- 0:00Hey, everybody, it's Jeff. We wanted to let you know that we
- 0:02recorded this particular Table Talk podcast episode on Monday, October thirtieth, twenty twenty
- 0:08three. By the time you hear this, some things may have changed,
- 0:10but we hope you enjoy the show. All right, folks, you're listening
- 0:35to Table Talk here at the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running
- 0:38weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world. That's right over ten and a
- 0:42half years strong. But we got a lot of great content coming your way.
- 0:45We got a great discussion this week on our Table Talk Interview show.
- 0:49We're gonna be getting into this world of Philly sports. A few of these
- 0:53teams, the Eagles, the Phillies, the Sixers, how things are looking
- 0:57for these organizations for these teams as we're moving forward. We have got a
- 1:00great discussion coming your way. Let's get right to it. And it is
- 1:03great to have him back on the PSD podcast show here for our Table Talk
- 1:07Interview show this week coming to us from the Philly Sports Network, specifically his
- 1:14podcast Every Morning Trending in the am two year anniversary coming up here, and
- 1:19actually I think we're right at the two year anniversary It's great having him on
- 1:23the podcast. Great friend of the show, mister Phil Steiffele. How you
- 1:26doing, buddy, pretty good? Thanks for having me back on again,
- 1:29Jeff. It's a busy week for me, it's a busy week for you.
- 1:32I mean, Halloween, election, Eagles, Philly Sixer's so much happening
- 1:37that, you know, I'm glad to be back on for this specific week.
- 1:40I had to celebrate two years of trending in the AM. Absolutely,
- 1:42you're doing a great job over there. Seriously, I know the grind,
- 1:46you know, we talked about it before hitting the record button, the grind
- 1:48of doing a podcast week in week out, day in day out, it
- 1:52can be pretty grueling. But I think the one thing that you have probably
- 1:56realized after two years, us after ten and a half years, it's the
- 2:00passion, the passion for sports, specifically Philly sports. That's why we do
- 2:04what we do. And I love it. I still love it after all
- 2:07this time, and you obviously are as well. You know. It's funny
- 2:12because after the Phillies lost first episode I did the next day after they got
- 2:15knocked out of the NLCS, it was like kind of like I titled it
- 2:19like a therapy session Phillies fans. I said, it's tough being a Philadelphia
- 2:22sports fan. I mean, let's be honest, how many titles in Philadelphia
- 2:25sports history do we have? Not many? And that's really what trend in
- 2:30the am every single day has become for me, is kind of like the
- 2:34cathartic way, yeah, for me to deal with my crazy Philadelphia sports fandom
- 2:38to get those emotions so they're not just hanging around all day long, every
- 2:43day exactly. That's what Lenn and I were talking about on the show this
- 2:46past week, a regular show that we upload every Thursday. We were talking
- 2:49about the fact that we needed that cathartic conversation about the Phillies, just the
- 2:53heartbreaking moments that we've had over the course of this past year, whether it
- 2:58be the Eagles Super Bowl loss, the Union losing in the finals, losing
- 3:01the World Series last year with this Phillies team, and then not being able
- 3:05to get back to the World Series, losing the NLCS. It's definitely cathartic
- 3:08to be able to do this podcast, but you bring up the Phillies,
- 3:12phil and like, it really has been just a tough week since losing the
- 3:16NLCS, and you know, I talked about Len and our discussion last week.
- 3:22I mean, we certainly don't have a crystal ball about what's going to
- 3:24happen in the future, but the core of this group is still going to
- 3:28be together in twenty twenty four, and I think the window for a possible
- 3:31championship it isn't closed at all, not by a long shot. So what
- 3:36are your thoughts about the future of this Phillies organization and team where they're gonna
- 3:39be going next year. I mean, I think you hit it now on
- 3:42the head there. It's really hard the first couple of days, even week
- 3:46after, you know, such a heartbreaking loss to you know, really objectively
- 3:50look at it, But you hit the nail on the head there. This
- 3:53is a team that's built for a long window, I mean Trey Turner,
- 3:55Brace Harper specifically here for a long time. You've got young arms in the
- 4:00farm system that will be coming up in the next couple of years, yep.
