?
- 4:07What if I'm using attritions and I'm firing on like a fighter or
- 4:12something or my attrition still going to work against like a
- 4:14Hornet versus Hornet? Probably I I haven't, I haven't
- 4:20sat. I was talking, we were talking
- 4:22to Autumn earlier and we all like everyone was going through
- 4:27the different stats and all that.
- 4:29And it sounds like at least from her analysis, that's cannons are
- 4:35back, even laser cannons, not just the list.
- 4:38Oh well, Ballistics are awesome now.
- 4:40Like they're they're great again.
- 4:45Ballistics are great again, finally.
- 4:49Oh jumped away. Well done.
- 4:50Yeah, well done, Chris Roberts. But that's not the only news
- 4:55from the PTU. There's some a little more
- 4:58interesting. And I asked you what should this
- 5:00week's question be? And you said?
- 5:04I wanted to talk about engineering.
- 5:07So engineering does he work for game changer?
- 5:10I, I I I clearly already have a bias to this question because
- 5:13I'm saying the latter. It's a game changer.
- 5:16Oh well. Former would be the first and
- 5:21ladder would be the the later one.
- 5:24So why is it a game changer there?
- 5:26A cosmic hobo. Well probably the biggest thing
- 5:29is regarding multi cruise ships and everyone knew they were
- 5:33going to want you to have more crew for your multi crew.
- 5:39Fire extinguishers. Fire extinguishers like that,
- 5:42they are your engineers. Engineers are going to be in
- 5:45high demand the next few months because these people need to
- 5:50learn the layout of ships, where components are, where fire
- 5:55extinguishers are, where the engineering terminals are, and
- 5:59how to operate said engineering terminals.
- 6:04They're not too hard to read. I I will say that the tech
- 6:07preview that I tried earlier on the engineering terminal made no
- 6:13sense. It was just a barrage of
- 6:14information like it was, it was confusing it, it had no
- 6:19explanation and it was pretty bad.
- 6:23But it's gotten a lot better. It makes a lot more sense now.
- 6:29Is it like, is it quick 'cause I feel like all those terminals
- 6:33and stuff, they're kind of like finicky.
- 6:36And my concern with engineering was like, oh man, you gotta like
- 6:38run, run and do this thing on the terminal, but like you snap
- 6:41out of it or something for, you know, whatever.
- 6:43Like like the ship shakes and your character like gets pulled
- 6:46away from the terminal and stuff.
- 6:47I don't know. It's a lot better because the
- 6:49main screen that it takes to you takes you to.
- 6:52Is a useful, important screen, and you don't have to
- 6:56necessarily click into that to get at least a quick idea 'cause
- 7:00there's a notification center in the top right, like little bell,
- 7:05like hit that bell and subscribe.
- 7:08Oh, hey, yeah, get that call to action in there.
- 7:13Yeah, by the way, little, little digression here.
- 7:15I want to apologize to everybody the all the videos posted twice
- 7:21because I finally connected YouTube with the RSS feed and
- 7:25then it reposted everything twice so.
- 7:30Apology accepted. I'm speaking on behalf of our
- 7:33followers. Yeah.
- 7:36Yeah, thank you. That's it.
- 7:38So anyway, you're you're back on the ship, you're at the console.
- 7:41It's easy. It's easy to navigate.
- 7:43Yeah, it's easy to navigate and if you don't want to dig into
- 7:45it, there's a notification center you can take a quick kind
- 7:48of glance at. It'll have like a 1-2 or three
- 7:52for any of the warnings, like how many warnings you have.
- 7:55So it's like right now if something's OK, it says fixed,
- 8:00which is kind of weird because that implies you fixed it and
- 8:05not like normal, but whatever. It's TTU 3rd wave by the way,
- 8:09we're up to wave 3. We're just tonight they.
- 8:12Open up. Wow.
- 8:14Yeah, Yep, that was this patch. That's fast.
- 8:17I feel like they they just when did.
- 8:19When was wave 1A? Couple days ago Monday.
- 8:24Yeah, Monday. I think Monday, yeah.
- 8:26Oh, that's crazy. OK, well.
- 8:29I don't think that's evidence that they're kicking this out
- 8:32the door so fast. I, I, I think they just want
- 8:35more data because I think we've all discussed many times that
- 8:39evo is not enough. It's and wave 1 is decent but
- 8:46they need more. Right.
- 8:49Yeah, OK, that makes sense. Butts in seats.
- 8:51Mm. Hmm.
- 8:52Yeah. So well, Speaking of is is it
- 8:55working the butts in seats? Do you feel?
- 8:57Like it's stable. It's I think so they're
- 9:02defaulting to Vulcan now and that has its.
- 9:05Own. Yeah, I saw this, Yeah.
- 9:08Issues like my frames are just freaking awful around the
- 9:12Perseus. Like the Polaris was always kind
- 9:16of bad, but right now the Perseus just hurts to try and
- 9:20move around in. Like one of those video clips I
- 9:22sent you. I I didn't watch it beforehand
- 9:24before I sent you it. And then I watched him like,
- 9:25wow, I'm getting like a frame a second there because it's bad.
- 9:33Yeah. Well, that's part for the
- 9:36course. It's kind of what you expect.
- 9:38Yeah, and The thing is when it does work, when I am getting
- 9:44normal numbers of frames, it's like a whole another game.
- 9:48Like it feels so much smoother for some reason.
- 9:50Like it's that it feels like you're playing a single player
- 9:53game at some points where you don't have that kind of lag you
- 9:57get playing Star Citizen. Oh, there's one of the clips
- 10:01you've got. All right.
- 10:03All right, for those watching right now, this clip, which is
- 10:08very cool, was so there's this was on live and there were some
- 10:16shitheads camping between Levski and Stanton gateways or Levski
- 10:23and Stanton gateway I. Think there's going to be a lot
- 10:26of shitheads camping that. Yeah, 'cause there's nowhere to
- 10:29go. Like that's that's one of the
- 10:31problems, not right now with Knicks is you've got 3 jump
- 10:34points unless you grab a mission.
- 10:37It's Pyro Gateway, Stanton gateway and Levski.
- 10:40Great. OK, that's just asking to get
- 10:43camped, and these folks do. I don't mind it, I think it's
- 10:47kind of fun. Yeah.
- 10:48So we wanted to break this blockade and because, well,
- 10:52partially so it was a two kind of two objectives.
- 10:56One St. our friend and fellow org member got popped on the way
- 11:04from Stanton Gateway to Levski, and we needed to save him
- 11:09because he had important stuff on him.
- 11:12So we've got together to break the blockade and we dropped out
- 11:17kind of far away from the interdictors, and they were just
- 11:23sitting there, not moving. So Cadoyo turned his his ship,
- 11:29his address with the rail gun attached towards them.
- 11:32They still didn't move and he fired one shot and sniped A
- 11:37mantis from like, oh, that is like 6 or 7 kilometers away.
- 11:43Very, very cool to see 'cause they just didn't move.
- 11:48You got to keep moving like, but it was love that.
- 11:53The hard way many times. So I guess I haven't learned it.
- 11:57His next one is he came in a little fast on the whole with
- 12:01you know what I mean? Oh.
- 12:02Yeah, at Levsky and we, we bounced.
- 12:05Are you survived? Yep, it's the Idris.
- 12:08That thing bounces. Really.
- 12:11So they they just flew into the whole of Levsky, right up onto
- 12:16the wall there? Yeah.
- 12:20If you were in an error or something, you just would have
- 12:21smashed and. Died.
- 12:22Oh yeah, I know the Idris. It bounces.
- 12:24Well, pay to win I guess. Pay to bounce.
- 12:28I got this one here. I don't know what this is.
- 12:30You got a handgun in your hand. Oh yeah, I'm on.
