- 0:20Speaker 1: Well, hello. Welcome to Pastor's Perspective. I'm your host, Brian Perez.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Oh good, a pastor just walked in.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Got freaked out for a moment there. You were locked out.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Oh man. Well, maybe you shouldn't be here. No, I'm joking.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Stay right here. It's Tommy Coda, pastor of Hope Alive
- 0:36Speaker 1: Church in Santa Ana, joining me today to answer your
- 0:40Speaker 1: questions about the Bible, the Christian faith, just about anything
- 0:43Speaker 1: that's on your mind. 888-564-6173 is the number to call.
- 0:48Speaker 1: That's 888-564-6.
- 0:50Speaker 1: 173. We are live streaming right now on Facebook, YouTube,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and Instagram so you can watch what's going on there.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Not a whole lot going on. You'll just see, well,
- 0:59Speaker 1: you'll see Tommy's cool hat. Well, there you go, yeah, that's,
- 1:03Speaker 1: that's enough for people to log in and comment. Make
- 1:06Speaker 1: sure you comment if you like Tommy's hat there on Facebook.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Make sure you tell people how you feel about it.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I like it personally. Uh, I don't look good in hats, so.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I couldn't do it. Plus the headphones over the hat
- 1:16Speaker 1: wouldn't work. Well, maybe a Dodger hat. Definitely not a
- 1:20Speaker 1: Dodger hat. Not gonna do that. No, no, no, no.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Speaking of Dodgers though, well, I mean, because he's the,
- 1:28Speaker 1: the archrival.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yes, San Diego Padres fan Phil Metzger is here joining
- 1:33Speaker 1: us from Calgary, San Diego. We're not rivals. They, they
- 1:37Speaker 1: dominate us. You can't be a rival if you can't
- 1:39Speaker 1: beat them. You gotta beat them to be a rival.
- 1:42Speaker 1: They acknowledge that. Yes, and this, this is true.
- 1:46Speaker 1: However, we did, we did, um, we've been in a
- 1:49Speaker 1: pretty dominating position right now. We're doing pretty good, but again, I'm, I'm,
- 1:53Speaker 1: let's be humble here, Padre fans. We, uh, we haven't
- 1:56Speaker 1: beat the Dodgers, so, yeah, the past two games for
- 1:59Speaker 1: the Padres, they, you know, I think they, they're so, uh,
- 2:02Speaker 1: they got so emotional. Maybe they, they got all those
- 2:04Speaker 1: wiggles out, and now they're gonna come back down to reality.
- 2:07Speaker 1: We'll see. You hope so. You hope so.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I was there at the game last night. What a fun, fun. Oh,
- 2:15Speaker 1: were you really? Absolute party in San Diego. Yeah, I mean, just,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you know, it's, yeah, I'm not, you know, baseball is whatever,
- 2:21Speaker 1: but it was just a fun, fun time to be
- 2:23Speaker 1: with a bunch of San Diegans. Well, when it comes
- 2:25Speaker 1: time to, uh, in October and, and baseball playoffs and
- 2:28Speaker 1: all that stuff, that's always, it's always fun. That's, that's
- 2:31Speaker 1: kind of like the second season, you know, that gets you,
- 2:34Speaker 1: that's the problem. We wouldn't know.
- 2:38Speaker 1: We definitely in the first half, huh? Yeah, it's, yeah,
- 2:41Speaker 1: it's a month long. So yeah, the Angels, we scored 100% this. Oh, no, no,
- 2:46Speaker 1: that's 100 games lost. Well, I, you know, there's, there's a,
- 2:50Speaker 1: there's a, there's a few Angel fans that, that come
- 2:52Speaker 1: to Hope Life Church, and, and I think their biggest
- 2:55Speaker 1: win last night at church, one of the guys like, well,
- 2:58Speaker 1: we got a, we got a new owner. I, that's
- 3:00Speaker 1: what they were really happy about. So everyone's really excited
- 3:03Speaker 1: about that. Yeah, yeah, we'll see for sure. Hopefully that'll.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Help a little bit, at least, maybe at least get,
- 3:09Speaker 1: make us a 500 team. That'd be nice.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Uh, 888-564-6173 is the number to call us today here
- 3:15Speaker 1: on Pastor's Perspective. You can also submit your questions online
- 3:19Speaker 1: through the Pastor's Perspective Facebook page using Messenger, or you
- 3:23Speaker 1: can DM us on the Pastor's Perspective Instagram, or look
- 3:27Speaker 1: for the pastor's perspective page at Kwave.com where you can
- 3:30Speaker 1: fill out that form there, that'll get to us. We
- 3:33Speaker 1: probably won't see any of those today though, so if
- 3:35Speaker 1: you've got a question, make sure to call in.
- 3:37Speaker 1: To 888-564-6173 and we'll see if we can help. Let's
- 3:42Speaker 1: begin with a question that was submitted on Instagram. It
- 3:44Speaker 1: is from Edward, who writes, I keep sinning. How can
- 3:49Speaker 1: I stop? I keep praying over and over. How can
- 3:54Speaker 1: I follow Jesus? Tommy, what do you say to Edward?
- 3:57Speaker 1: You know, uh, well, Edward, you know, I, I would say, uh,
- 4:01Speaker 1: in some ways, join the club. Uh, we all sin.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You know, uh, but I, I think I understand, you know,
- 4:07Speaker 1: where maybe his, uh, his question is coming from it,
- 4:10Speaker 1: you know, again, I think this might, we might be
- 4:13Speaker 1: the reason why it's good to have, have people call in,
- 4:15Speaker 1: you know, because it could be a habitual same kind
- 4:18Speaker 1: of sin is, you know, and everything, um, and I
- 4:22Speaker 1: think this is one of the wonderful things about the
- 4:26Speaker 1: church and, you know, God's God's design in the church and,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and just being with one another.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I, I think of a passage in the book of
- 4:34Speaker 1: James in chapter number 5 where.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Uh, the writer there, James, he says to confess our
- 4:39Speaker 1: sins one to another, and there's something powerful about that, yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 1: because when we do confess our sin, uh, to the Lord,
- 4:48Speaker 1: you know, he is faithful and, and just to forgive
- 4:52Speaker 1: us of our sins and, and to wash us and
- 4:54Speaker 1: to cleanse us. That's the faithfulness of God, that's the
- 4:57Speaker 1: grace of God, that's the mercy of God, that's, that's
- 4:59Speaker 1: the character of God and, and yet at the same time.
- 5:02Speaker 1: You know, we, this side of heaven, we may find
- 5:06Speaker 1: ourselves like in this, these moments and areas of bondage
- 5:10Speaker 1: where it's just a a.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It is just really hard to get through some things and,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and that's where, again, that's where the beauty of the
- 5:18Speaker 1: church and the power of, of just being connected with
- 5:22Speaker 1: the body of Christ. And so I would encourage Edward,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you know, to this might be something, whatever it is
- 5:27Speaker 1: that he might be wrestling with, if it's something specific,
- 5:30Speaker 1: which it may be, uh, that's where you just get
- 5:33Speaker 1: some accountability or or talk with his pastor, talk with some,
- 5:36Speaker 1: some spiritual leaders there in his church, um, that he can.
- 5:40Speaker 1: You know, say, hey, these are some things that I
- 5:42Speaker 1: keep falling in and I keep wrestling with and I, I,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I can't seem to get through it. And I, I want,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you know, I want to get through this and, um,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and prayerfully, that's where, where that comes in because then
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's like, hey, someone else, you know, can look at
- 5:56Speaker 1: me with, you know, hearts of, uh, a heart of
- 5:58Speaker 1: love and, and prayer, but also be real and say,
- 6:00Speaker 1: hey man, how are you doing today with this, whatever
- 6:03Speaker 1: it is that you're, you're wrestling with, you know, are you,
- 6:06Speaker 1: you know, having a good day with it and stuff. So.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I think that's something that's important to do. Yeah, Phil,
- 6:11Speaker 1: what would you say, Phil, your lights just went out.
- 6:13Speaker 1: That was weird. Oh, we lost Phil. Nope, there he's back. No,
- 6:18Speaker 1: that was so weird. Did you? OK, you saw it too.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Me too. I thought it was just on our end. Yeah, man. No.
- 6:25Speaker 1: All right, it was on.
- 6:27Speaker 1: No, because my computer is going crazy on me. Yeah,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I completely and, oh, go ahead. There, there you are.
- 6:34Speaker 1: You're back. Am I back now? OK.
- 6:38Speaker 1: No, you're not. Um, no, it's terrible. Might have to, uh, yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 1: might have to reboot or something. Or is that on
- 6:46Speaker 1: our end that we have to reboot? Maybe we'll both
- 6:48Speaker 1: do it, and then, you know, on the count of 3123, reboot,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and then everything will work again. All right, am I
- 6:54Speaker 1: back on now? I can hear you. Your lips don't
- 6:57Speaker 1: match the video, so you know, but go ahead I'll
- 7:00Speaker 1: even come back. Well, go ahead and give the answer first,
- 7:02Speaker 1: and if it, it doesn't work, then we'll stop.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Um, I was gonna say I loved what Tommy shared.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I think accountability is the thing that's always lacking when people,
- 7:12Speaker 1: when Christians want help, is we, you cannot pray away what, um,
- 7:18Speaker 1: oftentimes the body of, like, this is why God made
- 7:21Speaker 1: us a part of a body, where we are, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: iron sharpening iron, we're a part of a body, and
- 7:27Speaker 1: so we need to lean in, um, on that, like
- 7:29Speaker 1: you're not, you're not meant to try to live out
- 7:32Speaker 1: your Christian life.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Incognito or on your own, it's just that's just not feasible.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's not realistic. And so, um, I'd, I'd really encourage
- 7:42Speaker 1: this person to like, you know, a, a prayer is great,
- 7:45Speaker 1: but when you're praying and nobody else is like you're
- 7:48Speaker 1: not like speaking out loud sometimes you're, you're the things
- 7:51Speaker 1: that you need help with, uh, you just don't get
- 7:54Speaker 1: the help. That's just the reality and, um.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And so, you know, speak it out, have a friend
- 8:00Speaker 1: that you can talk to that will hold you accountable.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I loved it. I thought it was a great answer, Tommy. Oh,
- 8:05Speaker 1: praise the Lord. Yeah, you know, another thing I think,
- 8:07Speaker 1: you know, as you're sharing feels like it, it's um.
