• 0:05
Speaker 1: All right, it's day three of March Madness, and today.
• 0:10
Speaker 2: The locals are off.
• 0:11
Speaker 1: Saint John's is off. They did have a nice blowout
• 0:13
Speaker 1: win yesterday, but that's tomorrow. I want to make a
• 0:18
Speaker 1: bold thought here, what of number nine TCU takes out Duke.
• 0:23
Speaker 3: That's my prediction, but.
• 0:25
Speaker 2: We'll see what happens.
• 0:26
Speaker 1: I want to continue right now the conversation with Lutermanilo
• 0:31
Speaker 1: and Ryan Pagano on Terminelo's take, recorded on March nineteenth,
• 0:37
Speaker 1: the very first day of the Round of sixty four.
• 0:40
Speaker 1: You know about the hard word, and I'm thinking about
• 0:42
Speaker 1: the classic hardwood in the Boston Garden because to switch topics.
• 0:45
Speaker 4: Real quick, Yeah, the parque floor, Yeah, the park floor.
• 0:48
Speaker 4: And I'm like, Jason Tatum's back now.
• 0:50
Speaker 1: I Watchwitch Gears for a second, ten months out and
• 0:53
Speaker 1: he looks like he's back, like playing regular season for him?
• 0:56
Speaker 1: What a recovery is? This technology is a science? Like
• 0:58
Speaker 1: how did he get the healthy so fast?
• 1:01
Speaker 2: I guess doctor Martin McNally, excuse me, Martin O'Malley. Doctor
• 1:05
Speaker 2: Martin O'Malley at Hospitals with Special Surgery did his surgery.
• 1:09
Speaker 2: He did the same surgery that they did on Aaron Rodgers.
• 1:13
Speaker 2: That speeds up recovery, and apparently I guess that that
• 1:19
  Speaker 2: helps speed up.
• 1:19
Speaker 1: Recovery, like you got like a triple double I think,
• 1:21
Speaker 1: or something like that in his first couple of games
• 1:23
  Speaker 1: in I'm.
• 1:23
Speaker 5: Like this, that really looks like he came back with
• 1:26
Speaker 5: the bang and really having the mob of mentality, especially
• 1:28
Speaker 5: because he talks a lot about the lay great Kobe Bryant.
• 1:32
Speaker 5: And I mean Kobe he tore his achilles, I believe
• 1:35
Speaker 5: in very late in the twelve thirteen season. I believe
• 1:37
Speaker 5: it only took him like eight months or something like
• 1:39
Speaker 5: that to come back to the court afterwards.
• 1:40
Speaker 4: So I mean, he's really having that mob of mentality
• 1:43
Speaker 4: in more ways than one.
• 1:44
Speaker 5: But I also to just to break apart from the
• 1:48
Speaker 5: Kobe talk, it really also goes to show just how
• 1:51
Speaker 5: advanced sports medicine has become. Now you know, Saint Tatum
• 1:55
Speaker 5: returned to the court after all this time, and I
• 1:58
Speaker 5: mean no disrespect to Tyre's Halliburn, of course, but you
• 2:00
Speaker 5: see him Taror's achilles and Game seven of the finals,
• 2:03
Speaker 5: and you know, you know, I have my own thoughts
• 2:05
Speaker 5: about him ending the next season last year, but.
• 2:09
Speaker 4: The way he made that shot was so unbelievable. How that.
• 2:11
Speaker 5: But then the fact that he's sitting out the entire
• 2:14
Speaker 5: he can't even come back for the entire twenty five
• 2:16
Speaker 5: twenty six season. Not that the Pacers are really in
• 2:18
Speaker 5: a great spot themselves, but till the fact he's not
• 2:20
Speaker 5: even playing regular season ball. I mean, that's just my final.
• 2:26
Speaker 1: My friend went to the Pacers game the other night.
• 2:28
Speaker 1: She's a huge Knick fan. She went out to the game.
• 2:31
Speaker 3: I helped play and pay for it. I hope somebody
• 2:34
Speaker 3: gave her the tickets.
• 2:35
Speaker 1: She She's like, yeah, well, no she got invited. But
• 2:37
Speaker 1: she's like, the didn't even play Brunson. And I'm like,
• 2:40
  Speaker 1: I get it. I get I get to I get
• 2:44
Speaker 1: Indiana stinks this year, right, and I get their lower team.
• 2:47
Speaker 1: But if I'm the Knicks, I want to get my
• 2:49
Speaker 1: frustration out on that team for what they did to
• 2:51
  Speaker 1: us last year.
• 2:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, but none of those guy, none of those guys.
• 2:54
Speaker 2: Who were playing the other night were or part of
• 2:57
Speaker 2: the Pacers beating them last year. Most of those guys
• 3:01
Speaker 2: all the key guys, you know.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: And by the way, we might have a game changer
• 3:07
Speaker 1: as much march Man as college ball right now. The
• 3:10
Speaker 1: focus is what did the Pistons do k Cunningham out
• 3:14
Speaker 1: extended period of time with a collapse lung guy. That
• 3:18
Speaker 1: might change the dynamic of the Eastern Conference, right, no.
• 3:22
  Speaker 4: Doubt about it.
• 3:23
Speaker 3: I mean we talked about it a couple of weeks ago.
