- 0:05On its sounds all right, Well, welcome back to book watchers, where
- 0:29the plot is made up and the booty thickens. The movie was better than
- 0:32the book anyway. Did you say welcome to buy your house? Did you
- 0:37say the booty thickens? Yep? I mean from what we're talking about today,
- 0:43I guess it. I guess it checks out because you have a weird
- 0:47thing with Godzilla, so it checks out. It checks out. Oh my
- 0:51god, Oh my god. Anyway, you groupie, anyway, I put
- 1:00that as a joke, and you guys actually take it serious, like I'm
- 1:03not one of you brave little freaks like you Tentacles and ship mister over here,
- 1:10Leave the Tentacles out of this, Leave leave the good boy out of
- 1:18this. Don't even get me started. You know you don't. No,
- 1:23you don't get me started. Okay, you fucking psychedelic horror freak, cosmic
- 1:30corr hm. I know. Good ship anyway. Hi, it's it's Eye,
- 1:37the Treasure, the Joy, People's Lives, Devin, and there's mm
- 1:47hmmm, the Lulu incarnate Jacob. I don't say anything. Oh, I
- 1:57didn't say anything. I didn't say anything in your Yeah, you're talking about
- 2:02the treasure enjoy people and the treasure of joy, the people's lives who your
- 2:07life, your life, and the treasure enjoy of your life. You wake
- 2:15up every morning like God, I'm so happy, Demon's my best friend.
- 2:23Fucking better being better, be so anyway and so anyway, now moving on
- 2:32we hi, hello, welcome back. Today we are going to be discussing
- 2:40something a little bit different. It's a little different because yeah, it kind
- 2:46of is, because this isn't really Uh, we're not talking about a book
- 2:51that had a at a movie adaptation. We're talking about something that's kind of
- 2:55It's the reverse. It's the reverse because today we were talking about the original
- 3:02novelization. Stop blurring it out, you piece of ship. Well you have
- 3:05your background bla Well I don't. Well I'm not unblurring it. So I
- 3:09know we are talking. Let me finish, damn it. So today we
- 3:14are talking about Godzilla. Mm hmmm. We're talking about the original novelization of
- 3:23telescopes Godzilla or go Jira if you want to be, if you want to
- 3:28be a gatekeeper like that, and Godzilla raids again. Yeah yeah not before
- 3:38sorry continue sorry, go ahead, face your thought. Finish what you're saying
- 3:43about the book. So this is a very gorgeous print. You can find
- 3:49it on Amazon. Yeah, my Besty over here got it for my birthday
- 3:53because it came out last October. Yeah. Yeah, he came last October
- 3:59and he got us both copies. Well, I got myself the digital copy
- 4:02I want to get. I'm gonna get the physical copy for myself at some
- 4:05point, but I just seed need the money. But mm hmm, before
- 4:10we get in, before you get into the book, just you know,
- 4:16page it in. These little Godzilla's, okay, these little adorable little creatures,
- 4:24creatures. This one is. It's a it's a little it's a little
- 4:30metal cast Godzilla that they released. Yeah. Yeah, and if you and
- 4:36if you'd be nice to me, if I go to Fight below and might
- 4:41find one and buy you it so you can have it for your collection,
- 4:45for your obsession, a little collection of Godzilla's on top of your bed.
- 4:51Uh, hey, don't judge my collection, you you motherfucker. I did
- 5:00this is this. This was my Christmas gift, along with another book,
- 5:03but this was this. This is the black Light Mathra. Yeah. So
- 5:06I'm feeling that obsession. I'm feeding that obsession. I almost kept that for
- 5:14myself almost. Well you didn't and I didn't. Yeah. Uh. But
- 5:20before we get into it, so you look in the description below or on
- 5:26podcast notes or whatever, you'll see that there is a link tree that I'll
- 5:30take you to all the stuff that you ever need to know about Neon Andvoid
- 5:33productions, all the other podcasts, the twitters, we have a tech talk
- 5:40now. Uh, there's YouTube, all that fun ship. All that's down
- 5:45there in the notes. If you want to go take a gander. Anyway,
- 5:51we'll go on nerd. Okay, I'm the nerd to the back word
- 6:00walls. Uh mm hmmm. And it's not even showing the Marvel wall I
- 6:05have on the side of here covered and posters and my scarlet wage and doctor
- 6:11Strange shelf with all my figures and stuff on it. It's just gorgeous.
- 6:16Anyway, hot kettle, pot yeah, pot kettle. Yeah, you're right,
- 6:20you're right, And I'm Matt uh huh yeah. So anyway, today's
- 6:26episode is going to be slightly different from the norm because we're not we're not
- 6:30reviewing a book that was adapted into a movie. We're reviewing a movie that
- 6:34was adapted into a book. So this book is just really the novelization of
- 6:42the movies. So Gojira or Godzilla or if you watch this very shitty American
- 6:53edit, God's the Loo King of the Monsters. I can say that because
- 6:56I I I've done my research by now I should have a PhD in this
- 7:02t trip. But you know, yeah, so anyway, uh so these
- 7:12books, So this book is actually just like a direct transcript of the movie
- 7:16itself. So if you watch the movie and then you read this, you'll
- 7:19realize, oh, this is literally just it's like you're just really just watch
- 7:24you were just reading what you just watched. It's it's written by the same
- 7:28guy who read the who wrote the original scripts for the for those two movies.
- 7:32Yeah, m hmm. Yeah. And so everything that happens in this
- 7:39book happened happens exactly the way you see it in the movies. There's no
- 7:44little extra hidden snippet of information. There's not any little piece of information that
- 7:50was added or like subtracted, kind of like what you see from like books
- 7:56to like books to movies or TV shows. Uh So this is gonna be
- 8:03a fun episode because I don't have to talk about like the differences, just
- 8:05really just a plot. So if you haven't really seen. Uh, if
- 8:11you haven't been exposed to Godzilla before, where have you been? By now?
- 8:15If you where have you been? Yeah? Where have you been?
- 8:18Also, like you've been listening to our podcast for a while now, I'm
- 8:22assuming I'm gonna make assumptions and say you did. Uh. And you've probably
- 8:26at one point or another heard me talk about Godzilla at some point. All
- 8:30right, because I love because he's I love it big. I'm a huge
- 8:33fan, Sam, all right, And uh, I've been pretty much have
- 8:41been immersed in Godzilla's and like Godzilla fandom since I was a little kid.
- 8:48My mom was a big fan of it, but you know, she wasn't
- 8:50as avid as I was. And for me, it was just that thing
- 8:52that like, oh, like she knew I liked it, so she always
- 8:56got me like the movies, the collect the bulls, little toys, things
- 9:01like that. So I've always so yeah, I've always been a part of
- 9:09it. And as I got older and I started realizing, like, you
- 9:13know, there's so much more to it, and started like doing my own
- 9:16research. I realized, like this movie slash novel, the Japanese edit,
- 9:26the original Japanese version is the better version. Because if you're as old as
- 9:31me or close to my age, and you grew up in the Age of
- 9:35the Dinosaurs that we call vhs ah there. Godzilla was originally released under the
- 9:45name Godzilla, King of the Monsters, and there was two versions of it.
- 9:48There was one released in Japan and then there's the americanized version god which
- 9:54is called God's the Looking of the Monsters, not to speak confused with the
- 9:58one with legendary pictures Godzilla, King of the Monsters. I mean that's why
- 10:01they named it, like the referencing the old one. Anyway, Yeah,
- 10:09it was kind of it was like a mild reference to that, but at
- 10:13the same time, like so when Godzilla first came out, the original Godzilli
- 10:20first came out, it was a huge success in Japan. It really captured
- 10:26the horror and the terror that the Japanese people felt in the wake of World
- 10:35War Two, especially with the fire bombing of Tokyo and much of in the
- 10:39greater part of Japan, as well as the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
- 10:46So Godzilla was originally was meant to be this living incarnation of nuclear power,
- 10:52because in the following decade after the initial bombing of those cities. A people
- 11:01were people were scared because the American because the American military begun its tests in
- 11:09the Pacific at the Bikini Atole with the hydrogen bomb tests, and there were
- 11:16dozens of tests being conducted all across the Pacific Ocean. It's ranging from just
- 11:22like regular just regular atomic tests to even underground tests, and it was all
- 11:28done in those areas. So and then also you had the rise of nuclear
- 11:31power and form of like fusion reactors. I'm sorry, nuclear fission reactors if
- 11:37you want to be technical. So nuclear power it was. It was.
- 11:46It was this new concept and people were terrified, all right, and Godzilla
- 11:52was meant to be this this symbol that represented that. So the story straightforward.