- 8:12Speaker 1: The enemy will condemn us, you know, and I think
- 8:14Speaker 1: when we, when we are confessing and we're connecting with
- 8:17Speaker 1: other people and, and within the church and within the
- 8:20Speaker 1: body of Christ, you know, it, it has, there's a,
- 8:23Speaker 1: it kind of removes this hindrance of guilt, you know, um, and,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and condemnation, you know, that we have and so yeah, I,
- 8:31Speaker 1: I would encourage that and you know, also too, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: think sometimes, you know, um.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Like when a person may read this passage and they'll
- 8:38Speaker 1: be like, oh man, I'm just gonna go and confess
- 8:40Speaker 1: my sin, and you know, I was gonna go tell
- 8:42Speaker 1: anybody and everybody like all these things that I'm going through,
- 8:45Speaker 1: it's like, well, I, I would encourage people like, um, that's, yeah,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I'm glad that you wanna share with people and you wanna,
- 8:51Speaker 1: you know, find some accountability, but I would also encourage
- 8:54Speaker 1: like find that right person, like, you know, people that's
- 8:56Speaker 1: gonna point you to Jesus and, and, and, and truly,
- 9:01Speaker 1: you know, keep you, um, in prayer and constantly point
- 9:03Speaker 1: you to the Lord, you know, so.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that, because that can be a dangerous thing is,
- 9:07Speaker 1: it's like, you know, all this, you know, you tell your, your, yeah,
- 9:12Speaker 1: everybody now knows all these struggles and you're like, hey,
- 9:15Speaker 1: what's going on here, you know, man, during church, turn
- 9:17Speaker 1: around and say hi to the person next to you
- 9:20Speaker 1: and tell them a little bit about yourself. Yeah, tell
- 9:22Speaker 1: them the worst thing you did this week.
- 9:25Speaker 1: No, no, no, may not be the best place to be.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Share that with Jesus. That's right, Edward. Thank you so
- 9:30Speaker 1: much for sending in your question through the pastor's perspective Instagram.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Uh, by DMing us, that's one of the ways that
- 9:37Speaker 1: you can get your question to us also by using
- 9:39Speaker 1: Messenger on the pastor's perspective Facebook page or by scanning
- 9:43Speaker 1: the QR code if you're watching on Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram.
- 9:46Speaker 1: That'll take you to the pastor's perspective page at Kwave.com
- 9:50Speaker 1: where you can submit that form there and that'll get
- 9:53Speaker 1: your question to us. We won't see it today, like
- 9:55Speaker 1: I said a little bit ago. So if you
- 9:57Speaker 1: Have a question today, call us and we'll try to
- 9:59Speaker 1: get to you at 888-564-6173. Let's uh do one more
- 10:05Speaker 1: for now anyway, uh, that was sent in online, this
- 10:08Speaker 1: one through the pastor's perspective page at Kwave.com. Vince writes
- 10:13Speaker 1: regarding Luke chapter 14, verses 25 through 33. I'm not
- 10:19Speaker 1: gonna read the whole passage there, but the heading in
- 10:22Speaker 1: my Bible at least says the cost of being a disciple.
- 10:26Speaker 1: So, um, Vince wants to know, uh, Jesus is calling
- 10:30Speaker 1: the crowds to discipleship by loving Him more than their
- 10:33Speaker 1: earthly family, bearing their cross, renouncing all that they have.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Can you help me understand the parable in verses 28
- 10:41Speaker 1: through 32?
- 10:43Speaker 1: Uh, is he calling them to consider if they're really
- 10:46Speaker 1: willing to go all in on being a disciple, or
- 10:48Speaker 1: is he challenging them to consider if they're willing to
- 10:51Speaker 1: renounce their earthly building projects and plans for war? I
- 10:56Speaker 1: believe both of these are part of discipleship, but I
- 10:59Speaker 1: usually hear the former mentioned and not the latter when
- 11:02Speaker 1: teaching this passage. So, uh, 28 through 32.
- 11:08Speaker 1: It's kind of a lot too, but, uh, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: suppose one of you wants to build a tower, won't
- 11:12Speaker 1: you first sit down and estimate the cost, uh, or
- 11:15Speaker 1: suppose a king is about to go to war against
- 11:17Speaker 1: another king, won't he first sit down and consider whether
- 11:19Speaker 1: he's able, uh, to fight in the battle? So what
- 11:24Speaker 1: do these passages mean for us when it comes to
- 11:27Speaker 1: discipleship and our
- 11:29Speaker 1: Our walk with Jesus. What would you say, Tommy?
- 11:33Speaker 1: This is a great question. Also, it's also a great
- 11:36Speaker 1: passage here because it's always a reminder that, you know, um,
- 11:41Speaker 1: there is, there is a cost, you know, to, to
- 11:44Speaker 1: consider that cost, you know, and it's, um, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 1: when I think of.
- 11:48Speaker 1: When, when it coming to, to the thing of of
- 11:51Speaker 1: Christianity and and serving, see, there is no room for
- 11:55Speaker 1: spectators in, in, in, in Christianity. You know, we've all
- 12:01Speaker 1: been given a gift. We've all been called to serve somehow,
- 12:04Speaker 1: some way, you know, some in greater capacities than others. Um,
- 12:08Speaker 1: but at the same time, there is, there is a
- 12:10Speaker 1: cost and
- 12:12Speaker 1: You know, God, when the Lord calls us to do something,
- 12:15Speaker 1: it's rare, rare. It's, I don't see any place where
- 12:19Speaker 1: he calls us to do things that that is easy
- 12:21Speaker 1: and it's simple. You know, there's always going to be
- 12:24Speaker 1: um some kind of cost that that is to it.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And so I think when you're looking at here when
- 12:30Speaker 1: Jesus uses this analogy and and
- 12:33Speaker 1: In regards to, like, you know, war and battle, you know, there's,
- 12:36Speaker 1: there's consideration of what's gonna, you know, it, what, what's
- 12:41Speaker 1: required of, um, or required, excuse me, what's required of
- 12:44Speaker 1: all these things, you know, to serve, and it's not
- 12:46Speaker 1: gonna necessarily be an easy thing, you know, Jesus does
- 12:49Speaker 1: call us to pick up our cross, you know, so
- 12:51Speaker 1: it's a, it's a life of sacrifice, you know, and,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and laying it down before him and, and prioritizing.
- 12:58Speaker 1: You know, the things of God in my life rather
- 13:00Speaker 1: than my comfort, you know, because, um, you know, that
- 13:04Speaker 1: can be an, you know, an easy thing to do. So,
- 13:06Speaker 1: you know, I'd rather be comfortable, but we have to
- 13:09Speaker 1: consider the cost when we're following, when we're following the Lord.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So does being comfortable about something automatically mean, like we
- 13:16Speaker 1: often hear the phrase in Christian circles, I prayed about
- 13:21Speaker 1: something and I, I felt a piece about it.
- 13:24Speaker 1: So, I mean, are we always going to feel a
- 13:26Speaker 1: piece about it because sometimes we've got to do those
- 13:28Speaker 1: hard things. Carrying a cross, I don't think it's something
- 13:31Speaker 1: that you could just say, oh yeah, I felt a
- 13:33Speaker 1: piece about carrying it, or, or whatever, whatever you're going through.
- 13:37Speaker 1: You're not carrying a physical literal cross, of course, but
- 13:40Speaker 1: whatever it is that you might be going through. Um, Phil,
- 13:43Speaker 1: want to start on that one? Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm happy to. And then, uh, and maybe I
- 13:47Speaker 1: can say a little bit more on the, on the
- 13:49Speaker 1: first issue too, but no, that's a great point, Brian,
- 13:51Speaker 1: and I think you're, you're, you put the ball in
- 13:52Speaker 1: the tee to make it very easy. It's so true. We,
- 13:55Speaker 1: we have this tendency of, you know, I think especially
- 13:58Speaker 1: for those of us that live in the Western world, um,
- 14:01Speaker 1: it's easy to confuse, uh, Christianity with the, like, uh,
- 14:07Speaker 1: With the prosperity kind of mindset of like.