• 3:27
Speaker 2: I'm not sure about the Pistons even before the injury
• 3:31
Speaker 2: today because they don't have a second scoring option. Now
• 3:35
Speaker 2: without Cunningham, they don't have a first scoring option. And
• 3:39
Speaker 2: they're still an experience. Remember two years ago they were
• 3:42
Speaker 2: fourteen and sixty eight. So this is not like a
• 3:45
  Speaker 2: jugger not this.
• 3:46
Speaker 4: Is still They gave the Nicks a bit of a
• 3:48
  Speaker 4: challenge last year.
• 3:48
Speaker 3: But if they didn't, oh they did.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: If the Knicks didn't win that series, Thibodeau would have
• 3:53
Speaker 1: been fired regardless, I think.
• 3:54
Speaker 3: But anyway, they again, they had chances to win that year.
• 3:58
Speaker 3: Recon of course, there's that call at.
• 3:59
Speaker 4: The end of here we go, Well there was that.
• 4:01
Speaker 2: I mean, they blew that call.
• 4:03
Speaker 3: I mean, it was, let's face it, but uh uh.
• 4:10
Speaker 2: And I'm not saying that the Pistons would have won
• 4:12
Speaker 2: that series, but they had a chance. They would have
• 4:14
Speaker 2: been up three to two, you know, they were you know,
• 4:16
Speaker 2: but what that's that's ward are under the bridge.
• 4:18
Speaker 3: But I don't think the Pistons.
• 4:20
Speaker 2: If the Pistons were playing the Knicks in a player series,
• 4:24
Speaker 2: even at full strength, I'm favoring the.
• 4:26
Speaker 4: Knicks, But how do they beat him like four times?
• 4:29
Speaker 4: I think it was this year at Yeah, the regular
• 4:31
  Speaker 4: season too.
• 4:31
Speaker 5: I mean the way that guys those regular season matchups
• 4:34
Speaker 5: went and lou that had me convinced that the Pistons
• 4:38
Speaker 5: were going to the finals if they could take down
• 4:40
Speaker 5: a finals favorite like the Knicks.
• 4:42
Speaker 6: The Knicks in nineteen In nineteen ninety three, ninety four,
• 4:49
Speaker 6: we played the Knicks in the first round of playoffs
• 4:51
Speaker 6: during the regular season.
• 4:53
Speaker 2: We beat we whipped their ass four out of five.
• 4:56
Speaker 2: We lost, We lost the best of five series. It
• 4:59
Speaker 2: was still best of five the first round. We lost
• 5:01
Speaker 2: three games to one, the knixt one to the finals.
• 5:04
  Speaker 2: We went home.
• 5:07
  Speaker 4: And race in.
• 5:08
Speaker 2: Twenty twenty five, twenty six, with the unwatchable product that
• 5:12
Speaker 2: the NBA is putting out there, look at what the
• 5:17
Speaker 2: Nets put out last night, the players they put out
• 5:20
Speaker 2: last night, and they haven't putting out what Sacramento has
• 5:24
Speaker 2: been putting out. You can go right down the line.
• 5:27
Speaker 4: Even you cannot Indiana Indiana.
• 5:30
Speaker 3: Well, and I'll get to Indiana in the second.
• 5:33
Speaker 2: This bad year is is really beneficial to them because
• 5:36
Speaker 2: they're gonna get Halliburton back next year, and they're gonna
• 5:39
Speaker 2: get a pick in the top six or seven.
• 5:41
Speaker 3: They might even get they might even have.
• 5:43
Speaker 2: Carlos Boozer or Basanta Byu on their team.
• 5:48
Speaker 3: I mean, so that a horrible year.
• 5:51
Speaker 2: But they go from the seventh game last year to
• 5:53
Speaker 2: a horrible year, they might get the first or second pick,
• 5:56
Speaker 2: and then next year they'll be an Eastern Conference contender again.
• 6:00
Speaker 2: Remember they're coached by a great coach. Also, Carlisle is
• 6:03
  Speaker 2: a great coach.
• 6:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, all the championship pedigree, yeah, I mean what he's
• 6:09
Speaker 5: been able to make out of what's yeah, you know,
• 6:13
Speaker 5: I mean that that stuff does not.
• 6:14
Speaker 3: Go unnoticed, no, no doubt about it.
• 6:17
Speaker 2: But the NBA, my god, these ten teams that you know,
• 6:22
Speaker 2: you got eight or ten teams that.
• 6:23
Speaker 1: Are taking and then you have these games and triple digits.
• 6:25
Speaker 1: It's like every game they're scoring over one hundred.
• 6:27
Speaker 2: Now, well here I made a note, where where the
• 6:30
Speaker 2: heck is it? Uh? Your use of uh norrick of
• 6:37
Speaker 2: the of the starting center for the for the uh
• 6:40
Speaker 2: Utah Jazz. H he has some kind of nose issue
• 6:45
Speaker 2: that he was going to have taken care of with
• 6:47
Speaker 2: surgery at the end of the year when the season
• 6:50
Speaker 2: was over. But you want to know something that Jazz
• 6:52
Speaker 2: who have been fined by the NBA for sitting guys.
• 6:56
Speaker 4: Have been called out publicly.
• 6:57
Speaker 2: Right so Norwich, So which's out for the rest of
• 7:00
Speaker 2: the season, he's gonna miss he missed. It'll be the
• 7:03
Speaker 2: last two months of the year because they're gonna do
• 7:06
  Speaker 2: the no surgery.
• 7:07
Speaker 4: Now you know why.
• 7:08
Speaker 3: Because he has a lot of things going on during
• 7:12
Speaker 3: the summer. Are you kidding me?
