- 2:09show, Canal County Commission President Kent Carper. He's here. Plus Amanda Baron,
- 2:14a good friend from WWKTV thirteen, is going to be here. And
- 2:16I mean it's on a special mission today. Normally I have Amand on for
- 2:21various things from time to time, but she's doing something a little bit different
- 2:23today. She's actually going to give us an update. I don't want to
- 2:27spoil it yet, but Amanda will be with us a little bit later on.
- 2:30Plus, of course, lots to get to in the news, the
- 2:31big announcement coming from Governor Justice at five o'clock this afternoon from the Greenbriars to
- 2:38his future plans. We know he's running for Senate, so I want to
- 2:39get into that a little bit later on. Plus several other things to get
- 2:43too as well. But I have to say, in the nearly three years
- 2:46since I've been doing this show, I've had all sorts of guests on the
- 2:49show, from political guests, political figures and athletes and seniors, actors,
- 2:53ministers, authors, law enforcement. But I think I can honestly say this
- 2:59is the first time on this show, and I'm pretty sure the first time
- 3:01in my thirty five years in this business that I have a real life reptile
- 3:06expert with me. Eddie McKee is his name, and he is the CEO
- 3:09of something called the Reptile House Rescue. Andy, Good morning, Thanks for
- 3:15me morning, thanks for having me, and thanks for bringing in a guest
- 3:19this morning. As you promised, you brought a friend with you. And
- 3:23I've actually just posted a picture a couple of moments ago. I'll give if
- 3:27I have it, I took it. I don't know if I posted in.
- 3:29I'll get to it here in a couple of moments. You can see
- 3:30what we're talking about. And he's got a beautiful creature, a beautiful friend
- 3:34with you. Tell us about to who you got here with us here?
- 3:36So we brought Mimi. She is very used to the limelight. She's one
- 3:39of our educational ambassadors that we have at our place, and she is a
- 3:44South American Boa constrictor. Okay, and how exactly did you come to acquire
- 3:49Mimi? So, Mimi is one of our rescued animals. She was surrendered
- 3:53to us from her owner. Who loves her so much. In the two
- 3:59years that we've had her, her owner actually comes back from South Carolina to
- 4:02just come sit with her, so we h She wanted to make sure that
- 4:06Mimi went to a place where she was going to be loved and taken care
- 4:10of. So we we have her there and she's one of our our best
- 4:14buddies. Well, I mean a beautiful snake. And I know people are
- 4:16saying there's no such thing. Well, I like animals of all. I'm
- 4:19not big on people, I'll be honest with you, but but animals.
- 4:21But animals I love. And Mimi's been the hit around and I found that
- 4:25with snakes that it tends to be oh, I want to pet it.
- 4:30Oh, get it the heck away from me. And that's pretty much.
- 4:31And that goes across gender lines too. You know. It's like Chris Lawrence,
- 4:35mister met mister outdoors in here. Chris said, keep that blank snake
- 4:40away from me. That's exactly what he said. Um, and I going
- 4:43to save it. In the interest of being a good coworker, I said
- 4:45an email out around the building last night telling people that just in case they
- 4:47don't like snakes, I was gonna have one in the studio this morning.
- 4:50Only in radio do you send out an emails say beware, we have snakes
- 4:55on purpose in the studio this morning. But there's a reason you're here other
- 4:58than just to show off the snake. By the way, I did just
- 5:00post that picture in Dave Allen Radio. If you want to see Mimi,
- 5:03the snake we're talking about this morning's posted on Dave Allen Radio and Facebook.
- 5:08You're the reptile guy, exactly how does one become a reptile guy? Having
- 5:13reptiles? Really? I mean, I've been very fortunate to have been around
- 5:17these my entire life. My dad actually started the herpetology program at Huntington High
- 5:23School in nineteen eighty six. I was born in eighty five, and I
- 5:26had no chance. Yeah, really, and so I've been around these things
- 5:29my entire life. Ended up teaching middle school science for a few years and
- 5:34developing our herpetology program, which is the study of reptiles and amphibians, And
- 5:39we found a need for animals to be rescued. West Virginia doesn't really have
- 5:46or didn't have a dedicated reptile and amphibian rescue, so we we filled that
- 5:50need and that's been going on for almost three years now, and we've seen
- 5:54steady growth and that's why I had you here, Andy and I in full
- 5:57disclosure, just Matt. Last week we went at this same event over in
- 6:00Putnam County at a business after hours event with the Putnham County Chamber of Commerce.
- 6:03And Andy and I met last week in Windfield at that particular event,
- 6:09and you're telling about this program that you have going. That's really why I
- 6:12have you here today, other than just to scare the co workers, not
- 6:15you the snake, but tell us what you're doing over in Valley Park.