- 4:03And you've got an owner in John Middleton that's not afraid to spend money,
- 4:08and this offseason he is going to have to spend money if they expect
- 4:12to get back to the NLCS Good World Series next year. And so the
- 4:15window is open, the future is bright. It's just hard to look positively
- 4:21still, just you know, six days after, you know, the NLCS
- 4:25ended. That's all. I don't know about you. I haven't watched one
- 4:27pitch of the World Series yet, so because I'm not over the end of
- 4:30that season. I watched about fifteen minutes of it a few nights ago,
- 4:32and I was like, I can't do it. I was like, I
- 4:33can't take it. I can't deal with it having these two teams and here
- 4:36one of these two teams is going to end up being World Series champions.
- 4:41But you know, I look at baseball and it's so bizarre how a team
- 4:45like the Phillies they got hot, they got hot a little too early,
- 4:49quote a little too early in the playoffs, and a team like the Diamondbacks
- 4:54getting hot right when they needed to get hot. And it's just the fact
- 4:58that sports come down to that sometimes, specifically with professional baseball. It's just
- 5:02my numbing, it's mind numbing that that's actually what happens with the Phillies last
- 5:08year in the playoffs, and that's how they they didn't get into the playoffs
- 5:13till the second last day of the year. Last year, Yeah, then
- 5:15got howt it once they got in the playoffs and carried that to the World
- 5:16Series. So the Diamondbacks are kind of running off the Phillies, you know,
- 5:20way of doing things from last year. Yeah. Absolutely, Well you
- 5:24mentioned the fact, Phil that this team, this Phillies organization, is gonna
- 5:28be spending some money this offseason. We know Dave Dombrowski and John Middleton they're
- 5:32gonna be spending some bucks here as he has been doing over these past few
- 5:36seasons for sure, And and this offseason they're gonna be addressing some areas with
- 5:41regard to bringing players in during free agency that they need to be filling some
- 5:46spots for sure. What are your biggest position priorities for this offseason as it
- 5:50pertains to the Phillies, you know, as we're reflecting on this postseason the
- 5:55season in general, what are those big position priorities for you? Well,
- 6:00I think before you even address the two positions, you have two questions you
- 6:03have to ask. One is what is Bryce Harper going to do? Is
- 6:06he gonna stay at first base or is he going to go back to the
- 6:09outfield. I think at one point you would have said probably back to the
- 6:12outfield, but he kind of actually proved that he's a pretty good first baseman.
- 6:15Yeah, and that would kind of protect his arm long term. You
- 6:18put him back out in that outfield, then you risk his arm getting hurt
- 6:21again. So if he's going to stay at first base, that answers one
- 6:26question. If he's going to go back to the outfield, then you got
- 6:28to find a way to move Nick Castellona. So there's a lot of moving
- 6:30pieces. So I think offensively speaking, money wise, you've got to sit
- 6:33down with Bryce Harper and find out what his what his plan, what he
- 6:36wants to do, because let's be honest, Bryce Harper, what he wants
- 6:40is what he gets. You know, you want to turn JT. He
- 6:43got him. He wants to play first base, he got it, you
- 6:46know what I mean. So you got to answer that question first, and
- 6:47then you've got to answer the second question is would you pay Aaron Nola the
- 6:51big money to stay here? And can you can you come to an agreement
- 6:56to keep Aaron Nola? And I think they do need to spend that big
- 6:59money keep Aaronola. The free agent market is not, you know, loaded
- 7:01with a lot of stud pitchers. You need to bring Aaron Nola back and
- 7:05then after that then you could talk about it. The most overpaid position in
- 7:10sports is the closer, yep. But it's also one of the most important
- 7:12positions. And you should never pay a big money closer until you have that
- 7:15World Series window. Phileast have that World Series window. So there's some names
- 7:19out there that could be that big money closer. You got to go out
- 7:24and once you figure out Aaron Nola, once you figure out Bryce Harper,
- 7:27your top priority then is to go get that big money closer. So we
- 7:30don't have the Craig kimberl situation being burned out thirty eight years old at the
- 7:34end of the season exactly. I mean, the fact that we saw Craig
- 7:38Kimberrel do what he did even mid season was amazing. It was fantastic.