- 12:33Fire a lot of smoke. That's my Perseus engineering
- 12:37room on fire. And one of the fun facts about
- 12:39the Perseus engineering room is it's kind of deep in the back of
- 12:43the ship and there's no exits to vent, so it's kind of hard to
- 12:48deal with a fire back there. You you really can't see
- 12:52anything. Gets you shit and this is.
- 12:55Looks really good. This is actually improved from
- 12:59like Monday or Tuesday. Wait, what day is it's
- 13:02Wednesday? The Monday or Tuesday patch
- 13:05where the smoke was even worse and you can see anything at all.
- 13:10This is improved. This is This is.
- 13:13Improved. So where?
- 13:14Where's the fire in here? That's a great question.
- 13:18I don't know because it just, it got very fiery, very smoky, and
- 13:26then the fire seemed to vanish, but the smoke stuck around.
- 13:30So like if we're talking real world physics, it put the fire
- 13:33ran out of oxygen, but since we're in space, the heat
- 13:36remained. But I'm also currently sitting
- 13:40at over 2000°C, which I think is enough to turn me into jello.
- 13:45Yeah, you should be boiling. Yeah.
- 13:48Your body temperature it says it's 39 point 639.7.
- 13:54But I should be dead like the. Yeah.
- 13:58How long can a person maintain a temperature of like 39°?
- 14:01Or do you just die before that? I don't know.
- 14:04Celsius, I imagine you cook your brain enough to like no longer
- 14:12function. Well, 39 Celsius actually isn't
- 14:15that hot. OK.
- 14:18I guess would be a sustained thing.
- 14:19Yeah, you can get like 40-40 like outdoor that's like in the
- 14:2290s. So that's probably like a little
- 14:25hot. Yeah.
- 14:27I don't know what the regulated body temperature is in in
- 14:31Celsius. There's math there and I don't
- 14:35like it. I'll look it up.
- 14:36I'll look it up for us. What's, what's going on here?
- 14:40You're in a hangar. Oh this is me getting like a
- 14:44frame a second but just wait for the surprise in like 10 seconds.
- 14:50So average there it is. Who happened?
- 15:05Everything exploded. Nothing.
- 15:07Literally nothing was happening and then everything exploded.
- 15:10When your power plant. This is a great segue into how
- 15:13engineering works now. So when your power plant takes
- 15:17enough damage and goes critical, you have to fix it before it
- 15:23goes critical and you've got a timer on the engineering
- 15:26station. I don't know if you see that
- 15:28timer on the MF DS of your ship, I don't know, I haven't had
- 15:34enough time to really try that. But the timer ticks down and
- 15:38when it hits zero it essentially is just self disrupts the ship.
- 15:42Wait, hold on, hold on a second. Why is the timer ticking down?
- 15:45Because the power plant has gone critical, it takes enough
- 15:47damage, that's it. It's overheating and go boom.
- 15:55You know, Star Trek, the the warp core is overloading, you
- 16:00know, and you have to stop it and prevent that or you do that.
- 16:07So it it gets damaged just by like ship fire and stuff when
- 16:10people shooting at you. OK.
- 16:12And so it overloads, has a timer and then it can explode if you
- 16:14don't fix it within that timer. Yep.
- 16:16And in order to fix it, you just got to shoot a repair tool at
- 16:18it. Yep.
- 16:21All right. Although there is a percent
- 16:23chance that you can't stop it. How high of a percent?
- 16:30No idea there. It did not list that in any of
- 16:34the documentation or patch notes.
- 16:38All right, all right, well, this week we're talking about
- 16:41engineering. We're talking about engineering
- 16:44is a busy work. Is it is it game changing?
- 16:47We could we covered a lot of ground in this first part, but
- 16:49we're going to start bringing out a couple of guests right
- 16:51now, a couple of callers. If you did want to call in, you
- 16:54call in live on the Discord. You just join the Discord here.
- 16:58We will we'll take your call. You can voice your concern or
- 17:01share some wisdom. And just a little clarification
- 17:04from earlier in the episode, the average normal body temperature
- 17:09is 37°C. OK.
- 17:12So you're just like a little, you're running a fever, I guess.
- 17:15It's not that hot. Yeah.
- 17:17So that suit is actually quite impressive if it's 2435°
- 17:22outside. But you're only.
- 17:24Yeah, this is a good guy, you know, good guy you love who has
- 17:30very likely not played the engineering.
- 17:32It is wicket. Wicket, Welcome to Open Comms
- 17:34RADIO. First question for you today,
- 17:38Wicket engineering, busy work or game changing?
- 17:43Citizens. Long time listener, occasional
- 17:47caller. Welcome, welcome, Wicket,
- 17:53welcome back to the show. Welcome.
- 17:58So far I'm not part of the PTU, not one of the in in crowd.
- 18:03My outsider looking in. Yep.
- 18:06Watched a lot of coverage of OF since it's gone to wave 1 and
- 18:11the NDA was lifted. Watched a lot of videos.
- 18:14Watch Cosmic and Broccoli, Rob and some others doing some stuff
- 18:23in 4.5 and testing some of the new features and the engineering
- 18:27gameplay and so forth. First thing I have to say is so
- 18:33far what I've seen with for one facet of the entire expansion,
- 18:40it's super disappointing. And that, of course, is no
- 18:46rocket pack. No rocket jet pack, fire
- 18:49extinguishers. Some.
- 18:52I do have to agree with you that one that is that's that's a
- 18:55problem. They need to fix that.
- 18:56That's this is a game that prides itself on realism and
- 19:03fundamental physics, you know, gravity generators
- 19:06notwithstanding and so forth, almost near faster than light
- 19:11travel, etcetera, etcetera. And they couldn't get the rocket
- 19:16jetpack fire extinguisher correct.
- 19:19Unbelievable. It is severely disappointing.
- 19:22I think what what's what's also disappointing is no mention of
- 19:25it. No, no, no, no, no.
- 19:28SCL no one's even talking about this.
- 19:31And it's like you want us to believe in in you know, it's
- 19:34already when I leave my ship and do these these missions and
- 19:37Nicks and there's a ship flying out there in the asteroid.
- 19:40The the asteroids aren't moving, OK, And then I come up on the
- 19:44ship and I bump into this body. The body doesn't move.
- 19:47OK, And then you're going to just cherry on top and give us a
- 19:51brand new shiny toy that is a beautiful, exquisite fire
- 19:56extinguisher and not allow us to use that to propel us in space.
- 20:01Are we playing a space game? I don't know.
- 20:05Sometimes I really don't know. Good question.
- 20:08Now, having said that and gotten that out of the way, some of the
- 20:14engineering stuff, well, I'll say all of the engineering stuff
- 20:19looks like it has promise. But with the other changes that
- 20:25they've made to the game, what I've seen so far and and I'm
- 20:30sure this is just all iterative and this will finally there'll
- 20:34be become a happy medium. But currently in its current
- 20:37state, I'm very worried. I'm seeing, and this goes to the
- 20:42question, busy work or game changer?
- 20:47I guess kind of both really. In my mind, I've seen a lot of
- 20:52ships taking very few hits and then all of a sudden Catching
- 20:58Fire left, right and center, Stuff breaking, stuff turning
- 21:03off, the alarm constantly sounding, not shutting down.
- 21:08And it seems like the especially in larger ships with interiors,
- 21:12everybody's running around trying to figure out what's
- 21:15broken. How do I get to it?
- 21:16How do I fix it? Seems like the fire can never be
- 21:19put out and then it comes back again.
- 21:22And this is from a few shots from some innocuous ship.