- 6:19Yeah, so this is a major announcement. I talked about our our growth
- 6:24and we have started off as a very small rescue and then we have moved
- 6:27into the Huntington Mall and turned an old Lane Bryant clothing store into a kind
- 6:32of a rescue zoo. And we are expanding and moving into the former Commons
- 6:38building in Valley Park in Hurricane and we are taking that entire building and turning
- 6:43it into what will now be known as the Zoology Zone Science Center, and
- 6:48this will be a hands on facility. We'll have our animals there. So
- 6:51the Reptile House and Rescue will be rebranding to encompass more areas of hands on
- 6:58science. But you know, definitely have our our exhibits out there with our
- 7:01more than eighty rescued animals um for the public to enjoy. We're very hands
- 7:06on. Um. I teach like I learn, and I'm a big add
- 7:11squirrel. So if I don't have, you know, something catching my attention,
- 7:14I'm looking for something shiny. So um. You know when you have
- 7:16a six and a half foot Boa constrictor around you that attends to grab attention.
- 7:23Yeah, I got the attention of the boss Dale Cooper, who came
- 7:25downstairs to see the snake. I was telling him, Coop, I just
- 7:29never know how people are with snakes. I mean, some people are like,
- 7:30yeah, I love him, Yeah, I get it the hell away
- 7:32from me. It's it's one of the two. I love the snakes.
- 7:34As long as he's there, you go, yeah, say that again.
- 7:39I don't think we had young Mic there said as long as he's handling it,
- 7:42I'm good. Okay, it's it's a it's an attractive snake. Though,
- 7:46as far as snakes got that, you don't say every day. She
- 7:48said, thank you In snakes she said, Now, would your daughter's just
- 7:51something that your daughter would like? You have a young one, would she
- 7:54like this? Man? I think she would like to look at it.
- 7:56I'm not sure if she would really weird with texture, So I'm not sure
- 8:01if she would. But she's young enough to where she I don't think she
- 8:03would be scared. I think that she would be interested. Your wife might
- 8:05be a different story. Yeah, yeah, my wife would definitely be a
- 8:09different story. I think my kid might be adventurous enough, though she might
- 8:11take a swimming well. And that's the goal. That's the goal of what
- 8:13we want to do. We want to try to destigmatize these these animals.
- 8:18Um, and we have something for everyone. We have snakes and lizards and
- 8:20alligators and turtles and this is all couper case she missed that. This is
- 8:22all going in Valley Park in Putnam County there. Uh, and there they're
- 8:26gonna be bringing school groups in and things of that nature. Yeah. I
- 8:28think it's fantastic. I think that's I love that type of outreach where you
- 8:31get hands on with animals and things. I think it's outstanding and my kid
- 8:35would absolutely love it, there's no doubt. Well, that's the whole idea
- 8:37behind this game. We're talking with Andy McKee, the reptile guy who has
- 8:41Mimi with us and if you want to see Mimi's pictures posted on the Dave
- 8:45Allen Radio on Facebook. UM how much UM does a love and appreciation for
- 8:52wildlife go hand in hand with conservation because I know your champions talk about that
- 8:56absolutely. UM our mission statement is quite literally to inspire conservation through education,
- 9:03and I truly believe that, you know, education is the key to not
- 9:05only saving these animals but their environment and UM to recognize the different areas of
- 9:11science that go into UM our entire biosphere. UM So, our our goal
- 9:18here is to inspire that conservational aspect through UM educational outreach, hands on immersive
- 9:24learning UM outreach that we that we currently do so. UM. You know
- 9:28it's extremely important, not just for UM, you know Mimi in South America,
- 9:35but right here on our own backyard. UM. You know, you
- 9:37start to mess with the ecosystem and and don't understand what conservation truly is UM.
- 9:43And it's a hard concept to grasp if you're not actively looking at anything
- 9:48else. Yeah, exactly. UM. So, so that's our goal is
- 9:52to is to truly inspire conservation through education both wildlife and environmental Annie mckies Whether

- 10:05dot us are called three or four four four zero one one zero one.
- 10:09Now we talked about rescues Andy and how often does this happen? Somebody gets
- 10:13an idea and it doesn't have to be a snake, It could be a
- 10:16rapt I mean, heck, it happens with dogs and cats. You know,
- 10:18they get an idea all this would be a really cool animal to have,
- 10:22but then something happens along the way that they either don't want to take
- 10:26care of it, don't realize how much responsibility goes into it. How many
- 10:30times do you guys get that? Oh? Every day? That is truly
- 10:33the reason we have four rescued alligators currently. People get them as little babies
- 10:37and they're like alligators or alligators American alligators. Yea, Now, where does
- 10:43it exactly does one obtain an alligator? You know, they're legal, believe
- 10:46it or not, in the state of West Virginia, it is legal to
- 10:48own an American alligator, a king cobra, a kangaroo, and a giraffe
- 10:52all in the same house. But you know, it's like it's like like
- 10:56a one house Noah's Ark. But just because you can doesn't mean you should
- 11:00exactly. So all four of them came from four different households, and they
- 11:03came to us and said, well, got too big, and well,
- 11:07well, I mean it's an alligator. What do you think, right,
- 11:09Like, yeah, I mean it's it's just like having a kid. It's
- 11:11a good girl up right. Eventually, you know, the same thing with
- 11:15aquatic turtles. People used to be able to get them for a quarter down
- 11:16at the beach and you know, before they were outlawed and they don't realize
- 11:20they get a you know, as big around as a dinner plate and lived
- 11:22for fifty years and pooping on godly amount. So I mean it's described every
- 11:26radio person I know. But go ahead, get well you know it happens.