- 12:00It originally it starts off with just some fishing fisher boats begin to go
- 12:07fishing boats begin to go missing, not far from a small island chain off
- 12:13the coast of Japan, and some they do. The Japanese Coast Guard does
- 12:20get does receive like SOS signals that boats are being attacked, and they do
- 12:28send out rescue ships to try to locate these boats and any survivors. But
- 12:33every time they do, more boats keep getting destroyed, and more people are
- 12:37going missing. Fishing boats keep disappearing, and even though they send the coast
- 12:43guard to mountain rescue, those ships are also going missing. Eventually, they
- 12:50get word that a survivor from one of the fishing boats had washed up on
- 12:56an island not too far from where the disappearances were happening. So uh,
- 13:01the government, the Japanese government decides to dispatch a research team because they have
- 13:07reason, They had reason to believe that the disappearances are being caused by a
- 13:11massive creature. Oh no, they want to know, really who could be?
- 13:22Who knows? I mean, I don't know man anything at this point.
- 13:26Yeah, so uh, they do send. They send a research vessel
- 13:33to the island. They do find the survivor as well as and they speak
- 13:37to the locals, and the locals tell them a wild story about something from
- 13:43straight out of their folk tales. This was a This is reference to their
- 13:50local traditions and beliefs that the island is haunted by a creature they called Gojira.
- 14:00So Gojeta is like it's not so much of a deity or a guardian
- 14:03animal. It's just more of like, like, what's the best way to
- 14:09describe it like a common occurrence or a natural occurrence. It's just part of
- 14:16their life. But at this point, but the thing is, at this
- 14:20point the creature is never been seen before. They believe that whenever go Jeta
- 14:28surfaces, he brings up fish from deep part of deeper part of the sea,
- 14:33so like deeper deep sea fish end up getting pulled up with him.
- 14:39And the locals even point out that when the disappearances happened, they notice that
- 14:43there's a bunch of deep sea fish coming up. But more recently, with
- 14:50the attacks, they also notice that they're fishing has completely stopped. Like there's
- 14:54no they're not finding any new fish, they're not able to bring anything in.
- 15:00Researchers continue to question them. Okay, I'm sorry, let's backtrack a
- 15:05bit. So, so the government does receive word that survivors from UH these
- 15:13from the disappearing vessels were found. In fact, they were washed up on
- 15:18a near one of the Near island, an island nearby called Otto Island.
- 15:24They conveyed they convene to decide what they're going to do. In the meanwhile,
- 15:28the survivor, who also happened to be a native of Auto Island,
- 15:33UH tells begins telling the people, the local people, that he thought it
- 15:39was a submarine, but it may have been something else. That's when some
- 15:43of the older some of the elder villagers start talking about it's probably gojira and
- 15:50but most people dismiss it because it's just really a folk telle at this point.
- 15:52But they can't deny that fishing has pretty much dried up around the island,
- 15:58so they're not catching any fish or anything like that while they're on While
- 16:03they're on the island, something happens. Strange winds begin to blowing off of
- 16:12the ocean, and the villagers take shelter. While they're taking shelter the shelter,
- 16:21the survivor realizes that this wind was exactly the same as what he experienced
- 16:27when his ship got destroyed. So he runs outside. Yeah, he runs
- 16:33outside because you know, reasons thinking because he thinks it's a He doesn't believe
- 16:41it was a living creature, and he thinks, Okay, well, you
- 16:42know, I'm gonna go fuck this bitch up. So he grabs a knife
- 16:45and runs outside. His brother. Yeah, his brother and his mother try
- 16:52to stop him, but all they hear from him outside is like this just
- 16:57screams, and uh, pretty much when the chapter ends, the house gets
- 17:06torn down, and uh, that's pretty much where the chapter ends. Doesn't
- 17:11really go further into that. The research vessel does later appear on the islands
- 17:18and they find it half of it in ruins. They has been completely ruined.
- 17:22Uh, Lenny. The houses were reduced to rubble. Several people were
- 17:29killed, and when asking the survivor the surviving villagers, they say that,
- 17:34they start saying the same thing. It was go Jita. And the researchers
- 17:41are baffled because they did receive reports that it could have been a live like
- 17:45a like a live animal, but they weren't sure because at first their estimates
- 17:49were suggesting that the animal wasn't as big as a thought. So then they
- 17:53find a footprint. I mean, the truth is in the footprint. Yeah,
- 18:00so honestly, like they've they that whole footprint scene has been used so
- 18:07many times throughout the franchise, like Matthew Brojerck's movie Get Uh. They find
- 18:12a big ass footprint from left by Godzilla, and and he's just standing there.
- 18:19He's just standing there, Like what am I supposed to be looking for?
- 18:22Like, where's the where's the evidence. He said there was a sample,
- 18:26there was a sample here, where is it? And the generals and
- 18:29the colonel is just like, you're standing in it. It's just big ass
- 18:33Godzilla foot pretty the same thing. Uh. While they're conducting their investigation of
- 18:37the islands, the villagers begin sounding an alarm and they're saying that Godzilla has
- 18:44been spot out on the other side of the island, and they all began
- 18:45running towards, like because the island is kind of like flit in half by
- 18:52like a small mountain, So they begin running up a path to try to
- 18:56see get a look on the other side of the island. And as they're
- 19:00getting towards, the researchers end up going with the villagers to try to get
- 19:03a peak at what is causing the commotion. And before any of them can
- 19:10reach the peak of the of this hill, they see Godzilla's head just kind
- 19:15of like, oh god he's getting he's making a demonstration. They just see
- 19:23Godzilla's head come up like but that's pretty much exactly what happens. People freak
- 19:37out, they go running for their lives. Godzilla doesn't come over the hill,
- 19:41in fact, he just goes he turns around and walks back down the
- 19:44other way. After they compose themselves, they run back up to the hill,
- 19:49and while they don't see him enter the going to the sea, they
- 19:52can see his trail of footprints leading down into the ocean. At this point
- 20:02they more ships begin to go missing, and they start the government starts noticing
- 20:07that the missing ships are following a path. So it's slowly getting closer to
- 20:14Tokyo. So, or rather not Tokyo. It's like, uh, let's
- 20:22see here, where does Godzilla first step? All right, so to doo
- 20:36okay this is so they have reason to believe that Godzilla is going to make
- 20:42landfall in an area uh in this in that one bay area of Tokyo and
- 20:48so uh they begin issuing evacuation orders for uh Minato, Shinagawa, and Ota
- 20:57and other coastal wards. Eventually, Godzilla does make landfall and he attacks one
- 21:10of the wards before going back into the ocean. Military defenses didn't really do
- 21:15shit to him. They had tanks, they had tanks, they shot missiles.
- 21:21Nothing affected him, and if anything, all it did was all Godzilla
- 21:25did was in response was to shoot out his atomic breath and the boy.
- 21:30The book describes as atomic breath isn't really like a breath attack or more like
- 21:34or anything like like shooting fire from his mouth. The way it's just his
- 21:41atomic breath is described in the book. Is his spines light up and then
- 21:47there's a flash of light and everything is just bathe and then everything just bursts
- 21:52into flames. That's actually, yeah, yeah, it really is. It
- 22:00really was terrifying. Godzilla goes back into the ocean for a bit, and
- 22:06the Japanese Defense Force rethinks their strategy for handling them for handling him, and
- 22:11they instead set up a sort of net around the coastal region. It's just
- 22:17basically like power lines. They think that maybe instead of just shooting Godzilla full
- 22:22of lead, they could try to electrocute him or at least repel him using
- 22:26like high voltage wires. Doesn't work. He comes back on He comes back
- 22:30onto land, and he barrels right through the electrified fence and he goes on
- 22:37another rampage, this time through the Greater region of Tokyo, and the devastation
- 22:42was insane. He destroys like a good chunk of the city. He burns
- 22:51everything to the ground, and he's destroying buildings a lot of people die,
- 22:55and there's this one scene in the original movie, like when I first watched
- 23:00God's The Looking of the Monsters. They cut out a lot of scenes and
- 23:03they changed a lot of things around so it was less shocking and more appealing
- 23:08to the American audience. And also they edited in an American character. It's
- 23:14like a news reporter. And when I found that out, I was like,
- 23:17Oh, this is that's a bullshit right here. I want to see
- 23:21what it's like in the original. So I found the original they on DVD,
- 23:25watched it and I'm like, oh, this is so much better.
- 23:27Story makes so much sense. Now. Yeah, watched its American one,
- 23:33but I've watched the Japanese. Can only imagine. Yeah, because I told
- 23:37you to watch the Japanese version, don't worry about the American version. So
- 23:45uh, but yeah, there was one really after that. After this attack,
- 23:52there was a really shocking scene where you could just see like, of
- 23:56course you can see all the demolished buildings, but there was a hospital of
- 24:00survivors, many people suffering from radiation burns and just like a wide range of
- 24:07injuries. There was one scene where there was this woman who unfortunately passed away
- 24:14from her injuries, and she had a little girl, and the little girl
- 24:18started crying and I'm just like, oh my god. No. Yeah.