- 14:12Speaker 1: You know, um, you know, life and liberty, kind of
- 14:14Speaker 1: the American way, but, you know, even just in the
- 14:17Speaker 1: Western world, like, you know, hey, isn't life about getting,
- 14:20Speaker 1: you know, things getting better, right? I, um, life is
- 14:24Speaker 1: supposed to keep progressing in a better direction for me, right? I, I'm,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I'm not married and then I get married. I, I'm
- 14:31Speaker 1: in an, uh, uh, I, I'm in a lousy apartment
- 14:34Speaker 1: and I got into a better apartment. It's like, it's
- 14:35Speaker 1: like we have this idea that things are supposed to
- 14:37Speaker 1: get better and that's like,
- 14:38Speaker 1: And when we mix that with our Christianity, we, we
- 14:41Speaker 1: miss a really fundamental, like really critical part of the
- 14:44Speaker 1: Christian faith, and that is that Jesus took up his cross,
- 14:48Speaker 1: like literally and physically took up his cross. And so,
- 14:53Speaker 1: He then calls us to do the same thing. And so, yeah, there,
- 14:56Speaker 1: you know, you can overextend that to the, the idea
- 14:59Speaker 1: that like, you know, if you're ever happy, it's probably
- 15:01Speaker 1: not God because you're supposed to suffer as a Christian.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I hear that too. On the other hand, you know, oh,
- 15:07Speaker 1: if I don't have a piece about it, then it
- 15:08Speaker 1: can't be the Lord, and the truth is, is like,
- 15:11Speaker 1: And I, I used to always say this to Bible
- 15:13Speaker 1: college students, and I'll say it here, and I don't
- 15:14Speaker 1: mean it as a joke, but dude, sometimes I don't
- 15:16Speaker 1: have peace because of what I ate last night. It
- 15:18Speaker 1: has nothing to do with the will of God. I
- 15:21Speaker 1: didn't sleep good. I, or I don't like what it
- 15:23Speaker 1: is that God's showing me. And I mean, man, I've
- 15:26Speaker 1: had to have, hard conversations. Dude, you know, the hardest
- 15:29Speaker 1: conversations I've ever had in my life? When people tell
- 15:31Speaker 1: me how wrong I am, and I have to admit it.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Those are.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Awful. Those are, I have no peace when that happens, 0.
- 15:39Speaker 1: I have zero peace. I'm angry or I'm sad that
- 15:44Speaker 1: I was that way, or I'm just bummed that I'm
- 15:46Speaker 1: still like a lousy person. I have no peace at all.
- 15:50Speaker 1: So peace is not an indicator of the will of
- 15:53Speaker 1: God at all. The only thing, and then I'd love
- 15:55Speaker 1: to have Tommy, if you wanted to say something to that.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I just wanted to say really quickly, that passage is
- 16:00Speaker 1: a great passage, and I think Tommy did a good
- 16:01Speaker 1: job of reminding the, the, the writer that.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Or the questioner, that the, the two analogies that Jesus
- 16:08Speaker 1: uses there are about counting cost.
- 16:12Speaker 1: So, then when he says likewise, you know, that last
- 16:15Speaker 1: verse or likewise, whoever you, whoever of you does not
- 16:18Speaker 1: forsake all that he has cannot be my disciples. Jesus
- 16:21Speaker 1: is not saying you have to throw down your building
- 16:24Speaker 1: plans or you have to go away from war. What
- 16:27Speaker 1: he's saying is, if you're gonna build something, it's gonna
- 16:30Speaker 1: cost something.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And I, and I don't mean money. It's gonna cost
- 16:33Speaker 1: you your time, it's gonna cost you your investment, it's
- 16:35Speaker 1: gonna cost your, you know, hey, if you can't build
- 16:38Speaker 1: two towers, you can build one. You, you, you, you
- 16:40Speaker 1: don't have the money for that. You don't have the
- 16:41Speaker 1: time for that, you don't have the resource for that. Uh,
- 16:43Speaker 1: you don't go to war. I mean, and I think
- 16:45Speaker 1: we're experiencing this right here in the United States right now.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You don't go to war without a plan to get out.
- 16:51Speaker 1: You don't go to war without clear understanding of what
- 16:54Speaker 1: it's going to cost and what it's going to take. And,
- 16:56Speaker 1: and most of our, you know, most stories of war,
- 17:00Speaker 1: and I don't mean just America, but just generally, you know,
- 17:03Speaker 1: there's two world wars that we all look back and
- 17:04Speaker 1: say we got into it with a clear purpose for
- 17:07Speaker 1: what we were there to do, and we came out
- 17:09Speaker 1: and did exactly what we want to do.
- 17:11Speaker 1: But Vietnam didn't have that same effect. We certainly don't
- 17:13Speaker 1: see that right now with Iran. We, we have questions, right?
- 17:16Speaker 1: Why are we here? What are we doing? This is
- 17:18Speaker 1: not a political rant. I'm saying there's a cost, and
- 17:21Speaker 1: if we didn't know what it was, we're confused. And
- 17:24Speaker 1: Jesus says, if you're gonna follow me, just know that
- 17:27Speaker 1: there are, it's gonna cost everything that you are and
- 17:29Speaker 1: that you have. Be ready for that, so that when
- 17:32Speaker 1: it does cost you, you're not like, Where's God? Where's
- 17:34Speaker 1: my peace? You knew it's gonna cost me.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I was gonna just make a mention to,
- 17:41Speaker 1: to just one of the question that you had, Brian,
- 17:44Speaker 1: you know, um, and, and when Phil was talking about the,
- 17:46Speaker 1: the whole thing about peace, you know, and it's like, yeah, I, I,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I totally agree it's like you don't always have this
- 17:53Speaker 1: like wonderful fluffy thing of peace that that God has
- 17:57Speaker 1: given to you. I, I think of the writer, I
- 17:59Speaker 1: think of Jeremiah, some of the, the prophets, like, you know, when,
- 18:02Speaker 1: when God had called Jeremiah to go and to be
- 18:05Speaker 1: a prophet to, to Israel, I.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I have a hard time finding anywhere where Jeremiah was like,
- 18:10Speaker 1: oh man, this looks, I'm so excited to go and
- 18:12Speaker 1: be a prophet for God. Like this was, this was horrible.
- 18:15Speaker 1: You know, he had a horrible mission. It wasn't, it
- 18:18Speaker 1: wasn't a fun mission that he had had called to do,
- 18:21Speaker 1: but he was obedient and he was faithful to what
- 18:23Speaker 1: God was calling him to do. And there was a huge,
- 18:27Speaker 1: you know, I think with that with Jeremiah, you know,
- 18:29Speaker 1: it's a huge cost for him, you know, um, to,
- 18:32Speaker 1: to go out and to, you know, be that, that
- 18:34Speaker 1: voice for, for the Lord.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Where does the idea of I have a piece about
- 18:40Speaker 1: it come from? Is there a Bible verse that people
- 18:42Speaker 1: either read or take out of context, or, or what
- 18:47Speaker 1: is it that I'm not thinking of that that people
- 18:49Speaker 1: might I don't know. I don't know. The only verse
- 18:51Speaker 1: I can think of is that, you know, the peace
- 18:52Speaker 1: of God will pass all understanding. And so it's just
- 18:55Speaker 1: like this, this confirmation like, OK, I am, this is
- 18:58Speaker 1: where the Lord has me. And so.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I think that that piece of God that passes all
- 19:03Speaker 1: understanding is like this human understanding, you know, I think
- 19:06Speaker 1: going back to even Phil's point, it's like this, there's no,
- 19:09Speaker 1: there's no understanding this side of heaven of why I
- 19:13Speaker 1: should be or where, you know, why this is happening,
- 19:16Speaker 1: but God has given me the peace that he's this
- 19:19Speaker 1: confirmation that God is leading me in, you know, in
- 19:22Speaker 1: this direction, you know, to do this. I, I've, I've
- 19:25Speaker 1: had conversations with, with people who.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You know, they, they had made decisions, um, to, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 1: get involved and, and to do the work of the ministry,
- 19:34Speaker 1: you know, and I praise God for that because God
- 19:37Speaker 1: has been using them, you know, in, in, in ministry
- 19:40Speaker 1: and they're flourishing and, and, but they like before they
- 19:45Speaker 1: were called to do the work of the ministry is
- 19:47Speaker 1: like they were in places of the world where they were,
- 19:50Speaker 1: you know, making a large amount of money, you know, um,
- 19:54Speaker 1: annually and.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Um, you know, and God gave them a, a call,
- 19:59Speaker 1: you know, and they had this piece, so it's like
- 20:01Speaker 1: this side of heaven is like, wait a minute, you're
- 20:03Speaker 1: gonna leave, you know, uh, you know, like a million
- 20:06Speaker 1: dollars a year annual job wages for to do the
- 20:12Speaker 1: work of the ministry and for many of us who
- 20:15Speaker 1: are in the work of the ministry, you know that
- 20:17Speaker 1: you're walking away from probably some buckets of money, right, um.
- 20:22Speaker 1: And people like, I don't understand this. Like why are you,
- 20:25Speaker 1: they'll get questioned. Why are you doing this? Why are
- 20:26Speaker 1: you doing this? But this is God just impressed upon
- 20:30Speaker 1: my heart. This is where I'm called to this is
- 20:32Speaker 1: what I'm called to do. It doesn't, I know it
- 20:34Speaker 1: kind of doesn't make sense this side of heaven, but
- 20:37Speaker 1: I have this piece, you know, this piece that passes understanding. So, um,
- 20:41Speaker 1: I think it's a confirmation, more, more sense, like, you know,
- 20:44Speaker 1: just in your heart that this is what the Lord
- 20:46Speaker 1: is doing. Yeah.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I was just gonna add another verse that gets thrown
- 20:50Speaker 1: into this is John 14 verse, what is it 2027,
- 20:56Speaker 1: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you,
- 20:57Speaker 1: not as the world gives, I give to you. So,
- 21:00Speaker 1: so the, you know.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So we're, nobody's wrong when we have the assumption that, hey,
- 21:05Speaker 1: Jesus promised us peace. He did. He absolutely promised us peace.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Where we get off a little bit is we think
- 21:11Speaker 1: that every circumstance, every situation, every moment, peace has to
- 21:15Speaker 1: look a certain way, right? It has to, I, I
- 21:17Speaker 1: have to feel good about it, and that's peace. When
- 21:22Speaker 1: Jesus didn't feel good about the cross, but he certainly
- 21:25Speaker 1: was walking in the peace of, of his own peace.
