- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up canes fans welcome back to acc football addiction
- 0:03Speaker 1: we've got a pretty big problem that we have to
- 0:06Speaker 1: discuss today maybe what you're thinking it may not be
- 0:09Speaker 1: what you're thinking i haven't made this thumbnail yet so
- 0:11Speaker 1: i don't know i might have given it away already
- 0:13Speaker 1: but we are presented by prize picks we're all new
- 0:16Speaker 1: users who play a five dollar lineup and win get
- 0:18Speaker 1: 150 in lineups instantly if they use code hma I've
- 0:24Speaker 1: seen this play out way too many times, and I'm
- 0:26Speaker 1: already frustrated by it. We're not even to week three
- 0:28Speaker 1: of the college football season yet. I'm recording this on
- 0:31Speaker 1: a Tuesday night. I think I'll drop it Wednesday morning.
- 0:34Speaker 1: But I don't like the direction that narratives are already
- 0:38Speaker 1: going when it comes to Miami. Listen, I am not
- 0:42Speaker 1: an ACC guy at all. I don't cheer for the
- 0:45Speaker 1: overall conference to do well. I am certainly not a
- 0:49Speaker 1: fan of some of our rivals in this conference as
- 0:51Speaker 1: a Florida State guy. And so there's nothing inside of me.
- 0:55Speaker 1: That's like go ACC. What I will tell you is
- 0:59Speaker 1: that I am a massive college football fan and I
- 1:03Speaker 1: like football. And listen, this is about to be as
- 1:07Speaker 1: close as many of you will ever get to hear
- 1:09Speaker 1: in me. Say the words you want to hear me say,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I enjoyed watching Miami football last year in the playoff,
- 1:17Speaker 1: not because I wanted the canes to win, but because
- 1:20Speaker 1: I enjoy good football. I enjoyed watching a kid like
- 1:24Speaker 1: Mark Fletcher just work his butt off and go get it.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I enjoyed watching a guy like Ruben Bain go out
- 1:31Speaker 1: and work his absolute tail off. If I mean, we
- 1:34Speaker 1: can be rivals and we cannot cheer for each other.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I liked watching Malachi Tony last year. Every week except
- 1:41Speaker 1: for the week that he was in Tallahassee, he was
- 1:43Speaker 1: a ton of fun to watch. And so if you're
- 1:46Speaker 1: just a college football fan, how do you not enjoy
- 1:48Speaker 1: those things? Now, I understand some people can't separate the rivalry,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and I'm a little odd when it comes to that.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I won't like you coming up here in a few
- 1:54Speaker 1: weeks when we go down to Coral Gables to get
- 1:56Speaker 1: our bus kicked, and that's fine. But just as a
- 1:58Speaker 1: fan of football, I enjoyed watching Miami. Let me tell
- 2:01Speaker 1: you something. I enjoyed watching Ole Miss. I enjoyed watching Indiana.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I like good football. And that is not really a
- 2:10Speaker 1: deep concept. What I don't like is the narratives that
- 2:14Speaker 1: continue to get put on this sport and the way
- 2:18Speaker 1: that the people in power, the people that run the
- 2:21Speaker 1: TV networks are trying to alter the way that our
- 2:25Speaker 1: sport works. I usually write out a lot of details
- 2:28Speaker 1: for these. I over-script. I over-outline because I'm very worried
- 2:33Speaker 1: about messing something up. I don't want to mess a
- 2:35Speaker 1: kid's name up. Usually I do a pretty good job
- 2:37Speaker 1: of it. I have some fact-checkers that will read through
- 2:40Speaker 1: my stuff, but I am almost overly intentional about scripting
- 2:44Speaker 1: things out. I scripted nothing out, man. This is like
- 2:46Speaker 1: a Florida State rant. This is like an SMU Florida
- 2:49Speaker 1: State rant at 2 a.m. in Tallahassee level of frustration
- 2:53Speaker 1: that I have with this situation. And it's not because
- 2:56Speaker 1: I really want to see Miami in the playoffs. It's
- 2:58Speaker 1: not because I'm cheering for a rival. I just want
- 3:01Speaker 1: what's right in this sport. For the last few years,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I don't think we've gotten what's right. Now, I'll make
- 3:08Speaker 1: an argument real quick. A lot of our arguing about
- 3:11Speaker 1: the playoff happens with, teams four and five, or in
- 3:15Speaker 1: the 12 team happens with teams 10, 11, 12, and 13. Right.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And my take on that is we really shouldn't waste
- 3:22Speaker 1: that much time talking about who the 11th best team is.