- 24:32So there's a lot of other human asp like, there's a lot of human
- 24:37aspects in the movie Slash Book, and I'm not gonna get into everything.
- 24:45There's one professor. There's one professor. So there was one character whose name
- 24:51is Professor Giamane, and he believes Godzilla is a wonder of nature and he
- 24:55thinks that instead of trying to kill him, they should try to study him.
- 25:00But the thing is is that Godzilla is too dangerous. They can't.
- 25:04He is what would be described godzillas, what would be described as an extremophile,
- 25:08so he has a life form that can survive in the most brutal and
- 25:11extreme conditions. An example of an extremophile would be a form of like would
- 25:18be forms of archebacteria which grow around volcanoes, which are as you as you
- 25:25can imagine, are very hot. There's even a species of volcanic snails that
- 25:30live that are there deep sea snails, and they they live. They you
- 25:41can find them mostly in the deep in like the deep sea, and they
- 25:45mostly you can also you mostly find them around hydro thermal vents, which are
- 25:49just like these events that are constantly spewing out minerals so much as like a
- 25:55it's not a volcanic a volcano, but they are considered a form of volcanic
- 25:57activity. Is it? Like temperatures around hydrothermal events are pretty like are pretty
- 26:03high, so these snails have adapted to live and not to live in those
- 26:08extremely hot conditions. And also there's there's shells they've adapted because they're able to
- 26:18get such a high amount of iron from the high hydro thermal events, they've
- 26:22adapted uh that iron into their shells, so they literally grow metal shells and
- 26:29armor plates around them. So it's kind of like those are examples of extremo
- 26:36files, and Godzilla is like the extremists of extremo files because you know,
- 26:40because missiles, tanks, dimensional weaponry, nothing to hurt them health. Hell,
- 26:48he's they they've already theorized at this point that Godzilla was a result of
- 26:52the atomic testing in the Bikini Atoll. Gee would give them that idea,
- 26:59mmmm, Phil, because really what gave him that idea was in their initial
- 27:03investigation of Otto Island, they had Geiger readers with them and as they were
- 27:11scanning the landscape, they discovered that there was there was radioactive contamination on the
- 27:15island, even though like there shouldn't be. Yeah, so they know Godzilla
- 27:22is radio act. Godzilla gives off a form of some form of radioactive mace.
- 27:27And of course the running theory is that he was he was some sort
- 27:32of deep sea creature that was exposed to the radiation from the atomic tests and
- 27:37it mutated him into this into what we have now. And although Professor Yamani
- 27:45wants to keep him alive, the rest of them wants to preserve him and
- 27:51study him. The rest of the government think no, they yeah. Yamani
- 27:57happens to be a very close into another researcher, I know, sarahza that's
- 28:03his name. So he was close friends to another researcher named doctor Sarazawa.
- 28:11Now sarah Zawa is a bit of a recluse. He spends most of his
- 28:15time in his home where his laboratory is set up and he and he's doing
- 28:19a form of confidential research that he uses to share with anybody, at least
- 28:26with a very select few people. At one point he does show doctor Yamani's
- 28:30daughter what he was working on, and he forced her to swear not to
- 28:36tell anybody about his research because, for one thing, his research is intended
- 28:41as a form I believe it was supposed to be intended as a form of
- 28:45like alternative energy or like something else, entirely as a way to break down
- 28:53radioactive contamination. But the thing is is that he also recognize that the that
- 29:03his research also has can also be used in the form of weapon and application,
- 29:07and he's terrified of anybody figuring out about it and start using it as
- 29:12a terrible weapon, because we already got the atomic weapons, this can what
- 29:17he's working on is way worse. Yeah, most definitely. But after witnessing
- 29:22the destruction caused by Godzilla, Sarazawa's I'm sorry, doctor Yamane's daughter decides it's
- 29:30time to tell his secret because she knows that if anything can kill Godzilla,
- 29:37it would be doctor Sarazawa's research what he's working on, And so she tells
- 29:45the authorities what he's working on, and it's revealed that what he's working on
- 29:53is something called an oxygen destroyer. Its intended purpose is like a said to
- 30:00break down radioactive waste. But the thing is is that it breaks down the
- 30:07I believe the way he says what he described it is as and this is
- 30:11movie science guy, This is movie science guys. So it's not actually real.
- 30:15So you know, you don't got nothing to worry about. Don't come
- 30:18for me, saying like, oh, that's not factually correct, Like I
- 30:21know that and I don't really care, so don't come for me. Uh
- 30:25So, the oxygen destroyer works by breaking down them in lecular bonds of oxygen
- 30:32atoms, and when it does that, it causes rapid automization of living organisms.
- 30:40So if a life form is exposed to the oxygen destroyer, because most
- 30:48things like living things, like living things in otherwise actually use oxygen and it's
- 30:53everyday function, including even in saying in things that we wouldn't expect like bond
- 31:00ding like molecular bonds. You never would have guessed that oxygen is also can
- 31:04be used as like an as a bond. Hell, like, if oxygen
- 31:08was to suddenly disappear from the Earth, most buildings around the world will immediately
- 31:12collapse because of the because of how like some like steel and concrete uses oxygen
- 31:19as a bonding agent. It was just I didn't know that, Yeah,
- 31:26interesting. Yeah, it's a it's a random fact that I saw from one
- 31:30of those digitale pages on like social media. Like I need to like look
- 31:36it up if I'm factually incorrect. Like I said, I don't care.
- 31:37It's a movie. It's movie logic. So uh so when he actually did
- 31:45a Demons showed, gave a demonstration to her, she uh, sarah Zawa
- 31:49drop this little bead containing the uh, the oxygen destroyer, and when the
- 31:55bead he put this bead in a fish tank and when it went off,
- 32:01all the fish immediately disintegrated. Yeah, and just a that's just like a
- 32:09marble Yeah, that's just a marble sized oxygen destroyer. If it was something
- 32:15bigger, it could wipe out an entire city or more, it could wipe
- 32:19out it could wipe out life on the planet. But she, as well
- 32:27as several of her friends, go to Sarazawa and they convince him to use
- 32:32his oxygen destroyer as weapon to kill Godzilla. He's not happy about it at
- 32:37first, and initially he refuses staunchly, and it does like lead into like
- 32:42a small fight between them, but he does. He doesn't eventually agree,
- 32:49but he ends up destroying his research notes and all the paperwork that he had
- 32:54on the subject, so that way no one can replicate his work. I
- 33:00mean eventually someone will, but it I mean, yeah, now they're gonna
- 33:06have to start from scratch. They're not gonna be able to figure out from
- 33:10from what he like his using his logic, so using his research, I'm
- 33:16sorry. And he builds a bigger oxygen destroyers, like a basketball sized metal
- 33:27ball contained within like a cylinder, and Godzilla had retreated to a deeper part
- 33:34of the bay area outside off the coast of Japan. They lead a team
- 33:40and sarah Zawa, alongside another scuba diver, go down and they find Godzilla.
- 33:47Sarah Zawa, however, didn't tell anybody that he was planning on not
- 33:52coming back, because even if his notes were golf, even if he destroyed
- 33:57all his work, eventually the people are gonna start pressuring him into continuing his
- 34:01work with the oxygen Destroyer, and while and he just doesn't want that now
- 34:07that people know it can be used as a weapon, he doesn't want to
- 34:09be a part of that. So he just wants to make sure that the
- 34:13Oxygen Destroyer never again. Yeah, So he on their way down, he
- 34:21damages his the other scuba divers equipment, forcing him to return to the surface,
- 34:28and he goes down he finds Godzilla and he sets off the oxygen destroyer
- 34:32and it completely kills Godzilla. Like Godzilla at first, like his regenitive abilities
- 34:37try to like stave off the process of disintegration, and towards the end you
- 34:44see Godzilla kind of just like rise up out of the ocean and he's ripping
- 34:49in pain, he's screaming, and finally he just sinks back down into the
- 34:52ocean and all that's left is his bones, completely stripped of all flesh yep.
- 34:59So, so that's pretty much where that ends. Like, there's there's
- 35:02a lot more the human element that I didn't really talk about, honestly,
- 35:07Like a lot of the given the element is just really talking about the who's
- 35:12and the whys and the philosophies of whether or not it's right to kill Godzilla
- 35:16or to attack them or hell like why Like it's the who's and the why
- 35:22why is Godzilla? That's where that's really like a lot uh in That's really
- 35:28what a lot of the old Godzilla films were about, at least the more
- 35:30serious ones. It's like why is Godzilla. Oh because humans are dumb.
- 35:36Yeah, usually answer, because humans are dumb. They did they fucked around
- 35:40with and they found out. Like, yeah, they fucked around and found
- 35:45out. I mean, that's really what scientific research is. It's just fucking
- 35:46around and finding out what Godzilla are. They really found out. Oh yeah,
- 35:53they really found out. And so that's radish where Godzilla ends. There's
- 35:59a lot more that I didn't talk about, but that's because this actually has
- 36:02two books in it, so we're gonna go over both of them in this.