- 7:42But it's just him completely getting it all out early, getting the great mass
- 7:47out early, and just he was a liability in this postseason. So I
- 7:55love what you say about the closer, and it's obviously a subject we're gonna
- 7:59be talking about more on this. I know you're gonna be talking about it
- 8:01on trending in the AM a lot more in the coming weeks. And months
- 8:05for sure. But let's move over to the Philadelphia Eagles here, my gosh,
- 8:07I mean, they're seven to one here and currently best record in the
- 8:13NFL, the game yesterday against the Commanders. How this team is looking halfway
- 8:18through this season? First, I want again, I want to get into
- 8:22some positives and now we're going to get in some negatives with this team,
- 8:24because this is not a perfect team by any stretch of the imagination. When
- 8:28you look at the positives with this Eagles team. Of course, Jalen Hurts,
- 8:31AJ Brown, Devonte Smith, those were the three individuals that won this
- 8:35game for this team yesterday. Other positives with this team too. What are
- 8:41your thoughts, Phil because you know that I think there's some under the radar
- 8:45positives as well when it comes to this Eagles team. What are your thoughts?
- 8:50I mean, first and foremost, can I repeat what you just said
- 8:52there through eight weeks or the number one team in the NFL. They the
- 8:54only one lost team in the NFL. Yes, we reiterate that point right
- 8:58there, because I drove that home on my morning show on Monday. The
- 9:01fact that there's seven to one in an NFL where there's so much parody you
- 9:03just saw the Chiefs lost to you know, lose to Denver. You know,
- 9:07so the four nine ers have now what two of their last three or
- 9:11three whatever it is. Yeah, Purdy's not Superman. Obviously. This Eagles
- 9:15team has not been perfect by the shadow of doubt. The fact that they
- 9:18are seven and one with how they have played, it just goes to show
- 9:22how much intangibles leadership and those those guys at top, Nick syry I and
- 9:28Jalen Hurts what they mean to this team. You look at it. Yesterday,
- 9:33Jalen Hurts has a turnover the Eagles fault, well yesterday if hanging on
- 9:37when we're we're doing this Monday morning. I don't know when this is dropped,
- 9:39but you know, you fall behind fourteen and three and you have those
- 9:43turnovers in the red zone, and they never missed a beat. They never
- 9:46got too low on themselves. They never got this, you know, down
- 9:48on themselves. And I think that intangible been saying it since day one with
- 9:54Jalen Hurts. Intangibles win championships, not super awesome one hand a touchdown grabs,
- 10:01not big pick sixes and stuff like that. Intangibles win and that's what
- 10:05this team has and have had now for two years. And they talk about
- 10:07a Phillies window for World Series and championships. The Eagles championship window is going
- 10:11to be open as long as those intangibles remain in place. I love you
- 10:16talking about the intangibles because on the postgame show yesterday, my co host and
- 10:20I are talking specifically about how Jalen Hurts fumbles doing the brother Lushov fumbles the
- 10:26ball and he didn't miss a beat. It did not affect him for the
- 10:30rest of the game like we see with quarterbacks in the NFL. I mean
- 10:33even going back with an Eagles nation with regard to Carson Wentz, he would
- 10:35have had a situation like that, it would have been the end of the
- 10:37game basically for him because it would have been in his head. Jalen Hurts
- 10:41is able to recalibrate and he's able to get his mind frame back to a
- 10:46space where he knows what he needs to do in order to point put points
- 10:50on the board, the get the offense down the field. Those intangibles are
- 10:54absolutely essential, the intangibles. It's not just him. It inspires the rest
- 11:01of the team. Yes, because the defense was making mistakes too. Yeah,
- 11:03you know, throughout the first half of that Eagles game. And again,
- 11:07now the Eagles defense wasn't as good as it's been in weeks prior,
- 11:11but they did hold the Washington Commanders. I almost said redskins there. The
- 11:16Washington Commanders to two touchdowns, but one of them was in garbage time with
- 11:18a minute left in the game. So they basically held team that put up
- 11:22twenty plus points in the first half seven points in the second half because they
- 11:26rallied behind those intangibles of their leader. When you get into that huddle,
- 11:30yeah, we just turned the ball over. I don't care. It drives
- 11:33totally different. You know, the players they look at him and think about
- 11:37it this way. This is what I always think about. You've got Jason
- 11:39Kelcey Lane Johnson, a g mur that superstars, future Hall of famers,
- 11:43and they look at Jalen Hurts and he inspires them. Someone like Jason Kelsey
- 11:48would be normally the guy doing the inspiration. No, no, no,
- 11:52no, they looked to young twenty five year old Jalen Hurts for their inspiration
- 11:56for those leadership. But it just speaks volumes of the character that Jail Hurts