- 11:30Yeah, but um, but you know, so they need an outlet.
- 11:33So we were very happy to be able to um fill that need and
- 11:37um and to be able to continue to u zipun scale. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:43I see what you did there with the Okay, I appreciate that.
- 11:46All right, So let's talk about Mimi before we let you go. What
- 11:48kind of care goes into having and tell us about Mimi bi again, people
- 11:52can look at a picture of Dave Allen Radio on Facebook. Tell us about
- 11:54Mimi the age and what her what her story was, and what kind of
- 11:58care goes into taking care of me. So Mini is um. You know,
- 12:01she's a full grown boa constrictor. UM. These are native to South
- 12:05America. So the habitat has to mimic their natural habitat because that's how they
- 12:11were created to thrive in that type of environment. So different humidity requirements,
- 12:16different heat requirements, native to that area. UM. But she came to
- 12:20us about two and a half years ago. She's about seven or eight right
- 12:24now. But her owner, UM was moved closer to her her family.
- 12:30Yeah down south Yeah and um, but she still comes to visit, comes
- 12:33to visit almost every couple months and just just to hang hang out with a
- 12:37snipe. Set her up a little rocking chair in the back and she just
- 12:39grabs her and rocks and pets her and and and my uh and I knew
- 12:43absolutely nothing about this, but just what I witnessed out here when you guided
- 12:46the building this morning. Am I right and say that this particular creature seems
- 12:50to love people? I mean that is that of their nature? Because I
- 12:52mean I noticed that she was with with Leah, one of the young ladies
- 12:56who works out front. She was all about to lee and hanging out stuff.
- 12:58I mean, is that something that's they generally do? So, I
- 13:01mean that's a debate between you know, her petologists, is can they feel
- 13:05affection? Can they do they have the capacity or something like that. You
- 13:09know, the jury is kind of still out on that. I mean,
- 13:11I always liken it too. She likes we're like a big warm tree and
- 13:15they need warmth. So, but I do believe in the rescues that we've
- 13:20gotten, especially when we've rehabbed them and brought them back from near death.
- 13:24Um, that they do form a bond, That we do form a bond.
- 13:28And I'm convinced that some of ours absolutely know who we are. And
- 13:31some of my staff, Um, you know, some of the animals hate
- 13:35some of my staff and then love other part of my staff, just like
- 13:39other animals. Right, yeah, all right, So let's wrap it up
- 13:41and talk about what this project is. I know that you're working with the
- 13:43City of Hurricane on some things. Wrap it up, tell us about the
- 13:46county. Actually the county and obviously we have partnerships within Putnam County and Hurricane
- 13:52UM and we are actively looking for partners in conservation UM, so the zoology
- 13:58zone and science. We have a capital campaign of about one point seven five
- 14:03million dollars that we're going to be putting into this UM this facility over the
- 14:07next twelve months. So we really want to make this a destination location for
- 14:13not just the county, but the entire region to bring something new new industry,
- 14:18new business, new exciting educational opportunities for for our regions. So we're
- 14:24actively looking for UM, you know, partners in conservation through local leadership,
- 14:30UM, different grant foundations, UH, local businesses that want to be a
- 14:35part of this. You know, Valley Park has hundreds of thousands of people
- 14:39and come through their every single year and it's one hundred percent of the demographic
- 14:43that we serve, which is family and communities. So UM, you know,
- 14:48anything that we can do to be a good community partner UM. You
- 14:50know, we definitely want to want to expound on that Where can people learn
- 14:54more? Again? Um? So our new website is zoology zone dot org.
- 14:58So that is our new website shows how to get involved. I'm still
- 15:03working on it. It's just me working on it right now. One man
- 15:05show. Right, So I'll wear a lot of hats with some gaiters and
- 15:09snake stone and they're true. Yeah, trying not to get bit while working
- 15:11on the website. Has that ever happened? I mean, I know somebody.
- 15:13Have you ever been injured by one of these? Yeah? I do
- 15:16not recommend getting bit by an alligator. It's okay, all right. Note
- 15:20to self, do not do not get bit by an alligator? And Andy,
- 15:22I appreciate you being here, Thanks sir, all right. Five eighty

- 19:06you know, you know who's really excited about destigmatizing snake. Who's state House?
