Latest / Millennial Mustard Seed / * Bonus* Carly Speaks - Open Letter to the System's of Silence
Transcript
- 0:31None. An open letter to a system of
- 0:35silence. You nailed truth in a coffin for
- 0:39circumstantial peace, wrapped it in thin plastic grave clothes
- 0:44and let the stench of rot drift. It was a counterfeit funeral
- 0:49that keeps abuse alive, keeps victims quiet to the perishing
- 0:54comfortable and the system intact.
- 0:58It wasn't your place. God will deal with it.
- 1:02Confrontation is unkind, unwise, unchristian.
- 1:08But let's call some things out for what they really are.
- 1:12A commitment to a bloodline of abusers, A choice to avoid the
- 1:18cost of truth. A calculated silence to preserve
- 1:22the familiar. A relationship with a
- 1:25manipulator is better than solidarity with the crushed.
- 1:29A seat at the table of evil inheritance and a drink from the
- 1:34cup of compliance at the fake curated performance driven table
- 1:40was safer than flipping the damn thing over like Jesus would have
- 1:43done. Diplomacy over honesty.
- 1:48I once excused it too. I told myself quiet support was
- 1:53enough. That the private acknowledgments
- 1:57had substance enough to help me carry the load.
- 2:00But I've come to learn that a silent witness to the truth is
- 2:05no witness at all. Everyone knows first hand who
- 2:09this is. It predates me.
- 2:12It's the voice of a pathology more insidious than cancer that
- 2:17at least dies with the body. This is a curse upon which
- 2:24generations cut their teeth. The sour grapes of coercion and
- 2:29passive nods to false humility, clapping for borrowed
- 2:33spirituality and the relentless pretending has become the
- 2:38noxious gas of telling the truth in secret while standing
- 2:42publicly with the lie. I thought the bond we had was
- 2:47deep enough to hold the truth. But it was only deep enough to
- 2:52hold silence, watching someone bleed while claiming, in a
- 2:57sense, for not wielding the knife, saying nothing while he
- 3:01cleaned off the blade. You were complicit in the
- 3:04violence. Silence is choosing the side, a
- 3:10carefully curated piece that required my cooperation.
- 3:14Today, I know this truth is not safe.
- 3:21Love is not passive, and compassion is not enablement.
- 3:25And I am not pretending anymore. I won't be part of hush culture.
- 3:34I won't protect social circles or leadership optics.
- 3:38I won't smile through discomfort or sanitize my story to make
- 3:42anyone feel better about me. I am not bitter.
- 3:50I'm not even angry. I'm living a very uncomfortable
- 3:55truth and the spell is broken. So if loyalty aligns with the
- 4:02lie, keep it. If peace demands my silence, I
- 4:06revoke it. If comfort demands my
- 4:10compliance, I refuse it. Because the culture that chose
- 4:14to stay quiet and pacified my pain with the wink of a knowing
- 4:19eye was never holy. Duplicity never is.
- 4:25And I am done pretending that it was.
