Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome back to Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered. I can't believe
- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm saying this, Rossi, but to the people of Wisconsin
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Milwaukee, your team just won the National League pennant,
- 0:13Speaker 1: and you are four wins away from your first World
- 0:17Speaker 1: Series ever. I hope they're enjoying that up north, the
- 0:21Speaker 1: team from the north, as we used to call them
- 0:23Speaker 1: down in Chicago. But man, Rossi, did they just... play
- 0:30Speaker 1: a complete series right there. I mean, top to bottom,
- 0:34Speaker 1: the entire roster, everyone contributing. Jake Bauer is going off.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Great story. Pitching, starting pitching, the relievers, you know, it's
- 0:44Speaker 1: just from top to bottom, this team just came out
- 0:47Speaker 1: with a chip on their shoulder. So we got swept
- 0:50Speaker 1: last year by you guys. We're going to come in
- 0:52Speaker 1: this year. No one, not one person. If you bet
- 0:56Speaker 1: on this series and you said the Brewers are going
- 0:58Speaker 1: to sweep, you are the king of gambling, right?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Just an incredible series, and a big congratulations to the
- 1:06Speaker 1: Milwaukee Brewers. Again, I can't believe I'm saying this, but
- 1:09Speaker 1: I hope they're enjoying this, and I hope the fans
- 1:11Speaker 1: are enjoying this.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Man, we got another great game tonight. I mean, golly,
- 1:16Speaker 2: that was back and forth. It's amazing to me that
- 1:19Speaker 2: they came back all four games from being down, and
- 1:22Speaker 2: that's what they've done all year. That's who they are.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that's who they are. They did it all year.
- 1:25Speaker 2: They had a better record when they fell behind than
- 1:28Speaker 2: they did when they took the lead throughout the season.
- 1:30Speaker 2: That's just crazy. But you're talking about a complete team, man. Like,
- 1:34Speaker 2: it was a different guy. It felt like every game.
- 1:37Speaker 2: The leadoff home run from Churrio, the Bryce Terang, Oppo
- 1:41Speaker 2: home run, four hits and five walks in the series.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Contreras, three hits, three RBIs. Bowers, obviously.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Mitchell, that home run in games three and four. Like,
- 1:51Speaker 2: they're just up and down the Hamilton, right? Like just
- 1:54Speaker 2: up and.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Down the lineup. They, the bats don't waver.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Stealing bait.
- 2:00Speaker 2: That's right. Running, running down, you know, a lot of guys,
- 2:04Speaker 2: I'm glad you brought that up. Cause a lot of teams,
- 2:06Speaker 2: you know, I felt this way as a manager, when
- 2:09Speaker 2: you're down, they were down four to two. And I
- 2:12Speaker 2: think South Fralick got on and then we're on a
- 2:14Speaker 2: walk and then stole a base. And the next thing
- 2:16Speaker 2: you know, base hit. Now he scores like, most guys
- 2:19Speaker 2: are down. They're like, Oh, we're going to wait. We
- 2:21Speaker 2: don't want to take the risk of getting thrown out. Like, no,
- 2:23Speaker 2: they're still putting pressure on you. Even when they're down,
- 2:25Speaker 2: we're going to get one in the six and then
- 2:28Speaker 2: we'll get another one in the seventh. You know, they,
- 2:30Speaker 2: they don't just start playing for the home run when
- 2:32Speaker 2: they get down, they continue to play their brand of baseball.
- 2:34Speaker 3: And I think that's why there's so good.
- 2:37Speaker 2: So consistently is because they continue to play their game
- 2:40Speaker 2: up and down the, up and down the nine innings,
- 2:43Speaker 2: you know.
- 2:44Speaker 1: No doubt, bro. And how about Shohei? You know, we
- 2:48Speaker 1: talked about it a couple days ago. He's in the media.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He's talking about his struggles. Has a good game yesterday.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Hits the big three-run homer to put them up, right?
- 2:55Speaker 1: And that was like, oh, shit.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Like, that's the momentum, right?
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I was like, oh, guy, don't wake up the giant.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Don't wake up the sleeping giant.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yep.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And that, like, the script was perfect, right? You got
- 3:10Speaker 1: Scooble tomorrow. You have Yamamoto. You know, you got the
- 3:13Speaker 1: pitching to do it. Like, it's the Dodgers. They can
- 3:15Speaker 1: win four in a row very easily, right? They're down
- 3:18Speaker 1: 4-0 the Brewers, right? And they just chip away, bro.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Jake Bowers, good at bat.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Double.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Puts it within two. They just chip away. And then
- 3:30Speaker 1: Gary Mitchell eventually hits the home run off a lefty
- 3:33Speaker 1: back-to-back days. I think he has, what, a couple home runs,
- 3:37Speaker 1: a handful of home runs off lefties in his career.
- 3:40Speaker 1: He hits back-to-back nights with home runs. So just a
- 3:43Speaker 1: complete series. Guys playing really well all around. I mean,
- 3:49Speaker 1: what more can you say about this? The Brewers were
- 3:52Speaker 1: the better team. Pat Murphy, yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Pat Murphy had a bullpen game, basically, opening with an opener,
- 4:01Speaker 2: and then going to May, and then the bullpen from there,
- 4:05Speaker 2: and it would have been so easy to punt on
- 4:07Speaker 2: that game with a 3-0 lead, right? Or, like, kind
- 4:09Speaker 2: of bring in, you know, not that Sensatella isn't a dude,
- 4:13Speaker 2: but he's one of their other dudes, and the fact...
- 4:16Speaker 2: They started chipping away, and then he brings in JoJo,
- 4:20Speaker 2: who was nasty, and then Ashby.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Ashby's stuff is filthy, dude.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I know we've known that, and I remember him as
- 4:27Speaker 2: a starter when I was managing, and you're like, he
- 4:30Speaker 2: didn't throw as many strikes as he does now, but dang, man,
- 4:33Speaker 2: are they freaking good. Shout out to Tyler Glass now,
- 4:36Speaker 2: started off on fire, threw really well, three perfect innings,
- 4:41Speaker 2: and then got in a little trouble there in the fourth,
- 4:42Speaker 2: and Jake Bowers, obviously with that big double, but I
- 4:45Speaker 2: thought he had nasty stuff tonight too.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Bro, we talked about yesterday our ball bag question of
- 4:52Speaker 1: the day was about players who we've played with that
- 4:54Speaker 1: we don't think fully hit that potential. And I was
- 4:57Speaker 1: thinking about today watching Tyler Glass now. I want to
- 5:00Speaker 1: see him healthy. His mound presence, bro, he might be
- 5:06Speaker 1: the biggest mound presence there. He's a big guy. That presence,
- 5:11Speaker 1: his stuff, it's coming at you. It's a lot of levers.
- 5:15Speaker 1: He's 6'8, got the hair. I want to see him
- 5:20Speaker 1: healthy for four or five years and just see the
- 5:24Speaker 1: dominant run that he can go on because he's one
- 5:26Speaker 1: of those guys, man, when he's on the mound, it's
- 5:29Speaker 1: must-watch television.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah. What now for the Dodgers? The Brewers were going
- 5:35Speaker 2: to give you so much love all the way through
- 5:37Speaker 2: this whole thing, and congratulations, as you said, to all
- 5:40Speaker 2: the people up in Milwaukee and all the Brewers fans
- 5:42Speaker 2: around the country.