- 19:11Uh huh, I guess, I guess, I guess. But we
- 19:15are going to have a very interesting ride here. I do believe I do

- 20:03opportunity. It's an opportunity. All right, Well, we'll work on that
- 20:07a little bit later. I want to talk about some stuff going on the
- 20:11Valley. Big announcement earlier this week out of Institute. Talk about that.
- 20:14You know, that's that is an interesting thing. I think we broke ground
- 20:17at twenty seventeen. We had a terrible downturn in the economy, they had
- 20:22the pandemic. And then when I first heard, when I met with these
- 20:26folks, they were telling me that they were going to dissemble disensemble take apart
- 20:33a plant in Brazil and move it to the United States. I thought,
- 20:38this is public justice because we've been doing that in America for thirty forty years
- 20:44really and then, of course, I mean it just it became prohibitively expensive.
- 20:48And I will tell you this, that project almost was over, probably
- 20:52half a dozen times. My head is off to US Methanol. They hung
- 20:56in there. They toughed it out one quarter of a billion dollar investment in
- 21:04West Virginia in Kanaw County, and the Kanaw County Commission played a fairly significant
- 21:15a role in that. I actually personally signed their building permit, never done
- 21:19that before or since. It was controversial. We had protesters and people were
- 21:26complaining, and you know how that goes. And I absolutely understand the people
- 21:30that live in that community the concern they have. On the other hand,
- 21:33you know, this was at one time considered the chemical center of the world,
- 21:40and I think there's an opportunity to return to some of that. So
- 21:44for those that like to talk about creating jobs, we actually had a role
- 21:48in that. The fact that they asked me to represent commissioners sling Gun Commissioner
- 21:52Wheeler indicated the US Methanol does appreciate the local government. We helped them with
- 21:59the permitting process. We helped them get this done. Now someone says,
- 22:03well, they've only got sixty jobs. You've got to be kidding me.
- 22:07Those are big paying jobs, and about eighty percent of those job days are
- 22:11local folks they've hired. That's awesome. Nobody's talking about that. What's the
- 22:18timeline for this? I mean whenever? Yeah, okay, So I mean,
- 22:21are we going to add additional to that or what? Well, you
- 22:23know, this was called Liberty one, and originally we talked about Liberty two,
- 22:27and we were hoping to see that built. You know, perhaps even
- 22:33in the eastern part of the county, you know, the old DuPont plan
- 22:38area where Camors is and so forth. I don't think that's in play right
- 22:42now, but I will tell you this. We had the the Czech Republic
- 22:48press there. Now to think about this, as Virginia State University, we
- 22:52have two sitting United States Senators, we had the governor, we had International
- 23:00Press Corps and in a Low County commissioner and one Lowlei County commission And you
- 23:06know what, you can fit that in onto bow constructor Yeah, there you
- 23:08go, there's I mean, this is just one Commissioner of the big things
- 23:12that we've got going on in the Knaw Valley. I had Mayor case Ball
- 23:15from Nitro on earlier this week to talk about their new sports complex, and
- 23:18you guys, I know, we're still working out all the details in this
- 23:22Capital Sports Center being proposed for downtown Charleston. There's a lot of stuff going
- 23:26on here in the valley. Man, don't leave out Green Power, don't
- 23:29leave out the Tech Park. You know, the Tech Park. I give
- 23:33credit Senator Mansion, then Governor Mansion just got beat up pretty good about that
- 23:38when the state agreed to take that over all the all the geniuses compare said
- 23:44that would be a big failure. Tech Park is incredibly important to West Virginia
- 23:49and it's it's days or just ahead of us. So there are big things
- 23:53going on in Kanaw County and we're proud to be a small part of it.

- 24:12The last time we had you on the show, we talked about this
- 24:15deal with with with Breeze to get them flying in and out of West Virginia
- 24:18International Yeager Airport. To anything new to to throw in about that, well,
- 24:23other than it's it's the first plane hasn't landed yet. The original aircraft
- 24:30they were going to use, they decided that they couldn't use a bigger airplane
- 24:34becausure wouldn't be the market here. It's gonna be one hundred people. They've
- 24:38already changed the airplane to the eight to two zero A two twenty, which
- 24:44holds one hundred and thirty six, and they haven't hauled the first passenger out
- 24:48of here yet. And again we've got people now odd will never work and
- 24:52just be here for a while. Maybe so, but can't we just accept
- 24:56some good news occasionally? I think made a third first is when the flights
- 25:00acually start, we're gonna have a direct flight to Charleston, South Carolina.
- 25:06When's the last time we had a direct flight to Charleston, South Carolina?