- 21:29Speaker 1: He was in the will of God. That's where peace lives. And, um,
- 21:33Speaker 1: and yet he was suffering tremendously. So it's just the
- 21:36Speaker 1: misguided idea that like peace means I feel good. And, uh, golly,
- 21:41Speaker 1: it just doesn't happen that way always. So that James
- 21:44Speaker 1: Brown song is not about the peace of God. I
- 21:46Speaker 1: feel good. Yeah, no, it's a good song though. Good song, yeah.
- 21:50Speaker 1: 888-564-6173 is the number to call us today here on
- 21:55Speaker 1: Pastor's Perspective. Speaking about feeling good, Charlie's got a question
- 21:59Speaker 1: kind of along that line. What is it, Charlie, in
- 22:02Speaker 1: El Paso, Texas?
- 22:06Speaker 1: Well, first of all, I'd like to thank you all
- 22:07Speaker 1: for what you do, your service. I've been listening to
- 22:10Speaker 1: you for several years now and truly enjoy you guys. Thanks, man.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Thank you. And my question is, uh, in the last
- 22:19Speaker 1: few months, I've been serving in on the worship team
- 22:23Speaker 1: at my church, and, uh, recently I've just been getting
- 22:27Speaker 1: very a big emotional, you know, charge and feeling when
- 22:32Speaker 1: I play. I some would say that's the Holy Spirit,
- 22:36Speaker 1: or is it just me getting a feeling? That's my question. Hm,
- 22:40Speaker 1: what do you say, Phil?
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I say, um,
- 22:46Speaker 1: Gosh, it could be one or the other or it
- 22:48Speaker 1: could be both, uh, boy, how does that not help
- 22:51Speaker 1: you at all? I was gonna say pastor's perspective where
- 22:54Speaker 1: we give you no good answer on that one. Yeah, well,
- 22:58Speaker 1: you know, sometimes it can be hard to separate, and, but,
- 23:01Speaker 1: but I'll try to do my best. I, and I
- 23:04Speaker 1: got to be, I used to be a worship leader, um,
- 23:06Speaker 1: I mean, I think I'm still a worship leader at
- 23:08Speaker 1: heart in the sense of I wanna lead people to worship,
- 23:10Speaker 1: but in terms of like actually leading the, the music
- 23:13Speaker 1: part of that, and you know, there were some times when, man,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I just
- 23:17Speaker 1: I just didn't um feel like it went very good.
- 23:20Speaker 1: But then you, then you go, gosh, God is moving
- 23:22Speaker 1: in people and he's still faithful, and then you go,
- 23:26Speaker 1: that's the, that's the spirit, like, or, or times when
- 23:29Speaker 1: I've not been doing well in life, but yet I'm
- 23:31Speaker 1: just able to meet God, and it didn't feel very emotional,
- 23:34Speaker 1: but I just knew I was really meeting God. Other
- 23:36Speaker 1: times where I felt super emotional,
- 23:38Speaker 1: And I wonder, am I just, is this just the,
- 23:41Speaker 1: is this the musicality that I'm feeling? Uh, you know
- 23:43Speaker 1: where it really comes down to for me, if this
- 23:45Speaker 1: is moving me closer to Jesus, I'm not worried about
- 23:48Speaker 1: whether it's my emotion or the Holy Spirit. The Holy
- 23:51Speaker 1: Spirit's working. His, his job, the Gospel of John tells
- 23:55Speaker 1: us Jesus says that the Spirit will come to lead
- 23:57Speaker 1: you and to bring us closer to Jesus. So,
- 24:00Speaker 1: I wouldn't really worry about trying to separate out, is
- 24:03Speaker 1: it just emotion? Uh, you'll know if it's just emotion,
- 24:06Speaker 1: but you have no interest in Jesus, you're not even
- 24:08Speaker 1: thinking about Him, you have no concerns about Him, yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 1: that's an emotionalism. But if the whole goal is to
- 24:13Speaker 1: move you towards Jesus and it is emotional, I think
- 24:16Speaker 1: the spirit's working. Mhm. Let me see what Charlie thinks
- 24:19Speaker 1: before we hear from Tommy.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Um, that sounds good. Thank you. All right, Tommy, well, hey,
- 24:26Speaker 1: that sounds good. Maybe not, not much to add. I
- 24:29Speaker 1: was just gonna basically share, share the same thing. I
- 24:31Speaker 1: was like, you know, if, if the focus is more
- 24:33Speaker 1: on how you feel, then, then this probably emotion, but
- 24:36Speaker 1: if the folk, you know, if the focus is more
- 24:38Speaker 1: like God-centered, you know, that, that is the Holy Spirit and.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it is kind of like that's a hard question
- 24:44Speaker 1: to ask, you know, is it the Holy Spirit or
- 24:46Speaker 1: is it me and it's moments of worship because, you know, um, I,
- 24:50Speaker 1: I think I've never been a worship leader, uh, practically
- 24:54Speaker 1: with music, um, and there was a mistake one time, um.
- 24:58Speaker 1: My microphone was left on, you know, I was up
- 25:01Speaker 1: on the platform and my microphone was left on and, uh,
- 25:04Speaker 1: the worship team was singing the song and I was, man,
- 25:08Speaker 1: I was getting into it, you know, um, and just
- 25:10Speaker 1: really singing and, and afterwards.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Someone said, hey, you know, uh, they heard the live
- 25:16Speaker 1: stream and they heard me singing and I was like,
- 25:19Speaker 1: oh wow, and they're like, yeah, you might wanna hear
- 25:21Speaker 1: it and I was like, oh no, it, it was horrible.
- 25:24Speaker 1: So but at heart like Phil at heart I'm a
- 25:27Speaker 1: worship leader. I wanna lead people to worship however, um,
- 25:31Speaker 1: in saying that.
- 25:33Speaker 1: My, my point is, like I know that there's been,
- 25:36Speaker 1: you know, the very, the day that I got saved, I,
- 25:39Speaker 1: I'll never forget the day that I got saved, the,
- 25:41Speaker 1: you know, the, the muse, the, the team, the worship team,
- 25:44Speaker 1: the praise and worship team was leading in music, and,
- 25:47Speaker 1: and that was such and again it was the Holy Spirit.
- 25:51Speaker 1: It was, I know it was God, the Holy Spirit
- 25:53Speaker 1: just moving, you know, in that moment of worship and
- 25:57Speaker 1: praise where my heart just melted before the Lord and
- 26:01Speaker 1: I could not.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Control this emotion of, um, you know, of of repentance
- 26:08Speaker 1: and of confessing my sin and just like I I
- 26:12Speaker 1: like I had this feeling. It was it really was
- 26:15Speaker 1: a feeling of like just being in this holy holy
- 26:18Speaker 1: presence of God and it was, you know, and it
- 26:21Speaker 1: and it was good, you know, and I remember, you know, my,
- 26:24Speaker 1: I was, I was weeping and crying and
- 26:26Speaker 1: You know, asking God to forgive me. So, you know,
- 26:29Speaker 1: God works in those ways and, and we have emotions.
- 26:32Speaker 1: So I think we do have to be very careful
- 26:34Speaker 1: when it comes time to like when we're in these
- 26:38Speaker 1: church services because we can be so emotionally charged that
- 26:42Speaker 1: the focus gets off of Christ, but.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Uh, there are times I do believe, not maybe not
- 26:47Speaker 1: all the time, but when the Holy Spirit is moving
- 26:50Speaker 1: it brings, you know, the glory and the, the, the
- 26:51Speaker 1: holy presence of God is, is so tangible that there
- 26:55Speaker 1: is an emotion that we, that we begin to experience
- 27:00Speaker 1: at times, you know, um, and so I would just
- 27:03Speaker 1: encourage people, don't chase after the emotion, um, chase after
- 27:06Speaker 1: the presence of God.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Phil, has your mic ever been left on when it
- 27:10Speaker 1: wasn't supposed to be?
- 27:13Speaker 1: Well, more times than I, than I could count, yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And that, that just makes you go, your sound guy
- 27:17Speaker 1: does not love you, you know, that's what it comes
- 27:19Speaker 1: down to. We had a long talk. Uh, we, we
- 27:23Speaker 1: had a long talk after that.
- 27:25Speaker 1: They were having so much fun.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Yeah, they probably were put it up on some Facebook
- 27:31Speaker 1: page or something, but, uh, Charlie, thank you so much
- 27:33Speaker 1: for calling in today on Pastor's perspective. And yeah, so much,
- 27:37Speaker 1: so often we equate emotionalism. Like if you try out
- 27:41Speaker 1: a new church or something and you don't get the feels,
- 27:44Speaker 1: you might say, oh, that church doesn't have the Holy Spirit.