• 7:15
Speaker 2: What if he got going on vacation even though he's
• 7:19
Speaker 2: getting married. That's the state of the end. This is
• 7:22
Speaker 2: not the NBA I was.
• 7:22
Speaker 3: In for twenty eight years, guys, I'm telling you. And
• 7:27
Speaker 3: you know they talk about expansion.
• 7:29
  Speaker 4: Yeah, Vegas.
• 7:31
Speaker 3: They gotta fix what's what's going on in the NBA.
• 7:34
Speaker 2: Now before they expand, right, I mean, if they expand,
• 7:37
Speaker 2: and if you believe that the expansion fee is going
• 7:41
Speaker 2: to be eight billion dollars per team, we'll just say, well,
• 7:46
Speaker 2: each the Knicks and the Nets are going.
• 7:48
Speaker 3: To get five hundred and thirty three plus.
• 7:53
Speaker 2: Million in expansion fees, and you don't have to share
• 7:57
Speaker 2: it with the players.
• 7:58
Speaker 3: It doesn't go to revenue, revenue right to the owners.
• 8:04
Speaker 2: I think I got when I joined the Next to
• 8:06
Speaker 2: nineteen eighty one, the team, the franchise was worth six million.
• 8:11
Speaker 3: Now the Francis is probably worth eight billion.
• 8:15
Speaker 4: Wild, unreal, that is wild.
• 8:17
Speaker 3: But the NBA's got to fix this mess.
• 8:19
Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest with you, guys.
• 8:20
Speaker 1: So it looks like the tanking option, the tanking fins
• 8:23
  Speaker 1: aren't working, right, there's still.
• 8:24
Speaker 3: Well again, yes, let's go.
• 8:28
Speaker 2: Let's go throughout the If you go down and look
• 8:31
Speaker 2: at the draft every year, look at the top five
• 8:34
Speaker 2: and teams that tank, it doesn't work most of the time. Yes,
• 8:38
Speaker 2: Dallas got Lucky Cooper, flag is gonna be is gonna
• 8:42
Speaker 2: be sensational. You got guys like that, But you know
• 8:46
Speaker 2: you got I mean, next drafted third one year is RJ.
• 8:51
Speaker 3: Barrett a difference maker.
• 8:53
Speaker 4: He's a good player, good player.
• 8:55
Speaker 5: But as far as the number one option, I hate
• 8:58
Speaker 5: to say it, but that's a no. Yeah, not even
• 9:01
Speaker 5: I mean it's even a debatable second option to on
• 9:04
  Speaker 5: a title contender.
• 9:04
Speaker 1: I want to ask you about this because I keep
• 9:06
Speaker 1: seeing his name pop up a lot, and look the
• 9:10
Speaker 1: James situation. Where he goes after this year, no one knows,
• 9:12
Speaker 1: but Luca Doggets continues to make the headlines every night.
• 9:15
Speaker 4: It seems like it is the r m VP for
• 9:17
Speaker 4: the year or what.
• 9:19
Speaker 2: The NBA n VP will probably be SGA.
• 9:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, what he's been able to continue to do with
• 9:30
  Speaker 4: the Thunder.
• 9:30
Speaker 1: And they will like a double a repeat, you know,
• 9:33
  Speaker 1: possibility here.
• 9:34
Speaker 2: So but getting back to our original point, like five
• 9:38
Speaker 2: minutes ago, anything that you see in a regular season
• 9:42
Speaker 2: of the NBA, just toss it to the side.
• 9:45
Speaker 3: It's going to be totally different when the playoffs began.
• 9:48
Speaker 2: We don't even know until maybe midway through the first
• 9:51
Speaker 2: round how it's going to play out a little bit. Yes, obviously,
• 9:55
Speaker 2: okay See is young, athletic, healthy, They play the best
• 10:00
Speaker 2: fence in the league, they have the m v P,
• 10:03
Speaker 2: they have the best situational players, so they're gonna be favored.
• 10:08
Speaker 1: But well, look here in Europe were all happy the
• 10:09
Speaker 1: heart and scene won a chip with with okay See,
• 10:12
Speaker 1: and he's still on that team right.
• 10:14
Speaker 4: So yeah, he's still with the Thunder. I mean doing
• 10:16
Speaker 4: as well as ever, so no, I mean, it's it
• 10:19
Speaker 4: is kind of fun to watch him now.
• 10:22
Speaker 1: I don't want to talk about the baseball side of things,
• 10:24
Speaker 1: and I don't want talk about the World Baseball Classic
• 10:25
Speaker 1: like it just all right.
• 10:27
Speaker 2: I had some notes for the World Baseball Classic, but
• 10:29
Speaker 2: I want to get to the big your show, so
• 10:31
  Speaker 2: you could.
• 10:32
Speaker 1: I want to get to the bigger point, which seems
• 10:34
Speaker 1: to be buried under this WBC loss, and everybody seems
• 10:36
Speaker 1: to be either mourning about, blaming Judge about, or you.
• 10:39
Speaker 3: Know, it was it wasn't.
• 10:41
Speaker 2: It wasn't a good night for Aaron Judge considering his
• 10:45
Speaker 2: postseason issues in the past. It wasn't a good night
• 10:48
Speaker 2: for Mark de Rosa. It wasn't a good night for
• 10:51
Speaker 2: the Major League Baseball teams that called up, uh, the
• 10:56
Speaker 2: USA Baseball and said, don't the Yankees say Bednar unavailable
• 11:01
Speaker 2: or the Padres say you could only use Mason Miller
• 11:04
Speaker 2: in a safe situation because Benn should have been in
• 11:07
Speaker 2: there in the seventh or eighth inning, and Mason Miller
• 11:10
Speaker 2: should have been in there in the ninth.