- 25:08Day? No, I mean it's yeah, I remember when I do not
- 25:11when it wasn't never never, you know. Now, speaking of snakes,
- 25:18remember that movie the Snakes on the plays. There'll be no snakes on these
- 25:21plays, all right, So let's address that just for a moment before we
- 25:23let you go. There was a an op ed by a certain writer who
- 25:29I don't like to give credit for anything, or even mentioned his name on
- 25:32the air UH in the gazette mail this past week that was kind of taken
- 25:34to task the whole deal with breeze and what just wasn't totally happy with the
- 25:40whole deal. That should have been used elsewhere any kind to subsidized trains,
- 25:45Yeah, I mean Amtrak's subsidized. UH. Interstates are subsidized. Everything subsidized
- 25:52by the government. The bottom line is this, and I can explain.
- 25:56I heard the same thing when we fought very hard to bring in the direct
- 26:02flight to Houston. Here's how this works in the airline industry. It once
- 26:07they did deregulation. Things changed. When they deregulated airlines. It's more competitive
- 26:14market. Some of these flights simply need help to get started. We have
- 26:18what there's a technical name for. But here's how it works. The state
- 26:22of West Virginia will pay so much, and the Klkanny Commission will pay so
- 26:26much in the City of Charleston's in assuming it doesn't break even or loses money,
- 26:33it is possible it won't cost a dime. But at the same time,
- 26:37for our share mean the Kulcanty Commission, we have done this before.
- 26:41That's how we've brought in flights before. We've put in hundreds of thousands of
- 26:45dollars for advertising for flights. Let me tell you this, this isn't just
- 26:49about getting on an airplane for quality of life, although that's enough for me.
- 26:53That's how you bring people in here, that's how you get people to
- 26:56come back. But this is about an opportunity for tourism. I have got
- 27:00absolute confidence in Secretary Ruby, and I've got absolute confidence that Governor Justice is
- 27:07right on this, and we are proud of it, and I'm proud of
- 27:11it, and I think we'll be proven correct on this. The worst case
- 27:15scenario where we've got a lot of buzz going on nationally that we've got direct
- 27:19flights to Charleston, South Carolina, Like I tell everybody, do the Charleston's
- 27:25yet both of them, both of them, and I will say this about
- 27:27that, and I think We talked about this the last time that you were
- 27:30on the show. Is there's been a lot of you in people's mind.
- 27:33They say, oh, well I can fly here, or we can fly
- 27:36here. A lot of times it's not about outgoing, but it's about incoming.
- 27:38Commissioner's exactly what Commietary Ruby and Governor Justice is talking about. And that's
- 27:45what I have preached for over twenty years. We are a great opportunity for
- 27:52destination tourism. The Sports Complex, Shawnee Park, the new Federal Park in
- 27:59New Look at all the opportunities that people will come here to West Virginia if
- 28:04you can get him here by air, and this is going to work.
- 28:08This is a great opportunity. And yes there maybe some subsidy to it.
- 28:12Keith Carper is going to vote for that. I'm proud of that. And
- 28:17you know, for this one person complaining about it, I think he compared
- 28:22Breeze to Dollar General. I would have compared him to Parmore. Now,
- 28:29I don't know if people would that. Your advertiser, Yeah, well yeah,
- 28:33well they should like that, Well they should. You just got a
- 28:34free play. Well, this is West Virginia. What's wrong with that?
- 28:37Exactly right? All right, before we let you go, all right,
- 28:41big announcement, I don't you know, I don't expect you to choose side
- 28:45handicap now, I just want you to tell me. All right, the
- 28:48Governor's coming up at five o'c. Now, five o'clock today, the Governor's
- 28:52going to make his announcement life from the grand writers to what he's going to
- 28:55do. We all know he's going to run for Senate. You can actually
- 28:57watch it on the YouTube channel that is funded that says paid for by Jim
- 29:02Justice for Senate. So that pretty much tells you everything that you need h
- 29:06to know. Uh so he announced us today. You take it from their
- 29:10handicap it certain well all handicap it. Anybody can can lose an election,
- 29:15and no one knows who's going to win an election. It's so early to
- 29:19say who's going to win. You look at who I think most people consider
- 29:25the the opponent in the Republican primary, which will be U Alex Money.