- 5:43Speaker 3: But what about the Dodgers?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Like, do you think like it looked like, I mean,
- 5:49Speaker 2: we talked about this a little bit and you try
- 5:51Speaker 2: to listen to one of the greatest Derek Jeter talk
- 5:53Speaker 2: about that third championship being so hard and how tired
- 5:55Speaker 2: you are in that grind. You know, do you think
- 5:58Speaker 2: some of that had to have set in for them?
- 6:00Speaker 2: Cause they, they, I don't know that they looked old.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Like I think everybody will start saying, calling the old card.
- 6:05Speaker 2: You know, you got Freddie Freeman.
- 6:06Speaker 3: He's 36 months. He's 35. It's now 33.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Mookie Betts is 33. You know, it started to show
- 6:14Speaker 2: how he started. Like, it's not time to call them old,
- 6:17Speaker 2: is it?
- 6:18Speaker 1: No, they're experienced. That's what they are. Bro, we have
- 6:21Speaker 1: never seen in the social media era until the Dodgers
- 6:26Speaker 1: did it, a back-to-back World Series champion. And I say
- 6:29Speaker 1: the social media era because from my own experience, when
- 6:32Speaker 1: we won in 2016, guys got famous really fast. Like,
- 6:38Speaker 1: really fast.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Because of social media and
- 6:42Speaker 1: because you're getting pulled in a thousand different directions, you're
- 6:45Speaker 1: all over, it kind of inflates everyone's head, whether you
- 6:50Speaker 1: can admit it or not. So I was always a
- 6:53Speaker 1: big believer it's going to be really hard to see
- 6:55Speaker 1: back-to-back champs with the social media era because of that, right?
- 6:59Speaker 1: You just get pulled in so many different directions, et cetera,
- 7:03Speaker 1: et cetera. So the fact that the Dodgers went back-to-back,
- 7:07Speaker 1: And they were in a position to go to the
- 7:09Speaker 1: World Series again. Obviously, them getting swept. But this is,
- 7:13Speaker 1: I mean, what they've done the last decade and a half,
- 7:20Speaker 1: 15 years, honestly. Their run that they've been on. Dave Roberts,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you know, that whole organization. They are a gold standard
- 7:29Speaker 1: organization before they started signing everyone. Yeah, they already are.
- 7:33Speaker 2: So.
- 7:34Speaker 1: No, do I think that this dynasty is over? No,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I think they'll be right back next year. They'll probably be,
- 7:40Speaker 1: you know, the top of the favorites to win the
- 7:42Speaker 1: World Series because they're going to reload with– they'll probably
- 7:44Speaker 1: re-sign Scooble now because they're pissed off that they didn't win.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Yeah, for sure. This team– but, again,
- 7:53Speaker 1: it's like you just go back to how much it
- 7:57Speaker 1: takes to win, Rossi.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:59Speaker 1: We know how much it takes to win. And that
- 8:01Speaker 1: mental grind, that mental fortitude, like it takes every ounce
- 8:07Speaker 1: of your being. And what the Milwaukee Brewers are doing
- 8:10Speaker 1: right now and everything they're saying, that's it. That's the winning.
- 8:13Speaker 1: They're saying everything. And it seems genuine. It seems like, look,
- 8:17Speaker 1: it's everyone on this team. Yelich after the game, which
- 8:20Speaker 1: congratulations to Christian Yelich. He's grinded on the Brewers for
- 8:23Speaker 1: nine years. He was at the Marlins before that. He's
- 8:26Speaker 1: the captain saying, you know, We came together before the
- 8:31Speaker 1: postseason and said, look, we have to play our brand
- 8:34Speaker 1: of baseball. We have to have each other's backs. We
- 8:36Speaker 1: have to do things our way. We don't need to
- 8:37Speaker 1: do anything else except be ourselves. And they did that,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and it showed.
- 8:41Speaker 3: It's so hard to win. I'm glad you said that.
- 8:43Speaker 2: And we've got three teams still playing baseball this year
- 8:49Speaker 2: with some low salaries.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Like, they don't even add up.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Combined, all three of these teams don't add up to
- 8:55Speaker 2: what the Dodgers are spending like What a wild turn
- 8:58Speaker 2: of events of all the talk that kind of led
- 9:01Speaker 2: up through this, you know, season and during the season and.
- 9:05Speaker 3: All this stuff.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And now, like, the best baseball teams are still playing baseball,
- 9:11Speaker 2: one in the World Series and two that have a
- 9:13Speaker 2: chance to get there.
- 9:14Speaker 3: But what a crazy, crazy time.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. I'll tell you what, Rossi. Everything
- 9:23Speaker 1: in baseball is market timing, right? If you're a free
- 9:27Speaker 1: agent and you have a big... If you're about to
- 9:28Speaker 1: be an impending free agent and you have a massive year,
- 9:31Speaker 1: you're going to get paid, right? If you're an impending
- 9:34Speaker 1: free agent and you have a down year, you might
- 9:36Speaker 1: have to take a lesser contract to reset your value,
- 9:38Speaker 1: maybe with a couple of opt-outs, right? Going into arbitration, it's,
- 9:42Speaker 1: what have you done for me lately? Well, going into
- 9:44Speaker 1: this CBA, Rossi, the owners really are.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Market timing is not on their side now. You know
- 9:53Speaker 1: what I mean? Like, bro, Cleveland... is 30th in payroll, last.
- 9:59Speaker 1: The Rays are 28th in payroll. And the Brewers, if
- 10:03Speaker 1: it really, if you take Christian Yelich out of there, like,
- 10:06Speaker 1: where are they at? They're bottom tier, too. What are they,
- 10:09Speaker 1: 19th in payroll? They're probably down to, like, the 25th
- 10:12Speaker 1: without Christian Yelich is big contract. So, the market timing
- 10:17Speaker 1: on all of this for them, and And on top
- 10:19Speaker 1: of that, the league and the networks, now that I'm
- 10:24Speaker 1: a network television analyst, they don't want this World Series.
- 10:29Speaker 1: It's amazing for the game. The game is as competitive
- 10:31Speaker 1: as it can be. But you're telling me you want
- 10:34Speaker 1: the Brewers and the Rays or the Guardians in the
- 10:38Speaker 1: World Series over the Dodgers and another big market team?
- 10:41Speaker 1: So we want to come up with this salary cap
- 10:43Speaker 1: that they're talking about and all this stuff? It's just
- 10:44Speaker 1: going to be an absolute... come this offseason with the
- 10:48Speaker 1: lockout impending.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I love where your head's at, bro. I love where
- 10:51Speaker 2: your head's at. And one more shout-out, Pat Murphy, what
- 10:55Speaker 2: he's done with the Milwaukee Brewers and that group, man.