• 11:11
Speaker 5: You should have I mean, that was also the same
• 11:13
Speaker 5: thing too with the Venezuela and Omer Lopez and their
• 11:16
Speaker 5: manager also getting calls to from some of the major
• 11:19
Speaker 5: league teams being like, hey, don't use our guys.
• 11:21
Speaker 4: Don't use our guys.
• 11:22
Speaker 5: See, I get not wanting to have your guys be
• 11:27
Speaker 5: injured in what could otherwise be a meaningless tournament. I
• 11:31
Speaker 5: mean I experienced that first hand with the DA stuff,
• 11:34
Speaker 5: all right, and the met season was ruined the second.
• 11:36
Speaker 3: No, there's no doubt about that. That that yeah, Alex
• 11:40
Speaker 3: knows how how I was ticked off with that.
• 11:42
Speaker 2: It's the gimmick tournament. I mean, can you imagine the
• 11:45
Speaker 2: Edmonton Oilers calling up Team Canada and saying, don't play
• 11:50
Speaker 2: h Connor McDavid, you know in the City finals.
• 11:54
Speaker 3: Can you imagine that?
• 11:55
Speaker 2: Or the Devil's calling up Team USA and saying don't
• 11:59
  Speaker 2: play Jackie was.
• 12:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, that would have been ridiculous.
• 12:02
Speaker 1: But I'm glad you brought up hockey because we gotta
• 12:06
Speaker 1: wrap up in a couple of minutes.
• 12:07
Speaker 4: Yep. But under all this.
• 12:10
Speaker 1: WBC stuff, uh USA sled hockey and I was the
• 12:14
Speaker 1: one beating drum to them because I felt no one
• 12:15
  Speaker 1: else was wins.
• 12:17
Speaker 4: Gold against who CA?
• 12:20
Speaker 3: Yeah no, yeah, it's uh not been a good stretch.
• 12:26
Speaker 4: And we took their sport, Louis, that's what we did well.
• 12:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, five five years in a row, five Olympics in
• 12:34
  Speaker 3: a row.
• 12:35
Speaker 2: Excuse me that the kid Wallace who had that hat
• 12:37
Speaker 2: trick or with the score, I don't know if he
• 12:40
Speaker 2: got if they credit him with that fourth goal, that
• 12:42
Speaker 2: shorthanded goal. The kid who scored the empty net goal.
• 12:48
Speaker 2: I mean, I cannot believe from the set of that
• 12:50
Speaker 2: face off on in sweat hockey, how he tearass guys,
• 12:56
  Speaker 2: I can't run that fast.
• 12:59
Speaker 1: That was on NBC because you know, I hate to
• 13:00
Speaker 1: say it, but adaptive sports, people with disabilities are not
• 13:04
Speaker 1: always on the front page like that. So I was
• 13:05
Speaker 1: glad it was on NBC. But I want to ask
• 13:08
Speaker 1: you about this because you're both able bodied. If you well,
• 13:11
Speaker 1: if you could, would you try slid hockey? It is
• 13:13
Speaker 1: a fun sport. I tried it once when I was low,
• 13:15
Speaker 1: but it never really panned out.
• 13:17
Speaker 4: So would you ever try it? No, I definitely would,
• 13:19
  Speaker 4: for sure I.
• 13:21
Speaker 3: Would if I was your rage for Ryan's age.
• 13:25
Speaker 1: Look, I'm always down to try new things like the
• 13:28
Speaker 1: adaptive sports. And then my buddy Patrick Halgren's meddling for
• 13:32
Speaker 1: the first time in the Paralympics for for Team USA
• 13:35
Speaker 1: in an event. I mean, it was special to watch.
• 13:38
Speaker 1: And the fact I know Patrick personally. I was texting
• 13:40
Speaker 1: with him. Everyone who goals like this is unreal. I'm like,
• 13:43
  Speaker 1: well that's great.
• 13:44
Speaker 2: Well that's the other thing. I'm watching a downhill skiing
• 13:48
Speaker 2: I said, my god, these guys are these guys not
• 13:52
Speaker 2: they're not only amazing athletes, but they're so courageous.
• 13:57
  Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
• 13:59
Speaker 1: It's well, but you know, that's funny you mention that,
• 14:01
Speaker 1: because I always feel like people with disabilities compete just
• 14:03
Speaker 1: to compete. They don't even think about the look at
• 14:06
Speaker 1: look at us type of thing. It's very like they
• 14:09
Speaker 1: don't think of it. As I always say, in wheelchair basketball,
• 14:14
Speaker 1: everybody's in all that they put the ball in the
• 14:16
Speaker 1: hoop because like, oh my god, a guy the Wilter. Meanwhile,
• 14:18
Speaker 1: they're like, all right, well now let's win. You know,
• 14:21
Speaker 1: they don't just stop putting in the hoop in a myriad,
• 14:22
Speaker 1: they just keep playing.
• 14:23
  Speaker 4: You know that. It's it's a different mindset, I guess.
• 14:25
Speaker 1: But that's why I love covering adaptive sports because and
• 14:29
Speaker 1: they need the coverage be they're just built We're built differently.