- 27:47Speaker 1: There's no anointing there, not going back. There's nothing there
- 27:51Speaker 1: for me. Didn't make me cry, didn't make me come
- 27:54Speaker 1: forward at the end of the service, nothing like that.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Got to be careful.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Yeah, 100%. All right, uh, Charlie, thank you for calling
- 28:01Speaker 1: us from El Paso, Texas. All right, man, have a
- 28:04Speaker 1: great day.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Thank you. You too. All right, this is Pastor's perspective.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I'm Brian Perez. Today we've got Phil Metzger, the pastor
- 28:12Speaker 1: of Calvary San Diego, with Sunday service times at 10:00 a.m. OK,
- 28:19Speaker 1: Sunday service time at time, yeah, it's singular, singular. We,
- 28:23Speaker 1: we have one service at 1:0:00 a.m., baby, and then
- 28:26Speaker 1: he's one and done.
- 28:27Speaker 1: One and done. That's all I got, man. I'm not
- 28:29Speaker 1: cool like them other dudes. You mean like Tommy Coda?
- 28:32Speaker 1: I think Tommy's got two services, right? Yeah, well, one's
- 28:34Speaker 1: in Spanish and the other one's in English. That still
- 28:36Speaker 1: counts as too. Yeah, that is, that is true. Yeah,
- 28:38Speaker 1: 9 a.m., uh, here in Santa Ana, 9 a.m. for
- 28:41Speaker 1: Spanish service and 11:00 a.m., uh, for English Spanish. No,
- 28:45Speaker 1: it's not, not me. Um, we have someone else there. Yeah,
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm not, I'm not bilingual. I don't give him any credit.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Don't give him credit. He's doing one service. Good point, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:56Speaker 1: No, I was about to be super impressed, man. I
- 28:58Speaker 1: was about to say you got 5 services and you're
- 28:59Speaker 1: doing 2 languages, bro. Yeah, that's, that's a double up. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:03Speaker 1: So we got, we got that going on and, and
- 29:05Speaker 1: just looking forward, you know, looking forward to what the
- 29:07Speaker 1: Lord has this fall season. Can't believe August or not August, October,
- 29:11Speaker 1: October 1st, it's happening, yeah, so we got a lot
- 29:14Speaker 1: of cool things that are coming up. So looking forward
- 29:16Speaker 1: to that. I thought today was September 31st, but no,
- 29:19Speaker 1: it's October, just like that.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Give us a call 888-564-6173. Gonna take a quick break
- 29:27Speaker 1: and then we'll be back with more of the questions
- 29:29Speaker 1: that you've got for Pastors Tommy Coda and Phil Metzger
- 29:32Speaker 1: right here on Pastor's Perspective, 888-564-6173.
- 30:18Speaker 1: All right, so we've got a change of plans. I'm
- 30:21Speaker 1: gonna be teaching at Hope Alive Church this Sunday, and
- 30:23Speaker 1: Tommy's gonna host Pastor's Perspective now. Go. Welcome back to
- 30:27Speaker 1: Pastor's Perspective to the second half of the show, and
- 30:30Speaker 1: we're here with Brian Perez and Phil Metzger. He did it. Yeah,
- 30:34Speaker 1: there you go, and I'm kidding, I'm not gonna teach
- 30:35Speaker 1: at Hope Al Life.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Church doesn't and that's all I got for pastor's perspective
- 30:39Speaker 1: as a host. There it is. And you, you introduced Phil.
- 30:41Speaker 1: You introduced me. I think he did pretty good. Yeah, well,
- 30:43Speaker 1: you're the host with the most, bro. Oh boy, he is,
- 30:45Speaker 1: he is. Thank you. You're the best. Oh, all right.
- 30:49Speaker 1: And I'll bet you'd be a great Bible teacher, by
- 30:50Speaker 1: the way, Brian Pres. It might be. I don't know. Yeah,
- 30:52Speaker 1: I don't think it's my calling, but I'm sure I
- 30:54Speaker 1: could do that's different. That's different, but I'll bet you
- 30:56Speaker 1: could do a good job. Oh well, yeah, if small
- 30:59Speaker 1: group or something, I might be able to do something.
- 31:01Speaker 1: What about the phone number, Tommy?
- 31:03Speaker 1: The phone number is 888-564-6173. Call now with your question
- 31:09Speaker 1: to pastor's perspective. All right, who's next?
- 31:12Speaker 1: Tom from Ontario, California, you are next with your question. Welcome, Tom.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Uh, thank you very much. I appreciate you guys' time.
- 31:23Speaker 1: What's going on, man?
- 31:25Speaker 1: So, you know, I'm just trying to, to get the
- 31:28Speaker 1: perspective between uh Christians and Catholics. It seems like there's
- 31:33Speaker 1: uh some volatile uh questions and things. So the way
- 31:37Speaker 1: they think. I had one person, how can you be
- 31:40Speaker 1: a Christian if
- 31:41Speaker 1: The president and some of these other Christians are, are
- 31:44Speaker 1: willing to go ahead and uh uh deport and do
- 31:47Speaker 1: all these other negative things. And I, I just don't
- 31:51Speaker 1: understand it.
- 31:51Speaker 2: I just wanted to get you guys' a point of view.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I'm, I'm trying to, uh, correlate the two. So what
- 31:58Speaker 1: does that have to do with
- 32:00Speaker 1: So what side are you on? I'm trying to figure
- 32:02Speaker 1: that out.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I, I'm, I'm a Christian, and I, you know,
- 32:06Speaker 1: I don't get mad at these, at the, the Catholics,
- 32:09Speaker 1: the way they're thinking, but I'm just wondering, why is
- 32:12Speaker 1: it that uh they're, they're kind of like uh slamming the,
- 32:17Speaker 1: the Christianity and the Christians itself, the difference between uh
- 32:22Speaker 1: Catholics and, and Christians itself. I just want to get
- 32:24Speaker 1: you guys' point of view.
- 32:25Speaker 1: OK, because one side is taking more of a pro-immigrant
- 32:31Speaker 1: stance as opposed to the other side. Is that what
- 32:33Speaker 1: you mean? OK, you wanna start, Phil?
- 32:38Speaker 1: Sure, um,
- 32:41Speaker 1: Tom, I, I, this is a bit tough because I, I,
- 32:45Speaker 1: I'm still, I thank you, Brian, for getting some clarity,
- 32:48Speaker 1: but I think we're all a little bit like, I
- 32:49Speaker 1: don't get the immigration thing. I'm just gonna say that I,
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'm not, I don't know. Well, we can go back
- 32:53Speaker 1: to Tom just to get some more clarification. Yeah, that
- 32:56Speaker 1: would be great. Tom, can you explain what you mean
- 32:58Speaker 1: when you say this group thinks this about immigration? What
- 33:01Speaker 1: are we talking about?
- 33:04Speaker 1: Well, I'll, I'll, I'll give you an example. Um, again,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I had a friend of mine tell me, you're, you're
- 33:10Speaker 1: a Christian, yet your, uh, religion, and the way he
- 33:15Speaker 1: said it, your religion is, uh,
- 33:18Speaker 1: Supporting uh the people that are being deported, supporting the
- 33:22Speaker 1: people that are getting beat up and things like that.
- 33:25Speaker 1: And I, I didn't feel good about that. I said, no,
- 33:27Speaker 1: I don't know where you're coming from with that. uh,
- 33:30Speaker 1: and he just said, well, you know, Catholics are, are supporting, uh,
- 33:34Speaker 1: you know, the, the people that want to be here
- 33:36Speaker 1: and that should be here and so on and so forth.
- 33:39Speaker 1: So that just kind of bothered me how, how that
- 33:41Speaker 1: came out.
- 33:43Speaker 1: All right, that, that helps. Uh, yeah, I think that helped, um,
- 33:47Speaker 1: because the, the question of like what's the difference between
- 33:49Speaker 1: Catholics and Christians, uh, is very different with, with what
- 33:53Speaker 1: you're talking about. I, I would maybe say that the
- 33:56Speaker 1: person who you're speaking with doesn't, maybe they're born Catholic,
- 34:00Speaker 1: but maybe they're not like practicing, um.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Christianity does not support any one particular political party. That's not,
- 34:10Speaker 1: Christianity has existed far before any of these political parties, before, uh,
- 34:14Speaker 1: any of these systems. So, you can't associate it with that. Now,
- 34:18Speaker 1: what you can do is you can say, OK, what,
- 34:21Speaker 1: what thing, what party, what position is probably the best
- 34:25Speaker 1: way to say that. What position.
- 34:27Speaker 1: is most aligned to my Christian faith. It's the other
- 34:30Speaker 1: way around, right? So you're like, what, what position is
- 34:33Speaker 1: most aligned to my Christianity? So if somebody's saying to you, hey,
- 34:37Speaker 1: you Christians are against immigration and you're against, I, I
- 34:40Speaker 1: would say they're mixing up um Americanism with the gospel.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Those two things are not meant to be in the
- 34:46Speaker 1: same category. There's many Christians who have very different views.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Than that one that was described by your friend. That's
- 34:54Speaker 1: not a difference between Catholic or Christian at all. That's
- 34:57Speaker 1: a difference between America as a, as a, uh, a
- 35:02Speaker 1: version of religion versus like actual Christianity. And there's plenty
- 35:07Speaker 1: of actual Christians who are very supportive of immigration and
- 35:11Speaker 1: immigrants and the, and people who are suffering.
- 35:13Speaker 1: And there's also very many born again Christians who say, no,
- 35:16Speaker 1: we really think this is important. My point is, that's
- 35:20Speaker 1: not a defining line of Christianity at all. That's what
- 35:23Speaker 1: the media is pushing, and that's a kind of a
- 35:26Speaker 1: Christian nationalistic view, that's not Christianity. Tommy, yeah, no, I
- 35:31Speaker 1: was gonna say the same thing as far as like
- 35:32Speaker 1: this kind of this point of view, um.