- 10:58Speaker 2: It just feels like he pulls every lever possible in
- 11:04Speaker 2: every right moment. You know, sticking with, you know, he
- 11:06Speaker 2: didn't have to use McGill, kind of an ace in
- 11:07Speaker 2: the hole there in case it goes extras or have
- 11:10Speaker 2: him fresh for tomorrow. So congratulations to him. That organization,
- 11:16Speaker 2: They're doing it right over there, man. They've been good
- 11:17Speaker 2: for a really long time, and I love that they're
- 11:20Speaker 2: finally right at the tippy top of the mountain. Just
- 11:23Speaker 2: got to get that last four wins.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's almost like, and we're going to get on.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Did I just say tippy top? The tippy top of
- 11:31Speaker 1: the mountain. Yeah, you're nervous, probably.
- 11:33Speaker 3: What is that?
- 11:34Speaker 1: We're going to get to the Raising Guardians here, but
- 11:37Speaker 1: the Guardians are up on a race 2-1, right?
- 11:40Speaker 2: Yep.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And for the Brewers now, right, It's like, okay, they
- 11:45Speaker 1: just slayed the giant. Don't exhale. You know?
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Did the Rays exhale by sweeping the Yankees?
- 11:53Speaker 3: That's what I was talking about yesterday, though, is, like,
- 11:56Speaker 3: you don't want too many days off.
- 11:58Speaker 2: You know? Like, you're fixing to have a lot of
- 12:00Speaker 2: days off, and I think this Cleveland series is going
- 12:02Speaker 2: to go back and forth. Cleveland has been impressive, but
- 12:05Speaker 2: you know what we forgot? We almost forgot our playa,
- 12:08Speaker 2: our playa of the week.
- 12:12Speaker 3: We're talking brew crew.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Well, we got to get, I'm saying, we're not moving
- 12:16Speaker 1: on without shouting out Jake Bowers and everything he was
- 12:20Speaker 1: to this team and this series and even this year.
- 12:23Speaker 1: And he is our Corona player, player of the week.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yeah, what an absolute stud. I mean, the at-bat, he
- 12:33Speaker 2: had multiple at-bats, the big double.
- 12:37Speaker 3: This guy.
- 12:38Speaker 1: 11-pitch at-bat. 11-pitch at-bat.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Yeah, lefties.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Game one, good game.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Every game.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Every game.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and you get up now, and it's just such
- 12:45Speaker 3: a presence.
- 12:46Speaker 2: He comes in the game or gets his at-bat and
- 12:48Speaker 2: gets up there, and you're just looking for something good
- 12:51Speaker 2: to happen when you're a fan. You know what it's
- 12:54Speaker 2: like when you're catching that guy or playing against that
- 12:57Speaker 2: guy that was locked in.
- 12:57Speaker 3: It's like, just don't let this guy beat us again.
- 12:59Speaker 3: One night, for a couple days, it was Contreras.
- 13:05Speaker 2: You know, then it's like, oh, Terrain's starting to get
- 13:07Speaker 2: locked in and Churio and like, okay.
- 13:09Speaker 3: And it just keeps going down.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Mitchell.
- 13:11Speaker 2: And then now freaking Jake Bowers just absolutely destroyed these
- 13:15Speaker 2: last three games. And congratulations to him for Corona Playa
- 13:20Speaker 2: of the week.
- 13:22Speaker 1: That's our Corona Playa. You know who, again, last night
- 13:26Speaker 1: I was watching and the Brewers started giving me flashbacks
- 13:29Speaker 1: to playing them and how well they were defensively. And
- 13:33Speaker 1: then today when I, tonight when I saw, Garrett Mitchell
- 13:36Speaker 1: hit that home run, I was like, ooh, that kind
- 13:38Speaker 1: of looked like Daniel Murphy a little bit.
- 13:41Speaker 3: I was like, oh, no! Oh, God.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Can't get him out of my head.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Oh, man. That guy was in a tree.
- 13:49Speaker 2: He's always a good hitter, and then all of a sudden,
- 13:51Speaker 2: it just clicked for him late in September, and he
- 13:54Speaker 2: started hitting for power.
- 13:57Speaker 3: He absolutely just destroyed us.
- 14:00Speaker 1: The fact that, and I know I just touched on this,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and I know you want to stay away from this,
- 14:04Speaker 1: but The fact that these payrolls are in it and
- 14:08Speaker 1: these smaller markets are in the World Series is such
- 14:11Speaker 1: a testament to how competitively balanced our game is right now, right?
- 14:15Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if you're the Dodgers or the Mets.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Mets didn't even make the playoffs, and it's not a
- 14:19Speaker 1: stray at the Mets. Yankees got bounced in the first round.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Phillies got bounced in the first round. Toronto didn't make
- 14:25Speaker 1: the playoffs. These are all the top teams. The Cubs
- 14:27Speaker 1: bounced in two games, right? And then you have these
- 14:30Speaker 1: bottom market teams that are down. Competing with the so-called giants, right? Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 1: So our game is in such a good spot competitively
- 14:41Speaker 1: that an extended lockout or missing an extended amount of time,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I feel like you're just going to lose so much
- 14:48Speaker 1: momentum of everything we've built here in this game the
- 14:52Speaker 1: last five to even eight, ten years. So that's my
- 14:56Speaker 1: last little thing on that.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Well said.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Again, congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers, all the fans up there.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't even know how.
- 15:08Speaker 2: That place is going to be rocking.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I'm excited for that team. I'm excited for Pat Murphy.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Just a lot of respect. Daniel Vogelbach is one of
- 15:16Speaker 1: their hitting coaches. I know what he brings to the
- 15:19Speaker 1: table as a human being. Easy to root for Christian Yelich. Obviously,
- 15:27Speaker 1: hated playing against them when I was with the Cubs, but.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Congrats, Charlie Green. He was around here. He's their bullpen coach.
- 15:35Speaker 2: We were on a team together in the minor leagues.
- 15:37Speaker 2: He's the Brewers bullpen coach, and he lived here in
- 15:41Speaker 2: Tallahassee for a long time. He's since moved, but shout
- 15:44Speaker 2: out to Charlie. Congratulations, brother. There's something about the warm
- 15:48Speaker 2: summer air and a cold corona with lime that makes
- 15:51Speaker 2: the roar of the crowd sound a lot like the
- 15:53Speaker 2: roar of the waves.
- 15:54Speaker 4: That's because this is our playa, and the best seats
- 15:57Speaker 4: are always wherever you're sitting.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Whether it's a weeknight game under the lights or a
- 16:00Speaker 2: Sunday afternoon in the sun, you know baseball isn't about
- 16:03Speaker 2: rushing around. It's about settling in, letting the game come
- 16:07Speaker 2: to you. And nothing pairs better than an ice-cold Corona. Nothing.
- 16:12Speaker 4: So find your seat, your Corona, and your line. Because
- 16:16Speaker 4: real fans know the only thing better than nine innings

- 16:38Speaker 3: What's up, guys?
- 16:39Speaker 2: I need to tell you about this new prediction market
- 16:41Speaker 2: called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade in sports.
