- 0:00Name's Mick. Mick Brew from being Dirty Brewer, also run Breehouse Productions.
- 0:06Currently just doing a fair bit of stuff in the next six months, so
- 0:11really looking forward to it. You got it, Mack, Thanks for joining
- 0:14us the South Made Runner. Thanks for having me. Oh wait, so
- 0:18Dirty Brew a part of Bruffest twenty three, which will be held at Brisbane's
- 0:21Soapbox Brewery this Saturday August at fifth Mate. So how you feel about it.
- 0:26It's a bit of a bit of a big thing to pull together.
- 0:28Yeah, it's um, it's been a bit of an effort, that's for
- 0:31sure, pulling what's left to my hair out. So I've done bigger festivals
- 0:37and they've come together a lot easier, so this one's definitely been a lot
- 0:41of work, but I'm hoping it will pay off essentially. So there's a
- 0:46good fair number of tickets sold, so really looking forward to the day.
- 0:50And the brewery has actually done a special beverage for me for the day as
- 0:55well, so we're doing a Rattlesnakes Snake bite on tap. Oh what's that?
- 1:00Just a beer, beer and cider together mixed together, shot with a
- 1:06shot of red cordial in it. Just just to keep you going to Red
- 1:10Cordial. Yeah, that's right. You've got a heap of local bands playing,
- 1:15including Tetriman with the Hollow, Ancient Remained, Slaver, Dissoners, and
- 1:19more So, who are you most looking forward to to playing without that bill
- 1:22insane Um? Well, I'm looking forward to playing with everyone because obviously I
- 1:26put the bill together, so I hand picked bands that I like personally,
- 1:30and but I'm looking forward to seeing Tetriment get back. It's their first gig
- 1:34back with their new drummer, so that should be really good. With the
- 1:38Hollow are really kicking goals at the momentum, and they're always a good live
- 1:42show as well. And actually the guys in effigy from Bunderberg they recite to
- 1:49Behold, they're right. Yeah, looking forward to it. Oh, now,
- 1:55I've never been in the Soapower Spurer before. Most I'm not sure what
- 1:57the layoud is there, but is this sober one stage two? Just one.
- 2:00There's a massive room upstairs. It's a big space stairs that basically created
- 2:07into a lot of music atmosphere. So really looking forward to being involved getting
- 2:15everyone in there, and it's the space can hold about four hundred people.
- 2:20So it's um, it's definitely a good, good space. Yeah. And
- 2:24of course, as we said before, mate, like you organize this festival
- 2:28every year, so how's the trajectory means you've seen a growing every year?
- 2:32It is growing every year. Um, so each year we sort of we
- 2:37do different venue. Um, next year we're actually going to multiple cities,
- 2:42which is already in the works at the moment as well. Um, so
- 2:46I'm going to do brue Fest in probably three different cities, which I'm crazy
- 2:51to do, so you would know, you'd know yourself. That's a that's
- 2:54a headache. So we'll just we'll see how we go with that. But
- 2:58yeah, it's it's definitely growing as well. With my new year's shows that
- 3:01I do, they're obviously growing as well. This year's one is going to
- 3:07be bigger than last year, so yeah, I'm looking forward to that too.
- 3:13So what's actually involved with putting on a show on this and playing at
- 3:15the same time? They're pretty much what all the others are painted the arts
- 3:19and putting them both together. So you just ask for headache, what I
- 3:24spake them like months and months apart, so space out the eggs a little
- 3:34bit. So everything coming to the crunch for this one. So as soon
- 3:38as this is over, it's basically I'm going to be announcing the New Year
- 3:43End of Year festival, probably at the end of August, so it gives
- 3:46me a bit of leeway to breathe after this one and get everything sorted.