- 35:35Speaker 1: You know, getting to be uh very active, uh, and
- 35:39Speaker 1: doing ministry in the city of Santa Ana, there's a,
- 35:42Speaker 1: there is a large community of Catholicism, you know, it's
- 35:47Speaker 1: very dominant and
- 35:48Speaker 1: Um, and I, I've come across the exact same thing, Tom, where, where, uh,
- 35:53Speaker 1: they would say, well, Christians, you know, they support, you know,
- 35:56Speaker 1: Christians are the ones that support ICEE and Catholics don't
- 36:00Speaker 1: support ICE. I'm like, well, where is that in the Bible,
- 36:03Speaker 1: you know, and this is, there's nothing in the Bible
- 36:05Speaker 1: biblically that, that says that, you know, and, and so
- 36:09Speaker 1: the whole thing with, with Christianity, I, I think.
- 36:11Speaker 1: You know, the, the biggest thing is, is, uh, for
- 36:14Speaker 1: us as Christians, you know, at least for here at
- 36:16Speaker 1: Hope of Life Church, you know, our, our, our desire
- 36:19Speaker 1: is to, um, to live our life, you know, according
- 36:23Speaker 1: to what the, what the Bible says, and, and to teach,
- 36:26Speaker 1: you know, um, to teach the word of God systematically
- 36:29Speaker 1: and get to know who Jesus is and who, who
- 36:33Speaker 1: God is through, through the Bible and through the teaching
- 36:36Speaker 1: of the word of God and to live that out.
- 36:38Speaker 1: You know, and so I think sometimes when you look
- 36:40Speaker 1: at even some biblical principles, you know, there's gonna be
- 36:44Speaker 1: a lot of times where there's, you know, um, maybe some,
- 36:48Speaker 1: some progressive ideas and then very conservative ideas, you know,
- 36:52Speaker 1: so you can't, and so the Bible kind of like
- 36:54Speaker 1: talks to both of these points, but it is not
- 36:59Speaker 1: saying or it doesn't lead us to one political ideology
- 37:03Speaker 1: or the next, and it, and it, it should not either.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Tom, thanks for your question today here on Pastor's Perspective
- 37:10Speaker 1: at 888-564-6173. Got about 20 minutes left, so you can
- 37:15Speaker 1: still call in. Let's talk to Joan in Aliso Viejo,
- 37:19Speaker 1: listening to K Wave. Hello, Joan.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Oh thank you. Um, my question is about tithing. I,
- 37:27Speaker 2: I was listening recently to you and I heard someone, um,
- 37:33Speaker 2: say that tithing is not.
- 37:36Speaker 2: In the New Testament it's not required of a person
- 37:39Speaker 2: in the New Testament, and I, I've heard conflicting things
- 37:44Speaker 2: about tithing, but in Matthew 20:23, um, where Jesus talks about,
- 37:52Speaker 2: you know, you strain out a net gnat and let
- 37:55Speaker 2: a camel pass through, and he's saying, um, you tithe
- 37:59Speaker 2: your mint and cumin and dill.
- 38:02Speaker 2: You know, you do all these things meticulously, but you've
- 38:05Speaker 2: neglected justice and mercy and
- 38:09Speaker 2: Something else because I'm not reading it faithfulness.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Faithfulness. Yes, OK, and you ought to have done.
- 38:20Speaker 2: You, you ought to have done the weightier ones that
- 38:24Speaker 2: he's saying, the, the latter and not neglected the former.
- 38:29Speaker 2: And when he says, and, and not neglect the former,
- 38:33Speaker 2: which was the tithing of the mint and the dill
- 38:35Speaker 2: and the cumin tithing, so I feel like that is
- 38:39Speaker 2: a New Testament verse where Jesus affirms tithing, even though,
- 38:45Speaker 2: even though the verse is actually, you know, really about
- 38:48Speaker 2: something else weightier than what I'm pointing it I feel
- 38:54Speaker 2: like that is a New Testament verse.
- 38:57Speaker 2: That affirms tithing, and I just wondered what the pastor
- 39:00Speaker 2: say about tithing.
- 39:02Speaker 1: I
- 39:02Speaker 1: see what you're saying because, uh, it's not saying you
- 39:05Speaker 1: don't have to tithe anymore. That particular verse isn't saying
- 39:07Speaker 1: you don't have to tithe anymore. It's in fact saying
- 39:10Speaker 1: don't neglect.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Don't neglect it, yeah, neglect
- 39:13Speaker 2: it.
- 39:14Speaker 1: So Tommy, what say you? Yeah, well, here what Jesus
- 39:17Speaker 1: is doing is, is he's really, he's addressing the Pharisees
- 39:21Speaker 1: and the scribes and, and, um, and the Pharisees, you know,
- 39:24Speaker 1: these religious leaders, they were.
- 39:26Speaker 1: They were out to get Jesus, you know, and they weren't,
- 39:30Speaker 1: they weren't friends of Jesus at all and, and so
- 39:33Speaker 1: what Jesus is doing, he's pointing out a practice that
- 39:36Speaker 1: they have been doing. It wasn't something that they just
- 39:39Speaker 1: started doing, but something that they have just started, uh,
- 39:43Speaker 1: that they have been doing, excuse me.
- 39:44Speaker 1: You know, and, and so he's just pointing out their
- 39:47Speaker 1: flaws of like, hey, you, you, you're, you're straining all
- 39:50Speaker 1: these things out, but you're forgetting the most important thing
- 39:54Speaker 1: and really what Jesus is pointing out is like the
- 39:57Speaker 1: intention of the heart, you know, the, the, the justice
- 40:00Speaker 1: and the faithfulness and, and what was, uh, what was
- 40:03Speaker 1: the other thing there, um, mercy.
- 40:05Speaker 1: You know, so he's, what that's what Jesus is pointing out.
- 40:08Speaker 1: And so when I, I think when we look into
- 40:10Speaker 1: the New Testament because Jesus is a fulfillment of the
- 40:13Speaker 1: law and, and giving, you know, the, the tithe, um, was,
- 40:18Speaker 1: was something, you know, according to the law, and, and
- 40:21Speaker 1: Jesus fulfilling that law, and I think, you know, a better,
- 40:24Speaker 1: a really good text that kind of highlights this is
- 40:27Speaker 1: the apostle Paul in, in 2 Corinthians and, and it's
- 40:30Speaker 1: there in chapter number 9.
- 40:33Speaker 1: And he says each one must give as he has
- 40:36Speaker 1: decided in his heart again, so I think there's, there's
- 40:38Speaker 1: the issue like it's, it's, it's what's coming from the heart,
- 40:42Speaker 1: not reluctant to give not reluctantly or under compulsion for
- 40:46Speaker 1: God loves a cheerful giver and, and so really what
- 40:51Speaker 1: even with Jesus and, and, and Matthew and chapter number
- 40:54Speaker 1: 23 and, and other passages that we see, you know, here.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Like in in 2 Corinthians chapter number 9, the, the
- 41:01Speaker 1: issue is the heart, you know, what are we giving
- 41:03Speaker 1: from the heart? And I think there's even another place
- 41:05Speaker 1: where Jesus is pointing out, um, the, the, the widow,
- 41:09Speaker 1: you know, when they're all going and they're giving their tithe,
- 41:12Speaker 1: they're giving.
- 41:13Speaker 1: There and everyone is giving from their abundance, you know,
- 41:17Speaker 1: and Jesus points out the one widow who goes with
- 41:21Speaker 1: her little mite, you know, it's like her, her little
- 41:24Speaker 1: nickel that she has, you know, that's all she's got,
- 41:27Speaker 1: and she gives, and Jesus brings attention to her, to
- 41:30Speaker 1: the disciples, you know, and says she gave all that
- 41:34Speaker 1: she had, like she gave sacrifice, she gave from her heart,
- 41:37Speaker 1: you know, and so, and that's the point that Jesus
- 41:40Speaker 1: is making there, I believe.
- 41:43Speaker 1: What do you think, Joan, before we go to Phil?
- 41:46Speaker 2: Um, I'm, I'm rapidly listening and I appreciate the answers.
- 41:52Speaker 1: OK, Phil,
- 41:54Speaker 1: Well, I was rapidly listening too. It's a great answer. Um,
- 41:56Speaker 1: there's a, there's another verse I'd give to you, Joan. I,
- 41:59Speaker 1: I think, by the way, let me clarify, I, I
- 42:01Speaker 1: do believe the New Testament teaches the importance of generosity
- 42:05Speaker 1: and giving. When we try to connect that to a
- 42:08Speaker 1: mandated 10% tithing, as in the Old Testament, it gets
- 42:12Speaker 1: a little trickier. There's some pastors who do believe that
- 42:14Speaker 1: that's still the case. I am one who believes that
- 42:17Speaker 1: there's nothing wrong with, um,
- 42:19Speaker 1: Giving people like a sense of what that could look like. So,
- 42:22Speaker 1: to say, hey, you know, and the idea of tithe
- 42:25Speaker 1: is just means 10th. It means literally means a 10th.
- 42:29Speaker 1: And so, the New Testament doesn't teach to give a 10th,
- 42:32Speaker 1: it actually says that we should be, as, as Tommy
- 42:34Speaker 1: pointed out, cheerful givers. We should be, uh, giving in proportion.