- 36:07See it's not even that big. Yeah, it's like I read like
- 36:09honestly, I read like I read Godzilla. I finished that within like a
- 36:15week, and but it took me longer to finish Godzilla Raids Again because I'll
- 36:22be honest, Godzilla Raids Again was not my favorite. Like, in fact,
- 36:27it is probably my least favorite I had the entire franchise, which is
- 36:30saying something because Matthew Brodericks Godzilla is the worst in my opinion. The origin
- 36:40the original American Eyes Got American Godzilla that came out in nineteen ninety eight.
- 36:45Do you leave Zella alone? Zella tries her best? Okay, no,
- 36:51she doesn't. No, you like the TV series. See the TV series
- 36:58had its own redemption, actually fixed some ship that was wrong with the movie.
- 37:01Okay, the movie was trash, all right. The so called atomic
- 37:05breath scene that we were supposed to get was just like a little puff of
- 37:07fire. That was it. And then she gets nerved by a bunch of
- 37:15missiles like Godzilla like and there's no a single monster. There's not a single
- 37:23Godzilla film where Godzilla gets nerved by a couple of missiles, like, not
- 37:30one. I see you trying to think of it. But no, look,
- 37:36hey, hey, look at me, Look at me, Devin,
- 37:37look at me, look at me. No, yeah, yeah, because
- 37:43I see you trying to think like, oh, there was there was probably
- 37:45a movie where Godzilla gets taken down by a missile. No, no,
- 37:50the thing you think you think there are several There were several films where,
- 37:53like you know, he does get overwhelmed with by some missiles. But whoa
- 38:00whoa whoa whoa whoa wo whoa spoiler alert, no spoiler alert for anyone who
- 38:07has not seen God's all this one. Didn't they take him out? No,
- 38:13it was a plan. It was even worse. I was a plane
- 38:15that took him out, wasn't it. It was a planet, yes,
- 38:20but yes, but after everything they already Look, let me tell you something.
- 38:23This guy's little was not the strongest. All right, don't go there,
- 38:30don't go there. You could take it out by a plane. There
- 38:32worse than a messig, at least the other one. He got taken out,
- 38:36He got his face got blown off by a mind because he it was
- 38:40in his mouth, but his face grew back. The reason why I did
- 38:44it this time was because they had already done a lot of other things.
- 38:47Hey, hey, look at me, look at me. No, okay,
- 38:52pick and choose now. Granted again spoilers. He did die, but
- 39:00there's something else happening with the remains of that Godzilla, which will hopefully say
- 39:05he's not really. So he's not really. We don't know. We don't
- 39:07know to what extent, if he's actually growing back, or if this is
- 39:09like the origin of all the other kayjus, So we don't exactly know what
- 39:14his remains are happening there and the mark on her neck and that character's and
- 39:19if you watch it, you know you know, but like we don't know
- 39:22what's gonna happen with those body parts. We already know this. I already
- 39:27know there's gonna be a sequel. They can't at this point, God's Willa
- 39:34minus one, they can't not make a sequel, Holy holy ship. All
- 39:42I saw was like a blurt out like thing moving around in the background.
- 39:45What is that? That's my dog? That's my dog, Shelley. I
- 39:50forgot she was in here. Yeah, I saw her hip pop up and
- 39:53I was like, who the fuck is that? Oh, it's a dog,
- 39:57It's Shelley. Yeah. So okay, point in case, there is
- 40:06gonna be a sequel. They haven't announced one yet, but I'm pretty sure
- 40:08there's gonna because at this point, God'silla minus one is the most successful foreign
- 40:14film in America. But don't say, oh no, Zilla is the only
- 40:19one that got taken out by a missile. One minus one got taken out
- 40:22by a plane and a mine sling case and point thinking. He literally recovered
- 40:34from the mind and he returned planes because he was frozen after they dropped his
- 40:38ass down into the depths and rose him back up rapidly. Okay, that
- 40:44wasn't more stream form of punishment, then it wasn't an extreme form of damage
- 40:50being done to him. Okay, more than anything than a regular set of
- 40:53missiles and a bunch of lead being shot at him. Okay, it looks
- 41:00at me, No, Future Devin, look at me, Look at me,
- 41:04No Devin. If you can make it, If you can make a
- 41:07tally board, put one point for Devon, put zero for Jacob. Think
- 41:12down, Uh, Devin, Future Devon put uh one point for Devon and
- 41:16one hundred points for Jacob, because I've already made a hundred points well over
- 41:21you many times in the past. You got one, You got one.
- 41:24Okay, that's all you got. Oh wow, all right. Anyway,
- 41:29so moving on, we got the other half of the book. Yeah,
- 41:31Godzilla raids again. So, as I was saying before I was really interrupted,
- 41:37okay, raise again. Was my uh was one of my least favorites,
- 41:42just because it was. I just it's never really when I watched it,
- 41:47it just never really captured my attention the way that God's Alla did.
- 41:54It never really like it came off to me as something silly and light hearted,
- 42:00whereas like Godzilla was more serious. Now I don't know if they did
- 42:05that because they wanted to try to like appeal to different audiences, make gods
- 42:10a little more friendly and appealing. No, Like, what makee Godzilla is
- 42:15so successful was the fact that he was brutal and he was like destructive and
- 42:21dangerous and he was scary because Gonzilla is is is a horror monster. It's
- 42:25a uh socially moving again and again. But no, yeah, the original
- 42:37ones more like if you especially if you watch the movie. The book is
- 42:39kind of the same way too, but if you watch the movie, it's
- 42:43a lot more. It's ooky, spooky, like the black and white utilize.
- 42:49Yeah, it's a horror film. They utilize the black and white of
- 42:51their advantage, and he looks terrifying in the original. But then Raids Again
- 42:57comes out and it's a there's only two movies that were in black and white,
- 43:00and that was Godzilla and Godzilla Raids Again. Those are the only two
- 43:04movies that were Raids Again came out a few Both movies came out in the
- 43:08fifties, and then after that all that, all the other movies that came
- 43:13out after that were from the sixties and seventies, and those movies were much
- 43:17we're all in color. Yeah, and while they weren't as silly, well,
- 43:22most of them weren't as silly as Raids again, they had a more
- 43:28serious tone. Also, like if you watched Raids again in the black and
- 43:32white lighting, it was a lot more brighter, so you you could see
- 43:37how ridiculous Godzilla looked in that lighting, because you know, this was back
- 43:42when they were still using robber suits, when Godzilla had a more toad like
- 43:45face. Oh god, I remember that. I remember that one there because
- 43:52there was because Godzilla had many different his appearance change like changes throughout the entire
- 44:00franchise. Like the original Godzilla was definitely more serious, and they they promas
- 44:06used the same suit from the second and the second movie, but it was,
- 44:09you know, Sillier, I just thought it was silly because immediately,
- 44:14like so the story starts off, it's pretty said, it's you can kind
- 44:21of see a theme. It's like fishermen, uh, because this time there's
- 44:25like several commercial vessels fishing fishing vessels, and they utilize a seaplane to fly
- 44:34up and spot out schools of fish so that way the boats could come in
- 44:37and quickly net them up and things and something like that. Right, well,
- 44:43he gets a the seaplane gets a uh. One of the seaplanes gets
- 44:46to discress, just stress call from the one of the other ones flying in
- 44:51the area that it had gotten that it had gone down, so he mounts
- 44:54a rescue ends up going to an U acting that ship down to a nearby
- 45:00island. He lands to sea plane to go find the pilot who's survived,
- 45:06and while when he finds him, they also he also finds that Godzilla is
- 45:09on the island and or another Godzilla is on the island, because remember this
- 45:15this one is a direct sequel to Godzilla, so this is another Godzilla the
- 45:20other one had They they do reference that the other one was killed. Was
- 45:22this one like a like a child or some shit, or just another one?
- 45:29It was just another one, Okay, there was another fully grown Godzilla,
- 45:34and and what was shocking to them was that Godzilla was fighting another colossal
- 45:39creature technically like this creature becomes known as Angeris in later films, but in
- 45:47this film and slash book, he's just called an ankulosaurus because his appearance more
- 45:54directly looks like a like an ankylosaurus. Those who don't who who strangely enough,
- 46:01don't know what an angula source looks like. They look like a giant
- 46:04armadillo, but with spikes coming out of their back. That's pretty much what
- 46:08he An image will show up on the screen if you're watching the video,
- 46:12the video portion of the pod, I'll show up on the screen to show
- 46:15you what what he looks like. But yeah, he does look like that
- 46:19type of dinosaur basically. Anyway, Now, Godzilla was it is believed to
- 46:29be directly related to like certain dinosaur species, like there is they actually do
- 46:35relate into a dinosaur called a Godzilla saurus, and he's just like a irradiated
- 46:42mutated cousin. Yeah. But so, yeah, they find Godzilla and Angeiris.