- 3:25Speaker 1: If you put the group of five in it, 12th,
- 3:27Speaker 1: we should really focus more time on the top because
- 3:29Speaker 1: the 11th best team probably ain't going to win it. Well,
- 3:31Speaker 1: Miami went out last year and was damn near the
- 3:33Speaker 1: 11th best team. They were 10th according to the committee
- 3:37Speaker 1: and they went out and they were 40 yards away
- 3:38Speaker 1: from winning the whole thing. So maybe you can win
- 3:40Speaker 1: it from 10th or below. And here's what frustrates me
- 3:45Speaker 1: is you guys know where I stand on this in 2023.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I know about the quarterback injury. I know about all
- 3:52Speaker 1: that stuff. I also know that in sports, we are
- 3:56Speaker 1: supposed to reward teams that overcome adversity in a massive way.
- 4:02Speaker 1: If you watch Texas and Ohio state on Saturday at midnight,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Kirk curb streets on his TV, talking about how proud
- 4:09Speaker 1: he is and how sports are all about overcoming adversity
- 4:12Speaker 1: and how that was the biggest part of the Texas
- 4:14Speaker 1: comeback to him. And I can't disagree. I cannot disagree
- 4:18Speaker 1: with that at all. The problem that I have is
- 4:21Speaker 1: in 2023, Kirk Herbstreet openly campaigned against Florida State to
- 4:27Speaker 1: leave them out of the college football playoff after those
- 4:30Speaker 1: kids responded to adversity and won three straight games after
- 4:35Speaker 1: watching their quarterback snap their leg in half on TV.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So don't tell me you're all about adversity and overcoming
- 4:42Speaker 1: it when you're doing that. And it doesn't just start
- 4:45Speaker 1: with Kirk Herbstreet. It is up and down the line
- 4:49Speaker 1: at ESPN, and anybody who doesn't tow the company line,
- 4:52Speaker 1: they will fire and they will move on from. That's
- 4:54Speaker 1: why RG3 is calling games for Fox now and no
- 4:57Speaker 1: longer with ESPN. If you don't tow the company line
- 5:01Speaker 1: and say what they want you to say, they'll get
- 5:03Speaker 1: rid of you. They don't care about it at all.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Here's the problem that we get to. ESPN's Heather Denich,
- 5:10Speaker 1: who is paid by the company that houses the college
- 5:15Speaker 1: football playoff committee. I've always thought it was a conflict
- 5:18Speaker 1: of interest that ESPN owned the rights to the college
- 5:21Speaker 1: football playoff. They pay a reporter to follow the college
- 5:25Speaker 1: football playoff committee around and get insight from them. They
- 5:28Speaker 1: host the show on which the college football playoff committee
- 5:31Speaker 1: drops their weekly rankings and changes the most important metric
- 5:35Speaker 1: every single week. She says, is Miami maybe on bubble watch?
- 5:43Speaker 1: So the real question for Miami is whether it can
- 5:45Speaker 1: get through a schedule. Without losing a game, it's favored
- 5:48Speaker 1: to win. That's the needing not to lose framing that
- 5:53Speaker 1: I want to talk about. It's Miami avoiding a slip-up.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You want to know why? Because they are looking for
- 5:59Speaker 1: any reason possible to leave the Canes out. I'll tell
- 6:03Speaker 1: you that there is no doubt in my mind that
- 6:07Speaker 1: Miami is a top 10 team in this country. And
- 6:10Speaker 1: you know what we say about top 10 teams that
- 6:12Speaker 1: we are sure about, no matter what their resume is,
- 6:15Speaker 1: when they're in the SEC or the Big Ten? We
- 6:18Speaker 1: talk about their eye test. We talk about how good
- 6:21Speaker 1: they look. We don't care who they've played. We don't
- 6:24Speaker 1: care who they've beaten. We don't care what their resume
- 6:28Speaker 1: looks like. We don't even look at their strength of
- 6:32Speaker 1: schedule or their strength of record. When you're in the
- 6:35Speaker 1: SEC or the Big Ten, we just need to see
- 6:37Speaker 1: how you look. If you look good enough, we'll put
- 6:40Speaker 1: you in. But if you look at the ACC, which
- 6:42Speaker 1: you guys know I'm not an ACC guy, but if
- 6:44Speaker 1: you look at the ACC or the Big 12, well,
- 6:47Speaker 1: then it's not about how you look. It's about who
- 6:49Speaker 1: you've beaten. It's about your strength of schedule. And they're
- 6:53Speaker 1: already starting to bring up Miami's strength of schedule. Talk
- 6:56Speaker 1: about how Miami doesn't have an incredibly strong strength of schedule.