- 42:38Speaker 1: 1 Corinthians 16:2, uh, we should be storing up and
- 42:42Speaker 1: we should be giving. There should be a consistency to
- 42:44Speaker 1: our giving. We're not just like, um,
- 42:47Speaker 1: Emotional givers as New Testament Christians that are like, oh
- 42:50Speaker 1: my gosh, I, I, I haven't given in a while
- 42:52Speaker 1: and I need to give. It's like, no, we wanna
- 42:54Speaker 1: be consistent, we wanna be thoughtful, um, we should be
- 42:57Speaker 1: generous in our giving, uh, but we don't have a
- 43:02Speaker 1: tax that we're paying like the Jews did in the
- 43:04Speaker 1: Old Testament. We don't have a temple that we're keeping
- 43:06Speaker 1: up as a part of our national system. Um, we're
- 43:09Speaker 1: already paying that to the IRS. That's not required by God,
- 43:13Speaker 1: but what is, um, expected of us is just a, a, a, a.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Cheerful generosity.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Joan, thanks for your phone call today here on Pastor's Perspective.
- 43:23Speaker 1: She wanted to know about Matthew 23, and here's Tanner
- 43:27Speaker 1: with a question on the following page. Matthew 24. Go ahead, Tanner,
- 43:31Speaker 1: and Temecula, thanks for calling.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Hi, can you hear me? Yeah.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Awesome awesome. So yeah, my question is about, uh, it's
- 43:40Speaker 1: an eschatology question preacher rapture pusher. So Matthew 24:29 says
- 43:46Speaker 1: after the tribulation, after the great tribulation, then you'll see
- 43:51Speaker 1: kind of, you know, coming on the clouds of glory, um,
- 43:54Speaker 1: you know, so after the tribulation, but then the parallel.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Passage to to Matthew 24 would be the Mark 13, same,
- 44:03Speaker 1: same account. The only difference in Mark in verse 37,
- 44:06Speaker 1: the little detail is he says in verse 37 in this,
- 44:11Speaker 1: I say to all, which, you know, I'm a Calvary
- 44:16Speaker 1: Chapel guy, and in class we were always taught that
- 44:18Speaker 1: Matthew 24 was only applicable to the Jews and so
- 44:22Speaker 1: with the Mark 13, you know.
- 44:25Speaker 1: 1337, it's saying, I say to all.
- 44:28Speaker 1: So the question is based off those two scriptures in
- 44:32Speaker 1: Matthew it's saying after the tribulation Jesus, or, you know,
- 44:36Speaker 1: namely the rapture is happening after the tribulation.
- 44:39Speaker 1: And then Mark parallel passage, everything's the same just besides
- 44:44Speaker 1: the detail in verse 37 and this I say to all,
- 44:48Speaker 1: so maybe not just saying it to the Jews. So
- 44:51Speaker 1: that's my question. How do, how do we clear that up?
- 44:53Speaker 1: Thank you. All right, Phil.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Uh, good job, Tanner. We, you, you got that question
- 44:59Speaker 1: out really well, really clear. Um, I would, well, I, I,
- 45:02Speaker 1: first I would caution, I love what you said there
- 45:04Speaker 1: as a Calvary guy, you know, you're like, when I
- 45:06Speaker 1: hear the word all, we know it means all, but actually,
- 45:08Speaker 1: we never know if it always means all. We gotta,
- 45:10Speaker 1: we gotta take its context. Like, for instance, in this context, when, when,
- 45:14Speaker 1: when Jesus says, and what I say to you, I
- 45:16Speaker 1: say to all, you, you can't say that that means
- 45:19Speaker 1: to all of all generations of all times.
- 45:21Speaker 1: It's a little bit more uh expressive of, hey, what
- 45:25Speaker 1: I'm saying to those of you in front of me,
- 45:27Speaker 1: I'm saying to everybody right now, that doesn't necessarily immediately
- 45:31Speaker 1: mean of every generation of every time. That's the first thing.
- 45:34Speaker 1: The second thing I would say, you know, it.
- 45:37Speaker 1: I mean, listen, you, you're not gonna, um, Tommy and
- 45:40Speaker 1: I might be, uh, different, and I don't mean him
- 45:43Speaker 1: and I different, but like we might have a softer
- 45:45Speaker 1: approach than others would have, where we recognize, and I think,
- 45:49Speaker 1: you know, Matthew's Gospel, Mark's Gospel, uh, the scriptures can
- 45:52Speaker 1: give you a sense in which like, for some of us,
- 45:55Speaker 1: we're like, yeah, we see pretty thoroughly a pre-tribulation.
- 45:59Speaker 1: rapture of the church. Others read some of these, and
- 46:02Speaker 1: there's verses like this, and you go, oh, that seems
- 46:05Speaker 1: to point more towards maybe a post-tribulational perspective. And right away,
- 46:09Speaker 1: and I, I think I speak for you, Tommy, when
- 46:11Speaker 1: I say this, though, you can correct me if I'm,
- 46:12Speaker 1: if I'm not, we're not interested in a fight with
- 46:15Speaker 1: nobody over those things. Uh, we love a good debate
- 46:18Speaker 1: and conversation on it because it's fun and because it,
- 46:21Speaker 1: it stirs.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Us on to good works, uh, in Christ, but in
- 46:25Speaker 1: terms of like, oh, you, that's wrong, you're unbiblical, we
- 46:29Speaker 1: just don't take that approach. We, we think that there's
- 46:31Speaker 1: really godly people who have a very different view on
- 46:35Speaker 1: eschatology than we do. Now, if I could say one
- 46:37Speaker 1: more thing and then tell me, you can tell me, no,
- 46:39Speaker 1: I disagree and, uh, I hate post-ribbers. No, um, just kidding. Uh,
- 46:45Speaker 1: I would also say that, um, the passage just before
- 46:48Speaker 1: Jesus says, and what I say to you, I say
- 46:50Speaker 1: to all.
- 46:52Speaker 1: he's telling us that nobody knows the day or the hour.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Some of the problem that we have when we try
- 46:56Speaker 1: to read eschatological passages is we try to timeline everything
- 47:00Speaker 1: from the time that Jesus starts talking to the very
- 47:03Speaker 1: end of it, we assume it all follows this perfect timeline.
- 47:06Speaker 1: And the truth of the matter, it's not how they,
- 47:08Speaker 1: that's not how they spoke back then. They weren't thinking
- 47:10Speaker 1: in movie scripts like we do today.
- 47:13Speaker 1: You start something and then the end is the end.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Sometimes it was more circular, a little bit more topical,
- 47:18Speaker 1: a little bit more, uh, thematical, and so, um, we
- 47:23Speaker 1: have to be careful when we try to pin the
- 47:25Speaker 1: words of Jesus here as he started at this point
- 47:28Speaker 1: and then he ended here, and look at what he
- 47:29Speaker 1: says at the end, therefore it must mean this particular view. So, OK, Tommy,
- 47:34Speaker 1: correct it all, dude, get it. No, that was, that
- 47:37Speaker 1: was great, yes, and, and I think I love the
- 47:39Speaker 1: fact that you brought up, you know, just the, the different.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Uh, positions when it comes to eschatology, you know, whether
- 47:45Speaker 1: it be pre-tribulation, a mid-tribulation, post-tribulation, and I, I believe,
- 47:49Speaker 1: you know, even in this, this passage in, in Matthew
- 47:52Speaker 1: chapter number 24 there verse 29, that that's a, that's
- 47:56Speaker 1: a passage that, that many kind of, that's where they
- 47:59Speaker 1: camp or, or they rest, you know, in, in regards
- 48:01Speaker 1: to like a post-tribulation.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Um, and that's, and that is fine because there's a
- 48:05Speaker 1: lot of great pastors and, and Bible teachers that, that,
- 48:09Speaker 1: you know, that's their position. However, these aren't things to where, um, we,
- 48:14Speaker 1: we really should find a divide over, you know, and
- 48:18Speaker 1: I think there's gonna be, um, a moment, you know,
- 48:21Speaker 1: when we are all one day we will all be
- 48:24Speaker 1: there in heaven together and we're gonna understand, you know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: we're gonna all we have all knowledge and we'll, we'll
- 48:31Speaker 1: know like, OK.
- 48:32Speaker 1: And I think at that moment it won't even matter.
- 48:34Speaker 1: It's like we made it. We're here, you know. So yeah, anyways, yeah,
- 48:38Speaker 1: that was good. Loved it, Phil. Yes, Phil, I need
- 48:41Speaker 1: you to clarify the all means all comment because I
- 48:45Speaker 1: think half the audience listening was like, what do you
- 48:47Speaker 1: mean all doesn't always mean all? because I was taught
- 48:49Speaker 1: that too, right? OK. What I, what I meant is
- 48:52Speaker 1: it certainly means all, but like when we, when we
- 48:54Speaker 1: take the word all like here.
- 48:57Speaker 1: You, you have to have the context of what Jesus
- 48:59Speaker 1: saying all of all the people in that place, in
- 49:03Speaker 1: that area, in that time, is he saying it's for
- 49:06Speaker 1: all generations? Do we have the clarity to prove that
- 49:09Speaker 1: just because he used the word all, that it means, hey,
- 49:11Speaker 1: Tommy Code, that means you right here, you know, now,
- 49:16Speaker 1: do I believe that the Bible, the New Testament calls
- 49:18Speaker 1: us to watch, to be.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Ready to be looking, to be anticipating, but there's just
- 49:23Speaker 1: times in the New Testament you have to understand, and
- 49:25Speaker 1: in the Old Testament where it'll say the word all
- 49:27Speaker 1: actually means all for all those people right there. It's not,
- 49:31Speaker 1: it's not an all for all. It's like the context
- 49:33Speaker 1: will really tell you, right? Exactly. But are we called
- 49:37Speaker 1: to watch as God's people? Absolutely. And there's multiple passages
- 49:40Speaker 1: that tell us that, not just right there.