- 16:45Speaker 2: In the past, if you wanted action on the game,
- 16:48Speaker 2: you'd put some money in, and if your team was
- 16:50Speaker 2: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 16:52Speaker 2: the trade and take a huge fee. But Polymarket is
- 16:55Speaker 2: a prediction market. It's a stock exchange for sports, buying
- 16:58Speaker 2: in and selling out on your terms. I've tried them all,
- 17:01Speaker 2: and Polymarket is simply the best prediction market. Better than DraftKings, FanDuel, Kalshi,
- 17:07Speaker 2: you name it. They're so confident you'll never go back
- 17:10Speaker 2: to the other guys. They're giving you a free $ 25
- 17:12Speaker 2: on your first trade when you deposit just $ 10. And
- 17:14Speaker 2: now they've launched a new feature, Squads, a group chat
- 17:18Speaker 2: where you can see what everyone is trading. So download
- 17:21Speaker 2: the Polymarket app today and use the code ROSSRIZZO when
- 17:24Speaker 2: you sign up. That's code ROSSRIZZO and get $ 25 free
- 17:29Speaker 2: after you deposit just $ 10.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Rossi, Guardians beating the Rays 3-2 to take a 2-1
- 17:36Speaker 1: series lead in Cleveland. Petey Halpin hits a majestic just
- 17:41Speaker 1: over the wall.
- 17:42Speaker 3: What a bad flip. What a bad flip.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. Utility man
- 17:48Speaker 1: making his hitting eighth, right? Has four home runs in
- 17:52Speaker 1: his career. Only has 200 plate appearances. Stephen Vogt said
- 17:59Speaker 1: after the game he's really become a leader in that clubhouse.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Guys gravitate towards him, which is awesome to hear. So
- 18:05Speaker 1: what a big moment for him. But Gavin Williams shoved
- 18:08Speaker 1: five innings, pulled out their 70 pitches. They were just
- 18:12Speaker 1: being cautious with him. That's what I guess Vogt said.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Most strikeouts in the first five career postseason starts of
- 18:19Speaker 1: all time. This lists Sandy Kovacs, Bob Gibson, Gavin Williams.
- 18:24Speaker 1: That's pretty good. It's a pretty good company in there, Mr.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Williams. They just started getting on those lists when they
- 18:28Speaker 2: started throwing out all these Hall of Famers. That was,
- 18:32Speaker 2: I mean, his stuff, we've talked about how nasty his
- 18:35Speaker 2: stuff is.
- 18:35Speaker 3: I just love why he attacks.
- 18:37Speaker 2: The zone and that sweeper, man, it just feels like
- 18:39Speaker 2: it disappears under those lefties, bats in the righties. It
- 18:42Speaker 2: never stays in the zone for those guys to hit it.
- 18:43Speaker 2: It's just, I mean, he's coming right at you. I
- 18:45Speaker 2: tell my mound presence, he's a big man.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I mean, bro, I mean, look, Cleveland was rocking. We
- 18:52Speaker 1: played there. Travis Kelsey's tweet, or On his Instagram story,
- 18:56Speaker 1: shouting out Petey for that big home run. They're up 2-1, bro,
- 18:59Speaker 1: on the Rays. Best team in the American League. Rays
- 19:03Speaker 1: sweep the Yankees, right? They're, like I said, did they
- 19:07Speaker 1: exhale a little bit? I don't think they did. This
- 19:10Speaker 1: is going to be a good fought series, but you
- 19:12Speaker 1: would think that the Rays would come in here just
- 19:14Speaker 1: rolling like they were. But, bro, Caminero, 2-11 in this series. Aranda,
- 19:19Speaker 1: 0-10 in this series. Yandy Diaz, 3-13. Like their, their
- 19:24Speaker 1: horses aren't. Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 2: I was, yeah.
- 19:26Speaker 3: The horses aren't carrying you.
- 19:28Speaker 2: And we talked about, you know, what, uh, Caminero needed
- 19:32Speaker 2: to do and kind of carry that, that team a
- 19:34Speaker 2: little bit, the bottom of their lineup's not made for,
- 19:37Speaker 2: you know, slugging and, you know, they're, they're kind of
- 19:40Speaker 2: built a little bit differently. The top of their lineup
- 19:41Speaker 2: has to go, when they're at their best. They're having
- 19:44Speaker 2: a lot of success, but it kind of shocked me
- 19:47Speaker 2: a little bit that Griffin Jacks started the game rather
- 19:50Speaker 2: than Nick Martinez. Just kind of like a side note,
- 19:53Speaker 2: I had Griff in the bullpen with me for Team USA,
- 19:57Speaker 2: and he's probably not the horse yet that he can be,
- 20:03Speaker 2: but he's been dominant out of the bullpen. I thought
- 20:05Speaker 2: he might be a swing guy in some aspect, but
- 20:08Speaker 2: starting Nick Martinez, But Griff threw okay.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I thought he threw well.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And then had to go to that bullpen game and
- 20:14Speaker 2: the big home run from Halpin.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I think that no matter how good your team looks
- 20:22Speaker 1: on paper, no matter how good your starting pitching is,
- 20:25Speaker 1: no matter if you have an insane offense, it all
- 20:30Speaker 1: comes down to the bullpen. And I remember when I
- 20:35Speaker 1: was playing, I understood that, and I always talked and
- 20:38Speaker 1: massaged the bullpen guys. Like, hey, how we doing? Like, hey,
- 20:41Speaker 1: during the year.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Well, that's why you get mad at me.
- 20:44Speaker 2: I get mad at me when I tell you. I
- 20:45Speaker 2: was like, no, they're taking this dude out.
- 20:47Speaker 3: There's no way.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Well, because you managers abuse the bullpen. They're your mules. Like,
- 20:54Speaker 1: I used to tell the guys all the time on
- 20:55Speaker 1: the plane when we were flying, hey, man, go in there.
- 20:59Speaker 1: They can't do it. Go in there and tell them
- 21:02Speaker 1: you need a couple days off. Cause if you don't
- 21:05Speaker 1: do it, no one's going to stand up for you.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I can go in there and tell them, but no one's,
- 21:09Speaker 1: you need to tell them you're too valuable to us
- 21:13Speaker 1: to win the last game of the season. And that's
- 21:15Speaker 1: what our expectations were.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Right. And that's why they're wired. They're wired like that.
- 21:19Speaker 2: And I used to say all the time, like it's
- 21:20Speaker 2: the most underappreciated, but one of the, probably the most
- 21:24Speaker 2: important part of your team. And they do get, they
- 21:26Speaker 2: do get worn out. And those guys are bulldogs down there.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Cause they'll, they'll throw no matter what. That's the mentality
- 21:32Speaker 2: of why they're down there is they don't care if
- 21:34Speaker 2: they have to feel a hundred percent. They, they can
- 21:36Speaker 2: go out and get guys out, but you're absolutely right.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I think one of the, when I look back on
- 21:41Speaker 2: managing and we kind of, we kind of fell apart
- 21:44Speaker 2: at the back end of my last year and missed
- 21:46Speaker 2: the playoffs by one game. But like some of the
- 21:49Speaker 2: stuff I look back on is like, I should have
- 21:52Speaker 2: trusted in young guys a little more. I leaned on
- 21:54Speaker 2: the veterans, the guys that got me there and I
- 21:56Speaker 2: just warm out, you know, like that's, that's real good
- 21:59Speaker 2: lesson that I learned from managing and getting through the
- 22:01Speaker 2: one 62 length of a season and how to best
- 22:05Speaker 2: take care of those guys. That's something like now when
- 22:07Speaker 2: I watch games, I go, man, I probably should have
- 22:10Speaker 2: leaned on some young guys a little bit. One, they
- 22:12Speaker 2: have to develop and they got to figure out even
- 22:13Speaker 2: that I, you know, some of the stuff that I
- 22:16Speaker 2: was biased to was like guys that didn't throw strikes, right?