- 21:26You know, obviously everybody was standing still and this is
- 21:28just a test, but I'm hopeful that that will get changed
- 21:33because it seems like our Gloria Space game that we all have come
- 21:44to know and love is turning into running around with my head cut
- 21:49off Fireman Simulator. Well, to be fair, that does not
- 21:55sound like a bad experience. But and also to be fair, do you
- 21:59think that they're just testing like they these things are
- 22:03turned up because they want to test the fire, so they want more
- 22:06instances of fire happening. So they're just like, just let
- 22:09it happen like all the time. Maybe.
- 22:12But I would hope that they would have communicated that because,
- 22:17excuse me, I would have hoped that they would have
- 22:22communicated that and let us know that this is an extreme
- 22:27case because they wanted to test systems or whatever.
- 22:31But I don't think that was ever communicated, Not from what I've
- 22:33seen. It it's on the PTU which implies
- 22:40it's a testing universe. So I would assume obviously on
- 22:44there is testing. Obviously that's true.
- 22:47I mean the PU technically is testing.
- 22:50It's alpha that's technically testing.
- 22:54That's understood what I'm saying.
- 22:55The point I'm trying to make is is if if there if the amount of
- 23:01fire and the amount of stuff breaking constantly from hardly
- 23:04any like Oh my God, I skinned my knee up.
- 23:08We're going to have to amputate that kind of thing.
- 23:12I think you're overstating that, but because that's not who's.
- 23:15Cutting legs. Off so far.
- 23:17Well, I'm, that's, that's an analogy.
- 23:20It's like, you know, I, I saw several videos where a guy shot
- 23:24a ship and two or three shots of the ship and pop, pop, pop, half
- 23:30the ship is broken, everything's on fire and.
- 23:33Well, that that, that's probably just that that guy was probably
- 23:35flying a Stinger. No.
- 23:38That's just what happens when you're in the Stinger.
- 23:39You're weak, your wings just pop right off.
- 23:42Your ship caught, causes fire. You can't fly it anymore.
- 23:45That's a Stinger problem. Any anyway, the the the point
- 23:49is, is that if I don't, I mean I haven't seen I, I don't, I
- 23:53haven't gone in depth. I mean some of the some of the
- 23:56notes I saw on some of the changes there's like 1200
- 23:59changes just in weapons. Think I'm not going to read
- 24:05through all that? No, no.
- 24:09But they were cool and they got lots of new like red dot sights,
- 24:13lots of new weapon components, and they did a lot of like
- 24:16damage stuff, you know, balancing, that's what you call
- 24:20it, a lot of weapon balancing. And I think there's a lot of new
- 24:22guns coming in too. I didn't read through the whole
- 24:24list, but it was long. My hope is with what I've seen
- 24:29so far, the the old analogy that they always like to express them
- 24:33by they I mean CIG is dial it back to fun.
- 24:38What I've seen so far, that's not my kind of fun.
- 24:40Somebody else may love that stuff, but I, I, I, I don't know
- 24:45if I would want to be the guy constantly running around
- 24:48putting out fires. I mean, in my mind, in my mind,
- 24:53in my mind, if if this is if we're going to bring it to more
- 24:56of a simulation type thing and more realistic yes, that what
- 25:01what happens now with a couple of shots that would happen that
- 25:04like after that ship has battled like two or three enemies and
- 25:09you know, it's really taking a beating over a multi, you know,
- 25:135-10 minute fight with a bunch of different attackers and you
- 25:17know, after it's dispatched them or gotten out of there, this is
- 25:20what the ship is left with. Now we got to fix it, you know,
- 25:23but or or maybe this is something that happens while
- 25:26you're fighting and you got your crew back there taking care of
- 25:29business, trying to repair stuff.
- 25:31But you know, this is like after it's really taking a beating.
- 25:35It's like in the current game when you're super red and you
- 25:38have to go and repair or you're not going to be able to make it
- 25:41to in your next battle, that kind of thing.
- 25:43But you know, I could understand that.
- 25:46But it's almost, it's like, it's like almost the amount of damage
- 25:51has been dialed up to 100 where, you know.
- 25:55How do you say that? Because it's been like the exact
- 25:57opposite from my experience. Oh, right now when you were
- 26:01shooting that address? Yes, it took a lot of shots.
- 26:07Well, I've seen specifically Captain Foxy Loxy, it's another
- 26:11YouTube. I saw him doing some testing,
- 26:14like fire two or three shots and they went right straight through
- 26:16the through the ship. Well, yeah, it depends what
- 26:19you're shooting with and shooting at.
- 26:21Well, that's just an example. Now you're looking, you're
- 26:25talking about shooting the biggest ship in the game, but
- 26:29even that. And I was shooting and it took
- 26:32forever. I didn't think it took forever.
- 26:36I didn't think it took forever. I thought I was watching your
- 26:38your video, your your your your stream on you on Discord and
- 26:43after a couple of shots stuff was already on fire.
- 26:46It seems like the interest did not catch fire ever like it was
- 26:51the other. Oh, that was you were in the
- 26:52Perseus. That was in the Perseus.
- 26:54Oh yeah, the Perseus got fucked by the by.
- 26:57So fun fact, the Aries can finally do its job.
- 27:01The is the inferno. That's what he hit me with is
- 27:04with the Inferno. It's like, so we had a ship
- 27:06specifically designed to do that, and it was working as
- 27:09intended for the first time ever.
- 27:12I'll, I'll leave my final, my final take on this to where it
- 27:16actually goes to the PU. I mean, I, I know this is the
- 27:20first iteration. Maybe they have dialed it up to,
- 27:22to, to gather more data to see how it functions and stuff.
- 27:27I just would have liked that to be communicated like, OK, this
- 27:29is going to be a little bit extra.
- 27:31This is not going to be the final product.
- 27:33It's you're going to have extra damage or something.
- 27:35That's what it seems like to me. Maybe I'm, maybe I'm overstating
- 27:38the fact, but that's just my assumption.
- 27:40My from what I've seen, all the videos I've consumed, I haven't
- 27:43done anything in in in the PTU myself, but just what I've seen
- 27:47online and what my fellow guildies have done and on
- 27:51Discord and shared with us. So I might be maybe
- 27:56misunderstanding it that that's not the first time that would
- 27:59have happened. But my initial take is.
- 28:03I hope this gets dialed back a little bit.
- 28:08So we get, well, you play a lot of those fantasy MMO games, Wow
- 28:11and and stuff. You played those?
- 28:12Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:14What? What class did you play?
- 28:16All of them. No.
- 28:17What's your go to though? It just depends what I'm in the
- 28:22mood like my initial start off was a druid that was my my first
- 28:27thing and he's like a multifaceted role that's not a
- 28:34master of any role. They can do almost everything.
- 28:38Yeah, I got. I'm clocking you.
- 28:42I'm clocking you. Well, Speaking of someone I'm
- 28:45clocking. Oh my gosh, I almost didn't.
- 28:47I almost brought him up to the wrong space.
- 28:49This guy plays a lot. He'll have something to say to
- 28:52us about the FPS weapons, about the all the other new FPS stuff
- 28:57coming in. But did you play any of that FPS
- 29:01stuff? No, I've only done engineering
- 29:05with the ship stuff so far. OK, Rob, you want to come on in
- 29:10here, you have to accept I'm a little legal disclaimer there.
- 29:14I'm going to be honest, I don't know really, really know what it
- 29:18says. Brock and Rob, welcome to Open
- 29:20Comms Radio, your Star Citizen call in show this week's
- 29:23question engineering, Busy work or game changer?
- 29:29How's it going y'all? Definitely game changer.
- 29:33Sorry about sound. What?
- 29:34Do you say? Iffy I yeah the COVID and flu
- 29:37shot yesterday and still still recovering from that.
- 29:42It is kicking my ass. You did it.
- 29:46You doubled up. I did it.
- 29:48I doubled up too and I did mine. You never don't.