- 49:42Speaker 1: There's multiple passages that say, be ready, be watchful, because,
- 49:46Speaker 1: you know, it's about time. So, when I, I, I
- 49:49Speaker 1: guess I'm, I, I hope I don't confuse people when
- 49:51Speaker 1: I say that all means all, but the question always is, is,
- 49:54Speaker 1: who is the all that they're talking about? For God
- 49:58Speaker 1: so loved the world is a very clear one. Now
- 50:01Speaker 1: we know we're talking about all people of all time.
- 50:05Speaker 1: All of you listen to me right now. Well, I
- 50:07Speaker 1: can't mean the whole world because not everybody's listening to K-wave.
- 50:10Speaker 1: They should be, but not all people are listening to.
- 50:13Speaker 1: But I, when I say that at church, I need
- 50:15Speaker 1: all of you to hear me right now. I don't
- 50:16Speaker 1: mean all people of all time. I mean everybody that's
- 50:19Speaker 1: in that room at that moment. Does that make sense? Yeah.
- 50:23Speaker 1: All right, Tanner, thanks for your phone call. Mario in
- 50:26Speaker 1: Los Angeles. Welcome to Pastor's Perspective. Thanks for calling 888-564-6173.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Hello. Hi, Mario.
- 50:36Speaker 1: I, am I life? Yeah, what's your question, man? All
- 50:39Speaker 1: the way live.
- 50:42Speaker 1: So, uh, I generally flick through your show just now
- 50:46Speaker 1: for the first time ever and been listening for like
- 50:48Speaker 1: the last hour. So how'd you find out about it?
- 50:51Speaker 1: It's very interesting. You were just flipping around on the radio. No, just, no,
- 50:54Speaker 1: just by chance, um, it, um, and I had a question.
- 51:00Speaker 1: About Jesus. Um, so, me, myself, I wouldn't say I'm
- 51:05Speaker 1: the most devoted Christian or serious Christian throughout my life. Um,
- 51:10Speaker 1: I'm 28 now.
- 51:12Speaker 1: And I've been going through a lot in my life,
- 51:15Speaker 1: a lot of hardships, personal stuff, nothing too crazy. I,
- 51:19Speaker 1: I say I'm blessed.
- 51:21Speaker 1: I do believe in God. I do feel like he
- 51:23Speaker 1: is fair, but he does put us through a lot.
- 51:27Speaker 1: And I'm trying to lean towards a religion. I'm pretty
- 51:31Speaker 1: open to things. I even explored Islam a little bit,
- 51:36Speaker 1: trying to like find out about it and what it's about.
- 51:39Speaker 1: I'm
- 51:39Speaker 2: way
- 51:40Speaker 1: more catered towards Christianity, Jesus.
- 51:42Speaker 2: I'm more fond of it, more
- 51:43Speaker 1: familiar with it.
- 51:45Speaker 1: My main question, uh,
- 51:46Speaker 2: my
- 51:46Speaker 1: main
- 51:46Speaker 2: issue I have
- 51:48Speaker 1: is with Jesus.
- 51:49Speaker 2: I love
- 51:49Speaker 1: Jesus, the idea of him, all the stories in the Bible,
- 51:53Speaker 1: everything about him
- 51:54Speaker 2: seems great,
- 51:55Speaker 1: but
- 51:56Speaker 1: The credibility is where I
- 51:57Speaker 2: struggle
- 51:58Speaker 1: with, uh, was he really like
- 52:02Speaker 2: Uh,
- 52:03Speaker 2: beyond human entity that God sent,
- 52:08Speaker 1: was he
- 52:08Speaker 2: just a very illuminated human?
- 52:11Speaker 1: I like to believe that disciples and all those people
- 52:13Speaker 1: were just very smart people that people were like, damn,
- 52:15Speaker 1: they can't, where else are they getting all this?
- 52:18Speaker 1: Enlightenment from, it has to be from God. Was Jesus
- 52:21Speaker 1: just a human who was extremely enlightened and people just
- 52:25Speaker 1: made a big fuss about, or was he really God
- 52:29Speaker 1: coming in the shape of, you know, in some type
- 52:31Speaker 1: of physical form here, and was that really just the
- 52:35Speaker 1: one time? Like why did he only come once in
- 52:37Speaker 1: all of history and he actually did like God, cause
- 52:41Speaker 1: we're always waiting for God, some type of sign, some
- 52:43Speaker 1: type of huge thing to event.
- 52:46Speaker 1: And um I also, that's also what it makes me
- 52:48Speaker 1: think that's why is there so many religions? Why doesn't
- 52:50Speaker 1: everyone follow Jesus? If he was actually the one sent
- 52:54Speaker 1: by God with superhuman powers, god-like powers, he was God personified.
- 53:00Speaker 1: He wasn't a human, really. He was more than that.
- 53:03Speaker 1: But was he really? Why was it that just then,
- 53:07Speaker 1: in that specific point in time,
- 53:09Speaker 1: OK, so Mario, I have to interrupt you only because
- 53:11Speaker 1: the show's almost over and we're gonna try to answer
- 53:14Speaker 1: as many of those questions as we can in the
- 53:16Speaker 1: next 2.5 minutes. And if you still have questions, please
- 53:19Speaker 1: call us back tomorrow. We'll be here between 3 and 4.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Call closer to the beginning of the show and, and
- 53:24Speaker 1: we'll put you on sooner. But Tommy, we'll start with you.
- 53:26Speaker 1: You know, Mario, uh, first of all, man, great, great question,
- 53:29Speaker 1: and I just wanna say, man, I, I think the
- 53:31Speaker 1: fact that one of the biggest things is that you
- 53:34Speaker 1: just scrolling or just happened to come across this is
- 53:38Speaker 1: the Lord, like God is leading you, you know, here
- 53:41Speaker 1: to this, to this, uh, radio station right now to,
- 53:44Speaker 1: to ask this kind of a question, and I would say,
- 53:47Speaker 1: you know, to answer your question as far as, you know, God,
- 53:49Speaker 1: you know, Jesus being human and, and God and deity, yes,
- 53:52Speaker 1: like he was fully human.
- 53:54Speaker 1: And fully God that this, this is what the Bible
- 53:58Speaker 1: teaches us, you know, and he was here and he did,
- 54:02Speaker 1: you know, have a miraculous birth that was prophesized, you know,
- 54:06Speaker 1: that he would come in, he would be born of
- 54:08Speaker 1: a virgin, and that prophecy was fulfilled. It was, you know,
- 54:11Speaker 1: it was fulfilled that for him to live a.
- 54:14Speaker 1: life that was fulfilled. It was fulfilled for him to die, uh,
- 54:18Speaker 1: on a cross for our sins. So Jesus, you know,
- 54:21Speaker 1: fulfilled all these prophetical passages that we read about in
- 54:24Speaker 1: the scriptures, and he rose again from the dead. Not
- 54:28Speaker 1: only did he die for the sin of the whole world,
- 54:30Speaker 1: but he rose again from the dead three days later
- 54:32Speaker 1: and again.
- 54:33Speaker 1: You know, fulfilling the prophetical word that we find in
- 54:37Speaker 1: the scriptures, you know, and, and, and here's the thing
- 54:40Speaker 1: is that Jesus is coming back, you know, um, that's
- 54:43Speaker 1: it again, those are, these are prophetic prophetical passages about
- 54:48Speaker 1: his return, and he will return one day and
- 54:51Speaker 1: And in regards to his disciples, you know, the, the guy,
- 54:55Speaker 1: the people that God had called, you know, they weren't,
- 54:58Speaker 1: they weren't mighty men, they weren't men of, of great
- 55:01Speaker 1: wisdom or any they were fishermen, you know, and, um,
- 55:05Speaker 1: and they were just like normal, normal guys whose lives
- 55:08Speaker 1: were transformed and got to see Jesus, you know, and
- 55:12Speaker 1: so I'm glad that you called that is who Jesus
- 55:15Speaker 1: is he loves you and I would encourage you, you know,
- 55:18Speaker 1: to give your heart over to the Lord fully and completely.
- 55:22Speaker 1: I would echo what Tommy said. It is not coincidence.
- 55:25Speaker 1: It's not perchance that you stumbled upon K wave 107.9
- 55:30Speaker 1: or maybe K wave 11:10 on the a.m. dial.
- 55:32Speaker 1: Um, keep listening. Hope he calls back. I hope you
- 55:36Speaker 1: do call back, Mario. We'll be here tomorrow between 3
- 55:38Speaker 1: and 4, but in the next 23 hours, just keep
- 55:41Speaker 1: it locked on this radio station. For one thing, tonight
- 55:44Speaker 1: at 8 o'clock, we're gonna replay today's episode, but, uh,
- 55:48Speaker 1: we've just got a lot of great Bible teaching that
- 55:50Speaker 1: will probably answer a lot of the questions that you have.
- 55:52Speaker 1: And if not, call us back tomorrow. God bless you all.
- 55:55Speaker 1: We're out of time today. Thank you, Phil. Thank you, Tommy.
- 55:59Speaker 1: Talk to you next time on Pastor's Perspective.
