After 20 years at Ball State University and over a thousand syndicated newspaper columns, Professor Michael Hicks is retiring — but not before leaving a legacy of challenging thought and intellectual rigor. He admits he’s held back younger colleagues and reflects on past misjudgments, including being too soft on the Federal Reserve and criticizing state tax incentives. Grateful for his time in Muncie, where his family thrived thanks to community support, Hicks is moving to Shenandoah University to lead its business school and hold an endowed chair in economics.