- 29:50You never double up. That was fine.
- 29:53Oh my, mostly. Broccoli.
- 29:56Rob, I don't know if we can trust your word now, knowing how
- 30:00heavily drugged up you are, but you you seem you seem pretty
- 30:05excited about this. I'm seeing you text.
- 30:08I know you've been doing a lot of the engineering, a lot of the
- 30:10running around. Yeah.
- 30:13Yeah, yeah. And I think it's it's going to
- 30:16be great for the game at large. So you're putting out fires.
- 30:22You're you're playing with this console Hobo was mentioned
- 30:26before about how the, the the power plant can just get shot
- 30:29and and go on the Fritz and you got a timer before you get a
- 30:32repair. Are there any other, you know,
- 30:36interesting gameplay things with other components that are maybe
- 30:39unique here? As far as unique goes, I would
- 30:45say, I mean, I think the whole thing is unique.
- 30:47I was looking at that that little engineering doc they sent
- 30:51out. But it's a little.
- 30:55Yeah, yeah, right. Not so little, but I think that
- 30:58it it's not going to change how like single seeders kind of like
- 31:04basic stuff works, but I do think it's going to bring in a
- 31:09level of like weight to fights that we haven't seen before that
- 31:15we need to see. Weight, WEIGHT heaviness.
- 31:22Yes, yeah. You know, if you get into a big
- 31:26fight and you win and you take off, you don't just, you know,
- 31:30dust your hands off and be like, all right, cool, on to the next
- 31:33one. Like having it mean something is
- 31:37important. You mean mean something that you
- 31:40got hit, you have you have a hole in your ship, you got a
- 31:42patch, that sort of thing? Yeah, that you got into a fight
- 31:44with another ship and you came out on top.
- 31:45Like you don't, you don't just go get to go to the space
- 31:48station and click a few buttons and then you've got a brand new
- 31:51ship, like all you know fixed up and ready to go.
- 31:55So there needs to be evidence that you got into a huge fight
- 32:00and you got away or won. OK, well, right, right now my
- 32:06wings keep falling off. That I think that might be user
- 32:12error, I'm not sure though. Sounds like a you problem.
- 32:16All the time. All the time.
- 32:18My my wings are popping off. OK.
- 32:24Do you think people are going to be just like really being like,
- 32:29I'm going to be an engineer and that's what they're going to be
- 32:31doing for like 3 hours? I think so.
- 32:35I think if the gameplay is there for it, people will want to take
- 32:37it on. Yeah.
- 32:38I mean, I'm I'm pretty interested in doing that
- 32:41sometimes at least. It feels like you should care
- 32:46about your ship now. It's not just a metal box with
- 32:51guns on it anymore. It has all manner of systems
- 32:55inside that need to be maintained.
- 32:59But that's also, it's also the way damage is now done because
- 33:04the whole health pool thing into what we've been used to for
- 33:06years is gone. OK, not entirely gone, but
- 33:10mostly gone. That there is still a hole you
- 33:12can cut through and eventually that will make it super easy for
- 33:16you to go kablooey. But.
- 33:19Is that hole the Shields and the armor?
- 33:21No hole. Hole as in hole like it is your
- 33:23ship hole? HULL hole?
- 33:26Oh, oh, OK. But on top of that, yes, you do
- 33:29have armor that is important as well.
- 33:31And I don't think we've necessarily grasped how armor
- 33:36repair is going to work. I get the sense you're going to
- 33:39have to take that back to a, to a pad or station for repair
- 33:43because that's finite, But sometime in the future I suppose
- 33:47you'll be able to craft like armor plates or something.
- 33:50I don't know. That's unclear at this point,
- 33:53but that's another factor. It very much follows that old
- 33:59RPG formula of health, armor and Shields and Shields being
- 34:04rechargeable, armor being finite that needs some sort of a
- 34:08consumable or break before you can fix that, and then health
- 34:14being health. So if I go to the hangar and
- 34:18land my ship, it'll repair my armor and my health right now?
- 34:22Yes, from what we can tell. But there's a big asterisk
- 34:26there. There's a big asterisk there
- 34:29with components. Yes, they will repair the health
- 34:35side of components. There's essentially 2 health
- 34:38bars now for components. There's your health health bar,
- 34:42which is what you would imagine it would be.
- 34:45It takes damage, it breaks, you fix it.
- 34:48Then there's wear and tear. And this is probably one of the
- 34:52more controversial additions we'll say because wear and tear.
- 35:00As of right now, without crafting or any of those sorts
- 35:04of mechanics, wear and tear is A1 and done thing.
- 35:08If your component is worn down entirely, it must be replaced.
- 35:16OK. Now there's a lot of questions
- 35:19about that, because what about these components that you can't
- 35:24replace on ships? Yeah, and what about these
- 35:27components that I bought with real money?
- 35:30When did you buy components with real money?
- 35:33It's good. It's going to happen.
- 35:35It OK it did. People forget that the Voyager
- 35:39direct story ever existed, But that's OK because most people
- 35:45wanted. To but don't don't you get
- 35:47special? I remember I had like special
- 35:48components, I think the 300 series or whatever.
- 35:55I customize it and I had like, I guess I just had guns and stuff.
- 35:59Yeah, I don't remember components.
- 36:01There were components in some sale I think I remember.
- 36:05I remember the customization because my 3:15 is customized,
- 36:10but I don't think there were components.
- 36:13Off all wood. Well, yes, all wood.
- 36:17That's not the ship component components, not not the power
- 36:21plant radar cooler. Those components are what I'm
- 36:25talking about. OK.
- 36:27Are weapons components? No.
- 36:29They're weapons. Do weapons have wear and tear?
- 36:34I don't actually remember. They do.
- 36:37They do. They're components, so if the
- 36:39weapons wear and tear runs out. You got to get a new weapon.
- 36:43You got to get a new weapon, so I do have weapons that I own in
- 36:46my hangar. Yes.
- 36:48Yeah. I don't know.
- 36:52There's still many questions about insurance and warranty and
- 36:57what applies to what that we have yet to see implemented.
- 37:07So they're going to have to do insurance like very soon.
- 37:11This is like going to have to be figured out.
- 37:12I know they gave that like presentation about it, but this
- 37:14is going to have to be implemented like very very soon.
- 37:18I maybe, I'm not sure I. I can't, I can't imagine for the
- 37:27next three months that the game is out, that they're just like,
- 37:30Oh yeah, like you can just permanently lose stuff from your
- 37:33like your, your hanger. But you're.
- 37:36Not spectrum would go nuts. But you're not losing anything
- 37:42purchased. I also think like stock stuff
- 37:48you should be able to claim as insurance, but I think that like
- 37:53XL ones, the ones that we, you know, manufacture, I think that
- 37:58should go away because I think that will go into you caring
- 38:03about your ship more. Because if I can just throw away
- 38:05my Coursera with the XL1 on it every time I, you know, don't
- 38:11feel like using it, then I don't care about that ship.
- 38:17Well, I think that they that as as engineering and wear and tear
- 38:21and all the stuff gets developed initially.
- 38:24I can foresee that, that, you know, this comes through 4.5 and
- 38:27we we get the engineering and we get wear and tear.
- 38:31We don't really have any way of combating wear and tear.
- 38:34There's no crafting, there's no, you know, there may be, there's
- 38:36no individual way of us fixing wear and tear on an individual
- 38:42basis. And they just leave the magic
- 38:44repair button in until that system comes online, you know,
- 38:48as a stop gap. I could, I can, I can live with
- 38:51that. Yeah, I could see that honestly,
- 38:53I. I maybe maybe pair pair that
- 38:56with with an extra auec charge to to repair wear and tear or
- 39:03fresh I don't know you know something similar that can just
- 39:06be a stop gap system until other other more permanent systems
- 39:10come online. I think with crafting we'll have
- 39:14a chance to do wear and tear replacements or breakdown and
- 39:18rebuild broken components. I also really think we should
- 39:23have to take these components to landing zones like Dumpers
- 39:27Depot. I can't remember who was talking
- 39:29about that, but taking stuff to like dumper Dumpers Depot to
- 39:34overhaul it and then it's like, oh, come back in like an hour or
- 39:39two hours or something. To have it fixed up with.