- 46:49I'm gonna I'm just gonna refer to him as Angeuris because that's the name
- 46:51I've always known that monster by. Uh. They're fighting, they're duking it
- 46:55out, and if you watch the movie, it is kind of it looks
- 46:58kind of silly, just the way rolling around like fighting each other, and
- 47:02eventually their fight uh if the fight nearly kills the two pilots, but they
- 47:07managed to escape and return to Japan to warn the country that hey, there's
- 47:10not just one, but there's two monsters now and the other and one of
- 47:14them is Godzilla is another woo. So they're trying to figure out why ways
- 47:22to defend the country from the two monsters. Eventually, the two monsters do
- 47:28come to shore and they fight on land before being chased off before Godzilla chases
- 47:36and gears back out into the ocean, just like UH. Just like his
- 47:39first Just like his cousins first landing a few years earlier, UH leaves widespread
- 47:45devastation. This time it was uh in Osaka, hm and uh Osaka.
- 47:52It is Osaka because Osaka is the city with that big castle, right,
- 47:58It's like a big towering castle. I think so, yeah, I think
- 48:01so. I mean, hold on, future, Devin edit that back,
- 48:06so future the part out baby once I see it. Don't know what it
- 48:16is, Yep, it is because like, well, hand on, let
- 48:22me let me post it on the chat post on the chat post in the
- 48:25video so people can get a look. So the funny thing about this castle,
- 48:31hold on, what is it called? This is the uh I think
- 48:37I think it's just called Osaka Castle. Mm hmm. Yeah. It's one
- 48:46of Japan's most famous landmarks and ship like that, And that castle becomes iconic
- 48:52throughout the entire franchise because that's one of the buildings that gets to Dedroid the
- 49:00most in this fight between these two colossal monsters. Yeah, in this fight
- 49:09between the two there you go. They end up fighting. Like their fight
- 49:21pushes him towards his castle and they end up destroying it and it ends up
- 49:27being destroyed. I don't know how many more times throughout the franchise, Helen
- 49:30even in shin Godzilla, you see it again, but he doesn't destroy it.
- 49:34Yeah, but anyway, Godzilla does eventually uh chase. He does eventually
- 49:44chase and gearis down to another another, another island, and they fight once
- 49:49again, and this time Godzilla kills Angiris, so he's dead. Deceased.
- 49:54Now, the Japanese Self Defense Force has to figure out what are they gonna
- 50:00do about Godzilla because he's moving steadily north along the coast and eventually reaches an
- 50:07island that is covered in ice and snow, and the Self Defense Force gets
- 50:13this idea, why not try trapping Godzilla in ice? Yeah, this island
- 50:19works, well, it does. They lead, they mountain its back on
- 50:24Godzilla and they managed to trap him in this gorge valley area. They shoot
- 50:31missiles at the surrounding ice and rock and it causes an avalanche that buries Godzilla
- 50:37and that's pretty much how the book ends, like Godzilla is defeated quote unquote,
- 50:45and now he's frozen and buried under all that ice. He doesn't come
- 50:49out, And I think it's like it works because the intense cold makes it
- 50:54hard for Godzilla to maintain his natural body heat even though he's radioactive. I
- 50:59guess ice helps counteract that radioactive heat and it just slows him down. But
- 51:07that's pretty much it. There's a lot more in the story. Honestly,
- 51:10Like I skimmed through this book and I just can't really like get into it.
- 51:15That's why it's one of my least hevorite because it just doesn't keep my
- 51:19attention. And yeah, I will say I'm sorry that I didn't really pay
- 51:28much attention to the story. I mean, yeah, it's like it's the
- 51:30second movie, it's the second installation of the entire franchise. That's pretty much
- 51:37now the story goes. There's somewhat of a human element, like faster.
- 51:43Yamani does make an appearance in this book again and he offers his advice and
- 51:47still he's this time he's more amicable to like dealing with Godzilla. He does
- 51:53see him more of a threat now. But whether or not. He still
- 51:58thinks they should preserve and study Godzilla is never really it's not a topic that's
- 52:01approached, but really it the human element is centered around that that that seaplane
- 52:10pilot and his friends. So and that's another thing that happens is that in
- 52:15this movie, in like Godzilla franchise, is that he focuses on characters that
- 52:21don't really have much influence or direct connection to like the story as a whole.
- 52:30It is just more like that human aspect. And they do a lot
- 52:34of the who's, whys and hows of Godzilla, and sometimes you just don't
- 52:39Yeah, sometimes you just don't need the whos and whys. Mm hmm,
- 52:45Well, yeah, you just need people who actually know what they're doing and
- 52:47who are actually gonna make a difference. I mean, the sea the seaplane
- 52:51pilot. He does take part in the final fight with Godzilla because he's a
- 52:58seaplane to Lord Godzilla to that area where he gets buried and all that ice
- 53:02and snow. Mm hmm. But that my ship. If you guys want
- 53:09to check out, of course, check this stuff out. Of course.
- 53:13This book is on sale in Amazon. I'm not sure if they have any
- 53:15more copies left because it did sell out pretty quickly. It did, But
- 53:19if they have more did it sold out for a bit? It might have
- 53:24more now because I know because it was the This is the first time that
- 53:30these novels have been translated and released in the United States, so it kind
- 53:35of was a big deal originally. Yeah. Yeah, they still have copies,
- 53:42that's gucci. Yeah, they still copies. Yeah. If not,
- 53:44then if you can't find a physical copy, they also have it for digital
- 53:47as well, because I have it digitally currently. But no, yeah,
- 53:52they still have digital copies. But yeah, if you want, if you
- 53:55want to read the original, if you want to read the original atation of
- 54:01novelization. Sorry, that's the proper wording novelization of the Godzilla film to first
- 54:07of Godzilla films right there for you. Yep. You can find it on
- 54:10Amazon for kindle and physical copy. Of course, you can also watch the
- 54:15movies. Stay. I believe Godzilla is streamable on either Max or Amazon.
- 54:22Let me double check. It might be two be because some of them are
- 54:27on to B as well. Some of them are about all of them god
- 54:35Zilla Night okay, two B so fifty four so that yeah, it sounds
- 54:43toob but it's also on Prime Video and on tax Just make sure to watch
- 54:47the original Japanese version. The American version is trash, all right, It
- 54:53makes no sense. It just makes no sense because it's mostly just narration from
- 54:59this American journalists. There's no real art need to be there. Yeah.
- 55:07When I found that out and I watched the original Japanese version, I realized,
- 55:12God, this is so much better. Hell, I don't even watch
- 55:15the Japanese movies in English dub anymore because if you watch them in English dub,
- 55:19especially like the older movies, you'll like miss out on They'll they'll change
- 55:23a lot like that. They changed a lot in the American dubs, even
- 55:27if they didn't edit it to like include American characters and stuff, like what
- 55:30they did with the first movie. They changed the dubbing the translation around because
- 55:37they thought, Okay, it'll make more sense if we changed the the lines
- 55:42to this. Yeah, right, because they think yeah, But no,
- 55:47they didn't. If anything, they cut out a lot of information like that
- 55:52was important to the story, like uh so in later in one of the
- 55:58later movies, Godzilliver's Mathra, Mathra laid an egg that hatched into two caterpillars
- 56:08and late in one of the movies after that. I think it was,
- 56:14Uh, it was either Destroyal Monsters or I think which movie it was,
- 56:23because there was another movie where you see Mathra again, but it was so
- 56:28like Mathra. The adult Mathra dies in Gouzilla versus Mathra and her two caterpillars
- 56:34survive and they go back to Infant Island. Probably was No. I think
- 56:43it was either Godzilla. It was either a Godor or the Three Headed Monster
- 56:45because Mathra shows up again but as a caterpillar or Destroying No, it was
- 56:53the Three Headed Monster because uh so like there, like initially they were,
- 57:01there were three monsters that had their own standalone films. It was Godzilla,
- 57:08Rodan, and Mathra. They all had their own movies and then eventually they
- 57:13all get their own they all get a crossover with Godzilla, like Rodan didn't
- 57:21get it. Rodin did not get like his own standalone like Godzilla like crossover
- 57:25with Godzilla, or he it's just him and Godzilla fighting like how it was
- 57:29with Mathra. I think like the first time Rodan crosses over is in godor
- 57:34the Three Headed Monster, because it takes Godzilla, Mathern and Godzilla, Mathra
- 57:38and Rodan to all fight against King Yidora. And when Mathra was called into
- 57:43action because like Mathra has these little like foot foot tall fairies who act as
- 57:52priestesses from Athro because they they worship her as a goddess and they're able to
- 57:57call Mathra to come help them. And when the Japanese government asks them to
- 58:04call Mathra to help them fight King Gidoro, they do, but they also
- 58:07ask her like they well, they were talking to them because they would regularly
- 58:10come back to Japan to like improve relations between Infant Island and the Japanese government.