- 7:01Speaker 1: How many of the teams they play are not very good.
- 7:04Speaker 1: how their strength of schedule currently remaining ranks number 39 nationally,
- 7:09Speaker 1: how fam you was an FCS school, how Stanford had
- 7:12Speaker 1: so many guys out. And so they're already devaluing your wins.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Now I'll tell you guys what I've told you on
- 7:17Speaker 1: both recaps. I don't think those wins amount to a
- 7:20Speaker 1: hill of beans. I don't think the wins against Stanford
- 7:22Speaker 1: and fam, you should mean much. You went out, you
- 7:25Speaker 1: took care of business the way you were supposed to.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I didn't see any Miami fans printing championship banners after
- 7:31Speaker 1: beating those teams. But you handled business the way you
- 7:34Speaker 1: were supposed to, and if Miami continues to do that,
- 7:38Speaker 1: that's fine. There's a standard when you're in the SEC
- 7:42Speaker 1: and the Big Ten that, man, all we need to
- 7:44Speaker 1: do is see how you look. If you're in the ACC,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you need to have this kind of resume, and you
- 7:49Speaker 1: need to have this kind of win metric, and you
- 7:51Speaker 1: need to play this way. No, that's not how it works.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But they are already starting to formulate the narrative on
- 7:59Speaker 1: keeping Miami out. TJ, why would they want to keep
- 8:02Speaker 1: Miami out? Because ESPN makes more money if the SEC
- 8:05Speaker 1: makes it into the playoff. I'm just telling you they do.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I know that Miami does great from ratings. I know
- 8:10Speaker 1: that Miami does great from TV audience. I know that
- 8:13Speaker 1: Miami's games, I couldn't even mess with you guys about
- 8:16Speaker 1: the attendance for FAMU because it was good. But ESPN
- 8:19Speaker 1: is already trying to frame the narrative of, I mean,
- 8:22Speaker 1: if they lose that game to Notre Dame, who have
- 8:25Speaker 1: they beaten this year? And part of me will agree
- 8:28Speaker 1: and say, yeah, man, I don't know what the second
- 8:31Speaker 1: best win on you guys' schedule is going to be.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I don't know if somehow maybe Clemson turns it around.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Maybe Virginia Tech's a better team by the time you
- 8:40Speaker 1: guys play them. Maybe somebody else rises up. But I'd agree.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Miami's schedule is not very daunting. That's not the point.
- 8:49Speaker 1: The point is, if you go 11-1, And your only
- 8:53Speaker 1: loss is a close loss or even a 7-point, 10-point
- 8:56Speaker 1: loss on the road at Notre Dame. That's not enough
- 8:59Speaker 1: to keep Miami out, in my opinion. Now, ultimately, Miami
- 9:02Speaker 1: controls their own destiny. I would probably venture to say
- 9:05Speaker 1: that ESPN hates the fact that Miami controls their own destiny.
- 9:11Speaker 1: That's what happens when you know scripted out. I would
- 9:13Speaker 1: imagine that's the case. That ESPN doesn't love the fact
- 9:17Speaker 1: that Miami can walk through its schedule, take care of
- 9:20Speaker 1: business every single week, and then beat one team in
- 9:22Speaker 1: Charlotte and go to the playoff. I'll tell you this.