- 39:41You that I'd like to see because AI want us to have a reason to
- 39:45go there BI want us to have sort of an.
- 39:50Well, every if you, if you think about it, if you think about it,
- 39:53every, every hanger has that little cubby on the side.
- 39:57Just I think just about every hanger has like drone repair
- 40:01thing that you know, you could, you could, I could see us
- 40:04carting, you know, components over there or something to have
- 40:07them fixed up. And have them sit there and
- 40:10like, all right, come back in like an hour.
- 40:12The other thing that leads into crafting, a lot of games that
- 40:16have any kind of crafting material, they also have,
- 40:18besides the salvage that we have in our in, in, in the game now
- 40:22we're, you know, hole scraping and munching and whatnot.
- 40:27A lot of systems that have crafting also have a salvage
- 40:30mechanic where either the the you take like a gun off and you
- 40:34run it through your recycler, right?
- 40:37And the recycler, there's like an RNG of this and that or
- 40:41whatever components coming out of that recycling process that
- 40:44you can then subsequently use in to make another version of that.
- 40:49Absolutely. I think that I really think that
- 40:53should happen with crafting just so we can a that'll give salvage
- 40:57gameplay more to do because right now you can't sell
- 41:01anything you salvage like components or weapons.
- 41:03It's just junk. So like, all right, let us reuse
- 41:07that, give salvagers more of a job, have them pair up with
- 41:10crafters to rebuild stuff. Like come on CIG, send me the
- 41:16check in the mail. Yeah, I, yeah, Engineering I
- 41:22think is the first time, like the first way that they're going
- 41:27to get us to care about our ships.
- 41:30Stuff like crafting will further improve that because like if we
- 41:34can do salvage, that means your components have to mean
- 41:38something. So if they don't, then there's
- 41:41no point in salvage. Could also have some maybe add
- 41:48on slash unwanted effects caring about your ship.
- 41:52You know, nowadays it's about anybody will fight just about
- 41:56anybody else because you know, it's easy to repair your ship
- 41:59and come get back in the fight or get back out there.
- 42:02When you know, engineering comes on and you have to deal with all
- 42:07that fire and messing around with that thing.
- 42:09You're going to be less apartment to maybe take that
- 42:11fight and your first instinct instead of fighting.
- 42:14If you've got, you know, if you, if you got a little slow, a
- 42:17little, just a little bit of game time, you don't have time
- 42:20to mess with all this stuff. First instinct may be to run
- 42:23every time. Oh yeah, running needs to be
- 42:27more of a thing, you must think. And they've said this like CRG
- 42:32devs have said this, something inside Stars says in Stars is
- 42:35live. Like they said, well, you could
- 42:38run. And of course people like laugh
- 42:40at that and like, yeah, why would I run?
- 42:42I want to fight and stuff. Like he's.
- 42:45Right, he's right. Like ignore the British accent,
- 42:48he's right. I think that's also getting into
- 42:53the like separating out, which I've wanted them to do for a
- 42:57while, separating out like arena commander and PU, because like
- 43:00right now it's just every fight is just like an arena commander
- 43:04fight. Like you go in, you see who can
- 43:06kill the other one first and then you know, good fight and
- 43:10chat and then move on. It's a DPS race, it's whoever
- 43:13can apply the most DPS faster. It's something like.
- 43:21So this is a a little moment now we have some some comments.
- 43:26That we can beat me to it. And, and, and we have some
- 43:29comments in the chat in the chat room and we have some comments
- 43:31from the the discord there. Hobo do you want to start?
- 43:36You want to read the. Which one do you want to do
- 43:38first? Let's do the chat the chat box.
- 43:42All right, so this is a. This is a topic near and dear to
- 43:47this commenter's heart. He, he, he was very adamant
- 43:50about this. It's, it's, it's our friend of
- 43:53the show, former former Co host Drake Tabbington AKA Tab.
- 44:00So there is not a naval vessel in this world that shouts at a
- 44:06crew warning fire detected when they need to communicate to put
- 44:10the fire out. Why is the fire alarm not just
- 44:13an alarm of a certain sound? I'm just arguing arguing.
- 44:20There's a reason that no Navy in the world uses verbal warnings.
- 44:25He's not done. Like I said, this is near near
- 44:28his heart. Every Navy has verbal warnings,
- 44:32but it's the repetition after the call that is made that I
- 44:38think is detrimental when listening to someone describe
- 44:41the problem. At the heat of the moment, the
- 44:43last thing a person needs is another piece of language and
- 44:47repetition. Shouting fire detective.
- 44:50To me it seems a case of the game trying to create a movie,
- 44:54but that doesn't translate in game practice, much less
- 44:58reality. Thank you, Tav for that comment.
- 45:03Tav first of all, why don't you just come on the show if you're
- 45:08going to write these long which can I taste them?
- 45:11I totally agree with does the so the fire alarm shouts at you.
- 45:15Oh yeah, it's done. It's unrelenting and.
- 45:18And and yeah, I just. Have a Yeah, why not have a fire
- 45:24alarm? It is a fire alarm it.
- 45:26Says why not have a switch to silence the alarm?
- 45:29That I agree with, that we need. We need, we need, we need
- 45:32abilities to turn off the fire alarm.
- 45:34It's right up there with a fire extinguisher jetpack.
- 45:38Although one of those I feel like it's going to be more
- 45:40likely to happen than the other, but.
- 45:44Well, remember that new sound guy they got on?
- 45:46He's like, I'm going to make all the phones.
- 45:47I this is his idea of the fire alarm.
- 45:51You got to take it up with that guy.
- 45:54I agree there should be a switch.
- 45:56Like there's 100% there should be a switch.
- 45:58But I like the alarm. I I know because we're not all
- 46:05going to have the same naval training you get in real life.
- 46:08Or like this alarm meets this, this alarm means this like yeah,
- 46:15I think. There could be a lot of alarms,
- 46:17Yeah, on your ship, you know what I mean?
- 46:19You can have alarms for all kinds of.
- 46:20Things just just think of think about what you're saying after
- 46:23100 hours of fighting fires on your Perseus a couple of weeks.
- 46:28Let me let me let me turn off the alarm like that.
- 46:31Yes. Like if they give that ability I
- 46:34will have no complaints at all because then I can just allow
- 46:37myself to a burned or crisp if I want to, which is what I did
- 46:40earlier. OK, OK.
- 46:46We have another time. Yeah.
- 46:49Thank you, Tav. Thank you.
- 46:51The next one is from Caddoil. He was just reiterating the
- 46:55inferno. Check out the Perseus quickly,
- 46:58but his. Interest you were fighting with
- 47:00earlier in the beginning of the show.
- 47:02Yes, that's how the clip from earlier that was from that
- 47:07exchange we were testing, it was a friendly bout shoot.
- 47:10In the Perseus, Cadoy was in the Perseus getting whacked.
- 47:14Yeah, I was. I was in the Perseus and he was
- 47:17in the Inferno, and the Inferno just shreds like components.
- 47:23It, it was Blink and my power plant was dead.
- 47:27Because if so, one of the big things with engineering that
- 47:32people are going to have to learn where components are, they
- 47:36need to learn. And that's not just for the
- 47:38defensive side of things with engineering where you got to
- 47:40know where to fix things. It's on the offensive side of
- 47:42things too. Like, we sat down and I was in
- 47:46the Perseus size 8 on the turrets, kind of searching for
- 47:50where to hit, and he would run it.