• 14:33
  Speaker 4: As athletes.
• 14:34
Speaker 1: Well, and see, I always say, if you're disabled, I
• 14:39
Speaker 1: think having a competitive spirit helps you have one leg
• 14:41
  Speaker 1: up on life.
• 14:42
Speaker 4: I really do, because if you're it helps.
• 14:47
  Speaker 3: I totally agree.
• 14:49
Speaker 1: But yeah, no, they beat Canada three times in a
• 14:51
Speaker 1: row in the Olympics in court, in that same arena.
• 14:54
Speaker 4: I love it. I love what all three teams are on.
• 14:56
Speaker 1: Now. The question is can we get them down in
• 14:58
Speaker 1: the canadon of heroes. I want all three teams having
• 15:00
Speaker 1: a parade in New York this summer.
• 15:02
Speaker 2: I would love that, you.
• 15:03
Speaker 3: Know that that that would be That would be great. Yeah,
• 15:06
  Speaker 3: I love that.
• 15:06
Speaker 2: You know, maybe I'd come back to one eleven Broadway
• 15:08
Speaker 2: for a day and uh stand in front.
• 15:11
Speaker 4: Well maybe maybe maybe I was trying to convince Donie.
• 15:14
Speaker 4: I don't know. But anyway, before.
• 15:18
Speaker 2: We go, can I say, can I say one thing?
• 15:20
Speaker 4: Yeah? Definitely we didn't.
• 15:23
Speaker 2: Uh we didn't do uh a podcast last week. But
• 15:28
Speaker 2: Matt Snell of the New York Jets, he died at
• 15:30
Speaker 2: eighty four years old. You guys probably don't know who
• 15:32
Speaker 2: he is. He was the starting one of the starting
• 15:35
Speaker 2: running backs along with Mson Boozer on the Super Bowl team.
• 15:38
Speaker 2: He was a great Jet Jet at all time, Jays
• 15:42
Speaker 2: in the Ring of Honor and uh Joe name it
• 15:45
Speaker 2: said he should have been the m v P the
• 15:48
Speaker 2: Jets in in UH scouting that the Colts on tape
• 15:53
Speaker 2: saw that that the right side of the of the
• 15:55
Speaker 2: of the Colts defensive line was weak and act they
• 16:00
Speaker 2: attacked it and Snell had one hundred and twenty four
• 16:03
Speaker 2: one yards on thirty carries. He's scored basically the first
• 16:08
Speaker 2: time in the AFL team took a lead in the
• 16:10
Speaker 2: Super Bowl on a four yard run. He helped kill
• 16:14
Speaker 2: the clock. He was a great Jet held he was.
• 16:17
Speaker 2: He was the classic running back.
• 16:20
  Speaker 4: Uh.
• 16:20
Speaker 3: He can block, he can catch, and he can run.
• 16:24
Speaker 2: So I just wanted to give him a shout out.
• 16:27
Speaker 2: He deserves it. He you know, he died and.
• 16:30
  Speaker 1: I know you're a huge Jet fan, so I'm sure
• 16:32
Speaker 1: this lost impacted you because you were you saw it.
• 16:35
  Speaker 3: I saw it.
• 16:36
Speaker 2: I saw it as another thing that was impactful for
• 16:38
Speaker 2: the Jets that they built their franchise and brand. The
• 16:41
Speaker 2: Jets drafted number one out of Ohio State, I think
• 16:44
Speaker 2: third overall. The Giants also drafted them in the third round.
• 16:49
Speaker 2: And for him to pick the Jets over the Giants
• 16:52
Speaker 2: at that time, it was only the fifty year of
• 16:53
Speaker 2: the Jets. History was significant in them building their franchise
• 16:57
Speaker 2: and building their brand. And the next day they drafted
• 16:59
Speaker 2: Joe Name It's one, and you know then Boozer, George
• 17:02
Speaker 2: Soward Junior, you know the guys. But Max Noell was
• 17:06
Speaker 2: a great Jet. He was a classic complete football player.
• 17:09
Speaker 2: Just wanted to give him a little you know, he's
• 17:11
Speaker 2: been forgotten. I want to give him a little recognition.
• 17:14
Speaker 1: You know, we missed last week, so I'm glad you
• 17:15
Speaker 1: were able to talk about him.
• 17:17
Speaker 4: I mean, were your family Jet fans or Giant fans
• 17:20
  Speaker 4: growing up?
• 17:21
Speaker 5: Well, I mean on my dad's side, he was definitely
• 17:23
Speaker 5: a Jet fan, born through and through. Now, as far
• 17:27
Speaker 5: as my mom's side is concerned, I mean, she always
• 17:31
Speaker 5: grew up a forty nine Ers fan, being that her
• 17:33
Speaker 5: maiden initials were SF and she was a big Steve
• 17:36
Speaker 5: Young feedback, so it all makes sense. But then her father,
• 17:41
Speaker 5: my grandfather, and it's funny because he would always flip
• 17:45
Speaker 5: back and forth between the Giants.
• 17:48
  Speaker 4: And the Jets.
• 17:48
Speaker 5: He was one of those New York fans where he
• 17:51
Speaker 5: would have set allegiances to the Giants if they were good.