- 29:30Yeah, that's that's his name. Ye and he what was he? Congressman,
- 29:34congressman um in anyway, I mean, he vanquished Dave McKinley, and
- 29:41most people thought that would not happen. Yeah, so he's got a lot
- 29:44of bona FIDE's, he's got this huge ten million dollar pick or whatever it
- 29:48is. And so you know, arguably Justice doesn't have a chance except for
- 29:52one thing, right, baby doc do he's got time I check. Governor
- 29:57Justice is considered one of the most popular governors in the count fourth most popula
- 30:03in the country according to a recent poem. And he's the most popular governor
- 30:06in West Virginia, which is where this race will take place. So there's
- 30:11gonna be a lot of money, there's gonna be this started. But I
- 30:15will just say one thing, and don't don't take his personal but there was
- 30:19a lot of geniuses on this radio show that wrote Governor Justice off on Amendment
- 30:26too. You remember that, Yeah, I remember, Yeah, I didn't
- 30:30remember. And I believed then and now that Governor Justice knew and believed that
- 30:38would hurt West Virginia. He knew, but hurt firefighters, police officers,
- 30:42of paramedics, and he went on a barn storming trip. Nobody said anything
- 30:48like essence Harry Truman did his whistle stock for so I would not underestimate Jim
- 30:53Justice and baby Dog the Republican primary. What about in the if he makes
- 30:59a pass movie about Justice v. Mansion, if there is a Mansion in
- 31:03the race, he may that's the question mark. And I have no idea.
- 31:06I mean, you've heard the same things the whispering campaign that the senator
- 31:11for Mansion will not run for US Senate, he will run for presidents.
- 31:15And I have no idea. But right now this is going to be a
- 31:21very very mean and nasty primary. I was not involved in politics, but
- 31:29I remember very well the Archmore and Jay Rockefeller. You know, it was
- 31:37interesting, the money and the fight and how that happened. This will be
- 31:42similar, but the world has changed, Yeah, and this is one that
- 31:47has a lot more national attention to the one that one does. We did
- 31:49have a quick question for you. We'll let you go absolutely, a Texter
- 31:52said. I asked, mister Carper, if there's a date for the golf
- 31:56course at Coonskin to open up. You know, that's a good question,
- 32:00and I'll give a dodgy answer on that. Okay, it is going to
- 32:02depend on the weather. The last I heard it should be open sometime before
- 32:09summer. And that's a very close Uh, stay tuned on that. We
- 32:14can ask about it all the time. I think that's an exciting opportunity.
- 32:17I give full credit to Commissioner Wheeler. He's spearheaded debt and in along with
- 32:22the Parks Board, David Pope and others. That's going to be a very
- 32:28exciting thing for Kanak County. I think people are really going to enjoy this.
- 32:31Can I account commission President Kent Carper. It's always a pleasure, Sarah.

- 36:12he's a good guy. I like, can we have a we have we
- 36:14kind of have that that relationship. I got a much better relationship with my
- 36:20old friend, not old friend, because she's like ten years younger than I
- 36:22am. Amanda Baron from WWK, how are you kid, I'm great?
- 36:25Thank you, Thank you for pointing that out. Also, yeah, well
- 36:29thank you, tend thank you for constantly pointing out that I'm ten years older
- 36:34than than than you are thereabouts. I mean, I don't know. We
- 36:37don't talk about people's ages on the show, especially females. All right,
- 36:42follow today after a snake in concarpera yeah you had a yeah we let off
- 36:46with Mimi the a Boa constructor picture posted on the Dave Allen Radio on Facebook
- 36:50and then Kent Carper and here you are to liven up to join a little
- 36:52bit. Good morning. There's a reason that you're here other than just to
- 36:57bring the program a little class following a Boa Constrict and Kent CARPERU. And
- 37:00that is. Listeners to this show have heard our friend Jim Brown call the
- 37:06show from time to time on a variety of subjects. Jim, being the
- 37:08old radio guy he is, um you know, frequently calls and comments and
- 37:13just about everything. M Jim has a call to us in a while,
- 37:16and we learned through you that our friend Jim Brown has been quite ill in
- 37:22the hospital. Happy to report though that he's doing better, but still not
- 37:25able to call the show yet. And I know you've been visiting with him,
- 37:30getting updates from his family, etc. What can you tell us about
- 37:32Jim. Well, the good news is at Jim's home from the hospital U
- 37:36and that Jim is tougher than ever. So that is the awesome news.
- 37:40The tough news is that Jim really had a rough couple of days there.
- 37:44He was in the hospital. He got an infection and so he had to
- 37:47go to the hospital. And I talked to Jim yesterday and made sure it
- 37:51was okay to, you know, to talk about about him. Yeah,
- 37:55I loved him, but and his sister too, has been wonderful, but
- 38:00he's had a tough couple of days, So nobody is mentally tougher. What
- 38:04God didn't give Jim embody strength, he gave him in mental strength. And
- 38:09I just hope that everybody is praying for him and thinks about him when there's
- 38:15a great conversation going on and keeps him in his prayers because you know he'd
- 38:19want to chime in. But Jim has done so much for our community,
- 38:22from getting access so people with different abilities can go fishing in Dunbar, to
- 38:29making sure that first responders or nine one one operators are classified his first responders,
- 38:36So just caring about people, He really just cares about people. Nobody
- 38:39has better scanner ears than Jim Brown. And I'm just praying for his recovery
- 38:44and cheered him on right now. Well, Jim has, you know,
- 38:46had a variety of health issues, and he's talked about him on the show
- 38:50before. He has to pretty much have even before this illness, Amanda,
- 38:53he pretty much has to have care all the time, and he's pretty much
- 38:57confined to to his wheelchair or its bad on a daily basis. And he
- 39:01did call the show on a regular basis, and even you know, Ryan,
- 39:05our producer, a couple of weeks ago even said me, No,
- 39:07Jim hasn't called in a while. And he's very active on social media.