- 9:26Speaker 1: If you don't go undefeated, I'm not sure they make
- 9:28Speaker 1: you a top four seed. Despite winning your conference, despite
- 9:32Speaker 1: your only loss being to another team that probably went undefeated,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I think BYU will be a challenge for Notre Dame,
- 9:38Speaker 1: but let's agree. If Notre Dame loses a game this year,
- 9:41Speaker 1: the only one I really see is that Miami contest.
- 9:45Speaker 1: So they're probably going to be undefeated. They will not
- 9:47Speaker 1: rank you top four. I think that narrative is already
- 9:50Speaker 1: starting to be set. And Dinic is not the only
- 9:54Speaker 1: one saying it. I'll get to that in a moment.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Before the rant goes on, I will quickly ask you
- 9:59Speaker 1: one question. make sure you're subscribed here. Two, make sure
- 10:02Speaker 1: you're subscribed to our audio feeds as well. I know
- 10:05Speaker 1: I'm yelling at you by saying that, but this has
- 10:06Speaker 1: got me fired up. So make sure you're subscribed to
- 10:09Speaker 1: ACC Football Addiction, whether it's on audio podcast, on Spotify
- 10:14Speaker 1: or Apple Podcasts. And one other thing, make sure you
- 10:17Speaker 1: are subscribed over at State of the State. I've been
- 10:19Speaker 1: doing this with D Money, Allie Peek from Peek Inside
- 10:21Speaker 1: Gators Football, nearly up to 3,000 subscribers. We will get
- 10:26Speaker 1: enough subscribers on this video to take us up to
- 10:28Speaker 1: like 8,000 subscribers. So I'd love if all of you
- 10:31Speaker 1: would go do it. If you all won't, that's fine.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I need about 300 of you to get us over
- 10:35Speaker 1: the cross, across that finish line. I will link the
- 10:38Speaker 1: latest State of the State episode after this so you
- 10:40Speaker 1: can click it and watch it. The narrative is being
- 10:44Speaker 1: set by Denich. that no team in the country has
- 10:49Speaker 1: a better chance to win this conference than Miami right now.
- 10:52Speaker 1: But the Hurricanes have played bad competition, and they should
- 10:56Speaker 1: be on bubble watch right now. The real question for
- 10:59Speaker 1: Miami is whether or not it can get through its
- 11:02Speaker 1: schedule without losing a game. That is the narrative that
- 11:07Speaker 1: they're already crafting about you. Because the question is going
- 11:10Speaker 1: to be, if they lose another game, who do they beat?
- 11:15Speaker 1: Who did Miami beat? Why should we have them in there? Now, again,
- 11:18Speaker 1: Miami controls their own destiny, so it's not all doom
- 11:21Speaker 1: and gloom. Mario's talked about the importance of winning the ACC.
- 11:24Speaker 1: A lot of Miami fans will get on me and say, hey, man,
- 11:27Speaker 1: winning the ACC is not that important. You want to
- 11:29Speaker 1: know why it's important? Because they'll leave your butt out
- 11:32Speaker 1: if you don't. You think the ACC is getting two
- 11:34Speaker 1: teams in this thing? You think the Big 12 is
- 11:36Speaker 1: getting two teams in this thing? Nah. Believe it when
- 11:40Speaker 1: you see it. I'll tell you what, I think Miami
- 11:43Speaker 1: was fortunate last year, though I think they were clearly
- 11:46Speaker 1: a top 12 team. I think Miami was fortunate last
- 11:49Speaker 1: year that Virginia didn't win. Because had Virginia gotten in
- 11:53Speaker 1: the playoff, I don't think they'd have put you in.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I think they would have said, yeah, we ain't kicking
- 11:59Speaker 1: an SEC team out for this. We're not kicking Alabama
- 12:02Speaker 1: out for this. Sorry, Miami. It's just not Denich. She's
- 12:08Speaker 1: been doing this for years. She's been parroting what ESPN
- 12:12Speaker 1: and the college football playoff committee want her to say,
- 12:14Speaker 1: which is to show favoritism towards the sec and the
- 12:17Speaker 1: big 10 a little bit as well. Nick Saban before
- 12:22Speaker 1: the game on Saturday before Ohio state, Texas at college
- 12:25Speaker 1: game day said, we need a better metric to actually
- 12:29Speaker 1: evaluate quality wins and quality losses. I have to pause
- 12:36Speaker 1: before I even say this line out loud because I
- 12:38Speaker 1: could not think of a more loser-ass thing to say
- 12:41Speaker 1: than the greatest coach of all time said on college