- 12:00is. Absolutely let's look on the other side of things in terms of some
- 12:03of the negatives with this team, because as we know, there certainly are
- 12:05We talked about him in our post game show yesterday specifically with the defense,
- 12:09even from an offensive perspective and coaching. There were definitely some negatives yesterday during
- 12:11the Commanders and what we've seen over the course of these past eight weeks as
- 12:15well. When negative, when you're looking at the negatives and where this team
- 12:18needs to improve, like, what's really sticking out for you, Phil,
- 12:22first and foremost, they need to improve, Their coordinators need to continue to
- 12:24improve and get better. And it was gonna be my biggest question coming into
- 12:26the season, Brian Johnson go on DECI how they were going to handle this
- 12:31year first time for excuse me, Brian Johnson, you know, second time
- 12:35for Shon Decai in these roles, and you're starting to see improvements. But
- 12:39you know, for as much as we've been down on Brian Johnson, he
- 12:43actually showed a little improvement this week. And as much as we were high
- 12:45on Shan Decai, he didn't have his best coach game yesterday. How much
- 12:48of that goes to injuries, how much that goes to depth on this team.
- 12:52Yep, I don't know, but defensively speaking, you know, Seawan
- 12:56Decai has got to be better, and you know we got the trade deadline,
- 12:58you know this week. You know, it's a very unpopular opinion.
- 13:03I actually think we actually need on the defensive line. Everybody just thinks because
- 13:07a Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis Pletcher Cox it's so great. Jalen Carr has
- 13:11been banged up a lot this year. You've got banged up again yesterday.
- 13:13Jordan Davis banged up again. Need some help there. And I talked about
- 13:18it on the Monday Morning you know show. Last year, the Eagle secondary,
- 13:22James Bradbury and Darius Slay, we're rate at one of the greatest duos
- 13:24in the NFL for cornerbacks. This year, we're not getting after the quarterback
- 13:28as well, and all of a sudden, James Bradbury and Darius Slay are
- 13:31looking not quite as unstoppable as they once were. Getting after the quarterback directly
- 13:37correlates to, you know, your cornerback and your secondary play, and the
- 13:39secondary is suffering partly because of the defensive line. It's not a popular opinion
- 13:45to say that because of the names on that defensive line. If I see
- 13:48the defensive line, I keep joking for weeks now, the Eagles lead the
- 13:50league in almost sacks, and that's kind of why this secondary is struggling to
- 13:56an extent, because they're almost getting sacks every play there. Yeah, and
- 14:00right every quarterback can step it up and finding the open receiver, you know
- 14:03in the secondary. Yeah, a lot of quarterbacks that the Eagles are facing
- 14:05and this Eagles defense is facing, and they're just getting the ball out quick.
- 14:07We saw what happened yesterday with the Commander's game and Sam Halle just getting
- 14:13that ball out so quick, especially during the first half. But you know,
- 14:16I'm moving along here too. You know, the Eagles are certainly surprising
- 14:18us in certain ways, and you know there are other teams in the NFL
- 14:22that are a bit surprising. During the course of this twenty twenty three twenty
- 14:28twenty four season. A few things I've been surprised at. One the Bucks,
- 14:31the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not as bad as we thought. Phil And
- 14:35like even a rookie like CJ. Stroud is much better his rookie season than
- 14:41I thought he would be with a team that is rebuilding and looking to contend
- 14:45just years down the road. C J Stroud not doing that terrible of a
- 14:48job for his rookie season, And I'm wondering, do you have a couple
- 14:52things that have surprised you about this NFL season thus far? What are those
- 14:56things? I'm surprised, not so much much as you know, validation for
- 15:01some of the thoughts I had coming into this, okay, but obviously the
- 15:05Niners not being as good as everyone said they were going to be. Obviously
- 15:09there's still one of the biggest challenges in the NFC to the Eagles, and
- 15:13we face them in a few weeks. I'm Rock Purty looking human is a
- 15:16surprise, because, let's be honest, I spent so much time first half
- 15:20of the season talking about, if you're gonna give Jalen Hurtson whatever his record
- 15:24is now twenty two and two or whatever, Rock Purty in the regular season
- 15:26was what ten and oh eleven, oh twelve and oh whatever it was until
- 15:30you started losing, you had to give him credit. I'm surprised how quickly
- 15:33he's come back down to earth. I'm surprised at how low the Chiefs have
- 15:37looked and their two losses they look really bad in their two losses. The
- 15:41surprises to me are more on the downward side of things, like the Bengals
- 15:46looking bad and then finding ways to come back in the last couple of weeks.