- 22:19Speaker 2: Young guys had nasty stuff. Didn't throw strikes. Like look
- 22:21Speaker 2: at all the guys that don't really command the baseball
- 22:24Speaker 2: in the world series, but their shit's nasty. And so
- 22:26Speaker 2: right down the middle, gets guys out. So yeah, it's,
- 22:29Speaker 2: it's an important piece and they they're underappreciated for sure.
- 22:33Speaker 1: When you're in that driver's seat and you're expected to win,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you're expected to make the playoffs. Why aren't you going
- 22:38Speaker 1: to your best guys? We get it as players. You
- 22:41Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like you're going to ride your
- 22:43Speaker 1: best guys. Like that's what you're going to do.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Right. So it's like the kicker, the kicker, the kicker
- 22:48Speaker 2: doesn't get noticed until he misses the field goal.
- 22:50Speaker 3: A bullpen guy.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Of course.
- 22:52Speaker 3: They're so important to you winning.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 1: It's, And I know in the postseason you can start
- 22:57Speaker 1: throwing starters in the back end, right, and it gets
- 23:01Speaker 1: all messed up. But it's just the bullpen– I cannot
- 23:06Speaker 1: stress this enough for every team that wants to win
- 23:08Speaker 1: the last game of the World Series. You need to
- 23:10Speaker 1: have the bullpen to do it. Like, your pitching and
- 23:13Speaker 1: defense is great, but that back end of the bullpen
- 23:15Speaker 1: has been lights out. And it's been the theme all series– or,
- 23:18Speaker 1: I'm sorry, all postseason, all these bullpens. Every team has
- 23:22Speaker 1: had the best bullpen, right?
- 23:23Speaker 2: Yep, yep. Well, I think that's why you saw a
- 23:25Speaker 2: lot of the experts not picking the Cubs to go
- 23:29Speaker 2: deep in the postseason, and that's not the reason, obviously.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Excuse me, is how it turned out, but that was
- 23:35Speaker 2: a big reason why they didn't think because they were
- 23:36Speaker 2: going to have to kind of piece it together with
- 23:39Speaker 2: some guys that had struggled a little bit.
- 23:40Speaker 3: But you're right. It's so important.
- 23:43Speaker 2: And the stuff these guys are coming out with, like
- 23:46Speaker 2: talking about Cleveland.
- 23:47Speaker 1: They're making shit up. Yeah, K.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Smith.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Like, he's coming in just looking like it's a walk
- 23:53Speaker 2: in the park.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Far out save.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, like it's no big deal. These guys piecing
- 23:58Speaker 2: it together so good. These managers pulling all the right strings.
- 24:01Speaker 2: You know, I feel like I watch these games. These
- 24:03Speaker 2: managers know their team and their guys so well, obviously,
- 24:07Speaker 2: at this point. But they know how these guys tick.
- 24:10Speaker 2: They don't wait around for them to kind of have
- 24:13Speaker 2: a crappy inning. Like, they're on top of them, and
- 24:16Speaker 2: they know their roles, and they might get extended, and
- 24:19Speaker 2: every guy seems to be on board. With it just
- 24:21Speaker 2: out there competing, I just thought that's really stood out
- 24:23Speaker 2: to me this postseason.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, in a best-of-seven series, which I don't look
- 24:29Speaker 1: into these numbers at all, but we have them in
- 24:31Speaker 1: front of us, the team to win game three when
- 24:34Speaker 1: it's tie 1-1 goes to win the series 70% of
- 24:37Speaker 1: the time. Ooh. So the Guardians are at home for
- 24:40Speaker 1: the next two, right? Rossi, I'm teeing you up. Once again,
- 24:46Speaker 1: who do we got in game four?
- 24:47Speaker 3: I think the Guardians.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I think the Guardians ride the momentum.
- 24:50Speaker 2: You're like that win probability thing ESPN used to have
- 24:53Speaker 2: on the screen. I'm like, screw win probability. Like, this
- 24:57Speaker 2: shit's still got to happen. But the Rays, this is
- 25:03Speaker 2: a tight one. Rays are 51% to the yes, 100
- 25:05Speaker 2: will get you 190. Guardians are 50% to the yes,
- 25:09Speaker 2: and 100 will get you 195.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Man, the.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Guardians just continue to, I know I pick, I hate
- 25:16Speaker 2: picking against my ultimate pick, and this is just one game,
- 25:19Speaker 2: but I got to go with Cleveland. It feels like
- 25:21Speaker 2: they're hitting on all cylinders right now. The grass, the
- 25:27Speaker 2: Rays play better at home. What's their style? It just
- 25:30Speaker 2: looks like they were in control today. With a quick turnaround,
- 25:34Speaker 2: one game tomorrow, they're going to be back feeling good.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Jose Ramirez, it's hard to bet against that guy. He's
- 25:41Speaker 2: so damn good.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Bro, so good. There's rain in the forecast, which Maybe
- 25:48Speaker 1: this is like a reverse thing for them, right? They
- 25:51Speaker 1: beat the White Sox when it was raining. They moved
- 25:55Speaker 1: the game up because it was raining. Maybe this is
- 25:57Speaker 1: like a reverse thing for the Guardians, and we're going
- 26:00Speaker 1: to see the Guardians in the World Series. Who knows?
- 26:04Speaker 1: Who knows if we see them again? I obviously have
- 26:06Speaker 1: a very soft spot for the city of Cleveland in
- 26:08Speaker 1: my heart, right? Greatest World Series of all time.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Bro, one more stat.
- 26:15Speaker 2: I'm throwing a stat geek out here, but like, Guardians bullpen,
- 26:20Speaker 2: one hit in four innings. We talked about the bullpens,
- 26:24Speaker 2: but just dominant.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Absolutely dominant.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Just looking at all these stats we got hooked up with.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Man.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Man, we've had some good baseball. We've had some good baseball.