- 39:09And I'll say this to our listeners. I know that if you're a person's
- 39:13on Facebook, Jim would like nothing better to connect with you on Facebook.
- 39:16So if you have it in your heart, send him a friend request.
- 39:20I mean, he spends a lot of time on there. He's constantly sending
- 39:22me articles via Messenger and things of that nature. And as you said,
- 39:24I know he's listening to the show and he's quite a big fan of yours
- 39:29as well. Well. I'm a big fan of his, and he makes
- 39:32my job easier. You know, jimmy your stuff on the skinner and he
- 39:36calls me and he takes good care of me. You know, he's a
- 39:39former dispatcher, radio guy, you name it. He's done it, and
- 39:45through it all he's done all of a smile. You know, Jim is
- 39:49always up. He's always happy. Even though he has to stay puss,
- 39:52he's never stayed still. And I think that's what's so amazing about him.
- 39:57He's just a great guy and he's done so much for other people. And
- 40:02it's cards, call visitors, that's all, really, really important. He's
- 40:08made everybody else feel so amazing about themselves, and I hope it can be
- 40:13the same for Jim. Well. And that's what I was going to say,
- 40:15Amanda. You know, for somebody that spent their life in public service
- 40:17in one form or another, being on the radio, or be it with
- 40:21nine one one or whatever he did, he's been there for all of us,
- 40:24Amanda, It's time for us to be there for him absolutely. And
- 40:29just his sister, Jan his twin sister. I didn't know he was a
- 40:32twin. I didn't know that. Yeah, yeah, so she she is
- 40:37such a great caregiver and I've been talking with her quite a bit lately.
- 40:40I keep calling her sister every time I talked to her now because we've been
- 40:43talking so much, you know. But she's she's a wonderful caregiver, and
- 40:47Jim is a wonderful guy. They're a fantastic duo. And just keep him
- 40:52in your prayers, but more importantly, make sure he knows that you're thinking
- 40:57of him exactly. And like I said, if you're a Facebook person,
- 41:00and send him a friend request. And he's very active on Facebook. He
- 41:02he likes to post pictures of the two of you together on Facebook from time
- 41:07at the time. So let's let's just keep him and in your prayers and
- 41:10your thoughts and good spirits. He's a he's a great dude. I mean,
- 41:14I did not know Jim until I took this job, but I knew
- 41:17of Jim because you know radio. I mean, I can remember him on
- 41:21other stations in Charleston, you know, for a number of years doing various
- 41:23things, and then his service to emergency responders and everything he does, you
- 41:27know, for the community. Just he's an icon here in the Kanal Valley.
- 41:30And I know that you and I had talked about him a couple of
- 41:34days ago that he's been under the weather. But the good news is he's
- 41:37out of the hospital and he's back home again. He's not able to call
- 41:39us up, I understand, but I'm sure he's listening this morning. So
- 41:43if you get an opportunity, you know, say a special prayer for for
- 41:45Jim and his family and all of his friends, send him a friend request
- 41:49on Facebook and U and so on and so forth. So how how have
- 41:52you been, miss a man? I have a talk to you a while.
- 41:54I'm doing I'm doing great, Thank you, I'm I'm wonderful. I'm
- 41:58happy that Jim at home. I think that's the in my heart more than
- 42:00anything. Right, I'm happy that Jim is home and glad the weather is
- 42:05getting nice, and you know, all those good things, and you're excited
- 42:07about the regatta. You got a regatta. And I worked with Brian Hughes,
- 42:13so you tell me if I'm well. Brian will make sure you're excited,
- 42:15whether you want to be or not. He was on the show yesterday.
- 42:19All right, quickly, Draft night is tonight. Honestly, literally haven't
- 42:22looked at a whole lot of the predictions any inside on your beloved Cleveland Browns.
- 42:25I don't know. I honestly don't know anything this year, but I
- 42:29will just say it is the super Bowl night for the Cleveland Browns. Happened,
- 42:32super Bowl brown Fans, it's our night, enjoy it, and we're
- 42:37gonna have a Brown's Cowboys super Bowl right. Oh yeah, I am a
- 42:43Cowboys fan. I know you told me that you get ties to Texas too.
- 42:45So back in the nineties. Yeah, my mom is from Texas and
- 42:49so back in the nineties, in the early nineties when it was always the
- 42:53Cowboys in the Bills. My best friend was from Buffalo, and we both
- 42:58grew up in Northeast Ohio, and so anyways, so I cheered for the
- 43:01Cowboys, she cheered for the Bills. Obviously this her name is Molly.