- 15:50They are the things that surprised me the most. And also the Cowboys.
- 15:54You know, you know, the Cowboys have surprised me. They we
- 15:58keep saying the loss to the car knows they lost to the Cardinals, but
- 16:00they've actually, considering all the drama surrounding their team, actually shown like a
- 16:07little bit of that, you know, intangible of being able to recover from
- 16:10a really god awful loss against the Arizona Cardinals. What we two or week
- 16:14three whenever that was. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it's It's a very
- 16:17surprising season in a lot of ways. I'll tell you right now. My
- 16:19fantasy football teams, Holy crap, I am surprised by what is happening there.
- 16:23Fantasy is so bizarrest here man two second side Tangent Fantasy Football, Philadelphia
- 16:30Sports Network. We have a fourteen team league. Never done a deep fourteen
- 16:33team and it's a keeper league. Nine know, the fourteen teams are either
- 16:37four and three or three and four coming into this week, and I'm terrible.
- 16:41I've lost four weeks in a row. I traded away half my team
- 16:44for future draft picks and stuff like that. Yeah, and now, all
- 16:45of a sudden, since I've traded away back Prescott, Ceed Lamb, Mark
- 16:49Andrews, Jon Robinson, I've traded all these guys away, picked up a
- 16:53future first, a future third, a future fourth. Now all of a
- 16:56sudden, I'm winning again. Oh, I don't understand what's going on there.
- 17:00It's great, that's great. Fantasy is so bizarre this year, it's
- 17:02just crazy. So again, folks, we're talking to Phil stifle at Beard
- 17:06Acknowledge on the Twitter dot com or I'm not calling it x yet. I'm
- 17:10just not doing it, folks. Philly Sports Network Trending in the Am.
- 17:14Where can folks find trending on the am Phil if they want to catch every
- 17:18morning it's Monday through Friday. Eight We now do ninety minutes. We've gone
- 17:21from an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. Now we're doing ninety minutes
- 17:23a day, eight am, Monday through Friday. Philadelphia Sports Network on YouTube
- 17:27or Facebook, or if you just follow me at Beard to Knowledge on Twitter.
- 17:30I share out the link every single morning there as well, and I
- 17:34promote it as one thing where your opinions actually matter, because there's far too
- 17:37many everybody complains about the dial as I call it, you know, and
- 17:41the big names, and how they don't care about what you actually have to
- 17:45say. My show is geared totally towards your comments, not mine. My
- 17:48opinions mean nothing on my show, all about your opinions. All right,
- 17:52very good, as we're moving along here and closing things out on this table
- 17:56talk interview discussion here, Phil is getting the Philadelphia seventy six ers and been
- 18:03an interesting few games thus far here. And even though Sixers, you know,
- 18:06they lost their first game of the season to the Bucks, they only
- 18:10lost that game by a point, and there was some real promising stuff that
- 18:12we not only saw in that game, but in these early games as well.
- 18:17With this team. We just not understanding how things are gonna go because
- 18:22of the James hard and crap that this organization and team is going through.
- 18:26I know that many of us have been down on this Sixers team, and
- 18:30for good reason, you know, even before the start of the season,
- 18:32just because of this drama and how it's going to affect potential play on the
- 18:36court. Where are you at with this team right now? I know we're
- 18:40recording this right at the end of October, as we're heading into November.