- 26:35Speaker 2: I'm glad.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Game four tomorrow, Guardians raise. Let's get to our daily
- 26:42Speaker 1: ball bag, Tim Buss ball bag questions of the day, Rossi,
- 26:46Speaker 1: where we answer the hottest questions from our fans via
- 26:49Speaker 1: YouTube comments, social media comments, Instagram comments, X, or you
- 26:55Speaker 1: email us at rossandrizzo at gmail.com. This is by far
- 26:58Speaker 1: our favorite segment of our show. First email is from
- 27:02Speaker 1: James Blumenthal. Can you describe, you know what, we got
- 27:06Speaker 1: a request in here, Chris, if we can get where
- 27:08Speaker 1: they're from too, like where James is from or our
- 27:13Speaker 1: questions are from. Anyways, James Blumenthal, can you describe what
- 27:16Speaker 1: it was like playing for Mr. Madden? Oh, coach. And
- 27:21Speaker 1: his use of all different types of intelligence compared to
- 27:25Speaker 1: managers today who seem like middle management.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Oh, good question, James.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I think.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Joe had a unique ability.
- 27:35Speaker 2: I mean, Joe was the analytic guy before everybody was
- 27:37Speaker 2: talking about analytics.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Like he had that.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Outside-the-box reputation in Tampa Bay. And he was the one,
- 27:44Speaker 2: you know, kind of, you know, created the kind of
- 27:46Speaker 2: super utility guy in Ben Zobrist and a lot of
- 27:49Speaker 2: the shifts and the things that kind of made sense
- 27:53Speaker 2: to him.
- 27:53Speaker 3: But he's an old-school guy.
- 27:54Speaker 2: If you talk to him, he'll tell you he's kind
- 27:58Speaker 2: of a traditionalist at heart. And I think he goes
- 28:01Speaker 2: with his experience. He once told me, giving me some
- 28:05Speaker 2: managing advice, he's like, don't run from your gut everybody
- 28:09Speaker 2: says you know trust the numbers but your gut is
- 28:11Speaker 2: just experience talking to you and you know um kind
- 28:14Speaker 2: of through your career and the things you've dealt with
- 28:17Speaker 2: like what what moves to make and and who to
- 28:20Speaker 2: trust in and whether there's numbers of the players and
- 28:22Speaker 2: stuff like that so he's a traditionalist and i think
- 28:25Speaker 2: he trusts in the numbers but he he's going to
- 28:27Speaker 2: go with his gut when it comes to making a
- 28:30Speaker 2: final decision if it makes sense.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Well well rossi you were a manager Game of Blackjack.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I don't know if you can see my shirt. Are
- 28:40Speaker 1: you hitting on 16? Do you hit on 16?
- 28:42Speaker 3: I'm hitting on 16.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I'm going with it. Every time, really?
- 28:45Speaker 2: Not every time.
- 28:46Speaker 3: No, not every time. Not every time.
- 28:49Speaker 2: When I've got a lot of money out there, I
- 28:50Speaker 2: want to see it play out because I'm tight with
- 28:52Speaker 2: my money.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Well, when you're down. When you're down. When you're down.
- 28:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right.
- 28:56Speaker 1: That's right.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Just leave it.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Just leave it. Let them bust.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Oh, there's probably some people going to blast me for that.
- 29:04Speaker 1: James, I love playing for Joe, what he brought to
- 29:09Speaker 1: a young team. Even as I was older, I loved
- 29:11Speaker 1: playing for him. He always talked to me all the
- 29:14Speaker 1: time if I was struggling. Well, there was one time
- 29:16Speaker 1: we were in Atlanta one year, and he pulled me
- 29:20Speaker 1: in his office. It had to be late April, early May.
- 29:24Speaker 1: And I was struggling. He's like, how are you doing, brother?
- 29:26Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm great. He goes, we need you. Like,
- 29:28Speaker 1: you're going to be, you're the reason why we go.
- 29:31Speaker 1: You're the biggest part of this team. Like, you're going
- 29:33Speaker 1: to get going. Trust me. Like, I promise you, you're
- 29:35Speaker 1: going to get going. He always used to talk me
- 29:37Speaker 1: hitting too, and I loved it, right? and he's like
- 29:40Speaker 1: I promise you I'm gonna write down your numbers and
- 29:42Speaker 1: this is what you're gonna be at the end of
- 29:43Speaker 1: the year I'm gonna put them away and sure enough
- 29:46Speaker 1: that year I ended up driving in 100 hitting 30
- 29:49Speaker 1: and like just that vote of confidence that he gives
- 29:52Speaker 1: you not only for me but you go ask Javi
- 29:55Speaker 1: Baez right like Javi's like Javi go be you right
- 29:59Speaker 1: like Don't try to be anyone else. Be Javi. And
- 30:02Speaker 1: I love that about him. And the biggest compliment I
- 30:07Speaker 1: give to Joe was how he let his staff coach.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Like Davey Martinez, as our bench coach, was the GOAT, right?
- 30:18Speaker 1: Joe was able to do everything he needed to do
- 30:20Speaker 1: with the media and handle all of the BS that
- 30:24Speaker 1: comes with being a manager, as you know, Rossi. And
- 30:26Speaker 1: then Davey Martinez, the bench coach, in my opinion, the
- 30:28Speaker 1: bench coach is the most important person of all staffs
- 30:32Speaker 1: because they can put out all the fires. So, and
- 30:35Speaker 1: then just the rest of his staff, he let them coach.
- 30:39Speaker 1: He let them, and if he ever had anything to say,
- 30:42Speaker 1: he did it together and he never crossed anyone up.
- 30:44Speaker 1: I just, I loved everything about him, obviously.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's awesome.
- 30:50Speaker 3: A really good manager.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Some of the moves he made, like that Seattle game,
- 30:53Speaker 2: moving pitchers in and out, like this guy's a wizard
- 30:55Speaker 2: when it comes to back when you had to double
- 30:57Speaker 2: switch and all that stuff.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Moving pieces around.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Uh, next email is from Jason on the show that
- 31:03Speaker 2: was posted Thursday. Rizzo said, if the league does go
- 31:06Speaker 2: with 154 game season, there should be some incentives to
- 31:09Speaker 2: keep starting pitching in the game longer.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Could you elaborate?
- 31:12Speaker 2: Why does there need to be an incentive?
- 31:15Speaker 3: Great show.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Appreciate that. Uh, Jason, the great show. Uh, first time question,
- 31:22Speaker 1: long time listener, Jason. Thank you. Um, Because I think
- 31:28Speaker 1: if you're going to go once a week, you give
- 31:30Speaker 1: the pitchers– pitchers are now going on pretty much a
- 31:34Speaker 1: six-day rest instead of pitching on the fifth day. They're
- 31:38Speaker 1: pitching on the sixth day. One pitcher a week will
- 31:40Speaker 1: have to go on a five-day. So I just think
- 31:43Speaker 1: that for– I think the league wants more offense, right, to–
- 31:49Speaker 1: And it'll incentivize pitchers not to just throw a billion
- 31:53Speaker 1: miles an hour. They have to go deep in games.
- 31:55Speaker 1: It's more of a strategy. I think it'll be more
- 31:57Speaker 1: of a complete game if pitchers have to go five
- 32:01Speaker 1: or six innings or you lose the DH. That's just
- 32:05Speaker 1: my opinion. I like starting pitching. You go to the ballpark.
