- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another little French adventure? Luna: Always, Lucas. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today, we're going to the park. A nice, calm visit to a French parc. Luna: Ooh, I love parks. So, how do I say 'I'm going to the park'? Lucas: That's our first phrase. Je vais au parc. Luna: Je vais au parc. Lucas: Perfect. Je vais means 'I go' or 'I am going'. Au parc means 'to the park'. Luna: Je vais au parc. So, if I'm actually going to the park today, I'd say that. Lucas: Exactly. Let's picture it. You're at the park, and you're walking around. How would you say 'I am taking a walk'? Luna: Hmm, is it je me promène? Lucas: Yes, great guess. Je me promène. It's a reflexive verb, so it's a bit special, but just listen to the rhythm. Je me promène. Luna: Je me promène. That sounds nice. Lucas: And it's very common. If you're strolling through the park, you say je me promène. Luna: Okay, so I'm walking. Then maybe I want to sit down. How about 'I sit on the bench'? Lucas: Good one. Je m'assieds sur le banc. That means 'I sit down on the bench'. Luna: Je m'assieds sur le banc. That's a mouthful. Lucas: Break it down: je m'assieds, sur le banc. Sur means 'on', le banc is 'the bench'. Luna: Je m'assieds sur le banc. I can do that. Lucas: While you're sitting, you might notice the flowers. 'There are flowers' is il y a des fleurs. Luna: Il y a des fleurs. I remember il y a from earlier – 'there is' or 'there are'. Lucas: Right, and des fleurs means 'some flowers'. So il y a des fleurs. Luna: Il y a des fleurs. Nice and easy. Lucas: And maybe you see some birds. 'I am watching the birds' – je regarde les oiseaux. Luna: Je regarde les oiseaux. That's pretty. Lucas: Je regarde means 'I watch', les oiseaux means 'the birds'. Luna: So I can say je regarde les oiseaux when I'm people-watching at the park. Lucas: Exactly. Let's put them all together in a little story. You arrive at the park: je vais au parc. Luna: Je vais au parc. Lucas: Then you walk: je me promène. Luna: Je me promène. Lucas: You sit: je m'assieds sur le banc. Luna: Je m'assieds sur le banc. Lucas: You notice the flowers: il y a des fleurs. Luna: Il y a des fleurs. Lucas: And you watch the birds: je regarde les oiseaux. Luna: Je regarde les oiseaux. That was a nice little scene. Lucas: It's fun to imagine yourself in a French park, right? Luna: Totally. And I feel like these phrases are really useful for travel. Lucas: They are. And you know what, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with French, it's because we keep these episodes ad-free. We don't run ads. If you want to support that, you can go to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, every little bit helps us keep this going. Lucas: So, back to our park. Let's review one more time. First, je vais au parc. Luna: Je vais au parc. Lucas: Je me promène. Luna: Je me promène. Lucas: Je m'assieds sur le banc. Luna: Je m'assieds sur le banc. Lucas: Il y a des fleurs. Luna: Il y a des fleurs. Lucas: Je regarde les oiseaux. Luna: Je regarde les oiseaux. Lucas: Perfect. Practice these until we meet again. À bientôt, Luna. Luna: À bientôt, Lucas. See you all next time.