- 58:16Because if you watch the original mathraa movie, But what what caused Mathra
- 58:21to go on a rampage was because some uh entrepreneurs kidnapped the fairies and they
- 58:30call Mathra and she comes and she destroys Tokyo trying to rescue them. I
- 58:35mean, don't take her girl. So yeah and so, and then later
- 58:40on, of course the egg like the whole thing with Godzil Godzilliver versus Mathra
- 58:45happened and then Godora comes in and it was in that movie like they the
- 58:52fairies came to Japan as part of like an outreach program, and while they
- 58:57were talking to them. Someone asked them because like, if you the point
- 59:00I was trying to get to, and I went on a huge segway was
- 59:02that in the English dubs they often exclude or change what's being said, like
- 59:08the information. And for the longest time, because I'd only watched the English
- 59:13stubs of these movies, I was like, wait a second. There was
- 59:16two. There was two Larva guzz in Guzli versus month, there was two.
- 59:21There was two caterpillars, but in this, next, in this,
- 59:24in this movie after that, there was only one. What happened to the
- 59:28other one? And they never and they never said it in the English dub,
- 59:30like what happened to the other one? Right? And I finally I
- 59:34thought, I wonder if it's like what do they say in Japanese? So
- 59:36I just listened to it in Japanese and in the Japanese sub and in the
- 59:40Japanese version they literally say what happened to it? They're like, oh,
- 59:45hey, like what happened to the other one? Like someone asked them,
- 59:46like, so, what happened to the other caterpillar? And the fairs were
- 59:50like, oh, it died, And they could just put out one line
- 59:54in there uh huh, I guess because well, because they in America,
- 59:59they of these these films were often catered to kids. So they yeah,
- 1:00:05and you know how American American media they're very like picky and touch you and
- 1:00:14like what you put in your movies, especially if kids will if there's a
- 1:00:19chance that kids will see it. Yeah, and so they probably changed it
- 1:00:22up because I didn't want to acknowledge the fact that, oh there's av pillar
- 1:00:27died. Oh no, oh no, caterpillar died. Oh no. So
- 1:00:35yeah, so I highly recommend watching the original Japanese Godzilla of the nine fifty
- 1:00:40four Godzilla and at this point just lit'ten Just watch it in Japanese with English
- 1:00:45subtitles because you'll learn a lot more from the story that way. And the
- 1:00:50same with Godzilla Ries Again even if you don't like it. I didn't really
- 1:00:53like it because it just didn't capture my attention like the other movies did.
- 1:00:57I mean, hey, Raise Again wasn't the only movie that was that was
- 1:01:00silly that I didn't really care about. If you watch like movies like Godzilla
- 1:01:06versus Megalon, Godzlivers's Guy Again and pretty much god Delivers hetera like the movies,
- 1:01:12like there was a string of movies that came out in the early seventies.
- 1:01:15Yeah, those movies were Those movies were not only stupid, but they
- 1:01:20were also like they were kind of tripped. They were there were a trip
- 1:01:22I think like some of the producers were on something, you know, the
- 1:01:27seventies because if you watch Godzilla versus I think it was either Megal, Yeah,
- 1:01:36it was Megal Megalon there's a they introduced a character named Jet Jaguar and
- 1:01:44it's basically ultraman except he's a robot. And gods Oliver, god Oliver,
- 1:01:53et cetera was the trippiest out of them all because they really did a lot
- 1:01:58of the you know, like there was you know, like the seventies had
- 1:02:00this deal with psychedelics and stuff like that, like psychedelic imagery. There was
- 1:02:07like a whole scene in Goudziliver, etcetera. Where they're in a club and
- 1:02:10I guess, like this dude got high or something and he was tripping balls.
- 1:02:15So yeah, so Raids again wasn't the only like week movie in the
- 1:02:22franchise, but it was just want to Yeah, Gotsilla definitely. I'll definitely
- 1:02:28give Godzilla five out of five raids. Again, I'm just gonna give it
- 1:02:32a three out of five. It was still good, but it wasn't as
- 1:02:37good as the original. But anyway, that's all we have. I can
- 1:02:46go all, we can go on all day talking about Godzilla, but of
- 1:02:51course you can't. You can't. You can't watch any of you honestly can't
- 1:02:55get into the newer films without watching the old films. If you don't want
- 1:02:59to watch them all, Okay, that's fine. Uh, at least watched
- 1:03:02the original one because you know this one right here coming to you from the
- 1:03:08did you groupie your himself? Yeah? Yeah, I tell that to anybody
- 1:03:16who gets into Godzilla because hell hell, I told this to random strangers when
- 1:03:22I went to go see shin Godzilla for the first time. This was back
- 1:03:24in twenty fifteen and I was living in Orlando at the time. I was
- 1:03:29in college, and I skipped the lap just go see it. I mean
- 1:03:32I would have too, but granted I didn't see Shen Godzilla until like twenty
- 1:03:37what, twenty nineteen? When first, ye, I told you about it?
- 1:03:42Yeah, And I was like yeah, Like we were talking about the
- 1:03:45new we were talking about legendary pictures, Godzilla's and King of the Monsters just
- 1:03:51came out or it was about to come out, and you I don't remember
- 1:03:55a conversation exactly, but I think you mentioned like how you wish they come
- 1:04:01out with new stuff. Yeah, and I'm like, and I asked you
- 1:04:04have you seen shin Godzilla? And you're like, is that? And I
- 1:04:09was like, oh, well, I think I mentioned something along the lines
- 1:04:13of I wish they made like a Godzilla that was more like ooky spooky,
- 1:04:17and of course I'm always on a cosmic horror kick. And you're like,
- 1:04:21oh, you should watch shin Godzilla. They did because it was directed by
- 1:04:29the dude who made Evan Gillian. If you've watched Evan Gillian, it's very
- 1:04:33like, it's very like cosmic horror spooky, yeah kind of, and you're
- 1:04:39just like, fibe. I was like, okay, And then you watched
- 1:04:42it and you're all like and you were just like, oh, it's eltrich
- 1:04:45like it's very getting very and then there's a whole episode on it on spook
- 1:04:53because you did a whole Kaijumuth last year last year, and girl is it's
- 1:05:00it's full on cosmic horror. And I was not disappointing. I watched the
- 1:05:04dub of it first, but I did watch the sub after and the dub.
- 1:05:10The duve that I guess it was fundation that fundimationd wasn't too bad,
- 1:05:13but because I was like, because I think you went on on your one
- 1:05:15of your little rants about the dub versus the sub as or as the Godzilla
- 1:05:19films, and I'm like, Okay, I'll go back and watch the Shin
- 1:05:24Godzilla subbed and I'm like, oh, okay, it didn't change much of
- 1:05:30anything in this one anyway. So I don't know the other newer ones newer
- 1:05:33h Granted, this Shin Godzilla is the latest one since like what two thousand,
- 1:05:39two thousand, two thousand and four or something that was last one before
- 1:05:42that, Shin guds Ala. Like, so it was the first film since
- 1:05:46God's all the Final Wars. Yeah, so the ones that the Japanese made
- 1:05:51is the Japanese Godzilla came out, Yeah, Gareth Edwards. Godzilla just came
- 1:05:57out the year before, and the Japanese were all like, if this was
- 1:06:00actually really good, they did a good job, you know, Hey,
- 1:06:03hey we can't let that, yeah we Hey, hold up a second,
- 1:06:09We're the ones who made this ship in the first place. We got to
- 1:06:11show them how it's done. And then they made Shin Godzilla. And the
- 1:06:15thing is Shin Gonzilla was popular and it was actually one of their more more
- 1:06:18successful films. It's just that it just wasn't meeting their expect It didn't really
- 1:06:25meet their expectations. But the whole thing that they had planned for Shin Godzilla,
- 1:06:31they scrapped it and I upset, but they wanted to come back to
- 1:06:39it because they were like, well, wait, we have like let's just
- 1:06:41like see where what legendary is gonna do, because you know, the first
- 1:06:46Godzilla came out and it was it was really popular, got a lot of
- 1:06:53people interested. I mean, there was only two complaints about that movie that
- 1:06:57I had, and that was really Godzilla's atomic breath. His atomic breath was
- 1:07:02like definitely more Gareth Edwards was more faithful to the show a series. It
- 1:07:10was just like the movies like from fifty four to mid seventies, so it
- 1:07:15actually looked like a stream of fire. And his feet that was the other
- 1:07:20thing. He's a thick Yeah, these little stubby feet, the little he's
- 1:07:28still cute. They were tree stumps they weren't stubby little feats that were just
- 1:07:34stumps. Anyway. Yeah, I thought about it and I wrote, and
- 1:07:43you know, whole physiology thing, like physiology mutation thing makes the animal No
- 1:07:51huh when you really look at it. I've wanted again, don't look into
- 1:07:56the signs of Godzilla. The American or the Japanese makes no sense because I
- 1:07:59watched the whole big on someone dissecting. Would Godzilla and the legendary Godzilla make
- 1:08:02sense with the with Earth's gravity and how the have gravity and the Earth is
- 1:08:09Would Godzilla make sense with his body biologically? Would it? Could that thing
- 1:08:14exist? No? No, it could not. None of the titans technically
- 1:08:17an animal, and an animal could technically get to his size, but only
- 1:08:23in the ocean because in the ocean there's no limit to how big an animal
- 1:08:28can grow. Well, the way his body is, he cave in on
- 1:08:30itself under his own body weight. Yeah he was, Yeah if he was
- 1:08:36a land animal. But it's a movie. Who cares, don't look too
- 1:08:41far into it, don't hurt yourself. Yeah, but whatever, I got
- 1:08:44over it. His like, even though I still look at his stubby feet
- 1:08:47and I'm like, he's not getting stubby feet anymore. He evolved, Well
- 1:08:51he's skinny. He is skinady. They're not stubby, they're more difined.