- 47:52He was running around inside the address to the key components.
- 47:56And I'd had his marker in the party, so I knew where to aim.
- 48:00But you're not going to have that on enemy ships usually.
- 48:03So you kind of just need to learn at least vaguely where
- 48:08things like engineering rooms are on ships.
- 48:14OK OK, very good. I'm just real.
- 48:17I'm realizing now that the other comment we had on the discord
- 48:21was the same comment that to have had in in the.
- 48:24Comments here so I'm. Not he is very adamant about
- 48:27this. You should have heard him in
- 48:28chat. He he very much despises this
- 48:31repetition and of the alarm. You know, and can I say, can I
- 48:34say the one on the Discord? Much shorter, much quicker to
- 48:37the point to have. So gravity.
- 48:41I don't know what, I don't know what's happening there.
- 48:44Yeah, he has more to say. Not much to say, but the Cambio
- 48:49SRT, which is again something that most people don't realize
- 48:54exists in the game, that's a large salvage tool.
- 48:58You know how we have the large tractor beam, but we have a
- 49:00large salvage beam as well that no one ever has needed until now
- 49:07because the. Cambio SRT is useful now for
- 49:11repairing over the multi tool he says.
- 49:14Does it repair faster or just does it repair components?
- 49:19What do you mean it's it's more useful.
- 49:21So we watched, I, I watched him trying to repair the Idris's
- 49:25coolers with the little handheld multi tool.
- 49:28Super slow. OK, so I imagine he went back.
- 49:33Oh yeah, there you go. He had a follow up 26 seconds
- 49:36for 1% compared to one minute and six seconds for 1%.
- 49:41So sounds like it is much faster repairing.
- 49:44Oh, OK. Yeah, it's more than double,
- 49:47more than twice as fast. Which makes sense.
- 49:50That's that's that's great news because no one uses that stupid
- 49:54thing. And now it's no longer stupid.
- 49:56Makes sense? To fully repaired is 2.6 hours.
- 50:02We're talking interest component.
- 50:04I know. 2.6 seconds for 1%, so times there'd be 260 seconds, so
- 50:12you. Need to have more than one
- 50:14person trying to repair. That's a couple minutes.
- 50:17That's two minutes. That's also something you're
- 50:21working on in the middle of battle, not after.
- 50:26Repairing. After battle, you're going to,
- 50:28you're just going to repair it enough so it's functional, so
- 50:30you can drive back to the garage and have the drones come out and
- 50:34repair you. Unless you're a cheapo and don't
- 50:37want to pay that bill. Well you said he paid almost
- 50:40$1,000,000 to repair it. Yeah.
- 50:46That's some that's some big money.
- 50:48That's some big money. Speaking of big money, the verse
- 50:51the economy is inflated. I'm not just talking about the
- 50:55real world out there. I'm talking about the real world
- 50:58in Star Citizen money is is is persistent.
- 51:02It's everywhere. They we just keep printing more.
- 51:05AUECI have 30 million Wiki wiki. You just handed me 30 million
- 51:12didn't even seem to affect you. I know that everybody has a shit
- 51:15ton of money right now. Rob, you're you're you're going
- 51:18out there. You're selling components to to
- 51:20people and they're, I see you in the army posting outrageous
- 51:25prices for some of these components.
- 51:27Yeah, they're they're silly what they're paying.
- 51:30I really thought this was the beginning of an ad read for like
- 51:33the Empire's Heritage Institute, but no.
- 51:37No no no no. But Cruise Lux is just for a
- 51:41UEC. There it is.
- 51:43Never inflated like Arizona ice T.
- 51:47Wait, did Arizona go up in price?
- 51:49Cruise Lux 7A UEC. It's you know what?
- 51:53Take it back, Take it back, reverse course, rewind, but
- 51:59everything in the. But in all seriousness, there's
- 52:02too much money flying around everywhere.
- 52:06I feel like we're being a little robbed here.
- 52:09There's not enough sinks. We're getting one.
- 52:13We're getting one now though. We're letting that sink in.
- 52:19It's gonna be really interesting if, if, if engineering repairing
- 52:25and if like, let's say this becomes a major, major price
- 52:29sync or money sync, right? For every like 5 or 10 minutes
- 52:35of battling you're going to do, you might have to go out and do
- 52:39a a job space job like mining or or bounty hunting for a couple
- 52:44of hours to make the money to be able to afford to go battle it.
- 52:51They did say combat was to be expensive.
- 52:55Combat was going to be expensive.
- 52:57That's got to be a deterrent for people, just, you know.
- 53:00That's another another reason. Oh, run away, this is.
- 53:03I can't afford to fight you right now.
- 53:05Yeah, because here's the thing. If.
- 53:06Combat baby needs shoes. Being clubbed Being seal clubbed
- 53:10is expensive. True.
- 53:14Right, it's it's. Right now the insurance system
- 53:18is still the same, so you're going to spawn back in with your
- 53:21fresh ship. Well, I mean, that's probably
- 53:26going to be the thing, you know, why repair it?
- 53:29I can just fraud it and be right back in it.
- 53:33It just blown up and get a new one.
- 53:34Yeah, that's still going to be a problem for this foreseeable
- 53:37future until we do get insurance updates.
- 53:42Yeah, but also they're probably not confident that's stable
- 53:46enough. Oh yeah, they're not going to be
- 53:48fair. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:52So is there anything to my my just targeted at my 2 gentlemen
- 53:56in the PTU here and get the oil in chat who says repair bills
- 54:01can be lowered by taking the time to repair what you can all.
- 54:05Right, makes sense. What a fucking dad advice.
- 54:11Do yourself God, change the oil yourself to save you on the
- 54:13money. Is is there anything in this
- 54:16patch that you were expecting or hoping for in the PTU right now
- 54:21that isn't there? Solar flares.
- 54:26Yeah, solar flares. What did you why did you expect
- 54:30that? Because we played.
- 54:31This as if I remember right there type engineering.
- 54:36OK, Yeah. I could have been wrong but and
- 54:39I think that might have been too much to to.
- 54:41Deal with I guess. We haven't seen what the ship is
- 54:45yet. We have no real indication of
- 54:48what this patch's ship is. There's some hints of what it
- 54:54might be. And tune out now for the next 5
- 54:57seconds while I say the name. But OK, good.
- 55:02They've tuned out. It was the Apollo Hermes that
- 55:07was hinted at in previous leaks. Is that another medical ship?
- 55:13No, it's supposedly cargo variant of the Apollo.
- 55:20Yeah, it's it's the Apollo medical ship that we have, but
- 55:24it's a cargo variant. So instead of the Med beds in
- 55:27those modules, it's just probably cargo space.
- 55:30Maybe the whole inside is cleared and it's just one big
- 55:33cargo elevator. Which is frankly kind of a
- 55:36boring use of the chassis, but we'll see.
- 55:41Like that's that's only sort of vaguely been into that and
- 55:44there's not been any new indication of it yet in this
- 55:48batch. But I don't know, I was hoping
- 55:50for maybe something a little more interesting.
- 55:53I mean, the Apollo's a cool ship, but yeah.
- 55:55It's fine. Some of these variants, you
- 55:58know, like they feel, you just feel like they're like they're
- 56:01doing it, you know? Easiest, easiest way out.
- 56:05Lowest hanging fruit you know. Yeah, I like the do the cargo on
- 56:08Olimox. It's like OK this.
- 56:12Is I'm not. I've got a question that's kind
- 56:14of engineering adjacent, but also medical.
- 56:21Oh, so now that we're getting these engineering stations and
- 56:26whatnot, what about ships that have a Med bed?