• 17:54
Speaker 5: He would have set allegiances to the Jets if they
• 17:56
Speaker 5: were good, but he would always switch it up. And
• 18:00
Speaker 5: especially given the chaotic turmoil that was the eighties Jets
• 18:04
Speaker 5: with the New York Stock Exchange, that kind of falling
• 18:06
Speaker 5: apart in the late eighties, and I mean, don't even
• 18:10
Speaker 5: get me started on those years in the mid nineties
• 18:13
Speaker 5: as well. I mean, it just made it fairly easy
• 18:15
Speaker 5: for him to pick the Giants at all that even then,
• 18:18
Speaker 5: I still wear his Giants hat from time to time
• 18:21
Speaker 5: to actually were when I met a man Bradshaw with
• 18:24
  Speaker 5: this guy and.
• 18:26
Speaker 1: It's funny you say, well, it's interesting you talk about
• 18:28
Speaker 1: the running back position for the Jets, because in my view,
• 18:32
Speaker 1: it's always been who's gonna be the next jour name
• 18:33
Speaker 1: of the Giant. The Jets have always had that shadow.
• 18:36
Speaker 1: Who's ever the quarterback has to be donated. They have
• 18:39
Speaker 1: to do that what he did in.
• 18:40
Speaker 5: Exactly because I mean, nobody else's coming remotely close to that,
• 18:44
Speaker 5: apart from maybe Chad Pennington. And I mean, even then,
• 18:48
Speaker 5: injuries just completely ruined his potential.
• 18:51
Speaker 2: If Chad Pennington didn't have the back to back shoulder
• 18:55
Speaker 2: separation shoulder injuries, he would have been the second best
• 18:58
Speaker 2: Jet quarterback, no question.
• 19:00
Speaker 1: But like now, you look at the running back position
• 19:03
Speaker 1: in Matt Snow and Curtis Martin. I mean, growing up,
• 19:06
Speaker 1: I saw Curtis. I mean, the Jet running back position
• 19:10
Speaker 1: has been actually pretty prestigious over the years. And now
• 19:13
Speaker 1: bree McNeil and I was about for a time. But
• 19:16
Speaker 1: I only guys can hear the conversation with Breeze Hall though,
• 19:20
Speaker 1: what do they do with him?
• 19:21
  Speaker 4: Right?
• 19:21
Speaker 1: So they sign him, they franchise tag him, They're gonna
• 19:24
Speaker 1: keep them, right, They're not gonna trade them.
• 19:25
Speaker 4: What do you think they're gonna do.
• 19:26
Speaker 2: I think that he'll probably get a three or four
• 19:30
Speaker 2: year deal, probably by July fifteenth by training camp.
• 19:35
  Speaker 1: Luck he stays because he's I've always thought he's a
• 19:38
Speaker 1: centerpiece they can build around.
• 19:39
Speaker 2: You know. The only thing is, and you know I'm
• 19:42
Speaker 2: not big on drafting running backs in the top five
• 19:44
Speaker 2: or anything like that.
• 19:46
Speaker 7: Jeremias buddy, Jeremiah Line is so good that I you
• 19:52
Speaker 7: they might be tempted, like say at sixteen, if by
• 19:55
Speaker 7: some chance he's still there, which I doubt, or say
• 19:58
Speaker 7: at twelve, then maybe they'll trade.
• 20:00
Speaker 2: They'll take a couple of those second round picks, and
• 20:03
Speaker 2: if they because this kid, this kid is so good.
• 20:07
  Speaker 2: I'm telling you guys, I I wouldn't be surprised if
• 20:12
Speaker 2: the Giants pick him at five.
• 20:14
Speaker 1: All Right, well we end we started. We're talking about
• 20:16
Speaker 1: March Madness. I want to end with March Madness.
• 20:20
Speaker 4: We don't usually get your.
• 20:21
Speaker 1: Prediction movie, but who do you have? I mean, it
• 20:23
Speaker 1: feels like you're thinking Duke Michigan as well. Could be
• 20:25
Speaker 1: the tournament final at least or what.
• 20:28
Speaker 2: You know, everybody who's saying Arizona, Arizona, Arizona. You know what.
• 20:33
Speaker 2: One of these years teams that are always knocking on
• 20:37
Speaker 2: the door, knocked through the door, knock the door down.
• 20:41
Speaker 3: That could be Houston. They one of these things.
• 20:45
Speaker 4: They didn't last year too, so they could do it again.
• 20:47
Speaker 2: Yeah, so it could be used to knocking the door down.
• 20:51
Speaker 2: I liked Iowa State for a while.
• 20:53
Speaker 3: I'm just not sure they have the depth to go there.
• 20:56
Speaker 1: But and for our New Jersey front or New Jersey fans,
• 21:00
Speaker 1: by the way, I want to ask you this, what's
• 21:03
Speaker 1: Seaton Hall of his future? I mean, it was a
• 21:05
Speaker 1: it was an interesting tournament.
• 21:06
  Speaker 4: Last week.
• 21:07
Speaker 1: They got bounced by Saint John's. But were they expected
• 21:09
Speaker 1: to make it to Friday? I feel like that wasn't
• 21:11
  Speaker 1: achievement in of.
• 21:12
Speaker 2: Itself, you know, I think, I mean, I think they
• 21:14
Speaker 2: had a very positive year obviously. Uh.
• 21:19
Speaker 3: The big thing is is is are teams going other
• 21:22
  Speaker 3: schools going.
• 21:23
Speaker 2: To uh go after Sheen? I I don't know, so, uh,
• 21:33
Speaker 2: you know, so we'll so we'll see. But that a
• 21:35
Speaker 2: successful year. Can they keep these guys? Can they keep
• 21:38
Speaker 2: but Clark and people like that? So we'll see.