- 1:08:58Now he's he got skinny, Okay, I mean I mean the pink one.
- 1:09:05Yeah, he's more limber this new evolution, and the whole pink vibe
- 1:09:13is that is the light spectrum. So that's why they change the color to
- 1:09:16like a magenta or a pink. It's because it's the next line in like
- 1:09:20the like. There's a whole science approach of why they changed his color scheme
- 1:09:25to more of a magenta pink than the blue. Yeah, there's a whole
- 1:09:30science behind it. It's fun. Look it up. It's great. There
- 1:09:33might be a link in the description. I might get spicy and put a
- 1:09:35ligan the description distory so everyone can catch up on that. Because by the
- 1:09:41time this gets really actually, when this gets released, it'll be like the
- 1:09:45week after Godzilla versus Kong New Empire comes out. Oh okay, because this
- 1:09:51episode won't get released on the on April fourth. Yes, I know,
- 1:09:56I'm hoping to get free tickets for my birthday. Hopefully you better get me.
- 1:10:02Yes, who do you think huh? Who do you think? I'm
- 1:10:08gonna have go with me. I want to do it on the twenty ninth
- 1:10:12and have with me. Yeah, which he's gonna go too. But so
- 1:10:15are you the fuck? Okay, do you really think I'm not gonna take
- 1:10:19you with me? What? How dare you? How dare you? Of
- 1:10:29course you're gonna get a free ticket? Okay, you better. Yeah,
- 1:10:36it's your birthday. Oh my god, it's my special day. Well not
- 1:10:44really my special days on a Thursday, but still, but that's what I
- 1:10:46want to do for my birthdays. Godzilla the new Godzilla film. So yes,
- 1:10:49of course you're gonna go. You're gonna get a free ticket. If
- 1:10:53I have to fight somebody, you're gonna get a free ticket. The fuck.
- 1:10:57You better fight dirty too, dirty. I only fight dirty, never
- 1:11:02fight fair. Do you think Godzilla fight's fair? No? Mm hmmm mm
- 1:11:10hmmm mm hmmm. On that note, yeah, anyway, uh So,
- 1:11:17if you want to get really into watching it, like there are over thirty
- 1:11:21films in the entire franchise, including American movies, Yeah you want to.
- 1:11:28If you want to like go chronologically like with the Japanese ones, definitely start
- 1:11:31out with Godzilla and then go from there. If you if you go on
- 1:11:35Amazon right now. They have this huge collector set of the of the show
- 1:11:40A series. I have it, his boyfriend has it. It's it's great.
- 1:11:45It's this big, it's this big old booklet. I have it on
- 1:11:46my shelf over here. I'm not gonna grab those. Yeah, and you
- 1:11:53can watch most of them on either Prime Video to be MAXX. Honest,
- 1:12:00I think it's it's a pain in the ass trying to find all the movies
- 1:12:02on like streaming services because they're not all on there. Yeah, But like
- 1:12:08the Japanese movies are like divided into like uh well four era different series eras.
- 1:12:15Like there's the show the Shawa era, which is the series of movies
- 1:12:19from nineteen fifty four to like the mid seventies. There's the Heysay Area era,
- 1:12:26which is my personal favorite because it came out in the eighties and nineties.
- 1:12:30That's where Godzilla is more like he's a big boy and he's like he's
- 1:12:34not portrayed as as this anti hero, but he's he's viewed as like this
- 1:12:39existential threat and I love him all right. That's where like in that series
- 1:12:45introduced like his like some of his most powerful enemies, like King Gidora was
- 1:12:50a rich what came out in the show a series originally, but that he
- 1:12:56was like the only Okay, so it was King Gidora, Rodan Mathra,
- 1:13:00and Mega Godzilla. Those four are the ones that survived every era including them
- 1:13:05that have shown up in every era, include including the American version. In
- 1:13:10the American ones, they're the most well known ones. Yeah, they're the
- 1:13:15most well known, and they're the most popular. That's why. That's pretty
- 1:13:19much why King of the Monsters was made legendary pictures. King of the Monsters
- 1:13:24was made because they had gotten the rights, uh for those three, for
- 1:13:28those four monsters. Well, but you know, of course from author Getora
- 1:13:31and Rodan came out King of the Monsters. But and then Godzilvers is calling,
- 1:13:36we got Meca Godzilla, and I was just like when when they when
- 1:13:39I realized it was Meca Godzilla, was like, it's fucking Mecha Godzilla.
- 1:13:42They got Meca Godzilla, all right, I want Biolante Space Godzilla and or
- 1:13:50Destroyer because they already used the oxygen Destroyer. Destroyer comes from that, so
- 1:13:57it's like, give us Destroyer. Oh yeah, it's I think he's gonna
- 1:14:01be the final boss Honestly, I don't know about that, but uh,
- 1:14:09if they do, it's probably not gonna be until later. Yeah, if
- 1:14:13they're gonna make destroy they're gonna have to get the rights for Destroyer from Telescope.
- 1:14:17They have. I'm sure they have the rights and majority of the monsters
- 1:14:20already, they just not at this point. It's pretty much just like it's
- 1:14:29pretty much just Scudzil at this point in Mathra I think is apparently Mathers gonna
- 1:14:32come out in the next movie. I know some things. I can't say
- 1:14:40anything because I'm not gonna give you any spoilers. I know things, I
- 1:14:45know things. M hmm. But no, I'm sure they have the rights
- 1:14:50and majority of the monsters that they want, but they have a story they
- 1:14:54want to tell with a particular set of monsters, even though I'm like,
- 1:14:57girl, give us by all Lante please, because by alone is I just
- 1:15:03want them to do something that they haven't done since the Show A series.
- 1:15:06I mean they in the Millennium series, which the Millennium Series was the the
- 1:15:13third was Third Era. But that's space monsters, alien monsters like the Show
- 1:15:18A series like he had monsters like King Gidora, Mega Godzilla was technically a
- 1:15:24space monster because he was made by aliens. He was originally made by aliens.
- 1:15:30And then there was Guy Gan, there was Megalon. Doesn't really count
- 1:15:34because he came from underground, but yeah, kind of counting. Yeah.
- 1:15:39But and then of course Space Godzilla from the Heyse series and mean King Gidora
- 1:15:45wasn't a space monster anymore. He was he was created on Earth like by
- 1:15:51people from the future. And was there another space monster, No, it
- 1:15:58was just it's just Space Godzilla. And then the Millennium series. Uh,
- 1:16:03they kind of did something with space monsters, but that was just in Final
- 1:16:09Wars because we got monsters and Kaiser Godora. Yeah, but that was it
- 1:16:15everything. All the other monsters were completely terrestrial. They came from this world.
- 1:16:20And then of course we got then of course we got the current era
- 1:16:25of Godzilla and Japan. That's the what do they call it? What's the
- 1:16:30name of the era currently for Godzilla Japan? Yeah, I think it's just
- 1:16:34called Japanese verse. I don't know. I think it's called the it's like
- 1:16:40R E I W A something. I'm not let me look it up.
- 1:16:45Yes, yeah, that's the one with Yeah, that's the one with like
- 1:16:49godzill Planet, the animated monsters Godzilla, or the anime Godzilla. Yes,
- 1:16:57I forgot about the I forgot the animated movies Planet Godzilla, singular Point Godzilla,
- 1:17:01which I'm like I could with shitt Godzilla. The fact they didn't do
- 1:17:08the Earth Earth Godzilla, the fact that they didn't do the whole cosmic ooh,
- 1:17:13he's a being from another dimension or or it's like some otherworldly Eldridge horror.
- 1:17:18They kind of use that plot for a lot of other stuff, not
- 1:17:21necessarily for like the Earth Godzilla, the plant Monster, but more so for
- 1:17:27like the singular point Godzilla, because dimentional being creature thing something like that.