- 56:31I've never seen anywhere. Maybe I've just overlooked it,
- 56:35where you know your little Med gel goo.
- 56:38Is there anywhere you can tell how full that is or how empty
- 56:42it? Is yeah in the top right of the
- 56:44medical panel. Oh, you have to actually go into
- 56:48the medical panel. Yeah, you got to look at the
- 56:51screen and it's got like 100 out of 200 or 200 out of 200
- 56:56depending on like the size of the bed.
- 56:58Is it super obvious because or I must be just missing it?
- 57:02You know it would be super cool wicket if if you had a a Med
- 57:05goo, a Med goo cylinder and you could see the goo from like
- 57:10under the bed this. Is glowing.
- 57:13Well, I'm. I'm, I'm thinking, you know,
- 57:16even though that's medical, but that isn't that also part of
- 57:19engineering as part of the ship function?
- 57:21Shouldn't that shouldn't that be included in the engineering
- 57:25console somewhere in the MFD? Maybe I could see it like once
- 57:31we get more functions of a ship, I guess is where to put it
- 57:37because like engineering in its current form is focused on just
- 57:44the state of the survivability parts of the ship.
- 57:49But I, I kind of feel like we should, that should be like
- 57:51split off to another panel, like a status panel maybe of some
- 57:56kind. That's like looking at all of
- 57:59the other that's. Just I think it should be like a
- 58:04like a progress bar, like somewhere really evident on the
- 58:08bed because how many times have has your goo run out and you
- 58:12couldn't spawn back at the bed? Yeah, that makes sense.
- 58:16And if you have like 3 beds in a row and we'll say one of them
- 58:20doesn't have goo and you're just walking in there, you want to
- 58:22see right away which bed has goo.
- 58:24Yeah, that's the thing. You can, you can.
- 58:27You only have to click in. You only have to click into the
- 58:30MFD itself. It shows it you just.
- 58:33Look at it. Well, wiki you got to.
- 58:35You got to work harder. Use those eyes, old man.
- 58:39Well, I, you know, unlike some of you, I don't die that much.
- 58:45OK, true. I would people around me to I
- 58:49got I have friends that res me. Up.
- 58:51Your friends are falling down all around you, Yeah.
- 58:54I would like a light, some sort of light that's like if this is
- 58:57red, the bed is like got a red. The bed is dead.
- 59:00If it's red, it's dead. Oh, just change the yellow
- 59:04color. Change the color.
- 59:05Yellow. It's half green.
- 59:07It's good for goo. Well, we're getting very much in
- 59:10the caveman. Oh, color good, color bad.
- 59:12But like sometimes. That's what they're doing
- 59:14though. They're doing that with the
- 59:15doors. Yeah, it's like those caveman
- 59:18holograms on the door traffic lights.
- 59:20Red, yellow and blue. Or red, yellow and green.
- 59:22What am I saying? Blue.
- 59:25What? Kind of blue traffic lights you
- 59:27got up there. The fancy ones, man, they're
- 59:30bespoke. Bespoke traffic lights.
- 59:34I I I'm color blind so I probably wouldn't see those.
- 59:39And then another thing, the fire extinguishers, I know they have
- 59:43a, a, a meter on them when you're holding them to indicate
- 59:47the fullness of the fire extinguisher.
- 59:49And then the display tells you the temperature.
- 59:51Is that correct? The number it when the fire
- 59:55extinguisher is on the wall and it's a little cubby.
- 59:59Is there a indicator that you can see to see if it's full or
- 1:00:03empty? I don't think so, but I also
- 1:00:10don't know, 'cause when my fire exchanger ran out on the PTUI,
- 1:00:14just kind of put it back on and ran off, I didn't like look at
- 1:00:17it. But does recharge over time,
- 1:00:20right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:23I don't know how fast. I don't think it's that fast.
- 1:00:27No, it can't be too fast or else you can just spam it.
- 1:00:31They. They'd have to have like some
- 1:00:34some some limitations here Wiki. You just want to be walking
- 1:00:37around. You want to see bars?
- 1:00:38You want to see charts? You want to see numbers?
- 1:00:41Colors. Colors.
- 1:00:44Yeah, I mean, what is it, 2955? I know we don't have tinted
- 1:00:50windows or sun visors in the in the cockpit, but you know
- 1:00:55anything to me in my mind, things that I take for granted
- 1:01:00even now and in today's everyday world outside of our beloved
- 1:01:04space fantasy, things that you kind of take for granted.
- 1:01:10And if they're going for more of that realistic field, these
- 1:01:12things seem like self-evident to me.
- 1:01:15Well, we are getting lamps. Oh.
- 1:01:21So all right, that requires. Yeah, take it away with lamps
- 1:01:25only on open comms radio. I can't remember what the
- 1:01:29acronym exactly stands for. Light amplified something
- 1:01:33something. Yeah, but it's supposed to be
- 1:01:37sort of our way to, it's supposed to be our night vision,
- 1:01:40essentially. So for, for ships, it's supposed
- 1:01:43to be our night vision for ships.
- 1:01:44So we can finally see in the freaking dark.
- 1:01:47Because how many years has it been?
- 1:01:49And we how many time, how many times has it been when you're
- 1:01:54flying along and you crash because it's dark all the time?
- 1:02:01So. I mean theory never.
- 1:02:02Supposed to work with? Yeah, I'm sure you've never
- 1:02:05crashed in the. Dark.
- 1:02:06Not once. Not a single time.
- 1:02:09I'm always, I'm always pinging. Well, yeah, you gotta.
- 1:02:12Do that now. I got on my flick on my stick.
- 1:02:15Yeah, I got one on my throttle. Yeah, all the time.
- 1:02:19My. Fancy new throttle?
- 1:02:20I'm like man I wish I could just have this ping like permanently
- 1:02:25like like some kind of like green pink screen so I can
- 1:02:28always see the outline of the of the ground didn't.
- 1:02:31Have y'all ever play the Heavy Gear franchise?
- 1:02:35Heavy gear. Heavy gear.
- 1:02:37No. All right, so it was a MEC game
- 1:02:41from like the 90s and was actually a very interesting
- 1:02:45product of I think it was Activision not getting license
- 1:02:49to battle tech. So they were like, all right,
- 1:02:52we're going to make our own Mecca game franchise with
- 1:02:56blackjack and hookers. It was pretty good, but it had a
- 1:03:00low light mode that was kind of like green because everyone
- 1:03:07thinks that's what all of my vision is.
- 1:03:09It's green. But it was very cool and I want
- 1:03:14something and it had the cool lines of low light engaged and
- 1:03:18such a cool game with they had night vision down and that was
- 1:03:22in the 90s. It was also from the 90's, the
- 1:03:26movie heavyweights. Did you see that movie?
- 1:03:32No. Brock, Rob, you ever seen
- 1:03:35heavyweights? Can't say I have.
- 1:03:37What wicked. What?
- 1:03:41OK, if you've seen heavyweights, write your review of
- 1:03:44heavyweights in the comments below.
- 1:03:47If you've made it this far, Drake loves it.
- 1:03:50Tav Tav loves heavyweights. I just watched it again tonight.
- 1:03:54It does not have good reviews. To be fair, none none of those
- 1:03:59movies in the 90s have good reviews.
- 1:04:01Major Payne, The Sandlot, The Indian in the Cupboard.
- 1:04:06This. Was a Disney movie.
- 1:04:09Oh, yeah, they do. Disney made a lot of bangers in
- 1:04:11the day that they Yeah, yeah, they do not age well.
- 1:04:16If listen, if you have a Disney Plus, you can pop in the right
- 1:04:20now, you can watch Heavyweights. You won't be disappointed.
- 1:04:25Well, I just finished Strange Brew, which had a Rick Moranis
- 1:04:31finish that before you got. Rick Moranis.