- 3:51I've already got the lineup pretty much locked in, just waiting for one or
- 3:54two confirmations, so you kind of just trickle along that. That's the hardest
- 4:00part getting the lineup, and I pride myself on putting together a good lineup
- 4:04where you literally have to You want people to be there from the beginning,
- 4:10and you want people to look at the lineup and go, I'm going from
- 4:14the start, I'm going to be there all day. I need to be
- 4:15there all day. So and that's what it's about, and that's helping the
- 4:18venues out as well. Yeah, we started touch on it's a little bit
- 4:23more and we've made a bit of a joke of it, but it's there's
- 4:26a bit of serious nature of the like when you're booking a show, like
- 4:29there's someone like yourself that knows so many bands and people in bands, Like
- 4:32how hard is it to not just book your mates. You know, like
- 4:34you've got to be objective and trying book bands and other people are going to
- 4:38like too, But you also want to be like, there's no point booking
- 4:41the show unless you can have bands you like there as well. Yeah,
- 4:44and exactly right, duck between a hard plane. Yeah, get a bit
- 4:47in booking similars a lot of the time. Oh it's so exactly why because
- 4:54they still ticket they're selling the tickets to the show. And then you have
- 4:58bands that hit you up for shows. You put them on once and they
- 5:01sell like hardly any tickets. Why would you want to put them on again?
- 5:06I mean for me, it's it's not a money making exercise. I
- 5:10mean, yeah, I'd like a little bit on the side. It's great,
- 5:12as does anyone. But at the end of the day, if it's
- 5:15a good gig and it doesn't cost me anything and everyone has a great time,
- 5:18it's a win. And if bands need to play to a good crowd,
- 5:24and if you're a band coming in and you're playing and you're not selling
- 5:27your tickets, any promoter's not going to book you again, not just me.
- 5:30So it's I mean it depends we do book sell tickets. So I
- 5:36mean We had nearly four hundred New Year's last year, so I can't argue
- 5:41with that something, right, brother, Yeah, you're also off up to
- 5:46glads that mate, for the first ever medal first er November. There's twenty
- 5:49fifth with bands like which Grinder played records, Drink Killers, Azrael, Piston,
- 5:54Pisted Wall. That should be a ripper. Good to see him taking
- 5:57something this up north a little bit. It's great. They originally usked to
- 6:01plan it was in August and they had to change date. We couldn't plays,
- 6:06you know, with kids that weekend. But then I saw the day
- 6:13to change and I went, oh, hang on a minute, I don't
- 6:15we don't have kids that weekend, all right? So I got in contact
- 6:18with him and he said, oh, a couple of bands have actually pulled
- 6:20out, so we'd love to have you on. Send me a contract and
- 6:24it's a it's awesome. We're super keen to get up there. He's been
- 6:28trying to get us to go up for about seven years, I think,
- 6:31so finally the planets have alonged. However, let let's take the focus of
- 6:39everyone else for a second, mate, and check it on Dirty bree mate.
- 6:43You know the starboarding shows let's be real about it. Mate. So
- 6:46for those who haven't seen Dirty Bree before, Mate, run us through a
- 6:48typical live show. Typical live show for Dirty Brew is just chaotic. So
- 6:55from the opening note, opening riff, really we're just we don't stand still.
- 7:00We don't want to stand still because we're there to put on a show
- 7:02and we've always maintained that. And it's just basically we do shots on stage,
- 7:08we interact with the crowd. We'll abuse the crowd of two and we'll
- 7:13cop it back just as good as we can give it um and it's just
- 7:15basically just full of energy. It's just how really we're there to put on
- 7:23a show. At the end, if people walk away up, now,
- 7:27those really on a show. They sucked, but man, they put on
- 7:30a like that's all we can ask for that we're remembered for the show.
- 7:34The music is not that bad really, but they try. It's also got
- 7:42the visual I said it going on, you go man like you got your
- 7:46jackets with you, with your back patches and stuff on. Similar to black
- 7:48label societies. Is that well that's modeled up. Yeah, well it's it
- 7:51was more of a we needed to try and create something I'm not going to
- 7:57say different because obviously Black Label do it. But it was just something that
- 8:01I'm a massive Black Label fan, and most of the band is um and
- 8:05it was just something we thought we wanted to do. So then we all
- 8:07sort of had kind of like a uniform, so we knew what we were
- 8:11wearing. And it seems to mash and gel together really really well, and
- 8:16it makes us look the part, really so we're really stoked with how they
- 8:22came out so and how they and a lot of people have said to us,
- 8:24where can we get the jackets? And we go, just buy a
- 8:26vest and make it. We just sell the patches. We've got the patches
- 8:31for sale, so we just tell people to just buy a vest and make
- 8:35it themselves. It's easy, all right, brother. All that's about all
- 8:39our Give us a bit more info on Briefast this weekend to wake at people,
- 8:43buy tickets and find out more information So Briefast this weekend. It's August