- 32:08Speaker 2: You think that lesser games and off day will be
- 32:10Speaker 2: more like these games in the postseason where your guys
- 32:12Speaker 2: are coming out at 70, 80 pitches and they're going
- 32:16Speaker 2: with a bullpen because the bullpen's more rested. And you'll
- 32:19Speaker 2: get those games.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:20Speaker 2: And you don't like that style, and you'd rather the
- 32:23Speaker 2: starters go deep.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Well, you just, as a fan, you go to the ballpark,
- 32:28Speaker 1: and I want to see Tyler Glass now pitch seven innings. Yeah.
- 32:32Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I want to see Jon
- 32:35Speaker 1: Lester throw seven innings. I don't want to go to
- 32:37Speaker 1: the ballpark and Shohei Otani throws four innings or three innings,
- 32:41Speaker 1: and he's out of the game. Like, you're pumped when
- 32:44Speaker 1: you get a big– you're pumped when Jacob Mizorowski's going against–
- 32:49Speaker 1: Tarek Scouble in game one. And then they're both out
- 32:52Speaker 1: in the third inning.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Like, what?
- 32:54Speaker 1: That's not what I paid for. And then, like, look,
- 32:58Speaker 1: as much as I love the bullpen, the bullpen is
- 33:02Speaker 1: the offense alignment of a team. They, like, no one
- 33:05Speaker 1: really knows who they are, like you said, the kicker,
- 33:06Speaker 1: until it's time to know who they are. Now everyone knows.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Now everyone knows who Abner Uribe is, right? Everyone knows
- 33:13Speaker 1: Ashby now. But during the regular season, these guys just
- 33:16Speaker 1: come in, they grind, they put their hard hats on,
- 33:19Speaker 1: they do their job. So, yeah, I just think it
- 33:22Speaker 1: would be a better product. And then picking teams, like
- 33:25Speaker 1: picking your poison is crazy. Best team plays the worst team,
- 33:29Speaker 1: and you just seed it that way.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:31Speaker 3: All right, thanks, Jason.
- 33:33Speaker 2: That's our first question from a listener that asked about
- 33:36Speaker 2: a previous show, too. Yes. That was nice. That was nice.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Email from Rowan Campbell. Hello, Ross and Rizzo. Hello, Rowan.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Hello, Rowan.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Hello, Governor. I really enjoy your podcast. What was it
- 33:50Speaker 1: like playing against one of the all-time greats, Jose Ramirez?
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I got my favorite story about Jose Ramirez, and
- 33:59Speaker 2: he was just a, I think he was a rookie
- 34:02Speaker 2: in 16 when he was in the World Series. And
- 34:06Speaker 2: I remember the game one, catching Lester, I went so
- 34:09Speaker 2: scouting report heavy that by like the second, third time
- 34:13Speaker 2: through the order, like we were trying to throw in
- 34:15Speaker 2: a Dixie Cup down our way. We're doing more sinkers.
- 34:17Speaker 2: And John's strength is like four seamers in, cutters off
- 34:20Speaker 2: that to righties. And it gets him locked in to
- 34:22Speaker 2: all those other pitches, breaking ball underneath. And before game five,
- 34:27Speaker 2: we went over the scouting report, and I said, hey, bro,
- 34:29Speaker 2: we just got to pound all these guys. We're going
- 34:31Speaker 2: to set you up first. So we're calling, and he
- 34:34Speaker 2: strikes out the side in the first inning. and he's
- 34:40Speaker 2: just throwing BBs down there.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Juices are flowing. We're at Wrigley. It's loud. And then
- 34:45Speaker 3: we did it again.
- 34:47Speaker 2: All first pitches were four-seamers in. The next inning, I
- 34:50Speaker 2: can't remember if we got the first guy out, and
- 34:52Speaker 2: I think Jose Ramirez, he was the second or third batter.
- 34:54Speaker 2: We had gotten everybody out to that point, and I
- 34:56Speaker 2: went first one in, and nobody still hadn't swung at
- 34:59Speaker 2: that heater end.
- 35:00Speaker 3: And I'm like, you know what?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Screw it. Like, I'm going to be stubborn. Let's go
- 35:03Speaker 2: four-seam run again. And he hit it to the moon, bro. Like,
- 35:08Speaker 2: four-seam run, he was 96, just absolute tank. I was like, well, okay,
- 35:12Speaker 2: we've got him committed to Inman now. We better start
- 35:14Speaker 2: mixing up the pitches.
- 35:15Speaker 1: At least you got him committed.
- 35:17Speaker 2: It was a good pitch, too, and he knocked the
- 35:20Speaker 2: shit out of it.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, Rowan, he was– I mean, he's one of
- 35:25Speaker 1: those guys that you just respect. He doesn't get the
- 35:28Speaker 1: attention and– There's, like, notoriety he deserves, in my opinion,
- 35:33Speaker 1: because maybe he's hidden in Cleveland. But in the baseball world, bro,
- 35:37Speaker 1: everyone knows that lineup, if you're game-planning against that lineup,
- 35:41Speaker 1: it's him that you're game-planning against, right? Do not let
- 35:44Speaker 1: him beat you. Every game is do not let Jose
- 35:46Speaker 1: beat you. So good story I have with him. One year,
- 35:50Speaker 1: it had to be 2021 because Nico loves this story.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Nico Horner loves this story. We were playing, and Nico's
- 35:58Speaker 1: playing second. I was holding the runner on at first,
- 36:01Speaker 1: and Jose Ramirez, Rat Wrigley, he yells at me. He goes, hey,
- 36:04Speaker 1: Anthony Rizzo. You ever see that clip of Freddie Freeman
- 36:06Speaker 1: when he's.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Like, hey, Freddie Freeman? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:10Speaker 1: He did that to me. He's like, hey, Rizzo.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Anthony Rizzo.
- 36:12Speaker 1: He's like, gold glove?
- 36:15Speaker 2: Platinum glove?
- 36:16Speaker 1: I was like, yeah. He goes, and he just gives
- 36:18Speaker 1: me the thumbs up.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Niko saw the whole thing go down. The whole thing
- 36:24Speaker 5: from second base. And he's dying, so. We, Nico and
- 36:28Speaker 5: I joke about that still to this day. So it's just, again,
- 36:31Speaker 5: it's like guys like that who clearly plays.
- 36:35Speaker 1: The game the right way and looks like he enjoys
- 36:37Speaker 1: the game. You don't really ever hear any bad things
- 36:39Speaker 1: about him. So yeah. Yeah.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I feel like he sets the tone for that group too, man.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Like the way he plays, I think their assistant GM
- 36:48Speaker 2: or somebody, their GM was on a intentional talk today
- 36:51Speaker 2: and he was talking about, just like how do you
- 36:53Speaker 2: get guys one through nine to play hard and with
- 36:56Speaker 2: a certain edge and a certain standard there.
- 36:59Speaker 3: And he said, when you have your superstar, who's a future.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Hall of famer playing like that every single day, not
- 37:05Speaker 2: running his mouth, not showboating, he's out there just trying
- 37:08Speaker 2: to win baseball games with his glove, with his bat,
- 37:10Speaker 2: with his legs, um, with his mentality. And, and like,
- 37:14Speaker 2: I thought that it couldn't have been a bigger compliment
- 37:16Speaker 2: that you could get as a player, especially a caliber
- 37:19Speaker 2: of his is, is something like that come from, from
- 37:22Speaker 2: your peers. So, Obviously, he's a stud, and he's having
- 37:26Speaker 2: a great postseason. He's gotten hot at the right time, and.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Here they go. Here goes Cleveland.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Here goes Cleveland.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Here goes Cleveland.