- 43:07Molly and I were on the phone together every day after school from like the
- 43:09second we got home. Told we fall asleep on the phone together. She
- 43:13put the phone down while she practiced piano. I was at their house all
- 43:16the time, but I was not invited to their super Bowl party, I
- 43:22swear, and we would just call them prank each other that during the Super
- 43:23Bowl the whole time. That was the only time I wasn't invited to their
- 43:27house. And kids, now you know, we're probably saying, what's a
- 43:30phone? I mean, what's the phone that you actually listened to and not
- 43:31just you know, punch numbers on. We were on the phone so much,
- 43:35Dave that her parents we had a second phone line at our house for
- 43:38my dad's work, they got a second phone line. We wrote the phone
- 43:44so much and just to the other day, we remembered the phone numbers to
- 43:46it. So there you go. And you know, there was an episode
- 43:49of the Break. There was an episode of The Brady Bunch where they put
- 43:52a pay phone in the house. That that's really useless trivia right there.
- 43:54All right, Amanda, we will be We will be watching as we always

- 48:30tomorrow's guests. Host is okay, I suppose, But for me, it's
- 48:35got to be the Animal. I need more animal in my life. Reference
- 48:37to Steve Z, Steve Animal, he'll be back on the show. You
- 48:40never know what could possibly happen. So let the Senate gates again the eyes
- 48:45of the political nation, not just West Virginia, but the entire country on
- 48:50the Greenbrier at five o'clock this afternoon, as the governor and baby dog will
- 48:52announce what's expected to be Governor Justice's run for US Senate. I think,
- 48:58now, as I mentioned earlier, we can say with about one hundred and
- 49:00ten percent possibility that's what he's doing. Considering that that advisory went out to
- 49:05the media saying the message from the governor will be streamed on the YouTube channel
- 49:08entitled Jim Justice for US Senate, I think that's probably a dead giveaway there.
- 49:14Now there had talked about it earlier. We've been some scuttle that former
- 49:17President Donald Trump would be at the Greenbright with the governor for the announcement or
- 49:21perhaps a video of some sort. That talk has kind of dialed down just
- 49:25a little bit, but who knows. With the governor in the meantime,
- 49:30the governor is already on the attack. It gets Senator Mansion calling him out
- 49:34for his support of the Inflation Reduction Act, a move that looks like,
- 49:37at least on the surface, Senator Mansion regrets or at least the rollout of
- 49:42the bill, the way it's going with a Biden administration, the way that
- 49:45that's going so far. In fact, there is some speculation that Senator Mansion
- 49:52may possibly be working to repeal the bill. That's a developing story, of
- 49:57course. And remember on the show yesterday when I talked about how broadcasters and
- 50:02anyone who handles advertising we're salivating at the concept of not only a potential Justice
- 50:08v. Mansion matchup, with that primary battle too between Jim Justice and Congressman
- 50:13Alex Mooney. Well, the TV ads have already started. I saw one
- 50:17on my way out the door this morning, and add being run by Mooney
- 50:23against Jim Justice the Senate campaign. And now it's worth noting this wasn't like
- 50:29a dark money spot or some kind of a political action committee. This was
- 50:31paid for by Alex Mooney for Senate, right there on the screen this morning
- 50:36as I was getting ready for working heading out the door. So away we
- 50:39go. Of course, we will have complete coverage of the Governor's announcement and
- 50:44his speech on the air at wv metronews dot com and all of our social
- 50:47media platforms. Brad mcleahenny has an in depth story posted at wv metronews dot
- 50:53com. Brad was burning the proverbial midnight oil, or at least or maybe
- 50:58it was up early this morning. He posted that story in the length.
- 51:00Another said four fifteen this morning, we are getting a new driver's license in
- 51:06West Virginia. If you want to see what it's gonna look like, just
- 51:07go over to the website ww metro news dot com. Kat Skelton's got a
- 51:12story about that The new license will feature the new River Gorge Bridge as the
- 51:15background. I for one would have thought that maybe dog could have been used,
- 51:22but that's just me. So are you committing? Are you listening?
- 51:24Commissioner Everett Frasier kind of make that happen quick text says Governor Justice closed down
- 51:31the schools during COVID. We should make sure people don't forget that colossal mistake.
- 51:36According to a texture, all right, did not get to all the
- 51:39Texas morning. I will try to get to them at a later point,
- 51:44maybe not tomorrow, but maybe the next week if they're still topical. Gotta
- 51:46go. My producer was Ryan Nichols, and Ryan, thank you so much.
- 51:49Thanks to all our guest today including Annie McKee, the Reptile Guy and
- 51:52Mimi I'm want to see the snake We're talking about posted pictures posted on Dave