- 1:04:34Yeah, Rick Moranis. Strange goo.
- 1:04:36Strange brew. He makes what's he He's an
- 1:04:40alchemist or he's a potion maker or something.
- 1:04:43He's kind of a fuck up drinker with his brother.
- 1:04:47They're just, they drink a lot of beer and their whole thing is
- 1:04:51being Canadian and drinking beer.
- 1:04:57That that sounds just sounds like a life, doesn't sound like
- 1:05:00a movie. It it's, it's, it's there's a
- 1:05:03plot to it. It's, it's not, it's not an
- 1:05:06amazing movie, honestly, but it's got Rick Moranis and Dave
- 1:05:12Thomas as the main characters and, and it's got Max Vaughn's
- 1:05:18shit. How do I say his last name?
- 1:05:20Sido. Sido yeah, he is he is the bad
- 1:05:24guy in it. He and actually they
- 1:05:26specifically wrote that role for him and it's just kind of this
- 1:05:31somewhat low budget Canadian comedy and they managed to get a
- 1:05:36famous Swedish actor and he was just coming off of doing oh, his
- 1:05:43his the the 7th Seal. Yeah, which was like one of his
- 1:05:48most well known films. Please tell me you'll have in
- 1:05:53the 7th. Seal No, never do I feel, you
- 1:05:57know, I feel like in a lot of ways, none of us, we, we all had
- 1:06:02very divergent childhoods. You know, I was watching
- 1:06:08heavyweights and Kadoyle writes. But she's correct about that.
- 1:06:11Heavyweights is part of dodgeball history, so just the
- 1:06:15background here. What I was talking about, the
- 1:06:17bad guy in Heavyweights who runs the summer camp at the end gets
- 1:06:20defeated and his character arc is that then he changes his name
- 1:06:25and becomes the bad guy in dodgeball because they're the
- 1:06:27same character. That is, it's a fascinating
- 1:06:33connection between those movies. I mean, they have different
- 1:06:36names, but like, he changes the name, but it's like the same
- 1:06:38character. And he has, like, a thing about
- 1:06:43being overweight and like, it's literally, it's awesome.
- 1:06:48And how to traumatize. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:49It's all about traumatizing children and stuff.
- 1:06:52A lot of it tracks. I think Ben Stiller had a had a
- 1:06:57plan in mind. I think I'm just going to keep
- 1:06:59playing this guy forever. But that said, we we all got
- 1:07:04here to the same place, you know?
- 1:07:08Yeah. Old and and computer games
- 1:07:16speaking. Of what?
- 1:07:16It's my birthday tomorrow. Happy birthday, you're the only
- 1:07:2125. Yeah, only 25.
- 1:07:28What do you What do you want for your birthday?
- 1:07:32The camaraderie of friends and family.
- 1:07:41All right, I'm not going to be there.
- 1:07:48Very well, Very well done, Well done.
- 1:07:51Just getting just getting a little bite out.
- 1:07:53But then I'll I'll be back for that.
- 1:07:55So yeah, I'll be there. Very good, Very good.
- 1:08:01Also an interest. Also an interest.
- 1:08:03Also an interest. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:08:06We're going to go to an arcade tomorrow for your birthday and I
- 1:08:09hope. We're going to tapas.
- 1:08:12Oh, I thought we were. Oh, OK.
- 1:08:17The the arcade is the bar. I'm excited.
- 1:08:19Yeah, you're right. You're right.
- 1:08:20I got them confused. That's a good thing.
- 1:08:21Oh it's fine hobo. It's this jar.
- 1:08:23Jar is going to be really disappointed.
- 1:08:26I want to play Frogger. We'll we'll play Frogger in
- 1:08:30January when we have the bar. We'll play Frogger tomorrow.
- 1:08:33Will be fancy tapas. OK, Yeah, yeah, I get it.
- 1:08:36I get it, I get it. You're going to.
- 1:08:39Show up to the wrong place tomorrow, weren't you?
- 1:08:42Yeah, maybe it's. Going to show up to the right
- 1:08:45place. Yeah, I'd be there.
- 1:08:47I'd be having a. Boy, it's like I'm at the
- 1:08:49topless place. All right, all right, all right,
- 1:08:53yes. To have Goonies and it it was
- 1:08:56all right. Goonies was great.
- 1:08:58Goonies was one of did you guys watch Goonies?
- 1:09:00It's. Been a while.
- 1:09:03I think I did, yeah. You've seen it though you think
- 1:09:05it did. I don't remember I.
- 1:09:08Look, I've seen so many movies I can't remember.
- 1:09:10I don't even remember anymore. I've seen Goonies now.
- 1:09:12I didn't see it. I looked up Heavyweights.
- 1:09:16I've seen that too, but I don't remember it.
- 1:09:18It's been a long time ago. You should.
- 1:09:19You should give it a rewatch. Brockie.
- 1:09:21Rob, did you see Goonies? No, I was not a more.
- 1:09:27Uncommon. Goonies a girly.
- 1:09:31I remember watching it like half watching it on a trip or
- 1:09:34something and I wasn't fond of it but.
- 1:09:37What I've seen, I've seen all these movies like 1000 times,
- 1:09:42like Goonies maybe a dozen times, Heavyweights, I probably,
- 1:09:45I may have seen 1000 times. I had the VHS and we ran that
- 1:09:49tape. I watched it today and I haven't
- 1:09:53seen it maybe in like 20 years. And I was quoting it left and
- 1:09:56right, dude, Speaking of Speaking of good quotes.
- 1:09:59So it's the end of the shows is where we go around and we we
- 1:10:02talk to our guests and we ask him one simple question.
- 1:10:06Broccoli. Rob, is there anything you'd
- 1:10:08like to say to CAG, Chris Roberts or the people on the
- 1:10:10Internet? Yeah, Chris Roberts, keep up the
- 1:10:14good work. Keep making the game that we all
- 1:10:18wanted to play in the 1st place and yeah, keep doing your thing.
- 1:10:26Wick anything you want to say to Chris Roberts, CIG or the people
- 1:10:28on the Internet. Chris, Sandy, I know you're not
- 1:10:31going to listen to this again. Fire extinguisher, death packs.
- 1:10:36We're all about it. What happened?
- 1:10:38Don't let us down. You can still do it.
- 1:10:41Yeah, yeah. We'll have to.
- 1:10:42We'll we'll we'll have to do something about this.
- 1:10:44We'll have to make something. It's.
- 1:10:46Unbelievable. We'll make a petition.
- 1:10:47It's yeah, it's there's, we're going to do something about
- 1:10:50this. Could you have also, could you
- 1:10:54imagine somebody's holding the fire extinguisher?
- 1:10:57The boarding party comes in. Gravity is no.
- 1:11:00The gravity generator on the ship is busted.
- 1:11:04Now there's a boarding party. There's a guy in the
- 1:11:06engineering. He's squirting his fire
- 1:11:08extinguisher, trying to put out the fire.
- 1:11:10And the pirates that are boarding his ship, they shoot at
- 1:11:13him. They hit his fire extinguisher,
- 1:11:15punch a hole through it. Now he goes spinning out of
- 1:11:17control. Cinema.
- 1:11:23Anyway, yeah, dude, yeah, I mean, even you could use it as
- 1:11:26an as an escape device, Yeah. Anyway, cell phone, the airlock
- 1:11:32or whatever. My imagination is too grand for
- 1:11:36Chris Roberts vision. They don't know what they have.
- 1:11:39They really, you know. Well, hobo, we did it.
- 1:11:45Another one in the books, another one for your birthday.
- 1:11:50Yay, there you go. There you go, There you go.
- 1:11:53Well, do you know how this usually works here?
- 1:11:55At the end of the show, you got to play us out.