- 12:43Speaker 1: game day. But he followed that up by saying some
- 12:47Speaker 1: losses are better than wins. I feel like I could
- 12:53Speaker 1: stop the video right now and just cuss. Now I
- 12:59Speaker 1: get the logic, right? Let me back up a little bit.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Let me slow down. His example, he said last year,
- 13:04Speaker 1: Texas lost to Ohio State. Is that better than them
- 13:08Speaker 1: beating Texas State? He said, I think there's got to
- 13:11Speaker 1: be some metric with the committee that evaluates those things
- 13:14Speaker 1: a little bit better so that we can get the
- 13:16Speaker 1: best teams into the playoff. His broader gripe, he said
- 13:21Speaker 1: raw win totals can be misleading when comparing contenders from
- 13:24Speaker 1: different conferences, different conferences and schedules. He thinks the system
- 13:30Speaker 1: as it is built is discourages teams from scheduling different
- 13:34Speaker 1: non-conference games since how many games you win helps you
- 13:37Speaker 1: get into the playoffs. And it becomes the barometer for
- 13:41Speaker 1: the success of your program. In theory, I can get
- 13:46Speaker 1: behind some of what he's saying. In theory, I don't
- 13:49Speaker 1: like that Indiana and Kurt Cignetti won't play anybody out
- 13:52Speaker 1: of conference. If you guys have heard what Cignetti has said,
- 13:56Speaker 1: he said, I ain't playing anybody out of conference. We
- 13:59Speaker 1: play the Big Ten schedule that we're given. We play
- 14:02Speaker 1: Ohio State or Michigan or one of these teams, Oregon,
- 14:05Speaker 1: in the Big Ten Championship, and then we go to
- 14:07Speaker 1: the playoff. And until they tell me I have to
- 14:10Speaker 1: schedule somebody tough out of conference, I'm not going to.
- 14:13Speaker 1: And so I get it. I would rather see Indiana
- 14:15Speaker 1: play a really good out-of-conference game. I think that would
- 14:17Speaker 1: be fun for me as a college football fan. But
- 14:22Speaker 1: Cignetti's not wrong. And you shouldn't play anybody out of
- 14:27Speaker 1: conference if you can get away with it. Now, Here's
- 14:30Speaker 1: what I'll say about Miami. Miami is playing Notre Dame
- 14:35Speaker 1: out of conference. They also have conference games against Florida State, Clemson,
- 14:43Speaker 1: and Virginia Tech. That Clemson game on the road in
- 14:47Speaker 1: Death Valley. That Florida State game, one of the best
- 14:51Speaker 1: rivalries in college football. I feel like I'm in church.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It is not Miami's fault. that Florida State is a
- 15:02Speaker 1: dumpster fire right now. It is not Miami's fault that
- 15:06Speaker 1: Clemson is a dumpster fire right now. It is not
- 15:09Speaker 1: Miami's fault that Virginia Tech is with a first-year head
- 15:15Speaker 1: coach this year. Miami went on the road and played
- 15:18Speaker 1: Stanford to open up the season. Miami plays on a
- 15:22Speaker 1: Friday night, Thursday night, Friday night to open up the season.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Their kids don't even get to play on a Saturday
- 15:27Speaker 1: for nearly the whole first month of the year. And
- 15:31Speaker 1: then they play Clemson. And then they play Florida State.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And then they play Virginia Tech. Oh, and by the way,
- 15:36Speaker 1: they go on the road and play Notre Dame. So
- 15:39Speaker 1: Saban's idea is to penalize teams like Miami because other
- 15:45Speaker 1: teams on their schedule are down. The other thing I'll
- 15:48Speaker 1: tell you is this. Yeah, I understand the idea of
- 15:53Speaker 1: non-conference schedules being more difficult and why that's a good
- 15:57Speaker 1: and bad thing based on who you ask. We also
- 16:01Speaker 1: are very well aware that conference schedules are set six
- 16:06Speaker 1: to ten years before the games ever happen. Conference schedules
- 16:10Speaker 1: are not set today and played tomorrow. And so you
- 16:15Speaker 1: would really float the idea of penalizing a team because
- 16:19Speaker 1: an AD that most likely is two predecessors past where
- 16:24Speaker 1: that one was scheduled a game? You would penalize Miami
- 16:29Speaker 1: because two ADs ago scheduled an out-of-conference lineup? I don't
- 16:33Speaker 1: know how much sense that makes. What about the ACC,
- 16:37Speaker 1: where some teams play eight conference games and some play nine?