- 18:44Here, where are you at with this team? Do you have any hope
- 18:47here? I mean, first off, I love how you said that the
- 18:48James Harden crap. I love how you praised that right there, because that's
- 18:52what it is. Basically. Look, I'm coming into this season with a
- 18:56very open mind, not just because of the James hard and crat, just
- 19:00because of a new system coming off of the four hundreds straight, you know,
- 19:03second round exit of the playoffs, the very open minded on what this
- 19:07season's going to be. And with or without James Harden. I knew there
- 19:11were going to be some early season struggles as Joel Embiid tries to figure out
- 19:15a new way of playing basketball, as Tyres Maxey tries to step up into
- 19:19that, you know, much bigger role, Tobias Harris is going to have
- 19:22a bigger role this year, all these things, I know there's going to
- 19:26be some growing pains, But so far through three games, I mean,
- 19:30Tyris Maxey, I mean the steps I'm already seeing. I don't want to
- 19:33overreact. I know I know I'm already seen in his game from last year
- 19:37this year. Last year he deferred, and I talked about it so many
- 19:41times on trending in the am that that Tyras Maxey when he was on the
- 19:45floor with Joel and James Harden, even though he was probably the better scoring
- 19:48option, would always defer. Starting to see at the last couple of games,
- 19:52he knows that he is the leading guy here, you know, at
- 19:56a point guard. He knows that he needs to be more aggressive, and
- 19:59he's showing. And I was watching the Portland game a lot, and there's
- 20:04just something special coming out of Tyres Maxey, and that gives me positivity moving
- 20:10forward. But I'm going to keep that open minded attitude knowing there are going
- 20:14to be some bumps in the road here. Nick Nurse is totally different than
- 20:17Doc Rivers, and we are going to see bumps in the road. But
- 20:19Tyres Maxey, as long as he continues to progress at the end of the
- 20:22season, we're gonna be right back where we were last year at the top
- 20:25of the Eastern Conference. Yeah. I think the fact that we are seeing
- 20:29a different type of offensive style with Nick Nurse at the helmet's head coach that
- 20:33has been really really nice to see. For sure, film really absolutely and
- 20:38Nick Nurse. We knew we were going to see something different from him,
- 20:41and you're definitely hearing it from the players in their comments through training camp in
- 20:45the first few days, Yeah, of the season, you know, kind
- 20:48of subtle digs at Doc Rivers to an extent that they liked this style.
- 20:52There's a lot of different personalities, bringing in Pat Beverly, Kelly Oubrey,
- 20:56these kind of personalities to this team. It's just kind of like a refresh
- 21:00this team, in this organization. It's something that was desperately needed, you
- 21:03know, at this point of the process or whatever you want to call it.
- 21:06So it's definitely the positive thing going forward. We just got to get
- 21:10rid of the James Harden crap and then we actually focus on Jeff basketball.
- 21:14All right. To close this out here, I got a two part question
- 21:15for you, Phil, and there is certainly no easy answer here, I
- 21:19don't think, in my opinion, to these particular questions because it's the million
- 21:25dollar question for six the Sixers, fans, Sixers organization as we try to
- 21:29look to the future, how did the Sixers try to keep Joe el Embiid
- 21:33long term? What do you think I read over the list of questions you
- 21:37were going to send me for this this recording, and I saw that last
- 21:40one at the bottom. I'm like, how do I answer this? I
- 21:42will know? Look, the first and foremost, Joe em Bide loves Philadelphia.
- 21:45Yes, he is tailor made with his personality for the Philadelphia sports fans.
- 21:52He wants to finish his career here without a doubt. He also wants
- 21:56to win, and he does truly care about his legacy, and his legacy
- 22:00is on the line. I mean, he's not going to play ten or
- 22:02twelve more years. He needs a title. The first thing to keep him
- 22:06healthy, in my opinion, is how quickly they get rid of James Harden.
- 22:10He is not going to enjoy answering questions for three or four or five
- 22:14more months. Yeah, what do you think of James Harten? What do
- 22:15you think of this? What do you think of that? You got it?