• 21:44
Speaker 5: Yeah, really just got to see what happens uh with
• 21:46
Speaker 5: the Pirates as far as that's concerned now, Alex. Obviously
• 21:49
Speaker 5: it's a step out for just a second here, but
• 21:51
Speaker 5: I mean it really just as a you know, wait,
• 21:54
Speaker 5: I wait and see kind of thing.
• 21:55
  Speaker 4: Now.
• 21:55
Speaker 5: Granted I don't really follow the Pirates as much as
• 21:59
Speaker 5: say the two of you, but I mean it's definitely
• 22:02
Speaker 5: a big four in the road for the program.
• 22:04
Speaker 2: Yeah. No, remember they went from from winning seven games
• 22:07
Speaker 2: last year to winning twenty one games last year. It's
• 22:10
Speaker 2: it's a success. It was a widely successful season for them.
• 22:14
Speaker 2: It really was, uh they you know, and they the
• 22:17
Speaker 2: thing that killed them as far as being on the bubble.
• 22:19
Speaker 2: They were one seven against Saint John's, Yukon and Villanova.
• 22:24
Speaker 2: And that's why they were off the bubble. That's you know,
• 22:29
  Speaker 2: that's that's the deal.
• 22:30
Speaker 1: So but Terminilla's take, We'll be watching an high year
• 22:35
Speaker 1: in HQ. The one Lego Alex Media ro PEG's perspective,
• 22:39
Speaker 1: HQ March Madness this year. I'm always around this time,
• 22:43
Speaker 1: but one last I know, right, but for you for
• 22:46
Speaker 1: Washington's all these years, any memories you have of the
• 22:48
Speaker 1: first couple of days, I mean it feels like a
• 22:51
Speaker 1: day where anything can happen?
• 22:52
Speaker 4: Is it the boat the first two days?
• 22:54
Speaker 2: Well, remember about twenty five years ago, Gonzaga was was
• 22:59
Speaker 2: the one that pulled off all these upsets.
• 23:01
Speaker 3: They were the ones that was Cinderella. They're no longer Cinderella.
• 23:04
Speaker 2: Their basketball power. Then you have when Valparaizo beat Mississippi.
• 23:11
Speaker 2: I mean, we can go right down the line, you know,
• 23:14
Speaker 2: you really could. But Saint Peter's and most recently Saint
• 23:18
Speaker 2: Peter's and Phirly Dickinson coming fairly to getson in my
• 23:22
Speaker 2: alma Mata. I grew up in Hudson County. I was
• 23:24
Speaker 2: born in Jersey City. To see Saint Peter's get to
• 23:27
Speaker 2: the to one game short of playing in the final
• 23:30
Speaker 2: four is something that well, we won't see again, all right.
• 23:34
Speaker 4: I just saw Ryan's lock Street about the Islanders. You
• 23:36
Speaker 4: know what's funny about.
• 23:37
Speaker 1: Lou Right, I think it was the same night they
• 23:40
Speaker 1: lost to the Veners when they're like, well, at least
• 23:42
Speaker 1: the Islanders on a big win.
• 23:43
Speaker 4: So exactly. I mean, there is that the team in
• 23:47
Speaker 4: the playoffs this year in the Tria.
• 23:49
Speaker 2: I hope they get in.
• 23:50
Speaker 3: I hope the Islanders get in.
• 23:52
Speaker 2: They're on the right path. Matthew Schaeffer in person is
• 23:58
Speaker 2: even more impressive than when you watch him on television.
• 24:02
Speaker 2: He played twenty nine I went last week. He played
• 24:04
Speaker 2: twenty nine minutes in seventeen seconds. I mean, it's like
• 24:07
Speaker 2: play half the game. He's so good he I mean
• 24:13
  Speaker 2: he really it's it's unbelievable. I just I hope that
• 24:17
  Speaker 2: they get in. I don't I know they're not gonna
• 24:19
Speaker 2: win the Stanley Cup. I just want him to get in,
• 24:21
Speaker 2: and especially with his first.
• 24:23
Speaker 1: Year was Shaefer, that would be unbelievable and probably one
• 24:26
Speaker 1: of the last years for anders Lee, right, I mean.
• 24:28
Speaker 5: As he is on expiring deal right now, nobody knows
• 24:30
Speaker 5: what's gonna happen with him as far as twenty six,
• 24:33
Speaker 5: twenty seven in the future is concerned. I mean, he's
• 24:36
Speaker 5: always somebody you think could be a lifelong Islander.
• 24:39
Speaker 4: But and that's all up in the air. And speaking
• 24:41
Speaker 4: of last year's we got to cover the sport, we
• 24:43
  Speaker 4: go my buddy.
• 24:46
Speaker 1: And I'm sure you know him well too, And you've
• 24:47
Speaker 1: heard him on the radio. How he rose saying this
• 24:50
Speaker 1: is last season. I mean, we knew it was gonna
• 24:53
Speaker 1: be happening soon. I thought he'd given another couple of years,
• 24:55
Speaker 1: but this is it. Well, I saw you send me
• 24:58
Speaker 1: that that post this morning. I couldn't when I was out,
• 25:02
Speaker 1: I couldn't open up on my phone. So that's what
• 25:05
Speaker 1: he announced, that that that this is last year.
• 25:07
Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, so he's the other.