- 16:41Speaker 1: What about in the SEC, where you require a group
- 16:44Speaker 1: of five or a power four opponent outside of your conference,
- 16:50Speaker 1: but other conferences don't have that? The ACC has it.
- 16:52Speaker 1: The Big Ten doesn't. I'm not a big fan of
- 16:56Speaker 1: ever saying the words that a good loss is better
- 17:00Speaker 1: than a bad win. And that's not what he said exactly.
- 17:04Speaker 1: But he said some losses are better than some wins.
- 17:09Speaker 1: My brother in Christ, you're the greatest coach that ever lived.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Respectfully shut up. What are you saying? Miami lost to
- 17:20Speaker 1: Middle Tennessee State. Florida State lost to Jacksonville State. Alabama,
- 17:25Speaker 1: with Nick Saban at the helm, lost to ULM. There
- 17:30Speaker 1: will never be a situation that I take my kids
- 17:34Speaker 1: to a game and say, hey guys, we're playing a
- 17:37Speaker 1: good team today. It's okay if we lose. No! If
- 17:43Speaker 1: you told me right now, hey, you can go watch
- 17:45Speaker 1: Florida State. Let's pretend we're good for a moment. You
- 17:47Speaker 1: can go watch Florida State play Alabama and they win
- 17:51Speaker 1: or lose, or you can go to this game that's
- 17:53Speaker 1: a guaranteed win because that loss against Bama is better
- 17:59Speaker 1: than a win in some situations. No, man. I hate
- 18:02Speaker 1: to quote Herm Edwards. You play to win the game,
- 18:05Speaker 1: and you don't penalize a team because they won a
- 18:09Speaker 1: game against an inferior opponent. Because it was scheduled eight
- 18:14Speaker 1: years ago. But here's where I'll land on. This is intentional.
- 18:20Speaker 1: This is 1,000% intentional. And the intentionality behind it is
- 18:27Speaker 1: that y'all better go undefeated or you better win the
- 18:30Speaker 1: ACC so they can't leave you out. Because that is
- 18:34Speaker 1: what they're telegraphing to you right now. When you're in
- 18:38Speaker 1: the SEC and the Big Ten, it's just about how
- 18:40Speaker 1: you look. When you're in the ACC and the Big 12,
- 18:43Speaker 1: you better have the resume to back it up. Or
- 18:45Speaker 1: you better go get an auto bid. Because if you don't,
- 18:51Speaker 1: I'm telling you, they'll screw you over. Just like they
- 18:53Speaker 1: screwed over Miami two years ago. Just like they screwed
- 18:56Speaker 1: over Florida State three years ago. Just like they screwed
- 18:59Speaker 1: over BYU and Notre Dame last year. And who's been
- 19:03Speaker 1: the beneficiary of that just about every year? It's been
- 19:05Speaker 1: Alabama more years than it hasn't. And guess what they'll do?
- 19:10Speaker 1: If Miami is 11-1 and isn't their conference champion and
- 19:15Speaker 1: Bama's 10-2 or 9-3, guess what, buddy? It'll happen again.
- 19:19Speaker 1: You already know it'll happen again. Listen, it does not
- 19:22Speaker 1: take a real rocket scientist to know that Miami is
- 19:24Speaker 1: a top five team in the country. Every analyst in
- 19:27Speaker 1: the nation would agree with that. The college football playoff
- 19:31Speaker 1: committee would come out tomorrow if they were meeting and
- 19:33Speaker 1: tell you, we think Miami is one of the best
- 19:35Speaker 1: five teams in the nation. And then in that same breath,
- 19:38Speaker 1: They'll come and say, but you just, you got to
- 19:40Speaker 1: look at their resume. Who did they really beat? When
- 19:43Speaker 1: you're an ACC team, the metrics change. When you're an
- 19:47Speaker 1: ACC team, the barometer for what we're evaluating changes. When
- 19:52Speaker 1: you're an SEC team, you'll get the benefit of the doubt.
