- 0:12Hello friends. Sean here.
- 0:15Lovely to have your company. Thank you for inviting me into
- 0:18your day. I wonder what you've got on
- 0:21today. Is it a big day?
- 0:23Is it a quiet day? Is it just a day that feels like
- 0:27it's one in a long line of days that all feel very similar?
- 0:32Whatever your day holds for you or has held for you, I'm so glad
- 0:36that for this moment you and I can put down whatever life is
- 0:41throwing at us. And we can come before our God
- 0:45to hear words of faithfulness and promise as spoken all those
- 0:51years ago through Isaiah. Today we continue with the theme
- 0:56of God telling His people that he will restore them.
- 0:59He will restore them to their land so they can be prosperous
- 1:03just as they once were, but this time hopefully with their hearts
- 1:09attuned to their God. So join me, friends, as we read
- 1:13together. Isaiah, Chapter 50.
- 1:25This is what the Lord says. Was your mother sent away
- 1:30because I divorced her? Did I sell you as slaves to my
- 1:34creditors? No.
- 1:36He was sold because of your sins, and your mother too was
- 1:40taken because of your sins. Why was no one there when I
- 1:44came? Why didn't anyone answer when I
- 1:47called? Is it because I have no power to
- 1:50rescue? No, that is not the reason, for
- 1:53I can speak to the sea and make it dry up.
- 1:56I can turn rivers into deserts covered with dying fish.
- 2:01I dress the skies in darkness, covering them with clouds of
- 2:05mourning. The Sovereign Lord has given me
- 2:08His words of wisdom so that I know how to comfort the weary
- 2:13mourning. By mourning, He wakens me and
- 2:16opens my understanding to His will.
- 2:19The Sovereign Lord has spoken to me and I have listened.
- 2:23I have not rebelled or turned away.
- 2:26I offered my back to those who beat me and my cheeks to those
- 2:29who pulled out my beard. I did not hide my face from
- 2:33mockery and spitting. Because the Sovereign Lord helps
- 2:37me. I will not be disgraced.
- 2:41Therefore I have set my face like a stone, determined to do
- 2:45His will. And I know that I will not be
- 2:49put to shame. He who gives me justice is near.
- 2:53Who will dare to bring charges against me?
- 2:56Now where are my accusers? Let them appear.
- 3:01See, the Sovereign Lord is on my side.
- 3:05Who will declare me guilty? All my enemies will be destroyed
- 3:09like old clothes that have been eaten by moths.
- 3:13Who among you fears the Lord and obeys his servant?
- 3:16If you are walking in darkness without a ray of light, trust in
- 3:21the Lord and rely on your God. But watch out you who live in
- 3:27your own light and warm yourselves by your own fires.
- 3:31This is the reward you will receive from me.
- 3:34You will soon fall down in great torment.
- 3:49Lord, you have given us abilities and giftings so that
- 3:54we can stand firmly on our own feet and we can have agency in
- 3:58this world around us. But please, as Isaiah urges us,
- 4:04let us never forget that it's when we stand in Your grace,
- 4:11when we lean on your stability, when it's you that is our
- 4:15foundation, that is when we are able to achieve great things.
- 4:22Thank you that you love us and that you draw us in and you
- 4:26provide for us. Just tune our minds to always
- 4:32see it as your provision and not our own cleverness, as your
- 4:36gifting, and not our own reward for our own brilliance.
- 4:42We love you and we are so grateful for all the things that
- 4:46you bless us with and we place you firmly in our sights as the
- 4:52giver of all these good gifts. And we pray all these things in
- 4:56Jesus name. Amen.