• 25:09
Speaker 3: Day an awful announcing. He said that he said that
• 25:14
Speaker 3: he'll know when it's time to go.
• 25:16
Speaker 2: But it may it sound like he was going to
• 25:17
Speaker 2: be around for a couple of a couple more years
• 25:19
Speaker 2: and he's having major health problems. And it's a shame
• 25:23
Speaker 2: because he is a great baseball announcer. He is, he's
• 25:30
Speaker 2: a great baseball announcer.
• 25:32
  Speaker 4: That's a loss.
• 25:34
Speaker 5: And I mean You're not gonna be able to replace
• 25:37
Speaker 5: how He in that radio. I mean, there's no question
• 25:40
Speaker 5: about that. There's no replacing how We I mean, really
• 25:42
Speaker 5: the next best thing you could do, at least if
• 25:45
Speaker 5: you're the Mets, you know, you just try to recreate
• 25:49
Speaker 5: him to some extent. But you know, even then, and
• 25:53
Speaker 5: you know, Keith Rad Pat McCarthy, and that's gonna be
• 25:55
Speaker 5: the future booth duo moving forward. I'm sure they're gonna
• 25:58
Speaker 5: do well there, but you know, they definitely they Thank.
• 26:02
Speaker 1: God he made that trip to Milwaukee, right, I mean
• 26:04
Speaker 1: to call that Alonso Homer was just one of the moments.
• 26:07
Speaker 2: And as we said on his podcast, on a scale
• 26:11
Speaker 2: of one to ten, it was an eleven. It was
• 26:13
Speaker 2: an absolutely everybody who wants to be a play by
• 26:15
Speaker 2: play broadcaster for baseball should listen to that call.
• 26:20
Speaker 4: That was perfect. That's how you do it.
• 26:22
Speaker 1: And you know how much of what Midpactor was. They
• 26:24
Speaker 1: listened to it on the plane ride back. I mean
• 26:26
Speaker 1: they kept playing it over and over in the plane
• 26:28
  Speaker 1: ride back.
• 26:29
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, Now yeah, how he's great, I mean,
• 26:33
  Speaker 2: is as a.
• 26:34
  Speaker 4: Hall of Famer.
• 26:36
Speaker 2: I mean you can link him back to the great
• 26:38
Speaker 2: announcement and this is again before your time.
• 26:41
Speaker 3: Uh, you know Lindsay Nelson, Ralph Kiner and Bob Murphy.
• 26:44
  Speaker 3: He's that he's in that.
• 26:45
Speaker 1: ILK and he went from Queens College to do that
• 26:48
Speaker 1: New York Sports phone or something like that sports and
• 26:52
Speaker 1: then he went on to be you know, Major League
• 26:55
Speaker 1: Baseball and HL I mean, and there's a fellow of
• 26:58
Speaker 1: love of Queen's College.
• 26:59
Speaker 4: It's a special map that tie with him too. So
• 27:02
Speaker 4: and you know my story.
• 27:03
Speaker 1: I've interviewed him, I know. But also I tell you
• 27:06
Speaker 1: I think I told you this too. I was in
• 27:09
Speaker 1: covering it for an event a couple of years ago for.
• 27:12
Speaker 4: One of the media.
• 27:13
Speaker 1: Outlets here, the Queen's Cauzette, covered a game and how
• 27:17
Speaker 1: he spent a good twenty minutes with me before first pitch,
• 27:20
Speaker 1: shooting the breeze. And I'm like, he is a down
• 27:22
Speaker 1: to earth guy, like he wants everybody around him to
• 27:26
Speaker 1: grow and checks in on people.
• 27:27
Speaker 4: You know. So I really appreciate that about him.
• 27:29
Speaker 2: So, my guys, one of my best friends worked for
• 27:33
Speaker 2: the Islands for the last year and a half of
• 27:35
Speaker 2: his of his sports career, and he said how he
• 27:39
Speaker 2: was such a good guy.
• 27:42
Speaker 4: Well, you know when he did that.
• 27:43
Speaker 1: When he ended the Islander run, I was kind of sad,
• 27:45
Speaker 1: but I'm kind of like, Okay, well, I hope he
• 27:46
Speaker 1: keeps the Mets gig for a while.
• 27:47
Speaker 4: I think he quit the Islander so we could do
• 27:49
  Speaker 4: the Mets gig.
• 27:50
Speaker 2: Folks, Well, he quit the Islanders after he started having
• 27:55
Speaker 2: those bladder is the cancer, the cancer bladder issues, you
• 28:00
Speaker 2: can't go on. I mean, I think the Mets had
• 28:02
Speaker 2: to make an emergency landing. I think in Detroit when
• 28:06
Speaker 2: he was you know, when he first got this attack
• 28:08
Speaker 2: or something like that.
• 28:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, you recall hearing about that.
• 28:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, just hopefully that he's healthy. He'll be missed.
• 28:17
Speaker 2: Let's enjoy him this year. Let's hope the Mets, you know,
• 28:21
Speaker 2: have a good year.
• 28:22
Speaker 3: I have no idea.
• 28:23
Speaker 2: I know we have to wrap up, but I have
• 28:25
Speaker 2: no idea what kind of season the Mets are going
• 28:26
Speaker 2: to have. I can't tell at this point.
• 28:28
  Speaker 4: Yeah, who knows.
• 28:28
Speaker 5: But you know, I'll just go back to what how
• 28:31
Speaker 5: he was saying during his video announcing that the twenty