- 19:55Speaker 1: We would all look at Alabama last year and say, no,
- 19:58Speaker 1: they were not one of the 12 best teams going
- 20:00Speaker 1: to the playoff. I think we would have looked at
- 20:02Speaker 1: Oklahoma and said, I don't think so. I put Notre
- 20:07Speaker 1: Dame over both of them. but that's not even close
- 20:10Speaker 1: to what happened. Why? The SEC gets the benefit of
- 20:12Speaker 1: the doubt. They beat up on each other. Whoever comes
- 20:15Speaker 1: out with the most wins is clearly a team that
- 20:17Speaker 1: deserves to be in. This ignores the entire conversation around
- 20:22Speaker 1: how poor the SEC has performed in the college football playoff. Guys,
- 20:27Speaker 1: the only two wins that the SEC has in the
- 20:30Speaker 1: playoff that's not a head-to-head SEC game or a group
- 20:34Speaker 1: of five game is Texas' two wins against in 2024,
- 20:38Speaker 1: where they beat Clemson unconvincingly, and then they nearly lost
- 20:44Speaker 1: to Arizona State in overtime. Those are the SEC's only
- 20:47Speaker 1: two wins. Other than that, they don't have a win
- 20:51Speaker 1: that wasn't a head-to-head SEC game or playing the school
- 20:54Speaker 1: of the deaf and the blind. I'll tell you, I
- 20:57Speaker 1: don't know what else to leave you with in this.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I just was frustrated and wanted to rant on it.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You better find a way to go undefeated or win
- 21:05Speaker 1: the ACC. You lose the Notre Dame game, go 12-1.
- 21:08Speaker 1: You'll get in with the auto bid. You don't win
- 21:11Speaker 1: your ACC this year, and I got bad news for you.
- 21:14Speaker 1: They will find a way to screw you over. They've
- 21:17Speaker 1: done it before. They will do it again. And they're already,
- 21:21Speaker 1: in week two, just ended. They're already starting to lay
- 21:25Speaker 1: the groundwork. Before Jordan Travis got injured, they... did a
- 21:30Speaker 1: segment on college game day and they asked Kirk who
- 21:33Speaker 1: he would put in. If all the teams that were
- 21:35Speaker 1: in the top five continue to win, Michigan was in there.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Washington was in there, Alabama, Texas, and Florida state Florida
- 21:43Speaker 1: state was undefeated at the time. Jordan Travis was not
- 21:45Speaker 1: hurt that morning. Kirk took FSU out and said he
- 21:48Speaker 1: would put Texas in Bama. And if they continue to win,
- 21:51Speaker 1: Jordan got hurt several hours later and did the committee's
- 21:55Speaker 1: job for them. But that was always the play. When
- 21:58Speaker 1: ESPN telegraphs something and tells you that it's coming, you
- 22:03Speaker 1: may not like them, but you damn sure better believe them.
- 22:06Speaker 1: People ask me, why is it important for Miami to
- 22:08Speaker 1: win the ACC? Because if you don't, there's a real
- 22:11Speaker 1: chance they don't put you in. You guys don't impact
- 22:15Speaker 1: the game. You guys don't throw the touchdown passes. You
- 22:17Speaker 1: guys don't catch the ball. You're not Malachi Tony. I
- 22:21Speaker 1: get it. I doubt the staff is watching this. If
- 22:24Speaker 1: they are, guys, feel free to hit me up. But...
- 22:27Speaker 1: I will tell you, the narrative needs to be exposed
- 22:31Speaker 1: because they will absolutely screw you over like they screwed
- 22:34Speaker 1: my team over, like they screwed over BYU last year,
- 22:37Speaker 1: like they've done to so many teams that don't have
- 22:40Speaker 1: that SEC patch on the side of their jerseys. Let
- 22:43Speaker 1: me know your thoughts down in the comments. I'm all
- 22:45Speaker 1: riled up. I'm in a bad mood now that I've