- 22:18Darryl Mory needs to move on for Joel Embiid's you know, mental state
- 22:22quickly from James Harden. He does. I understand. Daryl Morey wants to
- 22:26get as much as he can for James Harden. Whatever problem with trading or
- 22:30moving on from Joel Embiid. While that topic has been brought up and thrown
- 22:33around, You're never going to get true value for a guy like Joel Biid,
- 22:37So you've got to continue to go all in. Move James Harden,
- 22:40move to Bias Harris. You've got two MAX slots you know, you know
- 22:44for free agency next off season. Letting Joel Embiid be I don't know,
- 22:48I don't know what the right words. Let him have some say in the
- 22:52conversation over the James Harden thing and the max free agent slots next year.
- 22:56I think we'll keep him happy. And that's like with Bryce Harper, Yeah,
- 23:00having a say in who gets brought in here, and that didn't him
- 23:03have a say? I think that. I mean, is it a coincidence
- 23:07that he's playing for Team USA in the Olympics next year, right with two
- 23:10MAX slots that offseason? Yeah? Absolutely, Well that's a great segue into
- 23:14the last thing I was going to ask you here, is it even possible
- 23:15to keep him long term? And basically what you're saying is, yeah,
- 23:18it is, you know, let him have that much more of a say
- 23:22in potential personnel decisions. And where the team is going, the direction of
- 23:26the Sixers as well. I think it's possible to keep him here long term,
- 23:30I really do. I think where there's a will, there's a way.
- 23:33With this particular team and organization and Joel Embiid, I think it's possible.
- 23:37You think it's possible too, right, I mean it's possible, but
- 23:41it's also hard to trade somebody like Joel Embiid. Yeah, I'm sure you
- 23:44saw that the rumors coming from New York Knicks media about a couple first round
- 23:48picks and a couple of that was non retal mover players. Yes, it's
- 23:51garbage, and you're not gonna trade Joel Embiid for that. Joel Embiide would
- 23:56I would say that if James Harden wasn't trading, being traded or sitting out
- 24:00and he was causing more of a distraction, he might, you know,
- 24:03maybe push his way out of town a little bit more. But I think
- 24:06the current direction of the team is leaving the door open for keeping him here
- 24:10and keeping him happy and if you give him some say. I hate how
- 24:12the NBA players have so much more control than the teams or you know,
- 24:17or whatnot over the league. But Jonas has control over the Bucks. Hence
- 24:22Dame Lillard's there. You know, Jason Tatum's got control over the Celtics,
- 24:26Lebron, over the entire NBA. Give Joel that ability to have some say
- 24:32in what's done, and they'll keep them having it. It's his If it
- 24:33doesn't work out, it's his fault. It's not Darren Morriy's fault. It's
- 24:37not the organization's fault. James Harden or it's Joan beats Fall. Find him

- 24:47Phil Steifel, my friend, thank you so much for joining us here
- 24:49on table talk this week. It's great talking to you. Keep up the
- 24:52great work you're doing and come back join us down the road. I'd love
- 24:53to have you back on buddy. Thanks a lot, Jeff, I greatly
- 24:56appreciate this, and you do great work as well. So everybody have a
- 25:00great one and have a hoppy Halloween week here. You know, all right,
- 25:03folks, I know we didn't have time to get into the Flyers of
- 25:06the Union specifically. We of course know the Flyers are going through a rebuild
- 25:10right now. We've been seeing some promising stuff from some of these players on
- 25:14the ice, and of course, as we know, with the Philadelphia Union
- 25:18winning their first playoff game this past weekend, things are looking okay for them
- 25:22as they face New England in the postseason. However, when we talk about
- 25:26the Phillies, the Eagles, the Sixers, as we just did with Phil,
- 25:30you know, I think there's a lot of promising stuff here, and
- 25:33I know with regard to the Sixers, you know, there is definitely two
- 25:37sides of the equation here because a lot of us, as you know,
- 25:41Phil and I are talking about, want em beat here for the long term,
- 25:45and we truly hope that that is going to happen. However, when
- 25:48we look at the Eagles, we look at the Phillies, two organizations and
- 25:52teams that really, really have bright futures, and the window is really open
- 25:56for both of these teams. So it was a great discussion. Thanks so
- 25:59much, Phil for jumping on the Table Talk Podcast interview show this week.