- 37:34Speaker 1: We have a Milwaukee Brewers versus Guardians or Rays World Series.
- 37:40Speaker 1: We will have a new champion. Could end a drought
- 37:45Speaker 1: for the Guardians slash Indians. Could be a first for
- 37:51Speaker 1: the Rays and Brewers.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Slash Indians.
- 37:54Speaker 1: We are in for hopefully this series goes the distance
- 37:59Speaker 1: just for baseball, right? Hopefully the Guardians of the Rays
- 38:02Speaker 1: go seven at the Trop. There's a dramatic game there
- 38:06Speaker 1: in the ninth to send their team to the World Series,
- 38:07Speaker 1: whoever does it. On this side now, it's just how
- 38:10Speaker 1: can you not root for good games and fans of players?
- 38:13Speaker 3: Same.
- 38:14Speaker 2: I keep thinking that when I'm watching games. I'm like
- 38:16Speaker 2: rooting for both sides and want to give love to
- 38:19Speaker 2: both sides. And it's just fun to be in kind
- 38:22Speaker 2: of doing the podcast stuff with you. It's just fun
- 38:24Speaker 2: to talk up when guys have awesome moments. So Joe
- 38:28Speaker 2: Davis said, I think it was, no, who was it?
- 38:32Speaker 2: Somebody doing the TBS broadcast. I'm blanking on his name,
- 38:36Speaker 2: but he said, you know, so-and-so got a big hit.
- 38:39Speaker 2: He was like, meets the moment, you know, and when
- 38:41Speaker 2: you meet the moment and you have those big hits
- 38:43Speaker 2: in your, your post-season career, it just is like, it's history.
- 38:47Speaker 3: It's like legendary.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Every kid, parent watching that remembers that. I get more
- 38:51Speaker 2: people coming up and mentioning my game seven home run.
- 38:54Speaker 2: That was like the last memory for me. It was
- 38:56Speaker 2: about the block I missed and the two runs scoring
- 38:59Speaker 2: and like, you know, like just dumb little stuff that
- 39:02Speaker 2: I remember and other people just remember those moments that
- 39:06Speaker 2: you give them. And there's been so many this post-season.
- 39:08Speaker 2: I hope we get a lot more.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's literally, this is what it's all about as
- 39:12Speaker 1: a baseball player. And as a little kid dreaming, it
- 39:17Speaker 1: looks like there's little kids playing right now and they're
- 39:19Speaker 1: having fun. So just an amazing product on the field. Rossi,
- 39:24Speaker 1: Brewers want this Guardians Race Series to go seven, right?
- 39:28Speaker 1: They just want them to beat up on it. each
- 39:30Speaker 1: other and just get absolutely mentally tore up or not
- 39:34Speaker 1: so much.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Well, I thought that.
- 39:35Speaker 2: About Cleveland in the White Sox series, but they just
- 39:39Speaker 2: carried that momentum. There's something about, and you know how
- 39:42Speaker 2: this is, during a regular season and you're on a roll,
- 39:44Speaker 2: you won nine of 10 or nine in a row
- 39:47Speaker 2: or whatever it is, And you've got.
- 39:48Speaker 3: An off day.
- 39:49Speaker 2: That's the last time you want an off day. But
- 39:52Speaker 2: if you've lost six in a row, an off day
- 39:55Speaker 2: can't come fast enough. I think it's just one of
- 39:59Speaker 2: those who can continue to stay sharp. Brewers are going
- 40:01Speaker 2: to have to lock in and stay sharp. By winning
- 40:05Speaker 2: the division, they didn't seem like they had any rust
- 40:07Speaker 2: on them at all in the division series. I think
- 40:12Speaker 2: you do want that. You want all the pitchers to
- 40:14Speaker 2: be tired when you get to them, but there's also
- 40:15Speaker 2: that that sense of like we can overcome anything fight
- 40:18Speaker 2: that that gives you going on to the world series.
- 40:20Speaker 2: If you go to game seven and you know, I
- 40:23Speaker 2: think about that, the last inning in game four against
- 40:28Speaker 2: San Francisco, when we came back and scored all those
- 40:31Speaker 2: runs like that, that those moments are just create relentlessness
- 40:34Speaker 2: and never give up in you. And all these teams
- 40:36Speaker 2: have that, but it just, it gives you that momentum.
- 40:39Speaker 2: And I think it's so powerful this time of year.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I, Usually I would say yes to
- 40:46Speaker 1: the seven games here if I was the team waiting.
- 40:49Speaker 1: But I think that it would be better for the.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Brewers if.
- 40:54Speaker 1: The Guardians won in five games. Because then the Guardians
- 40:59Speaker 1: get time to think, right? And it's like I could
- 41:03Speaker 1: see two ways, right? Right now the Guardians are like
- 41:06Speaker 1: this team is on a run right now, right?
- 41:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:09Speaker 1: They're up 2-1 against the Rays. They're a really good team.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Maybe they're not getting the credit due to them. But
- 41:16Speaker 1: if they win in five and then they have three,
- 41:19Speaker 1: four days off in between that game and the World Series,
- 41:23Speaker 1: maybe they start thinking a little bit. And then on
- 41:25Speaker 1: the flip side, it's like this team is not built
- 41:29Speaker 1: on starting pitching. They have studs. Don't get me wrong.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Messick and Williams are studs. But their bullpen is going
- 41:36Speaker 1: to take a lot of taxing. in this seven-game series
- 41:40Speaker 1: if this goes seven, right? They were crushed in the
- 41:43Speaker 1: five-game series. Then they would go seven games into another
- 41:47Speaker 1: seven games. So if I'm the Brewers, it's like, it
- 41:53Speaker 1: doesn't matter. Let's just play baseball. We're on a World Series.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Let's just put our best foot forward.
- 41:58Speaker 3: And let's just stay sharp.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Good show.

- 42:25Speaker 1: Hold on.
- 42:25Speaker 3: I got a quick story.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Hold on. Wait, wait, wait.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Before we peace out, Harper's reading my book.
- 42:30Speaker 2: She's reading Teammate for her.
- 42:33Speaker 1: That's his daughter. That's my daughter. Sorry, my little mate.
- 42:35Speaker 2: She's 11. And she asked me today, she goes, Dad,
- 42:39Speaker 2: did Mr. Rizzo really, was he really naked in the
- 42:42Speaker 2: locker room and doing the Rocky stuff?
- 42:44Speaker 3: That's what my 11-year-old asked me today. She's got it all.
- 42:47Speaker 2: And she said, hey, oh, and Dad, I learned the
- 42:50Speaker 2: origin of the cock bump, just.
- 42:52Speaker 3: So you know. I was like, oh, my God.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Anyways, I had to end with that story.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Ross Rizzo, out.