- 1:17:36He was like a he was like supposed to be a living singularity from like
- 1:17:43yeah, the form he saw was only like it's like basically a toenail of
- 1:17:47the actual creature. So I'm like, y'all took those ideas and you repurposed
- 1:17:54it. I see. Singular point was if you take it as it is,
- 1:18:00it was okay. It was a good. It was good. It
- 1:18:01was entertaining. That was weird in a good way. Yeah it was.
- 1:18:05But like for me, I'm just like it was like they took all his
- 1:18:09original the monsters he's fought before, mainly from the show A series, and
- 1:18:15they mixed them together into like like monsters like with other monsters. So you
- 1:18:19had like these because there's a giant, there's a praying man, this monster
- 1:18:25from the show A series, and then there's Megalon, who's this who's basically
- 1:18:30a drill beetle. Yeah, and it mixed those two together created a bunch
- 1:18:33of like, yeah, they made like a bunch of like Chimaro type mixed
- 1:18:38match of pieces of monsters. Well it's like yeah, like you were saying,
- 1:18:42like different monsters from different eras of kind of mixing together. Yeah.
- 1:18:45And then there was uh, like Manda, there was this a giant sea
- 1:18:50serpent. God's all technically never fought Manda one on one at least, like
- 1:18:55if you watch the Trial Monsters, Manda was in that. One man got
- 1:19:00his own standalone film, but he wasn't really the center point of the film.
- 1:19:05If you want to watch it, it's called The Atragon. It's actually
- 1:19:09really it's a it's a really cool movie. It's like this flying It's like
- 1:19:13the Atragon is this flying ship. It's a warship that can fly. It
- 1:19:17has a big drill in the front so it can drill underground, and it's
- 1:19:20also a submarine, so it's like an all terrain ship. It's actually pretty
- 1:19:26cool. But like they were fate, they were like dealing had it.
- 1:19:30They had to deal with this under It's kind of like this Atlantis like civilization,
- 1:19:34but it was like called the Mu Empire, and a Manda was like
- 1:19:40a guardian spirit beast. Yeah, and they that's where Amanda originally appeared in.
- 1:19:47But he never actually had any role in the Godzilla verse, any of
- 1:19:51the Godzilla verses. So but they gave him a bigger role in Singer of
- 1:19:58a Point. And then of course Godzilla and his three and it's like three
- 1:20:01different forms. He started off as basically Titanosaurus because that sea monster version of
- 1:20:06himself was just Titanosaurus, but more of like a sea monster instead of like
- 1:20:11a dinosaur. And then you got uh Gorosaurus, which is another like Tyrannosaurus
- 1:20:19type monster that never actually appeared in any of the Godzilla movies except for Destroyal
- 1:20:27Monsters. And then of course Godzilla himself. Yeah, but I liked when
- 1:20:32he was in his like the when he was in his second form, which
- 1:20:35was the Gorosaurus form. His atomic breath was those rings, which was which
- 1:20:42was what? Which was what? Milla Manila or Godzilla Jr. Got I
- 1:20:48hate his I hate his name. It's like it's either Milla Manila or just
- 1:20:54Godzilla Jr. I'm first calling him Godzilla Junior because it's easier, because it's
- 1:20:58easier than saying those another fucking name. Yeah, but it's just because he
- 1:21:01used to so Gotzilla Junior. When he would shoot his atomic breath, it
- 1:21:04wasn't like a stream of fire. It was just this little ring, like
- 1:21:08a little ring. Yeah, didn't do shit, No, sure as hell
- 1:21:14did not. But I mean, in singular point, it was that it
- 1:21:17was dangerous. But then of course he evolved into his final form and then
- 1:21:20that was where he got his stream. But yeah, So the ray Wa
- 1:21:25series is the new series which includes his animated films and the Does it include
- 1:21:31the Monster verse or no? No, it does not. Monster versus the
- 1:21:35Toll is a totally different thing outside of Japan because then it includes the animated
- 1:21:41stuff as well as Shin and Minus one. It's thrown in that too.
- 1:21:45Currently from what I can from what I've read one, what I hope they
- 1:21:56make another collector set, just like the show on one that I bought,
- 1:21:59or just all of the hate it's all the Haysey series on Blu Ray and
- 1:22:02this big old booklet. I mean, there's not that many. There's not
- 1:22:05as many movies in the Heysei series as there was in the show A series.
- 1:22:11But that would be great, That would be great. Yeah, give
- 1:22:16us more, Give us more. Godzilla Minus one was so good. It's
- 1:22:20like the most popular Godzilla movie in the history of Godzilla movies, or at
- 1:22:24least from the Japanese, from the Japanese Japanese movies. If if anyone from
- 1:22:30the Japanese Godzilla team for Godzilla mis wins listening, if you don't fall through,
- 1:22:36you're weird, like hinting at the next sequel of like the whole mark
- 1:22:44that people start popping up on at least the one person that you assume other
- 1:22:47people have it too, and then the flesh melding into other things. If
- 1:22:51you don't fall through with that, because let me tell you something, well,
- 1:22:56look right in the camera at this. If you don't fall through on
- 1:22:58the ouki spooky not necessarily cosmic word like the Eldridge weird, the weirdness because
- 1:23:03elevator is another word for weird. It doesn't necessarily have to be in cosmic
- 1:23:08core, but even though it's associated with that, the weirdness of it all,
- 1:23:11and make it really fucking weirdness, lean into it. I don't want
- 1:23:14it. You put don't puss out, don't puts it on the eldridge and
- 1:23:16the weird of it all, because that's weird and I and that's what intrigued.
- 1:23:21I mean, I love my one, but at the end, I
- 1:23:24was like, oh, okay, I'm here, I'm fully here now I
- 1:23:27was already here, but now I'm now. I'm here here like because sh
- 1:23:31it was weird, I want no more. So don't put that on me.
- 1:23:35Lean into the weird, please, I don't get my shin Godzilla sequels.
- 1:23:42I want the weird to completely contradict what he's just saying. I don't
- 1:23:46care what you do. Just give me more. I want more. I
- 1:23:49mean as all as good, but like I want the weird if you make
- 1:23:56more animation, like animated stuff, like, let's let's do it. Yeah.
- 1:24:02Anyway, my favorite, my favorite, he we fevere, he feverite.
- 1:24:15Anyway, enough of me with my little with my little Godzilla action figures
- 1:24:19and then like long and anyway, Yeah, the Big Eight. Anyway,
- 1:24:28So that was go and Godzilla raise again. Yeah, thank y'all for listening
- 1:24:36in. Yeah, and tune in next week. Wait, what did you
- 1:24:40want to do next week? I don't know. I have to figure it
- 1:24:42out. I don't know what I want to do next week. We'll decide
- 1:24:46figure it out. Fuck it, No decided. Right now, we're doing
- 1:24:50book one of this one fantasy series that I've been reading. Just fuck it.
- 1:24:59We're gonna go ahead and just reviewing them. I have not finished the
- 1:25:01series yet because there's a lot, but we're gonna ahead and do book one
- 1:25:04because it has already been adapted into a TV show by now, am I
- 1:25:09gonna watch it? Now? I gotta watch that. You better watch it.
- 1:25:12It's only there's only eight episodes. You can do it. Okay,
- 1:25:14I can watch it. I can watch it. Yeah. Anyway, we're
- 1:25:18gonna be reviewing book one and season one of The Wheel of Time, yeah,
- 1:25:26by Robert Jordan. Now, they don't since it's a TV show,
- 1:25:30they don't give you the actual name of the of They don't give a specific
- 1:25:34name for each book. But it's not just Wheel of Time. Book one,
- 1:25:38two, and three, one of the Wheel of Time is called The
- 1:25:41Eye of the World. Yeah, okay, now I will have to watch
- 1:25:48that show because I am going to be I'm not reading those books. I'm
- 1:25:54just not. I can't not no, not right now. On average,
- 1:25:58the books, okay, for like for those like really advanced readers, it's
- 1:26:00not like a very long book. But if you're like in just an average
- 1:26:04reader like me, the average page length is a thousand pages. And so
- 1:26:13far I'm on book six out of fourteen. Yeah, out of fourteen books.
- 1:26:18How is book six? You Are you halfway through yet? No,
- 1:26:24I'm about forty of the way through, between thirty five and of the way
- 1:26:29through, so I'm getting there. I just started reading it, Like when
- 1:26:34did I start reading it? Sometime last week last week something like that,
- 1:26:39Monday, Tuesday. Yeah, so far, Book five was my favorite,
- 1:26:44just mainly because one of the one of the bad guys, like, yeah,
- 1:26:47she got taken she got taken out, but she went down kicking and
- 1:26:50screaming and she made a scene and it was hilarious. Yeah. So yeah,
- 1:26:57we'll do that next week for the Wheel of Time. Yay, so
- 1:27:01catch us then until then, bye bye.
